This Could Be the Best Smartphone But…

In this episode, Marques, Andrew, and David start off talking about the newest Apple Pocket accessory that was released before getting into the OnePlus 15. After that, they talk about Marques getting interviewed by LeBron James, the new Spotify Wrapped weekly feature, and GTA 6 getting delayed (again). Then they wrap it all up with a game of HYPEathetically speaking. Enjoy! Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more. So, nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

  That's J-I-R-A dot com.

• 1:21David Imel?

One thing that is kind of cool about these is that they are using the 3D knitting technology that Apple literally invented. I think that's kind of interesting and cool.

• 1:28Speaker 01

Am I insane, or is every knit 3D?

• 1:31David Imel?

  Well, everything is 3D.

• 1:32Speaker 01

  If you're really 3D.

• 1:33David Imel?

3D world. But, I don't know. I want to touch it, I guess. It's not interesting. I don't want to buy it.

• 1:41Andrew Manganelli?

  It's not interesting.

• 1:42David Imel?

But I do want to touch it.

• 1:43Andrew Manganelli?

But someone, I'm not going to say any names, was into Slack this morning, asking if Apple had sent it.

• 1:48David Imel?

Yeah, I wanted to brush it.

• 1:50Speaker 01

I showed it on the podcast.

• 1:56Speaker 01

Yeah, what is up people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts, I'm Marquez.

• 2:02Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 2:02David Imel?

  And I'm Nintendo Switch 2.

• 2:03Speaker 01

And we're back. In this episode, we've got a $200 sock. You'll understand what that means in a second. Grand Theft Auto VI is delayed, E Ink Frame Impressions, a new Spotify Weekly wrapped, and we whipped together some main channel metrics for smartphone season. Because numbers are fun.

• 2:21Andrew Manganelli?

  They are.

• 2:22Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 2:22David Imel?

  Yeah. That's a lot of stuff. That's a, that's a wide variety.

• 2:26Speaker 01

Because it's Techvember. See, it doesn't roll off the top the same way.

• 2:30Andrew Manganelli?

But yeah. We can't call it Techvember when we were scrounging to talk about stuff this week.

• 2:35Speaker 01

Yeah, not as many new things are coming out. It's like, that's what September and October, Techtember and Techtober are mostly about. And then everything's on the shelf for the holiday season, which is basically starting now. Because people are buying things around Thanksgiving and Black Friday and Cyber Monday and all that.

• 2:50David Imel?

  Likes socks.

• 2:51Speaker 01

Likes socks. Is that the first thing we should talk about? Apple sock?

• 2:54David Imel?

I'm down. I feel like we already teed it up.

• 2:56Speaker 01

It's the news. It's the news of the, of the week.

• 2:59David Imel?

It actually is the news of the week.

• 3:01Andrew Manganelli?

Unfortunately, the news of the week.

• 3:02Speaker 01

Unfortunately, okay. So, so here's what happened. Apple released a new fashion collab product. We've seen many fashion collab products from tech companies before with the likes of, I don't know, Supreme and whatever, other fashion brands. This one being more popular overseas. It is essentially a, an iPhone case that is knit and looks like a sock, basically.

• 3:26David Imel?

Yeah, there's two of them. There's a long one and a short one.

• 3:30Speaker 01

Yes, and they start at $149 and $229?

• 3:37David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 3:39Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 3:39David Imel?

Yeah. So, the last time Apple did a fashion collab was Hermes in 2015.

• 3:45Speaker 01

So, it was quite a while. Is that really the last one?

• 3:46David Imel?

Yeah. Quite a while ago, which makes sense. So, this is the same guy that, the guy that designed the iPhone. What was it called? It's called the iPhone Pocket. Yeah. Not to be confused with the Game Boy Pocket. Which was awesome. Which is also awesome, but it's the same guy- Probably about the same price. Probably about the same price. Same guy that designed Steve Jobs' turtleneck. So, it seems that Apple is kinda going with like a heritage play here. And he's like, but yeah, you, you get two options. It's called iPhone Pocket because the whole idea of it was to have an additional pocket on you that you could carry your iPhone with. Yeah. And, you know, there's a crossbody one. Right. That is the bigger one. That's the $230 one. Yeah.

• 4:29David Imel?

And then there's one that is much shorter, that is made to be sort of like carried around your wrist and also tied to things, that kind of stuff. It's just so incredibly easy to dunk on this. I will say, there's one- Yes. There's one thing I like about these, the colors. The colors are dope. They're bright. Insane. They're saturated. They're good colors. They're confident, they're bold, because the iPhones, we all know, don't have bold saturated colors. Look at the, you, you see the iPhone in the blue thing? Yeah. It's like a dark blue, but then you have, you have real blue and real orange. I would argue that the orange is a bright saturated, bold color. It's the brightest and saturated and most bold they've done, but still compared to these threads, it's- Yeah, it's just that every single press photo- Mm-hmm. -of them with this bag, I just, it really looks like satire. Oh yeah.

• 5:14David Imel?

It does feel like satire. The yellow one looks like the Borat bathing suit. Yeah. And- I tweeted this and that was one of the highest. And maybe that's just fashion, I think like, I underst- look. The reason this feel- is, feels very easy to dunk on for us is because we're in Western media in Asian countries, these crossbody bags, these like smaller sling things are very, very, very popular. Yeah, that another one they launched earlier this year. Arguably, it's the reason they launched the crossbody strap for the iPhone Air. Yeah. Um, so there's that, it's just that, you know, this looks like something that your grandma could make on Etsy.

• 5:48Speaker 01

Every designer collab is easy to dunk on because they're all extremely expensive. Like the Arma- Arma- I don't know.

• 5:54David Imel?

  Hermes.

• 5:54Speaker 01

Hermes Apple Watch bands were 200 plus dollars.

• 5:57David Imel?

  Right.

• 5:58Speaker 01

Which is like, obviously, they're well made and they look really nice and I'm sure they're all fancy looking, but like,

• 6:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:05Speaker 01

  It's, it's a 200 dollar Apple Watch band. So.

• 6:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:09Speaker 01

Uh, anytime, and this, this goes way back, the Supreme collabs, the other collabs that tech companies do with fashion brands are just, if you're not in the target demographic, it seems insane.

• 6:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:20Speaker 01

And we are not in the target demographic, so it seems insane.

• 6:23Speaker 03

Also, those Apple Watch bands are way more than 200 dollars.

• 6:27Speaker 01

  The Hermes ones, how much?

• 6:28Speaker 03

350, 450. This metal one is a thousand dollars.

• 6:32Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 6:32David Imel?

  Nice.

• 6:32Speaker 01

There you go. Pay more than the watch.

• 6:34David Imel?

Yeah. So I mean, one thing that's kind of cool about these is that they are using the 3D knitting technology that Apple literally invented. So I think that's kind of interesting and cool.

• 6:45Speaker 01

Am I insane or is every knit 3D?

• 6:47David Imel?

  Well, everything is 3D.

• 6:49Speaker 01

Cause we live in a 3D world. But I don't know. I, I want to touch it, I guess. It's not interesting. I don't want to buy it.

• 6:58Speaker 03

It's not interesting, but someone, I'm not going to say any names, was into Slack this morning asking if Apple had sent it.

• 7:05Speaker 01

  Yeah, I wanted to brush.

• 7:07David Imel?

  I chewed on the podcast.

• 7:09Andrew Manganelli?

You know, it's surprising they didn't send this as a review unit. I feel like they've in the past not sent review units of things they didn't really have a lot of faith in.

• 7:19Speaker 01

Well, again, it's made for the Asian market. So it's like, clearly to us, this is ugly as heck.

• 7:25Andrew Manganelli?

They've sent some weird review unit things and they didn't send this. They also didn't send the, was it the 13 inch M1 touch bar?

• 7:34Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 7:34Andrew Manganelli?

Remember they didn't send that to us?

• 7:36Speaker 01

When we were dunking on that because they like kept the touch bar.

• 7:39Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, well, it was just a weird.

• 7:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:41Andrew Manganelli?

Release and I, and they sent, they. Neglected to send it before we dunked on it, but we went out and bought one and I'm pretty sure the guy at the Apple store was like,

• 7:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:51Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, this says it's for, didn't you guys get one of these? I was like, nope. And they're like, oh, that's weird.

• 7:56Speaker 01

Yeah. No, I think this is just so firmly targeted towards Japan. Like they, they talk about Japan a lot.

• 8:02David Imel?

  Very firmly.

• 8:02Speaker 01

All of, they say it's crafted in Japan. It's obviously a Miyaki collab. Like this is, this is, they released the time zone dropped on like the Japan time zone. So it was like the middle of the night for us. So it's, it's not for us.

• 8:13David Imel?

I'm just gonna say it's firmly not for me.

• 8:16Speaker 01

But it is, it is really funny that we wake up and we see a new $230 sock to hold dry phone. And we're like, wow.

• 8:21David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:21Speaker 01

That's a new thing Apple did.

• 8:22David Imel?

Huh. Throwback to the iPod sock.

• 8:27Speaker 01

  That's actually what, yeah.

• 8:28David Imel?

Which costs like $30 or something.

• 8:30Speaker 01

  Was it?

• 8:30David Imel?

  It was much cheaper.

• 8:31Andrew Manganelli?

It was much cheaper. I threw that in Slack and Tim thought I had photoshopped it to try and trick him. And I was like, no, man, these were real. And there was, there was one for the iPod and the iPod Nano.

• 8:40David Imel?

I had one for my iPod.

• 8:42Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 8:43David Imel?

  They were really dumb.

• 8:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:44David Imel?

Um, yeah, I don't know, man.

• 8:46Andrew Manganelli?

I'm a little confused at this because I do, I am one of those people that has like a little man purse thing.

• 8:52Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:53Andrew Manganelli?

And I have like a little side strap bag that I put my phone in sometimes when I'm going out, whatever. But it has like a zipper and like a flap to close over the top to secure it. This is just like, yeah, like the phone is just like exposed.

• 9:05David Imel?

Well, it's not really, it goes in the slit and then it sinks to the bottom.

• 9:09Andrew Manganelli?

  But then like,

• 9:10Speaker 01

But it is kind of just like prime.

• 9:11David Imel?

  It's like a pocket.

• 9:13Speaker 01

  Can hit things.

• 9:13David Imel?

It looks like a pocket because it's like a pocket. It's like open.

• 9:16Andrew Manganelli?

It looks like when you put a bunch of quarters in a sock to like beat someone up with. When do you do that?

• 9:22Speaker 01

You don't do that? Andrew does that all the time.

• 9:25David Imel?

  Yeah, man.

• 9:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Gotta get stuff done sometimes.

• 9:26David Imel?

I, the fashion people can have their moment and I'm happy for Japan.

• 9:32Speaker 01

I wonder what their next collab will be. Place your bets now because they'll, they'll be wrong for sure.

• 9:36David Imel?

10 years ago was the last one.

• 9:37Speaker 01

Yeah, we will be wrong about the next one.

• 9:38Andrew Manganelli?

Mariah called it the thneed from the Lorax. Do you remember that?

• 9:43Speaker 01

  No idea what that is.

• 9:43Andrew Manganelli?

Also, I, it's, so it's a piece, it's a garment from the Lorax, uh, Dr. Seuss book, which I then pulled up the Seuss fandom and it's a The need is a highly versatile object knitted from the foliage of a truffle tree. According to the Wonsler, it's a find something that all people need. It costs $3.99, approximately $30 adjusted for inflation, according to the Lorax book.

• 10:07Speaker 01

Lorax is very, they're on top of it. Speaking of very versatile things, like a pocket.

• 10:14David Imel?

  I'll take it.

• 10:15Speaker 01

The OnePlus 15 dropped finally this week. We were all seeing the designs and seeing all the specs and it's finally, finally, finally, finally fully official and out. And it's kind of a monster phone. It's a very interesting phone. Very unlike the usual like spec bump refresh that we see. This is like prime Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 time. When whoever wants to be first in that wave and come out with a new phone with a new chip, just drops a new phone. This one is the new chip, but also a new design and also a new screen and also a whole bunch of new specs and also new software and also this crazy build quality and also a way worse set of cameras. I was just about to say that. Yeah, so I can talk about any of this.

• 10:58Speaker 01

The review is up by the time you are listening to this podcast or watching us here. So if you want to check that out, full review is out there. But what do you guys think about this new phone? So this is a phone that is the Oppo by any other name, right? This is the Oppo, it's basically the Find X9 Pro.

• 11:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, minus the good cameras.

• 11:16David Imel?

  That color is so good.

• 11:17Speaker 01

And this is the sandstone one. And if you hold it, you will like it even more because it's like soft touch.

• 11:21Andrew Manganelli?

I was so disappointed that you were telling me the cameras were bad because looking at that camera and you holding it and walking around, I was like, oh my God, that thing is beautiful.

• 11:29Speaker 01

I had a moment where I was like, I loved using the rest of this phone so much. I was like, well, I do have the Hasselblad in my backpack. Maybe I just don't take pictures on my phone anymore. And I had like a week where I just didn't. That's right. That's how we do it. So it is, it is that good. So they dropped the Hasselblad, I'm just talking about the camera. They dropped the Hasselblad branding. Yeah. They dropped a lot of the Hasselblad. No more X-Pan mode. No more X-Pan mode, no more orange shutter button. They do still have that sound though, that like

• 11:54Andrew Manganelli?

  The leaf shutter.

• 11:54Speaker 01

Leaf shutter clunk sound. Oh, really? So they didn't totally wipe everything. Okay. But the sensors are all smaller, the apertures are all smaller. The photos are all worse, the videos are all worse, they're all noisier. The colors are duller, everything is worse about the cameras.

• 12:07Andrew Manganelli?

Is the shutter button still orange?

• 12:09Speaker 01

  No.

• 12:10Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I don't think it would look good on that.

• 12:12David Imel?

  The best part.

• 12:13Andrew Manganelli?

  This phone looks good already.

• 12:14Speaker 01

  It's the virtual shutter.

• 12:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, the virtual, okay.

• 12:16Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, the virtual shutter button, sorry.

• 12:18David Imel?

  It feels good.

• 12:19Speaker 04

Tell me there's still the Xpan mode, though.

• 12:22David Imel?

  There's not.

• 12:22Speaker 04

  No!

• 12:23David Imel?

My real Xpan photo is much more valuable.

• 12:26Speaker 01

Yeah. But the, all the other parts of this phone are A+. I'm not exaggerating, like, the specs and the performance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is paired with LPDDR5X Ultra Plus RAM.

• 12:40David Imel?

  What?

• 12:40Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm gonna fact check that.

• 12:41Speaker 01

Yeah, 16 gigs of, I've, I've memorized it so many times. LPDDR5X Ultra Plus RAM.

• 12:47David Imel?

Adding the word Ultra to RAM now?

• 12:48Speaker 01

  10,000 megabytes per second RAM.

• 12:49Andrew Manganelli?

  This is Ultra Plus.

• 12:50Speaker 01

Yeah, Ultra Plus, don't forget the plus, very important on the 16 gig, right? But it's very fast, this phone is incredibly quick, and there's also two new dedicated chips in it that make it, like, unusually quick. There's a 3200 Hz touch response, enabled by a touch response chip. And there's a dedicated Wi-Fi chip called the G2 Wi-Fi chip. And this phone loads webpages ridiculously fast, it's very responsive to the touch, it's just a, like a, just a really quick, solid, responsive phone, all the time, which is very encouraging.

• 13:20David Imel?

I was using Fisher's last night, and the first thing I noticed when I turned it on is the screen looked really freaking good.

