We're gonna try to focus on making sure that the template is perfect, so that

• 0:45Theo Von?

it just feels good and that you enjoy it and that you keep it and wear it for a long time. Yeah, those are really great. I want you to check them out. They're at theovonstore.com. And thank you for your support if you choose to purchase one. Today's guest made me feel welcome when I got here to Tennessee. He's arguably the most popular musician on the planet. He's the East Tennessee Elvis, baby. You know what he is. I mean, he's so prolific. He's very competitive, and I admire his attention to detail. Today's guest is one of a kind, Mr. Morgan Wallen.

• 1:43Theo Von?

Yeah, dude, good to see you, bro.

• 1:45Speaker 01

Good to see you too, man.

• 1:46Theo Von?

Yeah, it's awesome, man. What's been going on? Yeah, my mom is visiting for my birthday. We went to the Opry.

• 1:52Speaker 01

  You did?

• 1:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:54Speaker 01

  Cool, man.

• 1:54Theo Von?

It was cool, dude. Trace Atkins.

• 1:56Speaker 01

Does she come up here a lot? Or no?

• 1:58Theo Von?

No, she hadn't been here since I moved here.

• 1:59Speaker 01

  It was your birthday?

• 2:00Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 2:01Speaker 01

  Oh, happy birthday.

• 2:01Theo Von?

  Yeah, thanks.

• 2:02Speaker 01

  When was your birthday?

• 2:02Theo Von?

Uh, two days ago, March 19th.

• 2:05Speaker 01

Okay, cool. Yeah, my parents are in town as well, but I'm trying to, I'm trying to get them to move here, so.

• 2:10Theo Von?

  Oh, you are?

• 2:11Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm working on that. That's, that's been going on for the last few weeks now, so we'll see.

• 2:15Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah, dude, your dad's so funny, dude.

• 2:18Speaker 01

  Yeah, he's the man.

• 2:19Theo Von?

He's unreal. Dude, cause we went on, what was, um, we went with, uh, is it Morgan Wallen, the foundation, Morgan Wallen Foundation?

• 2:25Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Up there to Greenville area.

• 2:28Theo Von?

  Yeah, during the flood stuff?

• 2:29Speaker 01

  During Hurricane Helene, yeah.

• 2:30Theo Von?

And your dad came and, um, it was awesome, man. They had the food truck, they had, you know, they were doing food drives and, um, I met some people up there, went and visited the houses and stuff. That was awesome.

• 2:41Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. That was, uh, that was a cool day, man.

• 2:44Theo Von?

  It was good.

• 2:45Speaker 01

I wish we did stuff like that more often, you know? I guess we could, but.

• 2:48Theo Von?

Well, I think that's why, I mean, you have a foundation that can do it when you're not able to do it.

• 2:52Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 2:53Theo Von?

But yeah, I agree with you. It feels like.

• 2:54Speaker 01

It feels good to actually get out and do it yourself, you know what I mean?

• 2:57Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 2:58Speaker 01

It can be, it can be a little stressful, you know? You gotta, you gotta keep it timed up right to where you're not sticking around in one place too long and all that stuff, you know? You gotta be a little tack, tack full about it, but it's, it's, uh, it's good.

• 3:10Theo Von?

Yeah, and Tony Battello, is that his name?

• 3:12Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 3:12Theo Von?

Yeah, dude, he came out. He's the best.

• 3:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, he's cool too, man.

• 3:15Theo Von?

  Dude, he's cool.

• 3:16Speaker 01

He always helps with, with, with stuff involving our foundation and we stay in touch on a regular basis.

• 3:21Theo Von?

  Y'all do.

• 3:22Speaker 01

Yeah, he, uh, I tried to invite him to a, uh, a bracket the other day. I was like, you're probably not allowed to do this, are you? He said, no. Okay, alright, man, sorry.

• 3:32Theo Von?

Oh, that's, I'm in that bracket, baby.

• 3:33Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, yeah. I tried to invite him into that bracket.

• 3:35Theo Von?

You and me are tied right now. I think we're in first.

• 3:37Speaker 01

Yeah, we are. I saw that. I checked this morning.

• 3:40Theo Von?

Dude, yeah, one thing that was crazy about your dad though, he was fasting whenever we're doing that.

• 3:45Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 3:45Theo Von?

He'd been on a forty day fast.

• 3:47Speaker 01

Yeah, he's done that for like as long as I can remember. I remember him like when I was growing up, he would just go and like stay out in the, in the wild, you know, in a tent or something and just drink apple juice or something. I'm like, dude, how, how is this possible, you know?

• 4:03Theo Von?

That doesn't sound like, that sounds like hiding from your wife.

• 4:06Speaker 01

Yeah, he needed some space. Didn't have enough money to get, get a trailer or something.

• 4:12Theo Von?

But I that was I just didn't because it was crazy because I'd just been looking into fasting because people say it like if you fast it'll help like eat away the cancer cells that are in your body. So when he was like, I've been on 40 days.

• 4:22Speaker 01

Well, they say that that only takes like a couple of days to do that, what you're talking about, right?

• 4:26Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:26Speaker 01

Like if you fast for a couple of days, it'll do that.

• 4:28Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:28Speaker 01

  I think.

• 4:29Theo Von?

Yeah, yeah, no, that's right. You're once you get past 48 hours.

• 4:32Speaker 01

Yeah, I think what he was doing it for was um spiritual purposes.

• 4:37Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:37Speaker 01

That's what he used to do it for, and that's probably what he's doing it for now.

• 4:40Theo Von?

Yeah, a team of researchers from MSK has shown for the first time that fasting can reprogram the metabolism of natural killer cells, helping them to survive in the harsh environment in and around tumors while improving their cancer fighting ability. But it just blew my mind. I was like, God, this dude's on 40 days. Put this dude back in the Bible.

• 4:56Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, dude, I don't I don't understand how that's that's physically possible. You know, I I pretty much have been for the last little while fast until, you know, noon. I'll do I'll do my workout and like everything in the first part of the day without eating.

• 5:11Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 5:11Speaker 01

But I can't imagine going a whole day without doing it, to be honest.

• 5:16Theo Von?

He's got some bandwidth on him, man.

• 5:17Speaker 01

Yeah, he's a pretty strong willed guy.

• 5:20Theo Von?

He's always so chipper, dude. Yeah, I just I'd love to get to hang out with him. That was probably and he tells stories from like being in the military and stuff. Some of that stuff is bonkers.

• 5:27Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, some of that stuff ain't gonna be repeated on here. He makes me look calm.

• 5:31Theo Von?

Dude, that's the crazy part. You start talking to him, you're like, oh, well, some of this checks out.

• 5:36Speaker 01

  For sure, it checks out.

• 5:37Theo Von?

We don't need a DNA test in this family. Um, but you said they're moving down here?

• 5:42Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm trying to get them to. Um, we'll see how it goes, but I'm I'm working on it. I've been talking to him about it for a while. Um, but you know, just somebody uprooting their entire life to come somewhere. But me and my sister live down here. It's a it's a tricky, you know, it's always tricky getting stuff like that to happen, but we're working on it. Yeah.

• 6:00Theo Von?

Yeah, that's a lot, man. Um. Is it, uh, I know you have a son Indio.

• 6:06Speaker 01

Indi, yeah. His name's Indigo, but I call him Indy.

• 6:08Theo Von?

Indy, right. What's that been like, dude? Cause that's been probably one of the biggest things in your life, I'm sure. I mean, outside of your, I mean, like, yeah, that's crazy.

• 6:17Speaker 01

  Yeah, I think.

• 6:18Theo Von?

I don't even know how to ask that question.

• 6:19Speaker 01

I think it just gets better and better as, you know, the older he gets. I mean, it's always been cool, but you know, when he's, he's four years old now. He'll be five this year. Just the personality that keeps coming out and the relationship that you build, you know, and he's, he's got a little, he's got a little sass on him. Like he's got a, he's got a little attitude, you know, which is, I like, I like that spunk, you know? Like the, uh, yesterday my dad was telling him,

• 6:43Speaker 01

he was trying to get him to eat. It's a, it's kind of a task to get him to eat, to sit still long enough to eat, you know? And my dad was like, hey man, if you don't eat, I'm gonna put you in, put you in the bedroom. You gotta go to sleep or whatever, you know? I don't know exactly what my dad said to him, but he looked at my dad and he said, I don't want you to stay here anymore.

• 7:03Speaker 01

But I just, I mean, like, it's just hilarious, you know?

• 7:07Theo Von?

And you're behind your dad, you're telling him like.

• 7:09Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, just anything to keep him, keep him rocking, but he's a, he's a sweetheart, but whenever you get him, yeah, oh yeah. He, uh, he's almost too sweet. He, he's too nice to everyone. Like people he doesn't know, you know? Like, hey man, we don't like everybody, man. Uh, we don't know these people, man.

• 7:28Theo Von?

  Stranger danger, baby.

• 7:29Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. So I'm trying to teach him a little bit of that, but.

• 7:31Theo Von?

He's got, he's wild, definitely. He emailed me the other day asking me to send him some zins. I was like, dude, you gotta.

• 7:36Speaker 01

Yeah, uh, yeah. I couldn't believe he figured out, you know, how to get ahold of the iPad like that. I'm not, I'm not really big on letting him, you know, sit around with an iPad, but I guess he got my, my nieces or something. She probably had him send, she, or he probably had her send the email, you know? Hey Haven, type this out for me.

• 7:57Speaker 01

  Threes or sixes?

• 7:59Theo Von?

Does he, yeah, yeah, does he?

• 8:04Speaker 01

I just downgraded to the threes, man. I'm weaning myself off.

• 8:07Theo Von?

  Are you?

• 8:08Speaker 01

I don't know. I'd just be putting two in.

• 8:13Theo Von?

That's just a little bit of mouth math, homie.

• 8:16Theo Von?

But you'll see a dude with like 11 threes and I'm like, bitch, just get a damn 20 or something.

• 8:21Speaker 01

  That's like, uh, Andrew.

• 8:23Theo Von?

  Oh, your cousin?

• 8:24Speaker 01

Yes, yes. He'll have a multitude in there.

