Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more. So, nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

• 1:18Speaker 01

  That's J-I-R-A dot com.

• 1:20Speaker 02

Yo, you're not going to believe this. We were just like hanging out here doing a podcast.

• 1:25Andrew Manganelli?

And some guy just walked in.

• 1:26Speaker 02

And some guy just appeared. And I feel like, I feel like, Marquez! Not at all. Pull up a chair.

• 1:43Speaker 02

Go for it. What is up, people of the internet? This, nope, I already [__] it up. I don't have the sauce. What is up, people of the internet? Welcome to another episode, another bonus episode of the Ellis Forum Andrew Cast. Marquez and David are not here. They are inside Apple Park at the event. But we, who are not given passes, are at the visitor's center.

• 2:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Outside.

• 2:03Speaker 02

  Outside.

• 2:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Visitor's visitor's center.

• 2:05Speaker 02

We just finished watching the new September 9th awedropping event in our hotel room. And we skirted here to do a cool little outdoor podcast where we could see what the good journalists of Cupertino think about all this new Apple stuff.

• 2:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Or just random people.

• 2:22Speaker 02

Or [__] you know, if they want to. Random people walking by. Yeah. So, welcome to the very first waveform. Man on the street.

• 2:29Andrew Manganelli?

This will be fun because just like our first live event ever, uh, we don't know if anyone will actually stop by and say anything to us.

• 2:36Speaker 03

It could just be us for the next hour.

• 2:37Speaker 02

We told no one we were gonna do this.

• 2:39Andrew Manganelli?

So we are just sitting here hoping we catch a few eyes of people that we know, or maybe someone who knows the podcast. We also don't know if we're gonna get kicked out.

• 2:47Speaker 02

  Yeah, we don't know anything.

• 2:47Speaker 03

So every minute of this episode is boiling with tension.

• 2:50Speaker 02

We don't even know if it's not gonna rain.

• 2:52Andrew Manganelli?

It did drizzle before, which would be a big damper.

• 2:55Speaker 03

  Not ideal.

• 2:56Andrew Manganelli?

  But yeah.

• 2:57Speaker 02

Dude, look, that guy is orange on. He's dressed like the iPhone. That's hilarious.

• 3:02Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, do you wanna, do you wanna come on? Yeah, yeah. Do you wanna be on the podcast? Yeah, that would be awesome.

• 3:07Speaker 02

  Dude, please.

• 3:08Speaker 04

  What's up?

• 3:09Andrew Manganelli?

Just hold that and we have a couple of questions. If you don't, did you watch the event today?

• 3:13Speaker 04

  Yeah, I saw it.

• 3:14Andrew Manganelli?

You saw the event? Cool. Um, all right, welcome. First guest. This is awesome. This took like one minute and we thought we were gonna sit here for like half an hour with no one. Um, what's your name?

• 3:23Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 3:23Speaker 04

  I'm Kavi.

• 3:24Andrew Manganelli?

Kavi. Nice to meet you. Yeah, do you work around here or you're just around?

• 3:28Speaker 04

Uh, I go to San Jose State.

• 3:29Andrew Manganelli?

San Jose State? Awesome. What are you studying?

• 3:31Speaker 04

  Aviation.

• 3:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Aviation? That's awesome.

• 3:34Speaker 02

  Very cool.

• 3:34Andrew Manganelli?

Cool. So you watched the event, right?

• 3:36Speaker 04

  Yeah, I saw it.

• 3:36Andrew Manganelli?

You did? Was there anything that, or that stood out to you that was like, you're super excited to maybe grab or?

• 3:43Speaker 04

Uh, I'm just gonna get the new AirPods because I lost my previous ones in Santa Cruz like six months ago.

• 3:48Andrew Manganelli?

That's, it felt like a good upgrade for what it was. Ellis is obviously the audio person, but.

• 3:53Speaker 02

Yeah. I'm excited. I think the foam in the tips is gonna be cool.

• 3:56Andrew Manganelli?

  I think so, too.

• 3:57Speaker 02

I think that's gonna make a big difference. I don't know. What, what, is it just literally you want new AirPods and these are?

• 4:01Speaker 04

I mean, I probably wouldn't upgrade if I still had the previous ones. I just lost those, so.

• 4:06Speaker 02

Are you, do you see yourself using the heart, the heart rate feature?

• 4:11Speaker 04

I mean, I have this watch, so.

• 4:12Andrew Manganelli?

That's a really good, yeah, it felt like something that like for people who don't use a watch, but then they immediately are trying to sell you the watch.

• 4:18Speaker 04

If anything, I feel like if there's an option, I'd turn it off just to save battery.

• 4:22Andrew Manganelli?

For sure. That's fair. I feel like that's what half the features in most of these events are, like battery killers.

• 4:28Speaker 02

Yeah, actually. Alright, but the, uh, I think it's, we gotta talk about the real, the real meat of this show.

• 4:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Of you, yeah.

• 4:35Speaker 02

Um, which is the iPhone Air, in my opinion.

• 4:38Andrew Manganelli?

Mm-hmm. Do you, what phone are you using right now?

• 4:40Speaker 02

Oh yeah, we should start there.

• 4:41Speaker 04

  I have a 16 Pro.

• 4:42Andrew Manganelli?

16 Pro, and you're not interested in upgrading based on anything that happened? Was there anything that, what do you think about the new design? The new design language?

• 4:50Speaker 04

I think it's funny that they're going back to aluminum.

• 4:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 4:53Speaker 02

  Yeah, right.

• 4:54Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. What do you think about the, like, the big plateau that they called it, or kind of the, like, matte finish back? Like it, dislike it?

• 5:01Speaker 04

I like it. I mean, I don't have much of an opinion on it, honestly.

• 5:05Andrew Manganelli?

That's fair. That's, a lot of tech journalists will try and find an opinion.

• 5:08Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 5:08Andrew Manganelli?

We'll have to find an opinion, or else no one will listen to us, and then, but, uh...

• 5:12Speaker 02

I think I like the new plateau. I think I'm pro, I think I'm proto. Plat, plat pro. Plat pro max. I think I'm into it.

• 5:19Andrew Manganelli?

I like it. I think the, what about the orange color?

• 5:22Speaker 04

  I don't like the orange.

• 5:23Andrew Manganelli?

You don't like the orange? What, do you not-

• 5:25Speaker 04

If I were to get it, I'd get, like, the white or silver one.

• 5:27Andrew Manganelli?

White or silver? Are you just not an orange fan, or you just don't think they did a good job on the orange?

• 5:31Speaker 04

Uh, I don't know. I, it just looks kinda strange to me.

• 5:34Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, cool. That's totally fair. I think, I think people will either love it, or stay as far away from it as possible.

• 5:41Speaker 02

I like it, cuz, you know, Adam and I are really into dive watches.

• 5:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Mm-hmm.

• 5:46Speaker 02

And it's like the exact orange that a lot of dive watches have some of their, like, pieces in.

• 5:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 5:51Speaker 02

And so I was like, ah, this, but that's, that's kinda, that's kinda the only thing that really draws me to that, uh- That phone. I don't know.

• 5:58Andrew Manganelli?

Alright, have you always been an iPhone user?

• 6:00Speaker 04

Uh, no, I was on Google Pixels until the 14.

• 6:04Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. So, I was gonna ask you, cuz I feel like a lot of people we're gonna see are gonna be lifelong iPhone users. So if you were to switch back to an Android right now, what'd you switch to?

• 6:12Speaker 04

Uh, probably not, just only for see-

• 6:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Good answer.

• 6:16Speaker 04

Well, I mean, main reason I switched is iMessage, you know?

• 6:19Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 6:19Speaker 04

  My friends use it.

• 6:20Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 6:20Speaker 04

  Everyone uses it.

• 6:21Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 6:21Speaker 04

And honestly, like, I'm into tech, but this is just simple. Like, in high school, they'd take away our phones and like, put it in the phone cubbies, but we can use like, the phone mirroring on the Mac. So, yeah. So we all just use that.

• 6:36Speaker 02

  That's the craziest.

• 6:38Andrew Manganelli?

I have to tell Mark has that, because last episode, he was talking about like, people having burner phones, but it sounds like you guys found a way cheaper, easier way of doing it anyways.

• 6:44Speaker 02

Of, of course, we are like, not as smart as high schoolers. Like, that is always how it goes. That's insane, the screen mirroring.

• 6:51Andrew Manganelli?

  That's really funny.

• 6:52Speaker 02

They have to put them in like, Faraday cages or something. Like, stop that, like.

• 6:57Andrew Manganelli?

That's really funny. Yeah. Thanks for stopping by. Um, we'll let you go. Are you just hanging out around here?

• 7:02Speaker 04

  Yeah, I'm just hanging out.

• 7:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Cool.

• 7:03Speaker 04

Got out of class and thought I'd show up.

• 7:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Awesome.

• 7:05Speaker 02

  Cool. Sweet.

• 7:06Andrew Manganelli?

Sweet, yeah. Thanks so much for joining. Yeah. Yeah, let me grab this and let me shake your hand. Thanks for stopping by.

• 7:11Speaker 04

  Yeah, of course.

• 7:12Speaker 02

You were our very first guest.

• 7:13Andrew Manganelli?

Appreciate it, yeah. Thank you so much.

• 7:18Speaker 02

We're back. What's up? Ellis, you know who I am. And today, right now, back here, at this moment, we are here with?

• 7:24Speaker 05

Chris Nichols, and I do know who you are now.

• 7:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 7:27Speaker 05

Finally meet you. And Andrew, nice to meet you.

• 7:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Great to meet you, yeah.

• 7:29Speaker 02

Yeah. You work at, for people who don't know you?

• 7:32Speaker 05

  Petapixel.

• 7:32Speaker 02

  Sweet.

• 7:33Speaker 05

  Yes, absolutely.

• 7:34Speaker 02

  All right, I love Petapixel.

• 7:36Speaker 05

  I appreciate that.

• 7:37Speaker 02

  So much.

• 7:38Speaker 05

I appreciate that. I hear good things about you guys, of course. David Mel, he's been on our podcast, we've been with him.

• 7:42Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah, look who arrived.

• 7:43Speaker 05

  David, David.

• 7:44Andrew Manganelli?

It's good to know he's talking good about us, and not trash about us when we're not around.

• 7:48Speaker 05

  I've heard.

• 7:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, okay.

• 7:50Speaker 05

  I don't know.

• 7:50Andrew Manganelli?

We've heard lots of other things.

• 7:51Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah. My personal experience, we shouldn't get into right now in this recording, don't worry about it.

• 7:55Speaker 02

But, since you work at Petapixel, you are the perfect person to ask about this new selfie camera.

• 8:00Speaker 05

  Right.

• 8:01Speaker 02

Which I was like, in the hotel room when we were watching, I was like, that's dope, and these two boys were like, Pixel already had that.

• 8:07Speaker 05

Yeah, like, straight up, like, so. As a photographer, the only thing that really appeals to me is the new 4X lens. You know, like, cool, bigger sensor, great, but video feature wise, I think there's some cool stuff here. So selfie cam, the fact that it's shooting square format.

• 8:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 8:23Speaker 05

But actually not giving you square photos, that's so I'm mad, but for me, I wouldn't use this feature, but I could see so many creators using this selfie camera where you have this sort of open gate kind of thing. It can do vertical orientation, horizontal orientation, and you can keep the phone vertical the whole time. Reframe on your face, follow as you move around. If somebody else comes in the frame, it widens for them. Like, that's neat.

• 8:45Speaker 02

  I'm really psyched.

• 8:46Andrew Manganelli?

What's cool about that, so Pixel did do the like widening, but the like center stage aspect of it to be able to like crop in on you better. Will be super beneficial for people who are terrible at framing.

• 8:55Speaker 05

Anybody doing like TikTok and stuff, they're gonna love this.

• 8:57Andrew Manganelli?

And the stabilization, like when he was running looked really good. And iPhone stabilization is fantastic, so.

• 9:02Speaker 02

I'm excited because as someone with long arms who's sort of built like a stick figure, I'm always the person who's like, Ellis, will you hold the phone for the selfie? No more, baby.

• 9:12Speaker 05

Geez, yeah, I know, I think that's a really smart feature, like anything to make it more convenient. But for those of us that are maybe a bit more advanced, want to do some other stuff, the other thing that really intrigued me is that you can record ProRes RAW. And, uh, and it's external, but you can record ProRes RAW and that does proper open gate. So as far as, all the gates are open. The iPhone 17 Pro is just opening all the gates all over the place.

• 9:35Speaker 02

That is really, really exciting. I mean, you know, it's really funny. I just watched this YouTube video of this dude.

• 9:40Speaker 05

  Was it Petapixel?

• 9:41Speaker 02

No, sorry. But it was someone comparing all the different international versions of, um, the first Harry Potter movie, which they also shot, uh, it's filmed, so it's open matte.

• 9:52Speaker 05

  Right.

• 9:53Speaker 02

But, um, would they, I had no idea, they did that specifically so that when they printed a VHS copy in 4 by 3, they didn't have to crop the widescreen, they could just. Extend the top.

• 10:04Speaker 05

  Right, exactly.

• 10:04Speaker 02

And you'd have like a more vertical frame. And I wonder if we're about to see 4x3 video come back.

• 10:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 10:10Speaker 02

  We can cut it.

• 10:11Speaker 05

  It's a cool.

• 10:12Speaker 02

We won't, but I want it to.

• 10:13Speaker 05

It's a cool option to have whether you're advanced or beginner on this phone system.

• 10:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 10:17Speaker 05

  For sure.

• 10:18Speaker 02

What phone do you have right now?

• 10:19Speaker 05

  iPhone 16 Pro Max.

• 10:20Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 10:20Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 10:21Speaker 02

And has it ever overheated on you?

• 10:23Speaker 05

So that's an interesting thing. Um, not for me, but I mean, I'm primarily shooting photos with it, right? I'm not doing a lot of video other than family stuff. But I know Jordan, my compatriot on Petapixel, and Tyler Stallman, who's just on the podcast here at Apple Park.

• 10:36Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 10:36Speaker 05

With us, uh, they've both had issues like that.

• 10:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 10:38Speaker 05

Screens dimming, like really brutal stuff, so.

• 10:41Speaker 02

Yeah, we've heard a lot of screen dimming.

• 10:42Speaker 05

Is this gonna be better? They say yes, new vapor chamber, all aluminum unibody construction's new. So yeah, I mean, it promises good things. The processor's hopefully less energy dependent as well.

• 10:54Andrew Manganelli?

That's one thing we're hoping about. We keep saying how we wish we could have just shot this on an iPhone, but like it would cook out here and definitely overheat and we would lose it. But and, uh, we shoot a lot of car stuff for autofocus on an iPhone that overheats all the time.

• 11:07Speaker 02

  Right.

• 11:08Andrew Manganelli?

It didn't feel like, they didn't say anything in the event about the vapor chamber helping. I guess they probably don't want to admit that it's.

• 11:14Speaker 05

They went more into what a vapor chamber is this year, I think. But you know, I mean, I love Apple. It's like every single year, it's just everything's two times better, right?

• 11:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 11:21Speaker 05

  So.

• 11:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Here's a graph.

• 11:22Speaker 05

Yeah, two times, 2X, 2X. So yes, I'm, I'm, let's just assume it's two times better. I don't know if that's true or not.

• 11:28Speaker 02

What you were saying earlier is that Apple did not want to admit that their prior ProRes, like ultra high.

• 11:34Speaker 05

  Overheating.

• 11:35Speaker 02

Was overheating their phones and, uh.

• 11:37Speaker 05

It is interesting in telling that they went back to an aluminum body as opposed to titanium. So that might be part of it too, just to give more metal to absorb heat and transfer it out.

• 11:45Speaker 02

I wonder, I also wonder if now that they're doing the unibody construction, if it's just easier to work with aluminum like that than it is titanium.

• 11:51Andrew Manganelli?

I know nothing about any of that.

• 11:53Speaker 05

Lots, lots of questions, lots of, lots of stuff to answer.

• 11:55Speaker 02

Yeah, why are they inviting like alchemists and metallurgists to, uh, to this? So we can interview them.

• 12:00Speaker 05

  It's all CNC guys. I don't know what that's.

• 12:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Weird, yeah.

• 12:04Speaker 02

Man, okay, before we let you go, uh, you know, to whatever briefings, whatever you have to do here. Uh, Marquez actually just messaged me on Slack asking how the pod is going or how the pod went. So. As someone who's been here for three minutes.

• 12:18Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 12:18Speaker 02

How do you think it's going?

• 12:19Speaker 05

Like, just you, you and I here.

• 12:22Speaker 02

  You're part of this, man.

• 12:23Andrew Manganelli?

This is the first time we've ever tried something like this.

• 12:25Speaker 05

  I think it's going great. I mean, I don't know, like it.

• 12:28Andrew Manganelli?

You're carrying it pretty hard, but yeah.

• 12:30Speaker 05

I wanted you to say it, Andrew. I didn't want to say it, but yes.

• 12:32Speaker 02

  You hear that, Marquez?

• 12:33Speaker 05

It's been super fun, and you guys always really do good stuff.

• 12:35Andrew Manganelli?

Appreciate it. Thank you so much.

• 12:37Speaker 05

I appreciate you having me on here. Yeah, thank you.

• 12:38Speaker 02

Dude, thank you so much for being here.

• 12:39Speaker 05

  No problem.

• 12:40Speaker 02

This has been a great convo.

• 12:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Thanks for joining us.

• 12:41Speaker 05

  You hear that, Marquez?

• 12:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 12:42Speaker 02

Yeah. Where can we find your, your work?

• 12:44Speaker 05

Well, petapixel.com. I mean, that's, that's the best place. And then on YouTube, I mean, petapixel. I hope that you recognize my face, you know, you know already that we're.

• 12:51Speaker 02

  Now, all waveform people will.

• 12:53Speaker 05

And of course, our video's gonna be up here shortly, so have a look up for that.

