On all that, we had like live performances. So we had like all of like, you know, Nick Lachey and Ja Rule and whoever was hot during the time. And like, without a fucking doubt, they would always hit on my mom. And I'm like, I'm literally the funniest kid in America.

• 0:48Drew Afualo?

And no one gives a fuck because of my mom.

• 0:56Drew Afualo?

Hey, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of the Comment Section Show, starring me, your fave, everybody knows me, who cares about me. Onto the guests. Today, we have the iconic, the hilarious, they're unbelievably talented Christina Kirkman.

• 1:11Speaker 01

  I'm wearing a mustard costume.

• 1:13Drew Afualo?

Oh, my God, that's such a funny joke.

• 1:15Speaker 01

Did you not hear me come in?

• 1:16Drew Afualo?

The Kendrick reference. I love that.

• 1:17Speaker 01

Yeah. If you're, I was gonna explain myself. If you're, if you're listening, I'm wearing a mustard costume.

• 1:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, there you go.

• 1:22Speaker 01

What I was gonna say is I, you know, because your people talk to my people because we're in Hollywood and we do that.

• 1:28Drew Afualo?

  Yes, of course.

• 1:29Speaker 01

And I was gonna wear a costume regardless.

• 1:30Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:31Speaker 01

And I thought, I thought like I was gonna make like an interesting choice. I was gonna show up and they're like, oh, this girl's so different. And then your team is like, Drew dresses up. If you want to dress up, I was like, oh, fuck, bitch.

• 1:42Drew Afualo?

Honestly, I'm glad. I'm glad that was your knee jerk reaction.

• 1:45Speaker 01

Yeah, I was gonna go for it regardless.

• 1:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's mine.

• 1:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:48Drew Afualo?

This episode is presented to you by eBay. Tell me if I'm alone here. But shopping used to feel more fun, before all of the algorithm fed blah and the endless sea of dupes. But I have a confession. I've found that fun feeling again on eBay. It's not mindless scrolling. It's a fashion pursuit. And when you score that rare sneaker or the bag You've been manifesting, it's a rush. Ebay has millions of pre-loved finds from hundreds of brands backed by Ebay Authenticity Guarantee. Ebay, things people love. I always encourage them to dress up because honestly, once you get here, you feel kinda silly when you're not in a costume.

• 2:25Speaker 01

Ridiculous. I was talking to a corn. A full beat.

• 2:30Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm just like corn and you're feeling silly.

• 2:32Speaker 01

Are you doing this all October?

• 2:33Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 2:34Speaker 01

  I love that.

• 2:34Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so I've done a highlighter, the Mona Lisa.

• 2:38Speaker 01

  Yeah, I saw that.

• 2:39Drew Afualo?

And then I was just a fish.

• 2:41Speaker 01

  Okay, what kind?

• 2:42Drew Afualo?

Now I'm corn. I honestly don't know what kind of fish.

• 2:45Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 2:45Drew Afualo?

A big fat one, honestly, was the biggest, it was the biggest thing ever. It was like, it felt like horse blinders when I was wearing them. But it was sea, honestly.

• 2:52Speaker 01

I was ready to commit. I was ready to commit.

• 2:55Drew Afualo?

  Perfect.

• 2:56Speaker 01

  Halloween's my favorite holiday.

• 2:57Drew Afualo?

  Oh my god, mine too.

• 2:58Speaker 01

So when I first started dating my boyfriend six years ago, I said like, oh, Halloween's my favorite holiday. But he went to ASU. So if you say that to like a dude from ASU, it's like, oh, I like to have sex. You know what I mean? Like, that's what it means when you say I like Halloween. Yeah, like, I love Halloween. I'm like, no, no, you don't understand. I was coralline last year. Like, I fucking sewed fucking buttons to my eyes.

• 3:20Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 3:21Speaker 01

  I'm committed to the bit.

• 3:22Drew Afualo?

  I, I, I love that about you.

• 3:24Speaker 01

  Thanks.

• 3:24Drew Afualo?

Honestly, and I think a lot of funny women do love Halloween.

• 3:27Speaker 01

  It's a blast.

• 3:27Drew Afualo?

It's a time to be silly.

• 3:28Speaker 01

  Don't get me wrong, I'll, I'll, I'll dress like a hoe too.

• 3:32Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I love that. Range, we need range.

• 3:35Speaker 01

That's what I'm saying. Like, you never know my next move.

• 3:37Drew Afualo?

Right. I think when I was in college and I started doing group costumes with like my girlfriends.

• 3:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:42Drew Afualo?

My rule was always like, I don't care if it's slutty, it just has to be smart. Like, I wanted to be something cool.

• 3:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:47Drew Afualo?

  Like something niche, something awesome.

• 3:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:49Drew Afualo?

And we can hoe it out if we need to.

• 3:51Speaker 01

  Right.

• 3:51Drew Afualo?

But like, as long as it's something cool, then I'm in.

• 3:54Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 3:54Drew Afualo?

And I think the very first one we ever did was, we were spring breakers. So we just cut holes in beanies.

• 3:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:00Drew Afualo?

And wore bikinis, which was perfect.

• 4:01Speaker 01

  That was like a shoe-in.

• 4:02Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and it was a hit. Like, we killed all night. One of my friends though got too drunk before we left the house and didn't cut holes in her beanie, so she was just a girl in a beanie.

• 4:09Speaker 01

  Right.

• 4:10Drew Afualo?

But that's on her, honestly. She was like, I didn't cut the holes. And I was like, well, now there's three of us.

• 4:15Speaker 01

The whole costume is, is on.

• 4:16Drew Afualo?

And then they were like, okay, so spring breakers and girl in a beanie. Perfect.

• 4:19Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm like, yeah, I'm trying to be different.

• 4:20Drew Afualo?

  And she didn't care, so.

• 4:22Speaker 01

We did like, we did some whack ass shit. What did we do? We did painters. I don't know. I think we were in an overall phase. We just like, put paint on our body and

• 4:32Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 4:32Speaker 01

wore overalls really, yeah, we paint things. And then, um, one year we did, do you remember that song? Gimme the business.

• 4:40Drew Afualo?

  I think so.

• 4:42Speaker 01

We were just like business hoes. Like, there was no creativity.

• 4:46Drew Afualo?

  I love that.

• 4:47Speaker 01

  Yeah, you know.

• 4:47Drew Afualo?

As you get older, it evolves.

• 4:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:49Drew Afualo?

It gets more clever and still, still with like, the slutty in there.

• 4:53Speaker 01

And now I'm just, you know, mustard. And I had, I had this shit, like, I, this was packed and ready. I had easy access to this.

• 5:02Drew Afualo?

I honestly have quite a few costumes in my house, most of which I did own before doing this.

• 5:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:07Drew Afualo?

So like, I do love a good costume.

• 5:09Speaker 01

  Oh, same.

• 5:10Drew Afualo?

And I love, the cheaper looking, the better, in my opinion.

• 5:12Speaker 01

  Oh, 100%.

• 5:12Drew Afualo?

Like, when it looks really thrown and together and haphazard, I'm in.

• 5:16Speaker 01

One of my best friends, she has an FBI, uh, federal body inspector. She's worn it. I've been friends with her for 10 years. Every fucking year, that bitch wears it. It's now just FB. And we're like, Yavit, you gotta fucking switch it up. I'm like, I got a mustard costume at home.

• 5:32Drew Afualo?

Please get a new federal body inspector.

• 5:34Speaker 01

It's like coming up, it's like Fashion Nova, like the letters are chipping. But like, for some reason, it's just like, even cooler every year. I'm like, honestly, bitch.

• 5:42Drew Afualo?

  She does the same costume.

• 5:43Speaker 01

She's got full-blown camel toe now. It's 10 years old. I'm like, dude, free drinks all night, man.

• 5:49Drew Afualo?

You wear that federal body inspector.

• 5:50Speaker 01

  You wear that, baby.

• 5:51Drew Afualo?

You wear that shit, girl. I think a couple of years ago, I was, I was She-Hulk. But I was a very specific version of She-Hulk, and then my man was The Hulk.

• 5:59Speaker 01

  Right.

• 6:00Drew Afualo?

And so like, when I, when I did the makeup and stuff, it was awesome. But then when we posted it, people were like, Hmm, they're cousins. And I was like, they're also, uh, not real. They're also make believe.

• 6:12Speaker 01

  They're also fake, bitch.

• 6:13Drew Afualo?

Yeah, they're make believe, so let's go off that.

• 6:15Speaker 01

  Right, right, right.

• 6:16Drew Afualo?

  Like, let's go off of-

• 6:16Speaker 01

Dude, it's fucking Halloween, man. Like, what are we doing?

• 6:19Drew Afualo?

Well, also, like, I know that She-Hulk is supposed to be with Daredevil.

• 6:22Speaker 01

  Right.

• 6:23Drew Afualo?

I'm sure you can imagine my apprehension with making my man dress up as a blind man.

• 6:27Speaker 01

  Of course, of course.

• 6:28Drew Afualo?

Character or not, it felt insensitive.

• 6:30Speaker 01

  Right.

• 6:31Drew Afualo?

Believe it or not, I did my research before I did the costume. So I thought, you know, maybe we make you The Hulk.

• 6:36Speaker 01

  Right, right.

• 6:37Drew Afualo?

I don't, I don't want to do anything like that.

• 6:39Speaker 01

  And they still-

• 6:40Drew Afualo?

And they were still like, hmm. And I was like, and some of you guys are cousins and you're still together.

• 6:44Speaker 01

I was like, alright, so pretend-

• 6:45Drew Afualo?

I know a couple cousins that have kids.

• 6:46Speaker 01

Pretend we're in Alabama, like, and now you don't have a fucking problem with it.

• 6:52Drew Afualo?

I love that you love Halloween. What's one of your favorite costumes you've ever done?

• 6:54Speaker 01

Oh, my favorite costume, man. I mean, I did love Coraline. That was sick. I did like the whole button makeup tutorial.

• 7:05Drew Afualo?

  So good.

• 7:06Speaker 01

I'm trying to think like what other, I mean, this is from, I have two wiener dogs.

• 7:12Drew Afualo?

Love, and I do want to talk about your wiener dogs.

• 7:14Speaker 01

I mean, I'm down to talk about them. This is my boyfriend's. I have a ketchup one. I broke it out last week just because, and it has some questionable stains on it.

• 7:25Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:25Speaker 01

So I didn't wear that one.

• 7:27Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:28Speaker 01

But I was ketchup, he was mustard, and then we did our Halloween photos outside of Wiener Schnitzel.

• 7:32Drew Afualo?

  Oh, and they're hot dogs.

• 7:33Speaker 01

  And they were hot dogs.

• 7:34Drew Afualo?

  That's so fucking cute.

• 7:35Speaker 01

So that was, that was a good one.

• 7:36Drew Afualo?

I have two Frenchies. So squid and tuna.

• 7:39Speaker 01

  Great names.

• 7:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, thank you.

• 7:41Speaker 01

What are your, you guys do four costumes, right? You're not?

• 7:43Drew Afualo?

Yeah, we, we've dressed them up like just in pairs as them. Um, and tuna's completely 100% deaf. So like, he's honestly, you would think deaf dogs are like harder to like do things with, like you would do with normal. Honestly, he's like the most well behaved.

• 7:59Speaker 01

Cause he doesn't know what the fuck is going on.

• 8:01Drew Afualo?

Exactly. Loving, like he's never agitated. He's never angry because he can't hear shit.

• 8:04Speaker 01

  Right. He can't be overstimulated.

• 8:05Drew Afualo?

Yeah, those ears are for real for sure. Like, they're so useless. His, they turn all the time. They hear nothing.

• 8:10Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 8:11Drew Afualo?

So like this year, I was thinking about dressing them up as each other.

• 8:14Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 8:15Drew Afualo?

Or also Pain and Panic from Hercules.

• 8:17Speaker 01

  I love.

• 8:17Drew Afualo?

Cause I thought that would be really funny.

• 8:19Speaker 01

Oh my, are, but are you like committing to making these costumes?

• 8:21Drew Afualo?

No, for them, no. Mostly because they cost me enough money as it is. Cause as I said, they're Frenchies.

• 8:27Speaker 01

  Right.

• 8:28Drew Afualo?

So that does come with a bill.

• 8:28Speaker 01

  No, they're Himalayas.

• 8:29Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and we need dogs are kind of up there too sometimes.

• 8:32Speaker 01

  What the fuck, man?

• 8:33Drew Afualo?

  Girl, they're like little babies.

• 8:34Speaker 01

Also, I got, I got dogs too, because like I love to walk and I'm like, oh, this will be fun. Like it'll, I'll leave the house. I got two dogs that fucking hate walking. Like they, they literally hate walking. So I never leave.

