• 0:57Josh Horowitz?

Well, there's still time to change the name to, from I know what you did last summer to slash slash or what is it? Hook, hooky, hooky.

• 1:03Speaker 03

Hook, hook, slash, slash. It's like Morse code, but for angry fishermen. Who are hell bent on exacting revenge on teenagers.

• 1:14Josh Horowitz?

Oh my God. It's a niche focus group, but they're out there.

• 1:17Speaker 03

  I love it.

• 1:18Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 1:19Speaker 03

  They're, they're, oh, they're out there.

• 1:20Josh Horowitz?

They're out there. There are at least four of those guys.

• 1:22Speaker 03

Be safe. They are out there.

• 1:26Speaker 04

Prepare your ears, humans. Happy, sad, confused begins.

• 1:33Josh Horowitz?

Hey guys, it's Josh. Welcome to another edition of Happy, Sad, Confused. Today's main event, we have a first time guest on the podcast. Very popular young actress. I'm so thrilled to welcome to the show for the first time. It's Madeline Klein. If you have an Outer Banks fan in your life, if you're an Outer Banks fan, if you're OBX.

• 1:53Josh Horowitz?

Obsessive? Uh, what's the term? I don't know. If you're, if you're an Outer Banks person, uh, this one is for you. But also if you just love to kind of track, um, entertaining, fun, charismatic, cool, young stars, uh, you're gonna dig this. Madeline is a live wire of fun, fun conversation. So thrilled to have her. Her new movie is I Know What You Did Last Summer. It opens next week in theaters. Um, that is the main event. Unhappy, Sad, Confused today. Um, briefly, I'll mention as always, if you want early access to this and all our episodes, if you want bonus materials, you know what to do by now. Patreon.com/happy, sad, confused is your friend for all things Josh Horowitz. Uh, as I said, early access, discount codes,

• 2:33Josh Horowitz?

um, heads up on live events. We do a ton of live events. So check out what we do over there. It helps us do more over here. Patreon.com/happy, sad, confused. Um, all right. Some brief context for this conversation with Madeline. Madeline, um, swung into New York for like literally a day and I'm so thrilled. She did make some time for me and my little old show. Um, I've done a few things with Madeline, especially around Glass Onion. If you remember, she was so great in that film and kudos to Madeline for like, you know, not only getting that plum role in Ryan Johnson's Knives Out sequel, but more than holding her own against the likes of Daniel Craig, uh, Janelle Monae, uh, Catherine Han, Edward Norton. I mean, the list goes, Dave Bautista,

• 3:17Josh Horowitz?

the list goes on and on and on. And she was so fantastic in that. And she really registered for me in that film. And then I know, I know the OBX fans out there. I know you're out there. I know you love Madeline and I get it. Um, she is so fun. She is a ball of energy. She is, yeah, it was, it was a kind of a wild, weird, random conversation, but I love those. I loved riding the wave with Madeline Klein. I feel like she made me feel 20 years younger or older. I'm not sure. I definitely felt old, but I also felt like, okay, this is my cheat code for what a 27-year-old young woman feels and talks about nowadays. So if you're not 27 and

• 3:58Josh Horowitz?

female, perhaps this will give you a clue as to the mindset of a 27-year-old young woman nowadays in terms of pop culture references and just the way they speak, et cetera. God, do I sound old right now talking? I do. I'm gonna stop talking. Um, okay. So Madeline Klein, main guest on Happy, Sad, Confused. Of course, she is the star of Outer Banks. She is also the star of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Yes, it is the sequel. It's weird that it has the same name. I'm gonna say it, just like scream. Why do you call it the same thing? I don't know. Take it up with someone else, not me. Anyway, I know what you did last summer. Opens next week in theaters. It is Madeline. It's Chastely Wonder, who I also adore. And then it has some of the legacy actors from the original, including Freddie Prince Jr.

• 4:41Josh Horowitz?

And not Sarah Michelle Gellar, because she died in the first one. But oh, of course, Jennifer Love Hewitt. Amazing. So a nice thing for those of us that grew up in the 90s. So old. Okay, enjoy this conversation. It's a wild one. Me and Madeline Klein. Madeline, it's official. You're on the podcast.

• 5:03Speaker 03

  We're on the pod officially.

• 5:05Josh Horowitz?

  Thank you for doing this.

• 5:05Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 5:06Josh Horowitz?

You're in the middle of a lot of things. You've got, you've got the whole, the OBX thing is back.

• 5:10Speaker 03

The OBX, the vote show is back.

• 5:12Josh Horowitz?

The vote show is back. And you're sneaking away for basically 24 hours of press, if that.

• 5:17Speaker 03

  Pretty much.

• 5:18Josh Horowitz?

You snuck me in. I appreciate you.

• 5:19Speaker 03

Of course. You snuck me in. You know what else I snuck in?

• 5:24Josh Horowitz?

Fashion icon, Madeline Klein. What do you, what do you sell in here? What's, what's, what are you trying to give off? What's the vibe?

• 5:34Speaker 03

Maybe shrooms. I like a secret shroom dealer.

• 5:37Josh Horowitz?

Secret shroom dealer. That's, that's, yeah, okay, good, good. She's a woman of many talents.

• 5:41Speaker 03

Yeah, like, where am I going? Probably Thai Village for dinner.

• 5:44Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 5:46Speaker 03

And then probably just, you know, doing some drop offs.

• 5:50Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 5:51Speaker 03

  Afterwards.

• 5:52Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 5:52Speaker 03

And then I have a gala.

• 5:54Josh Horowitz?

  You have a gala?

• 5:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 5:55Josh Horowitz?

  That's how you roll.

• 5:56Speaker 03

  That's what my outfit.

• 5:56Josh Horowitz?

Every night, it's, oh, you should have told me it was for the podcast.

• 6:03Josh Horowitz?

You were Happy Sad Confused. You're like, get out the ball gowns, get out high fashion.

• 6:06Speaker 03

Yes, it's, it's, it is giving Happy Sad Confused, all these like different elements.

• 6:11Josh Horowitz?

Right, that's the confused. It's like, wait, what?

• 6:13Speaker 03

Yes, and then the nail polish, sad.

• 6:16Josh Horowitz?

  What's the tattoo?

• 6:17Speaker 03

Oh, it is, no, I got it last summer. And it's the cure layer. Or like two or something.

• 6:25Josh Horowitz?

  You're too cool for me.

• 6:25Speaker 03

I don't wanna like, I want people to figure it out.

• 6:28Josh Horowitz?

  Okay, okay.

• 6:28Speaker 03

You know, and like, maybe if there's one day on my Wiki feed, there's a high-res picture of my feet that ends up. Maybe then they'll.

• 6:35Josh Horowitz?

Do you maintain your own Wiki feed, or do you let someone else? Is that like an open source? How does that work?

• 6:40Speaker 03

Yeah, that's an, that's an open source.

• 6:42Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 6:42Speaker 03

Because I think that's probably the most unbiased.

• 6:45Josh Horowitz?

Right, you want truth. You don't want to skew your own vision of your feet.

• 6:49Speaker 03

  No, no, no.

• 6:50Josh Horowitz?

I did not expect the podcast to start that way. Uh, let's get, let's get the important stuff out of the way. You are spreading a good word on I Know What You Did Last Summer.

• 6:56Speaker 03

  Yes, yes.

• 6:57Josh Horowitz?

Which, um, I haven't had an opportunity to see, see yet. They haven't shown it to me, so I can only assume it's the best movie ever made.

• 7:03Speaker 03

I've seen the first forty-five minutes.

• 7:05Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 7:06Speaker 03

And I can, I can say that it is the best movie ever made. Knife, knife, hook, hook.

