• 0:15Cameron Hanes?

All right. This is the Keep Hammering Collective with Jason Hopper. What's up?

• 0:19Speaker 01

Thanks for having me. This is awesome.

• 0:21Cameron Hanes?

  How you doing?

• 0:22Speaker 01

Doing great. We had a big day today.

• 0:25Cameron Hanes?

  How was it?

• 0:25Speaker 01

Tell the folks what we did.

• 0:27Cameron Hanes?

We did a lift, a proper lift run shoot and this was a, this was a big one because we had a goal, or you had a goal to break the Rock up Mount Pesca record.

• 0:39Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 0:40Cameron Hanes?

Which my oldest son had at, I think he's 30 oh four, something like that, just right over 30 minutes. So nobody's ever broke 30 minutes. We thought if anybody's gonna do it, it could be you, but I also did have to make it hard.

• 0:54Speaker 01

  You did.

• 0:55Cameron Hanes?

Because you are the, it's the fittest man on earth, right?

• 0:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 0:58Cameron Hanes?

  Okay. I said-

• 0:59Speaker 01

Or the world. It doesn't matter.

• 1:00Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. I apologized to everybody when I said fittest man in the world. I know that makes no sense and nobody would know what I was talking about. So thank you for correcting me. Fittest man on earth. So I figured if we got the king, current king here, we had to challenge him. So we did a 13 mile run first, at least 13, probably further, but with a couple thousand feet to gain, that was good. And then went to the rock.

• 1:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:28Cameron Hanes?

  So tell me about it.

• 1:29Speaker 01

So I, you didn't tell me anything about what the terrain was gonna be. So I was, I had the assumption that we were gonna run 18 miles. Cause that was the, the initial goal.

• 1:42Cameron Hanes?

And I got, my phone says 17.

• 1:44Speaker 01

Yeah. It was all gonna be on road. That's, that's the assumption. I didn't really ask any questions. I didn't ask any questions. I was just like, you know, I'm just gonna, I'm just gonna show up.

• 1:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah. That's a good assumption.

• 1:54Speaker 01

And we, we climbed 2,000 feet in the first three miles.

• 1:59Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:59Speaker 01

  And maybe 20 minutes.

• 2:02Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. Yeah. It was tough. That's a grind.

• 2:06Speaker 01

So we were, we were climbing. There were moments when one of us were on all fours.

• 2:12Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:12Speaker 01

Because of how steep it was.

• 2:14Cameron Hanes?

  Doing whatever it takes.

• 2:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:17Cameron Hanes?

It was working for you. I was like, well, okay.

• 2:20Speaker 01

  I didn't, I didn't tell anybody who it was.

• 2:21Cameron Hanes?

Oh, no, no, no. I mean, I don't know who it was, but it was working for them.

• 2:24Speaker 01

  It was. It felt comfortable.

• 2:27Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:27Speaker 01

But then, you know, okay, it was me. It felt comfortable for moments. And then it was like,

• 2:34Cameron Hanes?

  what are you doing?

• 2:36Speaker 01

  What are you doing?

• 2:36Cameron Hanes?

But then you did it again.

• 2:38Speaker 01

I did it a total of three times. It, for some reason, it was comfortable.

• 2:42Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:42Speaker 01

And then I got out of that and, uh, we made it up. It was, it was definitely the hardest part about today.

• 2:47Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm. That climb?

• 2:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:49Speaker 01

Before we climbed, we had a little, a little conversation about how you said, this is the moment everybody looks, doesn't look forward to.

• 2:57Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 2:58Speaker 01

And, uh, I said, this is the moment I look, I look forward to the most.

• 3:03Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. Well, what I was saying is I was relating it to like when you lift weights and when you get that, those reps and they started burning, getting to failure. Most people quit way before that, but that's where the gains happen. That's where the growth is going to happen. That's your outer comfort zone. It hurts. Your muscles are going to respond more. But those reps are tough.

• 3:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:23Cameron Hanes?

And I was saying, I try to have that same mindset for running when I'm running up a hill and my, my quads are just on fire. If you can embrace that and be like, I'm finally here. This is where I've been trying to get to the whole time.

• 3:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:36Cameron Hanes?

It's different than when people feel that and they're like, okay, gotta recover.

• 3:40Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 3:41Cameron Hanes?

But you, to your point, you embrace that. And I noticed that, that I knew it was hurting because it was hurting me. And I do it all the time, but my legs were on fire and you were just kept pushing. And it was like, it was so cool to see because you were, you know, it's easy to say you love that kind of stuff.

• 3:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:00Cameron Hanes?

  Everybody, not everybody.

• 4:02Speaker 01

  It sounds, it sounds good.

• 4:03Cameron Hanes?

A lot of people say what they're supposed to say.

• 4:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:06Cameron Hanes?

But then you see it in action and it's like, well, your words aren't matching what you're doing now.

• 4:11Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 4:11Cameron Hanes?

But yours did. So that was, I was really impressed with that. That was cool. Um, and then getting up Spencer's, we could have a really good view of the city, which is nice. We're above the clouds. That fog kind of sits down in the valley sometimes that we could see all the way up to the cascades.

• 4:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:26Cameron Hanes?

  Just an awesome view.

• 4:27Speaker 01

That was amazing. That was amazing. And then, uh, we descended down. And we kept climbing.

• 4:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 4:35Speaker 01

So I was, I was in the, under the impression that that was going to be the most climbing and then we would get on the road.

• 4:40Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 4:41Speaker 01

And you kept finding ways to find more mountains.

• 4:45Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. Even that one over where we ran on the road for a while and then cut off and then did that.

• 4:51Speaker 01

Yeah, we're doing eighteen in the, in the hills.

• 4:54Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it's legit. But, uh, I needed to make sure we had, like I said, the proper test for you.

• 5:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:02Cameron Hanes?

You're like an elite athlete. Um, I don't want you, my, my goal with people is I want them to leave here with good stories to tell, like have something, you know, make an impact on somebody where they leave here and they're thinking about all the shit we did.

• 5:18Speaker 01

  Right.

• 5:19Cameron Hanes?

And they're thinking about why, why it's important and why it might impact their life, you know, and it's like, I don't know if that ever happens, but that's my goal is I want to share what I do. And I always want the person who I'm with to do more than they've ever done. So if they've run three miles, I want them to run four or five or something like that.

• 5:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:35Cameron Hanes?

And I just want to make it memorable, you know, it's like, this is, this is what drives me every day, this lift, run, shoot. And that's allowed me to have the success I've had. So if I can share that, and then when it's with an outlier like yourself, I can learn from your mindset on what makes you bulletproof or what makes you a winner. And then selfishly, I pretend like this, I'm entertaining you, I'm giving you a bow, I'm doing all this stuff. This is all for me. This is just because I'm addicted to learning how to be the best version of a human I can be. And I do different things than you, but I can take lessons I've learned from you and implement into my routine or my, my mindset maybe.

• 6:16Cameron Hanes?

And it's going to allow me to elevate, you know, be it that, that higher, you know, my highest potential as a human.

• 6:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:24Cameron Hanes?

And so that's why I love, I'm, I'm learning from you the whole time. And it was fun to be able to quiz you and see you in action and, and, you know, think about how that can impact me later.

• 6:34Speaker 01

Well, likewise, I feel like I've been learning a lot. A lot on the, on the running. Obviously you taught me so much about how to shoot a bow that I didn't know. Um, so likewise, brother. It's been a fun trip.

• 6:48Cameron Hanes?

Oh, it's been great. If you're up before the sun, logging miles, lifting heavy, or chasing elk through the mountains, what fuels you matters. That's why I drink Black Rifle Coffee Company. Black Rifle Coffee is built by veterans, roasted right here in America, and made for people who keep hammering day in and day out. No shortcuts, just coffee and fuel that actually works. I'll be honest, I used to drink a lot of white monsters, just trying to keep my energy up, plus coffee. But once Black Rifle rolled out their energy drinks, I switched. The ingredients are way cleaner, and they don't leave me feeling cracked out. And I feel a lot better about what I'm putting in my

• 7:29Cameron Hanes?

body. Same focus, same steady energy, no junk. As we move into a new year and look ahead to America's 250th year as a country, Black Rifle Coffee is taking things up a notch. New roasts, new gear, and more ways to give back to those who serve. So as you lock in on your goals and get after it this year, fuel up with something that works as hard as you do. If you're drinking coffee or energy drinks, make a Black Rifle. You can find it at Walmart, your local grocery store, or online at blackriflecoffee.com. And right now, get 10% off when you use code KEEP HAMMERING. Black Rifle Coffee, veteran founded, America's coffee.

• 8:11Cameron Hanes?

Out in the mountains, there's no room for weak gear. When I'm packing out meat in the heat, or loading up for a long range training trip, I need a cooler that holds the line every time. That's why I use Grizzly coolers. These things are bear proof, rugged as hell, and keep ice locked in for days, literally. I've had coolers on the trail, baking in the sun, still holding ice after hauling out elk quarters. That's performance you can count on. Whether you're running deep in the backcountry, or just stacking meat for the weekend, Grizzly is built for that grind. Right now, you can get 20% off at grizzlycoolers.com with the code KEEP HAMMERING. And that's all

• 8:54Cameron Hanes?

one word. And I'm not going to spell it. Keep hammering. Again, keep hammering, one word for 20% off. Don't roll with weak gear. Go Grizzly.

• 9:07Cameron Hanes?

We went to O P H, had the, that's our breakfast stop.

• 9:10Speaker 01

  We did.

• 9:11Cameron Hanes?

That, I thought, okay, let's get the run out of the way, which, which we did, it was a great run. Then let's, you know, refuel, recover a little bit, because you can get depleted and you just can't perform. You know how that goes, you know, you're just, you know, when you sweat a lot, like you did sweat a lot, running. So that salt gets down, your magnesium gets down, you're getting more dry. You're at a calorie deficit, even though you did a pretty good job with the, with your gels.

• 9:39Speaker 01

That was my number one goal. I always, like you, like you said, we talked about it after. I've never, obviously, ran more than eight miles at once. But you hear that the main reason people kind of fall off is because they don't, they aren't disciplined with their nutrition.

• 9:54Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 9:55Speaker 01

And, you know, this is my first time running. The initial goal was 18.

• 9:59Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 9:59Speaker 01

It was like, all right, I'm going to put down, you know, the goal is 50, 50 carbs every, you know, 30 to 45 minutes. And just keep it going. And I didn't want to get off that sort of goal because I didn't want to get to 13. And because at the same time, it's like, you get to the first 10, you're, you're thinking, oh, I don't need that yet.

• 10:19Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 10:19Speaker 01

Uh, because you're in a flow and you're fresh and there's adrenaline. But then all of a sudden, it just clicks. He's like, oh, wow, like.

• 10:26Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 10:27Speaker 01

I feel, I feel very crappy right now.

• 10:28Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 10:29Speaker 01

And it's probably because you didn't, you know, you weren't disciplined.

• 10:31Cameron Hanes?

  You fell behind slowly.

• 10:32Speaker 01

Yeah. Uh, so I wanted to make sure that it wasn't because of me and my lack of discipline and fueling that I would fall off.

• 10:42Cameron Hanes?

You were controlling what you could.

• 10:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:44Cameron Hanes?

You know, there's the effort and all that. You, you don't really know what you're going to be tasked with. But you can control what you could control, and that was, you know, nutrition, calories. You had a couple of water bottles, so you did a good job on making sure you're giving your body what it needs to perform and to love you expect. But we went to that good breakfast. That was fun, kind of a reset. And then it's like, okay, let's go get this rock thing. Uh, again, it was Tanner had it at 30 oh four. And, uh, so yeah, you, you busted out an incredible rock carry up there. Which we've talked about it a couple of times now, but.

• 11:23Cameron Hanes?

I felt like I did feel like the record was in jeopardy when you're at the mile marker in 20 minutes because that told me you had a half mile left and you were on pace to break it because you had most of climbing done by that time. So you had done a half mile in 10 minute segments and now you just had a half mile left and you did it in 720. And so your total time 2720, which is the new Piska Rock Carry record, which I'm not surprised you got it. But it was just, it was fun. It was just-

• 11:52Speaker 01

The people videoing were haters. They weren't, uh-

• 11:54Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, these guys?

• 11:56Speaker 01

  They didn't believe-

• 11:57Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, I know.

• 11:58Speaker 01

  My own guy didn't believe.

• 11:59Cameron Hanes?

That's sad, isn't it? Isn't that sad? You figure you're ride or die.

• 12:04Speaker 01

  I know, right?

• 12:04Cameron Hanes?

  Ride or die.

• 12:05Speaker 01

Uh, no, but no, like at the end of the day, it's fuel, you know, when someone tells you you can't do it.

• 12:11Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 12:12Speaker 01

It, uh, it obviously drives me and that's-

• 12:15Cameron Hanes?

Someone who you love like a brother, then all of a sudden they're saying, I don't believe in you.

• 12:19Speaker 01

That's right. Someone who off camera says you could do it, but then, you know.

• 12:26Cameron Hanes?

We're screwing around. So that was fun. That was, you know, we saw, we saw people in town for Spike Camp, which is cool, you know, guys up on the pit, on the top at the summit. And then also this couple from Florida came in and met them at the bottom. But it was just, I just live for days like today. And then also it was great because then we had our bench press competition and Tanner, I called Tanner because he got off work at 3:30 and I said, hey, um, Jay Hop Drop Top Cock Block-

• 12:57Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 12:59Cameron Hanes?

Chop Shop is gonna get on this bench here and we're gonna see if-

• 13:03Speaker 01

You gotta tell that, you gotta elaborate on, you gotta give people context of what that was.

• 13:07Cameron Hanes?

  What?

• 13:08Speaker 01

  Whatever you just said.

• 13:09Cameron Hanes?

That's your nickname, Jay Hop. No, wait, how, can you give me the lyrics to this song? What is it? It's-

• 13:19Speaker 02

  Rain drop.

• 13:20Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 13:20Speaker 02

  Drop top.

• 13:21Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 13:22Speaker 02

Cooking up dope in the hot box.

• 13:24Cameron Hanes?

So anyway, I didn't get the lyrics a hundred percent right, I guess. What I just said, but it was based on that.

• 13:31Speaker 01

We have a little remix. He, he asked me what the name of my gym was, and I said hop shop.

• 13:37Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 13:38Speaker 01

And when you, when you, when you say hop shop, you instantly think of that song.

• 13:41Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, I know.

• 13:43Speaker 01

So we put a little twist on it.

• 13:45Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 13:45Speaker 01

  But uh.

• 13:46Cameron Hanes?

We gotta, we gotta, still gotta flush it out a little bit.

• 13:48Speaker 01

  We did.

• 13:48Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it's not, it's kind of rough. It's a rough version still, but we'll get it.

• 13:52Speaker 01

It's our first draft. It's our first draft. But no, the, the rock here was, was challenging for sure. But like I said, I think the run, the first three miles of today.

• 14:01Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 14:01Speaker 01

Were the hardest for me, the most challenging mentally. And then the rock, man, I knew, I just knew.

• 14:08Cameron Hanes?

  You get it?

• 14:09Speaker 01

I just knew it was, it was.

• 14:10Cameron Hanes?

  You called it.

• 14:11Speaker 01

  It was wrapped up.

• 14:12Cameron Hanes?

You said twenty seven, maybe twenty eight.

• 14:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:14Cameron Hanes?

  At the, before he started.

• 14:16Speaker 01

  It was just like, I'd.

• 14:20Speaker 01

I'm not gonna let myself run.

• 14:21Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 14:22Speaker 01

A mile and a half in thirty minutes.

• 14:25Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 14:25Speaker 01

  That was just a mindset.

• 14:26Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 14:27Speaker 01

I'll be damned if it takes me that long to run that long.

• 14:30Cameron Hanes?

I hear you. I hear you.

• 14:31Speaker 01

That was like the mindset. And then obviously what we talked about earlier, like I, the way the rock was like positioned on my, on my back and us going uphill, it was really, it was kind of difficult for me to like, get my torso up and look at how far I was going. So I was able to be where, be where my feet were. That's kind of like the mindset I had was just say, be where you're, you know, be where your feet are, be planted where you are, bloom. Um, and kind of just take, you know, one, you know, one, one, one step at a time.

• 14:58Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 14:59Speaker 01

And obviously it did hurt, but it helped me because every time I did peak up at the incline, I was like, oof.

• 15:05Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 15:06Speaker 01

You know, head back down, head back down. Um, and so keeping, keeping that there and like being present in the, in that, in that moment was, was definitely helpful. Cause obviously it was peeking at my watch and I saw, you know, the predicted pace that, you know, I would run a mile in and, you know, I was like, I'll just stay here at this pace.

• 15:22Cameron Hanes?

  And yeah.

