• 2:44Jason Bateman?

  Good morning.

• 2:45Will Arnett?

  Good morning, Jason.

• 2:46Jason Bateman?

Good morning to you. Or afternoon, or wherever our listeners are.

• 2:48Will Arnett?

  Wherever we find you, sure.

• 2:50Sean Hayes?

Does anybody have big plans today at all? For anything?

• 2:54Jason Bateman?

I mean, I'm doing a pretty smoking podcast in the next couple of minutes. It's called Smartless.

• 3:00Sean Hayes?

  Oh.

• 3:02Jason Bateman?

  Cue the music.

• 3:21Jason Bateman?

  How's Seattle? Will, how's Seattle?

• 3:22Will Arnett?

  I'm in Seattle.

• 3:23Jason Bateman?

You're up there in Seattle, visiting family, or?

• 3:26Will Arnett?

I'm doing a little thing tonight with our friend Ed Vedder. Tonight, we're just doing like a little.

• 3:32Jason Bateman?

  Is it Ed now?

• 3:33Will Arnett?

  Yep.

• 3:34Jason Bateman?

He's just grown up a little bit?

• 3:36Will Arnett?

And Eddie and I are doing a little thing tonight. He's gonna perform. He claims that I might help him sing a song on stage. That's not gonna happen.

• 3:43Jason Bateman?

Because he's heard your impression of him?

• 3:45Will Arnett?

No, he hasn't yet, and I plan on doing it.

• 3:47Jason Bateman?

  Oh, you have to.

• 3:48Will Arnett?

But he said, he was like, hey, do you wanna, you know, what song do you wanna hear? I was like, well, what song do you not wanna play? And he was like, well, anything I don't know. And I was like, well, I don't know what you don't know. And he goes, well, you get up here and you'll sing. Everybody likes to sing, right? I'm like, no, Eddie, nobody wants to hear me sing.

• 4:01Jason Bateman?

  You have to do it.

• 4:02Sean Hayes?

  Unless it's, "Allo, Chris, Lee."

• 4:06Will Arnett?

I couldn't, you know what? I couldn't love him more. He's up on that level of those dudes that I just absolutely adore. Include him, I include our friend William Pitt, William Bradley Pitt in that, whom I just adore.

• 4:20Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, they're just nice guys.

• 4:21Will Arnett?

I just have like massive man crush.

• 4:22Jason Bateman?

He's got the middle name down and everything. Do you know a sign?

• 4:24Will Arnett?

  Uh, I think it's exit.

• 4:28Will Arnett?

Meaning get out of my face, they don't want me around, but that's okay.

• 4:32Sean Hayes?

Wait, do you remember when he was on and then afterwards he sent us all ukuleles or something? Remember that?

• 4:37Will Arnett?

  Yeah, he did, I know.

• 4:38Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, so it's nice.

• 4:39Will Arnett?

He's such a class act, he's such a great dude and um, anyway, so yeah, that's why I'm up here. I'm doing this thing tonight with him, which is, which is gonna be fun. I got my, uh, my buddy Kutch is coming in from Calgary, cause he's such a fan. So I said, why don't you come and join, you can hang out.

• 4:53Sean Hayes?

  What's old Kutch?

• 4:54Will Arnett?

My buddy Dave McCutcheon, he's one of my oldest friends.

• 4:57Sean Hayes?

  I cut myself.

• 4:57Will Arnett?

  And his name is Kutch.

• 4:59Jason Bateman?

  Oh, hey Kutch.

• 5:00Will Arnett?

  Yeah, how's it going?

• 5:01Jason Bateman?

Oh, is he a Dirty Flames fan?

• 5:03Will Arnett?

Well, no, he's from Calgary, but originally from Canora, Ontario, eh?

• 5:06Jason Bateman?

Oh, so that makes him a Dirty Leaf fan.

• 5:08Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 5:08Jason Bateman?

Actually, we got room for the Leafs, we got room for the Leafs.

• 5:12Sean Hayes?

  It's a really kutchy nickname.

• 5:14Jason Bateman?

You know what Sean? Wait until the guest gets in here, save some of that.

• 5:18Will Arnett?

Anyway, so I'm up here, uh, JB, when are we gonna see you? Are we gonna see you on the east coast? Are you gonna come to London to see Sean's play? That's the big question.

• 5:25Jason Bateman?

  Of course I am.

• 5:26Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, isn't that nice?

• 5:27Will Arnett?

Oh, I didn't know that, they're coming to stay with you guys?

• 5:29Jason Bateman?

We're staying with you for like three or four days, aren't we Sean?

• 5:31Sean Hayes?

Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be great.

• 5:32Will Arnett?

  Oh, that's fun.

• 5:32Sean Hayes?

It's gonna be super fun. Uh, so, uh, yeah, you know, go ahead Willie.

• 5:37Will Arnett?

  No, you go.

• 5:38Sean Hayes?

No, just I was, uh, Jason reminded me of staying with me in the house. I was talking to a friend that said, we were talking about like grocery shopping and what's the end. And he's like, I go, where can I get some good milk? And he's like, cow? And I was like, yeah, cow's milk, did we talk about this? And I was like, it just sounded gross when he said it, because I forgot that, you know, that's where, like that milk comes out of a teat, like is, I know now he meant like almond milk, oat milk? I was like, cause I didn't think there's any other milk, anyway.

• 6:08Jason Bateman?

Let's just back, let's go to the very, very beginning of the great story.

• 6:12Sean Hayes?

  I, I, I want.

• 6:13Jason Bateman?

When's the, wait Will, I'll just ask you Will, when's the last time you approached somebody and asked them where you could get some good milk? Right? That was the question?

• 6:21Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 6:22Jason Bateman?

Not, not milk, just general, but.

• 6:23Will Arnett?

This is somebody you know, not a stranger, right?

• 6:26Sean Hayes?

  This is correct.

• 6:27Will Arnett?

  Okay.

• 6:27Jason Bateman?

  Because, because.

• 6:28Will Arnett?

What was the context of, like, were you guys mid-conversation or was it, that was your opener?

• 6:32Sean Hayes?

No, I was talking about, cause I'm like, where do we go grocery shopping? Where, where's the new latest thing they have? In London, because I don't know what they, if they have like American stuff, like what's the equivalent?

• 6:42Jason Bateman?

And you hear good milk's hard to find.

• 6:45Sean Hayes?

Well, I didn't know, yes, I, I want really good non-fat milk. Anyway, let's get to the guest.

• 6:50Jason Bateman?

You really, no, we're not getting there. We're gonna stay here for a minute until we knock it out of you.

• 6:55Will Arnett?

Sean, you asked somebody where in London you could get good milk.

• 7:00Jason Bateman?

To find some good non-fat cow milk.

• 7:03Will Arnett?

Honestly, and I love you and I know a lot of people here, but honestly, what the fuck are you talking about?

• 7:08Sean Hayes?

I drink it every day, because I don't, I don't really drink soda anymore.

• 7:12Will Arnett?

Well, I tell you what, it's a good segue, because our guest might be able to help you locate some good milk in England.

• 7:18Jason Bateman?

When it comes to finding good teats.

• 7:20Will Arnett?

  Yeah, she, she, well.

• 7:22Jason Bateman?

Oh, no, it's a whole other, sorry.

• 7:24Will Arnett?

Take that back, you're gonna want to take it back, also because she's a really classy guest, you're really gonna want to take it back.

• 7:29Jason Bateman?

You put me up to that.

• 7:30Will Arnett?

Uh, she's a, it's a phenomenal guest that we have today, and, and she's, she hails from London, she lives in London.

• 7:36Jason Bateman?

  Oh, good.

• 7:37Will Arnett?

She's an Academy Award winner, three nominations, three-time Golden Globe winner, seven nominations, taken home two Emmys out of five nominations. You might remember her from her turn in Confetti, or as the hairdresser in I Could Never Be Your Woman.

• 7:52Jason Bateman?

He's trying to throw us off.

• 7:53Will Arnett?

Or even as Ian's mother in 2005's One Day. I remember her from one of my all-time favorite TV shows, Broadchurch, films like The Father, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, and of course, the favorite for which she won an Academy Award, which is a new film. Called The Roses, which she co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch, comes out on 29th, give it up for a huge welcome, Olivia Colman!

• 8:14Jason Bateman?

  This is a real pleasure.

• 8:16Sean Hayes?

  This is a real treat.

• 8:17Jason Bateman?

  Real pleasure.

• 8:17Speaker 03

  Hi, guys.

• 8:18Jason Bateman?

  Hello, good morning.

• 8:20Will Arnett?

  Hello, Olivia Colman.

• 8:22Speaker 03

Oh, it's so nice to be here.

• 8:23Sean Hayes?

Look how bright and cheery you are.

• 8:25Will Arnett?

  I know.

• 8:27Speaker 03

  It's very sunny here.

• 8:28Jason Bateman?

Really classing up Will's List, Will's List was really starting to sink a little bit, but you really buoyed it, Olivia.

• 8:38Speaker 03

And thanks for the teats comment.

• 8:43Jason Bateman?

No, I, I retract that with all apologies, but, but do you know where to find good non-fat milk there?

• 8:49Speaker 03

I know some excellent teats in London, yes.

• 8:51Will Arnett?

  Oh, wow.

• 8:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, don't you worry.

• 8:54Jason Bateman?

Good, good. Are you in London right now?

• 8:57Speaker 03

No, I've, uh, I'm out in the countryside, in the sticks.

• 9:01Will Arnett?

  Lovely.

• 9:01Jason Bateman?

  Oh, great.

• 9:02Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:02Jason Bateman?

  Lovely.

• 9:02Speaker 03

  Really nice, in my shed.

• 9:03Jason Bateman?

But you do live in England full-time?

• 9:04Speaker 03

  I do, yes.

• 9:05Jason Bateman?

  Lucky.

