Give it up for Nate Bargatze, everybody. Let's go. Let's go.

• 2:13Speaker 03

You know, all I asked was you to read the Carson Daly one. And you did, and so I appreciate that.

• 2:19Speaker 02

  He goes above and beyond.

• 2:21Speaker 03

Yeah, I go, at least do Carson Daly.

• 2:22H. Foley?

  Plus one service, baby.

• 2:23Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 2:24Speaker 02

It's always, it's always funny to see a comic go, oh, they're doing, oh, that's a new, ah, they're doing everything. All right.

• 2:30Speaker 03

  You start now.

• 2:31Speaker 02

And then you go, are you messing with me right now? Is this, yeah.

• 2:33Speaker 03

  Conan, Maren, Maren's TV show.

• 2:38Speaker 02

  That was a good show.

• 2:39Speaker 03

  It was a good show.

• 2:40Speaker 02

That was a really good show.

• 2:41Speaker 03

  It was a great show.

• 2:41H. Foley?

That's when I was like, and the first time I saw him act was in an episode of Louie, and he was great. He just had one small scene.

• 2:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 2:48H. Foley?

  Great actor, man.

• 2:49Speaker 03

That's all I've done is, uh, Maren is the only.

• 2:52Speaker 02

  Acting.

• 2:53Speaker 03

  Acting.

• 2:53Speaker 02

  Credit.

• 2:54Speaker 03

Yeah, until, and if you, I don't know if you count SNL, but it's like SNL.

• 2:57Speaker 02

But you were, I mean, yeah.

• 2:58Speaker 03

But it would be, yeah, that was it.

• 3:00H. Foley?

  Two monsters.

• 3:01Speaker 02

  Did you play yourself, though?

• 3:02Speaker 03

  In Maren?

• 3:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 3:05Speaker 03

It was actually this. I was doing a podcast interview, so it was, it was not far.

• 3:11H. Foley?

  Easy money.

• 3:12Speaker 03

  Exactly this.

• 3:13Speaker 02

He's got a lot of range.

• 3:13Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess Scott's good.

• 3:16H. Foley?

He'll be doing Hamlet this fall. Uh, give us the backstory, brother. Give us the origin story of Nate Bargatze.

• 3:22Speaker 02

  Nashville kid, right?

• 3:23Speaker 03

Nashville, yeah. Born and raised Old Hickory. Uh, like, grew up there.

• 3:27Speaker 02

All southern guys always got Old, yeah, the specific town, yeah.

• 3:30Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 3:30Speaker 02

  Old Hickory.

• 3:31Speaker 03

Old Hickory. Uh, so grew up there, uh, like, I don't know how far back you, like, you know, went to.

• 3:38H. Foley?

  Hit me.

• 3:38Speaker 02

  Yeah, so, yeah, so.

• 3:40Speaker 03

  Went to school.

• 3:40Speaker 02

  Okay, there's.

• 3:41Speaker 03

  I did the school thing.

• 3:42Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 3:43Speaker 03

  Everybody was doing that.

• 3:44Speaker 02

  That was.

• 3:45Speaker 03

And, uh, uh, you know, tried to go to college, well, I, I mean, I joke about it, but no community college for a year.

• 3:52Speaker 02

Were you a good student or no?

• 3:53Speaker 03

  No.

• 3:53Speaker 02

  Even as a younger kid?

• 3:54Speaker 03

I think I was a good student up until, I'm trying to figure it out. I saw, fell down a cliff when I was 12.

• 3:59Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 3:59Speaker 03

And, uh, into Old Hickory Lake. And I was like, really good up to the end, like, 7th grade, I won all the awards, like, education awards.

• 4:10H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 4:11Speaker 03

The, you know, the big time, science award, like, real deal stuff.

• 4:14H. Foley?

I thought you were gonna say you got smart after that accident.

• 4:16Speaker 03

No, I think it went the other way.

• 4:18H. Foley?

  Like a phenomenon thing?

• 4:19Speaker 03

Yeah, it did, but the other way.

• 4:23Speaker 03

It was, and then after that, it was just like, I only got perfectly tended.

• 4:27H. Foley?

How hurt did you get when you fell on the cliff, unconscious?

• 4:29Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I don't remember the whole day.

• 4:31H. Foley?

  No kidding, really?

• 4:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:32Speaker 02

What were you doing on top of the, were you?

• 4:34Speaker 03

We would always climb down this, it was not like a straight drop, it was like, kinda like an angle. And so we would always go down it, uh, you know, just go to the, like, you're being kids. And so one day I just slipped, it was like 60 feet. And then a dude, I've talked about it, I've told a story about it on stage, but it's like, then I landed in the water, they, a guy found me. They, ambulance, the whole thing.

• 4:56Speaker 02

  No way.

• 4:57H. Foley?

  But you were by yourself?

• 4:58Speaker 03

I was with two other people, they went and got help.

• 5:00H. Foley?

  Oh, okay.

• 5:00Speaker 03

And then, so, yeah, but there, but when they left, there happened to be two people fishing right over there.

• 5:06Speaker 02

  It saw ya.

• 5:07Speaker 03

And then went over there, and the story, one of those guys that carried me up, uh, my dad did a, my dad's a magician, did a show in, uh, a prison, and one of the guys that carried me up met him, was like...

• 5:18H. Foley?

  He was in the can?

• 5:19Speaker 03

  He was in the can.

• 5:20H. Foley?

  What?

• 5:20Speaker 03

Yeah, and he said, yeah, cause he was like, once my dad said his name, he's like, he goes, my dad would talk about me. He goes, I carried him up, and then they've been...

• 5:30H. Foley?

  Get me out of here!

• 5:31Speaker 03

He's been following me since then. There's a great chance he listens to this podcast. I'll leave this podcast.

• 5:36H. Foley?

  That's nuts.

• 5:37Speaker 02

  Guy saved your life!

• 5:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 5:38H. Foley?

I wonder what he was doing on the...

• 5:39Speaker 03

The joke was that someone in the can would only listen to your guys.

• 5:43Speaker 03

They only knows where you guys exist, he doesn't know there's anybody above it.

• 5:47H. Foley?

  Wait, there's more podcasts?

• 5:48Speaker 03

  He goes, what a second.

• 5:50Speaker 02

  We're making the penitentiary service.

• 5:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 5:52H. Foley?

I wonder what they were doing on the, at the thing, they could've been doing something shady. And then saw you, and then...

• 5:57Speaker 03

  Could've been.

• 5:58H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 5:58Speaker 03

Yeah, you know what, I did not ask that. Yeah, yeah, I don't, I don't know what they, yeah, they threw one body in. And then they go, well, might as well even it out.

• 6:07H. Foley?

Get the kid, grab the kid.

• 6:08Speaker 03

Get to grab the kid and grab the kid.

• 6:10H. Foley?

Might be worth a couple of bucks.

• 6:11Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 6:13H. Foley?

Was your dad always a professional magician from the time that you were born?

• 6:17Speaker 02

  And clown.

• 6:17Speaker 03

And clown. He was a clown. Till I was about, he would do a clown, twelve, always did magic though, but he did, he would dresses, he would do a clown. Until about twelve, then he stopped being a clown, just did the magic.

• 6:28H. Foley?

Just did magic. And this is local entertainment in Old Hickory?

• 6:31Speaker 03

Uh, no, he would, no, yeah.

• 6:33Speaker 02

  They regional.

• 6:34Speaker 03

He'd go on the road a little bit. There's a lot of magic conventions that they do.

• 6:39Speaker 02

I have to say, one of the first are you garbage questions are, is are you related to a clown?

• 6:43H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 6:43Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 6:44Speaker 02

It was one of the original AYG questions.

• 6:46Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah. The most related.

• 6:48Speaker 02

  The most.

• 6:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 6:50H. Foley?

You said that like you wanted a check, like, ah.

• 6:51Speaker 03

Yeah, alright. Uh, well, I should get a point. Do I get a?

• 6:55Speaker 02

Yeah, it's not a good point.

• 6:56Speaker 03

It's not, oh, it's not a good point?

• 6:57Speaker 02

  It's not a good point.

• 6:58Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 6:59H. Foley?

  What did your mom do?

• 7:00Speaker 03

Uh, she worked at a bank and then, uh, you know, would be at home. She cleaned houses for at one point.

• 7:06H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 7:07Speaker 03

  Uh, just stuff like that.

• 7:09H. Foley?

So your dad was supporting everybody doing this?

• 7:12Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, but he was, he would always, oh, yeah.

• 7:15H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 7:15Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 7:16Speaker 02

  What was the house like?

• 7:18Speaker 03

  My house?

• 7:18Speaker 02

Yeah, was it like an apartment, a condo?

• 7:20Speaker 03

We had an apartment and then we had a duplex.

• 7:22H. Foley?

You had an apartment in Old Hickory?

• 7:24Speaker 03

Well, I don't, I don't know if we were exactly in Old Hickory, but yeah, there was an apartment, yeah, but we, there was apartment complexes in Old Hickory.

• 7:30H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 7:31Speaker 03

And then, uh, then we lived in a duplex that was in Old Hickory. And then we finally, they bought, when they first bought the house, I was probably ten or eleven, and it was just a two bedroom house. I have a brother and a little sister.

• 7:43H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 7:44Speaker 03

We were, I just found this out because I asked my mom, because they was doing another interview. And they were talking about how I grew up or whatever. So they was like, are you middle class? And then I called my mom and I was, we were lower middle class. So we weren't food stamps. We were just whatever's right above it.

• 8:00H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 8:00Speaker 03

We weren't middle class, you know, I think we eventually got to.

• 8:03H. Foley?

You're talking to two of them right now.

• 8:03Speaker 03

Yeah, I know. You got to, we eventually, maybe my parents got to middle class, but it would have been when I was gone and then my sister, yeah.

• 8:10H. Foley?

And how far apart is your brother and sister?

• 8:12Speaker 03

My brother's three years younger. My sister's about ten.

• 8:15H. Foley?

  Ten years younger?

• 8:16Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 8:16H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 8:16Speaker 03

So she grew up kind of like, you know, I was, I was gone, yeah.

• 8:21H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 8:21Speaker 03

Well, then I was, me and my brother were out. So then it's just one child. And then, yeah, you know, as gradually as your parents. Get their ground.

• 8:29Speaker 02

Yeah, they just started doing it a little better.

• 8:30Speaker 03

They started doing it a little better.

• 8:31H. Foley?

Okay, what were the vacations like when you were a kid? Where would you guys go?

• 8:34Speaker 03

  I mean, there was.

• 8:35Speaker 02

  New Hickory?

• 8:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 8:39Speaker 03

There was not really many vacations.

• 8:41H. Foley?

  Nothing in the summer?

• 8:43Speaker 03

Nah, we wouldn't take regular vacations, but we would, if we did do some, we didn't do them a lot. We'd go to Kings Island. It's a theme park in Ohio. Uh, Kings Island, once we drove to St. Louis, saw the arch.

• 8:58H. Foley?

  Turned around, went home?

• 8:59Speaker 03

Turned around, came back, basically, turned around, went home. Uh, and that was the kind of it. We'd go either there, that I can remember. We never really went to Florida, never really went to, I mean, we couldn't never really afford, I mean, uh, you just, we couldn't, like, we weren't a big, you know, people talk about going on vacation, like, growing up, I was like, I just didn't, they're like, oh, we go to Florida every summer, you're like, I mean, there was never any of that.

• 9:23H. Foley?

Anything steady. Was the first time you were on a plane? Cause I assume none of those vacations you were flying anywhere, right?

• 9:29Speaker 03

No, no, no, we drove everywhere. Uh, hours, uh, we go Chattanooga too, about two hours.

• 9:36H. Foley?

  Okay, alright.

• 9:37Speaker 03

  That's a big one.

• 9:38H. Foley?

  You should open with that.

• 9:39Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, that's.

• 9:40Speaker 02

  Lead with the show.

• 9:41H. Foley?

  Money bag?

• 9:42Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, he goes, yeah, rolling, dude.

• 9:45H. Foley?

And is there family in the general Old Hickory area, like, your dad's brother, anybody?

• 9:49Speaker 03

Lot of them live in Louisville, Kentucky.

• 9:51H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 9:52Speaker 03

And, uh, but then I've had a lot in Nashville, so my, uh, grandmother, my, uh, dad's mom.

• 10:01H. Foley?

  Uh huh.

• 10:02Speaker 03

Lived in Nashville, ran away to Louisville, Kentucky.

• 10:04H. Foley?

  Ran away?

• 10:05Speaker 03

  Ran away.

• 10:05Speaker 02

What do you mean by ran away, like?

• 10:06Speaker 03

  Just ran away.

• 10:07Speaker 02

  Like, from her family?

• 10:08Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, from her family.

• 10:09H. Foley?

When she was young, not when you were, okay.

• 10:11Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, no, when she was young, yeah, as a, yeah, seventy-five, at seventy-five.

• 10:15H. Foley?

  That's it, I'm leaving!

• 10:16Speaker 03

Yeah, that's it, he goes, I can't take it anymore.

• 10:20H. Foley?

This one's falling down cliffs, get out of here.

• 10:22Speaker 03

Silver alert, and we just couldn't find her, we were like, I don't know where she's at.

• 10:26Speaker 02

  That's a deep shot.