• 7:15Josh Horowitz?

Is that all the script is? Just this knife, knife, hook, hook?

• 7:17Speaker 03

  Slashy stab.

• 7:20Josh Horowitz?

That's the direction on it. Uh, more slashy stab on this one, Madeline?

• 7:23Speaker 03

  Yes, especially with like this.

• 7:27Speaker 03

Yes, that is, it is, it is the slashy stabby ever.

• 7:32Josh Horowitz?

  Wow, congrats on that.

• 7:33Speaker 03

  Thanks.

• 7:33Josh Horowitz?

Um, so, you know, I'm ninety-five years old, so my relationship to the original, yeah, ninety-five. Wish me a happy birthday, please.

• 7:40Speaker 03

  Wait, who, who did you?

• 7:41Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, it's all the way.

• 7:43Speaker 03

  I'm already planning my first.

• 7:44Josh Horowitz?

All the skin creams. Um, what was I gonna say? Oh, so I have a deep relationship to that first film. I was a sentient human being, I was very much the right age. You were not alive.

• 7:54Speaker 03

  Hmm.

• 7:55Josh Horowitz?

  I hate you.

• 7:56Speaker 03

Wait, no, it's, I, oh no, I was only, my mom was about five months away.

• 8:00Josh Horowitz?

You were getting there, you were almost there.

• 8:01Speaker 03

  Almost there.

• 8:02Josh Horowitz?

Um, so, relationship to the original, does every kid nowadays still see I Know What You Did Last Summer? Or?

• 8:09Speaker 03

Um, I think it's one of those, like, I mean, it's, it is like a cultural zeitgeist.

• 8:14Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 8:14Speaker 03

Like, it's crazy. Um, and it is a classic, even if I think people haven't seen it, I think they know of it.

• 8:21Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 8:22Speaker 03

  Um.

• 8:22Josh Horowitz?

Like you say, the slashy, slashy hook, hook fisherman.

• 8:25Speaker 03

Everyone knows that. And, and, I Know What You Did Last Summer walked, so it's a clean, good run. So, we're like one of the originals.

• 8:35Josh Horowitz?

And what about, look, we have Jennifer Love Hewitt back here. We have Freddie.

• 8:41Speaker 03

  Freddie Prinze.

• 8:42Josh Horowitz?

Freddie Prinze Jr. We have Sarah Michelle in proximity at least. She paid a visit.

• 8:47Speaker 03

Yes, the whole family. Yeah, I know.

• 8:50Josh Horowitz?

So, I mean, Sarah Michelle means a lot to every young person.

• 8:54Speaker 03

She means a lot to me.

• 8:56Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 8:56Speaker 03

Oh my god. So, the, like, one of the first times I met her, because they, you know, they've just brought the whole family down, it was like Australian vacation. I thought I turned that off.

• 9:06Josh Horowitz?

  You're good.

• 9:08Speaker 03

They brought the whole family down for an Australia vacation. And we were, I think, I think, I can say this.

• 9:18Josh Horowitz?

  You can.

• 9:18Speaker 03

So, my character, Danica, has, I've decided to build into her lore that she's really, really insecure about her shoulders.

• 9:29Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 9:31Speaker 03

And Lisa Renner is her idol, because Lisa Renner has a quote that says, "I love my shoulders. I love the way my shoulders look in this top." I like, and I feel like that's one of Danica's affirmations.

• 9:41Josh Horowitz?

  Yep.

• 9:41Speaker 03

She's like, "I'm safe from Benson Boone. My shoulders are incredible." You know what I mean? Like, "And my branches are always emerging." And so, I was telling Freddie and Sarah about this, because the whole conversation had happened the night before. And Sarah got me a cameo from Lisa Renner, but not from the app, like she'd...

• 10:06Josh Horowitz?

  Like an actual...

• 10:07Speaker 03

It's the most incredible movie ever. It's so, it's pretty long.

• 10:12Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, on the cameo app, that probably would have been thousands of dollars. You got, yeah.

• 10:15Speaker 03

Oh my god, I, I really, I have the lottery.

• 10:17Josh Horowitz?

Can you tease a little bit?

• 10:18Speaker 03

  Should I find it?

• 10:19Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 10:19Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 10:20Josh Horowitz?

We'll do, we can do it after, man. Let's grab it, okay?

• 10:22Speaker 03

But I'll, yes, I will show. I think, I think she'll be okay with it.

• 10:25Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 10:26Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:26Josh Horowitz?

If I know Lisa, I think she'll be fine.

• 10:28Speaker 03

She's the best. She's so fucking hot, sorry.

• 10:31Josh Horowitz?

So, on the Sarah front, were you a Buffy girl? I mean, did you grow up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer or no?

• 10:37Speaker 03

  You know, I, no, I didn't. I haven't, I haven't watched it.

• 10:40Josh Horowitz?

  That's okay.

• 10:40Speaker 03

  No. I wasn't a, I think I was a little too scared.

• 10:44Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 10:45Speaker 03

Uh huh. I was a, an office girl.

• 10:47Josh Horowitz?

You were an office girl. This is your first horror though, right? Technically, full-on horror.

• 10:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:53Josh Horowitz?

  Full-on.

• 10:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah. Yes.

• 10:55Josh Horowitz?

That's a rite of passage for any young actor.

• 10:56Speaker 03

  I think so.

• 10:57Josh Horowitz?

  Right?

• 10:57Speaker 03

  But especially one like this.

• 10:59Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, if you're gonna do it.

• 11:00Speaker 03

  If you're gonna do it.

• 11:01Josh Horowitz?

  Do it right.

• 11:01Speaker 03

  Slashy stuff.

• 11:02Josh Horowitz?

  Slashy. Hook, hook.

• 11:04Speaker 03

  Hook, hook, knife, knife.

• 11:08Josh Horowitz?

Have you been up for like horror things before? Does every young actor go up for the Scream movies nowadays? Like is that?

• 11:13Speaker 03

I hadn't been up for Scream, no.

• 11:17Speaker 03

But there's been like, there's been a few more indie horror, which also great because a lot of times I feel like they're it, they're, those, the more indie films are a little bit more it's about a conversation, like a deeper conversation.

• 11:34Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, yeah, like the Ari Aster crazy stuff.

• 11:36Speaker 03

  Super.

• 11:37Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 11:38Speaker 03

Um, but also really hard to be in that kind of like headspace every day on set.

• 11:43Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, yeah.

• 11:43Speaker 03

Um, it's a choice. But this was like, I think, I was like, okay, well, if we're gonna do it, this is a great one.

• 11:51Josh Horowitz?

So same like this, you can, you can have fun with it. Like you can commit to it, you can do the Lisa Rinna backstory.

• 11:56Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 11:56Josh Horowitz?

But you can also like detach, you don't have to live this life.

• 11:59Speaker 03

  Right.

• 11:59Josh Horowitz?

  When you go home.

• 12:00Speaker 03

Right. Um, and I would love to do something like that.

• 12:04Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 12:04Speaker 03

Super deep, but that is prep.

• 12:06Josh Horowitz?

Yeah. So what are the skills that you already had, do you think, that like equipped you for this? And what skills didn't you have? Like you've done the physical stuff, obviously, but like this is a different kind of thing, I would imagine, or you tell me? Like what, what didn't you have going into this? What did you have going into this?

• 12:21Speaker 03

Um, what I did have going into this was, um,

• 12:31Speaker 03

Fate Blockers? And, and, uh, the time of my life. It like, it was just so fun.