• 9:06Speaker 03

  Yeah. Do you like it?

• 9:08Jason Bateman?

Don't you love it? I love it.

• 9:09Speaker 03

  I do.

• 9:09Jason Bateman?

My mother's British, so I've always sort of had an affinity for it, but I've never spent the amount of time you'd think I would, being a son of, but every time I go there...

• 9:19Speaker 03

  Where's she from?

• 9:21Jason Bateman?

  Uh, Shrewsbury.

• 9:22Speaker 03

  Oh, nice, very nice. Lovely.

• 9:25Will Arnett?

JB, do you ever consider getting your UK passport?

• 9:29Jason Bateman?

  I haven't. Should I, or things...

• 9:31Speaker 03

  Oh, you should.

• 9:32Jason Bateman?

Why, what have you heard about America? Is something...

• 9:34Speaker 03

No, all good things, all good things.

• 9:35Jason Bateman?

  No?

• 9:35Will Arnett?

Look out the window. Just look out the window.

• 9:38Jason Bateman?

I don't, I don't get much here in the hostage cell.

• 9:43Will Arnett?

Yes, we all, we're all big fans. We all love, uh, England. We spend time there. Sean's on his way there in a couple of days.

• 9:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, I heard.

• 9:50Will Arnett?

  For a while.

• 9:51Speaker 03

I'm going to come and see you.

• 9:52Jason Bateman?

  You should.

• 9:53Will Arnett?

  I would love it.

• 9:54Jason Bateman?

This guy can play piano. Watch out, get ready to be impressed.

• 9:57Will Arnett?

So, Olivia Colman, you know, it's funny, I was, I went through your, your, your, your awards that you've won and nominations. You've got like, you've been nominated for like, I think it was like 156 international acting awards, and you've won like 65.

• 10:10Jason Bateman?

  Is that true?

• 10:11Will Arnett?

  Did you not know this?

• 10:13Speaker 03

  I didn't know that.

• 10:14Jason Bateman?

  Congratulations, you won.

• 10:15Speaker 03

  Thanks.

• 10:18Will Arnett?

But, but what, what's staggering is, is the breadth of your work, which is, and by that I mean not just the actual amount, but, but the actual, you know, that you've gone, you've done comedy, you've done drama, and everything in between. And it's really remarkable how you're able to sort of go back and forth between the two.

• 10:38Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 10:38Will Arnett?

So my first question to you is, do you at your heart consider yourself to be a comedic actor? Do you consider yourself to be a dramatic actor? Or none of the above?

• 10:48Speaker 03

A little bit of all of it?

• 10:50Will Arnett?

  Sure.

• 10:51Speaker 03

Um, yeah, I don't know. I mean, it's funny talking to all of you guys about it, because you're, you know, you all know, but, um... My first work was in comedy and I loved it. And sometimes you just need someone to take a punt to give you a chance to do the other thing.

• 11:08Jason Bateman?

  Right, right.

• 11:09Speaker 03

Comedy has my heart, because that's where I, you know, got work.

• 11:14Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 11:15Speaker 03

But I always wanted to do something dramatic and I was so pleased with it.

• 11:17Jason Bateman?

What was that punt? What was that punt you're talking about? What was the first?

• 11:20Speaker 03

It was Paddy Considine gave me the chance to do a film called Tyrannosaur.

• 11:25Jason Bateman?

  Oh, great.

• 11:26Speaker 03

It started as a short film and then he then he decided he wanted to know what happened to these characters and made it a longer film.

• 11:34Jason Bateman?

That was what? What was that? That was, I want to say 20 years ago? Longer?

• 11:39Speaker 03

Yeah, I think we filmed it in 2011.

• 11:41Jason Bateman?

  Okay.

• 11:42Will Arnett?

2011. And it was a huge, and it was like a big Sundance hit, wasn't it? It was a huge, I mean, it was like it made a lot of waves. It was a, you know.

• 11:49Speaker 03

Well, it's sort of, at the time, yeah, Sundance loved it, which makes me love Sundance very much. And then, and then it was sort of built as the years went by. So now film lovers have seen it, but at the time, it was it was quite a slow burn, I think.

• 12:07Jason Bateman?

But you didn't, you didn't just get incredible 20 years ago. I, I, I, you know, like, I imagine that there's been a real, you're just, you're such a special magical actor. I mean, that that is why you can do comedy and drama so well is because it doesn't, it doesn't ever seem like you're asking for a laugh. You're never doing a comedy. You're playing a character that is eccentric or whatever, such that it makes us all sort of giggle and then the same for drama. So when...

• 12:41Speaker 03

This is nice. I'm loving this.

• 12:43Jason Bateman?

Well, you won't like this question.

• 12:45Speaker 03

I'm very shallow, this is great.

• 12:46Jason Bateman?

You know, you know, like, when did you realize that you were special? And I know that that takes admitting that you think that you don't suck, but you're allowed to admit that you don't suck. And when did it start? Was it, was it, was it acting school? Did somebody tell you you're great? Or did you see yourself do something and go, oh, that, that works?

• 13:08Will Arnett?

  I can do this.

• 13:09Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 13:10Speaker 03

Yeah, I don't know. I mean, do you all remember the moment when you went, okay, don't suck?

• 13:15Jason Bateman?

  No, I guess I don't.

• 13:16Speaker 03

  You do.

• 13:17Will Arnett?

Wait, Sean, you had a moment where you thought you didn't suck?

• 13:24Sean Hayes?

Many of them. I'm like, oh my god. No, my first one was, my first one was really just really quick and then maybe it'll

• 13:31Will Arnett?

Great to have you on the show, Sean.

• 13:33Sean Hayes?

Thank you so much. No, I remember like, you know, the pilot of this show I did Will and Grace for many, many years.

• 13:41Will Arnett?

We love this show. It's so complicated.

• 13:47Sean Hayes?

It's actually not. It's the opposite of complicated.

• 13:50Will Arnett?

  He's gay, she's gay, they're gay.

• 13:54Jason Bateman?

  Wait, was the pilot, Sean?

• 13:56Sean Hayes?

It was the pilot that I didn't really, I'd never done a TV show. So it was like a pilot and I walked in not knowing how cameras were, anything, right? And I walked in and I got a laugh on just like some benign

• 14:12Jason Bateman?

  Right.

• 14:12Sean Hayes?

line, like, hey, Will, can I borrow your blank? I don't know what it was. And people laughed. I'm like, in my head, I'm like, why are they, why are they laughing?

• 14:20Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 14:21Sean Hayes?

I just said something. And then at the end of the pilot that night, this first assistant director came up to me and she was like, you know, she was like, you're, you're great. You're amazing. I'm like, really? Like, I didn't understand any of it.

• 14:35Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:36Jason Bateman?

It does take hearing it from the outside, doesn't it? I mean, Olivia, was there a moment there where somebody, I mean, sometimes it's a parent, you know, that goes, hey, you know, you've, you've done good. Or a teacher or was it, do you remember? Was there a moment like that?

• 14:49Speaker 03

Yeah, maybe my, I did my first ever school play when I was 16.

• 14:53Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 14:54Speaker 03

And that's the first time I'd done any acting. And yeah, I've got to say, I really enjoyed

• 15:00Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 15:01Speaker 03

afterwards, people clapping. That was brilliant.

• 15:04Jason Bateman?

Yeah. At that age too. That's such a tricky age where you're, you're, you're, you're sort of, you're just coming on to

• 15:09Speaker 03

I was so shit at everything. So rubbish. And finally, I thought, oh, and my mom and dad, who just couldn't really speak afterwards, went, oh, fuck. And I thought, oh, I think that's, that's a good thing.

• 15:21Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, yeah. That's interesting.

• 15:23Will Arnett?

I know it's very, it's very English to not, to not want to, you know, you know, sort of pat yourself on the back and, and I, I get it. But there are those moments that you have, there's undeniable, where you go like, yeah, okay, I was kind of, JB, I remember when we were doing Arrested Development. Twenty years ago, over twenty years ago.

• 15:43Speaker 03

  Love.

• 15:43Will Arnett?

And remember that guy, there was a guy, one of the first editors. And I remember you and I were walking and he came down the stairs. You and I were on the, on the old Culver lot. And he said, do you remember that guy? And he came over and he goes, guys, I've been cutting the show. And had it aired, we'd only made like three episodes. And he was like, guys, this show is really funny. We're like, really?

• 16:00Sean Hayes?

  I know, you never knew.

• 16:01Will Arnett?

We had no idea because we were in a vacuum. And he's like, that's really good.

• 16:05Sean Hayes?

I remember doing a twelfth night, the Shakespeare play twelfth night in high school.

• 16:08Jason Bateman?

Olivia, we're gonna beat you in one second.

• 16:09Sean Hayes?

Yeah, no, I would, because I want to know about your high school experience, the play that you said you had a response to. And I didn't know what, I didn't understand what I was saying. It's Shakespeare, literally Shakespeare. And, and I got a laugh on some, I'm like, why are they laughing? And I was sixteen years old, same thing. But, but what was yours?

• 16:28Speaker 03

Oh, the prime of Miss Jean Brody. Which I obviously didn't have a clue what it meant at the time.

• 16:33Will Arnett?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 16:33Speaker 03

And looking back now, it was all sort of about fascism and.

• 16:36Jason Bateman?

And so at that age, that's the age where you start to think about college, right? And, and picking a career. And so it was kind of timely that, that, that you kind of got this pat on the back. And, and did you then at that moment choose, this is the, this is the direction I'm gonna go?

• 16:51Speaker 03

Well, I sort of, I never really admitted it to anyone out loud. But in my head, I thought, I wonder if I'm allowed to be an actor. Um, because I didn't come from that, you know, so I didn't know.

• 17:02Will Arnett?

  Allowed.

• 17:03Speaker 03

Yeah. And, and so I didn't tell, I went off to teacher training college. And, which I left after a term and then worked as a cleaner for a long time. And still sort of secretly thinking, I really want to try the acting thing.

