Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by

• 1:23Speaker 02

Oh yeah, the regulator clock is the thing that the planets check when they're making sure they're like doing their orbits correctly.

• 1:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Are the planets genlocked?

• 1:32Speaker 01

  Damn, that's a good question.

• 1:34Speaker 02

You gotta laugh for back there.

• 1:36Andrew Manganelli?

  I can't tell everything's...

• 1:38Speaker 01

  That's hilarious.

• 1:44Speaker 01

Yo, what is good, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm Marquez.

• 1:50Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:50Speaker 01

And I'm David. And we're coming at you live. Not really, but I like saying it. We're coming at you live from... It's live right now. It's live for us. Yeah. Yeah, from Apple Park. This is, we're recording this on Wednesday like usual, and if you remember what happened this week as you listened on Friday, Tuesday, yesterday for us, was the... September Apple event. So that's most of what we have thoughts on and what we're going to be talking about this week. Uh, you can see that Adam and Ellis are over here at a really tall, professional looking desk. No, we're just standing. I don't know how I feel about both of you having microphones, but it is a new look. It is weird. My favorite thing is that I am now like two feet above both of all of you. So I can just stare down at all of you guys. Yeah, you're kind of staring us down up there, but yeah, we do.

• 2:36Speaker 01

We have a lot of stuff to go through. You may have already watched the impressions videos and the things we've posted about the various iPhone 17s, AirPods, watches. Now we can get into the weeds on thoughts and conspiracy theories and reactions and things that we all have experienced. Uh, with, with this new stuff. Cam trail. Where do we begin?

• 2:58Andrew Manganelli?

All right. I, I think we should begin. The first thing I want to ask is, so some of you guys were at the event. Some of us watched the live stream.

• 3:04Speaker 01

  Right.

• 3:05Andrew Manganelli?

I heard there were three good mornings.

• 3:07Speaker 01

Yeah. So, so this is a little thing. Some people may know or may not know that, you know, when you watch the keynote online, you see the pre-recorded video. When you go to an Apple event, specifically like the September event like we were at, or WWDC, they play that video for all of us. But if it's a nine o'clock event, right at about eight 59, usually Tim Cook, an Apple executive, comes on stage and goes, hey, welcome to the event and like warms up the crowd. And then they play the. For like 15 seconds. So what happened was Tim Cook, yeah, came out, you know, a minute before the start time. He hit us with a triple good morning. Good morning. True. And was, you know, this is very big day for the iPhone, things like that. Triple tap. And then they played the video for us. So yeah, we got a triple.

• 3:52Andrew Manganelli?

The triple good morning sounds like a great way to start the morning.

• 3:54Speaker 01

You put that into Slack and I was very upset because I was waiting for the good mornings and we didn't see it in the stream. Yeah, only the, yeah, theater got the triple.

• 4:01Speaker 03

  We got some recordings.

• 4:02Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 4:02Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. I also want to start off before we get into any of the products. The opening scene of this event, I think was one of my favorites in a few years. Apple loves transitions. They love opening scenes. They love montages. This was like a really simple product focused one that started with like a bunch of different circular pieces of products or UI elements that then went into squirls, like the Mac Studio, and then went into hearts and all these different things in the, I think my favorite transition was a. Like robot shot down into a MagSafe charger, which opened and then the pins turned into the typing indicator of like iMessage. And then I think that turned into Dynamic Island with like AirPods connecting.

• 4:44Andrew Manganelli?

Usually in the past, it's like all these different setups of people using Apple products and it's whatever. But I thought this one was like product focused and really cool way of seeing all their different, you know, things that happen in software and products together in these awesome match cuts.

• 4:59Speaker 01

Yeah, it was a nice design homage.

• 5:01Andrew Manganelli?

It was a really good design homage.

• 5:02Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, then they basically got right into it with the products after that.

• 5:06David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:07Speaker 01

  So.

• 5:07David Imel?

  There are many products.

• 5:08Speaker 01

There's a bunch of different orders we could do this. You want to do like the small ones first and then the phones after?

