Hello and welcome to this car pod.

• 0:36Speaker 02

  I'm Kenan.

• 0:36Speaker 03

  I'm Filippo.

• 0:37Doug DeMuro?

And there's a lot to discuss today, starting with we have new merch. Go to merch.carsandbids.com. There's new t-shirts. There's a keychain that says this on it. There's other things. I'm wearing a shirt with my face on it, folks. That's as good as it gets. Here, look, look at my face shirt. Yeah. Anyway, we got merch. Okay. Go to the merch store, buy things. There's even a life split frame. It says corporate features. Some of the merch is great. Some of the merch is not so great. I'm just gonna say it. But some of it I legitimately really like. There's the best merch we have ever had. There's even a hat that says this. Look at this hat.

• 1:12Speaker 03

I would be willing to put money on the fact that the ones that you like are the ones that sell the worst because nobody else does. And

• 1:20Speaker 02

Yeah, because you have such a keen fashion sense.

• 1:22Speaker 03

  Right.

• 1:22Doug DeMuro?

I do have a keen fashion sense.

• 1:24Speaker 03

After this podcast, you will make me a list of the three you like most.

• 1:27Doug DeMuro?

And we'll see how they sell.

• 1:28Speaker 03

And I'll bet you $20 that they sell worse.

• 1:29Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 1:30Speaker 02

Wow, we've all bear witness to that.

• 1:32Doug DeMuro?

Okay, uh, time for the news. Time for the news. And we start with the news. Donald Trump was elected president. Now, I don't want to get political here. I don't want Filippo to cry. I don't want Kenan to tell us that Emily's dad was there on January 6th. I don't want, I don't need to hear it anymore. I want to talk about, I want to talk about what this means for the automobile industry. Filippo?

• 1:56Doug DeMuro?

It's really interesting because there's not a clear cut answer. There's a lot of things that are happening. So when we were kind of prepping the set of topics, I started thinking through what I think the like main effects are. And it gets really complicated because there have been a lot, there's been a lot of talk on tariffs about, from the Trump campaign about tariffs, including on Mexico. A lot of cars are sold in the US are built in Mexico. The implication would be that will raise the cost of cars sold in the US by a fair amount. Honda, for example, builds hundreds of thousands of cars in Mexico. Ford does as well.

• 2:26Speaker 03

  A lot of automakers.

• 2:28Doug DeMuro?

  Volkswagen.

• 2:28Speaker 03

That, that would change dynamics a lot.

• 2:30Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 2:31Speaker 03

But will that actually happen? To what extent? The, the Trump campaign, in general, their expectation that auto manufacturers will benefit from a Trump presidency?

• 2:41Speaker 03

  But like in what way?

• 2:42Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 2:43Speaker 03

There's a lot of question marks here.

• 2:44Doug DeMuro?

It's an interesting situation. I think that the primary thing that I tariffs is an interesting conversation in itself. You know, NAFTA has allowed broad ability for the automakers to produce in Mexico and Canada without any sort of.

• 2:56Speaker 03

  Right.

• 2:57Doug DeMuro?

I have a suspicion that despite blustery language from Trump, I have a suspicion there's not going to be tariffs.

• 3:02Speaker 03

  You got it.

• 3:02Doug DeMuro?

There's simply too many of them.

• 3:04Speaker 03

It would also be a violation of our NAFTA.

• 3:06Doug DeMuro?

  Of NAFTA.

• 3:07Speaker 03

  But.

• 3:07Doug DeMuro?

But that could be changed, repealed. Other, other trade agreements have. I do suspect that Chinese tariffs will continue and, and or increase. And any automakers who thought that building electric cars in China was a good idea up until now, which already is not many because.

• 3:21Speaker 03

  All star exclusives.

• 3:22Doug DeMuro?

You know, I was in Canada last week and I saw a Model 3 with a VIN that started with L and I was thinking to myself, that's a China car. They don't sell those things in the United States.

• 3:30Speaker 03

They won't in Canada starting very soon because there's 200% tariffs.

• 3:32Doug DeMuro?

Is that right? Canada's doing a tariff also. So anyway, I do have a suspicion that EV, that more important than the tariffs, the electric vehicle incentives.

• 3:42Speaker 03

  Will be the big change.

• 3:43Doug DeMuro?

I agree. Especially with the Republicans who control the Senate and tight in the House. I mean, you have to assume that all of those EV, I wouldn't call them mandates, but certainly incentives to get people to buy them. And the automakers are then heavily incentivized to make them because they're, they're, they have giant, giant financial incentives. Those might change.

• 4:02Speaker 03

The big question mark then though becomes most manufacturers have gone. Very far in, especially from an R and D perspective on electric vehicles. And they built because a lot of these tax incentives are required the car is built in the U.S.

• 4:15Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 4:15Speaker 03

They've gone all in on also building factories for their EVs.

• 4:18Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 4:18Speaker 03

So you can have manufacturers that decide, okay, well, if we're going to ease off of our EV plans, but they also probably haven't developed a new gas engine.

• 4:25Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 4:25Speaker 03

  Or like new chassis.

• 4:27Doug DeMuro?

I think about this a lot and I've actually, I haven't been, it's, it's, I haven't been entirely thrilled with the way that the Biden administration or previous and current Trump administrations have sort of piecemeal these. It's difficult if you're an automaker to comply with this stuff because every year it seems that these things change. And now they're, they're so complicated to the point that it's difficult to even, consumers to even understand. There's a, there's a price, a means test, essentially a price test. There's an income test, right?

• 4:54Speaker 03

  For some of them, yeah.

• 4:55Doug DeMuro?

For some of the cars have to be built in the United States or some, some large portion of them need to be built. Ken doesn't care about this. This is interesting. This is real.

• 5:03Speaker 03

This will define the car that you buy 20 years from now.

• 5:06Doug DeMuro?

I'm, regardless, I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I do have a suspicion that, that the story will be tariffs and the definite story will be EVs. And whether, I also think like, everybody's talking about, oh, people voted for Trump for this reason, that reason. You know, the electric cars and the, the, the change that the Democrats are pushing in that way. I have a suspicion in some cases did contribute. People make fun of, conservatives make fun of electric cars, et cetera. They're not ready. We think we're not ready. The power grid's not ready. We always hear those talking points. And this was a little bit of rebuke of that.

• 5:38Speaker 03

Elon Musk was a huge surrogate for Trump.

• 5:40Doug DeMuro?

  That's weird.

• 5:40Speaker 03

In support of Trump. It's like.

• 5:41Doug DeMuro?

It's an odd thing. It is an odd thing. It doesn't make any sense to me personally.

• 5:45Speaker 03

Right. And then like you worry a little bit about tariffs on especially components that are necessary for battery development. But the industry group that lobbies for that is a combination of Tesla, Rivian.

• 5:54Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 5:55Speaker 03

A couple of other manufacturers. Well, Elon Musk is presumably will be in favor under the Trump administration.

• 6:01Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 6:02Speaker 03

How does that, what does that actually look like?

• 6:03Doug DeMuro?

And that's, and that's one of the reasons why just, Trump talks a big game in a lot of ways, but he's got a fairly broad coalition and can't go too far in any one race. As worried as people get, I think that this is a good example of an area where he can't go too crazy because he upsets not only his largest supporter, but a guy who honestly probably helped deliver him.

• 6:21Speaker 03

  Right.

• 6:21Doug DeMuro?

Is some, some portion of his substantial.

• 6:23Speaker 03

It's also such a different landscape than 20, 30 years ago. I think 20, 30 years ago, you talked a lot about the big three American manufacturers. And those being the people that are building the US and those unions being the ones that

• 6:33Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 6:34Speaker 03

might have a lot of democratic backing or republican backing. Well, the unions were very split.

• 6:39Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 6:39Speaker 03

In what kind of they supported. It's not just the big three that are building cars in the US.

• 6:43Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 6:43Speaker 03

Honda, IKEA, Nissan, Toyota, Honda to some extent, Subaru, they all have huge plans. It's like, what is the story now?

• 6:51Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 6:51Speaker 03

It's no longer as clear cut as American manufacturers.

• 6:54Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's definitely an interesting thing. It'll, from a, from a automotive perspective, it will be interesting to see what happens. And I do have a sense that EVs may not be as heavily incentivized going.

• 7:05Speaker 03

  You gotta assume.

• 7:06Doug DeMuro?

J D Vance, at some point, apparently, Trump's vice president-elect, came out with an idea that they would start incentivizing simply American-built cars, gas or electric, which is an interesting thought that could also have some benefits if that ever went anywhere. I mean, there's, it's anybody's guess. And I have to say, I think the automakers are not entirely thrilled with that, that they've, they've gone in one direction for the last few years, now they gotta go back. And they were back in the first place. It's a tough, it really is a tough game to play if you're trying to, because manufacturing is set up years in advance.

• 7:35Speaker 03

Right. There's also a lot of, there was a lot of lobbying around the EV tax credit. I think the end solution was one that generally manufacturers were okay with, or even for okay with. CAFE standards, though, and emission standards, there was a lot more debate around. And it's, we, I think the prevailing theory that those will be pulled back a little bit.

• 7:53Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 7:54Speaker 03

  What does that mean?

• 7:55Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 7:55Speaker 03

Maybe not all that much. I mean, like, who's selling cars that are that dirty at this point, that were, that matters that much? I don't know.

• 8:00Doug DeMuro?

I will say, consumer demand does seem to line up more with the Trump administration's sentiment than the Biden administration's sentiment in terms of people kind of walking back from EVs. And we see that with the automakers.

• 8:10Speaker 03

  Totally.

• 8:11Doug DeMuro?

That are every week now, one more seems to be walking back its electric vehicle goal.

• 8:16Speaker 03

But at the same time, we're in a global economy, making cars just for the US.

• 8:19Doug DeMuro?

  That's, that's, that's true.

• 8:20Speaker 03

Might not be as lucrative as the ones.

• 8:20Doug DeMuro?

And China's crazy EV. China's crazy EV.

• 8:23Speaker 03

So, in other words, we have no insights here, just a lot of questions.

• 8:26Doug DeMuro?

I remember I used to think that I would love to run a car company, and I'm so glad that I'm not now. Life is very different than 20 years ago when I was sitting at Porsche, like, I could do this. There's, you gotta think China now. It used to be North America was everything. You gotta think EVs. You got, there's a ton of politics involved. Now it's a bizarre situation and you know Porsche comes out with the Macani V and it's like this was a miss. Well, it seemed like a huge hit when they were developing it.

• 8:48Speaker 02

Yep, but to be honest with you, it has also always been that way. I mean, in the seventies, when the emissions started, stuff became much more strict. And manufacturers had a lot of difficulty meeting.

• 8:57Doug DeMuro?

  That's true.

• 8:57Speaker 02

And it, none of that has changed. Porsche is a great example when they had to develop that, that Andreas Forniger talks about that like turn signal. They had to spend hundreds of thousands of development for specifically because of the US DOT standards. Like there have always been like for our California taillights, there have always been like.