• 10:26Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, so, uh.

• 10:28Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 10:29Speaker 03

We go, she goes to Louisville, uh, then she gets married, raises kids there, my dad, my dad had a very rough upbringing, and then, uh, they get married, or my mom, then my dad runs away from Louisville to Nashville.

• 10:44H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 10:45Speaker 03

And then, so that's how we ended up back in Nashville.

• 10:47H. Foley?

  Oh.

• 10:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:48H. Foley?

How did your mom and dad meet?

• 10:49Speaker 03

  They met in seventh grade.

• 10:51H. Foley?

  What?

• 10:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:52H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 10:53Speaker 03

  That's crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 10:55H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 10:55Speaker 03

  So.

• 10:55H. Foley?

  Seventh grade sweethearts.

• 10:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:57H. Foley?

  All the way through.

• 10:58Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah, my dad would be great on this, too. Like, he would be.

• 11:02Speaker 02

  Yeah, he ran away.

• 11:03Speaker 03

  He ran away.

• 11:04Speaker 02

  He's a clown.

• 11:05Speaker 03

  He's a clown, yeah.

• 11:07Speaker 02

  He's a perfect guess.

• 11:08Speaker 03

  He's the champ.

• 11:09Speaker 02

We only booked you to get to your dad, if we're being honest with you.

• 11:12H. Foley?

And what were your, so you weren't good in school. What was the sports situation? Did you, did you play?

• 11:17Speaker 03

Yeah, I played sports growing up. Uh, base, you know, baseball was probably the most consistent. Uh, played till I was 13. And then, uh, after, like, after about that, I played basketball, but I got cut every year from my high school basketball team. So.

• 11:32Speaker 02

It's got tenacity, though. It keeps going back.

• 11:34Speaker 03

It keeps going back. I played for my church.

• 11:37Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 11:37H. Foley?

  Church had a basketball team?

• 11:39Speaker 03

Yeah, church had a basketball team. Uh, yeah, there's, church basketball was like, kind of a thing.

• 11:43H. Foley?

Oh, I know what you mean, like CYO league. Or, that's what we have in our area. Catholic youth league, okay.

• 11:49Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, yeah. Ours was Nashville Baptist Association.

• 11:52H. Foley?

  There you go.

• 11:52Speaker 03

  The NBA. And, so.

• 11:55Speaker 02

  That's pretty good.

• 11:56Speaker 03

We, yeah, I played church. I was graded in church basketball.

• 12:01Speaker 02

You were good on that team?

• 12:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:02Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 12:02Speaker 03

I should have made the team at some point in my high school, I think, at least one year. I should have got thrown a bone, bone. First year, uh, my dad was the assistant coach. Still did not make it.

• 12:12H. Foley?

  Jesus.

• 12:13Speaker 03

  Yeah. He cut me.

• 12:13H. Foley?

It's a cutthroat clown right there.

• 12:15Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 12:16H. Foley?

You don't mess around. Cut your dad, cut you.

• 12:19Speaker 02

  That's crazy.

• 12:20Speaker 03

And then after, so then after that, the coaches kept the tradition and then cut me the rest of the.

• 12:25H. Foley?

So you would go home after school and then he would come home a couple hours later from basketball practice?

• 12:29Speaker 02

  He's got a big trophy.

• 12:30Speaker 03

Yeah, he'd have a big trophy. Yeah, yeah. Here, here's what, you know, fun little thing, though, I'll tell you. Uh, I gave my, high, because my high school's my only alumni. So.

• 12:41Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 12:41Speaker 03

I gave my high school money and my name is on the court now.

• 12:44Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 12:45Speaker 03

  Are you kidding me?

• 12:46Speaker 02

  That's a baller move.

• 12:49Speaker 03

  So, we're, we're in there.

• 12:50H. Foley?

Is it, wait, is it, is it the Nate Bargatze basketball court? So, over at, uh, Bargatze Courts?

• 12:57Speaker 02

Wait, we've had a lot of, we've had a lot of people coming in to do a lot of cool things. That might be the coolest thing I've heard.

• 13:02H. Foley?

I assume it was a pretty nice chunk of change. Did they redo it?

• 13:06Speaker 03

No, we, they're redoing, uh, they're building a whole thing. So they're doing a whole big building and, uh, it was announced, like, I'm not trying to act like I'm, you know,

• 13:15H. Foley?

  No, no, no.

• 13:16Speaker 03

But it's, I mean, I only gave them my high school. I don't have, you know, anything else.

• 13:19H. Foley?

  Didn't go to college?

• 13:20Speaker 03

I went to Volunteer State Community College for about a year, zero credits, all remedial classes. I got a 17 on my ACT, so.

• 13:27Speaker 02

  I don't think that's any good.

• 13:28Speaker 03

  No, it's pretty low.

• 13:29H. Foley?

I got an 870 on my SAT, so.

• 13:31Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, I didn't even do that.

• 13:34Speaker 02

I got that 17, you know what, that's it for me.

• 13:36Speaker 03

17 they go, they didn't even bother.

• 13:38H. Foley?

  That's crazy.

• 13:39Speaker 03

So I had to take all remedial classes for the first year to get.

• 13:43Speaker 02

So they didn't even count as credits?

• 13:45Speaker 03

No, because I was not even, I didn't have enough to even, I should, start. Yeah, so I had to do a full year of that. And then I went to Western Kentucky University for a semester and then failed, failed bowling. Failed everything. Yeah. Cause they, I didn't. Yeah, you know what? Not a bad bowler. I bowled a 266 too.

• 14:05Speaker 02

  Really? Can you fail?

• 14:06Speaker 03

You gotta keep score without the computers.

• 14:10Speaker 02

  So the math part.

• 14:10Speaker 03

  The math part gets dicey.

• 14:12H. Foley?

  That's crazy.

• 14:13Speaker 02

That 17 comes back into play a little bit.

• 14:16Speaker 03

That even you out. Yeah. You go, yeah, you're just wrecking these kids and then you're, and then they're like, but what's the score?

• 14:22Speaker 02

  It's all up here.

• 14:24Speaker 03

I don't know that. And they go, yeah.

• 14:26H. Foley?

Wow, man, that is wild. So, how did you?

• 14:30Speaker 03

Western Kentucky was all uphill, so our dorm rooms were at.

• 14:33Speaker 02

  I kept falling.

• 14:35H. Foley?

  You were bowling uphill?

• 14:37Speaker 03

  No, yeah, that was.

• 14:38H. Foley?

I wonder why you were losing.

• 14:39Speaker 03

I go, I can't get it there. No, the dome, the dorm was at the bottom and then to go to class, you'd have to go straight up a hill. And that was enough to be like.

• 14:47H. Foley?

  I'm with you.

• 14:48Speaker 03

I started missing a lot of.

• 14:49H. Foley?

  Yeah, I'm with you.

• 14:50Speaker 03

When you gotta get up and walk a mile up a hill, I mean, you know, you're like, am I going to college?

• 14:56H. Foley?

I would have been done too.

• 14:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:58H. Foley?

I don't hold that against you. So technically you shouldn't have graduated high school or?

• 15:02Speaker 03

Uh, I barely gra- I think I graduated because I- my dad, I think I failed a class to not graduate and then my dad, went and like talked to the teacher and was just kinda like, "Come on."

• 15:14H. Foley?

  Six clowns show up?

• 15:15Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 15:17H. Foley?

And you're gonna do what the kid wants, huh?

• 15:18Speaker 03

Yeah, move it to a D. Let's just get him out.

• 15:20Speaker 02

  Let's get him out.

• 15:20Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 15:21Speaker 02

For everybody's, if everybody involved, let's get him out.

• 15:23H. Foley?

And how big, how small of a town are we talking? What did you graduate with? How many kids?

• 15:27Speaker 03

  So, I went, I graduated fifty-six.

• 15:29Speaker 02

  What?

• 15:29Speaker 03

  And then so very small.

• 15:30Speaker 02

And you didn't make the basketball team?

• 15:38Speaker 02

  Half of them are girls.

• 15:41H. Foley?

  More than half statistically.

• 15:42Speaker 03

Yeah, but they were good. They were good.

• 15:47Speaker 03

  That makes it sound worse.

• 15:49Speaker 02

  Make good balls.

• 15:49H. Foley?

  Sky hooks all day.

• 15:51Speaker 03

I never thought about how bad it was.

• 15:52H. Foley?

  Man.

• 15:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, you got stuff, man.

• 15:57H. Foley?

Fifty, I thought you were gonna say a couple hundred. Fifty-six? Man, that is vicious. Why didn't you pick up golf? Cause you, cause you're a good golfer.

• 16:08Speaker 02

  Kick, kick, kick and shoot.

• 16:10H. Foley?

  Something.

• 16:11Speaker 03

Yeah, I was, I started playing golf probably like third, kinda when I, when I lived here, towards, uh...

• 16:17H. Foley?

  Oh, really? That late?

• 16:19Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, pretty late and then we would go play. I lived in Queens, so we'd go, uh...

• 16:22Speaker 02

  The Chipping Pot?

• 16:23Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, some stuff like that.

• 16:25H. Foley?

Where were you at in Queens?

• 16:26Speaker 03

Uh, well, I lived, we lived in Middle Village mostly.

• 16:29H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 16:29Speaker 03

And then I lived in Astoria too for a little bit.

• 16:31H. Foley?

  That's where I live now.

• 16:32Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 16:32H. Foley?

  Shout out to Astoria.

• 16:33Speaker 03

  That's the place to be.

• 16:34Speaker 02

Every, every comic comes to Astoria at least some point.

• 16:36H. Foley?

  Your parents don't live...

• 16:37Speaker 03

We had a basketball league in Astoria when I was here.

• 16:39Speaker 02

  Yeah, I mean, that's a famed basketball.

• 16:40Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 16:41H. Foley?

  You made that?

• 16:41Speaker 03

  Yeah, I made that.

• 16:42H. Foley?

  That's pretty good.

• 16:43Speaker 03

  Pretty good.

• 16:45H. Foley?

Having the court though, that's awesome.

• 16:47Speaker 03

  Yeah, that would be cool.

• 16:48H. Foley?

Having your name on the court.

• 16:49Speaker 02

  Local boy makes good.

• 16:50H. Foley?

You should make them do like a painting of you dunking.

• 16:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:53H. Foley?

  Like right in the thing.

• 16:54Speaker 02

  Over your dad or something.

• 16:55Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 16:56Speaker 02

Who was growing up, who was, before you started doing all of that, who was the most famous person you met? Could have been like a local celebrity, a radio guy.

• 21:27H. Foley?

  News guy.

• 21:28Speaker 02

Just somebody where you were like, oh, there's so and so. He was a big deal in town or in Nashville.

• 21:33Speaker 03

I remember we waited in line to meet Oral Hershizer.

• 21:37Speaker 02

  Who's that?

• 21:37H. Foley?

  Pitcher for the Dodgers.

• 21:38Speaker 03

The Dodgers, yeah. Met him at like a Sears.

• 21:41Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 21:42Speaker 03

You know, like they would sign a ball or something. We waited in line for him to do that.

• 21:45H. Foley?

That's pretty good. That was at the, is it height, right? It was in the eighties?

• 21:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:48H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 21:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:49H. Foley?

  Yeah, he was big, man.

• 21:50Speaker 03

  He was big.

• 21:51H. Foley?

Yeah, cuz he was like, he was like, he wasn't, he was like technical and like, like a nice guy, right? Man, that was kind of his thing. The other pitchers were like rough and tumble.

• 22:00Speaker 02

  What, he was a scout?

• 22:01Speaker 03

He got his, his number one fan. He goes, you think you can hook that up now? I'm like, I get, we can look at it. You wanna meet him now?

• 22:08H. Foley?

  Oral, get in here.

• 22:09Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:10H. Foley?

Got him waiting in the back.

• 22:11Speaker 03

  Oral.

• 22:12H. Foley?

  Drinking coffee.

• 22:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:15H. Foley?

Nah, I just remember from the Dodgers back in the day.

• 22:17Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 22:17Speaker 02

Uh, what was the supermarket you went to growing up?

• 22:20Speaker 03

Uh, we were, we, uh, there's, there's a Piggly Wiggly we'd go to. They're Kroger, or Kroger, I guess.

• 22:27Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 22:27H. Foley?

Which would be the better of the two?

• 22:29Speaker 03

Kroger would have been the better, yeah.

• 22:30Speaker 02

  The higher end.

• 22:31Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 22:31H. Foley?

How was your mom in the kitchen growing up? Was she?

• 22:34Speaker 03

We were not big cooks. Uh, it was like, we, food was like, I think, something we just had to get done. It was like you're starving and then you have to eat. I don't, it was not.

• 22:46Speaker 02

  Well, it wasn't celebrated.

• 22:47Speaker 03

It was not celebrated at all. It's still not celebrated to this day. And I think I have problems with food. And I'm saying cuz of that, but it's just, I don't look at food as.

• 22:57Speaker 02

You don't enjoy it, it's more the functional.

• 22:59Speaker 03

It's the functional and then, but I then put the worst in my body to function. Cause I just wanna solve the problem.

• 23:04H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 23:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 23:05H. Foley?

But would you guys sit down and have dinner every night, like after school?

• 23:08Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 23:08H. Foley?

Your mom, dad and your brother?