• 5:12David Imel?

  I think so.

• 5:13Speaker 01

  Retentions.

• 5:14David Imel?

I wouldn't even say that they're necessarily small.

• 5:17Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 5:17David Imel?

Because the AirPods Pro 3, I did get to try at the event.

• 5:20Speaker 01

  All right, let's start there.

• 5:21Andrew Manganelli?

They are smaller than the iPhone.

• 5:22David Imel?

Amazing. They are smaller than the iPhone.

• 5:24Andrew Manganelli?

  They are.

• 5:25David Imel?

Um, they're not as thin as the iPhone Air, which we'll get into later. Uh, yeah, let's start with AirPods Pro 3.

• 5:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:31David Imel?

So obviously we had AirPods Pro 2 for a very long period of time. And they finally introduced the 3, which I don't think anyone was really expecting, maybe a smaller case.

• 5:41Andrew Manganelli?

I thought you were expecting them.

• 5:43David Imel?

Well, we were expecting like a slightly smaller case for AirPods. We didn't know whether or not they were actually going to be like redesigned in any given way. But they are actually quite redesigned. I mean, they look mostly the same, but the shape of the bulb is actually quite different.

• 5:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:58David Imel?

And the way that it fits in your ear is also different. And you know, every single year that they they go through this whole thing where they say, we measured and scanned 10,000 people's ears. And I'm like, damn, every year people's ears are changing size apparently.

• 6:12David Imel?

But one of the biggest things probably is that they now have this like, they have a new ear tip that's a hybrid foam design.

• 6:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:19David Imel?

So it has foam on the inside, but it still uses the silicone on the outside.

• 6:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:23David Imel?

Which is kind of interesting. And obviously that should be helping with sound isolation. They quote 2X better ANC over AirPods Pro 2.

• 6:31Speaker 01

  That's a lot.

• 6:33David Imel?

  It is a lot.

• 6:34Speaker 01

Because AirPods Pro 2 have quite good ANC, I would say.

• 6:37David Imel?

  Yeah. It was.

• 6:39Speaker 01

  For earbuds?

• 6:40David Imel?

  I don't know.

• 6:41Speaker 01

  I think they're.

• 6:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Pretty good.

• 6:42David Imel?

I've been using the Bose a lot and they're just like not really comparable.

• 6:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Sure, sure.

• 6:46David Imel?

Yeah, but also I believe in Ellis can can kind of like fact check this, but I believe that sound is like logarithmic, right? So like a 2X increase in ANC, wouldn't that just be like 3 dB?

• 6:58Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, man. Here goes. Our timer's ticking right now.

• 7:03Speaker 02

  Well, it's like, you know.

• 7:05David Imel?

  It's like perceived loudness?

• 7:06Speaker 02

They could have meant like, so, oh, man.

• 7:09Andrew Manganelli?

  You're doing great, sweetie.

• 7:10David Imel?

  I'm sorry.

• 7:11Speaker 02

If they meant two times the frequency bandwidth, you know, ANC is really hard to do on high frequencies. So maybe they meant that you can go twice as high and there's plenty of ways that could work. But yeah, like sound, like the way you measure all energy is on a logarithmic scale. So if they meant two times as much volume of noise cancelling.

• 7:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:30Speaker 02

That would be 3 dB, which, um, yeah.

• 7:33David Imel?

  It's something.

• 7:34Speaker 02

  It's something.

• 7:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:35Speaker 02

It's something. I would say it's like something that probably like 50% of people would be able to notice.

• 7:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:39Speaker 02

But I don't know if that's what they meant.

• 7:40David Imel?

Well, they said that they had like also increased AI algorithms to like, you know, know the noise around you and try to cancel that out. And I had my AirPods Pro 2 with me and they had demo units of their AirPods Pro 3. It was actually very funny. They walked around with this little case.

• 7:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, we heard.

• 7:53David Imel?

They kind of look like chocolates.

• 7:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Like hors d'oeuvres.