• 15:23Speaker 01

But there was definitely some moments where I had to keep telling myself, hey, you love this. Like you're built for this. And where everybody else like shy away and like hesitate towards this, this is where you go all in. Because you love it. Like I love it. This is what I'm obsessed with, this feeling right here. And uh. I went to invite it in. Like, I don't wanna, I don't wanna put a hand to it. Like, come on in.

• 15:47Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 15:48Speaker 01

Like, I don't have a hate relationship with pain.

• 15:49Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 15:50Speaker 01

And, and that's, that's just, that was an opportunity to kinda, you know, build that love relationship with it.

• 15:57Cameron Hanes?

So, do you think, is pain, is that what stops most people, do you think? Because people have such an inversion to pain, we're taught to, if something hurts you, stop.

• 16:06Speaker 01

  Right.

• 16:07Cameron Hanes?

Where, and you're kind of ingrained with that. It's just like, you hear that your whole life. That's your signal to stop, but, so to change that mindset and just be like, no, I'm leaning into this. And, and also, what's so worse that's gonna happen?

• 16:22Speaker 01

  Right.

• 16:22Cameron Hanes?

I mean, you're not gonna die.

• 16:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 16:24Cameron Hanes?

You're not gonna die from the pain, so, what could possibly happen by pushing harder than you've ever pushed, other than opening up a new pathway, a new, a new, it's a whole nother resource, like, oh, I've never been here before, now I'm in this other realm, what can I do here?

• 16:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 16:46Cameron Hanes?

And before, you never knew what that would be like, because you'd stopped before it.

• 16:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 16:50Cameron Hanes?

So, I think that, I mean, it's, it's a fascinating exercise to think,

• 16:56Cameron Hanes?

to learn more about that pain. You know, you, you said you invited in, but it's like, there's a lot to it.

• 17:01Speaker 01

  Yeah, no, for sure.

• 17:02Cameron Hanes?

  It's awesome.

• 17:02Speaker 01

  And it comes with training.

• 17:03Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 17:03Speaker 01

You know, you just don't wake up and, you know, have that mindset, or even the physical ability to even do that. I was definitely trained, but I do think people should be doing stuff like that. Because it gives you, it gives you immediate feedback on where, on your pain tolerance, on what you're able to accomplish mentally, and how far you're willing to go. I'm taking a rock up a mountain. Like you said, nothing's gonna stop me, I'm not going against anybody else but myself, it's me and this rock.

• 17:32Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 17:33Speaker 01

And the only thing that's gonna stop is me. And so, you can get to the top of that, or if you fail, you can walk away with that with data. You get to go away with thinking, wow, there's some things that I need to change in my life to to get me to the, you know, bulletproof or hard or whatever you want to label it as. You get to step away with that with a with just facts and just some, you know, data to to change. And that's what I love about that. And I think people should, for us as CrossFitters, we don't, we don't necessarily do that every day. We train, you know, other methods, but I do think that test right there,

• 18:18Speaker 01

and it could be anything. Just do something hard. It doesn't have to be sexy. It doesn't have to be, you know, written up to be like, you know, this is a great workout. No, just do something hard. Do something that is going initially scares you and just see what you're capable of. See what you're made of.

• 18:36Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 18:37Speaker 01

Like, that that test right there, the first, the first thing I thought about when I put the the rock on the thing, and I was gonna, I told you I was gonna tell you this. I beat the record by two, two minutes and 40 seconds.

• 18:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yep. Forty-four seconds.

• 18:52Speaker 01

Forty-four seconds. It was two with 27, 20.

• 18:55Cameron Hanes?

  Twenty-seven, 20.

• 18:56Speaker 01

Twenty-seven, 20. My first thought was, damn.

• 19:01Cameron Hanes?

  Twenty-sixes.

• 19:02Speaker 01

I want to, I want, I want to be in the 26.

• 19:03Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. When you're deep in the backcountry and everything depends on your gear, your knife can't be the weak link. That's why I teamed up with Montana Knife Company to build the Keep Hammering Pack Out. What matters to me in all things is performance. The Pack Out is built to do one thing really well, break down animals efficiently. The blade shape gives you control when skinning, the steel holds an edge, and it's light enough that you don't think twice about carrying it all day. When you're tired, cold, and working on an animal miles from the truck, simple and reliable are everything. Montana Knife Company is American-made, and that matters to me. I know Josh Smith personally, and he doesn't cut corners. He cares about quality, doing things the right way,

• 19:47Cameron Hanes?

and about building products here in the USA that actually perform in the field. That's why I trust this knife. If you want to check it out, head to montanaknifecompany.com. And right now, podcast listeners, get 10% off any knife with code CAM10. C-A-M-10.

• 20:08Cameron Hanes?

To keep hammering pack out, built for the back country, built to work. One of the hardest parts of hunting is glassing big country to find animals you know are there. That's why I run Sig Sauer Zulu Imaging Stabilizing Binoculars when I'm covering a lot of ground and need to see everything. These binos are a complete game changer. After long climbs, when your heart rate's up and your hands aren't steady, shaky glass makes it hard to stay locked in. With image stabilization, everything settles down. You can slow the process, really pick apart the country, and catch movement you'd normally miss. I've found more animals and saved a ton of time because of these binos.

• 20:51Cameron Hanes?

I actually just talked about how impressive this technology is on the most recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. Once you use stabilized glass, it's hard to go back. It gives you a real advantage when you're hunting big, open terrain. And here's the rare part. Optics companies almost never offer discounts, but Sig is giving listeners of this podcast 10% off. Just use code CAM at checkout. So if you're serious about glassing and want the same edge I've had the past couple of seasons, head to sigsauer.com, grab a pair of Zulu binos, and use code CAM for 10% off. Sig Sauer Zulu Binoculars. See more, miss less, keep hammering.

• 21:33Speaker 01

  I wasn't thinking about any like, I wasn't like-

• 21:36Cameron Hanes?

You're thinking the other way. Instead of I crushed it by 244. You're thinking, God, I was only 21 seconds from 2659.

• 21:44Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 21:45Cameron Hanes?

  And that's 26s.

• 21:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:47Cameron Hanes?

  And so- That's a winner.

• 21:48Speaker 01

Yeah. To your point, I just, I think people need to tap into stuff like this a little bit more because it just, like I said, it gives immediate feedback on where you currently are mentally.

• 21:57Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. No, I like that. It's, and also you had said a key thing in there where, you know, you're in the moment and, you know, one step at a time. Because when you would glance up, it seemed like a long way, right? So, and that's life. That's, that's a marathon. That's probably some of your CrossFit workouts. Like if you're running a marathon, you can't focus on- Mile twenty five because you're on mile four.

• 22:21Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 22:21Cameron Hanes?

You need to focus on mile four.

• 22:23Speaker 01

I mean, yeah, it's all about the process.

• 22:24Cameron Hanes?

You can worry about mile twenty five when you get there. But people think about they're hurting a mile four. I'm never going to be able to make it. I'm never gonna, just don't worry about that. Worry about the mile you're in.

• 22:34Speaker 01

  Right.

• 22:34Cameron Hanes?

And so that was the point that you, that I was taking from what you were saying is like, no, you just got to focus on what you're doing at that moment. And then I think, you know, it takes a while to learn your body and to learn the signals from your body. And then your self-talk, you know, as we talked about this pain relationship, but it's also the self-talk with people is powerful.

• 22:54Speaker 01

  Right.

• 22:55Cameron Hanes?

Like, how do, how do you, are you beating yourself up? Like you calling yourself a pussy. It's like, I knew this, I, I, I knew I wasn't in shape, I knew. Or are you like, you know, as you, you're like looking at it as data set points where it's like, oh, I'm learning from this. I need this information.

• 23:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:11Cameron Hanes?

So it's just how you're, how that self-talk, how you're interpreting, how you're feeling and the emotions associated with it. I think a lot of people miss out on that. And I don't think they get to the, to grow to their, their full potential because of it. But it sounds really easy to explain, but implementing it is hard.

• 23:32Speaker 01

For sure. I do think, um, it takes a lot of self-awareness to figure out how to talk to yourself in certain situations.

• 23:40Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 23:40Speaker 01

For me, there is time to be like, all right, you're being weak.

• 23:45Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 23:46Speaker 01

Like quit, quit making excuses, buckle up and like do the job. Like, but there are also times where I don't respond well to that. And I do something well and I'm hard on myself, but I'm, I look back and I'm like, dude, there's been a lot of progress.

• 24:04Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 24:05Speaker 01

I don't need to hear the voice, you suck.

• 24:08Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 24:08Speaker 01

I need to hear the voice, hey, you're. You're making, you're making strides.

• 24:12Cameron Hanes?

Look how further along you are.

• 24:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, like, just look back.

• 24:15Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 24:15Speaker 01

Look how far you've come. Obviously, I'm not, I'm not a satisfied person.

• 24:19Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 24:20Speaker 01

That's just not my nature. Like, so like, obviously, like, when I set that rock down, I'm not think, I'm thinking about, dang, like, what could have been, you know, so I don't have to really wrestle with that. But there are times when, you know, I gotta look back and see how far I've come or see the needle, see how far the needle has been pushed and whatever I'm working on and be like, hey, dude, you're on the right goal, you're on the right track. And, uh, yeah, so I think it, I think you have to have like, a lot of self-awareness to be able to know what, what kind of self-talk in each situation.

• 24:57Speaker 01

  What you need most, yeah.

• 24:59Cameron Hanes?

Well, and as humans, we, our mood changes all the time, every day. We're, we're inundated with different things come in, different, you know, different relationship issues or arguments, or you read something. So you're changing daily too.

• 25:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:15Cameron Hanes?

And it's just, it's so dynamic. Well, how, and I was just, that made me think, so how do you, you have a coach?

• 25:22Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 25:22Cameron Hanes?

Or, so how does a coach know how to talk to you? Is it just experience? Or, because you feel, to me, it feels like you are so dialed in on your ability and your mindset that a coach wouldn't, couldn't know any of that to your level. So what does a coach offer you right now?

• 25:44Speaker 01

So he is not necessarily offering that per se.

• 25:47Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 25:48Speaker 01

Um, it depends, like, he, we don't, we're not in the same state. So typically, the main thing that a coach is doing is programming for me.

• 25:57Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 25:57Speaker 01

Um, so my guy, same as L, programs for me, and that typically just looks like workouts, obviously. And we'll talk through that and what he wants to see from those workouts. Um, so the thing, I guess the thing he's talking, coaching me through is maybe like technique. If I, if I send him a, a lift of me snatching, he'll, he'll coach me through that. But the mindset stuff, um,

• 26:25Speaker 01

I'm like, it's very rare where I'm asking him, hey, like, what should I be thinking?

• 26:30Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 26:31Speaker 01

Typically, if that were to come up, it's typically at a competition.

• 26:35Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 26:36Speaker 01

Where he's like, we're face to face and I come off the floor and maybe it's a bad event. And I'm like wrestling with thoughts of like, damn, like, I just came in near last in this event. It's very crucial for him to like, be like, hey, dude, short term memory.

• 26:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, on to the next.

• 26:54Speaker 01

Yeah, on to the next. So in those situations, it's definitely helpful.

• 26:57Cameron Hanes?

It's just cues probably just to get you moving and so you're not thinking about.

• 27:02Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 27:02Cameron Hanes?

What, what already, you can't do anything about the past.

• 27:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:05Cameron Hanes?

But yeah, that's, that's interesting. Um, yeah. So like, tell me the difference between, you mentioned like, you told me, you explained your whole CrossFit career. Right now you're the current champion, which is incredible because like I was saying, like even for these CrossFit gyms here,

• 27:24Cameron Hanes?

to make regionals is like you're a freak. And not only, you know, we're talking levels above regionals, but you won the whole damn thing against the whole world, which, which is amazing, but also so, but I book in that with you had a competition where you were out early. Right? I mean, what happened in like.

• 27:46Speaker 01

  Early.

• 27:47Cameron Hanes?

  Uh, your, your worst CrossFit.

• 27:49Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 27:50Cameron Hanes?

  What?

• 27:50Speaker 01

  Oh, I got cut. Yeah.

• 27:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. So what, what does that mean? Tell me what getting cut means.

• 27:56Speaker 01

So there was a games in 2022 where if you weren't in a certain position after two days, you were cut from competition.

• 28:04Cameron Hanes?

Okay. So they're just, it's like making a cut in golf.

• 28:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:07Cameron Hanes?

  Like if you're.

• 28:08Speaker 01

  Right. Yeah.

• 28:08Cameron Hanes?

  Strokes over whatever, you're out.

• 28:10Speaker 01

Yeah. So basically I went to that competition and I had a terrible day one and day two. And I was in 32nd place after, uh, I think maybe Friday night.

• 28:24Cameron Hanes?

And what, what'd they cut to? 30?

• 28:26Speaker 01

  30. And then the late, and the next day they cut it 20.

• 28:30Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 28:31Speaker 01

So, yeah, I was on the chopping block.

• 28:33Cameron Hanes?

  Well.

• 28:34Speaker 01

That was a bad, that was a bad year.

• 28:35Cameron Hanes?

How'd you do the year before?

• 28:37Speaker 01

  Seventh.

• 28:38Cameron Hanes?

  So you were trending up.

• 28:40Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 28:40Cameron Hanes?

You're supposed to be, and is that, that when you were training.

• 28:45Speaker 01

With Matt. Yeah. I moved to Vermont.

• 28:46Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 28:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:47Cameron Hanes?

And so what, tell me, like, what was, how do you go from that to champion?

• 28:53Cameron Hanes?

Um, like, explain the mistakes you made. I want to learn, see if I can learn from the mistakes you made that year. What happened?

• 29:00Speaker 01

So I, I, I thought that to be a champion, it looked like one way.

• 29:08Cameron Hanes?

  Matt's way?

• 29:09Speaker 01

  Matt's way.

• 29:09Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 29:10Speaker 01

And so I assumed that if I wanted to be a champion, it was doing everything that Matt did, his lifestyle, that was the only way. And so I moved to Vermont, six months, and I realized how much I love my home, my friends, my lifestyle. And I basically put all that on the chopping block for winning. And it was a lifestyle that I wasn't really used to. It was a very stretching lifestyle. And I'm not saying it's a bad lifestyle. It just wasn't, it wasn't for me.

• 29:44Cameron Hanes?

A stretch, what did you say?

• 29:46Speaker 01

  It was stretching me.

• 29:47Cameron Hanes?

Oh, okay, gotcha. Oh, yeah. Yeah.

• 29:49Speaker 01

  Pause, pause.

• 29:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 29:52Speaker 01

Um, but essentially, I struggled with not only the training, but also just living in Vermont away from

• 30:05Cameron Hanes?

  Isolated.

• 30:06Speaker 01

  my home.

• 30:07Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 30:07Speaker 01

Um, and man, I'm a dude, I'm a family guy, I'm a friend guy, I have a bunch of friends. I love hanging out, I love doing things. And that, being able to train and do the things that we're doing, that is like my, my escape. And so there have been moments where I'm head down, just burying myself. And, you know, going out, not like, you know, until midnight drinking, but like going out to a restaurant, hang out with the friends, or, you know, doing something with the boys, like, that is like my, like, almost like a recovery.

• 30:42Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 30:43Speaker 01

Get my mind off of everything I'm already focused on. Because I can go, I can get deep into that kind of stuff and go all in to a detriment.

• 30:49Cameron Hanes?

  Like, too obsessive.

• 30:50Speaker 01

  Too obsessed, yeah.

• 30:51Cameron Hanes?

  So you need to release.

• 30:53Speaker 01

Yeah, that's what I did in Vermont. And On top of that, the training of it, there was, it was a lot of volume. It was a lot of hours. It was a lot of reps and my body was not reacting well to it.

• 31:07Cameron Hanes?

Like, how many hours did you train a day?

• 31:10Speaker 01

We were there like eight o'clock in the morning, leaving at, you know, six or seven at night. Uh, there was, there was some lunch breaks.

• 31:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, yeah. But long days.

• 31:19Speaker 01

  Long days, three sessions sometimes.

• 31:21Cameron Hanes?

Was Matt still competing at this time?

• 31:23Speaker 01

No, no, no, no, no. He would never let me move up there when he was competing. No, he would never.

• 31:29Cameron Hanes?

Why? Cause he's trying to protect his spot at the top?

• 31:32Speaker 01

Yeah, he would never, never let, he would never train with people. But it honestly wasn't Matt's fault because I looked at him and I said, before I moved up there and I said, hey, I want you to put me through exactly what you put yourself through for five years.

• 31:44Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 31:44Speaker 01

So I, I gave him the invitation.

• 31:46Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 31:46Speaker 01

I, I accepted it. He accepted it and I went for it and then, but I learned through that, that it wasn't for me.

