• 0:03Jessie Ware?

Hello and welcome to Table manners. I'm Jessie Lurk and we're recording this on the hottest day of the year. It's a scorcher.

• 0:10Speaker 01

  Scorchio.

• 0:11Jessie Ware?

So you may hear or see a fan rotating and lifting Lenny's hair up every so often. Forgive us. Alice, producer Alice will do her best to get it out there. But listen, we've got to have some help in here. My kids are off school by one o'clock.

• 0:30Speaker 01

  Quite right.

• 0:32Jessie Ware?

Speaking of kids, have I talked about the fact that my daughter's enrolled me into the school concert where parents have to get involved? She's put me down for cello.

• 0:40Speaker 01

  You can't play the cello.

• 0:41Jessie Ware?

I played the cello when I was 11.

• 0:43Speaker 01

I know darling, and you didn't get a scholarship on the basis of your cello play.

• 0:47Jessie Ware?

No, I bloody didn't because I'm not very good. But the teacher thought that it would be very special because she's on strings. I said, can't I be in the choir? She said, Emily's mum sings. I went, I'm a singer babe. And she went, Emily's mum sings.

• 0:58Speaker 01

  Who said that? The teacher?

• 0:59Jessie Ware?

  No, my daughter.

• 1:01Speaker 01

  Well, can't you?

• 1:02Jessie Ware?

No, I'm on cello and I'm going to have to cut these falsies off.

• 1:05Speaker 01

  Yeah. And open your legs.

• 1:09Jessie Ware?

  Yep. That went really south.

• 1:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12Jessie Ware?

Also, I just tried to make cold brew at my house.

• 1:16Speaker 01

  What's cold brew?

• 1:17Jessie Ware?

Cold brew is like, what I now understand, intense coffee. So I was like, God, this is delicious. It's like a, you know, a nice latte. I think I've actually ingested about the equivalent of 10 espressos.

• 1:29Speaker 01

I think I can feel that, the acidity in this room.

• 1:32Jessie Ware?

  I'm freaking out, Len.

• 1:33Speaker 01

  You're talking a lot, darling.

• 1:34Jessie Ware?

I'm gurning, I'm freaking out. I've got heart palpitations and I've taken it. I'm worried about this guest coming on. Who have we got?

• 1:42Speaker 01

Oh, we've got someone really fabulous.

• 1:44Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 1:45Speaker 01

  She is absolutely gorgeous.

• 1:47Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 1:48Speaker 01

She's modelled, she's acted, and she sings.

• 1:52Jessie Ware?

This is her third album, I think. It's called Love Land.

• 1:55Speaker 01

  It's wonderful album.

• 1:57Jessie Ware?

  She's very sexy.

• 1:58Speaker 01

Very sexy. She's got a great voice.

• 2:01Jessie Ware?

And she's got a song called Tiny Raisin that I need to understand why it's called Tiny Raisin. Because I think it's about Robert Pattinson.

• 2:08Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 2:09Jessie Ware?

We knew this was going to be a scorcher. So Lenny, what have you made today?

• 2:12Speaker 01

I've made a chicken and manga and soba noodle.

• 2:18Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 2:19Speaker 01

  Salad.

• 2:20Jessie Ware?

  Whose recipe?

• 2:21Speaker 01

It's a New York Times recipe.

• 2:23Jessie Ware?

  Who's the chef?

• 2:24Speaker 01

  I don't know. She have a look.

• 2:26Jessie Ware?

  Check them, yeah.

• 2:26Speaker 01

  Shall I just make it?

• 2:27Jessie Ware?

  Show some respect.

• 2:28Speaker 01

  Think it's someone called Susan.

• 2:30Jessie Ware?

  Susan.

• 2:30Speaker 01

That it might not be. Hold on, I'll check.

• 2:32Jessie Ware?

How do you stop like a coffee hitting so hard?

• 2:36Speaker 01

  Susan Spungen.

• 2:38Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 2:39Speaker 01

And it's chicken and mango sober salad with peanut dressing.

• 2:43Jessie Ware?

Have you made your sober noodles already?

• 2:44Speaker 01

  Everything's done.

• 2:45Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 2:46Speaker 01

It's still in the fridge. It's all in the fridge cold.

• 2:50Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 2:50Speaker 01

And I'll put it together at the last minute. Do we want bread rolls? Because I can put them in the air fryer. Do you think anyone will need a bread roll?

• 2:58Jessie Ware?

I may need one to soak up this caffeine.

• 3:00Speaker 01

And then for, and I'm just putting a little green salad on the side in case anyone needs it. And then I've made a gooseberry tart.

• 3:09Jessie Ware?

  Ooh.

• 3:09Speaker 01

Goosegogs. Do you call them goosegogs?

• 3:11Jessie Ware?

  Sorry, what?

• 3:12Speaker 01

Goosegogs. That's what everyone always used to call them.

• 3:14Jessie Ware?

That sounds like a posh person.

• 3:16Speaker 01

  Goosegogs are.

• 3:17Jessie Ware?

If anyone heard that gooseberries are called goosegogs.

• 3:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:20Jessie Ware?

  Oh, David.

• 3:21Speaker 01

  Everyone called them goosegogs.

• 3:23Jessie Ware?

Where have you heard that? Your grandma?

• 3:26Speaker 01

  Everyone called them goosegogs.

• 3:27Jessie Ware?

  Was your grandmother posh?

• 3:29Speaker 01

  No.

• 3:29Jessie Ware?

  Oh, okay, fine.

• 3:30Speaker 01

  They were goosegogs.

• 3:31Jessie Ware?

  Sounds like.

• 3:31Speaker 01

  Anyway, gooseberries are.

• 3:33Jessie Ware?

He's in. Okay, I'm sorry. I got completely wrong.

• 3:35Speaker 01

Well, I've made a gooseberry tart.

• 3:37Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 3:38Speaker 01

Because gooseberries aren't around very long and they're in seeds, they're in seeds.

• 3:43Jessie Ware?

Thank God, those hairy furry things.

• 3:45Speaker 01

I have a hairy mine. Oh, well, do you not want my tart?

• 3:48Jessie Ware?

No, I'm sure the goosegogs are good.

• 3:49Speaker 01

I'm gonna serve it with fresh cream or crème fraîche.

• 3:52Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 3:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:54Jessie Ware?

She's here. Sokey Waterhouse, coming up on Table manners.

• 4:05Jessie Ware?

  Sokey Waterhouse.

• 4:06Speaker 02

  Hello.

• 4:06Jessie Ware?

  Looking glowy, gorgeous, quite cool.

• 4:08Speaker 02

So do you, actually. We all look glowy because.

• 4:11Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, I mean, maybe sweat.

• 4:13Speaker 02

  Overglowed.

• 4:14Jessie Ware?

Because we're on the hottest day so far of the year, I think.

• 4:17Speaker 01

I think of the century. I think it's gonna be the hottest day in June ever.

• 4:21Jessie Ware?

Brits really like a stat in the summer, don't they?

• 4:24Speaker 02

I'm obsessed. Since I've been back in England the last few months, I'm obsessed with the weather app. I'm watching BBC News. Last night I was watching the roundup of the weather. I get obsessed about it when I come back here.

• 4:34Jessie Ware?

Is it because you look, you kind of are consumed by stressing out about it? Or is it just kind of the intrigue of like where, where, what strappy dress am I gonna wear today?

• 4:44Speaker 02

The intrigue. I really love talking about the weather.

• 4:46Speaker 01

Do you? That's because you're British.

• 4:49Jessie Ware?

But do you think, because are you based in New York or LA?

• 4:52Speaker 02

I'm sort of like, I'm sort of floating around. I'm a bit of, we're a bit floaty. Depending on filming schedules and tour and all that kind of stuff. But now I'm back here for quite a long time and going on tour. But we're sort of based here for the end of the year.

• 5:07Jessie Ware?

When do you go on tour?

• 5:08Speaker 02

  Next week.

• 5:09Jessie Ware?

Oh my god. You're going on tour ahead of the album being out?

• 5:14Speaker 02

No, so I'm actually, well, I'm going out there, starting rehearsals, doing a bit of promo. And then July 27th, I'll be on tour. So it's funny, this time with the album, I've made the album and I'm kind of immediately going on tour, like two weeks after doing the record. Do you do that?

• 5:29Jessie Ware?

I'm going on tour in October. So no, I haven't done it so close. But that's, I mean, this is your third album. Congratulations, love man.

• 5:37Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 5:37Jessie Ware?

  It's very sexy.

• 5:38Speaker 02

  Do you think?

• 5:39Jessie Ware?

It's just like you. It's just like you. Can I remind you the first time we met? I don't know if you remember.

• 5:45Speaker 02

  Remind me.

• 5:46Jessie Ware?