• 12:37Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 12:38Speaker 03

It was really truly fun. I enjoyed every second of it. I mean, Danica's also,

• 12:45Speaker 03

she is, she's camp. Which is just like,

• 12:51Speaker 03

I mean, it's just fun. Like, I don't know, I'm having the time of my life.

• 12:54Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 12:54Speaker 03

Like, we're literally getting chased around, but Danica's like.

• 13:00Josh Horowitz?

  She's in her own movie.

• 13:01Speaker 03

No, no, Danica believes that she is, her life is a movie.

• 13:05Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, I love it.

• 13:06Speaker 03

Yes, she is the main character.

• 13:08Josh Horowitz?

  Amazing.

• 13:08Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 13:09Josh Horowitz?

And this also feels, I don't know like how you're selecting your parts or not, but it feels like sometimes you're selecting them based on like, I want to go on an adventure somewhere.

• 13:16Speaker 03

Yes, oh, totally, because everything shoots in Europe and Australia.

• 13:20Josh Horowitz?

You're traveling so, like, you're doing it. You're having some great adventures, it seems.

• 13:24Speaker 03

  It makes so much fun.

• 13:25Josh Horowitz?

So this was Australia. And again, probably a bunch of new friends, I would imagine, of senior age group. So like, a whole bunch of new people. And it feels like you're just at the other end of the earth, doing your own thing.

• 13:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I think, it was, we had some really, really special fun nights. All together, I mean, it was a very quick filming schedule. We had about six weeks.

• 13:47Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 13:47Speaker 03

  In Australia, which is fast.

• 13:49Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 13:50Speaker 03

To get everything done and by golly, we did it.

• 13:56Josh Horowitz?

  Enough harsh language, okay?

• 13:58Speaker 03

Sorry, I know. Bleep that out. That was really funny.

• 14:04Josh Horowitz?

  Bye, beep.

• 14:07Speaker 03

And, but yes, it was really fun. We went to some like beautiful beaches for my, like, for our early wrap slash like my birthday party. We went and we got a huge suite at the Crown Hotel. And we just had a night ever. Santa was there.

• 14:29Josh Horowitz?

  Santa was there.

• 14:29Speaker 03

  Santa was there.

• 14:30Josh Horowitz?

  The Santa.

• 14:32Speaker 03

I do think like we could, if we paid him enough, I do think he would have started stripping. Oh, man.

• 14:39Josh Horowitz?

This is the official Santa. You think with enough money, you're saying the real Santa would actually strip?

• 14:43Speaker 03

I think he was, I think that was actually Santa.

• 14:46Josh Horowitz?

Wow, I believe in you. I believe in your magic.

• 14:49Speaker 03

I know, I think so. I don't not believe in the magic. But also, it was funny because Gabriette saw him first.

• 14:59Josh Horowitz?

  Continue on.

• 15:00Speaker 03

And she immediately, like, she's like, "Oh my god, take my phone." And she's, he's passing out candy canes as Santa does. And she's, and has like a silver metallic bikini. She puts her hand over and she's, like, immediately starts going into a full-blown photo shoot.

• 15:17Josh Horowitz?

  Sexy Santa shoot.

• 15:18Speaker 03

I've never seen anything like it.

• 15:20Josh Horowitz?

  How did Santa handle the?

• 15:21Speaker 03

  He loved it.

• 15:22Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, of course he did, knowing Santa.

• 15:24Speaker 03

Yeah, and he gave us a candy cane.

• 15:26Josh Horowitz?

I'm not gonna comment on that, I'm gonna move on.

• 15:31Josh Horowitz?

As mentioned, you just literally started Outer Banks, the final season. Like, you're like, day one was, yeah, a couple of days ago.

• 15:37Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, day one, yeah, one day.

• 15:39Josh Horowitz?

So how, I mean, it's pretty much true to say, "How's it feel?" But like, how does it feel? Like, are you, is it hitting all of you yet?

• 15:46Speaker 03

I think, yes, it's hitting all of us. But it's so funny because we've been in the thick of it for six or seven years. And there's been, there have been times, I mean, it's not, it kicks our asses. It's, it's a tough show to shoot. It's very physically demanding. We'll always come back and I'm like, "Oh fuck, I forgot how much stamina."

• 16:10Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 16:11Speaker 03

I, you need to have to keep up with this show and the elements that we shoot in. But it's so funny because sometimes we go back and we're like, "Ugh."

• 16:23Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 16:23Speaker 03

  "I'm tired."

• 16:24Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 16:25Speaker 03

"Cold air." And this season, I think because we realize it's our last time.

• 16:32Josh Horowitz?

  You're trying to enjoy it.

• 16:34Speaker 03

You know, now it's like, "Oh my god, our very first day back." It was our last birthday.

• 16:42Josh Horowitz?

Right, everything's gonna be the last.

• 16:43Speaker 03

Everything's the last, it's, I think that's what's hitting everyone. So everyone has this, this really, really incredible attitude of gratitude. It is like Sesame Street. Or, no, sorry, Mr. Rogers.

• 17:01Josh Horowitz?

Yes, an attitude of gratitude, I like that.

• 17:03Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 17:04Josh Horowitz?

So did, have you read all the scripts yet?

• 17:06Speaker 03

  No.

• 17:06Josh Horowitz?

No, you never get them all at once, right? What do you know? How much do you know about the, do you know how this all ends up?

• 17:12Speaker 03

We have five scripts, but I've only read one.

• 17:15Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 17:16Speaker 03

So we were, Chase and I were shooting our first scene back. And I was like, Chase, what happened before this? So he was, he was giving me spark notes. He was giving me like the bullet points.

• 17:30Josh Horowitz?

  Cue codes.

• 17:30Speaker 03

Yes, yeah. I was like, okay, got it, okay. And, actually, and go. And then, and then I guess it worked. It was kind of like, it reminded me of like cue cards or like having a thing in your ear. And I got a great compliment that day from her director. I was like, hmm.

• 17:48Josh Horowitz?

Yeah. Well, this, the people that can't see it, but you have a little IFB in your ear right now that's feeding you every answer to this podcast. This is all scripted.

• 17:56Speaker 03

  Actually a clone.

• 17:56Josh Horowitz?

Yeah. This is, this is AI Madeline. Sarah's still pregnant, JJ's still dead, these things are still, these are still canon?

• 18:04Speaker 03

Yes, yeah, every, all still canon.

• 18:09Speaker 03

It's funny because like, people were asking me if the baby is dead. Or is still alive? And I was like, no? And then Netflix was like, no spoilers.

• 18:22Speaker 03

I was like, what do you think? I'm not, this is a spoiler.

• 18:25Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 18:25Speaker 03

But it's also really funny because I met, I actually, I was here a couple of weeks ago and I met a little boy who was a big fan of the show. And he's like, he, but he thought I was pregnant in real life.

• 18:37Josh Horowitz?

  Sure.

• 18:38Speaker 03

And, um, he like, what happened? I don't know. But it was basically, he basically was like, wait, why aren't you fat?

• 18:50Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, God.

• 18:52Speaker 03

I was like, got it, don't worry about it.

• 18:55Josh Horowitz?

Just, yeah, how do you even respond to that? That's tough.

• 18:58Speaker 03

I know, I was like, hmm.

• 19:02Josh Horowitz?

  Enjoy the show.

• 19:03Speaker 03

  Wouldn't you like to know?

• 19:05Josh Horowitz?

Wait, it turned, it turned mean. You're like, by the way, there is no Santa.

• 19:08Speaker 03

  Yeah. Pie.

• 19:11Josh Horowitz?

  Pie in the face.

• 19:12Speaker 03

I met Santa and I'm gonna tell him about you.

• 19:15Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, you're naughty. You're on the naughty list.

• 19:16Speaker 03

  You're the worst.