• 13:25Speaker 01

Screen is nice, it is a little brighter, it is a, I think it's a slightly lower resolution than the OnePlus 13, it's 1272 pixels across instead of 1440.

• 13:36Andrew Manganelli?

Not to send this off the rails, but David, I'd like your thoughts on this, because this, Marques and I going over the, the specs and script for this, had some confusion about the resolution being 1.5K, he like, wrote it in the script, he called it 1.2K.

• 13:54Speaker 01

OnePlus refers to it as the world's first 165 Hz 1.5K display, and they say it over and over and over again, 1.5K, 1.5K, so I keep checking, wasn't that, the max resolution is like 2700 by 1272. So I'm like, why do you keep saying 1.5K? Because the last phone was 1440, that's closer to 1.5K, right? And then I Googled what 1.5K means, and it doesn't mean 1500 at anything, it just means somewhere between 1K and 2K. 1440 is 2K because it's referring to...

• 14:31Speaker 01

  Anyway.

• 14:32Andrew Manganelli?

  It's really confusing, no.

• 14:34David Imel?

The LG G3 had a 2K display and that was a big deal.

• 14:38Speaker 01

  Cause that was 1440.

• 14:38David Imel?

1440, it was the world's first 1440 smartphone.

• 14:41Speaker 01

Now, why would you call that 2K? If the resolution is 2560 by 1440? Thank you.

• 14:48David Imel?

Because the in-between of 2560 and 1440, the average is around 2K?

• 14:54Speaker 01

That would possibly be true, but I think what I realize is for higher resolutions, we refer to it by the horizontal resolution and for lower resolutions, we refer to it by the vertical. So on YouTube, when you see 240p, that's the vertical resolution. 480p is the vertical resolution. 720p is 1280 by 720, right?

• 15:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 15:13Speaker 01

Now, when you refer to the big resolutions, 4K, that's roughly 4,000 across.

• 15:18David Imel?

  3840 is across.

• 15:19Speaker 01

Exactly, or DCI P3, which people always like to talk about DCI as well.

• 15:23David Imel?

Well, P3 is the color, right?

• 15:24Speaker 01

  Sorry, DCI is 4096 across.

• 15:26David Imel?

  DCI 4K, yeah.

• 15:27Speaker 01

But 4K is roughly 4,000 across.

• 15:29David Imel?

  Roughly.

• 15:29Speaker 01

And 8K is roughly 8,000 across.

• 15:32David Imel?

  Right.

• 15:32Speaker 01

A lot of people are getting confused that 4K was 4 times 1080.

• 15:36David Imel?

  Right.

• 15:37Speaker 01

Which is also happens to be true, but 8K is 16 times 1080. So it's not referring to how many times 1080.

• 15:42David Imel?

  Was it 4 times 4K?

• 15:44Speaker 01

  It's 4 times 4K.

• 15:45David Imel?

  Oh, but that's 8.

• 15:46Speaker 01

But that's 8, exactly. But what if you take that divided by 3? What?

• 15:51Andrew Manganelli?

Someone driving is just gonna turn off the side of the road right now to not listen to this.

• 15:55Speaker 01

My point is, we have like the K's, which are the horizontal resolution big numbers. And we have the P's, which are the low resolution vertical numbers. And then for some reason in-between, we just abandon everything and we have 2K, which is 2560 by 1440. And we just call that 2K for I don't know what reason. And then we just adopt slightly less than 2K, which is 1,272 across is now 1.5K? Just cause it's less than 2K? How does that make any sense?

• 16:21Andrew Manganelli?

I just want, there was a solid like 10 minutes of Marquez and I with the scripts in front of us. And me being like.

• 16:28Andrew Manganelli?

You say 1.2K and you're holding up the phone and being like, it's 1.2K and me being like, this is the guide. It says 1.5K and him being like, but it's 1.2K. I'm not gonna lie. And we just, neither would budge until we both decided to start Googling.

• 16:41David Imel?

I'm trying to be clear about this. So like, the reason they say 1.5 is because the horizontal resolution of a vertical phone. So you're, you're saying, so in, in vertical aspect ratio.

• 16:51Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think we know the answer.

• 16:52Speaker 01

No, the, the answer is because it's less than 2K but higher than 1080. That's why it's 1.2.

• 16:58David Imel?

But why would they, why would they talk about that as a benefit?

• 17:01Speaker 01

Because it's 1.5K and 165 Hz at the same time, instead of having to pick high resolution or higher.

• 17:07Andrew Manganelli?

It's not the first 1.5K phone. That, that actually helped us move forward on this. Is there other 1.5K phones? It's definitely just marketing.

• 17:14David Imel?

It's just the first 1.5K 165 Hz phone.

• 17:17Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 17:18David Imel?

Well, I'm the first person named David who also is wearing a blue shirt and is in Carney, New Jersey right now.

• 17:25Speaker 01

  Yeah. So that's.

• 17:26Andrew Manganelli?

I would bet that's not even true.

• 17:29David Imel?

  Okay, okay, okay.

• 17:30Speaker 01

But yeah, anyway, so they, OnePlus, I'm sure in their presentation says 1.5K many times. There is no part of the screen that is 1,500 of anything. It is simply less than 2K. Which is why they say 1.5.

• 17:44David Imel?

I have a potential answer to your thing about horizontal versus vertical resolutions.

• 17:48Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 17:49David Imel?

Is it because we only used to have a horizontal video? And so when we look at something in a vertical format, we kind of just consider it horizontal video that's tilted 90 degrees?

• 18:01Speaker 01

I think this is, this is true before we got a bunch of vertical video. Like, like 10 years ago, when we got the first 8K TVs and 4K, everything was horizontal. Yeah. Just, it was just like a nice marketing number. Ooh, 4K. Ooh, 8K.

• 18:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:13Speaker 01

But 1080 is 1920 by 1080. So I would say 2K because that feels like 2,000 across, but that's not 2K.

• 18:21David Imel?

It's 1080. Why didn't we call it 1920? Why did we say 1080P?

• 18:25Speaker 01

I would have, I would have been the guy that called that 2K back in the day and technically would have been wrong.

• 18:29David Imel?

Well, then there's the whole thing with like HD. There's two definitions of HD.

• 18:33Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, I know about the Hill HD thing because I happen to use that word very often.

• 18:38David Imel?

  All right.

• 18:39Speaker 01

I, I think 1080 and above deserves to be called HD, but many circles say 720 is included in HD.

• 18:46David Imel?

  720, HD originally meant 720.

• 18:49Speaker 04

I thought 1920 was called full HD.

• 18:51Speaker 01

It did. So 720P was, was HD and then 1080P was FHD. And technically 2K, which is 1440P is QHD, which is quad HD. Because HD is 720 and it's quad 720.

• 19:06David Imel?

And then 4K is UHD, which is

• 19:09Speaker 01

  Ultra-high definition. 3840 because it's four times 1080.

• 19:13David Imel?

And then 8K is UHD Pro Max.

• 19:16Speaker 01

  It's a lot.

• 19:16David Imel?

The goodie, the goodie is high definition. Yeah.

• 19:19Speaker 01

All that to say, screen, pretty nice.

• 19:22David Imel?

  Yeah, I mean, hey.

• 19:24Speaker 04

What about the rest of the phone?

• 19:25Speaker 01

  Yeah. Uh, battery.

• 19:27David Imel?

  Battery?

• 19:27Speaker 01

  sickest phone I've used ever.

• 19:30David Imel?

  For battery?

• 19:31Speaker 01

7,300 milliamp hours. Silicon carbon, highest silicon content of any anode we've seen. Uh, and also it lasts longer than the, the, I mean, I didn't get to main this because my SIM card wasn't working. So I, I can't like fully like rest my laurels on this, but it was lasting longer than the 7,500 milliamp hour Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. This, because they kill background tasks and like, that's the whole thing.

• 19:52David Imel?

Does it not have bands? Is that why?

• 19:54Speaker 01

It just wouldn't let me do my AT&T SIM transfer. So I got a T-Mobile SIM like super late.

• 19:58David Imel?

  Oh.

• 19:59Speaker 01

Either way, incredible battery life and 100 watt charging outside of the US, 80 watt charging here and 50 watt wireless charging and bypass charging and charge limiting if you want. Like it's an awesome battery.

• 20:10David Imel?

Isn't there a thing where it reverse wireless charges at 25 watts?

• 20:12Speaker 01

You can do that too. I think it's

• 20:14Speaker 04

  22.5 watts.

• 20:15Speaker 01

That was the Xiaomi that did 22 and a half watts reverse. I don't know if this one does it too, but it does reverse if you want.

• 20:20David Imel?

  Got it.

• 20:21Speaker 01

Um, so awesome, awesome battery experience. And then it has this like crazy ceramic finish or nano arc something. I don't even know exactly what they're calling it. Like they did this crazy finish to the metal where it's basically ultra, ultra hard and scratch resistant. So you can

• 20:37David Imel?

  Pretty hard to me.

• 20:37Speaker 01

Yeah. You can, you can, you can drag a coin across the back of it and it leaves a nasty looking scratch. And then you just wipe it off because you've realized it scratched the metal of the coin off onto the back of the phone. It's it's super durable.

• 20:49Speaker 03

  Dang.

• 20:50Speaker 01

So I did a whole short just showing that in action.

• 20:52Speaker 03

  Okay, two questions.

• 20:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:54Speaker 03

One, does it have MagSafe slash PixelSnap slash P2?

• 20:58Speaker 01

That is probably the biggest missing feature. They do have cases with magnets in them, but it is not built into the phone.

• 21:04Speaker 03

Okay, second question. It's really scratch resistant, right? So does that mean that it's more likely to shatter if you drop it?

• 21:11Speaker 01

  I so.

• 21:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:12Speaker 01

In theory, yes, I just don't test that. So I don't know. I don't know. And I'm sure Zach's gonna get his hands on this and do his scratch testing.

• 21:21Speaker 03

But I was wondering if they had anything like in the review guides or something like, don't worry about that. It's fine.

• 21:24Speaker 01

No, they didn't. I mean, they did talk a big game about the finish and it feels great in the hand, which is like the most important thing. It's got this little micro texture to it. I was using the matte black one, which actually feels even more different from that. But.

• 21:35Speaker 03

  Really?

• 21:35Speaker 01

I love the finish on the back.

• 21:37Speaker 03

  It does feel very hard.

• 21:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:40Speaker 03

  I don't really.

• 21:41Speaker 01

I think it's fiberglass on the back and then the nano arc whatever is on the rails. But it feels great.

• 21:46Speaker 03

I love the nano arc whatever.

• 21:47Speaker 01

Yeah. So, yeah, everything about this phone was was great. And then the cameras were a huge letdown. So I'm like, I could daily this phone, but I would just be super disappointed.

• 21:56Speaker 03

If it had the Oppo X9 cameras.

• 21:59Speaker 01

  That would be nice.

• 22:00Speaker 03

Funny you mention that because I was cross shopping those two phones as you do when you have no intention of buying the phones.

• 22:06Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 22:06Speaker 03

Am I the only one, right? Just watching videos constantly about.

• 22:09Speaker 01

Sure, you have no intention of buying the phone?

• 22:10Speaker 03

Not yet. Would you say that the OnePlus 15 is the 15, right?

• 22:16Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 22:16Speaker 03

OnePlus 15 is like just the Apple Find X9 Pro, but for the States? Or are there like dramatic differences or meaningful differences between the two, besides the camera, obviously?

• 22:27Speaker 01

I mean aesthetically, yes. Software wise also, like Oxygen OS is closer and closer to Color OS that it kind of feels like that's also.

• 22:35Speaker 03

Remember they temporarily changed it to Color OS and people got mad even though it was like the same software?

• 22:40Speaker 01

Yeah, so they call it Oxygen OS, but basically the same.

• 22:42Speaker 03

  Sick too, though.

• 22:43Speaker 01

  Color OS is good.

• 22:44Speaker 03

You didn't even remember it, let.

• 22:45Speaker 01

  It is good.

• 22:46Speaker 03

That morning I was watching a video.

• 22:48Speaker 01

We've never talked about Color OS on the podcast. Yeah, it does have a bunch of things like, you know how subtle things? You notice when you open Google Maps? It's not 120 Hz anymore, your phone, or Waze?

• 23:01David Imel?

  I almost

• 23:01Speaker 01

  I don't notice that.

• 23:02David Imel?

It's always in Android Auto, so I almost never.

• 23:04Speaker 01

Did you notice that Android Auto is not 120 Hz?

• 23:07David Imel?

I guess I never thought. I guess I'm, my eyes are usually on the

• 23:10Speaker 01

So yeah, this is, this is like picky, picky, picky little stuff, but like certain apps, Android defaults to not run at 120 Hz to save battery, like Maps. Like you don't need 120 Hz Maps. You're just gonna, you know, update if you're in navigation. Well, okay, perfect, because in this phone, you can go through and choose your max refresh rate on an app-by-app basis.

• 23:32David Imel?

  Oh.

• 23:32Speaker 01

And so you, you open it up and you see everything's set to 120, and then you see Waze and Maps and Android Auto are set to 90 by default. And you can just bump them up to 120, and suddenly you have the smoothest Maps experience of any Android phone. That type of stuff, pretty fire. There's a lot of little settings you can mess with. There's also plenty of stuff you don't have to touch. Like, I don't use their AI stuff. I don't use MindSpace, but it's there if you want to. Uh, yeah, really, really good phone. Really useful phone.

• 23:59David Imel?

But do they sell a pocket for it?

• 24:01Speaker 01

There is no pocket for it, but I'm sure you could put it in the Apple pocket.

• 24:05David Imel?

I don't know. You just put it in a sock.

• 24:06Speaker 01

Probably explode if you put it in a sock. You just buy a $200 sock. You can get amazing socks for $200.

• 24:12David Imel?

You get the Teenage Engineering socks.

• 24:14Speaker 01

  These socks.

• 24:15David Imel?

How much are those? Like $70?

• 24:16Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 24:16David Imel?

  No, they're not that expensive.

• 24:18Speaker 01

But you can only get them if you buy the whole

• 24:20David Imel?

No, I think you could get them separately.

• 24:21Speaker 01

  Oh, really?

• 24:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:22Speaker 01

  How much were they?

• 24:23David Imel?

  Oh, they're $29.

• 24:24Speaker 01

  For two pair.

• 24:24David Imel?

30 bucks for two pairs. Well, we actually, I'm not sure if it's two pair. We're definitely sure it's two pairs.

• 24:29Speaker 01

You can get six pairs of those socks, okay. Anyway, yeah, I like the phone a lot. Watch the full review.

• 24:35David Imel?

I really wanna throw this against concrete and see what happens. I don't think that's how it works. Well, that's the whole thing, right? It's hard.

• 24:41Speaker 01

Well, if you're gonna, you don't, do you, you don't use a case on your phone?

• 24:45David Imel?

  Nah.

• 24:45Speaker 01

So like, the screen's gonna shatter anyway.

• 24:48David Imel?

  Maybe.

• 24:48Speaker 01

  So.

• 24:50David Imel?

I don't know, what if I threw it sideways, you know? I feel like he's imagining he throws it in the concrete, just like splits underneath it.

• 24:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Like when a superhero lands.

• 24:59Speaker 01

That's true. That'd be fair. I mean, it kinda feels like you should be able to do that. Well, uh, speaking of surprising-

• 25:06David Imel?

Speaking of superheroes. We've gone so far off script already, I don't know what-

• 25:10Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm trying to go backwards.

• 25:11David Imel?

Any of you are trying to segue to-

• 25:12Speaker 01

I was gonna go for the iPhone Air next.

