This episode is presented in partnership with Airbnb, where summer adventures feel like a home away from home. Speaking of unforgettable moments, well, you'll see. Let's start the show.

• 1:11Keke Palmer?

Welcome to the show, Kat Graham. Thank you. It's weird. We're adults now in these bodies. Girl, it's so insane. I'm so happy that we still look good. I know. We look the same age. Period. We're still 14.

• 1:22Keke Palmer?

I mean, how are you? How's everything going? I'm good. I'm blessed. I'm really feeling really good. Sorry, my earrings are real loud, y'all. Y'all can tell me to take them off. It's just for the face, all right? No, the look is looking. They cannot come off. Look who's talking. Girl. Who let you out the house? You know, the amazing thing is that you're Virgo, but you're actually like a really special Virgo. Oh, no. Because your whole big three is Virgo. I know. I'm a triple Virgo. Isn't that amazing? By the way, Virgos in the house, I need y'all to make some noise real quick.

• 1:49Keke Palmer?

So, yeah, we have a Virgo city over here. But triple Virgo, how do you feel like that shows up in your life? Do you really feel more Virgo than the most Virgos? Oh, my gosh, my team is like, go on, tell them.

• 2:00Keke Palmer?

  That mean you checking everybody.

• 2:02Speaker 01

Yeah, well, you know, you just looked at everything five ways, sideways before, before they could even give you. Nah, I already thought about it. Let me, I already thought about it. This is how it's gonna be. And you're a perfectionist.

• 2:14Keke Palmer?

It's so true. I just seen this meme that's been going viral with Beyonce and they be like a Virgo Virgo-ing. And it's literally her like being like, I said that yesterday.

• 2:21Speaker 01

  Right.

• 2:22Keke Palmer?

So what are you guys gonna fix?

• 2:23Speaker 01

  Right.

• 2:23Keke Palmer?

Because I mean, I feel like I keep repeating myself.

• 2:26Speaker 01

I know, I know. I've seen that one. I, I watch all the, and I follow all the little Virgos.

• 2:31Keke Palmer?

  Girl, me too.

• 2:32Speaker 01

I'm like, oh my God, it's me, it's me. I'm like, you know, it's just so real.

• 2:36Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh.

• 2:36Speaker 01

  It's so real. Virgos, Virgos.

• 2:38Keke Palmer?

I literally live for that. Now, when you were on OK Player, you said you've always had that bossy Virgo energy since you were a kid.

• 2:44Speaker 01

Oh no. Is that true? Kiki, you gotta tell me.

• 2:46Keke Palmer?

I'm going through all the references, girl, for this interview. I was getting prepared.

• 2:49Speaker 01

But as long as you've known me, I don't feel like that. I'm pretty easygoing.

• 2:53Keke Palmer?

But you started acting at age six. I mean, to, to, to be, you know, leading the charge and getting everybody on your side. I mean, you definitely had some direction. What do you, what do you remember from back then?

• 3:01Speaker 01

So funny when you say that because as we were kinda getting closer to the date of me seeing you, I was like, man, for her to have produced the way she's been producing and then to also drop the visual album and to be singing like she sings and to be so self-motivated, self-curated. I think, I think it was like a Grace Jones quote, "One creates oneself." I think that's a Grace Jones quote.

• 3:33Keke Palmer?

  It's a beautiful quote.

• 3:33Speaker 01

And I feel like you've created everything for your life.

• 3:40Keke Palmer?

I really, really receive that. And I feel like the Virgos would definitely get it. Like, this is so, that what you just said is like, that's all, you know.

• 3:46Speaker 01

  It's so you.

• 3:47Keke Palmer?

It's so me. And I feel like you get it because I feel that you are the same way. Like, I feel like, you know, we've worked with major companies and did big collaborations.

• 3:56Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 3:57Keke Palmer?

But we've always been our own engine, you know, of, of just independence. Like, whether it's our music projects or what, you know, I know you're directing and like, there's, it, it, it is a different thing to like, know that it's worth it to invest in yourself.

• 4:10Speaker 01

Exactly. And you do that really, really well. Also, Tiana Taylor, our girl Tiana, she does that really, really well.

• 4:16Keke Palmer?

And it does it for others too.

• 4:18Speaker 01

Right. Almost, it seems like a necessity. Though.

• 4:21Keke Palmer?

  I think it is.

• 4:22Speaker 01

Right? I mean, you look at what Viola's done with her production company and all that.

• 4:25Keke Palmer?

I'm so glad you're opening this up.

• 4:26Speaker 01

  Right.

• 4:27Keke Palmer?

What do they say? Please wake up that tea.

• 4:28Speaker 01

  Right.

• 4:29Keke Palmer?

Because we always are talking about, I was talking to somebody else about number one on the call sheet. And I, uh, number one on the call sheet, I didn't watch the whole thing, but I remember the big feedback was just how they were saying there weren't enough opportunities for a lot of the black women after they did that big role, that won number one on the call sheet.

• 4:44Speaker 01

  It's true.

• 4:44Keke Palmer?

And although it, you know, it's terrible and it shouldn't be that way, it does come down to, which is why I think in this generation, so many of us are are learning, that we learn from them, that we have to produce.

• 4:55Speaker 01

  You have to.

• 4:56Keke Palmer?

We have to find that investor. We have to find that team or that situation or that project that we can, you know what I mean? Even if it's on a smaller budget, like just keep making your movies.

• 5:05Speaker 01

  You gotta keep creating it.

• 5:06Keke Palmer?

Yes, you have to keep creating it.

• 5:07Speaker 01

You can't let anyone hold your narrative.

• 5:09Keke Palmer?

No one else is gonna do it for you. And if they do, it might be crazy and all.

• 5:13Speaker 01

Right. And nobody gonna do Keke Palmer, man, and Keke Palmer?

• 5:16Keke Palmer?

  You know what I'm saying?

• 5:17Speaker 01

You know what I'm saying? But then it helps everyone, myself included, who's known you forever, you know, to understand who you are as an artist overall. And it's very hard when somebody's as talented as you to be able to put that in a box. And people are gonna try to do that. And you're like, let me just, let me just sing this song. Let me just make this visual album. Let me just do the hit movies. Y'all will understand when I'm done. Let me just do the hit movies, get out my way. Thank you kindly. You know what I mean?

• 5:46Keke Palmer?

But that is the thing, because a lot of, in reality, for any artist, no one really can see the vision for you the way you can. So a lot of times, people don't even be trying to box you, but that's all that they know. So, you know what I mean? So that's what they're gonna do. This makes me think about somebody who, uh, you know.

• 6:01Speaker 01

  I'm gonna be interviewing you?

• 6:02Keke Palmer?

  I live.

• 6:03Speaker 01

I just, you know, these are things that I think about. These are like, when I think of you, I'm like, these are the things that I wanna, you know, give you your flowers.

• 6:11Keke Palmer?

Uh, I really receive that. I feel like you worked with somebody who's done this at the highest level, who was your mentor, Prince. I mean, what was that experience like working with someone like him? Because he broke down every single barrier there could be from gender to music genre.

• 6:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:29Keke Palmer?

I mean, he definitely was somebody who changed the game and made way for, for this kind of mentality. And you got to work so close. When I'm like, that's crazy. How did y'all meet and start working together?

• 6:39Speaker 01

It's so funny. I always feel when, um, I'm put on the spot about it, I feel like he just shows up.

• 6:45Keke Palmer?

But honestly, he feels like that energy.

• 6:47Speaker 01

Yeah. He's like, go and tell her.

• 6:50Speaker 02

  Go and tell the truth.

• 6:53Speaker 01

He was very, uh, he was one of my best friends for, I would say from, when did we meet? Two thousand thirteen until his, until his passing, until his transition, he would want me to say. He would send me some, you know, different records of like different other artists and he's like, you don't have to over-sexualize yourself. You can put God into your work. This is how I would write it. Because I'm stubborn in the studio. I've had, you know, produced and engineered and I like writing my own music and, you know, and Prince would be like, here, I wrote this for you. I'm like, well, I like to write. And he was like, well, uh, I can teach you how to fish or I can fish for you. It's one of the others that said, teach me how to fish.

• 7:38Speaker 01

So we would sit in the studio and we would create. Uh, he would tell me, well, you know, if I were you, I would change this to this. And, you know, I would send him some records and, you know, he would have his opinions, of course, and I do it anyways. But he taught me more so that you can hold your essence in front of the camera. You don't have to dilute your messaging for people. You can still be somebody who's spiritual, who loves God, who stands in their power and, and creates for yourself. And you don't have to dilute that for a machine or anything like that.

• 8:20Speaker 01

And so when he told me that, I changed the way I navigated the industry and how I showed up. So, yeah. He was very silly also. I don't think he wanted me to say all that. He was very silly.

• 8:32Keke Palmer?

Well, he wanted to keep that mystery.

• 8:34Speaker 01

  Right.

• 8:34Keke Palmer?

That we all lived, a part of the storyline that we live for. But that is incredible. Everything that you just said right now, I think that's so important for any performer to know and to hear. Because the, the, the camera can sometimes suck the life of you. The life of you, even metaphorically, just being watched and perceived. It can stop you from, or be a hindrance to your becoming and so, you know, if you pay too much attention.