• 8:46Drew Afualo?

  Honestly.

• 8:46Speaker 01

I'd like never leave. I'm like, what the fuck?

• 8:48Drew Afualo?

You're all, oh, perfect. So now there's four couch potatoes.

• 8:50Speaker 01

No, dude, we do nothing. Like, this is my first day out of the house this month. And it will be like that the whole month.

• 8:57Drew Afualo?

Yeah, my dog, same thing. Well, the good thing is about them being like, you know, tiny and small and overweight.

• 9:03Speaker 01

You can just shuttle them around?

• 9:05Drew Afualo?

Yeah, well, and also like, if they do a couple laps up and down my hallway.

• 9:09Speaker 01

Girl, work up for the year.

• 9:11Drew Afualo?

And they have to lay down for 20 minutes. So it works, it kind of works out in my favor.

• 9:14Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 9:14Drew Afualo?

They're also not overweight, they're perfectly sized.

• 9:16Speaker 01

My, one of mine, which I just, anyway, this, whatever. Uh, one of my dogs is in hydrotherapy, shut up, don't say anything. He's got back problems. So, uh, he does the little water treadmill.

• 9:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 9:28Speaker 01

So that's his workout. I'm like, good king, you're good for the, for the fucking month. But Halloween costumes, I really want to dress, so my youngest demonic daughter, Willa, I really want to do Kill Bill. But I want to do Kill Will.

• 9:41Drew Afualo?

  That's such a good idea.

• 9:42Speaker 01

I can't fucking find the yellow jumpsuit. And I'm like, do I really want to make a fucking yellow jumpsuit? I mean, what else am I doing? I'm not leaving my house.

• 9:49Drew Afualo?

  Might as well.

• 9:50Speaker 01

Might as fucking well. Might as well.

• 9:53Drew Afualo?

  That's a great one though.

• 9:54Speaker 01

  That's a good one, right?

• 9:55Drew Afualo?

  And she's blonde.

• 9:55Speaker 01

She's got so many, we could do Willa Wonka. Dude, we were firing these, I was so stoned the other night, I was, I was like, I have a great idea, I'm gonna make a fucking Kill Bill costume. And then I was like, I don't know how to sew.

• 10:08Drew Afualo?

  What am I doing?

• 10:09Speaker 01

How to do any of that?

• 10:09Drew Afualo?

I don't really know. I know, that's, I, I feel like Pain and Panic came to me.

• 10:13Speaker 01

  That's a good one.

• 10:14Drew Afualo?

When I was high, I was like, well, and they're annoying like them, so that's how I figured if they could talk, they would talk like that.

• 10:20Speaker 01

That's a great, I, what a great animated duo. That's an underrated animated duo.

• 10:25Drew Afualo?

  I'm saying.

• 10:26Speaker 01

  What's your favorite animated duo?

• 10:28Drew Afualo?

  Duo? Probably Lilo and Stitch.

• 10:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:32Drew Afualo?

If I had to pick. That honestly, like, the portrayal of their borderline abusive relationship when she bursts up to him. That is my relationship with my oldest dog, Squid.

• 10:42Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 10:42Drew Afualo?

That is my, that is my son, my literal child, I birthed him, he grew inside me, I gave birth to him.

• 10:47Speaker 01

All right, well, I will not doubt it.

• 10:48Drew Afualo?

He literally, like, the way he just shoves her to the ground and shit, that is how he treats me, like, for real. And she, like, puts the lay on him and he, and he calms down for a second, that's my dog, like, for real, that is him, and that is how he acts. So, I would say the two of them, probably. What about you?

• 11:01Speaker 01

  Dude SpongeBob and Patrick.

• 11:03Drew Afualo?

  Oh, that's a great one.

• 11:04Speaker 01

It's, it's, it's my favorite TV show of all time. My senior thesis in college was you had to take some art and like basically transform it into a different medium.

• 11:16Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 11:16Speaker 01

And I watched 300 episodes of SpongeBob and I made it an Adult Swim show.

• 11:21Drew Afualo?

  Oh, cool.

• 11:21Speaker 01

It's the dirtiest fucking show. Let me give you my, I have actually never talked about this. Let me give you my theory. This is, this was my high school brain that came up with this theory, okay? Bikini Bottom. Okay.

• 11:33Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 11:34Speaker 01

SpongeBob is absorbent, he's a tampon. Squidward is phallic, he's penis.

• 11:40Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 11:40Speaker 01

But this is where, and then you, Krabs is crab, Sandy Cheeks, Sandy Cheeks. But then it gets dicey because Patrick, I'm like, what the fuck is Patrick? He's the clit. Because he's just a pink blob and he lives under a rock, he's hard to find.

• 11:55Drew Afualo?

I'm gonna be honest, dude, I, I feel high listening to it.

• 11:58Speaker 01

I know. This, this is, I'd say this shit to my boyfriend who doesn't smoke and he's like, yeah, I, I like don't know where to go. Oh my god, if I had a nickel for every time I was like, now get this. Yeah, no, same.

• 12:09Drew Afualo?

And I'd talk for 45 minutes about something that makes no sense.

• 12:11Speaker 01

And then at the end of the scene, nobody's on the opposite side of that conversation. It's just me and a wall, get this.

• 12:17Drew Afualo?

  Me alone.

• 12:18Speaker 01

  There's no one there.

• 12:19Drew Afualo?

  Carrying it by myself.

• 12:20Speaker 01

It's the, like, uh, most genius writing ever. I still watch it every fucking night. It's my favorite show. It never gets old.

• 12:27Drew Afualo?

  It's so funny.

• 12:28Speaker 01

And it's the only show, like, I only watched animation growing up and I'm, now I'm like, that's why so many parents could sit and watch that show.

• 12:37Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 12:37Speaker 01

Cause whatever joke went over my head, they got, but like, ah, it's just such a good fucking show.

• 12:42Drew Afualo?

I know, it's very layered, I would say. Their, their earlier seasons are some of the best TV work done, in my opinion. I, I agree with you and that reminds me of, if we're speaking early 90s, like Nickelodeon.

• 12:53Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 12:53Drew Afualo?

So I know you did do some ac, you've been an actress.

• 12:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:57Drew Afualo?

For a long time and you were a child star.

• 12:59Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 13:00Drew Afualo?

When you did that open call tape, right, like that thing?

• 13:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, huh.

• 13:03Drew Afualo?

I have to tell you, this is the most, this is the funniest, most full circle thing ever.

• 13:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 13:08Drew Afualo?

My sister auditioned for that same thing.

• 13:12Drew Afualo?

And she like sent in a tape. She was like, this is it for me. Like, I'm gonna do it. And then you got it. And I remember my sister being like, wow.

• 13:20Speaker 01

  What a fucking bitch.

• 13:24Drew Afualo?

She literally, when we saw it, found you on TikTok, she was like, oh my God, that's the girl that won that fucking contest.

• 13:33Drew Afualo?

  I know that bitch.

• 13:34Speaker 01

  Dude, wow.

• 13:35Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, you stole someone's dream.

• 13:37Speaker 01

Dude, I get it. Like, I've had people like to this day, like, they'll come up to me in the streets and be like, I auditioned for that. And I'll be like, dude, where do we go from here?

• 13:47Drew Afualo?

And now my life is in chaos.

• 13:49Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm like, right, right. I'm like, I don't know what to fucking say, but like, that's, I get that so, I mean, so many fucking kids. It was over 10,000 kids.

• 14:00Drew Afualo?

  I know.

• 14:01Speaker 01

That was like a, and also I feel like that was a pretty, shows weren't doing shit like that.

• 14:06Drew Afualo?

No, at all. That's why I so distinctly, I remember my mom recording my sister.

• 14:10Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 14:11Drew Afualo?

And like trying to do it.

• 14:12Speaker 01

Do you remember the, cause I remember my, cause you had to go online by your last name and you had to get a scene. Do you remember the scenes?

• 14:17Drew Afualo?

Yeah. Do you remember your scene?

• 14:19Speaker 03

Girl, I don't even think I made it that far.

• 14:22Drew Afualo?

She didn't even make it that far.

• 14:24Speaker 01

I just slated my name and then I never fucking, they never go.

• 14:27Drew Afualo?

Oh, cause you know, you have to be like, I'm.

• 14:29Speaker 03

I remember Amanda is like Penelope, the girl.

• 14:31Speaker 01

Okay. Was that a, was that like a script or did you do your own?

• 14:35Speaker 03

It's a script and then there's like a character, my mom.

• 14:37Speaker 01

  Okay, okay.

• 14:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's right.

• 14:39Speaker 01

  Dude.

• 14:39Drew Afualo?

And I was just watching cause I was too young to audition.

• 14:42Speaker 01

Yeah. Oh, were you? What was that? Was there?

• 14:44Drew Afualo?

I'm two years younger than her. So like.

• 14:46Speaker 01

What was the, I was 10. How old did you have to be?

• 14:48Drew Afualo?

  I think, I don't know, probably 10. Yeah.

• 14:51Speaker 01

  Shit.

• 14:51Drew Afualo?

And then sometimes like if my sister saw it and then my mom would be like, cause we did everything together. Like, we're like Irish twins, okay? So like sometimes my mom would be like, let Jason do this. Cause I'd be like, I wanna do it too. I wanna do it too. I wanna do it too. My mom was like, let her do this.

• 15:07Speaker 01

  Yeah. Oh, my God.

• 15:09Drew Afualo?

Like we had to like separate uh sometimes. So, so we had some separation.

• 15:13Speaker 01

But I can't believe I never heard this, this story. You waited for, you waited for this fucking moment.

• 15:18Drew Afualo?

  To bring it up.

• 15:19Speaker 01

Great. So the podcast is over.

• 15:20Drew Afualo?

When we were in the, when we were in the green room, she goes, make sure you bring up that she stole my dream.

• 15:23Speaker 01

Oh, my God. That is hol- yeah, man.

• 15:27Drew Afualo?

Well, how was that, what was that experience like for you? I'd love to know.

• 15:30Speaker 01

  Um.

• 15:30Drew Afualo?

I feel like it's living the dream as a kid.

• 15:32Speaker 01

Well, I mean, hey, listen, I, I think what made it really cool for me is that I wasn't a child actor.

• 15:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 15:40Speaker 01

And I think I had no fucking expectation and most of the kids that went out for that were child actors because they did casting calls in basically all of the quote-unquote Hollywood hubs.

• 15:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 15:52Speaker 01

And then I did a self-tape, which now being an actor as an adult, I'm like, no one's watching the fucking self-tapes when there's in-person auditions.

• 15:59Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 16:00Speaker 01

Um, and the craziest thing is, I hate saying this because I feel like it kind of, you know, fucking ruins my credibility. I never watched a goddamn episode of all that.

• 16:09Drew Afualo?

It doesn't ruin your credibility at all, I don't think.

• 16:11Speaker 01

I didn't know shit. I watched Sponge- the only reason why I knew about the contest was because the commercial was on during SpongeBob.

• 16:16Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 16:17Speaker 01

And my friends loved all that.

• 16:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:20Speaker 01

And I was like, fuck it, I'm funny, let's fucking, let's do this.

• 16:23Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:23Speaker 01

And my dad went downstairs, got the, the video camera and I, my first, I think I did two tapes.

• 16:32Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 16:32Speaker 01

The first one was you had to go online by your last name and find, uh, whatever sides. And mine was meeting Jay Leno.

• 16:42Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 16:42Speaker 01

And I, I'll never forget, I turned to my mom and I was like, who's Jay Leno? And then she had an aneurysm and then, crazy, the first celebrity I ever met when I touched down in LA was Jay Leno at Bob's Burger. And I think this might be a Mandela effect because my mom just got a brand-new, like, Sony camera. She was like, you're never gonna believe this, my daughter's first scene was about meeting you, can we get a photo? We get a photo and then someone stole my mom's camera and I never saw that photo, so it, I, it might have been like a lucid dream.

• 17:11Drew Afualo?

You could be lying and nobody knows.

• 17:12Speaker 01

I could be lying, I've smoked a lot of pot in my life, I don't know.

• 17:14Drew Afualo?

You could be a big fat liar, who knows?

• 17:15Speaker 01

  I mean, that's for sure.

• 17:18Drew Afualo?

  That's so crazy, though.

• 17:19Speaker 01

And then we just had to do like impersonations, so I did Sandy Cheeks, I did like, uh, uh, breakdancing, rapping DJ. I did Steve Irwin, R.I.P.

• 17:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 17:31Speaker 01

I did, I don't even fucking know, but I just like sent it in and then every Friday night from 10,000 to top 5, they would air like top 10.

• 17:41Drew Afualo?

  Oh, I remember.

• 17:41Speaker 01

And I was like, oh shit, man, I think I'm, I think I'm going to LA. I think I'm, this is crazy.

