I'll get the comments on my PR sometimes. My four-year-old would love this. And I'm like, okay. Okay. Your four-year-old doesn't need Everyman Jack Spider-Man Body Wash, but...

• 0:46Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 0:55Drew Afualo?

Hey, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of the Comment Section Show. Sorry, me, your fave, everybody knows me and cares about me. Onto the guest today, we have the icon, the legend himself, Blake Silva, AKA Blake's Pop-Nuck.

• 1:06Speaker 01

Oh, my gosh. There was no way that was about me.

• 1:11Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my god.

• 1:12Speaker 01

  The icon, no.

• 1:13Drew Afualo?

  Welcome to the show, King.

• 1:14Speaker 01

Oh, my gosh, I like, I'm taking it in. I am thinking about paying rent here. Like, this is so cool.

• 1:20Drew Afualo?

Can I be honest? You came when we're on our fancy studio time. Because you haven't seen some of the trenches we've been in filming the show. We had a summer where we filmed in a literal, like, storage house with no AC.

• 1:34Speaker 01

  You know what?

• 1:35Drew Afualo?

And thank God to my guest, I appreciate you.

• 1:39Speaker 01

That's how we got here today.

• 1:40Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so you came to the bouge time.

• 1:41Speaker 01

  I love that.

• 1:42Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 1:42Speaker 01

  Well, AC is important.

• 1:43Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm so glad that we are in this space when we have Blake's Pop-Nuck on.

• 1:47Speaker 01

  Oh, my god, period.

• 1:48Drew Afualo?

This episode is presented by Too Good & Co Creamer. My go-to coffee is an iced vanilla latte, personally. But whether you enjoy your coffee hot, cold, bold, or frothy, if you want to take it up a level, Too Good Creamers make every sip a good one. Why? Because they're made with farm-fresh cream, real milk, and contain 3 grams of sugar per serving. That's 40% less than the 5 grams per serving in leading traditional coffee creamers for a rich, creamy, and delicious experience. Find Too Good Creamers in the creamer aisle. You're my first Disney creator.

• 2:21Speaker 01

Wait, I love that so much. I, so I tune in. Obviously, I watched the episode talking all about Disney adults.

• 2:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 2:29Speaker 01

  Literally, literally two weeks ago.

• 2:31Drew Afualo?

  With Maggie?

• 2:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:32Drew Afualo?

  Oh, love her.

• 2:32Speaker 01

First of all, I don't know, is it called Subway Takes?

• 2:35Drew Afualo?

  Yes, Subway Takes.

• 2:36Speaker 01

I ate that up when I saw her and of course, I'm like sitting on my couch like, yes, like, please like vouch for us.

• 2:42Drew Afualo?

  For Disney adults?

• 2:43Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, literally. Like, it's for us too. So I loved that episode also, like, thank you so much for the sweet shout out.

• 2:49Drew Afualo?

Oh, my God, are you kidding? I talk about you all the time. I see, I shout your name from the rooftops. Every time someone's like, oh, Disney creators, I'm like, mm, Blake's Pop No Com. It's like, I think about you and Megan the Magical Millennial.

• 3:00Speaker 01

Oh, my queen. I told her I was coming here today because I saw another episode where you mentioned her and her mystery pen Monday. Big shout out, mystery pen Monday. So I love that, I told her I was gonna be here.

• 3:13Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 3:14Speaker 01

Yeah, I know, I'm so excited.

• 3:15Drew Afualo?

Oh, my God, I'm so excited to have you. I, I need to tell you when I first discovered you because I, obviously, your blind boxes have been amazing and I love to watch them. But honestly, watching you complete sets of mystery pens, I was on that bitch.

• 3:32Speaker 01

  Listen.

• 3:32Drew Afualo?

I was on that, I was like, oh, my God, is it gonna be the one? Every time I watch you, I'm like, is it gonna be the one? Oh, my God. Like, I saw you complete the Zootopia Molly one.

• 3:41Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 3:41Drew Afualo?

How ironic, you said I didn't want the whole collection and then you had to finish the collection.

• 3:45Speaker 01

Okay, so I will be completely honest, my phone is in my bag and the screen is open because I am uploading a TikTok right now.

• 3:53Speaker 01

But it's from another, so there's like other ones, they're not from the same set.

• 3:57Drew Afualo?

  Got you.

• 3:57Speaker 01

But it's something that I said I wouldn't buy and here I am. So, and I said in the video, like, you're all gonna clock me because I always say, I'm not interested in the whole set and then, there we go.

• 4:07Drew Afualo?

And when you say that, the universe makes sure you complete the set before you get the one that you want.

• 4:11Speaker 01

Yeah, okay, but thank you for locking in. I always think to myself, like, because I get that comment a lot, like, I'm so dialed, like, even people who don't do pins.

• 4:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 4:19Speaker 01

And I'm like, I wish I could experience it, but then I'm like, no, I am. Like, I'm like the one making the video.

• 4:26Drew Afualo?

  Experience you opening it?

• 4:26Speaker 01

Right, right. I'm like, I wanna watch.

• 4:28Drew Afualo?

I know, for real, I'd love to know how you got into creation, like, just general Disney creation overall.

• 4:34Speaker 01

Well, COVID, which like, I feel like is pretty classic.

• 4:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, what's your background in? What were you doing?

• 4:40Speaker 01

So I have always been an artist.

• 4:42Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 4:43Speaker 01

I went to college for graphic design.

• 4:45Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 4:45Speaker 01

So I've worked professionally as a designer for like eight years.

• 4:48Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 4:49Speaker 01

Um, I went to Cal Poly in like central California, so.

• 4:52Drew Afualo?

  Cal Poly Pomona.

• 4:53Speaker 01

High High High Mustang. So I, yeah, I like got a job straight out of school, working for my dad, who's also a designer. He like runs a firm in my hometown Ventura. And I just like worked there in-house like as a like agency job. And then I started working for Press Juicery.

• 5:11Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 5:12Speaker 01

In twenty twenty. So was so fortunate to get a job when everyone was losing their job. So I worked there just as a print and digital designer and like assisted our photographer and stuff. Um, and was there for like almost three years.

• 5:26Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 5:26Speaker 01

And I got laid off in twenty twenty-three.

• 5:28Drew Afualo?

  Damn.

• 5:29Speaker 01

  It was like layoff season.

• 5:30Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 5:31Speaker 01

I've like healed. I I have love for you, Press. Like, it's all good.

• 5:35Drew Afualo?

That's good, because I don't have any healing whatsoever.

• 5:38Speaker 01

  Right.

• 5:39Drew Afualo?

  The people who fired me.

• 5:40Speaker 01

Yeah, I have like, I have friends who still like, we're like at the mall, we like walk by the store and they like give a little middle finger and I'm like, it's fine, it's fine.

• 5:46Drew Afualo?

  It's okay, we're good now.

• 5:47Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 5:47Drew Afualo?

  Buried hatchet, yeah.

• 5:48Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, the hatchet is buried at six feet under. Um, so I was super bummed, but like I had been casually creating content like since COVID.

• 5:57Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 5:57Speaker 01

Um, at least in like the Disney space and stuff, because I actually have.

• 6:00Drew Afualo?

  Just for fun.

• 6:01Speaker 01

Yeah, just for fun. I have like a kind of a rich history and not rich, actually, because I was always broke. But I have like a rich history in content, because I have had Instagram since its creation.

• 6:12Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 6:13Speaker 01

And in high school, I was like a visco girly.

• 6:15Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 6:15Speaker 01

And and we're like exactly the same age, right?

• 6:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I'm thirty-two.

• 6:18Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 6:18Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 6:18Speaker 01

  It's like, so like.

• 6:20Drew Afualo?

So I was there with you, yeah, like on the ground floor.

• 6:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:24Drew Afualo?

That was when social media was purely fun.

• 6:25Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 6:26Drew Afualo?

  It was purely fun.

• 6:27Speaker 01

  By the way.

• 6:27Drew Afualo?

Yeah, just fun. Yeah, just fun and exciting.

• 6:30Speaker 01

I was not locked into the built-in filters on Instagram. I was a visco girl.

• 6:35Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 6:35Speaker 01

I like cared about the aesthetic, the vibe. And I was like an art kid too, so like I loved all of that. But in college, I kinda started like doing self-portraiture and stuff.

• 6:44Drew Afualo?

  Oh, nice.

• 6:45Speaker 01

And I was like really in my like lifestyle bag from like two thousand eighteen to twenty twenty one.

• 6:49Drew Afualo?

  Oh, too.

• 6:50Speaker 01

So like if anyone ever does a deep dive on my like personal page, Blake Silva, shout out to the old me. It's like I I was doing like high concept, like like self-portrait on the side of the road with a tripod. Like just crazy all the time, shooting every day. And I just got so burnt out because I wanted it so badly. And it was before like video was a big thing.

• 7:12Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, right.

• 7:14Speaker 01

I like to think that now I get to kind of do all the things that I love because I worked so hard on like doing lifestyle stuff. And I didn't even know what I wanted out of it. I was like, I guess I could work with like clothing brands or like whatever.

• 7:25Drew Afualo?

Right. And that's probably why it didn't hit the same way your stuff hits now.

• 7:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:29Drew Afualo?

Because it was no, it wasn't like attached to you.

• 7:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:33Drew Afualo?

  And like.

• 7:33Speaker 01

It was just like, I wanted to look good and it's fun, but I also like wanted to pop off and I think that's why I didn't.

• 7:39Drew Afualo?

And that's tea. I say that all the time. I'm like, sometimes if you want it too bad or if you go into it with the explicit, I want to be rich and famous, I really do think the universe like withholds.

• 7:49Speaker 01

Yeah, and I I do think like I was making friends and stuff, but like I had zero community.

• 7:54Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 7:54Speaker 01

And like now I have such a cool community.

• 7:57Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:57Speaker 01

And so like in COVID, I was like, you know what, let me just like post about my Funko Pops and let me post about my Animal Crossing Island.

• 8:04Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and things that bring you joy.

• 8:06Speaker 01

And that's actually where my username came from.

• 8:08Drew Afualo?

  Oh, really?

• 8:09Speaker 01

It was never, my name was not in it at first. It was just The Pop Nook. And I was posting about my Funko Pops and I was posting about my Animal Crossing Island because Tom Nook from Animal Crossing. So fast forward, like it's like evolved and stuff so much. And I remember I like got invited to my first like movie premiere.

• 8:25Drew Afualo?

Oh, fun. What was it? Do you remember?

• 8:27Speaker 01

  Bullet Train.

• 8:28Drew Afualo?

Oh, Bullet Train. I went to that one, the one here in LA. Oh, my God. I know for real. I literally went to that one. I'm not kidding. I walked carpet. Yeah, if I remember, yes, I do remember it. I walked the carpet. I walked off, got in my car, went home.

• 8:41Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 8:42Drew Afualo?

I didn't even see the movie.

• 8:43Speaker 01

So I was sat front row. I was like this. And like, I was nervous, like, my roommate and I at the time, we went and like, probably had like, a little bit too much to drink, because it was free.

• 8:52Drew Afualo?

  It was, yeah, that's true.

• 8:54Speaker 01

And so it was not good. I was like, so sick, sitting in the front, like, I don't even know what's going on.

• 8:58Drew Afualo?

Oh, my god, I can't even imagine the motion sickness.

• 9:00Speaker 01

But was really close to Benito, so.

• 9:02Drew Afualo?

  So trade off.

• 9:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:04Drew Afualo?

So it worked off, it worked out.

• 9:05Speaker 01

But that was like, my turning point, where I like, added my name into my handle, because I was on the red carpet. And I was like, oh, my god, I'm like, so embarrassed. They're probably like, what, what the hell is a pop nook? Like, she's like, holding my paper, that's like, at the pop nook. And it's fine, like, a lot of people don't have their name in it, but it was just sort of this, like, moment where I was like, I really like occupying these spaces, and I want people to like, know that I'm here, because it's me, not just like, something.

• 9:28Drew Afualo?

  Branding.

• 9:28Speaker 01

Yeah, so, added my name. Um, I won't get into it right now, I could like, tell you later, but there's like, some drama with like, my username right now, where I like, had a little situation recently.

• 9:38Drew Afualo?

  Interesting.

• 9:38Speaker 01

So I'm actually like, kind of rebranding, but it's just me, so like, my handle on TikTok currently is just Blake Silva.

• 9:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 9:45Speaker 01

Um, and like YouTube and stuff.

• 9:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 9:47Speaker 01

And it's not, I don't have it on Instagram yet, but that's just the goal, is just, I've, it's become such an extension of just like, my truest self, that I'm like.

• 9:54Drew Afualo?

Which is true, like, it's, it's a multifaceted thing.

• 9:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:57Drew Afualo?

Like, it's, it's gone so far beyond.

• 9:59Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 9:59Drew Afualo?

Like, just Funko Pops or anything.

• 10:00Speaker 01

When people say hi and stuff, it's like, are you Blake Silva? They don't say, are you the Pop Nook or whatever, anymore. So I've sort of like, grown into this like, different space. Yes, I love Disney, yes, I love pins, but like, it's become this like, really cool new thing.

• 10:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 10:15Speaker 01

And that's what I want anyway, and I also like, really believe in the like, creator to talent pipeline, like, I want so much more than just like,

• 10:21Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 10:22Speaker 01

  Making videos.

• 10:22Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 10:23Speaker 01

So, um, that's like, a long way around, to be like, that's how I got into it, but I went full time when I got laid off. Cause I just was, the new like, rewards program on TikTok came out, and I was like, wow, I just made like, four months of salary pay in one month on TikTok.

• 10:38Drew Afualo?

  No, dead ass.

• 10:38Speaker 01

And so I was like, okay, like, sure.

• 10:41Drew Afualo?

Yeah, for real, it's one of those like, okay, I think this is like, that was gonna be my next question, is when you felt like, okay, I think this is becoming a thing.

• 10:48Speaker 01

Yeah, and I wasn't sure, like, I, I never would have quit my job for it.

• 10:51Drew Afualo?

  Right, same.

• 10:52Speaker 01

Yeah, I never would have been like, I'm gonna do it, and I'm gonna take the leap. I just kind of got pushed.

• 10:57Drew Afualo?