• 9:12Doug DeMuro?

That's true. I, I get the sense that there's probably more now and more uncertain with the automakers now, but that you're right. There's, there's, there's always, this has always been part of the.

• 9:18Speaker 02

  It's a hard business.

• 9:19Doug DeMuro?

There are massive compliance departments in these companies.

• 9:21Speaker 02

  Massive.

• 9:21Doug DeMuro?

  Complicated business.

• 9:22Speaker 02

My big concern is for components as someone who owns an older car, an older, older foreign car that have to bring in a lot of components that are produced in other.

• 9:29Speaker 03

  Tariffs will impact that.

• 9:30Speaker 02

Yeah. And so I know like I'm, I'm worried about that. And Orion's worried about that for his customers too. So. Well, certainly as if the E395 wasn't expensive enough to keep.

• 9:38Speaker 03

I'm glad that you're, that that is top of mind for you, Ken.

• 9:41Speaker 02

  Well, for me specifically.

• 9:43Speaker 03

Week, I appreciate that E39 parts availability is like the.

• 9:46Speaker 02

  Something I thought about.

• 9:48Speaker 03

  It's a the takeaway.

• 9:48Speaker 02

There's a lot I thought about, but that was one of the things.

• 9:52Doug DeMuro?

E39 parts or not, I'm, I'm hopeful that the tariffs are not implemented at the level that we're being discussed. Um, we'll see.

• 9:57Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 9:58Doug DeMuro?

Next news story. Ah, yes, SEMA is here. SEMA, SEMA. SEMA is the Specialty Equip Manufacturers Association. Thank you very much. I, I know everything.

• 10:07Speaker 02

  You look it up.

• 10:08Doug DeMuro?

Uh, no, no, I just knew that because I love SEMA. I legitimately love SEMA. It goes on in Vegas every year. There's crazy stuff. The automakers got into it at 10, 20 years ago, started making their own crazy stuff. Toyota has built this, which is a two door convertible forerunner looking like the old school eighties ones with a roll bar and a surfboard. And it's cool.

• 10:29Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 10:29Doug DeMuro?

You don't think it's cool? What? Really?

• 10:32Speaker 02

I mean, that could come exist.

• 10:34Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but this is, it's a, it's got seats back there, dude.

• 10:38Doug DeMuro?

I'm gonna tell you this, whoever's at Toyota who helped do this, I want to buy this car at the end of SEMA. I want to buy this car at the end of SEMA. Do you, you wouldn't?

• 10:45Speaker 03

  No.

• 10:46Doug DeMuro?

  Why not? It's cool.

• 10:47Speaker 00

Host Thanksgiving with industry-leading quality standards from Whole Foods Market. There are no antibiotics in their meat department, ever, so carve up turkey and spiral cut ham with peace of mind. Shop organic sides like stuffing mix and cranberry sauce from 365 brand. And guess what? All their delectable pies are made with no high fructose corn syrup. Gourmet Thanksgiving flavors with the quality you want, only at Whole Foods Market.

• 11:16Speaker 02

But you're not buying this anyway.

• 11:18Doug DeMuro?

No, but I would, I love old SEMA cars, like, love, to a way that I can't even explain.

• 11:23Speaker 03

  For sure.

• 11:23Doug DeMuro?

And there are some that I absolutely would buy. I have always wanted an old, like, an old concept car. If I could buy a Cadillac, the Cadillac CN, I would do it too.

• 11:30Speaker 02

Oh, of course, but that's different. That's, that's, that is very different.

• 11:34Doug DeMuro?

It is different than a four.

• 11:35Speaker 02

SEMA, it's different than a four that's had its, you know, back.

• 11:38Doug DeMuro?

It's more than that, it doesn't even have back doors. This is a, this is a serious build, serious effort went into this.

• 11:44Speaker 02

  I just.

• 11:45Speaker 03

To make a single one that's gonna be static.

• 11:47Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but it's cool. You guys don't understand, cool, you never have.

• 11:51Speaker 02

I don't like SEMA at all.

• 11:52Speaker 03

Card that I think Kenan will most appreciate, that is at SEMA in theory. I saw an article about this, I know nothing else.

• 11:58Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 11:59Speaker 03

Not a villain at all. There's apparently a company that is making E46-based V8-powered station wagons.

• 12:06Doug DeMuro?

  Ooh.

• 12:07Speaker 03

Uh, Strickland Seawagon R is what.

• 12:09Doug DeMuro?

  Kenan hates all modded cars.

• 12:11Speaker 02

Leave it alone. The E46 is fine.

• 12:13Doug DeMuro?

That's like every Kenan dream rolled into one.

• 12:15Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't want it. It's like, it's at SEMA. No thanks.

• 12:18Speaker 03

There's literally no information about it whatsoever.

• 12:20Doug DeMuro?

That looks, that little, that little blurry image looks cool. Pull this up, Kenan.

• 12:26Speaker 02

  That's to you.

• 12:27Speaker 03

  Go to model.

• 12:27Doug DeMuro?

  Okay, go to.

• 12:28Speaker 03

Yeah, scroll up, scroll up. Models.

• 12:30Speaker 02

  Oh, models.

• 12:31Speaker 03

I don't know how many models.

• 12:31Doug DeMuro?

Look at this. That looks cool. Go back up. There's no picture.

• 12:35Speaker 03

  No, no, no.

• 12:36Doug DeMuro?

This is as good as it gets. But look at that. That looks like an M Coupe, but not. No, go back up. I want to see it.

• 12:42Speaker 02

  There's nothing to see.

• 12:43Doug DeMuro?

It's a blurred out image. You can see the idea of it.

• 12:47Speaker 02

It doesn't even look like an E46 wagon. It just looks like a bull.

• 12:50Speaker 03

Apparently, it will have a six-speed manual, an LSV8, 500 horsepower, and it's based on E46.

• 12:55Doug DeMuro?

  That's awesome.

• 12:56Speaker 02

Someone put an LS and an E46, whoop-de-frickin'-do. Who cares? And anybody can do it.

• 13:01Speaker 03

  No, no, they, they.

• 13:01Speaker 02

  I want E46.

• 13:02Doug DeMuro?

We could knock that out in a long weekend with a couple of cold ones.

• 13:04Speaker 02

  Absolutely.

• 13:05Doug DeMuro?

Veterans Day is coming up. Maybe we should get a ratty E46 on Craigslist from a veteran. Go to Oceanside. That's, that'll be like our veterans play. And then we throw an LS in it over the weekend.

• 13:15Speaker 02

But yeah, but exactly. That's, that's why it's not something if he and I can do it. I, I would respect somebody who put an S54 and made an 46M3 touring, but like.

• 13:25Doug DeMuro?

  Agreed.

• 13:26Speaker 02

  I, but, and let's, we'll silver.

• 13:29Speaker 03

Thought you would be into this.

• 13:30Speaker 02

I know. Why would I care? It's, it's an LS and an E46. That's not something.

• 13:34Speaker 03

  It's a fully different design.

• 13:36Speaker 02

  That's irrelevant.

• 13:36Speaker 03

It's a fully separate design. Also, their, their tagline is analog is better.

• 13:40Speaker 02

Analog is better. Yeah. You know what was great? The original car. The E46M3 was fine.

• 13:45Speaker 03

All right. I think we got this.

• 13:46Doug DeMuro?

There was no E46M3 wagon. Ken, this looks cool. This blurry shot looks cool. I'm just saying. It looks like it has flared wide fenders. It looks cool. I'm just putting it out.

• 13:54Speaker 03

I, I will be intrigued to see whether they actually show one.

• 13:57Doug DeMuro?

There are all these companies out there trying to be like Singer, and this is like that, but for BMW wagons. That's what I want. I hate a lot of the Singer fakers. I even don't really like Singer. But I'm ready for some of them to come along and make cool cars.

• 14:10Speaker 02

I just don't care. Nothing at SEMA is real. It's all modded crap that I don't care about. I just, I can't imagine a place I'd like to be less than SEMA.

• 14:19Doug DeMuro?

What about all the cool stuff there? What about this?

• 14:21Speaker 02

  Nothing.

• 14:22Doug DeMuro?

Show us the coolest car at SEMA.

• 14:23Speaker 03

All right. This is a Kia EV9 Adventure.

• 14:26Doug DeMuro?

  No.

• 14:26Speaker 03

But I want you to tell me how Adventure is spelled.

• 14:29Doug DeMuro?

Uh, I will not call it the K, the EV9 Adventure. I will only call it the EV9 ADVNTR.

• 14:34Speaker 03

  Correct.

• 14:35Speaker 02

  Adventer.

• 14:36Doug DeMuro?

  Adventer.

• 14:36Speaker 03

  Advent.

• 14:37Doug DeMuro?

  This is the EV9 Adventer.

• 14:39Speaker 02

  It's the, it's the, it's the Advent.

• 14:40Doug DeMuro?

  Advent.

• 14:41Speaker 03

  It's Advent.

• 14:42Doug DeMuro?

So tell us what's adventury about it. It's got some tires, it looks like.

• 14:45Speaker 03

That is what is adventure about it. Congratulations. And like the little different light bar treatment.

• 14:50Doug DeMuro?

They took it to some sort of Jurassic Park-like area.

• 14:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, some slightly elevated.

• 14:55Doug DeMuro?

How does Kia have access to this sort of forest, aren't they in Southern California? Seriously, where is this? This isn't in Vegas, this isn't in Southern California. Where did they take this picture?

• 15:03Speaker 03

This is right behind like some huge distribution facility. Oh, you know, this is a little.

• 15:07Doug DeMuro?

  It is. It totally is.

• 15:09Speaker 03

It was like, oh, there are a couple of trees there.

• 15:11Doug DeMuro?

You know what they did? Wherever the EV9 is built, they just took one out back, let's throw some tires on it.

• 15:15Speaker 03

The other side of this, there's a hospital and some bunch of big box stores.

• 15:19Doug DeMuro?

Yup. And they were just hoping to God that nobody came over the fence or whatever, left the giant empty parking lot to come down here and see this thing.

• 15:28Speaker 03

Fun fact, parts of it are built in West Point, Georgia.

• 15:31Doug DeMuro?

Okay, that's probably where they took this picture.

• 15:33Speaker 03

Uh, this is another SEMA concept car, but Kia would, I think, build this. No. Would there be the man, do you think, for an off-road minivan-esque SUV that's electric?

• 15:45Doug DeMuro?

  Let me think about it.

• 15:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 15:49Speaker 03

  No.

• 15:50Doug DeMuro?

So. Literally no one would buy this.

• 15:52Speaker 03

Are you saying that all the people that bought it for efficiency and practicality and didn't buy an R1S or another off-road car, but wanted to look like that, but are willing to trade 100 miles of range for the tires?

• 16:00Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I mean, it would be, there would be a massive range trade-off. It's not just tires.

• 16:05Speaker 03

  But it looks kinda good.

• 16:06Doug DeMuro?