• 23:10Speaker 03

Nah, not, a lot of TV tray.

• 23:11H. Foley?

  A lot of TV tray.

• 23:12Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 23:14H. Foley?

So what was she making? Like what would be?

• 23:16Speaker 03

Chicken. I just remember my whole life was chicken.

• 23:17Speaker 02

  A lot of chicken.

• 23:18H. Foley?

  Chicken breast or chicken like?

• 23:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, chicken breast.

• 23:21H. Foley?

  On the bone?

• 23:22Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 23:22H. Foley?

  Chicken breast.

• 23:23Speaker 03

Yeah, chicken breast. She would make this cheesy corn that was like in crescent rolls.

• 23:28Speaker 02

  Ooh.

• 23:29H. Foley?

  That doesn't sound too bad.

• 23:30Speaker 03

  No, that was the best.

• 23:31Speaker 02

  That sounds alright.

• 23:32Speaker 03

Yeah, my daughter is, that's her favorite food. And it's, yeah, so that was, that was the best.

• 23:38H. Foley?

Cheese corn in a crescent roll?

• 23:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 23:39H. Foley?

  Ooh, I'm in.

• 23:39Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 23:40Speaker 02

It's three of my favorite things.

• 23:41Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 23:42Speaker 02

  Let's go. Huh.

• 23:43H. Foley?

  Uh, what about the bedroom?

• 23:45Speaker 02

Oh, one second, I'm sorry. Would you drink milk with dinner growing up?

• 23:48Speaker 03

Uh, we did. Uh, yeah, I believe we did. Yeah.

• 23:52Speaker 02

Were you a soda family too at all?

• 23:55Speaker 03

We have a big soda family now. We could never, we had a water rule, cause we, it just was expensive to drink soda out. So we could, we'd only could drink water when we went out, if we ever went out to eat.

• 24:06H. Foley?

  How often was that?

• 24:07Speaker 03

Not often. I mean, not often, no.

• 24:10H. Foley?

  Where would you go?

• 24:11Speaker 03

Uh, you know, it's like you go to McDonald's and stuff, or, or O'Charley's was a big one.

• 24:17H. Foley?

You got a water at McDonald's?

• 24:18Speaker 03

  I think so.

• 24:19H. Foley?

  That's criminal.

• 24:20Speaker 03

Maybe, maybe we got a Happy Meal, they, cause the spray, something would've came with it.

• 24:24Speaker 02

  Yeah, that makes sense.

• 24:24Speaker 03

But we didn't get a ton of that. And then, but, uh, yeah, but if we'd go to like, O'Charley's was a big one.

• 24:29H. Foley?

  Casual Dining Establishment?

• 24:31Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 24:31H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 24:32Speaker 03

And so they, they had great rolls.

• 24:34H. Foley?

  I'm with you.

• 24:35Speaker 03

Yeah, they messed it up. They had the most amazing rolls. And then they, uh, uh, they like changed the recipe. And it's just not even remotely the same. My buddy that's here with me, his dad worked at O'Charley's.

• 24:49H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 24:50Speaker 03

Yeah, he could, his dad could actually make the rolls. So that's why, that's why, that's why he's here. I go, I go, I need a roll guy. I go, I need a, I need the, the real deal, go back to the, you know, come on, what are we doing with what they got now?

• 25:03H. Foley?

I like it. Um, yeah, so up in the bedroom, what were the posters that you would have on your wall growing up?

• 25:08Speaker 03

Me and my brother shared a bedroom, bunk beds. Uh.

• 25:12H. Foley?

  Till when?

• 25:13Speaker 02

Were you top or bottom too?

• 25:14Speaker 03

  I was top.

• 25:15Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 25:16Speaker 03

Yeah. And then, uh, we shared till, um...

• 25:21Speaker 03

Man, uh, when, probably my freshman year in high school, we moved.

• 25:25H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 25:25Speaker 03

Uh, cause then we changed houses and the next house had a basement and my parents had them, uh, had a bedroom made in the basement.

• 25:33H. Foley?

For them or for one of you guys?

• 25:34Speaker 03

  For me.

• 25:35H. Foley?

  Really?

• 25:35Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:36H. Foley?

  You got the basement?

• 25:37Speaker 03

Yeah, they kinda finished the basement and then I got, then I got room. So that was about ninth grade when I got that.

• 25:41H. Foley?

That's not bad. How was it down there?

• 25:43Speaker 03

It was great. My, they built, they did a very cool thing. They put my bed in a wall. So the wall went in. So the mattress was just laid on the wall.

• 25:50H. Foley?

  Oh, that's pretty cool.

• 25:51Speaker 03

  Yeah. Yeah, pretty cool.

• 25:52H. Foley?

Was there an entrance down, down and out from, from there or did you have to go upstairs?

• 25:57Speaker 03

Uh, no, you could've got out from there, but I would've just go upstairs. I never like ran out or anything like that.

• 26:02H. Foley?

  No? Okay.

• 26:03Speaker 03

And so, uh, yeah. And then on the wall, I don't, I mean, I would've had a lot of Vandy stuff. I'm a big Vanderbilt fan.

• 26:09H. Foley?

  Big Vanderbilt fan.

• 26:09Speaker 03

So, uh, anything Vandy, yeah. I would've had all Vandy stuff.

• 26:14Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 26:15H. Foley?

  First concert you went to?

• 26:17Speaker 03

  Michael W. Smith.

• 26:19H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 26:20Speaker 03

  He's a Christian singer.

• 26:21H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 26:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:22H. Foley?

They were, your parents were big into the church when you were growing up?

• 26:24Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, still are.

• 26:25H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 26:26Speaker 03

Yeah. But the, yeah, so I, I grew up, I only listened to, we could only listen to like Christian music.

• 26:31H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 26:32Speaker 03

Clean music, you know, stuff like that. I'd never really heard, I'm not a good music person either because like, uh, I have a hard time, either when I listen to music, I don't know if I, I don't ever listen to the words really. So I don't ever get what, that the song's about something.

• 26:48Speaker 02

It's all about the beat, man.

• 26:49Speaker 03

It's just, yeah, I can even sing the words and they just don't mean anything to me. It doesn't get in. So I can sing, uh, I could listen to a sad song and be like, this is a pretty fun song. And it could be, cause it's not registering to me as like suicide.

• 27:04Speaker 02

Same with like food. You're just like, ah, this is functional. I'm listening to music. I'm on a plane.

• 27:08Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. Yeah. I just listen to the, yeah, it really, I don't know what they're talking about. I don't, it doesn't, I'm not even trying to figure out what they're talking about. I don't, you know.

• 27:18H. Foley?

It's a wild perspective, man. I love it.

• 27:19Speaker 03

  I know.

• 27:20H. Foley?

And what about now? Do you, is it mostly Christian music now?

• 27:23Speaker 03

No, no. Now it's just anything.

• 27:25H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 27:25Speaker 03

Uh, but I, I mean, I'd listen to, uh, Probably a lot of country now.

• 27:31H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 27:32Speaker 03

  More country.

• 27:32Speaker 02

  Very nice.

• 27:33Speaker 03

But again, I'm like, uh, music, I like, you know, whatever America likes is probably what I'm into. Like, I'm not...

• 27:44H. Foley?

You're not rocking the boat. You're cool with the waves.

• 27:45Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 27:46Speaker 02

Hey, what's out right now? I'm in.

• 27:47Speaker 03

  What's out right now? Yeah.

• 27:48Speaker 02

  This is on the radio.

• 27:49Speaker 03

The yacht rock, like, or whatever, you're like...

• 27:51Speaker 02

Everyone's decided this is good. I'm on board.

• 27:54Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 27:54Speaker 02

It's been vetted by the country. I'm in.

• 27:56Speaker 03

  I'm not finding anything.

• 27:57H. Foley?

  I respect that. Alright. Okay.

• 28:00Speaker 02

Man, you are just a straight up the middle American kid.

• 28:03Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 28:04Speaker 02

Yeah, you are, dude. I love it.

• 28:06H. Foley?

That's fine. Okay. No problem. Uh, what about your first job?

• 28:11Speaker 03

Uh, I worked at Opryland Theme Park, which is closed now. I was a sweeper. So I just worked at the... I was 15. Uh, I just swept the steps and then worked in a dog kennel. Fun little... Other than about that, uh, because it talked about the Christmas special, but my first job was at Opryland and the Christmas special was take the Grand... The Grand Ole Opry.

• 28:29Speaker 02

  Oh, Opry. Yeah.

• 28:30Speaker 03

So I've swept the steps of the Grand Ole Opry just growing up and being... Because they knocked the theme park down and then they... Now there's a mall, which everybody was pretty upset about because the theme park was awesome. And then, uh, I think about when I was in my graduate high school, they did that. And so, uh, but I worked there, uh, you know, worked in, uh, driving... I worked at a golf course, just a driving range.

• 28:54H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 28:55Speaker 02

Did you drive the cart to pick up the balls?

• 28:58Speaker 03

  Yeah, I did that.

• 28:58H. Foley?

  They go after you?

• 28:59Speaker 03

Well, yeah. And so the sides, they'd have three sides. So the three, the front and the two sides were metal. The back was a net that wasn't tied down. So when you would go with your back to it, it was like, if a ball gets in... I mean, there's no point to that net.

• 29:14Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 29:15Speaker 03

Because there was nothing. It's coming in.

• 29:17H. Foley?

That's how they got the Panzer tanks in World War II.

• 29:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, it is. Yeah.

• 29:20H. Foley?

  In the back. That's crazy.

• 29:22Speaker 03

It was, yeah. It was like, you want to be sideways. You definitely don't want to...

• 29:27Speaker 02

Got to run parallel to the...

• 29:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 29:29Speaker 02

I did it too, man. And they would... You get a group of like 21-year-old kids and they'd just put a bounty on you.

• 29:34Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:34Speaker 02

They'd be there just crap. And it hits that cage. It's like that wrought iron, dude. It sounds like you're taking mortar shells. It's crazy.

• 29:44Speaker 02

  Ah, huh, okay.

• 29:47Speaker 03

Big mover. My job, my last serious job, which I talk about on my social, I was a water meter reader.

• 29:53Speaker 02

  A water meter reader?

• 29:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:55Speaker 02

  Where at?

• 29:55H. Foley?

  Where was that? Here?

• 29:56Speaker 03

Wilson County. No, no, here. I delivered FedEx when I first moved here.

• 29:59H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 30:00Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah.

• 30:00Speaker 02

Driving a truck or like door to door, like running?

• 30:02Speaker 03

Yeah. At the, I, I, at the beginning was driving a truck.

• 30:07Speaker 02

  In Manhattan?

• 30:08Speaker 03

I did Manhattan and then Brooklyn.

• 30:10H. Foley?

That's a good gig. You're working for FedEx?

• 30:11Speaker 03

Yeah, I was a delivery guy, so I was, this is about, you had to read maps, so I was a delivery guy in Nashville too. And so when I came here, I did that. And it was a really good gig. And the, uh, cause they, they, their routes, all here, it's all about the route. So like, guys would have a route that they've had for twenty years. And then if you wanted to, you could sell the route, if you were like, I'm done. It's like, I mean, someone might pay two hundred grand.

• 30:36H. Foley?

In FedEx, you could do that?

• 30:37Speaker 03

Yeah. You could sell, you, cause you were a contractor, so you could sell that route. So if you had, uh, you know, like, Upper West Side kinda route, it's, like, that guy would just, you're, I mean, he could hire people to do it. If, when he was ready to be done, he just gets to go out and then there's a bidding war to see who gets that.

• 30:55H. Foley?

Cause I've heard of that with like Boars Head routes. I didn't know FedEx was doing it like that too.

• 30:59Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. They were back then. And then, uh, and then, so I delivered a lot here, some in Brooklyn. And then when I was, I was already started comedy, but it's like, I had nights, it would, you, it would, you'd go out till nine PM. It was like, it was hard to do shows at night.

• 31:13H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 31:14Speaker 03

So then I started just loading trucks. So I would load trucks from like five AM to ten AM. So I would just stay up. I'd go like bark and hand out flyers and, uh, the Boston Comedy Club was here and, yeah. And then, uh, just stay up and then go to FedEx and then sleep, you know, and then go back out.

• 31:31H. Foley?

  So you started here?

• 31:32Speaker 03

I was in Chicago at first.

• 31:33H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 31:34Speaker 03

For about a year and, I lived in Chicago for two years, did comedy about a year in Chicago.

• 31:38H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 31:38Speaker 03

  Like Hannibal and Kumel and...

• 31:41H. Foley?

Did you go there to do comedy?

• 31:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 31:43H. Foley?

You did. So you're like, I wanna be a comedian.

• 31:45Speaker 03

My buddy that worked at the water meter company. He wanted to go to-

• 31:49Speaker 02

He got a lot of buddies.

• 31:50Speaker 03

I got a lot of buddies. He wanted to go to Second City.

• 31:53H. Foley?

  I'd forgotten about it.

• 31:58Speaker 03

I have a joke in my act. Every job I had is just the title. The title is just the description.

• 32:03Speaker 02

  Driver, water meter meter.

• 32:07Speaker 03

But, so, uh- My buddy, uh, wanted to go to Second City.