• 8:29Speaker 01

He's only on the citrus, though.

• 8:31Theo Von?

He's hilarious, dude. Well, I'll ask you about him in a little bit, man.

• 8:36Theo Von?

Does your son have like a favorite song of yours or anything?

• 8:38Speaker 01

Yeah, it's a song that's not out yet. Like this, this album right that I've been working on, this is the first time where he's, it seems like he's really starting to put two and two together, you know?

• 8:48Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:50Speaker 01

I would come home after I'd been writing and I'd show him songs this time. This is the first time that I, that he's ever cared. You know, and I was, there's a song called Eyes Are Closed on my, on my record and I, I brought it home that night. You know, we wrote it that day and took it home that night and I was just playing. I wasn't really playing it for him. I just had it kind of playing in the background because it was my first time hearing the demo of what we had just done that day. And he was in the background and he kind of, you know, moseyed on over there and started being like, ooh, what's this, you know? And then after it was done, he said, I like that song, daddy.

• 9:20Theo Von?

  Really?

• 9:21Speaker 01

And it was like the first time he had ever done that, you know? So it was a special moment for me, something I'll never forget. And he said, play that again. You know, and I was like, yeah, this song's a hit for me no matter what, you know? So, um, that was the first time I had really seen him, like all those, you know, dots start connecting.

• 9:40Theo Von?

  Yeah. I bet that's special.

• 9:42Speaker 01

For a while, he, uh, he thought that Soul by John Michael Montgomery, he thought that was me singing. He thought, he was like, play daddy's fast song. He called it the fast song.

• 9:55Speaker 01

He thought that was me singing. I said, damn, man. I mean, that dude sounds pretty good, but come on.

• 10:03Theo Von?

And then he's just bidding on pigs at his daycare?

• 10:05Speaker 01

  Yeah, probably.

• 10:07Theo Von?

Well, I went night in the Grand Canyon.

• 10:09Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, that. He called it the fast song and I had to finally broke it to him. I said, that ain't me, dude.

• 10:15Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. And in the, and the email he sent me, he's like, yeah, you need to listen to my father's hit Cotton Eye Joe as well.

• 10:21Speaker 01

Well, we are from Knoxville, you know, he's seen that sign a few times.

• 10:25Theo Von?

That checks out, man. Um, as you make more music, so the new album, I'm the Problem.

• 10:31Speaker 01

  Mm hmm.

• 10:32Theo Von?

As you make more music, because you have been so like prolific, I think that's the word. What does prolific mean?

• 10:38Speaker 01

I think that's the right word, too.

• 10:39Theo Von?

Okay. But I don't know if either one of us should be.

• 10:43Speaker 01

If they were the dictionary guys?

• 10:44Theo Von?

  Yeah, definitely.

• 10:48Speaker 01

  It's like.

• 10:49Theo Von?

Producing much fruit, producing much fruit foliage or offspring, actually it says.

• 10:55Speaker 01

I ain't been that prolific in that term, but yeah.

• 10:58Theo Von?

Presenting one plentiful, it says, uh, producing many works. But is it, does it get tougher to like, okay, how do I have, do I not have a song that sounds that's similar to a song I previously had? Cause when you have so many songs, does that get a little bit tough or what's that like?

• 11:12Speaker 01

Yeah, I think it does, you know?

• 11:14Theo Von?

Like, has there been a great song that comes that's like you guys have put together and then you're like, oh, man, it's just a little too close to this or?

• 11:22Speaker 01

Well, for this album, I feel like I just didn't let it get to that point, you know, if, at least if I was a part of writing it, you know? I think, I can't remember exactly how many ones I was and wasn't a part of writing.

• 11:34Speaker 01

But if a song came in from like as a pitch, I kind of knew immediately. I was like, oh, these people are writing. This might've made my last record, maybe, probably not, but you know, it's like, it's like, that's what it felt like to me.

• 11:48Theo Von?

  Right.

• 11:49Speaker 01

A lot of the pitches were that.

• 11:51Theo Von?

Yeah, cause I guess people are just going, they don't know where your next step is and who you are.

• 11:54Speaker 01

There was, there was a select group of writers that I kind of, you know, told a little bit what I was trying to accomplish, you know? And I feel like that, that really helped me, uh, find a certain, one of the sounds of that's on my record. But for me, when I'm writing, I kind of, you know, you, you can kind of tell from the idea almost if, if the song is. Be similar or not, you know, and that was something that was tougher for me because a lot of, you know, a lot of the things that were successful and that were easy in the past were just like, whiskey drinking, you know, like all that stuff. And I've kind of just almost explored every angle of that. That's that's possible, you know, like there's still, there's still some possible ways to get, get that in there. But I tried to, I tried to dig deeper, man. And you know, and I, and I, a lot of my guys that I write with, we kind of kept a,

• 12:39Speaker 01

at least for me, when I was writing, we kept five or six guys. We didn't always write together, but you know, that, that kind of core group of guys, we, we all just had a good, good sense of what we were shooting for and just trying not to say the same thing that I've said before and, you know, incorporating new things. So I feel like it was harder, you know, I had to work harder.

• 12:57Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 12:59Theo Von?

Like, what do you mean, like finding new, like drop in?

• 13:01Speaker 01

Yeah, just finding new angles and just thinking up ideas, you know, and there's, you know, or just maybe somebody had an idea and they brought it in and I'm like, well, that's pretty good. But like trying to find a way to, to make it, something different, you know, like it would, sounds like that would idea would have been on the last record, but maybe I can flip this or flip that into making it something that's more unique, you know? So just trying to dig deeper and not just, not just saying, oh yeah, not just being content with something, you know?

• 13:27Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah. Taking it easy.

• 13:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, just digging deeper and.

• 13:30Theo Von?

Cause you can kind of, yeah, it's funny. I was talking to Charlie Hanson the other night. Dude, that guy's, bro, him and Marissa, is that is Marissa?

• 13:37Speaker 01

  Yeah, Marissa, yeah.

• 13:38Theo Von?

  Bro, they're hilarious, bro.

• 13:40Speaker 01

  They are hilarious.

• 13:41Theo Von?

  She's so funny, dude.

• 13:44Speaker 01

She kind of keeps him in check, I feel like.

• 13:46Theo Von?

It's the pairing, both of them, uh, cause he's kind of so kind of rough around the edges. Like, I don't, maybe that's a crazy, it's not a crazy thing to say about him.

• 13:55Speaker 01

No, definitely not. I think he'd probably agree with that.

• 13:57Theo Von?

Yeah, he's, he's just so, he's so real. He's just.

• 14:01Speaker 01

  He's a pretty blunt guy.

• 14:01Theo Von?

  Yes.

• 14:02Speaker 01

  Pretty blunt.

• 14:03Theo Von?

  Yes, he is.

• 14:04Speaker 01

Which I've always loved that about him, you know, when he first got to, to town, I guess that was probably, we wrote, if I know me, I mean, that had to be either 17 or 18 when I first met him.

• 14:14Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 14:14Speaker 01

And 2017 or 18, not when I was 17 or 18 years old, but.

• 14:20Speaker 01

You know, he kinda, I think he came from LA, so he had like this, I don't know, I guess it's different out there, you know? If it seems like it's like a dick measuring contest out there a lot.

• 14:32Theo Von?

Well, people are probably, yeah, yeah, that could be true.

• 14:34Speaker 01

And I think he had brought a lot of that mindset to Nashville, you know? And whenever we were first riding, I'm like, hey, man, you know, you ain't gotta be, you ain't gotta be like that, you know? Like, it ain't, it ain't like that here.

• 14:44Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 14:45Speaker 01

You know, so we just, and I would give him a hard time when he would be acting like that. I'd always, you know, talk shit and stuff, so we just became instant friends, like that kind of friend, you know?

• 14:52Theo Von?

I could see that a hundred percent, dude.

• 14:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:54Theo Von?

Cause what did I say? Oh, he gotten married, right? And his wife one night, I think that she probably had a cocktail or two and invited me to their wedding, right?

• 15:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:01Theo Von?

And I had to work that weekend. But I saw pictures, you win, I think Hardy win, it looked like a good time.

• 15:06Speaker 01

I mean, it was a beautiful wedding, man, I mean, it really, really beautiful.

• 15:10Theo Von?

It was on an island somewhere.

• 15:11Speaker 01

Yeah, in Alamo Rata. It was like, you know, you heard of that show Bloodline?

• 15:15Theo Von?

  Uh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 15:16Speaker 01

It was the, it was that compound where that was filmed.

• 15:19Theo Von?

  Oh, damn.

• 15:20Speaker 01

  So it was legit, um.

• 15:21Theo Von?

God. Yeah, but, and then so I, when I saw him, I said, hey, man, I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the wedding. He's like, well, you know, we weren't really expecting you there.

• 15:29Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't know if they, I was in the damn wedding, I don't know if they was expecting me there. I showed up about an hour before it was supposed to start and left before it was over, but I, uh, I was proud to be there, man, it was, it was cool, I, I, I really appreciated it.

• 15:43Theo Von?

It was, but he's just like, look, man, we don't, we don't super know each other that good, he said.

• 15:47Speaker 01

  Right.

• 15:47Theo Von?

But it was, it was so like just the realest shit ever. He's like, and if we become better friends and, you know, and that happens, then yeah, man, I'd expect you to be at my, you know, if I get divorced or if I, if I do renew of the vows, I said.

• 16:00Speaker 01

I'd expect you to be at my divorce now.

• 16:02Theo Von?

Dude, it was just like, and I was like, dude, you're so right. I was like, and it didn't make me wanna get to know him more, cause it was like just cutting through the bullshit.

• 16:10Speaker 01

I love that. He's, that's a definite, that's an accurate way of describing him.

• 16:14Theo Von?

Which I think is probably what makes him a good songwriter too, cause it's like, you gotta like, if you use too much bull, it's like, if you can cut through the bullshit.