We were at the Ephra pub in Brixton and you joined my friend.

• 5:51Speaker 01

  The Ephra?

• 5:52Jessie Ware?

  And you ordered a Baileys.

• 5:54Speaker 02

Oh, I do remember that. And I was so. It was probably the only time I had a Baileys.

• 5:58Jessie Ware?

Because I was like, who's this cute girl that's ordering a Baileys at the pub? And I remember it so well because I thought it was actually quite genius.

• 6:06Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't, I don't, I haven't drunk a Baileys since actually. I must have been trying. Oh no, wait, I was in a Baileys phase. I love Baileys. So for some reason.

• 6:14Speaker 01

  I'd still love it.

• 6:14Speaker 02

  I love Baileys so much.

• 6:16Jessie Ware?

Me too. I don't think it was even wintertime. So that's why I found it, because you know, we all have a Baileys at Christmas.

• 6:22Speaker 01

  Well, you have Baileys.

• 6:23Jessie Ware?

You were having one in like the summer and I'm like, who is this girl?

• 6:26Speaker 01

See, we have Baileys with ice. Don't you remember when we go to Augustus? Often we have Baileys with ice in the evening.

• 6:31Jessie Ware?

When I was underage, mum. And it was like you allowing me to have a drink whilst we watched Mamma Mia and then outdoor cinema.

• 6:37Speaker 02

It's like a little cappuccino. It's like milky, delicious. Do you guys like pina coladas?

• 6:42Jessie Ware?

I do. I haven't had one this year.

• 6:44Speaker 02

  That's so good though.

• 6:45Speaker 01

  Is that your favourite?

• 6:46Speaker 02

  Pina colada is pretty delicious.

• 6:48Speaker 01

  Oh, see, mine is Cosmo.

• 6:49Speaker 02

  Cosmo is great.

• 6:50Speaker 01

  My very best.

• 6:51Speaker 02

What's the one with egg? I went through a bit of.

• 6:53Jessie Ware?

  Pisco sour?

• 6:54Speaker 02

  Uh, Amaretto sour.

• 6:56Jessie Ware?

Oh, Amaretto sour. Does that have egg in it?

• 6:58Speaker 02

  Apparently, yeah.

• 7:00Jessie Ware?

That's you. I used to just get so pissed on that.

• 7:02Speaker 02

Me too. I used to, because they were really sugary. That was my drink of like going out.

• 7:05Speaker 01

  Do you like Negronis?

• 7:06Speaker 02

Yes. I'm really into Aperol sprits at the moment.

• 7:09Speaker 01

  Do you? Why?

• 7:11Speaker 02

I had a couple last night.

• 7:12Speaker 01

  Why do you like them?

• 7:13Speaker 02

Uh, just refreshing. I don't feel that hungover today. No, not at all.

• 7:17Jessie Ware?

  And they're not.

• 7:18Speaker 02

They go down really quickly. They go down really quickly. I watched, that's what I was drinking, watching the football last night.

• 7:23Speaker 01

When you have the Aperol sprits, do you put prosecco in as well as soda water?

• 7:28Speaker 02

  Yes, prosecco.

• 7:29Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 7:29Jessie Ware?

That's the only thing that puts me off it, because I don't like prosecco.

• 7:32Speaker 02

  I can't taste it.

• 7:33Jessie Ware?

But that's the, that's the thing.

• 7:34Speaker 02

I don't ever want to taste drinks. I really like a whiskey and Coke, but that's.

• 7:38Jessie Ware?

You sing about that in, that's, that's a lyric in the album. Which song is that on?

• 7:43Speaker 02

  Uh, Jukebox.

• 7:44Jessie Ware?

Jukebox, yes. So that is, what, what whiskey are you going for?

• 7:47Speaker 02

Um, anything, to be honest. I'm not, I don't, I'm not very good at making drinks. This is just stuff that I would order. But I just don't really want to taste the alcohol ever.

• 7:56Jessie Ware?

Can we talk about Tiny Raisin? Because I don't, I, I love that song.

• 8:00Speaker 01

You often know who's it about.

• 8:01Jessie Ware?

I think I know who it's about, but I need to know, is that your nickname? Or is it the?

• 8:05Speaker 02

No, no, no, it's for the, are you talking about the title?

• 8:08Jessie Ware?

Yes, I don't know about you. You don't mention Tiny Raisin in it.

• 8:11Speaker 02

  I do.

• 8:11Jessie Ware?

  Do you?

• 8:12Speaker 02

Yes, it's in like the second line. But I got myself into it. I don't know if you ever get yourself into a massive pickle about not only choosing the songs, but also what to name them.

• 8:22Jessie Ware?

  Yes.

• 8:23Speaker 02

And so I, that song really should be called That's My Man, because that's the, that's really the course. But I have this other song called Any Man. And then, you know, I'm naming everything, trying to decide what's going on the album. And I just get in a huge pickle. I'm like, I'm not having That's My Man and Any Man. That's too many things about men. That's too similar.

• 8:42Jessie Ware?

  Babe, I'm, I'm with you.

• 8:43Speaker 02

And then I start getting myself.

• 8:44Jessie Ware?

So it was Tiny Raisin instead.

• 8:45Speaker 02

So the lyric at the beginning is, I've been lying in the bathtub till I'm a tiny raisin.

• 8:50Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 8:50Speaker 01

Oh, it's not about someone's tiny raisin.

• 8:53Jessie Ware?

No, no, it's actually a very generous song.

• 8:56Speaker 01

  Okay, sorry.

• 8:57Jessie Ware?

There's a beautiful line about a kid watching, you've got my kid in your arms.

• 9:00Speaker 02

You sound like someone very close to me who said, that's what it sounds like. And I, then it, so I should have just called it That's My Man.

• 9:07Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 9:08Speaker 02

Now, then I called it Tiny Raisin. Then it sounds like I'm talking about someone's tiny.

• 9:13Speaker 02

  It's just an absolute nightmare.

• 9:15Jessie Ware?

It's a Gemma song. Can we just say it's a Gemma song?

• 9:18Speaker 02

It's also a love song. It's like a chaotic love song.

• 9:21Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, it's beautiful.

• 9:21Speaker 02

It's not, you know, it's, yeah. So then it sounds like it's, you know, some kind of toxic and like some kind of stat- no, oh no. But yeah, so that got me into a right old pickle. But basically, I thought Tiny Raisin would be a good title because it's sort of, it's what happens to you when you're in the bath for too long. And you're kind of, you, you, you, you know, you've been there for, I guess my reasoning behind it, I've been there for hours. I'm like, where's my, where's my dinner reservation? Where's the champagne? Where's the flowers? You know, where's my loving?

• 9:52Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, yeah. It's, it's a great song.

• 9:54Speaker 02

But everyone's completely confused by it and I've, oh yeah.

• 9:57Jessie Ware?

But it's a talking point. There you go.

• 9:59Speaker 02

  There we go.

• 9:59Jessie Ware?

And it is a great song, so.

• 10:01Speaker 02

I actually, I'm getting into this thing with people. It's like, some people are like, oh, I hate raisins by themselves, or they have to be chocolate covered. Do you guys like raisin?

• 10:08Speaker 01

  I love raisins.

• 10:09Jessie Ware?

Me too. I love chocolate coloured. All your promos are going to be raisin.

• 10:12Speaker 01

The ones in M and S, chocolate covered raisins.

• 10:14Jessie Ware?

Imagine having a chocolate covered raisin today, though. It's going to be like just everywhere.

• 10:19Speaker 02

I think I started talking about it because I was talking to a friend about Alpin and someone's saying, you know, Alpin, the cereal.

• 10:25Jessie Ware?

  I love Alpin.

• 10:26Speaker 02

Love Alpin so much. And someone was saying, oh, in our family, everyone used to eat the raisins and take, you know, take their raisins out if you didn't like them. Or, you know, it would be like, some people love them, some people didn't. We would always fight about the raisins. Everyone wanted the raisins. And then I would pick all of them out and that would be it. Everyone would get in an argument about that in our family.

• 10:45Jessie Ware?

I, for Alpin, it's the creaminess that comes out of it. It's like you've got formula milk in there.

• 10:51Speaker 01

You know why? There's dried milking.

• 10:52Jessie Ware?

Yeah, it's like formula. It's so good.

• 10:54Speaker 01

So delicious. Can you get it in Los Angeles?

• 10:56Speaker 02

Uh, I haven't tried actually. It's been such an English thing.

• 11:00Speaker 01

I'm not sure you can get it in state.

• 11:01Speaker 02

Yeah, maybe not actually. That would be something that I might need to try.

• 11:03Speaker 01

Well, everything's gluten free and milk free and everything free, I think, there, so.

• 11:07Speaker 02

Or it's like really just bad stuff.