• 19:19Speaker 03

  This is a knife, knife.

• 19:22Josh Horowitz?

The ulterior motive, of course, look, I wanted to have you on the podcast for a while, but I do have two nieces of that age.

• 19:27Speaker 03

  Really?

• 19:28Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, yeah, Sadie and Sienna.

• 19:29Speaker 03

  Oh, sweet.

• 19:30Josh Horowitz?

Horowitz are very, very excited about this.

• 19:32Speaker 03

  Sadie and Sienna.

• 19:33Josh Horowitz?

Thank you for giving me some brownie points.

• 19:35Speaker 03

  No worries.

• 19:36Josh Horowitz?

What do you, I mean, the intensity of the fandom, look, I've talked to a lot of actors over the years with certain kinds of fandom, and this is one of those.

• 19:42Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 19:42Josh Horowitz?

  This is one of those.

• 19:43Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 19:46Josh Horowitz?

I mean, can you give me a sense of sort of like, what are the intense fan interactions you do get? Are there typical reactions? Does it ever get too much? Like, what's the...

• 19:55Speaker 03

I think there's a very typical reaction when someone is, you know, does recognize or sees me as like, is a scream or a squeal or a screech.

• 20:06Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 20:07Speaker 03

Or a gas. And I'm like, you know, like today, I was, I've been running late all day, but I was in these, my fabulous slides and then my sleep shorts and a giant t-shirt with Jesse Joe on the back, my eye patches, hair not brushed.

• 20:26Josh Horowitz?

  And still...

• 20:26Speaker 03

Hadn't showered. Everything, I was in a mess. And, and then it was one of those moments where I was like, please.

• 20:35Josh Horowitz?

  Right, right, right.

• 20:36Speaker 03

Please, please, please. Yeah. And it can get intense, I think, sometimes when it comes to privacy or like anonymity, especially like where I live or where I'm going, where I'm traveling to, or hotels, or like even bathrooms, like, no.

• 20:54Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, there are limits, there are boundaries.

• 20:56Speaker 03

  I go peepee now.

• 20:59Speaker 03

  And usually two, over there.

• 21:03Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 21:03Speaker 03

Yeah, so that's when it gets a little intense.

• 21:07Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, yeah, I would imagine that, and there's no, there's no way to teach you that, like, that's just something you kind of learn as you go.

• 21:12Speaker 03

Yeah, and some people are just like, some people are better at it than others.

• 21:16Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 21:17Speaker 03

Which is fine, it's, I mean, it's like, yeah, I don't know how to, how to describe it, and people are like, how do you deal with it? I don't know.

• 21:26Josh Horowitz?

Do you ever have the experience of like, hearing people talk about the show or you and not realizing you're there, like, not recognizing you, like they're watching it on a, on a plane or whatever? That happens.

• 21:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I've had that. I think it was season two or something, or season three, I can't remember, but there were multiple people watching it on a plane, and it was like...

• 21:49Josh Horowitz?

I'm sure even like also Glass Onion too, that was probably on every plane for a period of time.

• 21:53Speaker 03

  That was really cool, yeah.

• 21:54Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 21:55Speaker 03

I think it actually still was on my flight back from Europe.

• 21:58Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 21:59Speaker 03

  Yeah, it's very cool.

• 22:00Josh Horowitz?

  It's a good one to re-watch.

• 22:02Speaker 03

I was, I was so fit. I was in such good shape.

• 22:06Josh Horowitz?

Oh yeah, you're a mess now, you fell apart.

• 22:08Speaker 03

I really have, I let myself go.

• 22:12Josh Horowitz?

You know, I did have a conversation, I doubt you saw this, but I did have a conversation the other day with Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans.

• 22:17Speaker 03

Oh yes, oh my god, that was in the group chat, we sent that to the Poops group chat.

• 22:23Speaker 03

  It's so funny, she's funny.

• 22:25Josh Horowitz?

  I love her.

• 22:26Speaker 03

  I'm obsessed with her.

• 22:27Josh Horowitz?

As you should be. Um, let me play it again for you to react, and just tell me.

• 22:31Speaker 03

  This is my favorite thing.

• 22:33Josh Horowitz?

Could a pogue and a kook really fall in love?

• 22:35Speaker 06

Josh, what the [bleep] are you talking about?

• 22:38Josh Horowitz?

  What are these words?

• 22:39Speaker 06

  What are, what's happening?

• 22:41Josh Horowitz?

You love Outer Banks, that's your favorite show, next to...

• 22:44Speaker 03

  It's my favorite show.

• 22:45Josh Horowitz?

The Summer I Turned Pretty and then Outer Banks.

• 22:46Speaker 06

Yeah, starring Louisa... And Jacob Tremblay. And, um...

• 22:56Josh Horowitz?

Like, I don't know if you're joking or if you're being hilarious.

• 22:59Speaker 06

  Dominic Cooper.

• 23:00Josh Horowitz?

Dominic Cooper. I love Dominic Cooper. He's not on the show for the record, he's not.

• 23:04Speaker 06

Who else is on Outer Banks?

• 23:05Josh Horowitz?

Man, well shout out to Dom Cooper. So what was it like when you saw that they had no idea what...

• 23:11Speaker 03

  I wasn't surprised.

• 23:12Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 23:13Speaker 03

I'm never surprised when people are, when people are like, I haven't watched, I'm like, I haven't either.

• 23:18Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, it would be a no, just assume everybody knows.

• 23:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, totally.

• 23:21Josh Horowitz?

But, yes, that's the right attitude.

• 23:22Speaker 03

Yeah, but I thought it was so funny, and Madison sent it in the group chat, and she was like, "Oh buddy, we're fucked."

• 23:32Speaker 03

I was like, "We're cooked, absolutely cooked."

• 23:35Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, I saw Chase commented on the MTV post with a "whelp." I'm like, "Oop."

• 23:52Speaker 00

• 24:53Josh Horowitz?

Okay, it's gonna be a long shoot this last season. So you're gonna have time to process all of this.

• 24:57Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 24:58Josh Horowitz?

But talk to me a little bit about the choices you're starting to make. You've been making the last couple of years and taking the best opportunities when you've had time.

• 25:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:05Josh Horowitz?

Like, are you already like, you won't have the security blanket of outer banks. That's the scariest part, I would imagine, right?

• 25:11Speaker 03

Yes, that is to me, I think, the one mindfuck of it all. Because it's been, it's been the better part of my twenties.

• 25:22Speaker 03

And it's always, it is the security blanket that I always go back to and I always know that is always going to be there and is in a way like feels like having your training wheels taken off.

• 25:35Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 25:38Speaker 03

So I think that is... For me, that's the one thing that's like really kind of messing with my head. And we have a very long shoot coming up.

• 25:51Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 25:52Speaker 03

So there's going to be plenty of time, plenty of time for crashouts. I had a crash out yesterday.

• 25:58Josh Horowitz?

Just like emotionally, just like kind of like, okay.

• 26:00Speaker 03

  You know what I mean?

• 26:01Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 26:01Speaker 03

Yeah, because I was hungry. Yeah.

• 26:04Josh Horowitz?

  It's a lot of pressure.

• 26:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:05Josh Horowitz?

  It's a lot.

• 26:06Speaker 03

It's a lot of pressure to be hungry.

• 26:08Josh Horowitz?

I feel it every day. Hungry Josh is not a happy Josh.

• 26:12Speaker 03

No, not all. I mean, I'm just, I'm thinking about the sushi out there now.

• 26:15Josh Horowitz?

We were talking. That's our happy place.

• 26:16Speaker 03

  Happy place.

• 26:17Josh Horowitz?