• 31:52Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 31:53Speaker 01

I go to the games and I'm just run down, like there's no intensity whatsoever.

• 31:59Cameron Hanes?

Like was your body weight down too? Do you think?

• 32:01Speaker 01

No, I was up. Lots of, lots of inflammation.

• 32:04Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 32:04Speaker 01

So I was like two thirty-two going to the CrossFit Games. Um, and what I realized was I had been doing all this volume, but it wasn't with any intensity. It was just a lot of reps.

• 32:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 32:16Speaker 01

So then I get to game day and we're about to race and everybody else has this intensity that I just can't tap into because I've never trained it.

• 32:24Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 32:25Speaker 01

I got a lot of volume. I can do a lot of these workouts over the course of a weekend, but I'm not even gonna make it to Friday.

• 32:33Cameron Hanes?

And what, what was your thought going into those games? What did, did you think you were gonna win?

• 32:37Speaker 01

I wanted to be on the podium.

• 32:38Cameron Hanes?

  Okay, top three.

• 32:39Speaker 01

  Top three.

• 32:40Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 32:41Speaker 01

So I went from seventh, honestly had a really good, they call it semifinals now. It's a new regionals and I had a really good semifinal where, you know, like I said, it, it gave, it gives you data.

• 32:55Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 32:55Speaker 01

It's like immediate feedback on where kinda everybody is in the season. And in that time, I was getting good feedback and I was like, man, there's a good chance I can podium.

• 33:04Cameron Hanes?

You think that, how, how far before the games was that?

• 33:08Speaker 01

Oh, that was when I peaked.

• 33:10Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, but how far before that?

• 33:11Speaker 01

  Two months.

• 33:11Cameron Hanes?

Two months, so. Was it just the, the movements in that, whatever you subscribed during that event or that contest, those just mashed up well with your ability and the other ones didn't?

• 33:26Speaker 01

No, so when I got to that competition, I wasn't, I hadn't been run down. The run, the, when I got overtrained, it was the week after that.

• 33:36Cameron Hanes?

Between there and the games, gotcha.

• 33:37Speaker 01

Yeah, so when I got there, the intensity was pretty high. Uh, because I was doing a lot less volume and that the intensity was a lot higher.

• 33:44Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 33:44Speaker 01

So I made it through that and then that's when the real training, games training actually happened. And, uh, like I said, I got to the games and just couldn't keep up. So to answer your question, the change happened when I, after the games, when I moved back home, when I was like, you know what? I know what works for me. It's not volume, it's intensity. Games intensity, that's what I want to train at. Like I want to, I want to go to every single workout and every single day with the mindset, I'm at the CrossFit Games and I'm about to get everything I got. And I'm not going to do a workout if I'm not, if I'm not there. Like I'm not doing a workout if I'm at 50%. I'm not doing anything just

• 34:27Speaker 01

to check a box. I'm not doing anything just to get the reps in, uh, because I've seen, I've seen what that does. I've felt what that does and it doesn't work. So I'm only doing things with the utmost intensity. That's all I did. So it was a lot less volume, a lot less hours in the gym, but when we did race, like I was obviously up at the top because I've been training that intensity.

• 34:52Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that's, that's awesome. Well, but how, how would you, how many times did you go and say you're at 50% and not train?

• 35:01Speaker 01

  A lot of times.

• 35:01Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 35:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 35:03Cameron Hanes?

Cause that seems like somebody like you.

• 35:05Speaker 01

This is gonna, this is gonna, this is gonna, I don't know, you might not like this.

• 35:09Cameron Hanes?

  It's okay.

• 35:10Speaker 01

But there have been multiple times where I would be in the middle of a workout and it's not the right intensity. Now I would shut it down.

• 35:22Speaker 01

And people might think that's like, I'm a quitter or it's soft, but you gotta think, I'm not doing, in that moment, I'm not training to make me hard or tough. I'm training for a competition.

• 35:36Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 35:36Speaker 01

So it's the, it's the intent of why I'm doing that. Like if I did a workout and the intent was just like, and I didn't have to compete, of course, I'm not going to quit the workout. I'm just gonna like.

• 35:46Cameron Hanes?

You're just burning calories. I gotta burn this many calories today.

• 35:49Speaker 01

I'm just gonna get through it.

• 35:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 35:51Speaker 01

I'm not, I'm not a quitter just because.

• 35:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 35:53Speaker 01

Things get tough. But I, there have been multiple moments where I'd be in games training specifically, leading up to the games. And like I said, I had been so, I'm, I'm so scared of that Vermont experience and how I felt that I was like, I don't even want to dabble in that. And so if, if it was like, oh, I got this workout later this afternoon. I've done, this is, you know, we're deep into the week. I'm already feeling the effects and we're deep into this day. I've already done a whole lot of things.

• 36:24Speaker 01

And I started because I feel the pressure of like, man, like, I can't say no to this. Like, I feel there, cause it's, it's, it's a, it's a tough decision. It's like, do you want to like, not do what's prescribed today?

• 36:36Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 36:37Speaker 01

You want to go home and just be like, yeah, I didn't do that.

• 36:39Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, I wasn't feeling like.

• 36:40Speaker 01

Yeah, I feel like, yeah, it's like, that's like, that's totally not me.

• 36:43Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 36:43Speaker 01

But also it's like, it's the maturity behind it. It's like, all right, I'm gonna, there have been moments where I'm like, yeah, I gotta do it. Like, I just gotta do it. And then you get into it and it's like, man, this isn't pushing the needle. This isn't doing anything for me.

• 36:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 36:55Speaker 01

I'm wasting my time. And actually it's just, it's, it's now affecting the next day.

• 36:58Cameron Hanes?

Right, right. Cause you're going to be more, yeah, more compromised.

• 37:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:03Cameron Hanes?

When you're deep in the backcountry and everything depends on your gear, your knife can't be the weak link. That's why I teamed up with Montana Knife Company to build the Keep Hammering Packout. What matters to me in all things is performance. The Packout is built to do one thing really well. Break down animals efficiently. The blade shape gives you control when skinning. The steel holds an edge and it's light enough that you don't think twice about carrying it all day. When you're tired, cold. And working on an animal miles from the truck, simple and reliable are everything. Montana Knife Company is American made and that matters to me. I know Josh Smith personally and he doesn't cut corners.

And since 1931, that is exactly what they've been doing. I'm skeptical every year that this year's bow will be better than last year's. Yet somehow their engineers seem to figure it out. I think what sets them apart is their engineers are all avid hunters themselves. So they take their bows in the field every year with intent to make them stronger, faster, and more accurate. and my favorite, the ghost stick. That's code CAM at checkout at Hoyt.com. You know what that reminds me of is, uh, Khabib has talked about this in Dagestan where those guys go back and he, he could like, uh, do something like this, but as a coach, he could look at everybody and see who was fresh or who'd been on their phone, like laying in bed at night. Oh, yeah. And not. And so he would, he would not have them train.

• 39:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:38Cameron Hanes?

And it's just like, no, you can't do this at 50% because you're tired, because you're dick around on your phone. So he'd take their phone and keep it until get some sleep, come back ready to train.

• 39:49Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 39:49Cameron Hanes?

And, and that's what it reminds me of. It's like, it doesn't, at this certain level, I mean, most people, you just gotta get your workout in and you're not, you're not winning the ga- you're not winning anything. You're just trying to win life. And some, it doesn't matter if you're performing at your highest level. It's just like, some people get, like, for me, I get through a workout because what it offers me mentally. I know I'm not gaining anything physically, but I have to work out, you know, it's like I have to, I have to do shit. And um, so there's that, but I think at a certain level of elite athleticism, it's, you know, I talk about this with Olympic athletes where sleep is just like training. It's just as important as reps.

• 40:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:30Cameron Hanes?

You have to recover your, your body. So it's like, it's sort of that. It's like, let's make sure we're training at the, at our highest level, the right way. And that's how you make those, you know, incredible gains. But yeah, I was just curious how that, you had some momentum going up and then a huge letdown in that competition and then back to the top. And it's just, it's pretty cool to hear you explain all that and how your mindset's altered.

• 40:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:59Cameron Hanes?

Um, yeah, it's like, so to me, I've heard, you know, I've spent the day, a couple of days with you now, but I've heard a couple of stories. One of them that, which that, you know, is a big learning thing. Um, you learned that you like to be around your friends and train at home and, you know, the mat thing wasn't for you in that area. But then you also had another like, like, uh.

• 41:23Speaker 01

  That's a great coach. I mean.

• 41:24Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. Oh, my legend, I'm sure.

• 41:27Speaker 01

  None of that was wasted.

• 41:28Cameron Hanes?

  No.

• 41:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:29Cameron Hanes?

  You learned from it.

• 41:30Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 41:30Cameron Hanes?

That was all positive. And uh, and there could have been a chance, a time maybe in, in a different time in your life where you went and that's exactly what you needed.

• 41:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:40Cameron Hanes?

So it's, or exactly what somebody else needed, you know, it's just.

• 41:44Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 41:44Cameron Hanes?

Like I said earlier, we're, it's a complicated species, you know, as a human.

• 41:50Cameron Hanes?

But you had another one too. So you've had to restart a couple of times, but you mentioned Clemson football where you were playing and you quit and worked at a coffee shop. So that was another time where you're like, I gotta start over. So what, what is it about this? And tell me about that one. And then like, it feels to me like you take these hits, people question, what are you doing, whatever, and then you rise up higher even. So it's like, your gut instinct is right. Other people can't see it or feel it, but it always works for you. So tell me about the football one. Ignite isn't your average energy drink. • 44:09Speaker 01

So I was playing football and kind of just, so I started, I jumped all into the fitness space. Uh, like a year before I started playing. So in, in the sense of like, I started doing CrossFit.

• 44:20Cameron Hanes?

So wait, so when, were you in high school?

• 44:22Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 44:23Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 44:23Speaker 01

  And started doing CrossFit.

• 44:25Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 44:26Speaker 01

Just outside of high school, right when I started college. And fell in love with this was two thousand seventeen, watched all the documentaries. I'm like learning.

• 44:36Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. What'd you, what'd you love about it? I mean, tell me what you, when you were watching those docs, what'd you love?

• 44:42Speaker 01

I love watching Matt go, man. I was like, dude, that dude is unbelievable.

• 44:46Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 44:46Speaker 01

And, uh, I saw something when it came to like his willingness to like endure pain.

• 44:53Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 44:53Speaker 01

That I related to. Obviously, I was in that time, I wasn't nearly as good. Uh, but I saw something in that. And I was like, just, you know, that was the guy.

• 45:03Cameron Hanes?

What, what did you, how did you know, or how would you know how much pain he was in? Or how could, why did you feel like he could deal with pain better? What did you see?

• 45:12Speaker 01

  His eyes.

• 45:13Cameron Hanes?

Eyes, okay. Yeah. Eyes never lie, Chico.

• 45:16Speaker 01

You just not, you just know, man.

• 45:18Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, okay.

• 45:18Speaker 01

Just know, you just, you know a winner when you see it.

• 45:21Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 45:22Speaker 01

And, uh, you could just tell. Are you, he wears it on his sleeve. And so, yeah, you just know he was ultra competitive. And he had that it factor.

• 45:34Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 45:35Speaker 01

And it's hard to explain, you know, just some people got it like that. And he was someone that you just, you watched and he was like, yeah, that's the one.

• 45:42Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 45:42Speaker 01

And so I watched that, the doc, the documentaries.

• 45:45Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, move that closer to you, that mic.

• 45:47Speaker 01

  Oh, sorry.

• 45:47Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, it's okay.

• 45:48Speaker 01

Watched the documentaries and Tia had, Tia had the same it, it factor. She still does.

• 45:53Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 45:54Speaker 01

Uh, so, you know, two thousand seventeen, I watched that and then I was playing football.

• 45:59Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 46:00Speaker 01

The issue was with football, I was a freshman and I had these dreams to obviously play in the NFL or, you know, even if I didn't want to play or didn't play in the NFL, I had this, I wanted to coach.

• 46:12Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 46:12Speaker 01

Like it was either, I'm going to either coach after I want to be a receivers coach. Um.

• 46:20Speaker 01

And or playing the NFL. And so I that was like the initial out of high school. This is what I want to do. And

• 46:30Speaker 01

with with football, I'm not, I wasn't a five star. I wasn't the fastest guy on the field. So I needed to develop and it was going to take me a while. I was playing in the one of the best schools in the country. So if I did play. To get in that rotation. If I did play, it was going to be my senior year. Right. And so it was all about just developing and being patient and trusting the process on that stuff. And honestly, when I was going through that, all I since I'd also been dabbling with CrossFit, I just couldn't stop thinking about CrossFit. That was growing. And when I was playing football, I started to to wane, my love towards football started to die.

• 47:13Speaker 01

Simply because one, I wasn't playing. I wasn't like, I was, I was, I knew I had to wait for like my chance. It was going to take a long time. Yeah. But this was giving, this was giving me instant gratification. Yeah. So I was, I was growing really good in this and very quickly. And there were people saying, you know, I can go, you know, that documentary right there, you can go, you can go do that. Yeah. And people weren't necessarily saying, hey, four years. Yeah. This is promised. Right. And so kind of fixed my eyes on CrossFit and fitness. And fell out of love with football. And so the decision we after my freshman year, when we lost to Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

• 47:58Speaker 01

I ran out to the on that field. And I said, this is my last game. I already knew. The Sugar Bowl, I mean, I didn't play the game. I was doing warmups and I saw them Alabama boys and I said, this is, this is not, this is not in the cards in my, in my, in my future. Yeah. So they gave me some clarity on that, but I yeah, stepped away from football after that game and I worked at a coffee shop in Clemson, all in coffee shop.

• 48:27Speaker 01

That's our, that's the Clemson mantra all in. And, uh, yeah, I worked there and like you said, people were like, bro, what are you doing?

• 48:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 48:35Speaker 01

What are you doing? I had family like, man.

• 48:37Cameron Hanes?

And they were like, how's football going?

• 48:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:39Cameron Hanes?

  What'd you say?

• 48:41Speaker 01

How's football? Uh, this, this, this, this heart in this coffee looks good. This latte.

• 48:46Cameron Hanes?

Could you do a heart in a, could you do it?

• 48:48Speaker 01

Yeah, I learned how to do that.

• 48:51Cameron Hanes?

  Next level, dude.

• 48:53Speaker 01

  The downfall.

• 48:56Speaker 01

Putting in a sugar bowl to make a latte.

• 48:58Cameron Hanes?

Ooh, yes. Yeah, that's, that's rough. That's quite a transition.

• 49:02Speaker 01

We're not crapping on baristas, by the way, either.

• 49:04Cameron Hanes?

No, no, no. But I think you should be like a hot girl. That would make that heart look a little better than getting it from you, your big arms. So, uh.

• 49:16Speaker 01

Yeah, like I said, there was a lot of, there were a lot of people that loved to keep up with you when you, when you were on the football team.

• 49:24Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 49:24Speaker 01

And you, you just start to see them.

• 49:26Cameron Hanes?

  Disappear.

• 49:27Speaker 01

Disappear. But, uh, you know, I had a, so I had a lot of offers. I wouldn't say a lot. I had like maybe five out of high school to play at some smaller schools. Appalachian State.

• 49:39Cameron Hanes?

  They're pretty good.

• 49:40Speaker 01

  Coastal Carolina.

• 49:40Cameron Hanes?

  They're good, right?

• 49:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:41Cameron Hanes?

  Appalachians are.

• 49:42Speaker 01

Yeah. Uh, so they were like some smaller schools that offered me and I was like, no, I'm playing, I'm playing at Clemson. I'm an extremist and I want, I always want the best. I always want the best opportunity. I always want to be playing with the best.

• 49:56Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 49:56Speaker 01

And, uh, I want the best competition. And so I was like, no, I'm, I'm not accepting a full ride scholarship. I want to go walk on and earn my spot and I'm willing to go into school debt for this because, uh, I, I just want this opportunity. And so, uh, did that. And when I was working out of the coffee shop, there was a lot of people who were like, dang, like you could have actually been a, maybe a star at Appalachian State. You could have actually pant, you could have played immediately, maybe.

• 50:26Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 50:26Speaker 01

Uh, so there was a lot of that and a lot of, uh, just what are you doing? The people who were closest, closest to me, they, they just trusted because they knew. But the mindset was I believe I could do whatever I want in my life. Anything. And it's not because I'm the smartest. I'm not the smartest person in the room by far. But.

• 50:51Cameron Hanes?

Well, in this room you are, but.

• 50:53Speaker 01

Well, I mean, I'm over there the smartest.

• 50:55Cameron Hanes?

Okay, you're second smartest. That's pretty good. You're on the podium.

• 50:59Speaker 01

But you said, you said something.

• 51:02Speaker 01

That's crazy. You, you said something to me on that run today.