• 25:14David Imel?

Oh no, I was going for LeBron.

• 25:15Speaker 01

Oh. Uh, his superheroes, I get it. Well, which one do you want to do? Do you wanna do that?

• 25:20David Imel?

We can do LeBron quick and then we'll jump to iPhone.

• 25:23Speaker 01

Yeah, LeBron has this new show on his, uh, his YouTube channel, it's called Uninterrupted, and the show's called The Main Thing, and he's got these interviews, he's interviewing six people-

• 25:33David Imel?

A day. Wait, it's his YouTube channel?

• 25:36Speaker 01

It's, well, yeah, he runs the company, so it's like kinda his YouTube channel.

• 25:39David Imel?

Oh, but it's not like at LeBron James on YouTube?

• 25:41Speaker 01

It's not at LeBron James, but it's Uninterrupted, and it's the LeBron interview show called The Main Thing.

• 25:46David Imel?

And LeBron does edit all of it.

• 25:48Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, he's got this incredible eye for color correction. I don't know if you guys knew that.

• 25:52David Imel?

So you guys play basketball while you're doing the interview?

• 25:55Speaker 01

No, he, so we, I was one of the guests, I was one of the guests, it was a good time, uh, we shot it like two months ago or something, I don't even remember when we shot this, but it was a good-

• 26:04David Imel?

  Yeah, it was some like-

• 26:06Speaker 01

It was a good interview, and it's finally up now, so if you wanna watch it, it's on YouTube.

• 26:11David Imel?

Wait, do you wanna guess what they actually played during the interview? Fortnite.

• 26:15Speaker 01

How about? We played a video game.

• 26:19David Imel?

Did you actually play the video game?

• 26:20Speaker 01

  We played two video games.

• 26:22David Imel?

  Okay.

• 26:22Speaker 01

  Oh, it was like-

• 26:22David Imel?

Cause I saw them give you-

• 26:24Speaker 01

One from 2004 and one from, oh, you saw it?

• 26:26David Imel?

I saw them give you a controller-

• 26:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:27David Imel?

And I thought it was maybe one of those fake shoots where it's like, "I'm gaming, but actually not."

• 26:32Speaker 01

Well, so the TV was like on the other side of the room, and we were playing like really far away, we played Madden-

• 26:38David Imel?

Wait, oh, that's what I was gonna guess!

• 26:39Speaker 01

Oh, I didn't know you're, oh, so yeah, you were right. You were totally gonna get it.

• 26:42David Imel?

  Oh, sweet.

• 26:44Speaker 01

  Madden 04 and Madden 26.

• 26:46David Imel?

So the one on the N64?

• 26:47Speaker 01

  Was Madden 04.

• 26:48David Imel?

  On the N64?

• 26:49Speaker 01

I think it was an N64. I don't actually remember which console it was.

• 26:52David Imel?

  Was the controller like-

• 26:55Speaker 01

  Describe the controller.

• 26:56David Imel?

Was it for someone with three hands?

• 26:58Speaker 01

Oh, like the middle, I don't think it was that controller. But it was 04, so whatever console you could get Madden 04 on back in the day, that's what we played.

• 27:05Andrew Manganelli?

Actually, 04, I got my Xbox in 7th grade, which would be 2003.

• 27:11Speaker 01

  Could have been.

• 27:12Andrew Manganelli?

So it probably would have been Xbox or PlayStation 2, right?

• 27:15Speaker 01

Yeah, that feels right. Maybe PlayStation 2, yeah.

• 27:17Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it's past N64.

• 27:19Speaker 01

Either way, yes, we did actually play the game. Gamecube. Distracting, trying to interview each other and play Madden. And also, if you're competitive. That sounds hard. We're trying to beat each other in Madden.

• 27:29Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, what football team did you pick?

• 27:31Speaker 01

  I don't remember. I think I picked the Jets. Cause I don't play Madden and I don't really, I don't know who's good in 2004.

• 27:39Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm not even a football.

• 27:41Speaker 01

Wait, why are you guys playing a football game? So Madden, LeBron's a big Madden guy. He plays a lot of Madden. Why isn't he, why isn't he a football player? Well, he used to be a football player. Really? Yeah, and now he plays basketball. And it was funny because I chatted with him about NBA 2K and his biggest gripe was that it's not realistic enough. Which is, I mean, you're a basketball player. Obviously, you're not gonna think it's perfect. But it was funny because I think that's what an NFL player would say about Madden 2. Yes, but what's the other game you guys played? That was it. So Madden 04, and then we switched to Madden 26. So we played the old Madden and then the newest Madden to sort of compare them as a fun little. What were your thoughts on the differences? Uh, it feels like you're playing with polygons in the first one. Yeah. Which is very, it's very old school. There's very few plays.

• 28:23Speaker 01

And the characters move like, um, they don't move like they have joints. They move like they're kind of like on rails, sort of. And like you can move in vectors.

• 28:34Andrew Manganelli?

Like lightweight pulleys that control their arms and keep them at only 68 pounds.

• 28:39Speaker 01

  Like a Neo robot.

• 28:41Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, thanks, Andrew. I was reaching.

• 28:43Speaker 01

It was, it was fun to see, to contrast the difference between old hyper realistic game and new hyper realistic game. And then think about the future of that, which would have been fun. So, yeah, you can go watch that too. That's on the uninterrupted YouTube channel. Okay, well, speaking of something that's getting interrupted, shipments of the iPhone Air.

• 29:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Wow, that was so good.

• 29:04Speaker 01

A lot of people sent me this headline. Yeah.

• 29:08David Imel?

I think that we need to make the distinction that this is all alleged.

• 29:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:12David Imel?

Um, a lot of the headlines were not saying alleged, but the original source was alleged. So it's alleged.

• 29:19Speaker 03

  Allegedly.

• 29:20Speaker 01

  As with any leaks.

• 29:21David Imel?

Yes. So as we know, apparently the iPhone Air is not doing well, which I am still confused about because my anecdotal evidence in New York City.

• 29:30Speaker 03

  In Greenpoint.

• 29:31David Imel?

  In Greenpoint.

• 29:34David Imel?

  Says to me.

• 29:35Speaker 03

  Very representative of America.

• 29:36David Imel?

This is selling very well. Uh, yeah, apparently iPhone Air is not selling well. And selling so badly that they are going to not release the one that they were going to release next year. Which to be fair, they're releasing the iPhone Fold next year, so they would have had just so many phones.

• 29:52Speaker 03

  Allegedly.

• 29:53David Imel?

  Allegedly.

• 29:54Speaker 01

  Maybe.

• 29:54David Imel?

Um, and instead they're going to wait until 2027, spring at the earliest, when they will add a second camera lens, because apparently that has been one of the main gripes. So they're not completely getting rid of the iPhone Air idea like they did with the Mini, rest in peace.

• 30:11David Imel?

But they are, yeah, they're just gonna modify it and add a second camera. I'm just gonna say, I'm not sure that the lack of a second camera was the reason people were not buying this phone.

• 30:20Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:21David Imel?

  Apple, but.

• 30:22Speaker 03

I don't know that to be true. That was a reason why a lot of people that I saw were not buying it was because they were scared of it not having a second lens.

• 30:31Andrew Manganelli?

I think there are two main reasons, not a second lens and a bigger battery. So if they just added a second lens and just made it a little thicker to get a little bit more battery in there.

• 30:39David Imel?

And maybe even drop the price a little. I'm actually kind of wondering why this phone is not selling well.

• 30:44Speaker 01

Because it costs $200 more than a better phone.

• 30:47David Imel?

But how much phones cost in the US doesn't seem to matter to people, because everything was on a payment plan.

• 30:52Speaker 01

But this is worldwide, so it's like, okay, in the US, maybe more people will go with this phone and especially in certain places, but then like outside of that, like the enthusiasts are picking the best phone they can get.

• 31:06David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 31:07Speaker 01

And the normal people are picking the most accessible phone they can get. Then what is the person that picks the more expensive but slightly less functional phone?

• 31:16Speaker 03

The people who buy the stock.

• 31:18Speaker 01

  That is actually true. Yes.

• 31:20David Imel?

Yes. But it's also not that much more expensive. It's like, it's still cheaper than the Pro. Right? So, there's that.

• 31:28Speaker 01

But if you're, if you're gonna spend more money, what do you want out of that?

• 31:31David Imel?

  Depends on who you are.

• 31:32Speaker 01

Yeah, fair enough. I think for maybe most people, you're spending more hoping to get a phone that's better and lasts longer and is like better battery, better cameras and stuff like that. And so you, you see that the Pro is that and you go straight to the Pro. And you skip over the Air, which is in the middle of them.

• 31:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 31:50Speaker 01

If there are some people who obviously go in the store, pick it up, love it, hold it, amazed by it, they're gonna buy that.

• 31:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 31:56Speaker 01

  Because they like it.

• 31:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 31:57Speaker 01

But I just think that's less people than they expected.

• 31:59David Imel?

I will say as well to my anecdotal evidence, I see so many Pros.

• 32:03Speaker 01

I do see a lot of orange Pros.

• 32:05David Imel?

It seems like everyone upgraded this year.

• 32:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 32:08David Imel?

  It's crazy.

• 32:08Speaker 04

Wait, before we get off the pricing talk, do you want to know how much the iPhone Air is monthly? If you were to get it through Apple?

• 32:15David Imel?

  Thirty-seven dollars.

• 32:16Speaker 04

Forty-one. And the regular iPhone 17 is thirty-three.

• 32:20David Imel?

  Okay. I don't think most, I don't know.

• 32:22Speaker 01

So even if you're doing a payment plan, it's like, that's not even the cheapest one.

• 32:26David Imel?

  Yeah, it's not the cheapest.

• 32:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 32:28Speaker 04

Do you guys think for the average consumer who's not sick in the head like us?

• 32:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 32:35Speaker 04

That the 16E actually makes the Air a difficult value proposition? Which, hear me out, right? Kes is gonna [bleep] come over this table. But I think because, I think a lot of people who are not in our world see it's an iPhone with one camera. And then they do some research and the functional differences between them that, other than processing power and RAM and stuff like that, which I would assume the kind of people who are choosing between, like which iPhone to get and are not getting the Pro are not really thinking about, you get... High refresh screen.

• 33:09Speaker 01

  Mm hmm.

• 33:10Speaker 04

  MagSafe and thinness.

• 33:12Speaker 01

Yeah, and other things they won't notice like Pro Chip.

• 33:14Speaker 04

Exactly, and that is a pretty big price discrepancy between 16E and Air. And I'm not saying anyone's going to choose the 16E over the Air, but do you think it makes the value prop of the Air a little bit more confusing?

• 33:27Speaker 01

I think there's a, there's something to it. I just think the second it costs more than the base 17, it was confusing. I think when you have the base 17 sitting there, which is like the easy to understand newest iPhone, and then they also have a more expensive iPhone, which is very pretty, but is a worse, it's a single camera, it is less battery, it is all these downsides.

• 33:49Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 33:49Speaker 01

  That is already.

• 33:51Speaker 04

  That's true.

• 33:51Speaker 01

  Of sort of weird value.

• 33:52Speaker 04

The only benefit is that it's thinner and more sort of like premium and pretty.

• 33:56Speaker 01

  Pretty, yeah.

• 33:57Speaker 04

But it's missing a camera, has worse battery. One of my best friends, who's a 16E owner and like generally likes it.

• 34:04Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 34:04Speaker 04

When she went to go buy it, she was really not sure about one camera. She's not techie at all. And she was like, how am I going to get by with just one camera?

• 34:15Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 34:15Speaker 04

And the Apple Store employee was like, no, no, we're doing this thing. It's called Fusion Camera. Like, like, don't worry. Like, you're going to get a lot of good out of this. Like, this is the future. This is the way.

• 34:23Speaker 01

You have three camera lenses in one.

• 34:24Speaker 04

Yeah, exactly. Like the whole spiel. And then when the 17 regular came out and it still had two cameras, even though Apple never said they were going to do it, she was like, wait a second.

• 34:35Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

• 34:38Speaker 04

  You joshing me?

• 34:39Speaker 01

They do. So, I mean, you can't, you can't fake an ultra wide. You can kind of fake some, some amount of zoom, but if you have a really good telephoto, that's always going to be better.

• 34:48Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 34:49Speaker 01

Uh, I saw a take on Twitter recently, maybe I'll find it again, that was kind of like, someone was saying, I take better pictures now that I only have one camera because I am more intentional. And the random shots that I was going to take with the zoom. Were always worse because they would just be like lazily zooming in with the software instead of intentionally framing it up with the single primary camera.

• 35:10Andrew Manganelli?

Prime or zoom? What kind of shooter are you?

• 35:12Speaker 01

And that is exactly, yeah, that's a real cope, but it is.

• 35:17David Imel?

Yeah, I mean, it's the same excuse that a lot of film photographers use.

• 35:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 35:21David Imel?

I'm more intentional because it's harder.

• 35:23Speaker 01

That was one of my old, old hot takes was primes are stupid.

• 35:27David Imel?

  What?

• 35:28Speaker 01

  Primes are stupid.

• 35:29Andrew Manganelli?

We need to cut this before this is a three hour episode.

• 35:32Speaker 01

  Primes are just not smart.

• 35:34David Imel?

  Next bonus episode.

• 35:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Opinion.

• 35:36David Imel?

  I have an opposite.

• 35:37Speaker 01

  Prove me wrong.

• 35:39Speaker 01

  Primes are just.

• 35:40Andrew Manganelli?

Alright, so. Did any of you guys see the Toy Story 5 trailer?

• 35:43David Imel?

  Zoom with their feet, man.

• 35:45Speaker 01

  Toy Story 5 trailer? No.

• 35:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Zoom with your feet.

• 35:50Speaker 01

  Zoom like this.

• 35:52Andrew Manganelli?

No, I did not see the Toy Story 5 trailer. I'm just imagining Marquez with his feet up on his zoom lens.

• 36:00Speaker 01

  Zoom with your feet, bro.

• 36:01Andrew Manganelli?

  SpongeBob toes, like.

• 36:05Andrew Manganelli?

This is very fast, but none of you guys saw the Toy Story 5 trailer?

• 36:08Speaker 01

  No.

• 36:09Andrew Manganelli?

  It is, all it is.

• 36:11David Imel?

Oh, I did see a frame from it.

• 36:13Andrew Manganelli?

Is a box in like Andy's room, or I don't even know if it's Andy anymore. All of the toys like quivering and freaking out and then at the end they pull out a tablet. And it's basically just, I guess the new movie is about all the toys being really scared of the tablet taking away.

• 36:29David Imel?

  Honestly, fire concepts.

• 36:31Speaker 01

That's a good, that's like a good like AI trailer someone would make on Twitter and you're like, ha, good idea. But they're actually gonna make this a movie.

• 36:37Andrew Manganelli?

This is from Pixar. I want to ask your opinion on this, Andrew, as the only parent in the room, because I have a friend who now has two children and he is struggling making sure that they don't, not you, Ellis. Making sure that they don't have tablet, tablet kids. Like, how is that working out for you? The only time she looks at a tablet is because we have one for FaceTime with some family. She watches TV sometimes and then like if we're on a really long car ride and like pushing bedtime or like something where we're getting real cranky, then I can throw on her favorite show. But does she have like a bunch of toys like, and that's what you? She has toys. She loves to play. Okay. Yeah, play with toys. Follow up question, is she up or down over time on her polymarket account?

• 37:22David Imel?

  She's terrible at Pollywalt.

• 37:25Speaker 01

Always making all these bets. No, I, I, I'm an iPad kid, I think.