• 32:13H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 32:13Speaker 03

And then, uh, so I was like, alright, I think I just needed, I was, I think I was scared to start at home. Alright, you know, you just didn't know what to do.

• 32:20H. Foley?

This is right after the college episode.

• 32:22Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I was like 23.

• 32:24H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 32:25Speaker 03

And then, so it was, uh, and so I wanted to go, uh, he, he's like, I wanna go to Second City. And I was like, alright, I'll just go up there. I didn't really know what Second City was, but it's obviously where SNL people came out of and all that. So I took like eight weeks class there, but I didn't really love improv and I wanted to do stand-up, so then I took a class, another stand-up class-

• 32:43H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 32:43Speaker 03

In Chicago, and then it just kinda started, and then-

• 32:46H. Foley?

  And then you came here.

• 32:47Speaker 03

Comedian came out. I started, yeah, if you watch Pete Holmes, uh, HBO show-

• 32:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 32:52Speaker 03

  I, that's, I started with Pete.

• 32:53H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 32:54Speaker 03

So I, that show was what I was doing.

• 32:57H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 32:57Speaker 02

Yeah, we came out very similar in the village.

• 32:59H. Foley?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:00Speaker 02

  Very similar stuff.

• 33:00H. Foley?

  For five years.

• 33:01Speaker 03

  Comedy Village?

• 33:02Speaker 02

  Village Lantern.

• 33:03Speaker 03

  Village Lantern.

• 33:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:04Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, I barked at the Village Lantern. I barked at the Grizzly Pear too. Before, yeah, there, uh, Village Lantern is before I met Eric Andre. First day Eric Andre came to New York.

• 33:14H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 33:14Speaker 03

I was, uh, barking at the Village Lantern, and I remember he rode up on his, on a bicycle, and he was just like, they do shows here. And I was like, yeah, they, they got shows here. He's gotta hand out flyers, and then you get, and then he was like on a commercial, uh, two hours later.

• 33:32Speaker 03

He was like the caveman or something.

• 33:36H. Foley?

  I love it.

• 33:37Speaker 02

Okay, uh, one thing I, I, I, we, I feel we missed, what was the first car, your first car?

• 33:42Speaker 03

  Uh, Mazda 626.

• 33:44H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 33:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 33:45H. Foley?

You know who else's first car that was? Mr. Rob Lowe.

• 33:48Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 33:48H. Foley?

  Mazda 626.

• 33:50Speaker 03

  Uh, 1985 Mazda 626.

• 33:53H. Foley?

What year did you get that? How'd you get your hands on that?

• 33:55Speaker 03

Uh, some of those, this is 90s.

• 33:57H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 33:57Speaker 03

So 90, yeah, I was like, I got it like 96 or something like that.

• 34:00H. Foley?

I think he had it in 85.

• 34:01Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 34:02Speaker 02

Yeah, he was, he was real cool back then.

• 34:03Speaker 03

  He got a real one.

• 34:04H. Foley?

It was his outsider's money, you said.

• 34:05Speaker 03

I maybe bought his, yeah. Ours was, someone was selling it in the neighborhood of my school and so it was like $1,200.

• 34:13H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 34:14Speaker 03

  Stick shift.

• 34:14Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 34:15Speaker 03

I had to put a tennis ball over the stick shift because it was very sticky.

• 34:19H. Foley?

That's pretty sweet, I haven't thought about that.

• 34:21Speaker 02

That is pretty good. Trashy but cool.

• 34:22Speaker 03

Yeah, it was nicknamed it Old Blue.

• 34:25H. Foley?

  Cool.

• 34:26Speaker 03

And so it worked out because I think it helped me with my, you know, because my, because I went to, so for high school, I went to a private school.

• 34:36Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 34:36Speaker 03

Went to a Christian, that's why it was a smaller Christian school. Because our, some of our public schools were getting, they were a little on the dicier side.

• 34:43H. Foley?

  Gotcha, understand.

• 34:44Speaker 03

And so, my dad was a teacher also being a, just, but he, his regular job was a teacher, so he got a job.

• 34:51H. Foley?

Okay, your dad worked as a teacher, alright.

• 34:53Speaker 03

He worked there as a teacher, that's why we got it, that's why I got to go there.

• 34:55H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 34:56Speaker 03

And then, so, but everybody there would have like Camaros and, that was not, my senior years when Mustangs switched the body style.

• 35:06H. Foley?

  To the 5.0 or whatever?

• 35:07Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, to the new.

• 35:09Speaker 02

No, from the 5.0 to the new.

• 35:10Speaker 03

To the new, yeah. And so, I mean, everybody had new cars, everybody had everything, so mine was nicknamed Old Blue. So it was a pretty popular car, even though it was the worst car.

• 35:22H. Foley?

  Banked up, yeah.

• 35:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 35:23H. Foley?

A tennis ball, I like that. Any pets growing up?

• 35:27Speaker 03

We, we had a lot of pets. I have a theory that when you don't have your money, you end up having a lot of pets. Because you don't have the most toys.

• 35:34H. Foley?

In our research, that checks out.

• 35:36Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He just needs stuff around.

• 35:39Speaker 02

  He just need more stuff.

• 35:40H. Foley?

What'd you have? Anything weird? Snakes?

• 35:42Speaker 03

  Oh, I've had a snake, a snake.

• 35:44H. Foley?

  What?

• 35:44Speaker 03

One year, that was a very, when I was 12. We had it, well, I probably had it a couple of years, what, we, it was getting, we had a red Talboa. And then we fed it up to mice and then it was like gonna get, it was like rats then rabbits.

• 35:56Speaker 02

  Yeah, it jumps.

• 35:57Speaker 03

And then that's when I think my parents were like, alright.

• 35:59Speaker 02

What do you do with that?

• 36:00Speaker 03

Uh, I just put it in the aquarium type thing.

• 36:03Speaker 02

No, when you get rid of it.

• 36:04Speaker 03

  Oh, I don't know. You know, I still don't know. I had, there's a-

• 36:08H. Foley?

Your parents just got rid of it?

• 36:10Speaker 03

  Yeah, so I-

• 36:10Speaker 02

That's in the, they put that in the woods somewhere.

• 36:12Speaker 03

I've got a few animal. So we had that, we had a tarantula when I was growing up.

• 36:18Speaker 02

  What? You've had this is-

• 36:19Speaker 03

Had a tarantula when I was a kid. It froze to death because their heat broke and we were out somewhere. And so it froze. Uh, we had a bird, few birds that got out. One, my mom like had the door open, like if you were watching, there's Andy Griffith, there's an Andy Griffith episode where Aunt Bee loses a bird. And my mom lost a bird and we had one-

• 36:39Speaker 02

Lose birds in the house or was they in a cage?

• 36:40Speaker 03

No, no, in the cage, but she was like cleaning it and it flew out. Another one flew into a frying pan.

• 36:47Speaker 02

Sounds like someone hit that bird with a frying-

• 36:48H. Foley?

What are you talking about? Was the frying pan hanging?

• 36:50Speaker 03

No, no, it was, it was going.

• 36:52H. Foley?

  It just went-

• 36:53Speaker 03

It just went into the frying-

• 36:54H. Foley?

It kamikaze into a frying pan.

• 36:55Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I had to get it out. And it was, it lived.

• 36:58Speaker 02

  Looking for heat.

• 36:59Speaker 03

Losing like half its fur. Uh, but it lived. Uh, still alive today.

• 37:04Speaker 02

  Really?

• 37:04Speaker 03

No, no, no, no. It's still good. Still doing good today?

• 37:08H. Foley?

Is it a nursing home in Old Oak Creek?

• 37:09Speaker 03

It's in Old Oak Creek. It ran off to Louisville.

• 37:13Speaker 02

  Start a new family.

• 37:14Speaker 03

Start a new family. Uh, then, you know, dogs, bunch of dogs. The big one I had, I've told this, so this story is on my last special, uh, uh, Hello World. But it's, we cut it. So, but I owned an alligator. When I was, uh, in, when I was, me and my buddy, when I worked-

• 37:37H. Foley?

This whole thing is falling apart very quickly.

• 37:39Speaker 02

He didn't, he didn't, he didn't say, he said yes to every question we've asked him so far. No one's ever said, yeah, you have any weird pets? All of them. Literally, no one's ever had a tarantula, an alligator, birds. It's usually one is okay.

• 37:52H. Foley?

Where did you get the tarantula from?

• 37:54Speaker 03

  One's enough to get it.

• 37:55Speaker 02

Yeah, you're like, oh, you failed that portion of-

• 37:57H. Foley?

You made the team, let me put it to you that way.

• 37:59Speaker 02

This guy's got seventeen written all over him.

• 38:01H. Foley?

  Where'd you get the tarantula?

• 38:02Speaker 03

Uh, I was a kid, my dad got it. My, so I was, I was like five-

• 38:06Speaker 02

The magicians connected to the underworld, this guy.

• 38:08Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. So it, I remember he would do, I woke up, he would, you'd go to sleep and I'd wake up and he'd put it, he'd set it on my chest. So you'd just wake up and be like- Have a trachal in chest.

• 38:19H. Foley?

Could it bite you? Was it poisonous?

• 38:21Speaker 03

Uh, no, no, I don't think, I don't think they are.

• 38:23Speaker 02

I think they're relatively not harmed, they're pretty harmless.

• 38:26H. Foley?

  Not according to Indiana Jones.

• 38:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 38:28Speaker 02

  Or Home Alone.

• 38:30Speaker 03

A little overacting, you know what I mean? He should have, yeah, Home Alone they were. But they're scary if you didn't know.

• 38:36H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 38:36Speaker 02

I mean, they're scary, even if you know, they're still scary.

• 38:38H. Foley?

And where'd you get the alligator and what was his name?

• 38:41Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 38:41H. Foley?

  Or her name?

• 38:42Speaker 02

  I was Gary.

• 38:43Speaker 03

Yeah, I want to say we named it Steve after Steve Irwin.

• 38:46Speaker 02

  That's pretty good.

• 38:47H. Foley?

  I'll give you that.

• 38:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, we love Steve Irwin.

• 38:51Speaker 02

  Who doesn't?

• 38:51Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 38:52H. Foley?

  Shout out to him.

• 38:53Speaker 03

  We wish.

• 38:55Speaker 02

  Rest in peace, big dog.

• 38:56Speaker 03

Yeah, I went to the zoo.

• 38:58Speaker 04

• 39:57Speaker 03

  In Australia, it's awesome, yeah.

• 39:59H. Foley?

His kids run it or something.

• 40:01Speaker 03

They're like the best family ever.

• 40:03Speaker 02

  They seem awesome.

• 40:04Speaker 03

So, uh, me and I, I worked at this, I was reading water meters.

• 40:09H. Foley?

  Mm-hmm.

• 40:09Speaker 03

And so I lived with my buddy and I was like, we should get an alligator. We go, they sold caiman alligators at this pet store. So we went and got it. And then, uh... We had it for a little bit. It got out of control when one time Buddy brought a snake over with the alligator.

• 40:27Speaker 02

What are you guys in the circus?

• 40:27H. Foley?

Yeah, who were you hanging around with?

• 40:29Speaker 03

Well, we were gonna see, you know, I think it was gonna be like, they were gonna see what happens, but then we didn't let it happen. Cause it was like, well, that's crazy.

• 40:36H. Foley?

  This is a Friday night?

• 40:37Speaker 03

And then it got too much, yeah.

• 40:38H. Foley?

How about catching a movie or something like that?

• 40:39Speaker 03

He goes, well, we had, we had real stakes, you know?

• 40:45H. Foley?

So what happened? Who won the duel?

• 40:47Speaker 03

No, they did not go. We, we put a stop to it. That was about when it was like, alright, alright.

• 40:50Speaker 02

  Yeah, what are we doing?

• 40:51Speaker 03

Yeah, what are we, you know, where are we going?

• 40:54Speaker 02

This is, this is the fine, we're at a fork in the road here.

• 40:56Speaker 03

Yeah, we were like the white Michael Vick. We go, alright, alright, that's enough.

• 41:02Speaker 02

Join a bike gang or something.

• 41:04H. Foley?

Next thing you know, you're wrestling a groundhog.

• 41:06Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 41:08H. Foley?

And then how'd you get rid of the alligator?

• 41:10Speaker 03

That's the fun, so I don't know for sure.

• 41:14H. Foley?

You got real selective memory when it comes to getting rid of these bats.

• 41:17Speaker 03

Yeah, I don't, I don't remember how we got rid of the alligator. So I joke, saying the story, we let it, uh, we, there was, we let it go in Old Hickory Lake. Uh, we just kinda sent it off and just let it, but I don't remember. I don't know if we gave it a story. My buddy knows. I don't remember.

• 41:34Speaker 02

  That was probably his job.

• 41:35Speaker 03

It was probably his, yeah. It's just, uh, yeah, we don't.

• 41:39H. Foley?

I'm going to bed. Get him out of here.

• 41:41Speaker 02

• 44:14H. Foley?

Okay, yeah. That's a wild ride for the beginning, I'll tell you that. Growing up, did you keep your butter on the counter?

• 44:23Speaker 03

  Uh...

• 44:23H. Foley?

  They're in the fridge.

• 44:24Speaker 03

  I think in the fridge.

• 44:25H. Foley?

  Ketchup in the fridge?