• 12:56Speaker 02

  Our, this will not, so.

• 12:59Andrew Manganelli?

This will be way too late.

• 13:03Andrew Manganelli?

It's pretty cool that an event is big enough that people are just like outside wandering around.

• 13:08Speaker 02

They're probably still in briefings, honestly.

• 13:10Andrew Manganelli?

They're probably, well, Hands On is probably ending around now, and then briefings are gonna start, so it's like, for those of you who aren't aware, like, we're outside of the cafe, which is kind of sectioned off during these events for journalists.

• 13:21Speaker 02

I was gonna say, that's where all the journalists are, because they can get coffee.

• 13:24Andrew Manganelli?

No, but they can see us from here, so hopefully someone will notice. I can see them too, and I don't see too many people that I noticed yet.

• 13:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's fair.

• 13:31Andrew Manganelli?

But so what's happening most, sorry.

• 13:32Speaker 02

  No, no, no.

• 13:33Andrew Manganelli?

What's happening most likely right now is you get a set of three or four briefings throughout the day. The Hands On experience is probably ending, it's probably a 10-ish minute walk, and then like, some people will start their briefings, some people will come back here, grab a bite to eat, that's hopefully when we catch them.

• 13:49Speaker 02

Can, can we do like, for people who maybe are new to the, the channel, new to tech, like, like how this day, how iPhone Day actually works?

• 13:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Sure.

• 13:58Speaker 02

  Like, like chronologically?

• 13:59Andrew Manganelli?

I can do like the quickest rundown possible.

• 14:01Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 14:03Andrew Manganelli?

We obviously come out here, Apple Park. I think what's interesting about this is we're at the cafe, which is still public, because it's a public store, but they section off that one. Anyway, you get dropped off at the visitor's center. If you have a badge, you go through, right across the street is one of the entrances, and there, depending on if you're at Dub Dub or the iPhone event, you go to Steve Jobs Theater or wherever the temporary stage is.

• 14:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 14:26Andrew Manganelli?

Walk up there a little early at around 10 o'clock. You go into the event, goes on for whatever.

• 14:32Speaker 02

And it's like, it's like a big, open auditorium.

• 14:34Andrew Manganelli?

With nothing in there. And so what happens is you go, you walk downstairs, then into the theater. And by the time you leave the theater, all of the new products are set up. And that's when you have your chance for like, uh, to see and shoot a bunch of, not even hands-on, it's like, uh, it's, it's, because you basically can't get a hands-on because there's too many people. It's like fighting for your lives.

• 14:56Speaker 02

It is the first time you see the actual products.

• 14:59Andrew Manganelli?

And so they'll see that and then that will wrap up in an hour, an hour and a half. And then you get your briefings. One of those briefings for some people is a more private hands-on in the same spot, which is where we get most of our good hands-on stuff for impressions.

• 15:13Speaker 02

And when you say briefings, what do you mean exactly?

• 15:16Andrew Manganelli?

It's time slots where people from the Apple team can explain different features or products better. So that people who are reviewing things have a better idea of what, what things are for their videos that they'll make. And people are already going to start crunching right now. Like, everybody who is at that event is now in a time where they can release footage from this event and talk about it. So like, some people are probably going to start shooting next to us. Some people are going to start writing, like Marquez, and he'll shoot a roll after all his briefings tonight. Um, but that's kind of what today is. And then some people might even have some briefings tomorrow, but, um.

• 15:48Speaker 02

And you and I have had a lot of silly moments in and around this place over the years at this point. This might be one of the silliest, sitting out here with a podcast mic on a bench.

• 15:59Andrew Manganelli?

I've already watched two people say no to Eric when he invited them on it. So that one hurt a little bit, but we're not cool enough.

• 16:05Speaker 02

If Marquez were here, dude, it'd be, there'd be a line out the door.

• 16:07Andrew Manganelli?

No, I still think we're a little early still. I'm actually pumped we already got those two people.

• 16:13Speaker 02

  Yeah, me too.

• 16:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Um, or two groups.

• 16:15Speaker 02

Yeah, we weren't even expecting to be recording the real podcast episode already. We were like, let's do an intro. And then people just were like, hey.

• 16:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 16:22Speaker 02

Trying to think of some, some fun stories of us.

• 16:25Andrew Manganelli?

Most of our stories involve food. Ellis and I like to absolutely destroy diets.

• 16:30Speaker 02

Yeah, so far today, I have, it is, uh, 12:43 PM. I have had a hot dog, I've had crab, I've had curry.

• 16:40Andrew Manganelli?

And all of them in a pastry.

• 16:42Speaker 02

Yeah, and my, my stomach is, uh, if anyone's ever played like any of the WarioWare games, it's, that's, that's like sort of the vibe in there right now.

• 16:52Andrew Manganelli?

  That's pretty awesome.

• 16:55Speaker 02

We were talking to Eric. So Eric is working on a super secret project right now. I can't talk about it at the moment, but it involves going, he's telling me I can, but I won't. But he's, he's going through a bunch of old footage. And in it, he found this really touching moment between Adam and I.

• 17:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Andrew and I, me.

• 17:14Speaker 02

He found this really touching moment between Andrew and I where it was after a super crazy shoot day. I think we taped the podcast.

• 17:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 17:23Speaker 02

  And, well, you see David?

• 17:24Andrew Manganelli?

  He's right there.

• 17:25Speaker 03

  That's what I said.

• 17:25Speaker 02

  There's David.

• 17:26Andrew Manganelli?

David's getting coffee, completely ignoring us. What did you?

• 17:28Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 17:29Andrew Manganelli?

It was, it was after all day of shooting normal stuff and then the next day of briefings and stuff. And then we had the podcast episode. We recorded pretty late in the day.

• 17:37Speaker 02

It was one of those work shoots where like we were just cooked and exhausted afterwards. But after we finished our last taping, they were driving us on golf carts back to the entrance. And it was just one of those, you know, it's like, it's a beautiful California night in September. The temperature's perfect. The stars are not really out in California. And we're driving through this golf cart through beautiful Apple Park and the guy's whizzing and Adam, or wow, second time. And Andrew and I just had this sort of like.

• 18:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Rent free.

• 18:08Speaker 02

I guess now we have to leave that in. Andrew and I just had this moment where it was like, dude, our lives, we're so lucky, man. Like this is so cool and.

• 18:15Andrew Manganelli?

And we recorded this like sweet outro for the travel vlog video we were doing. To the point where like the golf cart's zipping down, we're like making jokes with the driver who is awesome. We're like, this is our event. And we're just like, we paused the camera like, we nailed that. That was like perfect. This video is going to be cooked.

• 18:35Speaker 02

  Absolute prime.

• 18:37Andrew Manganelli?

And then we get back to the hotel and listen to it and it's just.

• 18:45Speaker 03

Did you forget to turn on the mic or it was just too windy?

• 18:47Speaker 02

The mic was on and there was a windscreen, but it was just so windy that it was just like.

• 18:53Andrew Manganelli?

And it was like, those golf carts are like, you're facing backwards out the back. So there's almost no coverage to like protect from the wind.

• 19:00Speaker 03

Oh my God. That's so funny.

• 19:01Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I really wish we had that because it was. Probably, it would have been one of the best scenes in the studio.

• 19:07Speaker 02

  Yeah, it was.

• 19:08Andrew Manganelli?

  It was a touching moment.

• 19:10Speaker 02

It was, it was, it was one of those things where it was like, we nailed everything. We nailed the take, we nailed the shot, we nailed the story, and then just like...

• 19:22Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 19:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Things happen. Tough.

• 19:27Speaker 02

  Welcome to the Waveform Podcast.

• 19:28Speaker 06

  Thank you for having me.

• 19:29Speaker 02

We're back. Can you please give everyone your name?

• 19:31Speaker 06

  Yeah, I'm Martin.

• 19:32Speaker 02

Martin, nice to meet you. Now, before we talk Apple, you're wearing a bunch of Nike tennis stuff, and we have to ask, Sinner or Alcaraz?

• 19:41Speaker 06

Ooh, that's a good question. Honestly, I'm still with the big three.

• 19:48Speaker 02

  Really?

• 19:49Speaker 06

  Joko, Nadal and Roger.

• 19:51Speaker 02

  I love that answer.

• 19:51Speaker 06

Rather than Alcaraz and Sinner, yeah.

• 19:53Speaker 02

I, I'm a big Sinner person. I have so much fun watching him play tennis. I think the only other person that would have an opinion...

• 20:02Andrew Manganelli?

Is that the one with Michael B. Jordan?

• 20:03Speaker 02

All right, never mind. So, did you watch the event, the iPhone event?

• 20:07Speaker 06

The iPhone? I watched part of it.

• 20:09Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 20:09Speaker 06

I was driving while watching, actually.

• 20:11Andrew Manganelli?

Driving while listening, while listening, yeah, while listening.

• 20:16Speaker 02

  What part did you catch?

• 20:17Speaker 06

Um, I watched the iPhone Air.

• 20:19Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 20:20Speaker 06

Yeah, that part and, and a little bit of the Pro one.

• 20:24Speaker 02

I'm pretty stoked on the iPhone Air. I'm actually glad that this is, this is what we were able to talk about, because there's been a surprising lack of iPhone Air conversations so far out here.

• 20:34Andrew Manganelli?

There will be plenty of it.

• 20:35Speaker 02

Yeah. Here's, here's my first question. At any point in your life, what phone do you have right now?

• 20:41Speaker 06

  14 Pro.

• 20:41Speaker 02

Okay, sweet. So at any point in your life, have you overlooked at your 14 Pro and thought, "Man, I wish this was thinner"?

• 20:47Speaker 06

  Honestly, no.

• 20:50Speaker 02

  Right, okay, that seems...

• 20:51Andrew Manganelli?

Do you use a case on your phone?

• 20:52Speaker 06

  Yeah, yeah.

• 20:53Andrew Manganelli?

I still think, which kind of takes away from the beauty of all these thin phones, is the biggest benefit of it is being able to put a case on and feeling thin. Like, it's gonna hopefully feel like a regular phone with no case. And now, if that's good enough for you to potentially have a way worse battery life...

• 21:09Speaker 02

Well, they sold special cases that were super thin.

• 21:12Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, but then is that really protecting your phone?

• 21:14Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 21:15Speaker 06

  I was skeptical about that.

• 21:18Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, they do. They're doing the bumper for the iPhone Air this time.

• 21:21Speaker 02

  The bumper?

• 21:22Andrew Manganelli?

The bumper case, where it's just a case around the outside of the phone.

• 21:25Speaker 02

Oh my god. But the chrome rails are like my favorite part of that design.

• 21:28Andrew Manganelli?

Well, if you want to scratch the hell out of your chrome rails, then don't wear a case on it.

• 21:32Speaker 02

I will happily. I don't know. See, that's the thing. It's like iPhone Air feels like something nobody asked for, and yet I want it so bad.

• 21:40Speaker 06

I'm thinking the same thing. I was thinking of upgrading, and then I saw the renders and everything. And I was thinking like, oh, maybe it could look good, I don't know, but then I saw it now in the event and I was like, oof. I kind of like one.

• 21:55Andrew Manganelli?

See, they have a thing with making stuff look really good on screen.

• 21:59Speaker 02

  I know.

• 21:59Andrew Manganelli?

So what do you think of the new design language of the Pros with the like big plateau and the kind of like matte finished two-tone on the back?

• 22:06Speaker 06

Uh, it's kind of cool. I thought they will do more later with the plateau. But honestly, I'm not a big fan of the orange.

• 22:14Andrew Manganelli?

  No, okay.

• 22:15Speaker 06

A big fan of the orange.

• 22:16Andrew Manganelli?

That's fine, that's fine. We are. We were crushing it. Two of us are. No, a lot of our team is not a fan of the orange, it feels like, but Ellis and I are Team Orange.

• 22:23Speaker 02

  Yeah, we're both Team Orange.

• 22:24Speaker 06

I really like the vapor chamber.

• 22:27Andrew Manganelli?

  You do?

• 22:27Speaker 06

  Yes.

• 22:28Andrew Manganelli?

Do you have anything specific you're excited to use it for, or just overall efficiency?

• 22:33Speaker 06

Overall, because I take videos and photographs and a lot of times the screen dims. And that is the part I don't like.

• 22:42Andrew Manganelli?

That's actually a really interesting part.

• 22:43Speaker 06

  It's annoying.

• 22:43Andrew Manganelli?

Our guy at the studio who films a lot of our car stuff, I think he's excited for it because how often they're shooting on iPhone on video and it's overheating. So like, if that's actually... It sounds like between the vapor chamber and like the full one-piece body that's supposed to help dissipate heat, hopefully it won't overheat as much. We would probably be shooting on iPhone right now if we didn't think it would hook and overheat.

• 23:06Speaker 02

I've been making fun of the vapor chamber, like, I'm like, who really games on their iPhone? Forgetting that we had an entire meeting because we couldn't shoot this, this exact podcast on iPhone because we were worried it would overheat.

• 23:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, well.

• 23:19Speaker 02

So, want want, I guess Ellis, Ellis Zero, Ellis Two.

• 23:23Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. I think it's cooler than we thought. I don't know if it was cool enough for the Apple invite thing. Like, the invite tease always is supposed to be this huge thing. And I think vapor chamber is like, yeah, okay.

• 23:33Speaker 02

  Like, okay, yeah.

• 23:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Exactly.

• 23:35Speaker 02

I still can't believe that I've been talking all week about how an iPhone would overheat. And then I was like, but the vapor chamber's stupid. I actually don't know where the disconnect there happened to be.

• 23:43Andrew Manganelli?

Thank you for bringing him to his senses on here. We need someone like that.

• 23:46Speaker 02

Yeah, Martine really is, uh, can't step a notch everywhere. I got you, I got you.

• 23:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Thank you.

• 23:50Speaker 02

Oh my god. Um, are you a professional videographer, photographer? Is that just for hobby?

• 23:56Speaker 06

No, I just, I just like to take videos and pictures of a lot of things that I do. Like, in tennis, I used to take a lot of videos of myself playing against, uh, my teammates in college. And, like, the phone was, like, heating like crazy every time. And, like, you need to put it, uh, like, on the fence so it stays there and you have a better angle. And when you try to look at the screen, you cannot see anything. Because we played throughout the day, like...

• 24:26Speaker 02

  Right.

• 24:27Speaker 06

I was at Fresno Pacific and, uh, it was like, well, in Celsius, it's like 40 degrees over there. So it's pretty hot. So the, the screen is just black and I cannot see anything.

• 24:39Speaker 02

Ah, wow. This is like the best...

• 24:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Stinking in the sun, yeah.

• 24:42Speaker 02

This is the best real-world use case I've heard for this thing all, this whole time. Huh.

• 24:47Speaker 03

By the way, 40 degrees Celsius is 104.

• 24:50Andrew Manganelli?

Thank you. No, no, no worries, that's our fault.

• 24:54Speaker 02

Like, the heat radiating off a tennis court would be even crazier.

• 25:00Speaker 02

Martine, have you ever had an Android phone?

• 25:03Speaker 06

  I have, and, uh...

• 25:05Speaker 02

Don't sound too excited about it.

• 25:05Speaker 06

  Samsung S8.

• 25:07Andrew Manganelli?

S8? I think S8 was like peak Samsung.

• 25:09Speaker 06

  I agree.

• 25:10Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. If you had to go back right now, what would you go to?

• 25:15Speaker 06

If I will go back, it would be the, the fold.

• 25:19Andrew Manganelli?

  The Samsung Fold?

• 25:20Speaker 06

  Yeah. But, yeah, it's expensive.

• 25:22Andrew Manganelli?

This is so interesting. Everyone, everyone who's an iPhone user, we've asked, when we say if you go to an Android phone, they all want the Fold. They all want a folding phone, which, when Apple does one, is it gonna actually go crazy?

• 25:35Speaker 02

It's gonna go s... I, I don't wanna hype it up too much, but I just feel like...

• 25:40Speaker 02

There, yes, there's so many people, I feel like there's

• 25:44Andrew Manganelli?

  You're doing great, sweetie.

• 25:44Speaker 02

There's, there's two different kinds of iPad users, right? There's people who buy iPads because they want to sit on their couch and watch a movie. And there's people that buy iPads because they have some idea of some really like practical thing they could do with it.

• 25:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, like flying a plane.

• 25:59Speaker 02

And, sure, exactly. And I think I've found as a, as a pretty hardcore iPad user that the form factor actually gets in the way of a lot of stuff. It's not particularly portable, like truly portable. It doesn't, you'd still need a backpack. And at that point, it's like, why would I not just bring a laptop? And that is what the iPhone Fold is for.

• 26:19Andrew Manganelli?

All right, well, the iPhone Fold Generation 4 will probably be perfect for you.

• 26:23Speaker 02

Yeah, when I'm like 39 years old.

• 26:25Andrew Manganelli?

What's so bad about 39? I'm not that far away from that.

• 26:32Speaker 02

All right, welcome back. We have another interview right here for you. This time, someone we actually know.

• 26:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Hi.

• 26:38Speaker 02

From this world. This is Brad.

• 26:40Speaker 07

Hello, I'm Brad Bennett. I'm Canadian. I work at a Canadian tech blog called Mobile Syrup.

• 26:43Speaker 02

What is up, Mobile Syrup? I forget how much I love that until I hear you say it.

• 26:47Andrew Manganelli?

It's a great, great, great name.

• 26:49Speaker 02

Yeah. Brad, we don't really know each other, but I see you here.

• 26:52Speaker 07

Yeah, we met one time. We had a drink one time a few years ago.

• 26:54Speaker 02

  With, yeah, New York.

• 26:56Andrew Manganelli?

Brad, someone I remember, well, I was gonna say I see every time I come, but I haven't gotten an event badge in like, I mean.

• 27:01Speaker 07

We were in the like risers at one point.

• 27:04Andrew Manganelli?

We've been in the risers before, yeah, and I always see you around like at the cafe here and stuff like that.