• 17:46Drew Afualo?

We watched that like Jason didn't get drafted. We were like, no way.

• 17:52Speaker 01

  Fuck.

• 17:52Drew Afualo?

No way dude, no way you didn't get the call.

• 17:55Speaker 01

Damn. Yeah, man, that was, and then as far as being on the show, I mean, I had a blast. I like, you know, technically, you know, Amanda Bynes was, was my, like, it was just fucking nuts.

• 18:10Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I can't even imagine.

• 18:11Speaker 01

Like, my, it's funny, Nick Cannon just started following me on Instagram, and I'm like, I wonder if he knows that he was one of the judges, because the three judges for Top 5, it was like, America votes. And then the host was Taron Killam, and this was when Taron Killam was dating Amanda Bynes, which is just crazy seeing that as a kid, that dynamic, what a random dynamic. But it was Nick Cannon, Josh Peck, and Amanda Bynes were the judges.

• 18:37Drew Afualo?

  Wow.

• 18:38Speaker 01

  And it was just...

• 18:39Drew Afualo?

Real holy trinity at the time.

• 18:40Speaker 01

  Real holy trinity.

• 18:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:42Speaker 01

I mean, it's, I was really, really lucky. My mom quit her job on the spot, so I had an adult supervising me 24/7.

• 18:52Drew Afualo?

  Had to.

• 18:52Speaker 01

  It's an adult industry.

• 18:54Drew Afualo?

  Well, thank God, yeah.

• 18:55Speaker 01

I mean, I'm already fucked up.

• 18:56Drew Afualo?

  Smart mom.

• 18:57Speaker 01

Yeah, I couldn't afford to be any more fucked up. But it was fun, it was just like going to a big playground every day, like, I loved the cast, I was the youngest one, they took me in, and...

• 19:08Drew Afualo?

  That's so awesome.

• 19:08Speaker 01

I used to follow them around, like, Jack DeSena, who after all that ended up doing Avatar, one of my favorite people to this day, super, super talented and funny. He was kind of my, my big brother, and I would just follow him around set, and whatever character he was written to do, I would try to copy the voices he was doing.

• 19:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 19:28Speaker 01

And then the writers would just kind of write me in to play as little sister as like the smaller version of, of his character, so it was a blast.

• 19:35Drew Afualo?

  Cute.

• 19:35Speaker 01

  It was really fun, yeah.

• 19:36Drew Afualo?

Look at you, get in where you fit in.

• 19:38Speaker 01

Yeah, it was fun. I mean, going, going back to Massachusetts was... Yeah.

• 19:44Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, like after that.

• 19:45Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, it was terrible. But being on it was great.

• 19:48Drew Afualo?

  I mean, that's fucking awesome.

• 19:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 19:49Drew Afualo?

And it's so full circle. The world is so small, because here we are together.

• 19:52Speaker 01

  I, yeah, I'm, I, yeah.

• 19:54Drew Afualo?

Snatched the dream of a million children.

• 19:57Speaker 01

Don't hold it against me. It was rigged.

• 20:01Drew Afualo?

Well, fast forward to TikTok. So how did you get on TikTok? Like, what, what was it that made you want to start?

• 20:04Speaker 01

  Against my will.

• 20:06Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 20:06Speaker 01

You know, I was gonna say, the normal trajectory, like shit on it for long enough, and then you're like, bah.

• 20:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 20:14Speaker 01

What else am I doing? I mean, I was acting full time before TikTok, and then, you know, I was like, I gotta make money. What am I doing? And then I got Winston, my first dog, and I was like, I started, I, I, I had TikTok, I wasn't taking it seriously. I started posting videos of him on my TikTok, and people loved it. And I'm like, oh, I love voiceover, I love animation. What if I kind of make him a character and hide behind it? And that way, because at the time, it was still taboo to be an actor and be on social. It was like, yeah, it was a little...

• 20:49Drew Afualo?

I know what you mean. I've had a few actor friends come on the show who have said that, like...

• 20:53Speaker 01

It was just dicey then. And already as somebody that's like, I wasn't working a fuck ton where I was in a position to just be like, I'm gonna do TikTok too. I wanted to be really cautious about it.

• 21:04Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:04Speaker 01

So I kind of made accidentally this character for my dog, and it was so fun. And then I'm like, oh my God, people want to pay me to do this?

• 21:11Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:11Speaker 01

And then after doing that for so long, I had this epiphany of like, this is a fucking dog, this is not sustainable.

• 21:18Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:19Speaker 01

What if I just do it for myself? And then one day, I just committed, and it kind of took off. And it's just so much more rewarding, because I love acting, I will always love acting, I'll always do it in some capacity. But you only get to work like maybe one or two jobs a year.

• 21:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:33Speaker 01

And I was so tired of waiting for permission to entertain. With TikTok, you, I can, I don't have to get on at all.

• 21:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:39Speaker 01

I can get on every day. It's way more fulfilling in that way.

• 21:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and, and the payoff is better in that regard too.

• 21:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:46Drew Afualo?

Which like, I'm, I'm obviously like, I had no, no like entertainment plans, really.

• 21:53Drew Afualo?

Outside of sports when I first started doing this because that that was my path originally.

• 21:58Speaker 01

What what sport did you what sport are you in?

• 22:00Drew Afualo?

Uh, football because I I worked at the NFL, but then I got fired two weeks before the pandemic hit. And then that's when I started making TikTok videos. So that's how I got into TikTok. But like at the time, like what I really wanted was to entertain, right? Like I I wanted to be on camera. I just thought sports was the way like I was like, okay, I'll just go this route. Because I didn't think acting was an option for me. Like I didn't think I could pursue that for real. So I was like, let me just do journalism. That's a little bit more sustainable, I guess, in that regard. And I could still be on camera and then kind of maybe work from there.

• 22:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:29Drew Afualo?

I thought I was gonna be like a like reporter or like a, I don't know, like a an analyst.

• 22:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:36Drew Afualo?

I thought I would be something like that. And I was like, okay, first woman, like I was like, okay, I could do something like that. Like that. That was like my thought process at the time. But what I really want to do is like entertain people.

• 22:46Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 22:46Drew Afualo?

So then when you start doing this, like, it's almost like, you know, sometimes people get pissed because they're saying like, oh, influencers are like crossing over into other more serious forums, which is like acting, singing, that kind of thing. Which now I'm like venturing into acting, which I've always wanted to act. I just didn't think it was an option for me. And so now I'm like, well, yeah, I'm going in a back door because everyone's taking too goddamn long.

• 23:07Speaker 01

  And and that's.

• 23:07Drew Afualo?

  Myself.

• 23:08Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, like I I've always been at this weird intersection of that conversation. Because to be honest, when I was an actor full time, I had those negative thoughts towards content creators.

• 23:20Drew Afualo?

  Right. And that's fair.

• 23:21Speaker 01

Because here's the thing too, is like, I think that this is entertainment. And I and I I think like for acting, for an example, my question one day was like, what do I like? What do I love about making no money, working harder than everybody I know, but I'm not employed?

• 23:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:38Speaker 01

Missing funerals and weddings and all of this, like, what is it that keeps me here besides the fact that I'm delusional? And it was, I like to entertain.

• 23:46Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 23:46Speaker 01

And I was like, okay, I don't have to go one path to achieve that.

• 23:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:50Speaker 01

And then when you have that realization, you're like, oh, I can do this. Whole world opens up now. I can do acting. I can do voiceover. I can do this.

• 23:56Drew Afualo?

  Totally.

• 23:57Speaker 01

I think it was, I think it's just changed so much. I know back then, a lot of that resentment came from. Actors really had to go through hell to make like 5% progress.

• 24:08Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 24:08Speaker 01

And then to see these creators kind of come in and work.

• 24:11Drew Afualo?

Yeah, when influencers became a thing.

• 24:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:13Drew Afualo?

They just, they just take them for the money.

• 24:15Speaker 01

It was this entitlement. It was this entitlement of, oh, because I have X amount of followers, I'll be entertaining in this mode. And the reality is, is like, a lot of actors suck ass at social media and a lot of like, social media people can't act. So like, but there are people that can do both.

• 24:30Drew Afualo?

  T, yeah, I agree.

• 24:32Speaker 01

And you need to experience that world for it to open up.

• 24:33Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 24:34Speaker 01

But it was just weird back then and there was a, like, we just had a lot of resentment, honestly, because it was jealousy. I know that I was jealous and had resentment because I was like, damn, these motherfuckers have control over their career. I'm told like, don't get tattoos, don't color your hair, don't go on vacation because you might book a job. Don't, you know, don't post anything on social media because then you're social media. It's just like, we had so much resentment towards that.

• 24:56Drew Afualo?

And that's very, um, like you said, it's like, it's changed so much. So it's like the evolution of, of, and the integration of both.

• 25:02Speaker 01

  Oh, it's blended.

• 25:03Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and, and I get that too, because I, I, even as someone who, who is an influencer, like, blew up as an influencer. I get it, because there are a lot of influencers I fucking hate.

• 25:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:12Drew Afualo?

So when I see them with no talent, doing other shit. Yeah, no, for sure, it's annoying, right?

• 25:17Speaker 01

  100%.

• 25:18Drew Afualo?

So I was like, I, I've said before too, that sometimes I think you can tell. Right? Like, you can tell when someone didn't want to act.

• 25:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:26Drew Afualo?

This was just a big opportunity, a lot of money.

• 25:28Speaker 01

Manager called and was like, hey.

• 25:29Drew Afualo?

Yeah, they're like, hey, I got this role for you, lots of money, lots of press, it, it works for your career. You can fucking tell, I think is the point. So that's why I'm like, sometimes I've told people, remember that sometimes what people blew up for is not actually what they wanted to do forever.

• 25:42Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 25:43Drew Afualo?

  Sometimes it's just a vehicle.

• 25:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:44Drew Afualo?

And I think, and that's why I said, I think audiences are a lot smarter than sometimes creators give them credit for. So they can tell when it's inauthentic.

• 25:52Speaker 01

Oh, you clock that shit immediately.

• 25:53Drew Afualo?

Right, and I started acting lessons recently and like, my acting coach told me like, when I was first telling him, because I've had a poor experience with an acting coach before.

• 26:01Speaker 01

  Of course.

• 26:02Drew Afualo?

That wrote me off as soon as she found out what I started as, which I, again, I understand, but you took the meeting with me, so I kind of figured you knew. Uh, when we talked about it, so when I met with my now acting coach. I kind of explained to him, this is what I did, like this is, but this is what I want to do, this is where I'm going, that kind of thing. And then he's like, the only question I have is like, do you really want to do this? Like, is this something you really want to do? Like, this would be a dream. And I said, yeah, and he goes, then that's it. That's all you need to know. And he was like, that's, I think, and I also think if I'm taking lessons, I'm taking this shit serious.

• 26:32Speaker 01

  Right.

• 26:32Drew Afualo?

I don't have to do, if I was just some asshole that's like, well, I have eight million followers, it's fine. I wouldn't be going and asking someone to help teach me.

• 26:39Speaker 01

  Yeah, oh, yeah.

• 26:40Drew Afualo?

So I think it's like, it all depends on how people handle, like, transitioning into the craft, I think.

• 26:45Speaker 01

  One hundred percent.

• 26:46Drew Afualo?

  I think that transition matters.

• 26:47Speaker 01

I mean, listen, I, I think that even as an actor, there are like, there are actors that are shitty, that other actors are like, how the fuck did they? That like, what the fuck is, I just sat around in a circle just crying kumbaya on my acting class for six years. What the fuck is this? Like, that resentment, it's like.

• 27:05Drew Afualo?

  It's natural, I think.

• 27:06Speaker 01

It's natural, but the, the worlds are so integrated. At the end of the day, I truly believe if you know how to entertain, you can, you can kind of take that vehicle anywhere, and you should take that vehicle anywhere, but I think there's a lot of resentment because people like to put people in boxes.

• 27:22Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 27:23Speaker 01

I, my resentment too, trying to get out of, like, being a child actor, I took fifteen years off. I come back to LA, being an egotistical douchebag, being like, I was a serious regular on our show fifteen years ago, I'm gonna work. And everyone's like, dude, you've been out of here for fifteen years, we don't know what to do with you, and everybody wanted to put me in kids comedy. And that's why I was also so nervous about getting on social media, because I'm like, I don't want to be the fucking TikTok girl. I just got out of being the all that girl.

• 27:53Drew Afualo?

Yeah, no, you're actually so real for that, honestly. That makes sense.

• 27:55Speaker 01

But like, but you, you have the flexibility, the cool thing now is like, you, and what you don't have when you're a struggling actor is you really do have control over your brand with social. And you can say no, and that's so empowering. As a struggling actor, the word no doesn't exist. Like, you have to be doe-eyed.