This thing is probably heavy, there's probably a steel bumper.

• 16:08Speaker 03

You'd buy it, you'd buy a Sequoia TRD Pro.

• 16:10Doug DeMuro?

It doesn't look that good. I think the EV9's drawback is it's the way it's styled.

• 16:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:14Doug DeMuro?

I think its benefit is everything else.

• 16:16Speaker 03

Yup. But this maybe helps? The light treatment helps.

• 16:19Doug DeMuro?

  The light treatment helps. Yeah.

• 16:22Speaker 03

This is a car that everybody's most excited about from SEMA.

• 17:37Speaker 02

All right, Aston Martin. Now Aston Martin traditionally is a brand that makes cool cars and struggles financially. That's kind of what they do.

• 17:45Speaker 03

To be clear, making and selling, two very different.

• 17:47Speaker 02

Yes, that is also true. So they recently reported that they're having some financial problems.

• 17:51Speaker 03

  No, not them.

• 17:52Speaker 02

I know. They're reporting 1.8 million dollars in losses per day, which, you know, but for some of us, that that seems like a lot.

• 18:00Speaker 03

Hasn't lost a million eight in a day.

• 18:01Speaker 02

Right. They also are down 17% in sales. The DBX itself is down 52%.

• 18:08Speaker 03

  Really?

• 18:08Speaker 02

Yes. And they're also taking on more debt to invest more in the company. They just took on 1.57 billion dollars more in debt. So they're in a hole and they're just gonna keep on digging.

• 18:18Speaker 03

Ask you a question. I understand the DBX. I understand the the race car. Are they involved in the manufacturing of heavy equipment?

• 18:27Speaker 02

I can't remember what the Lawrence Stroll.

• 18:29Doug DeMuro?

Why didn't they just take the tractors out of the out of the back for the photo? You think Lawrence Stroll was like, no, let's just do it. Let's get it done.

• 18:35Speaker 02

The only way to get the Formula One car in the shop, though, they took it and craned it in and then just gently set it down. That's very deep grass. This looks very thick. But it's not a surprise. This is Aston Martin is a brand that is desirable conceptually to a lot of people. But when it comes to actually selling cars, the market is disagrees. And they they've sold many, many times. Ford had them for a while. I think they owned them for a little bit too.

• 18:57Doug DeMuro?

  But I can't remember.

• 18:58Speaker 02

Lawrence Stroll owns them now, but that's only so his son can drive a Formula One car. And so like it just. It just ends up Aston Martin just gets passed around and passed around and passed around.

• 19:08Doug DeMuro?

The the famous line that regular car reviews guy said about Maserati. That Maserati is what rich people think that is what poor people think that rich people drive. That's kind of true of Aston. Like almost all of the people who love Aston Martin are like people who drive Toyotas. And people who are actually in this sphere of owning high end cars, they don't really want an Aston Martin. They're they're big luxury cars. They're not that sporty. They don't really have much of a reputation for like very special high.

• 19:37Speaker 02

No, no, it's someone who wants to be largely esoteric because you're comparing it against other cars that are very good. You're like, or it could have an Aston and it's like, that's as far as the thought goes, though, honestly.

• 19:46Doug DeMuro?

They're very available. It's never hit me and I owned an Aston. It's never hit me like buying these cars. I could also think about.

• 19:53Speaker 02

Right. Now, there are some where it's like, I mean, the original like DB, the DB5 is like unbelievable. Right, exactly. Except for when they make some for track use only as a new.

• 20:04Doug DeMuro?

Here are the good Astons. I'll tell you right now.

• 20:06Speaker 02

  Okay, please.

• 20:07Doug DeMuro?

Okay. The DB5 and DB4 and DB6, that whole era. Any of the any cars that is any car that is a DB5 or a car that Felipe would not be able to tell apart from a DB5 is a great Aston Martin.

• 20:18Speaker 03

  I I'm good DB7 and up.

• 20:23Speaker 02

  Enzo era Aston Martin.

• 20:26Speaker 02

  Pretty good. Okay.

• 20:27Doug DeMuro?

  The original Legonda.

• 20:29Speaker 02

Yeah, series well, the series two, you're talking about the anteater.

• 20:32Doug DeMuro?

I'll take a series one, two, or three.

• 20:34Speaker 02

Well, there's the series two, three, and four. They're the anteaters and the one that looks very different, but we'll move on.

• 20:38Doug DeMuro?

The oh, you're right. The original, original Legonda looks like a totally different car. Uh, and then that's kind of it.

• 20:45Speaker 03

What about the current Legonda or current?

• 20:47Doug DeMuro?

The Legonda Taraf, the 177, which has a square steering wheel. And they made some cars for the Sultan that were heinous, but I want them all.

• 20:55Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 20:55Doug DeMuro?

  So that's kind of it.

• 20:56Speaker 02

The Bulldog is another is one.

• 20:58Doug DeMuro?

I the Bulldog's okay. I haven't liked a car that Aston made therefore since what does that put me at?

• 21:04Speaker 03

  Well, the 177.

• 21:06Speaker 02

  177.

• 21:07Doug DeMuro?

  But that's 2010.

• 21:08Speaker 03

Was that a Taraf as far as that too?

• 21:10Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 21:10Speaker 03

  It's been 15 years.

• 21:13Speaker 02

  It's been a while.

• 21:13Speaker 03

I I thought everybody agreed that the DBX was like, fine.

• 21:16Doug DeMuro?

  The Valkyrie is cool.

• 21:17Speaker 03

  The Valkyrie is cool.

• 21:18Speaker 02

Valkyrie is, yeah, the Valkyrie is cool, but.

• 21:20Doug DeMuro?

  The DBX is fine.

• 21:21Speaker 03

And then you would be 12 is good.

• 21:24Doug DeMuro?

  All the cars are good.

• 21:25Speaker 03

  Maybe.

• 21:25Doug DeMuro?

They're all legitimately, all of them are good. The DBX is great. It's a great car. It's too expensive and the brand name is just not there. And you know that when you were buying Aston Martin, you were buying massive depreciation.

• 21:36Speaker 02

  Absolutely.

• 21:37Doug DeMuro?

  You know, as a fact.

• 21:38Speaker 02

You're gonna be the third owner at least.

• 21:40Speaker 03

  Right.

• 21:41Speaker 02

To to just avoid the depreciation.

• 21:43Doug DeMuro?

Isn't true. Like you could go get an Urus, which looks worse, is not as nice inside, is basically a Cayenne, but you ain't gonna lose $200,000 in the first long weekend that you own the car.

• 21:55Speaker 03

  Right.

• 21:56Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 21:58Speaker 02

That's it. So. And that's what all factors into them losing so much money.

• 22:03Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:03Speaker 02

Who wants to buy a car that they're gonna lose tons and tons of money on? And and so I I don't know.

• 22:07Doug DeMuro?

And so they have to subsidize the cars like crazy. They're incredibly available. Every Aston dealer you go by has stacks of what should be very special, rare cars sitting out front.

• 22:17Speaker 02

And so one wonders, you know, if they sell again, you know, I don't know exactly what Lance Stroll's plan is with them, but we'll certainly see.

• 22:24Doug DeMuro?

If you're you, how do you fix Aston Martin?

• 22:27Speaker 03

  Oh, good question.

• 22:28Speaker 02

  I, that's a really great.

• 22:30Doug DeMuro?

You know what I think you do? You abandon the whole brand principle and go mid-engine manual transmission sports car.

• 22:35Speaker 02

Well, I'll make something that Ferrari.

• 22:37Doug DeMuro?

Make what Ferrari and Lambo won't make.

• 22:39Speaker 02

  I don't disagree.

• 22:40Doug DeMuro?

Abandon the brand principle. Walk away from the long GT cars. Just straight walk away. Be like, we're doing this to save the brand. Like the Cayenne. And they built that thing in Bratislava.

• 22:48Speaker 02

Yep. Well, it is, I mean, the the hopeful, the the DB, or the DBX was kind of their hail Mary to like, to save the brand to make an SUV, but it didn't work.

• 22:59Speaker 03

  Nah.

• 22:59Speaker 02

So you got a point. It's like, go back, just make some crazy stuff.

• 23:02Doug DeMuro?

If they made a beautiful, like Aston Martin level beautiful.

• 23:05Speaker 03

  I agree with that.

• 23:06Doug DeMuro?

Mid-engine exotic car that was good with a V8.

• 23:10Speaker 02

And then have James Bond drive it in the next James Bond movie.

• 23:13Speaker 03

  Well, still would.

• 23:14Speaker 02

  Perhaps.

• 23:14Doug DeMuro?

You got a, you got a Ferrari F8 competitor, or whatever the new Ferrari is called, and no one pays attention anymore, with a manual transmission, a beautiful car, beautiful brand name. That's what people want.

• 23:23Speaker 03

  Wouldn't sell.

• 23:24Doug DeMuro?

Look at what people are, I don't agree with that. Look what people are paying $300,000 for on the used market. You think you wouldn't go and buy one of these things? Gordon Murray Academy T50, he sold 5 billion of those at $7 billion a car. I don't know the exact numbers, but it would, that's a, that's a slight close estimate.

• 23:41Speaker 02

It wouldn't, it can't be worse than what it is now. I'll give you that.

• 23:45Doug DeMuro?

It can't be worse than how it is now?

• 23:46Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:46Speaker 03

Also, I, I consider the sale of Aston Martin as a brand, McLaren, to just be like financial movement around money.

• 23:53Doug DeMuro?

  Totally.

• 23:54Speaker 03

  That doesn't impact anything.

• 23:55Doug DeMuro?

I completely agree with that. People are like, oh, it's bankrupt again. Well, that just means someone buys all the, the, the name and starts doing basically the same stuff again with similar assets.

• 24:04Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 24:04Doug DeMuro?

And it never really does anything.

• 24:06Speaker 03

  Correct.

• 24:07Doug DeMuro?

In our lifetime, we're going to look back on Aston's best period is that oh, five oh six era. They had V Advantage and DB nine. They had some good stuff. They had good momentum.

• 24:13Speaker 02

Vanquish, that's one of my all time favorite cars.

• 24:15Doug DeMuro?

They came out of that DB seven era and they had like good cars, good timing and didn't really capitalize on it.

• 24:20Speaker 03

And then they built three cars that were technically different, but looked they don't.

• 24:23Doug DeMuro?

Them and Infiniti were killing it in oh, five. Okay. Next news story. Yes.

• 24:29Speaker 02

Lamborghini. So Lamborghini on the other side of the exotic industry.

• 24:34Speaker 03

  Right.

• 24:34Speaker 02

Lamborghini has announced they're doing great.

• 24:36Doug DeMuro?

  Good.

• 24:37Speaker 02

So the Urus is sold out for two thousand twenty six.

• 24:40Doug DeMuro?

That's how you say it. That's how people, that's how you're supposed to say it.

• 24:43Speaker 02

The Vuelto is, has a two year waiting list and they announced that they have made, they have uh, two point six billion dollars in revenue so far this year and they've delivered eight thousand four hundred eleven cars in twenty twenty four.