  Right, same.

• 10:58Speaker 01

And I always just say that press set me free, like, they didn't let me go, so.

• 11:01Drew Afualo?

  That's so T.

• 11:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:03Drew Afualo?

  That's so T.

• 11:03Speaker 01

And I know like, your story too, because I'm a fan, so, like.

• 11:07Drew Afualo?

No, you're right, though, like, and sometimes I joke, and I'm like, you guys wanna be famous on TikTok, you gotta get fired.

• 11:11Speaker 01

  No, literally, literally.

• 11:13Drew Afualo?

  Don't do that.

• 11:14Speaker 01

  Go to your boss.

• 11:16Drew Afualo?

  Go do something fucked up.

• 11:17Speaker 01

  Slide him a twenty.

• 11:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 11:18Speaker 01

  Please let me go.

• 11:20Drew Afualo?

No, yeah, no, for real, but you're right, because I feel like it, even though we've only hung out a couple of times, I really do feel like you're like me in the sense of, you know, this is great and this is fun and I really do want to do this, but I have responsibilities.

• 11:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:31Drew Afualo?

  Which is how I was.

• 11:32Speaker 01

  Like paying rent.

• 11:33Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 11:33Speaker 01

  Like food on the table.

• 11:34Drew Afualo?

Bills, yeah, like, man, I have to feed myself, like, there are, there are things that I have to take care of. So it was the same thing for me, even though I wasn't creating content or anything at the time I got fired. It was one of those where like, I was never gonna leave. Like, I had, I had to be shoved, like, off the edge in order to actually pursue it. And even then, like, I was so lost after I got fired. I was like, never in my life had I ever felt like that before. So it really did kind of like, just happen, like the same way that you're describing it happened. Oh shit, girl, you're telling me.

• 12:05Speaker 01

God. It's so cool. I don't know, I'm like so grateful. I, I literally like, every time I'm in a space, I mean, I think a little healthy imposter syndrome is good sometimes because

• 12:13Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 12:14Speaker 01

  Keeps you like grounded, yeah.

• 12:15Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 12:16Speaker 01

And not to be like, I'm so humble, I walk in the room and don't think I deserve to be there. Like, I know that I deserve to be there.

• 12:21Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 12:21Speaker 01

But I have these moments all the time where I'm like, someone's gonna ask me to leave, like.

• 12:26Drew Afualo?

Well, it's also one of those things where it's good to check in with yourself.

• 12:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:29Drew Afualo?

Because I, I've said that before about this business, which I'm sure you know now too. It gets to a point sometimes with me that we're like, I'm like, yeah, see, I, I get why sometimes this business makes people turn evil.

• 12:43Speaker 01

  Oh, totally.

• 12:43Drew Afualo?

Because the, the money, the access, the like exposure, like if you're not grounded in something, like whether it's reality or something else.

• 12:52Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:53Drew Afualo?

It really will turn you into a monster because you just have too much free rein, I guess is the point.

• 12:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:59Drew Afualo?

So I'm like, it is good to check in with yourself and be like, am I being crazy? Like, sometimes I have to check in with myself and be like, eh, I'm never bigger than the program, I guess is my point. I always try to keep that top of mind, but that's also probably because we came from nothing.

• 13:13Speaker 01

  Right.

• 13:13Drew Afualo?

So like, it's easy for us.

• 13:14Speaker 01

It's like an accident. Yeah, and it helps to have like a partner that grounds you, like, I know you have that and like, my partner Matt, shout out.

• 13:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, we love Matt.

• 13:22Speaker 01

Love Matt. He's just so wonderful. We're like going on 10 years and he's seen me through like.

• 13:27Drew Afualo?

  You and me both queens.

• 13:28Speaker 01

I know, we're literally just saying it's kind of cuckoo.

• 13:31Drew Afualo?

  We're twins, literally.

• 13:32Speaker 01

But like, he's seen me through like every different phase of like my creative journey. Like, he's a full-time musician, incredible singer, and like, it's so wild to be in these like spaces where we like have both been in the scenario where like, is this like scary to like pursue these like

• 13:48Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 13:48Speaker 01

big dream careers? But it's just so nice to like do it at the same time.

• 13:53Drew Afualo?

Absolutely. And then to have someone who understands, especially the scheduling of everything, because it is so random and like the travel is a lot and it's so random. So like, I know you're.

• 14:04Speaker 01

We do long distance, so like we go between Nashville and LA. So like, doing that, I actually think it helps to be long distance in the jobs that we're doing because we see each other all the time.

• 14:14Drew Afualo?

  Oh, that is so nice.

• 14:15Speaker 01

I'll go on trips, he was just with me in New York.

• 14:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 14:17Speaker 01

So like, we get to go do all these things together and it kind of like makes that feel like less because it almost feels like the time apart is like time that normal people would spend like working apart.

• 14:27Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 14:28Speaker 01

So it's like, we get to like come together for the work stuff and we just have fun and yeah, it's great.

• 14:31Drew Afualo?

Yeah, sometimes when we talk to, I'm sure you have this too, like if you have friends or family who don't do creative jobs for a living, because obviously, most of my friends are in this business, but I have a lot of friends and family who are not. And sometimes when we go do things and I invite them, I'm like, sometimes my cousin, like my cousin Josh, he'll be like, girl, I have a real job. Like, I can't just fucking go. And I'm like, okay, so.

• 14:54Speaker 01

You're like, well, it'd be super easy because it's like a Tuesday at nine a.m.

• 14:56Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and I was like, yeah, literally, I'm like, well, it's Wednesday and it's 12. And I'm literally like, well, I have a bullshit made up job, so that's why I'm allowed to do it. Because I have that frame, that reign to do so. Literally because I have a made up job.

• 15:07Speaker 01

  Right.

• 15:07Drew Afualo?

  Which you do too.

• 15:08Speaker 01

Yeah, like I created it actually from scratch.

• 15:12Drew Afualo?

I also do want to tell you, now that I'm thinking about all your many hats that you wear.

• 15:17Speaker 01

I'm actually not wearing a hat today, which I normally am.

• 15:19Drew Afualo?

Yeah, normally you are. The metaphorical hats that you're always wearing. Your cover of the song from Elemental. I love it.

• 15:26Speaker 01

Oh my god, I have chosen this. Thank you.

• 15:28Drew Afualo?

I'm so dead ass. It brings tears.

• 15:30Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 15:30Drew Afualo?

And I know I'm laughing, but I'm laughing because it's so funny to tell you to your face.

• 15:34Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 15:35Drew Afualo?

And that is one of my favorite Disney movies.

• 15:38Speaker 01

  Oh, same.

• 15:39Drew Afualo?

So I literally showed when you were posting like that cover specifically, I showed my man and I was like, he's eaten. Like, I don't know what to tell you. Like, it's, he's eaten.

• 15:48Speaker 01

  That's so kind.

• 15:49Drew Afualo?

Love. And that's one of my favorite.

• 15:50Speaker 01

Thank you so much. That's like, I mean, I've been singing since I was in high school. So like, I love that I get to share that.

• 15:56Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 15:56Speaker 01

And I did a cappella in college.

• 15:59Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 15:59Speaker 01

  Okay, listen, wait.

• 16:00Drew Afualo?

  Okay, trouble tones.

• 16:01Speaker 01

Just one moment. So Sam Luis Sabesbo, we call it slow. My group was called Take It Slow. Shout out Take It Slow. Listen, in the moment, you like really think that a cappella is the coolest thing?

• 16:16Drew Afualo?

It's like equivalent to me to improv.

• 16:19Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 16:19Drew Afualo?

So like everyone, trust me, many people I know and love dearly, Amanda herself, she's one of them. She takes improv.

• 16:25Speaker 01

  I love that.

• 16:26Drew Afualo?

I know because she tells me every Wednesday I have to leave because I have improv. She tells me every Wednesday. So like a lot of my friends take improv. Every time they talk to me about it, they're like, yeah, was it humiliating and awful? Yes.

• 16:36Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 16:37Drew Afualo?

But also, it was life changing. And I think that's how a cappella is.

• 16:42Speaker 01

Recently, I kind of like snapped out of it. Like, I'm not even gonna lie. Because Matt, again, we were like talking and I think something came up. I said something like, oh yeah, like, you know, throwback to like when we did this and Take It Slow. And Matt was like, throwback to when you did a cappella? And I was like, why did you say it like that?

• 16:57Drew Afualo?

  What was that?

• 16:58Speaker 01

  First of all.

• 16:59Drew Afualo?

  Tone?

• 16:59Speaker 01

Like drag me also. Like, yeah. But I had a moment where I was like, wait, yeah. Not great. Not great. But like, we're on Spotify. Like, it's pretty sick.

• 17:09Drew Afualo?

Okay, sweet. Fuck a period. And that's the funniest part because my friends who do improv, same thing. They're like, no, yeah, like obviously humiliating and awful. And I'm really proud of all the work I put into it.

• 17:21Speaker 01

I don't know if improv has like any of the pretentious community, but like a cappella, like I do not find community in a cappella people in Los Angeles because I'll be at like a function and you know, small talk. People are like, where'd you go to school? Like, what do you do? What did you do before this?

• 17:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 17:38Speaker 01

And a cappella always comes up because like, why not? It's like a fun nugget.

• 17:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 17:42Speaker 01

And like, I'll talk to the wrong person and be like, I did a cappella. And they're like, what group were you in? And I'm like, oh my god, like.

• 17:49Drew Afualo?

  Oh, on a cappella elitist.

• 17:51Speaker 01

I swear you don't know my group. It wasn't USC and it wasn't Berkeley.

• 17:56Drew Afualo?

You're going na na na na na na na na na. You're trying to assign me to these bad ones. I was in a good one.

• 18:01Speaker 01

12 followers on Instagram. Like, don't worry about it. Don't Google. It's really funny.

• 18:06Drew Afualo?

That's so, and honestly, like, I, this is like sometimes shocking to people to hear, but like, I was an athlete growing up. All I did was sports. Like, that's what I did. I did all throughout all my levels of schooling. I, all I ever played was sports. And if I had the time, I promise you, I would have been in every improv group. If I could sing, I would have joined choir or something.

• 18:27Speaker 01

  We have soccer in common.

• 18:28Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 18:29Speaker 01

And I played soccer for like 10 years.

• 18:30Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 18:31Speaker 01

And I got to college and I was like, I'm over it. I'm not playing soccer anymore. And so I did a cappella. I needed an extracurricular.

• 18:39Drew Afualo?

Literally. And when I went to college, that was when I really started taking like fun classes, like, like in the arts. Because all I fucking did was sports and then I was also a good student. Not a flex, it's just true.

• 18:50Speaker 01

  Right.

• 18:50Drew Afualo?

I was a good student too. So I was in like, all the serious, like, hard classes. And then I played sports. That was it. I didn't get to do anything fun.

• 18:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 18:58Drew Afualo?

So I took like drama, I took like, fun little like, different like, um, which, what was another one I took? I took one about like, um.

• 19:06Speaker 01

  This was in college?

• 19:07Drew Afualo?

Yes. I took like cultural history. I took one where, um, like in my Samoan language class, which I took in college too, which was cool. They offered it as another language. And it was a four credit course because it was so fucking hard. There was like extracurriculars to that too, where we could go to like, uh, do an umu, which is like an earth oven and stuff like that. I was taking all the fun shit.

• 19:25Speaker 01

  Wait, that's iconic.

• 19:26Drew Afualo?

Yeah. I was like, I never got to do anything fucking fun because I was playing sports for so goddamn long.

• 19:30Speaker 01

  Right.

• 19:30Drew Afualo?

But now when I tell people that, I'm like, no, I honestly was an athlete. They're like, really? You never did improv or anything like that? I was like, no bitch. I just came out like this. I was like, my family's just like really fast and funny and that's kind of how it. Worked out for me.

• 19:42Speaker 01

Hey, and now we have jobs from scratch.

• 19:45Drew Afualo?

And now we have made up jobs. Okay, tell me about singing. What's your goals with singing? Like, I would love to know, like.

• 19:50Speaker 01

No, I appreciate you even bringing it up because I like sometimes forget that I'm like wildly passionate about it because I just like have so many things like.

• 19:57Drew Afualo?

Cause you're a workhorse like me.

• 19:58Speaker 01

  I sure am.

• 19:59Drew Afualo?

Your eyes on the money, eyes on the bag.

• 20:01Speaker 01

Am, I'm chasing, yeah. Um, so a cappella was kind of like the first, like ironically, the first time I ever like took it seriously.

• 20:07Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 20:08Speaker 01

And I am a person of faith. I come from a Christian household, but I also am a black sheep because I have kept my faith intact. Even being homosexual. So I am a firm believer that you can be both.

• 20:21Drew Afualo?

  Hell, yeah.

• 20:21Speaker 01

Um, because Jesus is not, Jesus is not the one that everybody says he is. I don't think.

• 20:26Drew Afualo?

  I agree with you.

• 20:26Speaker 01

Yeah. And so I, um, I'm actually a worship leader currently.

• 20:30Drew Afualo?

  Oh, wow. Look at you.

• 20:31Speaker 01

Worship has always been a huge part of my life. Um, and that was kind of where I like got into singing in high school. So that was like, it was always just something that was sort of a small part.

• 20:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 20:39Speaker 01

And so now with like my audiences and stuff online, like people desire to know more of those things about you. And people also love to find out the new things. Like, that's why it's so fun to even just do stuff like this where we're, we're kind of getting to know each other as well. Because I'm like, I don't know, some people might not know that I did a cappella or whatever, like what my group was called, right? But I played soccer, like there's so many things. And that's also one thing about being a creator, especially in like the Disney sphere where like people kind of just like. They're like, okay, you're in the box and I'm closing the box and then I'll come get you and I want to open the box. Yeah, yeah. And I try really hard to like be more than that. It's also a part of the name change and everything, like changing my handle. It's just me, yeah. So with singing, I always was kind of like, I want people to like know it about me, but I don't really know what I want from it.

• 21:23Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:24Speaker 01

And so it's always, I think I've always had a really beautiful relationship with music because I didn't ask anything of it. And, um.

• 21:31Drew Afualo?

That's a beautiful way of looking at it.