• 37:31David Imel?

They didn't have the iPad when you were a kid.

• 37:32Speaker 01

No, I'm, I am an iPad kid now.

• 37:34David Imel?

  Currently an iPad kid.

• 37:36Andrew Manganelli?

I like make food, sit down at the like, in the living room and then I'm just like scrolling through like, Claire will be done eating dinner. I'm like, we haven't even picked what to watch yet. Claire, help me. Stop eating.

• 37:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:49David Imel?

  Oh my god.

• 37:51Speaker 01

I think I eat more of my meals with a screen in front of me than not.

• 37:54David Imel?

  Oh my god.

• 37:54Andrew Manganelli?

Lately, I'm not doing that because now I eat dinner with Lane and Claire and we don't do it in front of the TV. But yeah, before, I would like actually get mad at Claire sometimes.

• 38:02David Imel?

We used to be a country. We used to be.

• 38:05Speaker 01

You should try it. Mealtime. Check out the Mealtime videos subreddit. Tell me that's not just bangers.

• 38:11David Imel?

I do know about that. I've never heard of that.

• 38:13Speaker 01

Mealtime videos, 20, 20, 30 minute videos that you just sit it down and eat your, and it's just great.

• 38:17Andrew Manganelli?

That seems like a great subreddit to spam your YouTube channel on to.

• 38:20Speaker 01

  It probably is.

• 38:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Get some loyal followers.

• 38:23Speaker 01

But it's gotta be like the, yeah, that perfect length of video.

• 38:26David Imel?

I hope that Toy Story 5, I hope that the big ethical question that they explore is what's happening to our children with the iPad.

• 38:34Speaker 01

I feel like it's gotta be.

• 38:35David Imel?

  I really hope so.

• 38:36Speaker 01

  It's based on the trailer.

• 38:37David Imel?

  It's a big thing. It's a big deal. It's a big ethical question.

• 38:39Speaker 01

It's a lot of iPad kids.

• 38:40Andrew Manganelli?

The funny thing about it is the amount of kids that will probably watch Toy Story 5 on an iPad is a large percentage after.

• 38:47David Imel?

And they won't understand what they're watching. They won't be like, is this bad for my brain development?

• 38:52Andrew Manganelli?

No, they're gonna have it split screen with Google Docs.

• 38:55David Imel?

  And Pollymark.

• 38:57Speaker 01

  Picture in pictures.

• 38:59Andrew Manganelli?

Trading stocks while watching Toy Story 5 in their diaper.

• 39:02Speaker 01

All right, well, let's take a quick break and do some trivia and we got a little more to talk about after, but let's hit it.

• 39:11David Imel?

  Scooby dooby doo.

• 39:13Speaker 04

Guys, I have two potential questions for today. I figured I'd ask, would you rather answer a question about battery sizes?

• 39:21David Imel?

  Hmm.

• 39:22Speaker 04

  Or socks?

• 39:24David Imel?

  Socks, socks.

• 39:25Speaker 01

  Battery sizes.

• 39:26Speaker 04

Um, guys, that iPhone sock is really expensive, but what is more expensive? A, the most recent, brand new in package, excuse me, brand new inbox listing sold on eBay, like the view old sold products, of a five pack of the original 2004 iPod socks.

• 39:50Speaker 04

  Really long.

• 39:50Speaker 01

  Unopened.

• 39:51Speaker 04

Unopened, five pack in the packaging. B, the short strap iPhone pocket, not the long strap.

• 39:58Speaker 01

  The 150.

• 39:59Speaker 04

Or C, a pair of plain white men's socks from the fashion brand Balenciaga.

• 40:08Speaker 04

  That's two socks.

• 40:09Speaker 01

God, plain white men. You know how a plain white t-shirt would be like $200?

• 40:12Speaker 04

I also realize it's a little confusing because like, you know, the first item is five socks. The second item is one sock.

• 40:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:20Speaker 04

And the third item is two socks. So we're going by SKUs here.

• 40:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:24Speaker 04

  Make it clear.

• 40:24Speaker 01

Plain white, like there's not even a Balenciaga logo on it?

• 40:27Speaker 04

It says the word Balenciaga in black text.

• 40:29Speaker 01

I know what the answer is.

• 40:33Speaker 01

All right. Well, we'll, we'll think about that. Of course, if we don't get it right, we'll at least learn something very interesting about socks. We'll be right back.

• 42:52Andrew Manganelli?

All right, welcome back. I'm going to do a very, very quick recap of GTA 6 getting delayed. Because I don't think any of us here-

• 43:00David Imel?

  I've never played GTA before.

• 43:01Andrew Manganelli?

  I've played some older ones.

• 43:02David Imel?

Oh my god, what is wrong with you? I've only sat on the couch during COVID and watched Michael Fisher play GTA. That's all, that's all I've done.

• 43:08Andrew Manganelli?

That's, that's pretty close to playing, yeah.

• 43:10David Imel?

  I guess.

• 43:11Andrew Manganelli?

Well, okay, so Grand Theft Auto has been delayed till November 19th, 2026.

• 43:17David Imel?

  Let's go, baby.

• 43:18Andrew Manganelli?

It's no, that is one year from now. It had already been delayed to May 2026, but now, I guess, months before that even happening, they decided, we can't even hit that one. We're delaying another year.

• 43:29David Imel?

  Let's go.

• 43:30Andrew Manganelli?

That's, that's a long time. It's already the meme of like, we already got blank and blank before GTA 6, like everywhere, so.

• 43:38David Imel?

The iPhone sock before GTA 6.

• 43:40Andrew Manganelli?

  We got the iPhones.

• 43:41Speaker 01

Isn't that the one that had the trailer come out that was super, super viral?

• 43:44David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:44Speaker 01

  That was GTA 6?

• 43:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, yeah.

• 43:46David Imel?

It's like one of the highest viewed YouTube videos of all time.

• 43:49Speaker 01

So what do you think is delaying it? What do you, what is not done?

• 43:51Andrew Manganelli?

So their official quote was, "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realized has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with level of polish that you have come to expect and deserve."

• 44:00David Imel?

Well, one of the biggest polymarket bets is whether or not GTA 6 will be over $100. And there's like, people have put so much money into this bet.

• 44:12Speaker 01

  It's gotta be over, right?

• 44:14David Imel?

The bundle or just the game? I think just the base game. Like just a straight up, there's no way.

• 44:19Speaker 01

Usually games are like sixty, seventy.

• 44:21Speaker 04

Put your money where your mouth is, Adam. Like 2K, you can spend over a hundred dollars on a new copy of 2K.

• 44:28Speaker 01

Uh, but the base copy is like eighty or ninety, I think you. And that's one of the more expensive.

• 44:33David Imel?

Well, yeah, but they were working on GTA 6 for like, oh, it's like the biggest game ever.

• 44:37Speaker 01

It's true. It has the most hype. It has the most like people waiting for it and delays. I mean, it's essentially infinite demand and they can make infinite supply. I think if they made it a hundred, ten bucks, people would buy it.

• 44:47David Imel?

  Yes, they would.

• 44:48Speaker 03

  Don't say that.

• 44:49Speaker 01

I'm just, it's true. I hate saying it because I don't want it to be true, but it's like one of those things where it's like, we want it to be forty bucks.

• 44:56David Imel?

Remember how mad people were, I mean, this is exactly what happened with Mario Kart World. People were so mad that it was eighty dollars, but it's exactly what you're saying. People will still buy it.

• 45:04Speaker 01

Yeah, they'll grumble all the way to the cash register.

• 45:06David Imel?

Yeah. There was some insane stat that was like ninety-five percent of people who own a Switch 2 also own Mario Kart World.

• 45:13Speaker 04

Well, that's because there's no other games out for it, except for Donkey Kong.

• 45:16Speaker 01

It's the best game for it. But yeah, that's, it's fair. Yeah.

• 45:19Speaker 03

You know what really pisses me off about this delay?

• 45:21David Imel?

  What?

• 45:22Speaker 03

That I've been doing a good job of keep putting it out of my head that, oh, GTA 6 is delayed. Like, okay, whatever, no big deal. I like, forget about it. I go about my life, live happily ever after. And then they announce that they're delaying it again and remind me that it's delayed. And I was like, I was fine.

• 45:38David Imel?

So you're looking forward to it?

• 45:40Speaker 03

  Oh, I'm buying this game.

• 45:41David Imel?

  Oh, really?

• 45:41Speaker 03

Yeah. I, I hope it's not over a hundred dollars, Marquez. Don't put that in the universe.

• 45:45Speaker 01

It has been a, how long has it been since the last one?

• 45:48Speaker 03

  Fifteen years or something crazy?

• 45:50Speaker 01

Because my sister's husband, when he was in college, apparently skipped a bunch of classes when he bought. When the last one came out to play it and in the process of playing it, got his car stolen.

• 46:06Andrew Manganelli?

That's amazing. But yeah, so I think it'll be, you know, something similar happened with Cyberpunk where they delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed, and then it came out and it was, it had some issues and it got scrutinized to all hell because, partially because of how much it got delayed. So this thing better be polished. I am interested. We just saw Silk Song come out and make a bunch of games push outside. This feels like this is going to be like the whatever top tier gaming version of that, like big, big company doing it where I would not doubt if some companies plan to come out next fall and are like, eh, just kidding, GTA 6.

• 46:44Speaker 03

You know, I think there was a bunch of people that changed their release dates, like a bunch of companies.

• 46:47Andrew Manganelli?

  For Silk Song or?

• 46:48Speaker 03

  No, for.

• 46:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Already for this?

• 46:50Speaker 03

No, and they changed it because they thought it was coming out at a certain time and now this is happening. They're like scrambling, like, oh my God, we gotta change it again.

• 46:57David Imel?

I saw a tweet that said, like, when you got your wife pregnant, to time it perfectly with the GTA 6. And then they delayed.

• 47:05Andrew Manganelli?

  That's brutal.

• 47:07David Imel?

Damn. You know, it's funny, the last GTA came out in 2013 and it's been delayed twice. The last Streetlight Manifesto album came out in 2013 and it's been delayed twice. Which one's gonna come out first, baby? We'll find out. That's a new polymarket.

• 47:23David Imel?

Polymarket, yeah, it's gonna be GTA or Streetlight Manifesto. We'll see. Is this not financial advice? No, and we do not endorse polymarket.

• 47:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Or delaying.

• 47:31Speaker 03

  Or Streetlight Manifesto.

• 47:32David Imel?

I do. Speaking of Streetlight Manifesto, because of music, Spotify, as we know, every year, does the big wrapped thing. Spotify creating their wrapped thing has really made every other company in the world decide to look at all your data.

• 47:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Except you two.

• 47:48David Imel?

  You, well.

• 47:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Well.

• 47:50David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Well.

• 47:53David Imel?

YouTube, Google does everything too early and too cringe and because of that, they just, they can never come back, you know? It's like social media, too early, little too cringe.

• 48:05David Imel?

Glasses, too early, too cringe. So Spotify now is thinking of doing a new.

• 48:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, it's out.

• 48:13David Imel?

  Oh, it's out.

• 48:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 48:14David Imel?

They thought about it and then they did it. A weekly rap where they release your listening stats. So now you can just click on an icon and it is right there in the dropdown menu. It shows you your top five artists and top five songs of the week. And then each of those lists has some more like your top song suggestions under that. So it's kind of like your release radar in a way. It's sort of just like, I don't know. It's telling you what you were listening to and then giving you suggestions. Cause I think the number one complaint about Spotify and probably most music streaming services at this point is that you just get trapped in this little circular algorithm of artists that are kind of like each other. And it just suggests them constantly in a circle forever until the end of time.

• 48:56Speaker 01

It depends on what type of artists they are. Sometimes if you're in like a more niche artist and then they're only connected to a few other niche ones, then you get in a circle. But if you're in like, you have to like find the biggest spoke that has the most outside connection. And then you like slingshot out via that artist.

• 49:11Speaker 03

  Like a demon hunter.

• 49:12Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, kinda. Anyway, yeah, go on.

• 49:15Andrew Manganelli?

  That's pretty much it.

• 49:16David Imel?

I think, yeah, that's what it is. That's what it is, but Andrew wanted.

• 49:18Speaker 01

  Any interesting.

• 49:19David Imel?

Andrew wanted us to share our top five.

• 49:21Andrew Manganelli?

I think we should all share our top five songs. You should also go back to last week because it continues. It sets it up into weeks. So right now the current week is only one day old.

• 49:30Speaker 03

This is like useless to me because I'm one of those psychos that listen to the same thing constantly for like a week.

• 49:37Speaker 01

Same. Oh, yeah. Well, do you, so are you, I have a feeling we're the same type of Spotify listener.

• 49:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:43Speaker 01

You like have two or three songs that you just found that you, you repeat through them over and over and over again until you're sick of them. And then you find three new ones and then that's the rotation.

• 49:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:52Speaker 01

And then when you go back and find the last three, it reminds you of the time.

• 49:55Speaker 03

Oh, what, what a time that was.

• 49:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, okay, yeah.

• 49:58Speaker 03

  No, I'm the same way.

• 49:59Speaker 01

Yeah. I've been, I have a song that I've been listening to by Feed Me so much in the past month. I am very confident it's going to be one of the top songs of the year for me. Like very confident.

• 50:10Speaker 03

  Hmm. What is it called?

• 50:11Speaker 01

Uh, the song is called Stop Motion.

• 50:15Andrew Manganelli?

  By Feed Me?

• 50:16David Imel?

  By Feed Me.

• 50:16Speaker 04

  Feed Me.

• 50:17Andrew Manganelli?

This is every time we do this, I realize I probably have the worst taste in music out of everything.

• 50:21David Imel?

So yeah, Feed Me was my number one artist.

• 50:24Andrew Manganelli?

There's nothing wrong with Bruce Springsteen.

• 50:25Speaker 04

  There's nothing wrong with anything.

• 50:26David Imel?

Yeah, that that's not a surprise to me. The Mountain Goats and then Attaboy, which nobody knows. And then Parcels, but it's down because it's five weeks in my top five because they had a new album that came out that was fire.

• 50:39Speaker 01

Five weeks in your top five?

• 50:40David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 50:41Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 50:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, it's. Oh, yeah.

• 50:43David Imel?

I tend to, if there's a new, if there's a new artist that I find, I listen to their discography nonstop for three months until I hate them.

• 50:50Speaker 01

  And you just pick your.

• 50:52David Imel?

  Okay.

• 50:53Andrew Manganelli?

And then you get like one week of someone else and then you probably dive back.

• 50:56David Imel?

Yes, that's exactly what it does.

• 50:57Andrew Manganelli?

  We have similar listening patterns.

• 50:59David Imel?

Yeah. Uh, and then two artists that I don't listen to, but I think keep getting suggested and auto playing after the Mountain Goats plays.

• 51:07Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 51:07David Imel?

  So.

• 51:08Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 51:09David Imel?

They had a new album come out this week too that was fire, so.

• 51:11Andrew Manganelli?

What you got, Ellis? I know you got something fun.

• 51:13Speaker 04

  I, I'm confused, man. I guess mine.

• 51:17Andrew Manganelli?

Don't go to the, the current week just because like it's only been one day.

• 51:21Speaker 04

I listen to music in like a ton of different ways. Like I have Spotify. I have a CD player and a tape player at home. I've been listening to a lot of music on YouTube.

• 51:28Speaker 01

The hell is a tape player?

• 51:32Speaker 01

Oh, that's that thing with the, you take it out and you flip it. Oh, I know what that is.