• 11:10Speaker 01

Yes, either really bad or madly good, yeah.

• 11:14Jessie Ware?

So you grew up West London?

• 11:16Speaker 02

I did. I was born in the Queen Charlotte's Hospital, which is the same one that you were born in.

• 11:20Jessie Ware?

Oh my god, if we were, if you were.

• 11:22Speaker 02

I wicced. I was wicking you on the way over.

• 11:24Jessie Ware?

Funny that they put that as your thing in a Wikipedia.

• 11:27Speaker 01

Actually, I weren't born in Queen Charlotte.

• 11:29Jessie Ware?

  Oh, wasn't I?

• 11:29Speaker 01

Born in West London Hospital, which is now.

• 11:32Jessie Ware?

Why have they put me down then?

• 11:33Speaker 01

Because it was on the edge of near Hammersmith Roundabout. It was a little place where they did modified La Boyer birth.

• 11:41Jessie Ware?

  What does that mean?

• 11:42Speaker 01

It meant that you didn't have any pain relief, you had music in the background.

• 11:46Jessie Ware?

You had all the pain relief.

• 11:47Speaker 01

I had everything. I'd say, give me the lot.

• 11:49Jessie Ware?

  So that was a pointless.

• 11:50Speaker 01

Yeah, it was a pointless place and it.

• 11:52Jessie Ware?

But no, I'm sure it was brilliant for many birthing people, but no.

• 11:56Speaker 01

It was pointless for me because I didn't have a modified La Boyer birth.

• 12:00Jessie Ware?

  Um, La Boyer, I've never.

• 12:01Speaker 01

La Boyer was a Frenchman and he wanted dark lights and you have music in the background.

• 12:06Speaker 02

It's so funny that you took the chronic piss out of me for wanting quite natural, going for quite a natural,

• 12:15Jessie Ware?

holistic approach to birthing. You were like, oh, the god, you did exactly the same.

• 12:20Speaker 01

  But darling, I wasn't a trooper like you. And I didn't have a water.

• 12:26Jessie Ware?

  Nobody gets an award for.

• 12:27Speaker 01

And I didn't have someone doing chakras over me like you did.

• 12:31Jessie Ware?

  Anyway.

• 12:32Speaker 02

You sound exactly like my mum about everything and you also. A sim, I was looking at your Wikipedia and you also kind of, you're quite similar to my mum. You've done quite similar things.

• 12:43Speaker 01

  Yeah, your mum's a psych.

• 12:44Speaker 02

Work and psychotherapy and doing court cases.

• 12:47Speaker 01

Where was she a social worker?

• 12:49Speaker 02

Uh, she did, she was working at Place To Be, a charity.

• 12:54Speaker 01

  Oh, I think it's a wonderful charity.

• 12:56Speaker 02

Yeah, it's a great place and then.

• 12:57Speaker 01

  Fantastic.

• 12:58Speaker 02

Yeah, doing stuff in the courts and representing.

• 13:00Speaker 01

Yeah, Place To Be is such a great charity.

• 13:03Jessie Ware?

So, so can you set the scene of, um, who was around the dinner table and what were you eating in your childhood a lot?

• 13:12Speaker 02

Okay, so I'm one of four and the oldest of four.

• 13:15Jessie Ware?

  I've met your two sisters.

• 13:17Speaker 02

  Who are heaven.

• 13:17Jessie Ware?

Oh, heaven, you're so lovely to each other.

• 13:20Speaker 02

I love my sisters so much and I also have a brother. So the, the younger ones are twins.

• 13:25Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 13:25Speaker 02

Um, they're twenty seven, Maddie and Charlie.

• 13:28Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 13:29Speaker 02

Yeah, Charlie's a social worker too, actually.

• 13:31Speaker 01

Is that a girl or a boy?

• 13:32Speaker 02

  Boy.

• 13:33Speaker 01

  A boy?

• 13:33Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 13:34Speaker 01

  Where's he a social?

• 13:35Speaker 02

He works in Feltonham for the, for the council, which is really, really tough.

• 13:40Speaker 01

  Must be tough.

• 13:40Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 13:41Speaker 01

  Felton's a really tough area.

• 13:42Speaker 02

Really, really tough. Yeah. So my brother's, my brother's amazing and he's been doing that. Yeah, sort of since he was a teenager. And then my sister, yeah, sister Maddie. So there's four of us, dad and mum. So quite a, quite a big family. How many, the three of you?

• 13:59Jessie Ware?

Three of us, yeah. So what were you eating?

• 14:01Speaker 02

Uh, we were eating cauliflower and cheese.

• 14:04Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 14:05Speaker 02

  With baked beans.

• 14:06Jessie Ware?

  Sounds delicious.

• 14:07Speaker 02

It's amazing. That was like one of the big.

• 14:09Jessie Ware?

Would you have that not just on a roast today?

• 14:12Speaker 02

No, I think my mum would just cauliflower and cheese, cauliflower and cheese in the oven. We were having lots of stews. My mum's really big on stews, chicken broth, um, yeah, things that she could do for a long, you know, put on.

• 14:25Jessie Ware?

  Was she working always?

• 14:26Speaker 02

Yeah, she was. Uh, my mum was in, so my mum was a cancer nurse. And then, uh, then she stopped doing that when she had twins. And then she stopped for quite a few years and then she went back to doing.

• 14:39Jessie Ware?

Is that how your parents met? Cause your dad's a doctor?

• 14:41Speaker 02

Yeah, they met, they met in a hospital. And it's a funny story. My mum always, my mum's version of it is that they met over this man who had a decaying buttock. And my dad's version of the story is he kind of saw her on this ward and she was walking down the, the ward. And he said he was dating every nurse and, and, but my mum's like, no, we met.

• 15:03Jessie Ware?

Cause your dad's a plastic surgeon, so I guess he was sorting out the bum.

• 15:06Speaker 02

But he, well, no, no, because before you become a plastic surgeon, you have to do all these kinds of different, you have to be a surgeon. I think you have to do like heart surgery and you have to do a lot. You, I don't think you can just like go into, and it's cranial facial surgery. And, um, he has, yeah, he's done all, he, he sort of does a lot of things on, he was doing a lot of work on kids and facial deformities. He had a charity called Facing the World that he started like 25 years ago, which was, they would fly over kids from all around the world. And then some of them would stay with us for like nine months and they would do like, you know, 10 surgeries. He's, he's amazing. So he does, he does all the, you know, all the plastic surgery boobs, bums and face, but he does, he's always done like all this other stuff.

• 15:47Speaker 02

So for some reason, there was a decaying buttock and that's where my mum thinks I don't know where I'm going with the story. But regardless, they've been together for a long time and they're doing great.

• 15:59Jessie Ware?

  I, um, that's, I mean.

• 16:02Jessie Ware?

Did you never fancy going into?

• 16:04Speaker 02

I don't think it was ever an option.

• 16:06Jessie Ware?

  Really?

• 16:06Speaker 02

No, and I think, yeah, they were okay with that, but it was never, um, no, nothing about my grades, I guess, was ever screaming. She's gonna be a doctor. So I think, yeah, they, yeah, they didn't have that. They didn't kind of, my parents were pretty relaxed. I went to Ibsstock.

• 16:24Jessie Ware?

Oh, you went to Ibsstock Place? That must have been fun.

• 16:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's fun.

• 16:27Jessie Ware?

So cauliflower cheese and baked beans, because I guess your, your parents were working and they were, she, it sounds a bit like my mum, she'd always have something in the pressure cooker. And there'd always be something. But like, would you say your mum's a good cook?

• 16:40Speaker 02

She's, my dad, yeah, my mum is a great cook. Um, I think she, yeah, she was, she's fantastic. And she definitely, she's, look, I don't think it's something she, did she enjoy doing that? Every single night?

• 16:54Jessie Ware?

  Me too.

• 16:55Speaker 02

Oh my god, I can't even imagine it because when I think of having four kids and a husband coming home from work and that expectation to have dinner on the table every night while there's kids going on, homework going on. I mean, she just used to sometimes, we always laugh about it, but she would just sometimes just lose it and go and sit in the car. We'd be like waving at her through the window, but our house was quite chaotic, really, I think all families are, right? It was, it was chaotic. Especially in those years where they, when they, the twins were younger and it went from two of us to four of us. But yeah, so she, I, I don't think it was always like pleasurable to be cooking all the time for us. And now she really, my dad loves it.

• 17:37Speaker 02

And my dad's the kind of guy that's like, oh my god, this, look at this, taste this tomato, it's just exquisite. And he'll, he, he sort of has taken over now.

• 17:45Jessie Ware?

Oh, he like, has he retired?