• 8:56Speaker 01

Your essence cuts through, like a thousand percent. Anyone watching this, if y'all want to comment, go ahead and give Kiki like, all the props. Validate what I'm saying because it's so real. Like you're, I'm such a Virgo. I'm like, go in here, let me direct your audience.

• 9:11Keke Palmer?

This what y'all need to do, but also do it. Um, I do wanna um, go to really quick a sidebar. I do wanna go back to Prince if we get a chance. But I wanted to just mention, you've been in so many millennial classics.

• 9:24Speaker 01

  Have I?

• 9:25Keke Palmer?

Girl, The Parent Trap, Lizzie McGuire.

• 9:28Speaker 01

  Lizzie McGuire!

• 9:29Keke Palmer?

  Like, like.

• 9:29Speaker 01

Not just bringing it up. Hold on, where my phone? I'ma do the same thing to you. Don't do that to me, Kiki. I'ma get, I'ma get you.

• 9:35Keke Palmer?

  Hillary Duff, like, Lizzie McGuire.

• 9:37Speaker 01

  Hillary Duff!

• 9:37Keke Palmer?

What do you remember about, I mean, that's like the prime, I'm not giving no shade, no tea, but those are prime Disney, Nickelodeon, Ariel, shout out True Jackson VP.

• 9:44Speaker 01

Thank you so much, I was very proud when I, when I got them roles. I was very proud. Um, you know, I wish I could just fluff myself up and be like, I felt so good when I was doing it. I mean, I love Miley Cyrus, she is so sweet.

• 9:57Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 9:59Speaker 01

But I do remember feeling, that feeling that I know you felt. That, oh, I'm the only black person here. And, oh wow, I'm, you know, I'm, I'm only a guest star. And, yeah, you wanna be grateful, but you also feel like, you know, you're looking at your white counterparts and you're like, wow, I'd, I'd really do something with that role if I got a chance to do that. If I could only get the opportunity to, to even audition for that, you know? And I think, I remember that feeling coming in from The Parent Trap. I did have one line, it got cut. And I remember feeling the disappointment, I think I was like eight or nine years old, of watching that movie with, with my mom.

• 10:43Speaker 01

And I was like, man, I would've, I would've killed it with a bigger role, you know?

• 10:48Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 10:48Speaker 01

And, and that's something that I have to be careful of as I get older, and it still happens sometimes. But when I think back on that, I think, I think I really, you know, I'm, I'm grateful for it, but I, you know, I think there was a lot of, um.

• 11:01Keke Palmer?

It was just a different experience for you, considering the perspective or the major point.

• 11:04Speaker 01

I wanted to do more. I was like, this is it? I'm like, I'm grateful, yay, I'm on TV, I finally got a job.

• 11:09Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 11:10Speaker 01

I can take a break from backup dancing, but, you know, you're kinda always back to square one with those little jobs, you know?

• 11:15Keke Palmer?

But then you get a big role on Vampire Diaries. We think about pop culture moving forward, because again, you've always been in the forefront.

• 11:21Speaker 01

  Right.

• 11:22Keke Palmer?

  Um, you played, obviously, Bonnie.

• 11:25Speaker 01

  Bonnie.

• 11:26Keke Palmer?

And, I mean, tell me about that experience, because you, it was when the show was on, people had their comments, but then obviously over time, where we start talking more about black, yeah, black characters on shows.

• 11:35Speaker 01

Gen Z came in and said, no, no, no.

• 11:37Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 11:38Speaker 01

  This is what it is.

• 11:46Keke Palmer?

Baby, I had a vision so clear it hit me like a pool noodle to the face. My perfect Labor Day weekend laid out in HD. There I am, floating like a queen on my inflatable throne at golden hour, when the smell of something heavenly hits my nose. My best friend is in the kitchen of our Airbnb, channeling her inner Gordon Ramsay, but with actual seasoning. Not a sad room service sandwich in sight. She's serving up her best attempt at recreating one of the lovely chef Teeny's recipes. Hey, girl. Last summer, I booked one of those gorgeous Airbnbs that I found through their guest favorites. If I had a gourmet kitchen for our potluck dinners and a huge living room from where we could spread out for our game night in ketchup. During the day, we were lounging by our private pool,

• 12:30Keke Palmer?

and at night, we were stargazing from the deck with snacks and stories. That's the magic of Airbnb. You get these perfect spaces to really connect with your friends. If you're planning an end of summer getaway, consider an Airbnb Guest Favorite. These are some of the most highly rated homes on Airbnb. Perfect for group trips or family vacations. I mean, you get more space, privacy, and better locations than you can shake a vacation selfie stick at.

• 13:01Keke Palmer?

Grab your popcorn and sip a little something, because I'm going to need my girls every Wednesday to watch Tyler Perry's Sisters at 9/8 Central on BET. Listen to this. With the stress of jobs, relationships, and jealousy, everyone is on the edge of their breaking point. The drama is more intense than ever, and the bonds of sisterhood are being tested like never before. These women thought they had it all figured out, but honey, life had other plans. Between secret romances, workplace rivalries, and friendships hanging on by a thread, anything can happen, and the sister circle may never be the same. Y'all, when I tell you this season is serving everything we need, tears, laughter, romance, and those jaw-dropping moments

• 13:45Keke Palmer?

that'll have you texting your group chat at midnight? Now, that sounds like my kind of show. Watch new episodes of Tyler Perry's Sisters Wednesday at 9/8 Central, only on BET. Trust me, you don't want to miss it.

• 14:01Speaker 01

I think anything that you're doing for eight years has like positives and negatives. I mean, I found myself a lot on that show. Like, I found my coach, Ivana Chubbick. I learned how to turn, you know, pain to fuel and all of those things. And I didn't really notice I was the only black person on it until a little bit later.

• 14:21Keke Palmer?

I do feel like, though, being, to your point, like, being a minority, you know, it does kind of drift into the background that you're the only black somewhere because it does sometimes end up being very common. So you can't really think about it. Because if you walk into every room being like, "I'm the only black..."

• 14:36Speaker 01

I've been the only black person. What you talking about? It's been 20 years I've been the only black person.

• 14:40Keke Palmer?

Right, so it becomes a thing where you don't really think about.

• 14:42Speaker 01

  No, no.

• 14:43Keke Palmer?

  Because, okay.

• 14:45Speaker 01

Yeah, I think the biggest thing came over time.

• 14:49Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 14:50Speaker 01

Where audiences started to feel cheated and they started to feel underrepresented. And not just by me, by the LGBTQ community, the Asian community, you know.

• 15:03Keke Palmer?

Anybody that's not, that's been pushed aside or if their storylines have been put in the story it's been literally off the basis that they're gay, they're black, they're Spanish, they're Asian, like, where the whole personality is that. You're not really getting into the nuance of what that means to the storyline.

• 15:18Speaker 01

No, I know. And then it became, and that was obviously really hard for me because I like to, you know, consider myself a human rights activist, right? Like, this was, I was doing Vampire Diaries while I was also doing all the prides and working with GLAD and, you know, doing all my UN work. So obviously, those kind of comments, that kind of perception and what they were observing didn't sit well with me. And I really had to look at it and be a representation for them. And how do I do that? Like, how do we talk to the writers? How do we talk to the execs? And how do we make it better? And I think... They, they did try and then certain things, they came up short and I think it was.

• 15:59Keke Palmer?

It was also a different time.

• 16:01Speaker 01

  It was a different time.

• 16:02Keke Palmer?

  Too.

• 16:02Speaker 01

But what's weird is that there was a time, I mean, remember like Moesha and, and even like Family Matters and Girlfriends? On UPN 13, which ended up being the CW. But I, I had Sister Sister.

• 16:17Keke Palmer?

  Sister Sister.

• 16:17Speaker 01

You know, I never missed an episode of that. So to, it was weird. There was a, there was a jump.

• 16:22Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 16:23Speaker 01

  That we almost went backwards.

• 16:25Keke Palmer?

And there's like a difference between being on a black show. Or predominantly black show and being a black person on a predominantly white show.

• 16:33Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 16:33Keke Palmer?

Because the subject, the culture sometimes obviously isn't a part of it. I mean, I feel like there's been times where that gets a little bit better, where we start to see more of, I wish I could think of a show right now to say where that's happening to prove that point. But I would like to believe that now when that is the case.

• 16:48Speaker 01

  Right.

• 16:49Keke Palmer?

We do see those characters live more nuanced lives.

• 16:53Speaker 01

  Right.

• 16:53Keke Palmer?

As before, it was just kind of like, this is just the black character in the show.

• 16:57Speaker 01

  Right.

• 16:57Keke Palmer?

Um, which yeah, you know, again, times have changed. So I'm really glad that the conversation around is, is, is changing. Have you talked to any of your Vampire Diaries colleagues now or even the writers? When they see these things? Maybe you haven't. I mean, people think we always keep in touch. We don't always.

• 17:13Speaker 01

That's, that's true. That's true. No, I see, I, I do talk to my, my cast members a good, a good chunk.

• 17:20Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 17:20Speaker 01

You know, I see them at appearances and they're sweet and super supportive and I love me some Nina and Candace. And, um, the writers, I, you know, I've shared my perspectives privately, you know?

• 17:31Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 17:32Speaker 01

Because, you know, I'm a spiritual person at the end of the day and, you know, I think it was my angel, they could do better. They, you know, if they knew better, they would do better.