• 44:26Speaker 03

Uh, ketchup in the fridge. I keep it out now, though.

• 44:29Speaker 02

  Really?

• 44:30Speaker 03

Because you go to a restaurant, you don't ever eat cold ketchup except at home.

• 44:35H. Foley?

Sure. They put it in the fridge at night and put it out for service, just so you know.

• 44:39Speaker 02

Alright. You made it this far.

• 44:40Speaker 03

But you always take it, taste it warm.

• 44:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 44:42Speaker 03

So, now we keep it out.

• 44:44H. Foley?

It's not bubbling or anything like that, is it?

• 44:46Speaker 03

No, no, no. No, it's good.

• 44:48Speaker 02

  You're a Heinz man?

• 44:48Speaker 03

Hey, we get to it. It's not gonna sit there, you know.

• 44:51H. Foley?

Don't worry, Tubby, I got it.

• 44:53Speaker 02

  We're turning tables over here.

• 44:54Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah. I'm a Heinz.

• 44:56Speaker 02

  Heinz.

• 44:57H. Foley?

  You're a Heinz man.

• 44:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 44:58H. Foley?

Mayonnaise-wise, what do you like? You like Hellmann's? You like Miracle Whip?

• 45:01Speaker 03

Uh, I don't like Miracle Whip, but I think we have both, Hellmann's and Miracle Whip.

• 45:04H. Foley?

  Really?

• 45:05Speaker 03

I don't know if we have both, but it'll flip back and forth.

• 45:07H. Foley?

  Growing up?

• 45:08Speaker 03

  Like the squeeze kind, uh...

• 45:09H. Foley?

Were you a Miracle Whip kid growing up? Please say no.

• 45:13Speaker 03

I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. What would it else be? Hellmann's?

• 45:15H. Foley?

  Hellmann's.

• 45:16Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 45:17H. Foley?

  It's the gentleman's.

• 45:17Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 45:18H. Foley?

  Or Dukes.

• 45:19Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, probably something like that. I don't know, I'm not completely shit. Miracle Whip sounds a little fancy, so...

• 45:25H. Foley?

  No, no.

• 45:26Speaker 02

  That's crazy, dude.

• 45:28H. Foley?

  That's the bad one.

• 45:29Speaker 02

  No, that's the bad one.

• 45:30Speaker 03

  Oh, is it?

• 45:31Speaker 02

You're like, this thing's doing miracles.

• 45:33Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 45:33Speaker 02

Yeah, Miracle Whip's the bad one.

• 45:34Speaker 03

I swear I think that's what we had, dude. I don't know. I thought that was like money one. Hellmann's is some money?

• 45:40Speaker 02

  Hellmann's got, eh...

• 45:41Speaker 03

  You got a little cash?

• 45:42Speaker 02

  That's America's brand.

• 45:43Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 45:46H. Foley?

Okay. The ketchup's on the counter. You're a Heinz man, okay. Alright.

• 45:51Speaker 02

Have you ever bought the floor model of a TV or an appliance?

• 45:54Speaker 03

  Uh...

• 45:55Speaker 02

Like, hey, you knock off 200 bucks, I'll take this one right here, no box.

• 46:00Speaker 03

  Hmm. I don't know if I know.

• 46:02Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 46:03Speaker 03

Uh, we did buy, uh, one of the Hertz rental cars.

• 46:07Speaker 02

  Nuh-uh.

• 46:07Speaker 03

Yeah, you know, you can buy a...

• 46:09Speaker 02

What kind of car was it?

• 46:10Speaker 03

  It was a Mazda one.

• 46:12Speaker 02

  Brand loyal.

• 46:13Speaker 03

That was when I moved to LA.

• 46:15H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 46:15Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 46:16H. Foley?

  You bought it?

• 46:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 46:17H. Foley?

Alright, that's like my parents, that's alright.

• 46:19Speaker 03

No, no, my parents, my parents bought a, they, their first car they bought, they, they were not great with money, and so they bought a car off the lot, new, stick-shift Mazda, no air conditioning.

• 46:31Speaker 02

  What?

• 46:32Speaker 03

Cause it was, cause it was like $2,000 cheaper to get no air conditioning. And so they go, oh, you know, they're like, well, do we need air conditioning?

• 46:40H. Foley?

  Tennessee?

• 46:41Speaker 03

Tennessee, it gets brutal without air conditioning.

• 46:44Speaker 02

  Oh, man.

• 46:45Speaker 03

  Brutal.

• 46:46H. Foley?

  Leather seats?

• 46:47Speaker 03

  Uh, no.

• 46:48H. Foley?

You were probably sticking back there.

• 46:49Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 46:50H. Foley?

  Stinks. That's the worst.

• 46:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 46:52H. Foley?

Okay. All right. Are you a cologne guy?

• 46:56Speaker 03

Not anymore. I did a little bit in high school.

• 46:58H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 46:59Speaker 03

I don't, you know, but I think it was, people did it in high school.

• 47:03H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 47:04Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 47:04Speaker 03

I don't do it now. Y'all still do cologne?

• 47:05Speaker 02

  Nah.

• 47:06H. Foley?

  I do a spritz, a little polo.

• 47:07Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 47:08H. Foley?

  Bigger guy, wanna make sure.

• 47:09Speaker 02

  Cover up the barbecue sauce.

• 47:11Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I get it.

• 47:12H. Foley?

Cover up the Miracle Whip smell.

• 47:16Speaker 02

Uh, how many suits do you own?

• 47:18H. Foley?

  Gotta be a couple.

• 47:18Speaker 03

Well, now, it's much different now.

• 47:21H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 47:21Speaker 02

  Of course.

• 47:22Speaker 03

Cause I have to go to a lot of things.

• 47:23Speaker 02

  It's events, yes.

• 47:24Speaker 03

Yes. So now, there's, I have a few suits.

• 47:28H. Foley?

Which, just so you know, the come up is very celebrated.

• 47:30Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:31Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. The audience loves to hear the, the come up.

• 47:33H. Foley?

I mean, those are humble beginnings. And where you are now is crazy. The fact that you swept the floor.

• 47:38Speaker 02

Of the venue that you're, you're performing at.

• 47:41H. Foley?

I mean, that's insane, man. And I mean, I was, you know, in the beginning of the arena thing, you know, on a Tuesday at noon, I mean, you're moving tickets. It's insane.

• 47:51Speaker 02

  Great to see.

• 47:52H. Foley?

  It's awesome to see.

• 47:53Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 47:53H. Foley?

  It really is.

• 47:54Speaker 03

Yeah. No suits growing up before that, though?

• 47:57Speaker 02

No, of course. I want that on a record.

• 47:59Speaker 03

I want that on a record. No suits till way later in life.

• 48:02Speaker 02

We were Tarantula family, no suits.

• 48:03Speaker 03

  No suits.

• 48:04H. Foley?

When did you learn to tie a tie? In Kenya tie tie?

• 48:07Speaker 03

I did my high school year. So, cause we had church, you had chapel on Wednesday, or Wednesday you had to wear, uh, no, did we have to every day? We had to wear a tie maybe every day, or if it was Wednesday. But I had to wear a lot of ties.

• 48:19Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 48:19Speaker 03

So when I was in high school, I just had a ton of ties. No jacket, but you guys wear button down and ties.

• 48:24H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 48:25Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:25Speaker 02

All right. If you had to put a number on the suits, like 20?

• 48:27Speaker 03

  Now?

• 48:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 48:28Speaker 03

  Uh, I don't know if it's 20, but 10, it could be. I mean, yeah, 7, 10?

• 48:36H. Foley?

  Anything of note? Designer wise?

• 48:39Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 48:39H. Foley?

  An Armani, a Gucci?

• 48:41Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah, like Paul Smith.

• 48:43Speaker 02

I don't even know what that is. That's pretty good.

• 48:45Speaker 03

  It's a guy's name, so I know it's good.

• 48:47Speaker 02

  Oh, is that Paul Smith?

• 48:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:49H. Foley?

  He's a Christian tailor.

• 48:50Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh.

• 48:52Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 48:53Speaker 03

Yeah, like, uh, I think I might have some Hugo Boss. Very nice.

• 48:57H. Foley?

  You gotta look sharp.

• 48:58Speaker 03

You gotta look, you gotta do a lot of red carpet stuff.

• 49:01H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 49:02Speaker 03

Then, uh, yeah, I got a tuxedo on the Christmas special and...

• 49:05H. Foley?

  There you go.

• 49:06Speaker 03

  So...

• 49:06H. Foley?

Is that yours? You keep that?

• 49:08Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 49:09H. Foley?

  Did you have that before?

• 49:10Speaker 03

  No.

• 49:10Speaker 02

  But they bought it.

• 49:11Speaker 03

No, I got it for that.

• 49:12H. Foley?

  Nice.

• 49:12Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, you get, like, I, there's a, I have a stylist and so, there's just so much, because you get photographed in everything. So you do all these red carpets, so you have to kind of, like, wear these, like, CMAs.

• 49:27H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 49:27Speaker 03

So you gotta wear a suit for the CMAs. I wore a suit for, uh, I presented at the NHL Awards and then this and that.

• 49:34H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 49:34Speaker 03

It ends up being a lot. You could see why people stop going, I could see why, at one point you go, like, that's enough.

• 49:41Speaker 02

  I've done this enough, yeah.

• 49:43Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, you're like buying it.

• 49:44Speaker 02

  Doing 20 things a year.

• 49:45H. Foley?

It's a lot of prep work.

• 49:45Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, it's the most.

• 49:47Speaker 02

Like, 3 minutes of, hey, I'm here, yeah.

• 49:50Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I mean, award shows, I mean, the, yeah, when people go to those award shows, then they're having to buy, you know, you gotta think, there's probably, even worst case, you might go to 4 a year. It's like, so you got 4 suits.

• 50:02Speaker 02

  Major events.

• 50:03Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, and you gotta...

• 50:04H. Foley?

That's all out of your pocket, right? They don't pay, if you go to, like, the Grammys, they don't pay for your suit, right?

• 50:07Speaker 03

  No, no, no, no.

• 50:08H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 50:09Speaker 02

You have a lot of suits to buy.

• 50:10Speaker 03

Yeah, I think that, yeah, I think, I guess if you're at the Grammys, they figured...

• 50:14Speaker 02

You got the cash for the suit?

• 50:15Speaker 03

  But I could see...

• 50:16Speaker 02

You can tie your own tie.

• 50:18Speaker 03

They go, he's all right. He takes care of it. And maybe you shouldn't wear a suit. Maybe, you know, you can also just can be some, a weird celebrity that doesn't wear...

• 50:27H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 50:27Speaker 02

Sal Valcano said, he's like, I'm doing, he's like, I'm done doing suits. I'll do a jacket, maybe, but then a t-shirt and a pair of jeans or whatever. You've earned that.

• 50:35Speaker 03

Well, as talent, you know, that's what they, you know, you can do, you can be whatever you want, and you go, this is what he does.

• 50:41H. Foley?

Seinfeld pulls it off great. The nice jeans, nice sneakers, t-shirt, the jacket.

• 50:45Speaker 02

  Sandler, that shorts everywhere.

• 50:47Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, Sandler's, exactly. Uh, I always think about wearing a suit, like, on stage, just to not have any thought in it would be nice.

• 50:56Speaker 02

Just go, this is it. It's a black, blue, it's a blue suit everywhere, same tie.

• 51:00Speaker 03

And you go, every show's this. I'm done.

• 51:03Speaker 02

Would you be comfortable, though? Because you're a, you know, you're a...

• 51:06Speaker 03

  I'm, yeah, yeah.

• 51:07Speaker 02

  Would you be comfortable?

• 51:10Speaker 03

No, I wouldn't. I would have to, not now.

• 51:13Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 51:14Speaker 03

  Not now.

• 51:14Speaker 02

  You'd have to get it.

• 51:15Speaker 03

I'd be very uncomfortable right now.

• 51:16Speaker 02

That's it, next door, we're doing suits.

• 51:18Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah. Y'all would look great in suits.

• 51:21Speaker 02

  No, we do not.

• 51:21H. Foley?

  Nah, I look bad.

• 51:22Speaker 03

  You get one.

• 51:23Speaker 02

I look like I belong in a casket.

• 51:24H. Foley?

  Yeah. After like 10 minutes.

• 51:26Speaker 03

And everybody knows why you're there.

• 51:30H. Foley?

After 10 minutes, I look like a fat kid at the end of a wedding. It's not, everything's done. I got cake on my face. It's bad.

• 51:36Speaker 03

  What's his, uh, Tommy Boy?

• 51:39H. Foley?

  Yes.

• 51:40Speaker 02

Fat guy in a little coat. I'll say it for you.

• 51:42H. Foley?

  You don't look good.

• 51:43Speaker 03

I was thinking more his dad.

• 51:46Speaker 02

Oh yeah, when they're doing that.

• 51:46H. Foley?

  Mr. Brian Denny?

• 51:47Speaker 02

Hit him with the hay hose.

• 51:49H. Foley?

  Hey, great actor.

• 51:50Speaker 02

Uh, hmm. Okay. How do you feel about the rotisserie chicken?

• 51:54Speaker 03

Uh, I like it. I, I'm not the biggest chicken fan. Chicken was all we ate growing up.

• 51:59H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 51:59Speaker 03

But, uh, I like rotisserie chicken.

