I hear so many small business owners say the exact same thing. They just never have enough time in the day. Well, I measure time differently. I've compressed, condensed, heck, I've bent time. My first day is 6:00 a.m. to noon. My second day starts at noon and goes till 6:00 p.m. And my third day, 6:00 p.m. to midnight. I now get 21 days a week. Stack that up over a month, over a year, over five years, and my life's completely different than it would have been otherwise. And if you want to win as an entrepreneur, you have to compress your time, too. And you definitely can't afford to waste it. Waiting weeks on a big bank for capital? Your best bet's to work with my friends at Cardiff. They know how to compress time for entrepreneurs. They get your business approved in minutes and funded the very same day. They're America's favorite small business lender, and for good reason.

Welcome to the Ed Mylett Show, the place for winning. Here he is.

• 1:47Ed Mylett?

Welcome back to Max Out with Ed Mylett. To my left here is Dave Meltzer. Welcome, brother.

• 1:52David Meltzer?

I talk about brother, you are a brother from another mother. I can't believe the similarities. I hope it's interesting to other people.

• 1:57Ed Mylett?

I know, we think it's interesting, but hopefully, hopefully it's interesting for all of you. Dave's the CEO of Sports One Marketing. He's also one of the great philanthropists in the country. And he's an interesting man, and that's why this conversation today, I think, can alter your life too. Because he's a sports agent, but he also does all these other things. He's been successful in the real estate space, in the technology space. He's now in sort of the life strategy and coaching space as well. But when I first started to read about you, I thought, I'm gonna meet this sports agent guy. He's gonna be intense, he's gonna be kind of a grinder, you know? And I found out it was almost like I'm meeting the Wayne Dyer of sports agents. You know, I'm this very zen, very energy-based guy like I am. And so, we share a whole lot in common. So today's conversation, I think you're gonna love, everybody. So let's start out a little bit about you, though.

• 2:41Ed Mylett?

You end up doing really well right out of college, right?

• 2:44David Meltzer?

  At a law school.

• 2:45Ed Mylett?

At a law school. So you went to Tulane Law School.

• 2:47David Meltzer?

  Yes, sir.

• 2:48Ed Mylett?

And you graduate there, and within nine months, tell them what happens to you. Because I want you all to hear the ups and downs of real-life business and real life from one of the most successful people in the country. So what happens at a law school?

• 2:59David Meltzer?

So out of law school, I have two choices for jobs. And it's a recession. One was to be a real lawyer, oil and gas litigator, you know, big money. All I wanted to do is be rich, is why I went to law school. And then the second was to work in the internet. And I got offered a job to sell legal research online by West Publishing. Big, big legal publisher. And so I go to my mom, because you'll appreciate this. I go to my mom, hey, what should I do, mom? My big advisor, you know, I grew up with a single mom, six kids. And she, without blinking, is like, you need to be a real lawyer. Because this internet thing is a fad. So she calls the internet a fad, and I always say, because I like to teach lessons. Biggest lesson of my life was just because somebody loves you, doesn't mean they give you good advice.

• 3:42David Meltzer?

And I see so many people, entrepreneurs, in relationships. They ask for advice from people that don't know anything. My mom's a second-grade teacher.

• 3:50Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 3:51David Meltzer?

What does she know about technology?

• 3:52Ed Mylett?

Beautiful soul, but not a technology expert.

• 3:53David Meltzer?

No, and if I would have followed, it would, I think, slowed down, or, you know, at least not allowed me to have the acceleration. So I took the technology job.

• 4:03Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 4:03David Meltzer?

Uh, you know, single, money hungry.

• 4:06Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 4:06David Meltzer?

In a sales job in the internet.

• 4:08Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 4:08David Meltzer?

And I made a fortune nine months into it. I had three goals when I went to law school. If I could only pay back my law loans.

• 4:15Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 4:15David Meltzer?

  Buy my mom a home.

• 4:17Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 4:17David Meltzer?

And buy my mom a car.

• 4:18Ed Mylett?

So mom, even though she gave you the advice the other way, was the driving force behind most of the beginning of it though?

• 4:22David Meltzer?

Oh, I choke up still. I got mommy issues.

• 4:26David Meltzer?

And I was so proud of myself because I still had a little bit left over.

• 4:29Ed Mylett?

  You do.

• 4:29David Meltzer?

  Oh, you'll see.

• 4:30Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 4:30David Meltzer?

Uh, but I bought myself a big screen TV.

• 4:34Ed Mylett?

That was, that was a big thing you did for you.

• 4:35David Meltzer?

  And nine months.

• 4:36Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 4:36David Meltzer?

And I, I saved every penny. I had a $25 per diem. I bought peanut butter and jelly to take on the road with me so I can get the extra $175 a week.

• 4:46Ed Mylett?

As you're accumulating a million dollars in savings over that time. Did you save a million bucks the first nine months?

• 4:50David Meltzer?

Oh, I saved more, more. I saved almost every penny because the company, I traveled so much.

• 4:54Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 4:55David Meltzer?

I got it for a car, house, everything they paid for. I was in hotel rooms, I had corporate suites in Indiana.

• 5:01Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 5:02David Meltzer?

And so it was a perfect job for me because it was a full expense account. My laundry was paid for.

• 5:06Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 5:06David Meltzer?

  My food.

• 5:07Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 5:07David Meltzer?

And I still, I wore for three years, embarrassing enough, I wore the same pair of socks. Not because I couldn't afford new ones, but I somehow in my sports mind.

• 5:17Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 5:18David Meltzer?

I, I thought they were lucky.

• 5:19Ed Mylett?

  Your lucky socks.

• 5:20David Meltzer?

And I was like in the east coast and my shoe had a hole in the bottom and the sock. And I finally, and I was a, a very wealthy young man at that time, more than a million dollars.

• 5:30Ed Mylett?

  Okay, okay.

• 5:31David Meltzer?

And I'm wearing holes in my sock and shoes in the snow.

• 5:34Ed Mylett?

That's true. I think, I, by the way, I had the hole in the shoe thing going. I did the same thing. I saved every dollar. Mine didn't replace my shoes, not because they were lucky. I was being cheap. I was trying to save every buck. But I gotta tell you, this is lesson one, just to start the interview, there's more dreams stolen from people who love you than by people who don't love you. Just the advice we take or the people that talk us out of it. Because we take advice from people we love in areas where they're not competent, right?

• 5:55David Meltzer?

  Exactly.

• 5:56Ed Mylett?

I'd take advice from your mom on how to love somebody. That'd be great advice, right?

• 5:59David Meltzer?

Yeah, how to teach a young man.

• 6:01Ed Mylett?

So be very careful, just because you love them or they love you of thinking they have some expertise in an area that you don't, right? They probably don't. And so oftentimes we take advice. And the wrong person derails our dreams. So that's lesson one.

• 6:13David Meltzer?

  One more thing, too.

• 6:14Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 6:14David Meltzer?

We end up resenting them, which is worse. So all the people that love us most, we end up resenting them because they gave us bad advice. And meanwhile, we should be accountable because we asked a second grade teacher for internet advice.

• 6:25Ed Mylett?

  Hmm.

• 6:26David Meltzer?

It's in, that's the worst part.

• 6:27Ed Mylett?

That's really true. So what happens after that? You do really well. So you've, you've become more of a millionaire, a multimillionaire early in life.

• 6:34David Meltzer?

  Branded myself in technology.

• 6:35Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 6:36David Meltzer?

Which I thought was a brave maneuver because I was so insecure about people knowing I was still a lawyer. My mom made me take the bar, for example.

• 6:43Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 6:44David Meltzer?