• 21:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, totally. Like I, cause I don't.

• 21:34Drew Afualo?

  It's a passion.

• 21:35Speaker 01

Yeah, absolutely. But I think it's, it's found a really nice way into my life as of late.

• 21:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:40Speaker 01

Um, where I feel like I can sort of. Like have a harmonious like give and take where I'm like, I do kind of want something of this, but I'm just gonna like invest myself in it first and then just like see how that turns out. So I like love that that's something that you bring up, like that's something on people's mind when they see me now. Like that's a fun thing for people to know. So the big goal, I would love to like with my Disney self, I would love to like sing in a show for a firework show or something.

• 22:12Drew Afualo?

Oh, how fun. Me getting chills.

• 22:14Speaker 01

Oh, my God. I want to so badly. So I'm working on an album right now.

• 22:18Drew Afualo?

  How fun.

• 22:19Speaker 01

  It's all Disney covers.

• 22:20Drew Afualo?

  How cute.

• 22:21Speaker 01

So you mentioning Steal the Show, it's like my favorite thing I've ever done.

• 22:24Drew Afualo?

  Really? I didn't know that.

• 22:25Speaker 01

I love that song so much.

• 22:27Drew Afualo?

I do too. That's why when I saw it, it brought tears to my eyes.

• 22:31Speaker 01

And also like normalize, where's my camera? Normalize listening to your art, okay? I I want like, I want to hear the things that I did because I cared enough to record them.

• 22:42Drew Afualo?

Girl, listen, one thing you don't gotta do here is justify gassing yourself to me.

• 22:46Speaker 01

So I'm like, that's my favorite thing I've done.

• 22:48Drew Afualo?

I say that same thing about about my book. Yeah. Because even when I my book came out initially.

• 22:53Speaker 01

  By the way.

• 22:53Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 22:54Speaker 01

And I did the audio book because I wanted to hear you.

• 22:56Drew Afualo?

Period. And thank you. I appreciate that. But even when I was like first talking about marketing it, like, especially because like my kind of content is very specific. And so like, they were like, you know, like, how comfortable do you feel like self promoting?

• 23:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:11Drew Afualo?

Because there is an option. Like, a lot of times you don't have to do that if you don't want to. And I was like, oh, let me tell you something. If I work that hard on that book, someone's gonna hear about it.

• 23:19Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 23:20Drew Afualo?

It's my page. I'm gonna post about it.

• 23:22Speaker 01

  I labored.

• 23:22Drew Afualo?

Because I'm proud of it. And that matters. Like, and I'm a firm believer too that like, putting it out in the universe in a well-intentioned way will reward you.

• 23:31Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 23:32Drew Afualo?

And I was like, I'm gonna talk about it because I'm proud of it and I love it. And if you don't like it, that's okay, but I love it.

• 23:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:37Drew Afualo?

And that's and that's all that matters. So I encourage you to do that more.

• 23:40Speaker 01

  Yeah, thank you.

• 23:41Drew Afualo?

  Because I think that's a beautiful thing.

• 23:42Speaker 01

Yeah. And with like music and singing, like I'm sitting on this thing that I love and I'm passionate about. And I also love to pour myself into and I have this audience or audiences. And we have the ability to be seen by so many people. And my manifestation this year is that I'm being talked about in rooms I don't know exist. So like, that's the big thing is like, I put a video out and I have no idea who's gonna be like, wait, him. You know what I mean? So-

• 24:05Drew Afualo?

And can I tell you something? This is the spot you manifest because I was like, literally so many of my friends who have come on here and talked about, oh, I really want to do this. It has come true.

• 24:15Speaker 01

  I love that.

• 24:15Drew Afualo?

Perfect example is Miss Dylan Mulvaney.

• 24:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:18Drew Afualo?

In Six. Last time she was here-

• 24:20Speaker 01

  I'm so excited for her.

• 24:21Drew Afualo?

Last time she was here, she talked about wanting to be in Broadway. We talked about Six specifically. Anna and I, same thing. Anna and I, when she came here the second time, talked about Broadway. I said, what's your dream show? Like, tell me-

• 24:34Speaker 01

There's something going on right now. What are they in?

• 24:35Drew Afualo?

  She's in Rocky Horror.

• 24:36Speaker 01

  Period.

• 24:37Drew Afualo?

And I was literally like, and let me tell you something, I, I control it. I'm puppetry.

• 24:42Speaker 01

Well, no, I was actually on the way here, I was listening to you and Eric. And you were talking about your like Virgo manifestation, or like your, your, uh, being in tune.

• 24:52Drew Afualo?

  I'm so psychic.

• 24:52Speaker 01

You were talking about all these things and I was like, okay, I'm gonna go sit in that chair.

• 24:56Drew Afualo?

That's why I said this is the chair.

• 24:58Speaker 01

I'm like absorbing all the people who came before me.

• 25:01Drew Afualo?

All the good juju. Yeah. And I think that's a beautiful thing. And I think it's well within reach, obviously.

• 25:06Speaker 01

Totally. And there's like so many things you can do with it. Like, at the end of the day, I'm immortalizing like a time of my life, the songs that I love, the things that I'm doing. It's like, I'll always be able to have that. And I have a duet with Matt coming out at the end of this month.

• 25:17Drew Afualo?

  Oh, fun.

• 25:18Speaker 01

You'll be in my heart. Spoiler.

• 25:20Drew Afualo?

  Oh, how cute.

• 25:22Speaker 01

And, you know, I have a couple other duets, one actually with the Magical Millennial, Megan.

• 25:26Drew Afualo?

Oh, my god, no, wait, me getting chills again.

• 25:29Speaker 01

She has a beautiful voice and we did a song together from the movie Wish. And, uh, yeah, I'm just like so excited about all the things and whatever comes of it, amazing. If nothing came of it, that's actually impossible because I have the thing. So-

• 25:46Drew Afualo?

  Exactly.

• 25:46Speaker 01

Um, I don't even know if it's done, if I'm gonna do more. I have like nine tracks right now. Three of them haven't come out yet. But they're all different and I just want them to kind of serve as like a vocal reel portfolio. Like I also really like it's a dream of mine to like voice a character in a movie or something. So if I also sing, I feel like I have like a leg up, even if that's, I don't know.

• 26:07Drew Afualo?

No, you're actually right because especially for Disney ones, they do ask you, can you sing? And I can say that confidently because they have asked me and I've said no, and they still made me sing.

• 26:17Speaker 01

  Oh, no. Oh, my god.

• 26:20Drew Afualo?

So and and just in case you're wondering, no, I didn't book it and I think it's because I can't sing.

• 26:26Speaker 01

Wait, so you're not gonna be the star of the next movie that is a musical?

• 26:31Drew Afualo?

Right, right. And you know what's funny is like I can say this now because it's been long enough now. Um, before Moana two was announced, I like two years before that, I like got a read from Disney. And they were like, oh, like we love Drew. We really want her to read for this role. Mind you, I hadn't been doing any acting, anything at the time. So they reached out to me and then they said like, can she sing? And this is the one I've talked about before where I like had they had me sing like my team goes, no, she can't. Because I said, no, I can't like I told my team, I cannot sing. Um, that doesn't mean I'm tone deaf. I just like can't sing. So like it's, I think there's a big difference, right?

• 27:08Speaker 01

  I agree.

• 27:09Drew Afualo?

So I was like, it's not that I'm bad. It's just I'm not good enough to call myself a singer, if that makes sense.

• 27:14Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 27:14Drew Afualo?

So they were like, okay, yeah, no, perfect. And then like, I don't know, a month goes by and then they go, okay, we need this audition by Friday. A minute a cappella singing, no music. And I was like, how the fuck?

• 27:25Speaker 01

Did they say like sing this?

• 27:26Drew Afualo?

Yeah, well, they said, sing a song, please sing a song that is like popular or like most people would know. Like, so they said, like, don't sing a deep cut essentially, but they wanted me to film myself singing a cappella. And like also the the lines that I had gotten, it was clear that it was like a older woman. And she was supposed to be bad, like she's supposed to be evil. But the the character lines they had me read were for a two headed bird. So I was like, right, okay. And also it said the woman was in her 40s. Right, okay, perfect. A woman in her 40s who can't sing? I can't sing. So then I did the lines, I also did the a cappella. Whatever now that Moana two has come out and I worked it with Moana two and loved it.

• 28:07Drew Afualo?

Uh, I think it was for the role of the woman who like helps her get out of that upside down like place.

• 28:14Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 28:14Drew Afualo?

Like the big woman who has the bats and all that.

• 28:16Speaker 01

Wait, so, wait, for the live action?

• 28:18Drew Afualo?

  No, for one of two.

• 28:19Speaker 01

Oh, I was like, are they merging the stories?

• 28:22Drew Afualo?

No, no, from one of two. You saw one of two, right?

• 28:24Speaker 01

  I, I loved it.

• 28:25Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I loved it. And she ends with my tattoo. Yes!

• 28:28Speaker 01

  Did all the music.

• 28:29Drew Afualo?

And they're also my friends, Emily Bear and Abigail, and Abigail's also on that new run with Dylan.

• 28:34Speaker 01

  Yeah, I saw that.

• 28:35Drew Afualo?

  Isn't that crazy?

• 28:36Speaker 01

  So cool.

• 28:36Drew Afualo?

Oh my god, it all connects. But I, I literally, when I saw him one of two and I saw that character, I was like, oh, you bitches are tripping. You thought I could sing that shit?

• 28:45Speaker 01

  Oh, and she sings?

• 28:46Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was like, oh, and she sings down. I was like, oh, you're nuts. Yeah, I wouldn't have picked.

• 28:49Speaker 01

  Kind of iconic, though.

• 28:50Drew Afualo?

I was like, I wouldn't have picked me either. Yeah, don't pick me, don't pick me, I would have ruined it. Don't pick me.

• 28:55Speaker 01

You said older and I was like, grandma talla. Are we okay?

• 28:59Drew Afualo?

No, for real. When they started talking about the live action, they were like, oh my god, girl, you should have been in there. And I'm like, right? And they go, yeah, grandma talla. I said, hold, hold on. Hold on, okay. Not even one as mom, you guys, you just make me grandma talla. She's dead, by the way, but also like, yeah, preach, thanks, guys.

• 29:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, you'll voice the spirit.

• 29:16Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 29:17Speaker 01

  That doesn't talk.

• 29:18Drew Afualo?

You're a big fat Maui, why don't you do him? Uh, right. I was like, cause my cousin's already, he's taken by my cousin, obviously.

• 29:24Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 29:26Drew Afualo?

What are some of your favorite Broadway musicals?

• 29:28Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 29:29Drew Afualo?

  Since we're talking Broadway, let's.

• 29:31Speaker 01

Well, I am obsessed with Six.

• 29:32Drew Afualo?

  Uh, me too, girl.

• 29:33Speaker 01

I was just talking to your mom before this, I'm like, I've seen Six, six times. I've seen the tour, I've seen it on the west end, I've seen it in New York.

• 29:41Drew Afualo?

  Oh, t, okay.

• 29:43Speaker 01

I really wanted to go see Dylan, but like literally I was in New York.

• 29:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 29:47Speaker 01

And I think I left the day that she started, so.

• 29:49Drew Afualo?

  Damn.

• 29:49Speaker 01

Um, we'll see. Like, please stay on because I need to see it.

• 29:53Drew Afualo?

Her run is till April, I think, so, yeah. I was texting her about it, cause I was like, I have to see you, I have to see you, I have to see you.

• 29:59Speaker 01

I mean, I am sitting in the chair, so I will see it, yeah, yeah.

• 30:02Drew Afualo?

Manifest, manifest, manifest. Honestly, I'll tell, I'll tell Six for you. They follow me on Instagram and they love me. I'll DM them.

• 30:09Speaker 01

  Hey, big fan right here.

• 30:10Drew Afualo?

Six on Broadway, if you're watching, please hit up Blake Silva, please.

• 30:13Speaker 01

Yeah, I know, it's like famously off Broadway, but Little Shop of Horrors is my jam.

• 30:17Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 30:18Speaker 01

I would love to play Seymour, another thing.

• 30:19Drew Afualo?

I was gonna say, I was gonna say, you're giving Seymour.

• 30:22Speaker 01

I was Seymour for Halloween, Matt and I did a singing video for it. I love Hamilton.

• 30:28Drew Afualo?

  Oh, yeah.

• 30:29Speaker 01

And, I don't know, I hate to be like wicked, because everybody loves Wicked, but it was the first show that I saw like on Broadway Broadway.

• 30:36Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 30:37Speaker 01

That's probably like my top four.

• 30:38Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 30:39Speaker 01

  What about you?

• 30:41Drew Afualo?

Six is one of my faves. I always recommend Six to people because I always tell them, whether you love Broadway, or you don't really care for it, you're gonna love that show.

• 30:49Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 30:49Drew Afualo?

Because it's like a big concert.

• 30:50Speaker 01

  No intermission.

• 30:51Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and it's, and it's quick, and it's funny, and it's entertaining, like, when we first saw it, it was for my mom's birthday, so we all went to New York, my mom wanted to see a Broadway show. So I took everyone to Six, actually because Six messaged me, and they're like, do you want to come see the show? And I was like, fuck yeah, yeah, I do.

• 31:04Speaker 01

  Shut up.

• 31:04Drew Afualo?

So we came, and I brought like my man, I brought my dad, my brother, all of whom, and my sister, all of whom don't really care for Broadway at all, and they had a blast.

• 31:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:15Drew Afualo?

They loved it. So every time I'm like, if you have a mixed group of people, pick Six, like, that's a great one.

• 31:20Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 31:21Drew Afualo?

And it's not too, it's not too long either, because sometimes they're a lot, really, really long shows.

• 31:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:25Drew Afualo?

But I love Broadway. I love Six. I love Legally Blonde, it's one of my favorite.

• 31:29Speaker 01

I have not seen Legally Blonde.

• 31:30Drew Afualo?

Oh, my god, Blake, you have to watch Legally Blonde.

• 31:32Speaker 01

  I need to.

• 31:32Drew Afualo?

Has Matt ever seen Legally Blonde?

• 31:34Speaker 01

  I think so.

• 31:34Drew Afualo?