• 51:05Cameron Hanes?

  Huh.

• 51:05Speaker 01

Uh, when I was carrying that rock and I was, you know, 20 minutes in, you said, you got heart kid.

• 51:12Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 51:13Speaker 01

And that's the main, that's the only ingredient I need.

• 51:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 51:17Speaker 01

  In anything.

• 51:17Cameron Hanes?

And that's the difference maker right there.

• 51:20Speaker 01

  Right there.

• 51:20Cameron Hanes?

  And you have heart.

• 51:21Speaker 01

Yeah. And so I, I don't trust in my, uh,

• 51:30Speaker 01

information I, I know or knowledge or anything else. I trust in my desire to accomplish anything that I want in my life.

• 51:39Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 51:39Speaker 01

And it may look like a crazy decision. You just quit football. You know, the, the, the main thing I heard in that moment was, dude, anybody would die to, to be in your shoes. That's the only thing I heard. People would die to be in those shoes or to get that opportunity or to, whatever. And it's like, man, one, I can't live to please everybody else.

• 52:02Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 52:03Speaker 01

That's not my goal. I'm doing what's best for me and I'm not just going to stick something out and suffer through it because this is a great opportunity for me. Or just because, you know, people would die to be in my shoes. Like that.

• 52:14Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 52:14Speaker 01

  That's, that's a terrible why.

• 52:16Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 52:16Speaker 01

That's a terrible why. And so, um, I stepped away and working out of a coffee shop. That was the mindset. It was, hey, like, I'm going to go put my, my card or, you know, everything in on something else and I trust myself.

• 52:30Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 52:31Speaker 01

I trust myself. I've seen multiple things in my life that have taken a lot of work and it's not overnight. I'm not expecting this to be an overnight success, but I trust that where I want to go, I'm going to get to eventually. And a lot of people, one can't relate to that and they don't understand that. And so they look at my, that situation of me going from, you know, playing at the best school in the country at the time as, as a freshman to working at a coffee shop, making latte art. And they're like, I wouldn't do that. Well, one, you're not me.

• 53:04Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 53:05Speaker 01

And two, I believe in myself and I'm going to go do what I want and what I love. And at the time it was CrossFit over football. And. Uh, so I just went all in on that because I trusted myself.

• 53:18Cameron Hanes?

Hmm. Yeah. Well, I mean, it sounds great, but where did this trust come from? You said you've listened like it's worked out a couple of times, but when have you always believed in yourself even as a kid? Could tell me about like, where did this trust and and have been able to see the bigger picture? Where did this?

• 53:38Speaker 01

Yeah. So I I've always prided myself on always being the hardest worker in the room. And I'm the most competitive and uh, that confidence came through that work. Like I was always willing to work the hardest. I was always willing to put in the extra hours. I was always, I always was doing more and more and more and more to push the needle farther than everybody else.

• 54:05Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 54:05Speaker 01

And so I saw the results of all that. And then when, so when, when I get into that coffee shop moment, it's like, hey, I know that if I just work my tail off, I can get to where I'm going.

• 54:21Cameron Hanes?

I can own this coffee shop.

• 54:22Speaker 01

  I can own this.

• 54:25Speaker 01

Exactly. That's my thing. And honestly, there have been, I I was able to look back on my life and say, you know what? I've I've accomplished a few things. Obviously, I was young. I haven't accomplished a lot of things, but there were a few things that I worked extremely hard for that I saw compound over time.

• 54:42Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 54:42Speaker 01

Because I put in the work and work compounds.

• 54:45Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 54:45Speaker 01

It compounds physically, but also mentally. When you, when you see something play out the way that we want to, it's like a, it's a deposit of self-confidence.

• 54:54Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 54:54Speaker 01

And then you take that into the next thing and you you accomplish another thing that you've worked hard for. Deposit of self-confidence. And so now I'm in this coffee shop and I'm rich with confidence.

• 55:02Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, you're invincible.

• 55:03Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah. And so now it's just like, man, I could, no one's stopping me.

• 55:07Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 55:08Speaker 01

And so you just keep going and and making just deposits and those deposits are because of habits and disciplines. And when no one's looking, just working hard, doing, doing the right things when no one's watching. Integrity and uh, learning.

• 55:26Cameron Hanes?

Where did the integrity part come from? Where'd you learn that? Have you just always done, been like a good kid?

• 55:32Speaker 01

I don't know. I've uh, well, that'd be, I became. That part came when I gave my life to Christ. Yeah, when I was sixteen years old.

• 55:41Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 55:41Speaker 01

Yeah, so I gave my life to Christ when I was sixteen years old and started reading the Bible. And there was a lot of people within the church who kind of brought me in, older, older guys, and taught me this kind of stuff. Who are you when no one's watching? What are you, what are you doing in the dark? And that was kind of like the, the MO for me. And so that's where I kind of learned that. But no, I was, I'm a, I'm not a rule follower. I was not a great kid growing up. If you told me not to do something, the first thing I'm thinking is, I'm doing that. That's all I wanted, that's all I was thinking about.

• 56:15Cameron Hanes?

What, what happened at sixteen, though?

• 56:18Speaker 01

I wanted to live in a way that aligned with the, the ways of the Lord, Jesus.

• 56:25Cameron Hanes?

Was that just, that was on your heart? Or did somebody influence you somehow?

• 56:31Speaker 01

  Both.

• 56:31Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 56:32Speaker 01

Yeah, I saw the way other people were living their life.

• 56:34Cameron Hanes?

You said the, the men at the church?

• 56:35Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 56:35Cameron Hanes?

And you're like, I want to be like that.

• 56:37Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 56:37Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 56:38Speaker 01

So there were, there were guys, and also just diving into that, I knew that, hey, man, the, my past is, it's not crazy, but there were some things that I'm like, you know, I don't like the way I, I was moving.

• 56:50Cameron Hanes?

  It made you feel.

• 56:51Speaker 01

Yeah, I like the way, I don't like the, I don't like the way what this made me feel. I don't like the way, you know, I was to this person. Or I don't like the way, you know, I was given this, this like vibe in person, in public, but in private, I'm like, not operating like that. And I didn't like the, it just didn't add up. Like, I didn't, I didn't like how that made me feel. And so when I was sixteen, I, I needed to, you know, figure this out. And there was guys in my life that I owe a lot to, who kind of liked, went first on that and showed me what a godly life looks like. And so I would say that is how I've started, you know, growing that integrity aspect of it.

• 57:35Speaker 01

And it obviously translated into the work part and the fitness part. It was like, hey, like. When no one's watching and the cameras aren't on, are you who you say you are?

• 57:46Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 57:46Speaker 01

  Like, do you love pain?

• 57:48Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 57:49Speaker 01

When it's just you and nobody else?

• 57:52Cameron Hanes?

  And pain.

• 57:53Speaker 01

  And pain.

• 57:54Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 57:54Speaker 01

Are you, are you actually inviting it in?

• 57:56Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, right.

• 57:57Speaker 01

And there's accountability there because then it's like, if I say it on camera, but then I don't do it. It's like, man, now I'm feeling pretty bad about myself because I'm all talk. Yeah, I'm a fraud.

• 58:09Cameron Hanes?

And what I, I've been in that situation too, and I'm, I'm saying everything you're supposed to say. I'm acting how you're supposed to act, but then I go, I'm in the bathroom and I look in the mirror and I'm like,

• 58:23Cameron Hanes?

  you can't lie to yourself.

• 58:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's right.

• 58:25Cameron Hanes?

You can pretend and some people lie to themselves, but try to lie, but you can't.

• 58:31Speaker 01

  Right.

• 58:32Cameron Hanes?

You see, I am not, I'm not who I pretending I am.

• 58:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 58:37Cameron Hanes?

Then like I've, I've definitely wrestled with that too, because we know we're supposed to do. But I do think that I do feel better when I go to church, when I read the Bible. It does feel, it feels right. It doesn't mean like, I don't, sometimes I'm in church and I'm just like, man, I wish this was, I wish I just was doing, I just want to be the person I'm supposed to be.

• 59:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:05Cameron Hanes?

And, uh, and you like are wrestling in that moment sometimes, you know, and then sometimes I'm like, man, I feel so good. I feel like I've, I'm actually doing, acting and, and carrying myself and being the Christian I'm supposed to be.

• 59:20Speaker 01

  Right.

• 59:21Cameron Hanes?

  But it's like, it's hard.

• 59:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:23Cameron Hanes?

Changes sometimes, but uh, yeah, okay. I was just curious about.

• 59:28Speaker 01

Yeah. So what were we talking about before that? The integrity part?

• 59:34Cameron Hanes?

We're talking about like, you know, you've just had belief in yourself that.

• 59:38Speaker 01

  Oh, the coffee shop days.

• 59:40Cameron Hanes?

Well, okay, that, that reminded me of something. No, but so that's a unique.

• 59:47Cameron Hanes?

Uh, I don't know if it's a perspective. I don't know whether it is, but anyway, to go from being a cause when you play football at a school like that, you're a star. If you're on the team, you're, you're like, people look up to you, right? It's uh, you're special, right? Then you're at the coffee shop and e- even just you caring about the learning the latte art, you know, you know, most guys, they would be like, God, this sucks. I can't believe I'm making, you know, they're not, they don't care about learning how to do this, but you're actually like, I don't play football anymore. I work here and I need to know how to do this, but that's rare.

• 1:00:24Speaker 01

No, for sure. And uh, yeah, I learned, and this is one of the things that Coach Sweeney at football at Clemson always said, bloom where you're planted.

• 1:00:33Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:00:34Speaker 01

And that was an opportunity for me.

• 1:00:36Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, at the coffee shop, you gotta bloom.

• 1:00:39Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm just gonna bloom here. And I know where I want to be in the future. And I understand the processes that are gonna, there's a long time between reality and where I want to go. And it's not gonna happen overnight. But if I could just be bloom where I'm planted and trust that the, the best part of all stories is the process. And I don't want to get discouraged because of how far it goes back to the, how, if you peek up on that mountain, when you have that rock, you're gonna be discouraged. I could look at the my, the distance in between that coffee shop and winning the CrossFit games and be like,

• 1:01:24Speaker 01

dang, that's like, that's nine years.

• 1:01:26Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:27Speaker 01

Do I have the, the, the patience?

• 1:01:30Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, cause you already said you don't want to wait four years to play football.

• 1:01:33Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:01:35Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:36Speaker 01

And it goes back in the mindset of like, Uh, like, just take one year at a time. You know, when you told me we're running eighteen miles?

• 1:01:44Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, what?

• 1:01:45Speaker 01

You know, you told me, you know what I thought about when you told me that? We're not doing that. We're running one mile eighteen times.

• 1:01:50Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:01:51Speaker 01

That was like, the first, that, like, that's how you gotta, like, go about it, and that's your approach.

• 1:01:56Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:56Speaker 01

Uh, because if you think, oh, I'm running eighteen miles, and I look at my watch, and I'm six miles in, and I'm hurting, and I've never run past eight. I'm like, oh, my goodness.

• 1:02:07Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:08Speaker 01

You know, but if I go, hey, I'm running this, I'm running one mile, which I've done plenty of times.

• 1:02:12Cameron Hanes?

  Yep.

• 1:02:13Speaker 01

You know, weekly, I can do that eighteen times.

• 1:02:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:16Speaker 01

I've done it all my life.

• 1:02:17Cameron Hanes?

  Right. Yeah.

• 1:02:19Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:02:19Cameron Hanes?

I mean, it's, you know, when you explain it, it, it sounds simple. It's simple, not easy. That's that saying.

• 1:02:27Speaker 01

So, so I answer your question, I was, yeah, I, and honestly, I didn't really know.

• 1:02:32Speaker 01

You know, there was, there was a lot of things that, you know, I wasn't really, when I was working at that coffee shop, I wasn't sure that it was all gonna play out how I was visualizing it. I just knew that if I stuck with it, it was gonna be all right. Like, it might not, it, it might not look how, you know, how it was looking up here. It might not look like the dream, how I got it all, you know, pretty. Uh, but I knew that, hey, man, you're all right. Why? Because I keep, I keep going. I keep going. And you know what? If, if, if five years into this process, I get a new desire and something else catching my, my eye, and I wanna be the, the best bow hunter ever.

• 1:03:14Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:15Speaker 01

Then I'm going there. I'm going there. And, um.

• 1:03:18Cameron Hanes?

  Excuse me?

• 1:03:24Speaker 01

  No, but for real.

• 1:03:26Cameron Hanes?

I want you to be. Be probably.

• 1:03:30Speaker 01

  No, I want to.

• 1:03:31Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

  After.

• 1:03:32Cameron Hanes?

  All right.

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

  Not right now.

• 1:03:34Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:03:36Speaker 01

But yeah, so I've I've always been that way and uh yeah, I think uh I just have a I guess a I don't know why it's unique. But I have a unique ability to kind of just understand the processes of things and maybe I learned that in in sports. Maybe, you know, if I was trying to progress in football or baseball, I under I understood there were a lot of details and there were a lot of things that uh building blocks that needed to happen. You weren't gonna be the best receiver overnight. You weren't gonna have the best agility or feet. It was gonna be you showing up every single day, learning how to, you know, work on your craft when it came to running routes

• 1:04:17Speaker 01

or whatever that looked like. And I understood that over time, reps on reps on reps, perfect practice makes perfect. People always say, hey, you know, practice makes perfect. Right. Well, if you go through the motions in that practice and you get the opportunity to perfect it and you've just been going through the motions, it's not gonna it's not gonna work out for you. Uh so I've always had that mentality of like, this is I want this game like. And that was honestly how I I don't know why, maybe, I don't know why I've always been that way, but you know, when I was running routes on air with no quarterback in high school, because you know, maybe a quarterback didn't want to throw to me or he wasn't available on Christmas Day. And I was like, I gotta get these routes in. And yeah, I go run these routes like. By yourself.

• 1:05:00Speaker 01

Like, yeah, like somebody was in front of me and I was, you know, catching the ball and turn that field and going to the end zone every time. Or and like that, I don't know where that came from. But it was it came from, I guess it came from just this deep desire to just for excellence. To be great. And I like I I I'm whatever, like I said, I'm an extremist and whatever I put my mind to, I'm obsessed with it. Right. I'm obsessed with it and. Uh, that's why I'm one day I'm gonna be the best bow hunter.

• 1:05:31Cameron Hanes?

I love it. Well, I love it. It's a, yeah, that's, I mean, it's so unique to have that mindset. It does remind me of Truitt a little bit. He's talked about his marathon stuff. And people love to like, he say, well, I want to go for my PR. He doesn't get it. Then there's a lot of people, he's like, guys, it doesn't matter. I didn't get it this time. I'm gonna get it.

• 1:05:53Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:05:54Cameron Hanes?

And then I'm gonna beat that one.

• 1:05:56Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:05:56Cameron Hanes?

And we're not done. This is not over.

• 1:05:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:59Cameron Hanes?

Because he chased the pull-ups for years, you know, so it's like that, being in the long game, like, eventually it's gonna work out. Cause I'm just gonna work too hard. I'm gonna be undeniable. I mean, that's the whole point to the title of the book is like, you work so hard, success is undeniable. It's gonna happen. And it's just, you know, because you're just working too hard and you're too obsessed for it not to, but um, yeah, I love that. I don't know.

• 1:06:27Speaker 01

You just gotta, you just gotta stick it through.

• 1:06:29Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it, I know. That's hard to do, dude.

• 1:06:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:32Cameron Hanes?

It's, you know, life gets in the way and life distracts people and.

• 1:06:35Speaker 01

And I think that it comes back to your why.

• 1:06:37Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 1:06:39Speaker 01

  It's like.

• 1:06:40Cameron Hanes?

But that's also easy to say, like, what's your why? Everybody knows what you're supposed to say and whatever, but it's here. It's like, how do you control that?

• 1:06:48Speaker 01

If you have a why and you don't see it through, then it really wasn't your why.

• 1:06:51Cameron Hanes?

Right. But everybody says, cause that's like kind of a cliche thing, what's your why? And everybody says, they say the right things, but you live it. You know what I mean? Words are so easy to say. It's just like the actions. Um, okay. I'm curious, uh, kind of transitioning off that, but what is, you know, as a current champion, now what, what's your goals? What's your goals in life and competition? Uh, do you want to be the most decorated champion ever? What's your goal? I want to hear it.

• 1:07:22Speaker 01

Um, I, so I got into CrossFit. The first thing I said was, hey, I want to win the CrossFit Games. That's all I said.

• 1:07:33Speaker 01

Nothing. All the CrossFit fans are gonna hate this.

• 1:07:37Cameron Hanes?

  That's alright.

• 1:07:37Speaker 01

They're gonna say I'd have no chance to ever win again.

• 1:07:41Speaker 01

The first goal was never to win the most. It wasn't to win twice. It wasn't any of that.