• 16:22Speaker 01

Well, yeah, he's, he's, he'll definitely tell you like,

• 16:26Speaker 01

Or if you're, if you're on something, he's like, man, that sucks, you know? And that's what I, I mean, I feel like I have a pretty good gauge of, of, you know, what's good and what's not. But like, it's, it's nice to have another person in the room who will tell you straight up.

• 16:37Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 16:37Speaker 01

Cause especially when you, when you do get to like, get to this level, people sometimes don't check you the way they should, you know? They'll just let you rock with it and, you know, whatever.

• 16:47Theo Von?

Damn dude. No, it's just interesting to hear you say that. Um, I had a guy a few years ago, I was, I'd taken out a guy, we, we went to lunch and he's married and we're both straight, but we went and had lunch together and, um,

• 17:00Speaker 01

  Thanks for clarifying, man.

• 17:01Theo Von?

But yeah, he was just, he's been like a manager of like some of the most popular comedians over time. And I was talking to him, he goes, well, you kind of have to evolve with your audience. He's like, if you, you know, going back to kind of what you said earlier about like, you know, some people probably present songs to you. That would have been great an album or two ago. It's like, damn, that would have been, but it's like you.

• 17:19Speaker 01

Yeah. I mean, you can't blame, you know, you can't blame them. You know what I mean? You can't expect them to know what's in your head, what you're gonna do next.

• 17:26Theo Von?

Yeah. And they only have like the footprints that they've seen you leave so far make that they can even judge on.

• 17:31Speaker 01

Right. Like I've heard wasted on you. I've heard that 2.0 18,000 times since, you know, in, in my inbox. Um, a lot of them don't even make it to me because it gets snipped before it even gets to me. But I've, I've heard plenty of them, you know?

• 17:46Theo Von?

  Oh yeah, for sure.

• 17:47Speaker 01

I, I understand it, but you know, you can't, you can't settle like that.

• 17:51Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 17:52Speaker 01

But you also don't want to go too far either. Cause then your fans are like, dude, you know, what's,

• 17:57Theo Von?

Yeah, Chris, what's his name? Chris Gaines?

• 17:59Speaker 01

Is he just taking a lot of mushrooms or something? You know, like you can get that guy too.

• 18:03Theo Von?

This man, it's one time he said, he goes, one thing you have to, you have to evolve with your audience. If you try to hide that you're evolving or that you're growing, cause your audience also grows, right?

• 18:12Speaker 01

  Well, yeah.

• 18:13Theo Von?

So he's like, if you try, it's, it's, it can be a trap sometimes to try to just, uh, fit your, fit your current feet back in your old footprints. And I just thought it was interesting to hear somebody say that I'd never really thought about. Cause sometimes you're like, oh, this worked and like, I gotta stay right here, but you're not there anymore, you know?

• 18:29Speaker 01

Yeah, and I mean, even if it's just subtle changes, it don't have to be like huge things, you know?

• 18:34Theo Von?

Yeah, you don't have to come out and do like a Mozart style.

• 18:37Speaker 01

Right, right, you know, like my last album, I had plenty of trap beats and stuff like that. This time I was like, hey, man, let's just, let's tone that back a little bit. I'm tired, I'm tired of it, I'm tired of hearing it. So if I'm tired of it, they probably tired of hearing it.

• 18:48Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 18:48Speaker 01

You know, so just like certain things that you can still get that same swag or that same, you can accomplish certain things without doing the same exact thing, you know? So it's just simple stuff like that in, in some cases.

• 18:59Theo Von?

Do you feel like you've always had a pretty good like uh instinct about that kind of stuff? Like, is that something that you think you really have, like you kind of can feel?

• 19:07Speaker 01

I like to think so, man. I, I, I feel like I can tell when something's getting tired, you know, and.

• 19:12Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 19:13Speaker 01

  I, I don't.

• 19:14Theo Von?

  That's a gift, man.

• 19:15Speaker 01

Yeah, I guess so, maybe God gave me that, I, I don't know. Um, but I've also, I've also learned from people in my, in my, you know, that I've been around for the last 10 years, who have, who I feel like I've learned from and that, that have helped me with that as well. You know, I don't think I was just fully just, I think I had a knack for it already, but I think I've, you know, developed it and learned from people as well, so.

• 19:35Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 19:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 19:35Theo Von?

I, I've always had a tough time, like uh, cause I've always been like a do it yourself kind of guy. Like I feel like I know what I'm doing, like I work hard, but then recently I've had to like, realize I need help more. It's like, I can't always give this guy a hard time, I need, I need to, you know what I'm saying? Like I can't always butt up against every wall, you know, cause I'll just do that, it's just my nature, cause I don't want help a lot of times.

• 19:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 19:58Theo Von?

  Man, that shit has been.

• 19:59Speaker 01

  That's, that's a big, that's a big deal.

• 20:01Theo Von?

Yeah, it's been getting better though recently.

• 20:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:03Theo Von?

Even just like, just little things, I just started noticing it's getting a little bit better. And it's, and the irony is, everything's been easier.

• 20:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:10Theo Von?

The more I let help come in.

• 20:12Speaker 01

I think there's certain areas in my life, like with music, I've always kind of, I've been a good teammate. Um, I don't know why that is, you know, maybe I've just always liked the, I like the. The aspect of feeling like you're on a team, I guess because I played sports and stuff so much growing up, you know, like for me, I enjoy the camaraderie of making music with my buddies and doing all that stuff, you know, so I've always kind of enjoyed the, the, the help and the team aspect of that, but there's other areas in my life where I'd I'm like you, where I'm like, I don't, you know, whatever, no, no, I'm good.

• 20:45Theo Von?

  Yeah, I'm good.

• 20:46Speaker 01

It doesn't necessarily permeate throughout my entire life, it's just that one thing where I, I've been able to, to do that.

• 20:53Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh dude, I'll be sitting in the damn bottom of a hole. There'll be a thousand people out there with rope and I'll be like, I'm good.

• 20:59Speaker 01

Yeah, I'll find, I'll find one. There's one down, there's one down here somewhere.

• 21:05Theo Von?

And they'll be up there and they're like, what the hell?

• 21:07Speaker 01

  This dude's an idiot. Yeah.

• 21:10Theo Von?

Yeah, you're damn right I am.

• 21:11Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm proud of it too.

• 21:13Theo Von?

Yeah, then I'm proud of it, that's the best part. Is it tough in your life? I mean dude, your music, it's like, it's just been such a wave that like, I mean, you couldn't travel around town without seeing every guy at a stoplight, look like, you know, look like a Morgan Wallen, look like a like a, I'll hear your music everywhere, every store, like, are there moments for you where it's like, God, this guy's got a ton of it, like, it's like, where it almost, where you become too much for you, like, is that ever, like, you don't, does that make any sense?

• 21:44Speaker 01

Yeah, no, it does. Um, it's, it's still, it's still weird and there's parts of that that I don't like. I mean, I think anybody who has to deal with that, it's not ideal, you know, it's not ideal to go everywhere and even if you don't get, get like, you know, bothered, you, you, you were on edge the whole time because you thought you might, it's like, there's just not a lot of, not, there's, there's things that you just don't do.

• 22:07Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 22:07Speaker 01

You just don't do them anymore.

• 22:08Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 22:09Speaker 01

You know, but that's okay. That's why, that's why I've taken up hunting so much, I think, you know, because I can go be with my buddies. I'm in the middle of nowhere. I can be at ease. I can not stress out. Um, you just find ways to supplement it, I think, you know?

• 22:24Theo Von?

Yeah. It's kind of funny, you can't, you can't really go to a bar anymore because there'd be too much hassle. And it's probably best thing for you.

• 22:31Speaker 01

It's definitely the best thing for me, you know, I mean. If you if you're using a bar as a specific example, that's definitely that's definitely the best thing for me. I ain't been in a bar since since uh since the last time I was in a bar um that everybody knows about.

• 22:50Theo Von?

How is that? That feels like a bar right there.

• 22:51Speaker 01

It does. It sounds like an old country song for sure. Um but yeah, that's that's that's the most public time I was in a bar. That's the last time I was in a bar.

• 23:04Theo Von?

Dude, have you seen those uh there's an AI bar thing that makes uh country songs? There's one about a bar. You gotta see if you can pull it up. Um Trevin.

• 23:15Speaker 01

  Is it good?

• 23:16Theo Von?

Dude, it's pretty funny. Let me see. Uh.

• 23:21Theo Von?

This shit kinda surprised me. Uh one of them's about oh, it's the right one kitchen and the second one right there with the guy and the lady in the truck. Yeah. Turn that up for a second. It's just ridiculous.

• 23:31Speaker 01

Look, change it to whiskey and have Morgan Wallen sing it. That's the one of the number one comments.

• 23:40Theo Von?

Hey, start it back over and just turn it up a little bit. We can't hear it. But this is just like AI made this.

• 24:15Theo Von?

That's good, man. But it's just crazy that AI wrote this. Like, it's just somebody just put it in.

• 24:20Speaker 01

  Dude, AI is nuts, man.

• 24:21Theo Von?

  It's just making beer songs.

• 24:22Speaker 01

I was talking to my mom about AI this morning, but that that is, I mean, you know, could be a hit.

• 24:32Theo Von?

Hey, we're sitting here listening to it.

• 24:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:35Theo Von?

You know, I've been telling you about Moon Pay for a while now, haven't I? You've heard me talk about the Moon Pay app. And for good reason, it's incredibly user-friendly for buying and selling crypto. But today, I want to share more about what makes Moonpay so great. Some people say that Moonpay is the PayPal of crypto. Because just like you could use PayPal to buy anything on the internet, you can now use Moonpay to buy anything in crypto. Speaking of cool crypto apps, check out Vector, one of Moonpay's partners, that is shaking things up in the meme coin world. With Vector, you can connect your X account and see what your friends are trading, making it a social experience.

• 26:56Theo Von?

You can download Vector using code Theo and buy with Moonpay. Remember, while Moonpay makes buying crypto straightforward, it's important to do your own research and understand the risks involved. Crypto trading can be unpredictable, and you could lose your investment. Moonpay is a tool to facilitate your transactions, not a source of financial advice. Trade responsibly. • 28:27Theo Von?