• 17:47Speaker 02

No, he hasn't, but he'll, yeah, he'll still work, but he still works, but he, um, he's definitely, now they have a place in the countryside and we all go down there and it's, the kitchen's like really his place now.

• 17:57Jessie Ware?

  Are you a good cook?

• 17:58Speaker 02

  No.

• 18:00Jessie Ware?

  Just don't fancy it.

• 18:01Speaker 02

I do, I do fancy it, but. And I'm going to at some point. And there have been times, like, there have been times I got a country house two years ago for a couple of weeks. I really got into it.

• 18:13Jessie Ware?

Did you feel like you were like playing, cosplaying trad wife?

• 18:15Speaker 02

Yeah, and I just loved, I just loved it. I really fell in love with it. And you had the whole day to, to get into it and I got into recipes. So I can. I think I can, but I think that for some reason, that space and that time and thinking about it isn't in my.

• 18:32Speaker 01

The thing is, you've got to be, I think to, I mean, this podcast, we're preoccupied with food. We talk about recipes. We live and breathe food all the time. It takes over your life. Yeah, and thank God, you don't even have a car to in the States if you're there.

• 18:51Speaker 02

Oh, but you've got lots of other things.

• 18:52Speaker 01

  Have you?

• 18:53Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 18:53Speaker 01

  Do they deliver?

• 18:55Speaker 02

  Oh, within, within hours.

• 18:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, okay.

• 18:58Speaker 02

We've got Instacart, which is great.

• 19:00Speaker 01

  Oh, have you?

• 19:01Speaker 02

And then you've got something called Postmates, which is sort of like. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Postmates is great. And then you've got Uber Eats, but, but Instacart's quite incredible. You can even go all different, you can go to all different shops. And then say, bring this all to me in an hour. Yeah, I mean, America's got, it's got good.

• 19:16Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 19:17Jessie Ware?

So, so if we were coming around to yours.

• 19:19Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 19:21Speaker 01

  She's not gonna talk.

• 19:22Jessie Ware?

  Would you be cooking?

• 19:22Speaker 01

  She's ordering in.

• 19:23Jessie Ware?

Would you order in? And if so, where are you ordering in from?

• 19:27Speaker 02

I'd order in or, uh, where would we order in from if we're in, if we're in London?

• 19:35Speaker 02

I'm just thinking of what I did the other day. I like got, I got this really nice, like, sort of porridge muse. I'm thinking for breakfast.

• 19:44Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 19:45Speaker 01

  Are you ordering for breakfast?

• 19:46Speaker 02

No, I know, this is awful, isn't it?

• 19:48Jessie Ware?

You want us in and outs, okay?

• 19:50Speaker 01

  She'll just.

• 19:51Jessie Ware?

Maybe this is what I did the other day.

• 19:53Speaker 01

  Alpen and milk, okay?

• 19:54Speaker 02

I could Alpen, I could Alpen a milk. I could, okay, fine. Well, if I'm doing breakfast at home.

• 19:59Jessie Ware?

  Fine.

• 20:00Speaker 02

Yeah, if I'm doing breakfast at home, maybe I'll do some toast with banana and avocado. Cause I can kind of feed my, I think babies liking that, I'm enjoying that too.

• 20:09Jessie Ware?

  Banana and avocado.

• 20:10Speaker 02

  Yeah, mixed together.

• 20:12Jessie Ware?

  So you're giving us weaning.

• 20:13Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 20:14Speaker 02

Is that weaning? That is, we actually enjoying that on toast.

• 20:17Speaker 01

  Banana and avocado together.

• 20:19Speaker 02

It's quite nice though, yeah. Maybe some honey on bread.

• 20:21Jessie Ware?

  Thank you.

• 20:22Speaker 02

  I'm trying.

• 20:23Speaker 01

  Banana avocado and.

• 20:25Jessie Ware?

  It's really nice.

• 20:26Speaker 01

  Banana avocado and honey.

• 20:28Speaker 02

  Well, no, maybe, and banana.

• 20:29Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, banana.

• 20:30Speaker 02

  The honey stuff.

• 20:31Jessie Ware?

  Oh, thank you.

• 20:31Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm a big into honey. Um, if I'm probably gonna spoil you, I really like. I really like a jacket, I really like a jacket potato.

• 20:40Speaker 01

I love a jacket potato too.

• 20:41Speaker 02

I'm obsessed with jacket potato. Uh, I love tuna, sweet corn, mayonnaise.

• 20:46Jessie Ware?

  Delicious.

• 20:46Speaker 02

  Baked beans.

• 20:48Speaker 01

  Cold or hot?

• 20:49Speaker 02

  Hot.

• 20:49Speaker 01

Do you put cheese on your baked beans?

• 20:51Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, put cheese on underneath.

• 20:52Speaker 02

And if I, and to be honest, if sour cream and caviar at a restaurant on a jacket potato. I think it's so.

• 21:00Speaker 01

Don't they serve it like that? The tiny little potatoes with caviar and sour cream.

• 21:04Speaker 02

  Delicious. Mm, I love that.

• 21:06Jessie Ware?

Chick, they do it now too.

• 21:08Speaker 01

  Is everyone hungry?

• 21:09Speaker 02

  Yes, I'm hungry.

• 21:10Speaker 01

  I'll just start.

• 21:11Speaker 02

I forgot that we're gonna get food.

• 21:12Jessie Ware?

  Oh, yeah, babe.

• 21:14Speaker 01

  Go to eat.

• 21:15Jessie Ware?

  Yes, she is eating.

• 21:17Speaker 02

Oh, yeah. No, no, no, I forgot that that actually happened. I actually was, I was kind of was thinking like, maybe they don't do that anymore.

• 21:23Jessie Ware?

Oh my god, no. Oh god, whilst your stomach rumbles.

• 21:27Speaker 02

  I haven't, I haven't, I didn't eat my breakfast.

• 21:29Jessie Ware?

Oh babe. No, well, I'll let mum explain what we're having, but whilst mum gets the lunch ready.

• 21:35Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 21:35Jessie Ware?

We could start on your last supper.

• 21:38Speaker 02

  On my last supper?

• 21:38Jessie Ware?

Yeah, start at main pod, drink of choice.

• 21:42Speaker 02

Uh, drink of choice, um, I'm probably gonna have a Coca Cola, honestly.

• 21:48Jessie Ware?

  A Coca Cola?

• 21:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 21:50Jessie Ware?

Are you okay? Mexican lover Coca Cola.

• 21:52Speaker 02

  What are you having?

• 21:53Jessie Ware?

Glass bottle Coca Cola, nothing beats it.

• 21:54Speaker 02

Are you having glass of wine or something? Or are you having?

• 21:57Jessie Ware?

Oh, I'm having like many different things, like.

• 21:59Speaker 02

  Different drinks, yeah.

• 22:00Jessie Ware?

Yeah, like you can do whatever you like.

• 22:02Speaker 02

I do feel like Coca Cola just makes me feel at peace.

• 22:04Jessie Ware?

Do you like the Mexican cola?

• 22:05Speaker 02

No, I like the Mexican cola. I really like the full fat Coca.

• 22:08Jessie Ware?

  Full fat?

• 22:08Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't like diet Coke.

• 22:10Jessie Ware?

I do think that Coke Zero. Did pretty well to try and replicate it.

• 22:15Speaker 02

  No.

• 22:16Jessie Ware?

  Okay, fair enough.

• 22:16Speaker 02

I just don't feel it, no.

• 22:18Jessie Ware?

  Delicious.

• 22:19Speaker 02

  Really?

• 22:19Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, love.

• 22:20Speaker 02

  Coke Zero.

• 22:21Jessie Ware?

I know, I love Coke full. I actually really like direct Coke too.

• 22:24Speaker 02

  Okay, okay.

• 22:24Jessie Ware?

  I like them all.

• 22:25Speaker 02

  I hope, I wish I, I wish I could, because it's, it's, it's a crazy sugar addiction to have, but I do.

• 22:30Jessie Ware?

Do you have one a week?

• 22:32Speaker 02

Um, it depend, I think on tour it really kicks up.

• 22:36Jessie Ware?

  Oh, it's on your rider?

• 22:37Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It really kicks up on tour. It's just something to bring me to life.

• 22:41Jessie Ware?

What else do you have on your rider?

• 22:43Speaker 02

Um, I don't really, I probably have pita bread, like very simple foods.

• 22:48Jessie Ware?

  Okay, yeah.

• 22:49Speaker 02

I'm not trying to do anything that makes me feel dodgy before going on stage.

• 22:52Jessie Ware?

  Or like belchy.

• 22:53Speaker 02

Yeah, no belchy. In fact, that's always a mistake. Sometimes you go out for a drink or people are in town and maybe you'll be able to go out for a little drink before. And then you're just burping the whole time.

• 23:02Jessie Ware?

  Shocker.