• 17:17Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 17:17Sean Hayes?

What did you teach in the?

• 17:18Will Arnett?

But you went, but you went to Bristol, sorry, you went to Old Vic Theatre School though, yeah?

• 17:22Speaker 03

Bristol Old Vic afterwards, yes. So, yes, I went to the teacher training college where I met my husband, who was at the university. And we were twenty, we were doing a play then. And I walked into rehearsal room and saw him and got thunderbolts. And, and then we did a play together. And he was doing law, but was sort of, didn't really like it. And then I said, run away with me and we'll go and be. Artists and join the circus and and so he did. It was nice. He finished his degree because he's, you know, proper clever.

• 17:59Jason Bateman?

And then what was that first, what was that first job or moment where you go, okay, this, this is, this is something I, I, I think I'm going to be able to make a living at this?

• 18:08Speaker 03

Well, we went to drama school. He got in first and then I got in the year after and we did drama school together. And then I got a job just before my last term, um, which was a sketch show. And I don't think it was particularly great. I wasn't very particularly good in it. But the fact that I'd got a job, I was so excited.

• 18:28Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 18:29Speaker 03

And then I felt like I'd, you know, I'd earned some money and I could actually put actor on my passport.

• 18:35Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 18:36Will Arnett?

  That's cool.

• 18:37Speaker 03

  Yeah, it was exciting.

• 18:38Will Arnett?

And then not, not long after that, you, you, when did Peep Show come into, into your world?

• 18:44Speaker 03

Peep Show, yeah, not long after that.

• 18:45Will Arnett?

  Show is great. Yeah.

• 18:46Speaker 03

  Oh, thanks. Yeah.

• 18:48Will Arnett?

  So good, so good.

• 18:49Speaker 03

I love it when people love Peep Show.

• 18:50Will Arnett?

I love that show. It's so good.

• 18:53Speaker 03

Rob and David, who I'd met when I was, when I'd left my teacher training college, um, Rob Webb, David Mitchell.

• 19:00Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 19:01Speaker 03

They had, you know, spent the interim time writing and working hard and then they met Sam and Jesse, who wrote, uh, Peep Show. Um, Sam Bain, Jesse Armstrong and.

• 19:13Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 19:14Speaker 03

Uh, and they said, we need a, a woman. And they went, oh, our mate Colly, uh, we could try her. And, um, and it was great. And I went, I was called into the BBC for an audition. I was so excited and I couldn't work out why. And.

• 19:30Jason Bateman?

  Excited, not nervous.

• 19:31Speaker 03

And they'd also, yeah, so nervous.

• 19:33Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 19:33Speaker 03

And they'd also got me in for the sketch show, which was.

• 19:37Will Arnett?

Did you, did you, did that, I, it must have helped sort of, uh, shape your, your sort of, your comedic, uh, uh, point of view a little bit, working on that show with those guys?

• 19:48Speaker 03

Yeah. And, I mean, I couldn't write for shit. If O'Gund was to my head, I couldn't write anything funny. But they can and. So they sort of make it easy, we say their words and, you know, you appear to be funny.

• 20:00Will Arnett?

Yeah. I would imagine working in that environment with those guys, you know, and you with your talent and working for the, I know, not to embarrass you. We're just, these are just facts, Olivia, so you have to accept them.

• 20:17Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 20:18Will Arnett?

Okay. So we have to, but taking that and I think working in that way with those guys who are so funny and you're so funny and as you guys developed that show and worked on Peep Show over the years, I wonder if that sort of that spontaneity and that ability to work in comedy helped you later on as you sort of gravitated towards more dramatic roles?

• 20:40Speaker 03

Yeah, maybe. I think, and you know, I don't know how you feel about it. You have to sort of be, have an enormous dollop of humility, I think, to be up to, for people to laugh at you.

• 20:54Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 20:55Speaker 03

  And with you.

• 20:55Jason Bateman?

Yeah, you gotta really pull your pants down.

• 20:57Speaker 03

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 20:58Jason Bateman?

  Okay, I'll do it.

• 20:59Speaker 03

  And some people aren't comfortable.

• 21:01Will Arnett?

  No, no, no, Sean, wait.

• 21:03Speaker 03

I think some people aren't comfortable with it and I think that helps with, you've got to show vulnerability in the drama side and maybe, because quite brave to show yourself, to be an idiot in front of people and for them to laugh and.

• 21:17Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 21:17Jason Bateman?

  To be broken.

• 21:18Will Arnett?

Yeah, it is and to be broken, but also because as you know, so much, you know, timing plays a big part of it in comedy, right? And so, so when you, and you really have to in comedy for the most, you really have to listen. I mean, if ever there was a discipline, you know, an area in our world that you have to listen is comedy because you have to.

• 21:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:38Will Arnett?

It's so important to be able to land stuff and so that, if you bring that into dramatic work, you know, you are really listening and you really understand rhythm. There is a sort of, almost a musicality to it, you know?

• 21:53Speaker 03

Yeah, totally. You're explaining it really well, yeah.

• 21:56Sean Hayes?

  Done. Yeah.

• 21:57Will Arnett?

First time. First time I've done it right.

• 22:00Sean Hayes?

I'm always surprised that people are still shocked when people in comedy can do drama. It's like, oh my god, what? It's like, well, what do you, where does it come from?

• 22:10Jason Bateman?

It doesn't work the other way, though, does it?

• 22:12Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 22:12Speaker 03

No, it doesn't. Yeah. Well, often it doesn't. Yeah.

• 22:16Jason Bateman?

Yeah. I mean, obviously, plenty can. But it is, it is odd how it's easier to make the move from comedy to drama than the other way around.

• 22:23Will Arnett?

I think that it does have something to do with that, with that rhythm and that listening and all that stuff and being present. Like, you're forced to... Oh, look, somebody's just delivered a drink.

• 22:32Speaker 03

Sorry, my husband's just brought me a massive gin and tonic.

• 22:34Jason Bateman?

  There we go.

• 22:35Sean Hayes?

  Oh, that's great.

• 22:36Will Arnett?

  So nice.

• 22:37Speaker 03

  That time of the evening.

• 22:38Will Arnett?

It is massive. I just want...

• 22:40Speaker 03

  Hi. Sorry.

• 22:42Jason Bateman?

That's Ed. That's Ed, the bartender?

• 22:43Speaker 03

  That's Ed. Thanks, Ed.

• 22:45Sean Hayes?

Thanks, Ed. We'll be right back.

• 22:50Sean Hayes?

We ask a lot of our homes these days, don't we? They're offices, they're where we gather with friends, where we unwind, basically where we live our whole lives. But here's a question: Does your home actually feel like you? Most of what fills a home is functional, produced for the masses, or chosen for convenience, not connection. Very little of it was chosen because it felt like you. Original art is different. It transforms your room into a self-portrait. That's what Saatchi art is for: helping guide you to art that moves you so your rooms reflect who you are. Every work is made by a living artist in sizes and at prices that fit the rooms you live in. And when you buy a piece, you're not just decorating, you're joining a community

• 26:50Sean Hayes?

And now back to the show.

• 26:54Jason Bateman?

  Didn't I just see a trailer for there's a you've got a you've got a hilarious comedy coming out?

• 26:58Speaker 03

  Ah, excellent segue. Yes.

• 27:01Jason Bateman?

But what is it? What it's a. Uh, I want to say it's like War of the Roses. Yes?

• 27:07Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 27:08Jason Bateman?

  Yes.

• 27:09Will Arnett?

It was in my introduction, Jason. You see, you weren't present and listening.

• 27:11Jason Bateman?

Wait, I was maybe I was busy clapping. Too busy trying to guess. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Wait, is it? Is it War of the Roses?

• 27:18Speaker 03

Yeah, so, well, that was a jumping off point.

• 27:21Jason Bateman?

  Yes.

• 27:22Speaker 03

Um, so, yes, you know, Tony McNamara, amazing. Tony McNamara, writer. He has loved War of the Roses, as we all did. And he's slightly changed it a bit. And so it's called The Roses. But that was definitely a big influence.

• 27:40Jason Bateman?

  Gotcha, gotcha.

• 27:41Sean Hayes?

  Wow.

• 27:42Jason Bateman?

  Who's the fella?

• 27:43Speaker 03

  Benedict Cumberbatch.

• 27:44Sean Hayes?

  Oh, that's great.

• 27:45Jason Bateman?

That part I remember. Yeah, remember, yeah, something hearing about Cumberbatch in your.

• 27:49Sean Hayes?

You know, and you know, you've probably heard this all the time. Americans, I think a lot of us were so and are still enamored with British comedy, right?

• 27:59Speaker 03

  That's nice.

• 28:00Sean Hayes?

And the even the most even the most crass vulgar like sketch shows or comedy shows that come out of it, there's still like a sophistication to the crass, you know what I mean? There's still like a slickness to it and a subtlety to it.

• 28:12Will Arnett?

He's getting to he always gets to he wants to know your views on Benny Hill. Go ahead, John.

• 28:18Sean Hayes?

No, no, but there is, there is like, so who, growing up, made you go like, was there anybody you'd watched on the telly or the movies that you were like, oh, that's really interesting?

• 28:28Speaker 03

Well, I think it works the other way, too. I mean, we, I'm obsessed with American comedy and on Channel Four here, every morning, we have Cheers and Frasier and King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond, all those lovely comedies that I remember.

• 28:46Sean Hayes?

  Any others, or?

• 28:47Speaker 03

  Nope.

• 28:48Jason Bateman?

  No, that's it.

• 28:49Speaker 03

  Will and Grace.

• 28:50Jason Bateman?

  Oh, shit.

• 28:51Will Arnett?

Only the good ones, only the good ones.