• 17:39Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 17:40Speaker 01

And I think that's the attitude I like to have.

• 17:42Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 17:42Speaker 01

Um, with all that stuff, you know, it's up to me to. To do my job, do my part.

• 17:48Keke Palmer?

Yeah, I love that. I definitely think that you have, when you were speaking about, um, just a few minutes ago, about your activism, I was really like delighted to to hear about you going to Jordan and Ethiopia.

• 17:57Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 17:58Keke Palmer?

And that's incredible. How did you start doing that?

• 18:00Speaker 01

  I, uh.

• 18:01Keke Palmer?

I know your parents were also activists, or they were refugees.

• 18:05Speaker 01

  My grandpa, my grandparents.

• 18:07Keke Palmer?

Your grandparents, wow. So I guess it runs in your blood.

• 18:10Speaker 01

Yeah, you know, just, just, I come from refugees, so on my father's side, it's all Liberian. Um, my grandfather fled the coup in Liberia. They lined him on the beach to be shot, and he fled and went to Switzerland. I was born in Switzerland because of that, but my father was doing, um, like he was a jazz exec, kind of like hanging out with, you know, Quincy and that whole gang.

• 18:34Keke Palmer?

Because Quincy Jones, he's your godfather, right?

• 18:36Speaker 01

I asked Q and my dad about it, and they're kind of both did the kind of old man thing, like, ah, sugar, I don't remember what we were doing back in the eighties. I don't, you know, I'm like, all right, but anyways, but I, I met Q completely not from my dad, because my dad and I are estranged. I don't even talk to my dad, and my mom has passed. But on my mom's side, it was all like, um, my grandmother fled the Holocaust. So there's this kind of violence on both sides. And I grew up experiencing that. I grew up hearing stories about war and displacement and, and when I had to, when I was really struggling as a Virgo child actress.

• 19:17Keke Palmer?

Okay. It can get really like stressed for us.

• 19:22Speaker 01

  It was so dark.

• 19:23Keke Palmer?

  We can be so tense.

• 19:24Speaker 01

So tense. My mom was like, why don't you go volunteer at the children's hospital or something? Get out your own way. And I was like, oh.

• 19:31Keke Palmer?

  Shout out to mom.

• 19:32Speaker 01

Shout out to my mom. And, um, I did, and I was like, wow, I feel like myself. And I was like, well, how do I do that? And continue to do that. And I remember there was like a photo of like Angelina Jolie and like, uh, People Mag or something, and I ripped it out and I was like, Wow, like this seems like something I'd wanna do one day. And she was an ambassador for the UN. And I'm like, that sounds real special. And she gets to go to all these places. And I think I was 14 years old and I like saved this picture. And I was like, I'm gonna go to Ethiopia and I'm gonna go to Africa. And I'm gonna like help the people that were like my grandparents and the people that, you know, make them feel seen and heard and tell their stories. If I'm a storyteller, well, let me get on to it then. And so I've been going to Africa and doing that work.

• 20:17Speaker 01

And, you know, we lost a bit of funding this year, but, you know, we gonna keep what, keep doing what we do and.

• 20:23Keke Palmer?

And there's definitely a lot of people that need your, need your help, need all of our help.

• 20:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, all of our help.

• 20:28Keke Palmer?

Yeah, especially in these times. I know we always say especially in these times, cuz I feel like the times have never end. They just get like worser in spurts and then we, we ease up for a few months. And then it gets worse again.

• 20:38Speaker 01

It's true. We have to stay, we have to stay on it. So, yeah.

• 20:41Keke Palmer?

But I love what you said because I think there's, we're in this place now where we're obviously all in, in, in so many different variations of what is need, right? Economy, you know, political, whatever your, your factions are. But what is important that I love about this story is that sometimes knowing that you can just be of service to one person.

• 20:58Speaker 01

  That's it.

• 20:58Keke Palmer?

That will help you get out your own way.

• 21:00Speaker 01

And by the way, it doesn't have to be.

• 21:01Keke Palmer?

I know it's hard to give when you have nothing.

• 21:03Speaker 01

  Sorry, my braces.

• 21:03Keke Palmer?

Oh, you're good. I know it's hard to give when you, I feel like the upper arm braces, they never stay up.

• 21:10Speaker 01

  They never stay up.

• 21:10Keke Palmer?

It's like, why are you designed like this? You'll never stay where you're supposed to be.

• 21:14Speaker 01

  There it is.

• 21:15Keke Palmer?

  It looks good though.

• 21:16Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 21:17Keke Palmer?

That's why we be wearing them.

• 21:18Speaker 01

  You know what I'm saying?

• 21:19Keke Palmer?

But, you know, I just, I feel like if we can remember to do something.

• 21:23Speaker 01

  Right.

• 21:23Keke Palmer?

Send us a smile, cooking a little soup and bringing it down to the old folks home. Sometimes that can help us.

• 21:28Speaker 01

  And it's these little moments.

• 21:29Keke Palmer?

  With our current perspective.

• 21:30Speaker 01

It's these little moments, like even just like the valet or the, you know, the person that's just, you know, cleaning or refilling your coffee, whatever it is, just, you gotta connect with people, the security guards that check me in, how you doing?

• 21:42Keke Palmer?

  That's right.

• 21:42Speaker 01

How are you? That is your. You know.

• 21:46Keke Palmer?

  Wow.

• 21:46Speaker 01

Connection to source, and I think in a lot of ways.

• 21:50Keke Palmer?

I agree with that. Did you grow up in a church? You have such a, you're a very spiritual person. How did you continue to, or how did you cultivate that as a kid? And how do you cultivate that as an adult?

• 21:59Speaker 01

I think living in Georgia has helped me a lot. Because we filmed the show. We filmed the show. I grew up here, as you know, but I, we started filming in 2009.

• 22:07Keke Palmer?

  With Vampire Diaries?

• 22:08Speaker 01

  Right, and I stayed there.

• 22:09Keke Palmer?

And y'all did film in Atlanta.

• 22:10Speaker 01

But we finished in 2017, and they were like, alright guys, everybody packing up and going back to LA. And I had this moment where I was like, well, what kind of person do I want to be? You know, I was like, I really like these folks here, and I want to be, I want to act like a Georgian. Um, I am a little churchy, even though I grew up Jewish. I love Jesus. I'm really, I'm about Jesus. I'm gonna tell you right now, I love you some Jesus. Get on tape.

• 22:33Keke Palmer?

Do you feel like you incorporate both? Like your Judaism background and your Christian background?

• 22:38Speaker 01

Um, probably. I mean, I speak Hebrew and I, and I, you know.

• 22:43Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh, that's incredible.

• 22:44Speaker 01

It's random. Kind of useless. Um, but I like, you know, I don't know, I think, I think, I know when there's turbulence on the plane, I'm praying to Jesus.

• 22:56Keke Palmer?

  Girl.

• 22:57Speaker 01

No, I just, you know, I think I'm somebody who just believes in forgiveness. I really do. I, I, you know, I'm, I'm spiritual, but I also don't need to be religious. I'm not somebody who's like, you know, Bible belting or Torah slapping or whatever, you know, I'm not like that. I have an incredible Muslim fan base too, and incredible, beautiful people that look at my work with, with refugees that kind of goes across every border, especially in the Middle East. And they see the work that I'm trying to do there and the awareness I'm trying to build there for UNHCR. And, and then I also have just like a great, I mean, if I run, this last film I did is actually, um, it's a Christian thriller.

• 23:35Keke Palmer?

Yes, girl, and, and those are the ones that scare me the most.

• 23:38Speaker 01

  What do you mean?

• 23:39Keke Palmer?

Because I'm like, now wait a minute, what's gonna happen? Because if this is dealing with God, they gotta win in here. Because I'mma just, I'mma rebuke it.

• 23:46Speaker 01

Not you trying to give away the story.

• 23:48Keke Palmer?

  I'mma rebuke it.

• 23:49Speaker 01

  Right.

• 23:50Keke Palmer?

Otherwise, so no, but I live. So, so this is, so wait a minute, how did this project come about?

• 23:55Speaker 01

It's so random. They called me like a week before to film and I was in my Georgia body and vibe.

• 24:06Keke Palmer?

  Come on booty.

• 24:07Speaker 01

  Not ready.

• 24:07Keke Palmer?

I hear booty, I hear booty.

• 24:08Speaker 01

The booty was booting and I was not ready, girl. I was like, they were like, we want you on a plane. I was like, a plane? But what, what, what? They're like, if you respond to this and you really like it, it's an adaptation.

• 24:20Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, yeah, of a book.

• 24:21Speaker 01

  Of the book.

• 24:22Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 24:22Speaker 01

And I was like, alright, let me see, you know, and I was like, well, Lifetime even approaching me for, they must be.

• 24:28Keke Palmer?

  I love Lifetime.

• 24:29Speaker 01

They must be trying to do something different because I'm a little outside of their box. I'm like, are you sure it was for me? I don't know. It seems like a weird choice for them.

• 24:39Keke Palmer?

  No, not at all.

• 24:40Speaker 01

And they, it was me and they, they loved it and they, and I'm executive producing it and they let me do a song for it, so we'll see.

• 24:47Keke Palmer?

Ah, yes. Well, I will definitely be tuning in. I love Lifetime. I love you. So it's like boom. And then, you know, I love a little spirituality, a little scary, but the spirituality must win.