• 52:01H. Foley?

We know you keep it tight now. You do, you do, you do real good with the, with what you eat and all that kinda stuff.

• 52:05Speaker 03

  Oh, not now.

• 52:07H. Foley?

  Really?

• 52:07Speaker 03

I'm in a really bad spot right now.

• 52:09H. Foley?

  Really?

• 52:09Speaker 02

  Hit us.

• 52:10H. Foley?

Let's talk. You come to the right place?

• 52:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:13H. Foley?

  What's your poison?

• 52:14Speaker 03

Well, I mean, I had McDonald's last night. I had, last night, I was hungry and then, uh, I was like, I went to this ice cream place cause in New York, ice cream is like.

• 52:24Speaker 02

  What spot?

• 52:25Speaker 03

Uh, I, I, I forget the name of it. But it was like 11:15 and there's an ice cream place open. It's almost like, well, why would you?

• 52:33H. Foley?

  Live anywhere else?

• 52:34Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, exactly. So then I go there, have, uh, ice cream, the hot fudge, the whole thing. And then, but I, then I haven't really eaten, so then I'm starving and I'm walking back and there's a McDonald's. And so I was like, well, I might as well get McDonald's. And then, so I got number two, no onions.

• 52:50H. Foley?

Number two, no onions, two cheeseburgers?

• 52:52Speaker 03

Yeah, but it's number seven now.

• 52:54H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 52:54Speaker 03

Now, I think the number two now is a quarter pounder. I'm more, but I like a Big Mac, number one, no onions.

• 53:00H. Foley?

You don't like the onions? Is it specific you don't like onions or you don't like?

• 53:02Speaker 03

  I don't like onions. Yeah.

• 53:03H. Foley?

Okay. The ones at McDonald's, I like the, I mean, they're really good.

• 53:06Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. But McDonald's would be my, yeah. But I get, I eat fast food every day. I mean.

• 53:13Speaker 02

And it's McDonald's is the number one for you?

• 53:15Speaker 03

McDonald's is, is number one. Uh, Taco Bell, uh, we have a Sonic near us. I'll do a Sonic.

• 53:22H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 53:23Speaker 03

I like a Sonic. And, uh, great ice there.

• 53:26Speaker 02

  Love, obviously.

• 53:27Speaker 03

  They, uh...

• 53:29Speaker 03

  Yeah, those are probably the.

• 53:30H. Foley?

So this is when you're home. You'll, you'll, you'll be out in the car, you'll, you'll hit a Sonic.

• 53:35Speaker 03

Oh, I'll do it at home. I'll order it at home. It's, I'm in a, I mean, I'm a mess.

• 53:39H. Foley?

You're ordering fast food to the house?

• 53:41Speaker 03

Oh, yeah. I have a DoorDash, I mean, uh, I, DoorDash, I just.

• 53:46H. Foley?

What's the missus say about that? Are you getting something for the whole family or are you just like?

• 53:49Speaker 03

No, usually it's embarrassing. I'm embarrassed by it. I do it later. But, uh.

• 53:54H. Foley?

Wait, you can pull that off? You could be at the house with the family and be like, hey, I'm gonna order some, uh, Sonic.

• 54:00Speaker 03

Well, if you get in a, if you threaten to hit your wife right after. No, I'm joking.

• 54:04Speaker 02

  Threaten to leave the family?

• 54:06Speaker 03

I go, what'd you say? No, uh.

• 54:09H. Foley?

What about the kid? Aren't the kids like, yeah, I want something too?

• 54:11Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, my daughter wants some. But, you know, sometimes I'll order if, I'll get, a lot of times I'll get a Sonic Blast, a Blizzard, or some kind of ice cream. And I'll order that. And I, but I'll do it late enough. So it's like, she'll be at the bed and then I get it sent. Sometimes, you know, they set it up on the.

• 54:27Speaker 02

In the notes, do not ring the doorbell. I'll meet you down the block.

• 54:30Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. I, I set it right on the, uh, set it right on the steps.

• 54:35H. Foley?

  That's top level garbage.

• 54:36Speaker 03

Quietly and, yeah. Uh, I've thrown my way, I've thrown my trash away in another trash. I'll do that. If I eat something out during the day that I don't want my wife to know about. Uh, I've paid cash.

• 54:50H. Foley?

  Uh huh.

• 54:51Speaker 03

And then I, yeah. And then I've, I've thrown it away at a, uh, like a gas, I'll go to a gas station.

• 54:58H. Foley?

  And get rid of it.

• 54:59Speaker 03

Yeah, go to a gas station, act like you're about to get gas, but you don't. You just hop out, throw all your food away there.

• 55:04H. Foley?

That's real fat guy tendencies. You know that, right?

• 55:06Speaker 03

No, no, it's, it's bad. Oh, yeah, yeah. It's bad. I'm a mess right now. I'm truly like, uh, I'm talking to someone about it. Cause it's like that big of a.

• 55:15H. Foley?

  So am I.

• 55:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 55:17Speaker 02

  Talking to you about it.

• 55:18Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, right here, we're all, yeah. It's not good. Yeah.

• 55:21H. Foley?

  No kidding.

• 55:22Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 55:23H. Foley?

  Huh.

• 55:23Speaker 03

I, I, I, I, cause I, I think it's the, we did not, like I said, we didn't cook. I don't know how to cook. So, uh, Cooking was never even to now not been like a big thing. So it's like, I just go to the. I can only think of, if I'm starving, I can't think, well, I'll just make this. I only think, well, I'll just go. What's the quickest way to go get it? And then my brain, like, you know, when I live, even when I lived in New York, we'd go to the Applebee's right about, right here in Times Square. Caroline's was right there.

• 55:58Speaker 02

  Yeah, yes.

• 55:59Speaker 03

  And, but it was in.

• 56:00Speaker 02

  Eating good in the neighborhood.

• 56:01Speaker 03

Yeah, I could only like, I, I would think in chain restaurants. So if I'm hungry, I kind of think of a chain restaurant first. I don't think of a restaurant that's like a cool restaurant.

• 56:11Speaker 02

Do you have a favorite chain of those casual dining establishments where you're like, ooh, an Outback?

• 56:16Speaker 03

Yeah, we've been go, yeah, we'll go to Outback, you know, once we start doing better, once we start doing better, Outback pretty much.

• 56:23Speaker 02

I thought he was like, you guys will have Outback money one day. That's what I thought you were like, once you guys start doing better, Outback.

• 56:28Speaker 03

That's when you, that's when you made it.

• 56:30H. Foley?

  Wait, so like, say.

• 56:31Speaker 03

You do a blooming onion, you don't even worry about how much it costs.

• 56:34H. Foley?

Do you, will you eat a blooming onion?

• 56:36Speaker 03

  I will, yeah.

• 56:37H. Foley?

  But you don't like onions?

• 56:38Speaker 03

  I can't eat a fried onion.

• 56:39H. Foley?

  I'm with you.

• 56:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:40H. Foley?

  I'm with you.

• 56:40Speaker 02

That's real dirt because it's fried. It's not an onion. It's not a vegetable. It's fried.

• 56:44Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 56:45H. Foley?

So, say you're home, you have a week off or whatever, I know you're very busy, and you and the, you and the kids and the misses are gonna go out and get something to eat. Is that where you're going? You'll go to Lincoln Outback?

• 56:54Speaker 03

We're go, yeah, we're, uh, some go to Outback or, uh, I mean, we're trying to go, sometimes go out, if we go out to eat, go to a newer restaurant in Nashville. So we do try to try the stuff. My wife does like different foods, but it.

• 57:07H. Foley?

  She likes nice stuff.

• 57:08Speaker 03

She likes nice stuff. And then, but yeah, overall, it's like, we, me and her, we met at Applebee's.

• 57:14H. Foley?

  Really? Here?

• 57:15Speaker 03

  No, in Nashville.

• 57:16H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 57:16Speaker 03

Yeah, so, uh, and we worked there together.

• 57:19Speaker 02

  You worked at an Applebee's?

• 57:20Speaker 03

Yeah, Applebee's. So that's where we met. Before I started comedy, yeah.

• 57:26Speaker 03

I've been wanting to come on this podcast for a while.

• 57:28Speaker 02

I know, I know. I know. We, I was like.

• 57:31Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:32Speaker 02

I've, I mean, you've said yes to every single thing. It's nuts, dude. And then you're like, yeah, but wait, there's more. That's every answer.

• 57:42H. Foley?

Oh, we met at an Applebee's.

• 57:44Speaker 02

Oh, you like Applebee's? I used to live in an Applebee's.

• 57:47H. Foley?

  That's crazy.

• 57:48Speaker 02

  Uh, okay.

• 57:50H. Foley?

Do you like a lot of, like, do you, if you, I mean, you're doing well. Like, if you guys go to, like, a nice place, are you trying, like, will you have, like, foie gras?

• 57:58Speaker 02

  Eschago.

• 57:59Speaker 03

You know what, I will try stuff.

• 58:01H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 58:02Speaker 03

Yeah, I, I, I am somewhat a pick eater, but I will try anything.

• 58:07H. Foley?

  What's your move at Applebee's?

• 58:09Speaker 03

Uh, we always get, uh, chicken, chicken broccoli Alfredo.

• 58:14Speaker 02

  What?

• 58:15Speaker 03

  Nixed the broccoli.

• 58:16Speaker 02

You're just doing chicken Alfredo at Applebee's?

• 58:18Speaker 03

Say, I'd say either, I'd say, put the broccoli on the side so they think I'm gonna eat it. And then...

• 58:24Speaker 02

  Throw it out later.

• 58:25Speaker 03

Yeah, then I would just be...

• 58:26H. Foley?

Go to a gas station and throw it out?

• 58:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:28H. Foley?

  I was never here.

• 58:30Speaker 03

I'd walk around the restaurant with the plate and try to find someone not looking and dump it in the trash.

• 58:35H. Foley?

You're doing chicken Alfredo at Applebee's?

• 58:37Speaker 03

  Chicken Alfredo at Applebee's.

• 58:38Speaker 02

  Do a starter there, too?

• 58:39Speaker 03

  Chinese chicken salad, uh, uh...

• 58:42H. Foley?

He said he didn't like chicken!

• 58:43Speaker 02

  I know.

• 58:44Speaker 03

I know, well, I don't actually like chicken in my salad. The Chinese chicken salad, it's the, the last thing it is, is a salad.

• 58:50H. Foley?

I know, but it's so good. It's got the wonton crisp and stuff in it and the sweet dressing.

• 58:56Speaker 03

  What, what'd you say?

• 58:57Speaker 02

You do, like, where you do, uh, you know, the potato skins or...

• 59:00Speaker 03

  Yeah, I like potato skins.

• 59:04H. Foley?

  Get out!

• 59:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:05H. Foley?

Ladies and gentlemen, groundbreaking news here on Are You Garbage?

• 59:08Speaker 02

  No onions. John Q. America.

• 59:09Speaker 03

  No onions, ketchup on them.

• 59:12Speaker 02

  Uh-huh, warm ketchup.

• 59:13Speaker 03

  Yeah, warm ketchup.

• 59:14H. Foley?

  I'm a gentleman, okay.

• 59:14Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. I put, uh, there's another, I'm not trying to do my act, but I just have, I talk about this stuff a lot.

• 59:20H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 59:21Speaker 03

But I had, uh, cause I use a lot of ketchup. And so, and I use so much that a guy walked over and said, "That's a lot of ketchup." He had to say it to me.

• 59:31Speaker 02

  Hey, buddy.

• 59:32Speaker 03

He goes, "Hey, man, that's a, that's a bunch of ketchup."

• 59:34Speaker 02

A lot of nitrates in there.

• 59:35Speaker 03

Yeah, I was very uncomfortable. Cause I was like, I just wanna eat my ketchup. That's why if I can get alone with some ketchup, it's...

• 59:41Speaker 02

  It's dangerous.

• 59:42H. Foley?

  It's bad?

• 59:42Speaker 03

  It's bad. I, I can go...

• 59:45H. Foley?

Ketchup on a baked potato, you don't see that a lot. I'm a big fan of it.

• 59:48Speaker 03

Yeah, well, just not on a regular baked potato, but, uh...

• 59:51Speaker 02

  Potato skin.

• 59:51Speaker 03

  Potato skins.

• 59:52H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 59:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:53H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 59:55Speaker 03

My dad would put ketchup on eggs, on everything.

• 59:58Speaker 02

  Yeah, eggs is big.

• 59:59H. Foley?

How do you like your eggies, by the way?

• 1:00:01Speaker 03

  Over medium.

• 1:00:01H. Foley?

Over medium? What's your typical, up the middle, we're having breakfast? What do you like? Couple of eggs over medium? Like bacon, sausage?

• 1:00:10Speaker 03

Yeah, I do. I mean, I think I always skip breakfast. I got into a real big, bad donut phase for a good bit. Krispy Kreme. I had Krispy Kreme two days ago.

• 1:00:20H. Foley?

  You're still in the face?

• 1:00:21Speaker 03

Still in the face. A lot of times I'll get Starbucks and Old Fashioned Donut to start. It's, uh, it kinda starts the day.

• 1:00:27H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:00:28Speaker 03

And then, uh, yeah. I tell ya, it's, it's tough.