• 28:11Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 28:12Speaker 01

You have to say yes to everything.

• 28:13Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, just in case.

• 28:14Speaker 01

  Just in case.

• 28:15Drew Afualo?

They know someone who knows someone.

• 28:17Speaker 01

Right. So I think like, that's what's really empowering about social media is like, I can say fuck no. To work with shitty people.

• 28:24Drew Afualo?

And honestly, like, as I've done quite a few reads, like, haven't booked anything yet.

• 28:29Speaker 01

That's part for the course, man.

• 28:31Drew Afualo?

I literally did a read, uh, for a really big show that's coming out soon. Asked, they reached out to me.

• 28:38Speaker 01

  Right.

• 28:39Drew Afualo?

And the, the role is literally an influencer that hosts a successful podcast. That is literally the byline for it.

• 28:47Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 28:47Drew Afualo?

  I didn't get it.

• 28:50Speaker 01

They said, you know what? Chew on the nose. Let's make, let's make an interesting choice.

• 28:54Drew Afualo?

Fuck that bitch, actually. I, I literally got it and I, in my slate, because I'm, uh, sometimes I'm silly in my slate, which by the way, I, and this is.

• 29:02Speaker 01

  Fuck a slate.

• 29:02Drew Afualo?

In my, for real, in my slate, I'm gonna start lying about my height.

• 29:05Speaker 01

You should. You should just lie about everything.

• 29:07Drew Afualo?

I know. I said six, I say six feet, and then I started saying, but if you guys need me to be five ten, I can. Like, I started saying that in my slate because I'm really like, I think they're like, mm, behemoth, no, we're not casting that bitch, because I'm too tall. So I think I need to start lying more.

• 29:22Speaker 01

Well, you know what it is too? So many, like, when there's, I'm always on an apple box. I've just accepted, like, ah, where's your fucking apple box?

• 29:30Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 29:35Speaker 00

Male actors are really fucking short.

• 30:10Drew Afualo?

  I know, girl. They're tiny.

• 30:13Speaker 01

So that, like, a lot of times, I mean, I've been on set where the girl is taller and homeboy's on a fucking apple box, and I'm like, you know what?

• 30:22Drew Afualo?

And that's fine. Which, this is something I'll ask you, because you're, because you're an actor already.

• 30:26Speaker 01

  Oh, boy.

• 30:27Drew Afualo?

How do you feel about, like, romantic, filming romantic scenes? Because.

• 30:31Speaker 01

  Oh, let's see.

• 30:32Drew Afualo?

  Chills down my spine.

• 30:34Speaker 01

  The worst thing.

• 30:35Drew Afualo?

I'm so afraid to do it.

• 30:38Drew Afualo?

Me acting like I have something.

• 30:39Speaker 01

I have like so, I just watched a old, very old, I mean, I just watched a very, very old clip of Zendaya, probably seven years ago. They were talking about Euphoria, uh, and whatever, late night host was interviewing her and they're like, oh, there's a lot of dicks on the show or whatever. And the first comment, like the most liked comment was like, is she still engaged? Like sad face. And I'm like.

• 31:01Drew Afualo?

  That's not.

• 31:02Speaker 01

It's so, there is nothing sexy.

• 31:06Drew Afualo?

  Or romantic about it.

• 31:08Speaker 01

It, it, it's like kissing your grandma. Like there is, it could not be more uncomfortable.

• 31:14Drew Afualo?

  Like methodical.

• 31:15Speaker 01

Even if you have, it's, it's not even has anything to do with whoever you're having the scene with. It's like, I'll tell you, my first, um, I was on a show. Called Ambitions and I was just fucking everybody. I was fucking everybody on that show. And, um, just like, you know, wives, husbands, like, no one was safe. And that was my first time having intimate scenes and it was the most terrifying thing. And my best friend, Mina, her mom is, uh, Machin. Who did Twin Peaks, iconic actress. She did Gossip Girl and, uh, she played Lily Reinhardt's mom on Riverdale. So I call her in Atlanta. I'm like, hey. I have a threesome scene. What's your advice? And she's like, just have fun, darling. Like she was like, have a blast. And I'm like, I'm in the hotel room.

• 32:00Speaker 01

Like, what do I do, Machin? She's like, oh, have fun. Like, just enjoy it. And I mean, that's really all you can do because. If you start fixating on how uncomfortable it is. Makeout scenes is like, whatever. Typically it's a closed set.

• 32:15Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 32:16Speaker 01

When you're doing those kinds of scenes. So they tried to really just keep an intimacy coordinator, maybe a hair and makeup person. Your DP, like it's closed. But for a threesome scene in particular, right? Like, there's so much choreography.

• 32:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 32:31Speaker 01

Like, you don't look the way you think you're looking when you're fucking. Like, you, you, you think you're looking good, like, you're not looking, and you're like-

• 32:39Drew Afualo?

In your natural state, it's terrible, probably.

• 32:41Speaker 01

Right, and you got like a camera coming over here, you got a camera at this angle, and you're like, okay, how do I block this to not look, to look like I'm enjoying it?

• 32:48Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 32:48Speaker 01

To not be nervous? So there's like, you're thinking of so many things, and sometimes you do have the freedom to just like, really be in the moment and just go crazy, but so much of it is, there's so much blocking, it's so technical.

• 33:00Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 33:00Speaker 01

It is really uncomfortable, and actually, the, when my boyfriend and I went on our first date.

• 33:05Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 33:06Speaker 01

I was so fed up with, I had dated male actors in the past. They're the fucking most insecure.

• 33:12Drew Afualo?

  I guarantee it.

• 33:13Speaker 01

Not a blanket statement, but I will say, you would think that when you date somebody in the same industry, they would understand.

• 33:20Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 33:21Speaker 01

I was in a, not a great relationship, uh, and I would like have to go do this shit, and it was like this weird jealousy thing, I'm like, dude, I'm getting a check, like, this is not, whatever.

• 33:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 33:32Speaker 01

One of us needs to be employed.

• 33:33Drew Afualo?

  It's like stage fights.

• 33:34Speaker 01

Like, someone, someone needs to make money.

• 33:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you wanna go make money, or?

• 33:37Speaker 01

Right, right, you wanna go do it, please. So, I'm, I was so frustrated at this point, and, and the first thing I like belted out to my current boyfriend on our first date was like, hey, I'm on a show right now, I'm fucking a lot of people, and I'm having threesomes, and he just was like, yeah, it's your job. And he works in the realm of Hollywood, just on the other side, and he was like, yeah, I get it. It's like, there's nothing sexy about it at all.

• 33:57Drew Afualo?

It's not alluring in any way.

• 33:59Speaker 01

At all, it's awkward as fuck. I really don't look forward to those days. All you can do is like, take a shot.

• 34:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 34:07Speaker 01

Rip a joint, and just have fun. That's it.

• 34:10Drew Afualo?

  That's good.

• 34:10Speaker 01

And just hope a SAG rep doesn't show up.

• 34:12Drew Afualo?

I'm honestly gonna take the advice, I'm gonna take it. This episode is brought to you by Sephora. We love comments from strangers, as you know. The internet is a hilarious place after all, but sometimes it's really best to get expert advice right from the source, like with beauty. Whatever look you're going for, Sephora is the go-to. Their beauty advisors really get beauty, and are absolute pros at personalized wrecks. And for the most elite beauty grabs like Summer Fridays, Lip Butter Balm, Day's Signature Shampoo, and the extremely viral Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, you can only get them at Sephora. Get beauty from people who get beauty, only at Sephora.

• 34:50Speaker 01

Oh, well, speaking of, I actually have a horror story. I had a little bit of PTSD when I drove over here. The studio, I used to audition over here. I haven't been over here and I don't leave the house.

• 34:59Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 34:59Speaker 01

Um, there's a studio over here. I auditioned for, there was a huge show that, I'm sorry. There was a show that was supposed to come out. This was maybe twenty sixteen, twenty seven, seventeen. I go over for the show. I'm aware of like, everybody that's going over for the show, people that are working on the show. It's people I knew from Nickelodeon. It's like, I had, I had no reps at the time. I dropped my whole team. I was, you know, raw dogging this stuff. And I was like, okay, this is a, everything checks out. This is a legit production.

• 35:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 35:31Speaker 01

I get pinned as like, top two to play the, the, the lead's love interest. Now, I should have fucking known, because the writer was also the director, was also the lead.

• 35:43Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 35:43Speaker 01

Okay, some like weird dude from Dallas. I was like, I shouldn't have known then. But like, actor brain was like, nope, I have to, like, this is my rent.

• 35:51Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 35:51Speaker 01

Um, make top two, I'm amped about it. I go in for a chemistry read.

• 35:56Drew Afualo?

  Yeah. With him?

• 35:58Speaker 01

  With him.

• 35:58Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 35:59Speaker 01

And this guy, there's like, there's no world in which I would play this man's love interest.

• 36:04Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 36:04Speaker 01

Like, there's just, there's just no, it was, this wasn't satirical. There was just like, this dude was like, three times my age. It wasn't, was never gonna happen. But again, actor brain was like, just do what you gotta do. So I show up and one of my mutuals that had worked on Nickelodeon was kind of like, everybody thought this was legit. He's like, all right, we're gonna do a chemistry read. I'm like, okay, I have to kiss this guy. I'm like, nah, that's a little weird. This is not usually how the chemistry reads. That's fine. Um, and then I booked the part and I'm like, oh my god, I booked the part. It's gonna shoot in Texas. Great, awesome, let me know. And then he's like, oh, we're, I'm gonna take you out and explain. Ends up writing me a check for my time.

• 36:48Speaker 01

This was like, two hundred and fifty dollars, but at the time, I was like, two hundred and fifty dollars. Writes me a check. Come to find out, maybe like, two months later backstage puts out a like, do not work order with this production. This guy just goes, leave LA, gone. I end up talking to like, four mutual girlfriends, all of which who also booked the lead. Who also had to do this chemistry read, who also got a check for 250 to go up.

• 37:13Drew Afualo?

  Oh my god.

• 37:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:16Drew Afualo?

  Fucking horrifying.

• 37:17Speaker 01

Wild, right, right over on this set down.

• 37:19Drew Afualo?

And then they're like, and women have a problem with working with men in this industry?

• 37:24Speaker 01

  It was, I was like-

• 37:25Drew Afualo?

And, and when men, oh my god, when the Me Too movement started, and then there was like, a couple men who were like, I don't know, just now I'm afraid, cause what if I'm working with someone?

• 37:32Speaker 01

  Right, right.

• 37:33Drew Afualo?

  Shut the fuck up.

• 37:35Speaker 01

Dude, there's, and there's, and there's so much of that too.

• 37:38Drew Afualo?

  I know.

• 37:38Speaker 01

And as, and like, here's the thing, when you're, you know, it's, it's a weird, you're doe-eyed, you, you come usually from somewhere that's not LA, you come here, you wanna make it big, you wanna like, pay your rent, and you kind of think this is just how it goes.

• 37:53Drew Afualo?

Yeah, this is part of it, yeah. And it's fucking terrible and manipulative.

• 37:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:57Drew Afualo?

And exploitive, like, which is why, I think, first of all, I think it was wonderful that your mom was with you when you were a child. Because it was even crazier back then. And, second of all, that's why I think you're like, coming out the other side with an even stronger head on your shoulders. Because you're like, yeah, you're not fooling me.

• 38:14Speaker 01

Yeah, oh, well, that's what it is too. And like, I had a really young mom, so, you know, my mom had me really young, even growing up, like, I couldn't get away with shit that my friends could get away with.

• 38:24Drew Afualo?

  That's so T, so did I.

• 38:25Speaker 01

Cause I'm like, my mom was my age like, five years ago, like, she knows I'm lying.

• 38:29Drew Afualo?

I said that about my mom too, my mom was young when she had us.

• 38:31Speaker 01

I couldn't get away with fucking shit. So especially when she was out here, we knew nothing about Hollywood. There was definitely a lot of times where, where people tried to like, cuck us. But I always, I felt like I was always sharp even as a kid, and, and it's an adult, it's an adult industry, you have to have parents with you, and my mom followed me around. I, I never took a meeting by myself, I never was on set by myself, and, you know, unfortunately-

• 38:56Drew Afualo?

She's just so far up your ass, that's how it has to be.

• 38:58Speaker 01

  100%.

• 38:59Drew Afualo?

Yeah, need that, need that, need my mom.

• 39:02Speaker 01

At the time, I was like, get away. Christmas Eve. Well, also, like, everybody wanted to hook up with my mom, too. Like, we would have, like-

• 39:09Drew Afualo?

And mom, it's really making it weird for me.