Okay, I think you both are gonna love.

• 31:36Speaker 01

Matt's the first person that I went to a show with, so like, he's like in it, yeah.

• 31:39Drew Afualo?

You have to watch Legally Blonde. Oh, my god, the soundtrack is unbelievable.

• 31:42Speaker 01

And I've heard a lot of the songs, so it's time.

• 31:44Drew Afualo?

It's so good. So that, that one, The Color Purple, that's one of my favorite Broadway shows.

• 31:48Speaker 01

  Matt saw Cynthia twice.

• 31:49Drew Afualo?

No way, I'm so jealous, me getting chills again, I'm so jealous. I told, I told her, when she was on the show, I told her, I was like, you know, your cover of "I'm Here" from The Color Purple was my number one song two years in a row on Spotify. Now, does that tell you where I was at mentally? Yes. But, love that song. Huge fan of that song.

• 32:11Speaker 01

  Right.

• 32:12Drew Afualo?

Also, I know not a lot of people love it, but Dear Evan Hansen, I do actually really love that.

• 32:16Speaker 01

I have not seen the show, but I know like every.

• 32:18Drew Afualo?

  The soundtrack.

• 32:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 32:19Drew Afualo?

  Soundtrack.

• 32:20Speaker 01

I saw the movie, but I heard the show's better.

• 32:21Drew Afualo?

I saw the movie too. I saw the movie too, and was it kind of bad? Yeah, but I still enjoyed myself.

• 32:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 32:27Drew Afualo?

  Yes, I did enjoy myself.

• 32:28Speaker 01

  I still enjoyed.

• 32:29Drew Afualo?

I will say too, when we went to see that in theaters, I took my mom and sister. And Jason, again, doesn't really care for Broadway. My mom loves Broadway, but doesn't watch it a ton. So we go to Dear Evan Hansen. We were like five, 10 minutes late. So I already know what happened. My mom, in the middle of everything going, who is that? Who is that? Is that guy new? Who is that? Oh, this is a musical? Like, my mom literally goes, oh, is this a musical? And I go, you have to stop. Like, literally in the theater, I went, you have to stop. You have to stop. Please. You have to stop. Please. You're killing me. If you have any questions.

• 32:59Speaker 01

They're gonna be singing the whole time.

• 33:00Drew Afualo?

  Hold them to the end.

• 33:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:01Drew Afualo?

Hold them to the end, mama. And then, and then when we got home, she was like.

• 33:04Speaker 01

  Your ballad, your scene.

• 33:06Drew Afualo?

She was like, who is that? I don't know who that is. Mom, you're killing me. Mom, you're killing me. Cause I was literally, cause, cause that's like, I love the musical, so I'm like, and I was pissed off, cause uh, Waving Through a Window is one of my favorite ones. Also, one of my top songs on Spotify.

• 33:21Speaker 01

  So good.

• 33:21Drew Afualo?

Also alluding to my mental health at the time. That's neither here nor there.

• 33:25Speaker 01

Yeah, that show is like very poignant. Yeah.

• 33:28Drew Afualo?

Yeah. But I was also very like, I was so annoyed, cause we missed my favorite song, cause we were late.

• 33:33Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 33:34Drew Afualo?

And then my mom goes, who is that? Who is that? I was like, you're killing me.

• 33:38Drew Afualo?

Those are some of my favorite shows, but I, you've been to the West End. How fun.

• 33:42Speaker 01

Oh, my gosh. Yeah. So I went to Europe last year, my first time ever.

• 33:46Drew Afualo?

  Oh, tea.

• 33:47Speaker 01

And I went to London and then Paris, but I had like a free day in London. And I went and saw back to back. I saw Wicked and then Six.

• 33:56Drew Afualo?

Oh, my god, what a night.

• 33:58Speaker 01

It was so fun. And I was by myself. It was just like the best thing ever. I was very jet lagged, but I was just like.

• 34:03Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my god.

• 34:04Speaker 01

Dozing, but like, I'm, I'm here. Yeah. Uh, so fun. I also, um, saw The Notebook last year.

• 34:10Drew Afualo?

Was it good? I heard it was good. I heard the soundtrack is crazy.

• 34:15Speaker 01

So like Matt and I are Joy Wood stands. Like she is everything. I saw her in Little Shop. We saw her in The Notebook. Matt saw her in Six.

• 34:22Drew Afualo?

Oh, geez. We do love, we're big Six fans.

• 34:26Speaker 01

I mean, it makes sense. Like if I had to clock a musical for you, I feel like Six where they're like dragging.

• 34:30Drew Afualo?

  I'm telling you.

• 34:31Speaker 01

  It's perfect.

• 35:15Speaker 01

Oh, wait, this is such a sidebar. Forgive me, but just to plug you and Jason. We went to see your show in Pasadena.

• 35:25Drew Afualo?

  Oh, that's right.

• 35:26Speaker 01

It was so much fun. Thank you for having us.

• 35:28Drew Afualo?

Oh, my gosh, the one with the insane Q and A?

• 35:30Speaker 01

That we all need to discuss. So basically, we were just, okay, we're so blown away, first of all, because you two are so just like naturally funny.

• 35:38Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 35:39Speaker 01

But someone asked a question like, I'm like on a journey to like try to be more mean, like, how do I do it? And you were telling them like, you just have to like really go specific.

• 35:48Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 35:48Speaker 01

And I saw a comment the other day that like made me think of you and I was like, I have to wait to tell her on the pod because it's so funny. So I'm on threads and like, you know, I like, I love, I'm, I'm like on the very liberal side of threads, but sometimes the like scary stuff comes on my explore page, but it's only because of the comments.

• 36:04Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 36:05Speaker 01

  That are dragging the person.

• 36:06Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 36:06Speaker 01

So there was of course, like something, I don't know what he was talking about, probably something problematic and dumb. But so someone in the comments said, you look easy to draw.

• 36:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 36:19Speaker 01

  And I was like.

• 36:22Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 36:22Speaker 01

  I don't like this man.

• 36:23Drew Afualo?

And did it kinda hurt your feelings? Yeah, when you read it, you're like, damn, that kinda hurts my feelings.

• 36:27Speaker 01

And then the below that, someone drew him.

• 36:30Drew Afualo?

  And I'll prove it.

• 36:31Speaker 01

I was like, that's a good one. We should put that in the arsenal. Um, but so good.

• 36:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you could say you look like I could draw you from memory.

• 36:37Speaker 01

  No, literally.

• 36:38Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, I've said that before. That is so, you look real easy to draw.

• 36:41Speaker 01

Yeah, it feels straight, uh, relevant to six.

• 36:43Drew Afualo?

Exactly. You're so right. It's like, and that is a question I get constantly, which is like, how do I be meaner?

• 36:49Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 36:49Drew Afualo?

To men, like, I was even doing a Q and A the other day, and a girl was like, what do you say to men who, like, every time they see you, they say you're too tall or something like that? Like, what's your response to them? And I literally was like, what are you, hanging out with awful short men constantly? What, do they owe you money or something? What the fuck are you hanging out with them so often? And I was like, I mean, I really, sometimes when people ask me very generalized things like that, I have to tell them, like, I would need more specifics to get, like, actually mean, for real. But I could give you some blanket ones. Like, I told them.

• 37:18Speaker 01

Here's some zingers for your back pocket.

• 37:19Drew Afualo?

And then, like, I was like, you could just say, are you talking to me, like, real confused? And then say, don't you have cookies to make in a tree somewhere? Get out of here, you fucking Keebler. Fuck out of here. It's really like, it really is that easy to me. I, you know what's funny? It's so funny you say that, because this morning I was talking to, uh, my man about this. Because sometimes when I'm getting tagged and stuff, and I can't see the video, I know that person blocked me already. And I know it's like, I know it's bullshit. I know it's hate videos, whatever the fuck.

• 37:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:47Drew Afualo?

And it's literally because I made that video recently with the Hercules audio, which is like, hateys.

• 37:51Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 37:52Drew Afualo?

And it's like him saying, like, and it was me saying, like, me trying to convince women to hate all men. Have I, in the past, I have made it very specific? Because I was just like, well, this is who I'm talking about. But now I'm just like, past the point of wanting to do that anymore.

• 38:06Speaker 01

  Oh, for sure.

• 38:07Drew Afualo?

But of course, I have a bunch of, like, ding dong head ass men coming in my shit going, wow, even me?

• 38:18Drew Afualo?

Especially you bitch. Like, I say that every time Blake. It kills me, it kills me. It kills me. I literally can't take it anymore. I was like, I'm so sick of men coming over here and saying some bullshit to me about like, "Wow, really hard to love myself, is it?" Imagine, if it's hard to love yourself, imagine how other people feel.

• 38:35Speaker 01

  Right.

• 38:36Drew Afualo?

Imagine how women and gay people and trans people feel.

• 38:39Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 38:39Drew Afualo?

  "Oh, is it hard?"

• 38:40Speaker 01

  That part, yeah.

• 38:41Drew Afualo?

  "Is it fucking hard?"

• 38:42Speaker 01

But find community in my comment section, for sure.

• 38:44Drew Afualo?

No, but for sure, come over here and bother me about it.

• 38:46Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 38:47Drew Afualo?

You guys, they, oh my god, the way they wax poetic about how fucking awful I am to them, and yet they still come over here and ask me dumbass questions. Sometimes they'll literally say like, "Um, so I'm guessing you hate your hu- your husband? Are you fucking dumb on purpose, or is it just a hobby?" Like, I literally said, "Are you a dumb bitch for, for sport?" Or is it like, or is it a full-

• 39:12Speaker 01

  Someone paying you.

• 39:12Drew Afualo?

Yeah, is it a full-time job? Cause I get paid to be a dumbass. So do you get paid to be stupid?

• 39:17Speaker 01

  Right.

• 39:17Drew Afualo?

Right, exactly. "I guess you hate your husband." "No, I don't." "Well, why not him? He's better than you." I, the, the questions are very simple.

• 39:25Speaker 01

  I can keep answering them.

• 39:26Drew Afualo?

The answers are very simple. Yeah, I just don't think you'll like the answers to them.

• 39:29Speaker 01

And hey, some people let the hate get to them and you make a paycheck off of it. So...

• 39:35Drew Afualo?

Speaking of, do you get a lot of hate?

• 39:37Speaker 01

  Oh my god, good question.

• 39:38Drew Afualo?

Is there, are people like mean in the Disney community?

• 39:40Speaker 01

You know, well, I guess I could say.

• 39:43Drew Afualo?

  I feel like it depends.

• 39:44Speaker 01

Yeah, it's like a range. I will say, I, I talk about this often with my partner and my family and my friends, like, "I really don't get a lot of hate."

• 39:51Drew Afualo?

  Which is a good thing.

• 39:52Speaker 01

And I feel so lucky. People are watching right now, like, "Oh, you wait."

• 39:54Drew Afualo?

Oh, they're like, "Oh, you need some?"

• 39:58Drew Afualo?

  For real.

• 39:59Speaker 01

  They're like, "I could try."

• 40:00Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 40:01Speaker 01

No, I just, I feel very lucky. Like, I, I really feel like I have a, a pretty positive comment section, TM.

• 40:08Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 40:09Speaker 01

Um, and I, I don't know, I, obviously like I get homophobic people, like, probably more often than anything else. Um, but like-

• 40:18Drew Afualo?

  Which is crazy.

• 40:19Speaker 01

My favorite is when they just comment, "Gay." I'm like, "Tee."

• 40:23Drew Afualo?

  Clocks my TV.

• 40:23Speaker 01

Did you have a question? Like, I'm like, so confused, like, awesome.

• 40:27Drew Afualo?

You just write, yes, with a heart.

• 40:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, precisely.

• 40:30Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 40:30Speaker 01

Um, so it's like, those things don't really faze me. Um, I'm someone that is in my comments a lot because I like to reply.

• 40:37Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 40:37Speaker 01

And I, I feel like I, um, I pride myself on that because I think my viewers like know that about me. Like, they know that if they comment, there's like a chance that I'll see it or, you know, whatever. Um, and there's a detriment to that when it's negative stuff. Cause you don't wanna like toil over it or like let it consume you.

• 40:53Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 40:54Speaker 01

Yeah, I do feel very fortunate that I have like a positive, um, like presence in those spaces.

• 41:00Drew Afualo?

That's so good. I'm glad to hear that.

• 41:01Speaker 01

And, and I don't like, I don't get people like messaging me crazy stuff or I just don't see it and that's fine too.

• 41:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 41:07Speaker 01

Um, or you know, obviously like I'm vocal about like the things that I believe in and stand for and like, there's always, that's always met with something. I got, I get a lot of messages that'll be like, I thought you were different. And I'm like, you literally like are here looking for me to like support this thing. For example, like the president or whatever.

• 41:24Drew Afualo?

Yeah, yeah, you're like, I'm a gay Hispanic man.

• 41:26Speaker 01

  Person's page. The, mm.

• 41:30Drew Afualo?

  Is also not white, so.

• 41:32Speaker 01

  I actually, I actually am.

• 41:34Drew Afualo?

  You're part white?

• 41:34Speaker 01

Yeah, I know, I, my, my background is Portuguese Spanish, so like.

• 41:38Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 41:38Speaker 01

And it's not like, it's not like Spanish Spanish and it's like colonizer Spanish, so like, ugh, but like, my sister.

• 41:45Drew Afualo?

I think it's funny you know that though. They do get, yeah, I get it. Trust me. I get it.

• 41:49Speaker 01

I'm, I'm mostly Portuguese. I'm also Italian, which is just fancy white.

• 41:52Drew Afualo?

Yeah, ethnic white, that's what I call it.

• 41:54Speaker 01

But, um, no, I, it's, it's just funny, like people come on my page and I'm like, the same people that are like expecting me to rally for the thing they believe in. I'm like, you see my existence as political, like.

• 42:04Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 42:04Speaker 01

Like, don't, lest we forget, I post my boyfriend all the time. Like, are you, you're confused.

• 42:09Drew Afualo?

I know, that's how I feel too, when they give me the same, which I find even more shocking.

• 42:14Speaker 01

  Right.

• 42:14Drew Afualo?