What uh, what are you listening to right now, man? And everybody asks that.

• 28:32Speaker 01

Uh, it's a good question. I've been trying to find new stuff to listen to. I don't find a whole lot of new stuff to listen to. I've been listening to like old, I mostly only listen to music if I'm driving or if I'm working out. That's about the only time I listen to music, which I do those things decent amount, you know?

• 28:46Theo Von?

Kind of same, man. That's kind of when I do it.

• 28:47Speaker 01

  Yeah, um.

• 28:50Theo Von?

Steven Wilson I've been listening to.

• 28:52Speaker 01

  Yeah, he's, he's good. He's really good.

• 28:54Theo Von?

  Great lyricist.

• 28:54Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah. He's, he's a special talent.

• 28:56Theo Von?

That song about his, um, my father's son, Hardy played that one with him. God, that's good.

• 29:01Speaker 01

Yeah, that guy is really, really good.

• 29:03Theo Von?

Zack Top's voice is really amazing.

• 29:05Speaker 01

I don't, I don't listen to country music a whole lot. I think I've always kind of been that way. I know Zack, I know who Zack Top is and I do agree. He's, he's very, he's very solid.

• 29:13Theo Von?

Jesse Murph, Big X the Plug, you've heard that song?

• 29:15Speaker 01

  Uh, no.

• 29:17Theo Von?

They have a collab that's pretty dope.

• 29:18Speaker 01

  That's cool.

• 29:19Theo Von?

  Yeah, it's good.

• 29:20Speaker 01

Me and, me and Big X, we almost did a song, um, but I don't know, I didn't. I, I actually sent him a song and he didn't finish it, so I don't know. That's on him. Um, I guess, I don't know what he was doing.

• 29:33Theo Von?

  He was in jail.

• 29:34Speaker 01

  Did he?

• 29:34Theo Von?

  I think so.

• 29:35Speaker 01

For what? Not, not a long time, not long enough, not, I went to jail too, man.

• 29:44Theo Von?

Hey, if you behind bars, write a couple.

• 29:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 29:49Speaker 01

No, it was kind of spur of the moment thing though. I had, I got a song on my record called Miami and, um.

• 29:54Theo Von?

I haven't heard that one yet. They sent me a couple of the songs.

• 29:56Speaker 01

  Did they?

• 29:56Theo Von?

  Yeah, it's cool, man.

• 29:57Speaker 01

Miami is like a, it's a, it's a Keith Whitley flip. So it's like an old, you know Miami, Miami, that song? Have you ever heard that? Miami, Miami, what took you so long? I know you never call, um.

• 30:12Theo Von?

Oh, no, I've never seen it. People talk about Keith Whitley.

• 30:14Speaker 01

That's one of his like bigger type songs, I guess. But we flipped it and turned it into more of like a, it's a little more like rap style.

• 30:21Theo Von?

  Mm-hmm.

• 30:21Speaker 01

But, um. It's cool, man. I like it.

• 30:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 30:24Speaker 01

It's cool. It seemed like it could use a rapper on there. Um, I didn't end up using a feature. We ended up just making a second verse, but it's, it's one of those songs where I could, it wouldn't be surprising if we got like a remix and did that. You know what I mean? Once it's out and all that stuff.

• 30:39Theo Von?

Um, what you, you're famous, like you got, you said this whole, like these different walkouts that you did over the years, right? Really fun. And thanks for letting me be part of the one in Nashville.

• 30:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 30:49Theo Von?

Um, what would, do you have a favorite one that kind of stood out to you? And no judgment to any of them, but was it one?

• 30:54Speaker 01

I mean, Neyland Stadium is, you know, that's my home. That's where I grew up.

• 30:59Theo Von?

And Peyton put those pads on?

• 31:01Speaker 01

Peyton, that one was really good. The baseball team one we did was really good too, but that Peyton one.

• 31:06Speaker 01

That was, that was one of the, you know, it's hard to beat. Anything that happened those two nights at that stadium, I find myself just being like, yeah, that's, that's pretty, those, those are like the, you know, some of the best memories I've had.

• 31:18Theo Von?

  Yeah. Oh, yeah. So sick.

• 31:23Theo Von?

  He's so ridiculous.

• 31:24Speaker 01

Came out looking like he was actually about to go play with his facial expressions and stuff.

• 31:29Theo Von?

Hey, I think half the, the boosters wanted to sign, some, some boosters I think were trying to holler at him.

• 31:34Speaker 01

Probably. Hey, man, you got another year eligibility.

• 31:37Theo Von?

Go find something else. Uh, yeah, man, that was special, dude. So cool.

• 31:43Speaker 01

Yeah, but the walkouts are, they're just, the energy that comes from those, it just could last you. I mean, maybe not the entire show, but it'll last you a while, you know? And then once you get out there and compound the energy that comes along with the actual show, it's just, it's a, it's a rush.

• 32:01Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. Yeah, there's that coach right there that we put that water on.

• 32:06Speaker 01

  Yeah, Hypal?

• 32:06Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, he's thugging. He's big thugging right there.

• 32:09Speaker 01

  He was, dude.

• 32:11Theo Von?

Um, what else has happened? So, uh, you have your, the, the first time you're going to play your new album will be at Sand in My Boots Fest?

• 32:20Speaker 01

I'll play some of my album there.

• 32:21Theo Von?

  Okay.

• 32:23Speaker 01

You know, the album comes out on the 16th. I play on the 18th. I'll probably, I'll play some of the new stuff. That's, that's another thing, man. It's hard to, it's hard picking setlist at this point too.

• 32:35Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 32:35Speaker 01

You know, that gets real tricky.

• 32:37Theo Von?

Do you do that yourself? You kind of organize it?

• 32:39Speaker 01

Yeah, me and, me and my band do it together. Um.

• 32:44Speaker 01

You know, it's, a lot of it's, a lot of it's data driven, you know, cause you can see, you know which songs people, the majority of people wanna hear, like,

• 32:56Theo Von?

  Oh yeah.

• 32:56Speaker 01

You're always gonna miss somebody's favorite song. You're probably gonna miss my favorite song, you know, in some, in some sets. Um, just trying to figure out a way this year, since I'm, you know, I'm only playing 20 shows, so probably if I can, try to figure out a way to not play the same setlist all the time, you know, cause last year I, I'd interchanged a, a couple, but I think it's gonna be, I'm gonna make a bigger effort to try to make the setlist different for at least each night, you know, maybe not every single show be a different setlist, but like night one, night two.

• 33:30Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 33:30Speaker 01

Cause we're playing two nights in each place, so night, you know, trying to separate the two nights as far as music goes, should be, should be interesting, cause we've never done that before. We would, we would always just do like, maybe change one or two songs, you know, I'm thinking maybe a little more than that, so.

• 33:45Theo Von?

I like that. Yeah, that way if he wanted to come for both nights too, they could and hear different stuff.

• 33:48Speaker 01

Yeah, and a lot of people already do come both nights, so that'd be nice for them too.

• 33:51Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 33:52Speaker 01

There's really no way to do it perfectly. Somebody's gonna be disappointed or, you know, at, at any point, oh, they didn't play this song, or he didn't play that song, but trying our best. I'm not gonna play for four hours either, so, you know.

• 34:03Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 34:04Speaker 01

You gotta keep it within reason.

• 34:06Theo Von?

We gotta meet in the middle, guys.

• 34:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 34:08Theo Von?

  I'll do my best.

• 34:09Speaker 01

I don't wanna sing for four hours, you know. I'll, I'll, two hours about, maybe a little longer, two hours.

• 34:15Theo Von?

You put it on, man. I, I, like, my show, like, I'll be out there for maybe about an hour and 15 minutes is probably the sweet spot for me to be on stage, I think, with a comedian where they're just, cause we don't have any backup instruments, so people are like, fuck, somebody tapping a violin or something with this bastard, you know, people get a little bit tired of it. But I can't, and that burns me out, man. I used to do two shows, now I only do one a night, but I can't imagine.

• 34:37Speaker 01

Oh, you used to do two shows in one night?

• 34:39Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 34:40Speaker 01

  Back to back?

• 34:41Theo Von?

Yeah. When you first started as a comedian.

• 34:43Speaker 01

I think I remember you telling me that.

• 34:44Theo Von?

Yeah, I think like, even whenever I first came to town, you guys came one night and, uh, and saw me over at Zany's, man. That was cool. And you came and did my podcast early, man, and that helped me, uh, it helped give me some, uh, Just supporting the community.

• 34:57Speaker 01

I didn't even realize it was early because to me, I'd been listening to you for like a little while. You know, so I already knew you and knew your, knew about you and knew your story and everything. So it wasn't like, hey, come do this weird new guys podcast. I already knew who you were. So.

• 35:10Theo Von?

Well, it's just supported, you know, it was nice to have some support when I got into town.

• 35:13Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, no, I'm glad, I'm glad we got to do it, man. Damn, that was in 2020.

• 35:17Theo Von?

  Was it really?

• 35:18Speaker 01

  God.

• 35:19Theo Von?

Dang, bro. Look how happy you were.

• 35:22Speaker 01

  I think I got.

• 35:23Theo Von?

I'm joking, dude. We both look happy. As the pictures we picked, I look like I'm in pain. You look like you just came from the dentist.

• 35:28Speaker 01

  I look so white.

• 35:30Theo Von?

Yeah, I think we had some, we had bad lighting then.

• 35:32Speaker 01

  Golly.

• 35:34Theo Von?

  We bought some better.

• 35:35Speaker 01

  Looking pasty boy.

• 35:38Theo Von?

Um, what, uh, what's up with the free time now? So you go hunting? Where do you guys like to go?

• 35:44Speaker 01

Well, all over the place, man. I, I got a farm outside of town that we, that we've been, you know, planting and.

• 35:51Theo Von?

Oh, I think I saw some deer out there.

• 35:52Speaker 01

Getting all the agriculture right. Um.

• 35:57Speaker 01

I don't think you've been to my farm, have you?

• 35:59Theo Von?

Oh, no, I may have been to your house.

• 36:00Speaker 01

Yeah, you just been to my house, I believe. But yeah, so we got, we got deer and turkeys down there.