• 27:08Speaker 07

Well, I'm glad you guys remember me. I'm happy to be here.

• 27:09Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, of course. And this is part of the joy of doing these events is like you see industry folk that you sometimes only see through these sort of things, but it's always a good time. Brad, we wanted to talk about Ceramic Shield.

• 27:21Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 27:21Speaker 02

Because, really, I didn't know anyone had strong opinions about Ceramic Shield at all.

• 27:27Speaker 07

Well, I'm doing this mostly for my fiance who just destroys phone screens every year. Just scratched really bad. She's not gonna be happy being on blast like this, but those, those screens look tough. And so, last year, they made a big deal about Ceramic Shield in the iPhone 16s being a lot better. And then throughout the year, you know, it didn't seem like that much better in my testing throughout the year. This year, they were like, well, we now have Ceramic Shield 2. And to me, I was like, wait, have we not had many generations of Ceramic Shield so far? But one of the guys on the floor was telling me today that previously it was just called Next Generation Ceramic Shield. It's one of those classic Apple.

• 28:01Andrew Manganelli?

That is the most Apple thing possible.

• 28:04Speaker 07

And then this year, I think it's 3X scratch resistance as opposed to the previous one. So they thought that that was a big enough jump to finally add the number two to the end. So that's, that's what I learned about Ceramic Shield.

• 28:13Speaker 02

When you have your second kid, don't call it your second kid, just say it's your next generation.

• 28:17Andrew Manganelli?

The next generation, it's lame, next generation.

• 28:19Speaker 07

If you have a third kid that you really like, that could actually.

• 28:22Andrew Manganelli?

  That's lame too.

• 28:26Andrew Manganelli?

What did you think, or first I want to ask, we see her all the time. Do you know what number Apple event this is for you?

• 28:31Speaker 07

This, I think. So I started coming in, just to be sort of tailing out of COVID and travel, starting to get back up for these things. So my first Apple event was WWDC M2 MacBook Air. Maybe three years ago.

• 28:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, that sounds about right.

• 28:44Speaker 07

  I think three.

• 28:45Andrew Manganelli?

Then you're out like sixth event probably?

• 28:48Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 28:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Two, two a year?

• 28:49Speaker 07

Yeah, two here, and then sometimes they have smaller events. Sometimes in Toronto, they'll do little things like if there's an iPad or whatnot. But yeah, this is my, and this is my second Apple event as a full-on reporter. My very first one, I was just the camera guy for our website. Cause I do a little.

• 29:01Speaker 02

Cause I remember you had the craziest camera rig the last time I saw you here.

• 29:06Speaker 07

Uh, maybe, oh, with the big gimbal with like the armband thing.

• 29:09Speaker 02

And then you also had the, the Peak Design Backpack holster things. You're like, I was like, this is camera Batman over here. Canadian camera Batman.

• 29:17Speaker 07

The only time I used that clip, I bought it thinking I'd use it all the time. The only time I ever use it is here because I'm just like, I have to hold the phone. I gotta put my camera somewhere and they don't let you put your cameras on the tables really when you're in there.

• 29:25Andrew Manganelli?

It's really annoying the things you can't do in there. Marquez loses it because he's using like his huge red rig and we can't bring sticks in there. They usually, we can't even bring the camera. We have to check it because it's in like a roller bag. He's not gonna sit with it on his lap.

• 29:38Speaker 07

I could see that, yeah, they are tight with the security, all the metal detectors sometimes.

• 29:41Andrew Manganelli?

They're super tight with it. Was there anything that stood out in this one too? Or like the new iPhone design language?

• 29:47Speaker 07

Definitely, I mean, the Air, I'm super excited about it. It just feels so good when you pull it, pick it up and you hold it in your hand. It just feels like a pane of glass.

• 29:54Andrew Manganelli?

You're the first person we're talking to that held it.

• 29:56Speaker 07

  Really?

• 29:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 29:57Speaker 07

Well, it's really nice. The sides are glossy, so it kind of gives you that old 14 Pro feeling or 13 Pro feeling, but obviously it's titanium. They're saying it's going to do like 26 hours of battery life with like streaming video, whatever that metric is.

• 30:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 30:10Speaker 07

And that's supposed to be as good as I think the 16 Pro from last year. So this phone is actually stacking up to be a lot better than we had anticipated.

• 30:17Andrew Manganelli?

  For sure.

• 30:18Speaker 07

  On paper.

• 30:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 30:20Speaker 07

Once we get it into like, you know, the labs and we're testing things out and Marquez and all you guys are using this a lot more, we'll see how that holds up. But it just, I don't know, people, it doesn't seem to make sense thinner phones, but when you hold it, it's just like there's this magic moment. I'm sure if you guys hold the edge, that's.

• 30:34Andrew Manganelli?

I was gonna say that the edge was this like, hey, that's pretty cool. It came in the studio, all of us were like, oh my gosh. And then I was thinking the other day, I was like, where's our edge? Where has anyone talked about it or held it? But as an iPhone, it's probably a bit more popular.

• 30:47Speaker 07

  I think so.

• 30:48Andrew Manganelli?

I think more people will appreciate that.

• 30:50Speaker 07

I agree. Yeah, and then, you know, just the last cherry on top is I think liquid glass was kind of leaning towards the air and just when you hold it, that like glassy effect. Everything together. You know, I've been dreaming of the tri-fold thin phone from Westworld for years. We're getting there. This is a step in the direction.

• 31:05Speaker 02

Yeah, I actually, I've heard a few musings on the internet about how the air was actually sort of like a stepping stone for the fold to just get.

• 31:14Speaker 07

  I think people wanted it.

• 31:15Speaker 02

And like, well, as far as they're manufacturing.

• 31:18Speaker 07

Exactly. That's, I've been thinking that same thing. It's like they're making phones thinner to fold them. This is the stop app to just like, you know, the screen's not ready in the foldable, it's not tough enough or whatever. Well, we can make them thin, people are gonna like it.

• 31:29Speaker 02

  How does the plateau feel?

• 31:31Speaker 07

Yes, the plateau. Um, I like, it's up high, so you don't really notice it. And this, apparently the A19 Pro chip is in the plateau. So I'm really excited to see if that really takes the heat away from my hand while I'm holding it. Could be exciting.

• 31:44Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 31:45Speaker 07

Um, will it apply a lot of heat to the camera stuff that's right beside it and will that be a negative? I don't know.

• 31:50Andrew Manganelli?

It is wild that they shoved everything in the plateau to basically, because they need every centimeter or millimeter there for battery, yeah, which is, I wasn't expecting that.

• 31:59Speaker 07

Actually, I will say for Canadian fans, if you're not reading Mobile Service, you should because we're covering on this, but this is the first year that all of the iPhones are eSIM only in Canada, it seems. We're finally, we're finally getting on that train.

• 32:07Speaker 02

So you get that extra, that little extra battery?

• 32:11Speaker 07

I was like, I'm importing a phone if we don't get that. Like, I will take all the battery I can get.

• 32:15Andrew Manganelli?

Is this like one of the first times we're gonna have the two SKUs of like the, and one's gonna have a better battery life?

• 32:20Speaker 07

It seems like it. Cause they, it seemed like in the old ones, the SIM card chip, the old one, and the American models was just filled with a little piece of plastic or something?

• 32:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Uh huh.

• 32:28Speaker 07

And so now, yeah, it's like, there's a big battery difference. And I, I think actually, that's what Apple needed to kind of push people towards eSIM. It's like, there was never really a big reason to

• 32:35Andrew Manganelli?

  That's a fair point.

• 32:36Speaker 07

care about it. But it's like, I'm gonna get a little battery, which I do care a lot about.

• 32:39Andrew Manganelli?

Cause Pixel just went all eSIM on all of them, not even just the US models, so. And they didn't tout anything about it, or maybe they said, who knows?

• 32:48Speaker 07

Yeah, I didn't watch that one as much, you know, Jimmy Fallon, I guess.

• 32:51Speaker 02

Jimmy Fallon wasn't talking about eSIM.

• 32:53Andrew Manganelli?

Jimmy Fallon got us a great title and great click-through rate on our podcast episode, so you know, I'm pro Jimmy Fallon.

• 32:58Speaker 07

Alright, yeah, I probably won't bring in the click-through like Jimmy.

• 33:00Andrew Manganelli?

  No, I think you will.

• 33:01Speaker 02

While, while you're here though, there is one thing from this event that I really wanna talk about, which is

• 33:07Andrew Manganelli?

Of course you wanna talk about it, Ellis.

• 33:08Speaker 02

  Live translation.

• 33:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh yeah.

• 33:10Speaker 02

Which, I don't know if, I don't know if you listen to the show, but I have been saying for over a year now, that this is not gonna come out anytime soon.

• 33:19Andrew Manganelli?

It was worse than that. It was, what are your predictions for this year? And Ellis said, there is zero chance live translation comes, and every single event since he said that has introduced live translation in some way.

• 33:30Speaker 02

And I was feeling like, wow, I really, I really did not do a good job with that prediction. And this event changed my mind. Because I watched their live translation little thing, and I was like, nope. I was like, this is not gonna work. And not because of the event. Made it seem like it didn't work. They didn't really demo it in real life at all. But it just feels like one of those things that's like such a game changer in tech. That why would they give it only five minutes of the event unless it just straight up doesn't work?

• 33:58Speaker 07

  Yeah, that's fair. That's a good point.

• 34:01Speaker 02

  Have you tested it?

• 34:02Speaker 07

I have not. I did put the AirPods in. They feel a little different in the ear. The noise cancelling was good, but I didn't, I didn't do the translation thing. I should have. I didn't think about it. I don't know if the person.

• 34:09Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know if they probably would have. At this point, maybe if you have a briefing later, you'd be able to test it out. It felt weird though that they like, talked about it for five minutes, sandwiched between like, you know, foam in the ear tips and like a slightly different design or whatever.

• 34:24Speaker 07

You cannot feel the foam in the ear.

• 34:25Andrew Manganelli?

  You can't feel it?

• 34:25Speaker 07

They feel the same to me. I don't know.

• 34:27Speaker 02

And then also, it's the kind of thing where like, part of this crazy rant was I pulled up a list of every single time a tech company has announced live translations since 2014.

• 34:37Speaker 07

I was gonna say, you gotta go back pretty far.

• 34:38Speaker 02

  It's dozens.

• 34:39Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 34:39Speaker 02

And we still don't really have it.

• 34:41Speaker 07

Well, the thing I kind of think is I just feel like it's like ultra, ultra niche, you know, like I, my girlfriend's from Mexico. She speaks Spanish, but we don't speak Spanish at home unless, and if her parents are over, they'll speak English because in there sometimes they'll speak a little Spanish, but like, are we all gonna sit there with AirPods in so we can communicate in this weird way? I don't, I don't think so. I guess like if you travel a lot maybe, but I also think about in those instances, like I'm wearing my AirPods. I woke up to you. I'm like, we're gonna do this thing. You have no idea what I'm talking about, right? I'm like just putting a phone in your face and I'm like, what, where do I go for this thing? And I'm in broken language or whatever. I don't know. It seems like a tough one. Helpful if it works, but.

• 35:14Speaker 02

Yeah. Well, we'll see if I have to eat my words.

• 35:17Speaker 07

Yeah. I ate my hat on the orange one. I was like, every year the renders come out with crazy colors. There's no way we're seeing an orange Pro. And then just like boom.

• 35:24Andrew Manganelli?

What did you think of the orange?

• 35:26Speaker 07

It's exciting. I think it's fun. I guess because they're doing the aluminum, it's found the time to slap on some crazy colors, but um, it's pretty, pretty bombastic compared to the Pro iPhones of the past. I, I personally was a huge fan of Desert Titanium last year. I just liked that earth, that earth tone element. So a little sad to see that fade away, but it's exciting. And I think people online seem to be reacting pretty positively to it.

• 35:47Andrew Manganelli?

I like it. I, yeah, both of us love the orange. Our team is pretty split on it, I think, but I don't know. I'm for orange. And it matches the like, the Watch Pro like, uh, or sorry, Watch Ultra.

• 35:59Speaker 07

That would have been actually a good.

• 36:00Andrew Manganelli?

Or maybe not totally match it.

• 36:02Speaker 07

I don't think it actually, I don't know. I wish I would have brought my Watch Ultra to compare.

• 36:05Speaker 02

It matches the, um, the, the crown.

• 36:07Speaker 07

Yeah, it probably, yeah, that's a bit brighter. You're right. And it's probably like, you're not gonna be having them close enough that it's gonna matter that much, but yeah, maybe. I don't know, Apple does that strange sometimes. I mean, last year they had the blue Air and the blue iPad Air, and they're both like ever so slightly different. And it was like, guys, come on, we need to match this stuff.

• 36:22Andrew Manganelli?

This iPad Mini, when I bought it, it's, I accidentally bought purple, and I didn't realize I bought purple for like weeks after. When I reread my receipt, I thought I had silver the entire time. This is barely even purple.

• 36:34Speaker 07

You're just always out at like dusk and you're like, oh man.

• 36:38Speaker 07

Yeah, one time my girlfriend was, or I guess, I was trying to sell her old MacBook Air M1, it was the gold one, and the dude showed up and it was like dusk and it was looking really rose gold. And he was like, I'm not buying this pink laptop, and he left. And we were like, this is gold, dude, I'm telling you. And he was like, not a chance am I using this, and he left.

• 36:52Andrew Manganelli?

  That's awesome.

• 36:54Speaker 02

My first iPhone was rose gold. I remember just feeling...

• 36:57Speaker 07

Back in the day, it was a power move.

• 36:58Speaker 02

I remember it was so cool. It was a rose gold 4S.

• 37:02Speaker 07

Wow. No, it was, I think 5 or 5S. I don't think they had a rose gold 4S.

• 37:06Speaker 02

No, you're right. I'm lying about this. I had a rose gold 5 and/or 5S, and my 4S was white.

• 37:12Speaker 07

Cool. Was your 4S your first one?

• 37:14Speaker 02

  I am old. What?

• 37:15Speaker 07

Your 4, was the 4S your first one?

• 37:16Speaker 02

4S was the first one. I had two Android phones before that, and the 4S was my Switch. And I, and I remember, it was right around the time they made the iOS update where everything was really thin, just like...

• 37:27Speaker 07

  Hmm, a 7, I guess?

• 37:29Speaker 02

I guess that was 7, yeah. And I just remember feeling like I was in the future. Yeah. I felt like, I remember feeling, do they have Ruka in Canada?

• 37:38Speaker 07

  Is that a food?

• 37:39Speaker 02

  It's spelled R-V-C-A. It's like a surf brand.

• 37:41Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, that's how you pronounce that? I've never heard that. I thought it was just R-V-C-A.

• 37:45Speaker 02

No, it's pronounced Ruka. And to me, I just remember feeling like I had the Ruka phone. I don't know, those two aesthetic, the iOS 7. Maybe this is me. Maybe we should just add this. Maybe we should never make another episode of the Waveform Podcast.

• 37:56Andrew Manganelli?

One more question that has nothing to do with this Apple event. So Marques recently has been having issues with his Arc browser, and we're all separately trying to convince him to use a different browser.

• 38:06Speaker 07

Aren't those guys like going out, didn't they sell?

• 38:08Andrew Manganelli?

Oh my goodness, it's very confusing. They claim they're not sunsetting it, but we all know they're sunsetting it. If you had to pitch him a browser of what he should use, what should it be?

• 38:18Speaker 07

I mean, this is not a good option, but I've been like really iOS 26. So I've been using Safari on my Mac lately.

• 38:26Speaker 02

  Sorry.

• 38:26Speaker 07

And it looks great. Maybe it doesn't look bad. I, and I know you can do this on a lot of different ones, but you can set that like custom wallpaper on your launch page and everything just looks cool and it all matches. And I'm like, you know, a browser is a browser. If I need something crazy, it's not working, I'll just open up Chrome and I know it's gonna work. But for 90% of the time, I just want it to look nice and I'm in Safari. Are you on that train?

• 38:44Speaker 02

Of course I'm on that train. Doesn't it feel nice to have RAM in your computer that's available?

• 38:48Speaker 07

Yeah, and it feels like, it feels nice to look pretty, you know, like I just, I just wanna be pretty. Why did I pay for all that RAM if I'm not gonna use it?

• 38:53Speaker 02

Dude, nothing drives me more insane than when I open Chrome and I'm like, let's just open like Activity Monitor and see what's going on. And Chrome is just like, oh, you've got 64GB of RAM available? I'll just use all of it. You don't need it for anything else, right?

• 39:06Speaker 07

These tabs are gonna fly, but don't open Photoshop.

• 39:10Speaker 02

  Brad, it's been a pleasure.

• 39:12Speaker 07

Thank you guys for having me. It was really good to see you guys again and a blast.

• 39:15Speaker 02

Yes, go read Brad's writing and watch his videos.

• 39:19Speaker 07

Yeah, I think it must be social videos on our Instagram for this one, just a sign of downsizing on our end. But lots of stuff on the website and I'll be excited to watch this episode.

• 39:27Speaker 02

  Is it mobilesyrup.ca or mobilesyrup.com?

• 39:30Speaker 07

It's actually mobilesyrup.com for whatever reason. That was before my time. I don't know how that happened. I think if you type.ca, it might redirect, but that might have gone away as we've kind of shoveled through different owners over the last couple of years. But yeah, thank you guys so much and happy iPhone Day. Thank you.

All right, welcome back. We have another new guest. What's your name?

• 42:17Speaker 10

  Hi, my name is Pratamesh.

• 42:19Speaker 01

  Pratamesh?

• 42:19Speaker 10

  Yep.

• 42:20Speaker 01

  It's great to meet you.

• 42:21Speaker 02

  Welcome to Waveform.

• 42:22Speaker 01

Yeah, welcome to Waveform. We were hanging out over there when we were just talking with Brett and you came on. You said you've been a longtime listener, right? Awesome. Thank you.