• 51:35Speaker 04

Do you know what a tape is?

• 51:36Speaker 01

No, you're right. I know what that is.

• 51:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, you're, you're right, Ellis.

• 51:40Speaker 04

  We're so old, Ellis.

• 51:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Leave it, Ellis.

• 51:44Speaker 04

They're like, hey, what's an artist you listen to?

• 51:46Andrew Manganelli?

Well, here's all of the ways I listen to music.

• 51:49Speaker 04

See, I can do that on the street TikTok and then give me an apartment tour on the street TikTok at the same time. You know, it's just efficient. No, so I'm really confused because half of these songs I, I don't even know, which me, I think it was like they algorithmically played once and because I use Spotify so little.

• 52:06David Imel?

  That's what happened to me.

• 52:06Speaker 04

So I have, uh, my top artist is John Coltrane, which I don't remember listening to John Coltrane that week. My, uh, my top song is Lean for Real by Playboy Carti, another song I don't know.

• 52:22Andrew Manganelli?

And then the rest is just Sade, which checks out.

• 52:26Speaker 03

Uh, number one, New Jobs? I don't know how to pronounce it. Is this artists or songs? Top songs.

• 52:31David Imel?

  New Jobs.

• 52:31Speaker 03

New Jobs, Sea of Cloud. Number two, Lupe Fiasco, The Cool. Force of Nature, Death Wish. Number three, Golden. Number four.

• 52:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 52:40Speaker 03

  Already know.

• 52:41David Imel?

  Yes.

• 52:42Speaker 03

And then Danny Elfman. What's Golden Jurassic Five?

• 52:45David Imel?

No, it's Golden is on K-pop Demon Hunters.

• 52:48Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 52:48David Imel?

  It's high replay value.

• 52:49Speaker 03

  It's the main song.

• 52:50David Imel?

  I'm telling you.

• 52:51Speaker 03

It's been in my top five for multiple weeks, apparently.

• 52:54Andrew Manganelli?

Sorry, what was the fifth one?

• 52:55Speaker 03

Uh, Jack's Lament, Nightmare Before Christmas is the song. Cause it was Halloween.

• 52:59David Imel?

Sounds like you're going up, up, up to the top, Adam.

• 53:02Speaker 03

  Nice.

• 53:02David Imel?

  Gotta be.

• 53:03Andrew Manganelli?

Mine's all over the place. I have Rosalita by Bruce Springsteen. Great song. No Broke Boys by Disco Lines and Tenaje. Cause Lane and I dance to that song all the time.

• 53:14Speaker 03

  Don't blame your daughter.

• 53:15Andrew Manganelli?

It's so good. Have you heard that song? It's really good.

• 53:18David Imel?

Andrew's definitely on the way home. It's a kid's song called No Broke Boys.

• 53:21Andrew Manganelli?

No, it's not a kid. It is not a kid's song.

• 53:24David Imel?

  Okay, good.

• 53:25Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, I Want to Get Better by Bleachers, All Falls Down by Alan Walker, and Trauma Free by Deadmau5.

• 53:31David Imel?

  Where's their T-shirt?

• 53:31Speaker 03

Trauma Free by, is that new?

• 53:33Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, it's newer. You definitely know it. It's a few years old, though.

• 53:38David Imel?

I don't know if I've heard of that song.

• 53:39Andrew Manganelli?

  You have.

• 53:40David Imel?

Sounds like we all listen to completely different music.

• 53:43Speaker 03

Sometimes our studio blend is just insane.

• 53:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Am I on that?

• 53:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 53:48Andrew Manganelli?

We haven't been on it for a while.

• 53:49David Imel?

  I haven't looked at it.

• 53:50Andrew Manganelli?

David, did you listen to my cool music playlist I sent you, the YouTube link?

• 53:53David Imel?

  Not yet.

• 53:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Cool.

• 53:57David Imel?

Well, you sent it to me and then I didn't work at my apartment for a while. So, got it. All right.

• 54:02Speaker 03

You know, he only has internet in his apartment. Let's do two. Do you want to do the E Ink frame?

• 54:07David Imel?

  Okay, so.

• 54:08Speaker 03

  Check it out.

• 54:08David Imel?

  Last two week, three week?

• 54:11Andrew Manganelli?

Actually, before, I just want to say it's actually pronounced ink. So.

• 54:14David Imel?

  Oh, I ink. Ink?

• 54:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Ink. E Ink.

• 54:17David Imel?

Ink. All right. So a few weeks ago, we, Andrew and I got very giddy about this new E Ink Aura Frame. Um, and because Ink is a very cool technology, we're super excited about it. They actually sent us over a couple of them, which is very cool. So they sent us like their normal frames, which are, you know, screens. Updated technology. Let's bring it back. Liquid crystal. But now we have actual ink. So.

• 54:46David Imel?

Well, yeah, it's still electronic ink. Electronic ink. So this, I'm gonna try to show this without too much glare. From far away, it probably looks pretty good. And like up close, it kind of looks like a half-tone kind of look.

• 54:58Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm like four feet away or something and it looks like a photo in a photo.

• 55:02David Imel?

Yeah, it kind of looks like a photo, but I want to show you what happens when you change out the picture.

• 55:07Andrew Manganelli?

It's for audio listeners, it's really convincing from a few feet away. It's one of those things where you unbox it and you put your first picture in and you're sitting right next to it. You're like, oh, man, this looks pretty bad.

• 55:16David Imel?

  Are you ready?

• 55:17Andrew Manganelli?

And then, so when you change the picture, which this is only supposed to do at night, it just for like 20 seconds flashes like crazy. It hasn't started. Oh, wait, no, now it's starting. Okay. It just flashes because I think it's changing all the, yeah, it's moving it all around and changing all the different areas. Cause so you'll see like part of the picture will stop flashing and then other parts will keep going.

• 55:39Speaker 01

If you've used a Kindle before, you've seen this effect in some version, which is like you turn the page and it flashes and it brings the new text into effect. This is just doing it with color and with way more detail.

• 55:51David Imel?

Yeah. So I've tried a lot of different photos with this. I really like it. It looks, it kind of looks like pixel art. Whereas if you're far enough away, it looks like regular art. But when you get up close to it, it's kind of like this half-tone pixely thing. I will say it's not very good with black and white photos. I will show a black and white photo on it because it kind of like adds the sepia look to it. Cause it's like not good at doing true blacks.

• 56:17Speaker 01

It's not perfectly black. That's fair.

• 56:18David Imel?

So it has a sort of like yellow cast. I think that it mixes in some of the yellow beads with the black beads. I'm not really sure why.

• 56:25Andrew Manganelli?

One of those pieces of technologies that I cannot get behind for this specific use case.

• 56:30Speaker 01

  I'm happy.

• 56:31David Imel?

It feels right atom core. Oops, I accidentally did it sideways. If you just spin it, it should. Oh, does it automatically? But then it has to. This is no auto rotate. Well, it does have auto rotate, but it just like, but it needs to re-flash again.

• 56:43Speaker 01

  I should have done it.

• 56:44Andrew Manganelli?

It's cool. One thing we forgot to mention the first time around is this is $500. This is like a new thing they're doing. It is very expensive.

• 56:53David Imel?

It's rotating. That's, oh, is it rotating?

• 56:55Andrew Manganelli?

I've been enjoying it so far. I think the ultimate test will be now that the holidays are coming up. I have it hung up. I'm interested to see how many family members walk by it. And if they like notice that there's something off about it, or if they just think it's another picture frame.

• 57:10David Imel?

So it's like pretty, no, it's doing it again.

• 57:12Speaker 03

  I don't think anyone's gonna notice.

• 57:14David Imel?

  Oh, no.

• 57:14Speaker 03

I think it's fine. The issue that I have with something like this is part of the, to me, part of the point of taking pictures and printing them out is to like, hand them out or in a hundred years, find it in my attic or you know, like those moments are kind of what makes.

• 57:30David Imel?

You can find this in your attic. It's e-ink.

• 57:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:32David Imel?

If it dies, it's still, it's still set.

• 57:34Speaker 03

With no picture or memory on it.

• 57:36David Imel?

It would have a picture on it.

• 57:37Speaker 03

  In a hundred years.

• 57:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 57:39Speaker 03

You don't think the battery would explode?

• 57:40David Imel?

  It doesn't matter.

• 57:41Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think you need to.

• 57:42David Imel?

It's like an Etch A Sketch.

• 57:43Andrew Manganelli?

  It's getting set.

• 57:44David Imel?

It is like an Etch A Sketch. It won't erase it.

• 57:47Speaker 03

Yeah, but when that thing's a big spicy pillow, I don't know how much.

• 57:51Andrew Manganelli?

I think you don't have to pick one or the other, though. Like, I still plan on having.

• 57:54Speaker 03

  Five hundred dollars?

• 57:55Andrew Manganelli?

I'm not gonna, not all my, I don't have one photo in my house, though. Like, I'm not gonna pay five hundred dollars for every photo to be an e-ink one. I'm gonna have photos and art set up, but like, it's nice to have one that's a rotating one.

• 58:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:08Andrew Manganelli?

You can't put every picture you ever take up on the wall.

• 58:10David Imel?

It also has like, the app has like positioning and you can zoom in and you can make it, cause right now it has a little bit of a black border. But you can see it, it's not good at true black and white. Like, it adds like a sepia look. And when I, like, this is a thirty-five millimeter shot, and when I bring it into the darkroom and do actual darkroom printing, those blacks are inky as heck and more inky than this. But, uh, you know, I think for the colors, it's quite nice. And I'm very excited to put it up and just have it cycle through some pictures, cause I think that's gonna be super cool. Five hundred is a lot, but it is one of the first things that does this, obviously. This has been like my dream forever. So the technology will get cheaper eventually. You know, photo frames in general are really cheap now. I mean, the Aura ones are not, but that's because they're like

• 58:54David Imel?

ultra-high resolution. You can, they have all these features, whatever. But if you want just like a, a cheap photo frame, you can get one of those for insanely cheap. So I'm hoping that this technology catches on and it becomes, you know, better. They get more ink blotches and you can do more true blacks. I think that'd be nice. Yeah, then it would be, I guess the advantage of it is like, cause you can get a digital picture frame that rotates through and it's not e-ink and it looks fine.

• 59:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 59:18David Imel?

This one can kind of look more like a print.

• 59:21Andrew Manganelli?

Well, and this one also has a battery that can last three months. So you can hang it on the wall without hiding a wire. And then just charge it like your Nest doorbell where you just take it off, charge it for a couple of hours every three months.

• 59:34David Imel?

And all the battery really does is allow it to change photos and then have the little light in it that kind of illuminates it because it needs it.

• 59:40Speaker 01

  It's a backlight, yeah.

• 59:41David Imel?

Well, it's a front light, not behind it, but yeah.

• 59:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 59:44David Imel?

It helps you see it. But like, if it dies, it'll just stay static on whatever the last image is. So that's also fine, you know?

• 59:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Cool.

• 59:51David Imel?

  Yeah. So, I don't know. I think it's cool.

• 59:54Andrew Manganelli?

  I like it.

• 59:54David Imel?

I think it's cool. I want to hang it up and see what it does.

• 59:57Andrew Manganelli?

I am being a grump on this. I do not, I'm very whelmed.

• 1:00:01David Imel?

I hope you feel good about being wrong, Adam. Um, cool.

• 1:00:06Andrew Manganelli?

All right, well, I took, this morning, since it was, this is, there's no segue here. I'm just jumping right into the next one.

• 1:00:12David Imel?

  Okay.

• 1:00:14Andrew Manganelli?

Well, it's funny because I had this, this segue written for this and then I messed up the order of everything. I was gonna say, speaking of raps, smartphone season's wrapped. Anyways, so we're segue when you have to go back.

• 1:00:26David Imel?

  Talk about rap or something.

• 1:00:27Andrew Manganelli?

I just decided that now that Tech number and Techtober have ended, and we're kind of in our slower season, I wanted to pull some numbers from the main channel. Cause we just wrapped up smartphone season. So I took August 1st to October 31st. That really feels like when all the big phones come out. And these numbers are pretty awesome. These are all just from main channel. So we had 1 million or 115 million 800,000 long form views, 11 million 100,000 long form watch hours, 85 million short form views, 783,000 watch hours, short form. Despite four of our top four, five videos being shorts, the number one video was actually a long form. So our most viewed video in this

• 1:01:11Andrew Manganelli?

wasn't a short, it was a long form with 13 million views, um, was the iPhone 17 Pro and Air impressions. That one looks really good. That one's really good.

• 1:01:22Speaker 01

  They put the frame down.

• 1:01:23David Imel?

It looks so cool. Look at how cool it looks.

• 1:01:26Andrew Manganelli?

Our top five long form videos, iPhone 17 Pro and Air impressions, iPhone 17 Pro Air unboxing, Meta Ray-Ban display glasses, AirPods 3 Pro review, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Some other notable things, unboxing the $40,000 sealed OG iPhone got 750,000 views in the last 90 days.

• 1:01:47Speaker 01

  That's crazy.

• 1:01:48Andrew Manganelli?

That video is two years old.

• 1:01:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:01:50Andrew Manganelli?

Also, the reviewing every Samsung Galaxy video had 700,000 views in the last three months. That's from March 2024. And then only two videos the whole month didn't hit 3 million, or the whole time span, so last three months, didn't hit 3 million views, which is top five sports tech and investigating Tesla robotaxi, 1.4 million and 2.9 million views. The average view between those 16 videos in the last three months was 5.7 million.

• 1:02:17Speaker 01

  Jeez.

• 1:02:17Andrew Manganelli?

So that, we cooks. The last smartphone seasons was crazy and busy. And it feels weird now that it's like slowing down, but.

• 1:02:26Speaker 01

My favorite stat usually is just like taking the number of watch hours and converting that into years of human life that have been wiped from this planet. So just for context.

• 1:02:37Andrew Manganelli?

We're the reason Toy Story 5 is making the tablet.

• 1:02:40Speaker 01

So you can either read it as in total, everyone watching the videos in short form, just the short form videos.

• 1:02:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 1:02:50Speaker 01

  That's only short form?

• 1:02:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Wait, for which ones?

• 1:02:53Speaker 01

  783,000 watch hours was just.

• 1:02:55Andrew Manganelli?

It was only short form videos.

• 1:02:57Speaker 01

Oh my god. Okay, wait, that's even better.

• 1:03:01Speaker 01

So 783,000 watch hours total spread amongst all of the people who have been watching all the shorts that we uploaded that were viewed during the month?

• 1:03:11Andrew Manganelli?

  Three months.

• 1:03:11Speaker 01

You can think of, or during the three months, you can think of it as that, or you can think of it as one person watching all of our shorts for 89 years straight. Kids know what that's like. Watching Minecraft. That is so much. That is so much.

• 1:03:27Speaker 03

Do you want to know how many years of long form it's been?

• 1:03:30Speaker 01

Yeah, I didn't even, okay. Times that by 11. How long is that for a long form?

• 1:03:33Speaker 03

  It would be 1,272 years.

• 1:03:37Speaker 01

Oh, that's just not even possible for a human.

• 1:03:39Speaker 03

  That's. Back to different.

• 1:03:40Speaker 01

The flunkers on the earth have been around. Have you heard of Brian Johnson?

• 1:03:44Speaker 01

A thousand years of watch time is crazy for three months. Yeah. But isn't that crazy? You could just watch shorts for 89 years straight. It still wouldn't have equaled the amount. Mark has by display logic, it's 1.5 K years.