To like come to me and be like, what do you mean? You don't like Trump? Are you, again, stupid for sport? Like, I don't know what the fuck that is. Like.

• 42:21Speaker 01

  Right.

• 42:21Drew Afualo?

  Again, it's like, me?

• 42:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:23Drew Afualo?

Of all people, are there some influencers, um, intentionally hiding the fact that they don't vote? Or they voted for someone you don't like?

• 42:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 42:31Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 42:31Drew Afualo?

Am I one of them? Like, go be stupid somewhere else. Like, don't ever ask me some dumb bitch question like that again. The way that I move in this business, everything I've built and, and the way I've built it, what on earth makes you think?

• 42:41Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 42:42Drew Afualo?

That I would let bigots hang out in my house?

• 42:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:44Drew Afualo?

I really do feel like I have a, an endless can of raid with them. I'm like.

• 42:50Speaker 01

  It doesn't run out.

• 42:51Drew Afualo?

Every fucking time I I like post anything about how much I fucking hate ICE. Anytime I talk about trans women, anytime I like uplift gay people, every single time. I'll have at least one dumb white person in my shit going, wow, really? Wow, again.

• 43:08Speaker 01

  Unfollowing. I know.

• 43:11Drew Afualo?

Every time they ask me, do you care if I, oh, so you want me to unfollow you? Yes, yes, yes, I do, yes.

• 43:17Speaker 01

Oh, my god, you got it.

• 43:18Drew Afualo?

  Yes, please, yes, leave.

• 43:21Speaker 01

  That's so funny.

• 43:21Drew Afualo?

And you don't need to tell me.

• 43:23Speaker 01

Well, the like flip side of hate is sometimes just like when people say stuff and it's like so like maybe they don't even mean it. So example, this is like my favorite example of comments that I get, like so very blessed and lucky to get cool PR, right? So like with PR, especially in the Disney space, like whatever.

• 43:39Drew Afualo?

They're stingy in the Disney space.

• 43:41Speaker 01

Oh, totally, but like I feel so lucky every time, but you know, sometimes like they're sending like toys, like I collect stuff, like I I love to post about those things. So like, obviously, I know that like it's something that kids like too.

• 43:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 43:53Speaker 01

But I'll get the comments on my PR sometimes. My four year old would love this and I'm like.

• 43:59Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 43:59Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 44:02Speaker 01

Your four year old doesn't need every man, Jack Spiderman body wash, but.

• 44:07Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 44:08Speaker 01

Okay, but it's always so funny because I like love that comment because I'm like, I don't think that you're like trying to drag me, but drag me.

• 44:16Drew Afualo?

They're like, oh, my god, my impressionable young child also loves that stuff.

• 44:20Speaker 01

Wait, where do I get this for my three year old? And you know what, sometimes, because people ask also just addressing the question.

• 44:27Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 44:27Speaker 01

Um, what do I do with everything?

• 44:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 44:30Speaker 01

I give a lot of it away, to be honest.

• 44:32Drew Afualo?

  Me too, yeah.

• 44:32Speaker 01

It's good to like you can give it to somebody who really, really wants it. I love a lot of the things that I receive, but you can't keep everything like.

• 44:38Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my god, no.

• 44:39Speaker 01

  We would drown in it.

• 44:40Drew Afualo?

The the way there's so many things.

• 44:41Speaker 01

Yeah, so sometimes I get the comment, my four year old would love this and I message them and I send it to their four year old.

• 44:46Drew Afualo?

  Oh, I love that.

• 44:47Speaker 01

It's it's great. I'll send over the whole PR box and I'm like, here, now your child with this body wash can smell like teakwood and tobacco. I don't know.

• 44:54Drew Afualo?

  Enjoy.

• 44:54Speaker 01

Yeah, literally. But on the hate comment train as well, like. I feel like, like people, the, besides being gay.

• 45:04Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 45:04Speaker 01

It's like, overconsumption, final boss. And I'm like, fork found in kitchen.

• 45:08Drew Afualo?

Right. Well, you're also a collector.

• 45:11Speaker 01

And I'm squeezing joy out of this life, like.

• 45:14Drew Afualo?

  My bad.

• 45:15Speaker 01

My bad. Like, I don't know. And like, yeah, I totally see it. I know that I am like capitalist, like, final boss. Like, I buy stuff all the time.

• 45:23Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 45:23Speaker 01

But, I don't know, like, I, I, it's worth it to me to like.

• 45:27Drew Afualo?

Well, that's also, again, like, we, we circle back to, like, critical thinking, right? So it's like, is this black and white mentality helpful?

• 45:35Speaker 01

  Right.

• 45:35Drew Afualo?

Is it a solution? Or is it just to bitch and moan and get a viral mean comment?

• 45:39Speaker 01

  Right.

• 45:39Drew Afualo?

Like, that's really what I think a lot of times about shit like that, because it's like, you're nitpicking people for no reason. Um, especially, you're a collector.

• 45:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:46Drew Afualo?

That's different. Like, that's very different from buying shit and throwing it out.

• 45:50Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 45:50Drew Afualo?

Like, buying shit, throwing it out, buying shit, throwing it out. Like, even with all of the shit that I get too, like, I give away ninety percent of it. Because I just don't need that much stuff, ever. But also, um, when it's like, to a point where no one in my personal life needs it or wants it, I donate it to women's shelters, to boys and girls clubs, like, there are lots of ways.

• 46:10Speaker 01

And take note of those, because you don't always have to give to Goodwill.

• 46:12Drew Afualo?

Exactly. And that's like, and that's where a lot of times I'll, I'll drop off beauty products, especially feminine products, like, anything like that. This is a side note, but I have an entire drawer of like, probably about thirty vibrators. And I, that's just my truth. That's just my truth. And believe it or not, no one wants to take those. Every time they come over to the house, I'm like, who needs a vibrator? Anyone need one? Let's get into it. It's their gender list. Do whatever you gotta do. I really don't care. Just get it out of my home. Like, I literally look like a sexual deviant. That's just like the.

• 46:42Speaker 01

  The drawer.

• 46:42Drew Afualo?

  That's just.

• 46:43Speaker 01

There's like a piece of scotch tape on it.

• 46:44Drew Afualo?

And literally, Carrie's laughing because she's been in my office and she made said drawer full of vibrators. She was like, okay, so all the vibrators are in this drawer. Thanks. Girl, appreciate you. And sometimes when I, when I have guests come over, I'll make little like baskets for them or whatever.

• 46:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:59Drew Afualo?

And so like, I made one for my girlfriend and I put a vibrator in there. And like, and I put a bunch of other shit too. It wasn't just creepy weird shit like that. I put other shit in there too. And then later, like, I want to say a year later, she was like, and I wore that thing out, bitch.

• 47:15Drew Afualo?

I'm so glad it brought you joy.

• 47:16Speaker 01

  Right.

• 47:16Drew Afualo?

  I'm so glad.

• 47:17Speaker 01

But you know what, like on the topic of giving things away even, like, I, just because I'm not like posting. Come with me to donate to like.

• 47:25Drew Afualo?

  Exactly.

• 47:25Speaker 01

I'm not doing it for that.

• 47:27Drew Afualo?

  Exactly.

• 47:27Speaker 01

I'm doing it because I just want to give it to somebody else. Or like when the fires happen, like I live in San Gabriel Valley. So like, I was literally like, could see the eaten fire from my living room window. Like it's close. So like you, there's always stuff going on where like there's people who need stuff way more than I do.

• 47:42Drew Afualo?

  Absolutely.

• 47:43Speaker 01

Um, so I feel like that's important.

• 47:44Drew Afualo?

Well, yeah, and it is. And it's also again, it's like, again, critical thinking. Like it's so void, especially on the internet now. Like no one's ever thinking, oh, maybe they do this, or maybe they do that. It's always just like, I'm going to write something mean. Like that's just like the first thing they think of. And initially when you were bringing up like, kind of like, uh, kind of weird but draggy comments.

• 48:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:04Drew Afualo?

Those are the only ones I've said for years, like, and they come from people who love me, like, who love me and, and love my content and think I'm awesome.

• 48:11Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 48:12Drew Afualo?

No bad intention, no bad will. I just put one in my close friends the other day that I was like, okay. No, perfect. Because I did a deal with Jim Shark recently. Love them. Love their show. Period. Thank you.

• 48:26Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 48:26Drew Afualo?

And so like, I had to put it in my story too. That was part of my deal. So I like did that. And I had a lot of people be like, oh my God, I love it. It looks so great. You look awesome, whatever. Very nice. This one girl sent me a DM where she literally said, uh, honestly, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to read it. I'm going to read it because everyone deserves to hear the shit that I get on like a daily fucking basis. And it's meant to be a compliment. Okay. Here's what it says. I just have to say, I'm so freaking proud of you. I know you're a strong ass bitch, but you have a real body and I fucking needed that. I'm so tired of chasing unattainable perfection. Your body is perfect, but real. Thank you.

• 49:10Drew Afualo?

Right. So I put that in my close friends and I put, right, no, perfect.

• 49:15Speaker 01

  Right.

• 49:16Drew Afualo?

Right. And even Anna Naya messaged me, she goes, oh, I was so close to a compliment. It was, it was right there. It was right, you're dancing on that line.

• 49:23Speaker 01

You, you got almost to the point.

• 49:25Drew Afualo?

And it's like, God, you know what? I'm so sick of seeing the Margot Robbie's. I want to see a big fatty on my screen. That's what I need. I need a real body, not a good one, a real one.

• 49:36Speaker 01

It's such an interesting point, like, like they care about me and they love me and then I'm like, ooh.

• 49:41Drew Afualo?

Yeah. And then I'm like, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right. That is something I have to swallow.

• 49:46Speaker 01

  It almost not a lot.

• 49:47Drew Afualo?

Yeah. That's why I was like, I know you thought that that would change my day. It did, just probably not in the way that you thought.

• 49:56Drew Afualo?

And I literally had so many of my friends message me and be like, damn, so close.

• 50:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:01Drew Afualo?

Oh, she was right there. Like to get, and that's where I think like, that's where I say all the time, like, men can never, they're not smart enough or clever enough to ever really truly insult me.

• 50:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 50:13Drew Afualo?

And especially not when women are moving like that with me. That's someone who loves me.

• 50:16Speaker 01

  Right.

• 50:17Drew Afualo?

That's someone who actually loves me.

• 50:19Speaker 01

Like you should see the things that people are a fan of me saying.

• 50:21Drew Afualo?

Like you have like, you have no idea just how crazy they can get. But now that we've gone through your history, your lore, we do have some fun facts about you. Are you ready?

• 50:32Speaker 01

  I think I'm ready.

• 50:32Drew Afualo?

And Amanda texted me an extra one too. We'll get there. Okay. This one I actually did know, but you used to work at In-N-Out Burger.

• 50:39Speaker 01

  I sure did.

• 50:39Drew Afualo?

  As a level seven associate.

• 50:41Speaker 01

  I sure did.

• 50:44Drew Afualo?

  There's levels in In-N-Out?

• 50:45Speaker 01

There sure are, yeah. Um, I worked there for like five and a half years.

• 50:50Drew Afualo?

  T.

• 50:50Speaker 01

Um, from right before senior year of high school through graduating college.

• 50:54Drew Afualo?

  Damn.

• 50:55Speaker 01

And I loved it so much. I literally tell people all the time, I miss it today.

• 50:59Drew Afualo?

  Really?

• 50:59Speaker 01

Yep. And I don't know, it's like a combination of like I left and I was so devastated because I loved it so much. But I think it was a lot of the the people like I made some amazing friends working there.

• 51:09Drew Afualo?

  Oh, that's so nice.

• 51:11Speaker 01

I don't think that I could just like walk into like the one down the street and like have an amazing time working there because I wouldn't know anybody. So like it's a combination, but it was so fun.

• 51:20Drew Afualo?

Did you have that giant paper clip?

• 51:22Speaker 01

Absolutely, I still I still have it.

• 51:23Drew Afualo?

  You still have it?

• 51:24Speaker 01

I have multiple. I kept everything. Listen, I was like, I'm taking an apron.

• 51:29Speaker 01

Uh, it was awesome. There's there's seven levels. Each of them comes with like different training and things that you have to learn to do as you go up. Level seven is just like you are able to do everything under the roof. Like you can take the orders, you can make the food, you can run the shift.

• 51:44Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 51:45Speaker 01

The most like notable change for a seven from six, because six is a cook, is that you start like running the shifts and like helping the manager. So I was essentially like an assistant manager.

• 51:54Drew Afualo?

  Look at you.

• 51:55Speaker 01

Yeah, and you know what? I left and there are rules in and out about appearance.

• 52:00Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 52:00Speaker 01

Because your appearance is part of your uniform, your smile is part of your uniform, they say that. Uh, so yeah, like, um, they want that to be like part of the whole picture. And things have changed now, like I have friends that still work there that like you can have tattoos and wear long sleeves.

• 52:18Drew Afualo?

  Oh, yeah.

• 52:19Speaker 01

But like when I worked there, like I don't think guys could have their ears pierced. No unnatural hair colors for anybody.

• 52:26Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 52:26Speaker 01

Um, guys had to be clean shaven.

• 52:28Drew Afualo?

  Interesting.

• 52:29Speaker 01

So like I posted a picture actually like kind of recently, like a throwback, because like In-N-Out came up somewhere in a comment or something. And like people were like, I don't even recognize you because I had a baby face because like no facial hair. So I quit, I got my nose pierced, I got a hand tattoo and I grew up my facial hair. Because I was like, I I I had to make it so I couldn't go back because I loved it so much.

• 52:47Drew Afualo?

  Oh.

• 52:48Speaker 01

And like they want lifers there, like I was seventeen and the guy was like, how long do you want to work here? I was like, well, going to college, so like maybe like a year. He's like, I want to hear ten. And I'm like, I like, I have to go. I think I'm okay. But like truly, and the time flew like five years and I could have been there forever because you just get stuck. And I know that sounds negative, but like I was nineteen in college and I was training for my level seven because I got it like two and a half years into working there.

• 53:13Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 53:13Speaker 01

And I went pretty quick and the store manager, uh, pulled me into the office and like calculator. Like, this is what you could be making. And I'm like, hey, so like, I'm a student.