Is the happy place when the food has arrived and the patience of the food. It's just thinking about food. That's my life. That's, it's always like, what's the next meal?

• 26:25Speaker 03

The happy place is that period of time between your, your dasher or your postmate is there.

• 26:32Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 26:33Speaker 03

  And the first couple bites.

• 26:38Josh Horowitz?

Right, before you overindulge and then you're like.

• 26:39Speaker 03

And then it's like, because I am, I shovel food into, like, I'm, I'm very, very excited.

• 26:48Speaker 03

  I'm always.

• 26:48Josh Horowitz?

  It's the first time.

• 26:49Speaker 03

Yes, like, no, I, but I order everything too. I'm like, this, I want this, I want this. And I eat like three bites each.

• 26:56Josh Horowitz?

Right. Where are you on food trends? Do you like go after like, it's like, all right, everyone's doing the Dubai chocolate now. I gotta try the Dubai choc. Like, where are you at?

• 27:05Speaker 03

I have tried a couple of trendy things. I tried the, the Final Boss Sour things.

• 27:11Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 27:11Speaker 03

I don't know if you've seen those on TikTok. Basically, it's dried fruit that's covered in like a sour.

• 27:17Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 27:18Speaker 03

  Enough for me.

• 27:19Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 27:19Speaker 03

Dubai chocolate, haven't tried because I'm not really a sweet. I'm not a chocolate person.

• 27:25Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 27:25Speaker 03

I like sour and I like salty and spicy.

• 27:29Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 27:30Speaker 03

So like chamoy pickle. Delicious. Big fan of that trend.

• 27:34Josh Horowitz?

Is there any food, what are, what are your food no's? Like, what's your, what are your no goes?

• 27:40Speaker 03

Hard pass. I don't really like.

• 27:46Speaker 03

Hmm, I don't really love pork.

• 27:50Josh Horowitz?

Okay. Not a bacon, not a, not a, okay, okay.

• 27:53Speaker 03

  No, but I love ribs.

• 27:55Josh Horowitz?

  Interesting.

• 27:55Speaker 03

  That's barbecue.

• 27:56Josh Horowitz?

  Yes.

• 27:57Speaker 03

  You know what I mean?

• 27:57Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 27:58Speaker 03

Um, my other nose, any like, anything really just like sweet.

• 28:04Josh Horowitz?

Right, you're not a sweet, it's not a sweet tooth.

• 28:05Speaker 03

  No.

• 28:06Josh Horowitz?

  As you said, spicy sour.

• 28:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:07Josh Horowitz?

  Savory, okay.

• 28:08Speaker 03

Yeah, but uh, my, yeah, what's in? Hmm, yes.

• 28:19Josh Horowitz?

Okay, well, I, we're all over the place, but that's okay, that's how my brain works too.

• 28:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:22Josh Horowitz?

Um, what's also been cool is not only the opportunities you've had, like making the most of Glass Onion, etc., all these great things off of Outer Banks, but like your co-stars too, it's like.

• 28:32Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, oh, that's what we were talking about.

• 28:34Josh Horowitz?

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah. No, okay, yeah, the career outside of Outer Banks, so like, when you see like Drew, like have that opportunity with Daniel, who's apparently just running through the Outer Banks cast.

• 28:44Speaker 03

  I know.

• 28:46Speaker 03

We're so run through by Daniel Craig.

• 28:49Josh Horowitz?

He's a secret OBX obsessive. He pretends like he doesn't know, but he knows.

• 28:53Speaker 03

He's really funny, he's like, yes, Drew also said, so funny story about Daniel is he hates jazz. Like, like loathes jazz.

• 29:04Josh Horowitz?

  Who hates jazz?

• 29:05Speaker 03

  Daniel Craig.

• 29:06Josh Horowitz?

  Okay, good to know.

• 29:07Speaker 03

  He's so triggered by it.

• 29:10Speaker 03

  And.

• 29:10Josh Horowitz?

Did you know this, or was this is from Drew?

• 29:12Speaker 03

  No, I know this.

• 29:13Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 29:14Speaker 03

And then Drew and I were actually talking about our experiences with him and he's, you know, but Daniel always has his little, little earbuds in.

• 29:22Josh Horowitz?

  Yep.

• 29:22Speaker 03

And I was like, Drew, what does he listen to? Cause I never ask, he's like Kesha, or like something, or you know, like that.

• 29:32Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 29:33Speaker 03

I think it was Kesha though.

• 29:34Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 29:34Speaker 03

I think that's what Drew said.

• 29:35Josh Horowitz?

  Interesting.

• 29:36Speaker 03

Yeah, it's, it's just, he's such a, he's so silly and fun and nice, but.

• 29:42Josh Horowitz?

He intimidated the hell out of me for years, and then like I started, I did some stuff around.

• 29:45Speaker 03

  It's his eyes.

• 29:46Josh Horowitz?

It's everything. His, also his physicality, he's a big bruising kind of guy, but yeah, I did some things around Glass Onion, and I did longer form stuff with him, and I feel like, I'm like, okay, now I kind of get a beat on you.

• 29:56Speaker 03

He has crazy aura, for sure.

• 29:58Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 29:59Speaker 03

Um, but just like, very nice, wants to do the crossword every day.

• 30:04Josh Horowitz?

Who, so who in that cast was most least intimidating? Like who did you like feel? That you vodged with, that you were like, I don't know.

• 30:14Speaker 03

I was, I was pretty intimidated by that entire cast. I don't know if there was one who was most or least intimidating. Probably, what I do remember feeling like the most starstruck was when I had a rehearsal with Edward Norton and Daniel.

• 30:37Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 30:38Speaker 03

Or no, I'm sorry, I had a rehearsal with Ryan and then theirs was after. So they both walked in and I was like.

• 30:45Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah. Edward's intense, he's a smart dude.

• 30:47Speaker 03

  Sprinkle sprinkle.

• 30:48Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 30:49Speaker 03

Uh oh. Like, all, no thoughts.

• 30:53Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 30:54Speaker 03

I like practically ran out. I just didn't, I was so scared. Catherine.

• 31:00Josh Horowitz?

  She's a beam of light.

• 31:01Speaker 03

Was just so, like, oh, I love her.

• 31:06Josh Horowitz?

  I know.

• 31:07Speaker 03

I would do anything for her.

• 31:09Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 31:10Speaker 03

She's also worked with Chase Sweet and Sarah Pidgeon. So all three of us have worked together, I know. So she's running through the, I know you did love her.

• 31:18Josh Horowitz?

She's competing with Daniel, yeah, yeah.

• 31:22Josh Horowitz?

  You shot Day Drinker?

• 31:23Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 31:24Josh Horowitz?

Talk about some more icons you're knocking off the list.

• 31:26Speaker 03

That was another thing, I was like, my very first day on set, I'm a bartender and I, they had me bartending during the day and I was like, I've got this, you know, doing my thing. And my first day on set is like me bartending and like with Johnny and I take the cup up and it was like on a plate and I was like.

• 31:48Speaker 03

  And you could hear it.

• 31:49Josh Horowitz?

  It's a character trait that I shake a lot.

• 31:51Speaker 03

  Yes, but very intimidating.

• 31:53Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, so for the record, this is Johnny Depp and Alpy Cruz also in it.

• 31:57Speaker 03

  Also incredible.

• 31:58Josh Horowitz?

  Unbelievable.

• 31:59Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 32:00Josh Horowitz?

How many scarves was he wearing? Or I guess he's in character, he's not wearing all the scarves.

• 32:03Speaker 03

  He has a scarf on.

• 32:04Josh Horowitz?

  Of course he did.

• 32:04Speaker 03

  He has a few scarves.