She didn't think the internet was gonna last. So I took the bar, I passed it, and I kept the ESQ on my business cards all the time. And people was like, oh, you're a lawyer? And I still had this ego. Meanwhile, I was making so much more than all my lawyer friends.

• 6:56Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 6:57David Meltzer?

And so I had to let that go. And one of the biggest transitions was the first time I found my own frequency. I started branding myself as an internet guru.

• 7:05Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 7:06David Meltzer?

Right? And so we ended up selling West Publishing for 3.4 billion dollars to Thomson Reuters. And I was smart enough at that time. I heavily branded myself as the guy in the internet.

• 7:16Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 7:17David Meltzer?

So they paid me a ton to stay on. I had some stock.

• 7:19Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 7:20David Meltzer?

And so I stayed on to Thomson Reuters.

• 7:21Ed Mylett?

How old are you right about that?

• 7:22David Meltzer?

  Uh, 27.

• 7:23Ed Mylett?

  That's incredible.

• 7:24David Meltzer?

Yeah. So I was the youngest executive at Thomson Reuters.

• 7:27Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 7:27David Meltzer?

Then the internet boom really happened. We got into the late, mid to late 90s now. And the internet boom happens. Accenture, which was Anderson Consulting, did a merger. So they hired me to run a Silicon Valley as a director for EveryPath, a wireless proxy server company. Transcoding internet onto WAP phones.

• 7:45Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 7:45David Meltzer?

And now I just became a Silicon Valley kid in my twenties, but I really was hungry to learn how the money worked. So I was the front guy. I'd go into HP Ventures, Emmerendo, Texas Pacific Group, Sequoia.

• 7:59Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 7:59David Meltzer?

And I build these relationships. I'm real good at quickly getting to somebody.

• 8:03Ed Mylett?

  You connect. You connect.

• 8:04David Meltzer?

Yeah. And I learned that money side of it.

• 8:06Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 8:06David Meltzer?

And getting those relationships was really key because Samsung wanted to get in the phone division.

• 8:12Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 8:13David Meltzer?

And they ended up, it was chic to have a young CEO.

• 8:16Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 8:16David Meltzer?

And I was good at raising money. And they put me in this position. Uh, we had the world's first smartphone.

• 8:21Ed Mylett?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 8:22David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 8:23Ed Mylett?

Did you, are you, are you catching this, everybody? Who's involved in the world's smart?

• 8:26David Meltzer?

I'm like Forrest Gump of business, I think.

• 8:28Ed Mylett?

You are. Well, you manifested a lot of this stuff, right? I mean, that's unreal.

• 8:31David Meltzer?

  Subconsciously.

• 8:32Ed Mylett?

Unbelievable. Did you have the, um... Did you have this energy then? So I know you're, you say you're a little bit more ego driven then though, right?

• 8:38David Meltzer?

Yeah, so I had a very high energy.

• 8:40Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 8:40David Meltzer?

Uh, you know, just born, born that way. I didn't sleep a lot.

• 8:43Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 8:43David Meltzer?

A hyperactive, but I was always in my own way. What was told to me was I carried an energy of being stupid. Now, I need to explain that to people. That you can think and say and do certain things and believe certain things. But if you carry an energy that's different, it doesn't matter what you're trying to manifest. And let me give you an example. There's a lot of people that date the same person again and again and again. Or they have the same business problem again and again and again.

• 9:10Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 9:10David Meltzer?

  Same obstacles.

• 9:11Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 9:11David Meltzer?

No matter what they do, you seem to, what, why, why is this always happening to me? It's because you carry an energy.

• 9:17Ed Mylett?

  I agree with that.

• 9:17David Meltzer?

So what I analyzed and, you know, I went to India and kind of learned this stuff about myself. Is number one, my siblings were all hyper intelligent students. They all went to the Ivy Leagues. So I kind of had a tip on my shoulder that I didn't go to Harvard, Penn or Columbia.

• 9:31Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 9:31David Meltzer?

My siblings were much more academic.

• 9:33Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 9:33David Meltzer?

So I had that going. Then when I was little, I was hyper and they were good students. My grandma, who my mom was a teacher, would take us after school. Was this wise old kind of Yoda type of character.

• 9:44Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 9:44David Meltzer?

And she would always say to me, I go, Grandma, I'm bored.

• 9:47Ed Mylett?

  You're bored.

• 9:48David Meltzer?

  I don't want to study.

• 9:49Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 9:49David Meltzer?

She goes, only stupid people get bored. Smart people think things to do. Well, this changed my cellular memory.

• 9:56Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 9:56David Meltzer?

My neural pathways and into my code.

• 9:58Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 9:59David Meltzer?

My DNA. So my energy shifted. What did that mean though? That means I projected my insecurity about being stupid.

• 10:05Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 10:05David Meltzer?

Made me an ego driven guy.

• 10:07Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 10:08David Meltzer?

Who then surrounded himself with the wrong people.

• 10:11Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 10:12David Meltzer?

I used to be the smartest, I made sure I was the smartest guy in the room.

• 10:14Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 10:15David Meltzer?

Now, if I'm the smartest guy in the room, I'm in the wrong room.

• 10:17Ed Mylett?

You're in the wrong room. So you, I'm curious, because I 100% acknowledge, agree with all of that. You said you were a really money motivated young, right? Was that because you grew up with none of it? I'm just curious, would you grow up poor?

• 10:27David Meltzer?

It would make me cry, man.

• 10:28Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 10:29David Meltzer?

So I think we're similar. I grew up with a single mom and six kids, five boys and a girl.

• 10:33Ed Mylett?

So your mother raised six kids, most of which go to the Ivy League and the other one turns out to be you.

• 10:37David Meltzer?

  All went to Ivy League.

• 10:38Ed Mylett?

And then you turn out to be this unbelievable business.

• 10:40David Meltzer?

But we all got scholarships to college.

• 10:42Ed Mylett?

  Unreal.

• 10:42David Meltzer?

Yeah, she was amazing catalyst and, but what, for the time I remember, my parents got divorced. I grew up happy though. My mom created this great happy environment, but when I wasn't happy, it's because I'd catch her. I'm gonna choke up, but the car break down, I see her crying, right? Like honestly, or the dishwasher would break, or we couldn't go to summer camp. I remember one time I really wanted to go to baseball camp.

• 11:06Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 11:07David Meltzer?

And I leave and I turn around to say something and I saw my mom crying.

• 11:11Ed Mylett?

  Oh.

• 11:11David Meltzer?

So I said to myself, oh, if I could be rich, I could buy my mom a house, buy my mom a car, give her enough money so that she has all these options, then she would be happy.

• 11:22Ed Mylett?

Wow. And forty something years later, it still impacts you right now, brother?

• 11:26David Meltzer?

Yeah, I work through that all the time.

• 11:28Ed Mylett?

  That's amazing, man.

• 11:29David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 11:30Ed Mylett?

  That's, that's, wow.

• 11:31David Meltzer?

And it hurt me too, because I created this weird relationship with my mom when I had a lot of money, because I felt so responsible for her and I enabled my own mom.

• 11:40Ed Mylett?

  Okay, I can see that.

• 11:41David Meltzer?

You know, I bought her house, I bought her a car. And constantly our relationship became about what she could.

• 11:46Ed Mylett?

Do for you, what you could do for her, rather.

• 11:48David Meltzer?

Yeah. And we shifted that, but it's an extraordinary thing. I have some energy healers and things that I know.

• 11:54Ed Mylett?

  No.

• 11:55David Meltzer?

It's cool people, but I go, someone should come up with their business, some of these energy healers, and just say, I specialize in mommy issues.

• 12:01Ed Mylett?