• 36:04Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 36:05Speaker 01

So that's, that's pretty much what it's geared towards. It's a really good, we, we bought it. It was already a really good, uh, turkey farm. And then we've just been adding a lot of the agriculture and all that stuff to try to make it a better deer farm.

• 36:19Theo Von?

What makes a good setup like that? Like what's the best way to make it set up where it's challenging to the hunter? But also like.

• 36:26Speaker 01

I mean, it's always going to be challenging when deer hunting, just, you know, because you only get to kill two, two bucks in a, in a season in a state, you know? So you're not, you're not just going to go out there and shoot everything you see.

• 36:38Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 36:38Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Like you, you may let a really good deer walk because you're trying to get a better, you know that there's a better deer in the area. Or you believe there's a better deer in the area, you know, like we have cameras and stuff now, so we can kind of take inventory on stuff, but, um. You're not, you don't, I think people, I don't know what people think about hunting, but like you don't just go out there and just massacre animals.

• 37:00Theo Von?

Right, you're not out there with a handgun or not?

• 37:02Speaker 01

No, but I mean, it's uh, it's interesting. I mean, the main thing is food. You know, food and bedding. That's, that's really all, that's what, those are the two main things that you need to have a good hunting farm.

• 37:14Theo Von?

  Okay.

• 37:14Speaker 01

As long as you got their, the, the type of bedding that they want, and preferably the type of food that they want, then you're gonna keep those deer on your farm, cause they ain't gonna, they don't need to leave to go find either one of those.

• 37:26Theo Von?

  Right, they're happy.

• 37:26Speaker 01

So they'll stay in their home range and they'll stay there and you can grow them, you know, like we don't wanna, you, you at least try to get them to be five years old. Um, and that's, that's minimum that what we want to do. Um, you know, depending on where you're at in the country, people will let them get older. Um, it's, it's a little different, I think, depending on your land, depending, cause you know, like if you, if you spend all this time and money and then you got your neighbor who, if your deer walks across to their property line, they might shoot it before you, you were planning on shooting it. So you know, it's, it's a little bit of a, it can be a little bit of a game.

• 38:00Theo Von?

So there can be property beef, property line beef like that?

• 38:03Speaker 01

Oh yeah, there's all kinds of that going on.

• 38:05Theo Von?

  Damn, I didn't hear that.

• 38:06Speaker 01

Yeah, there's a lot of hunting property line beef.

• 38:08Theo Von?

And what about reindeer? Do you ever see reindeer out there or not?

• 38:11Speaker 01

I personally came across one. Um, my son did just get a reindeer call and one of my, one of my buddies from, from Alabama, uh, made him a reindeer call.

• 38:20Theo Von?

  Away for Christmas?

• 38:21Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 38:22Theo Von?

  Oh, that's hilarious, dude.

• 38:23Speaker 01

  That's cool.

• 38:24Theo Von?

Bro, you got to use that with them. That's pretty cool. Imagine that, dude, you're a kid and you think it was a nice reindeer call you're bringing in Santa, dude?

• 38:31Speaker 01

Yeah, he thinks that's what he's doing. I mean, that's, that would be, I, I don't even think he's actually tried it, like, he, uh, I guess that was probably the last, last Christmas, so, he's just, he's came, he's just got a lot of new interest and stuff this year, so I think, I, I was, I came home this, this past weekend and I was working on my turkey call, just in my mouth, you know, and he, he was trying to like mimic me and stuff. It was, it was hilarious, dude. He's just screaming, basically.

• 39:00Theo Von?

Is it fun to watch him kinda grow like what has it been interesting? Is there moments where you see him learn something and you almost see him learn it? Like, does that kinda happen?

• 39:08Speaker 01

Yeah, it's cool like I I've been working on him on how to catch and stuff, you know? I've just been using like a a soft basketball that I've got one of those, you know, just basketball goals you hang up on the door and

• 39:19Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, there's just so much fun.

• 39:21Speaker 01

So fun. I use it more than him still.

• 39:23Theo Von?

Yeah. You're just making him rebound for you?

• 39:26Speaker 01

Yeah, every time I'm on the phone, I'll just put my headphones in and just start shooting for like thirty minutes.

• 39:32Speaker 01

  Since it's been cold especially.

• 39:34Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 39:36Speaker 01

But yeah, just, you know, when I first, when we first started, he couldn't do it. And then, you know, a couple of weeks later, he's like catching and, you know, you he can catch a bounce pass now. You know, it's just like just seeing those things progress in such a short period of time is cool.

• 39:50Theo Von?

Does it make you have a different appreciation for your own dad? Or is it adjusted y'all's relationship any, you think? Is that a weird question to ask?

• 39:55Speaker 01

No, it's not a weird question. I I think, yeah, I I think it probably does, you know? I mean, me and my dad, we butted heads a lot growing up, especially once I got to high school just because I was I was

• 40:07Theo Von?

  You were you.

• 40:08Speaker 01

I was kinda ridiculous and I think he was kinda ridiculous when he was that when he was that age too. So he was just trying to, hey, don't be like me when I was that age, you know? Like, I know what this turns, I know how this ends usually. So we just butted heads. I didn't, you know, you don't believe anything your parents say when you're that age.

• 40:24Theo Von?

No, it's the last person you wanna believe. It's so crazy.

• 40:26Speaker 01

It's not even possible. I I there wasn't possible in my head to believe that. It's crazy to think now. I'm like, damn, they were right. But in my head, it was not physically possible to think that they could be right.

• 40:36Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 40:37Speaker 01

  There just wasn't.

• 40:37Theo Von?

It's kinda crazy because like, oh, these two people that love me and care about me and raised me this far.

• 40:42Speaker 01

They're trying to ruin my life.

• 40:43Theo Von?

They're trying to ruin my life.

• 40:45Speaker 01

Yeah, that's what you think. It's wild.

• 40:47Theo Von?

  Oh, totally.

• 40:47Speaker 01

It's it's insane really, but um, that's what I thought. But yeah, I mean, after, you know, I moved out and once I really, once I think I got moved down here to Nashville, that's when we we became closer.

• 40:59Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 41:00Speaker 01

Closer than ever because I moved here pretty young, you know, I was twenty two when I moved here.

• 41:03Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 41:04Speaker 01

  And

• 41:05Theo Von?

Almost been here ten years coming up.

• 41:06Speaker 01

Mm hmm. So it's I think just having that space and then just being able to, you get older too, you know.

• 41:13Theo Von?

Oh, that's the biggest thing. You're like, oh shit, none of that other shit even matter what I'm doing.

• 41:17Speaker 01

Like, yeah, you may, maybe you could have went about it a little different or whatever, you know, but like the intentions were right.

• 41:22Theo Von?

Yeah, I mean, I just got spending time with my mom is like a lot of my life. It's like I'm waiting for my mom to like, show me certain attention or affection or something. The other night we're just sitting there. We're watching at the opera and she went there like forty years ago or something, you know, and um, and I'm like, it's kind of stupid, but I just reached up and grabbed my mom's hand, you know, cause it's like, it's not about me being a kid anymore. It's just about me being, she's an older woman now. So it's like, let me just be an adult and almost act like I'm the parent, you know, I'm not the parent now, but let me, I don't know, it's the old part of me, like a child part of me would be like, oh man, it's my brother. I wish my mom would, you know, just pat me on the back. Just do something, you know, show me a little bit of love or something. But then I just grabbed her hand and then we just watched it together. And it was like me kinda, I don't know, it was a little moment for me where I was like, I'm not gonna be that old

• 42:08Theo Von?

grudge. I'm just gonna move forward, you know?

• 42:11Speaker 01

  That's cool. Yeah.

• 42:12Theo Von?

But it was just interesting. Or I just, or just to get my mom a hug while we're sitting there, you know, just like, you know?

• 42:16Speaker 01

Me and my mom, my mom always, we always had like a super, super good relationship. She was always loving and stuff, you know? So I, I just, I felt all that from my mom, but me and my dad, you know, like I said, we butted heads. So it was more of just getting past that phase in my life, but for, I didn't, once it was, once that phase was over, it was over.

• 42:35Theo Von?

  Right.

• 42:35Speaker 01

To me, you know, I wasn't, I don't, I don't have any sort of hard feelings towards it.

• 42:39Theo Von?

Oh yeah, dude, your dad is so funny, dude. Right when I see him, my, my face just fucking smiles.

• 42:47Speaker 01

Chipper, you said he was chipper. That's the right word for him.

• 42:49Theo Von?

And he's been fasting for like seven hundred days, dude.

• 42:51Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't, at this point, I don't know. He ain't fasting, he ain't fasting right now. I've been seeing this man eat during, during this trip he's been down here. He ain't fasting. Don't let him lie to you. Cause I've been basically, I've been, you know, eating clean and stuff, trying to get ready for tour and all that. And there you, you know, bribing me with all these hamburgers and stuff. I'm like, man, go cook at somewhere else.

• 43:14Theo Von?

What uh, what about motorcycling? You, you, you got a motorcycle. I remember last time I saw you, you were talking about, did you get one?

• 43:20Speaker 01

  Yeah, I got it.

• 43:21Theo Von?

Oh, you have a Harley hat on today?

• 43:22Speaker 01

  I do, yeah.

• 43:23Theo Von?

Gang, gang, that's a nice dude.

• 43:25Speaker 01

I got this off some like vintage thing.

• 43:28Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's tough, dude.

• 43:30Speaker 01

Yeah, man, I, I enjoy it.

• 43:32Theo Von?

  You do?

• 43:33Speaker 01

Yeah, which I, I kinda had ridden dirt bikes and stuff a little bit, you know, enough to understand my way around a bike already.

• 43:40Theo Von?

  Right.

• 43:41Speaker 01

So, me and Cody and TD and a few, a few other of us, few others, we all got bikes, so.

• 43:50Theo Von?

Look at that shit. I'll buy the cologne, whatever they're selling right there.

• 43:53Speaker 01

  It does look like that.

• 43:54Theo Von?

It really does, huh? Exhaust by Morgan Wallen.