• 1:04:01Speaker 01

I hate that even more. That's right. Yeah, yeah, anyway. So that is, hey, that's thanks to you guys. So shout out to you guys for watching the videos. And, uh, you know, you say it's slowing down, Andrew, but it's still, it's still going. We just talked about a sock as the top. That's fair. In our defense, that was the top news story. I know, that's what I'm saying. We're slowing down. 1 plus 15, trifolds, random other stuff's happening still, like, we're almost. E Ink frames. And though the smartphone awards are coming up and like, we're, we're kind of still on the thick of it, but hey. Hey. All right. All right. We have one more segment that we want to do, which is overhyped or underhyped. Should we do that after the ad break? Yes. Yeah. Then let's do trivia.

• 1:04:42Speaker 03

Trivia, dude, it's trivia, dude, we're doing trivia, dude. Trivia. So earlier in the episode, we were talking about tech brands that have done hype beast collabs with fashion brands. So I have a question for you. Bathing ape and stash.

• 1:04:59Speaker 01

  Bathing ape?

• 1:05:00Speaker 03

  Bathing ape, babe, bathing ape.

• 1:05:02Speaker 01

He's an F1 driver? No. That's what vape is? Bathing ape? Could I look it up?

• 1:05:07Speaker 03

No. They once collabed with which famous camera brand to launch a custom camera? Bathing ape and stash.

• 1:05:16Speaker 01

  The tea company? Stash?

• 1:05:19Speaker 03

American visual artist stash, AKA Josh Franklin.

• 1:05:23Speaker 04

  One more confused.

• 1:05:25Speaker 01

  It's just, he's an artist.

• 1:05:26Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 1:05:27Speaker 01

  And.

• 1:05:27Speaker 04

  And they made a camera.

• 1:05:29Speaker 01

They collabed to make a camera with which company?

• 1:05:32Speaker 04

Okay. It's called the Stash Bape Camera, which reminds me of, uh.

• 1:05:37Speaker 01

  Bape.

• 1:05:37Speaker 04

If you're a hype brand, you don't need to name things. It's awesome.

• 1:05:41Andrew Manganelli?

  That's crazy.

• 1:05:42Speaker 04

Sony should be a hype company and stop naming things. One time when I was like a teenager, I woke up in the morning and I met my dad in the kitchen. He was like drinking coffee and I saw him like pick up a newspaper and it was the LA Times and there was a feature story about the rapper Earl Sweatshirt. And my dad picked it up and I just see he was like still waking up, no coffee. He goes, he says out loud, "Odd Futures Earl Sweatshirt." And he just puts the paper down and looks at me and goes, "What the [bleep] does that mean?"

• 1:06:15Speaker 04

Which is exactly how Stash Bape Camera sounds.

• 1:06:20Speaker 01

All right. Yeah, all right. Well. We're definitely going to learn something this episode. We'll be right back.

• 1:06:35Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? • 1:08:15Speaker 03

Welcome back. It is time for hypothetically speaking, everyone's favorite segment where we have to decide if something is overhyped, underhyped, and the three hosts get one perfectly hyped.

• 1:08:26David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:08:26Speaker 01

I'm using it on the first thing.

• 1:08:28Speaker 03

The first thing. Okay, here we go. First thing.

• 1:08:30David Imel?

  Bubble soap, candy.

• 1:08:33Speaker 03

Hyped, overhyped or underhyped? GTA 6.

• 1:08:39Speaker 01

Well, we can't know the answer.

• 1:08:41David Imel?

How are we supposed to know that?

• 1:08:42Speaker 01

It is clearly very, very hyped. We will be guessing on if it's over or underhyped based on what we think the game will actually be.

• 1:08:51David Imel?

I don't know if it's possible to know that.

• 1:08:53Speaker 03

You could use your perfectly hyped. Marques said he was gonna use his perfectly hyped.

• 1:08:56Speaker 01

The thing is, okay, the thing is when something is that hyped, it's basically impossible to live up to the hype.

• 1:09:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:01Speaker 01

So I think we would be safely, probably correct if we said overhyped.

• 1:09:04David Imel?

  I would agree with that.

• 1:09:05Speaker 01

When has a game ever been this hyped and lived up to it?

• 1:09:09David Imel?

  Breath of the Wild.

• 1:09:11Speaker 01

Was that not nearly? This is one of the most, the trailer for it was one of the most viewed YouTube videos of the year.

• 1:09:18David Imel?

  Of all time.

• 1:09:19Speaker 01

  It's crazy. There's just, there's no way.

• 1:09:22David Imel?

Yeah. I mean, between those three options, I'd probably say overhyped.

• 1:09:25Speaker 03

I'd say overhyped. I was gonna be meaner about it. Same game, new city.

• 1:09:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Wow.

• 1:09:31Speaker 03

  I don't even know if that's true.

• 1:09:34David Imel?

We don't know if it's the same game, but it's basically.

• 1:09:36Speaker 01

Where is it? Is it set in Miami?

• 1:09:37Speaker 03

It's in Florida, not Miami. It's supposedly a different city. I wish it was just like.

• 1:09:41David Imel?

There are other cities in Florida?

• 1:09:44Speaker 03

  It's in Orlando.

• 1:09:45David Imel?

  It's at Disney World.

• 1:09:48Speaker 03

  Never mind, underhyped.

• 1:09:49Speaker 08

Original soundtrack by Florida Georgia Line.

• 1:09:52David Imel?

What's that place where they have all the boats? Where Below Deck is based?

• 1:09:59Speaker 04

What is blank stares across the room?

• 1:10:01Speaker 01

Wait, guys, there's two trailers. There's a trailer from a year ago with 268 million views, and then they did another trailer six months later, which got another 139 million views. There's no way it lives up to this hype. There's no shot.

• 1:10:12David Imel?

I don't know, man. What if it does?

• 1:10:14Speaker 01

GTA V is like one of the most sold games of all time. If it does live up to the hype, we'll come back to this episode and give it an underhyped or perfectly hyped, but as of right now, there's just the odds. Mark has to shave his head.

• 1:10:24Speaker 04

If he has a better shot, it's overhyped.

• 1:10:25Speaker 01

Yeah, it's definitely overhyped. I'll just say overhyped. Doesn't mean it's not good.

• 1:10:28Speaker 04

Alright, so overhyped for GTA 6. Alright, the next one is

• 1:10:35Speaker 04

  Teenage Engineering.

• 1:10:41Speaker 01

So, I've only ever used one Teenage Engineering product in my life. And that is The recorder. The microphone, the recorder. What about the actual recorder? Yeah. That Hugo like brought us? Oh, I don't think- Because that's different from the microphone. I use them, I have the microphone at home. The microphone's good, though, right? So, the microphone is not very hyped, but it is $1,200. Yeah. So, if we're talking overpriced or underpriced, it is overpriced. Priced.

• 1:11:14Speaker 01

  Microphones are expensive.

• 1:11:15Speaker 04

Microphones get really expensive. Microphones that sound as good as that microphone get way more expensive than that microphone. And I really appreciate that. Microphones that tend to be more expensive and higher quality than the Teenage Engineering mic tend to be a little bit harder to use. I'm not saying it's not expensive, but I'm saying every time you take that mic home and record a video on it, I go, "Hot diggity, what was that recorded on?" And you go, "The Teenage Engineering mic," and I go,

• 1:11:46Speaker 04

  you know?

• 1:11:47Speaker 01

Okay. I mean, it's good. It's the only Teenage Engineering product I use.

• 1:11:52Speaker 04

You've used products designed by Teenage Engineering before?

• 1:11:56Speaker 01

  Oh, in collaboration with-

• 1:11:57Speaker 04

  The ARM, the Nothingphones.

• 1:11:59Speaker 01

That's fair. What about this $250 toy car?

• 1:12:03Speaker 04

  Apparently, it's awesome.

• 1:12:07David Imel?

I want to use my perfectly hyped on this because I feel like every time you get in a teen engine engineering product, it's just so freaking awesome. Like they're so freaking cool and they like did create an aesthetic that everyone has been trying to copy forever. Like nothing is basically just trying to copy them.

• 1:12:24Speaker 03

They make so much more than I thought they did.

• 1:12:25David Imel?

They make a lot of stuff. Um, however, however, I do think people buy their products, like Adam did a whole video on this about how, you know, they, they intentionally limit the capabilities of their products. So they feel more like toys so that you experiment with them more, but you're not actually using them for real production, even if they, they could allow you to use it for real production and it would be incredible, but they don't on purpose because they want you to be more experimental, which makes me want to say it's overhyped only because people think that you can use them like a real sampler, like a real midi keyboard, that kind of stuff. But that's my only reason. Otherwise I think it's perfectly hyped.

• 1:13:08Speaker 03

Also, quick clarification, that video never got made.

• 1:13:10David Imel?

Oh, Adam almost made a whole video about.

• 1:13:14Speaker 03

That was right before we changed the whole strategy for studio.

• 1:13:16David Imel?

Oh, really? You should be a cut of that.

• 1:13:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:20David Imel?

Wow. Just put on your, you've just put on your YouTube channel.

• 1:13:24Speaker 01

You've used more teen engineering products than I think anyone else I know.

• 1:13:28Speaker 03

Don't try to spin this around on me. This is my game.

• 1:13:31Speaker 01

  So I'm just wondering.

• 1:13:31Andrew Manganelli?

  You're a reference for us.

• 1:13:33Speaker 01

If you have an opinion on it.

• 1:13:37Speaker 03

I have a hard time saying if it's overhyped or underhyped because I think they, they are the hype. They like, like people are excited for their things and they know what they're getting. They're not like scamming anyone.

• 1:13:49David Imel?

  That's what I'm saying. I think they're perfectly hyped.

• 1:13:51Speaker 01

  They might be, yeah.

• 1:13:51David Imel?

I think this might be our perfectly hyped. I think they are a singular entity. Nobody has, people have tried to copy them and nobody's done it correctly.

• 1:14:00Andrew Manganelli?

And they're not going around like trying to build their own hype, right? They're just like, we make our stuff and people like it.

• 1:14:04David Imel?

They release weird stuff too. It's like always out of left field.

• 1:14:08Speaker 01

I think then that specifically makes it appropriately hyped. If it's all organic hype and it's for people who know what it is and what they're getting. Then I say we spend our perfectly-

• 1:14:18David Imel?

Yeah, let's spend our perfectly hyped on the wooden box orchestra people.

• 1:14:22Speaker 03

  For $250 each.

• 1:14:25Speaker 01

But it'll be the best wooden box orchestra person you've ever held.

• 1:14:28David Imel?

The benefit of this is that nobody hyped this product, but they made it anyway, which I think makes it appropriately hyped.

• 1:14:33Speaker 01

  Fair enough.

• 1:14:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:34Speaker 03

  Perfect.

• 1:14:35David Imel?

  I'm so happy right now.

• 1:14:36Speaker 03

I'm so happy because the next thing on this list-

• 1:14:38David Imel?

  Oh no.

• 1:14:39Speaker 03

Is having a dedicated camera. Overhyped or underhyped?

• 1:14:43David Imel?

  Underhyped.

• 1:14:44Speaker 03

  You think it's underhyped?

• 1:14:46Speaker 04

  Overhyped.

• 1:14:46Speaker 03

I feel like we all now have like a dedicated little side camera-

• 1:14:50David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:50Speaker 03

  That we take-

• 1:14:51David Imel?

  Even the kids.

• 1:14:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:52David Imel?

They all have the Digicams now.

• 1:14:54Speaker 04

I have both of mine here today.

• 1:14:55Speaker 03

  Nice.

• 1:14:56David Imel?

Is he in the room with us right now?

• 1:14:59Speaker 04

I can go get them, but I don't think anyone cares.

• 1:15:01Speaker 01

  Um, is it?

• 1:15:02Speaker 03

  We have a whole-

• 1:15:03Speaker 01

Underhyped or overhyped? On carrying it, you're like carrying a separate camera here.

• 1:15:07Speaker 03

Yeah, like having a separate cam. Like my cousin now has his like house a lot too, so like everyone has a separate camera as well as their iPhone slash Android.

• 1:15:15Speaker 01

I think because of our, uh, yeah, because of our name of this game, it's not over underrated, it's over under hyped. And I feel like this has not that much hype.

• 1:15:26Speaker 03

  Yeah, agreed.

• 1:15:27Speaker 01

So I'd say it's definitely not-

• 1:15:28Speaker 03

There's whole YouTube channels that make a living off of this.

• 1:15:31Speaker 01

  Yeah, but they're not very-

• 1:15:32David Imel?

  Yeah, but they make-

• 1:15:32Speaker 01

  Popping.

• 1:15:34Speaker 04

I think carrying a dedicated camera is way-

• 1:15:36David Imel?

  Underhyped.

• 1:15:37Speaker 04

  Hyped.

• 1:15:38Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:15:38Speaker 04

  It's way-

• 1:15:39Speaker 03

  Dude.

• 1:15:39Speaker 01

  I'm not seeing that.

• 1:15:40David Imel?

  I'm not seeing that.

• 1:15:41Speaker 04

There are entire product categories in the dedicated camera space that are just like, this camera is like cheap enough, like you don't have to think about-

• 1:15:49Speaker 01

Yeah, like, but those are for, that's content for other photographers. You know? Like every time I have a camera out, someone goes, "Are you a photographer?" And it's like, well, everyone's a photographer if they just have a camera with them.

• 1:16:00David Imel?

  Whoa, bars.

• 1:16:01Speaker 04

I feel like the talk of the town for the past year has been like, you gotta get a Digicam, you gotta, you gotta get the new Fuji film.

• 1:16:08Speaker 01

Yeah, but that's just for the vibes.

• 1:16:09Speaker 04

You gotta have a dedicated camera.

• 1:16:10Speaker 01

But also, when you actually go out into the world, how many people actually have a dedicated camera? Not that many.

• 1:16:16Speaker 03

  Not for them.

• 1:16:17David Imel?

People talk about this a lot, but people don't actually do it that much.

• 1:16:19Speaker 01

But then everyone's Instagram post is a Polaroid dump. You ever notice that?

• 1:16:25Speaker 01

Everyone's Instagram post is 15 Polaroids for some reason.

• 1:16:28David Imel?

  Are they real?

• 1:16:29Andrew Manganelli?

I've done a lot of folly, family activities, and I have seen very few cameras.

• 1:16:37David Imel?

  Underhyped.

• 1:16:38Andrew Manganelli?

If that's anecdotal, but like if you could think of a position towards someone would bring a dedicated camera to, because I'm the turd there with it.

• 1:16:46Speaker 04

I do live in, as we would say, iPhone air territory, so maybe my perception is a little skewed.

• 1:16:53David Imel?

  iPhone airatory.

• 1:16:54Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:16:56David Imel?

  You know.

• 1:16:56Andrew Manganelli?

  David.

• 1:16:57David Imel?

  What?

• 1:16:58Andrew Manganelli?

When Kendall Jenner posted her picture with the contacts.

• 1:17:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:02Andrew Manganelli?

How difficult did it become to find the contacts?

• 1:17:05David Imel?

  Impossible.

• 1:17:05Andrew Manganelli?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 1:17:06David Imel?

Yeah, she overhyped the contacts T2.

• 1:17:08Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I think since then, film cameras in general have blown up.

• 1:17:12David Imel?

  Yeah, but then they also.

• 1:17:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Little Digicams have blown up.

• 1:17:14David Imel?

  They imploded again, though.

• 1:17:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:17:16David Imel?

The market did shrink. It took a little bit. The contacts is still too expensive, but it is freaking amazing.

• 1:17:23Speaker 04

  It's a great camera. Underhyped.