• 24:54Speaker 03

How many cars does Lamborghini sell? I have no concept.

• 24:56Doug DeMuro?

Apparently in twenty three, they sold just over ten thousand cars. The first time they ever broke the ten thousand mark and that was an increase of ten percent from twenty two and now they're killing it again.

• 25:05Speaker 02

Yeah. And we haven't wrapped up the year yet. I mean, it is, it is, it really speaks to something bigger, I think. I think Lamborghini is kind of in their, well, I was like crowned their Luca de Montezemolo era. There was a period where Ferrari was kind of an obscure manufacturer. That made cars that were cool, but they weren't selling at all. But then all of a sudden, like really the late nineties, oh, two thousand.

• 25:24Doug DeMuro?

Luca showed up when at Ferrari?

• 25:26Speaker 02

Luca showed up in nineteen, he took over in nineteen eighty nine, I believe, when Enzo Ferrari died in nineteen eighty eight and, and immediately started making it more commercially successful. And, and obviously the Formula One team then started to do really well and those sorts of things. It really came together. I think Lamborghini is on the precipice of being that. Their, their sales numbers are incredible. The cars are really cool. There's an increasing interest in their older cars, as you well know. And so I think that the brand has, you know, you always. Used to be the, you know, the rich, you know, kind of drug dealers drove Lamborghinis. Well, those people drive McLarens now.

• 25:57Doug DeMuro?

And you know, one great example, I totally agree with everything you've said. I think it's, it's completely clearly true. Lamborghini is totally true. And by the way, Ferrari hasn't, it's not a zero sum game. Ferrari continues to excel, but Lamborghini is excelling in a way they never have before. And I think a great example of, of the proof of that is the Revolto compared to the SF90. The SF90 is a walking automotive disaster. They are losing enormous amounts of money in the secondary market, like a laughable depreciation situation that Ferrari has not seen in, since Enzo's lifetime. I mean, it's crazy what's going on in the SF90 world. Meanwhile, Revolto is on a two-year waitlist. You and I could get an SF90 tomorrow if we walked into the dealership. And by the way, we'd get probably, we'd get money off. We'd better.

• 26:40Speaker 02

There might be some money on the hood.

• 26:42Doug DeMuro?

  There's gotta be.

• 26:42Speaker 02

But it is, yeah, it is, it is interesting. I'm very curious to see how it continues to develop for Lamborghini. Cause to be honest with you, I, as a diehard lifelong Ferrari fan, I never took Lamborghini seriously for the longest time. Because for exact reasons I outlined.

• 26:56Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 26:57Speaker 02

But now I, they make cars that I have to admit, Urus is not my thing, but they do make cars that are inherently more desirable.

• 27:05Doug DeMuro?

But Urus sells and it's like Cayenne, honestly, like, like they've, they've bankrolled a lot of this company's success on the, on the back of this SUV. And it's kind of allowed them to push the envelope even more with Revolto. I gotta be honest, I drove Revolto, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. I drove amazingly.

• 27:21Speaker 02

Do wish the styling were a little bit more extreme.

• 27:23Doug DeMuro?

I agree with that. And, but I will say like Revolto was actually another example of Lamborghini has been eating Ferrari's lunch in the mid-engine V12 world since the Murra, right? Murra comes out, it's a huge success. Daytona Ferrari is like, oh God, we gotta go mid-engine. So they go mid-engine with the Boxer, the Testarossa, trying to beat out the Countach. They fail and eventually retreat to the 550 Mariner.

• 27:43Speaker 02

I don't know exactly what you mean by fail. They sold all, commercially, they were way more successful.

• 27:47Doug DeMuro?

And yet everyone prefers the Lambos very much, including the car market today. Where Countach is a million bucks and a, and a Testarossa, you can still find one for like 87.5. It's had the differential explode, which most of them have.

• 27:59Speaker 02

Right. Well, let's not get into reliability. I have to pull by an entire engine and transmission out of one unit with a crane just to service the car regularly.

• 28:05Doug DeMuro?

It is pulled out by George Evans with a tow truck. Okay?

• 28:09Speaker 02

A guy in a, a guy in Hawaii with a couple of cold ones.

• 28:15Doug DeMuro?

Do you know what, what, what are the? Toe with, but I don't know, but I will say I have pictures of when they did the major service in my car in oh five. And guess what they're using to pull out the engine, a tow truck presumably the same one.

• 28:26Speaker 02

But to your point, one wonders if that's also not supply and demand. If there are a lot of Testeroses around, therefore the price stays.

• 28:33Doug DeMuro?

Regardless, it is clear that Lamborghini is in a, is on an amazing path. And I, to be honest, as a Lamborghini owner, oh, which I barely think of myself as, but I guess I am. It's hard to imagine. Lamborghini owner, I do wish they would go into motorsport. I think that the one thing they're missing from, from especially the old cars becoming like really beloved. Is the motorsport success that Ferrari has, which I think will always elevate Ferrari to a higher.

• 28:58Speaker 02

But the difference, they do have some cars that compete in motorsport. The difference is Ferrari has done that since day one. They have always been a race team.

• 29:05Doug DeMuro?

That's the thing. But I really think that if you just show up late and you're really successful, you can still have that history like.

• 29:12Speaker 02

Maybe Ferrari, but Formula One, one of the largest spectator sports in the world is Ferrari and Ferrari is Formula One. That level, I don't think.

• 29:21Doug DeMuro?

You'd have to, you'd probably have to do something else.

• 29:24Speaker 02

You absolutely do. And also Ferrari now is doing very well in Le Mans. So like.

• 29:28Doug DeMuro?

You'd have to do Le Mans.

• 29:29Speaker 02

It would be, that would be something.

• 29:30Doug DeMuro?

Watch that. That would be cool as hell. A, a, a purpose built LMP cars going up next to each other, win on Sunday, sell on Monday. Or win overnight on a Friday through Sunday escapade at Le Mans in the rain and then sell on Monday.

• 29:42Speaker 03

Although Lamborghini already has the YouTuber presence. Every single YouTuber has a Lamborghini and that's gotta be worth something.

• 29:49Doug DeMuro?

Okay. On the subject of Lamborghini, I have some Lamborghini talking to do in our talk car segment. But first, an important announcement, Cars and Bins will be at Radwood. Radwood SoCal, which is going to be in Long Beach, Cars and Bins will be there. I will not be. I really wish I was. I love Radwood dearly, dearly. I went to one a couple of years ago. My Lamborghini won Radwood 19 in Sonoma. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. I'd like to thank.

• 30:11Speaker 02

  Such provenance.

• 30:12Doug DeMuro?

The academy, of course. But uh, I'm not gonna be there, but Cars and Bins will.

• 30:16Speaker 03

Yep. So go, go find our tent, go check out some of the cars that we'll have on display there, including a car that'll be live on Cars and Bins very soon. Yeah. And go meet our team.

• 30:23Speaker 02

I won't, I won't be there either, to be clear.

• 30:26Doug DeMuro?

Our producer Sean will be there and he is way cooler than all of us and he has a tipped frog. This episode is brought to you by Manscaped, the global leader in men's lifestyle and grooming. • 32:15Speaker 03

Yeah, there's a lot of Lamborghinis this show.

• 32:17Doug DeMuro?

Lamborghini, I have a theory that Lamborghini supercars are the next Ferrari supercars.

• 32:23Doug DeMuro?

Like Lamborghini supercar, meaning Ferrari, the 288 GTO, the F40, the F50, the Enzo, the LaFerrari, and whatever this new one is called, I can't remember.

  The BMW F80.

• 33:04Doug DeMuro?

Okay, that's like the thing that rich guys have, right?

• 33:07Speaker 02

  Sure, and the SP3.

• 33:08Doug DeMuro?

Lamborghini, Murra, Countach, Diablo, Mercy. I think that one day, having those big four will also be something.

• 33:17Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 33:18Doug DeMuro?

Right now, you can buy all four of those for 3.8 million dollars. If you go to Ferrari, I calculated this last night, you're gonna spend 20 million to get the big, the big, whatever the, I don't even know, and the F80, who knows what it's gonna cost?

• 33:30Speaker 02

3.5 million, I think is where it's gonna start. At least they said, but if you get one and you won't.

• 33:34Doug DeMuro?

So 25 million to get the Ferrari supercars. Right now, the Lambos are four.

• 33:39Speaker 02

I, well, I understand conceptually what you're saying. I think it gets confusing because like, sure, you could get a Countach. Which one of the 11 variants? So do you have to get the ultimate of each one?

• 33:48Doug DeMuro?

  I don't know, maybe.

• 33:49Speaker 02

And then which one's the ultimate of each one?

• 33:50Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 33:51Speaker 02

And so like, that becomes an argument. So I think it's a little bit cloudier than what you're saying exactly, but I agree that having-

• 33:56Doug DeMuro?

It's never gonna be quite like Ferrari, but like, even Ferrari isn't like Ferrari anymore, because like, which LaFerrari you get, the Aperitur or not? Do you count the Daytona SP3? Do you count the Daytona SP3? Do you, et cetera, et cetera?

• 34:05Speaker 02

  Right.

• 34:06Doug DeMuro?

It's now starting to get a little cloudy in the Ferrari world.

• 34:08Speaker 02

  It's starting to fracture.

• 34:09Doug DeMuro?

Right. And so that will be true. But the Lambo, the Lambo supercars, mark my words, will be like the Ferrari supercars.

• 34:17Speaker 02

Well, I mean, the market agrees with you in that there has been a dramatic appreciation of all the cars.

• 34:21Doug DeMuro?

They're going up, and I, there was a time when the Ferrari supercars were just not a lot valuable. I mean, 288 GTOs, when I was like, in college, were like $250,000 cars.

• 34:29Speaker 02

  Yeah, F40s were 350.

• 34:31Doug DeMuro?

I reviewed an F40 one time, and I said it cost, in the title, I wrote it cost a million dollars to try to get some sweet, sweet clicks. And I got hate mail about how I was lying about how much it cost. If I could buy that car for a million dollars now, I'd eat Filippo. If someone came in and said, "I'll give you an F40 for a million, I was gonna eat Filippo," that's all right.

• 34:46Speaker 02

You'd say, "Do you have another one? I'll buy, I'll take two."

• 34:47Doug DeMuro?

I'll take two, I'll eat Cannon. The Lamborghini Supercars, you should think about this as your next investment.

• 34:53Speaker 03

I will do zero thinking about this whatsoever.

• 34:55Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay. Filippo, Filippo's being cagey because he wants, we had an incident the last time he was on this podcast, remember? And now he has to explain.

• 35:03Speaker 03

Yes. Yeah, I was gone last week, uh, cause I was on the East Coast and while I was there, I test drove a nine nine seven dot two base cabriolet.

• 35:10Doug DeMuro?

Mm hmm. And you said, I told you, I'm not going to talk about you buying a car again unless you buy that car.