• 43:57Speaker 01

  Exhaust.

• 44:00Speaker 01

  Smells like a fart.

• 44:02Theo Von?

That wouldn't be a bad cologne though, dude.

• 44:04Speaker 01

Smells like Morgan Wallen's farts, man.

• 44:08Theo Von?

What if you had, you had a blow to start that thing? What if you had a fucking, one of those breath things on?

• 44:14Speaker 01

  I'm surprised I don't. I'm surprised.

• 44:16Theo Von?

Has anybody ever had a motorbike that has that on it?

• 44:19Speaker 01

I'm sure they have. I'm surprised I don't have that on every vehicle I've got. Shout out to Davidson County.

• 44:29Theo Von?

Sorry, man, that's hilarious. No, that's a handsome picture, man. That looks nice, dude. But you get out there, you, you.

• 44:34Speaker 01

I like it, cause it's like, you got your helmet on, nobody knows who you are. You get out there, you gotta focus on it too. You gotta be, you ain't on your phone. You know, you ain't doing anything else. You're just thinking about what you gotta do on that bike.

• 44:48Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 44:48Speaker 01

So I enjoy that aspect of it a lot. You, like, at least me, I physically can't do anything else other than, you know, think about what's going on on this bike.

• 44:56Theo Von?

  Be locked in?

• 44:57Speaker 01

Yeah, so I, I like that aspect of it a lot. You know, you'll be riding and then all of a sudden it's five hours have gone by and you just don't realize that that happened, yeah.

• 45:05Theo Von?

Damn, I gotta get out there sometime. I'm just so bad. I'm bad at being in motion.

• 45:10Speaker 01

Well, that might not be for you then.

• 45:12Theo Von?

  Yeah. I'm better, I'm better.

• 45:15Speaker 01

What do you mean? Wait, what do you mean? Keep going.

• 45:17Theo Von?

I'm bad at just like being in motion and having to think at the same time. I'm more of a stop and think than move.

• 45:24Speaker 01

What are you, what are we thinking about though?

• 45:26Theo Von?

Just anything, whatever the next thing has to be. It's just hard for me. Like I get, I just, I think.

• 45:30Speaker 01

You can just be in the back of the line then.

• 45:33Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 45:33Speaker 01

You can just, you can just follow us.

• 45:35Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah, I would be a good, yeah, I don't wanna be at the front.

• 45:37Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 45:38Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 45:38Speaker 01

Or the middle. The middle's probably the safest anyway. You can be in the middle. Cause you're protected in the back. You're protecting the front. You don't have to make any decisions. You just follow the decisions.

• 45:48Theo Von?

That's where I need to be then.

• 45:49Speaker 01

I don't, yeah, you should take, what's Harry? You should go take Harry's motorcycle class. That's who we took our class from.

• 45:55Theo Von?

  Really?

• 45:55Speaker 01

He was good. Yeah. I mean, I learned things I didn't know.

• 45:58Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 45:58Speaker 01

  You know?

• 45:59Theo Von?

  Oh, God.

• 45:59Speaker 01

It wasn't easy necessarily either, you know, there was things that that were challenging.

• 46:04Theo Von?

Do y'all go in a pack when y'all go out there?

• 46:06Speaker 01

I've ridden a couple of times by myself, but I would have somebody following me, you know, like my security or just anyone. But we mostly just ride at least in groups of two.

• 46:15Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 46:16Speaker 01

A lot of times groups of four.

• 46:18Theo Von?

That's tough, man. Yeah, maybe I'll have to get out there. I gotta pray about that.

• 46:22Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't wanna, don't let me, I'm not influencing you at all.

• 46:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 46:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:25Theo Von?

  Okay, thank you.

• 46:26Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 46:26Theo Von?

Yeah, I don't wanna be out there just like, I'm the problem.

• 46:30Speaker 01

  You're just getting the sidecar.

• 46:34Theo Von?

  Little German sidecar.

• 46:38Theo Von?

Yeah, dude, your cousin Andrew and I are friends, man.

• 46:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:41Theo Von?

He's a class, dude, he is, okay, your family is funny, dude.

• 46:45Speaker 01

We've got a lot of characters in our family.

• 46:47Theo Von?

That's what you have, dude. Even when I remember you first told me I met you about your Uncle David or something.

• 46:51Speaker 01

  My Uncle David.

• 46:52Theo Von?

  Holidays.

• 46:53Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 46:53Theo Von?

And then just different people you would tell me and then getting to meet your dad. And then, uh, yeah, Andrew and I have become friends over the years. He's, he's hilarious, dude.

• 47:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, he definitely is hilarious.

• 47:02Theo Von?

Went fishing with him. He fuck, dude, that doodle, he'll put a damn, he'll start fishing anywhere. You pass by a Chase bank and he'll, he'll cast over there and put a-

• 47:11Speaker 01

What are you trying to catch, man?

• 47:12Theo Von?

Frog top on there just because there's a bank.

• 47:17Theo Von?

He'll catch a damn, he'll catch a safe deposit box over there at the 12 pound, brother.

• 47:22Speaker 01

  Oh, God.

• 47:23Theo Von?

But he, dude, he's just good. He took us out to some property, him and Ben Weppern, I think is the guy's name.

• 47:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, Ben, yeah.

• 47:29Theo Von?

And, um, and we had a blast, man, but he's good.

• 47:32Speaker 01

  Where'd y'all go? To Holmwall?

• 47:34Theo Von?

Uh, no, we went to, um-

• 47:36Speaker 01

  Oh, you went to E's?

• 47:37Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 47:37Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 47:38Theo Von?

We went to E's and it was cool though. I hadn't been there. God, that's beautiful.

• 47:41Speaker 01

  That place is immaculate.

• 47:42Theo Von?

God. Yeah, that was good, man.

• 47:45Speaker 01

Got some big fish in there. It's a beautiful spot, man.

• 47:48Theo Von?

But is he home with you?

• 47:50Speaker 01

  Does he hunt?

• 47:50Theo Von?

  Does Andrew hunt with you?

• 47:51Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, some. He does, yeah. I like, I like hunting with him.

• 47:55Speaker 01

You know, he works for Field and Stream, so he travels a lot doing, doing that job, which I think is a really good job for him.

• 48:00Theo Von?

  He loves it, man.

• 48:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:02Theo Von?

Yeah, he's talented, but he's hilarious, dude.

• 48:04Speaker 01

We all keep telling him, like, he should have his own YouTube channel or something.

• 48:07Theo Von?

  Really should, man.

• 48:08Speaker 01

Just a series of some sort. And this is the things that happened to that guy? I'm like, dude.

• 48:14Speaker 01

I don't know how this has occurred to you, but, you know, the world deserves to hear this.

• 48:20Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's okay, brother.

• 48:21Speaker 01

The world deserves to share in your pain that you're dealing with right now.

• 48:26Speaker 01

Because the things that happened to him are just unbelievable, man.

• 48:30Theo Von?

Bro, he's just such a good story. Yeah, he's a, bro, he has been, getting to know him's been a gift, man.

• 48:36Speaker 01

Yeah, he, he is a, a true, he's a treasure, man. He's a national treasure.

• 48:42Theo Von?

  He's a buried treasure, too.

• 48:43Speaker 01

I mean, I really, he is buried right now. We keep, I mean, maybe he'll take this and he'll watch this clip and go start his channel, you know?

• 48:53Theo Von?

He's entertain, yeah, man, he's just entertaining, he's easy to be around. And yeah, that Field and Stream job with him is perfect.

• 48:57Speaker 01

And he could do both. He could have that job and do, you know, that could almost be part of it.

• 49:01Theo Von?

Or find a way to put them together, but you couldn't.

• 49:02Speaker 01

That's what I'm saying. It could be a part of the same thing.

• 49:04Theo Von?

You couldn't find a guy that's more perfect for that. Has there been something nice that you kind of got yourself as a gift that you started, you know, feeling like you were doing pretty well and?

• 49:14Speaker 01

  Hmm, I mean.

• 49:17Theo Von?

A trip you took or anything?

• 49:19Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, I, I'm, I used to be probably a little more frugal than, than I am right now.

• 49:27Theo Von?

Yeah, same. I don't like, I don't like going to get stuff. I don't like shopping for stuff, too.

• 49:31Speaker 01

Yeah. Um, I'm trying to think if there's anything that I was just really splurged out on. You know, I got a couple of watches and just things like that, but. And then I got a. Couple of nice cars. I mean, I don't, I don't feel like I'm over the top big spender guy.

• 49:49Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:50Speaker 01

You know, in a lot of times.

• 49:52Theo Von?

What uh, what was your first car? Do you remember it?

• 49:54Speaker 01

Yeah, it was a Jeep Cherokee.

• 49:56Theo Von?

Was it really dude? I got a fricking Jeep Cherokee dude.

• 49:58Speaker 01

  You do right now?

• 49:59Theo Von?

In Los, yeah, in Los Angeles have a car there. It's got like only 12,000 miles on it.

• 50:02Speaker 01

Oh, this thing had a lot more than 12,000 miles on it.

• 50:04Theo Von?

  Really?

• 50:05Speaker 01

Yeah. Um, it was a white Jeep Grand Cherokee. I think it was a 95 if I'm, if I'm remembering correctly.

• 50:10Theo Von?

  Dude, I like those cars.

• 50:12Speaker 01

It was not a bad car. Um, I mean, it wasn't, whoever had it, it wasn't the most, it was like that right there. That's exactly what it looked like.

• 50:19Theo Von?

God, those bitches were tough dude.

• 50:21Speaker 01

It's exactly what it looked like.

• 50:22Theo Von?

Yeah, I had them Ford Escort, 84 Ford Escort. Pull that bitch up dude. If they'll even allow you. Sometimes Google won't let you look at them anymore. Them bitches are visually outlawed.

• 50:36Theo Von?

Bro, that shit'll crawl. It'll remodel your eye line when you look at that bitch dude. God damn, that bitch looks horrible. I hadn't looked at it in a few years.

• 50:45Speaker 01

I could, I mean, yeah, that's pretty bad.