• 23:03Speaker 02

So you've got to keep really, you've got to keep everything really clean, I think, not too much.

• 23:07Jessie Ware?

Before we go back to Last Supper, where are you starting your tour in the States?

• 23:11Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:12Jessie Ware?

Because you're quite massive in, I mean, your, your streaming numbers are insane.

• 23:17Speaker 02

  Oh, that's so sweet.

• 23:18Jessie Ware?

But like, you had this big viral moment with.

• 23:20Speaker 02

  Which was so strange.

• 23:21Jessie Ware?

  Good looking.

• 23:22Speaker 02

  Yeah, because that song was.

• 23:23Jessie Ware?

  How did that happen?

• 23:24Speaker 02

It was the weirdest story because that was, uh, that song I put out like nine years ago, completely independently, I whacked it up on DistroKid. I'd made it with, um, my friends Nat and Jules, who were the first people that I really started making music with. So I, I would put like one song out a year.

• 23:41Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 23:42Speaker 02

And, um, and yeah, and then, and then like nine years later. It's all like strange. It was very like synchronicity sort of moment because I'd, I'd got my record together during the pandemic.

• 23:54Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 23:55Speaker 02

Um, kind of like funded it myself.

• 23:57Jessie Ware?

  Yep.

• 23:58Speaker 02

Found a, found Sub Pop, the label that I put it out with. So that one, that record was just sort of, it wasn't out yet, but it was kind of just about to go out. And then suddenly this song that the label had actually asked me to take down, they'd asked me to take down all the old stuff. Because they wanted a fresh slate and no one really like cared for that song, to be honest, or any of that stuff. And then, um, and then as that record was coming out. Uh, the, the song suddenly.

• 24:25Jessie Ware?

  On TikTok?

• 24:26Speaker 02

  On TikTok.

• 24:27Jessie Ware?

  It's so mad.

• 24:27Speaker 02

With no, you know, it was like, it couldn't have been less of an interest for the people on that side of the business.

• 24:34Jessie Ware?

And what was the kind of viral, was there a dance with it? Was there something that everyone had to do or was, did it just get kind of passed around as a soundtrack to people doing stuff?

• 24:44Speaker 02

  It was.

• 24:44Jessie Ware?

  Was there a theme?

• 24:45Speaker 02

There, the theme was sort of.

• 24:50Speaker 02

Quite a lot of trauma, I think, like. No, but it, it can also, it's also, but it's also eleva, it's also kind of.

• 24:57Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 24:57Speaker 02

Um, euphoric at the same time, but I saw, yeah, it was, I don't think there was a dance, no.

• 25:02Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 25:03Speaker 02

It was sort of people, then, then it kind of reemerged recently and it was, people showing off their hair.

• 25:08Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 25:09Speaker 02

Um, but it's more, it's more just like screaming from the rooftops, um, like about that love of your life.

• 25:16Jessie Ware?

Do you, do you do TikTok?

• 25:19Speaker 02

  I do.

• 25:20Jessie Ware?

  Do you like it?

• 25:21Speaker 02

  Well, once I.

• 25:22Jessie Ware?

Are you in bed with it?

• 25:23Speaker 02

Well, once my song started blowing up, I was like.

• 25:25Jessie Ware?

You were like, hey, I can, uh, well, I get on to this.

• 25:28Speaker 02

I didn't know how it worked or anything, then I was kind of like, okay, that's good, go, let's start doing TikTok. So I am, yeah, I am on TikTok. Um, it's, you know, it's, it's not something that comes. Like, it, it, it's sort of something that I've like learnt and I, I really, look, it's fun when it's fun.

• 25:47Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 25:47Speaker 02

  Right?

• 25:47Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 25:48Speaker 02

When you're like trying to figure out, when it's like, the label's like, oh, you need to make TikToks and you're like, in your house with like no hair and makeup. In your sweats, trying to put your kid to bed and you've got a billion things to do, you're like, it's not happening.

• 26:02Jessie Ware?

It's not my priority right now.

• 26:03Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, content in, it's, it's hard, I find that sometimes I'm like.

• 26:07Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 26:08Speaker 02

You, you know, sometimes you're like, oh, I need something interesting to be going on and a lot of the time when I'm not working, it's like, it's not really happening.

• 26:15Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 26:15Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 26:15Jessie Ware?

  And I, and, and.

• 26:16Speaker 02

  You're not out doing something.

• 26:18Jessie Ware?

And actually just kind of parenting can, it's like, yeah, it's a distraction, this other thing, when actually you've got real life happening here, like.

• 26:26Speaker 02

Yeah. I do know, it's difficult sometimes to be.

• 26:28Jessie Ware?

  Totally.

• 26:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 26:29Jessie Ware?

How are you feeling about the album?

• 26:31Speaker 02

  I'm feeling good. I'm, I feel, um, I feel like there's a.

• 26:37Speaker 02

There's a sense of, yeah, the fact that it's coming out, I feel this relief, actually, that went for went about. I'm really excited for people, I'm excited for people to hear the whole thing, because choosing singles is difficult. I know. Isn't it? I know. And you're just like, well, you know, deciding which ones are going to be first and it, what, what gives you a sense of the whole album and how do people lead into it? I find all of that, like I, you know, that's why I end up calling things Tiny Raisin and stuff. I, I, I feel like I find all of that quite difficult.

• 27:06Jessie Ware?

Why did you call it Loveland? Because that comes quite low down on the order of the songs.

• 27:12Speaker 02

  On the order of songs.

• 27:13Jessie Ware?

Is there a line about Santa Fe in there?

• 27:15Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 27:16Jessie Ware?

Yeah, what happened in Santa Fe.

• 27:17Speaker 02

So that actually, that title came from this article that I read about Cormac McCarthy's kind of muse and she had like finally spoken out and she'd never really, she'd never really kind of like written anything or spoken about their relationship before. Her name's Augusta Britt and you know when you're just like completely taken by something that you read and there was a line.

• 27:39Jessie Ware?

  Oh, looks gorgeous, mum.

• 27:41Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 27:42Jessie Ware?

Oh, I could smell, oh, it's like gorge, mum. Perfect.

• 27:46Speaker 02

I'm just looking at home cooked food like.

• 27:50Speaker 02

  Amazing.

• 27:51Jessie Ware?

  Thank you, mum.

• 27:53Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 27:53Jessie Ware?

That's so American to have like bread rolls on the side.

• 27:56Speaker 02

  Yummy.

• 28:05Jessie Ware?

Mum, this looks delicious. What is it?

• 28:07Speaker 01

Hope so. It's a chicken mango salad with sober noodles and a peanut dressing.

• 28:13Jessie Ware?

  Delicious.

• 28:14Speaker 01

  Hope it works.

• 28:14Jessie Ware?

  Absolutely, heaven.

• 28:16Speaker 01

  Just try.

• 28:16Jessie Ware?

  So much.

• 28:17Speaker 01

  Pleasure.

• 28:18Jessie Ware?

Look at these lovely shredded peas.

• 28:21Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. That's what they said to do.

• 28:23Jessie Ware?

That is delicious. So tell us more about this article that you read and you hadn't heard about Augusta.

• 28:30Speaker 02

Augusta Britt. So, yeah, that was where the title came from. And so the, the title in a funny way, yeah, it was, I sort of was really just taken by this woman who'd like inspired so many films and so many books and was kind of like shrouded from. The public and I was really touched by it. So I sort of wrote this song for her and from her perspective. And it was all based in Santa Fe, which is strange because, yeah, but there was something. I don't know. I don't know if you ever have it. It's like, it's not my story, but there was something in it that I very much deeply connected to. And there was things from my past that I felt like connected to into sort of this like obsessive relationship that had like spanned like a long time.

• 29:13Speaker 02

I was really taken by it. So that's, that's where Love Land came from.

• 29:17Jessie Ware?

  I love that.

• 29:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 29:18Jessie Ware?

  This is so tasty, Mum.

• 29:20Speaker 01

  Mmm, do you like it?

• 29:21Jessie Ware?

I, I love, was it easy?

• 29:23Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 29:24Jessie Ware?

  This is like perfect.

• 29:26Speaker 01

Peanut sauce as well. I roasted the chicken last night.

• 29:29Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 29:31Speaker 01

Could I have a bread bar, darling?

• 29:32Jessie Ware?

Oh, you roasted a whole chicken? Okay, lovely.

• 29:35Speaker 01

  I thought it was easier.

• 29:36Jessie Ware?

So, um, okay, let's go back to the Last Supper. So we've got a Coke, a Coca Cola, full fat.

• 29:43Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 29:44Jessie Ware?

And where, at the last supper. Where, where else? What else are we doing?

• 29:48Speaker 02

Um, what are we gonna do? Uh, the Last Supper.

• 29:52Jessie Ware?