• 42:29Speaker 10

I haven't missed a single episode since 2022. I might have missed a couple of videos on the main channel, but not on Waveform.

• 42:34Speaker 01

We'll make sure Marquez knows about that. I will tell him immediately. Thanks for the support. That's awesome. You're here in Cupertino. You watched the event previously?

• 42:43Speaker 10

I didn't watch it. In person?

• 42:44Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you saw it. We didn't watch it in person. We're out here because we didn't get to go in and do.

• 42:50Speaker 10

Yeah, I I work here at AMD. So I I just saw you guys Instagram story.

• 42:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 42:56Speaker 10

And let me just drive here.

• 42:57Andrew Manganelli?

Awesome. It worked. We got at least one person from it, which is a success.

• 43:01Speaker 10

I wasn't sure you guys would be still here or not, so I just drove quickly and.

• 43:06Andrew Manganelli?

Awesome. Thanks for coming. Yeah. Was there anything from the event that really stood out? Are you an iPhone user?

• 43:11Speaker 10

  Yeah, I am.

• 43:12Andrew Manganelli?

You are? Okay. What are you on right now?

• 43:13Speaker 10

  I'm on 15 Pro Max.

• 43:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 43:15Speaker 10

  Yeah.

• 43:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Are you looking to upgrade?

• 43:17Speaker 10

Uh, not for 17. I was looking if there was something interesting, but didn't quite got sold out to that thing.

• 43:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Sure.

• 43:24Speaker 10

  I really like the air.

• 43:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 43:26Speaker 10

It's thin, but I'm someone who likes multiple cameras for like night photography. So I don't think so how much beneficial it'll be for me from going to 15 Pro Max to the iPhone Air.

• 43:38Andrew Manganelli?

  I think that's fair.

• 43:39Speaker 10

  So.

• 43:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, yeah. Yeah.

• 43:41Speaker 10

  Yeah.

• 43:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Probably not like an upgrade.

• 43:42Speaker 10

Maybe I'll just wait for 18 then.

• 43:44Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Do, what'd you think of the orange color?

• 43:46Speaker 10

  I didn't like it.

• 43:47Andrew Manganelli?

  You didn't like it?

• 43:48Speaker 10

No, I I felt it. It was like cartoonish for me.

• 43:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Cartoonish?

• 43:51Speaker 10

  Yeah.

• 43:52Speaker 02

Whoa, I haven't heard that yet.

• 43:53Andrew Manganelli?

I haven't heard that. I actually thought it felt a little, I'd go the ob, like not cartoony. It felt more like, like coppery kind of.

• 44:02Speaker 02

I haven't seen it in person.

• 44:03Andrew Manganelli?

Well, we've seen a picture of it. Yeah, we're saying everything.

• 44:05Speaker 02

  Only seen pictures of it.

• 44:06Andrew Manganelli?

That's fair, yeah. Well, he hasn't seen it in person either. We're all going off the same thing here.

• 44:12Speaker 02

  Isn't actually an orange iPhone?

• 44:13Andrew Manganelli?

That would be crazy. We're all just getting pranked right now? I don't think so. Where's Ashton Kutcher?

• 44:18Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. Where is Ashton Kutcher?

• 44:19Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, so nothing about the phones are gonna upgrade. Were you interested in anything from the new AirPods or the new Apple Watch? What Apple Watch are you?

• 44:26Speaker 10

Yeah, I have the Series 8.

• 44:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Series 8, okay.

• 44:29Speaker 10

Yeah, I was looking for an upgrade. This too, and I think Ultra 3 would be a good upgrade for me. And the satellite feature is something which I don't know how much it'll be useful in like day to day life, but yeah, this is something good to have. And yeah, like I think Apple, even I like the AirPods Pro 3 as well. They, I don't know, like I haven't seen it in person, but they look more elegant than I I I have the first gen. Pro two, the lightning ones.

• 44:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 44:56Speaker 10

And uh, I think that would be also another big upgrade for me. So yeah, those are the two things. Uh, I was, I was thinking between the series 11, uh, the watch, sorry, watch 11 or the uh, Ultra 3, but I think uh, Ultra 3 looks great and it looks more rugged. And I like the aura look, it's kinda same than from the Ultras, but yeah.

• 45:17Andrew Manganelli?

Uh huh. Do you, what are your, how well do you think live translation is gonna work?

• 45:22Speaker 10

  Uh, okay.

• 45:24Speaker 10

Yes, never thought of. I, the only one time when I used live translation, that is using my Meta Glasses.

• 45:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 45:31Speaker 10

  Yeah, and that was.

• 45:32Speaker 02

  Wait, those have live translation?

• 45:33Speaker 10

Yeah, they do. But like, not exactly live translation, so there was like a text and it translated me in English directly.

• 45:40Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, it was text, okay. And then audio, okay.

• 45:43Speaker 02

  Uh, Ellis is still right.

• 45:46Andrew Manganelli?

Ellis is still, do you remember Ellis making the prediction that there will be no live translation? Yeah, and every single event has had it since.

• 45:52Speaker 02

Yeah, but no feat, it's not, you can't buy live translation yet. I'm still technically right.

• 45:57Speaker 10

  Yeah.

• 45:59Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know about that one.

• 46:03Andrew Manganelli?

Um, yeah, we're, it felt like, did not feel like they just kind of like, put it between two random other new feature upgrade and kind of like glossed over it completely.

• 46:12Speaker 10

And also the, the demo they showed like that, there's some kind of business meeting going on like, and like that felt so artificial like, nobody talks when there is like a delay of five second between what I say and what you say.

• 46:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 46:24Speaker 10

I, I feel, I'd rather just like have a real interpreter and then talk if, rather than having some gimmick a feature.

• 46:32Andrew Manganelli?

  I agree.

• 46:33Speaker 02

Yeah, how, how much latency until it's not live anymore?

• 46:36Speaker 10

  Yeah.

• 46:36Speaker 02

You know, let's, let's be real here.

• 46:38Andrew Manganelli?

I think, I think they're doing, they're doing the like, the documentary style like overdub vibe where like you hear it for a second and then it comes later.

• 46:46Speaker 02

  Maybe two seconds.

• 46:48Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. Well, we didn't actually see it really work. We just saw a demo.

• 46:51Speaker 02

It's September, okay? We got three more months of 2025. I think I'm sailing clear with this prediction gonna win. I'm not cooked. I thought I was cooked.

• 46:59Andrew Manganelli?

It will be good, just good enough to make you eat your words, but no one will actually use it. That's my.

• 47:05Speaker 02

And frankly, if that's the case, humanity will be better off. You know, I truly believe that all these tech companies were like, oh, Ellis said we couldn't. Let's show him.

• 47:14Andrew Manganelli?

  That's definitely what they're doing.

• 47:15Speaker 02

Alright, I got a question. Billions of dollars of investments just to show me who, you know.

• 47:19Speaker 03

What do you think is Ellis's battery life?

• 47:20Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, this is the last question we need you to answer.

• 47:23Speaker 10

I will ask Ellis when I meet him.

• 47:25Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. We want you to guess. You're allowed to ask him questions about how he's been doing today, too.

• 47:30Speaker 02

I think I, 12 minutes, I took my phone off the charger at probably like...

• 47:38Speaker 03

  It is right now 2:26.

• 47:39Andrew Manganelli?

  At 11 a.m.?

• 47:40Speaker 02

  Yeah, right when we left.

• 47:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 47:42Speaker 02

  So...

• 47:43Andrew Manganelli?

You used it earlier, though, right? Because you were up pretty early and went for a run. Did you not bring it?

• 47:47Speaker 02

Yeah, but I charged it after that. So I think, and I think it fully charged during the event. So I think, I think we could say I stopped charging it about three and a half hours ago.

• 47:53Speaker 10

  Okay, let me guess.

• 47:54Andrew Manganelli?

  2:30 now.

• 47:55Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 47:55Speaker 10

Uh, I will go with 35.

• 47:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, that's a good guess.

• 48:00Speaker 02

No, but I am at 72.

• 48:03Andrew Manganelli?

About 35 off. Now, to be fair, we've been sitting here doing this and he hasn't really been using it?

• 48:09Speaker 02

Yeah, that's true. That's 72 having not used it. I've also noticed that the first half drains a lot slower than the second half.

• 48:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Like, just tanks?

• 48:18Speaker 02

Like, well, for example, yesterday, when I was boarding the plane, my phone was at 37, and when the plane took off, it was at 5.

• 48:28Speaker 03

I just want to say you're a psycho for getting on a plane at 37%.

• 48:31Speaker 02

Dude, I do everything at 37%. I do everything at 37%.

• 48:36Andrew Manganelli?

I would go home if my phone was at 37%. I would be way too scared to be out anywhere.

• 48:41Speaker 02

As somebody who listens to the podcast and clearly knows my struggle, what phone should I upgrade to?

• 48:48Speaker 10

I feel, anyways, battery is something, no matter whatever you get, it's an upgrade for you, so...

• 48:55Andrew Manganelli?

  16e.

• 48:58Speaker 10

So I think 17 Air would be, not 17, just iPhone Air would be a...

• 49:03Speaker 02

Oh, wait, they're just calling it iPhone.

• 49:04Andrew Manganelli?

That's a good point. Yeah, yeah. We thought that was weird. That doesn't feel good for longevity, I feel like. They're putting it in this weird spot where it's been like, two Minis, two, what did they call them?

• 49:17Speaker 02

  Max.

• 49:17Andrew Manganelli?

  The Maxes, right?

• 49:18Speaker 02

  No, they were Pluses.

• 49:19Andrew Manganelli?

Was it Plus? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Plus, and now the Air. Like, what are the chances that it's just two generations and then we try something else?

• 49:26Speaker 10

I'm curious about what will they call an Air for next year? Will it be Air 2 or Air 18?

• 49:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 49:32Speaker 02

  Damn.

• 49:33Andrew Manganelli?

I have an orgish air again, but they call it second gen like subtext. I feel like that's very Apple. Yeah, the new air.

• 49:41Speaker 02

Welcome back. I keep saying welcome back as if these are not like hard cuts between these interviews. Still at Apple Park. It's way hotter out now and we are with Allison.

• 49:52Speaker 11

  Hello.

• 49:53Speaker 02

  Allison.

• 49:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Thank you for joining.

• 49:54Speaker 02

Can you introduce yourself and maybe explain what you're doing on this beautiful Cupertino day?

• 49:58Speaker 11

I just happened to be in Cupertino.

• 50:01Andrew Manganelli?

You just found the badge somewhere?

• 50:02Speaker 11

Yeah, someone put this badge on me. Allison Johnson, I write for The Verge. I'm a smartphone lady and I gabble in wireless carriers, so.

• 50:13Speaker 02

Very, very fun. How did you feel about the event?

• 50:17Speaker 11

Well, it was more interesting than the last few have been, honestly. You know, the redesign on the Pro is kinda, kinda something.

• 50:27Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, explain something. That sounds like not good.

• 50:30Speaker 11

Yeah, it's a strong look. You know, the, are you guys gonna say?

• 50:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Plateau.

• 50:37Speaker 11

Plateau. Are you gonna say plateau?

• 50:38Andrew Manganelli?

For the next week and then probably stop saying it.

• 50:41Speaker 02

I was thinking about calling it the Mesa, just to be sort of, you know, against the grain. But yeah, I think plateau is nice.

• 50:48Speaker 11

Yeah, it is kind of a Mesa, though. Yeah.

• 50:52Speaker 02

That's what I'm saying. I like the plateau.

• 50:55Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it looks good.

• 50:56Speaker 02

I've been extolling the virtues of the plateau all day, actually.

• 51:00Speaker 11

  Yeah, I don't, I don't think I've made up my mind, but it's different. It's like, it's a different thing.

• 51:06Speaker 02

This is, it's kinda weird for me to say because I've never been fond of like the visor aesthetic that a lot of.

• 51:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Like Pixel Visor?

• 51:13Speaker 02

Yeah, like the Pixel Visor. I was about to say a lot of phones, but I think it's just the Pixel that does the visor.

• 51:16Andrew Manganelli?

They've done some of the old, like Huawei's had this big like, but that used to be like when they, they were putting like a screen on the back of it. So it'd be more sense. This seems like they're shoving a lot of internals into it, at least for the air, right?

• 51:26Speaker 11

  Right.

• 51:27Speaker 02

Yeah, that, that nice sort of like smooth CNC'd wall up to the, I don't know, I'm into it. And I was trying to explain this earlier and I couldn't, but it makes the phone feel like a control panel. Or like a console, like part of a cockpit that I like, really, really like. It's asymmetrical symmetry. Sorry.

• 51:43Speaker 11

Yeah, no, like the back panel having that, the little patch of like ceramic shield is interesting. I smashed this iPhone back glass. I won't blame my four-year-old, but it was maybe a kind of his fault. So I could've used that. But yeah, it's something interesting, different. A 48 megapixel telephoto camera could be cool. We'll have to see.

• 52:10Andrew Manganelli?

What did you think of the air?

• 52:12Speaker 11

  The air is very light.

• 52:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, you held it, right?

• 52:16Speaker 11

  Strikingly light.

• 52:19Speaker 03

  Oh, we're getting interference.

• 52:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 52:20Speaker 11

  I tested the, um...

• 52:22Speaker 02

How bad is it? Is it like, did it go and go away, or is it still, is it still happening?

• 52:26Speaker 03

  Wait, can you talk? Sorry.

• 52:27Speaker 11

  Oh, hello.

• 52:28Speaker 03

  Oh, we're good.

• 52:29Speaker 11

  Is it good?

• 52:30Speaker 02

  Did you start that idea?

• 52:31Speaker 11

  Okay.

• 52:33Speaker 11

Yeah, the air is super light. It's, you know, as thin as it seems it is from the photos.

• 52:41Speaker 03

Is it like the S25 Edge?

• 52:43Speaker 11

Like the S25 Edge. It is slightly thinner.

• 52:47Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 52:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 52:47Speaker 11

Yes. But once you get down to like, that width of a hair, I don't know. Like, if anybody won there. Yeah, it's, it's one of those things like you kind of live with it for a little bit, at least with the edge. And you're like, this is nicer. This is lighter. As long as the battery...

• 53:07Speaker 03

Is that the one you're excited to test?

• 53:08Speaker 11

Yeah, as long, as long as the battery holds up and, yeah, it's in my back pocket if it... Yeah, it's turned into a flip phone, yeah.

• 53:16Speaker 02

Oh my gosh. What phone do you have right now?

• 53:18Speaker 11

  I got the 16 Pro.

• 53:20Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 53:20Speaker 11

Not Max. I put a case on it. I hate cases, but the, the back is busted.

• 53:28Andrew Manganelli?

To prevent it from getting any more busted.

• 53:29Speaker 11

Yeah, and also for, so Apple doesn't see that I busted their review.

• 53:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Whoops.

• 53:35Speaker 11

  Sorry, Steph.

• 53:38Speaker 11

  I'll go get it repaired.

• 53:39Andrew Manganelli?

So I guess if you were, would you trust the air with your four-year-old?

• 53:44Speaker 11

Oh God, that's the question, isn't it?

• 53:46Andrew Manganelli?

I haven't even thought of that.

• 53:47Speaker 11

That might be the ultimate test of ceramic shield.

• 53:50Andrew Manganelli?

You should, that would be a good article of like a...

• 53:53Speaker 11

Four-year-old in a concrete, you know, pavement slab.

• 53:57Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:58Speaker 11

  Who's left standing?

• 53:59Speaker 02

Also, I just feel like it'd be so enticing to put in your mouth if I was four-year-old. That was like the worst way I could have said it. We're not gonna change it. But you know what I mean, like? We've been wondering, do you think the live translation will actually work?

• 54:12Speaker 11

Oh, God, I haven't like used a live translation thing that hasn't been super awkward.

• 54:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 54:18Speaker 11

Like, I think in like a staged demo or a very careful, like,

• 54:23Speaker 11

you're ordering at a restaurant or whatever, it's been okay.

• 54:26Andrew Manganelli?

Where someone's not like talking back to you and you need to go back and forth.

• 54:28Speaker 11

  Yeah.

• 54:29Andrew Manganelli?

It's like saying one thing you need to, that you can rehearse, pretty much.

• 54:32Speaker 11

Yeah, it like having a normal conversation seems, I don't know.

• 54:37Speaker 02

Hypothetically, if someone at the beginning of the year was like, there's no way any like functional live translation comes out this year. Would you be like, that person's like really smart and knows what to talk about?

• 54:49Speaker 11

  I see what's happening here.

• 54:51Speaker 02

  I don't know about that.

• 54:52Speaker 11

I am not taking sides in this, in this beef.

• 54:56Speaker 02

  Alison.

• 54:58Speaker 11

  It's intriguing.

• 54:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Good call.

• 55:00Speaker 02

But hypothetically, assuming, you know, not that anyone did say this, but like if they did, like, and they needed an outside opinion, because him and his friends have been arguing about it all year.

• 55:09Speaker 11

  Yeah.

• 55:10Speaker 02

  You would say.

• 55:11Speaker 11

I'm on the side of skeptical. I don't know if, if it's gonna work.

• 55:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Very excited you said that.

• 55:17Speaker 02

Yeah. Been getting a lot of, hypothetically, a lot of hypotheticals for this thing I said allegedly. But, uh, yeah. Did you feel like it was put in a weird place in this event? I, I think the sort of a leading question, but.

• 55:30Speaker 11

  Yeah.

• 55:31Andrew Manganelli?

They glossed over it pretty quick.

• 55:32Speaker 11

They didn't really know what to do with it. Yeah. They're like, here you go. In the, the, even just in the hands-on afterward, the layout was weird because it's usually like iPhone, iPhone Pro, watches, earbuds. They just had little cases of earbuds, like little boxes. They were walking around like they were chocolate or something, you know, like.

• 55:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Like hors d'oeuvres?

• 55:55Speaker 11

Yeah, like an old timey like stewardess or something. They just had the AirPods, yeah.

• 56:02Speaker 02

  Do they feel considerably smaller?