• 7:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:55Andrew Manganelli?

hors d'oeuvres. Did you take one?

• 7:58David Imel?

  Yeah, I took one.

• 7:58Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. Well, they do that though, so they can clean the air tips, right?

• 8:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:01Andrew Manganelli?

Cause then not everyone's sharing them on it. But it is funny to think about like.

• 8:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Uh, passing hors d'oeuvres.

• 8:06David Imel?

Yeah. I had my AirPods Pro 2 with me and so I was able to do like a direct comparison between mine and the 3.

• 8:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 8:13David Imel?

And the 3, I would say the the biggest thing was that it was able to actually see, like, hear the noise around it and cancel it out much more evenly. Cause I put mine in and the ANC was like fighting, trying to understand the noise around me because there's all these voices and it was so loud and I was playing music and it just couldn't, it couldn't cancel everything out clearly. Whereas you put the 3 in and they've got the different design bulbs, so they sit differently in your ear and they're tighter in your ear. But everything just kind of goes like.

• 8:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:41David Imel?

It's And it was surprisingly good.

• 8:43Speaker 01

It seems like that's gonna be the, uh, well, we can get into the other features, but the most noticeable thing, the better cancellation, plus the better tips should help them fit in your ear better. Plus, the angle that they go into your ear is a little bit different.

• 8:54David Imel?

It's more into your canal, yeah.

• 8:56Speaker 01

Yeah, combined should help them sound better, especially with A and C on.

• 8:59David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 9:00Speaker 01

There's a couple of other things, too.

• 9:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 9:02Speaker 01

IP57 for the first time. I kinda actually thought they already had an IP rating, but IP57 for the first time in AirPods Pro 3, and the case is also sweat resistant, so if you sweat a lot, rest assured. Uh, and then also, uh, heart rate sensor.

• 9:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 9:15Speaker 01

So, we just saw this in the PowerBeats Pro. This is slightly different because the sensor's smaller and the buds themselves are smaller, but same idea, which is if you don't have something else measuring your heart rate and you wanna do a workout and measure your heart rate, the earbuds will be your heart rate monitor. Which, I don't know how accurate that is, but it seems like if you have both a watch and the, uh, headphones, it will pick whichever one is most accurate at that time. It doesn't tell you which one you're using, but...

• 9:42David Imel?

I believe it uses like both together and then sort of takes like an average.

• 9:45Speaker 01

  Probably some algorithmic magic, yeah.

• 9:47Andrew Manganelli?

I also, my kind of theory, and Apple's not doing a ring, so it doesn't fit with just Apple, but I feel like more heart rate sensors in other places are so people can start wearing normal watches again. There's, I think there's a lot of watch fans out there.

• 10:00Speaker 03

  Let's go.

• 10:01Andrew Manganelli?

Like Adam over there, who want to wear the like, watch collection, but still want to be able to track certain health metrics.

• 10:06Speaker 03

Yeah, just give me like a whoop thing in a trail loop.

• 10:09Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I mean, now if you're running in your headphones, you can still get all your

• 10:12David Imel?

  Right.

• 10:13Andrew Manganelli?

information and wear your normal watch.

• 10:15Speaker 03

Yeah, but if it's anything like, I think it was the Beats that did this, wasn't it? That had the heart rate sensor in it? People were testing it between the headphones and the watch, and it's like, I'd rather use the watch. It's not like the Beats were like terrible or anything, it's just the watch was more accurate.

• 10:29Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Do we know if it's more accurate?

• 10:31Speaker 03

Well, people were wearing like chest straps and multiple watches and running and using the chest strap as the default, and then comparing all of them.

• 10:37Speaker 01

Uh, this is the thing, and this is me not really knowing that much about it, but I feel like the watch has so many generations to improve and get more accurate and calibrate. Even though the back of the wrist isn't the best place to measure your heart rate, they've gotten it pretty good over the years, and I suspect that this will also get better over the years. But as of right now, it's just like, you either have it or you don't, so you... It's nice to have it.