  Starter.

• 29:54Speaker 02

Starter, maybe we would do, I like, I like things with radishes.

• 29:59Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 29:59Speaker 02

  Um.

• 30:00Jessie Ware?

What, like a little like crudité?

• 30:02Speaker 02

Yeah, well, it's, yeah, a nice little crudité.

• 30:04Jessie Ware?

What, like a kind of green goddess dressing, what?

• 30:06Speaker 02

I think I would go back to things from my childhood. Maybe, I really like hummus and tarama zilata.

• 30:10Jessie Ware?

  Hmm.

• 30:11Speaker 02

Tarama zilata, where, no one has it anymore though.

• 30:14Speaker 01

  They do.

• 30:15Jessie Ware?

Do they? Yeah, they call it codzaro now. So you don't ever get it called, being called tarum.

• 30:19Speaker 02

  Oh, okay.

• 30:20Jessie Ware?

Don't you feel that? It's always whipped codzaro, which.

• 30:23Speaker 02

  Sorry, Mum, thank you.

• 30:24Jessie Ware?

  Love tarama.

• 30:26Speaker 02

I just haven't heard tarama zilata in ages and I used to eat that all the time.

• 30:30Jessie Ware?

Have, have you tried your daughter on it?

• 30:33Speaker 02

  Uh, not yet.

• 30:34Jessie Ware?

Maybe a bit of pita and tarama?

• 30:35Speaker 02

  Yeah, no, she'd love that.

• 30:36Speaker 01

  Commerce.

• 30:37Speaker 02

  Definitely into that.

• 30:38Speaker 01

  Better.

• 30:39Jessie Ware?

Oh, she not fussy at eating yet?

• 30:40Speaker 02

No, she's quite good. I'm quite happy about that.

• 30:43Jessie Ware?

  I'm enjoying that moment.

• 30:44Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 30:46Jessie Ware?

  So annoying.

• 30:46Speaker 02

Because you don't know when it's gonna change. That's what my best, someone told me in this piece of parenting and, oh no, they said something at the beginning, they were just like, nothing's a straight line. And I'm like, no, that's like, kind of like the best piece of advice I've got. It's just, you never know what's gonna happen.

• 31:00Jessie Ware?

Yeah, I think that phases come early.

• 31:02Speaker 02

Totally. Um, so, okay, so we're going tarama, we're going dicks, a few radishes, maybe a bit of pita in there, fine, hummus.

• 31:10Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 31:11Speaker 02

I'd love like a fish taco, I think.

• 31:13Jessie Ware?

Oh, okay. Well, is that from being in L A so much? Have you had great fish tacos there or Mexico?

• 31:19Speaker 02

Uh, yeah, I love, yeah, that they do do great ones in L A. They do good ones in Notting Hill, actually, that I was really into.

• 31:25Jessie Ware?

  Oh, really?

• 31:25Speaker 02

  Yeah. Um, it's, uh, taqueria.

• 31:29Jessie Ware?

  Which has now been changed.

• 31:30Speaker 02

  Really good, has it?

• 31:31Jessie Ware?

  To tack.

• 31:32Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 31:33Jessie Ware?

And Japs and Box has gone in on that.

• 31:35Speaker 02

  Oh, okay.

• 31:35Jessie Ware?

Mm hmm. They're great tacos for fun. So we've got, we've got the starter, we've got the drink. We're gonna, are we gonna have an alcoholic beverage or are we gonna just stick to Coca Cola?

• 31:45Speaker 02

I think we could have a nice, like a sunset or something.

• 31:49Jessie Ware?

Mmm, yeah, lovely. What, with what?

• 31:52Speaker 02

Uh, with, is this, are we on lunch now?

• 31:55Jessie Ware?

  We're on mains, babe.

• 31:56Speaker 02

I think we might just have a massive bowl of, if it's the last meal, should we just do a spaghetti bolognese?

• 32:02Jessie Ware?

  Oh, lovely.

• 32:03Speaker 02

Lovely. Should we do, yeah, carbonara, we could go really cheesy. Um.

• 32:09Jessie Ware?

So Italian is your go to?

• 32:12Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 32:12Jessie Ware?

Oh, no, you, hold on, you did a taco. Was that, was that like a pre meat tacos?

• 32:16Speaker 02

  We're, we're just going mad.

• 32:18Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, let's just go mad.

• 32:19Speaker 02

  Yeah, we could.

• 32:21Jessie Ware?

I felt like the dick was like a pre start.

• 32:23Speaker 02

I sound like I'm, I don't eat any kind of like special, good food, but I really, I really, I'll sort of eat anything.

• 32:30Jessie Ware?

  Hmm.

• 32:31Speaker 02

I'm massively appreciative of just, yeah, I'll sort of do all of it. I might, I might throw some sushi in there as well, if we're just gonna go.

• 32:38Jessie Ware?

  Fine.

• 32:39Speaker 02

  Some black cod.

• 32:40Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 32:41Speaker 02

  Black cod.

• 32:41Jessie Ware?

  Mmm.

• 32:42Speaker 02

  Delicious.

• 32:43Jessie Ware?

So I feel like maybe you've got a sweet tooth.

• 32:46Speaker 02

  I, yeah.

• 32:47Jessie Ware?

Okay, so where's, is pudding, what are we doing?

• 32:49Speaker 02

So maybe an apple pie would be great. Uh, sticky toffee pudding.

• 32:53Jessie Ware?

  Mmm.

• 32:54Speaker 02

Obsessed with that, like a good custard.

• 32:56Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 32:56Speaker 02

Situation. What did I have? I had a homemade blueberry pie.

• 32:59Speaker 01

  Can't buy custard powder in L A.

• 33:01Speaker 02

  Really?

• 33:02Speaker 01

  No.

• 33:02Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 33:03Speaker 01

If you need to have custard.

• 33:04Speaker 02

What does everyone do with custard?

• 33:05Speaker 01

Maybe make it from scratch. You can't get custard powder. Just take it with you if you need it for your trial.

• 33:12Speaker 02

Yeah, I'm just giving you that.

• 33:13Jessie Ware?

At the moment, you're taking your Alpen and your custard, your birds.

• 33:15Speaker 02

  I've got my suitcase.

• 33:16Speaker 01

Yeah, full of custard powder and Alpen, yeah. Where will you go on holiday? Will you have a summer holiday or are you too busy?

• 33:25Speaker 02

So I had, I just did the countryside for, I've sort of been doing this, this sort of holiday in July has been going to mum and dad's house in Hampshire. Which really, I mean, the weather right now is.

• 33:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:40Speaker 02

  You know, and I just.

• 33:40Speaker 01

  Have they got a pool?

• 33:41Speaker 02

  They do.

• 33:42Jessie Ware?

  Oh, that's great.

• 33:43Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:43Speaker 01

Oh, I'd be there the whole time.

• 33:45Jessie Ware?

You should be there this week, basically.

• 33:47Speaker 02

And then I just went to a friend's, another friend's house in Hampshire last weekend and they had a pond, like a sort of pond with fresh water in it. Which was, they were Icelandic, so they're all about.

• 34:00Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 34:01Speaker 02

Being in the pond, I absolutely love that. So, yeah, it's more just been countryside weekend sort of stuff. And then, yeah, and then I guess the rest of the summer will be coming back to London. I'm doing like a break between, I've got two stints of tour and then I kind of come back for a month in the middle of it. But the annoying thing is, yeah, Rob's working all the time because he's shooting Batman. So he's in like every day.

• 34:25Speaker 01

  Of course, he's the Batman.

• 34:26Jessie Ware?

They're filming it here. Oh, yeah, there's all the studios.

• 34:29Speaker 01

Does he have to speak to you like this when he's in character?

• 34:33Speaker 02

He does, he doesn't to me. No, I think he's safe.

• 34:36Jessie Ware?

He's a very good Batman, I have to say. I think he's a top Batman.

• 34:39Speaker 02

He's amazing. But yeah, he's doing that, which.

• 34:42Jessie Ware?

I'd ask him to bring the costume home to me.

• 34:45Speaker 02

Gets in the way of the holiday plans.

• 34:47Speaker 01

Where can I get a costume in this heat? Oh, my God.

• 34:50Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's a really heavy costume. It's a big, it's, it's, it's, it's pretty like.

• 34:54Speaker 01

And he's just rode across the world in his, in the Odyssey.

• 34:59Speaker 02

Yes, he's rode across the world.

• 35:00Speaker 01

Oh, my God. Or round the world, home or when.

• 35:03Speaker 02

They did, they did that in so many different countries, that movie, so.

• 35:06Jessie Ware?

So will, oh God, I don't, will you take your daughter on tour with you?

• 35:11Speaker 02

Mm hmm. We're moving on tour, baby.