• 28:55Speaker 03

But literally, and Friends and Arrested Development and, no, and we are all, we can sort of quote, most of, you know, all my friends, excuse me, adore American comedy. And I find American comedy very sophisticated.

• 29:13Sean Hayes?

  That's so funny.

• 29:14Will Arnett?

It's so funny, it's so funny. We all sort of look longingly. I've always, my favorite film of all time is With Nell and I, and I've said it a million times.

• 29:21Speaker 03

Oh, my god, yes, that's fantastic.

• 29:22Will Arnett?

Yeah, and to me, it is the gold standard of, because it's not just a comedy, it's quite dramatic. Everything about it is so perfect, and I just find it so hard to believe that somebody can make something like that here.

• 29:33Jason Bateman?

Hard to believe that I have still not seen it. I'm putting it right in front of you right now.

• 29:36Sean Hayes?

  Say it again, Will.

• 29:37Speaker 03

Oh, it's such a treat. I'm so jealous that you haven't seen it.

• 29:40Will Arnett?

  I know, say it.

• 29:41Sean Hayes?

  What's the title again?

• 29:42Jason Bateman?

  With Nell and I.

• 29:43Speaker 03

  With Nell and I.

• 29:44Will Arnett?

It's the most perfect film. Richard E. Grant, Bruce Robinson wrote and directed, amazing.

• 29:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 29:50Will Arnett?

  Amazing.

• 29:51Sean Hayes?

Like with, like with a nail, like with.

• 29:53Will Arnett?

Oh, god, this is so embarrassing.

• 29:55Speaker 03

  Nail is one word, yeah.

• 29:57Sean Hayes?

Okay, well, that's what I asked.

• 29:58Will Arnett?

  It's his name.

• 29:59Jason Bateman?

It's a fair question, Sean, I've got you, I've got you, honey.

• 30:02Speaker 03

  You're quite right.

• 30:03Jason Bateman?

I don't know, there's something, but there is, like, British humor tends to be, to sort of lean back just a little bit and let you kind of discover it, whereas I think we in America, along with everything, we kind of want to show it to you a little bit quicker than you, than you might see it. Well, you know, we're a little bit more earnest, a little louder, a little more obvious, I find, is the difference. And I kind of, I kind of like having to lean in to find it a little bit more. I love that, the dryness and the no winking of British humor, so much.

• 30:36Speaker 03

I think that's, that's lovely of you, but I do sort of feel. That way about watching all of you perform.

• 30:42Will Arnett?

Yeah, there's, there's, yeah. I, I, I wonder, you know, I listed off your, your credits and I'm such a fan of so many of these things. First of all, you know, Broadchurch, again, that's what an example of a show that is like the gold standard to me. I mean, if every show could, I, I, for every once in a while, I look, you know, I go onto one of my streaming services that I subscribe to and go like, is there?

• 31:07Jason Bateman?

  BritBox.

• 31:07Will Arnett?

Is there, is there a way, yeah, BritBox, is there a way that there's a new series of Broadchurch? And I've just missed it and now it's gonna be on and no, there's not. Because I love, but you've, you've done so many things. And I, I think once in an interview, you said you, you don't really, that you're, you say that you're bad at choosing jobs. You just kind of do the next job that comes along. That can't possibly be true.

• 31:31Speaker 03

Well, I feel guilty saying no.

• 31:34Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 31:34Speaker 03

And I think in the early years, you know, not working very often.

• 31:39Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 31:39Speaker 03

Was actually brilliant because it's made me very grateful for work.

• 31:47Will Arnett?

  Same, same, same, same.

• 31:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 31:49Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 31:50Speaker 03

And I, I think it's better that way around than doing really well straight away, I think.

• 31:55Jason Bateman?

But you've, you've had, you, but you've had to sharpen your, your scissors a bit, right? Because I imagine you get a ton of offers and submissions and scripts to read and, and incoming calls because of all the obvious reasons. So you can't possibly say yes to everything. And so your, your picker does need to become somewhat refined, yeah. And is there something that you really look for that, that starts to have you lean one particular way? Is it, is it character? Is it script? Is it director, co-star, location?

• 32:27Will Arnett?

  Location.

• 32:28Speaker 03

  I don't know.

• 32:29Will Arnett?

  Right near home.

• 32:31Speaker 03

I'm getting slightly better at saying no because I, I want to be at home a lot.

• 32:38Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 32:39Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 32:39Speaker 03

Up until COVID, I had never been away from.

• 32:44Speaker 03

Ed for longer than two weeks.

• 32:47Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 32:48Speaker 03

Which in our world is quite unusual.

• 32:50Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 32:51Speaker 03

Um, I didn't really take jobs away from home and I made sure I got back.

• 32:54Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 32:55Speaker 03

  Cause I get quite homesick.

• 32:56Will Arnett?

And, and you've got, and you've got a family, you've got three, you've also managed to somehow have three kids in there as well.

• 33:02Jason Bateman?

  That's cool.

• 33:02Speaker 03

  And they're really nice.

• 33:03Will Arnett?

Yeah, I bet, I bet, I bet. That's the best.

• 33:07Jason Bateman?

Right. It is sort of, I was talking with a friend about this last night, you know, you could be a great parent, but it's still, you're just still crossing your fingers that you get good ones because

• 33:16Speaker 03

  Totally.

• 33:17Jason Bateman?

it's not really in your control. You can

• 33:19Speaker 03

  No.

• 33:19Jason Bateman?

move your kid just a little bit, right? We've talked about it on the show before in this nature versus nurture. How, what's your experience been like with that? You've got a great sample with, there were three, how you never get two of the same. So now you've got three there, uh, are they wildly different? They must be.

• 33:35Speaker 03

Um, well, there are two are boys, one's a girl.

• 33:39Jason Bateman?

  Okay, that's a good start.

• 33:40Speaker 03

So it's a bit of difference there, um, but, but also not really, you know?

• 33:45Jason Bateman?

  No?

• 33:45Speaker 03

Uh, no, and I feel when people talk about difference between genders, I, I sort of, I don't really see it between them. They all arrived nice. They were, they were so nice when they turned up.

• 33:58Will Arnett?

  Nice. Yeah.

• 33:58Speaker 03

And, um, and they're all equally emotional and funny.

• 34:04Jason Bateman?

  How old are they?

• 34:04Speaker 03

Uh, so nearly 20, nearly 18 and nearly 10. So we, there was a bit of a gap.

• 34:11Will Arnett?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 34:12Speaker 03

We were home and dry and went back in, had another.

• 34:14Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 34:14Will Arnett?

Yeah. Good, good for you. Yeah, we are.

• 34:17Jason Bateman?

So is that, is, sorry Willie, is, is the, is the eldest, uh, out of the house yet? Is the second eldest about to go out? Cause I'm dealing with that in our house and it's just like, it's so like, oh, I hate it.

• 34:28Speaker 03

Yeah. So our big one is in his second year of uni.

• 34:31Jason Bateman?

  Okay.

• 34:32Speaker 03

And second one is literally did his last A level today.

• 34:37Will Arnett?

  Hmm.

• 34:38Speaker 03

So, uh, he's at the beach now with his friends.

• 34:41Will Arnett?

  How'd it go?

• 34:42Jason Bateman?

  Celebrating.

• 34:43Speaker 03

  He said it was good.

• 34:44Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 34:45Speaker 03

Which is words that never came out of my mouth after an exam.

• 34:50Speaker 03

And yeah, the, the eldest one, when he Was about to go to uni, so we knew for a year, obviously, he was going to go to uni. And I pre-grieved, and every time he walked past me, I'd burst into tears and and I just imagined him going back to being a baby in my arms. And he was so sweet, he would just give me a cuddle, just knew I needed it. And then my husband was going, it'll be great, you know, it's exciting, this is what you want for them. And then on the day that we were driving him to uni, our youngest came out of the gate and watched us drive down the road and just stood there waving. And Ed burst into tears. And I went, are you fucking kidding? We've got five hours in the car.

• 35:33Sean Hayes?

Pull it together. Yeah, yeah. You know, speaking of being a good mom, you and Heartstopper, like, ay yi yi yi yi, like, I wish my mom, at the time, she turned around was great when I came out. But that scene that they used in the promo of you listening to your son come out and your response and your reaction, that scene was so powerful, I'm like, it's just incredible, and I wish everybody's experience was like that.

• 36:01Will Arnett?

Sean, give it a little bit of context, what's the context?

• 36:03Sean Hayes?

So Heartstopper was about a lot of things, but it was, Olivia played the mom of a kid who came out of the closet and his journey with, in high school and all of that stuff.

• 36:14Speaker 03

  Oh. It's, yeah, it's beautiful.

• 36:16Sean Hayes?

  It's coming of age.

• 36:17Speaker 03

Yeah. And I think just so beautifully written, it's like the blueprint for, you know, hopefully, parents will reply in that way.

• 36:26Sean Hayes?

And a huge hit, massive hit.

• 36:28Speaker 03

Yeah, huge hit, people have really loved it. That's been a lovely response, actually. Whenever anyone, often, men over the age of forty, you know, get really teared up and go, thank you so much for that.

• 36:40Sean Hayes?

Yeah, I wish it was that.

• 36:42Speaker 03

  Really nice.

• 36:43Sean Hayes?

That nice when we were all coming out in the eighties, but anyway.

• 36:45Jason Bateman?

How are you able, how are you able to keep your two-week thing going with as much work that you do?

• 36:53Speaker 03

  Well, I haven't since.

• 36:54Jason Bateman?

  You haven't?

• 36:55Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 36:56Jason Bateman?

Is Ed able to come with you? Does he, is he able to, does he do something that he can do remotely?

• 37:01Speaker 03

We do try to do that. Um, yeah, so he uh is a writer and we have a production company and he he sort of runs that. I am useless in that.

• 37:10Will Arnett?

And you guys produced, you, you, you produced The Roses, you and Ed, right?

• 37:14Speaker 03

  Ed did.