• 24:57Speaker 01

  It must win.

• 24:58Keke Palmer?

It must win. Now, again, I was, when I was reading up, I'm like, you get up in the morning at 4 a.m. and you meditate. But I live for that.

• 25:07Speaker 01

  Sometimes.

• 25:08Keke Palmer?

When did you get into like meditation and stuff like that? Because I like meditation. I like yoga. I like Pilates. Any practice that allows me to zone out.

• 25:15Speaker 01

You're pretty zen, girl. I mean, you have so much energy and you're so funny and you're so like dynamic. But you have this kind of like, you're super grounded.

• 25:25Keke Palmer?

Girl, I be trying to keep them feet on, what is it? Boots on the ground would be honest to say, literally.

• 25:29Speaker 01

And you got a little one, so that's probably really hard to kind of keep a, keep a schedule of self-care.

• 25:34Keke Palmer?

That's why when I heard that, I love that because even if it's as early as 4 a.m., you have to have a moment to take time to yourself. Whether you're meditating or just you, you look at yourself in the mirror or whatever it is. Because I used to find that when I started my day with my job, I felt really pissed and annoyed. Like, why does my life begin and end when I'm going to work?

• 25:53Speaker 01

  Right.

• 25:53Keke Palmer?

So that meant I need to try to. Get to sleep a little bit earlier.

• 25:55Speaker 01

  It's true.

• 25:56Keke Palmer?

And wake up a little bit earlier. So that I can have at least an hour or something, a ritual to myself. So when I heard that, I was thinking to myself, well, she must feel similarly.

• 26:06Speaker 01

I do, but do you, when you're producing things like this, like, do you build that into your schedule?

• 26:11Keke Palmer?

Yes, I build it into my schedule, yeah. So usually, like, for our show, like, you know, I mean, in a perfect world, it doesn't happen every time, but in a perfect world, I'd love for everything to start around seven or eight. So at least I can wake up at six. I can do waking up at six. Because if I go to bed at ten, I'm gonna get a good amount of hours of sleep. But obviously, sometimes you have to fluctuate. I just feel like as I've gotten older, I've realized the importance of that time.

• 26:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:34Keke Palmer?

To myself and as a mom.

• 26:35Speaker 01

  So important.

• 26:36Keke Palmer?

It's like, I want to spend time with my son, I want to do my job, but I also want to spend time with me. Like, I don't know about you, but I like me.

• 26:42Speaker 01

Absolute, oh, I love me, some me.

• 26:44Keke Palmer?

I never get no time with her ass, though.

• 26:46Speaker 01

I know, I get it. I get it, babe, I get it.

• 26:50Keke Palmer?

It's like, we don't never get no time with she.

• 26:52Speaker 01

So it seems like, you know, here I go interviewing you, let me, hold on. No, I know, I love these questions, but I, you know, this is also, you know, for the audience that doesn't get to ask these questions to Kiki, let me ask it for y'all, let me ask it. So when you, because you seem like everything is a hundred percent.

• 27:06Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 27:07Speaker 01

I've not seen you do nothing at fifty, twenty percent my whole life.

• 27:13Speaker 01

My looking back, so even your mommy-ing is a hundred percent. So how are you building, how are you showing up a hundred percent for every single thing and nothing gets compromised?

• 27:26Keke Palmer?

I mean, I think the things get compromised, I think a lot of times the things that get compromised, this is sad, it's gonna sound so typical, I feel like I'm, like, get ready to start the movie or the rom-com. But the things that get a little bit compromised are myself, my personal time, and my love life. You know, it ends up being like, no time for that, no time for that. Um, I've gotten better with the me time.

• 27:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:47Keke Palmer?

Um, but, I mean, I will be honest, that it's all math. And becoming a mom has made it better for me, easier for me, to make the time. Like, I think before I used to have a hard time saying no about things, you know, I would be just so in the flow of the run of it.

• 28:02Speaker 01

  We have better boundaries.

• 28:03Keke Palmer?

Better boundaries, because if I can't say no for me, I can say no for Leo. And then over the course of saying no for Leo, that's my son's name, over the course of saying no for Leo.

• 28:13Speaker 01

Everybody know Leo, everybody know little Leo.

• 28:15Keke Palmer?

  It got easy for.

• 28:17Keke Palmer?

It got easier to say no for me. So I'm getting better at it, but things I I

• 28:21Speaker 01

So I just need a baby.

• 28:23Keke Palmer?

  Girl, the babies help.

• 28:24Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 28:24Keke Palmer?

They help, I mean, if you want a baby, right?

• 28:26Speaker 01

  I definitely want a baby.

• 28:27Keke Palmer?

You can also get a little baby dog.

• 28:29Speaker 01

I got one, it's here, it's in the room.

• 28:32Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my gosh, you see?

• 28:34Speaker 01

  I know.

• 28:35Keke Palmer?

  Them fur babies are real.

• 28:36Speaker 01

  They're so real.

• 28:37Keke Palmer?

It's like this baby came out of me.

• 28:38Speaker 01

  I know.

• 28:39Keke Palmer?

Um, now, let's, now, speaking of my love life, you're married.

• 28:43Speaker 01

  I'm married.

• 28:44Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, this is so amazing, congratulations.

• 28:46Speaker 01

We're finally doing the wedding, we haven't done the wedding.

• 28:48Keke Palmer?

I remember you saying you guys were gonna, so you already are planning, that was one of my questions.

• 28:50Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, planning it in a, in a couple of months, we're finally doing it. Um, I'm excited, I'm like, wow.

• 28:56Keke Palmer?

Did you always want to get married, or were you kind of like, if it happens, it happens, like?

• 28:59Speaker 01

Yeah, I didn't really care, I'm not like a romantic person.

• 29:02Keke Palmer?

I was about to say, you, I was about to say, you feel very eccentric, like, hey, who cares, love is love, wherever I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go.

• 29:08Speaker 01

Thank you, I have exactly that, I don't care.

• 29:10Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 29:10Speaker 01

Um, no, it just happened, Bryn and I were friends for ta, uh, ten years in my mind, I was graduating. No, in five years, five years platonic, though. Like, the most, didn't hold hands, didn't hug, nothing. We had a wellness company that, um, ended up closing, and then we had to kind of wrap everything up. And he was single, I was single, within two months, we ju, I mean, we dated, and then we got married after two months, like, crazy people.

• 29:37Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my god.

• 29:38Speaker 01

But it was great, it's great, he teaches breathwork and meditation.

• 29:40Keke Palmer?

  When you know, you know.

• 29:42Speaker 01

  It's so real.

• 29:44Keke Palmer?

  That's real.

• 29:45Speaker 01

It's so real, and I was engaged before him.

• 29:47Keke Palmer?

  A period.

• 29:47Speaker 01

  Like, twice.

• 29:49Keke Palmer?

Couple people tried to put a ring on.

• 29:49Speaker 01

  Oh, my, I'm a like, I'm a runaway fiance, for sure. I'm a reputation.

• 29:54Keke Palmer?

Oh, wait a minute, this makes me think of another thing to ask you, because you are so gorgeous, I think a lot of times, I've heard Halle Berry speak about it as well, was that difficult in this industry where people don't want you to be as deep as you are, they kind of are looking at you from the surface?

• 30:08Speaker 01

Well, I know what I look like at two in the morning, girl, they look, I don't look like this.

• 30:14Speaker 01

I don't look like this, no.

• 30:16Keke Palmer?

So you're like, for me, no?

• 30:17Speaker 01

For me, no, maybe for you, uh, no, I look crazy, girl, I look, no, I don't, mm-mm.

• 30:22Keke Palmer?

I feel like with women, a lot of times, it can be difficult where, especially when we have big personalities or do so many different things, people are like, hey, what's going on, just, just, just, just sit and, and be cute, and it's like, no, no, no, I have an opinion or a thought or something to say.

• 30:35Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 30:36Keke Palmer?

  Um, so, yeah, I feel.

• 30:37Speaker 01

I felt a little bit of that.

• 30:37Keke Palmer?

You know what I mean, where it's like, I, I'm not, I can't just be, uh, Whatever you're thinking I should be playing.

• 30:43Speaker 01

  We're not just pretty faces.

• 30:44Keke Palmer?

Yeah, I have so much more that I want to say.

• 30:47Speaker 01

  Right.

• 30:47Keke Palmer?

But anyway, going back to that, you has had a private wedding. You're getting ready to plan the current wedding. Is it gonna be away wedding? Are you gonna be in town in Georgia?

• 30:55Speaker 01

Uh, it's gonna be in California.

• 30:56Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 30:57Speaker 01

You know, intimate, like 200 people.

• 31:01Keke Palmer?

  That's huge.

• 31:01Speaker 01

No, it's, it's great. It's my godmother's place and she, um, she had lost, um, her son and her husband. And I lost my mom and my brother. So we kind of.

• 31:13Keke Palmer?

  And your brother?

• 31:14Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm. I lost my brother in 2021.

• 31:16Keke Palmer?

  I'm so sorry about that.

• 31:17Speaker 01

It's alright. I mean, you know, so he, we kind of bonded over this, these weird losses that we had that, she became my, you know, she's been my soul mom for like six years and, um.

• 31:29Keke Palmer?

  God bless her.

• 31:30Speaker 01

Yeah, and so she's like walking me down the aisle and, you know, but I know that my, you know, everyone.