• 35:15Speaker 03

Right. Well, I, I, I don't. It's not here now. Nor is it in my legal possession.

• 35:23Doug DeMuro?

  Did you steal it?

• 35:24Speaker 03

No. Um, it was fine. I liked it. I would buy one. The guy just wants five grand more than I think it's worth.

• 35:31Doug DeMuro?

  Okay, that's fine.

• 35:33Speaker 03

He did go down a grand on price. No additional interest since he and I text sometimes. I told him to, to, to keep texting me as he lowers the price. And then eventually we'll get to an agreement.

• 35:43Doug DeMuro?

  It's like having Nick here.

• 35:45Speaker 03

Eventually gets an agreement. It was fine though. I didn't love it.

• 35:49Doug DeMuro?

What do you mean you didn't love it?

• 35:49Speaker 03

I liked it. It wasn't a three hundred forty five horsepower or whatever.

• 35:52Doug DeMuro?

Can I make a suggestion? Three forty five. Can I make a suggestion?

• 35:56Speaker 03

  It's not what it has.

• 35:57Doug DeMuro?

Can I make a suggestion? My suggestion is you will not love anything. You're not the type of person who loves.

• 36:02Speaker 03

I know. Should I just give up?

• 36:03Doug DeMuro?

He loves, I think you should.

• 36:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:05Doug DeMuro?

I've thought about this a lot. You had all the special cars, Miata, you had a Miata, you had the, the five hundred Abarth, you had a manual X five, which is a very well-known enthusiast automobile.

• 36:16Speaker 03

  It's forty, indeed.

• 36:17Doug DeMuro?

High performance. You had that Corvette, but you're not pursuing one. Like, I think maybe it's just time you say you're never going to find the car. And you should just get some sort of a cure.

• 36:26Speaker 03

Well, I already have my two cars. They're fine.

• 36:29Doug DeMuro?

  How about an Akira?

• 36:31Speaker 03

  Which Akira?

• 36:31Doug DeMuro?

You really, like, like a boring one, like a non.

• 36:34Speaker 03

For a while you were pushing an NSX.

• 36:36Doug DeMuro?

No, I don't think you'd fall in love with that either.

• 36:38Speaker 03

  I wouldn't.

• 36:39Doug DeMuro?

You should get, you know what you should get? You should get the two, the two point two CL that came out in ninety seven with the line down the middle of it with an automatic. And just be like, that's.

• 36:46Speaker 03

Well, the automatic will, will stop working tomorrow.

• 36:48Doug DeMuro?

So, no, no, that was, that was a later problem.

• 36:51Speaker 03

  Uh huh.

• 36:53Speaker 02

You seem to conceptually have owned these cars in your mind already and like are done. And that may be enough for you.

• 37:00Doug DeMuro?

That's so true. That's so true. He gets in his head about a car, he thinks about them, he not only thinks about buying them, but then thinks about not having them. He has the entire ownership journey in his mind.

• 37:13Speaker 02

  And the best part is-

• 37:14Doug DeMuro?

  And then he moves on.

• 37:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:15Speaker 03

Well, I am keeping my eyes very much out for other things that seem interesting.

• 37:20Speaker 02

You're not gonna find anything. I hate to break it to you. I think you're-

• 37:25Speaker 03

I think at some point I will make an impulse purchase, but it'll be like a 987 Boxer.

• 37:29Speaker 02

I'll bet you you don't. I'd put money on this.

• 37:32Speaker 03

I've bought other cars, kind of.

• 37:34Speaker 02

Yeah, you bid on a lot.

• 37:36Doug DeMuro?

He does impulse buy cars sometimes.

• 37:38Speaker 03

  Most of my bidding is-

• 37:38Doug DeMuro?

The problem is that what Filippo buys on impulse and what he actually wants are very different. He buys impulse stuff because it's convenient to him.

• 37:44Speaker 03

  And cheap.

• 37:45Doug DeMuro?

And he actually wants stuff that would take some effort to find, like a 97.2 cab, an S, because apparently you want more power. To find a good one will take effort. Like you need to set search rules, you need to bid on stuff on our site and the others. You need to like go after stuff on Renlist or in like the Porsche Club magazine. That's how you would have to do it and you're never gonna put in that level of effort.

• 38:03Speaker 03

No, but I do check Facebook Marketplace a lot.

• 38:05Doug DeMuro?

That's because you're looking for local stuff that's cheap.

• 38:07Speaker 02

Yep, at the end of his street, that's what he's-

• 38:09Doug DeMuro?

But if you wanna find, if you wanna really find like a great example of good, you have to be like focused. You'll never be.

• 38:14Speaker 03

This comes in ebbs and flows, comes in waves for me. I was scared. I was looking at the other things. I had reached out to other, about other cars.

• 38:22Doug DeMuro?

Okay, the rule is made on the pod.

• 38:23Speaker 03

I'm not talking about it, I agree.

• 38:25Doug DeMuro?

Cars with Filippo anymore unless he has like got the cash in his pocket.

• 38:30Speaker 02

  He's got the cash.

• 38:31Doug DeMuro?

No, in his pocket, like he's buying it.

• 38:33Speaker 02

I want him to have it to hold the title in his hands.

• 38:35Speaker 03

I'm not going to buy a $40,000 car with cash. That seems insane.

• 38:39Doug DeMuro?

Okay, Kenan, we move on. What do you got for us?

• 38:42Speaker 02

Well, I want, I discovered something interesting recently. It actually came up in an Instagram post. But you know the Ferrari Enzo, you're familiar with the Enzo Ferrari.

• 38:52Speaker 02

I'm gonna type in Ferrari Enzo because otherwise the guy comes up.

• 38:55Doug DeMuro?

Yep. The unfortunate part of it.

• 38:58Speaker 02

Now, you are aware, of course, that it has two mirrors like most cars.

• 39:03Doug DeMuro?

  Yes.

• 39:03Speaker 02

However, they're different sizes. If you look closely, the one on the driver's side is longer than the one on the passenger's side. Now, I suppose this is because like it needed to clear like the visibility needed to cap, but I had never noticed this until somebody pointed it out.

• 39:21Doug DeMuro?

Don't you agree it looks the same?

• 39:23Speaker 03

Yeah, I'm starting to see this.

• 39:25Speaker 02

They are actually different. I think the drive covered it. Um, but there, there are different sizes, like which I can't.

• 39:31Doug DeMuro?

Wait, go back, go down, go down. There's the Instagram post. Go down. Oh, that's good. We don't have it.

• 39:37Speaker 02

  What?

• 39:40Speaker 02

  Oh, it's a video.

• 39:41Doug DeMuro?

  It's a video.

• 39:43Speaker 02

But I, I never, like, I had never noticed that.

• 39:46Doug DeMuro?

Okay, so this is the, you're a mirror in a video.

• 39:49Speaker 02

  Look, they're completely different sizes.

• 39:52Doug DeMuro?

No way. It's not even close.

• 39:53Speaker 02

It's not even close. The mirrors are totally different.

• 39:57Doug DeMuro?

Remember when the W124 E-Class did this? I do, actually.

• 40:02Speaker 02

  Well, look at that.

• 40:02Doug DeMuro?

That's very different. I agree with you. Wow. Who knew?

• 40:05Speaker 02

But I never once noticed it looking at the car. Like, and I have stared at Enzos for a while. Look.

• 40:10Doug DeMuro?

Don't you agree the main thing we noticed is that it looks like a grasshopper and that the front overhang is as long as a softball, uh, field?

• 40:18Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:18Doug DeMuro?

That one looks good with no front overhang. That's how it should have looked. OE.

• 40:22Speaker 02

It looks like half an ante. It, it, yeah, I, I, it, it, the Enzo, I think the Enzos aged actually remarkably well, personally.

• 40:30Speaker 03

Oh, wow. That mirror looks huge. Can I ask a question? You've driven a Mazda IDMC12.

• 40:33Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 40:34Speaker 03

  True there too, or no?

• 40:35Doug DeMuro?

Ooh, that's something that we'll have to find out. Uh, but before we do, I have one more talk car segment that it's finally time for me to get off my chest in public.

• 40:43Speaker 02

  Uh oh.

• 40:44Doug DeMuro?

As we've talked about it a lot, but many times.

• 40:45Speaker 03

  What is this, the words?

• 40:47Doug DeMuro?

  The Ford Crown Victoria.

• 40:48Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:49Doug DeMuro?

The Crown Vic, as they say, a hero to the blue collar car community.

• 40:53Speaker 02

  The grand marquee.

• 40:54Doug DeMuro?

You go to any small town in Indiana and there's some kid who's like us, who just wants to screw around with cars. And he's driving a Crown Vic, right? But that's the thing about that car. They were cheap, they were cheap to own, people drift them, people crash them into stuff, people mod them for destruction derbies and off roading. It's like the blue collar dream car.

• 41:13Speaker 02

  Do people still do that?

• 41:14Doug DeMuro?

Oh, no, yeah, it's still going on. And you know what the weird thing about that is? The name, it's called the Crown Victoria. It's named for like, it's got like the most British name, like the most like British, like royalty name in history. Like this car is, there's not a Crown Victoria in the country that isn't driving around with like crushed energy drink cans in the back wheel, in the back passenger footwell.

• 41:41Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 41:41Doug DeMuro?

And it's the Crown Victoria. How come this is never discussed?

• 41:46Speaker 02

  It's such a good point.

• 41:47Doug DeMuro?

  Great question.

• 41:48Speaker 02

This is, sometimes you have these ideas and I have a list on my phone where I write them down. I brought this one up to him recently and that's why he's mentioning it up.

• 41:55Doug DeMuro?

The Crown Victoria, it is insane. It is insane that the blue collar hero car has the most proper stately British name. If Jaguar came out with a flagship luxury sedan and called it the Crown Victoria, that would make sense. And it would cost $200,000. It's unfortunately they're taking a year off from, from the automotive industry.

• 42:13Speaker 02

Right, to do ski instruction in Aspen.

• 42:15Doug DeMuro?

Right. But instead Ford did it on their like taxi that kids buy and mod cheaply.

• 42:22Speaker 02

  Great point.

• 42:22Doug DeMuro?

And spray paint the body because you can do that.

• 42:25Speaker 02

There must be a story behind why they chose that name.

• 42:28Doug DeMuro?

It's a historic name. I mean, there was a time when the Crown Victoria was like the top trim of their LTD and it was supposed to be the luxury one. But it degraded. And now, and now it's like literally the hero of red state America, the Crown Victoria. And it's the Crown Victoria. So stupid.

• 42:48Speaker 02

  It is a good point.

• 42:49Doug DeMuro?

How did this happen? How do we allow ourselves to be invaded by the British even though we beat them the first time?

• 42:55Speaker 02

Maybe they, they finally, they got the last laugh. Took a couple hundred years, but they got the last laugh.

• 43:02Doug DeMuro?

Okay, we need to move on to our market report, which is not brought to you by Cars and Bids. It's brought to you by, very distinct, very different, the Cars and Bids app.