• 39:11Speaker 01

Dude, it was like, I'm like, dude, she's got a husband, man, like, it's my dad. But, you know, like, we had all the Friday, Fridays on all that, we had, like, live performances. So we had, like, all of, like, you know, Nick Lachey and Ja Rule and whoever was hot during the time. And like, without a fucking doubt, they would always hit on my mom. And I'm like, I'm literally the funniest kid in America.

• 39:35Drew Afualo?

And no one gives a fuck because of my mom.

• 39:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:37Drew Afualo?

My mom's face card is distracting my genius.

• 39:40Speaker 01

Fucking Carmella, man. Thank God for Carmella, though. Love you, mom.

• 39:44Drew Afualo?

I know, thank God. If you, was there any movies that you were like?

• 39:47Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 39:47Drew Afualo?

Oh, I would have loved to be in that.

• 39:48Speaker 01

Stick It. So Stick It was out when I was doing all that. And I was, wanted to be an Olympian gymnast at the time. I was at, I was almost Junior Olympics when I was on all that. And I had to let go of, I tried to train in L.A. and it was a bust. Um, but that casting, yeah. That casting was happening while I was doing all, I was just way too young. And I remember I found out about, I'm like, you gotta get me that audition. And they were like, you're literally like 20 years too young for this movie. I'm like, it's fine, I'll be 20. That was one-

• 40:15Drew Afualo?

Oh, they can play young, but I can't play old.

• 40:16Speaker 01

Right, please. Okay, make it make sense. That was the one that I was like, damn. But it's crazy, I, like, I wasn't an actor by any means. Because once I was doing that, things started getting really serious. All these big agencies wanted to rep me. And I was going in for, like, long order and pretty heavy roles.

• 40:35Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 40:36Speaker 01

And I would, I remember, and it's, and I wonder, it made me think a lot about child actors. Because I did comedy and only comedy. But I would re, I learned a lot about fucked up shit that happens because of reading sides.

• 40:53Speaker 01

If it was like, like, I went in for a daughter that was sexually abused by her father. And I didn't know what that was until I read the script. And I remember I read it and I started crying. And I was like, I, this is gross. Like, I just felt I couldn't distinguish the acting and the real.

• 41:11Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 41:12Speaker 01

And I never went out for those roles as a kid, but it's very interesting how that that doesn't have an effect on you as a as a kid. A lot of kids too have like their first kiss. On set or it's a weird, it's hard to kind of tell the difference. So I stick to the fun of the ha ha's. The gigglies.

• 41:30Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I I'm with you on that one. Yeah, I feel that. I I even like I had Samantha Henratty on the show a while ago. And she was in so many kids' shows, like on both Disney and Nickelodeon. And she was telling me how crazy it was too. And she was, she told me about like her first time on set of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She was like in a whole series of episodes with them. And I was like, she was explaining it to me and I was like, as a kid? That would have rocked my world.

• 41:58Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 41:58Drew Afualo?

I would have been like, I'm the coolest person alive. Like your mentality about you on all that, like, I would have felt the same.

• 42:05Speaker 01

I had, I mean, I had a mom that, I had a mom that kept me grounded. Like, I'd be like, I'm the shit. She's like, you're not. Sit the fuck down.

• 42:13Speaker 01

She got me real like two. I actually remember my first interview was with Variety after they like announced I won all that. And then Variety's like, how does it, uh, what are your plans? I don't even fucking remember. It was like me and my mom. And they're like, what are your plans now that your daughter's like gonna be the biggest child star? And my mom said, we're gonna keep her grounded. And I said in the interview, I said, I'm grounded? And she was like, no, we're gonna keep you grounded. I was like, fuck that. I hate this shit. I'm going home. Like, what do you mean? I'm, I just won the.

• 42:42Drew Afualo?

  What I do?

• 42:42Speaker 01

What's your like, what's your, is your like genre comedy? Like, what do you?

• 42:46Drew Afualo?

Yeah, as of right now, yeah. I've had a couple that were a little more on the serious side, but nothing terribly serious. Not like House of the Dragon serious. It was more like, it's a little sad, like that kind of thing, but it's mostly been comedy. Like, and I've done a few voiceover things too, like auditions as well for like adult cartoons. I've gotten quite a few for kids cartoons for like Nickelodeon, which I've been like, yes. But also no, because I feel like just my branding and everything around it doesn't really jive well with kids' stuff. Which I like, I would love to, I think, in theory, if I did like. Like a big Pixar film or something like that. But they were for like actual kid's shows that are like on like Bluey.

• 43:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, okay.

• 43:28Drew Afualo?

Like during Bluey time and I was like, I just don't think.

• 43:31Speaker 01

I don't want people looking me up and being like, mom, I have a question.

• 43:34Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I don't think people should.

• 43:35Speaker 01

You have a really good voice for voiceover and voiceover, I will say, is like the, one of the most fun corners of acting.

• 43:41Drew Afualo?

That's what some of my friends have told me who have done it.

• 43:43Speaker 01

Oh my god, it's a blast. And there's no ego. You go to like, I remember, there's like a, honestly, there's a bunch of dads that kind of work all the jobs.

• 43:51Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 43:52Speaker 01

And you show up and it's just like a dad in sweatpants and like you show up to work in sweats. There's no ego at all. You get to have like a lot of fun with voiceover.

• 44:00Drew Afualo?

That's so fun. I, I, I'm excited about voiceover. I've done a couple auditions for adult cartoons.

• 44:05Speaker 01

  Those are sick.

• 44:05Drew Afualo?

Which I think is pretty fun. They're like Bob's Burger Family Guy-esque, which I think that's too.

• 44:10Speaker 01

Yeah. Oh, you'd be so good at that.

• 44:12Drew Afualo?

Thank you. I think you got a great voice for voiceover too. I actually think now that I'm thinking about it and I'm listening to you talk, I realized that we, I think we both read for the same Marshalls commercial.

• 44:21Speaker 01

  Did we really?

• 44:22Drew Afualo?

Because they sent me your tape as an example. They were like, oh.

• 44:26Speaker 01

  That's kind of shade.

• 44:28Drew Afualo?

They were to, to mirror essentially. Like they were saying, oh, this is what we're looking for, but it was your voice. And I remember hearing.

• 44:35Speaker 01

Dude, can you imagine if they were like, mm, we're not going to cast her, but can you just replicate this voice exactly?

• 44:40Drew Afualo?

This one is ass. In case you want to know what not to do.

• 44:42Speaker 01

Yeah, don't do anything this bitch did.

• 44:46Drew Afualo?

So I think, I think, I was going to say you have a great voice for voiceover too, but I feel like that's why you've done voiceover stuff before. And that's cool to know. It's really fun.

• 44:52Speaker 01

  It's so fun.

• 44:53Drew Afualo?

  I think that's too.

• 44:54Speaker 01

  It's so fun.

• 44:55Drew Afualo?

Okay, I have some fun facts about you.

• 44:57Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 44:57Drew Afualo?

Would you like to hear them, even though I've?

• 44:59Speaker 01

  I feel like I don't have a choice.

• 45:00Drew Afualo?

Well, the first one is obviously that you won Nickelodeon's Funniest Kid in America.

• 45:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:04Drew Afualo?

And you placed in the top five, obviously. Also, we have you wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. What were your?

• 45:46Speaker 01

  Bars and floor.

• 45:48Drew Afualo?

  Okay, Ms. Tumblr.

• 45:50Speaker 01

I actually lost my virginity to the balance beam. That's a fun fact. I actually don't think I've publicly ever said that, yeah.

• 45:56Drew Afualo?

Damn, hymen smashed on that thing?

• 45:58Speaker 01

  Dude, bad.

• 45:59Drew Afualo?

  Shit.

• 45:59Speaker 01

I did a back tuck, straddled it, I said, "I'm bleeding." And then, I remember my coach was like, internally or externally, I was like, what do those words mean?

• 46:09Drew Afualo?

  Girl, fuck if I know.

• 46:10Speaker 01

Like, there's blood coming out of this area. And then, I will never forget, one of my other coaches made a joke that, at the time, went over in my head. She was like, "Well, I hope she can reproduce." And then, later in life, when I was having sex, my cherry never popped, and I go, "Hmm, I think that's what happened there." I don't know if I can reproduce, I haven't made it to that point in my life.

• 46:31Drew Afualo?

You put the clues together on your own later on?

• 46:33Speaker 01

But, but, but, uh, bars and floor.

• 46:37Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 46:37Speaker 01

Fucking hated the vaults, and, you know, I, I, it's a love-hate relationship with the beam.

• 46:42Drew Afualo?

I'm so jealous. I love gymnasts. I think you guys are some of the most athletic people in the world.

• 46:46Speaker 01

It was, it, like, I will say, I think that's where I get all of my, I think I'm a very disciplined person, and I 100% get that from being a gymnast. Because that was like, back in the day, where there was like, no restrictions on like, how, how intense a coach could be. You know, like, they used to, we used to do, like, splits, and they would put encyclopedias on our feet to train the bone to just bend enough. And that was just like, normal, and I'd go to school and be like, "What'd you guys do today?" And they're like, "We play with rocks." And I'm like, "Oh, sick, I got encyclopedias on my bones." They're like, "I don't know if that's..."

• 47:22Drew Afualo?

They're binding my feet in my gymnast class.

• 47:26Drew Afualo?

That's cool, though. Okay, athlete. And I know you box a lot, too.

• 47:30Speaker 01

Been doing martial arts since 2015?

• 47:34Drew Afualo?

  Cool.

• 47:35Speaker 01

I've, uh, kinda dabbled in all of them, and now I just do Muay Thai and boxing.

• 47:41Drew Afualo?

  My man boxes.

• 47:42Speaker 01

  Do you?

• 47:43Drew Afualo?

No, I can't because of the nails.

• 47:45Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, it's so hard to do with nails?

• 47:47Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so, and I, I work too much, so I'm like, well...

• 47:50Speaker 01

  You're like, "I'm employed, I have to..."

• 47:52Drew Afualo?

And I was like, if I ever do, like, get rid of... The nails for anything, then yeah, I wanna try.

• 47:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:57Drew Afualo?

But my man's been boxing, I think now for like two-ish, almost three years.

• 48:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:01Drew Afualo?

He loves it. It's like the best.

• 48:03Speaker 01

  It really is the best.

• 48:04Drew Afualo?

I know, and he, and he like loves anything athletic anyways. I feel like you're a pretty athletic person. Obviously you are, cuz you were a gymnast.

• 48:09Speaker 01

Well, I was just saying, before I walked in here, I like really, I'm, I'm really trying to like lower my cortisol, but like everything that I love spikes my cortisol. And boxing is one of them, and I'm just like constantly in fight or flight. Like, I just don't know what.

• 48:23Drew Afualo?

  Need that, need that.

• 48:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:24Drew Afualo?

  You need that stimulation?

• 48:25Speaker 01

I really do. I really do.

• 48:27Drew Afualo?

That's you getting the zoomies when you go there?

• 48:29Speaker 01

  I'm just constantly in zoomies.

• 48:30Drew Afualo?

You just gotta work it out.

• 48:31Speaker 01

  Constantly in zoomies.

• 48:32Drew Afualo?

Otherwise, who knows what I'll do?

• 48:34Speaker 01

I can't be calm, it's scary. It's funny, I was on, on like a phone call the other night, and I was like really angry. And my boyfriend was like, were you like popping off? I was like, no, I was silent. He's like, oh shit. I don't even know what that's like. I'm like, you don't wanna know, it was scary.

• 48:48Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I, I went to a Rams game the other day.

• 48:51Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 48:52Drew Afualo?

Um, cuz they invited me, and I love, I love hanging out with the Rams cuz they put me on the Jumbotron, and that's really all I need.

• 48:58Speaker 01

What are you doing? What's your like Jumbotron move? I always get nervous.

• 49:01Drew Afualo?

Oh, I do, I, they told me to dance, so I was like, any dance? And they said, yeah, so I was just kinda switching it up. I was like doing the gritty.

• 49:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 49:08Drew Afualo?

I was hitting them folks, you know, just kinda the dougie.

• 49:11Speaker 01

  Again, range.

• 49:12Drew Afualo?

  This one.

• 49:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:13Drew Afualo?

  I don't remember what that one's called.

• 49:14Speaker 01

  It's a shoe-in.

• 49:14Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so I was just kinda doing like all the, all the ones that little shithead kids do on Fortnite. That's what I was kinda doing.

• 49:21Speaker 01

  The renegade?

• 49:22Drew Afualo?