So you end up becoming part of the first flipping smartphone on top of the first business venture. So then how do you end up going from all of that into, you get into the real estate business? You get into, somehow you end up in the sports agent business or marketing business too, right?

• 12:15David Meltzer?

Yeah, so I've always believed in overlap or vertebrae approach to life.

• 12:19Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 12:19David Meltzer?

That you have, the legs feed the lion, so make sure what you do well and you make your money at, that you take care of, and then see what else you can do vertebraing off from that. So real estate was something because I had extra cash.

• 12:31Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 12:31David Meltzer?

And I came up with this philosophy of buying one property a year. 15 year mortgages, after 15 years, in the 16th year, I'd refinance it tax free for about 200 grand each.

• 12:41Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 12:41David Meltzer?

So I'd always, you know, so I was so young, by the time I was 40, I was guaranteed 200 grand or more tax free.

• 12:47Ed Mylett?

  Can I just interject?

• 12:48David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 12:48Ed Mylett?

I almost did the identical thing. It's like our generation, we're right. It was, it was, uh, it was on all the infomercials. So that's what I learned to do, right? That was the whole process. So keep going, but I did the same exact thing.

• 12:56David Meltzer?

Well, what happened was I was so successful at real estate, even when I was working in technology and, you know, at Samsung, that my properties, you know, here in California,

• 13:05Ed Mylett?

  Sure.

• 13:05David Meltzer?

  shot up.

• 13:06Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 13:06David Meltzer?

So I started learning about refinancing.

• 13:08Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 13:09David Meltzer?

  And leveraging.

• 13:09Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 13:10David Meltzer?

So I was leveraging into some really cool, I had a ski mountain, uh, put 12 million into a golf course and it ended up being, we got Samsung to design it.

• 13:18Ed Mylett?

  Unbelievable.

• 13:18David Meltzer?

Ended up being the number one new course, uh, eighth best in the nation.

• 13:21Ed Mylett?

With the real estate development all around it too, right?

• 13:23David Meltzer?

  2,500 acres.

• 13:24Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 13:25David Meltzer?

  Uh, I was crazy.

• 13:26Ed Mylett?

  That's awesome.

• 13:26David Meltzer?

Well, anyway, by the time, uh, Samsung outgrew me, I used to tell people, my ego, I used to say, I semi-retired, I left.

• 13:34Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 13:34David Meltzer?

No, they kicked my ass out. I, I clearly now that I'm old enough, remember,

• 13:38Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 13:38David Meltzer?

hey, man, you've outkicked your coverage. Here's some money and leave.

• 13:42Ed Mylett?

  Leave.

• 13:42David Meltzer?

I do have one more piece of advice. If anyone ever pays you to leave, take the money and leave.

• 13:47Ed Mylett?

  Leave.

• 13:47David Meltzer?

It's a lot easier. Someone's gonna pay you to leave, it beats them kicking you out with no money.

• 13:52Ed Mylett?

  It's 100% right. I agree with that.

• 13:53David Meltzer?

And so I dabbled in some stocks and technology, but I, I, you know, it took a lot of my time.

• 13:59Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 13:59David Meltzer?

And I, uh, I was on this road. I had so much money.

• 14:03Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 14:04David Meltzer?

I was married. I married my childhood, uh, sweetheart.

• 14:07Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 14:08David Meltzer?

And I had three daughters, young girls. We lived in Manchur, Santa Fe.

• 14:12Ed Mylett?

Yep. Beautiful area, by the way. Beautiful area.

• 14:14David Meltzer?

Great place. And I started to self-loathe, like I was, we built that house. I remember the first night I lied there. You may have this feeling. I, I just, I'm sensing it.

• 14:23Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 14:24David Meltzer?

When you build something like this, I lied there in the bed.

• 14:26Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 14:26David Meltzer?

  Coming from nothing.

• 14:27Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 14:28David Meltzer?

And for the first time in my life, I wasn't happy.

• 14:30Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 14:31David Meltzer?

  I was empty.

• 14:32Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 14:32David Meltzer?

  And I started buying stuff.

• 14:34Ed Mylett?

About 10 minutes before you got here today, isn't this unbelievable, my guys? About 10 minutes before you got here today, I just want you to know this, I had this exact conversation with my camera crew and my, my, my audio partners. This exact conversation, so yes, this is true.

• 14:45David Meltzer?

It's weird, right? And then I started buying things that didn't make me happy. More things, different things that make me happy.

• 14:52Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 14:52David Meltzer?

And then I surrounded myself with really wrong people. I started going to places I shouldn't go.

• 14:57Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 14:57David Meltzer?

I was drinking too much, gabbling into other things I shouldn't be doing. And my wife caught it immediately, she said, "You're not paying attention." And we had a lot of money.

• 15:05Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 15:06David Meltzer?

And my attitude, arrogance, was, she was spiritual, you know, she did all kinds of meditation and readings and I was like, "What do you know? I made all this." Like, literally, what are you complaining about? I have a Ferrari and a Porsche in the garage. You have a live-in nanny and you don't work.

• 15:21Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 15:21David Meltzer?

Right? You should see what my poor mom would do, right? Tears would go.

• 15:24Ed Mylett?

You can compare the two, yep.

• 15:25David Meltzer?

But sure enough, she came to me, I, I overheard her actually, she could see things dissipate. She said, I'm scared to her uncle, who knew me since I was ten, said, "Man, I, I don't think this is gonna last." And I'm terrified, and he said, I loved it. He goes, "You know, everything always goes that kid's way." He goes, "I can't wait to see what happens with his back against the wall."

• 15:47Ed Mylett?

  Really?

• 15:47David Meltzer?

And my wife approached me, said she wasn't happy, told me to take stock in who I was and what I wanted to become. Now, I adored her since I was in the fourth grade. I spent one night thinking about it, and the hardest part for people to understand is, when you have a lot of money, you don't go bankrupt and lose it in one night.

• 16:04Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 16:05David Meltzer?

  It took two years.

• 16:06Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 16:06David Meltzer?

So for me, the hardest part was, I changed before I started or actually lost everything.

• 16:12Ed Mylett?

  Gotcha, okay.

• 16:13David Meltzer?

  I was starting to change.

• 16:15Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 16:15David Meltzer?

I was in a lawsuit, my ego was in my way. But it was too late, and the hardest part was when I actually went bankrupt in 2009.

• 16:22Ed Mylett?

  Okay, you went BK.

• 16:23David Meltzer?

  BK.

• 16:24Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 16:24David Meltzer?

This, my bad behavior started in 2007.

• 16:27Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 16:27David Meltzer?

And BK in 2009, I had already met Lee Steinberg, I was running the most notable sports agency. I was meditating every day.

• 16:35Ed Mylett?

Okay, you had your act together.

• 16:36David Meltzer?

Yeah, I had my act together. But the- The weird thing was in that two years, my wife would get more and more scared because I was giving control to the universe.

• 16:44Ed Mylett?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 16:45David Meltzer?

Right? And here, she was very spiritual.

• 16:48Ed Mylett?

Yeah, but I tested. You went to the extreme.

• 16:50David Meltzer?

  Oh, yeah.

• 16:51Ed Mylett?

Exactly, yeah. From not being that way at all prior, right?

• 16:53David Meltzer?

At all. And I was in control and I think it gave her some security that I always was on top of everything. I was in control.

• 16:59Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 16:59David Meltzer?

And I'd answer her, she goes, "What are you gonna do?" I go, "It'll unravel."

• 17:03Ed Mylett?

  You just knew.

• 17:03David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 17:04Ed Mylett?

You just knew. So, let's talk about how that turnaround happened. So, it ends up kinda going BK.

• 17:08David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 17:08Ed Mylett?