• 53:24Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 53:25Speaker 01

And he's like, how much do you care about like going to school for that? I'm like, bro, you are literally trying to like get me to quit college and work at.

• 53:32Drew Afualo?

  To work at In-N-Out forever?

• 53:33Speaker 01

  Right now.

• 53:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 53:34Speaker 01

  At nineteen, okay. Like, I'm.

• 53:36Drew Afualo?

  That's so crazy.

• 53:38Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, it was a lot of money.

• 53:39Drew Afualo?

I had that experience too, when I worked in a restaurant for a fucking spell. I only worked there for like three-ish months. But it was the same kind of deal where they were like, he literally was like, well, if you want to be taken seriously in the restaurant industry. Who the fuck said that?

• 53:54Speaker 01

  Hey, so like, I'm seventeen.

• 53:56Drew Afualo?

Hey, so who started that rumor about me that I wanted to do that? I don't want to fucking do that. Like, I was like, what are you talking about? Take this seriously?

• 54:03Speaker 01

If I could go back for just like one day, just to like have fun and cook again or something?

• 54:07Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 54:07Speaker 01

  So fun. Let me cook.

• 54:09Drew Afualo?

Let me cook, literally. Yeah, for real, you're like, well, you know, if you're ever in there and a cook goes down, you're like, now I'm ready.

• 54:16Speaker 01

Is there a doctor here? Is there a previous?

• 54:19Drew Afualo?

Is there a level seven associate here from In-N-Out Burger? Is there one in the house, please?

• 54:25Speaker 01

  Literally.

• 54:26Drew Afualo?

  That is so funny.

• 54:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:27Drew Afualo?

I think that's amazing. Did you have any crazy experiences working there, like with customers?

• 54:31Speaker 01

Um, yeah, some like, some just crazy like regulars that would just order the most absurd things.

• 54:38Speaker 01

Oh, gosh, what was it? Uh, I think you were talking with Sarah about a coffee shop story. I'm like, tell you, I watched.

• 54:46Drew Afualo?

Oh, yeah, no, you watch, girl.

• 54:47Speaker 01

And also, you have all the best people on there. These are all my, like, my mutuals, and like, it's great.

• 54:52Drew Afualo?

  Sriracha?

• 54:53Speaker 01

  Sriracha.

• 54:53Drew Afualo?

Love her, yeah, she's a barista.

• 54:55Speaker 01

Yeah, and so she was talking about this, the lady who like stuck her whole hand in the coffee.

• 54:59Drew Afualo?

In a scalding hot, yeah, she's like, and look, third degree burns.

• 55:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:03Drew Afualo?

  And look at.

• 55:04Speaker 01

I'll never forget the, um, I was working in the drive-through window and this lady over the speaker was like, I'd like to get an iced tea. And I was like, okay, no worries. I just brewed it though. So it's like, like really hot.

• 55:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:17Speaker 01

How about I just like, give you the cup with the, the drink and I'll give you the ice on the side. So it can like cool off.

• 55:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:23Speaker 01

And she was like, oh, no, no, no, I don't want ice. I'm like, okay. So you did say iced tea.

• 55:27Drew Afualo?

Okay, perfect. I just wanted to make sure. No, perfect.

• 55:29Speaker 01

And she's like, no, I want it to be hot. And I'm like, so what if I hadn't just brewed it? Like, what if it was cold? Room temp, maybe? Like, I don't know what to tell you.

• 55:37Drew Afualo?

  When you say iced tea.

• 55:39Speaker 01

  Correct.

• 55:39Drew Afualo?

What, what's your definition of that?

• 55:41Speaker 01

Yeah. Doesn't want any ice. So I'm like, okay, like this lady is not listening. Like she, this like, it hurts to touch the container it's in because it is so hot.

• 55:50Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:50Speaker 01

  I just brewed it.

• 55:51Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:52Speaker 01

So I poured it into the cup and I'm like, she doesn't know what she's talking about. And I put like four ice cubes in it that fully melt like on the spot.

• 55:58Drew Afualo?

Yeah. Like immediately because it's scalding.

• 56:00Speaker 01

So she gets the window, I take her money, I give her the thing. She takes a sip of the drink and she goes, was there ice in this? And I go.

• 56:07Drew Afualo?

  No.

• 56:08Speaker 01

I'm like literally clutching my pearls like.

• 56:11Drew Afualo?

What are you, a drunk dog?

• 56:12Speaker 01

I didn't want to lie. I was like, I, I put like three and she goes.

• 56:18Drew Afualo?

Blake, you're so nice. I would have been like, nope.

• 56:20Speaker 01

I didn't, I didn't want ice. And I go, I'll get you a new one. Like fully, here's your hot tea. In the In-N-Out.

• 56:27Drew Afualo?

Yeah. There's still like steam coming up.

• 56:29Speaker 01

  John 316, by the way.

• 56:32Drew Afualo?

Right. Read the bottom of that fry container.

• 56:33Speaker 01

Yeah. So people were just so interesting. We had a regular that came in every single day. Got this like absurd order.

• 56:40Speaker 01

Not, not, not, not a funny story, but um, I got a complaint one time from a customer. That was at our store. It was kind of late. Like I would work late night a lot and we call it two man jam where you're like, there's only a couple of people working in the kitchen.

• 56:55Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 56:55Speaker 01

And so it was like pretty, pretty, uh, pretty busy for a couple of people working. And I had had friends that were working with me and stuff. And so I was, having fun. Cause like I'm, I'm with my friends. We have to make the best of it. No one's helping us. We just got to get through all the, all the orders.

• 57:08Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 57:09Speaker 01

So having a good time or whatever. We get a complaint later. And um my manager like calls me into the office and he like reads it to me and I'm telling you like I see on the computer screen. This complaint is like this long, like tiny text.

• 57:20Drew Afualo?

  Damn.

• 57:21Speaker 01

  Like a, like an essay.

• 57:22Drew Afualo?

  Like a essay, yeah, like.

• 57:23Speaker 01

And this person essentially is like, I don't want a gay person making my food. And is like, like insane, like he, he says, this person, like he, I did, no one told me that he was gay, but I know one when I see one. And says, he does, he's gonna get AIDS from his burger, like insane, I'm, I'm not even joking, also I stood in the office and I just burst into tears because I was so embarrassed.

• 57:47Drew Afualo?

  Well, yeah.

• 57:48Speaker 01

And my manager's also like, I'm not showing you this because you're in trouble, I'm like, nothing, I'm just showing you this because I'm like, this is a little scary.

• 57:55Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 57:55Speaker 01

And like, I, I got like walked into my car that night, like crazy.

• 57:59Drew Afualo?

  Oh my god.

• 58:00Speaker 01

I'd never experienced anything like that before.

• 58:02Drew Afualo?

Also like, what do you mean you could tell?

• 58:05Speaker 01

  Are you an idiot?

• 58:05Drew Afualo?

Also, what do you mean you could tell?

• 58:08Speaker 01

Right, because I'm like, I wasn't doing like death drops in the kitchen, like, are you joking?

• 58:12Drew Afualo?

  You're like.

• 58:12Speaker 01

  Like, what is happening?

• 58:14Drew Afualo?

You're vogueing, well. Yeah, I was like, oh, oh, me experiencing joy somehow told you that I was gay?

• 58:20Speaker 01

Sorry that the way I cut onions was like, a little.

• 58:24Drew Afualo?

Well, that's what I'm saying, even a broken clock is right two times a day.

• 58:27Speaker 01

  Right.

• 58:28Drew Afualo?

So you just threw some shit at me and like you just so happened to be right.

• 58:32Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 58:32Drew Afualo?

  Unless, of course, he's gay.

• 58:34Speaker 01

Heard me laughing or whatever, like, I don't know.

• 58:36Drew Afualo?

That's why I said experiencing joy just generally tells you what, like, that's why I was like, right, right, yeah.

• 58:43Speaker 01

Um, so yeah, that was like crazy, but just like, there's like lots of stories. Can you believe that?

• 58:47Drew Afualo?

  No, that's fucking nuts.

• 58:49Speaker 01

Well, I make the best burgers here, so bummer.

• 58:51Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 58:52Speaker 01

  And, and the person.

• 58:52Drew Afualo?

Don't wanna catch whatever I'm putting in these awesome burgers.

• 58:55Speaker 01

Also an over the phone complaint, so he like set this per, this whole thing was dictated. And the customer service person, like, obviously, they're like, not really sure how to handle that, but they were like, well, like, we don't, like, there's no discrimination based on blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

• 59:10Drew Afualo?

Right, like they're saying all the like HR proper things.

• 59:14Speaker 01

And then like, of course, my, my store manager was like mad that my manager showed me and then all stuff and I'm like. And then I was upset.

• 59:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:20Speaker 01

And I didn't want to come to work for a couple of days because it was just like tarnishing like that's like my happy place like I was like I love it here.

• 59:25Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:25Speaker 01

And yeah, I was crazy, but um lots of lots of stories.

• 59:29Drew Afualo?

  That's crazy.

• 59:29Speaker 01

Nothing like that ever happened again.

• 59:31Drew Afualo?

  Thank God.

• 59:32Speaker 01

It like blew over or whatever, but yeah, kind of kind of wild.

• 59:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, let's circle back to earlier when I was saying that straight men fucking complain about me going like, oh, poopy poopy poo poo, I hate men. And then they're on here going, wow, so hard to love myself. Meanwhile, that's what the fuck minority people are going through.

• 59:50Speaker 01

  Right.

• 59:50Drew Afualo?

In real life, like in real fucking life, bitch, like before the internet.

• 59:53Speaker 01

And I guess what, I had to go back and keep making burgers.

• 59:56Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, like hello.

• 59:57Speaker 01

  That shift.

• 59:57Drew Afualo?

Yeah, exactly. And also you have to go back into that work environment and everybody knows and it's like a whole other thing.

• 1:00:03Speaker 01

  Here car.

• 1:00:05Drew Afualo?

  Girl.

• 1:00:06Speaker 01

I'm a grown man too, like.

• 1:00:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:07Speaker 01

Because I have so much privilege in that, like I I don't have to worry about going and walking.

• 1:00:11Drew Afualo?

Like walking alone at night. Yeah, exactly.

• 1:00:14Speaker 01

  So that's kind of wild.

• 1:00:15Drew Afualo?

  No, that is fucking insane.

• 1:00:16Speaker 01

But it had nothing to do with the company, obviously, like I say all the time, I miss it, like I love it.

• 1:00:20Drew Afualo?

Service like it's like just, it's one of those things I've talked a lot about that specifically because that's one of the few like uh service jobs I had with food service and I literally was like, that is one of the hardest jobs ever.

• 1:00:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:34Drew Afualo?

And you work fast food, which is even harder. And I was like, I was, they're both like apples and oranges, different kinds of hard, but I just like think I've said before, like sometimes I really did think as a server that like people went out with the explicit intention of being fucked up to servers.

• 1:00:48Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:00:48Drew Afualo?

Like they go out to torture people because they have, I don't know, a fucking problem, like they literally go out to be difficult, to be annoying, to be rude and disrespectful and sometimes attack people like it's really insane.

• 1:01:00Speaker 01

  It's crazy.

• 1:01:00Drew Afualo?

It's like, actually, I'm like, food service people are frontline soldiers.

• 1:01:04Speaker 01

Heroes wear capes, but they do wear red aprons.

• 1:01:06Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and giant safety pins. Exactly.

• 1:01:10Speaker 01

And Disneyland name tags. Because we have the same, that's a fun fact. They do the same shape as Disneyland.

• 1:01:16Drew Afualo?

  Oh, that's so tea.

• 1:01:17Speaker 01

And I remember, if I remember correctly, it's because In-N-Out wanted to like mirror the customer service off of somewhere so great.

• 1:01:23Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 1:01:24Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 1:01:25Drew Afualo?

And also Disney workers, even Maggie was telling me too, because she worked at Disney World for a minute.

• 1:01:30Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:01:31Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and even she was saying like, that was one of the scariest and hardest jobs I've ever had, but also really fun.

• 1:01:36Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:01:37Drew Afualo?

  So she's like, I had a blast.

• 1:01:38Speaker 01

There are a lot of creators who have like a cast member to create a pipeline.

• 1:01:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:43Speaker 01

A lot of my friends were cast members before they were like Disney influencers, if you want to call it that.

• 1:01:47Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:01:48Speaker 01

And I am not one of them. I never worked for the company.

• 1:01:50Drew Afualo?

  That's crazy.

• 1:01:51Speaker 01

  Just work with.

• 1:01:52Drew Afualo?

Now, now you work with them, alongside them, it's even better.

• 1:01:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:01:56Drew Afualo?

Okay, and then next one, next fun fact, says you used to be a graphic designer for Pressuchery.

• 1:02:01Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 1:02:02Drew Afualo?

  Very fun.

• 1:02:02Speaker 01

  I'm impressed with the lore.

• 1:02:03Drew Afualo?

Yeah. And says, in college, you photographed the San Luis Obispo cow parade?

• 1:02:13Speaker 00

• 1:02:48Drew Afualo?

You taking pictures of cows? Take a picture of this one, just kidding.

• 1:02:52Speaker 01

Wait, oh my gosh. I'm like, did I, like, I forgot about, okay, so San Luis, Cal Poly is like very agriculture.

• 1:03:00Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:00Speaker 01

So like, Cal Poly is a super engineering school, but also agriculture.

• 1:03:03Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:04Speaker 01

So there was this thing, oh my god, this is like crazy.

• 1:03:07Drew Afualo?

Cow parade? You've piqued my interest.

• 1:03:10Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:03:11Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:11Speaker 01

So, I don't... If I remember correctly, I don't remember there being like a a procession of sorts, but there were, there was a, a season where people would hand paint these like statue cows. Oh my God, this is crazy. Um, and they would put them all over town, on campus and all over town. So you could like go around, wow.

• 1:03:35Drew Afualo?

  Take pictures of that?

• 1:03:36Speaker 01

Yeah, and it was like a thing. You would like go find all the cows and they were like life sized statues of cows.

• 1:03:42Drew Afualo?

Was it the same people every year? Was it different?

• 1:03:44Speaker 01

No, I think it was different. Um, I think I had a friend who got to contribute to one. She was like an art student.