Yeah, over and over and over again. Yeah, they put me on the Jumbotron so many times that when I left, this was like back in December when I went to a Rams game. Um, and they put me on the Jumbotron like at least ten times. And I'm thinking to myself, I'm like, well, the odds of like a bunch of my fans being here are probably kinda low. Right, like I know my audience, right? Some of them probably know, but then I got endless amounts of tags of people watching me on the Jumbotron. And even when I left the Rams game, this old man, he was probably like in his fifties, he goes, hey, I know you. Which is scary when a straight man says that to me. And then I go, do you? And he goes, you're the girl from the Jumbotron. And then I go, yeah.

• 50:03Speaker 01

  You're right Papa, I am.

• 50:04Drew Afualo?

And he goes, you're famous. And then I go, period. And then I got in the car and left. But, this most recent time I went to a Rams game, I was sitting next to someone, well, I was sitting in the, in the little box and like, there was someone in there who was really, really, really fucking rude and I think because she, I think she was racist, I'm just gonna say it.

• 50:23Speaker 01

Is this a creator, was this a creator? Were you like amongst creators?

• 50:25Drew Afualo?

No, she was, she's a singer.

• 50:27Speaker 01

  Got it.

• 50:28Drew Afualo?

But I only know one of her songs, so I, you know. But anyway, she was being really, really rude and I think it's because she thought I stole her seat. I didn't, there's no assigned seats. Anyways, that's besides the point. You were talking about cortisol being raised.

• 50:39Speaker 01

  Right.

• 50:40Drew Afualo?

When I was sitting there, I'm not even, because I have done a lot of work in therapy to not be, to not lash out.

• 50:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:46Drew Afualo?

Right, to not lash out, I'm trying my best. Like, and so when she was talking a lot of shit and was like trying not to like, address me, even though I knew she was talking about me, I swear to God, my Oura ring said that I was stressed for 25 minutes. Like they said my BPM was really high. Because, and it's not because I'm scared or nervous, it's literally because that's how angry I get.

• 51:08Speaker 01

  You're swallowing your cortisol.

• 51:09Drew Afualo?

So I have to tell myself, you need to calm down. Other people know you in this thing. Like I'm literally telling myself, you need to calm down. I literally, like I start sweating.

• 51:18Speaker 01

It's UV the Oura ring man.

• 51:21Drew Afualo?

Just me and my Oura ring right now. And I'm like me, me tapping my chest, trying to ground myself. I'm like, I need to calm down.

• 51:26Speaker 01

See, I can't have one of those.

• 51:27Drew Afualo?

  I need to calm down.

• 51:28Speaker 01

I can't have one of those. I just, I just started therapy by the way. Dude, why?

• 51:33Drew Afualo?

  And how's it going?

• 51:34Speaker 01

Terrible. I, I literally, like, session one, I, or session two maybe, I don't fucking know.

• 51:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 51:41Speaker 01

I got so nervous that I was talking about myself too much, that like, I just like trauma dumped and then I was like, so, like, uh, what about you? What's like?

• 51:50Drew Afualo?

And you, what's new with you?

• 51:52Speaker 01

This is $300 an hour babe. You better start speaking. I'm like, okay, good. I'm like, so you married? Like what's that?

• 51:57Drew Afualo?

No, literally same with my therapist. I literally, sometimes I try to make her laugh on purpose. I can't help it, but sometimes when I do get her a little bit, I literally go, got her. And then I like, I like forget what I was saying. Like I was like, oh fuck, what was I saying? Oh, right, right.

• 52:14Speaker 01

  Right, trauma.

• 52:14Drew Afualo?

  Trauma, yes, right.

• 52:15Speaker 01

I do that with this lady at the post office. I, I, I love, my favorite thing though is like cracking people that are like just hard nuts to crack.

• 52:23Drew Afualo?

  Same.

• 52:23Speaker 01

And they're my favorite people. And I just, cause I just feel like they're so misunderstood and I feel like I wanna, I wanna understand.

• 52:30Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 52:30Speaker 01

I have this one lady at the post office, never smiles, never, never like, and I've been going there for four or five years now. And I think I finally got her to like, she just gave me like a half a, honestly, she, yeah, she might've like, kinda had like a mini stroke. I don't, I, but I took it as like a laugh and I was, I same thing, I was like, got you bitch. Give me that tracking. See you next week.

• 52:50Drew Afualo?

I got your ass, didn't I? I literally like, my therapist the other day, well, obviously therapy, it's fun, but not.

• 52:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:57Drew Afualo?

Um, she told me, cause I was telling her, I talk about like being a public person and like struggling with no privacy and shit like that. And she told me, yeah, you know, cause I told her, when I feel upset at having no privacy, I feel ungrateful.

• 53:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:12Drew Afualo?

And that makes me feel like I might lose everything, cause I'm being ungrateful, like the universe will punish me kinda thing. And she goes, yeah, those are called double binds, like when you feel like damned if you do, damned if you don't. So the psychological term for it is double binds. And I'm like, okay. And then she goes, and actually, you know, statistically speaking, in women, when you frequently encounter double binds, you uh, enter psychosis pretty quickly, in women especially. She tells me that, I go, oh, right.

• 53:36Speaker 01

What am I doing with this information now?

• 53:38Drew Afualo?

So she goes, so like, if you feel like you are going like insane, like it's probably because

• 53:44Speaker 01

  You are.

• 53:44Drew Afualo?

You are to an extent. And I said, oh.

• 53:47Speaker 01

You said, are you available tomorrow from the double sessions?

• 53:50Drew Afualo?

She didn't say insane, I said that, but I was like, okay, so if I feel like I'm going crazy, it's because I am.

• 53:56Speaker 01

  And she's like respectfully.

• 53:58Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and then she was like, okay, so same time next week?

• 53:59Speaker 01

Yeah, and I'm like, dude, it's, it's, sometimes she, I like, sometimes she asks me questions and I'm like, Regina, please. Like, I, I didn't come here to like critically think, I came here

• 54:11Drew Afualo?

Literally, whose side are you on?

• 54:12Speaker 01

To spew some shit and you fix me, like, she's asking me like, so, well, would this happen? I go, I can't, I don't, I can't do this with you right now.

• 54:19Drew Afualo?

I'm honestly going through a lot right now.

• 54:21Speaker 01

I'm going through a lot, you're supposed to make shit better, that's your job, I'm paying you $300 for 50, not even an hour, 50 minutes, bitch. Get to workin', fix me.

• 54:29Drew Afualo?

  Please, please, please.

• 54:30Speaker 01

  No, I can't.

• 54:31Drew Afualo?

  I get that though.

• 54:31Speaker 01

And then I, now I start, um, it's close to my house, so I, I, I walk now. Cause I'm like, it might be the only time I get outside. So then I'm, there's this one fucking hill I gotta go up before I get to her office. So I'm so winded when I get there. There is nothing more awkward than like trying to like really explain what's going on and trauma while you're winded. You're like, so yeah, yesterday, like yes, yesterday I was, I had pit stains in my sweatshirt. I was at the edge of my seat. I like was stressed because I was six minutes late and again, I only got 50. So I'm like, I'm all right, I gotta hurry up and tell you what the fuck's going on.

• 55:08Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:08Speaker 01

I'm winded, I'm crying. I'm like, this is, it's just, it's too much for me.

• 55:12Drew Afualo?

Can you crack a window in here?

• 55:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:14Drew Afualo?

It's a little hot. Can we turn that air down a bit? I can't really think straight.

• 55:21Drew Afualo?

  I get it, man.

• 55:22Speaker 01

That's bad. I'm working on it.

• 55:22Drew Afualo?

I get it. And I get, I get not leaving the house too.

• 55:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:25Drew Afualo?

I'm also actively working on that in therapy.

• 55:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:28Drew Afualo?

I was like, I think I'm going through a gray garden situation right now.

• 55:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:31Drew Afualo?

I told her like, I'm two steps from moving my mom into this house and letting it go to shit. I'm two steps, letting vines grow in the windows and shit. I'm really close.

• 55:40Speaker 01

Dude, that's great. I'm, I'm, I'm one foot in. I'm not even two steps. I'm in it.

• 55:45Drew Afualo?

I am, I'm also actively working on that too. I get that. This job, that is one of the bad things about this job is that it.

• 55:51Speaker 01

  Well, it's the extremes.

• 55:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:52Speaker 01

It's like you're either so on and around a million people and schmoozing and doing this.

• 55:58Drew Afualo?

  And traveling constantly, yeah.

• 55:59Speaker 01

Or you're like isolated, completely alone, doing nothing. There's no middle ground.

• 56:03Drew Afualo?

And there's no one to tell you, you should go outside, like.

• 56:05Speaker 01

Right. You're like, it's eight o'clock. I never left today or changed or showered or brushed my teeth.

• 56:10Drew Afualo?

If I look at my location, it says I've been there for like 87 hours and I'm like, damn, how long have I been?

• 56:15Speaker 01

Wellness check. Like I haven't left.

• 56:18Drew Afualo?

I haven't left the house in four days.

• 56:19Speaker 01

  Yeah, literally.

• 56:21Drew Afualo?

Okay, I have some more fun facts about you.

• 56:22Speaker 01

  Oh god.

• 56:23Drew Afualo?

Uh, it says you used to work the front desk at a gym.

• 56:25Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 56:26Drew Afualo?

  How was that job?

• 56:27Speaker 01

Oh, it was hilarious. I worked, uh...

• 56:30Drew Afualo?

  Was it like franchise gym?

• 56:31Speaker 01

  It was Equinox.

• 56:32Drew Afualo?

  Okay, tea.

• 56:32Speaker 01

When I moved out here, I worked, while I was at, trying to act, I worked like three or four service jobs at the same time. I worked at a hostess at The Nice Guy, which that was hilarious. I worked for, um, this crackhead marketer, and I worked at Equinox, which is where I ended up meeting two of my, my closest friends. But it was hilarious because it's the Equinox that's connected to WME.

• 56:57Drew Afualo?

  Oh, tea.

• 56:58Speaker 01

So, as a struggling actor, that was like a, like Jeff Goldblum would come in and be like, leave his Bentley key. Can I leave this at the front? And I'd be like, yep! And then like, just all of these people that like, I just wanted to be there.

• 57:10Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 57:11Speaker 01

That was like a really hard ego thing for me of like, damn, I am making nine fifty an hour, and you're catering to like, the elite.

• 57:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 57:22Speaker 01

And then at, um, same thing at Nice Guy. I mean, Nice Guy in its prime. That was where, I mean, you know, Drake would come in at two in the morning. I will never forget, Bob Saget used to come in all the time, and I'd be at the front, and he'd always come in and he'd be like, "Yeah, it's for Bob Saget?" I'm like, "Yeah, Bob, I know who you are. You don't gotta check in with me. I got you." Um, but it was crazy. That job was nuts, because I remember like, day one, they gave me a Rolodex of thousands of people that I had to know by face, because essentially, we only had nineteen tables at The Nice Guy.

• 57:53Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 57:54Speaker 01

And we would save most of those reservations for friends of the restaurant, or A-listers that would come in. So I had to know if a random celebrity came up. But it's crazy, because a lot of those important people, like tech people, they all look the same. They're all just like some variation of like, a, a white dude.

• 58:11Drew Afualo?

  Yep.

• 58:12Speaker 01

So, I got, like, week one, I got in so much trouble, because someone came up, and they were like, "Hey, can I get a table?" And I'm like, "No." And they were like, "Oh," and I was like, "Dude, no." And then my boss was like, "That's like, the head of some random tech company." I'm like, "Dude, you lost me."

• 58:25Drew Afualo?

Well, how the fuck was I supposed to know?

• 58:26Speaker 01

  Like...

• 58:27Drew Afualo?

You said, "Sorry, I'm not a virgin."

• 58:29Speaker 01

And, and then I worked both of those jobs, and I said, "You know what? Yeah, I still wanna be an actor."

• 58:33Drew Afualo?

  Believe it or not.

• 58:34Speaker 01

Believe it or not, I still want to do this.

• 58:38Drew Afualo?

How was it working in Equinox?

• 58:40Speaker 01

Um, Equinox actually is, is what started my love for boxing. All the money that I made at that job, I, there was, um, his name was Alon. He was the, he used to be a boxing coach for the Italian, uh, Italian boxers. He's from Italy.

• 58:58Drew Afualo?

  Oh, cool.

• 58:59Speaker 01

And he, it was expensive to do one-on-one training at Equinox. I got like a 15% discount. So my check every week would go to him and I would have him do one-on-one sessions and that's what started my love for, um,

• 59:11Drew Afualo?

  That's cool.

• 59:12Speaker 01

  Martial arts. Yeah.

• 59:12Drew Afualo?

  I love that.

• 59:13Speaker 01

So I, honestly, it was good. Like, I really, I'm, I'm really happy that I, like, worked as a kid and then I worked in high school. I worked through college.

• 59:26Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like had normal people jobs.