• 56:04Speaker 11

I didn't pick them up. I had to, there are three friggin phones this year.

• 56:10Andrew Manganelli?

You're focusing on all of them.

• 56:12Speaker 11

I did not partake in the AirPods.

• 56:15Speaker 02

  Oh my gosh.

• 56:15Andrew Manganelli?

Did we ask thoughts on orange yet?

• 56:17Speaker 11

Orange, I'm pro orange. I like it. It's bold.

• 56:21Andrew Manganelli?

We're pro also. We've had a lot of people who don't like it though.

• 56:23Speaker 11

  Really?

• 56:24Andrew Manganelli?

I'm really surprised by that. I think it's a really fun color.

• 56:26Speaker 11

  It's good. Fun is good.

• 56:28Speaker 02

The orange is the best thing about it. The design is terrible. No, no, no, we already, we're already, we're, we're pro. We're pro Mesa over here. It's already been established.

• 56:37Andrew Manganelli?

All right, we have one more question for you. If hypothetically someone on this podcast was using an iPhone 12 mini and took it off the charger at 11 a.m. this morning, what do you think his battery life is?

• 56:49Speaker 02

  His or her?

• 56:50Andrew Manganelli?

  30s?

• 56:51Speaker 11

  In the 30s.

• 56:52Andrew Manganelli?

You're the second person to guess 30s.

• 56:53Speaker 11

  Yeah.

• 56:54Speaker 02

If I had actually been using it all day.

• 56:55Speaker 11

You got the 12 mini here?

• 56:58Speaker 02

  No case.

• 56:59Speaker 11

My 13 mini is at home. It doesn't get to travel.

• 57:03Speaker 02

I get it. So we asked our last, no, two people ago, we asked, and I said, I was at 73, I'm already at 66.

• 57:11Andrew Manganelli?

And he hasn't even used it in the process.

• 57:13Speaker 02

  At all.

• 57:14Speaker 11

  Oh no.

• 57:14Speaker 02

Yeah, so I will be upgrading.

• 57:16Andrew Manganelli?

This year. What do you think you should upgrade to?

• 57:20Speaker 11

They cut it off. When, when they're like, it's a security risk.

• 57:24Speaker 02

I, I made the, so we're, we're still three years away from that somehow, which is crazy. I made the mistake of getting a base storage 12 mini.

• 57:33Speaker 11

  Oh.

• 57:33Speaker 02

Which after five years, I think of my 64 gigabytes, I think 52 of them are now system data.

• 57:41Speaker 11

  Oh no.

• 57:41Speaker 02

That I can't take off the phone.

• 57:44Speaker 02

And so my phone really can't like memory swap at all.

• 57:48Speaker 11

  Oh no.

• 57:48Speaker 02

There's no storage left, no matter what I do. And so it's the kind of thing where like, the keyboard never actually works. Because there's no RAM left to do the assistive type thing. So, but, so what you have to do is you have to open messages, open the keyboard, lock the phone, unlock the phone, which clears the RAM. And then you can type your texts.

• 58:08Speaker 11

  Oh my God, that's awful.

• 58:09Speaker 02

Uh, yeah, I live in hell.

• 58:12Speaker 11

All right, you should trade that in.

• 58:14Speaker 02

Yeah, no, no, I'm not going to trade it in. I mean, they would give me $0.

• 58:18Andrew Manganelli?

  They would recycle my forehead.

• 58:20Speaker 11

Right, we'll take this off your hands.

• 58:22Speaker 02

Yeah, Allison, this has been an absolute pleasure.

• 58:25Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, where can everyone find you?

• 58:26Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 58:26Speaker 11

You can find me at theverge.com. You can find me at AllisonJoe1 on threads and Instagram.

• 58:33Speaker 02

  Perfect.

• 58:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Link in the description.

• 58:34Speaker 11

  Yeah, thanks.

• 58:34Speaker 02

  Thanks, Allison.

• 58:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Thanks so much for joining.

• 58:35Speaker 11

  Thank you.

• 58:41Andrew Manganelli?

Speed? Are you bringing it back?

• 58:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 58:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Cool.

• 58:49Speaker 12

Am I, should I be doing, should I be doing something?

• 58:53Speaker 12

I don't do any podcasts. I don't know if that's a part of the show.

• 58:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Nope, it's not.

• 58:58Speaker 02

We're leaving that in. That's in the podcast. What's up? Welcome back. We've found another victim. Not just a victim, a professional victim.

• 59:05Speaker 12

I was not warned about this.

• 59:07Speaker 02

  Yeah, please introduce yourself.

• 59:08Speaker 12

Uh, yeah, so my name is Brett. I go by Brett Tech on the internet. I do mostly short form stuff. Uh, I started in like the smart home 3D printing tinkering space. I realized I just like to explain nerdy stuff to the internet. Count grew. Uh, now I just cover everything tech, including iPhones, laptops, whatever I think is cool.

• 59:26Andrew Manganelli?

That's awesome. We haven't talked to many short form specific people because we are very long form, especially at the podcast.

• 59:32Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 59:32Andrew Manganelli?

We're about as long form as you can get. Um, what do you, how'd you get into doing specifically short form stuff?

• 59:39Speaker 12

Craziest, I mean, I feel like everybody has a different content creator, uh, story. Mine's no different. Um, super funny. So I've always tinkered with smart home stuff. That's my main hobby. And I made just the craziest smart home automation that I loved. It was I like reverse engineered the Bluetooth protocol in my coffee maker. Hooked it up to, hooked it up to a pressure sensor in my bed. So every morning when I get out of bed, fresh cup of coffee. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

• 1:00:03Speaker 02

  That is the coolest.

• 1:00:04Speaker 12

Yeah, sorry. It was the coolest thing. It still is. And I wanted to share it to some of my buddies on Discord. Uh, and I, I wasn't, I didn't know where I could upload the file because it was too big for Discord. So I was like,

• 1:00:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Discord's annoying with that.

• 1:00:15Speaker 12

It is. And I was like, what's the social media platform? I take the least seriously and will never post anything on TikTok, of course. So I posted on TikTok almost as like a video hosting service, made an account that night. Um, shared the link to my buddies on Discord, went to bed, woke up, three million views. And then literally, that was what, uh, four years ago. And since then, it's almost been a conversation with the audience. Cause I was like, I posted a video, there's comments, oh, how do you set that up? What smart home setups do you have? Blah, blah, blah. And that just turned into a full-time job and I'm now a short form creator. I tried it on YouTube too, but it's hard.

• 1:00:49Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. No, that's awesome. And do you now post on all different forms of, uh, so like shorts, reels?

• 1:00:55Speaker 12

I definitely, definitely was a TikTok come up, um, but now really focused, especially with like the, the band when that was lingering, everything really focused on diversifying. I try long form, but I truly, even as a creator, it's like working a different job. It's no different than like going from being a content creator to like a tile setter. That it's like the way you script, the way you plan, where you attack it. They're like, they're two totally separate things, even though it looks.

• 1:01:21Andrew Manganelli?

We feel that way in reverse.

• 1:01:22Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:01:23Speaker 12

It's like, so to me, short forms, like I, I, I usually post three or four videos a day. I just riff quick all off the top, but short form, I gotta sit down, I gotta write a script, I gotta revise it, I gotta edit it, I gotta tell a story. It's just different, right?

• 1:01:35Speaker 02

Now, it's been really funny for us, like when we go to make a short, it's almost like an entirely isolated production pipeline. Like we have different gear, we write the scripts. It's, it's so funny.

• 1:01:46Andrew Manganelli?

We're terrible at it. We'll have like one pop off and be like, oh, cool. That was awesome. And this one's definitely going to bang. And then it's like, very low view count and we're like, we have no idea.

• 1:01:56Speaker 12

The one thing I have a few long form videos I made, I do like the control you get short form. There's like, you gotta disconnect what you think is good and what you know is good from the actual performance and just, or else you get caught in this loop of things you can't control. And it's so, yeah, it's really post it, forget about it, move on to the next one and try not to be overly.

• 1:02:15Andrew Manganelli?

That's what's fun about online creation though, is like you kind of have, you know, we talk about this all the time when people start with us, especially if they're from legacy media is like, you get to make something, see it through, post it, see your feedback, and then you're on to the next thing, usually within like a week, which is not normal. Yeah. Um, okay. So cool. You're here covering the Apple event.

• 1:02:33Speaker 12

  I am.

• 1:02:34Andrew Manganelli?

Any thoughts specifically, cut, I mean, we're straight out of the event now.

• 1:02:38Speaker 12

Yeah, I was pretty stoked on it. Uh, one of the things, I mean, a lot of the things we saw from rumors with the air coming in. One of the things that really surprises me moving forward is how, how much Apple's diversifying their set of SKUs. By bringing in the air, the 16E. Uh, it's interesting to see them go in that direction. So one of my favorite things about the Apple lineup to date has been how easy it is to recommend devices within it. I've, I, the one thing of this, I find it curious how they're really expanding things out and maybe breaking that simplification for the better. Like, it could be for the better, but it could also be for the worse. Um, but overall, really impressed. Um, I thought some of the smaller features, uh, that didn't probably get a lot of love or a bigger feat, bigger deal than most a lot of people think.

• 1:03:23Speaker 12

The, uh, satellite connectivity on the Watch Ultra.

• 1:03:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:26Speaker 12

That's one of those things that I think 99% of people don't see it, but like for me personally, I, my main hobby is kite surfing. You go three, four kilometers off the ocean, um, no cell service, no tower, you don't have your phone with you. That's like a true lifeline that could really change the game for some people. Um, yeah, great event is my first one.

• 1:03:46Speaker 02

Wait, wait, wait. No, no, we gotta talk.

• 1:03:47Speaker 12

  Yeah, sorry.

• 1:03:49Speaker 02

  Hold on, hold on.

• 1:03:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Just drop that.

• 1:03:50Speaker 02

Okay, first kite surfing, like windsurfing, but without a fixed mast. Yeah, but your feet are attached to the board.

• 1:03:59Speaker 12

There, there's a few, the, the wind sports fear is very largely confusing.

• 1:04:04Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:04:04Speaker 12

Um, but kite surfing in its simplest form is you have a kite, 20 meter lines. It is a, literally looks like a kite flying above you.

• 1:04:11Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:04:12Speaker 12

Uh, and you could either wear a wakeboard style board where you're doing tricks and stuff. You take it off, you're strapped in, or you could ride a surfboard or you're traditionally like going into waves.

• 1:04:21Speaker 02

  Okay, so.

• 1:04:24Speaker 02

My mind is blown. So I grew up sailing.

• 1:04:26Speaker 12

  Yeah.

• 1:04:26Speaker 02

Wait, wait, wait, viewers might not know this. Grew up sailing. I've been, uh, three miles offshore in a, in a 16 foot sailboat. And that was a like hell no experience for me, like an absolutely not, why am I here? This is not enough mass to support me this far away from civilization. You're doing this with a piece of fabric. And a plank. I mean, a glorified, you know.

• 1:04:49Speaker 12

No, that's what it comes down to.

• 1:04:50Speaker 02

Piece of fabric and plank Pro Max. But like, yeah. So do you, you would trust, you have enough faith in the Apple Satellite stuff to be like, oh, if something were to go wrong, I don't need like a real radio.

• 1:05:03Speaker 12

Yeah. And to service the kites, the kiteboarding community, it's real very safety focused. The being three kilometers offshore is an edge case. Like usually we're playing it safe, but there is the time you're doing it downwinder. Or when you're three kilometers offshore out of your control. Cause the thing about wind sports is the wind goes the other way and you can't go straight into the wind. You're sometimes caught out. And I don't think it's so much of a, I'm gonna do that because I have the watch. But just having that as a safety option there. And like, I think with, with things like that, I don't think anybody is leaning on it as a crutch and going into this crazy stupid thing. But having it just, having it be there for that one, two, three percent of the times.

• 1:05:40Speaker 02

And it seems like that's exactly what Apple is going for with the, the watch safety features. It's like.

• 1:05:45Andrew Manganelli?

  With all their safety features.

• 1:05:47Speaker 12

  Really, really good example.

• 1:05:48Speaker 02

Yeah. It's like, don't, don't rely on this to like, don't, yeah, like if you really need safety equipment, buy safety equipment.

• 1:05:54Speaker 12

  Yeah.

• 1:05:55Speaker 02

But if you don't have it.

• 1:05:57Andrew Manganelli?

Here's something you're using all the time that could potentially be, you know? And the upgrades for satellites this year was we've had satellite SOS, right? And now, now we have though, like location and location sharing and messaging.

• 1:06:09Speaker 12

Yeah, it's just a little bit more.

• 1:06:10Andrew Manganelli?

That's always a nice thing to have. Just be like, hey, I'm going kite surfing. Yeah. Like here, just so you know. Yeah.

• 1:06:16Speaker 12

  Yeah.

• 1:06:17Speaker 02

You said this was your first event?

• 1:06:19Speaker 12

This is my first iPhone event. So I've done, I've done two WWDCs. Um, I've always been big on the software side. I'm good at explaining things that you can't see. Um, but this is my first iPhone event and it's been super mega ultra cool.

• 1:06:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Sweet. And you're a short.

• 1:06:34Speaker 02

  Pro Max.

• 1:06:34Speaker 12

Ultra, Ultra Pro Max, AirPods 3, cool.

• 1:06:37Andrew Manganelli?

So you're a short form creator. How many, have you posted any content since the episode, since it ended?

• 1:06:43Speaker 12

  I've posted 25 videos.

• 1:06:45Andrew Manganelli?

You posted 25? I was, I was gonna be surprised at three. Hold on.

• 1:06:49Speaker 12

  I, I've.

• 1:06:50Speaker 02

We've been working on one for an hour and a half.

• 1:06:53Speaker 12

The, the, I've learned the kind of the recipe to covering live events like this. Cause I found my first Dub Dub was my first live event.

• 1:07:01Speaker 02

  I'm so sorry. Go Birds!

• 1:07:06Speaker 12

Yeah, I was, I was just so overwhelmed. So I've kind of had to build a system for it. And really all it is, is I, I have two phones recording at all times of the keynote. Anytime there's something good to clip, clip it, post it real time, get in front of it. Uh, and then after I do summaries, so here's everything you need to know about the Apple event in one minute. Here's everything you need to know about the new iPhones in one minute. Here's everything you know about the new AirPods in one minute. Digestible, easy, quick.

• 1:07:29Andrew Manganelli?

So you, you said 25 are like 20 of those clips from the event and like five are your recaps afterwards and like hand on?

• 1:07:36Speaker 12

And then there's some like in the margins, which are more like, okay, as soon as you get onto the floor, uh, just film the colors of the iPhone, what iPhone color you want. Well, there's not a lot of substance to it. It's just being the first piece of content.

• 1:07:48Andrew Manganelli?

Colors of iPhones, they pop online.

• 1:07:51Speaker 12

That's what somebody told me. I was like, that's so surface level.

• 1:07:53Andrew Manganelli?

  It is. It's annoying.

• 1:07:57Andrew Manganelli?

Sometimes you gotta know the couple of things that do it, whether they're, especially because you're someone who dives in really deep. Posting a couple of colors probably feels like against.

• 1:08:06Speaker 02

What phone do you film all this on?

• 1:08:08Speaker 12

Uh, whatever phone I'm carrying. I, uh, yeah, I'm very, my content's very scrappy by nature. So the actual production outside of audio, which is, I learned is the one important one. The actual quality of my video, whether it's shaking or

• 1:08:24Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:08:24Speaker 12

front camera, back camera, whatever I could do to get it out. So usually I carry the 16 Pro. Yeah. That's what I film on. If I'm carrying a 15, today I had a 15 that, cause I, my other 16 was dead. So yeah, I really don't put much thought into it.

• 1:08:37Speaker 02

So when you're shooting short form, is thermal, are therm, wow, I'm just gonna start that whole sentence over. That was a miserable.

• 1:08:44Speaker 12

  I'm keeping all this.

• 1:08:45Speaker 02

When you're shooting short form stuff. You say you're keeping that?

• 1:08:48Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, of course he's keeping it.

• 1:08:49Speaker 02

When you're shooting short form stuff, are the phones thermal something you're worrying about? Because that's something, that's a conversation we've had amongst our studio and with other people here quite a bit. Actually-

• 1:08:59Andrew Manganelli?

Well, because they showed the vapor chamber and we're trying to figure out like what the best for that is. Outside of all the gaming they keep showing, we're trying to think-

• 1:09:05Speaker 02

Well, that's what we kept talking, and then I totally forgot, this is the second time I've said this on the pod, that we wanted that Canon C70 to be an iPhone and we didn't trust it to not overheat during the shoot.

• 1:09:15Speaker 12

I only ever run into it at events like this where I'm-

• 1:09:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Filming the whole-

• 1:09:18Speaker 12

Not only constantly filming, but also, I usually can handle the constant filming, but the problem is editing, flipping over to Instagram, TikTok, posting it as posting in the background while you're filming. Um, I am pretty bullish on the vapor chamber because that, hopefully that's just the magic solution.

• 1:09:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:35Speaker 12

But outside of events like this where filming, posting, uploading, editing, kind of all in tandem, that's the only time where I feel like I reached that limit. But I've done, I do like some of my live streams and stuff on the phone and it's, it's never been an issue just for capturing footage.

• 1:09:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Damn, cool.

• 1:09:51Speaker 02

Do you're, are you wearing Bitcoin socks or direct to consumer socks?

• 1:09:54Speaker 12

Direct to consumer socks. I used to, funny enough, I used to work in the like agency and marketing space.

• 1:09:59Speaker 02

  Okay, cool.

• 1:10:00Speaker 12

So I'm, that's, I think where some of my creator success comes from is I know how to communicate messages to people. Uh, and that's a newsletter we ran.

• 1:10:09Speaker 02

As someone who seems to be doing short form content right, what would you say to people who are trying to become tech short form creators? What's the one thing that you wish someone had told you before you got it, got it cooking? Even though you just said that your very first TikTok had 30 million views.