• 37:15Will Arnett?

  Yeah, okay, okay, okay.

• 37:16Speaker 03

Ed and Sonny March, that's Benedict's company.

• 37:19Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 37:19Speaker 03

Um, and Fox Searchlight and, yeah. Can't wait to see it. But not me. I've, I'm called an EP on it, but I did absolutely fuck all.

• 37:25Jason Bateman?

You get a fee. Um, what about, uh, did you, where'd you shoot that, in England or out here?

• 37:32Speaker 03

No, in England. So it's, we were, our characters live in America, but we did forgive me, UK for getting Devon and Dorset in a muddle. I mean, that's sacrilege. But we filmed in one of those and it was very beautiful.

• 37:47Will Arnett?

  You've really done it.

• 37:48Speaker 03

I'm gonna have to come over and live in America with you now.

• 37:50Jason Bateman?

Wait, what, I missed that. What'd you say?

• 37:52Speaker 03

Uh, I just got two counties in a muddle and they'll get really upset by that.

• 37:56Jason Bateman?

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, got you, got you.

• 37:58Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 37:58Jason Bateman?

Oh, wait, so then you both play, you're both British actors, you played Americans?

• 38:02Speaker 03

No, we played English because they thought, I think Tony liked the idea of our Englishness in America and Oh, that's great idea.

• 38:11Jason Bateman?

  Got you, got you, okay.

• 38:12Speaker 03

And the way we, we properly slag each other off and the America, incredible American cast, by the way. Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg, Zoe Chao.

• 38:22Jason Bateman?

  Great.

• 38:23Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah, amazing. Sunita Mani. Yeah. Just brilliant.

• 38:28Jason Bateman?

  Who directed the film?

• 38:29Speaker 03

  Jay Roach.

• 38:31Jason Bateman?

  Oh, Jay Roach.

• 38:32Speaker 03

Yeah. He's a, I love him. Yeah, lovely. Oh my God, poor thing. He was like herding cats.

• 38:37Will Arnett?

This is kind of like an all-star, this is an all-star movie, all-star director, all-star cast.

• 38:42Jason Bateman?

  It is.

• 38:43Will Arnett?

  August 29th.

• 38:45Speaker 03

  Oh, nice.

• 38:46Will Arnett?

I'm just giving you, yeah, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all realize it's a business at the end of the day. Listen, you may have got two-

• 38:52Speaker 03

You should all come to the premiere. Come to New York.

• 38:54Will Arnett?

Let's do it. We're definitely gonna come to the premiere.

• 38:56Speaker 03

  Will you?

• 38:56Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 38:57Speaker 03

Oh my God, we can have gin and tonics in the flesh.

• 38:59Jason Bateman?

How do you like that part of it? Doing the, doing the chat and giggle tour and doing the talk shows and things like, and stuff like this? Like, is, does it come naturally? It, it's never really to me. I, I, what, do you like it? Do you enjoy it?

• 39:10Speaker 03

  No. I, I, there's no point lying. I don't.

• 39:13Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, right?

• 39:15Speaker 03

Did Michelle Pfeiffer name drop say she does the film for free, it's the press they they pay her for?

• 39:20Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 39:20Speaker 03

Is that why I kind of feel the same?

• 39:22Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 39:22Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 39:23Will Arnett?

  I love Michelle Pfeiffer.

• 39:24Speaker 03

  Oh my gosh.

• 39:26Will Arnett?

I was gonna say, you mixed up two English counties for which you may never be forgiven. However, you've got so much credit, you've built up so much credit because you played arguably the most iconic English person of all time when you played the Queen.

• 39:41Speaker 03

  Oh yeah, that one, yeah.

• 39:42Will Arnett?

In The Crown. And I gotta ask.

• 39:44Sean Hayes?

I know, I just wanna know.

• 39:47Will Arnett?

The weight. First of all, you were so, Sean, no, sorry, it's not this show, it's not the Queen that you're thinking of.

• 39:53Sean Hayes?

No, it's the sequel to Heartstopper, yeah.

• 39:54Will Arnett?

  No, it's not.

• 39:55Sean Hayes?

  No, it's not.

• 39:55Will Arnett?

  It's not that Queen.

• 39:56Sean Hayes?

Got it, got it, got it.

• 39:58Will Arnett?

It's not, oh my god, you're here.

• 40:02Will Arnett?

  It's, it's, it's, it's.

• 40:07Sean Hayes?

  What are you wearing?

• 40:09Will Arnett?

  How very dare you.

• 40:12Will Arnett?

No, it's, it's, you must have been, when, how did, well, a couple of questions. How did that come into your world? How did you, how did that offer come around? And when you got it, and the weight of playing the Queen as an English person.

• 40:28Sean Hayes?

What you felt when you got the offer, like, wait, what?

• 40:31Will Arnett?

  All of that.

• 40:31Speaker 03

Well, I've been watching Clairvoy. They'd advertised it so, so much here, you know, big posters everywhere.

• 40:38Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 40:38Speaker 03

And, and everyone loved it, which made me go, I'm not gonna watch it. I don't wanna be pushed into.

• 40:43Sean Hayes?

Right, yeah, yeah. I like to discover things, yes.

• 40:46Speaker 03

Yeah, but then, of course, I watched it and absolutely loved it. I was obsessed with Clairvoy.

• 40:50Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 40:51Speaker 03

And then, my agent called me once when I was driving and said, that they'd like to see you for, she called, she said The Crown, no, she said The Queen, that's it. And I went, oh, the play? We're, oh. And she said, no, no, the telly, what's it called? I went, oh, it's The Crown? Are you kidding? And I went, absolutely, yes. She went, oh, you should think about it. Went, no, no, it's yes, and I said, absolutely, yes. And I hadn't really thought about the weight of what it would be.

• 41:18Sean Hayes?

So you're just, you're like, I'm all in.

• 41:20Speaker 03

I was so excited. Also, to be fair, I had a huge tax bill as well that year.

• 41:26Speaker 03

Really came at a good time.

• 41:27Jason Bateman?

  After they saw the cut?

• 41:30Will Arnett?

I thought you were gonna say, I thought you were gonna say, to be fair, I just had a huge gin and tonic, which I'm like.

• 41:35Speaker 03

I mean, that's often the case.

• 41:37Will Arnett?

  Yeah, of course, of course.

• 41:38Speaker 03

  But I was driving.

• 41:40Will Arnett?

So, well, right, so it was a smaller gin and tonic. So when you, um, so you get this, so your agent calls and you say, yes, straight away. Okay, great. Okay, fantastic. Now, there's the lead up, whatever it is, the months leading up to doing it, and you've got to get your head around playing the queen. So you go in and you meet everybody.

• 41:57Speaker 03

I did start to regret my decision a bit because I thought, oh, actually, this is massive. And, yeah, and everyone knows what she looks like. Everyone knows what she sounds like.

• 42:06Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 42:07Speaker 03

Yeah, and I did start to go, oh, fuck, I shouldn't have done this. Also, I can't walk posh.

• 42:11Jason Bateman?

  You can't walk posh?

• 42:13Speaker 03

  No.

• 42:13Jason Bateman?

Is there a walk? Is there a posh walk?

• 42:16Speaker 03

Yeah, I walk like a farmer.

• 42:20Speaker 03

And the director did shout out, he's not pleased that I keep reminding him of this, but he did say, more queen, less farmer.

• 42:30Jason Bateman?

Take your flats off and the heels on.

• 42:34Jason Bateman?

  Oh, that's funny.

• 42:35Will Arnett?

Wait a second, wait a second. I love that so much. So you get there and then it's day one, we've asked this before, which is like that, that, that moment when you, when you're gonna do your first take and you're rolling for the first time and like.

• 42:49Speaker 03

  Oh, God, yeah.

• 42:49Will Arnett?

Yeah, and you've got to, and like, okay, I'm now about to.

• 42:52Speaker 03

And that first time you open your mouth and you can sense everyone going, oh, no.

• 42:56Will Arnett?

And everybody's watching, right? The video village, whatever it is.

• 42:58Speaker 03

  Wrong choice.

• 42:59Will Arnett?

Oh, really? Let's see her, let's see her version of the queen, you know what I mean?

• 43:04Speaker 03

And I can watch back that first scene I did and I, I can tell that I wasn't.

• 43:11Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 43:11Will Arnett?

Well, talk about it, talk about it, talk about it.

• 43:13Speaker 03

Well, it was, I think they did try to do things chronologically, so it was my. The stamp reveal, you know, when they they update our our stamps.

• 43:23Will Arnett?

  Yes.

• 43:24Speaker 03

Uh, with the as the monarch ages. And so they went from Claire Foy's face, beautiful, young Claire Foy, to me. And um, I I guess I really felt incredibly nervous. I think I had quite a skirt below my knees, but my knees were absolutely going up and down. You know, that wobbly knee thing.

• 43:44Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 43:44Speaker 03

Yeah, and I I sounded quite, it was really quite tight in the back of the stage. Um.

• 43:49Will Arnett?

I wonder if that worked, though. I wonder if that worked, like, maybe, you know.

• 43:53Speaker 03

I don't know. I don't ever look either. I don't want to know and people people might have been writing in going, what the fuck? Why is she doing it?

• 43:59Jason Bateman?

All right, so then so then two questions. So it does sound like yes is the answer to the first one, which is, do you watch, you know, playback on set or once the job is done?

• 44:07Speaker 03

  Uh, not on set, no.

• 44:09Jason Bateman?

  You can't, so once it's.

• 44:09Speaker 03

So I think it takes too much time. I just want to get get the day done.

• 44:12Will Arnett?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 44:13Jason Bateman?

Well, but yeah, exactly. But maybe once they once they move on, you know, they're setting up the next shot. I I've always found that it's helpful for me to look at like just the first couple of days to see if I'm wildly off track or not, right? To see how it's kind of coming across. Um, but you don't, so you wait you wait until it's all done and then.