Real estate market takes a dump, can't get your hands on some leverage anymore. So, you're gonna have to be in that process. But you'd already been remaking yourself, already changing.

• 17:16David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 17:16Ed Mylett?

Let's talk about some of those key things for people that are... There's a lot of people that are watching this, like, "Hey, I need to remake." Right? I'm in that point. I gotta reboot. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta shift some things. I need to take personal inventory. Both of you and I are meditators. Both you and I are people that really believe in energy. And so, let's talk about just some of those key things that have worked for you, if you don't mind doing it, okay?

• 17:34David Meltzer?

  Absolutely.

• 17:35Ed Mylett?

Talk a little bit about meditation, just that one topic alone, how that's impacted you and what you do with it.

• 17:39David Meltzer?

For me, meditation's about, believe it or not, vibration.

• 17:42Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 17:42David Meltzer?

  Everything vibrates.

• 17:43Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 17:44David Meltzer?

Table, then plants, animals, you know, humans, light, sound, and then thought.

• 17:49Ed Mylett?

  Mm-hmm.

• 17:50David Meltzer?

Do you know what thought vibrates the fastest? The truth.

• 17:53Ed Mylett?

  The truth.

• 17:54David Meltzer?

The truth vibrates the fastest. And so, someone taught me, if I could teach you to meditate, to increase your vibration, so that you can live closer to your truth. Meaning, you can only be aware of that which vibrates equal to or less than you. So, I'm gonna teach you through meditation to vibrate faster.

• 18:12Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 18:12David Meltzer?

And so, I learned theta meditation.

• 18:14Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 18:14David Meltzer?

Uh, the other key component of meditation that I found, and people like you and I that are reactive, we're go-getters, is that I would waste so much ener... energy reacting, and I ran into a martial art... Master Shaw, who gave me this. He's also a martial arts expert and master.

• 18:31Ed Mylett?

  Good.

• 18:31David Meltzer?

And he could take, you know, all these guys around us, and they could all attack him at once. And I'm like, "How do you react so quickly?" He says, "Oh, no, I don't react quickly. I go back to center quickly."

• 18:42Ed Mylett?

  That's good.

• 18:43David Meltzer?

So, and that's what meditation truly does for me, beyond the vibration, is every morning... I have a center spot. So if something takes me off of that spot for the first 20 minutes a day.

• 18:53Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 18:54David Meltzer?

I don't worry about this. I worry about going back to here. And then this becomes an illusion.

• 18:59Ed Mylett?

  Oh, I love that.

• 19:00David Meltzer?

  Because when you're at peace.

• 19:01Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 19:01David Meltzer?

All distractions, attacking thoughts, void, shortages, obstacles are just illusions.

• 19:06Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 19:06David Meltzer?

We live in the will of the universe. I live in the favor.

• 19:10Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 19:10David Meltzer?

  Of the universe.

• 19:11Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 19:11David Meltzer?

And when I'm off-center, I'm not in the favor of the universe anymore. So all I concentrate on. And now, do I do that 100% of the time? No, you call my wife, my employees. I just do it more and more.

• 19:22Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 19:22David Meltzer?

Every single week, month, and year.

• 19:24Ed Mylett?

I want to stay on that for a second because a lot of times people that watch this too, don't even really know what meditation means. They think, oh, does that conflict with my religion? It doesn't at all. Meditation has, it's not a religion. It's a way of, it's a way of emptying your mind to begin with, by the way. But you should, you should learn about meditation regardless of what your religious beliefs are, in my opinion, okay? I don't think it impacts your religion one way or the other. But you talk about those energies and I heard you talking about one time about there's like three types of energies people live in. Do you remember talking about that?

• 19:52David Meltzer?

  Of course.

• 19:52Ed Mylett?

And this is, this has a lot to do, I think, with how you turn things around and this energy that you described. What are those three types of energy?

• 19:58David Meltzer?

So the first type of energy is the world of not enough.

• 20:02Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 20:03David Meltzer?

And I've met so many people, even that have a lot. And these are like the billionaires that commit suicide. They live in a world of not enough. And so all you do is keep attracting not enough.

• 20:12Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 20:13David Meltzer?

Then there's the world of just enough. And I feel really frustrated for these people because no matter how hard they work, no matter what good intentions they have, they always live in a world of just enough. I just have enough, I just have enough. And then there's the greatest world of abundance, more than enough.

• 20:30Ed Mylett?

  More than enough.

• 20:31David Meltzer?

And when you live more than enough, you give freely.

• 20:34Ed Mylett?

  You're right.

• 20:34David Meltzer?

  And you receive freely.

• 20:35Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 20:36David Meltzer?

Most people don't have a problem giving. Most people have a problem receiving. And it is a shift and I think a conflict in most people's mind. And I'll tell you how I know it. You and I both get the blessing of speaking in front of thousands of people. I love to ask this question. Who here likes to give? Everyone innately, they can't even hold their hand down. Everyone raises their hand.

• 20:56Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 20:56David Meltzer?

Then I ask real quickly, who here likes to receive? You get this energy.

• 21:00Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 21:01David Meltzer?

Some people won't even raise their hand.

• 21:03Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 21:03David Meltzer?

But even the people that do, there's this hesitation which shows you energetically, they have a problem with either not feeling worthy or not trusting the universe. They feel like, God, if I receive, I'm somehow cheating.

• 21:15Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 21:15David Meltzer?

Right, I'm not, there's this weird energy.

• 21:17Ed Mylett?

  You're right.

• 21:18David Meltzer?

So I help people a lot of times with living in a world of more than enough.

• 21:21Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 21:22David Meltzer?

That you actually, it's okay to receive because it creates the flow. You're emptying someone else's vessel.

• 21:27Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 21:28David Meltzer?

  Right?

• 21:28Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 21:28David Meltzer?

The way that you, by giving, should empty yours.

• 21:30Ed Mylett?

Yeah, I so believe that. That's this impediment in people's lives. They're unwilling to receive the great gifts of life to themselves. And you talk a lot about, I love this too, about outcome. So in that same vein, as we go down here, people get confused by this with me all the time. I talk all the time about having goals. I think it's great to have goals, but I've been the most successful in my life where I've separated my addiction to the outcome. I was so addicted to outcomes all the time. And what it did is it tightened me. It frustrated me. It stressed me. It put undue pressure on me. So talk a little bit about how, I think people think, once I get somewhere, then I'll be happy. Once I get this big beach house, then I'll be happy. Once I get a boat, once I, and I can tell you, there are plenty of people that I live by

• 22:13Ed Mylett?

right here that have these beach houses that still aren't happy, by the way. And I also have a whole bunch of people who don't have beach houses, who live very blissfully. So I talk a lot about living in what I call like blissful dissatisfaction. What I mean by that is, you can be dissatisfied and want more in your life, but there's no correlation with that with not being able to live happily and blissfully now. In other words, my bliss isn't attached to an outcome in my life, right? Can you talk about that from your perspective? So I think of anyone I've heard discuss this in the business space, because remember, this is someone who's on multiple occasions brought lots of abundance and wealth into his life over and over. Not just abundance, but created it for a lot of other athletes, a lot of other people around him, a lot of business partners. So he understands this principle. It's something you really need to listen to right here. So talk about that for a second.

• 22:57David Meltzer?

This is a critical point because we're goal-oriented people.

• 23:00Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 23:01David Meltzer?

Right, we play sports, you know, it's all about winning.

• 23:03Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 23:04David Meltzer?

And so what I used to do is I'd attach, once I graduate high school, I'll be happy.

• 23:07Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 23:08David Meltzer?

I get a scholarship to college. I graduate all these and every time it occurred, I still was in the same state of mind.

• 23:13Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 23:14David Meltzer?