• 1:10:23Speaker 12

I mean, to that, to that point though, you gotta like, don't, don't just review a phone, don't just make a video to show this cool desk. Make something you want to tell your friends about. You gotta be really excited about it, especially on short form, YouTube as well. People's BS detector on social is so alarmingly good where if you just want to be a tech creator, so you're gonna film a review about your laptop and how much RAM it has? Not a chance. I don't care how good you are, what camera you have, you are gonna get 10 views. Show if you really like your mouse because it helped you- Rank up in Apex and it's this very specific setting that you love and you want to dial that in and tell people about it.

• 1:11:03Speaker 12

That's what's going to work, something you're genuinely excited about and don't worry about quality, don't worry about intros, hooks, nothing. Just talk about what you're stoked on and then everything else will fill in, but that's the only thing that matters.

• 1:11:15Andrew Manganelli?

Exactly what Marquez did. He didn't see a video for the HP laptop remote that was like plugged into the side of it and that's the first video he made.

• 1:11:23Speaker 12

Yeah, and it's like, again, it's cool. It's a cool thing, but most people like when you think tech creator, you're like, oh, I've got a hard drive specs, processor, Intel, AMD, blah, blah, blah. No, like that's A, that stuff is out there being done 10,000 times better than anybody entering in could do. You're not going to compete with it and B, you'll just be seen right through. Um, so you gotta lean on the stuff you care about.

• 1:11:43Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, I have a question. Is it about automations? Cause I wanted to ask something about.

• 1:11:47Speaker 03

  It's about browsers.

• 1:11:49Andrew Manganelli?

Browsers. Oh, okay. No, this is a great question.

• 1:11:51Speaker 03

Okay, we're trying to convince Marquez to leave his browser Arc that he's been using for a while because it just got bought by private equity, all this whole thing.

• 1:11:59Speaker 12

  Yep.

• 1:12:00Speaker 03

What browser do you recommend? What do you use?

• 1:12:02Andrew Manganelli?

If you had to pitch Mark has a browser.

• 1:12:03Speaker 03

If you had to pitch Mark has on a browser.

• 1:12:05Speaker 12

See, this is something I feel like I should care deeply about, but I just use anytime I'm working where something on Safari and can benefit from something native Apple, I'll jump in Safari. And then I use Chrome just because it's really good at triaging all my different like workspace accounts. Safari for like raw performance on Mac, anytime that I need performance and like cross-device continuity, Chrome. I wish I had like some answer.

• 1:12:29Andrew Manganelli?

No, no, that's fine. I think that's what most of the answers are going to be.

• 1:12:31Speaker 12

Yeah, like I wish there was like some niche opera game, but I just, yeah, unfortunately no hot takes on the browser.

• 1:12:38Andrew Manganelli?

No, no worries. Um, I want to ask one more question. You said you do a lot of automation, other than the coolest automation ever of making yourself a cup of coffee. What's one other, one you're super proud of? Maybe it didn't get a ton of views, but you're like, man, this I thought was really the coolest thing I ever did.

• 1:12:54Speaker 02

  I have a follow-up question, actually.

• 1:12:56Speaker 12

Honestly, like, there's the cool ones that are like shock value that you never use. But it's the, I think, if anybody is interested in smart home and automation, the biggest thing that's kind of dropped in that world are millimeter wave radar sensors that can actually not just detect whether or not you're in a room, but where exactly you are in a room. It basically makes like a mini-map that you could trigger automations off of. So like, I've got a little workshop-studio thing, just having it so when I step up to my desk, the standing desk goes down, so I can sit there, all the lights turn on and enters like a work mode. When I go to my workbench, the workbench light turns on. Doing like spatial automations like that, and nothing crazy, just like making the lights are sorted. Make sure, like, when you hop into bed, the doors lock, that type of stuff. That's really the night.

• 1:13:39Speaker 02

What's his brain of this whole thing?

• 1:13:41Speaker 12

Uh, we're about to go down a very deep rabbit hole, so I'll keep it very surface level. In the home automation space specifically, there's two kind of, there's two kind of crews. There's the bleeding-edge crew, which is a platform called Home Assistant. Totally open source, everything's as custom as it possibly can be. That's where if you really want to push the limits, build some crazy stuff, you go there. Um, in the smart home and home automation world specifically, I'm a big proponent of, because it's something that's ingrained in your life, it's better for it just to work and be functional rather than you be pushing the limit. It is the classic Apple versus like Android argument in that regard, and I use Apple HomeKit. Um, it's a really good brain for it, you could use Siri shortcuts to do really in-depth automations. And my partner, who couldn't care less about that stuff,

• 1:14:25Speaker 12

she could open her iPhone, go to the Home app that she's never set up, view the cameras, turn off the lights, do all this stuff without this me having to like debrief her over like 10 lessons.

• 1:14:35Speaker 02

That, that's really helpful. Brett, before we send you off back into the world to do your actual job.

• 1:14:41Speaker 12

  This is my actual job.

• 1:14:42Speaker 02

He could have posted like eight or nine different videos in the time of being on this. As a home automation guy, there's a new thread modem, or there's a new modem that has the thread protocol. Are we not excited about this new modem?

• 1:14:54Speaker 12

We, we are, so there's a few things to be excited about with the new modem, but with threads specifically. Thread is already integrated in most people's smart homes through their HomePods or other hub devices. Thread's very common. The reason it is exciting is because it's an easier entry point for people to get into more advanced smart home automations without needing to buy all of these hub devices that'll bridge you there. So unless, I mean, I don't know, maybe there's gonna be, I like to think that they might be able to use that Thread radio for other sorts of communication, for things that aren't necessarily smart home, like interacting with, maybe that's what interacts with the new AirTag that comes out in two years and brings a bunch of functionality. But really, it's not like we're getting anything new, it's just bringing more accessibility

• 1:15:38Speaker 12

to people that might want to get into smart homes.

• 1:15:40Speaker 02

That's such a good point. I've been so curious why Apple is so stoked on announcing that they make a modem now.

• 1:15:46Speaker 12

  It's cool, but it's-

• 1:15:47Speaker 02

I mean, it is cool, but I would-

• 1:15:48Speaker 12

  It's just a flex.

• 1:15:49Speaker 02

Also, it's like, even amongst our office of like nerdy, techie people, I think at least half of our office does not know that modem is an abbreviation, let alone know that what a modem is or what it does or why they should care. And so the fact that they're putting it in like a flagship event, I'm still just like, who? I guess it's for the door. Andrew, what is modem short for? I have no idea.

• 1:16:11Speaker 12

I was just gonna say, I don't think anyone knows what a modem is short for.

• 1:16:13Speaker 02

It's literally been a trivia question on the podcast. Yeah, and how many people got it right? Not, apparently not. It's short for modulator, demodulator.

• 1:16:22Speaker 12

  Hmm, interesting.

• 1:16:25Speaker 02

Do you really care? Even the modem guy is like, oh, you know, like, anyway. That's my rant. I don't know.

• 1:16:34Speaker 12

  Good rant.

• 1:16:35Speaker 02

I do like, I do like the idea that they're adding this Thread's capability so that they can have more flexibility in the future for like wireless stuff.

• 1:16:43Speaker 12

  Yeah, that's my assumption, but-

• 1:16:45Speaker 02

I have one more home question for you.

• 1:16:47Speaker 12

  Yeah.

• 1:16:48Speaker 02

Which is that for the past few years, I've been seeing lots of unexpected companies like Comcast put out all of these research papers into using Wi-Fi to create these mini map sort of things that you're talking about, like doing person location detection. I am not technical enough to understand these papers.

• 1:17:07Speaker 12

Yeah, if what you're talking about is how you could basically use wifi to see through walls, is that the TLDR what you're talking about?

• 1:17:14Speaker 02

What I've been reading is that Comcast has these, and a few other companies have been filing patents about using the existing router you have in your house to know exactly where you are standing in a room.

• 1:17:24Speaker 12

Yeah, so there, another very deep rabbit hole. So there's two, there's two things they could be talking about there. One is just pinging the device based on the signal strength. So you're carrying your phone, if you're, if the modem's in the bedroom, router's in the bedroom, and it's a really strong signal, you know, in the bedroom. There's this other really crazy, I don't know much about it, I know a few people who do, where it basically uses the wifi signal, kind of like a radar, where, and it could see through walls, and you could actually map people and objects in rooms. So there's DIY projects, so you take an old router, take it apart, and use it, almost looks like a thermal camera when you're looking around. And it's, it's not like a two-way signal, but when it blasts

• 1:18:07Speaker 12

the wifi signal out, it's such a strong wavelength, that it can detect like, kind of the density that it's going into, and you could like, effectively map out someone's home.

• 1:18:17Speaker 02

Brett, this has just been fantastic.

• 1:18:18Speaker 12

Yeah, it was fun. Thanks for yanking me.

• 1:18:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Thanks for coming, yeah.

• 1:18:23Speaker 02

Thanks Brett for saying we should talk to you. Boy, was he right. Brett, the gift that keeps on giving.

• 1:18:27Andrew Manganelli?

I'm pretty sure Adam probably subscribed to every one of your platforms. In the middle of that, I'm very excited to see it.

• 1:18:33Speaker 02

Before we send you off into the wilderness of Cupertino, where can people find you, so they can learn more about these really interesting things that you've been talking about?

• 1:18:40Speaker 12

Brett.tech on TikTok, TikTok and Instagram, I got an underscore after there, I'm working on it, but, tough battle to fight, but Brett.tech underscore on Instagram.

• 1:18:51Speaker 02

Cool. Brett, thank you so much. If you're ever in New Jersey, you know who to call.

• 1:18:58Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, sit down and grab the mic, and if you want to jump on for a minute.

• 1:19:01Speaker 13

Hi, so what are we doing?

• 1:19:02Speaker 02

Dude, you're looking at it. We're doing, we're doing waveform man on the street, asking people what the...

• 1:19:07Andrew Manganelli?

You have to share the microphone, we'll figure it out. No, no, don't be sorry. That's Alice's fault.

• 1:19:15Speaker 13

We watch you all the time, this is iconic.

• 1:19:17Speaker 02

Nice to meet you guys. Welcome to the show. For those just tuning in, we have found three more fun guests to join us.

• 1:19:25Andrew Manganelli?

What are each of your, what are each of your names?

• 1:19:27Speaker 14

Uh, my name is Adi. Uh, I'm, I'm, we're all from here, so I was gonna say I'm from here, but we're all from here.

• 1:19:32Speaker 13

Yeah, I'm Manon, just recently graduated from UC Berkeley.

• 1:19:35Andrew Manganelli?

Awesome, congrats. And you wanna move the mic over so?

• 1:19:38Speaker 13

  A lot closer to you.

• 1:19:39Speaker 14

  Yep.

• 1:19:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Eshawn? Eshawn?

• 1:19:41Speaker 14

  Yeah.

• 1:19:41Andrew Manganelli?

Awesome. Dude, it's great to meet all of you. Thanks for stopping in. Um, this is something we're doing a little different 'cause Marquez and David and Brandon are inside with events. We didn't get passes, so we figured we'd grab some people, journalists or people wandering around and see what they thought of the event. Um, so yeah, you said you live around here. You, you guys watched the event though, right?

• 1:20:00Speaker 14

Yeah, we were in, we were in the, we were in the visitor center. They, they played on a little TV.

• 1:20:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, really?

• 1:20:04Speaker 14

That plays Apple TV promos, not on the big screen.

• 1:20:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, okay.

• 1:20:06Speaker 14

  Yeah.

• 1:20:07Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, that's pretty cool. Yeah, just put the mic, like whoever's, no, no, it's totally fine. Whenever you're talking, put it next to you and that'd be great.

• 1:20:13Speaker 02

Okay, so you guys are all from the area. Do you watch these events every year?

• 1:20:18Speaker 14

Uh, generally, yeah, and sometimes I see my house from the sky cam.

• 1:20:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 1:20:22Speaker 14

  Yeah, not kidding.

• 1:20:23Andrew Manganelli?

  That's really cool.

• 1:20:24Speaker 14

Yeah, I see a local boba joint across the street I walk through sometimes. It's fun.

• 1:20:27Speaker 02

How do you feel like this year's event compared to previous September events?

• 1:20:31Speaker 14

Uh, do you have any opinions? I have some opinions. I don't wanna-

• 1:20:33Speaker 13

Yeah, I mean, I feel like on my end, it felt like, you know, sort of minor improvements. Obviously, I think it's been very incremental over the past few years. Um, and I think, I mean, I'm interested in the 17, uh, just because I have a current as a 12. And so I was looking to upgrade and you're, you know, I'm hitting up the five-year limit. I wanted that bigger battery.

• 1:20:52Speaker 14

  Little mini.

• 1:20:53Speaker 13

You know, bigger battery, better storage. I'm very excited about the 256.

• 1:20:57Andrew Manganelli?

I think that they like, did they even, did they say it or was it just like on the screen?

• 1:21:01Speaker 14

No, I think they said it.

• 1:21:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:21:02Speaker 14

  They might have verbalized it.

• 1:21:03Andrew Manganelli?

Pixel needs to do that. I'm so mad that I had to upgrade to 256 on a Pixel.

• 1:21:08Speaker 13

I'm very excited. I mean, I'm at 64 and I'm running out of storage weekly, weekly. I'm like, I have to clear up my phone every week and I'm like, I don't have time. I'm a busy, you know.

• 1:21:18Speaker 02

Yeah, and then also, does, does your keyboard mess up all the time because of your phone storage?

• 1:21:22Speaker 13

  Yeah.

• 1:21:23Speaker 02

  Yes, dude. Yes, finally.

• 1:21:24Andrew Manganelli?

This is a support group now for iPhones.

• 1:21:27Speaker 02

This is now us, Justin. So now that you know, we both need a new phone. The people have made that very clear for me at least. What is the, what are you gonna upgrade to?

• 1:21:37Speaker 13

Yes, I mean, I think for me, I, we were just diving deep into the specs differences between the 17 and the 17 Pro. It seems like the differences aren't even that big, especially it's such a game changer with ProMotion on the 17, 256 base, you know, all of these other features and Apple Intelligence support. But for me, I think one of the patterns I noticed is with Apple Intelligence, we saw between the 15 and the 16, the 15 immediately got phased out. So the base iPhone model versus the Pro. So I'm concerned that in the future, if that happens to the base 17, there's a new LLM or, you know, different types of models that are running. Um, how does that affect the performance as well as the RAM, right?

• 1:22:20Speaker 13

Base iPhone 17 has 8 gigs of RAM versus 12 on the Pro. So how does that affect, um, you know, the actual performance and, and the ability for it to be, you know, um, supported?

• 1:22:32Speaker 02

That's a really great point, assuming we do ever get Apple Intelligence.

• 1:22:34Andrew Manganelli?

Like the official, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:22:38Speaker 13

  Right.

• 1:22:39Speaker 02

No, I feel you. I, watching the event, I, for months, I've been like, the iPhone Air is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. And then they got to the thing at the event and I was like, I need one.

• 1:22:49Speaker 13

It's pretty cool. It looks very cool.

• 1:22:52Speaker 14

Phones are nice. Slim phones are nice.

• 1:22:55Speaker 13

You want to, I mean, you've held it.

• 1:22:56Speaker 02

  I've held it.

• 1:22:57Speaker 14

Yeah, it's nice. I mean, battery's not great on this one already, but, uh, yeah, it's, it's 4,400 milliamp hours and a big bright screen. It's less bright than the 6 actually. I had the 6.

• 1:23:08Andrew Manganelli?

Do you find yourself, for audio listeners, what phone is it?

• 1:23:10Speaker 14

Uh, it's the Galaxy Fold 7.

• 1:23:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:23:12Speaker 14

Uh, I've had every Fold since the 3, just kind of stacking upgrades. I used to work at a, actually at the Costco right across from Google headquarters.

• 1:23:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:23:20Speaker 14

And he did as well. Yeah, my friend over there.

• 1:23:23Speaker 02

  That's awesome.

• 1:23:24Speaker 14

Selling phones, uh, so yeah, I kind of stacked it. Uh, and I, actually, I'm, I'm controversial. I like the slightly thinner cover screen. I like the TV remote kind of, because I'm such a one-handed guy. And then if, for me, if I have two hands, I open it up. But I get, I get why this is the, the more, slightly wider is more appealing to people.

• 1:23:41Andrew Manganelli?

  For sure, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:23:42Speaker 02

No, I totally get that too.

• 1:23:43Andrew Manganelli?

No, I thought the iPhone Air was super interesting by like stacking everything in the And basically leaving the entire body for just battery, which is still probably gonna be

• 1:23:52Speaker 14

  I think it's

• 1:23:52Andrew Manganelli?

  All day

• 1:23:53Speaker 14

I think the rumor was 2800 milliamp hours?

• 1:23:55Andrew Manganelli?

It's always that fun thing where we never know what it is until someone has to rip it over. They just don't have like

• 1:23:59Speaker 14

It's also missing a GPU core, even though it has a pro chip. Yeah, it has five GPU cores.

• 1:24:03Andrew Manganelli?

You guys watched this better than we did and you watched it in a public place?

• 1:24:06Speaker 14

  They looked at the website.

• 1:24:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, okay.

• 1:24:08Speaker 13

Yeah, we were deep diving and we're always nerding out on these, on these features.

• 1:24:12Speaker 02

So you guys, you guys, what did you study at Berkeley?

• 1:24:15Speaker 13

Uh, computer science and data science.

• 1:24:17Speaker 02

And you all, are you all in tech? Is that sort of where we're?

• 1:24:20Speaker 14

Uh, I'm business management economics. Well, I want to do product marketing mainly for tech because, you know, growing up Okay. Near Apple Park, which used to be HP when I was growing up.

• 1:24:28Speaker 02

  Oh, wow.