• 1:17:24Speaker 01

We're saying underhyped because we haven't seen this hype.

• 1:17:27Andrew Manganelli?

  I just don't think there's a.

• 1:17:28Speaker 01

Because it's not like a thing that everyone does.

• 1:17:30Andrew Manganelli?

It's hype enough for us to debate if it's underhyped or overhyped, but I think it's still in the underhyped category.

• 1:17:36Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah, I think it's underhyped.

• 1:17:38Speaker 04

Alright, so carrying a camera underhyped.

• 1:17:40Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:17:40Speaker 04

  Alright.

• 1:17:41Andrew Manganelli?

We're all still cool, I promise.

• 1:17:42Speaker 04

  Number.

• 1:17:47Speaker 04

  Number four. Live. Translation.

• 1:17:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Overhyped.

• 1:17:51Speaker 01

  Overhyped.

• 1:17:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Next.

• 1:17:54Speaker 01

Live. Here's Dell's advocate. The concept of live translation is we are imagining perfect live translation.

• 1:18:03David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:03Speaker 01

The products themselves are short of perfect, so like they're approaching this idea and then falling short. But the concept of perfect live translation and anyone on Earth being able to talk to anyone else on Earth fluidly and perfectly without having to think about it.

• 1:18:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:18Speaker 01

  Is pretty underhyped.

• 1:18:19Andrew Manganelli?

The concept of flapping my arms and flying is pretty awesome, too.

• 1:18:24Speaker 01

I think the fact that we're working on it and falling short of it makes it very clear that the products aren't all that they're cracked up to be. But the idea.

• 1:18:34Speaker 01

Of what they're working towards is amazing.

• 1:18:36David Imel?

The phrase "live translation" is a misnomer, too. Because it would only be live if you literally had a babblefish in your ear and you could directly understand what people were saying.

• 1:18:46Speaker 01

I mean, we're working towards that, yeah. The idea, though, is that you can get pretty close to that. Obviously, the tech's not there yet, but, you know, someone starts talking and it's in a language you don't know, and then, within a half a second, you start hearing the correct language.

• 1:18:59David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:00Speaker 01

  I mean, that...

• 1:19:01David Imel?

Okay, but we're talking about hype levels, though, right? And I feel like these companies...

• 1:19:07Speaker 01

The companies are hyping the idea.

• 1:19:08David Imel?

Have been hyping this idea for so long.

• 1:19:11Speaker 01

But they're hyping, uh, they're hyping the product, which falls short of the idea.

• 1:19:16David Imel?

Correct. Which is why it's overhyped.

• 1:19:18Speaker 01

  But the idea itself...

• 1:19:21Speaker 03

  Is like a humanoid robot.

• 1:19:22Speaker 01

Is not hyped as much as the product.

• 1:19:24Andrew Manganelli?

But I would say, right now, the fact that, like, seven different companies this year announced it in an announcement with a product that barely even does it...

• 1:19:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:19:33Andrew Manganelli?

Is like, that peak, overhyped tech stuff. And they're like, announcing a product that doesn't work.

• 1:19:38Speaker 01

They literally started talking about this during, like, the Pixel 1, with the original Pixel buds.

• 1:19:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:45Speaker 01

And they've said it every year, and I feel like if you hype something, and it doesn't live up to how you're hyping it, then it's overhyped.

• 1:19:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:54Speaker 01

Right? If they hyped it, and it was, like, better than they said, then it would be underhyped.

• 1:19:59David Imel?

Well, I mean, no product is ever, no tech product especially, is ever, like, better than they say it's going to be, I think, in my opinion. Only GTA 6.

• 1:20:07Speaker 01

Very rarely. But, yeah, I agree. I mean, my devil's advocate is, like, none of the products are good enough to consider them done yet, so we're still working towards this idea, and when we get there, it's gonna be amazing.

• 1:20:19Speaker 03

But what I can buy right now...

• 1:20:20Speaker 01

But what you can buy right now is overhyped.

• 1:20:22Speaker 03

  I mean, it's...

• 1:20:23Speaker 01

But is that what you're asking?

• 1:20:24David Imel?

You could say that about AI, too.

• 1:20:25Speaker 01

Is the, are we talking about the concept or the products that exist? Because you said "live translate."

• 1:20:29Speaker 03

  That's fair.

• 1:20:30Speaker 01

So when I hear you say...

• 1:20:31Speaker 03

Are we talking about concepts now?

• 1:20:32David Imel?

  Alice just said "live translation."

• 1:20:33Speaker 01

  Live translate.

• 1:20:34David Imel?

  As a concept.

• 1:20:34Speaker 01

  Next one, world peace.

• 1:20:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Overhyped.

• 1:20:39Speaker 01

Pretty hyped. Pretty hyped. So anyway, that's the angle I was coming at.

• 1:20:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Curing cancer.

• 1:20:44Speaker 01

The idea. But if we're saying the products that exist now, I agree, they're overhyped. Yeah, yeah.

• 1:20:49David Imel?

  Overhyped.

• 1:20:50Speaker 03

Overhyped? Okay, next on this list, the orange iPhone.

• 1:20:56David Imel?

  Overhyped.

• 1:20:56Speaker 01

  Overhyped.

• 1:20:58Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, as someone who loved it at first, it's overhyped. It's not as good as I thought it was gonna be.

• 1:21:04David Imel?

  Again, I'm glad they-

• 1:21:05Andrew Manganelli?

It's good. I agree. I'm glad they did it.

• 1:21:08Speaker 03

  You're glad they tried, but-

• 1:21:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:11Speaker 03

As Marquez holds up his orange iPhone.

• 1:21:13David Imel?

I've liked it more over time, to be honest.

• 1:21:15Speaker 03

I have too, but I'm not sure if that's just me falling for the marketing, because I do think that initially I was super hyped on the orange phone, then it came out and I didn't like it.

• 1:21:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:25Speaker 03

And as I see it more, I'm liking it again.

• 1:21:28David Imel?

Marquez is an orange iPhone owner. Have you liked it more or less?

• 1:21:33Speaker 01

Less than I thought I would.

• 1:21:34David Imel?

  Since it came out?

• 1:21:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:35David Imel?

  Okay.

• 1:21:36Speaker 01

I thought I would like it. It's not as orange as I was hoping, and the orange bleeding around the sides, you really have to commit to the orange.

• 1:21:41David Imel?

  For sure.

• 1:21:42Speaker 01

And I want to put a case and a skin on it so bad.

• 1:21:44Speaker 03

Wait, why'd you take off the half broken skin?

• 1:21:45Speaker 01

Because it was too thick and the buttons, it was annoying with the buttons. I'll probably do this again. I'll probably put a half a skin on my phone again, because I think that was kind of fire.

• 1:21:54David Imel?

  It's like denim, you know?

• 1:21:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:56David Imel?

  Spiderman 3.

• 1:21:56Speaker 01

Anyway, I wish they made a black one.

• 1:21:59David Imel?

  Symbiote.

• 1:21:59Speaker 01

  So, overhyped.

• 1:22:01David Imel?

  Overhyped.

• 1:22:02Speaker 03

Have to say it. Overhyped or underhyped Color OS?

• 1:22:08David Imel?

  Underhyped.

• 1:22:09Speaker 03

  Underhyped?

• 1:22:11Speaker 01

Well, it depends on who's doing the hyping. The company is hyping the hell out of it. But, sort of. The response from people is not as good.

• 1:22:19David Imel?

People are having an instinctual reaction because they think, because they remember a world where Oxygen OS was the best Android OS, and they're just mad about it going away in name, but Color OS and Oxygen are like the same OS now.

• 1:22:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:22:33David Imel?

  So-

• 1:22:33Speaker 01

But they're further from the original Oxygen OS we all loved.

• 1:22:36David Imel?

  By far, yeah.

• 1:22:36Speaker 01

They strayed and now it's all Color OS, basically.

• 1:22:39David Imel?

For sure. But it's still good.

• 1:22:41Speaker 01

  It's good.

• 1:22:42David Imel?

I think it's one of the best Chinese OSs.

• 1:22:47Speaker 03

I've watched so many videos on this and I am very intrigued to try ColorOS.

• 1:22:52David Imel?

  Remember Fun Touch?

• 1:22:54Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 1:22:54Speaker 01

Yeah, I think, you know what, I'm saying underhyped. I'm gonna say underhyped because in my using the OnePlus 15, if the cameras were good, would 100% daily that phone. And I was not annoyed by any of the software. I could easily just not use the annoying AI features or My In Space or whatever. I don't care about it. And like the aesthetics and stuff that's like kinda obviously copying iOS is what it is.

• 1:23:16David Imel?

Well, OnePlus 15 is still Oxygen though, right?

• 1:23:18Speaker 01

It's Oxygen, sorry, but it's basically ColorOS.

• 1:23:20David Imel?

  Are they basically the same?

• 1:23:21Speaker 01

They're basically the same thing. So like, I don't mind it. And the, so it would be the Oppo Find X9 Pro that had ColorOS. That's the last phone I used with that. It was fine. It was good. Lots of good features. It's very quick and responsive. Weird sounds, fine, whatever.

• 1:23:36David Imel?

Nothing like the Galaxy S3's water droplet sounds.

• 1:23:38Speaker 01

Yeah, the water droplet sounds, but I think in general, the amount of optimization and performance tuning that they do that people don't really talk about is underhyped.

• 1:23:47David Imel?

  I agree, underhyped.

• 1:23:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:50Speaker 03

  Andrew, what'd you say?

• 1:23:51Andrew Manganelli?

  I said underhyped.

• 1:23:52Speaker 03

Underhyped as well. Alright, all underhyped. Next, AI browsers.

• 1:23:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Overhyped.

• 1:23:57Speaker 01

  Overhyped.

• 1:23:58David Imel?

  Overhyped.

• 1:23:59Speaker 03

  Damn, that was fast, really?

• 1:24:00David Imel?

  Come on!

• 1:24:02Speaker 03

Everyone here uses, well, no, there's two types of people.

• 1:24:06Speaker 01

There's two types of people. There's people who don't know about or don't care about and don't talk at all about AI browsers. And then there's people who overhype AI browsers.

• 1:24:12David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:14Speaker 01

It's like, there's no nice balance in between, "Well, you know, I think I might sometime..." No, it's just people who are like obsessed with AI browsers. And I'm guilty. It's like all over my feed. It's clearly, it's clearly serving it to me. But they're, they're currently overhyped. But again, the idea... They could be. Yeah, I'm going overhyped.

• 1:24:34David Imel?

I don't know. The idea. Get it?

• 1:24:37Speaker 01

  Dia.

• 1:24:38David Imel?

Which, by the way, they are just like turning Dia into Ark.

• 1:24:41Speaker 01

  I am.

• 1:24:42David Imel?

It's such, and it's great. Every week, they're just like, "Here's another Ark feature."

• 1:24:46Speaker 01

As unfortunate as it was that I was wrong about Ark being still like a priority for them, it's so clear that they're just turning Dia into Ark and I'm happy with that.

• 1:24:54Speaker 03

And what's gonna happen when Dia has, when all of the Ark features are on Dia?

• 1:24:58Speaker 01

  Then I will be fulfilled.

• 1:24:59Speaker 03

  Ark will be, is gone.

• 1:25:00David Imel?

They will probably get rid of it.

• 1:25:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:25:03Speaker 03

  Lita.

• 1:25:03Speaker 01

So for those of you who were like me and were using Arc and switched to Dia because they had adopted enough of the Arc features. So they pin folders, Josh. You are probably going through the same emotional Arc as I am. Ayy. Because it's been slowly adopting, like the pin tabs look like Arc now and they're on their way. I need pin folders. Please, please.

• 1:25:26Speaker 04

Marquez, I think you're the only, or David, you've also spent some time with this product.

• 1:25:30Speaker 03

I can't wait to answer that.

• 1:25:31Speaker 01

  The Box Palma 2 Pro?

• 1:25:34Speaker 04

  The Xiaomi SU7.

• 1:25:37Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:25:38Speaker 04

Or is it SU7? Everyone around the office has been saying SU7.

• 1:25:41Speaker 01

It's SU. Like an SUV, but with a number. Yeah, it's SU7.

• 1:25:45Speaker 04

  Right?

• 1:25:46Speaker 01

Is it overhyped or underhyped? It is underhyped. It's underhyped for show.

• 1:25:51Speaker 03

  It's underhyped.

• 1:25:52Speaker 01

It is an incredible vehicle for an incredibly low price. And the thing is like, it's underhyped because people are never gonna buy it in many markets like here and it's unavailable and they don't know how good it is, which is why I think by definition it's underhyped. Well, it's underhyped in the United States. My question is, is this a popular product in China? Yes. Yes, it is. So then it's not underhyped in China? Well, it's correctly hyped in China. The market speaks for itself. Like people buy it, supply and demand are speaking for themselves and it's popular. Yeah. Everywhere outside of those available markets where it's unavailable, people have no idea how good it is. Yeah. So I think it's underhyped. That's fair. That's my logic.

• 1:26:28Speaker 03

Do we get a perfectly hyped and we got a correctly hyped in China too?

• 1:26:34Speaker 01

  In Minecraft.

• 1:26:35Speaker 03

I feel like every car person that I know and the few that I watch are super excited about that car. So I don't know if that it's underhyped.

• 1:26:45Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like it's hard to get really hyped about it though when.

• 1:26:48Speaker 01

  You can never get it.

• 1:26:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, we can't get it.

• 1:26:50Speaker 01

Yeah, because every non-car person has no idea how amazing it is.

• 1:26:53Andrew Manganelli?

  That's fair.

• 1:26:54Speaker 04

I haven't actually gotten to drive in it yet, but my experience with it was pretty, pretty weird. I'm not gonna lie, only because the

• 1:27:01Speaker 01

  As a passenger?

• 1:27:02Speaker 04

Yeah, cuz the two features I got to explore were the karaoke, which

• 1:27:06Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:27:06Speaker 04

I found bizarre. The song selection was really bizarre. No, no creed. No creed in the included.

• 1:27:13Speaker 01

  Overright.

• 1:27:14Speaker 04

But, and then in the backseat, the like, do yen on the, the screen.

• 1:27:20Speaker 01

  Tablet screen.

• 1:27:21Speaker 04

I found that incredibly off putting, just like endlessly in a, in a car scrolling through like Chinese thirst traps and live League of Legend competitions.

• 1:27:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27:32Speaker 04

  Why is this here?

• 1:27:33Speaker 01

There is a lot going on with the car and obviously Xiaomi is a company that makes smartphones and, and they are kind of like the LG or whatever of China. Like they make appliances, they make smart home security systems, they make

• 1:27:47Speaker 04

  Make everything.

• 1:27:48Speaker 01

Smartphones, obviously, and now they make this car. And so it kind of just, they just plugged into their ecosystem, like it works with everything.

• 1:27:54Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:27:54Speaker 01

And they have Xiaomi tablets in the backseats and it pairs with their Xiaomi phone and can have like modules attached to the screen and they attach, they connect to your, like there's, there's a lot going on. And you don't have to use any of it and you chose to use some of the weird parts, which is great. But I think like as a, as a vehicle, like as an owner, like as I'm dailying the thing, it's like it rides really well. It has good range. The software is super responsive. It's the biggest carplay I've ever seen. The speakers are amazing. It has active noise cancellation. Just like the things that make a car nice, build quality, materials, comfort, it's all there.

• 1:28:28Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:28:29Speaker 01

  It's, it's really good.

• 1:28:30Speaker 04

I kind of felt like when I was driving it in California, it felt like the combination between a Model S and a Porsche.