• 1:07:48Cameron Hanes?

  Just to win.

• 1:07:49Speaker 01

  It was just a win.

• 1:07:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:50Speaker 01

And so I'd set, like, that was the path. I accomplished it. And, but it goes back to when I laid that rock down. The first thing I thought about was, I wanted 26.

• 1:08:02Cameron Hanes?

What did I leave on the table?

• 1:08:03Speaker 01

What did I leave on the table? And so when I won the CrossFit Games after one, the first one, in August,

• 1:08:13Speaker 01

  I want two.

• 1:08:16Cameron Hanes?

  When did that feeling?

• 1:08:18Speaker 01

It wasn't, it's not to be the most decorated. It's not to win three or four. It was just a, like I said, I'm, I'm in the present. I just know right now, I want to win again.

• 1:08:28Cameron Hanes?

You can't win seven this year.

• 1:08:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, I can't.

• 1:08:31Cameron Hanes?

  Right, I get it.

• 1:08:32Speaker 01

I just can't. And I would say it took a few months. Took a few months because when I got back from the Games, man, it was like, I had a competition for, I had another competition in a few weeks. And it was so challenging to be like, man, I, I've been working hard for this since 2017.

• 1:09:00Cameron Hanes?

  That's a grind.

• 1:09:01Speaker 01

It's a grind. There was a lot, I got cut at the CrossFit Games. There's been a lot of ups and downs. It hasn't, I haven't been smooth sailing through this process. There's been a lot of hiccups along the way. And when I achieved that, I, I just needed a moment to be like, man, like, just appreciate everything that's gone into this. And it was, it would have been so easy and I just, I kinda just like took a step back and like, watched how everything else in the space was moving. And it was like, people are just moving on. Like, sure, I'm the champion, but we're on to the next competition. All the other athletes moving on. And that's just how life is.

• 1:09:38Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:38Speaker 01

And I would say like, like those three months were challenging because it was like, now what? Now what like uh do I keep training?

• 1:09:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:50Speaker 01

Like I don't I accomplish I honestly, when we were in the sauna, it goes back to like the why. When a lot of these, you know, baseball players or athletes, their why is, you know, to make a living or to get out of a rough situation to get paid and they do, you see their work ethic just tank.

• 1:10:11Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, cuz they got their why done.

• 1:10:12Speaker 01

  They got their why done.

• 1:10:13Cameron Hanes?

  That was it.

• 1:10:13Speaker 01

That was it. And so I got done with the CrossFit Games. I was like, I got my why done.

• 1:10:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:18Speaker 01

But I have a lot of whys. It wasn't, I'm not necessarily results oriented in that way. To be like, my whole life revolves around winning the CrossFit Games. One of the biggest, like, one of my whys is I love winning. And that was winning the CrossFit Games. But there was, there are other, other things that, purposes that I have that I had to lean into. Um, and one of those was this sense of just accomplishment for myself. I've always pushed my body and my mind to the limits because I want to see what I'm made of. I, I just want, I just want to see what I'm capable of. And I want to see how far I can push the needle on that.

• 1:11:02Speaker 01

And when I got home, I was just so fixated on the results of like, this was my why of winning the CrossFit Games. And I accomplished it, but I wasn't really tapping into. I, I love this because I get to see what I'm made of. I do this because it's for me. I do this because I love it. And this, it isn't based on results. And so there, there were two things that I had to like clear up in my head and in my heart. And it took me about three months. And now it clicked and I was like, man, like, I don't do this. I don't necessarily do this only because I want to win the CrossFit Games. I want to do this because, one, I love fitness.

• 1:11:46Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:47Speaker 01

I love fitness and I want to do this because I love being great. And being great doesn't mean always standing on podiums.

• 1:11:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:53Speaker 01

  And so I'm gonna.

• 1:11:54Cameron Hanes?

What does being great mean if it's not that?

• 1:11:59Speaker 01

I think being great looks different for everybody and only you really know. You only you really only know what that definition, I guess, is for you.

• 1:12:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:10Speaker 01

And you, like you said, you got to look yourself in the mirror.

• 1:12:12Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:12:12Speaker 01

  Did you give greatness today?

• 1:12:14Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, are other people saying you're great and you know you're not because you you're dealing with, you know, you know.

• 1:12:19Speaker 01

You could say I'm great and it doesn't matter what you think.

• 1:12:23Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:12:23Speaker 01

My my interpretation of my life is the only reality.

• 1:12:27Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:28Speaker 01

Like what like how I'm seeing reality is the only thing that matters. You could say I'm the greatest ever, but if I don't think that, then what's your opinion?

• 1:12:38Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:38Speaker 01

It doesn't have nothing to do with me and so I don't think I'm the greatest ever.

• 1:12:42Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:12:43Speaker 01

By a long stretch, I know my weaknesses.

• 1:12:45Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:12:45Speaker 01

Both in sport and in life. And so when I'm in this pursuit of greatness, it's a like I'm constantly chasing it.

• 1:12:53Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:12:54Speaker 01

  Um, but.

• 1:12:58Speaker 01

I, like I said, I I think it looks different for everybody. Um, and you got to be pretty self aware about what that looks like and I don't want to. It's it's iffy subject because you could say, oh, I gave greatness today and it's like, that was not. That was not like that's pretty, that's a pretty subjective area. Um, to talk about, but, uh, yeah, I don't, I don't. Like I said, I think my why is I I want to win again. I know that and they told me about three months to like figure that out because. Um, I just had to, I was like sitting in it and I was thinking about it like, hey, if I if I, there's no way that. Because another thing I was like, I didn't want to win and just coast.

• 1:13:42Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:13:42Speaker 01

I didn't want, I'm not, I don't want to show up to next competition and just be like. Hey, I did the hardest thing. I did the thing that everybody else does as it's still trying to do. Like, it doesn't really matter how I show up to this next competition. It doesn't matter how I've done the thing.

• 1:13:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:55Speaker 01

Like, I don't want to be that guy.

• 1:13:56Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:13:57Speaker 01

  Like, that's not who I want. I don't want, I'm not a soft person.

• 1:14:00Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:14:00Speaker 01

And I'm so like disgusted with that and but at the same time.

• 1:14:08Speaker 01

There were moments after the, immediately after the games where I was tempted with those thoughts. Where I was like, you know what, like I did the thing and yeah, like I don't, I don't want to train. Where I'd go through, I'd go, you know, I'd go for a run and I didn't want to push. And it's like, man, like, hold on, we need to, we need to, we need to have a sit down with ourself and talk about what's about to happen. Because I'd be damned if I'm doing this for the whole year.

• 1:14:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:34Speaker 01

Yeah, this ain't gonna, this ain't gonna be how it plays out.

• 1:14:38Cameron Hanes?

It's like a half ass effort.

• 1:14:39Speaker 01

I ain't getting cut at the next game.

• 1:14:41Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:43Speaker 01

So I would say, yeah, I would say, uh, the goal is I'm extremely obsessed with, again, what greatness looks like for me. And for me personally, that looks like just going as hard as you can in everything. Like maximizing the talent, stewarding it well, stewarding the, the God gifted skills that I have. Like he's given me the ability to do this athletically. He's given me strength, like I didn't, like, yes, I was, I was born with genetics that had nothing to, that had nothing to do with my work. I was just, it was just talent.

• 1:15:24Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:24Speaker 01

  God gifted.

• 1:15:27Speaker 01

What does, what does it look like for me to steward that?

• 1:15:29Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:15:30Speaker 01

What does it look like for me to worship God with this, with this skill? Because I believe that pursuing excellence and stewarding that is my worship in a way. Like there's other, obviously that's not the only thing I'm worshiping. But in a way, God has given me this ability and I want to honor him through that. And so when I'm, you know, running up that hill or we're doing whatever, fill in the blank, like that's my worship. Like that's my way of like honoring the gifts that he's given me and stewarding them well. At the same time, I want to win. Because I'm a competitor and that's, that's what I'm, I've always been this way. At the same time, I want to push my body to the extreme limits.

• 1:16:13Speaker 01

And so all of these things are affecting. What, what is happening in training?

• 1:16:20Cameron Hanes?

Right. Yeah, it's a, it reminds me too of another why it could be for you. Cause you remind that you explained that reminded me of Roy would always say that he was, he had hunting talents and gifts from God that he was bestowed upon, which would allow him to talk to people he wouldn't otherwise be able to because as what he would say as hunters, you know, it's very hard to earn respect. It's hard to get men to listen to you. Why do they listen to you? What have you done? Why should I care what you think? But he was there very successful in the mountains, very tough, very, and he would know that

• 1:17:00Cameron Hanes?

hunting was his missions field. That was his way to open doors, to talk to people about his faith.

• 1:17:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:08Cameron Hanes?

And to talk to them. So it was, he was taking advantage of his gifts to also spread the word.

• 1:17:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:14Cameron Hanes?

And that's, that reminds me that too, because that's another way you could impact others.

• 1:17:20Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 1:17:20Cameron Hanes?

You know, society, you get, you win this and now all of a sudden people are paying attention. You're the shiny thing and now you can say whatever you want and it's going to mean more.

• 1:17:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:30Cameron Hanes?

  Because you're the champion.

• 1:17:31Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:17:32Cameron Hanes?

But what are you saying? Are you saying people, things that'll help somebody's eternal salvation? Or are you saying whatever? I don't know what, but yeah, so that's an opportunity also.

• 1:17:41Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 1:17:42Cameron Hanes?

  To be great.

• 1:17:42Speaker 01

For sure. And there have been, you know, opportunities to do that, but I've, I've kind of always been against pushing that on people.

• 1:17:51Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:17:52Speaker 01

Um, you know, I've always grew up and, you know, had a very distasteful,

• 1:17:59Speaker 01

always distasted people like pushing that on me. I'd rather see that lived out in your life.

• 1:18:04Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:04Speaker 01

Like the best way to preach the gospel is in your home.

• 1:18:07Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:08Speaker 01

  Like, how you living?

• 1:18:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:10Speaker 01

  How you treating your wife?

• 1:18:11Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:18:11Speaker 01

Um, like that's the way, when that's what got me was like, man. That dude has a lot of respect for his wife.

• 1:18:18Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:18:19Speaker 01

The way he honors her, that's like, I've never seen that before.

• 1:18:23Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:23Speaker 01

The way he's talking to her.

• 1:18:24Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:18:25Speaker 01

Like, I've never seen that before. And that was kind of like what pulled me in.

• 1:18:29Cameron Hanes?

  Gotcha.

• 1:18:29Speaker 01

It wasn't, hey dude, you're going to hell if you don't accept Jesus.

• 1:18:33Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:33Speaker 01

Um, and a lot of people are like that. And I'm not saying, I'm not saying, I'm not saying there's not a time for that.

• 1:18:38Cameron Hanes?

I never knew Roy was preaching. He was like, I never felt that.

• 1:18:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:18:42Cameron Hanes?

You know, but he carried himself in a way. And then he, I would ask questions, then he, so it was, because you can push people off.

• 1:18:50Speaker 01

  You can.

• 1:18:50Cameron Hanes?

Or you can live a life that makes people drawn to that.

• 1:18:54Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:18:55Cameron Hanes?

And they want to know more about it. And that's, I think that's the impact that was made on you.

• 1:19:00Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:19:00Cameron Hanes?

And that make, that makes sense to me also.

• 1:19:02Speaker 01

I think the best way to preach the gospel is how you love your wife.

• 1:19:06Cameron Hanes?

Mm hmm. That's a good, I like that.

• 1:19:08Speaker 01

Because at the end of the day, Christ died for the bride, the church.

• 1:19:12Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:12Speaker 01

His, like, we are showing the world kind of the gospel through how we walk through marriage.

• 1:19:20Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that's, I hadn't heard that before. I need to think about that. I like that.

• 1:19:25Speaker 01

Yeah, so, um, and like I said, I've, I'm, like I said, I'm extremist. And so there have been, you know, I'm, I'm a theology head.

• 1:19:36Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:19:37Speaker 01

Like I've, I've read a lot of books, you know, I've read systematic theology, a thousand pages, front and cover. Uh, because anything, I guess that anything that I do, anything that I want to know, I want to go all in on.

• 1:19:51Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:19:52Speaker 01

And so when I became a Christian, that was something that I tapped into a lot.

• 1:19:56Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:19:57Speaker 01

Was theology and, you know, the Bible and like studying that stuff. And I was definitely dabbling in that a lot. And, uh, like I said, um, I never wanted to, to push that on people.

• 1:20:10Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:20:11Speaker 01

Um, because I'm not about religion. I'm about loving the Lord and making a relationship. And when you make it about you're gonna get it love from God if you do X, Y, and Z, then that's not.

• 1:20:29Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, it's works, not faith.

• 1:20:31Speaker 01

That's not it at all. Like when, when Truitt was two years old and he did something wrong.

• 1:20:39Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:39Speaker 01

You weren't pissed off. You knew he was a child.

• 1:20:41Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:42Speaker 01

And it's the same, it's the exact same thing. And so I'm not saying, you know, just go off and do whatever you want.

• 1:20:48Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, no, I understand.

• 1:20:49Speaker 01

When you're in a relationship and you are, you know, walking with the Lord, you, you see him. And if you truly love him, there is a, there's a pure adoration to be like him. There is a desire to like, live like that. Um, and uh, yeah. So I would say like, I've, I've always been against like the whole religion thing and uh, stuff like that. I just wanna, you know, I wanna do my, and I'm not perfect at this, by the way.

• 1:21:18Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:21:19Speaker 01

Like I said, I'm not a rule follower and I didn't grow up in church and I wouldn't say I had the cleanest past. But I would say the, what I'm learning is how to kind of show people the uh, kind of show people what that looks like with my life.

• 1:21:35Cameron Hanes?

Hmm. Yeah. Yeah. That's powerful. I love that. I mean, I like, I like this discussion. I didn't anticipate this. So you talk about like, you asked at dinner, like, what are we gonna talk about? And I'm like, I have no idea, dude. I mean, we've been talking for hours.

• 1:21:51Speaker 01

I know. You wasted all our conversations.

• 1:21:53Cameron Hanes?

We did. No, no, no. This is, to me, I'm better at stuff like this when I have a relationship with somebody. Just, it's like, if I come in cold and I always say like, Rogan can do that. He's just like, can just talk. And but I think he does research, so he knows about, I'm better when I spend time, when I suffer with people. Then I really have, I feel like I understand.

• 1:22:17Cameron Hanes?

You know, a story that has nothing to do with anything I know about, I understand it more because I understand you.

• 1:22:24Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:22:24Cameron Hanes?

In a different, at a, kind of in a different level or a different place. It's, anyway, just, I like, that's why I like doing the lift, run, shoot, and then the podcast after, which you'd think like, I don't know what I'm, I mean, we've been talking for days.

• 1:22:37Speaker 01

  And we're tired.

• 1:22:38Cameron Hanes?

And we're tired and, and still, it's just like, it just works better.

• 1:22:43Speaker 01

  Yeah, it does.

• 1:22:43Cameron Hanes?

And, um, this conversation is, has been, I didn't anticipate any, really, well, some of it, but not most of it, and that's cool.

• 1:22:53Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:22:54Cameron Hanes?

I mean, how, how lucky are we to be able to be at a place in life to where you, we can sit across the table from each other, share, share ideas or thoughts or experiences, learn and grow, and just be at a place where we can absorb

• 1:23:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:10Cameron Hanes?

different, different things like, or different perspectives we didn't think about. It's like, you have to be at a place in life to where that makes sense and that works.

• 1:23:18Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:23:18Cameron Hanes?

And you're not distracted by different things. So I, I feel very fortunate to be, to have the, the time we had with everybody today and yesterday, and to have this time with you at the podcast table. It's, uh, you know, I, I always said I hated doing podcasts because I just, I'm like to train just by myself or whatever, but I'm so thankful that I do a podcast just for moments like this.

• 1:23:45Speaker 01

How long, how deep are we in this?

• 1:23:47Cameron Hanes?

Well, it's like an hour, hour fifteen. Yeah, one fifteen.

• 1:23:49Speaker 01

Yeah. You said your goal was an hour?

• 1:23:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah, no, it always, dude, it always works out. I don't know why, but we always have, I feel like, cool shit to talk about.

• 1:24:01Speaker 01

So, I guess my, how do I become the best bow hunter in the world?

• 1:24:06Cameron Hanes?

Time. It's just like, anything, anything you've done, it's just reps, it's.

• 1:24:11Speaker 01

But I know nothing about any of this.

• 1:24:13Cameron Hanes?

  Better get going then.

• 1:24:16Cameron Hanes?