What I learned to do was detach the happiness, this bliss.

• 23:17Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 23:18David Meltzer?

From the outcome. Now, the difference is, most people get concerned like, well, how can you be motivated without an outcome? No, no, no. I have outcomes and I pray every morning. This is a truly abundant thing. My first prayer every morning is, may God put in front of me 10 people that I can help.

• 23:33Ed Mylett?

That you could help, that you could help.

• 23:35David Meltzer?

That I can help. And I've shifted the paradigm of value, understanding outcomes and happiness. So I used to, and maybe you'll understand this, I'm a great salesman.

• 23:44Ed Mylett?

  You are.

• 23:44David Meltzer?

I can oversell, back end sell and lie to you. I can cheat to you. I've done it when I was in my twenties. I would shade the truth. You know, I sold stuff.

• 23:53Ed Mylett?

  Sure.

• 23:53David Meltzer?

And it didn't make me feel good. And what happened was, I created a void for me to fill all the time. I'd make you promises and I'd live on this premise, I'm going to exceed everybody's expectations. That's my goal, right? From the start. First of all, talk about bullshit.

• 24:07Ed Mylett?

  Yes, right.

• 24:08David Meltzer?

How many times have you actually, in a business deal, exceeded the other party's expectation? Very rarely.

• 24:14Ed Mylett?

Very rarely, especially if you've set those expectations artificially high.

• 24:17David Meltzer?

  Which I did.

• 24:18Ed Mylett?

Right. The way you exceeded is by not setting them.

• 24:20David Meltzer?

Right, right. By not charging or selling it. And that's what I started doing.

• 24:23Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 24:24David Meltzer?

But what was cool was, I started with this prayer and then I said, what if I started the day with this energy that God put a whole bag of hundred dollar bills in front of me? And my job all day long was to trade hundred dollar bills for 20. So whatever I did was, I was going to provide value as a father, as a husband, as a business partner, as a partner, as a philanthropist. And just, you'll see, I ask everyone either unconditionally, how can I be of service?

• 24:48Ed Mylett?

You do. You said it to me the first time we spoke.

• 24:50David Meltzer?

How can, and how can I be of service? I mean it.

• 24:52Ed Mylett?

  Yeah, I know you do.

• 24:52David Meltzer?

And I, and I know that that's my biggest blessing. I'm, I'm not lazy. I wake up at 4 a.m. I work really hard for others.

• 25:00Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 25:00David Meltzer?

And, but I also, when I work hard for others, I have my intention, my focus on what I want.

• 25:05Ed Mylett?

Yep. Stay on that for a second. So the power of what you're talking about for me is the intention part. So why don't you talk about intention because the power of over promising and knowing you're lying when you say it? You've actually, you know your intentions weren't pure when you say it. There's a power to just knowing what your intent is. That give a hundred to take twenty dollar is an intention too. That I think gives you, I think it helps you, I want to get too technical to everybody, but it actually helps you vibrate at a faster and higher level. Talk a little bit about the power of that intention there.

• 25:30David Meltzer?

Yeah, well, taught by Wayne Dyer. I think you studied as well, doctor. So there's a field of intention. And I have a kind of steroid version of what I learned from Dr. Dyer. And I believe that intention needs to be consistent every day.

• 25:46Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 25:47David Meltzer?

Persistent without fail, without quit. And enjoyed for the pursuit of your potential, a higher vibration of the truth. Let me put this in a context. If, for example, I can give everyone a gift, say thank you is the best intention that you can have. It gives you perspective, makes your past awesome, your present better, and your future brighter. Two words, thank you. So I tell people, make an intention of yours to be grateful. If you get stopped at a life, say thank you because it probably, the universe is unraveling something and saving you. Not slowing you down.

• 26:16Ed Mylett?

  Oh, I love that.

• 26:16David Meltzer?

  Right?

• 26:17Ed Mylett?

  So I need that one.

• 26:18David Meltzer?

  It's awesome.

• 26:18Ed Mylett?

  Yeah, I love that.

• 26:19David Meltzer?

And so I live in this intention. Now, here's where you get, where people lose. Your body has cellular memory. Prove it. Your mind has neural pathways. And your DNA has a memory and an energy.

• 26:30Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 26:31David Meltzer?

That's your core energy. If you don't do something every day consistently, this is what happens. The power of intention has an accelerator of exponential results. Meaning, if I want to be grateful, I do it day one, it's X to the first power. Day two, X to the second, X to the third, X to the fourth. Now I go get wasted, stay out all night, and I'm an egotistic narcissist who didn't think of others. Now it's X to the zero power. I've now zeroed out those other days. Now I start over. What happens at the end of the month is I sit there and go, wow, I did this all month. This is the way the human mind works.

• 27:03Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 27:04David Meltzer?

And I'm like, why don't I get the results that Dave gets?

• 27:06Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 27:07David Meltzer?

Well, because you zeroed it out three nights.

• 27:09Ed Mylett?

  Yep, yep.

• 27:10David Meltzer?

And I'm getting to the thirty-first power.

• 27:12Ed Mylett?

  You're exactly right.

• 27:13David Meltzer?

And it's the same thing with people, they just, they're ninety-nine percenters. They don't realize how the body, mind, and soul works.

• 27:18Ed Mylett?

It exactly happens, by the way. The easiest place to see this is like with working out or diet. Right, those are two of the easiest plate, don't you agree with that?

• 27:26David Meltzer?

Well, and for me, I'm living proof because I work out X to the 31st power. I do not, I'm gonna have to leave here at a certain time because I go to Stark and they're gonna train me.

• 27:36Ed Mylett?

  There you go.

• 27:36David Meltzer?

And I had to drop my ego to realize I need a trainer.

• 27:39Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 27:39David Meltzer?

Because I was still stuck at 25.

• 27:41Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 27:41David Meltzer?

Doing chest drives back and by his legs and shoulders.

• 27:44Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 27:44David Meltzer?

Well, for me, I travel so much.

• 27:47Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 27:47David Meltzer?

  I zeroed myself out.

• 27:48Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 27:49David Meltzer?

Two days ago in New York.

• 27:50Ed Mylett?

  There you go, right?

• 27:50David Meltzer?

  And I know it.

• 27:51Ed Mylett?

  You know it.

• 27:51David Meltzer?

And when I don't, I will, I hold about 10 extra pounds right now.

• 27:55Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 27:55David Meltzer?

I'm good cardiovascular shape, but I'm carrying 10.

• 27:57Ed Mylett?

  Carrying it.

• 27:58David Meltzer?

But you know why? Because every month I'm zeroing myself out. Just two or three days. This is a- I'm watching my diet.

• 28:03Ed Mylett?

By the way, I love this, this is huge for people to get, it's like, because you meet people, they go, "I'm doing it all." I'm like, "No, you're not, you're missing the 1%, that 1%," I love what you said, "zeroes you back out."

• 28:12David Meltzer?

  It's a zero effect.

• 28:13Ed Mylett?

It's a zero factor, which also is important to know, that's why what you commit to doing needs to be something that's doable and consistent. People overpromise themselves, and the reason you lose self-confidence, I say all the time, is lack of self-confidence is the lack of keeping promises you make to yourself consistently, right? And it's because you overpromise yourself, just like you overpromise the sales deal.

• 28:31David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 28:32Ed Mylett?

  You're doing it to yourself.

• 28:33David Meltzer?

  Genius.

• 28:34Ed Mylett?

So you gotta do the 30, whatever the workout is, select that you can do, whatever the diet is, or the phone calls are, or the meetings are, it's gotta be something that moot stretches you, but that is actually doable, that you can do consistently, so you don't zero out. Love, love, love, love this.

• 28:46David Meltzer?