• 32:05Josh Horowitz?

  It's contractual.

• 32:06Speaker 03

He likes, he likes his scarves.

• 32:08Josh Horowitz?

But does that go away, that intimidation on day two?

• 32:10Speaker 03

Yeah, that was, that went away fairly quickly.

• 32:16Speaker 03

And I also think it was truly the start of my character's like real arc, like those were the like those scenes that we did is kind of her backbone.

• 32:28Josh Horowitz?

Yeah. So you get to kind of mirror her arc a little bit, you're saying, like she kind of like gets more comfortable or in that world?

• 32:35Speaker 03

Well, in a way, I think that could have, which is why I had to lean into it because I wanted it to inform.

• 32:41Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 32:42Speaker 03

Because it can, but I was, it was just really important to me that I get it right. You know what I mean?

• 32:48Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 32:48Speaker 03

  Very, very important, but yes.

• 32:50Josh Horowitz?

Do you find you're like having to chase like good material or are you like, is it competitive out there to like find in your age group?

• 32:57Speaker 03

  I think so, yeah.

• 32:57Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 32:58Speaker 03

  Yeah, it's competitive for sure.

• 33:01Speaker 03

And I think one of my acting teachers a long time ago was always said that

• 33:12Speaker 03

whatever projects come to you are the ones that you have to learn lessons from.

• 33:18Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 33:18Speaker 03

Which I think is just life.

• 33:21Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 33:21Speaker 03

In general, but it's a nice way to think about it.

• 33:23Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 33:24Speaker 03

And it's interesting because every project I've had, I have learned something or taken something away personally from it. So I have informed character, characters informed me, which I think is kind of nice, just like to let go and let

• 33:38Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 33:39Speaker 03

Let those lessons and emotions develop.

• 33:44Josh Horowitz?

So what are the lessons about another film which I got a chance to see, it's coming out, I think late summer?

• 33:49Speaker 03

  Oh, yes.

• 33:49Josh Horowitz?

The new Lassie Howstrom film, you and KJ Appa, The Map That Leads To You.

• 33:53Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 33:54Josh Horowitz?

Very sweet. It's kind of definitely in like that Before Sunrise.

• 33:57Speaker 03

That's exactly, yes, that was, that was the reference.

• 34:00Josh Horowitz?

  Right?

• 34:00Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 34:02Josh Horowitz?

So what do you take away from that besides, again, going to travel through Europe and see amazing places with cool people?

• 34:07Speaker 03

  Uh, right, right.

• 34:08Josh Horowitz?

  I mean, that's a good, boring thing.

• 34:09Speaker 03

Besides that lesson, a little thing, I think the main lesson with that one is love is so like important.

• 34:18Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 34:18Speaker 03

  Like it is.

• 34:22Speaker 03

I don't know, like, just love in general. And telling people that you love them is so important.

• 34:32Speaker 03

And allowing yourself to love, because I feel like sometimes we're so afraid of emoting or being too vulnerable, but it's also, it's so important.

• 34:44Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, you have to expose yourself if you're gonna, you have to open yourself up.

• 34:47Speaker 03

You have to. Yeah, that's a lesson. I think that was the takeaway, like, you have to open up.

• 34:52Josh Horowitz?

Talking about opening up, without spoiling anything, you do sing a little bit in that film.

• 34:57Speaker 03

  Oh, no.

• 34:58Josh Horowitz?

There's some guitar and some singing.

• 34:59Speaker 03

  It was so embarrassing.

• 35:00Josh Horowitz?

Was it? Was it that mortifying?

• 35:02Speaker 03

  What's going on?

• 35:04Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 35:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 35:06Josh Horowitz?

How'd that feel? Was that, is that like, nothing feels more exposing maybe outside of a sex scene than like...

• 35:10Speaker 03

  Hush, hush.

• 35:14Speaker 03

Maybe that was Paula Abdul. Is it? No, Trust. Trust?

• 35:17Josh Horowitz?

You just went to Paula Abdul. Yeah, yeah, yes, yes. Keanu's in the video, I think.

• 35:22Speaker 03

  I clearly am a singer.

• 35:25Josh Horowitz?

  Clearly.

• 35:25Speaker 03

  Clearly.

• 35:26Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 35:27Speaker 03

Yes, and Marty said, Madeline, have you, Marty Bowen, our producer, was like, Madeline, do you sing? Do you play guitar? I was like, yes, I have taken lessons, and I went both. And so he took that as a yes, like, that I...

• 35:42Speaker 03

Because it's not, there's like one thing, I can, you know.

• 35:46Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 35:47Speaker 03

  I know G, I know C.

• 35:50Josh Horowitz?

  You're ahead of me.

• 35:51Speaker 03

  I know, I know D.

• 35:54Josh Horowitz?

Everyone knows D, though. Come on.

• 35:57Speaker 03

I know what a fret is.

• 35:58Josh Horowitz?

I don't know what that is.

• 36:00Speaker 03

No, period. No, no, I'm kidding. But he, so I knew there's that, and then there's actually playing, which, by the way, sorry.

• 36:07Josh Horowitz?

  You're good, you're good, you're good.

• 36:08Speaker 03

Okay. Which, by the way, KJ is, you know KJ has a band?

• 36:13Josh Horowitz?

  I think I knew that.

• 36:14Speaker 03

But he like picks up the guitar and he's like...

• 36:16Josh Horowitz?

  Jerk.

• 36:17Speaker 03

I know, I know. And I asked, I asked Marty, I was like, can we please sing it out? I'm really embarrassed. I don't want to sing. Can he like, he play the guitar and can I sing? Because singing and playing guitar is really, really hard.

• 36:26Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 36:27Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:27Josh Horowitz?

Especially just on set, like, again, exposing yourself to strangers, not strangers, but...

• 36:39Speaker 00

• 37:40Josh Horowitz?

Who is doing it right in your age group? Like who's the actor, young actor, male or female? You think that's like, you know, everyone can say Leo, but that's obviously like the next generation, the previous generation. But like who in like the twenties right now? Do you admire kind of like what they're showing off, their range, their choices?

• 37:56Speaker 03

Honestly, God, I think there's so many. I'm like so impressed by, I'm so impressed by like one of my close friends, Lucas Cage.

• 38:07Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 38:07Speaker 03

I'm so impressed by him and his attitude towards, towards acting and writing. Like he's an incredible writer.

• 38:16Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 38:16Speaker 03

And he's just so, he's so incredibly smart. I think Sydney is also incredibly smart and like very, very, um, very, very intelligent businesswoman. And also she's, I think she's very impressive.

• 38:32Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, I think people underestimate Sydney a lot at their peril. That's like they...

• 38:36Speaker 03

  It's like her superpower.

• 38:37Josh Horowitz?

  Totally.

• 38:37Speaker 03

She like, she lets it happen.

• 38:39Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 38:39Speaker 03

Which also... That is, that's kind of like, that's one of the best things ever. It's one of my favorite feelings, it's being underestimated and proving someone wrong. I think Sophie Thatcher is really impressive. And a huge cinephile. Adore her. I'm trying to think, I mean Drew, obviously. Anya, I think, I mean, of course, Jenna. And the list goes on. I just, I think the whole group was really impressive.

• 39:12Josh Horowitz?

Kind of experiences, kind of filmmaker that you, okay, on the other side of Outer Banks that you're looking for right now, like what's on your mind, like in terms of bucket lists?

• 39:21Speaker 03

God, I'm really, Day Drinker was quite heady and heavy. So I, you know, and obviously Outer Banks, you come back and I felt like I could finally like exhale. Because it's very easy, it's like, you know, getting on your bike with your training wheels that are about to fall off. And, and so I think after this, I really, I like, I want to do comedy. I want to, I think the art of the rom-com has been lost a little bit. And I have so many ideas.