• 10:57David Imel?

Yeah, they have these two little windows on the AirPods now that basically shine infrared light like into your like ear area.

• 11:04Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 11:05David Imel?

And it measures 256 times a second to measure light absorption in your blood flow.

• 11:10Speaker 02

I think they've had those forever because the the skin detection has been optical since I want to say the first Pros, but.

• 11:17Andrew Manganelli?

Was it not them that we were testing like what objects inside the office would trick it as skin and the like the.

• 11:24Speaker 02

There were almost no objects in our studio that it we could fool it with skin like even like leather or like other organic materials. There was like a handful of like silicone sort of things that we could fool it into thinking was skin.

• 11:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:36Speaker 02

But other than that, the optical stuff is pretty good.

• 11:39David Imel?

Yeah. They they also have increased battery life now. So eight hours of ANC versus the previous six, they made a big deal about saying you can now do a transatlantic flight.

• 11:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:49David Imel?

So you can fly from New York to California and not have your AirPods time.

• 11:52Speaker 02

  Nope.

• 11:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Wait, that's not transatlantic.

• 11:54Speaker 01

  New York.

• 11:57Speaker 01

It sounds like a lot of Apple employees do the New York to London flight and they just wanted to be able to get there.

• 12:02David Imel?

Is that like five and a half hours?

• 12:03Speaker 01

It's probably a little longer than trans American flight.

• 12:08David Imel?

Oh, you're right. Transatlantic, transcontinental. Yeah.

• 12:13Speaker 01

  Well, that's nice.

• 12:13David Imel?

I mean, now eight hours can do New York to San Francisco.

• 12:18Speaker 01

  And back.

• 12:19Speaker 02

  What?

• 12:20David Imel?

  What?

• 12:20Andrew Manganelli?

No. I wish. I wish we got back in two hours tomorrow.

• 12:24Speaker 01

I mean, if you if you wait while you're taking off.

• 12:27Speaker 02

We don't understand planes on this podcast. How do planes stay up?

• 12:33David Imel?

  We've established this.

• 12:34Andrew Manganelli?

On top of that, it's also 10 hours on a single charge with transparency mode, which is four more than previously.

• 12:40David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 12:40Andrew Manganelli?

So if you want to listen to everyone on a flight across twice, then you can do that.

• 12:45David Imel?

  Absolutely not.

• 12:46Speaker 01

Yeah, the price the price stays the same. So overall, it looks like a pretty solid update. There's also a new live translation feature. It is not an AirPods 3 exclusive.

• 12:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 12:55Speaker 01

It is a H2 dependent, but they are claiming to be able to do live translation with powered by Apple Intelligence.

• 13:03Speaker 02

He's looking dead into my soul.

• 13:05Speaker 01

Just curious if anyone has any thoughts about that.

• 13:08David Imel?

I'll believe it when I see it.

• 13:09Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 13:10Andrew Manganelli?

It was a really quick demo. It felt sandwiched between like an IP rating and a silicon tipped announcement, which felt really quick.

• 13:18Speaker 01

As as cringey as Google's event was with the Jimmy Fallon experience, blah, blah, whatever, them doing that live translation demo like for an audience that was there was much more technically challenging than Apple just showing us a video of it working. Because how many times have we seen a demo of an Apple Intelligence feature?

• 13:33David Imel?

  Dead into my eyes.

• 13:34Speaker 01

No, no, no, this is, I'm talking about like, Apple.

• 13:36David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 13:37Speaker 01

Doing a video about an Apple Intelligence feature and showing it to us and being like, see? Trust us, it'll work.

• 13:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 13:43Speaker 01

  Versus a live demo.

• 13:44David Imel?

Also, the video of it working, Apple really still has not gotten that natural voice down on the like Siri and the translation stuff. Like, Google has this very sort of natural tone and like cadence to the translation features. But when it showed it on the video, the Apple video, it sounded very robotic.

• 14:02Speaker 01

  Like robo Siri.

• 14:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 14:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:03David Imel?