Yeah, and the advice that I had, it was given to me, when I went to the gym that I went to, because I wasn't getting results.

• 28:52Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 28:52David Meltzer?

Is they said, "We're not gonna give you anything to do that you won't do the rest of your life."

• 28:57Ed Mylett?

  Perfect.

• 28:57David Meltzer?

And it gave me shivers, I was like-

• 28:58Ed Mylett?

Perfect. It makes my life easy, brother.

• 29:00David Meltzer?

And when people tell you about these weird diets, don't you cringe?

• 29:03Ed Mylett?

I do, I'm like, "How are you gonna do that for the rest of your-" You're never gonna maintain that the rest of your life, or people ask me, "Hey, you're in really good shape," like, "What do you do, work out like 2 hours a day, 7 days a week?" No, I do something I could actually do forever, right? You're 100% right. The other thing people do, that I love that you talk about, I love this, by the way, I knew we were gonna have more stuff than I can get in than I want, and I wanna keep going. So, I love what you talk about, the other people think, people think often too, when it comes to working out, or business, or diet, I have to be world-class at it in the beginning, or I, I'm not, I'm not favored to do it in some way. You talk a lot about this, like crawl, walk, run- Run strategy, I say that correctly?

• 29:35David Meltzer?

  Correct.

• 29:36Ed Mylett?

  What is that?

• 29:36David Meltzer?

So, I believe that you need to crawl before you walk before you run. In other words, there's three things that determine, you know, this potential that you have. One, skills. So, how can you run if you don't have the skills to walk yet?

• 29:50Ed Mylett?

  Wow, that's good.

• 29:51David Meltzer?

Two is knowledge. How can you run if you don't have the proper knowledge? Which, most of it comes from either the internet, which is a type of mentorship, of modern day mentorship, or true mentorship.

• 30:02Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 30:02David Meltzer?

Asking for help. You know, I, I just don't get people and, that don't go to someone, you know, and ask, "Hey, you're really good at real estate, Grant Cardone. Will you help me?"

• 30:14Ed Mylett?

Right. Why do you think people don't?

• 30:16David Meltzer?

Ego, for sure. That's why I didn't ask for help in my working out.

• 30:19Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 30:20David Meltzer?

My ego, I, I know what I'm doing. Right? And meanwhile, when I went to the experts in nutrition and training, and all, and, you know, diet and all this, I was, "Whoa! Why didn't I do this before?"

• 30:31Ed Mylett?

  Ego.

• 30:31David Meltzer?

And I love when people ask me to give them my dummy tax.

• 30:35Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 30:36David Meltzer?

Right? To me, I'm like, "I paid some serious dues. You might as well benefit from it."

• 30:40Ed Mylett?

Exactly right. That's, that's the point of your podcast and my podcast. It's like, learn from these dues that we've paid, right?

• 30:45David Meltzer?

  Right. The how to.

• 30:46Ed Mylett?

What's the, um, I love this. What's your, for me, this is for me, I call it like a triple A.

• 30:52David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 30:52Ed Mylett?

  What is that?

• 30:53David Meltzer?

So, it's crawl before you walk before you run leads into, to one thing. People, I was an action person.

• 30:59Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 30:59David Meltzer?

Right? I was like a bull in a china shop.

• 31:01Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 31:01David Meltzer?

I didn't think I was that intelligent or that talented.

• 31:05Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 31:05David Meltzer?

But I knew one thing. I was like the little burrow. I wasn't gonna quit and I could outwork you. And I can't tell you how many multimillionaires that I've met that subscribe to the philosophy of outworking you.

• 31:16Ed Mylett?

  Yep, yep.

• 31:17David Meltzer?

You know, and that comes from the no quit.

• 31:18Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 31:19David Meltzer?

Persistence is huge to have. But what I learned was, what if, it's where meditation came in. What if I took alignment first?

• 31:27Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 31:28David Meltzer?

Align with the universe, align with the information, be more interested than interesting, then took action. And where it really took note into my 30s and 40s was not only did I get alignment, one A, take action, two, but when I got alignment, I prepared for adjustment.

• 31:44Ed Mylett?

  Love that.

• 31:44David Meltzer?

  And that.

• 31:45Ed Mylett?

  I love that.

• 31:46David Meltzer?

Cause I never prepared for it.

• 31:47Ed Mylett?

  I love that.

• 31:48David Meltzer?

I was like a kid that, I'm gonna be a professional football player. What's your backup? I don't need one.

• 31:52Ed Mylett?

I love that. Now, let's talk, let's stay on, let's get in the real here. People that are watching this, we all have a lot of friends who are thinkers, meditators, prayers, and they don't ever produce results, right? And I think the reason for that is, cause there's, there's the workers, like, you know, I'll work everybody, which I subscribe to.

• 32:11David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 32:11Ed Mylett?

I know you do too. But having said that, I so agree with getting aligned first. But I think a lot of people, nah, that's puffery because, but this is important for you to know. A lot of these folks who kind of get aligned also leave out part B. Would you agree with that? Which is the work part?

• 32:24David Meltzer?

  I have the same, right?

• 32:25Ed Mylett?

It almost short changes the message.

• 32:26David Meltzer?

Yeah, I, I have the same, right? You're not gonna ever find me sitting at home high on my mom's couch.

• 32:31Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 32:31David Meltzer?

  Trying to manifest a Ferrari.

• 32:33Ed Mylett?

  Right, exactly.

• 32:34David Meltzer?

Right? That's not gonna happen with your airplane, right?

• 32:36Ed Mylett?

  Right, exactly.

• 32:36David Meltzer?

  That's not gonna happen.

• 32:37Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 32:37David Meltzer?

What, what I did learn is I will sit for 10 to 20 minutes.

• 32:41Ed Mylett?

  Hmm hmm.

• 32:42David Meltzer?

  And manifest.

• 32:43Ed Mylett?

  Hmm.

• 32:43David Meltzer?

  And then.

• 32:44Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 32:44David Meltzer?

Go out very clear, balanced and focused on what I want, which gives me confidence, which opens me up to receipt.

• 32:50Ed Mylett?

You, you just literally described what I do. I mean, I think we do the almost the exact same thing. The other thing we're both big into, wanna go through a couple like stuff.

• 32:56David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 32:57Ed Mylett?

Uh, we're both big into gratitude and the power of gratitude and how it can impact the rest of your life. Can you, can you speak to that a little bit about how gratitude plays into your whole life?

• 33:04David Meltzer?

It is the cornerstone of my life.

• 33:06Ed Mylett?

  Me too.

• 33:07David Meltzer?

  It gives me perspective.

• 33:08Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 33:08David Meltzer?

And I try to give gratitude to everything and everyone. And when I, and, and I tell you, like, I'm the guy who stops, and it's not about having money or not. I stop and give people who need it what they need out of gratitude.

• 33:22Ed Mylett?

It could be time. It could be a compliment.

• 33:23David Meltzer?

  Out of gratitude though.

• 33:25Ed Mylett?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:25David Meltzer?

And I open a door out of gratitude.

• 33:27Ed Mylett?

  Hmm.

• 33:27David Meltzer?

And I look at everything I have and I'm constantly fighting myself to make sure when things don't seem. As if I should be grateful, it freaks people out.

• 33:37Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 33:38David Meltzer?

But like, these two words, when someone's attacking you, realize that the mathematics of the universe, if someone's attacking you, if all you hold is gratitude, they can't attack you anymore. You can't allow them to take your joy. The energy, an attack has to have attacking energy. It'll dissipate when you have gratitude.

• 33:57Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 33:57David Meltzer?

If someone attacks you and you say, "Thank you."