• 44:34Speaker 03

I didn't really want to on that first day. I think I would have unraveled.

• 44:38Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay.

• 44:39Speaker 03

Sort of say, oh, I've just got to keep going. It's going to get better. I'll relax as we go.

• 44:43Jason Bateman?

Right, and then once it's done.

• 44:44Will Arnett?

JB, so JB, you're watching you're watching first couple of days. You're watching dailies or you're watching playback?

• 44:49Jason Bateman?

Yeah, to see, uh, but either, both.

• 44:52Will Arnett?

  Really?

• 44:53Jason Bateman?

Yeah, uh, just to see if I'm kind of in the same movie, like dailies. I'll look at, I'll see scenes that I wasn't on the set for to see if I'm in the same tone, the same project as they are.

• 45:02Speaker 03

  Oh, that's a good idea.

• 45:03Jason Bateman?

But then, uh, but then, once it's out, do you not look at reviews?

• 45:08Speaker 03

Uh, well, my husband will show me if it's a good one.

• 45:11Jason Bateman?

  Gotcha.

• 45:12Speaker 03

And if anyone's been mean, I don't want to see it.

• 45:14Jason Bateman?

  Gotcha.

• 45:14Speaker 03

Because then that's all you think about. You never remember the good bits. You remember the

• 45:17Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 45:17Speaker 03

The bad bits that people said.

• 45:19Jason Bateman?

I know, I know, I know. But I always struggle with like, well, but we're making this for the public and it'd be helpful to see if what I think is working works for the masses, right? Because you aren't looking for a consensus.

• 45:32Speaker 03

But don't you ask someone else, a trusted friend, to look for you?

• 45:36Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 45:36Speaker 03

  I couldn't.

• 45:37Will Arnett?

But also, you are making it for public consumption, but I'm not making it for them. I'm making, I always think like, I'm making it for me.

• 45:45Speaker 03

Yeah, you have to want to watch it, don't you?

• 45:48Jason Bateman?

  It's tricky.

• 45:48Speaker 03

  Yeah, it is tricky.

• 45:49Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 45:52Sean Hayes?

  We'll be right back.

• 45:55Sean Hayes?

All right, back to the show.

• 48:28Will Arnett?

So you were talking about this great cast he worked with on The Roses and Kate McKinnon and Andy Seabird.

• 48:34Speaker 03

Well, Dan, you're very good at bringing it back around.

• 48:36Jason Bateman?

  No, this guy's not level.

• 48:37Speaker 03

  Very proficient at this.

• 48:38Will Arnett?

Well, I'm not just doing it for, well, you know, I'm one of the worst interviewers on the planet.

• 48:42Jason Bateman?

  No, don't you say that.

• 48:44Will Arnett?

Sean was nominated once when we first started. Sean was nominated for Best Interviewer and Jason and I were snubbed.

• 48:51Speaker 03

  Furious.

• 48:52Jason Bateman?

  They took it really hard.

• 48:54Speaker 03

Is this why you're all in separate rooms?

• 48:55Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 48:56Speaker 03

  You can't be together.

• 48:57Will Arnett?

This is why we went to Seattle.

• 48:59Jason Bateman?

  Right.

• 49:00Will Arnett?

But I was gonna say, with those great people in the, did you, was there a lot of, there must have been a lot of fun, there must have been, because Kate McKinnon and Andy in particular are so funny and so, such great improvisers.

• 49:12Jason Bateman?

  And Benedict is wonderful, right?

• 49:14Will Arnett?

I don't know Benedict at all.

• 49:15Speaker 03

  Oh, God, yeah.

• 49:16Jason Bateman?

Yeah, just a tiny bit. I just only met him a couple of times, but he seems to have an incredibly good sense of humor.

• 49:20Speaker 03

Really does, and just so enthusiastic.

• 49:23Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 49:24Speaker 03

And like a great, big, intelligent, human Labrador.

• 49:26Will Arnett?

I saw him once repacking his suitcase in the lobby of the Greenwich Hotel. That's the only time ever. I didn't say hi, because he looked like he was really, he was really trying to jam something, and this is a true story. He was really trying to jam, you know, in that little part right there between the restaurant and the thing, yeah.

• 49:41Jason Bateman?

Wasn't he mumbling, said like, no, the dogs will smell it here. I gotta get rid of it.

• 49:45Will Arnett?

I should have just swallowed it. I should have just swallowed it.

• 49:53Will Arnett?

But it must have been, it must have been a lot of laughs on it, like a lot of improvising and.

• 49:58Speaker 03

There were some scenes where we were all together, like a dinner table scene. And it was so hard to get through the day.

• 50:04Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 50:04Speaker 03

And I really felt for poor Jay Roach.

• 50:07Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 50:07Speaker 03

  Just, no.

• 50:09Jason Bateman?

Yeah, and the crew waiting for you guys to finish giggling.

• 50:11Speaker 03

I know, to stop finding ourselves so funny.

• 50:14Jason Bateman?

I know. The, uh, well, did the, I've worked with some really incredible actors that are great at improvising and coming up with alternate jokes and stuff.

• 50:23Will Arnett?

  Oh, thanks, man.

• 50:24Jason Bateman?

And it, it, it, it makes, it made me go back to my dressing room in between setups and try to catch up and, and look at my scene and try to come up with other lines so that I, I was being as sort of creative as, as, as they are. Did, did you find, did you find that kind of, not pressure, it's not like a bad thing.

• 50:46Speaker 03

I, I think because I've never written comedy.

• 50:50Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 50:50Speaker 03

And we were talking about this, Benedict and I, we're very much, Tony McNamara's written it and our job is to do the script. And then we're sort of, it's fairly boring of us. But then you're in the, you know, in a room with Andy Samberg and Kate McKinnon, for example. And you go, oh, fuck, I mean, I can't do that. I don't think I can do that.

• 51:10Jason Bateman?

  Which is also fine.

• 51:11Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 51:12Speaker 03

And I think know your, know your strengths, know your limits.

• 51:15Jason Bateman?

  Exactly.

• 51:15Speaker 03

And, and I'm so thrilled to have, to have seen them do what they do. So, you know, SNL alumni and.

• 51:22Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 51:23Jason Bateman?

  It was so fast.

• 51:24Speaker 03

  Did I say, like, around?

• 51:26Will Arnett?

Yeah, that's right, that's right. SNL, yeah, yeah. Can we, can we, can we change lanes for a second? Just talk about The Favorite for a minute, it was such a brilliant film. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. How did that, how did that come into your world?

• 51:39Speaker 03

Uh, I think it was because I'd done The Lobster with Yorgos Lanthimos.

• 51:44Will Arnett?

  Oh, right, yes, right.

• 51:47Jason Bateman?

What a filmmaker he is, my goodness.

• 51:49Speaker 03

  Oh, my God, he's amazing.

• 51:51Will Arnett?

  Yorgos Lanthimos.

• 51:52Speaker 03

If, if he asks you, say yes.

• 51:54Jason Bateman?

Please, I'd pull cable on his set, so you're kidding me?

• 51:57Will Arnett?

Jason emails him every day, every day Jason emails him.

• 51:59Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I think, I might not have the right address.

• 52:01Will Arnett?

  I'm still alive.

• 52:04Will Arnett?

No, so, so right, so you did the lobster, so then The Favourite comes along. God, that film is remarkable.

• 52:09Speaker 03

Oh my god, and I read the script and I love, you know, when you get proper. Sometimes you go, I think I like it, but this one you go, oh my god. I could potentially try and run someone over if they were up for the same job. You know, I want it so much.

• 52:22Jason Bateman?

Right, because that, it's so clear on the page, what a, what a, what a colorful character that is. You must, like, I would imagine your only challenge was like, what version of color should I do on this character? Because it was just, it's just so spicy, right?

• 52:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:38Jason Bateman?

Or was it clear to you from, right from the beginning?

• 52:40Speaker 03

Yeah, sort, yeah, it was so, you know, clear on the page, I thought. Also, some actor friends of mine, they read a script and they, they read it as one thing and then they read it again in another way and they read it again, they see all this and I've never had that. And I sort of, you know, when they talk about their, their way of doing things, I panic. I think, oh, I can't, I think I'm a very simple person, I just can't really.

• 53:09Will Arnett?

  I know what you mean.

• 53:10Speaker 03

And so that, that, reading The Favourite, I was like, oh god, I can picture exactly. I, I really want to do it. And then I was doing Broadchurch, I think the third season, and I, I couldn't fit it in. And I sort of, you know, lump in your throat when you go, I'm not available. And, and he said, okay, well, we'll wait. It was amazing.

• 53:33Jason Bateman?

  Wow.

• 53:34Will Arnett?

  Wow.

• 53:35Speaker 03

So he waited for, for me, which was, I mean.

• 53:38Will Arnett?

  What a vote of confidence.

• 53:39Speaker 03

Oh god, I love him forever for that.

• 53:41Jason Bateman?

Did you, when was the first time you gave him like a little taste of the character? Was that, was that scary? Like, were you sitting around a table? Were you guys progressing at all?

• 53:49Speaker 03

Well, he, because he did, he, he's from theater background and he does, we did, I think, three weeks of rehearsal.

• 53:55Jason Bateman?

  Oh, great.

• 53:55Will Arnett?

  What a luxury.

• 53:57Speaker 03

  I know.

• 53:58Will Arnett?

  Amazing.

• 53:58Sean Hayes?

It makes for a better product.

• 54:00Speaker 03

Yeah. And also, he does it with sort of theatre games. So you might do, he loves to do the whole script from start to finish. But without maybe saying it, you might go blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Or in the sort of gist of what you're saying and you all just go blah, blah, blah, blah to each other. Um, and get through the whole story.

• 54:18Jason Bateman?

  Wow.