• 59:27Speaker 01

Yeah, because I'm still friends with a lot of people that have acted all the way through and to no fault of their own, they're just, I, I'm just appreciative that I understand kind of that world and it makes me, the, the wins that I would get along the way were like a lot more meaningful.

• 59:44Drew Afualo?

That's tea, honestly. I, I think that a lot about just doing this. Like, I, I, I've said before, cause sometimes people ask me questions. I'm like, I, I mean, like, I think sometimes people forget, like, I, I was a fully formed adult.

• 59:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:56Drew Afualo?

When I started doing this. I went through college. I worked real.

• 59:58Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 59:59Drew Afualo?

Real jobs. I worked shit jobs. I had no fucking money. I don't come from money. So like, having all of that experience before I did this, I think was like pivotal.

• 1:00:08Speaker 01

  100%.

• 1:00:09Drew Afualo?

To success and sustaining and all of that. Like, I really do think it worked in my favor.

• 1:00:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:13Drew Afualo?

That I lived a very normal, like, I've always said, like, I, I was aggressively normal before this happened to me and now I'm not. So there you go.

• 1:00:21Speaker 01

It just makes those moments a lot sweeter.

• 1:00:23Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:00:23Speaker 01

  You know?

• 1:00:24Drew Afualo?

You appreciate them a lot more. And then you also like realize too, what is actually hard.

• 1:00:29Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:00:30Drew Afualo?

You know what I'm saying? Cause like.

• 1:00:31Speaker 01

  100%.

• 1:00:32Drew Afualo?

Cause when you have, when, when people get famous very young, like whether it's on in influencer world or acting or whatever, it's very like, oh, this is the hardest job in the world.

• 1:00:40Speaker 01

  100%.

• 1:00:41Drew Afualo?

  It's for sure fucking no.

• 1:00:43Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:00:43Drew Afualo?

Like I've had, I can promise you it's not the hardest job in the world. I can promise you that. Even with the jobs I've had, I know that's not true.

• 1:00:49Speaker 01

It's nice to have both of those experiences.

• 1:00:50Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like I've always like described it as like it's it's a job that you could never prepare for the problems that you have with it.

• 1:00:58Speaker 01

  It's a job that.

• 1:00:59Drew Afualo?

It's unique. It's very unique in its problems.

• 1:01:01Speaker 01

Every, every job has its problems.

• 1:01:03Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:04Speaker 01

And I'm not going to sit here and argue what job has the most difficult problems because I'm not in the place to do that. But what I will say is the jobs that are specific to entertainment are only specific to entertainment.

• 1:01:14Drew Afualo?

  Exactly.

• 1:01:15Speaker 01

So it's very hard to kind of relate to people that.

• 1:01:19Drew Afualo?

  Or compare.

• 1:01:20Speaker 01

Yeah. So that's why like it's really important to find your community in what you do.

• 1:01:24Drew Afualo?

  Totally.

• 1:01:25Speaker 01

Because yeah, they're just so specific and it's not a matter of like, my job's harder than yours. It's just there, like you said, there's no other job that prepares you for the downfall, the downside of what we do.

• 1:01:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah, especially that's and that's tea too about finding community.

• 1:01:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:01:40Drew Afualo?

And that's why you're like, I'm still friends with people from before.

• 1:01:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:01:42Drew Afualo?

Which is tea because I've told people like make friends. When you start doing this, like, don't be an asshole, like make friends, connect with people because no one, not only gives a fuck about your problems because the world is hard enough as it is and and being a dickhead online is not a real problem in the grand scheme. But also like they just can't relate. Like they just, they don't understand it. They don't under, they can't relate to your, your grievances, like what you're upset about. And then you sound like a dick when you complain about it to someone who's like a nurse.

• 1:02:10Speaker 01

Well, you probably also relate to this too because I'm, I'm in my thirties.

• 1:02:13Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:14Speaker 01

We're on the older end of the creator spectrum.

• 1:02:17Drew Afualo?

Yeah, we're a thousand years old.

• 1:02:18Speaker 01

So like when I do this stuff, I'm like, this is my job. Like I'm not, I'm not going on brand trips because I'm like, oh, it's a free vacation. Let me like, get drunk with my girlfriends. I'm like, this is my fucking job.

• 1:02:27Drew Afualo?

I see it the exact same way.

• 1:02:28Speaker 01

You know what I mean? So I think that's also hard too, is that so many people in this world are younger and I, and I have so many friends that are younger, but sometimes it's like the stakes are a little bit different for me than for you because you're 21. Like you still, if this doesn't work out for you, you can go and we're not old, but like this is a job.

• 1:02:47Drew Afualo?

And we've lived a thousand lives before this.

• 1:02:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:50Drew Afualo?

  And I ain't going back.

• 1:02:50Speaker 01

  I'm showing up to work.

• 1:02:51Drew Afualo?

I don't know about you, girl, but I ain't going back.

• 1:02:53Speaker 01

I'm not, I'm not going back to.

• 1:02:55Drew Afualo?

  I burned my bridges already.

• 1:02:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:56Drew Afualo?

  I burned, yeah, girl.

• 1:02:58Speaker 01

  They're burned.

• 1:02:59Drew Afualo?

  Vikings death, okay?

• 1:02:59Speaker 01

  I can't go back, guys.

• 1:03:00Drew Afualo?

I burned all the ships. We're not going back.

• 1:03:02Speaker 01

Yeah, no, we gotta make this work somehow, please.

• 1:03:04Drew Afualo?

We gotta keep this ship afloat.

• 1:03:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:06Drew Afualo?

You know what I mean? I agree with you and I and I'm so glad to be I just turned thirty.

• 1:03:10Speaker 01

  Yeah, best best years.

• 1:03:11Drew Afualo?

I'm so glad to be in my thirties. I was so sick of being twenty nine.

• 1:03:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:15Drew Afualo?

Cause I literally, oh thank you.

• 1:03:16Speaker 01

  What an awkward age, right?

• 1:03:17Drew Afualo?

I know, well, this feels like I'm holding on to my twenties.

• 1:03:19Speaker 01

  It does.

• 1:03:20Drew Afualo?

I wish I like skipped from twenty eight to thirty.

• 1:03:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:22Drew Afualo?

Cause twenty nine, I was like, I'm twenty nine.

• 1:03:24Speaker 01

Yeah, it's like, oh, well, talk to me next year, when you when you know everything.

• 1:03:28Drew Afualo?

I literally have, I, cause my birthday's in September, I started telling people I was thirty in January.

• 1:03:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, as you should.

• 1:03:33Drew Afualo?

I was like, oh, I'm I'm thirty. Like, I just started saying it, cause I was like, whatever.

• 1:03:36Speaker 01

It's there, I can see it. I'm so close.

• 1:03:39Drew Afualo?

  It's right there.

• 1:03:39Speaker 01

It's right there. No, thirties are the best.

• 1:03:42Drew Afualo?

Period. I'm excited to keep going through them. Okay, I have a couple more fun facts.

• 1:03:46Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:03:46Drew Afualo?

This one says, you had to go through extensive rock climbing training for your role in the movie The Sound.

• 1:03:53Speaker 01

So I, yes, I, well, I rock climbed, um, I mean, listen, we lie all the time on auditions. Do you know how many times, like, I've gone out for fucking, like, a baseball movie? I'm like, nah, I've been doing baseball.

• 1:04:04Drew Afualo?

  Baseball's my life.

• 1:04:04Speaker 01

I've been doing this shit my whole life. And then you get off that audition, you call, you go, hey, I need a favor. Six months of training right now, let's go, little leagues. Um, when that audition came about, I'm like, no, I, I, like, for real, rock climb. So, um.

• 1:04:19Drew Afualo?

  Boulder?

• 1:04:20Speaker 01

  A boulder and rock climb.

• 1:04:21Drew Afualo?

  Nice.

• 1:04:22Speaker 01

I used to climb at Malibu Creek outdoors and then honestly, just like, in, would go to, I lived above Ascender one, uh, a couple of years ago, so I would go there all the time.

• 1:04:32Drew Afualo?

  True.

• 1:04:33Speaker 01

Um, what was crazy about that job is I was supposed to do a lot more climbing for that job. What ended up happening is I had X amount of shoot days in Vegas. And the, my second day shooting, we knew that the actor strikes were gonna happen.

• 1:04:53Drew Afualo?

  Oh, damn.

• 1:04:53Speaker 01

So they were like, we need to finish every single scene in the film today.

• 1:04:58Drew Afualo?

  Shit.

• 1:04:59Speaker 01

And, cause tomorrow you can't work. And I was booked, I had already booked another film, so they were like, we can't even move, like, even if this ends, we can't even pick up any shots. Um, so it wasn't, ended up not being that extensive. What was hard is I was possessed in that, I became possessed in that film. And, uh, essentially, I had to, like, scale the the side of a of a mountain. And I'm like a dick when it comes to like my dream genre is action comedy like I want to be a female Deadpool that's like my dream role.

• 1:05:33Drew Afualo?

  T.

• 1:05:34Speaker 01

Um, and I want to do my own stunts.

• 1:05:36Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:36Speaker 01

So when I had a call with everybody, they were like, well, we're gonna do a stunt person. I was like, fuck a stunt person. I'm doing every stunt. And my team at the time is like, dude, they don't have the insurance for that. Like you're gonna be, I'm like, fuck it. Get the insurance. Um, whatever the stunt is, I'm doing it. And harness work, like even if you're athletic, harness work, I have so much respect for stunt people that do harness work.

• 1:05:56Drew Afualo?

God, did you just have a wedgie for 12 hours?

• 1:05:58Speaker 01

Well, no, you know what it was? I had to, because I was scaling a wall sideways, I got harnessed from my side. So I was in an oblique crunch for like an hour.

• 1:06:07Drew Afualo?

  Oh, God.

• 1:06:07Speaker 01

Having to like run on this and I left with all these bruises. And it's funny, one of the girls, there's like a BTS video of one of the girls and she's like, yo, I know Christina's in so much pain right now, but she's not complaining because she's from Boston.

• 1:06:22Speaker 01

And I was, I was in so much pain. They were like, you good? I'm like.

• 1:06:25Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, you're.

• 1:06:26Speaker 01

Shit's easy. And then next time I was like, yo, next time, let the stunt people stunt, but yeah.

• 1:06:31Drew Afualo?

Okay. You want to do action comedy like?

• 1:06:33Speaker 01

  Love action comedy.

• 1:06:34Drew Afualo?

So like superhero specific or even like?

• 1:06:36Speaker 01

  I mean, listen, I'll, I'll.

• 1:06:38Drew Afualo?

  Or anything.

• 1:06:39Speaker 01

I'll go for whatever. I want to play like a, I always say kick ass. Like I would love to play like a grown kick ass, just cutting people up with katanas. Doing backflips off cars, but then also being funny, you know?

• 1:06:50Drew Afualo?

We should do like a new Hobbs and Shaw.

• 1:06:53Speaker 01

  Oh, love.

• 1:06:54Drew Afualo?

You're Jason Statham, I'm The Rock.

• 1:06:56Speaker 01

  Let's.

• 1:06:56Drew Afualo?

  Obviously the looks are uncanny.

• 1:06:57Speaker 01

I had a, I, my original pitch was gonna be The Rock and the Pebble. And I was gonna be the Pebble and I would be The Rock's like little sidekick.

• 1:07:04Drew Afualo?

  There you go.

• 1:07:05Speaker 01

  And we would do adventures.

• 1:07:06Drew Afualo?

And I'm built like The Rock, so it's same.

• 1:07:07Speaker 01

Listen, we can, well, we can write something in, we can make it work.

• 1:07:10Drew Afualo?

We'll have teams, we'll have teams talk.

• 1:07:11Speaker 01

  We'll have our people talk.

• 1:07:12Drew Afualo?

Have you seen Hobbs and Shaw? Action comedy?

• 1:07:14Speaker 01

No, but I, but I know it.

• 1:07:15Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:16Speaker 01

It'd be great. We need more, um, action comedy though.

• 1:07:19Drew Afualo?

  I love them.

• 1:07:20Speaker 01

  Me too.

• 1:07:21Drew Afualo?

I, it's funny because Hobbs and Shaw at this point is like a hallmark of the show. I talk about it so often as if I'm not passionate about it. I guess you could say I am. My dream in that kind of vein would be like a buddy comedy, like a cop one, almost like The Heat.

• 1:07:33Speaker 01

  Yeah, I love The Heat.

• 1:07:35Drew Afualo?

Me too. I would love to do some shit like that.

• 1:07:37Speaker 01

Oh, I love, I fucking, the Heat is incredible.

• 1:07:40Drew Afualo?

I know, and nobody gets that movie like, like we do.