• 1:28:38Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:28:39Speaker 04

That was sort of my analogy.

• 1:28:41Speaker 01

  I think that's fair.

• 1:28:41Speaker 04

  Good save.

• 1:28:42Speaker 01

  Thanks.

• 1:28:44Andrew Manganelli?

Way cheaper than both of them.

• 1:28:45Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:28:46David Imel?

  Forty thousand dollars.

• 1:28:47Speaker 03

All right, so underhyped, sticking with it?

• 1:28:49David Imel?

  Yeah, I'm sticking with it.

• 1:28:50Speaker 03

  All right, next. Liquid glass.

• 1:28:54David Imel?

  Overhyped by Apple.

• 1:28:56Speaker 01

Yeah, that's the hard thing is.

• 1:28:57David Imel?

  By who?

• 1:28:58Speaker 01

Yeah. I don't think a lot of people are hyping liquid glass.

• 1:29:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:03Speaker 01

Apple's hyping liquid glass and then everyone's responding with not so hype.

• 1:29:08David Imel?

You know how I know it's overhyped? Because all of the designer people who are just like, love anything Apple does. Originally, when they first announced it was like, this is the greatest thing ever. And then after like one beta, they were like, oh my God. This is terrible. So.

• 1:29:26David Imel?

I mean, it's definitely not underhyped, geez.

• 1:29:29Speaker 01

  That's fair.

• 1:29:30Speaker 04

I kind of like it. I don't have it on my phone, I have it on my iPad, but.

• 1:29:35David Imel?

The only liquid glass feature that, there's two liquid glass features I like. I like that when you pull down the notification shade thing, it does that like distortion field over like whatever text you have. I love it. It's so fun.

• 1:29:48Speaker 01

  Every time, like.

• 1:29:49David Imel?

And then for the apps that support it, the like virtual glass tile that moves between the options, like I like that. But pretty much nothing else about that OS I actually enjoy. So.

• 1:30:02Speaker 01

  Never use it.

• 1:30:03David Imel?

Especially the fact that it destroys my battery life. I love that.

• 1:30:07Speaker 01

Not enough people talking about that.

• 1:30:09David Imel?

I'm gonna say overhyped because a lot of companies are like, changing the way that their apps work and look.

• 1:30:15Speaker 01

I feel like the YouTube player kind of looks a little bit liquid glassy now.

• 1:30:19David Imel?

Like a lot of other companies are shifting their designs more towards that.

• 1:30:22Speaker 01

  To be more glassy.

• 1:30:23David Imel?

  To be more.

• 1:30:24Speaker 01

Which is like, to be fair, it's more cohesive. But.

• 1:30:28David Imel?

Yeah. Is this the world we want?

• 1:30:30Speaker 01

  I don't think I need that.

• 1:30:31David Imel?

I would prefer skeuomorphism over this like hybrid skeuomorphism.

• 1:30:36Speaker 04

I think we're in too deep, dude.

• 1:30:37Speaker 01

I like flat white. We were, where we were at like five years ago. Well, I know that that's a drink or whatever. But I think where we were at like five to six years ago, where everything was like clean. And we overdid that too, obviously, there was like way too much blank space everywhere, but there was nice, clean, flat, 2D shapes. Everything was crisp and clean.

• 1:30:54David Imel?

What about like the original, what about the original? The original iOS and the original.

• 1:30:59Speaker 01

That like real material skeuomorphism? That was another vibe. You could get into that.

• 1:31:04David Imel?

  It's definitely a vibe.

• 1:31:05Speaker 01

I don't know if I was into that part.

• 1:31:06David Imel?

  I love it.

• 1:31:07Speaker 01

Where you open the books app and a shelf comes out of your iPhone. That was a choice. That was a choice.

• 1:31:12Speaker 04

Do you want to have fun in your life, Marquez? I think we're in too deep. Like, all the things we do on our phones now don't have non-phone analogs anymore. Yeah. You know? That's a good point. Like? Like what?

• 1:31:24David Imel?

  Like the save.

• 1:31:25Speaker 04

Like TikTok. Like scrolling. Like YouTube, like TV context, like barely made sense with the app icon, but like, what the, what the heck? In what other world are we like? That's fair. That's a good point.

• 1:31:36Speaker 01

You know what's very specifically, so just because you said TikTok, it reminded me, like, the swiping thing. It's just, it's just pains of videos and that's kind of boring, but Android's new, Android, what is this? 15? Android 15, Android 16. Android 16's new material three expressive where you, you pull a notification out from the group and swipe it away. The physics of it, I feel like they're objects. I really enjoy that specifically.

• 1:32:05Speaker 04

Before we leave this, Marquez, I did want to ask something specifically of you because you have seen K-pop Demon Hunters. This is like part of your new, I'm watching movies thing. I've only seen the first 30 minutes of it, but I wanted to ask you, did you notice in those first 30 minutes? I can't remember exactly how many there were, but how many horizontal or vertical wipes there were to get between scenes? Oh, no, I didn't notice. I was trying to guess if they did that on purpose to like fool TikTok addicted children into like maintaining attention. It felt like. Yeah. Did you notice that? It was visual cocaine. I think in the first three, 30 minutes, there were only like two or three times, but every single time I'd never seen a movie get from one scene to another by going and I was like.

• 1:32:47Speaker 04

Huh. I, I will probably watch it again. I didn't notice that.

• 1:32:54Andrew Manganelli?

Is it not kind of like comic booky of like swiping to a panel? Like, that's how I would imagine it. I haven't seen it.

• 1:33:00Speaker 04

In the comic book one, it's normally like a zoom out of a panel.

• 1:33:04Andrew Manganelli?

Like, I could see that or I could see a page swipe, but like I, you still, you know, panels.

• 1:33:10Speaker 04

  No, totally.

• 1:33:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Up and down also.

• 1:33:11Speaker 04

This is just how I interpreted watching the movie, going from like, you know, anyway. How many more do you guys want to do these? More.

• 1:33:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Two more?

• 1:33:19Speaker 04

  More.

• 1:33:21Speaker 04

  Let's do two more.

• 1:33:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Two more.

• 1:33:22Speaker 04

  Two more. AI notification summaries.

• 1:33:29David Imel?

  Wait.

• 1:33:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Like, if...

• 1:33:31Speaker 04

This is a universally hated feature.

• 1:33:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Alright, okay.

• 1:33:33Speaker 04

So if you find any value in them, then they become under...

• 1:33:36David Imel?

I don't think it's universally hated, because I just get really funny ones. Like, I just had one, and I just took a screenshot of.

• 1:33:43Speaker 01

This is the only thing they're good for.

• 1:33:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:45Speaker 01

Is the screenshots of when it messes up, and it's kinda funny.

• 1:33:47David Imel?

So it's my email app, right? And it's summarizing a bunch of emails, but for some reason, it gives like, a summarized subject that's trying to like, total all of the... You know, because it's like, "Marquez is angry about this and blank," right?

• 1:34:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:34:01David Imel?

This one is from Gmail. The headline is, the subject is, "This is going to be fun." And it says, "Credit card payment scheduled for $2,300." I was like, "Yeah." I love not having money.

• 1:34:14Speaker 01

  It's gonna be fun.

• 1:34:16David Imel?

  This is gonna be fun.

• 1:34:17Speaker 01

Jesus. Yeah. I, just for another anecdote, is when you're setting up a new iPhone now, it's one of the steps in the setup process, is do you want notification summaries?

• 1:34:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:29Speaker 01

  And I instantly hit no.

• 1:34:31David Imel?

Which, by the way, uh, news story we didn't cover today is that the Pixel is getting notification summaries.

• 1:34:36Speaker 04

That's exactly what I put it in here.

• 1:34:38Andrew Manganelli?

I've never tried it, so... I can't say anything.

• 1:34:41Speaker 01

Using a phone to me is managing your notifications. That is what using a phone is. I get notifications, I decide what to engage with and what not to, I dismiss some, I go into apps from some. It's like a launcher. And trying to like, distill that and summarize that is just not useful to me.

• 1:34:58David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:59Speaker 01

  That's all.

• 1:35:01Speaker 04

Can you prompt inject, uh, notification summaries? Has anyone tried this yet?

• 1:35:06Speaker 03

  I don't think I've input anything.

• 1:35:09Speaker 04

But if you sent a message that was like...

• 1:35:11Speaker 01

  That said a certain...

• 1:35:12Speaker 04

Yeah, it was like, "Ignore all previous instructions," you know?

• 1:35:15Andrew Manganelli?

It'd be a recipe for flan.

• 1:35:17Speaker 04

  Or...

• 1:35:17Speaker 03

It would just be a regular reply to whatever notification. No, but would the summary the other person get like, could you dictate what the summary says? By by wording a message in a specific way?

• 1:35:29David Imel?

I think the only reason notification summaries exists is because this was like one of the first use cases of AI and LLMs. Summarize the thing. They we we built the LLMs and everyone's like, quick, figure out what we can do with this. Figure it out. Figure it out. And that's why we got like image playground. That's why everything has a summarize button. They basically just gave us features that they could do, not that they should do. Yeah, so.

• 1:35:54Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 1:35:55David Imel?

That's why image playground exists too.

• 1:35:57Speaker 03

Speaking of which, wait, did we settle what what it was overhyped or underhyped?

• 1:36:00David Imel?

  It's over. Overhyped. Yeah.

• 1:36:02Speaker 03

All right. Next. Insane image generation.

• 1:36:08David Imel?

  What? Bro. Do you remember?

• 1:36:11Speaker 03

  Well, just image generation AI.

• 1:36:12David Imel?

Do you remember when they had like Google Deep Dream? Do you remember Google Deep Dream? No. This is like early Google image generation. No. And it was so insane, like pull up a couple of them. Yeah, it was like you were on like lots of drugs. It was like very acid induced. That was a much better image generation than what we have now.

• 1:36:33Speaker 03

I I miss Google Deep Dream.

• 1:36:35David Imel?

I miss that. Isn't that incredible? I think the fact that image playgrounds is pre installing iPhone is all we need to say. It's clearly overhyped. Yeah, it's overhyped. Does anybody ever use any of them? Also, it's bad for society, so very overhyped.

• 1:36:50Speaker 03

  All right, image generation, overhyped.

• 1:36:52David Imel?

  Sora.

• 1:36:53Speaker 03

  Simple.

• 1:36:53David Imel?

  Unanimous. That's like AI.

• 1:36:55Speaker 03

  By unanimous decision.

• 1:36:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:36:57Speaker 03

All right, then let's uh let's take it to trivia.

• 1:37:00David Imel?

The AI bubble. Underhyped. Hype the bubble, baby. Yeah, I love it. It literally looks like you're on trims. Do it in VR. Oh, God.

• 1:37:11Speaker 03

  Today's first trivia question.

• 1:37:13Speaker 04

Is a tale of three socks. Right. Specifically, I'm wondering which sock is the most expensive. Hit it, Adam. Wait, I need a pen. Where's my pen? The brand new in packaging, five pack of the 2004 iPod socks that sold yesterday on eBay. The short strap iPhone pocket sock. That is a really hard sentence to say. Or C, a pair of plain white men's socks from a fashion brand, Balenciaga. Note, these are plain white socks from Balenciaga, not the Cardi B mentioned Balenciagas that look like socks. What? Important distinction. Wait, what are those? Those are shoes.

• 1:37:57Speaker 04

  Oh, okay.

• 1:37:59Speaker 03

Flip him and read. What do you got?

• 1:38:01Speaker 04

Oh. We literally all put the, oh no, you guys put the same thing. Marquez and David, what did you guys put? Well. Well, I did put something different. So I put. Oh, everyone put something. Sorry. No, Marquez and I put the same thing. Yeah. Yeah. Which is? Which is? So I put A, which is the new inbox retro sock. Five socks. Unfortunately, those were sold for $81.99. That's way too high. David, you put? Balenciaga. Which sold for $130. Meaning this new iPhone pocket sock is the most expensive sock. And that's the least expensive out of the new expensive socks. Exactly. I'm buying me some Balenciagas, baby.

• 1:38:44Speaker 04

Those were prices per SKUs. If you adjust it for price per sock, it's still is the most expensive sock. Nice.

• 1:38:52Speaker 03

Quick update on the score. Marquez and Andrew tied with 10, David with 6. Come on, David, you got this. We were talking about hype fashion and tech collabs. Bathing Ape and Stash once collabed with which famous camera brand to launch a camera?

• 1:39:10Speaker 03

  Don't overthink it.

• 1:39:13David Imel?

Camera brand. High fashion. Adam. Adam.

• 1:39:20David Imel?

Bop it. This is my opportunity. He said, come on, David, and you give them hints. Come on.

• 1:39:28David Imel?

I only got one shot. All right. I don't want to miss my chance to blow. Mom spaghetti. Get ready to flip it and read. What do we got?

• 1:39:35Speaker 04

  I feel like, uh.

• 1:39:36David Imel?

  Guys.

• 1:39:36Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 1:39:39David Imel?

  Mark, what'd you put?

• 1:39:40Speaker 01

  Three of answers here.

• 1:39:41David Imel?

  I guess. Polaroid. Nope.

• 1:39:44Speaker 04

  Andrew.

• 1:39:45David Imel?

Why are you laughing at it? It's Bape. You don't even know what Bape is. How can you?

• 1:39:51Speaker 04

  I said Kodak.

• 1:39:52David Imel?

  Nope. David? What is it?

• 1:39:55Speaker 01

  Leica.

• 1:39:55David Imel?

  Correct.

• 1:39:57Speaker 01

Leica will just sell out anywhere, huh?

• 1:39:59David Imel?

Bro, have you seen the Seal Q2?

• 1:40:02Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:40:02David Imel?

The musician. What? Look it up. It's so ugly. It's all sequins. Look it up.

• 1:40:11David Imel?

It's that material when you go to Ross and they have those. The pillows that you can like carve a face in.

• 1:40:16Speaker 01

How much do they sell that for?

• 1:40:17David Imel?

It's like a lot of money. Yeah. Six thousand. Six thousand, however much the Q2 is. Yeah, or was.

• 1:40:23Speaker 01

You know, I've never shot, I've never actually, I don't think I've ever shot and owned with a Leica. So the only Leicas I've ever used are like Huawei phones, basically. And that's where all of my knowledge of Leica comes from. So.

• 1:40:35David Imel?

Leica has done a lot of.

• 1:40:36Speaker 04

Awesome about you completely hurdling over the Leica price point and going straight. Going straight to, no, to Hasselblad as a camera owner.

• 1:40:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:40:46David Imel?

Yeah. The Hasselblad's cheaper than Leicas. No, that's what I'm, oh.

• 1:40:50Speaker 01

  Hassel, yeah, they're both.

• 1:40:51David Imel?

  The new.

• 1:40:52Speaker 01

  Pretty expensive.

• 1:40:52David Imel?

The new Hasselblad is cheaper than pretty much every, every main full frame Leica. Is that true? Yes.

• 1:40:59Speaker 04

They did a Lenny Kravitz collaboration.

• 1:41:01David Imel?

  Oh, I gotta see this.

• 1:41:03Speaker 04

  It's snake skin and brown.

• 1:41:05David Imel?

  I love that. Incredible.

• 1:41:06Speaker 01

Well, hey, like I said, if we don't get points, we will at least learn something. And I have learned so much about Leica in the last five minutes. Thank you guys for watching and for staying tuned and for, of course, enabling all the amazing numbers we got to talk about, but also just for subscribing and for, uh, for hanging out with us. So we'll see you guys next week. Peace.

• 1:41:26David Imel?

  Goodbye.