• 1:24:29Speaker 14

It's kind of, I don't know if I grew to love tech or I grew in tech culture, so I grew to love it, kind of, not by choice, but I like tech.

• 1:24:37Speaker 13

  Yeah.

• 1:24:37Speaker 14

  What?

• 1:24:38Speaker 13

  And then, oh, yeah.

• 1:24:40Speaker 15

I'm in the, I'm still in school. I'm spending some time in, in film, so

• 1:24:47Speaker 13

  Awesome.

• 1:24:48Speaker 15

I have the 16 Pro and I'm enjoying it because it's meant for kind of like a film student kind of focus with

• 1:24:56Speaker 14

  I know.

• 1:24:56Speaker 15

The, the, the Pro Reds and all those extra features.

• 1:25:01Andrew Manganelli?

I bet the iPhone, the new iPhone video is better than the cameras I was shooting with when I went to film school. Like, I would not be surprised.

• 1:25:08Speaker 14

  Yeah.

• 1:25:08Speaker 02

There's a, there's like, the only thing that really draws me to the Pro is like, I have this collection of really old dinky cameras that I like because they look really nice, but it's not like pro quality footage. And I keep telling myself I need to invest in like, in a, like a real camera that I can use like for like professional work.

• 1:25:24Speaker 13

  Professional.

• 1:25:25Speaker 02

And I'm like, what if I just got an iPhone Pro?

• 1:25:27Andrew Manganelli?

  It'd be fine.

• 1:25:29Speaker 14

You work with, you work with Marquez.

• 1:25:32Andrew Manganelli?

  This guy?

• 1:25:34Speaker 14

You work with Marquez and all the camera people, like, you have these.

• 1:25:39Speaker 02

When I do need a camera, I will usually just steal one from the office.

• 1:25:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Like, yeah.

• 1:25:43Speaker 02

But it would be nice eventually to own my own, but until then, until then, yeah, I will be just taking.

• 1:25:49Andrew Manganelli?

  We're not.

• 1:25:49Speaker 02

Oh, my God. Well, so I, I was curious if you guys were in tech because when you brought up promotion.

• 1:25:54Speaker 14

  Yeah.

• 1:25:54Speaker 02

I was a little surprised and I'm sort of curious if you think The average, the average person who's like not buying an iPhone Pro is just buying like a base iPhone. Will they even notice 120 hertz?

• 1:26:05Speaker 14

Uh, my mom has a flip seven and she turns off and, and a flip five and the flip four and the flip three. And I've made her turn off high refresh rate because she doesn't notice and it just makes the battery a bit worse.

• 1:26:14Speaker 02

  She doesn't know, okay.

• 1:26:15Speaker 14

Yeah, and but I mean, like she needs the largest font size, so like very, very nice, but like, yeah, that's what I mean, that's why she got the seven because even the slightly larger cover screen helps with the slightly bigger font. Like it actually makes it usable for her so she can like read her messages on the front now versus five is a little bit of struggle.

• 1:26:31Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I think like all of us are really happy that we can finally say the iPhone base doesn't have 60 hertz anymore. But I do think to a certain point is like, um, most people won't even notice.

• 1:26:43Speaker 14

Yeah, I was thinking back to the heritage of high refresh rate Android phones and I think one of the first ones was like the Razr phone.

• 1:26:49Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:26:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Probably.

• 1:26:50Speaker 14

Yeah, they bought, yeah, the Razr.

• 1:26:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Razr one.

• 1:26:51Speaker 14

Yeah, and because they bought next bit, remember next bit?

• 1:26:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, they bought next bit.

• 1:26:55Speaker 14

Like 16 gigs of storage on the phone.

• 1:26:57Andrew Manganelli?

This was probably pre-Ellis and he didn't really care about Android phones, but yeah, and it was terrible. And then they actually made some reasonable upgrades in like the Razr phone two, but

• 1:27:05Speaker 14

  Yeah.

• 1:27:05Andrew Manganelli?

And then it still just wasn't, yeah.

• 1:27:08Speaker 14

That was just kind of, that got, seeing the 120 hertz on the baseball kind of reminded me of like, like how long it's been and like, it's nice to see that.

• 1:27:14Andrew Manganelli?

  For sure.

• 1:27:18Andrew Manganelli?

Next guest, Michael. Okay, you did watch the event, right?

• 1:27:20Speaker 16

  Yes.

• 1:27:21Andrew Manganelli?

And you thought it was awesome, you said?

• 1:27:22Speaker 16

  It was pretty cool.

• 1:27:22Andrew Manganelli?

Cool. What was your favorite part of it?

• 1:27:24Speaker 16

Um, I think I liked the AirPods and the iPhone 17.

• 1:27:28Andrew Manganelli?

What did you like most about the AirPods?

• 1:27:29Speaker 16

I do like the, um, the workout feature and the blood pressure.

• 1:27:32Andrew Manganelli?

The blood pressure or the, the heart rate monitor and yeah, yeah.

• 1:27:35Speaker 16

  Yeah.

• 1:27:36Andrew Manganelli?

Cool. Do you, you have an Apple Watch though, so are you interested in using that possibly without your Apple Watch or?

• 1:27:42Speaker 16

  Possibly.

• 1:27:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, cool.

• 1:27:43Speaker 16

Um, but I'm, I love wearing my watch. Um, it just, it just feels like.

• 1:27:50Speaker 16

  It's part of me.

• 1:27:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:27:51Speaker 16

And so, you know, I sleep with it and everything, so.

• 1:27:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Cool.

• 1:27:56Speaker 02

I've been hearing that a lot, that like the, it feels a little redundant to have heart rate in the, in the AirPods.

• 1:28:02Andrew Manganelli?

I could see it for people if they're not wearing, like, I feel like, you know, now with AirPods and with rings, we're finding ways that you can get the benefits of a watch. And if you're a watch person, you can wear a real watch.

• 1:28:13Speaker 02

I, I've been really wanting to go back to wearing a real watch instead of my cereal box on my wrist. I've got really small wrists, so I think it looks, I think it looks really weird on me, but, um. So I was really stoked because I, I, the rings did not really seem like me, so I, I guess I'm kind of excited. Oh, Brandon's calling me.

• 1:28:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, is he?

• 1:28:31Speaker 02

Yeah. Brandon, uh, you know who Brandon is. Well, I'm gonna hang up on him now.

• 1:28:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:38Speaker 02

  We're live.

• 1:28:39Andrew Manganelli?

All right, we'll come back. No, no, no. Um, all right, what was your favorite thing? Or actually, before you tell me about your favorite thing about the new iPhone, what phone are you using right now?

• 1:28:47Speaker 16

I'm using the iPhone 12 right now.

• 1:28:49Andrew Manganelli?

  12, okay. You're the second 12 user.

• 1:28:52Speaker 16

I haven't upgraded yet, but, um, I want to upgrade. I just don't have the money yet.

• 1:28:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Sure.

• 1:28:59Speaker 02

  Same.

• 1:29:01Andrew Manganelli?

There's, I mean, everything's expensive, which is definitely tough. Um, but I think it's cool when people wait a while because then the upgrade feels so much better.

• 1:29:10Speaker 16

My, my dad has the iPhone 16.

• 1:29:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:29:13Speaker 16

That, um, a few weeks ago, he just got it and he loves it so much.

• 1:29:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:29:19Speaker 16

  So.

• 1:29:20Andrew Manganelli?

He just got it a couple of weeks ago?

• 1:29:21Speaker 16

  Yeah.

• 1:29:21Andrew Manganelli?

So he just missed a price drop.

• 1:29:23Speaker 16

I mean, he didn't know when the 17s coming out, so, but.

• 1:29:29Andrew Manganelli?

  That's fair.

• 1:29:29Speaker 16

  It's, it's fine.

• 1:29:31Speaker 02

I think I just found a new Marquez tweet, like ever, like a yearly Marquez tweet. In, in August, he just sees a tweet, "Do not buy an iPhone for the next six weeks."

• 1:29:39Andrew Manganelli?

  You have time.

• 1:29:40Speaker 02

You have six weeks and then it will be a hundred dollars cheaper.

• 1:29:43Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, that's super fair. So what do you think you're gonna upgrade to? Which model?

• 1:29:48Speaker 16

I would, if I had to choose to buy an iPhone, I would probably pick the Pro.

• 1:29:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:29:54Speaker 16

The 17 Pro, because I feel like it's pretty good with like cameras and all that stuff. I do like the center stage.

• 1:30:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, on the, yeah.

• 1:30:07Speaker 16

And I feel like, because I'm, I love taking photos, um, and.

• 1:30:14Speaker 16

With the ProRes and all that stuff, I think it would be pretty great.

• 1:30:19Andrew Manganelli?

Pretty helpful, yeah. Do you like the new, or what do you think of the design language and the orange color?

• 1:30:25Speaker 16

I actually like the orange color. It's pretty unique.

• 1:30:28Andrew Manganelli?

I love it. I think both of us are team orange right now.

• 1:30:31Speaker 02

Who's anti-orange? Oh, actually, I like most of them.

• 1:30:33Andrew Manganelli?

Like, I think everyone we've talked to so far has not liked the orange either.

• 1:30:37Speaker 02

  Lame.

• 1:30:38Andrew Manganelli?

But yeah, and what about the, like, you like the plateau and everything? It's a pretty big, it's a pretty big visual change, even though it's really not that different, but...

• 1:30:47Speaker 16

It's pretty cool looking. I like the design on it and the way it looks different from a different iPhone.

• 1:30:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Sure.

• 1:30:55Speaker 02

I think I like, the more I think about it, I like the plateau because it adds symmetry in a way that makes it feel more like a console. Or like, like some sort of like, uh...

• 1:31:05Andrew Manganelli?

Like a pixel, you mean? It kind of feels like, uh, do you remember Project Ara? The, like, fake design phone where it was, like, supposed to be modular and everything was in squares? Like, now that it has the, like, you know, the whole squircle or rectangle, like, across the top, and it has the, like, matte finish around where, like, it feels segmented and, like, evenly. The only thing is, is I don't think it's actually gonna be laid down flat and not wobble, because there's still the camera bumps protruding out of the protrusion.

• 1:31:36Speaker 02

No, and the air is gonna be even more heinous, I think. I don't know, we'll have to see.

• 1:31:40Andrew Manganelli?

Wobbly. All phones are now, I guess, but...

• 1:31:43Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:31:43Andrew Manganelli?

Not my Pixel. Have you always been an iPhone user?

• 1:31:47Speaker 16

I've been always an iPhone user. I started off on iPhone 5C.

• 1:31:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:31:53Speaker 02

  What color?

• 1:31:53Speaker 16

  Green.

• 1:31:54Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 1:31:55Andrew Manganelli?

Good color choices. I like it.

• 1:31:58Speaker 16

  Yeah.

• 1:31:58Andrew Manganelli?

And then, uh, oh yeah. Since you've always been an iPhone user, though, if you had to pick an Android phone to use right now, what would you pick?

• 1:32:08Speaker 16

Maybe the Pixel 10. Pixel 10? Yeah, or the Pixel Fold. Pixel Fold? Yeah. Okay.

• 1:32:15Speaker 02

I think that's the hardest part about this event for me is I know I also have a 12.

• 1:32:19Speaker 16

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:32:20Speaker 02

I feel your pain, brother. Um, but I don't, like, I want, I need to upgrade. My phone is, is dying. It's cannibalizing itself.

• 1:32:27Speaker 16

  Yeah.

• 1:32:28Speaker 02

But, um, I really want a folding iPhone.

• 1:32:30Speaker 16

  Yes.

• 1:32:31Speaker 02

I just want to wait. And I, I clearly can't. And I don't know, I don't know how to broach this with my, uh, with my bank account.

• 1:32:51Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot. Assign them work directly or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

• 1:34:54Speaker 02

And we're back on the street.

• 1:34:57Andrew Manganelli?

With another guest. Can you tell us your name?

• 1:34:59Speaker 02

  My name is Jack.

• 1:35:00Andrew Manganelli?

Jack, great to meet you, Jack. Did you watch the event?

• 1:35:04Speaker 02

  I have not.

• 1:35:05Andrew Manganelli?

You have not watched the event? Awesome, and I also heard you have no idea who we are.

• 1:35:08Speaker 02

  Uh, right.

• 1:35:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Perfect.

• 1:35:10Speaker 02

That is so fun. I'm KBHD.

• 1:35:12Andrew Manganelli?

You know I'm KBHD. Okay, perfect. So you know our, uh...

• 1:35:16Speaker 02

That's why, I don't know who we are either, but I'm KBHD. Yeah.

• 1:35:22Speaker 02

This is awesome. First, tennis jersey. Yes. Alcaraz or Sinner? Alcaraz. Bad answer, but we're cool.

• 1:35:30Andrew Manganelli?

  I like his answer.

• 1:35:30Speaker 02

But you, you look like Sinner. That's why I like him. Really? That's actually...

• 1:35:34Andrew Manganelli?

Is that a compliment or not?

• 1:35:36Speaker 02

No, it's a compliment. He's handsome, he's really handsome. No, I, I like Sinner because he makes weird trick shots look really, really easy. And things that would be like disrespectful in most contexts just look so natural when he does them. Yeah, that's effortless. Exactly, exactly, and I can't get enough of it. But, enough about tennis.

• 1:35:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Are you sure?

• 1:35:59Speaker 02

Well, yeah, we, we can't talk about tennis. This is a real podcast. All right, what phone do you have right now? iPhone, um, 15. Okay, just a regular 15? Uh, 15 Pro.

• 1:36:10Andrew Manganelli?

15 Pro. You did not watch the event. Are you thinking though of upgrading this year or anytime soon?

• 1:36:16Speaker 02

  Yeah, definitely.

• 1:36:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah?

• 1:36:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:36:17Andrew Manganelli?

Have you heard any rumors or anything about what? Sorry, there's a guy with a Vision Pro in front of me right now.

• 1:36:23Speaker 02

I know, I've seen him too.

• 1:36:24Andrew Manganelli?

And that really distracted me. I was not expecting that.

• 1:36:26Speaker 02

  I saw it too.

• 1:36:28Andrew Manganelli?

Have you, no, so, have you heard any like rumors or stuff about the new one that came out? You missed the event.

• 1:36:34Speaker 02

Wait, no, this is actually the program today. What would the new iPhone 17 Pro have to have to convince you to upgrade?

• 1:36:41Andrew Manganelli?

  It's a great...

• 1:36:41Speaker 02

Better camera. Okay, what does better mean?

• 1:36:45Speaker 18

  Like higher resolution.

• 1:36:47Speaker 02

Okay, it does not have that, so.

• 1:36:48Andrew Manganelli?

No, yeah, and you would be looking at the Pro, right?

• 1:36:51Speaker 18

  Yeah, Pro.

• 1:36:51Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. Yeah, I don't think there's that much.

• 1:36:54Speaker 02

Yeah, what if it was like crazy thin?

• 1:36:57Andrew Manganelli?

That's not, that's the Pro though.

• 1:36:58Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, we're talking about the Pro.

• 1:36:59Andrew Manganelli?

Here's a question, do you take a lot of video?

• 1:37:01Speaker 18

  Yes.

• 1:37:02Andrew Manganelli?

Does your phone ever overheat when you're taking video?

• 1:37:04Speaker 18

  Yes, the Pro one does.

• 1:37:05Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, would, would a new cooling feature that potentially, we haven't tested this yet, helps with overheating in video mode, would that convince you to upgrade?

• 1:37:15Speaker 18

  Yeah.

• 1:37:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:37:16Speaker 18

  For sure.

• 1:37:17Andrew Manganelli?

You might be pretty excited when you watch the event later.

• 1:37:19Speaker 02

  I think that's.

• 1:37:20Andrew Manganelli?

What about, do you like the color orange?

• 1:37:24Speaker 18

Uh, yeah, because I, I graduated from University of Illinois.

• 1:37:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:37:29Speaker 02

  Oh!

• 1:37:31Andrew Manganelli?

That's why Eric pulled you over.

• 1:37:32Speaker 02

Eric, can you hear that? University of Illinois!

• 1:37:35Speaker 18

  Okay, there we go.

• 1:37:36Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:37:37Speaker 18

Urbana. Okay, nice, yeah, engineering? Yes. Nice.

• 1:37:40Speaker 02

  Sweet.

• 1:37:41Speaker 18

I'm from Illinois, so a lot of my friends are from here.

• 1:37:44Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:37:44Andrew Manganelli?

So now I need to, can I show you a photo of the, the orange iPhone?

• 1:37:49Speaker 02

You're gonna ruin this moment for him? I need to look up all the new.

• 1:37:52Andrew Manganelli?

No, that's. Are you okay seeing the new iPhone for the first time on a podcast you've never heard of? And telling us if you like it or not?

• 1:37:59Speaker 18

  Yeah.

• 1:38:00Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, cool. Oh, uh, Mark, I took a picture of it, right?

• 1:38:03Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's on the story.

• 1:38:04Andrew Manganelli?

So they, they did a, have you seen what the new design changes are like at all?

• 1:38:07Speaker 18

  Well, I've seen some rumors.

• 1:38:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:38:09Speaker 18

Like, uh, some pictures of the Pro.

• 1:38:11Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:38:12Speaker 18

They have like, uh, like the wallet.

• 1:38:15Andrew Manganelli?

It looks like the wallet's attached to it almost already, and that they're like, they're calling it the Plateau, is the big like camera bump. So this is the new orange of the Pro. Do you like that or no?

• 1:38:26Speaker 18

Yeah, I like it, kinda like, uh, Hermes.

• 1:38:28Andrew Manganelli?

Hermes, they do a lot of Hermes. I, I thought it was really funny how much they're doing Hermes stuff still, but they refuse to do leather anymore, which is kind of like their whole shtick. Um, but, cool, so do you, what do you think of the new design language and everything? Now that you're seeing, cause like, we're never sure if rumors are, are actually gonna happen, but this is what it is.

• 1:38:48Speaker 18

Yeah, I think like they, they widened the, the, the top edge, right? So it will not like, if you sit on the phone, like, it will not be like, uh.