• 50:51Speaker 01

Especially that one on the right, that blue one. God, that one pulled up.

• 50:56Theo Von?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 50:57Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 50:57Theo Von?

And barely pulled up. That bitch pulled up slow dude.

• 51:02Speaker 01

It's got a two cylinder in it.

• 51:06Theo Von?

Probably it had a fucking outboard motor engine in it.

• 51:10Speaker 01

You had to steer it like with the reverse way, like you, like you had to do a John boat.

• 51:15Theo Von?

Yeah, it had a boat motor in it dude.

• 51:18Speaker 01

  Steering it from the back.

• 51:22Theo Von?

And dude, somebody stole my passenger seat in that bitch.

• 51:26Speaker 01

  Really?

• 51:26Theo Von?

Yeah, so if you had some-

• 51:27Speaker 01

Was it only a two seater anyway?

• 51:29Theo Von?

No, it had three extra little seats in the back.

• 51:31Speaker 01

  Okay, okay.

• 51:31Theo Von?

But they weren't even a bench. It was three individual little bitty seats.

• 51:36Speaker 01

  Three booster seats up there?

• 51:40Theo Von?

Either I had to have three kids that were triplets I guess, or a couple of small buddies, but somebody had stole my damn passenger seat dude.

• 51:47Speaker 01

Did you ever get it back?

• 51:48Theo Von?

Uh-uh. Somebody were eating at a Burger King and somebody stole that bitch out of there. And um, but then people, people had to get in, they'd get in the car, but they couldn't sit right there.

• 52:01Speaker 01

Do you put a couple blankets down or something or what?

• 52:04Theo Von?

Whatever dude. But uh, the one time I picked up a dude, I was getting him to buy me alcohol at a gas station. I was skipping to school and he got in, this kind of homelessy kind of guy. And he got in, instead of sitting in the back, he just got on his knees right there at the passenger side. So I'm driving and he just-

• 52:22Speaker 01

  He was your friend?

• 52:22Theo Von?

I didn't know him. No, he's like a guy who I gave him money to buy me alcohol.

• 52:26Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 52:27Theo Von?

So, but anyway, I don't know why I'm telling you all this. Um, I just cleaned up. You ever realize that you spent your entire morning thinking about lunch? It's 9 a.m. and somehow I'm already in negotiations with myself about how I'm gonna spend $20 on a sandwich at noon. And then I eat it, or you eat it, or somebody eats it, and then an hour later, you're just standing in the kitchen worrying about what you'll do for dinner. And that's one reason why I've been into Huell. The Black Edition Powder is a complete meal you have instead of food, not a shake on top of food. Their powder starts at less than $3 per meal, has 40 grams of

• 53:08Theo Von?

protein, and mixes with water or milk in about 30 seconds. I like Huell's shakes because they're clean and it's quick. Sometimes it may, I just, I would just want to make sure I have everything I need to keep going the way I want to keep going in a healthy manner. So with Huell, basically, lunch went from a daily logistical problem to a thing I can solve in about 30 seconds. Make healthy eating simple. Is there a moment where you're like, "I just can't, this is far enough"? Could you keep going on an album, like, could you keep fine-tuning it forever?

• 57:20Speaker 01

  Yes, for sure, yeah.

• 57:22Theo Von?

So that's a real possibility, you can overdo it?

• 57:24Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The powers that be will give you a deadline, if you want certain things to happen. You know, like, you want your vinyl to come, to be out, to be ready by when the record's ready. You know, things like that, so you kinda, they put a, you know, they give you a buffer, because they know you're not gonna have it in time. They got a buffer for the buffer. They got, they got like an eight-week buffer, I think, that they put on me. But those time, those time limits are, are healthy, I think, you know, because especially, I mean, it's not like we weren't working. I mean, we worked really hard on this album, pretty much since tour was over. I've been writing and, you know, just recording, all that, so.

• 58:12Speaker 01

I mean, we recorded fifty or fifty-one songs and cut thirteen or fourteen.

• 58:17Theo Von?

  Wow, really?

• 58:19Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 58:21Theo Von?

So what happens to a lot? You just kind of decide this doesn't fit here right now?

• 58:24Speaker 01

Yeah, some of the songs were songs that I wrote, some of them weren't. So if I didn't write them, then they'll just, whatever happens to them, not up to me anymore. And then if I did, you know, who knows? I might make a side project of something if, you know, if something that has nothing to do with my name. I've always kind of wanted to do that anyway, you know? Just kind of figure out a way to, it wouldn't be my voice. It wouldn't, I don't know how you do that. I'm sure there's all kinds of ways to go about it now, you know, these days, but.

• 58:53Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 58:54Speaker 01

But not be my name, not my voice, not be any kind of style of music that I, that I normally do, you know? Just to see what happens to it. It might be like house music or something, you know?

• 59:04Theo Von?

Oh, that'd be pretty sick, dude. Yeah, dude, if you had house music.

• 59:08Speaker 01

I mean, people would, if they saw my name on it, they would, I don't want it to have my name on it. I wanted to just see what happens if it just gets put out to the world. You know, maybe I'll like put it on a story or something, whoever it is, you know, Dream Jacker or whatever the team is, but.

• 59:23Speaker 01

Whatever the name of the guy is.

• 59:26Theo Von?

Wet Dream Jacker, that'd be mine.

• 59:29Speaker 01

  Dream Jacking currently.

• 59:33Speaker 01

I mean, I, we were talking, me and my buddies were talking about this topic the other day, actually. I don't know, it might actually happen.

• 59:41Theo Von?

  Putting out something secret, low-key?

• 59:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:43Theo Von?

Creating something? Yeah, well, I bet, because that's an interesting thing. It's like, once you kind of have made a name in one space, it's kind of hard. You can't, you know, you almost have, if you want to get a real test of what people think of something, you kind of have to secretly do it some other way.

• 59:57Speaker 01

Yeah, but it wouldn't, it wouldn't even be similar to the type of music that I'm doing.

• 1:00:00Theo Von?

  Totally understand that.

• 1:00:01Speaker 01

It would be nothing even close to what I'm doing now. It would be like, I, I mean, I like, I like house music a little bit. So I'll listen to it working out or driving or stuff, you know, like melodic stuff.

• 1:00:12Theo Von?

Like groove, like that kind of stuff?

• 1:00:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:00:14Theo Von?

  Yeah, I like.

• 1:00:14Speaker 01

But I feel like a lot of that stuff doesn't necessarily. Have a lot of words and stuff, you know, so maybe what if I took a song of mine that didn't make my album, but it's got a story, it's got all these things, you know, what if, what would people like that? I don't know.

• 1:00:29Theo Von?

Dude, I've thought this, I thought, started thinking this about two years ago. So they have like ED, you go to these nightclubs and stuff and they'll have like John Summit, these different kinds of guys who are playing like house, like trance or whatever, whatever it is. It's just people doing dope really late at night and just doing like this, you know, whatever that is.

• 1:00:45Speaker 01

I don't know the difference between all of those styles of music. It's like, it's one style of music. I know there's subgenres and all that, but yeah.

• 1:00:52Theo Von?

Same. I don't have a clue, but I'm always like, why don't they have a, like a more like country or like, why is it always, like if they had remixes of a lot of great country music, like that, and you put it to that same type of shit that, because a lot of people want to still go have that environment, but I don't, sometimes you get tired of that music. It just gets kind of old. So if they had remixes of some dope country shit, I'm like, if they had two country DJs that came out like, I feel like it would be so sick just doing remixes and shit.

• 1:01:19Speaker 01

It would be cool. I'm surprised they don't have that already.

• 1:01:21Theo Von?

Me too. Me and Kayla Presley tried, thought about trying to do it, but then it was just like, just don't have a lot of time, you know, and that becomes something too, is like there's things you want to do and you just don't have enough time, you know?

• 1:01:30Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. And that's, it's smart for you to realize that. I mean, it'll be like, well, I'm gonna quit my job. Pays all my bills and, you know, go be a mason. It's like, well, maybe don't do that. So, yeah.

• 1:01:44Theo Von?

Under a new moon. Just fucking remixing fucking Brooks and Dunn. Before you go, man, you have some, you have some amazing artists that are gonna be on some of these tour dates with you.

• 1:01:58Speaker 01

  Yeah, I do.

• 1:01:58Theo Von?

Did you have to call them individually and ask them? How'd that kind of go? Cause some of these are idols really in the industry, you know?

• 1:02:06Speaker 01

I feel, I'm, you know, Miranda, I'm good friends with Miranda. I'm good, good friends with Brooks and Dunn.

• 1:02:15Theo Von?

  So that was pretty easy.

• 1:02:16Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, that was, there was already mutual interest and that's something that's kind of been a conversation for a little bit longer than just, you know, this year. So that one kind of just worked itself out between them and my, and my managers. Um, I'm good friends with Thomas Red as well. So that one, they were all.

• 1:02:30Theo Von?

  He's nice, huh?

• 1:02:31Speaker 01

  He's super nice.

• 1:02:31Theo Von?

God, what a nice guy. He lives nearby, I think.

• 1:02:34Speaker 01

Yeah, I think you're right. Um, it just all kind of happened pretty naturally, but I mean, it's unbelievable to me, you know, like I haven't really, this, this page that's pulled up, I mean, just to see the people that are, that are opening for me, it's like, it doesn't even make sense, you know?

• 1:02:50Theo Von?

Miranda Ella Langley, she's a new.

• 1:02:52Speaker 01

  Yeah, she's a badass.

• 1:02:53Theo Von?

  Or she's newly more popular.

• 1:02:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:55Theo Von?

I'm not gonna say she's new. I don't know about her history.

• 1:02:57Speaker 01

  I don't either, but.

• 1:02:58Theo Von?

Miranda Corey Kent, I'm not familiar with him. If it's a man.

• 1:03:01Speaker 01

It is, yeah. He's good too.

• 1:03:04Theo Von?

I'm gonna have to check him out.

• 1:03:06Speaker 01

Yeah, Ann Wilson, she's, she's a, a Christian artist, um, by trade, but she's, you know, dabbling in the country music world. She's, she's really good. You know, she's on our, she's on our agency, so.