• 1:03:48Drew Afualo?

  Oh, fun.

• 1:03:49Speaker 01

But yeah, they would like be on campus and then like downtown.

• 1:03:52Drew Afualo?

That feels like one of those things where you're like, you never know what people are doing.

• 1:03:54Speaker 01

  You really never know.

• 1:03:55Drew Afualo?

You never know what people are doing behind closed doors.

• 1:03:56Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 1:03:57Drew Afualo?

And some of them are painting cows and some of them are photographing.

• 1:03:59Speaker 01

And some of them are photographing in, in public.

• 1:04:03Drew Afualo?

Oh my gosh, I love that. I love that you were like, no, this I have to document.

• 1:04:08Speaker 01

Yeah, absolutely. I could probably find a picture somewhere.

• 1:04:11Drew Afualo?

Okay, this one says, this is your junior year, yearbook photo.

• 1:04:16Speaker 01

  Oh God.

• 1:04:16Drew Afualo?

Can he break down this outfit and was this a sleeveless vest?

• 1:04:21Speaker 01

  Oh, Jesus Christ.

• 1:04:25Drew Afualo?

I don't know if you can see, like, I don't know.

• 1:04:28Speaker 01

That's not even my year, like, it is my yearbook photo. That's my ID card. This is so insane. Um, you know what? Wait, let me see it again. Okay, this was like in my era. I was like trying to grow my hair closer to God.

• 1:04:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:41Speaker 01

  Um, sleeveless vest, for sure.

• 1:04:44Drew Afualo?

Low key, yeah, it looks like it.

• 1:04:46Speaker 01

Wore it more than once a week.

• 1:04:47Drew Afualo?

It looks like a matching shirt too.

• 1:04:49Speaker 01

Yeah, you know, coordinated. Closeted. Coordinated and closeted.

• 1:04:56Speaker 01

Wait, that's crazy. Yeah, I went to a really, um, like known to be nerdy high school. We had no sports.

• 1:05:04Drew Afualo?

  Oh, really?

• 1:05:04Speaker 01

So when I say I played soccer, like we had to go, um, I think this is like how it is for everybody ever, but you have like a boundary school, like the one that's like closest to where you live or whatever in your school district. So my boundary school was Ventura High School. I lived in Ventura. But I went to Foothill.

• 1:05:20Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 1:05:20Speaker 01

And Foothill had no sports, so I had to go play sports at Ventura. So like, we had seven periods. And if you played sports, you didn't have a seventh period and they would like shuttle us on a bus over to the school for soccer practice.

• 1:05:30Drew Afualo?

  Interesting.

• 1:05:30Speaker 01

So, um, that has nothing to do with the fact that I was dressed like a dweeb, but, um, I don't even know what year that was.

• 1:05:36Drew Afualo?

You know what's funny is this your junior year? It says your junior year.

• 1:05:39Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:05:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, grade 11.

• 1:05:40Speaker 01

  2013.

• 1:05:41Drew Afualo?

According to your ID card, it says it was grade 11.

• 1:05:43Speaker 01

According to your ID card that actually has your ID number on it.

• 1:05:45Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it does. In fact, it's in full view.

• 1:05:48Speaker 01

Five zero, wait, I think I remember it.

• 1:05:50Drew Afualo?

  What, what?

• 1:05:51Speaker 01

  The ID number.

• 1:05:52Drew Afualo?

  Oh, you do?

• 1:05:53Speaker 01

  Five zero one.

• 1:05:54Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 1:05:54Speaker 01

  Eight oh eight.

• 1:05:55Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:55Speaker 01

  Seven eight four.

• 1:06:00Drew Afualo?

  What's your sign?

• 1:06:01Speaker 01

  Uh, I'm an Aquarius.

• 1:06:02Drew Afualo?

  Okay, okay, you're an Aquarius.

• 1:06:03Speaker 01

Saw you at your show, it was like three days after my birthday.

• 1:06:06Drew Afualo?

Oh, yes, that's right. Okay, yeah.

• 1:06:08Speaker 01

  Freshly thirty.

• 1:06:09Drew Afualo?

  Oh, t. Okay, I was.

• 1:06:11Speaker 01

Aquarius. I don't know like much about my stuff, but.

• 1:06:15Drew Afualo?

I was curious if you have Virgo anywhere in you. Earth sign, Taurus, right?

• 1:06:19Speaker 01

  And Cancer rising.

• 1:06:21Drew Afualo?

Oh, t. I'm a Virgo sun, Cancer moon, Sagittarius rising.

• 1:06:26Speaker 01

  And Matt's a Cancer.

• 1:06:27Drew Afualo?

Oh, t. Okay, do you know his big three?

• 1:06:29Speaker 01

I actually don't. I don't know if he does too. He like had like some drama recently where he like couldn't figure out his birth time.

• 1:06:36Drew Afualo?

Sometimes if you just guess like general time, it can get pretty specific.

• 1:06:40Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:06:41Drew Afualo?

If you know like morning, afternoon, night.

• 1:06:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:06:43Drew Afualo?

That might make it a little bit easier.

• 1:06:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:44Drew Afualo?

What I was gonna say though is your ID photo, that's so funny. Like, my freshman year of high school, for some reason, they would do these like freshman orientations things, like during summer where you go and get your schedule ahead of time.

• 1:06:54Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:06:55Drew Afualo?

I think because you're a kid. And so like, you could only do it as a freshman though. And I think you could come pick up your schedule at, in any other grade, but like, they had this whole day planned out for freshmen. So I remember my sister had told me about it already. I was like, okay, cool. Went, they like separated us into groups to like, and they wanted you to do icebreakers, all this stuff. And then they wanted the groups they separated us in.

• 1:07:16Speaker 01

  The worst, by the way.

• 1:07:17Drew Afualo?

Yes. Oh, my god. Fucking terrible. Like, even in college, no better. Like, they get worse when you get older.

• 1:07:22Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 1:07:23Drew Afualo?

So like, when I, when I was in my group. They wanted each person to like, or each group to be themed or something and they, they gave us like, they're like, oh, and then you're gonna see if you can cheer the loudest. It's like ASB shit.

• 1:07:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:36Drew Afualo?

Right? They're just trying to get you to participate.

• 1:07:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:38Drew Afualo?

But there was probably like twenty, twenty-two of us in each per group. So of course, like being the know-it-all and the Virgo I am, I'm like, I'm gonna take charge. So I was like helping designate things to people. And they gave us like spray hair stuff and like glitter and all that.

• 1:07:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:55Drew Afualo?

And like little things to like dress your team up, whatever the fuck. And I remember I was like, oh yeah, like, do you guys wanna use this hair stuff? Like, cause there were some people with really long hair and they were like, yeah, fuck it. So I was like putting all this like spraying color like in people's hair. And I'm like, woo! And then they asked me, do you wanna do it on your hair? And I was like, oh, no, no, no. No, no, no.

• 1:08:14Speaker 01

  Oh, that's for them.

• 1:08:15Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was like, I don't, no, I don't want that on my hair.

• 1:08:17Speaker 01

  I'm actually the leader.

• 1:08:17Drew Afualo?

No, yeah, I'm in charge, so I'm the sprayer, not the spraye. And so like, I was like, no, I'm good, I'm good. And then we went to the, did the assembly thing. And then I did not know this.

• 1:08:26Speaker 01

No, photos were not that day.

• 1:08:27Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like literally they took freshman year photos that day, right after that assembly. And they were like, a lot of the people in my group were like, can I go wash this out? And they were like, no, we have to go take it now. I was like, I did feel bad.

• 1:08:42Speaker 01

By the way, those are your haters now.

• 1:08:44Drew Afualo?

Yeah, for real, I'm like, men dead as against me. No, for real. And I do remember though, in order to participate, I did, they had like a little choker.

• 1:08:52Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:08:53Drew Afualo?

And it was a Jonas Brother choker. I remember this so distinctly. And I was fresh off my Jonas Brother phase. And I was like, well, obviously I'll wear the Jonas Brother choker.

• 1:09:00Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:09:01Drew Afualo?

So I was like, I wore that, forgot to take it off. So I do in fact have a Jonas Brother choker on in my ninth grade photo.

• 1:09:08Speaker 01

  Iconic.

• 1:09:08Drew Afualo?

So that is my karma. Like, so some people had like, you know, green raccoon stripes in their hair. And some of us were wearing a Jonas Brother choker.

• 1:09:16Speaker 01

And maybe you got lucky and the yearbook was in black and white.

• 1:09:19Drew Afualo?

And I was like, mine was in full color and it was a bright red stripe and it was all. But you know, I was like, even when I saw it, I was like, wow, I look gorgeous in that. I look beautiful.

• 1:09:29Speaker 01

And I didn't have stuff in my hair.

• 1:09:30Drew Afualo?

And I remember my mom asking me, what are you wearing on your neck? I was like, oh, they made me put this choker on and I forgot to take it off. But it's okay, because the, I'm like, my face card is clearing, so it's fine. No worries, mom.

• 1:09:40Speaker 01

  Cleared.

• 1:09:41Drew Afualo?

Don't worry about it. Okay, last fun fact.

• 1:09:43Speaker 01

  Okay, I'm scared.

• 1:09:44Drew Afualo?

He, she said, you posted this on October 31st, 2012. Do you remember what this Halloween costume was supposed to be? And I'll open the pic now.

• 1:09:57Drew Afualo?

  You going, um?

• 1:09:59Speaker 01

Okay, that is a photo at my church.

• 1:10:03Speaker 01

We did, oh, god, I think that was.

• 1:10:06Drew Afualo?

You're giving Book of Mormon in this.

• 1:10:08Speaker 01

So we did, uh, I performed with a lip sync group. We like prepared a lip sync to Officer Krupke.

• 1:10:16Drew Afualo?

  Okay, from West Side Story.

• 1:10:17Speaker 01

Yes. And that's what I was dressed as.

• 1:10:22Speaker 01

So it was just like. Wade, that's crazy. Okay.

• 1:10:26Drew Afualo?

  You're giving Peaky Blinders.

• 1:10:27Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:10:28Drew Afualo?

  Honestly, Blake, handsome.

• 1:10:30Speaker 01

  Thank you so much. Babyface.

• 1:10:33Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was gonna say, obviously, obviously, you're so handsome now, but I'm saying you've been a looker. Your whole life, look at you. No wonder they were being homophobic. They couldn't have you.

• 1:10:42Speaker 01

Listen, and also closeted, and I have, like, my art teacher from high school, I remember. We're like friends now, which is so cool. He was pretty young, too, when, when I was in high school, but he, I was talking to him one day after, uh, after I had graduated, like, two years after. I was with another student who also is queer, and, um, they were like, like, Justin, did you ever, like, have an inkling that, like, myself or Blake, like, were queer? And he was like, you, not so much, to them. And I was like, Blake, mm, I kinda had a feeling. And I was like, wait, why? And he was like, because girls would just, like, throw themselves at you and you, like, didn't care.

• 1:11:23Drew Afualo?

And you were like, and that's my sister.

• 1:11:25Speaker 01

And I was like, I'm a Christian, like.

• 1:11:30Drew Afualo?

Well, that was my faith, obviously.

• 1:11:31Speaker 01

  That's so funny. But, yeah.

• 1:11:34Drew Afualo?

No, that makes a lot of sense, because you're tall, too. Tall and handsome, tall, dark and handsome.

• 1:11:38Speaker 01

Listen, I'm not saying that about myself, but I'll take it.

• 1:11:40Drew Afualo?

It's true. That's why I was like, yeah, he was like, I kinda had a feeling, because you're drowning in puss and you didn't want it.

• 1:11:48Speaker 01

  He's like, you didn't bite.

• 1:11:49Drew Afualo?

And you're, and that's my best friend. I love her.

• 1:11:54Speaker 01

I'm like, no, she has great style.

• 1:11:56Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was like, no, I love her. She's the best. Oh, my God. Well, I fucking love you.

• 1:12:01Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:12:01Drew Afualo?

Thank you for coming and hanging out with me today.

• 1:12:03Speaker 01

Of course, wait, I do have something.

• 1:12:05Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:12:05Speaker 01

So, off camera, you gave me a gift today.

• 1:12:08Drew Afualo?

  I did.

• 1:12:08Speaker 01

And it's these really cool pins. I don't know if I show them, would I be able to see them at all?

• 1:12:12Drew Afualo?

  Oh, probably.

• 1:12:13Speaker 01

I could just like, hold them up.

• 1:12:14Drew Afualo?

Oh, yeah, or you could take them out of the thing if you want.

• 1:12:16Speaker 01

Zoom here. But these are really cool. They are VIP Tour exclusive pins.

• 1:12:20Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:12:21Speaker 01

  From Disney.

• 1:12:22Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:12:23Speaker 01

And I do not have these, so thank you so much.

• 1:12:25Drew Afualo?

  You're welcome.

• 1:12:26Speaker 01

But we, obviously, like, I love to talk about all the things unrelated to the things that everybody sees me talk about daily. So this has been amazing. But I did bring you a mystery pin.

• 1:12:38Speaker 01

And I love my mystery pins, and I also love my Winnie the Pooh.

• 1:12:42Drew Afualo?

  Yes, you do.

• 1:12:43Speaker 01

And so I brought, it's not from Disneyland, but it is an official Disney Winnie the Pooh mystery pin.

• 1:12:47Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my God, how exciting.

• 1:12:49Speaker 01

And I brought two, so that we can open them together.

• 1:12:50Drew Afualo?

  Yes, okay.

• 1:12:52Speaker 01

And we can like, manifest having a Disney day or something.

• 1:12:54Drew Afualo?

Love, yes, of course, we can.

• 1:12:56Speaker 01

So there's some really cute options in here.

• 1:12:58Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:12:59Speaker 01

And I did also bring you and Jason Mickey family keychains when I came to your show.

• 1:13:05Drew Afualo?

Oh, my God, yes, you did.

• 1:13:06Speaker 01

So not to be like, annoying, like, I always come with some, like, mystery box, but...

• 1:13:09Drew Afualo?

No, he's so sweet. He's always bringing gifts and leaving them at my altar, like you guys.

• 1:13:13Speaker 01

  Listen.