• 43:10Speaker 03

Yep, you can download it on the Apple App Store right now.

• 43:13Doug DeMuro?

  Go to carsandbids.com/app.

• 43:18Speaker 03

  No, don't.

• 43:20Doug DeMuro?

Fine, go to the App Store, download the Cars and Bids app. Sean's mad.

• 43:26Doug DeMuro?

  What?

• 43:29Doug DeMuro?

It's an app, it's Cars and Bids.

• 43:30Speaker 03

It's in the form, in the description, you'll find the link, and also you can go to the iOS.

• 43:35Doug DeMuro?

It is my personal favorite way to consume Cars and Bids on the app.

• 43:40Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 43:40Doug DeMuro?

  Because I can bid.

• 43:42Speaker 03

You can get push notifications, you can get alerted when a car, you do like lists.

• 43:46Doug DeMuro?

  I do get alerts.

• 43:47Speaker 03

Good. As if when I bid.

• 43:51Speaker 03

But I should be sure we all.

• 43:52Speaker 02

Can't say it for a user, but yeah.

• 43:53Doug DeMuro?

Okay, the Cars and Bids app. Anyway, market report. Filippo, tell us a couple of things.

• 43:57Speaker 03

Yeah, we have somebody that we, that's very exciting, selling a car with us right now.

• 44:01Doug DeMuro?

  Is it Bernie Madoff?

• 44:03Speaker 03

Uh, no, it is, we actually have two people. One is a short form creator called Slick Stevie, who's selling a Baja Bug with us.

• 44:10Doug DeMuro?

I love this thing, it's so cool.

• 44:12Speaker 03

  So good.

• 44:12Speaker 02

  That is so cool.

• 44:14Speaker 03

It's so cool. He bought it on our site a few months ago, now he's selling it after making it her B.

• 44:18Doug DeMuro?

Believe it or not, he bought it largely looking like this.

• 44:21Speaker 03

  Just minus a wrap.

• 44:22Doug DeMuro?

And now he made it even cooler. Wait, go back to the rear photo, please, for a second. What is this bizarre Florida license plate? It's a couple of people out on like a, on like a fan boat.

• 44:32Speaker 03

  Florida Bay forever.

• 44:32Doug DeMuro?

Florida Bay forever. Man, Florida really does it. Anyway.

• 44:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 44:36Doug DeMuro?

This is on the site right now.

• 44:37Speaker 03

The other car that we have live right now that's really exciting is a Lotus Amira, sold by none other than the Stradman.

• 44:43Doug DeMuro?

  The Stradman, not a Stradman.

• 44:44Speaker 03

  No, no.

• 44:44Doug DeMuro?

  The Stradman. This is James.

• 44:46Speaker 03

  James.

• 44:47Doug DeMuro?

  I know James personally.

• 44:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 44:49Doug DeMuro?

I don't know his last name, I think it might be Stradman.

• 44:53Speaker 03

But he's selling his Amira with us, which is very exciting.

• 44:55Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 44:56Speaker 03

  Beautiful car.

• 44:57Doug DeMuro?

  I recognize the photos.

• 44:58Speaker 03

Turns out that's where they were taken. And it's very exciting. And we love the Strad man and the second channel, Strad.

• 45:06Doug DeMuro?

  I do love the Strad.

• 45:07Speaker 03

Yeah. I threw the Strad chose to sell it on Cars and Bits. Auction went live today. So yesterday when you all are watching this, bidding's already at 70,007.

• 45:16Doug DeMuro?

$70,000. What is an Amira worth?

• 45:19Speaker 03

  We'll find out.

• 45:21Doug DeMuro?

Strad man, Strad man, thank you for selling your Lotus Amira on our site. Uh, okay, Kenan, give us the real good market report, which is very interesting.

• 45:28Speaker 02

Yes. So I discovered something recently. So as you might know, I like the E39 M5 a lot.

• 45:33Speaker 03

  You don't say.

• 45:35Speaker 02

But I discovered something interesting. So E39 M5 results have been pretty strong. I did a little more research on on classic.com, which is a nice aggregate of like a lot of results. They've been pretty strong recently, but to get like a decent one, it kind of costs you the average turns out over the last five years. Or the last year is $35,000 about what it's going to cost you.

• 45:55Speaker 03

For like a night for like average of anything public?

• 45:58Speaker 02

Yes, correct. Average of anything public. The BMW F10 M5, two generations later. About same. So it actually costs four grand more on average. So yes, depreciation is really striking this car. The E39 M5 is ascending as a classic.

• 46:14Doug DeMuro?

That's actually a good point because the E60 is even cheaper.

• 46:16Speaker 03

  Presumably worth.

• 46:17Doug DeMuro?

The E39 M5 has outvalued both of its successors.

• 46:21Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 46:21Doug DeMuro?

I mean, it hasn't outvalued the F10 yet, but the writing's on the wall.

• 46:24Speaker 02

Yes. And I suspect now, of course, the F10 was available only as an or as well as available as an automatic and as a manual. I suspect the manual ones will be cat will hold their values.

• 46:35Doug DeMuro?

Which is true when we sell them, although it's very uncommon.

• 46:37Speaker 02

Yes. But it is fascinating to me like the F10 M5 to me still feels like a new car. I live in the past, but I think of it as a new car and it offers a lot of modern tech and all that stuff.

• 46:48Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 46:48Speaker 02

The E39 definitely feels a lot more like a classic, but.

• 46:52Doug DeMuro?

This is what happens. The the used market values different things than the new market. The new market values tech and, uh, you know, vehicle size and. Performance.

• 47:03Speaker 02

But the yeah, and the other one, the classic values experience. And so, and I just think it was fascinating. I never really thought about it that way.

• 47:10Doug DeMuro?

With that said, I think the F10 M5 is one of the sleeper cars.

• 47:14Speaker 03

  Agreed.

• 47:15Doug DeMuro?

I love them. Click on this blue one. I just want to look at it. I love it. First off, I know it's sacrilege, but I think the F10 M5 is maybe the best looking M5.

• 47:23Speaker 03

  I agree with you.

• 47:24Doug DeMuro?

I love how this car looks.

• 47:25Speaker 02

Yeah, I think it's second, but yes.

• 47:27Doug DeMuro?

  I, I know you do.

• 47:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:28Doug DeMuro?

Um, but either way, it's up there. Like, I think it is beautiful. And it's a, the interior is fantastic. It's a very fun car to drive. It's a great powertrain.

• 47:37Speaker 02

Maybe third. E34 M5 is a very good looking car too. It's this, to me, it's the, for me personally, if the E60 could be reliable, that would be.

• 47:45Doug DeMuro?

Oh, yeah. If E60 was reliable, we, we would all have E60 at price.

• 47:48Speaker 02

Yes, agreed. Yes, we'd just be rolling around in V10 manual sedan.

• 47:51Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, I, I am.

• 47:52Speaker 03

  My ass in June.

• 47:53Speaker 02

Right, yeah. Yeah, I'll, I'll get there. But, no, I, I agree. The F10 is one of my all time favorite M5s. I do wish they were a little more reliable. Um, but we welcome to BMW.

• 48:04Doug DeMuro?

That's something that is, that is hurting it on the used market. Cause the E30 M5, for all of your canon decisions, fairly reliable car, this car has some issues and I think that continues to drive prices.

• 48:13Speaker 02

Yeah, again, my car hasn't been unreliable. I just expect it to be mechanically perfect at 240,000 miles.

• 48:17Doug DeMuro?

  I will tell you this.

• 48:18Speaker 02

It costs a lot of money.

• 48:18Doug DeMuro?

You want to see something crazy? We've been talking about this also. E30 M5, 30 grand gets you a good one. F10 M5, it looks like 30 grand gets you a good one. Go to F90.

• 48:27Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 48:27Doug DeMuro?

The new M5, F90, I remember reviewing this car at a dealer when it just came out. We've been.

• 48:32Speaker 02

  Yeah, they've been sinking.

• 48:33Doug DeMuro?

We've been selling, we, we had an Arnim at 43. We had a couple of sales in the low 50s. This car ain't far. This, to me, you want to talk about what feels like a new car?

• 48:43Speaker 03

Unfortunately, it's uglier and just worse.

• 48:46Speaker 02

And all auto only and all wheel.

• 48:48Doug DeMuro?

Uglier, auto only, bigger, et cetera. However, it's really fast. It's got amazing tech. And this car is only five, I mean, this is a 20,000 mile car. Like, it may have engine issues someday, but you got a long way to go and it's 55 Gs.

• 49:01Speaker 02

Right, I agree. Nick and I actually discussed this on like the Cars and Bids channel last week when we were highlighting cars that were for sale. And this F, this F90 was one of them. But yeah, it, it really is, these are sinking and sinking fast.

• 49:12Doug DeMuro?

  Fast.

• 49:13Speaker 02

But great to pick one up as a used car.

• 49:14Doug DeMuro?

You get one of these as a used car, the number starts with a four, it's pretty appealing, especially because we all know BMW has some engine issues. These cars are young. I mean, they may develop issues later, but I just don't believe, truthfully, that at 18 BMW will have the kind of catastrophic failures that E60 M5s had yet. You'd probably get five good years out of this car.

• 49:32Speaker 02

  Right.

• 49:32Doug DeMuro?

This is the time to buy one of these.

• 49:33Speaker 02

  You'll lose 30 grand.

• 49:34Doug DeMuro?

When they've depreciated some, but not to zero, and when they're a little older, but not unreliable.

• 49:39Speaker 02

I am curious to see how the market treats them, especially with the new one coming out weighing, you know, twice as much as

• 49:46Speaker 02

as much as a small plane.

• 49:47Doug DeMuro?

I know, we all thought that this was the heavy, the heavy big one.

• 49:49Speaker 03

Do, do we think that the F10 stick M5 will appreciate? It's the last of the manual M5s.

• 49:55Speaker 02

And it was only offered in North America.

• 49:58Doug DeMuro?

  It's cool.

• 49:58Speaker 03

And it is. Also, they're not that expensive.

• 50:01Doug DeMuro?

  And the M6.

• 50:01Speaker 03

  Go, go back to F10.

• 50:03Speaker 02

But they are very, the M6 Coupe.

• 50:05Doug DeMuro?

  We've sold a couple.

• 50:06Speaker 03

I know, we've sold every single one that was ever created.

• 50:08Speaker 02

There aren't many. He, he didn't, believe me, he thought they were all modified and people swapped them.

• 50:12Speaker 03

  Go to Stix.

• 50:13Speaker 02

They, that is not true. They were available with me.

• 50:16Speaker 03

Like, how much is this stick? 35? For a gray color one?

• 50:20Speaker 02

  25 for that one.

• 50:21Doug DeMuro?

  You should get into this.

• 50:23Speaker 02

That'd be a good car for you.

• 50:24Doug DeMuro?

  We're not discussing buying cars.

• 50:26Speaker 02

  Right.