• 1:03:20Theo Von?

  She is?

• 1:03:20Speaker 01

  Yep, yep.

• 1:03:21Theo Von?

Um, you started off to check her out. Oh, Gavin Adcox out there with you too?

• 1:03:26Speaker 01

  He's a wild man.

• 1:03:26Theo Von?

  Fucking guys.

• 1:03:28Speaker 01

  I love that guy, man.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

  I, uh.

• 1:03:31Theo Von?

He's walking, like, I see he'll eat a fucking, he'll eat a damn three pack. I saw him eat a three pack of beers.

• 1:03:37Speaker 01

  He probably did.

• 1:03:38Theo Von?

Oh, he'll eat fucking two beers, dude. Yeah, he doesn't give a damn, dude. He played offensive line for Bud Light for a couple of years, I think.

• 1:03:48Theo Von?

There is nobody like him, dude, he's fucking.

• 1:03:51Speaker 01

He, he's definitely outlandish. What are those things, those military, what are those MREs or whatever? He's just got beer in there?

• 1:04:01Theo Von?

  Dude, he'll fucking.

• 1:04:03Speaker 01

  But he, he's a.

• 1:04:04Theo Von?

  He's entertaining.

• 1:04:05Speaker 01

He's entertaining. He's got, he's got a good voice too, and his, his music seems like he's just keeps getting better too, so I'm, I'm happy for him, man.

• 1:04:13Theo Von?

I gotta tap in more to my song. I saw him play with, uh, Kid Rock and them on his, one of his shows last year. Dude, I'll say this, Bob Ritchie, his live performance, dude.

• 1:04:22Speaker 01

No, he'll, he'll let them have it, won't he?

• 1:04:24Theo Von?

Bro, I was fucking, I mean, I know, you know, but I didn't, it was good.

• 1:04:30Speaker 01

I've never seen it person, like firsthand, but.

• 1:04:32Theo Von?

  It was really.

• 1:04:33Speaker 01

  I can imagine.

• 1:04:34Theo Von?

I mean, I knew it would be, but it's just been some time, you know? It's hard to keep up, you know? I mean, being out there for two hours, I mean, you guys get, I mean, it, it, it's a lot, man.

• 1:04:43Speaker 01

It is, man. It can be for sure. I mean, depends on how often you do it too, you know? I mean, if you're doing it. Some people, I guess, still do it three, three nights a week. I'm just, I'm just gonna do it too because it feels like a disservice to, to me and everyone else to do it three days in a row, you know, but two, two seems like a good sweet spot.

• 1:05:03Speaker 01

You can, as long, you know, you play the show. Probably don't go to bed till three, four in the morning just because you're so wound up.

• 1:05:10Theo Von?

Yeah, you're up, people are visiting, you gotta say bye to everybody, all that shit.

• 1:05:13Speaker 01

Well, I don't do all that anymore much.

• 1:05:15Theo Von?

But even if your family's there and stuff.

• 1:05:16Speaker 01

Yeah, but even still, they know what the priorities are at this point. So if I, if I play a show.

• 1:05:20Theo Von?

  You'll head out.

• 1:05:21Speaker 01

Which my boy, if, if my boy's with me, he'll be asleep already anyway. So I'll just, we head straight out. Don't stick around. I try to go to bed as soon as possible. Usually, like I said, don't have no three or four. Then you try your best to sleep till noon, one, two, as late as you possibly can, just because of your voice after doing all that. You know, you need all that rest. Um, so it's a, it's become a little bit more like a regiment for me, which is, which is good. You know, I got a a vocal coach and all that stuff too now. So it's just like, it's like a whole boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. This is how it is now, you know, and that seems to help me a lot.

• 1:05:55Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah. It's kind of interesting. When I was a little younger, I could do those, I could do, you know, some of those stretches and now I'm like, I don't, I wish I when I do see them on the schedule, it's a little bit tougher. Not comparing comedy and, and what, you know?

• 1:06:07Speaker 01

No, but you're, I mean, it is, I mean, it's a similar thing.

• 1:06:10Theo Von?

It's like a regiment. It's like, yeah, I gotta sleep in late and it's like, well, that kind of sucks because now it's like, it's kind of hard if you wake up at 10 to go back to sleep for two more hours just because it's light out.

• 1:06:17Speaker 01

  It's really hard.

• 1:06:18Theo Von?

It's hard, but you know, you need that two more hours of sleep. Otherwise I'm gonna be edgy, you know, and I won't be able to man, I might not want to go work out. Just all the little things like.

• 1:06:26Speaker 01

Yeah, it, it is, it's important.

• 1:06:28Theo Von?

Cause it's just about getting yourself back on the stage for that next. That when it's time to go, it's time to go.

• 1:06:33Speaker 01

Yeah. I mean, back in the day, I mean, which we weren't playing two hour shows back then either, you know, but we would play six, six shows in one week, you know? So. I don't know how, I mean, it just had to be young, I guess, you know, I mean, it wasn't like we were, I wasn't, the only regiment then was sleep till four, start drinking at five. You know what I mean? Like, that's what it was then. And we gonna be good. Ain't that right?

• 1:06:56Theo Von?

Bro, hell yeah, that's the Gavin Adcock National Anthem.

• 1:06:58Speaker 01

Yeah, I think, I think back in the day, if, if I had a camera on me, like, like Adcock does now, they might, they might be, they would be probably saying some similar stuff about me, but he, he's a little more, he's a little more bold with it, I guess, than I was.

• 1:07:14Theo Von?

Well, he's really, yeah, uh, he's, oh dude, he's fucking, he'll be onstage, people, I think there's some, he's like, people are throwing fucking beers, he just has beers bouncing off of him. He's an animal, dude. He'd be like, the P A system's shut down, but we gonna still fucking perform. He just yell, he just, he'll hollow out a beer can and just yell out of it and shit. He's fucking doing all kinds of shit. He is ballsy, dude. His personality's cool. He's fun, y'all. Very entertaining. I gotta tap into more of his music. I haven't listened to a lot of his music.

• 1:07:44Speaker 01

Yeah, you need to get him on here.

• 1:07:45Theo Von?

Yeah. I do need to. People say that we look alike a little bit, but I think they're just being nice to me.

• 1:07:53Speaker 01

To you, to you or him?

• 1:07:58Theo Von?

One of us, dude. Um, oh yeah, you got your drink here, man? You brought this today? That real tea? How's it going?

• 1:08:04Speaker 01

Real tea. Man, it seems to be, seems to be progressing nicely.

• 1:08:08Theo Von?

  It's good, I like it.

• 1:08:09Speaker 01

I like it on ice better. Um,

• 1:08:11Theo Von?

  Yeah, brother.

• 1:08:12Speaker 01

But I've always liked sweet tea better on ice. But, I mean, you know, cause I've been, I'm trying to eat and live and drink and all that stuff clean, so for something that's actually, you know, healthy, it's, it's good.

• 1:08:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's good for sure.

• 1:08:25Theo Von?

I like it. I like having a nice, uh, little can of tea or something. I'll keep a couple in the car. I'll drink them warm even.

• 1:08:31Speaker 01

  Do you?

• 1:08:31Theo Von?

Yeah. I'll get a whole one then, me at a stoplight.

• 1:08:34Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't do all that.

• 1:08:35Theo Von?

  You don't?

• 1:08:35Speaker 01

No. My, my drummer told me one time, he had drank like, I can't remember how many, you know, like thirteen or something, and ungodly in a short amount of time, said, damn, man, you're gonna have kidney stones for sure.

• 1:08:49Theo Von?

Hey dude, that's, well, maybe he'll have a band, a cover band of the Rolling Stones. It's called Kidney Stones.

• 1:08:55Speaker 01

  The Rolling Kidney Stones.

Um, is there a song sometimes of your own that you'll listen to or one that catches you sometimes? And it'll kind of catch you in your feels a little bit? Is there anyone that you're like?

• 1:09:06Speaker 01

I mean, yeah, the song, the song I wrote to my son is, is the song.

• 1:09:09Theo Von?

Oh, the one that's not out yet?

• 1:09:10Speaker 01

Yeah, that does that. It'll be out soon, but, um, I mean, it's also one of those things to where, you know, I've tried so many times to write a song like that for him and it always fell flat. So I'd listen to it on the way home or whatever, after we wrote it and I'd be like, that's, that's good, you know, but it's not, it's not how I want it. And I also didn't want to write like a song to him that was all, I don't know, sappy and slow and, you know, just like what you would expect a dad's son song to be. You know, oh, I wish you wouldn't grow up, you know, all that. Like, I didn't want it to be that. I wanted it.

• 1:09:52Theo Von?

  Another birthday cake?

• 1:09:53Speaker 01

Yeah, it's like, I didn't want that song at all. That song's been written plenty enough. So, and I wanted it to keep like, have a little bit of my, my sound and my swag and just like, and to be honest. You know, so it was a hard thing to try to get all those things wrapped up into one song. And what, it's called Superman is what it's called and I feel like we accomplished that. And when I was, when we wrote it and I was riding home, it was actually the last song that made my record. So it's not like I've had it for a long time, you know, it took us a while to, to get that song. And, um, it was actually Blake, one of my buddy Blake's, it was his idea. And the hook was different though. It said Superman.

• 1:10:35Speaker 01

I don't remember what the hook was exactly, but I was just singing it and I was like, oh, I know, I know what it is. And I changed, I changed the hook and it like, it made it. It was like, oh, there it is.

• 1:10:45Theo Von?

  Unlocked.

• 1:10:45Speaker 01

And we all, all three of us and there were four of us in the room, just kind of, I was like, oh yeah, that's it. You know, and then on the way home, I was listening to it and started crying. And that's the first time I, that it happened with a song for him. So that's, I kind of knew. Yeah.

• 1:11:00Theo Von?

That's cool, man. Yeah, man, there's one thing I've always thought you had very good instincts, man. I've always admired your instincts, you know?

• 1:11:27Theo Von?

• 1:11:35Theo Von?

• 1:11:50Speaker 01