• 1:38:57Andrew Manganelli?

Like wobbling, mm-hmm. I still think, cause it still has camera bumps on top of that, so there might be a little less, but I think there'll still be a little bit. It seems like they're. One of the things they mentioned in the events before the air ends this is that they're packing a lot of stuff into that bump and trying to use that space to increase like battery size and like add other internals into there, so.

• 1:39:18Speaker 18

  Right.

• 1:39:18Speaker 02

What would it take to get you to switch to Android?

• 1:39:21Speaker 18

  I will never switch.

• 1:39:22Andrew Manganelli?

Never switch to Android? If you had to, is there an Android phone you would ever consider? If you're forced to?

• 1:39:29Speaker 18

  Yeah, Huawei.

• 1:39:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Huawei? Which Huawei?

• 1:39:32Speaker 18

  I...

• 1:39:33Andrew Manganelli?

You don't know any of them? That's okay.

• 1:39:35Speaker 18

I heard they have like, um, like, uh, good cameras.

• 1:39:39Andrew Manganelli?

There, a lot of them are really awesome. The just most annoying thing is, is like not being able to get Play Store. And, but like, I think a lot of people in our world would be using Huawei phones if we could use them.

• 1:39:50Speaker 02

Yeah, I mean, I haven't, I haven't used the current generation of Huawei phones. I've only used like a few behind. And it's funny that you bring up the camera because the cameras do feel really nice and they have lots of really interesting features, but they also have like such a look to them, like they feel very like sharp, but not, not over saturated like a lot of sometimes like Android. I don't know. It's funny that, that the Huawei cameras are what you brought up.

• 1:40:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:40:17Speaker 02

  I don't know.

• 1:40:17Speaker 18

Everybody in China is using Huawei.

• 1:40:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:40:20Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:40:21Speaker 18

Yeah, because they're nasty. Friggin' awesome.

• 1:40:23Andrew Manganelli?

Cool. Are you gonna go watch the event afterwards? Or are you just like read about stuff, watch YouTube videos on it?

• 1:40:29Speaker 18

  Yeah, I will watch it.

• 1:40:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Watch the whole event?

• 1:40:31Speaker 18

  Yeah.

• 1:40:31Andrew Manganelli?

  It's cool.

• 1:40:32Speaker 02

I feel like it's, have you seen any ones in the past? And like have you, have you watched the events in previous years?

• 1:40:37Speaker 18

Yeah, I used to watch, uh, live.

• 1:40:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Excuse me, sorry.

• 1:40:42Speaker 02

This one felt very slow to me.

• 1:40:44Andrew Manganelli?

This was a very incremental upgrade year, just despite some like design language changes, which visually looks really cool.

• 1:40:49Speaker 18

It has been several years and they, they like they do the incremental improvements.

• 1:40:54Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, nothing felt super wow-y, but a lot of like things where if you're, you said 15 you're on right now, right?

• 1:41:02Speaker 18

  Yeah.

• 1:41:04Andrew Manganelli?

Sixteen, two generations, like, there probably will be some nice, it probably won't be a huge difference. We've talked to multiple people who are still using 12, so those people upgrading will probably feel it a lot more, but.

• 1:41:14Speaker 18

Yeah, but it doesn't make sense to upgrade every year.

• 1:41:17Andrew Manganelli?

  No, I totally agree.

• 1:41:21Speaker 02

All right, welcome back. We're back with Kavi because I, when he said he studies aviation, thought he meant engineering, and I didn't realize he's in flight school. And many of you have been asking me to do an audio-only episode, like about audio stuff for years. It's not gonna happen, but we are about to do the plane segment. Because this is Ellis's other passion.

• 1:41:38Andrew Manganelli?

I'm checking out. I have no idea what's going on.

• 1:41:41Speaker 02

Kavi, tell me more about what it's like to be in flight school.

• 1:41:45Speaker 04

Uh, well, I was just talking to him about like how we use iPads.

• 1:41:48Andrew Manganelli?

  I was gonna ask that.

• 1:41:49Speaker 04

Yes, we use an app called ForeFlight for navigation, like performance computations.

• 1:41:55Speaker 02

Is it iPad minis or like full-blown iPads?

• 1:41:58Speaker 04

So I use the 11-inch Pro for the brightness. I think a lot of people would want, like, as it sounds, a mini Pro just for the brightness.

• 1:42:06Speaker 02

  Totally.

• 1:42:07Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, all of us would love that, and that's interesting to see one other person outside the tech, you know, trying to cram everything into everything, wanting it. But that does make sense, because they promoted the mini for like flight stuff pretty hard a couple of years, right? Okay, cool.

• 1:42:21Speaker 02

So do you have to hotspot it, or are you downloading all the maps locally and the GPS works all up there?

• 1:42:27Speaker 04

So we get the cellular iPads, but we don't connect like a cellular plan to it. It's just because those ones have the GPS or something in it. Uh, and then we download all the, um, I guess, materials we need before we fly. And then in the cockpit, it like just, you know, shows us where we are, and we go based off of that.

• 1:42:45Andrew Manganelli?

I guess that makes sense, because like even on my watch, like my Garmin watch, you can just download offline maps and it does a pretty good job at telling where you are. Obviously, flying is a lot different than that, but...

• 1:42:54Speaker 02

When I finally upgraded from my free open-source flight simulator to Flight, Microsoft Flight Simulator, the newest one, and they switched from having like a Logitech thing in the cockpit to the fake iPad on the side with fake ForeFlight, I was like, it took me, I'm still getting used to it.

• 1:43:13Speaker 04

You can connect actual ForeFlight to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

• 1:43:15Speaker 02

I, so I, I've done that, but I use the...

• 1:43:18Andrew Manganelli?

  So lost.

• 1:43:19Speaker 02

I use the open-source... Fourflight clone. I'm trying to remember what it's called. Open Maps? Don't look at me. Andrew, what's it called? I have it on my computer, which is not here. But I use it because I'm really bad at remembering airport codes and runway numbers and all the things that I need to actually do a flight plan. I also don't fly real planes.

• 1:43:42Speaker 02

I don't know. Fun fact. What are you flying right now?

• 1:43:46Speaker 04

  Cessna 172.

• 1:43:48Speaker 02

  Classic?

• 1:43:48Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:43:49Speaker 02

Sweet. Do you, are you planning on becoming an airline pilot? Is that the ultimate goal?

• 1:43:53Speaker 04

Either airline or corporate. Recently I've been swayed over more to the corporate side of aviation. There are a lot of benefits to that. Like, there's one guy I just recently met. He's a pilot for Netflix. He's a senior at San Jose State, actually. And, you know, his work-life balance sounds really good.

• 1:44:10Speaker 02

Yeah, I've heard it's a good gig. And then also you get to fly really exciting airplanes. Actually, I don't know. I would assume Netflix owns really large airplanes.

• 1:44:19Speaker 04

Corporate jets in general just fly higher and go faster.

• 1:44:21Speaker 02

Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And you need more exciting ratings that like sound way cooler than jet. I guess a jetliner rating is also pretty cool. Like, being responsible like that. I don't know. Way cool.

• 1:44:36Speaker 02

Yo, you're not gonna believe this. We were just like hanging out here doing a podcast, all sorts of fun stuff. And some guy just appeared and I feel like, I feel like, oh, oh, Marquez! Not at all. Pull up a, pull up a chair.

• 1:44:53Speaker 01

Yeah, where do I sit, right here?

• 1:44:53Speaker 02

Literally anywhere. Can you say your name and what you do for a living? Oh. Oh, yeah, I can. Would you like me to? Hi. Okay, we'll just, we'll just share this, yeah. This is a little impromptu. Yes. Um, so we've been out here all day. Impromptu three. Impromptu three. David's here now. That's right. Brandon's over there, too. I don't know if you even know who Brandon is. Marquez, how's your day been inside Apple Park?

• 1:45:16Speaker 01

Really good. Uh, I have like 10 minutes before my next briefing. Because you know what they do? They just stack our meetings all together.

• 1:45:21Speaker 02

Let's like, let's, let's speed run through this. Obviously, the first thing we gotta talk about is live translation on the new AirPods. How is it?

• 1:45:30Speaker 01

Haven't tried it. Haven't tried it.

• 1:45:31Speaker 02

  Cause it doesn't exist.

• 1:45:31Speaker 01

  Literally about to try it.

• 1:45:33Speaker 02

  Oh, really?

• 1:45:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:45:34Speaker 02

  Damn.

• 1:45:34Speaker 01

  Alright, well.

• 1:45:35Andrew Manganelli?

  In the next demo?

• 1:45:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:45:36Speaker 02

  Are you off?

• 1:45:36Speaker 01

But I'm not allowed to talk about it, so.

• 1:45:37Speaker 02

  Are you serious?

• 1:45:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:45:38Speaker 02

Really? But you can tell me about it.

• 1:45:39Speaker 01

I can tell, at embargo, I can tell you. Which means it doesn't work.

• 1:45:42Speaker 02

We'll talk about it in a few weeks.

• 1:45:43Andrew Manganelli?

We don't talk about anything at the studio until embargo hits.

• 1:45:45Speaker 02

  That is true.

• 1:45:45Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 1:45:46Speaker 02

  Next question.

• 1:45:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:45:47Speaker 02

Orange, in person, what's the vibe?

• 1:45:49Speaker 01

Horrible. Uh, it's bright, it's bright. Horrible? I thought it, I thought it looked, um... I don't know, man. In person, cause I don't wanna show you pictures.

• 1:45:56Speaker 02

  I think it's worse.

• 1:45:56Speaker 01

I wanna tell you, it's saturated, it's a little bit more than the like Halloween dull orange of a pumpkin that we might have expected. And I'm just more bummed that there's no neutral dark. Like, it's blue or silver. I want a black iPhone. The dark blue is okay, though. It's okay. Yeah. But, no black? Yeah, so... No space gray, no, no space black, nothing? Isn't that crazy? Cause that's like the most popular color of phone is black.

• 1:46:20Speaker 02

Yeah, but the pros are colorful now. You got, we gotta get with the times.

• 1:46:23Andrew Manganelli?

Pros are allowed to have fun.

• 1:46:24Speaker 01

  Michael Fisher's happy.

• 1:46:25Speaker 02

Yeah, pros are allowed to have fun. We don't just have to suffer in our studios.

• 1:46:28Speaker 01

Pros just wanna have fun, as they say. Yeah.

• 1:46:30Speaker 02

That's gonna be the title of, of, of the, I don't know.

• 1:46:33Speaker 01

Either that, or orange is the new black.

• 1:46:35Speaker 02

  I think that's... Oh!

• 1:46:36Speaker 01

Yeah. That's what I keep hearing.

• 1:46:37Andrew Manganelli?

  That's pretty fire.

• 1:46:38Speaker 02

  This is crazy!

• 1:46:39Andrew Manganelli?

The guy who doesn't watch any TV or movies just out-referenced all of us, and we've been talking about it all day.

• 1:46:43Speaker 02

It's not just that, it's a, it's, it's, it's this dude just like, comes out and instantly out-SEOs us. Okay, Marquez, we gotta stay on topic, though, cause you gotta be somewhere to be.

• 1:46:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:46:51Speaker 02

  The air.

• 1:46:52Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:46:52Speaker 02

We gotta talk about the air. You put it in your hand.

• 1:46:53Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:46:54Speaker 02

You held it. How does it feel, you guys?

• 1:46:55Speaker 01

I loved it. Yeah. Similar to the S25 Edge. You see it in person, you see the, like, the videos and everything, and it looks, eh, kinda cool, wow, they made a thin one. And then you hold it, and it's really thin and light, and you're like, that's, that's very impressive.

• 1:47:08Andrew Manganelli?

That's what we all thought about the S25 Edge, and then put it away, and no one's touched it since.

• 1:47:12Speaker 01

It's true. And, you know what, I'm making a short about this, and I'm gonna say it in the video, it is a worse phone than the other phones.

• 1:47:17Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:47:17Speaker 01

Okay, it is going to have only one camera, it's going to have, it has to have worse battery life. There's no way it doesn't have way worse battery life. Of course, yeah. Um, eSIM only, a couple other things are a little bit lesser, so...

• 1:47:29David Imel?

ProMotion, it's a Pro chip with one less GPU core.

• 1:47:31Speaker 01

That was so wild to me that they put the Pro chip in the thin phone.

• 1:47:35David Imel?

Yeah, I'm not sure why they did that.

• 1:47:36Speaker 01

That's crazy. I'm stoked. They said it was more efficient than the regular chip. Yeah. Which is wild.

• 1:47:41David Imel?

  Okay.

• 1:47:41Speaker 01

So maybe that's why, I guess.

• 1:47:42David Imel?

Yeah, and then ProMotion is more efficient than 60 Hz.

• 1:47:45Speaker 01

  They kinda needed it, right?

• 1:47:46David Imel?

Yeah. So that makes sense, but I was just, yeah, you hold it and you're just like, wow.

• 1:47:51Speaker 01

It, I mean, the soft touch on the back and the way it's like curved around the sides. It's, it feels really good. Totally. It really does feel good. I, it is one of those things where I'm like, is this like a gimmick or, you know?

• 1:48:02David Imel?

It is, just to be clear.

• 1:48:03Speaker 01

  I mean, it is.

• 1:48:04David Imel?

Well, okay, so I'm gonna make, this is a whole video idea I've been working on and it's maybe a separate video, maybe it's the air review.

• 1:48:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:48:10David Imel?

But you either believe that this is just a one-off, we tried something new and made a thin phone thing, or you believe genuinely in your heart that this is how thin that phones are all going to be in a couple of years.

• 1:48:23Speaker 01

Can I, can I hit you with a third option?

• 1:48:25Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, we've already talked about it.

• 1:48:26David Imel?

  It's the foldable.

• 1:48:26Andrew Manganelli?

  It's the folding.

• 1:48:27Speaker 01

It's one half of the fold.

• 1:48:29David Imel?

They needed to work on the internals of the foldable to be thinner, so that's why they made this phone. It's like they made the Z, they made the thinner Z Fold 7 like three months after they made the Edge.

• 1:48:38Speaker 01

  Yeah, this is true.

• 1:48:39David Imel?

I think that they just needed to get the internals thinner.

• 1:48:42Speaker 01

Yeah, totally fair. And they did say, they had some lines they snuck in about how like, this phone needs Apple silicon to do what it does. And that's why you have this N1 chip?

• 1:48:52David Imel?

  Yeah, N1.

• 1:48:52Speaker 01

C1X. And C1X built into N1, and then obviously A19. So there's all these little things that are like, oh, we finally can make a phone this thin, that doesn't suck.

• 1:49:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:49:01Speaker 01

And they said, they had a couple lines about a more dense battery, we'll see. There's just no way it's.

• 1:49:06David Imel?

I asked them about the battery and they said, it's not that it's like a more dense technology, it's just physically larger.

• 1:49:14Speaker 01

  I mean, yeah.

• 1:49:14David Imel?

Like they crammed more of the components into that bar.

• 1:49:17Andrew Manganelli?

All the components are basically, the chips, some speakers, all the camera, front and back facing camera are all in that camera bar.

• 1:49:23David Imel?

They just said like, it's the same like, it's the same battery technology, it's just a bigger physical battery.

• 1:49:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:49:29Andrew Manganelli?

We've gotta kinda wrap it up. Can I flip something on Ellis's head right here now? I have a trivia question for both of you that I am not going to be part of.

• 1:49:35Speaker 01

  Wow, okay.

• 1:49:36Andrew Manganelli?

I met someone really awesome before who does short form content. At 2:30, we asked him, since the event started, how many videos has he released?

• 1:49:43David Imel?

  Price is Right rules.

• 1:49:44Andrew Manganelli?

Price is Right rules, you both have a guess.

• 1:49:46Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 1:49:47Andrew Manganelli?

How many has he posted? Since the start of the event.

• 1:49:53Speaker 01

  My guess is 12.

• 1:49:54Andrew Manganelli?

  12.

• 1:49:55Speaker 01

I'm going over. I saw some people doing just reels of moments of the keynote. And I think with that, you could easily stack up 10 to 12. And then like products afterwards could be 10. So I'm gonna go with 20.

• 1:50:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Very close. 25.

• 1:50:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:50:12David Imel?

  25?

• 1:50:13Speaker 01

  I believe you.

• 1:50:13Andrew Manganelli?

He was super enthusiastic too. I can't wait till you guys see what his stuff is.

• 1:50:17David Imel?

  That's so crazy.

• 1:50:18Speaker 02

Because you have somewhere to be. We're gonna tape another podcast tomorrow, which is actually gonna come out before this.

• 1:50:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 1:50:24Speaker 02

In the Apple Podcast studio. I just want to say, this has been a breath of fresh air. It's so, so great to have you on this beautiful outdoor set. You too, David. This has just been fantastic. This has been Waveform on the Street, version one. You heard it here first.

• 1:50:40Speaker 01

  So glad I made it.

• 1:50:41Speaker 02

And we'll see you. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah.

• 1:50:45Speaker 01

  Guest number one?

• 1:50:46Speaker 02

  Guest number one.

• 1:50:47David Imel?

  Guest number one.

• 1:50:48Speaker 01

  Appreciate that, yes.

• 1:50:49Speaker 02

We will be back for our normal episode this Friday. Unless this won't come out on a Friday, so I can say that. And.

• 1:50:58Speaker 01

Yeah, see you in the next one.

• 1:51:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, sorry.

• 1:51:00Speaker 01

See you in the next regularly scheduled episode.

• 1:51:02Speaker 02

I'm gonna do it this time.

• 1:51:03Speaker 01

  Oh, I wanna.

• 1:51:19Speaker 02

  Who's your favorite?

• 1:51:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Say it. Say it.

• 1:51:24Speaker 01

  Hard cut.

• 1:51:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Mariah. It's definitely Mariah.

• 1:51:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Miles? Yes.

• 1:51:33Speaker 20