• 50:27Doug DeMuro?

I use Turo all the time myself, and I've scoured the Turo marketplace for the most interesting cars I can find, and I've added them to my favorites list. Fun fact, you can search Turo without dates or location.

• 51:10Doug DeMuro?

Just put your location as anywhere and hit clear for the dates. I've done just that, and I've found about 30 of my favorite Turo cars. And you can check out my personal Turo favorites by Clicking the link in the description below. Okay, time for questions, questions, questions, questions, questions. You can ask us questions. You go to carsandbids.com and you click on the community tab and there will be a post that says, please ask us questions in this post and then we will ask the highest rated questions, no matter how stupid.

• 51:39Speaker 03

And if you do it from the app where you very easily get the community from the bottom nav bar and you say that, I will say thank you. Not, not out loud, but I will think, I will think thank you.

• 51:50Doug DeMuro?

Tom is probably, apparently type the app download. Okay.

• 51:54Speaker 03

  Fool me.

• 51:56Speaker 02

  They're doing great.

• 51:58Doug DeMuro?

Okay, questions. First question from Luis, which is spelled with a one. What do mods slash upgrades, what mods slash upgrades do you believe retain or even improve car resale values the most? On the opposite side, what mods do you believe hurt resale value the most? Excellent question.

• 52:12Speaker 02

I'll answer the latter part first. Most mods hurt the value of the car.

• 52:16Doug DeMuro?

But some do more than others.

• 52:17Speaker 02

But some do a lot more than others. We were talking about this earlier.

• 52:20Speaker 03

Yeah, of the mods that don't matter, like are easily changeable. I trust in the tinting taillights and headlights is the most immediate drop for a mod that doesn't matter.

• 52:29Doug DeMuro?

I agree with that and black wheels from era where cars didn't have black wheels. Any car from the mid 2000s when black wheels was not a thing, you put black wheels on it, instantly it's uglier and it says that the person is maybe sketchy. I also would submit to you that any wheel that our friend Nick thinks is attractive is a value decline in a car.

• 52:50Speaker 02

I would expand that a little bit more. I would say, yeah, any car with aftermarket wheels that are clearly aftermarket.

• 52:57Doug DeMuro?

  Not all.

• 52:57Speaker 02

I think most of the time is gonna hurt.

• 52:59Doug DeMuro?

I don't think it'll necessarily hurt the value in a lot of cases. I think it doesn't help. I think that some do hurt the value.

• 53:06Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:06Doug DeMuro?

And I think that some help the value, but I think.

• 53:08Speaker 02

Well, I will put it this way. If you're selling a car on the site and it has aftermarket wheels and you have stock wheels, put the stock wheels back on.

• 53:14Doug DeMuro?

I completely agree generally with that.

• 53:16Speaker 03

There's a couple of exceptions, but yeah.

• 53:17Doug DeMuro?

There are a few exceptions, but I generally agree with that. You should put the stock wheels back on when you go to sell a car. I have seen some cars list that I'm just like, if you had just put the stock wheels back on, you would have gotten thousands.

• 53:27Speaker 02

And they have them. They're like in other sections.

• 53:29Doug DeMuro?

Here, you can put them on. You put them on.

• 53:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:31Doug DeMuro?

You want to make the money on the car?

• 53:33Speaker 03

You know what I think universally helps? Well-known reliability modifications.

• 53:37Doug DeMuro?

  Reliability mods are huge.

• 53:39Speaker 03

To fix like a specific issue that that car has that everybody knows has.

• 53:43Doug DeMuro?

Absolutely. Better head bolts in the 63s, rod bearings in the E60 M5s, a manual transmission in E46 M3.

• 53:51Speaker 02

  That's a conversion.

• 53:53Doug DeMuro?

  Countach has a bunch.

• 53:55Speaker 02

Yeah, 355 has a ton of headers.

• 53:57Doug DeMuro?

Heads. If you do those mods, people will instantly be like, yep, that's a something I don't have to do.

• 54:03Speaker 02

Right, right. I totally agree with that. That's the one.

• 54:06Speaker 03

And it will also show that you care about the car. You care about the car long term.

• 54:09Doug DeMuro?

There are other mods though that add value legitimately.

• 54:12Speaker 02

There are some, like the Porsche head unit that adds car plans.

• 54:15Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, Porsche head unit that adds car plans is a good one. I think in some cars that are very clearly track-based, racy-type things, something like a roll cage can add value or race seats or something like that.

• 54:26Speaker 02

  Off-roaders are another one.

• 54:27Doug DeMuro?

Off-roaders have some value adds with good lifts. Those parts can be expensive and difficult to install. And so people who have already done that on cars that are very commonly off-roaded often get some money for them.

• 54:38Speaker 03

Things that demonstrate that you care a lot about having the best, the most reliable, the safest. Like a roll cage indicates, oh, I actually, right, yeah, you know, I tried this car, but also I cared or like Olin's damn, Olin's shop or whatever on some modification.

• 54:54Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, high quality.

• 54:55Speaker 02

  High quality parts, yeah.

• 54:56Speaker 03

You won't get back the full money. You won't get back the full money, but like an original 9PA Cayenne.

• 55:01Doug DeMuro?

  Wow.

• 55:02Speaker 02

  Nice, I like it.

• 55:03Doug DeMuro?

That's been modded, off-road modded, gets more money than one that hasn't. I don't think you get dollar for dollar back on the mods, but it certainly is more desirable and more valuable than.

• 55:12Speaker 02

Yeah, I was trying to find an example of that, but we've had a number.

• 55:18Doug DeMuro?

Okay, that's a good question. And I think Luis, one who has a good question, I think we've successfully answered it. Next question from OESES. This is a great question, one of the best we've ever been asked.

• 55:28Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 55:29Doug DeMuro?

Kenan, if you could magically change the M5's color to any other BMW factory color, would you? And what color would you choose? Same thing for Doug and the Carrera GT with Porsche colors.

• 55:39Speaker 02

Yep, absolutely. In fact, when I ordered, I didn't order, but when I bought my M5, like I didn't want silver. I specifically didn't want titanium silver. No, I wanted a 2000 Avis Blue with the two-tone interior and full leather. Very, very, very, very rare. I think they only made 17 or 19. My friend Luke has one. And that's what I wanted. I even looked at it. I like, I was negotiating on one in Chicago at the time, but it was just a number. Didn't work out and I was getting discouraged and eventually that one came up and the condition of that car was so good. That's why I bought it in the end.

• 56:07Doug DeMuro?

  Interesting.

• 56:08Speaker 02

But yeah, Avis blue, in my opinion, was the best color and it was it was replaced by Le Mans blue when they facelifted the car. But Avis was very pretty. It was offered on the E thirty six M three as well. And that to me is like, that's the one. That would be the one with the full leather two-tone interior.

• 56:23Doug DeMuro?

  So they're out there.

• 56:23Speaker 02

Sport interiors. They are out there. I see them occasionally, but it's very rare and only available for two thousand.

• 56:30Doug DeMuro?

Um, me and the Carrera GT, I I have a bizarre color history of the Carrera GT. I really loved the yellow. The yellow was the thing. It was fans yellow is what it was called, the special color that they started with Carrera GT. I really wanted it. It's all I wanted. And then, um, and then over time, my taste started to shift a little. And by the time I bought the car, fans yellow was way too expensive.

• 56:50Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 56:50Doug DeMuro?

And to be frank, I I preferred silver. Um, and it's it's funny. I was thinking about this last night when I wrote this question down and started thinking about it. Ford GT, I have never preferred the color I bought. To this day, I wish my car was white with blue stripes. To this day.

• 57:05Speaker 02

  So surprised.

• 57:06Doug DeMuro?

Carrera GT, I never have wished it was yellow. There is not a, people are always like, when are you going to get your yellow one? And I'm like, hopefully never. It looks like a banana.

• 57:17Doug DeMuro?

  I actually prefer silver.

• 57:19Speaker 02

  We know that there was.

• 57:19Doug DeMuro?

But I actually, and I know that I prefer silver because for the Ford GT, I've never been able to get out of my head that I don't prefer that car's color. And I always think about it. And Carrera GT, I never think about it. So I really legitimately think. However, if I could have any color on that car, I don't know. I personally, I think the career like cars look best in the colors the manufacturer offered. Like, I think when people do color changes, it's it's doesn't necessarily work in the way you don't, that's not the color of the car. It's not correct. And so for that that car, it was silver, seal gray, black, other black, red and yellow. And I think silver looks the best on the Carrera GT.

• 57:54Speaker 02

Yeah, GT seven tires are great.

• 57:55Doug DeMuro?

I truly do. However, if I could move beyond the Carrera GT color palette, I mean, I don't know, like in Azero California, I think would look cool. Zanzibar red was another like reddish brownish they did that was cool, but I'm not sure it would look great on Carrera GT anyway. People are doing all these Carrera GT color changes now. The factory is doing them. Certain dealerships are doing them. There are certain modifiers, aftermarket modifiers that Graham Ray help that are doing them. I don't think any of them look better than the OE colors, to be honest. But I'm an OE guy. I like OE stuff. It's who I am.

• 58:23Speaker 02

Everybody should keep in mind that every other car that Doug owns is white. Well, Doug Doug likes owning cars in the so this is kind of along the Azure California.

• 58:31Doug DeMuro?

  I yeah Gulf blue Porsche.

• 58:33Speaker 02

  Gulf blue is.

• 58:33Doug DeMuro?

Porsche did some Gulf blue and I'm just I just thought.

• 58:36Speaker 03

I think you're right about GT.

• 58:37Doug DeMuro?

Seal, I actually think Seal is better looking than GT Silver, but to me, the car just looks best in GT Silver. Anyway, we're splitting hairs at this point, but the answer is I really like the car in silver, which is odd and and disappointing.

• 58:48Speaker 02

  Both of us.

• 58:50Doug DeMuro?

I know, like such a shame.

• 58:52Speaker 02

  I know.

• 58:52Doug DeMuro?

But you have a good answer to this question and I really don't. I think I would. Silver is just what it is. In my mind, a career GT is silver with a brown interior.

• 58:59Speaker 02

And to be honest with you, I'm thrilled that I have silver. It makes it a lot easier to live with when it gets slightly dirty.

• 59:03Doug DeMuro?

Could you imagine if he had anything else?

• 59:05Speaker 02

  Dark colored car.

• 59:06Speaker 03

I also you also hear what Kenan has said about full leather interior.

• 59:10Speaker 02

Very hard to take care of.

• 59:11Doug DeMuro?

He'd be cleaning the car literally now. Be like, Ken, time for the pie. Be like, nope, nope. Okay, next question from Amir Hassan 722. As a senior graduating college soon, uh, as a senior in college graduating soon, any advice on how to land a job like Doug had at Porsche early in his career?