• 34:00Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 34:00David Meltzer?

You know, "I really appreciate that." It takes all the energy out of the attack.

• 34:04Ed Mylett?

  So true.

• 34:04David Meltzer?

I had a good friend that was having difficulty with another friend and I ended up being on his podcast because Entrepreneur wanted me to do it.

• 34:11Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 34:11David Meltzer?

  And he started attacking me.

• 34:12Ed Mylett?

  On the show?

• 34:13David Meltzer?

No, called me right after. Personal attack to him. Disrespectful. You know, the ego.

• 34:18Ed Mylett?

  Okay, the ego.

• 34:19David Meltzer?

Need to be offended. And all I could say was, "You know what? I did not even think about that. Thank you. Thank you for teaching me how to be a better friend."

• 34:29Ed Mylett?

  And he's...

• 34:29David Meltzer?

You know, and I'm sure our relationship being that we're so close and it did hurt your feelings, it will definitely survive this.

• 34:36Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 34:36David Meltzer?

  But the old Dave Melcher.

• 34:37Ed Mylett?

We're going right back at him.

• 34:38David Meltzer?

  Or preach at him.

• 34:39Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 34:39David Meltzer?

And then I would have created this and lost a friend.

• 34:42Ed Mylett?

  Wow.

• 34:42David Meltzer?

I... It's like almost energetic judo or tai chi.

• 34:46Ed Mylett?

No, it is. Go away. Thank you. That is wonderful, man. I need to hear that, by the way. That's one for me, because I'm a big gratitude guy, but not to that extent.

• 34:53David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 34:53Ed Mylett?

That's a place I can learn it. You know, I think sometimes I... That's good for me. I bet it's good for a lot of you that are listening to this, too.

• 34:59David Meltzer?

It's funny, because I inspire and teach a lot of kids.

• 35:02Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 35:02David Meltzer?

And so if you go against gratitude, forgiveness, accountability, or effective communication, I use the Lombardi. It's in my system because I learned that way, kind of Lombardi football coach. And so now I'm trying to figure out, how do you take a grateful approach for someone not learning gratitude?

• 35:18Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 35:19David Meltzer?

"Thank you so much for not listening to me about... Thank you." It's not quite working yet.

• 35:23Ed Mylett?

But the principle applies, and you're absolutely right, because there's no... What I always do when I hear a theory, this is what I do when you should be listening to this podcast, everybody. I hear a theory and I put it through different situations that are real world, and does it apply? What you just said applies. There's not going to be a scenario where it doesn't apply.

• 35:36David Meltzer?

  That's how powerful it is.

• 35:37Ed Mylett?

It is powerful. It's super powerful. I'm curious. Talk about kids, and I read a little bit about you. You do a lot of work with kids. You alluded to that. And also in your kind of nonprofit charitable work you do too. What do you do, what is the organization you're involved with that helps with kids?

• 35:50David Meltzer?

Yeah, so I'm the chairman of the Unstoppable Foundation.

• 35:53Ed Mylett?

  That's what it is.

• 35:53David Meltzer?

With Cynthia Kersey founded 10 years ago.

• 35:56Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 35:56David Meltzer?

  On her 50th birthday.

• 35:57Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 35:58David Meltzer?

And took money instead of gifts to help kids in Africa and Kenya. So not only kids, but communities with water, education, financial literacy, medical care.

• 36:08Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 36:09David Meltzer?

And it's evolved. 75,000 people have been impacted. And so now, these girls who never would have been educated, mostly girls that never would have been educated.

• 36:17Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 36:17David Meltzer?

  Are graduating college.

• 36:18Ed Mylett?

  That's wonderful.

• 36:19David Meltzer?

So I turned 50 a month and a half ago.

• 36:22Ed Mylett?

  Happy birthday, Bleated.

• 36:23David Meltzer?

And I'm doing 50 birthday parties.

• 36:25Ed Mylett?

  I saw this.

• 36:26David Meltzer?

And for the 50, I'm gonna raise over a million, notice no limitation.

• 36:30Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 36:30David Meltzer?

Over a million as fast as I can in these 50 parties to build an empowerment and leadership center. To take all these people we impacted and teach them how to empower others.

• 36:40Ed Mylett?

  Wow, that's wonderful.

• 36:40David Meltzer?

  So it scales.

• 36:41Ed Mylett?

  That's, that is scaling.

• 36:43David Meltzer?

One thing people ask me, because I do, Warren Moon is my business partner. We have Crescent Moon Foundation. We've given hundreds of scholarships to kids that go to college. Which is still important to me here in America.

• 36:52Ed Mylett?

  Sure.

• 36:52David Meltzer?

Our high schools, they'll ask me, "Dave, there's a lot to do in America. Why are you doing this in Africa?"

• 36:57Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 36:57David Meltzer?

Watching what's going on in the world, that if we can stabilize some of these other places, it only benefits all of us.

• 37:04Ed Mylett?

  That's wonderful work, brother.

• 37:05David Meltzer?

  So it's really fun.

• 37:06Ed Mylett?

Now, what I want you all to know about him that's really interesting, because you're gonna learn this lesson in your business too. These principles, remember, this is a guy who attracts to him some of the top athletes in the world that he represents, right? And other agents will be talking about, "Let's negotiate the shoe contract, right? Let's, let's, you know, get the percentage done. Let's get you guaranteed this." And I know that's part of what you do, but he takes this very unique approach, right? And the approach is almost, you begin to talk to the athletes about their giving first and what they could do with their giving and their time. Speak to that for a second, which makes you so unique, this is what I want you to hear. So unique in the space you're in, because the sports world can be very cutthroat. The dollar now, short term, short term, short term. You run a model that's different than that and a message. And again, I apply it through anything. These same principles apply if you own a dry cleaners. If you own a gym.

• 37:51Ed Mylett?

If you have a, you know, you run a life insurance business. Whatever the heck your business is, this principle he's about to share with you would distinguish you, make you happier and probably grow your business as a byproduct. It's not the reason to do it, but it would as a byproduct would grow your business. So, talk about that.

• 38:06David Meltzer?

And to give credit, I learned it from Lee Steinberg. He was a Berkeley guy. Jerry Maguire. Co-produced with Cameron Crowe, the famous. And he taught me. I said, "Why do you require every one of our athletes to have a foundation?" He said, "For two reasons. One, I know it's right." And the truth vibrates the fastest. Didn't put it in those words, but that's what he was saying. And then he said, "But beyond that," he goes, "I started learning that by giving back, I actually qualified the people I surrounded myself with." If an athlete wasn't willing to give back, I was only gonna have problems later on. And so, throughout my whole career, since I've been working with Lee, whether it's athletes, companies, media, or even interviews, I only do people that, work with people that will give back.

• 38:49David Meltzer?

Every project I have has to have a charitable component or cause to it. Every single one. Or we won't take it. And it just has really increased a collective belief or a vibration for our entire community, not just our business.

• 39:02Ed Mylett?

Don't you think it's important, I heard you talk about this and we both said this separate of each other, but the reason there's also power to that, by the way, it's wonderful seeds you're sowing, right? The other part of it is, like, I think it's important in business that you show up different than people expect you to.

• 39:16David Meltzer?

  Yeah.

• 39:16Ed Mylett?

You know, I've seen you talk about that, I talk about that all the time too. Like, in my case, you know, if I'm got some big arms and I got tattoos on there and I show up as this guy that's talking about loving people and blissful dissatisfaction and making a difference, we're like, "Wait a minute, I thought you were gonna talk about smashing people in the face." You know? I think that's been an advantage of mine that maybe I'm not as I appear, right? And is that true also? Would you give that advice to somebody in business or even just in life?