• 31:37Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 31:37Speaker 01

  Will be there.

• 31:38Keke Palmer?

I mean, how has that been, you know, with your mom passing? I know she was very close to you. Like you said, you were raised as a single, by a single mother.

• 31:44Speaker 01

  My single mom.

• 31:45Keke Palmer?

What, maybe even bringing it up to, to a joyful note, what are the things that you see the most in you that remind you of her now?

• 31:54Speaker 01

My mom didn't really have a filter. And I think from what I remember about your mom, who's always very close.

• 32:02Keke Palmer?

She's watching in the other room. She's definitely here. She is here.

• 32:06Speaker 01

From what I remember about your mom, your mom really stayed close to you as well. You know, the auditions and, you know, on set. Yeah, and, and, you know, just, just quiet strength.

• 32:18Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 32:18Speaker 01

Um, I'm much more sillier than my mom. My mom was very, um, quiet.

• 32:23Keke Palmer?

  I'm actually the same.

• 32:24Speaker 01

  Really?

• 32:24Keke Palmer?

My mom is not really silly. She's like brute.

• 32:27Speaker 01

  Right. Let's get it done.

• 32:28Keke Palmer?

  Don't play.

• 32:29Speaker 01

Right, right. She was always very close. Um, what is one thing about me that I think my mom, I don't know, I guess she was just pretty, trying to be kind to everybody.

• 32:40Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 32:40Speaker 01

  You know?

• 32:41Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 32:41Speaker 01

And just to keep going. And she also would kind of treat my wins like they weren't big deals, which I know it sounds really crazy coming out of my mouth, but.

• 32:49Keke Palmer?

But she kind of kept it grounded.

• 32:50Speaker 01

She accept, she, she expected it. She's like, of course you have a hit movie. Of course they want to work with you. Of course you're hanging out with Kiki. I'm surprised you don't hang out with, you know what I mean? Like, I think she would just kind of expect that greatness. Like, when you get your awards, I'm sure your mom's gonna be like, of course you did it.

• 33:07Keke Palmer?

I have the same kind of mom.

• 33:09Speaker 01

Yeah, of course you did it. You're Keke Palmer.

• 33:11Keke Palmer?

Like, Kiki, the cream always rises to the top.

• 33:13Speaker 01

  Right.

• 33:14Keke Palmer?

  You're the cream.

• 33:15Speaker 01

You do the work. You're the cream.

• 33:16Keke Palmer?

No, exactly. I love that. No, that's so, that's so real. But I think that's why we're probably so like, who cares? I'm doing whatever the hell I want.

• 33:25Speaker 01

I'm doing what I want, because I'm gonna win anyways.

• 33:27Keke Palmer?

  That's right.

• 33:28Speaker 01

You know what I mean? You can't tell me I'm not gonna win.

• 33:30Keke Palmer?

There is literally, it is priceless to have mothers that believe in you in that way. It really is. There's nothing, who, who, all I can thank is God for that. Because what did I do to deserve it? You know what I mean? It's just something that I was blessed with.

• 33:43Speaker 01

Right. We had really, have really great moms. And you know what? When we're 80 and we look the same.

• 33:49Keke Palmer?

Because we need that looking the same.

• 33:51Speaker 01

  You don't.

• 33:52Keke Palmer?

  We have to.

• 33:53Speaker 01

Black, don't cry. So when we 80 and we looking the same, you know, you really, especially for me having had these losses and having to, and losses from people that I took real advice from. People that I'd have conversations with, people that I've lived with. The, the, the, the Princes and the Quincy's and my brother and my mom and, and, and my friends, just people that I've lost. You, you, you allow them to guide you on this journey. Because there is something that I believe exists where the universe, God, gives you permission to really make an impact on the world. But you have to be in alignment.

• 34:37Speaker 01

  You gotta be in alignment.

• 34:39Keke Palmer?

And it's like a practice, you know what I mean? And it doesn't mean when you're out of alignment, oh my gosh, it's the end of the world. Because you can get back into flow.

• 34:44Speaker 01

Oh, I get out of alignment plenty.

• 34:46Keke Palmer?

You know what I'm saying? It's like going to the chiropractor.

• 34:48Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 34:49Keke Palmer?

Hook me back up, God. And then once you get back in that flow, it really is, it's like when they say like going upstream is tough, but like when you're going downstream, it's just like, there's this ease.

• 34:58Speaker 01

Right. So you allow yourself to kind of be almost influenced by them from like, you know, another space and time. And, you know, I still hear Q giving me, you know, all his advice and, you know, Prince trying to boss me around about something or other. And, you know, you ain't gonna wear that and don't wear ripped jeans and all the things. I'm howling. Yeah.

• 35:18Keke Palmer?

Now, obviously, I know we're talking about you're married now. But before, I'm curious, because your husband's not in the industry. Did you date in the industry, or were you resistant to that? Like, what were your non-negotiables in terms of dating in the public eye?

• 35:30Speaker 01

I don't even think like that, girl. I do everything wrong.

• 35:39Keke Palmer?

Remember when Paris and Nicole had to learn about the simple life? Well, I just found it's perfect opposite in Rich Girl Summer, the new Audible original that had me cancelling all my plans just to keep listening. Uh, here's the tea. Valerie, this down-on-her-luck event planner, finds herself pretending to be a socialite's long-lost daughter up in Toronto's fancy cottage country. But baby, between uncovering family secrets and falling for the impossibly handsome family assistant Nico, she's about to learn that some summers change everything. And when I tell you the narration is everything, Hamilton's Philippa Sue brings this romance to life in a way that'll have you swooning poolside, beachside, or wherever your summer takes you. I was absolutely in over my head with this one, just like Valerie, and loving every minute of it.

• 36:34Speaker 01

To be clear, I have not done one thing right in my personal life, ever.

• 36:40Keke Palmer?

  How unverbal of you.

• 36:41Speaker 01

Like, they say, "Don't sleep with somebody on the first date." Girl, I've been done that. Like, what are you talking about? Like, oh, I'm already out of the category.

• 36:48Keke Palmer?

But I hate the gender rules, so do whatever the hell you want.

• 36:50Speaker 01

There's a lot of gender rules, and I don't think I've done any of them. They're like, you know, "Don't eat, you know, messy food on the first date."

• 36:57Keke Palmer?

  Me the same, girl.

• 36:58Speaker 01

"I'm just like, eat nachos," you know? I don't have...

• 37:00Keke Palmer?

  Same.

• 37:01Speaker 01

I've done everything backwards. I wish I knew how to do it right, or what the right...

• 37:06Keke Palmer?

I don't want to do it right.

• 37:07Speaker 01

...thing is. In fact, I actually... Getting married was not necessarily... We didn't necessarily plan it. He was, Brian was complaining that I was just kind of a terrible girlfriend. And I said, "Well, let's fix this then." And I said, "Well..."

• 37:20Keke Palmer?

  I'ma fix your ass.

• 37:21Speaker 01

"Let's fix this then. I got a nice Virgo plan for you. We gonna be friends or we gonna be married? Because I'm a terrible girlfriend and I'm clearly, I don't have a good run with being engaged. I'm a terrible fiance. So let's just be friends or be married, because I'm not gonna do..." And I thought he was gonna be like, "All right, let's just be friends."

• 37:38Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my gosh. I live.

• 37:40Speaker 01

  And we got married.

• 37:41Keke Palmer?

  I live.

• 37:42Speaker 01

  That's what is not romantic.

• 37:43Keke Palmer?

No, but it's doing it your way.

• 37:45Speaker 01

I did it my way, and that's how you have to do it.

• 37:47Keke Palmer?

  You do.

• 37:48Speaker 01

Because you'll find your match being exactly who you are. Don't have to hide nothing about yourself. All your silly things, all your quirky things, even when you got a little bit of a temper, even if they piss you off. You don't gotta hide nothing. You get to show your full self. And you know what? The right person will stay.

• 38:07Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh. My mom always would say that growing up. And she would definitely, I would be like, "Mom, you're mean to dad." Girl, forget about it. He's fine with it. If Larry likes it, you love it. I'm like, "Sharon, you're not being even nice to Larry." And Larry's over there like, "Sharon's my baby."

• 38:21Speaker 01

  You know what?

• 38:22Keke Palmer?

  And I love Sharon.

• 38:22Speaker 01

  You know Larry love it.

• 38:23Keke Palmer?

Larry loves Sharon and Sharon loves Larry.

• 38:25Speaker 01

  I love it.

• 38:26Keke Palmer?

But it's exactly what you're describing, where it's like, to other people that are looking at it and don't know nothing.

• 38:30Speaker 01

No, but they're perfect for each other.

• 38:31Keke Palmer?

  They're perfect for each other.

• 38:31Speaker 01

  They're perfect for each other.

• 38:33Keke Palmer?

  What is your love language?

• 38:36Speaker 01

  Um, mine is physical touch.

• 38:39Keke Palmer?

Is it? I can't keep my hands to myself.

• 38:42Speaker 01

Um, mine, I don't wanna say food. That's the honest thing I'm thinking about. Don't say food, Kat. Do not say food is your love language.

• 38:49Keke Palmer?

But it's a lot of us love languages.

• 38:51Speaker 01

  I love cooking.

• 38:53Keke Palmer?