• 1:00:32Speaker 02

If you could do one meal, it's your birthday, right? It's my birthday, you're, where are you going? Like, what do you want? Is it like a steak? Is it, you know, let's go get really good Italian pizza? Like, is there like a...

• 1:00:43Speaker 03

Yeah, probably Italian pizza. McDonald's would be still up there.

• 1:00:47Speaker 02

  Run out the plate, please?

• 1:00:48Speaker 03

Yeah, it's, yeah. Uh, but, yeah, Italian would be...

• 1:00:53Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:00:53Speaker 03

Yeah, I could go, I could do some fun pizza. Chicago-style pizza, I like.

• 1:00:58H. Foley?

You're old enough to remember the, uh, the birthdays at McDonald's, right? With the, with the cake, with the...

• 1:01:03Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:04H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:04Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:01:05H. Foley?

Yeah, I got that. I'm 48. That really got their hooks in me.

• 1:01:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:08H. Foley?

  With that, yeah.

• 1:01:09Speaker 03

Well, they used to do this. I did like, they had salads, the shaken salad thing.

• 1:01:13H. Foley?

For a minute, with that shredded cheese?

• 1:01:15Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:15H. Foley?

  Yeah, that was all right.

• 1:01:16Speaker 03

  That was awesome.

• 1:01:17H. Foley?

  Sorry.

• 1:01:20H. Foley?

They want me to lose weight.

• 1:01:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:22Speaker 02

  Trying to keep him alive.

• 1:01:24H. Foley?

Can you whistle with your fingers?

• 1:01:26Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:01:26H. Foley?

  Hmm.

• 1:01:27Speaker 03

  I wish I could.

• 1:01:28H. Foley?

  Double joint it?

• 1:01:30Speaker 02

  He just tried.

• 1:01:32Speaker 03

  What is it? No.

• 1:01:33Speaker 02

No, it's like it goes, it would go backwards.

• 1:01:35Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no.

• 1:01:37H. Foley?

Any fireworks at the house right now, currently?

• 1:01:40Speaker 03

  Uh, no, not now.

• 1:01:43H. Foley?

Got a pool at the crib?

• 1:01:44Speaker 03

  We do now.

• 1:01:45H. Foley?

  Hot tub?

• 1:01:46Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 1:01:46H. Foley?

  Connected?

• 1:01:47Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah.

• 1:01:49H. Foley?

  Nice.

• 1:01:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:50H. Foley?

How are you on the tipping? Good tipper?

• 1:01:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:01:53H. Foley?

Put it down, I would imagine.

• 1:01:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:55H. Foley?

  You like a deviled egg?

• 1:01:56Speaker 03

I love a deviled. My mom makes, my mom's deviled eggs.

• 1:01:59H. Foley?

  She makes deviled eggs?

• 1:01:59Speaker 03

She makes deviled eggs. That's the best.

• 1:02:01H. Foley?

What's the missus do in the kitchen? Does she make dinner usually?

• 1:02:04Speaker 03

Uh, she does. We'll make like HelloFresh, like that kinda thing. And then, uh, but, yeah, so she, she would cook, she can cook.

• 1:02:12H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 1:02:13Speaker 03

But it's, again, no one's like... This is what we do.

• 1:02:17H. Foley?

I would assume you got the good pots and pans, you got the Viking range, the Sub-Z's fridge, right?

• 1:02:22Speaker 03

I don't think we have a Sub-Z, no. We have, uh...

• 1:02:25H. Foley?

  Something comparable.

• 1:02:26Speaker 02

  It's a Kenmore.

• 1:02:27Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I think it's like, fine, you know, but it's, yeah, we're not, uh... I, look, I, there's more stuff I would do. My wife is, is on the cheaper side.

• 1:02:38H. Foley?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:02:39Speaker 03

So she doesn't really want, you know, it's like, she gets something, she doesn't change much. I would change all the time, because we would... I'd constantly have new stuff, because I mean, we grew up like that, like where, you know, in our, the two-bedroom home, my parents' bedroom was, uh... Because it was my sister's room, me and my brother, and their bedroom was the den. So they just turned that into their bedroom.

• 1:02:58Speaker 02

  Gotcha.

• 1:02:59Speaker 03

But then, I'd come home all the time and furniture would be moved, so that was like...

• 1:03:03Speaker 02

  Doing a magic trick.

• 1:03:05Speaker 03

Yeah, well, you'd come home, my mom just would be like, "All right, the couch is over there now, this," and just so it looks different.

• 1:03:10Speaker 02

  Gotcha.

• 1:03:10Speaker 03

Uh, my parents', the dining room, my parents' bedroom went to the dining room at one point, and then the den came back into play.

• 1:03:18H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:03:18Speaker 03

Uh, so there was a lot of, there was a lot of change, yeah. A lot of change like that. So I like change.

• 1:03:26Speaker 02

Okay, so, yeah, you keep it fresh.

• 1:03:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:03:28H. Foley?

Uh, it's the Christmas season, uh, the lights, you got the, you got the, you got the house, the lights on the house?

• 1:03:34Speaker 03

  We do now.

• 1:03:34H. Foley?

White lights on the house, colored lights on the house?

• 1:03:36Speaker 03

Uh, I think they're colored lights, but we had someone put them up, so it's not, yeah.

• 1:03:40Speaker 02

  I did that this year.

• 1:03:41H. Foley?

  Real tree, fake tree?

• 1:03:43Speaker 03

  Uh, fake tree.

• 1:03:44H. Foley?

  Fake tree?

• 1:03:45Speaker 03

Fake tree. I didn't, we've never had a real tree.

• 1:03:47Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:03:48Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:03:49H. Foley?

I was surprised at that a little bit.

• 1:03:51Speaker 03

Uh, I mean, I don't, we don't, you know, it was, again, a lot of just getting the job done.

• 1:03:57Speaker 02

Just do it. Doesn't matter, there's one up.

• 1:03:59Speaker 03

  Yeah, keep it up.

• 1:04:00H. Foley?

  Man, I love them.

• 1:04:01Speaker 02

  Efficiency.

• 1:04:02Speaker 03

Not a lot of tradition, just kind of...

• 1:04:04Speaker 02

Just mostly, you're doing it because you have to have a tree.

• 1:04:07H. Foley?

  Any turquoise?

• 1:04:08Speaker 03

We were like immigrants that lived here, yeah.

• 1:04:09Speaker 02

  Trying to fit in.

• 1:04:10Speaker 03

Trying to fit in, but we've lived here forever.

• 1:04:13H. Foley?

  Any turquoise jewelry?

• 1:04:15Speaker 03

I don't think so. I'm not sure of turquoise, you know.

• 1:04:19Speaker 02

  It's a color.

• 1:04:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:04:22H. Foley?

  That was the best answer.

• 1:04:24Speaker 02

You said you bowl, did you ever own your own bowling ball or pool cue?

• 1:04:27Speaker 03

Uh, my own bowling ball, still have it. My wife got it for me when we were first dating, and it's a Scream ball. So the Scream face from the movie Scream, uh, that was my fa- it's my favorite movie, Scream, yeah.

• 1:04:43H. Foley?

Talking about trying to intimidate the other bowlers.

• 1:04:47H. Foley?

I know what you did last summer.

• 1:04:52H. Foley?

  Screams your favorite movie?

• 1:04:54Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:04:55H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 1:04:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:04:56H. Foley?

Man, you might be taking the crown here, Mr. Bargetti. I gotta be honest with you. Holy shit.

• 1:05:01Speaker 02

  I heard people say it's a pretty, it's a fun movie.

• 1:05:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:05:04Speaker 02

  Never my favorite movie.

• 1:05:05Speaker 03

Uh, yeah. I'll tell you, I honestly was very, I know I've had to reschedule on you guys a lot, but I've always wanted to come on this podcast.

• 1:05:12H. Foley?

  King sized bed?

• 1:05:14Speaker 03

  Now, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:05:15H. Foley?

You sleep with the TV on?

• 1:05:17Speaker 03

  Uh, do not, no.

• 1:05:18H. Foley?

You don't? Sleep on your side, sleep on your back?

• 1:05:21Speaker 03

Uh, I sleep on my side.

• 1:05:23H. Foley?

  How many pillows?

• 1:05:24Speaker 02

I love how he's gotta act everything out.

• 1:05:26H. Foley?

Two, two under the head or holding one?

• 1:05:27Speaker 03

No, one on the head and holding one.

• 1:05:29H. Foley?

  Holding one?

• 1:05:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:05:29H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:05:30Speaker 02

  Respectable.

• 1:05:31H. Foley?

Respectable. Brushing your teeth in the shower?

• 1:05:34Speaker 03

  Uh, not in the shower.

• 1:05:35H. Foley?

Will you pee in there? You pee in the shower?

• 1:05:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I get everything else done.

• 1:05:38Speaker 02

  Goddamn, goddamn.

• 1:05:39Speaker 03

  Yeah, but it's, uh, yeah.

• 1:05:41Speaker 02

All right, uh, any trophies on display at the house at the moment?

• 1:05:45H. Foley?

  You didn't make the team.

• 1:05:46Speaker 02

What was it on the team? I apologize, retract that.

• 1:05:50Speaker 03

  I, I threw a no hitter when I was, uh, 12.

• 1:05:53H. Foley?

  There you go.

• 1:05:53Speaker 02

  That's good, that's great.

• 1:05:55Speaker 03

  I have that ball.

• 1:05:55H. Foley?

  Nice.

• 1:05:56Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:05:56H. Foley?

  That's pretty good.

• 1:05:57Speaker 03

That's pretty good. And then, uh, but yeah, trophies, uh,

• 1:06:01Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:06:02Speaker 03

You know, we have a lot now, a lot of posters and stuff like that that you would have in comedy.

• 1:06:06H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 1:06:06Speaker 02

  Sure, for sure.

• 1:06:07H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 1:06:08Speaker 02

  Okay, huh.

• 1:06:09H. Foley?

Just to go back with the basketball court, did they, is that already dedicated to you? Like, is it already up?

• 1:06:14Speaker 03

  It's not up yet.

• 1:06:16H. Foley?

  Will there be a ceremony?

• 1:06:17Speaker 03

Yeah. I think, yeah, I believe so.

• 1:06:20Speaker 02

  I wanna go to that.

• 1:06:20H. Foley?

That's awesome. So wide, so big.

• 1:06:23Speaker 03

You guys can come cover it?

• 1:06:25Speaker 02

  Here we are.

• 1:06:27H. Foley?

Are you gonna have like the big pair of scissors and like cut the ribbon?

• 1:06:29Speaker 03

  I hope so.

• 1:06:30Speaker 02

  You should.

• 1:06:30Speaker 03

  Uh, they should.

• 1:06:31H. Foley?

And have you ever done that?

• 1:06:32Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:06:33H. Foley?

  That'd be pretty sweet.

• 1:06:34Speaker 03

  That'd be pretty sweet.

• 1:06:35Speaker 02

Do you have any keys to any cities?

• 1:06:37Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 1:06:39Speaker 02

I mean, I only, I only get to ask that like once a year. You gotta ask him. Tennessee kid.

• 1:06:45Speaker 03

I might've got a key to the city.

• 1:06:46Speaker 02

Old Hickory's gotta give you at least a access card or something.

• 1:06:49Speaker 03

They were, and we're, we're, Angie Jackson's from Old Hickory.

• 1:06:52H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:53Speaker 03

So, he's, you know, he's kinda top dog.

• 1:06:55Speaker 02

That's a tough one to beat. How many specials he got?

• 1:06:57Speaker 03

  I know, that's what I'm saying.

• 1:06:58Speaker 02

He saw at the Bridgestone Arena, huh?

• 1:07:01Speaker 03

He's a fun guy. He has like big parties at the White, you know.

• 1:07:04H. Foley?

Yeah. Will you, will you dance at a wedding?

• 1:07:07Speaker 03

I'm not a big fan, but I mean, I'll get out there for a second and do.

• 1:07:12H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:07:12Speaker 02

Shimmy a little bit, slow dance.

• 1:07:13Speaker 03

  But yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:15Speaker 02

  All right, uh huh.

• 1:07:18Speaker 03

Our wedding, I'm trying to think, our wedding, got married on Friday the 13th because it was cheaper.

• 1:07:23Speaker 02

  Scream?

• 1:07:24Speaker 03

Yeah, it was cheaper to do it that day. And I did it because I didn't want to go up against college football because it was in college football season. So I felt, I was like, well, I don't want to make everybody miss college football. So I did it on Friday. We did it on Friday.

• 1:07:36Speaker 02

  What was the venue?

• 1:07:37Speaker 03

  Old Hickory Country Club.

• 1:07:39Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:07:40Speaker 03

That was, yeah, I was not a member there, but.

• 1:07:43Speaker 02

We ran out on the 10th hole real quick.

• 1:07:45Speaker 03

Yeah. Uh, yeah, very, I remember our DJ, uh, just was like this old man my mom hired and he had one leg.

• 1:07:56H. Foley?

  Really?

• 1:07:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:07:58H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:07:58Speaker 03

And then he would play, I mean, he just like, he only had songs up to the 90s.

• 1:08:03Speaker 02

Yeah, up to a certain year.

• 1:08:04Speaker 03

Yeah, and then he was like, he didn't have anything.

• 1:08:06H. Foley?