• 39:38David Meltzer?

Absolutely. You have to take advantage. And I even take charity. And you know, my motto is, "Make a lot of money, help a lot of people, and have a lot of fun." And a lot of people ask me, "Why do you say make a lot of money, Dave? You're this philanthropist." I mean pissed, but I do pimp out a lot of athletes and celebrities for money. So I call myself a philanthropist. But why do you do that? I said, because literally if you don't have, you can't give.

• 40:02Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 40:02David Meltzer?

I say that about forgiveness. If you don't forgive yourself, who can you ever forgive?

• 40:06Ed Mylett?

  That's right, baby.

• 40:07David Meltzer?

And so I say to everyone, make money for yourself first. You'll figure out where to put it.

• 40:12Ed Mylett?

  Yep.

• 40:12David Meltzer?

You're not, my mom is a great catalyst. Siblings did extremely well.

• 40:15Ed Mylett?

  Sure.

• 40:16David Meltzer?

But my mom has to still be supported by her kids today. It takes away from her own pride.

• 40:21Ed Mylett?

  There you go, of course.

• 40:22David Meltzer?

Right, and because she never cared about making money herself.

• 40:25Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 40:26David Meltzer?

And I really believe it's really important, if you have the skills and knowledge and desire, that you should make as much money as you can.

• 40:32Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 40:33David Meltzer?

And take care of everyone around you.

• 40:35Ed Mylett?

I believe that so much. And the point is too, is that what Dave's sharing with you is you can't transfer to somebody that which you're not experiencing yourself. You can't give me love if you don't feel it. You can't give me gratitude. You can't give me energy. You can't give me confidence. You can't give me money. You can't give me these things if you're not experiencing them yourself. So, one of the things you can tell from us talking is this man's interesting and he's compelling and he's different. And so I, I find myself gravitating to your content myself when I'm alone because it, it educates me, but it intrigues me, it challenges me, it makes me think differently. In this space, we're both sort of in a little bit. There's a lot of repeating sort of the same things, the same audience over and over. And I told you this off camera. I enjoy you because it's different and unique and it's, I think what I would call it is

• 41:20Ed Mylett?

it's an elevated message. It's an elevated message. How do they find these messages from you? So let them know how to find you because I, for many of you, it's the first time in my audience, you may have seen Dave. Most of you know him, but if you don't, how do you find him?

• 41:33David Meltzer?

No, most don't know me, let's be honest, right?

• 41:34Ed Mylett?

  How do they find him?

• 41:34David Meltzer?

And that's good because there's 3.2 billion people on the internet.

• 41:38Ed Mylett?

  On the internet.

• 41:38David Meltzer?

  And most don't know us.

• 41:39Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 41:39David Meltzer?

And I'm really interested in how you do find out what we're teaching and share it with your friends.

• 41:44Ed Mylett?

  Sure.

• 41:44David Meltzer?

So @DavidMelzer is the best place.

• 41:46Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 41:47David Meltzer?

Instagram, I do have dave Meltzer dot com.

• 41:49Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 41:50David Meltzer?

Truth is, there's two Dave Melzers. David Meltzer, you Google, you're gonna find everything on me.

• 41:55Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 41:56David Meltzer?

Dave Meltzer, half on me, half on the World Wrestling Federation guys.

• 41:59Ed Mylett?

  Is that right?

• 42:00David Meltzer?

Yeah, yeah. He's a sports reporter.

• 42:02Ed Mylett?

  Okay.

• 42:02David Meltzer?

One of my favorite things is when I get reporters like they want me on XM radio and they start talking about Stone Cold Steve Austin.

• 42:09Ed Mylett?

  Oh, that's so awesome.

• 42:10David Meltzer?

And Bradley freaks out, my publicist, he's like, wrong interview.

• 42:13Ed Mylett?

  You got the wrong guy.

• 42:13David Meltzer?

Yeah, one time he did a whole special on it.

• 42:16Ed Mylett?

  That's awesome.

• 42:16David Meltzer?

  It was terrible.

• 42:17Ed Mylett?

And I want you all to, I want you to find the right guy because I think he can help you. He helps me. I know that he can help you. So last question for you. This is just flown by me. I knew it would. Like I have about 21 more things on here, right?

• 42:28David Meltzer?

We'll do it again, off camera.

• 42:29Ed Mylett?

No, I want to do it again on camera too because I know people that are watching like, hey, have him back, right? Like there's more. But like, what do you, what do you want to focus on? The next five or 10 years, you have your, and I know there's some ambiguity to it, of course, but like, you've got your sports agency, you've got your philanthropic work, right? You've got this space you're now, which his podcast is awesome, by the way. So what are you focused on? What are kind of your ambitions the next five years of your life? Do you have, I know you don't have a specific window on it, but in that.

• 42:54David Meltzer?

It's generally content. So I bought a media company and I have a TV show called Elevator Pitch, which is Shark Tank was soul mentoring young entrepreneurs. But I, I want to truly keep my frequency. That thing that you talk about elevating.

• 43:08Ed Mylett?

  Yes.

• 43:08David Meltzer?

So I believe elevate others to elevate yourself. And so I want to create through just my normal life, really cool content that empowers people.

• 43:18Ed Mylett?

  Love it.

• 43:18David Meltzer?

And not just motivates, but inspires. Motivation is short term, right?

• 43:22Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 43:22David Meltzer?

It'll get you that 99%, but if someone's inspired, they're going to look like you.

• 43:26Ed Mylett?

  Yeah, that's right, right, right.

• 43:27David Meltzer?

  Exactly. You're an inspired guy.

• 43:29Ed Mylett?

  That's right.

• 43:29David Meltzer?

That's what I want to be able to people say, man, the tears in their eyes, thank you so much. You changed my life. Even one of those that I get, it makes like my whole life.

• 43:38Ed Mylett?

Yeah, you know, if anybody who sat across from me, because you're the most, you're congruent. Like what you say is who you are.

• 43:45David Meltzer?

  Now, now.

• 43:46Ed Mylett?

  Now.

• 43:46David Meltzer?

Right? Because I used to be the guy.

• 43:48Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 43:48David Meltzer?

I, I say now, hate me for who I am, love me for who I'm not. I mean, love me for who I am, hate me for who I'm not. I used to want everyone to love me.

• 43:55Ed Mylett?

  Me too.

• 43:56David Meltzer?

So there was no congruency in my life at all. I was a chameleon.

• 43:59Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 43:59David Meltzer?

  And I was weak.

• 44:00Ed Mylett?

  Yeah.

• 44:00David Meltzer?

And I was ego driven and everyone admired someone that didn't exist.

• 44:04Ed Mylett?

Didn't even exist with some character.

• 44:05David Meltzer?

  Now I'm an illuminator.

• 44:06Ed Mylett?

  Right.

• 44:06David Meltzer?

Like I'm the guy that lost all my money. I've had some serious problems, but I know how to live my life and I'm continuing to get better.

• 44:12Ed Mylett?

Yeah, you are, brother, and you helped me today. Like, I've got my own notes that I took down in the interview, but I really loved this. This is Dave Meltzer, everybody. I want you to find him on social media. I want you to engage with his content. I really thank you, brother, so much, man.

• 44:24David Meltzer?

  Thank you much more.

Such a good conversation. All I ask of you, you know this, everybody, both he and I do our podcasts, our programs, for free. We just want to serve the world and make a difference. All I ask in return, if you wouldn't mind, is whatever platform you watch this on, make a comment, give us a little like, or make a review, most importantly, so it moves up the rankings and people in these other countries we've discussed today get access to this wonderful content they wouldn't get otherwise. So, give it a review. God bless you, everybody. Max out.