• 40:00Speaker 03

And I really want to do, I love, oh my God, Rachel's in it, of course.

• 40:07Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, I'm excited about her new show, right? She's a new HBO show, I think she's doing.

• 40:13Speaker 03

And I really want to do like, I love Thelma and Louise type. Two unhinged bitches go on an adventure.

• 40:24Josh Horowitz?

Honestly, by the way, a good name for a movie, just unhinged bitches.

• 40:27Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 40:27Josh Horowitz?

  Coming 2026.

• 40:28Speaker 03

  Honestly, Untitled Unhinged Bitches Project.

• 40:31Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 40:31Speaker 03

  Period.

• 40:32Josh Horowitz?

  Who's your co-star?

• 40:33Speaker 03

I don't know. I'm still, I'm still thinking about that. I kind of want to put KJ in a wig.

• 40:40Josh Horowitz?

Does KJ know about this? Is he okay?

• 40:42Speaker 03

  He knows about Fifi.

• 40:43Josh Horowitz?

  That's his alter ego?

• 40:44Speaker 03

  Yes, Fifi.

• 40:45Josh Horowitz?

  Obviously, yeah.

• 40:45Speaker 03

And I really think that it would be incredible. Me, I like, um, Cece and Fifi. Big road trip adventure.

• 40:56Josh Horowitz?

  That's the official name.

• 40:57Speaker 03

  Maybe.

• 40:58Josh Horowitz?

It's a little long on a poster, but...

• 41:00Speaker 03

I kinda wanted to just, I want the title to like just run off and so you don't know. You don't know what the rest of it says.

• 41:10Josh Horowitz?

Right, right, right. Cece, Fifi, duh, duh, duh, duh. Yeah. Well, there's still time to change the name to, from I Know What You Did Last Summer to Slash Slash or what is it? Hook, Hook, Hook, Hook.

• 41:19Speaker 03

Hook, Hook, Hook, Slash, Slash. It's like Morse code but for angry fishermen. Who are, um, hell bent on exacting revenge on teenagers.

• 41:30Josh Horowitz?

Oh my god. It's a niche focus group, but they're out there.

• 41:33Speaker 03

  I love it.

• 41:34Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 41:35Speaker 03

  They're, oh, they're out there.

• 41:36Josh Horowitz?

They're out there. There's at least four of those guys.

• 41:38Speaker 03

Be safe. They are out there.

• 41:43Josh Horowitz?

Um, I'm gonna let you go soon, I promise. But is the ABBA obsession overstated or is it accurate?

• 41:48Speaker 03

  It's accurate.

• 41:49Josh Horowitz?

  It is accurate.

• 41:49Speaker 03

  I'm obsessed with them.

• 41:50Josh Horowitz?

So you would like a Mamma Mia film or like a Taylor Swift video, what would you?

• 41:55Speaker 03

Mamma Mia. I actually watched it on the plane.

• 41:58Josh Horowitz?

  Did you?

• 41:58Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 41:59Josh Horowitz?

  Original or?

• 42:00Speaker 03

  Uh, original, yes.

• 42:01Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 42:02Speaker 03

Oh, yes. I love them. It makes me cry, the same way that like How to Train Your Dragon makes me cry every single time.

• 42:07Josh Horowitz?

Did you see the new one yet?

• 42:08Speaker 03

No, not yet. That's, um, that's my plan for tomorrow or something when I get back to South Carolina.

• 42:14Josh Horowitz?

Do you like to cry watching movies? Sometimes it's like, it's like, no.

• 42:17Speaker 03

  Cathartic.

• 42:17Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 42:18Speaker 03

No, I don't. But if something really gets me, which How to Train Your Dragon does, or Mamma Mia.

• 42:23Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 42:23Speaker 03

  Oh, I'm sobbing.

• 42:25Josh Horowitz?

  That's me with OBX.

• 42:27Speaker 03

Really? Not Dakota Johnson. We should have a watch party.

• 42:32Josh Horowitz?

You should. Let's expose Dakota to OBX from the start.

• 42:35Speaker 03

  Yes, yes, exposure and limes.

• 42:39Josh Horowitz?

I'm gonna, uh, I'm gonna, uh, end with this. The Happy Second Feels profoundly random questions. You ready?

• 42:43Speaker 03

  Yes, ready, ready, ready.

• 42:44Josh Horowitz?

We're doing it. Dogs or cats?

• 42:45Speaker 03

  Dogs.

• 42:46Josh Horowitz?

Correct. You're your dog mom, right?

• 42:48Speaker 03

Yes, and I'm allergic to cats, so just by...

• 42:51Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 42:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:51Josh Horowitz?

I'm with you. Uh, what do you collect, if anything?

• 42:55Speaker 03

  What do I collect?

• 42:58Speaker 03

  Um, like, on purpose?

• 43:02Josh Horowitz?

Either way, you can say it however you like.

• 43:05Speaker 03

  On purpose?

• 43:06Josh Horowitz?

  Dirty clothes?

• 43:06Speaker 03

Probably like, storage units? And suitcases?

• 43:10Josh Horowitz?

  You're a hoarder, you're a little bit.

• 43:11Speaker 03

I am a hoarder, actually. My best friend will say that.

• 43:13Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 43:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 43:15Josh Horowitz?

Uh, do you have a favorite video game of all time?

• 43:18Speaker 03

  Um, of all time? I-

• 43:22Josh Horowitz?

The one you've sunk the most time into, maybe?

• 43:23Speaker 03

The one that I've sunk the most time into is Returnal.

• 43:26Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 43:27Speaker 03

Great game. It's a first-person shooter, uh, like rogue style.

• 43:31Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 43:32Speaker 03

  It's very cool.

• 43:32Josh Horowitz?

Okay. Uh, actually, this is the Dakota Johnson memorial question. She asked me this once. Would you rather have a mouthful of bees or one bee in your butt?

• 43:40Speaker 03

  One bee in my butt?

• 43:41Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 43:41Speaker 03

  I think.

• 43:42Josh Horowitz?

  That's the correct answer.

• 43:42Speaker 03

  Because, oh, I-

• 43:44Josh Horowitz?

  I mean, I, I think it's the correct answer.

• 43:45Speaker 03

I think it's the correct answer, because also, like, if you've ever gotten waxed, you know it doesn't really hurt.

• 43:52Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 43:52Speaker 03

So I think that, like, I think that it's pretty safe.

• 43:56Josh Horowitz?

Okay, I'll take your word for it. Um, what's the wallpaper?

• 43:59Speaker 03

  Try it!

• 43:59Josh Horowitz?

Oh, okay, yeah, next time, next podcast.

• 44:01Speaker 03

  Yes, yes, yes.

• 44:01Josh Horowitz?

What's the wallpaper on your phone?

• 44:03Speaker 03

Uh, it's a bunch of pictures. It's the little slideshow. Um, but, I think the last one-

• 44:11Josh Horowitz?

Oh! Is that Lisa Rinna? Should we get it?

• 44:13Speaker 03

Oh my god, should we? Oh, wait, I do have to show it.

• 44:15Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, well, why don't you, why don't we grab it?

• 44:16Speaker 03

  Yeah, if you don't mind.

• 44:16Josh Horowitz?

  We'll grab it.

• 44:17Speaker 03

This is, um, my friends, we were all, um, in Disney Channel, or Disney Channel. We were in Disney Channel for Odessa's birthday, and we, um, we, uh, I, we, there were shirts that we had that we were wearing around Disney World that said, "Stop being not my birthday."

• 44:36Josh Horowitz?