So as I said, I've been hunting since I was 15. So that's 43 years. I still it's again, your mindset. I still try to learn every time I go out. Every time I go out, I'm like, can I be more in tune? Can I be more aware? Can I be more observant? Can I be, all those words probably mean the same thing, but that's just me being an idiot. But I'm trying to be like, how can I interpret what's going on at a higher level to where I can understand what this animal's thinking or what it wants to do, or what, how it is going to feed today, or where it's going to bed. It's like, how I'm reacting to the wind, how, how aware I am of the conditions that are changing as the sun moves, the shadows. I can always get better. How I walk, how I carry myself, how

• 1:25:01Cameron Hanes?

quick I move. It's a never ending process. So I would say, for you, get in the woods. I mean, it's just, it starts every time you go in the woods. It starts every time you start thinking about something like, I'm even driving, if I see a cow or a horse out there, I'm thinking about body position for if that was a big bull elk. And or if I get out, like when we got out of the mountain today, I automatically feel the wind. I'm like, oh, wind's coming left to right. If there's an animal over here, I got him. If the animal's over here, he's downwind, he smells me. So I'm like, always looking, gauging different things, different factors like that. But the more, when you have a hunter's mindset, you look at everything different.

• 1:25:44Speaker 01

  Alright.

• 1:25:44Cameron Hanes?

Everything, the, the nature is different, because you're thinking about it as a predator, and you're looking for prey. And that's what we're designed to do. That's what, that's how we've survived, you know, all these years, is we have to be good. Because the people who aren't good and aren't observant, they're dead, they're gone. I mean, nowadays, you know, life is so easy and so controlled. You can be the biggest POS ever, you're probably still going to be okay. There was a time when you couldn't get away with that. You had to be aware and at your best to survive and to provide for your family. I love having that mindset still. Yes, it's a different time, but.

• 1:26:26Cameron Hanes?

That that is still powerful to learn and then and I there's no greater feeling. We had elk burgers tonight from a bull I killed. I'd love.

• 1:26:39Speaker 01

  Amazing burgers.

• 1:26:40Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, my wife did a great job. She always does. She's never hunted, but she's done a definitely masters the cooking part. But there's the fellowship about of sitting around a table. And I'm sharing a kill in an animal I harvested with friends. We're being refueled from a huge effort of the day, nursing our bodies. To me, that's how life is supposed to be lived. What hunting, providing meat on the table, friends, fellowship, hard work, recovering, conversation, this is life. This is pure living. This is what life is supposed to be.

• 1:27:23Cameron Hanes?

All this distraction, all this BS, all this Pornhub, all this stuff, that's not real. That's not life. That's distracting you from the life you should you should be living. Today, what I explained, that's how we're supposed to live. As men, that's how we provide. That's that's the example we set for a family. So if you're not doing that, it's never too late. You know, I mean, Jolly Roll has changed his life in a year, two years, you know, from 540 pounds to running a 10K. If he can do that and kill it, kill a buck with a bow, if he can do that, you're not at 540 pounds. You're way ahead of that. You can make that same change. You can make the same type of change. Now, maybe not the exact change. Not everybody needs to hunt, but hey, there's nothing wrong with

• 1:28:08Cameron Hanes?

with fellowship with fellow men around the around the table and pushing each other and training. There's nothing wrong with that. That's only going to make you stronger, a stronger leader, a stronger husband, a stronger father. So yet today for me is if I write down the most perfect day that I could have to live, today would be it. This is it. This is what I love to do.

• 1:28:34Speaker 01

Bang. Today was a perfect day.

• 1:28:36Cameron Hanes?

Perfect day. It's like, I think, uh, I think, yeah, Rick was filming me running on that road. He said something and I'm like, I live for this. This is what this I live for. This is what I live for. Running hard, training with you, doing this, like making like.

• 1:28:56Cameron Hanes?

In the in the cold, but it's sunny. It's just like,

• 1:28:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:28:59Cameron Hanes?

  It's pure. It's real.

• 1:29:01Speaker 01

Yeah, that's right. I would say that's like the it's it kind of it's about the process.

• 1:29:06Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:29:07Speaker 01

It's about like these days that like they just they stack up and this is where the living is. This is where the satisfaction is. It's not, yeah, being on the top of the podium or, you know, doing, you know, killing killing or

• 1:29:23Cameron Hanes?

  A big bull.

• 1:29:24Speaker 01

  Killing the elk like

• 1:29:25Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:25Speaker 01

  That that's the achievement.

• 1:29:27Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:29:27Speaker 01

But it's about like everything that goes into that process, learning how to do that. Yeah. Learning the technique, learning the the all the all the stuff. Um, you look back and you're like, man, like,

• 1:29:43Speaker 01

I enjoyed what it took to get there more than I enjoyed the actual moment of being there.

• 1:29:50Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah, it's the journey. I mean, if that's another cliche, it's a journey, not the destination, but it's a there's so much truth to it. I mean, because I even think about, so you say you want to be the greatest bow hunter ever. That's I I I'm I'm down because you know where it starts? You had a bow, but watching you yesterday in the bow rack and we're going through the process, we're working with the guys, you're getting dialed in with the bow. That's all valuable time.

• 1:30:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:30:19Cameron Hanes?

And that's that's how we grow. That's, you know, it's it's a new endeavor. You haven't hunted much. You haven't shot your bow much. But you're immersed in it.

• 1:30:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:30:30Cameron Hanes?

And you can't get until you're immersed in something, you can't ever master it.

• 1:30:33Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:30:33Cameron Hanes?

That's a first step and I love seeing that. It's like Ben. I I also love too, because you know, this sharing, you know, you've been able to meet Taryn, my daughter, and then Tanner, my oldest son.

• 1:30:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:30:46Cameron Hanes?

Because you are, you're a special young man, not just because of your ability.

• 1:30:52Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:30:52Cameron Hanes?

But because of who you are as as a person and and a leader.

• 1:30:57Speaker 01

  Appreciate that.

• 1:30:58Cameron Hanes?

And it's I want I want my family to be impacted by people like you.

• 1:31:04Speaker 01

  I appreciate that.

• 1:31:05Cameron Hanes?

And it's a so to have Tanner be able to come and live and he's got a story. He can go to work tomorrow, just regular. He's like, he got to lift with the CrossFit champion.

• 1:31:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:31:15Cameron Hanes?

That's, I mean, I'm so thankful for that. So I don't know. It was awesome.

• 1:31:19Speaker 01

  Um.

• 1:31:21Speaker 01

You gotta tell people about our initial bet. Hey, Cam's a gambler.

• 1:31:26Cameron Hanes?

No, you're a gambler. You wanted to come up with all the, what was the initial bet?

• 1:31:30Speaker 01

First of all, hey, I'm going to progress as a bow hunter because we're going on a hunt next year.

• 1:31:39Cameron Hanes?

We are, yeah, yeah. We're gonna go on a bear hunt. Yeah, for sure. But what was our first bet?

• 1:31:44Speaker 01

Our first bet was that, uh,

• 1:31:48Speaker 01

I said, Cam, if I'm gonna beat you running. I did not say.

• 1:31:54Speaker 01

That's never, that's how you interpret that.

• 1:31:56Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, okay.

• 1:31:58Speaker 01

I said, hey, if I run 18 miles, the most I've ever ran was eight. If I run 18 miles without stopping,

• 1:32:05Speaker 01

I get your new signature bow that you've had for about one week.

• 1:32:10Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that's right. My AX90. You're gonna steal it from this poor, broken down old man. That's what I heard.

• 1:32:18Speaker 01

  And

• 1:32:20Speaker 01

we, like I said, we went up 2,000 feet of elevation in 20 minutes and had to stop at the top.

• 1:32:29Speaker 01

So the game, the bet is off and I lost.

• 1:32:31Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, but you didn't lose.

• 1:32:34Speaker 01

  I didn't lose because.

• 1:32:35Cameron Hanes?

  You are getting an AX90.

• 1:32:37Speaker 01

That's right. And a bear hunt.

• 1:32:38Cameron Hanes?

And a bear hunt. So no, I, I love sharing, like I said, I love sharing my life. I love somebody who is so addicted to self-improvement and to push, is like, it's, I love it. And, um, I like taking people who understand the gravity of hunting and why I love it and why I, I am, um, so passionate about it. And I think you do.

• 1:33:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:33:02Cameron Hanes?

And, uh, so yeah, it's, um, I don't know.

• 1:33:05Speaker 01

  I'm excited.

• 1:33:06Cameron Hanes?

I've had, I've had an awesome day, dude. It's like, it's crazy because you're the age of my kids. I could be, so I could be your dad, but I still have learned and will grow from this experience and I'm, I'm thankful for that.

• 1:33:19Speaker 01

  Likewise, likewise.

• 1:33:23Cameron Hanes?

So now's the time of the show where Gideon screws it up.

• 1:33:27Speaker 01

  We shutting it down?

• 1:33:28Cameron Hanes?

You know, no, you know, Gideon is a that's in the Bible, obviously. Middle name.

• 1:33:35Speaker 01

  Oh, sick.

• 1:33:36Speaker 02

  I'm a warrior. That's who Gideon is.

• 1:33:39Cameron Hanes?

  A worrier?

• 1:33:40Speaker 02

  A worrier.

• 1:33:41Cameron Hanes?

  You're a worrier.

• 1:33:42Speaker 02

  A worrier.

• 1:33:45Speaker 02

Well, do I actually have to keep it PG? Is that your preference?

• 1:33:50Cameron Hanes?

I think it'd be you want PG.

• 1:33:52Speaker 01

  This is your show.

• 1:33:53Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 1:33:54Speaker 02

  Okay, that was a joke.

• 1:33:55Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 1:33:56Speaker 01

Don't make it right at all.

• 1:33:57Speaker 02

No, I won't, but we always do a segment with guests called Mary Kill. Have you played that game?

• 1:34:04Speaker 01

Are you serious? That is like

• 1:34:07Speaker 01

  infirmature.

• 1:34:09Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. Do you know how this game works? It's not act.

• 1:34:12Speaker 01

Well, of course I know this.

• 1:34:13Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:34:14Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:34:14Speaker 02

So Mary Kill, Cam, me and Rick. No, I'm just kidding.

• 1:34:21Speaker 02

I'm kidding. Okay. So Mary Kill.

• 1:34:26Speaker 01

We just had this great talk about faith.

• 1:34:28Cameron Hanes?

I know. See, we're not perfect.

• 1:34:32Speaker 02

  Especially me.

• 1:34:33Cameron Hanes?

We got some work to do, but he he's got more work than most of us.

• 1:34:36Speaker 02

Yeah, so Mary Kill, the Echo Bike, squat and snatch.

• 1:34:43Speaker 01

  All right.

• 1:34:46Speaker 01

The Echo Bike, snatch, what was that one?

• 1:34:49Speaker 02

  And squat.

• 1:34:50Speaker 01

Oh, what kind of squat? That's like a like a many, a lot of different things.

• 1:34:56Speaker 02

  Let's go.

• 1:34:57Speaker 01

Are we doing air squats? We're maxing out?

• 1:34:58Cameron Hanes?

Oh, no, no, he wants Smith machine, machine squat. That's what he does.

• 1:35:04Speaker 01

That's all he knows. That's all he knows. All right.

• 1:35:07Speaker 02

  I'm gonna. Over overhead squat.

• 1:35:08Speaker 01

  I'm gonna kill.

• 1:35:09Cameron Hanes?

  Overhead squat?

• 1:35:11Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:35:11Cameron Hanes?

Do you know what that is?

• 1:35:12Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:35:14Cameron Hanes?

  Can you do one?

• 1:35:16Speaker 02

  This isn't about me.

• 1:35:18Speaker 01

All right, we're gonna kill, we're gonna kill the overhead squat. Good. And we're gonna F?

• 1:35:23Cameron Hanes?

  That hurts my shoulders.

• 1:35:24Speaker 01

  We're gonna F?

• 1:35:25Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:35:26Speaker 01

  The Echo bike.

• 1:35:27Cameron Hanes?

Okay, so we're gonna marry, what are we marrying? What was that? Snatch?

• 1:35:32Speaker 02

  Snatch.

• 1:35:32Speaker 01

  No squat.

• 1:35:34Cameron Hanes?

  No.

• 1:35:34Speaker 02

  No, overhead squat and snatch.

• 1:35:36Speaker 01

Oh, okay. That's gotta die, the snatch. Bring the overhead squat back to life.

• 1:35:41Cameron Hanes?

  So what squat?

• 1:35:43Speaker 01

  We're marrying.

• 1:35:43Cameron Hanes?

What squat though? You said, you said, no.

• 1:35:46Speaker 01

  He said overhead squat.

• 1:35:47Speaker 02

  Overhead squat.

• 1:35:48Cameron Hanes?

  He doesn't know the.

• 1:35:49Speaker 02

  Rick told me that.

• 1:35:50Speaker 01

  Oh, my gosh.

• 1:35:51Cameron Hanes?

  Did, you did?

• 1:35:52Speaker 01

  All right.

• 1:35:52Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:35:53Speaker 01

  Actually, let's, let's, let's, let's backtrack, let's reset.

• 1:35:56Cameron Hanes?

Okay. How about you pick the three things and then?

• 1:36:00Speaker 01

I'm gonna marry the Echo bike.

• 1:36:02Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:36:02Speaker 02

His nickname is King of the Echo bike.

• 1:36:04Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 1:36:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:36:05Cameron Hanes?

  I didn't know that.

• 1:36:06Speaker 01

Yeah. King of the Echo bike. So I'm gonna marry my queen.

• 1:36:13Speaker 01

Um, I'm going to kill the snatch.

• 1:36:17Cameron Hanes?

  Good.

• 1:36:17Speaker 01

And then I'm going to play with the.

• 1:36:21Cameron Hanes?

  With the?

• 1:36:22Speaker 01

  The overhead squat.

• 1:36:22Cameron Hanes?

Overhead squat, okay. What, what squat, like what squat do you do? Most often?

• 1:36:27Speaker 01

  Every squat.

• 1:36:28Cameron Hanes?

  All of them?

• 1:36:29Speaker 01

Yeah, well, if I'm working on a weakness.

• 1:36:30Cameron Hanes?

So like, oh, tell me how, how many squats are there?

• 1:36:33Speaker 01

  There's a lot, there's, there's a traditional back squat, there's the front squat, there's the overhead squat, there's,

• 1:36:42Speaker 01

I guess that's the, I guess that's the only, there's a lot of squat variations, like if I did a thruster, that would be considered a squat or air squat or

• 1:36:52Speaker 01

variations of stuff. So I would say, what was your question, what my favorite was?

• 1:36:56Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:36:57Speaker 01

Uh, traditional heavy, heavy back squat. But the thing is, we could do a back squat in a workout and it'd be light and it could be three rounds and I have to do this. Uh, back squat at two twenty-five, ten times, and then do the Echo Bike. So now it's three rounds, twenty cal Echo Bike, ten back squats at, say, two twenty-five. Where I'm like, I don't like that back squat at two twenty-five because I'm a longer athlete, more time under tension.

• 1:37:25Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:37:25Speaker 01

Leg endurance becomes an issue and not about, it's not necessarily about strength.

• 1:37:29Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:37:29Speaker 01

Uh, well, it is, but it's not like max power. Like if we did a one rep, max back squat, I'm gonna back squat five hundred pounds.

• 1:37:37Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:37:37Speaker 01

That doesn't necessarily translate to it being

• 1:37:40Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:40Speaker 01

  An endurance test.

• 1:37:42Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, yeah, I get that.

• 1:37:44Speaker 01

There's different variations that I like.

• 1:37:46Cameron Hanes?

Is that, I wonder, so for endurance on that, is it just reps, like rep after rep? Whereas to get that five hundred pound, one rep max, is just, is that low, you're just?

• 1:38:01Speaker 01

  How you're training for it?

• 1:38:03Cameron Hanes?

Your muscles are responding differently for the training.

• 1:38:06Speaker 01

Yeah, so if we were to do the workout with a lot of back squats and they're at a lower rate

• 1:38:12Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:38:13Speaker 01

Or lower, um, weight, your legs are gonna be basically training lactate.

• 1:38:18Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:38:18Speaker 01

And how easily you could flush that out. Um, it's gonna just be a lot of, your legs are gonna, it's gonna feel how we felt going up that mountain.

• 1:38:25Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:38:25Speaker 01

Uh, like you could always do a rep, but can you continue to do it with what's going on in your legs?

• 1:38:32Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:38:32Speaker 01

With the traditional back squat, if we were to go one rep max, it's a little bit trained, it doesn't train differently.

• 1:38:38Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:38:39Speaker 01

It's just raw strength and how strong your legs are for one, you know, one rep. Um, so it's also, it's trained differently, uh, like how you go about building those two things are two different approaches.

• 1:38:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah, and just, so your just muscles respond differently to the stimulus?

• 1:38:56Speaker 01

I mean, it's all about time under tension.