• 54:18Speaker 03

Or you do it all holding hands and you're tying yourselves in a massive knot. So you end up with your face near someone's bum and you know, someone's foot in your armpit. And so you end up.

• 54:27Jason Bateman?

  Really?

• 54:28Speaker 03

  With no inhibitions.

• 54:29Sean Hayes?

  Right.

• 54:30Jason Bateman?

  Wow.

• 54:30Speaker 03

  Pissing yourselves laughing together.

• 54:32Sean Hayes?

  Right.

• 54:32Speaker 03

So you, you start your first day on set, you know, the film Inside Out. You know each other, totally at ease with each other. It, it, I've never done anything like it. It was amazing. It was lovely.

• 54:42Sean Hayes?

It's the best. It's, it's like astonishing that not every director does that. It's like, don't you want the whole cast to feel like they know each other and like there's history there? Otherwise it's like, hi, nice to meet you. Ready to go? Well, I don't know. Uh, we haven't had even a dinner together.

• 54:55Speaker 03

  Sex scene.

• 54:56Sean Hayes?

Yeah, yeah. It's like, I don't understand why it's not always like that. Yeah.

• 55:00Jason Bateman?

Oh, I'd love to know more about that. Yeah, that whole rehearsal process. That's amazing.

• 55:04Speaker 03

  It was really nice.

• 55:05Sean Hayes?

Jason's gonna come in London. Go ahead.

• 55:08Speaker 03

Thank you. Oh, yeah. We'll all come. We'll all come to your rehearsals.

• 55:11Will Arnett?

Yeah, that's a good idea. That's a good idea. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 55:15Speaker 03

  Let's do that.

• 55:15Will Arnett?

And do the games and do the stuff so, so that Jason's face ends up near Rashaan's bum.

• 55:19Jason Bateman?

  There we go.

• 55:21Sean Hayes?

  For a second time.

• 55:22Jason Bateman?

  Uh huh.

• 55:24Sean Hayes?

Wait, Olivia, what were you gonna say? I cut you off. I'm sorry.

• 55:26Speaker 03

  I have no idea. Sorry.

• 55:27Sean Hayes?

  Okay.

• 55:27Speaker 03

I, I, my attention span is, no, sorry.

• 55:32Will Arnett?

So, so then you, you know, again, at, at risk of embarrassing you further, but you win, you win the Academy Award for The Favorite. And.

• 55:40Sean Hayes?

  Great speech, by the way.

• 55:41Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 55:41Will Arnett?

  Great, great speech.

• 55:43Sean Hayes?

I did. I loved the speech. It was so memorable.

• 55:46Speaker 03

  Thanks so much.

• 55:47Will Arnett?

And then the next, so then the next day, so you win the Academy Award. You're great. Rashaan's right. Great speech. And then you win the, and then it's the next morning and you wake up and then it's like. Just get a cup of coffee like every other day, like how.

• 56:00Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 56:00Will Arnett?

  You know.

• 56:01Speaker 03

Or a couple of ibuprofen and a few coffees.

• 56:04Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, of course. Late night.

• 56:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:08Speaker 03

  Yeah, kind of bonkers.

• 56:10Will Arnett?

Yeah, and then you've got to, you've got to fly home with it, right?

• 56:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:13Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 56:14Speaker 03

Yeah, and, and I put it in my hand luggage because I, I didn't want it to go into the hold of Lane.

• 56:19Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, of course.

• 56:20Speaker 03

And then as stewardess, and stewardess is asking, can, can we see it? Have you got it? I went, yeah, I've got it in my bag and.

• 56:27Jason Bateman?

How about that going through, going through the, you know, the. Metal detector.

• 56:30Speaker 03

  The beeper.

• 56:31Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 56:31Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:32Jason Bateman?

  Did they see it?

• 56:33Speaker 03

Yeah, I suppose so. They must have done.

• 56:35Jason Bateman?

Just going by the screen, there's an Oscar going through the screen.

• 56:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:39Jason Bateman?

Yeah, imagine that shape comes up pretty clear on the, on the, right?

• 56:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:43Will Arnett?

Yeah, and you don't want to, you don't want to, you don't want to check it in the luggage and put it in the hold because if they lose it, then it's good night, Oscar, you know?

• 56:50Speaker 03

  Oh, God, yeah, yeah.

• 56:51Jason Bateman?

Oh, my goodness, Will, that's wonderful.

• 56:53Will Arnett?

  That's Sean's play, that's Sean's play, good night, Oscar.

• 56:58Jason Bateman?

  Oh, my God.

• 56:58Will Arnett?

  It's a terrible tieback.

• 57:00Jason Bateman?

So, so you take it out and are you showing it around the cabin there with the stewardesses and whatnot? Or is it just kind of just unzip and just take a look in the bag?

• 57:07Speaker 03

Just a little, a little look in the bag because I, I find, I, I don't have anything out on show at home. I find it a little.

• 57:14Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 57:15Speaker 03

  Bit showing off.

• 57:16Will Arnett?

God, you're so English, you're so English, Olivia, it's delightful, it's absolutely delightful.

• 57:20Jason Bateman?

Is it hidden in a closet somewhere?

• 57:22Speaker 03

Yeah, it was in a cupboard in our sitting room.

• 57:28Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 57:28Speaker 03

Um, just because I, but, but we've discovered the, the cupboard's a bit damp. So, we live in a very old house, our whole house is, um, front of it's sixteen hundred.

• 57:38Jason Bateman?

  Wow.

• 57:38Speaker 03

  So, I know.

• 57:39Jason Bateman?

  But it's beautiful.

• 57:41Speaker 03

But it's so pretty, but it is a bit damp.

• 57:44Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 57:45Speaker 03

And, um, and our lovely Darren, who's a, um, a carpenter, handyman, painter, he, he opened the cupboard, went,

• 57:53Will Arnett?

  Oh, Lord.

• 57:53Speaker 03

Are you fucking kidding? And I went, uh, you know, I'm stamping here and, uh, and so he made me take it out and I've now got it on a bookshelf, but behind a book. So that's.

• 58:03Jason Bateman?

  Okay.

• 58:03Speaker 03

I, I know it's there and I, and I can say hello to him.

• 58:07Jason Bateman?

  No, that's nice.

• 58:08Speaker 03

  It's really nice.

• 58:09Jason Bateman?

  That's very good.

• 58:10Speaker 03

  So Darren rescued him.

• 58:12Jason Bateman?

You get another one, you bake bookends, you know, then you're gonna have to look at it.

• 58:15Will Arnett?

So, so before we let you go, I mean, you, you. You've got a very busy life. You're working all the time. You're just, I mean, you could

• 58:22Jason Bateman?

  And a mom.

• 58:23Will Arnett?

And you're a mom and you have, and you're doing all, and you're out in the countryside. What do you do? Is your, we always ask people, is there one sort of guilty pleasure, like thing that you do?

• 58:34Jason Bateman?

  Mm-hmm.

• 58:35Will Arnett?

Like little like sort of TV that you watch that you enjoy?

• 58:39Jason Bateman?

What's the dumbest thing you do?

• 58:40Will Arnett?

What's the dumb, do you do anything dumb as a sort of hobby that's kind of secret and nobody knows about?

• 58:45Speaker 03

I think I tell everybody everything, so nothing's really very secret.

• 58:48Will Arnett?

  Good for you.

• 58:49Speaker 03

But I really love shit reality telly.

• 58:53Will Arnett?

  Yeah, good, there we go.

• 58:54Speaker 03

My god, have you seen Too Hot to Handle?

• 58:56Will Arnett?

  No.

• 58:57Speaker 03

  Fucking brilliant.

• 58:59Will Arnett?

  What is that?

• 58:59Jason Bateman?

Is that up there with like Love Island and Below Deck and stuff like that?

• 59:03Speaker 03

Below Deck, I love Below Deck.

• 59:04Will Arnett?

  Yeah, I do, me too.

• 59:05Speaker 03

Love Island I've never seen, but Too Hot to Handle is, you please watch it. So it's all these really over-sexed, incredibly hot, beautiful people who are on this island and they're told they're there for a show, a dating show. And then, it's great, and then the presenter comes on and says, actually, you're all here for Too Hot to Handle. And you can see them going, oh god, because it means that they're not allowed to touch each other. And they start with a money pot of like a hundred grand and they forget that there's a million cameras in this house. And anyone, so masturbation is like five grand, a snog is two grand. It's hilarious.

• 59:49Speaker 03

  Or, it's so funny.

• 59:51Jason Bateman?

It's hilarious, I gotta watch it.

• 59:52Speaker 03

It's so good. And then the next morning, this sort of, it's like a, what are those, I don't have one, those gadgets in the house that you can talk to?

• 1:00:00Jason Bateman?

  Oh yeah, like Alexa.

• 1:00:01Speaker 03

Alexa. Alexa. So this Alexa-type thing goes, let's all meet on the sofa and they'll go, what, I haven't, I haven't, do you, who's lost us some money? And then she says, the money pot is now down to ninety grand.

• 1:00:15Jason Bateman?

  If someone was being shanked.

• 1:00:16Speaker 03

And they're all looking at each other.

• 1:00:17Jason Bateman?

And you gotta figure out who did it.

• 1:00:18Speaker 03

So someone, and then they clear, they go to like a hand moving under the duvet and all, it's so funny.

• 1:00:24Jason Bateman?

  That's really funny.

• 1:00:26Will Arnett?

Ten grand, but it's only five grand, yeah, no, Gary jerked off twice.

• 1:00:32Jason Bateman?

Oh, that sounds so good. Wait, is that on British?

• 1:00:34Speaker 03

And sometimes I think, totally worth it. I'll take it.

• 1:00:37Jason Bateman?

Is it a British show or is it on like Netflix or something like that?

• 1:00:40Speaker 03

  I have a feeling it's.

• 1:00:42Will Arnett?

  American.

• 1:00:42Speaker 03

I've seen it with Americans and.

• 1:00:43Sean Hayes?