Girl, so I was gonna ask that too, because tell me, do you be watching all the cooking stuff online or do you be actually cooking? Because sometimes I just watch the videos.

• 38:59Speaker 01

I be cooking. I be getting down.

• 39:01Keke Palmer?

What is your "don't play with me" meal?

• 39:03Speaker 01

Oh, well, I have a menu, girl.

• 39:05Keke Palmer?

  Girl, you are so Virgo.

• 39:07Speaker 01

  I'm sorry, I have a whole menu.

• 39:10Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, so set me up. I'm coming to your house for dinner.

• 39:12Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 39:13Keke Palmer?

You know, I told you to take over. I want to eat a cat meal.

• 39:16Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 39:16Keke Palmer?

  Meals with cats.

• 39:17Speaker 01

Okay, let me do it. One time I got into a huge fight with Bryant because I spent two hours on a Hamachi crudo. Let me tell you something, it was so bomb. No, I don't have no regrets. Um, I guess I would, oh, what would I, what would I make you? I would make you, I guess, um, Brussels sprouts. I'd make you, um, Bryant calls me my sludgy gnocchi because I make it for everybody, but I'm gonna make it for you. And it's a sweet potato gnocchi in a sage butter sauce. It is so bomb. I would make you, um, pistachio, uh, crusted lamb over, uh, over a delicious, like, couscous. I just, I can go, I can go in.

• 39:50Keke Palmer?

  Girl, are you kidding me?

• 39:51Speaker 01

No, honestly, I'm a better cook than I am an actor.

• 39:55Keke Palmer?

No, that's just one other thing now that we know you're good at. You did, this is like your long list?

• 39:59Speaker 01

But I'm, the only thing I'm cocky about is my cooking. I feel like, you're probably gonna correct me, like, no, girl, you're not that humble. No, but... I feel like I am a very, a pretty humble person as an artist.

• 40:14Keke Palmer?

  You are.

• 40:15Speaker 01

I will, you know, wait my turn, but as a cook, nobody tell me nothing. I am the best. I'm the best. I am the best.

• 40:24Keke Palmer?

I'd say you're a pretty humble chef, too.

• 40:28Keke Palmer?

One more thing, though. You're on tour. You just came off tour.

• 40:30Speaker 01

I don't know what I'm doing. I'm always on, doing something.

• 40:32Keke Palmer?

You would never tell me you were doing a global tour. You did Barcelona, New Orleans, UK. You've been to a couple of places.

• 40:39Speaker 01

Yeah, I know my next, I know my next show is in Chicago.

• 40:42Keke Palmer?

My city. Do you have a favorite place to perform?

• 40:45Speaker 01

I, I did this one show for, I think it was Pandora, and I did crowd surfing, um, on the Azores Islands.

• 40:53Keke Palmer?

I was just talking to somebody about the crowd surfing. Was it good or were people like squeezing your booty and stuff?

• 40:58Speaker 01

  Ah, no.

• 40:59Keke Palmer?

Because that's what scares me with that. Like, is somebody gonna put their hands on my gooch?

• 41:03Speaker 01

No, they're not gonna do that. This is your fans. We got you. I know everybody ready to hold Kiki Palmero.

• 41:10Keke Palmer?

I don't want to grab my booty.

• 41:11Speaker 01

  No. Humble. So humble.

• 41:16Keke Palmer?

  So it was amazing.

• 41:18Speaker 01

  No, it was amazing.

• 41:19Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my god.

• 41:20Speaker 01

I love it. I love performing. I really love it.

• 41:22Keke Palmer?

I mean, you're incredible. And I remember, I don't remember what visual of yours that I saw, what year it was. It had to be like, between 2012, 2016, a project that you had came out. And that's when I really got into, because I think I always knew you did music, but I also really knew you more with acting. But then, when I seen that project, I was like, oh, she's really dope for real. You know what I mean? Like, just seeing those, when you can see those different sides of people. It really, I mean, again, back in the day, day, day, when we think MGM, Vaudeville, or even just Broadway. Everybody was doing a bunch of things.

• 41:53Speaker 01

  Right.

• 41:53Keke Palmer?

When I feel like in our generation, for whatever reason, it was like, only you, if you're an actor, only you act. If you're a singer, only you sing. And I feel like, you know, myself, you, when I think about Donald Glover, when I think about Queen Latifah, like, I mean,

• 42:06Speaker 01

Right, everybody was doing it all.

• 42:07Keke Palmer?

Ice Cube, you know, it's like, just do everything.

• 42:09Speaker 01

  Do everything, if you can.

• 42:10Keke Palmer?

If you can, why not? You know, and it's fun. It's fun to have different mediums to express your conversation with yourself and to society.

• 42:18Speaker 01

Can we talk a little bit about the visual album?

• 42:20Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, let's get into it.

• 42:21Speaker 01

I just, I'm just curious, like, why did you decide to do a visual album versus just dropping a record?

• 42:29Keke Palmer?

Well, I started doing the visual albums with my Lauren EP.

• 42:32Speaker 01

When did you start? When did you decide?

• 42:34Keke Palmer?

  Twenty sixteen, seventeen?

• 42:37Speaker 01

This is when you decided to start working on a visual album?

• 42:40Keke Palmer?

To start doing visual albums. So this is my third visual project. So I did the first one, I think in 2016, I hope that it was the Lauren EP. That was like a very smaller kind of visual. It was like five songs or so. Then I did my first big one, Big Boss, in 2022.

• 42:55Speaker 01

  Right.

• 42:55Keke Palmer?

But I think by the time I did Big Boss, I had realized and decided, this is the way I do music. Because you know, again, for us, like, you know, you sign to a record label, you know, they have a particular way that they want to do things. There's no artist development. Everybody's trying to fit you in a box.

• 43:11Speaker 01

  Right.

• 43:11Keke Palmer?

I've just always been a multi-hyphenate person, and my artistry always came in a very... And a narrative package. There's, there's conversation that I'm trying to say, and I'm a visual artist.

• 43:21Speaker 01

  Right.

• 43:22Keke Palmer?

So I think after I did, you know, I did Lorne EP, that was like, okay, got my feet wet with it. And then by the time I did Big Boss, I was like, this is the only way I really want to do albums.

• 43:30Speaker 01

  Right.

• 43:30Keke Palmer?

Because for me, it's not just about the album, it's about, this is the statement that I'm making in this moment, in this era, in this conversation with self, that I'm saying and opening my audience up to.

• 43:42Speaker 01

And why did, Confessions is a single, right?

• 43:43Keke Palmer?

Yep, Confessions is a single, um, 125 is a single, and then Off Script.

• 43:47Speaker 01

So why did you pick Confessions?

• 43:49Keke Palmer?

  So Confessions was-

• 43:50Speaker 01

Sorry, I know this is not my-

• 43:51Keke Palmer?

  I know, this is so-

• 43:52Speaker 01

  I don't care, y'all, I get to interview you, I'm curious.

• 43:56Keke Palmer?

So Confessions was like the inciting incident, right? It was like the, it was, it kind of put in many ways, like the, this was the crumble, or the glitch in the product. You know, because Keke Palmer is a person, like, you know, people know me to be very professional, like, when all that stuff-

• 44:11Speaker 01

Right, I was, I was amazed at like, some of the lyrics that you were like, opening up about, like-

• 44:17Keke Palmer?

Yeah, I was amazed too. I think that the whole situation, I was, I was amazed too, because I never knew I could get this deep with my audience, but that was because I never got that deep with myself yet. Um, and so, over that experience, that's what happened. And so, when I'm telling, when I was telling the story, or deciding how to tell the story, leading my audience up to the visual album, it's like, okay, the inciting incident. And we kind of had 125 out a little bit, which, uh, is kind of like the, the love and the romance, then the inciting incident, and then where we are now, which is Off Script. And then Off Script kind of starts at, how the hell did I get here? And then you go through the journey of how I kind of have now evolved from even that space. So it's kind of, again, me, like, obviously the, the relationship is a big part of it,

• 45:02Keke Palmer?

because it was a big part, you know, my relationship with my son was a big chapter of this time in my life. But it's also about, you know, integration and fragmentation as a, as a person. And the interesting role that love can play, even if it doesn't last forever, but the interesting love role that love can play, and bringing back, bringing you back to places that you didn't even know you still needed to heal, within yourself. Because as an entertainer, there's also that thing of just like, can I become who I want to be? You know, or am I just supposed to live as this product? Or who is it that I do want to be, and what influences our mind or the ones around me? I think I, I went through a lot of that. And performing wasn't just-

• 45:42Keke Palmer?

Or I should say, it was enjoyable, but a lot of times it was survival until it became intention. And so that is also about ownership.

• 45:51Speaker 01

  Ownership.

• 45:51Keke Palmer?

And owning of one's narrative. So there was a lot of, and again, when I was getting ready to do this album, it took a second because I'm like, my manager, you know Billy.

• 46:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:01Keke Palmer?

Billy was like, when are we gonna do, because after Big Boss, he's like, when are we gonna do, I was like, I don't know what the hell I'm gonna say. I mean, you know, you need a second to ruminate.

• 46:07Speaker 01

Were you, were you doing it before the films or like, when?

• 46:11Keke Palmer?

So I actually did it during the films.

• 46:12Speaker 01

  Are there two of you?

• 46:14Keke Palmer?

  So.

• 46:15Speaker 01

We should maybe cut the camera.