• 35:13Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 35:13Speaker 02

You should be on tour bus yet then.

• 35:17Speaker 02

  Two tours, two tours, yeah.

• 35:19Jessie Ware?

  A one girl child.

• 35:20Speaker 02

Yeah, six, six months old she went and then, um, yeah, and then, yeah, she do, and then she went on the one that I supported. Uh, Levy last year.

• 35:29Jessie Ware?

  What's she like? She's fab, isn't she?

• 35:31Speaker 02

She's so amazing. Yeah, she's, I learnt so much from her.

• 35:33Jessie Ware?

  Really?

• 35:34Speaker 02

Yeah, she's cultivated, she's, she's, yeah, she really, she's just like really understood how to. Like cultivate everything to her niche and grow this like huge audience. She's insanely talented. Like, it was, it was, I was amazing. It was really fun. I really like opening for people sometimes, actually, and going, going and completely being. In their world, um, watching their, you know, watching how they do things and it not all being. On you. I really liked.

• 36:03Jessie Ware?

What did you, what did you learn from Taylor Swift?

• 36:06Speaker 02

What did I learn from Taylor? I mean, I feel like I'm, you learn things from her all the time.

• 36:10Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 36:11Speaker 02

Um, do you know what the best, this was one thing I just always, I mean, I've been friends with her for a long time, so. But she's, she's so, talking of table manners and manners, but she's so, she's so, she makes people feel so special. When she, she just always goes about.

• 36:25Jessie Ware?

One of those people, you feel you're the most important person in the world.

• 36:29Speaker 02

And she, she, um, well, she, I, I remember that one thing I remember about that opening for her. Was getting in and having this, um, this note written to me that was really sweet and heartfelt and. Um, yeah, you know, you get like flowers and a note and you just get these little things that, you know, you get to. Take home and remember that. And she just is really, um, I've always, I've always noticed that about her. She like really takes the time to thank people and she really notices. Everyone around her and gives them their flowers, which I think is probably. You know, so, so much of what we do is about, not just us, but our team, right?

• 37:08Jessie Ware?

  Oh, my, totally.

• 37:09Speaker 02

It's so, it's such a group effort. So I think that's one of the things that I've, I've learnt about her is just like how much grace.

• 37:16Jessie Ware?

I, I think, you know, I went to the Harry Styles show on Friday and his team. And him, and it comes from the top.

• 37:22Speaker 02

  It does, yeah.

• 37:23Jessie Ware?

And they are so incredible and it makes such a difference. There's no ego, there's generosity, there's like consideration and I can so imagine that Taylor. Does that apps so brilliantly.

• 37:36Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:37Jessie Ware?

  Um.

• 37:37Speaker 02

  Ready for dessert.

• 37:38Jessie Ware?

  Yes.

• 37:38Speaker 02

  Oh. What have we got?

• 37:41Speaker 01

  A gooseberry tart.

• 37:42Speaker 02

No, I can't believe how lucky I feel.

• 37:44Speaker 01

  You're so sweet.

• 37:45Speaker 02

  No, I'm like, I cannot wait. I can't wait.

• 37:48Speaker 01

  Let's hope it works.

• 37:49Speaker 02

Gooseberry tart, homemade gooseberry tart. It's ridiculous.

• 37:52Speaker 01

This is, I know, she is just on this Wednesday afternoon.

• 37:55Speaker 02

  Oh, sure.

• 37:56Speaker 01

Because the pastry has elderflower in.

• 37:58Speaker 02

So how long does that take you?

• 38:00Speaker 01

Oh. Yeah, this is all a bit messy, actually.

• 38:03Speaker 02

  Oh, God.

• 38:05Speaker 01

That's okay. It will taste delicious. It'll taste like custard. Suki loves custard. Hold on, I'm doing it from the wrong side.

• 38:12Speaker 02

  Oh, no.

• 38:14Speaker 01

Well, a bit of a hand, darling.

• 38:16Speaker 02

  Sorry.

• 38:16Speaker 01

  Okay, sorry.

• 38:17Speaker 02

  Sorry.

• 38:18Speaker 01

Right, so it's a gooseberry, gooseberry and custard tart.

• 38:22Speaker 02

  Absolutely brilliant.

• 38:23Speaker 01

This is oozy but delicious. Extra creme fraiche or cream.

• 38:26Speaker 02

I feel like it's creamy enough, Mum. This is really.

• 38:29Speaker 01

  Is it nice?

• 38:31Speaker 02

It's slightly underdone, but it's kind of delicious.

• 38:33Speaker 01

It's absolutely delicious. It's supposed to be like this.

• 38:35Speaker 02

  Oh, really?

• 38:36Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 38:36Speaker 02

  Okay, well, it's yummy.

• 38:37Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 38:38Speaker 02

It's yummy. It's great. The gooseberries are so delicious, too.

• 38:45Speaker 01

Well, maybe I do like gooseberries.

• 38:47Speaker 02

I feel like I haven't, I can't think of the last time I even would have come by a gooseberry.

• 38:53Speaker 01

  A gooseberry fall?

• 38:55Speaker 02

  Hmm. I don't think so.

• 38:57Speaker 01

Hmm. They said to cool it completely, but I would have put this in the fridge to set a bit.

• 39:02Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 39:02Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, maybe.

• 39:03Speaker 02

Maybe it's just too hot today and so it needed to set in the fridge.

• 39:07Speaker 01

Well, the pastry's so good as well.

• 39:08Speaker 02

  The pastry's yummy.

• 39:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:11Speaker 02

Wow. I remember this one time.

• 39:13Speaker 01

  It is delicious.

• 39:14Speaker 02

A year or two ago, um, me and Rob tried to make dinner, uh, lunch for his sister who was coming round. And it's sort of this famous story. Do you ever, I looked up this recipe about, it was like a salad with baked strawberries.

• 39:30Speaker 01

  No.

• 39:30Speaker 02

Do you guys ever bake strawberries?

• 39:32Speaker 01

  Uh-uh.

• 39:32Speaker 02

  I've, no.

• 39:32Speaker 01

  No.

• 39:33Speaker 02

  That's not a thing.

• 39:33Speaker 01

  Like a roasted strawberry.

• 39:35Speaker 02

I just think, yeah, because some people do it with balsamic or something.

• 39:37Speaker 01

  Strawberries in the oven.

• 39:38Speaker 02

  Right.

• 39:38Speaker 01

  It looks delicious.

• 39:39Speaker 02

Okay. Um, but yeah, that, it's kind of gone down as this, uh, quite infamous story about us.

• 39:48Speaker 02

In the kitchen, just carrying out these sort of like oozing baked strawberries.

• 39:54Jessie Ware?

  Want some more?

• 39:55Speaker 02

Yeah, I honestly, I would have more.

• 39:57Jessie Ware?

Yeah, do it. Did it taste good?

• 40:01Speaker 02

I thought, I thought so, actually.

• 40:03Jessie Ware?

So why is it an improvement, just that, was it a Bridget Jones moment?

• 40:07Speaker 02

It was a bit of a Bridget Jones moment. I think they, yeah, I think they were just confused, but I would like, yeah, I'm just asking you guys, like, do you, that's not something that you.

• 40:15Jessie Ware?

Have we ever had a, what?

• 40:16Speaker 02

You guys don't, you guys don't.

• 40:17Speaker 01

  We've had disasters, yeah.

• 40:19Jessie Ware?

  Oh, we've had disasters.

• 40:20Speaker 02

  Not with strawberries.

• 40:21Jessie Ware?

I mean, with strawberries. Do you, you never bake a strawberry?

• 40:22Speaker 01

  I've never baked strawberry.

• 40:23Jessie Ware?

Okay, fine. But you've had disasters on the show?

• 40:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:26Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 40:26Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:27Speaker 01

  Had to order them.

• 40:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:29Speaker 01

Sookie, where do you buy most of your clothes? In London?

• 40:33Speaker 02

Are you vintage? I really love at the moment, um, Lover's Lane on Waterfellow. I'm going there a lot. That's a vintage.

• 40:41Speaker 01

  Oh, you like vintage?

• 40:42Speaker 02

Got your microphone covered in gooseberry.

• 40:46Speaker 02

Yeah, I do like my vintage.

• 40:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:48Speaker 02

I mean, at the moment, I've been getting quite.

• 40:49Speaker 01

  That's not vintage.

• 40:51Speaker 02

Uh, this is like charity, kind of charity shops.

• 40:53Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 40:54Speaker 02

Yeah, I've been, I've been getting quite good at going around and then there's, um, this website called Vinted.

• 41:00Speaker 01

Oh, I love Vinted. We all love Vinted.

• 41:03Jessie Ware?

What is your kind of for you page on Vinted? Like, what, what are you getting fed a lot of?