• 1:07:43Speaker 01

And I, I mean, I was gonna say, that whole scene when they're in Boston, like, the fucking Knox, I quote that scene all, and everyone's like, what are you talking? She's just being Boston, just let her do whatever she's doing.

• 1:07:52Drew Afualo?

That whole, that whole series. You still in Bibles or something?

• 1:07:55Speaker 01

Yeah, oh my god, it's a mess.

• 1:07:55Drew Afualo?

  I love that movie.

• 1:07:58Speaker 01

  It's so good.

• 1:07:59Drew Afualo?

Oh my god, Melissa McCarthy, she's my.

• 1:08:01Speaker 01

Oh yeah, same. And also, Sandra Bullock, though, she's a badass, like, she's like OG action comedy. Well, then I started getting pissed, because I was like.

• 1:08:08Drew Afualo?

  A Miss Congeniality with you?

• 1:08:10Speaker 01

  Dude.

• 1:08:11Drew Afualo?

  That would kill.

• 1:08:12Speaker 01

  Dead.

• 1:08:12Drew Afualo?

  That would, that's so cute.

• 1:08:13Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Like, I just, I, I always say, this, my, my pitch always used to be like, oh, can, like, who is the female actress that's super funny? But also can do action?

• 1:08:26Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:27Speaker 01

And I feel like that's a little area that I can sneak into.

• 1:08:30Drew Afualo?

I think a Miss Congeniality remake with you would be badass, dude.

• 1:08:34Speaker 01

And I'm just, I just wanna be like randomly doing backflips for like, like, it's a parody of itself, like, we're just inputting.

• 1:08:40Drew Afualo?

  Okay, Benson Boone.

• 1:08:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:08:43Drew Afualo?

You're gonna be on a Benson Boone tip.

• 1:08:45Speaker 01

It's Benson Boone just popping out of nowhere, does a backflip, and I'm like, yeah, everybody's under arrest.

• 1:08:50Drew Afualo?

  There's the action comedy.

• 1:08:52Speaker 01

That honestly, that would sell, yeah. That's hilarious.

• 1:08:55Drew Afualo?

Okay, last fun fact, uh, your first acting credit was for Girl at a Party in the live action. Cat in the Hat movie?

• 1:09:02Speaker 01

Wait, hold on, I was actually gonna bring this up, okay. I was never in Cat in the Hat.

• 1:09:05Drew Afualo?

  No, you weren't?

• 1:09:07Speaker 01

Listen to this, T, okay? Listen to this. When I was a child, when I was in all that, all of a sudden, my IMDB was like, Girl at the Party, Cat in the Hat. Fucking love Cat in the Hat. And then, this, before AI, I was like, am I AI'd into this movie? So I remember I went home, and me and my mom watched the movie, and then we watched the party scene, and we would rewind it, and rewind it, and we're looking around, I'm like, what the fuck? It's like Paris Hilton's in it? To this day, people come up to me and they're like, "I loved you in Cat in the Hat."

• 1:09:39Drew Afualo?

What, do they think you're Dakota Fanning?

• 1:09:40Speaker 01

  I don't fucking know.

• 1:09:42Drew Afualo?

I think they think you're Dakota Fanning.

• 1:09:43Speaker 01

But like, here's the thing, like, I'll take the extra IMDB credit.

• 1:09:46Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:09:47Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Like, especially when I was trying to act, I'm like, "I'll be girl at the party." Like, fuck, throw that shit on my, throw that shit on my star meter. Yes, I was her. I never was in Cat in the Hat. And to this day, people are like, "Great work in Cat in the Hat."

• 1:09:58Drew Afualo?

  Girl at a party?

• 1:09:59Speaker 01

And I, I play it, I'm like, "Thanks, man." Like, yeah, give me the fucking credit. I was never in that shit.

• 1:10:04Drew Afualo?

  Girl at a party?

• 1:10:05Speaker 01

Not even a name, too. Girl at the party. I'm like, maybe they think I'm Paris Hilton, I don't know, but I was 10. Like, that was the only girl at the party, was Paris Hilton.

• 1:10:14Drew Afualo?

  That movie's so funny, too.

• 1:10:15Speaker 01

  Dude, it's a great movie!

• 1:10:16Drew Afualo?

I would, I would expect you'd be in that movie.

• 1:10:18Speaker 01

That's why I was like, "You know what? Keep it. I'm not even gonna refute it, IMDB, because that's a good fucking movie."

• 1:10:23Drew Afualo?

  And it's probably true, I don't know.

• 1:10:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, I mean, I don't know, maybe I'm CGI'd into there, I don't fucking know.

• 1:10:27Drew Afualo?

  I don't remember.

• 1:10:28Speaker 01

Yeah, I wear glasses, I can't. Speaking of, I had, I had like a recent idea, I'm like, "Instead of an obstacle course, we should just do an optical course." Everybody takes off their glasses. Everybody just takes off their glasses and just go.

• 1:10:38Drew Afualo?

  I have terrible vision.

• 1:10:40Speaker 01

  You're wearing contacts?

• 1:10:40Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, I have clear contacts, but like, I, I truly like...

• 1:10:44Speaker 01

Like, what are, what are you working with?

• 1:10:46Drew Afualo?

  I'm, I think I'm a negative like, 1.8, I think, in one, and then a negative like, 2.

• 1:10:53Speaker 01

  Is that astigmatism?

• 1:10:54Drew Afualo?

Yeah. I do have one of those. My vision is so dogshit, like, and when I was in high school, I used to literally be like, "I only need to wear my glasses to drive at night." That's not true.

• 1:11:04Speaker 01

  No, it's not.

• 1:11:05Drew Afualo?

The fact that I was free balling to school, it's anyone's guess how I got there. But I literally was like, "I only need those at night." And I remember, like, I wore glasses my whole life, I was actually just like, not seeing anything, ever. And my mom, like, my teacher told my mom, "I think she needs glasses," because I was like, always like, squinting. And she asked me, "What do you do in school when you can't read the board?" And I said, "I just ask the person next to me what it says." And I've done that my whole life, I'm like, "Can you tell me what that says?" And even when I go to restaurants, like, and there's menus up there, and I don't have my contacts in, my sister goes, "This is what the menu says," and she like, explains it to me.

• 1:11:39Speaker 01

Wait, um, but do you like wearing contacts? Because I feel like, it's so hard, like, I feel like my vision's better when I have my glasses.

• 1:11:44Drew Afualo?

I don't mind wearing contacts, because when I went to college, I went to school in Hawaii, and like, wearing my glasses, they would fog up.

• 1:11:51Speaker 01

Okay, I was gonna say, yeah.

• 1:11:52Drew Afualo?

Because I'm, I'm a sweaty ass bitch. So I was like, "Fuck, I gotta start wearing my contacts all the time now."

• 1:11:56Speaker 01

Can you get Lasik if you have astigmatism?

• 1:11:58Drew Afualo?

Um, I think they don't recommend it because it'll come back. I'm too afraid to do that, to be honest. I'm like, I'll wear contacts and glasses for the rest of my life.

• 1:12:05Speaker 01

Yeah, are you wearing dailies or you, what are you doing with these?

• 1:12:07Drew Afualo?

  I do monthlies.

• 1:12:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:12:08Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so like, and I do have glasses and it's funny because the glasses I have now, well, I had two pairs and I lost my favorite pair. And the other, the only pair I have left, which is, I need them, right? Like when I don't want to wear my contacts. They are so ugly and I don't know what I was thinking when I was in the glasses store. I don't know if something came over me and I was like, let me try a new style. I'm a dumbass, but they literally look identical to the glasses that the babysitter in the Cat in the Hat live action movie wears.

• 1:12:33Speaker 01

Are those the big circle ones?

• 1:12:34Drew Afualo?

Yeah, the big giant square Coke bottle looking ones.

• 1:12:37Speaker 01

I don't know, kind of iconic.

• 1:12:38Drew Afualo?

I, they look identical to the babysitter from the Cat in the Hat, which is.

• 1:12:41Speaker 01

You want my credit? Let's put you in the fucking IMDB.

• 1:12:44Drew Afualo?

  I'm the babysitter.

• 1:12:45Speaker 01

  I'm the babysitter.

• 1:12:46Drew Afualo?

I'm the old woman babysitter and you're a girl at the party.

• 1:12:49Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:12:49Drew Afualo?

  It's perfect.

• 1:12:50Speaker 01

Checks out to me. Sounds like a great Hollywood flick.

• 1:12:54Drew Afualo?

Well, well, to close this out.

• 1:12:56Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:12:56Drew Afualo?

Do you have any advice for any aspiring actors and or creators who maybe want to try acting but might be a little nervous about it? For what I think are obvious reasons.

• 1:13:06Speaker 01

I mean, listen, I, I, I really have hated my whole life when people say like, stay authentic. Because I'm like, what does that mean? Like, how can I be anything else other than myself?

• 1:13:18Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:13:19Speaker 01

But I think it's very easy when you are an artist to let your ego get involved. And to let the rejection, um,

• 1:13:33Speaker 01

change how you make art or why you make art or what kind of art you make. And the second you start making art for other people, other than yourself, your job is not going to be sustainable. And I think understanding and accepting that no and rejection and people challenging what you do is meaning that you're on the right path.

• 1:13:55Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:56Speaker 01

And if you can just find ways to remind yourself why you love doing what you do. And only create for yourself, that's the only way to have longevity and to to not fall out of love with the thing that you do. And the reality is, is you only need one fucking person to like you.

• 1:14:12Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 1:14:13Speaker 01

You only need one yes, you don't need everybody to like you, you don't need everybody to understand you, you just need one person to believe in you.

• 1:14:19Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:14:19Speaker 01

And put your energy into those people that don't make you feel like you have to change who you are to do what you do.

• 1:14:24Drew Afualo?

  That's so true.

• 1:14:25Speaker 01

  Yeah, put that shit.

• 1:14:26Drew Afualo?

It's very like Lady Gaga, ninety-nine people could not believe in you.

• 1:14:29Speaker 01

Oh, her same, her same, she, I'll tell you what though, she commits to that bit, man.

• 1:14:33Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's fucking, it's true though.

• 1:14:35Speaker 01

  It's true, it's true.

• 1:14:35Drew Afualo?

And I've said even, even doing this, like, the other things I've branched off and done outside of social. Sometimes my team will be like, well, you know, sometimes it doesn't really work that way, sometimes we don't, and I'm like, that's okay, let's just try it. Cause I believe in me, that's why I was like, I just need fifteen minutes of their time, I promise you they're gonna wanna work with me.

• 1:14:52Speaker 01

  One hundred percent.

• 1:14:53Drew Afualo?

I'm always like, you gotta meet me in person.

• 1:14:55Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's, I, totally.

• 1:14:57Drew Afualo?

You need to experience my aura in person.

• 1:14:58Speaker 01

And you really, and you really have to like, um, I, what I really regret, I try not to regret anything, but I've recently talked about this on social. What I, what I really regret about the time that I just committed to being an actor.

• 1:15:11Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:15:12Speaker 01

I really regret that I didn't take the no's as a sign that it was just a redirection.

• 1:15:19Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:15:19Speaker 01

And I was, I always let my ego get involved and every no, like, made me feel like I'm not good enough. How can I turn your no to a yes, when in reality, I'm not supposed to be over there.

• 1:15:30Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you're like, that wasn't meant for me.

• 1:15:32Speaker 01

I'm supposed to be over here and I'm wasting so much time, and the second, I started being like, okay, if it's not meant for me, fuck it, I'm gonna go over here. That's when like, so much stuff opened.

• 1:15:41Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 1:15:42Speaker 01

So don't be afraid of the no's, it's like, part of where you're going.

• 1:15:44Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's like, what's meant for me will be for me.

• 1:15:47Speaker 01

One hundred percent, and follow your fucking gut, if something feels weird, it's weird.

• 1:15:49Drew Afualo?

Tea, that's so true, I, and I've said before, sometimes when people are like, oh, how'd you know, like, when you, you know, made it, like, got signed, that kinda thing. Um, like, what changed, and I was like, honestly, nothing changed, nobody wanted to touch me forever, because of how controversial I was and contentious I was. And then I got too big to ignore.

• 1:16:08Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:16:08Drew Afualo?

I said, that's how I did it, I said, make your own path, like, that's.

• 1:16:11Speaker 01

You get to a point where like you can either get on this shit or you can watch me sail into the sunset.

• 1:16:17Drew Afualo?

And look at you, girl. You took that shit. You're like, fuck this. I'm gonna do it myself.

• 1:16:21Speaker 01

  Oh, and it's so empowering.

• 1:16:22Drew Afualo?

And it worked out even better.

• 1:16:23Speaker 01

It's so empowering to say no.

• 1:16:25Drew Afualo?

  T, well, I'm so happy.

• 1:16:26Speaker 01