• 46:16Keke Palmer?

You're actually looking at one now. You're actually looking at one now. This is that AI they've been talking about, no. Yeah, I was doing it during work. I was doing it during this Bruce Riley movie that I was doing called I Love Boosters. And so, yeah, on the weekend and like after some shoot days, I will be working on this project with Taylor.

• 46:34Speaker 01

  So wild.

• 46:35Keke Palmer?

Girl, you know how it is. Gotta get it.

• 46:37Speaker 01

  I don't know like that. I mean, I don't, I don't know. That's just, it's just.

• 46:43Keke Palmer?

I'm so glad you checked it out.

• 46:45Speaker 01

  Oh, I, yes, dope.

• 46:47Keke Palmer?

  My girl.

• 46:47Speaker 01

I mean, you, you didn't really warn nobody though. I was like, oh my God, a visual album. There's just so much that you're doing this year.

• 46:55Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh.

• 46:56Speaker 01

And, and if you're not, and if we aren't focusing on the film or the record or whatever, you're, you're running everything viral on everything. You can't even go out to dinner and not go viral.

• 47:07Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh.

• 47:07Speaker 01

  What's your problem?

• 47:10Keke Palmer?

  You really make me blush.

• 47:12Speaker 01

That is true. We all feel that way.

• 47:14Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh. Well, it's just a blessing. And I'm sure you know, like doing this, being in this industry for so long.

• 47:19Speaker 01

  So long.

• 47:19Keke Palmer?

You're just happy for the tides, any of the tides. You know what I mean? Whether they're up, they're down, they're in between, just glad to be doing work that I'm excited about. Okay, 2026, I am very excited for this Michael Jackson biopic where you play Diana Ross, girl.

• 47:36Speaker 01

  I know, it's very fun.

• 47:38Keke Palmer?

  So exciting.

• 47:38Speaker 01

  It was very.

• 47:39Keke Palmer?

So tell me about the set vibes. Tell me about the recreating these incredible moments. I mean, obviously Jafar, Jafar is playing Michael.

• 47:46Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 47:47Keke Palmer?

Um, so walk me through this.

• 47:48Speaker 01

Perfection as Michael. I'm not allowed to really talk about it.

• 47:51Keke Palmer?

  Come on, hush, hush.

• 47:52Speaker 01

  Come on.

• 47:53Keke Palmer?

  We love a hush, hush.

• 47:54Speaker 01

We love a hush, hush. Um, gosh. Well, first of all. Nia Long is the bomb.com.

• 48:00Keke Palmer?

  She is.

• 48:01Speaker 01

I mean, even though it wasn't all my hair.

• 48:06Speaker 01

Sometimes, you know, I had a little bit of my own hair in the front. You know, and then the rest was big, but it was my texture, which was nice. And it was the first film I ever did where I was like rocking my texture. Um, I don't want to give too much away. What do I say? Well, how was it, um, how did you feel? Antoine Fuqua was the director. He's brilliant. So he's like, you know, he's, he's amazing. It felt surreal. Yeah, right? It also felt surreal because they had Quincy Jones' character in, in some of the scenes, and that's played by my boy Kendrick Sampson. And it was, when I was filming it, it was when Q was still alive. So I got to kind of share some stuff that we were doing and all that with him and... Did you get a chance to meet Diana or have you met her before in the past? I think I had met...

• 48:51Speaker 01

I know you probably know Evan in Tracy. Everybody knows Evan. Yeah, everybody knows Evan. Um... Hey Evan? I, it was, happened so quick. I didn't think I was gonna get it. And I kind of just, I was like, ain't nobody gonna hire me to play Diana Ross. Why wouldn't they? I don't know. I just... Of course they would hire you to play that. Of course they would. You're Cat Grant, of course they would. Um, I don't know. I just didn't think much of it. I, you know, I did my job and, you know, I just kind of, for the audition and I remember just, I think I was like smoking a little cigarrio and had a little, uh, had a little apple juice box and wasn't even taking nothing seriously. I was like, I'm just gonna, because my agents were like, you need to do the tape. You need to do this audition. But don't you feel like any time that we've overdone the tape, we didn't get the role? A- absolutely. When we didn't give a [BLEEP] about the tape?

• 49:36Speaker 01

I was like, I was like, fine, I'll just do the meeting so y'all will get off my back. And I did it not caring. Hair was wild. And, and then the next day, I had a meeting with, um, Antoine Fuqua. And then he offered me the, the, the role in real time on the Zoom. And then I remember Evan, Evan Haney, my manager called me and he's, he's so cool. He's, Evan's cool as a cucumber. He was like... Hey, so they want you for the role of Diana Ross. Say, "Hold on, Evan, hold on." And I like ran through the house. I was like, "Bryant, Bryant." Pops, because at the time Bryant's dad was living with us. "Pops, pop." You know, I turned into a little kid. And I was like, "Evan, say it again, say it again." And he's like, "You got the role."

• 50:19Speaker 01

And then I remember Bryant and I ran out into our pool and jumped into the pool fully clothed.

• 50:25Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 50:27Speaker 01

So that I can, I can share with you. The stupid, silly stories about it.

• 50:31Keke Palmer?

That is so exciting. The feeling of getting a role that you actually wanted is like, it, it can never be underplayed.

• 50:37Speaker 01

And you know what's funny? Is that there's something about, and I can't wait for your biopic when that comes. I know, I know, I know there's seedlings of it.

• 50:45Keke Palmer?

  Girl, stop.

• 50:45Speaker 01

I know there's gotta be someone and, and some script and some people that are smart enough to see you in some. But, uh, you know, with biopics, especially for iconic black women who helped shape the narrative, helped shaped history, right?

• 51:01Keke Palmer?

I mean, to be a pop icon and to be a black pop icon.

• 51:05Speaker 01

  Right.

• 51:06Keke Palmer?

I mean, like Diana Ross, I mean, she gave the blueprint.

• 51:08Speaker 01

Right, and you think about the Supremes and how they had to show up.

• 51:12Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 51:13Speaker 01

You know, graceful and elegant at a time where there was so much colorism. They, yeah, even the music that they made. And, you know, at the time with like, everything from like the Detroit riots and all of this, you know, civil unrest and all the things that they were doing and creating while that was happening in this country.

• 51:32Keke Palmer?

  Yep.

• 51:32Speaker 01

And then to be able to play a woman like that, like, I don't take it lightly.

• 51:36Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 51:37Speaker 01

Um, there is, you know, I think it was Nina Simone that said, "An artist's duty is to tell," and I'm paraphrasing, "but to tell the story of the times."

• 51:52Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 51:52Speaker 01

And, and, I mean, these women did that.

• 51:56Keke Palmer?

I couldn't agree with you more.

• 51:57Speaker 01

  In spades, right?

• 51:58Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 51:58Speaker 01

  So.

• 51:59Keke Palmer?

I love that. I love that you love quotes. I love quotes as well.

• 52:02Speaker 01

  I only know two.

• 52:04Keke Palmer?

You named like literally, you literally named three, three or four.

• 52:06Speaker 01

I've used them in this interview. That's it. I don't know no more. I literally love quotes. So I'm like, every last one you're saying, I'm like, I need to look up some more Nina Simone quotes, because she was eating. That's it. That's all. I only know one.

• 52:19Keke Palmer?

Okay, are you ready to play a game?

• 52:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:20Keke Palmer?

Okay, I play games with all of my guests. I'm so sad that you're already leaving, but I'm excited to play this.

• 52:25Speaker 01

You're booked and busy, girl. I gotta get me out of this chair. I gotta get somebody else in here.

• 52:28Keke Palmer?

Okay, so here's how it works. I'm gonna say a line, a scenario, and you're gonna tell me which zodiac, because you know, we're into the zodiacs.

• 52:34Speaker 01

  Right, we are.

• 52:35Keke Palmer?

So you're gonna tell me which sign is the best for it, and which sign is the worst for it.

• 52:39Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 52:39Keke Palmer?

  Are you ready?

• 52:40Speaker 01

  Okay, I'm ready.

• 52:40Keke Palmer?

Okay, here we go. Which sign throws the best birthday party, and which one doesn't even show up to their own?

• 52:47Speaker 01

A sign that would throw the best birthday party, I think, um, Capricorns can get down. I think. Um, someone that wouldn't show up. Hmm, Aries.

• 53:01Keke Palmer?

If you got on the Aries nerve enough, they definitely would leave.

• 53:04Speaker 01

  I think so.

• 53:05Keke Palmer?

  Sure.

• 53:06Speaker 01

  I think so.

• 53:06Keke Palmer?

Because they don't have too much patience for the bull.

• 53:08Speaker 01

I've dated a couple of Geminis. I think they would, you know, they might decide to be less.

• 53:11Keke Palmer?

Either they would be the life of the party, or they would be like.

• 53:13Speaker 01

Exactly. What do you think about that?

• 53:15Keke Palmer?

I would say the sign that throws the best birthday party is a Virgo.

• 53:19Speaker 01

Okay, okay. I wasn't gonna say myself, because I'm trying to be humble. I'm trying to be humble.

• 53:23Keke Palmer?

Because your Virgos love to be modest.

• 53:25Speaker 01

  Right.

• 53:25Keke Palmer?

So I seen what you was doing with that. But the worst one, or the one that wouldn't show up to their own, I mean, depending on they mood. A Cancer might not arrive.