  Love it.

• 44:37Speaker 03

And we were calling it "Odessa's Dwap."

• 44:41Speaker 03

Disney World Adventure Party. This is from, like, Italy. Beautiful film photo that I took. I can't see so much else. Who's that? Oh, there's a big group chat that happened. That's why my phone was going off.

• 44:56Josh Horowitz?

  There you go.

• 44:57Speaker 03

Um, uh, from Tommy Hilfiger in Canada, a group of great people.

• 45:03Josh Horowitz?

Oh, is that, uh, Patrick Schwarzenegger, that campaign?

• 45:05Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 45:05Josh Horowitz?

Nice. Did you watch White Lotus yet?

• 45:08Speaker 03

I didn't make it all the way through.

• 45:10Josh Horowitz?

  Okay, okay.

• 45:12Josh Horowitz?

  Tom and Jerry?

• 45:13Speaker 03

Yes. I really like this picture. That's how I feel. I think I have, oh, my, my pop up.

• 45:23Josh Horowitz?

  Sweet.

• 45:24Speaker 03

More doop. Lucas. He's so cute, Lucas. He probably said something really unhinged.

• 45:32Josh Horowitz?

We, we connected recently on social media. He was very sweet to me.

• 45:35Speaker 03

  He's awesome.

• 45:35Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, I don't think we've met in person, but one of those days.

• 45:37Speaker 03

Oh my god, he is, he is such a trip. He and I together, absolutely diabolical.

• 45:41Josh Horowitz?

  Really?

• 45:41Speaker 03

Yes. It's like the Sagittarius Gemini excellency.

• 45:44Josh Horowitz?

Okay, who's the last actor you were mistaken for?

• 45:48Speaker 03

  Not an actor.

• 45:49Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 45:49Speaker 03

  But you know, um,

• 45:52Speaker 03

she's a girl on TikTok, um, who, who went viral, um, let's see. Balin, Balin Dupri.

• 46:02Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 46:03Speaker 03

She went viral, um, because she would make TikToks, um, about like having Tourette's. And she's really fucking funny.

• 46:15Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 46:15Speaker 03

You know, and she like, she would be making a TikTok about, you know, the hand sanitizer, uh, that she was just gifted, and then she would like take it and like steer the Titan, and that was when the Titans are merciful, like, you know, and, and, um, wind it up, uh, she's just very, she's very funny. I think there, she actually, I could be wrong, she might be doing a reality show.

• 46:39Speaker 03

She's very, very cute. So I got, they thought I was her. So they had looked at, was it, I was at Burger King, and they said, wind it up. And I was like, wind it up, yeah.

• 46:49Josh Horowitz?

I'll take that, I like her.

• 46:50Speaker 03

I love wind it up. You know her too. And they're like, what? Aren't you her? I was like, no, but thank you.

• 46:57Josh Horowitz?

  I appreciate it nonetheless.

• 46:59Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 46:59Josh Horowitz?

Worst noted director has ever given you?

• 47:03Speaker 03

  Talk like a person. Period.

• 47:08Josh Horowitz?

How did you respond, how did you handle that?

• 47:09Speaker 03

I was like, I was like,

• 47:12Speaker 03

yeah. It was like the Brittany Broski meme, it was like, uh.

• 47:19Speaker 03

  Totally.

• 47:20Josh Horowitz?

And finally, spirit of happy sad confused, an actor who always makes you happy. See them on screen, you're instantly happier.

• 47:27Speaker 03

I love, um, uh, uh, shit, bug.

• 47:32Josh Horowitz?

Love that guy, love that guy.

• 47:33Speaker 03

  He's awesome. Pierce Brosnan.

• 47:36Josh Horowitz?

  Great.

• 47:36Speaker 03

  I love when he.

• 47:37Josh Horowitz?

You just saw Mamma Mia, that's why you're thinking.

• 47:39Speaker 03

When you're gone. And I think it's really good.

• 47:42Josh Horowitz?

One of the great singers of our time, Pierce Brosnan.

• 47:44Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 47:45Josh Horowitz?

  He committed.

• 47:45Speaker 03

  He committed.

• 47:46Josh Horowitz?

Movie that makes you sad, we kind of talked about this a little bit, what's the go to movie that makes you sad?

• 47:50Speaker 03

The one that is, the one that makes me cry, How to Train Your Dragon. But it's like, happy sad confused. Very happy sad.

• 47:58Josh Horowitz?

  Yes, okay.

• 47:58Speaker 03

  I'm like.

• 47:59Josh Horowitz?

Uh, and finally, again, we kind of covered this, but food that makes you confused. You see it on a menu, you don't get it.

• 48:05Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 48:05Josh Horowitz?

Why do, why do, why do people eat this? Is it pork? Is that what you're saying or no?

• 48:08Speaker 03

  No, squid, I think.

• 48:10Josh Horowitz?

  Squid.

• 48:10Speaker 03

  Or like jellyfish.

• 48:12Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 48:12Speaker 03

  Or shark.

• 48:13Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 48:14Speaker 03

You know, some of these like, but, but also I'm not one to talk, I love sear.

• 48:19Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 48:20Speaker 03

I have plans for this dinner already tonight.

• 48:22Josh Horowitz?

You're already thinking about it. Half of your brain on those conversations, I'm like, sear shit in three hours.

• 48:26Speaker 03

It's so good. It's a box of just uni that comes with the rice.

• 48:31Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've had that, those are great.

• 48:33Speaker 03

I'm so excited. Also, I know we have to be done.

• 48:35Josh Horowitz?

  It's okay.

• 48:35Speaker 03

But, did you know, well, I was reading, um, okay, I was watching a TikTok, but that someone was saying that the James Webb telescope has found, uh, has discovered something that is evidence or could be strong evidence towards the fact that our universe is, is a pocket universe in a black hole.

• 48:58Josh Horowitz?

You can't just leave a conversation ending on that note. That's the beginning of a conversation, not the end of a conversation.

• 49:04Speaker 03

I've been telling everyone, I'm like, oh my God, but that means then there's a, it could be that there are other black holes in our universe, there are also pocket universes, and then we're just.

• 49:14Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 49:15Speaker 03

  Right, right.

• 49:16Josh Horowitz?

Great. By the way, it's all a simulation. Thanks, Madeline. Appreciate it. Well, I'm gonna keep doing my podcast in the pocket universe, whatever this is.

• 49:25Speaker 03

I know. But like, what if, why can't we be in the pocket universe with like fairies and shit?

• 49:29Josh Horowitz?

I'd love to be anywhere else than whatever universe this is right now. Let's be frank.

• 49:34Speaker 03

  Right. Anywhere else.

• 49:35Josh Horowitz?

Anywhere else. But we did it. We did the podcast. Thank you for making time. Enjoy your sea urchin.

• 49:41Speaker 03

Oh my god, I'm so excited.

• 49:42Josh Horowitz?

  It's gonna be great.

• 49:43Speaker 03

Anti-village, I'm gonna get all of it.

• 49:45Josh Horowitz?

It's gonna be so good. Next time I'm gonna dress to the nines for you because you just, you brought it.

• 49:50Speaker 03

I did. I gave, I gave, you know, it's giving something ever.

• 49:55Josh Horowitz?

  It's giving a lot.

• 49:58Speaker 03

  It's giving a lot. Bye.

• 49:59Josh Horowitz?

  Thanks, Madeline.

• 50:00Speaker 03

  Bye, bye.

• 50:03Speaker 04

And so ends another edition of Happy, Sad, Confused. Remember to review, rate, and subscribe to this show on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm a big podcast person. I'm Daisy Ridley and I definitely wasn't pressured to do this by Josh.