  We can Google it.

• 1:00:44Speaker 03

  English. I think it, yeah.

• 1:00:45Jason Bateman?

  All right.

• 1:00:46Sean Hayes?

What about the, what about the Traitors? Have you seen the Traitors?

• 1:00:48Speaker 03

  Oh, love Traitors. Love it.

• 1:00:51Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, I love it.

• 1:00:52Speaker 03

We have gone on holiday every year with four families and we play Mafia.

• 1:00:57Sean Hayes?

  Same.

• 1:00:58Speaker 03

  Every night.

• 1:00:59Sean Hayes?

Yeah, during the pandemic. Yes, now listen to this. During the pandemic, we were playing Mafia on Zoom with like 20 people, right?

• 1:01:05Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 1:01:06Sean Hayes?

And after like 10 times, I'm like, I feel like this is a TV show, but I didn't do anything about it. And then cut to one of the biggest shows in the history of the world, The Traitors. I mean, it's exactly the same thing.

• 1:01:16Jason Bateman?

Where do I find that? Well, Sean?

• 1:01:19Sean Hayes?

On Peacock is at the Alan Cumming, the American version.

• 1:01:24Speaker 03

Yes, you have Alan Cumming. I haven't seen the American one yet.

• 1:01:27Sean Hayes?

Oh, yeah. And I've seen the UK version as well, which is.

• 1:01:29Will Arnett?

And then, what's her name? Claudia.

• 1:01:31Speaker 03

  Claudia Winkleman.

• 1:01:32Sean Hayes?

  She's great.

• 1:01:33Will Arnett?

Who's my friend Chris's wife. She does the UK version.

• 1:01:37Speaker 03

  Oh, my God, she's incredible.

• 1:01:38Sean Hayes?

  You know her?

• 1:01:40Will Arnett?

I do. Yeah, she's my friend Chris TK's wife.

• 1:01:43Sean Hayes?

I would love to meet her.

• 1:01:44Will Arnett?

Yeah. But JB, remember we played Mafia every night at New Year's this past year?

• 1:01:49Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:50Will Arnett?

With the kids and with every, we had all our kids. We had everyone.

• 1:01:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, the kids will play.

• 1:01:54Will Arnett?

  Twenty five of us.

• 1:01:55Speaker 03

Do you find if you get murdered, you know it's your kids that have done it?

• 1:02:00Speaker 03

  It's every time.

• 1:02:01Will Arnett?

It happened a lot. It happened a lot.

• 1:02:03Speaker 03

  Kids always murder their parents.

• 1:02:04Will Arnett?

I ended up, I tell you what, I ended up having to run it most of the times. I only got to play like twice of like the 20 times we did it.

• 1:02:11Jason Bateman?

  Right.

• 1:02:11Will Arnett?

I had, which was a bummer.

• 1:02:13Sean Hayes?

And if I get, if I get, if I pick the killer card and I'm the murderer, I start laughing immediately. Like I'm the worst.

• 1:02:19Will Arnett?

What, you do a killer, you guys do cards that you pick?

• 1:02:22Sean Hayes?

Yeah, yeah. Or somebody is, yeah, yeah.

• 1:02:24Will Arnett?

No, we assign. We assign. We every close their eyes and we go around and whoever's running it assigns.

• 1:02:29Speaker 03

  Oh, we do cards.

• 1:02:30Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, we do.

• 1:02:31Will Arnett?

  Interesting.

• 1:02:31Speaker 03

Same as Sean. And we have the same guy called Guy, who is the best guy at running it. And he loves it.

• 1:02:40Will Arnett?

  He likes to run it.

• 1:02:41Speaker 03

He's got a gentle Welsh accent and it really works. He's hilarious.

• 1:02:46Sean Hayes?

Olivia, when I, if we see each other in London, we should play.

• 1:02:48Speaker 03

Oh, my God, we will. I'll get Guy along.

• 1:02:51Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:51Will Arnett?

  Oh.

• 1:02:52Jason Bateman?

Do it while me and Amanda are there, Shaunie.

• 1:02:54Sean Hayes?

Yeah, yeah, we should. That'd be so fun.

• 1:02:56Speaker 03

  Let me know.

• 1:02:57Will Arnett?

  Well, Olivia Colman.

• 1:03:00Jason Bateman?

I'm so thrilled to meet you.

• 1:03:01Speaker 03

I've had such a nice time, thank you.

• 1:03:03Will Arnett?

What an absolute thrill. What a huge, massive fan we all are of yours. Massive fans.

• 1:03:09Speaker 03

Well, me too. I was incredibly nervous. For the first half of this, my heart was going like mad.

• 1:03:14Jason Bateman?

And then Ed came in with the lubrication.

• 1:03:17Speaker 03

I bless Ed, he could tell that I needed a little calm.

• 1:03:20Jason Bateman?

  You were fantastic.

• 1:03:21Will Arnett?

  No, you were terrific.

• 1:03:22Jason Bateman?

Very nice of you to do this.

• 1:03:23Sean Hayes?

  Nice to meet you.

• 1:03:24Will Arnett?

  Thank you for doing this.

• 1:03:25Speaker 03

Oh, thank you for having me.

• 1:03:26Will Arnett?

  Have a great summer.

• 1:03:27Speaker 03

I'll see you in London, or we'll play Matchstick.

• 1:03:28Sean Hayes?

  Yes, we'd love it.

• 1:03:29Will Arnett?

In London, and a lot of success with The Roses. August 29th. Once again, very happy for you and your success.

• 1:03:35Speaker 03

Oh, thank you so much. I'm a huge fan of all of you, and I'm really gratefully happy to have you on. Thank you.

• 1:03:39Sean Hayes?

  Thank you, honey.

• 1:03:40Will Arnett?

  Bye, bye, bye, bye.

• 1:03:41Speaker 03

  Bye, bye, bye, bye.

• 1:03:42Jason Bateman?

  Bye.

• 1:03:45Jason Bateman?

What a nice... It was like a strawberry Wimbledon breakfast, you know?

• 1:03:50Will Arnett?

  Sure.

• 1:03:51Sean Hayes?

  What's a strawberry Wimbledon?

• 1:03:53Jason Bateman?

Wimbledon, I don't know what the creams is. It just feels so refreshing and European.

• 1:03:57Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:58Jason Bateman?

You know, first thing in the morning.

• 1:04:00Will Arnett?

  Yeah, it was really nice.

• 1:04:01Sean Hayes?

You know, people who are that joyful work a lot. I like that.

• 1:04:05Jason Bateman?

  You think that's the key?

• 1:04:07Sean Hayes?

Well, I think it's part of it, don't you think?

• 1:04:09Jason Bateman?

  Sure, exactly. People choose...

• 1:04:11Sean Hayes?

I mean, nobody wants to hire assholes.

• 1:04:12Jason Bateman?

No, exactly. This is what I keep telling you, Sean. Straighten out.

• 1:04:16Sean Hayes?

  Get in line.

• 1:04:17Will Arnett?

I mean, it's, yeah. She does work a lot. She's in so many different things and so many different types of roles. I forgot to tell you, she's in The Bear. She's also recurring. Yeah.

• 1:04:27Jason Bateman?

  No way.

• 1:04:28Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:29Jason Bateman?

What's she doing in that show?

• 1:04:30Will Arnett?

I don't know, man. She's poking the bear. I guess she pokes the bear.

• 1:04:34Sean Hayes?

Sounds like a dream. What about the, um, what about where she lives? Is she in the middle of the countryside in England? I mean, doesn't that sound amazing?

• 1:04:41Will Arnett?

You can just sort of see here, like, just kind of children laughing in the wind, just sort of...

• 1:04:46Jason Bateman?

  Little birds.

• 1:04:47Will Arnett?

Gentle breeze through the trees and the birds and stuff.

• 1:04:50Jason Bateman?

Ice clattering against the side of the glass.

• 1:04:53Will Arnett?

  Large gin and tonic.

• 1:04:54Sean Hayes?

Yeah, with a, with a, something grilling on the thing outside and friends over, maybe some mafia late in the night.

• 1:05:03Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:04Jason Bateman?

Is he trying to get closer to a body?

• 1:05:06Will Arnett?

  You know, I don't know.

• 1:05:08Sean Hayes?

What did Rob just said? What does that word mean?

• 1:05:12Jason Bateman?

But he's pitching a bi here.

• 1:05:15Will Arnett?

Rob Armjarv is trying to pitch a bi.

• 1:05:19Jason Bateman?

  Alcoholic, bicololic?

• 1:05:20Will Arnett?

No, it's like bucolic, but bicolic.

• 1:05:23Jason Bateman?

Bucolic out there in the country.

• 1:05:26Sean Hayes?

What does that even mean, bucolic?

• 1:05:27Jason Bateman?

  Bucolic is sort of country.

• 1:05:29Will Arnett?

  Leafy and tree.

• 1:05:30Jason Bateman?

  Outdoors.

• 1:05:32Will Arnett?

It's a pretty good one. I actually think it's nice.

• 1:05:33Jason Bateman?

But it's bu and not bi.

• 1:05:35Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:35Jason Bateman?

I'll tell you what would be good, if you could somehow work in the word combined into something like that. You could really lean on the bi section.

• 1:05:41Will Arnett?

Right, if you took the two, but then you were saying, you put two, right.

• 1:05:45Jason Bateman?

So, oh, I know. She's an actress that can do comedy and drama, so I don't know.

• 1:05:51Sean Hayes?

What if she found the perfect role where you?

• 1:05:54Jason Bateman?

  Oh, what?

• 1:05:55Will Arnett?

Oh, she took the two things and she was able to?

• 1:05:58Jason Bateman?

  Oh.

• 1:05:59Will Arnett?

  Come bi.

• 1:06:00Sean Hayes?

Wow, you guys. Yes. Come bi colic.

• 1:06:33Sean Hayes?