• 53:40Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 53:42Keke Palmer?

They might be like, I'm too over y'all. Yeah. I'm too over y'all, and I don't want to cuss nobody out.

• 53:48Speaker 01

  Right, I'm in my feelings.

• 53:49Keke Palmer?

I'm in my feelings, so. Okay, best sign for relationship material.

• 53:54Speaker 01

Oh, it depends on the sign, though. Is it me as a Virgo?

• 53:56Keke Palmer?

No, it's whatever, which sign, whatever sign.

• 53:58Speaker 01

  Not that Virgo would be.

• 53:59Keke Palmer?

Give it to me, yeah, right. The best sign to you. Well, you know what?

• 54:02Speaker 01

Well, best, best sign, I think.

• 54:05Keke Palmer?

And then worst one. Per situation ships that last too long.

• 54:09Speaker 01

That's tough because somebody might be a perfect sign. Like I know that for me, a perfect sign is like Bryant as a Sagittarius is perfect for me.

• 54:19Keke Palmer?

Sagittarius is so fun. They're perfect for everybody.

• 54:22Speaker 01

  Fun, I don't know.

• 54:24Keke Palmer?

Yeah, some people do. I have been seeing a lot of like bad press for the Sagittarius's. I don't know what happened.

• 54:29Speaker 01

I think, I think Leos could be good, but also terrible.

• 54:33Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, you sound like you have some Libra in your chart with all this indecisive.

• 54:36Speaker 01

Libras are the best. Let's just say that. Libras are the best. They're fair, they're level headed.

• 54:40Keke Palmer?

They are. I have Libra in my chart.

• 54:42Speaker 01

Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense.

• 54:45Keke Palmer?

  Who's the worst though? Scorpios.

• 54:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, you know.

• 54:49Keke Palmer?

I love Scorpios real bad. But y'all, y'all will take a situation ship and let it laugh the whole lifetime and then go get married.

• 54:55Speaker 01

Pisces will do that too. Pisces will let you.

• 54:57Keke Palmer?

Pisces are the most lover-est lovers that could find and if they don't love you, it's bad. It's sad.

• 55:04Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 55:04Keke Palmer?

It is, it is because once they done.

• 55:07Speaker 01

  They're done.

• 55:07Keke Palmer?

  They're done.

• 55:08Speaker 01

Yeah, they, they, they're good, but they have terrible communication on the phones and stuff, I think.

• 55:12Keke Palmer?

Okay, best sign to cry to after a breakup and the worst one to call when you're emotional.

• 55:18Speaker 01

Virgo is the worst to call. Do not call us. Do not call us.

• 55:22Keke Palmer?

When I call with Sharon, when I've been hurt over a breakup, I mean, it's not even that deep.

• 55:28Speaker 01

Right, you should have seen this coming.

• 55:29Keke Palmer?

You've got, I mean, at the end of the day, what, I mean, like, let's get up.

• 55:33Speaker 01

  Right.

• 55:33Keke Palmer?

Because you can't stay in a house like this.

• 55:35Speaker 01

  Right.

• 55:35Keke Palmer?

  This is embarrassing.

• 55:36Speaker 01

  Right.

• 55:37Keke Palmer?

You know, I, I know, you said.

• 55:38Speaker 01

I told you to leave that person a, a long time ago and you didn't listen and now look at you.

• 55:42Keke Palmer?

A Virgo will, I told you so to death. It's too much.

• 55:46Speaker 01

  They're waiting for it.

• 55:47Keke Palmer?

  They're waiting to be like.

• 55:48Speaker 01

So I'm glad you agree with that.

• 55:50Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, we're in agreeance.

• 55:51Speaker 01

So what was, what was the alternate?

• 55:52Keke Palmer?

Now, the best one to call and cry to after a breakup. A Leo will yes man you into your grave.

• 55:59Speaker 01

Yeah, but that's not always the best.

• 56:01Keke Palmer?

But it feels good after a breakup. They'll be like, yes, yes, yes, to everything. You know, and you know it's not true.

• 56:09Speaker 01

Gemini women are amazing to speak to.

• 56:11Keke Palmer?

  They are, they are.

• 56:13Speaker 01

  I love a Gemini girl.

• 56:14Keke Palmer?

Yeah, very fun too. Keep it upbeat.

• 56:18Speaker 01

  Keep it upbeat.

• 56:18Keke Palmer?

  Yeah. Okay.

• 56:21Keke Palmer?

Best and worst sign to keep a secret and not put it in a group chat. Virgo is telling somebody. Virgo is telling somebody. Now, we will be conscientious of who we tell.

• 56:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:33Keke Palmer?

  But somebody's finding out.

• 56:35Speaker 01

It is absolutely reviewed in our mind.

• 56:38Keke Palmer?

  The moment you tell me.

• 56:39Speaker 01

Right, before you even finish your sentence.

• 56:41Keke Palmer?

Sharon, I'm on the other line, I have to tell you really quickly.

• 56:44Speaker 01

  Right.

• 56:45Keke Palmer?

Could you believe this? So, so tell me. Yeah, I'ma get on, finish with them.

• 56:48Speaker 01

Yeah, no, Virgo's telling something. Boom, Virgo is telling somebody.

• 56:51Keke Palmer?

Hey, girl, sorry, that was my Uber DoorDash.

• 56:53Speaker 01

Right, and I'm, I live in Georgia, so you know, we don't tell everybody. You know, guy shows up, plumber shows up at the house, we know each other's business the first five minutes. Oh, you know.

• 57:03Keke Palmer?

The first five minutes is taking me out.

• 57:05Speaker 01

I don't keep nothing to myself.

• 57:07Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, okay. Um, the best one, who's really gonna have their lips sealed? You know, Sagittarius are really, really lip sealed.

• 57:17Speaker 01

Ryan is Fort Knox, he don't, he don't share nothing.

• 57:19Keke Palmer?

And I have a Sag moon, so I can be Fort Knox, but I just love to share tea with Sharon. She's the funnest.

• 57:24Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 57:25Keke Palmer?

Okay, this is the last, last one. Hmm, best and worst sign to bring as your plus one to a vibey industry event.

• 57:35Speaker 01

  Ooh.

• 57:36Keke Palmer?

It depends on what you're looking for, and what are we looking for in a vibey industry party? Somebody that knows how to work the room on their own?

• 57:42Speaker 01

My thing is, I have very independent friends.

• 57:45Keke Palmer?

That's what I'm saying, and they come in all different signs.

• 57:47Speaker 01

Right, but some of my friends just, you know, I show up with them, but they leave me.

• 57:52Keke Palmer?

  Damn, they real independent.

• 57:53Speaker 01

No, they real independent. I'm like the kind of person, I'll stick to the one person I know, and I'll not talk to nobody else.

• 57:59Keke Palmer?

  Oh, that's so sweet.

• 58:00Speaker 01

  No, it's not, it's, I'm a terrible networker.

• 58:03Keke Palmer?

You gotta get out there and talk.

• 58:04Speaker 01

  No.

• 58:07Keke Palmer?

  Otherwise, it's so boring there.

• 58:08Speaker 01

I'm like, don't leave me, I'm super codependent at a party, girl, don't bring me nowhere with you.

• 58:12Keke Palmer?

At a party, I have one mission, to walk in a circle two times and then leave.

• 58:16Speaker 01

  Really?

• 58:17Keke Palmer?

And eat whatever snacks that they may have that I'm into.

• 58:19Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm usually like with one person the entire night, or like hanging out by the kitchen, so I'm the first one to get the order.

• 58:24Keke Palmer?

  The food helps.

• 58:26Speaker 01

  The food helps.

• 58:27Keke Palmer?

  The food helps.

• 58:28Speaker 01

But yeah, I don't know, maybe I'm the worst to go to a party with.

• 58:31Keke Palmer?

I didn't want to tell you, but.

• 58:32Speaker 01

Maybe it's me, is it me? All right, I don't know, I don't know.

• 58:35Keke Palmer?

  Kat, you're absolutely amazing.

• 58:36Speaker 01

  You are.

• 58:37Keke Palmer?

A triple Virgo couldn't be any better, it was exactly as exceptional.

• 58:40Speaker 01

Thank you for validating me, because it's one of my biggest insecurities.

• 58:42Keke Palmer?

I mean, actors, we, every time that director says cut, so what'd you think?

• 58:46Speaker 01

  Right.

• 58:46Keke Palmer?

Was it good? If they don't tell me yes, then I don't know. Right. I'm like, I noticed you were very quiet after that take. Is there something you want to talk about? You know what I mean? I need feedback. I need feedback. So the feedback is... That's why we gotta direct ourselves. Literally. It was amazing. Let's move on.

• 59:01Keke Palmer?

Thank you for coming on, baby. You're amazing.

• 59:07Keke Palmer?

That was good, y'all. Kat is so grounded in purpose, and it shines in everything she does. From her work, to her activism, to the way she connects with her fans. The way she shows up is just full of intention and heart. And I love that Kat is open about all of it. The joy and love, but also the hard stuff, like loss, heartbreak, and anger. That's not easy, but it's a reminder that we all have that power. We can take life's challenges, victories, and everything in between, and use it to shape us, strengthen us, and move us closer to our purpose. I'll be cheering y'all on every step of the way, and y'all cheer me on too. Because, baby, this is Keke Palmer.