• 1:38:58Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:38:58Speaker 01

I'm a longer athlete, if. Um, I'm under tension longer than maybe the shortest person.

• 1:39:07Speaker 01

And so that I'm gonna be working harder.

• 1:39:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:39:10Speaker 01

Doesn't matter how strong my legs are. Yes, that translates. That's gonna be helpful. But if I'm under tension longer than you.

• 1:39:15Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:39:16Speaker 01

I'm gonna be requiring more energy.

• 1:39:17Cameron Hanes?

Like a third longer because you're six one or whatever.

• 1:39:21Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 1:39:22Cameron Hanes?

How how often do you go like slow reps, like super slow, like hold it?

• 1:39:27Speaker 01

A lot. Well, that's where you obviously get stronger is in negatives. And so there's a lot of tempo. There's a lot of pauses at the bottom. There's different positions in your squat that you need to strengthen. And so there's a lot of different things that you could do with that. But yeah, there's a lot of times where we do negatives for sure.

• 1:39:49Cameron Hanes?

  Do you have any more?

• 1:39:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:39:50Cameron Hanes?

  What?

• 1:39:50Speaker 01

  We're doing another round?

• 1:39:52Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:39:53Cameron Hanes?

  Different questions.

• 1:39:55Speaker 02

You said earlier on the podcast and on the mountain that you run towards pain. At what point in your life did you learn that? And are there times you wish you had that mindset when you didn't?

• 1:40:06Speaker 01

So a lot of that wanting to, a lot of this stems from a lot of relationships in my past. Specifically, my, the one that I have with my father.

• 1:40:18Speaker 01

I have an older brother. He's nine years older than me. And it was very easily, we all, we played sports growing up. He played baseball at a, at a D1 college. So he was the guy when it came to playing baseball. Throughout his early childhood up until playing football, or not football, baseball, Carolina. I was nine years younger. So a lot of the times I was seen in this shadow. And my dad was, he didn't give me necessarily the validation that maybe I was looking for. We all need validation. And I didn't get it from him. And I've learned.

• 1:40:57Speaker 01

Because I didn't find it in him and maybe he didn't say, you know, he was proud of me or that he, you know, loved me a whole lot. Like I didn't, I knew that was true. Like he, I think that he was proud of me and I, I know that he does love me, but he didn't, he didn't let me know. And so there was a lot of times where I didn't get that validation. I'd find it in other things. I'd find it in other people. And so it came, it didn't help that my brother was nine years younger because I was seen in his shadow. And that made me very competitive, like to almost like a, to the degree I am now. Whereas like, I'm always being compared to people. I'm always living to prove people wrong. And I know this isn't a perfect and most, the most pure, like motivator.

• 1:41:42Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:41:42Speaker 01

But there are a lot of reasons where I run to that pain because I've been running to that pain my entire life. Like I'm willing to do whatever it takes to be the person, to beat the person that you're comparing me to.

• 1:41:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:41:56Speaker 01

Cause this is like, all I know. All I want to hear is that, all I like, I love hearing that you're the best.

• 1:42:05Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah. Good job.

• 1:42:06Speaker 01

You're good job. Why? Cause I've been craving it from my father and I didn't necessarily get that much from him. And so I like when you tell me, you know, when you tell me, hey, like when we're going up that mountain and you're like, dude, you got heart kid.

• 1:42:24Speaker 01

  Like that, like, that's what,

• 1:42:29Speaker 01

that, that, that, that feels good. That sounds good. And in a way, I have, and like I said, this isn't the most pure thing, but in a way, I'm like, I'm like itching for that comment. And I'm not saying it's the healthiest thing, but it puts me in a very high pain tolerance because I won't stop until I hear it.

• 1:42:51Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:42:51Speaker 01

Where I won't stop until this stranger says something nice about me or this stranger says something to me before I won the games that I have no chance, or I'm washed up. And then I'm, I'm willing to go to a pretty deep and dark place.

• 1:43:03Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:43:04Speaker 01

And I'm waiting for him to, you know, where's he at?

• 1:43:07Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:43:07Speaker 01

  Where's he at?

• 1:43:08Cameron Hanes?

  What now?

• 1:43:08Speaker 01

What now? I haven't heard you. I haven't heard you. Um, and. I kind of feed off of that. And I think a lot of that has to do with, it's a nature nurture thing. Because at the core of it, I, like I said, I do think that God has given me the ability and the gift to be competitive.

• 1:43:29Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:43:29Speaker 01

Like he is, he has wired my personality to love sport, to love the desire to go like head to head and these things and have fun with it. Um, maybe he doesn't necessarily desire it to the, to the detriment that I've taken it to, in the sense where like, I really care about what people think. And I will do whatever limits to prove you wrong. I don't think he necessarily intended that.

• 1:43:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:43:53Speaker 01

Um, but I do think that the nurture of that with other relationships in my past have kind of just taken a lot of these things that I maybe are natural. And we just put gasoline on that fire.

• 1:44:06Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:06Speaker 01

And we've made it to what it is now where, you know, I love haters. You tell me I can't, it's like, all right.

• 1:44:14Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, we'll see.

• 1:44:15Speaker 01

We'll see. I have a bulletin board. I have a, a thing in my phone where I have like, a thing, it's, it's in my notes. I call it a board bulletin board. And the title of the thing is laugh now, cry later.

• 1:44:26Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:44:27Speaker 01

And man, I'm, I'll tap into that stuff. You, you say something, or I hear something, or I see something, it goes straight into that folder. And it's like, oh, like, you can laugh now. If I fail, go ahead and laugh.

• 1:44:39Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:39Speaker 01

Go ahead. And if you say something about me that, you know, I'm washed up, or I'll never win again, or I got lucky, I go ahead.

• 1:44:46Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:47Speaker 01

Laugh, laugh now. All this, it honestly tells you more about you than it does me.

• 1:44:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:51Speaker 01

But you're gonna use, you can still use it. I'm gonna use that. I'm gonna use that. Um, and then I do believe that, you know, at some point, the roles will be reversed and I'm gonna be the one laughing.

• 1:45:02Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:45:02Speaker 01

Um, and so I feel like a lot like, to answer your question, I, I do invite pain and I do run after it because.

• 1:45:13Speaker 01

I've been doing it for a while and I couldn't articulate that stuff way back then like I wouldn't be like a seven year old or a ten year old playing sports or you know doing something and be like you know what I love pain and this is why.

• 1:45:25Cameron Hanes?

  Right, yeah.

• 1:45:26Speaker 01

But there was a, a, there was something about you know, growing up that was never enough. It was never enough and it, it wired me to have that thought when I beat that record to be like beating the record by two, two minutes and forty seconds was not enough.

• 1:45:44Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:45:44Speaker 01

Like I was not proud of myself.

• 1:45:46Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:45:47Speaker 01

I wasn't, I had no sense of accomplishment.

• 1:45:49Cameron Hanes?

Well, you did what, what you expected.

• 1:45:52Speaker 01

I, yeah, I did, yeah, I told you, this is what I was gonna do.

• 1:45:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:45:55Speaker 01

And uh, I did it and I, I just wasn't satisfied.

• 1:46:00Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:46:01Speaker 01

And like I said, that mentality takes me places maybe.

• 1:46:05Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:46:05Speaker 01

It, it allows me to accomplish more, but I would say that was probably stemming from maybe something unhealthy. And um, I wouldn't call it trauma. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna, there's a lot of people who have experienced real trauma.

• 1:46:20Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:46:21Speaker 01

But I have gone through some things that um, have increased my pain tolerance. Not to the detriment where I'm scared of pain. Like there's a lot of people who have experienced trauma and if they experience a little bit of pain, they'll, they'll like hesitate and look back because they've, they have too much trauma.

• 1:46:40Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:46:40Speaker 01

And there's a lot of people who are, have no, none of that stuff. They haven't had, they have a, a very clean upbringing and a very, everything is perfect and they got everything they want and they're spoiled or whatever and they, they're soft and they don't even know how to

• 1:46:55Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:46:55Speaker 01

go into pain. And so I feel like I have a healthy dose.

• 1:46:59Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:47:00Speaker 01

Of, you know, I'm not scared of it in any direction.

• 1:47:04Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:47:04Speaker 01

And uh, but like I said, to answer, to answer that, that question along, in a long way, it all comes back to the upbringing and that's what that's with anything like.

• 1:47:15Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:47:15Speaker 01

Um, I would say that, like I said, Nothing has ever been enough with my dad. Like if I was playing sports and maybe it was always about what was going wrong. I could hit, you know, three, two home runs in a game. If I struck out once, we were, we were very critical about my strikeout. And I think a better way would have been, hey dude, you hit a homerun today.

• 1:47:37Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:47:38Speaker 01

But hey, when you go like, you hit a homerun, but let's talk about like, you hit a homerun. Well done, son. Like I'm proud of you. Now let's talk about the strikeout.

• 1:47:49Speaker 01

  That's it.

• 1:47:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:47:50Speaker 01

  That's all I take.

• 1:47:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:47:51Speaker 01

Like, we didn't talk about the homerun at all. I thought we, we honed in on the strikeout and I think.

• 1:47:57Cameron Hanes?

What, why was that, do you think?

• 1:48:00Speaker 01

I don't know. Maybe his upbringing.

• 1:48:04Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:48:05Speaker 01

Maybe, um, I don't know. He, he always said, he always said this, um, maybe you'll be as good as your brother. We'll just have to wait and see. And that was specifically about baseball.

• 1:48:18Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:48:19Speaker 01

But that's like, that was like the nature of it. And it's like, you, if you, if you say that in a, to a, someone who is not fully developed. That's like how I'm going to wire and view everything. And that's, I ran with that. And so everything was about living up to that expectation. At the same time, that expectation was never satisfied. Cause nothing was ever enough.

• 1:48:46Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:48:47Speaker 01

And so I'm like, I'm running.

• 1:48:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:48:49Speaker 01

  With no stop.

• 1:48:50Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:48:51Speaker 01

And it, it allowed me to do already in my life, some cool things. But man, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm always going to be running until, and this is, this is a, another thing that I've learned is when I gave my life to Jesus.

• 1:49:11Speaker 01

The first thing that I learned about that relationship was I had everything that I needed. But there was nothing more to prove to anybody. That he was satisfied with me, he was proud of me as my father. And so that started a journey of, okay, I got this, I got my childhood, and now I got this new reality that I want to live in. How do these two things blend together? And that's what, and I think it's a lifelong endeavor to find that balance. Because I don't want to dismiss who I've become in my upbringing. Like, I don't want, that's got, that's allowed me to accomplish some amazing things.

• 1:49:55Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:49:55Speaker 01

But now, I also don't want to push to decide the fact that I'm a new creation. And what the Lord says about me is the only thing that's true.

• 1:50:04Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:50:05Speaker 01

And that's, I don't need to prove anybody, anybody wrong.

• 1:50:07Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:50:08Speaker 01

That is not my goal in my life. If you aren't satisfied, or you're not happy, or you're not pleased with how I'm living, then that's on you. I'm trying to, my eyes are up.

• 1:50:15Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:50:16Speaker 01

I'm trying to live with my, my faith and, you know, if he says I need to change something, then I'm gonna change it.

• 1:50:21Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:50:21Speaker 01

Um, if he says, you know, keep on, keeping the main thing, the main thing, that's, that's what I want to do. Um, so, like, I don't even think I'm answering any questions, I'm just talking. There is a, it's, it's, it's one token and there's two sides to it. And I think that's the, the, the, the unique situation, the unique thing about this situation is, uh, it's a, I'm, I'm continuing to be healed in that, in this regard.

• 1:50:47Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:50:47Speaker 01

But it's also not a, like a, a thing that you just, you turn off.

• 1:50:51Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:50:51Speaker 01

  I love proving people wrong.

• 1:50:53Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:50:53Speaker 01

But God's saying, you don't need to do that.

• 1:50:56Cameron Hanes?

So you're like, I hear you.

• 1:50:57Speaker 01

Yeah, I hear you, I hear you, and I honestly.

• 1:50:59Cameron Hanes?

  I'll be right back.

• 1:51:00Speaker 01

I want, I want to like grow in that.

• 1:51:02Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:51:02Speaker 01

Because honestly, it, it takes. Man, if I, if I can actually tap into this, it's gonna relieve, it's gonna make me a lot more peaceful.

• 1:51:12Cameron Hanes?

And I wonder if you'd be able to, to perform at even a higher level.

• 1:51:18Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 1:51:18Cameron Hanes?

Because you're, there's some of that, it's, it is negativity that's motivating you, but that also weighs you down.

• 1:51:26Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:51:26Cameron Hanes?

  In some ways.

• 1:51:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:51:27Cameron Hanes?

You know, so we do use it as fuel. I say I love hate too.

• 1:51:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:51:31Cameron Hanes?

But I know there's something about me obsessing about what the hate people are, they're talking shit about me. That's, that's handcuffing me in some ways.

• 1:51:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:51:42Cameron Hanes?

So I'm not like at a, at a pure, healthy existence.

• 1:51:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:51:46Cameron Hanes?

I'm weighed down by this, these words.

• 1:51:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:51:49Cameron Hanes?

And, um, so yeah, I think the, the perfect balance is, is yeah, finding that balance.

• 1:51:55Speaker 01

  It's like just accepting.

• 1:51:56Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:51:56Speaker 01

The fact that this is how you grew up.

• 1:51:58Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:51:58Speaker 01

And some things, some things about that might not ever change.

• 1:52:01Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:52:04Speaker 01

And so, but also that it's a, it's a lifelong journey of walking and a constant reminding of who I actually am.

• 1:52:11Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:52:12Speaker 01

And I'm not a product of, I'm not a product of how my dad raised me.

• 1:52:14Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:52:15Speaker 01

I'm a product of who he says I am.

• 1:52:17Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm, yeah.

• 1:52:18Speaker 01

If I walk in that and if I.

• 1:52:19Cameron Hanes?

  Jesus.

• 1:52:20Speaker 01

Yeah. If I go to the CrossFit Games and you know, I don't podium.

• 1:52:23Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:52:24Speaker 01

Or if I come in second, or if I get cut and let the whole world down, like, that's gonna be, that's, all this is gonna be put to test.

• 1:52:32Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:52:33Speaker 01

Like, because if I'm way, if I'm leaning on this side, and it's all about, man, I let the whole world down when I told, like, I've, like,

• 1:52:41Speaker 01

and I care too much, too much about what people think, and I don't lean on this side, then when that's, if that time comes, man, I'm not, it's not gonna be good.

• 1:52:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:52:50Speaker 01

I'm positioned in a wrong, in the wrong way. Um, but yeah, man, it's like, I love, I, I've always been this way. I've always, you know, will, I'm always willing to sacrifice. I'm always willing to just, man, I don't know how to, I don't even, I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to tell you other than I, I, I run to it, man. You put a rock on me, man, and you tell me I can't do it, and the only thing standing in my way is totally in my control.

• 1:53:21Speaker 01

  Nothing's gonna stop me.

• 1:53:22Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:53:23Speaker 01

Nothing, like you might, like, my body's actually gonna like shut down before my mind stops.

• 1:53:30Cameron Hanes?

Well, I asked you a number of times today. How you do, how you doing, doing, you doing, feeling alright? Great, great, every time, great. I mean, whether you were great or not, you said great.

• 1:53:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, I was great.

• 1:53:46Cameron Hanes?

  Dude, I, yeah.

• 1:53:48Speaker 01

  I said great.

• 1:53:51Speaker 01

Sure, you know, I was, I was feeling it. But it always can be worse. I was running.

• 1:53:57Cameron Hanes?

  Definitely.

• 1:53:57Speaker 01

So like, in, in that perspective, I'm doing incredible. I'm doing great.

• 1:54:03Cameron Hanes?

  We get to do that.

• 1:54:04Speaker 01

Dude, I'm, I'm nine miles in, it's the farthest distance I've ever ran. I'm doing amazing.

• 1:54:09Cameron Hanes?

  And I'm still going.

• 1:54:10Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm still going. Uh, we have, we have nine more.

• 1:54:14Speaker 01

But no, I, I enjoyed today, it was, uh, it was fun. I, uh, but no, I, uh, kinda go to your point, back on the, the pain thing. The only, the only time, we, our sport is like, it's not head to head, but it is, we are going against people.

• 1:54:36Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:54:36Speaker 01

And I'm not totally in control. Like, if it was me versus me to win the CrossFit Games, I'm betting on myself every single time. Like, if there's no one else getting in my way, then I'm gonna win. Because I, like I said, I have a confidence that I have built through 28 years that is going to be stronger than the lies that I, that are coming in.

• 1:55:03Cameron Hanes?

  Right. Your previous version.

• 1:55:05Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, but at the same time, we, I'm going against 30 other, 29 other guys at the game. And they can actually perform better than me and win.