• 59:26Speaker 00

Host Thanksgiving with industry leading quality standards from Whole Foods Market. There are no antibiotics in their meat department ever, so carve up turkey and spiral cut ham with peace of mind. Shop organic sides like stuffing mix and cranberry sauce from 365 brand. And guess what? All their delectable pies are made with no high fructose corn syrup. Gourmet Thanksgiving flavors with the quality you want only at Whole Foods Market.

• 59:56Speaker 03

I got no advice, Doug. You you had the job.

• 59:58Doug DeMuro?

Felipe got a job, though, when he got out of college.

• 1:00:00Speaker 03

  Of course.

• 1:00:00Doug DeMuro?

  How'd you get that?

• 1:00:02Speaker 03

I don't have a good answer for this.

• 1:00:05Doug DeMuro?

I don't know. I don't know what the answer is. A job like, I'll I'll tell you this, and I'm I'm very, very serious about this. People make a lot on the internet of what job I had at Porsche. People are like, he made a lot of money when he was working at Porsche. I had like the most entry level job that ever existed at Porsche. I was getting paid $48,000 a year and it was like that. People are like, how did you get this special job? I sat at a computer all day doing Excel. Like this wasn't something. This wasn't like a, like an amazing thing. To be honest, my answer to this question is I've, and I've always told this to people, like you should consider starting working at a dealership. I think dealership life gives you an unbelievable amount of automotive experience. You, that is where everything happens.

• 1:00:48Speaker 03

  And tons of upside.

• 1:00:49Doug DeMuro?

And when I then went into the actual industry into like the, the many, for the manufacturer, I knew so much more because I had worked at a dealership before that. Getting into work at a manufacturer is hard, but it's not as glamorous as people think. I went to work next to a, you know, we went to Chipotle for lunch every day and we, we sat at Excel. Like it wasn't, it wasn't different from if I was working at the company that makes road signs.

• 1:01:12Speaker 02

It's corporate, but for a cool company.

• 1:01:14Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, that helps.

• 1:01:14Speaker 03

You went to Chipotle lunch in your company 997.2.

• 1:01:17Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but that was, that was a company car that I was leasing from the company and took my pay. You should see, I was taken home like 1,100 bucks a paycheck. Like it was, it was a situation.

• 1:01:28Speaker 02

I, I so as the person who has most recently gone through this for the automotive industry, like I agree with you a hundred percent. I worked for the largest exotic car dealership in the country and I learned a lot about different parts of the industry for new cars, for old cars, for how it all works. And that, and I also learned what I liked and didn't like about that, like that specific part of the industry. And that was tremendously helpful. And additionally, I met tons and tons of great people who I'm very close friends with in the industry and taught, going to events, talking to those people, how they got and started in their career and just being friendly in general. I started talking to you just casually about F50s and then you asked me what I wanted to do. I wanted to work in a company, live in Southern California.

• 1:02:08Speaker 03

Right. I think there's also a lot of like, you just sometimes have to build your way up to that by proving that you're competent.

• 1:02:12Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:02:13Speaker 03

If you are, even if you're working a different job, if you're competent, then you develop the skills.

• 1:02:17Speaker 02

Yep. And also, like, I would note on that, I would say, like, if you're gonna, when you're building those relationships, build them as friends. Like, don't build it as like, I'm angling to get this job when this person has it or whatever. Like, that's not the right way to approach it. Genuinely invest in the relationships and have genuine passion and enthusiasm for the cars that you're interested in. That, the purest enthusiasm carries you a long way, I think. And you certainly had it when it comes to cars.

• 1:02:39Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, yeah. And honestly, I don't, I don't regret having that job, but I also don't think that job is quite as, like, when you're a senior in college, your whole world is devoted to, like, getting a cool job at a cool, that job wasn't as special as, as you might think. Like, there's a lot of cool jobs out there, and that job, it was $1,100 a month that I was making after my company car lease.

• 1:02:58Speaker 03

Well, that, that seems like a personal.

• 1:03:00Speaker 02

But you were driving around in a 911.

• 1:03:01Doug DeMuro?

But when you're 21, you can, you can drive around, $1,100 a month, but you're driving a 911? That's like the dream.

• 1:03:07Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:07Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay. Next question, and this is from, next question, this, I'm gonna do two more.

• 1:03:14Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:03:15Doug DeMuro?

Okay, next question, we're gonna do two more, two more questions. This next one is from Jay Sturdy388. Given that Amazon confirmed the Grand Tour will get three new hosts, are you guys going for it? Why or why not? Years ago, they reached out to me for one of the shows, maybe it was Top Gear, I don't remember. And you should have seen what you had to do. You had to, like, agree that you would not post on social unless they approved it, or you had to agree. And it was like, I already make more money than on YouTube, and I'm more, I have more freedom. Like, I have zero interest in this. I didn't even reply to the casting call. Like, it wasn't even interesting to me. I think at the end of the day, like, TV shoots are not my thing. I like low-production, quick-moving stuff.

• 1:03:53Speaker 03

Plus, we could do things that are even better. Like, we have coming out next week. Stay tuned.

• 1:03:58Doug DeMuro?

  Ooh.

• 1:04:00Speaker 03

Did you want me to actually answer the question?

• 1:04:02Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:02Speaker 03

Oh, I would literally never. I, I, I love being part of the content with you guys, my friends. It's wonderful. It is also a, like, very small portion of my actual job here at Carson Feds. And I like the remaining portion of my career job here at Carson Feds so much.

• 1:04:16Doug DeMuro?

When we set up the pod, we, we were, like, about to start shooting one day, and we were like, oh no, who are we gonna have on it? Felipe, why don't you come join?

• 1:04:24Speaker 03

Yeah. It was excellent planning all around.

• 1:04:26Doug DeMuro?

And every time we do the pod, he resents us.

• 1:04:29Speaker 02

  I sense it every time.

• 1:04:31Speaker 03

I only, I only resent it when you're late.

• 1:04:34Speaker 02

But it gives him a chance to talk about normal cars, like the car business, which he loves more than anything.

• 1:04:39Doug DeMuro?

I had a topic today about a Chevy Malibu and you refused to talk about it.

• 1:04:42Speaker 02

  Reasonably.

• 1:04:44Doug DeMuro?

And so I think the answer is no. Kenan, would you go on the grand tour?

• 1:04:47Speaker 02

No, I'm a fan of like, I was a fan of, here's the thing, you're always going to be compared to the trio that did it, no matter what you do. And nobody does it better than those three. I want to see Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Haven and James May, especially James May, doing what they do.

• 1:05:04Doug DeMuro?

  Because they sell gin now.

• 1:05:06Speaker 02

I know, I have some wonderful. But like, I truly feel that like, they're in entertainment history, they're one of the greatest trios, period. And they did it for so long, at such a high level. Why compete? It's not that it would be competition with that, but like, you just can't capture that kind of lightning in a bottle more than once. And I, and there, I love watching the old stuff from Top Gear and the Grand Tour, like, they did it really well. I'm sad it's gone, of course, but they left us with quite a body of work.

• 1:05:36Doug DeMuro?

Yep, I agree with that. I do think that you would be a very good James May replacement, though.

• 1:05:41Speaker 02

No one replaces James, but he is my spirit animal, that's for sure.

• 1:05:45Doug DeMuro?

Final question from P33KYN, sounds like a British license plate. "Hi, how do you all feel about being called yuppies by Scotty Kilmer in his recent video? Doug DeMuro is talking crap about me and here's what I have to say." Alright, I want to address this. A lot of people sent me this video.

• 1:05:57Speaker 02

  Did you watch it?

• 1:05:58Doug DeMuro?

No, and here's why. Scotty, I actually have a lot of respect for Scotty because he just gets unreal views. But here's the deal, unreal, because Scotty didn't make it. I wish I could do what Scotty does. He's like in his house yelling at the camera and he makes, gets tons of views. But um,

• 1:06:13Doug DeMuro?

for years, I, as I got more and more popular on YouTube, a lot of people started to use my name in videos, like Doug DeMuro said this, here's why he's wrong, or I hate Doug DeMuro, or Doug DeMuro, whatever. And to be perfectly honest, I never watched any of that stuff. I think it's a cheap way to get views and I'm kind of busy. Like, I don't really want, I truly, like, what am I gonna click, what am I gonna watch of Scotty Kilmer? What, you tell me? What am I gonna, what am I gonna sit down and be like, instead of playing with my kids or playing with Kenan? Well, I'm gonna instead watch a Scotty Kilmer video, or any of these people who have used this. And I think, you know, whenever you can like simulate strife on YouTube, or in columns, articles, it gets a lot of clicks. And so I never read anything that's about me. I don't care.

• 1:06:56Speaker 03

What about being called a yuppie specifically? How do you feel?

• 1:06:58Doug DeMuro?

Scotty Kilmer has a way of talking. I love Scotty. Oh, legit bad respect to Scotty. He'll probably make another angry video about this, or maybe he'll be happy with this. I have no idea. And I promise you, I won't watch it.

• 1:07:09Speaker 03

  Honestly.

I've noticed it for years. I've noticed this. Like, people would be like, oh, Doug said this. I'm gonna do this video and include his name in the title. Because that starts this like, this like strife. And it's so funny. I, people complain about like, oh, the, you know, journalism is this. And so, well, you click on it. Like, people click on this stuff. They love this. They love this drama. And I won't participate. You will never see me complaining about any YouTuber, and definitely not putting in the title of any video. That is not the way things work in this content business.

I really assume that you've, at the very least, had Nick watch it. Because Nick, who's often the podcast, I think watches every YouTuber. So I just assumed he knew.

• 1:07:48Doug DeMuro?

He probably watches it himself. But I certainly won't, and certainly, should we start a beef with somebody right now?

• 1:07:54Speaker 03

  Nah.

• 1:07:55Doug DeMuro?

  I don't think so.

• 1:07:57Speaker 03

  Ah!

• 1:07:58Doug DeMuro?

I don't have anybody to start a beef with, though. Like, I don't have any negative feelings about it. A lot, some people have negative feelings toward me, but I love all of them.

• 1:08:05Speaker 03

We just have a lot of love towards specifically?

• 1:08:07Doug DeMuro?

  Whistling Diesel.

• 1:08:08Speaker 03

  Whistling Diesel.

• 1:08:09Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. Whistling, I mean, Whistling Diesel, number one, then who do you?

• 1:08:11Speaker 03

  Right.

• 1:08:12Doug DeMuro?

Maybe we should start a beef-

• 1:08:13Speaker 03

Maybe that's what starts some beef.

• 1:08:14Doug DeMuro?

Maybe we should start a beef with Tavorish.

• 1:08:15Speaker 03

  What you is, Tavorish?

• 1:08:17Doug DeMuro?

No, Freddie's great. Leave Freddie alone. All right. That's the end of that, ladies and gentlemen. It was the best podcast I've ever done. Do you want any parting words?

• 1:08:25Speaker 03

Yeah, download the app, and also go to merch.cordismit.com.

• 1:08:28Doug DeMuro?

Thanks, Blais. Always corporate, always. I appreciate it. Goodbye, everyone.

• 1:08:35Speaker 03

  Goodbye.