• 41:08Speaker 02

I think like, I'm, I'm trying to, uh, I'm always trying to find like a sort of cool, comfortable but interesting jacket.

• 41:15Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 41:16Speaker 02

Like a sort of cropped jacket. I'm always.

• 41:18Jessie Ware?

You had a good crop jacket on the Zimmerman performance, which by the way, was really brilliant.

• 41:22Speaker 02

  Oh, thank you.

• 41:22Jessie Ware?

That crop jacket, that looked fab on you with the kind of gilet thing.

• 41:26Speaker 02

Yeah, like, I'm quite into a gilet at the moment. I just found a great gilet on Vinted. Um, it's sort of, yeah, like, thin and then it's got like a little bit of a fluffy, I love a little bit of a fluff.

• 41:35Jessie Ware?

  Do you, do you barter?

• 41:37Speaker 02

Uh, not really. I'm a bit of like getting, getting, getting out. Yeah. And then there's a website called Graild. I'm on that quite a lot. Yeah. And then First dibs sometimes for clothes.

• 41:47Jessie Ware?

I thought, I thought. First dibs was for art.

• 41:49Speaker 02

They have, they have like some pieces sometimes that you could get or like jewellery and little like, yeah, they do have things. But a lot of that, I do go on Instagram a lot and find vintage sort of sellers and stuff that I quite like. Um, but I'm, yeah, I can, I can shop. I can shop.

• 42:05Jessie Ware?

  To drop.

• 42:06Speaker 01

Do you think there'll be a sequel to Daisy Jones?

• 42:09Speaker 02

No, because it's a limited series.

• 42:11Speaker 01

  I know.

• 42:12Speaker 02

It's such a shame. Yeah. I know. We tried to go on.

• 42:14Speaker 01

  Sam Claflin.

• 42:16Speaker 02

  Sam Claflin, yeah.

• 42:17Speaker 01

No, you see, I think he's gorgeous.

• 42:19Speaker 02

Yeah. Well, I've worked on, I actually worked with him. The first movie I ever did was this film called Love Rosie and I was a model at the time and my agent said, he was always trying to like find me something else other than modeling to do because he was like, you're just not very good. So he was like, you should.

• 42:33Speaker 01

  Modeling?

• 42:34Speaker 02

Yeah. He was like, you should be a stylist or he was sort of.

• 42:37Speaker 01

  Did she?

• 42:38Speaker 02

No, but he was helpfully trying to like, I wasn't, you know.

• 42:41Speaker 01

  Expand.

• 42:42Speaker 02

Yes. He was like, you should expand. So he, he, and I was, I always had quite a lot of energy and I hadn't acted before, but he, um, he said, why don't you go to this? There's an audition they're trying to find because the girl in the movie plays sort of a model. So she, so I went to this audition and got the film, uh, called Love Rosie with Sam Claflin and, and Lily Collins. Which was such a crazy, like, look, and the movie's kind of great. It really stands the test of time. It's like quite a, like, really.

• 43:11Speaker 01

  It's called Love.

• 43:12Speaker 02

  Love Rosie.

• 43:12Speaker 01

  I must watch it.

• 43:13Speaker 02

Yeah, you should watch it. It makes you feel, yeah.

• 43:15Speaker 01

  Great.

• 43:15Speaker 02

You feel like you're right in the two thousands.

• 43:17Speaker 01

  Right.

• 43:18Speaker 02

Um, so that was, and I kind of play the, I'm like, kind of like the villain in it and it was, it was great fun. So I hadn't seen Sam not that much since that movie. So, I think it was like a decade after that we did Daisy Jones and the Six together.

• 43:32Jessie Ware?

  Before we let you go.

• 43:33Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 43:33Jessie Ware?

It's been completely wonderful having you.

• 43:34Speaker 02

Oh, thank you guys so much.

• 43:36Jessie Ware?

Um, a nostalgic taste that can transport you back somewhere.

• 43:40Speaker 02

A nostalgic taste. Oh, golden syrup.

• 43:44Jessie Ware?

  Oh, wow.

• 43:46Speaker 02

Do you remember having golden syrup a lot?

• 43:47Jessie Ware?

I've actually, I've got some in my house.

• 43:49Speaker 01

And you have it on porridge. What did you have it on?

• 43:52Speaker 02

  Yeah, on porridge.

• 43:53Jessie Ware?

  Pancakes?

• 43:54Speaker 02

  Pancakes. I was just obsessed.

• 43:55Speaker 01

  It's so thick.

• 43:56Speaker 02

I know, but as a kid, I was all about the golden syrup.

• 44:00Speaker 01

  You like sugar, Sookie?

• 44:01Speaker 02

  I do, I do. Yeah.

• 44:03Jessie Ware?

Thank you so much. All right. Good luck. Thank you so much, guys. Also, just good luck with tour and congratulations. Like, you're doing it all. This was so lovely. I feel I'm so grateful to be able to come on this podcast and get this lovely lunch. Such a pleasure. You were a fabulous guest. Oh, thank you.

• 44:19Speaker 01

  Sorry, it's a bit gooey.

• 44:21Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 44:21Speaker 01

  No.

• 44:22Jessie Ware?

I mean, we managed to finish it, didn't we? Yeah. The portion size was perfect. You're a Gusby fan now. I actually think I'm a Gusby fan. I was like, yeah, no, they're a bit furry. That was great. I'm a Gusby fan. Yeah.

• 44:47Jessie Ware?

Mum, that was such a delicious lunch.

• 44:49Speaker 01

  It was, yeah.

• 44:50Jessie Ware?

  I loved it so much.

• 44:51Speaker 01

The chilies didn't make you feel too hot?

• 44:53Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 44:54Speaker 01

  Oh, they did me.

• 44:55Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 44:56Speaker 01

Yeah. I had to pull them all out.

• 44:58Jessie Ware?

Oh, no. Yeah. I really loved it.

• 45:00Speaker 01

He left her chilies as well, I noticed. And I got the extra mild ones because they mentioned Fresno chilies. Never heard of a Fresno chili.

• 45:09Jessie Ware?

Mum, why don't next time you just not do a recipe with chilies in?

• 45:13Speaker 01

Because I thought everyone else seems to like chilies and sriracha.

• 45:17Jessie Ware?

Sriracha's quite, like, hot, like, if you don't...

• 45:20Speaker 01

It was only half a teaspoon of sriracha.

• 45:22Jessie Ware?

  Okay, Mum, we're fine.

• 45:23Speaker 01

  That wasn't a lot.

• 45:24Jessie Ware?

It was so yum. I... And the roast chicken was beautiful.

• 45:29Speaker 01

It's worth roasting the chicken rather than, yeah, a whole roast chicken.

• 45:33Jessie Ware?

  I thoroughly enjoyed it.

• 45:35Speaker 01

  All right.

• 45:36Jessie Ware?

  So good.

• 45:36Speaker 01

  And the goose guts?

• 45:37Jessie Ware?

Sukie loves it. The custard had not set, but it...

• 45:40Speaker 01

No, it had set. It was a Gusby and custard tart. So take it out the oven and leave it at room temperature.

• 45:47Jessie Ware?

Yeah, but I think maybe because it's hot.

• 45:49Speaker 01

I realised it was 30 degrees.

• 45:50Jessie Ware?

  Exactly.

• 45:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:51Jessie Ware?

But it was, yeah, it's hotter than that.

• 45:53Speaker 01

Should have gone in the, um, in the...

• 45:55Jessie Ware?

Doesn't matter. It was so good.

• 45:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:58Jessie Ware?

It really felt like we were in the quaint English countryside.

• 46:02Speaker 01

My pastry, Paul Hollywood, was cooked.

• 46:06Jessie Ware?

  It was really good.

• 46:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:07Jessie Ware?

Not a soggy bot, no, in sight. Not a decaying bot as a Sukie. That was a brilliant story.

• 46:14Speaker 01

  Decaying bottoms.

• 46:15Jessie Ware?

Thank you to Sukie Waterhouse for coming on the podcast and being such a fab guest. So Kie Waterhouse's album Love Land is really fab and you should go and have a listen.

• 46:25Speaker 01

And I would just once in my life be able to wear a skirt like she was wearing.

• 46:29Jessie Ware?

  Oh, I know.

• 46:31Speaker 01

I would only ask for one, give me an hour, God.

• 46:34Jessie Ware?

  I know.

• 46:34Speaker 01

Of wearing a short skirt like that.

• 46:36Jessie Ware?

  I know.

• 46:37Speaker 01

  Yeah. So gorgeous.

• 46:39Jessie Ware?

  Just throw it together.

• 46:41Speaker 01

  Just.

• 46:41Jessie Ware?

She's just got style running through her veins.

• 46:45Jessie Ware?

Um, we'll see you next week for more podcasts.