• 1:55:11Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:55:11Speaker 01

  So it's a, it's a weird dynamic.

• 1:55:13Cameron Hanes?

It's out of your control in that regard.

• 1:55:14Speaker 01

But running to pain, it's a, it's a, you still have that, like going into the cross, our last event, the CrossFit Games, I had like a, a small point margin, it was like, maybe like eight, like two spots. But I walked out of that floor and the last, the last thought I had was, Somebody's gonna have to die if they want to take this from me.

• 1:55:36Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:55:37Speaker 01

  Simple as that.

• 1:55:38Cameron Hanes?

What was the event? Do you remember?

• 1:55:39Speaker 01

It was a four time. It was three thr- it was an ascending ladder. It was three, no, nine thrusters at 135, three rope climbs. And then it would go 15 thrusters, five rope climbs, 21 thrusters, seven rope climbs. So it was ascending.

• 1:56:01Cameron Hanes?

What, what happened into your body? Like, where do you get the fatigue doing that?

• 1:56:05Speaker 01

So that workout, we had, we had to finish with a lunge, 100, 100 foot overhead walking lunge.

• 1:56:11Cameron Hanes?

  With how much?

• 1:56:12Speaker 01

  That, that same barbell.

• 1:56:13Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:56:14Speaker 01

The fatigue is main in that workout, the, it all comes down to the rope climbs.

• 1:56:21Cameron Hanes?

Cause you're bigger is it harder? Cause you're, you weigh more?

• 1:56:25Speaker 01

  Uh, no, yes and no.

• 1:56:27Cameron Hanes?

But you're taller, so maybe you can.

• 1:56:29Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. If it was legless.

• 1:56:31Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:56:31Speaker 01

Which you couldn't use your legs.

• 1:56:32Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:56:33Speaker 01

I would be at a disadvantage because I weighed 200, at the time I was 230 pounds.

• 1:56:37Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:56:37Speaker 01

So now it's upper body pulling and I don't get, necessarily use my height. Yes, I get, I have longer pulls. But that's not really.

• 1:56:46Cameron Hanes?

You need your feet lock to get that full stretch.

• 1:56:48Speaker 01

So whenever we are doing, when we get to use our feet, which we did. It pays to be a taller athlete. Yeah. Cause it's less about upper body pulling. It comes down more to grip. Because you're constantly holding on to the rope.

• 1:57:00Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:57:00Speaker 01

And you're not actually pulling. You're using your feet, you're clamping. And yes, you're pulling yourself up, but it's mainly the, whenever you're using your feet, the thing that typically goes in a workout like that is your grip. Because there's tech, typically a lot more reps, because you could do more with your feet than legless.

• 1:57:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:57:17Speaker 01

And so you're constantly holding on to something and that just weighs down. So.

• 1:57:21Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:57:21Speaker 01

I got bigger hand, I got big hands and I feel like I got pretty good grip. So that's the main thing.

• 1:57:27Cameron Hanes?

So nobody beat you in that?

• 1:57:30Speaker 01

  Someone did beat me.

• 1:57:30Cameron Hanes?

Oh, they did, but by not enough.

• 1:57:32Speaker 01

I went in thinking if somebody's gonna take away the CrossFit, if someone's gonna beat me in the CrossFit games, they're gonna die.

• 1:57:39Cameron Hanes?

  Did they die?

• 1:57:41Speaker 01

  To win?

• 1:57:41Cameron Hanes?

  Oh no, you won.

• 1:57:42Speaker 01

  I won.

• 1:57:43Cameron Hanes?

You're talking about, you're talking about the games, but I thought that, that was event that they're, they weren't gonna beat you.

• 1:57:49Speaker 01

If somebody was gonna stand on top of the podium, they were gonna have to.

• 1:57:52Cameron Hanes?

  Take your position.

• 1:57:52Speaker 01

Yeah. No, no one did that.

• 1:57:54Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:57:54Speaker 01

I did, uh. I was leading the entire time until the overhead walking lunch.

• 1:58:02Cameron Hanes?

  The lunch.

• 1:58:03Speaker 01

There was a buddy of mine and he was in, I want to say, fourth place at the time. And he was not, he was like, he had, he had to beat me by a lot more to win.

• 1:58:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:17Speaker 01

So there had to be a lot of people that middle us in order for him to win. And it was just me and him.

• 1:58:22Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 1:58:23Speaker 01

  And so I was like,

• 1:58:24Cameron Hanes?

  You got it.

• 1:58:24Speaker 01

  I'll let you go.

• 1:58:25Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:27Speaker 01

I'm not even worried about you.

• 1:58:28Cameron Hanes?

  Still gonna be the overall.

• 1:58:29Speaker 01

I was worried about the two people next to me.

• 1:58:31Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:31Speaker 01

But no, when I, we were, we basically started the overhead walking lunch together. And he was probably 10 feet ahead of me.

• 1:58:38Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:39Speaker 01

  And he dropped the bar.

• 1:58:40Cameron Hanes?

  Who?

• 1:58:41Speaker 01

And I pass him and the whole crowd is like, goes on their feet. You can hear it's like, everybody's chowing, like going crazy.

• 1:58:48Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:49Speaker 01

  I mean, I'm, I got like 40 feet left.

• 1:58:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:53Speaker 01

I have to go unbroken. I can't set the bar. Like if I, I can win this event and win the games.

• 1:58:58Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:58:59Speaker 01

And I remember getting 10, 10 feet away, 10 feet away. And I'm like, you're, you're doing an overhead walking lunch. I don't really know, you can't see behind you.

• 1:59:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:59:10Speaker 01

So I don't know how far the two people that I'm actually thinking about are behind me.

• 1:59:14Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:59:15Speaker 01

And so I'm like, I know I have, you know, probably like a, at least a 40, 40 foot lead on them. So.

• 1:59:23Cameron Hanes?

  10 left.

• 1:59:24Speaker 01

Yeah. I thought it was best to set this bar down with 10 feet left. And all, all you hear is, ah, from the entire crowd.

• 1:59:32Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:59:34Speaker 01

And watching it back on the live stream, the announcer is like hyping it up as I'm walking to the finish line.

• 1:59:40Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:59:41Speaker 01

Overhead and he's like going throughout my past and all the competition.

• 1:59:44Cameron Hanes?

  Gonna win this.

• 1:59:44Speaker 01

Yeah. He's, he started here and he's gone through this and he's gone through that. And now he's here. And it's like, he's just like, hyping it up all the way and it's perfect. And then I just dropped this bar. And you just hear him like pause like stop completely waiting for me to pick it up to like continue.

• 2:00:02Cameron Hanes?

Was it was it just hurting so bad or fatigued? What was it?

• 2:00:06Speaker 01

So the overhead walking lunge was more of stability. You're just walking with the overhead. So the barbell's overhead 135 pounds, you're lunging with it.

• 2:00:14Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 2:00:14Speaker 01

And in that moment, I honestly couldn't tell you, I could, I don't remember what was limiting because I was in the moment, I'm like, dude, I'm not going to go across the game. So I couldn't really tell you why I stopped it. I just know that I did. And watching it back, I'm like, I regret that.

• 2:00:31Cameron Hanes?

And thank God it didn't cost you the game. So.

• 2:00:34Speaker 01

Could you imagine? Dude, that was, that was the thing I was thinking about. I was like, all right, like this is, this might look bad, but I just gotta make sure.

• 2:00:44Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, I still win.

• 2:00:46Speaker 01

Yeah, I gotta be mature about this.

• 2:00:48Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, it's like.

• 2:00:49Speaker 01

  I would, I would, I don't know what I would have done.

• 2:00:52Cameron Hanes?

  I wonder.

• 2:00:53Speaker 01

  Could you imagine?

• 2:00:55Cameron Hanes?

You know how like in the football now they have the big screen? So the guys are running.

• 2:00:58Speaker 01

That's right. Yeah. Looking at the screen.

• 2:01:00Cameron Hanes?

Like if, if you would have had a screen.

• 2:01:01Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 2:01:02Cameron Hanes?

  That.

• 2:01:03Speaker 01

If I knew that he would like, looking back, he was farther than like, he was like.

• 2:01:08Cameron Hanes?

  You had time.

• 2:01:09Speaker 01

Yeah, I could have gone for it, failed, rolled the bar back and then go.

• 2:01:13Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:01:14Speaker 01

So I could have, I should have gone for it.

• 2:01:15Cameron Hanes?

They need to add that screen to the, I mean.

• 2:01:18Speaker 01

  I know.

• 2:01:18Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:01:20Speaker 01

  But good times.

• 2:01:21Cameron Hanes?

  That's an awesome story though.

• 2:01:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:01:23Cameron Hanes?

I mean, I, me personally, I would hate to be going against you in the games. Like especially coming back now and it's like, it feels like, you know, you're, you're, the, the more at peace you get with like where you're at in life, I feel like you might be unbeatable. I mean, I don't know. We'll see.

• 2:01:46Speaker 01

  We'll see. I, um.

• 2:01:49Speaker 01

I tried to get you to do CrossFit today. I tried to get you to do seven minutes of burpees.

• 2:01:55Cameron Hanes?

We didn't, I thought we did that.

• 2:01:56Speaker 01

  Oh my.

• 2:01:59Cameron Hanes?

  We didn't do that?

• 2:02:01Speaker 01

  That's wild.

• 2:02:02Cameron Hanes?

I think that was just a scheduling.

• 2:02:06Cameron Hanes?

I guess we didn't get, I had that on the list, but.

• 2:02:09Speaker 01

That was crazy. That's crazy. That's crazy. Hey.

• 2:02:12Cameron Hanes?

  What?

• 2:02:13Speaker 01

  That's crazy. I tried.

• 2:02:14Cameron Hanes?

Do you have anything else, James? We're done talking about me doing CrossFit.

• 2:02:20Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 2:02:22Cameron Hanes?

  More peanut gallery.

• 2:02:23Speaker 01

I tried to bring him in, all the, all my, all the CrossFit folks who watch this, I tried to,

• 2:02:29Speaker 01

I tried to rope him into, in an open workout.

• 2:02:32Cameron Hanes?

  Who, me?

• 2:02:33Speaker 01

Yeah. Seven minutes of burpees is it?

• 2:02:34Cameron Hanes?

Shit dude. I could be your dad.

• 2:02:38Speaker 01

He said, do you want to do pushups instead? I was like, burpees are hard, easier, easier. You can use your legs pressing out.

• 2:02:45Cameron Hanes?

I just do binge. I just do binge.

• 2:02:48Speaker 02

Okay. You, uh, you talked about blooming when, uh, blooming with where you're planted, but how do you balance that with also looking to the future with goals? Cause obviously you do have to have some kind of goal for the future. You can't just always be focused about the now.

• 2:03:06Speaker 01

Yeah, I think you're, if you, if you're making goals that are outside of your control, you're getting in a pretty dangerous area. Cause you're setting yourself, it's, it's, it's a high risk. Cause you're setting yourself up for discouragement. Because other, there are, there are other factors in play that you don't have control over. And so I try to tend, like, try to get away with, like, this is what I want to do if, like, if I, if I, if I set a goal and to win the CrossFit Games. Like, that is a goal of mine. But if that's like the only thing I'm thinking about and I don't achieve that. Then what, I'm a failure?

• 2:03:51Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, right.

• 2:03:52Speaker 01

So it's like, I want, I want, I want to set up process goals that I can actually look at and check the box. And check the box. And those process goals lead me to where I want to go. I made a post, I made a post about this the other day. I want to do, I want to do thirty ring muscle ups for time. Or unbroken, not for time. I want to do thirty, thirty ring muscle ups unbroken. I want to do thirty strict pull ups unbroken. I told you my weakness is upper body pulling. Both upper body pulling and gymnastic movements. I want to run a sub five K or

• 2:04:26Cameron Hanes?

  Eighteen minutes.

• 2:04:27Speaker 01

Eighteen minute five K. And, uh, yeah, so those were, those are, those are goals that are in my control.

• 2:04:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:04:35Speaker 01

Nobody, nobody's stopping me from running an eight, a sub eighteen minute five K. If I don't do that, it's because it's my fault. And blooming where you're planted is focusing on those things with the mindset that it's going to take you ultimately to where you want to go.

• 2:04:54Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, cause none of those things are, one of the goals wasn't winning CrossFit games on that list.

• 2:04:59Speaker 01

It was, it was, it was.

• 2:05:00Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, it was?

• 2:05:01Speaker 01

There was, there was two competitions that I want to win.

• 2:05:03Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, gotcha.

• 2:05:04Speaker 01

And then it, what it, what I was trying to do was like, it was more to show people

• 2:05:09Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, the process along the way.

• 2:05:10Speaker 01

The process along the way is gonna, is hopefully to get me to this goal.

• 2:05:14Cameron Hanes?

  That makes sense.

• 2:05:14Speaker 01

Um, it would have, it would have pissed people off if I was like, hey, these are my goals and it didn't mention.

• 2:05:21Cameron Hanes?

  I know.

• 2:05:22Speaker 01

It would piss people off. People, people interpret things weird.

• 2:05:24Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, they do.

• 2:05:25Speaker 01

  And, uh,

• 2:05:27Cameron Hanes?

One of Trish's goals is to not go bald every year. So you could add that on.

• 2:05:32Speaker 01

Yeah. Uh, so to end, to speak to that, like, yes, I do think about the future.

• 2:05:37Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:05:37Speaker 01

But if I'm so like result oriented or looking too far in the future, that it creates some sort of like, um, Discouragement in my, in the moment.

• 2:05:48Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 2:05:49Speaker 01

  And it's kind of like.

• 2:05:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:05:50Speaker 01

What's it for? So like I, I wanna, I wanna do things that create momentum.

• 2:05:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:05:56Speaker 01

I wanna do things that I know are pushing the needle, that it, that it's getting me better. That are, is creating that confidence that we've been talking about. So then when I show up at the CrossFit Games, I could look back and say, hey, I have, I've accomplished these things. I'm ready.

• 2:06:10Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:06:11Speaker 01

I'm ready for, to accomplish this ultimate task. Um, and I think the, like I said, it creates momentum and uh, just building blocks. It's all it takes. And so I, I try my best to, to be present and um, and it's so easy to, it's so easy to.

• 2:06:31Speaker 01

If you're so, if you're thinking about the results, or if you're thinking about the timeline to get to where you wanna go, and that's all you're thinking about, man, like.

• 2:06:39Speaker 01

One, you're, it's all a distraction to where you currently are.

• 2:06:43Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 2:06:44Speaker 01

Like if I'm just obsessed with winning the CrossFit Games, that it takes my eyes on me getting better today.

• 2:06:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:06:50Speaker 01

Then it's actually, like, who cares if I have that goal? Like, it sounds good, but it ain't gonna happen.

• 2:06:55Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 2:06:55Speaker 01

Uh, so kinda just, you know, like I said, being where your feet are and um.

• 2:07:01Cameron Hanes?

Process goals are a good one.

• 2:07:02Speaker 01

Just getting better today. That's, I mean, it's, it's a. There's nothing sexy to, everybody wants to think that there's mad, there's magic in it. And it's like, dude, like.

• 2:07:15Cameron Hanes?

  Hard work isn't sexy.

• 2:07:16Speaker 01

  It's not.

• 2:07:16Cameron Hanes?

  It's just what it takes.

• 2:07:17Speaker 01

  Yeah. It's just showing up.

• 2:07:20Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm. Wow. Yeah.

• 2:07:23Speaker 01

  That's what we did today.

• 2:07:24Cameron Hanes?

  I got confidence in you.

• 2:07:25Speaker 01

  I appreciate it.

• 2:07:26Cameron Hanes?

  You're badass.

• 2:07:27Speaker 01

And eh, at the end of the day, if it doesn't happen, it's not gonna change who I am because.

• 2:07:32Cameron Hanes?

You're still gonna be the greatest bow hunter ever, eventually.

• 2:07:34Speaker 01

Eventually. What are they, what are the, hold on, hold on, what are the process goals for that?

• 2:07:39Cameron Hanes?

Uh, you better shoot that bow.

• 2:07:41Speaker 01

  That's a life, that's a, that's a lifetime endeavor.

• 2:07:43Cameron Hanes?

But shoot that bow, first of all, but.

• 2:07:45Speaker 01

Process goal, process goal number one is we're gonna get, we're gonna shoot that bow. Hey dude, I can go out to my backyard and get reps in that.

• 2:07:55Cameron Hanes?

  You gotta get.

• 2:07:56Speaker 01

  I can.

• 2:07:57Cameron Hanes?

  Evan Hoyt, where's his AX90?

• 2:07:59Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 2:08:00Cameron Hanes?

  We're not giving them mine.

• 2:08:02Speaker 01

  Reps upon reps, perfect reps.

• 2:08:04Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 2:08:05Speaker 01

And then our next process goal is to kill a bear.