Rob bass three times in a row? What are we doing here?

• 1:08:10Speaker 02

Uh, you open your eyes underwater in the pool.

• 1:08:12Speaker 03

Oh, yeah. I said, I have a, I just said, I did a joke about it on SNL.

• 1:08:16Speaker 02

  Oh, really?

• 1:08:17Speaker 03

Because that's the first time I had a raspberry, I was 40 years old. So I never had a raspberry.

• 1:08:21H. Foley?

An actual rat, like a fruit?

• 1:08:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:08:23Speaker 02

  We are very similar people.

• 1:08:24Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:08:24Speaker 02

  Eerily similar.

• 1:08:25Speaker 03

  Yeah, never had a raspberry.

• 1:08:26H. Foley?

  What'd you think of it?

• 1:08:27Speaker 03

Uh, I liked them at the time, but now I've been far enough removed, I'm kind of back off.

• 1:08:31H. Foley?

  Really?

• 1:08:32Speaker 03

I don't think I won, but that day when I had them, I was like, I ate them so much. I was at a nice, I was at someone's house, very nice house.

• 1:08:40Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:08:40Speaker 03

In California. So like, they're not, they had someone bring the raspberries.

• 1:08:43Speaker 02

  Fresh fruit.

• 1:08:44Speaker 03

Fresh fruit. And then, so I was like, well, what's this? And then I asked them what that was. And so in the joke.

• 1:08:49Speaker 02

  I know what they are.

• 1:08:50Speaker 03

Yeah. Well, in the joke, they were, uh, I said, like, they were like, the bowl? Because that made more, that made more sense. And.

• 1:08:57Speaker 02

  That's a good bit.

• 1:08:58Speaker 03

Then in the joke, I said, like, well, I don't come from money, so I didn't have raspberries. Like, I still swim with my eyes open.

• 1:09:04Speaker 02

  Ah.

• 1:09:04Speaker 03

Because, and you know when I really, I feel like some of the people don't get it. But it's like, swimming with your eyes open is, you come, you have no money, you couldn't afford goggles.

• 1:09:13H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:13Speaker 02

I never, yeah, that makes sense.

• 1:09:15Speaker 03

You still, I still swim with my eyes open. We did, uh, when I did, I did a little tour 10 plus, 10 plus years ago with Fallon. And it was like me, Nick Thune, Julian McCullough, Seth Herzog. And so, we were on tour and I remember when we were doing a show in Atlanta. So me and Thune were swimming that day and then we would like race back and forth. And then my eyes got bloodshot red for the show. And then, I can swim real far underwater.

• 1:09:43Speaker 02

  How, how far?

• 1:09:44Speaker 03

Pretty far. I could do, I, I probably do Olympic sized pool.

• 1:09:47Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:09:47Speaker 03

  Yeah, I think so. I, but there's.

• 1:09:51Speaker 02

Also bragging about how far you can swim underwater, garbage.

• 1:09:56H. Foley?

  That's a throwaway too.

• 1:09:59Speaker 02

I'm sure you're wondering, I can crush it under there.

• 1:10:01Speaker 03

Yeah. Uh, and, but then he was like, uh, he goes, do you open your eyes in water? And I mean, I was like, yeah, I thought, I mean, I thought everybody did that.

• 1:10:10Speaker 02

How you gonna, how you gonna see the end of the pool?

• 1:10:12Speaker 03

Exactly. How you gonna see the end of the pool?

• 1:10:14H. Foley?

Hit my head like an idiot.

• 1:10:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:10:17H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 1:10:17Speaker 02

Well, I never thought it was, I, you're, that makes sense. We've, it's been a long, you know, long time question, but the lack of goggles makes so much more sense. Because if you have goggles, you don't need to worry about it. Yeah.

• 1:10:29Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, most people would have did.

• 1:10:31Speaker 02

I just wanna know what's going on.

• 1:10:32Speaker 03

I just wanna know what's going on. Yeah.

• 1:10:35H. Foley?

We were just having fun at this point.

• 1:10:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:10:37H. Foley?

  This kid's trash.

• 1:10:41Speaker 02

I mean, I don't, there's nothing we could ask that would pull him out of this in the fourth quarter here. I'm, you know.

• 1:10:49H. Foley?

Do you read? Are you a reader?

• 1:10:50Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:10:51Speaker 02

  He doesn't listen to music.

• 1:10:52Speaker 03

It goes, I did, I write, I wrote a book. Comes out in May.

• 1:10:56Speaker 02

  There you go.

• 1:10:56H. Foley?

  There you go.

• 1:10:57Speaker 03

  Something.

• 1:10:58Speaker 02

Gotta love a guy who can write a book and not read a book. I respect that. That's the, that's the American dream right there.

• 1:11:02Speaker 03

Yeah, I have to read it for the audiobook. So that's the, that'll be the next book I read.

• 1:11:07Speaker 02

Have you ever saved a Crown Royal bag?

• 1:11:11Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, I don't know if I, I guess I did, but yes. Yeah, yeah. That, that was big when I was, yeah, that was, yeah.

• 1:11:18H. Foley?

Are you a frozen pizza guy?

• 1:11:20Speaker 03

  Oh yeah, it's my favorite.

• 1:11:21H. Foley?

  What?

• 1:11:22Speaker 03

  Tostinos.

• 1:11:23H. Foley?

  Nate.

• 1:11:23Speaker 03

  Tostinos. I ate it, uh.

• 1:11:26Speaker 02

  Wait, the littler one?

• 1:11:27Speaker 03

Uh, it's like a square box.

• 1:11:30H. Foley?

  Yeah, they make it.

• 1:11:30Speaker 02

  It's a square box.

• 1:11:31Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:11:33H. Foley?

Tostinos doesn't just make pizza rolls. They have, they have other uh, branches in the organization.

• 1:11:38Speaker 03

I would eat, uh, I used to eat love that.

• 1:11:40Speaker 02

  Like the?

• 1:11:41Speaker 03

Piggy Wiggly Pizza. Piggy Wiggly had a great one for a while, so I could eat two of those. So caught, when I was going to Vol State, because we drove there, lived at home, so I'd drive back, we'd eat, uh, tostine, either Piggy Wiggly or Tostinos pizzas. And we would put the one in, I'd get, uh, pepperoni. I had it, I mean, honestly, I had it, uh, I had it. I had it Monday, maybe a couple nights ago or last week.

• 1:12:04H. Foley?

  Really?

• 1:12:04Speaker 03

  I had a Tostinos pizza.

• 1:12:05H. Foley?

  Still rocking.

• 1:12:06Speaker 03

  I love, I mean, I, I, I love those.

• 1:12:08H. Foley?

Who's doing the grocery shopping at the house? Will you go?

• 1:12:11Speaker 03

  No, I've never done it.

• 1:12:12H. Foley?

  No?

• 1:12:12Speaker 03

No, it's, yeah, my wife does it.

• 1:12:15H. Foley?

But you can say, hey, get a couple of?

• 1:12:17Speaker 03

  She knows.

• 1:12:20Speaker 02

I mean, she met him at an Applebee's. What are we doing here?

• 1:12:22Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:12:22H. Foley?

There's no way you're sneaking out to Arby's anymore.

• 1:12:25Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:12:26H. Foley?

  Get them at the house.

• 1:12:26Speaker 02

You prefer the pizza rolls or a bagel bite?

• 1:12:29Speaker 03

Uh, bagel bite. Yeah. I like a nice bagel bite. I don't like it too crispy. I get it. I can eat stuff a little soggy.

• 1:12:35Speaker 02

  Yeah, me too.

• 1:12:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:12:36H. Foley?

Ever been to a monster truck show?

• 1:12:38Speaker 03

Hmm, I think once. Yeah. I've been to, uh, one time I went to, uh, demolition derby, derby.

• 1:12:46H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 1:12:47Speaker 03

And it's like, they did this one thing where you, the cars would crash and it'd be whoever had the headlights last the longest. So they keep hitting each other.

• 1:12:56H. Foley?

  Whoa.

• 1:12:56Speaker 03

And then it gets eventually, so it'd be dark, the lights are off, it's just headlights, and then whoever's headlights last the longest.

• 1:13:03Speaker 02

  That's a good time.

• 1:13:04H. Foley?

That's great. That's like sudden death.

• 1:13:06Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:06H. Foley?

That's really good. Um, first big check you got? From comedy?

• 1:13:14Speaker 03

  From comedy?

• 1:13:14H. Foley?

  Any crazy purchases?

• 1:13:16Speaker 02

Anything you look back and were like, shouldn't have done that.

• 1:13:18H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:18Speaker 03

  Oh, uh.

• 1:13:20H. Foley?

  Any silly purchases?

• 1:13:21Speaker 03

I mean, I've had silly purchases, but I, it was, I never really did any where I wasn't able to do them.

• 1:13:27Speaker 02

  Gotcha.

• 1:13:27H. Foley?

  Uh.

• 1:13:28Speaker 02

It's like you got a check for five grand, you went out and bought like a wave runner or anything.

• 1:13:31Speaker 03

  No, no, no.

• 1:13:31H. Foley?

You're pretty responsible when it comes to all that, right?

• 1:13:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:34H. Foley?

As far as throughout your career?

• 1:13:35Speaker 03

Fortunately, when you, growing up without money, money never really meant anything to, because you don't have it. So then when you do get it, it's like, I never took anything for money. I never did gigs specific, I mean, you, you want to make money, you just hope it's gonna, you just figure, if I'm not trying to go get the money, then I'm, gotta just hope that the money's gonna work out.

• 1:13:56H. Foley?

  Right.

• 1:13:56Speaker 03

And so you just kind of do that, uh. But yeah, I think I like, first crazy money would have been like, uh, the Comedy Central Presents, maybe? It might have been like fifteen grand you got.

• 1:14:08H. Foley?

What'd you get? Did you buy something?

• 1:14:09Speaker 03

Uh, I bought a watch, a tag watch. So every special I buy, uh, every special I'll buy a watch.

• 1:14:16H. Foley?

Every special you buy yourself a watch?

• 1:14:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:18Speaker 02

  To wear on it?

• 1:14:20Speaker 03

To wear on, and it kind of like this, this one I wore on the special that comes out on, to Christmas Eve today.

• 1:14:27H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:27Speaker 03

So it's like, so yeah, just to kind of like, have a marker, it's like one little thing to be like, so I can always be like, well, this was this special, this was, add one for SNL, add one for, you know.

• 1:14:37H. Foley?

  I like that.

• 1:14:38Speaker 03

  Kind of big things, yeah.

• 1:14:39H. Foley?

That's the classiest thing about you.

• 1:14:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:41H. Foley?

  That's pretty good.

• 1:14:41Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:42H. Foley?

There you go, you got a point there.

• 1:14:43Speaker 03

  Hey, hey!

• 1:14:45Speaker 02

  Ninety-nine to one.

• 1:14:48H. Foley?

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Nate Bargatze, uh, as we said, the special comes out December 24th. Your friend Nate Bargatze out on Netflix, and the Christmas special is gonna be streaming on Paramount Plus.

• 1:15:00Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:15:00H. Foley?

Which, how crazy is that? You got a Christmas special.

• 1:15:02Speaker 03

It's crazy, it's awesome. Variety, it's like, uh, Lorne Michaels produced it, Sturgis Sodell, Mikey Day, uh, created it with me, and it's, uh, old school variety.

• 1:15:12H. Foley?

  I love it.

• 1:15:12Speaker 03

Kind of feel, so it's all, yeah.

• 1:15:13H. Foley?

Were you a Hee Haw guy back in the day?

• 1:15:15Speaker 03

  Uh, not, I mean, I don't, no, I'd, but I mean, I remember Hee Haw, but I don't.

• 1:15:20H. Foley?

When I was a kid, I loved it.

• 1:15:21Speaker 03

We were a big Andy Griffith. Andy Griffith was what we allowed to.

• 1:15:24H. Foley?

I liked Hee Haw, I liked, I liked the, the idea of the variety.

• 1:15:27Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:15:28H. Foley?

I think it's super cool that you're, you know.

• 1:15:30Speaker 03

  It's super fun.

• 1:15:30H. Foley?

  Bringing that back.

• 1:15:31Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:15:31H. Foley?

I love it. Buddy, we love you.

• 1:15:33Speaker 02

  Yeah, man.

• 1:15:33Speaker 03

  Yeah, love you guys.

• 1:15:34H. Foley?

We can't thank you enough for coming in. Congratulations on everything, you're killing it, you're one of the best we got, and we're very happy for you, man.

• 1:15:40Speaker 03

Thank you for, sorry I had, you know, I know it took a little bit to come.

• 1:15:43Speaker 02

  No, no.

• 1:15:43H. Foley?

  But it was worth it.

• 1:15:44Speaker 02

Yeah, well, well worth the wait.

• 1:15:46H. Foley?

You opened it up with falling down a cliff. Damn home run. Kip, what do you got for us?

• 1:15:50Speaker 02

Uh, guys, we're announcing tour dates, uh, early in January, so get, be sure to get those tickets, you can sign up for the email list at areyougarbage.com, we love yous.

• 1:16:00H. Foley?

Yeah. Nate, we love you, gang, we love you.

• 1:16:02Speaker 03

  Love you guys.

• 1:16:03H. Foley?

  Peace.