• 1:13:14Drew Afualo?

At least these ones are nice ones, and they're not terrible men I have to yell at. Oh, my God. Okay, wait, should we, which ones?

• 1:13:20Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, so you have to say what you would want. I mean, I don't have any of these yet, so like, I would love any of them, but...

• 1:13:25Drew Afualo?

Right, and you always say first pin is the one we don't have.

• 1:13:27Speaker 01

Correct. I always favor Pooh Bear, but these ones are cool, because on the back, they have like, really special ones, so like, those ones are like, all in black and white. They're like, more rare. There's like, a gold one. But yeah, these are all really cute. I love Pooh Bear with the trumpet.

• 1:13:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I think they're all so cute, obviously. I was a big Piglet girl.

• 1:13:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:46Drew Afualo?

That was my, that was my thing, because a pig is my favorite animal, and pink was my favorite color.

• 1:13:50Speaker 01

  Okay, yeah.

• 1:13:51Drew Afualo?

So I was always a Piglet girl, but I'll take, honestly, they're all killer.

• 1:13:55Speaker 01

As long as we get different ones.

• 1:13:57Drew Afualo?

Love them all, yeah. Okay, tea, let's open them.

• 1:13:59Speaker 01

  You go first.

• 1:14:00Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 1:14:02Drew Afualo?

Oh, let's see. Should I show y'all first?

• 1:14:07Speaker 01

  Shut up.

• 1:14:09Speaker 01

  Shut up.

• 1:14:10Drew Afualo?

I told you, my brain is so powerful.

• 1:14:12Speaker 01

  Cut the cameras.

• 1:14:13Drew Afualo?

  I told you.

• 1:14:14Speaker 01

  Wait.

• 1:14:15Drew Afualo?

  That's so cute.

• 1:14:16Speaker 01

  I believe you.

• 1:14:17Drew Afualo?

And I only said the one.

• 1:14:18Speaker 01

I believe you, I believe you.

• 1:14:18Drew Afualo?

  Period.

• 1:14:19Speaker 01

  Okay, ready?

• 1:14:20Drew Afualo?

  Let's see.

• 1:14:23Speaker 01

  Oh, it's Tigger.

• 1:14:24Drew Afualo?

  It's Tigger, I love Tigger.

• 1:14:25Speaker 01

  With the little drum.

• 1:14:27Drew Afualo?

It's so funny because my brother went through a huge Tigger phase. Like, he loved the Tigger movie, like, he watched it thirty thousand times a day.

• 1:14:34Speaker 01

Also, it's twenty-five years old, barf.

• 1:14:36Drew Afualo?

  That's sick.

• 1:14:36Speaker 01

If anyone wants to throw up right now. You're old, just like I am.

• 1:14:41Drew Afualo?

He literally loved Tigger so much, he had this Tigger, like, suit, too, that was all fuzzy. And my brother's a big sweater, so he would sweat like crazy in it. And then sometimes when he was watching, and he'd be like, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, like, while he's watching. And then sometimes I would unzip the hood, the, just the back of the head, just a little bit. I'd just unzip it a little, and then he'd be like, ah, and then he would attack me, and then we'd start fighting. It was a fun memory.

• 1:15:05Speaker 01

Fond memories. I mean, I grew up with Pooh Bear, so that's why I love him today.

• 1:15:08Drew Afualo?

  Thank you so much.

• 1:15:09Speaker 01

  Never stopped, of course.

• 1:15:10Drew Afualo?

It's so fucking cute, they are so cute. And what a great size, too.

• 1:15:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, they're great.

• 1:15:15Drew Afualo?

Sometimes I always think pins will be tiny, teeny, teeny, tiny, but they're not.

• 1:15:18Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:15:19Drew Afualo?

  That's why those big.

• 1:15:19Speaker 01

These ones that you gave me are like massive.

• 1:15:21Drew Afualo?

They're like heavy as hell, too.

• 1:15:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:23Drew Afualo?

I, I literally messaged Blake, and I was like, do you care if I bring you some pins that I have extras of? And he was like, no, I don't care.

• 1:15:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's the worst.

• 1:15:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I hate that.

• 1:15:31Speaker 01

Yeah. As if I'd be like, no, I'm okay.

• 1:15:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, no, nah.

• 1:15:36Speaker 01

I think I literally said, I'll sign the adoption papers.

• 1:15:40Drew Afualo?

Well, thank you so much for the gift, that is so sweet.

• 1:15:42Speaker 01

  Of course, my pleasure.

• 1:15:43Drew Afualo?

And look at how you watched my manifestation in real life.

• 1:15:45Speaker 01

  I really did.

• 1:15:45Drew Afualo?

So now, that we're here at this part, what's something you're manifesting for yourself?

• 1:15:50Speaker 01

Oh my gosh, well, I know I kind of already said it, but I, it's kind of a general thing. Like, my manifestation this year is just that my name is being spoken in rooms I do not yet know exist.

• 1:15:59Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 1:16:00Speaker 01

And I love that. But yeah, I think I would say that. I, I try not to like put, obviously you want to like ask for things.

• 1:16:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:06Speaker 01

But I try not to put too many specifics because I want to just kind of take what comes my way.

• 1:16:11Drew Afualo?

  You're getting scared.

• 1:16:12Speaker 01

  I'm getting scared.

• 1:16:13Drew Afualo?

Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, you watched the piglet in real time.

• 1:16:16Speaker 01

  No, I really did.

• 1:16:16Drew Afualo?

You watched me in real time.

• 1:16:17Speaker 01

I'm like, wait, I can't say anything too much because it will come true.

• 1:16:21Drew Afualo?

And I'll tell you what, I talk about that in therapy, sometimes my therapist goes, why do you get so afraid when you think bad, like, random bad thoughts? And I'm like, because everything I think comes true.

• 1:16:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:31Drew Afualo?

  She was like, or sometimes.

• 1:16:33Speaker 01

  I'm too powerful.

• 1:16:33Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and she was like, well, what if you're wrong? And I'm all.

• 1:16:37Drew Afualo?

  You don't know anything.

• 1:16:38Speaker 01

  I know you're already sitting.

• 1:16:39Drew Afualo?

Girl, I told you I was a Virgo at the start of this. Okay, I told you that. But I'm so happy you came to hang out with us.

• 1:16:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, me too.

• 1:16:45Drew Afualo?

  I fucking love you.

• 1:16:45Speaker 01

  Thank you so much.

• 1:16:46Drew Afualo?

Last kind of like fun question. Do you have any advice for any aspiring content creators?

• 1:16:51Speaker 01

Oh, my gosh. Yeah, and I love that we kind of got to talk about it at the beginning.

• 1:16:55Drew Afualo?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:16:56Speaker 01

Don't go into making content with the goal of being famous.

• 1:17:01Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:02Speaker 01

Or popping off, as we like to say.

• 1:17:04Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:17:05Speaker 01

I just feel like, like, I have so much experience that it's actually amazing that I can look back and be like, I kind of, I don't want to say failed, because I actually love that part of my journey.

• 1:17:15Drew Afualo?

  No, you didn't fail.

• 1:17:15Speaker 01

And I think it like, it, it's part of why I love posting all my like outfit photos on Instagram or whatever today. Like, because of that part of me that was so interested in being creative and like having fun with the, the art of it all.

• 1:17:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:28Speaker 01

But, you know, I, I do have this like background where I sort of failed. And then I didn't, you know what I mean? And it was an accident. So I always just tell people like, it's so much easier said than done. And like, I recognize that.

• 1:17:39Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:17:40Speaker 01

I had been told by people, don't worry about the numbers when I was like wanting to be a creator.

• 1:17:45Drew Afualo?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:17:45Speaker 01

And I was always like, well, it's easy for you to say you have the numbers.

• 1:17:47Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:17:48Speaker 01

So I never say, don't worry about the numbers.

• 1:17:50Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:17:50Speaker 01

  Because you're going to.

• 1:17:51Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:17:51Speaker 01

But I just always tell people like, just let being yourself be at the forefront.

• 1:17:55Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:17:56Speaker 01

And, and getting to know somebody.

• 1:17:58Drew Afualo?

  Absolutely.

• 1:17:58Speaker 01

Like, especially if you're coming up or your brand new account, like, there's no way to get anywhere if you don't embrace like, community and making friends.

• 1:18:07Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:18:07Speaker 01

And like, also that is a huge testament as to why I like have such amazing people in my life now. Like, some of my best friends I met because of Instagram.

• 1:18:15Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 1:18:15Speaker 01

  Or TikTok.

• 1:18:16Drew Afualo?

  Likewise.

• 1:18:16Speaker 01

  Like, it's so cool.

• 1:18:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:17Speaker 01

Um, so I just feel like that, the writing's on the wall. It's like,

• 1:18:21Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:18:21Speaker 01

if you just pour yourself into it because it's like your passion and who you are.

• 1:18:24Drew Afualo?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:18:25Speaker 01

Um, also, you shouldn't feel like you're trying super hard.

• 1:18:28Drew Afualo?

Exactly, I agree with you. And it's also one of those things where I, I constantly, I like always say like, I can't tell you like a formula. Like, I really can't, like, because it just kind of happened. Um, but what I do always say too is that like, if you have something to contribute. And you are authentic about it and you would do it for free because I did it for free for a long fucking time. If you would do it for free, then I think it will wake up. It will work out on its own. Exactly the way it's supposed to. And I think that's why I wouldn't count that as a failure for you. I think it it pushed you towards the path you're supposed to be on.

• 1:19:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:19:01Drew Afualo?

And it puts you on the right one.

• 1:19:03Speaker 01

Exactly. And I like never would have thought that I would like have a manager or all these things like so much can happen if you just like kind of like let the fun and like the excitement for whatever it is that you're talking about.

• 1:19:15Drew Afualo?

  The passion of it.

• 1:19:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:19:16Drew Afualo?

Yeah, absolutely. I agree. And you and I did it for free for a long time. So we earned it. We earned the made up job.

• 1:19:23Speaker 01

I'm trying to earn it still, you know? The made up job.

• 1:19:26Drew Afualo?

Exactly. Well, I love you so much. Thank you for coming and hanging out. You're the best. Obviously, you guys will see us at Disneyland eventually. I'm sure together, we have to go together. Obviously, that's on the on the books.

• 1:19:37Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:19:38Drew Afualo?

But everyone who doesn't know and doesn't know where to find you, where can everybody find you?

• 1:19:42Speaker 01

Oh, my gosh. Well, I know it's sort of complicated right now because I have like two different usernames at the moment, but I will always be Blake's Pop Nook. My little pop culture, safe space of the internet. It is always going to be who I am, but my name is Blake Silva. So I am Blake Silva. That's my at on TikTok. On YouTube and on Instagram. Currently, I'm still Blake's Pop Nook, but if you just look up my first and last name.

• 1:20:03Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:04Speaker 01

  You'll find me.

• 1:20:04Drew Afualo?

  Hell, yeah.

• 1:20:05Speaker 01

You could throw something and hit me anywhere. I'm like, I'm trying to do like Snapchat these days. I don't know. I'm just like everywhere all at once. Yeah.

• 1:20:13Drew Afualo?

  No, literally within reaching distance.

• 1:20:15Speaker 01

  Yeah. Oh, also like Spotify.

• 1:20:17Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:20:18Speaker 01

  I'm on Spotify.

• 1:20:18Drew Afualo?

  Absolutely.

• 1:20:20Speaker 01

Well, currently on this podcast, but also I release my music and I have a lot of covers and I would love if you would listen to them.

• 1:20:27Drew Afualo?

  And they're so good.

• 1:20:28Speaker 01

  Thanks.

• 1:20:28Drew Afualo?

  I love them.

• 1:20:29Speaker 01

And there's more coming. Choo choo.

• 1:20:31Drew Afualo?

I'm so excited for you. I fucking love you. I think you're wonderful. And I want to say too. I really do genuinely love your content. I think your content is so heartwarming and so sweet and so authentic to you. Like, I'm very like sometimes people are like, how the fuck? Like, because I just like, I'll randomly bring up people on this show, like randomly, and obviously not you because you've been established creator for a long time, but I'll. Random people I'll lock on to and then they're like, how the fuck did you find them? And I'm like, I love them because I love their content.

• 1:21:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:01Drew Afualo?

And that's how I feel I felt about you for a very long time.

• 1:21:04Speaker 01

Well, I've been a fan of yours for a while, too.

• 1:21:06Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that's true. I know you and Dace were friends before you and I were.

• 1:21:09Speaker 01

Yeah, well, the first mention of my name was Two Idiot Girls.

• 1:21:12Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:21:13Speaker 01

And I remember I got tagged by some followers, like, oh, my God, my favorite podcast, like, just talked about you. And she was like, I don't know, I'm on Disney Pin TikTok right now and I can't leave. And here we are.

• 1:21:24Drew Afualo?

And she's so real for that.

• 1:21:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:25Drew Afualo?

Honestly, she she third eyed that one before me.

• 1:21:27Speaker 01

  She really?

• 1:21:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, she way before me.

• 1:21:29Speaker 01

  She sure did.

• 1:21:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, so.

• 1:21:30Speaker 01

And now we're doing pin unboxings in the Sprinter van at Disney World.

• 1:21:33Drew Afualo?

Right. And she's like, Blake, which ones should I get? I know, literally asking for tips. No, for real, she's like, I text Blake, Blake's Pop Nook. The other day, she was letting me talking to Carrie and she goes, well, what's Blake's last name? And my sister goes, Pop Nook? I don't know.

• 1:21:49Speaker 01

Not the first time, not that bad.

• 1:21:51Drew Afualo?

And Carrie goes, that's not his last name. There's no way.

• 1:21:54Speaker 01

  You don't know.

• 1:21:55Drew Afualo?

And she like looked it up.

• 1:21:56Speaker 01

  That's my fifth fun fact.

• 1:21:57Drew Afualo?

And then my sister goes, oh, it's it's Silva. Sorry.

• 1:22:01Drew Afualo?

She told me that story when I got here this morning. So, well, I adore you. I think you're amazing. Everyone, please go follow Blake. Go check out his music. It's amazing and so awesome. And also just do it because I fucking said to do it.

• 1:22:13Speaker 01