And it takes a while. I don't know how they're measuring live, because you know, you finish your sentence, it's like, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. And then it starts talking. And I know that's just waiting for you to finish talking, but if you're having a conversation like that, it's pretty slow paced.

• 14:17Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, we will definitely try it. This is a first gen. I do lots of these live translation things are first gen. We want to see if they work, but it does feel a little bit magical.

• 14:25David Imel?

I need a babble fish directly in my ears, so that everything just comes out in English.

• 14:30Speaker 01

Well, new, new watch, watches as well.

• 14:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Watches.

• 14:36Speaker 01

Uh, watch, Series 11, watch SE3 and Ultra 3.

• 14:41David Imel?

These are probably the least changed products of the entire.

• 14:45Speaker 01

  They're definitely the least changed.

• 14:46David Imel?

  Lineup.

• 14:47Speaker 01

  The whole lineup.

• 14:48David Imel?

The watches never changed that much. I mean, last year, we got a thinner watch with the Series 10. The 10 like looked noticeably different than all the other ones in a cool way. For sure. Yeah, it was much thinner and and all that, but like, Series 11. It's introducing features that are also coming to the older watches, so it's not that different. The main things on the Series 11 are they made the glass 2X as scratch resistant, just like they do for all the glass every single year.

• 15:13Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 15:13David Imel?

They added 5G connectivity if you want that for some reason.

• 15:19Speaker 01

It's slightly more efficient than the 4G.

• 15:21David Imel?

Yeah, probably the biggest upgrade honestly is that the battery life is now quoted at 24 hours instead of 18.

• 15:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:28David Imel?

So that's, you know, it can last you a full. Even more all day. Even more all day.

• 15:33Speaker 01

  All all day.

• 15:34David Imel?

All all day, exactly all day battery life.

• 15:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:37David Imel?

  Um, same price, $3.99.

• 15:40Speaker 01

You know, now that I'm thinking about it, every single product that we're talking about today got a bump up in battery life, except for the one that's new, which is the Air. Well, you can't bump up something that's new. Right, I'm just saying, everything else got better battery and then they were like, also here's the Air.

• 15:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 15:55Speaker 01

We'll get there. Marcus is trying to just skip all of our notes. No, we'll get there. But I am like happy to see good battery stuff.

• 16:02David Imel?

Yeah, that's, yeah, so that's most of the stuff in the Series 11. Next thing, Ultra 3, um, you now get the wide-angle OLED that you got in the Series 10 on the Ultra 3.

• 16:13Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 16:14David Imel?

You now get satellite connectivity if you're, uh, you know, out in the Alps and you break your leg. Bigger display. Uh, yeah, okay, so they said this, this was confusing.

• 16:24Speaker 01

  Smaller bezels. Bigger bezels, yeah.

• 16:26David Imel?

But the thing is with the Series 10, they had smaller bezels that made a bigger display, but they quoted the display as being physically larger. But I looked at all the specs and the display is quoted as being the same size.

• 16:38Speaker 01

It's probably not more than a tenth of an inch bigger. It's probably technically slightly larger, but not enough for them to write a different number. But yeah, I mean it's.

• 16:47David Imel?

But they will still say it's bigger.

• 16:48Speaker 01

Yeah, they'll say it's bigger for the keynote, but let's be real, the Ultra 3 is very similar. It actually also has a slight battery bump from a slightly larger physical capacity battery inside, which again, thumbs up to that, uh, they're rating it.

• 17:01David Imel?

  Forty-two.

• 17:01Speaker 01

  Forty-two hours, very nice.

• 17:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 17:04Speaker 01

And same price and everything, but yeah, otherwise basically the same thing.

• 17:07David Imel?

Yeah, yeah, so SE3 is actually probably the biggest watch update.

• 17:14Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, sorry, can I go back on one thing?

• 17:15David Imel?

  Yes.

• 17:15Andrew Manganelli?

Is this difference in satellite connectivity this year that it was only emergency SOS before?

• 17:20David Imel?

  Yes.

• 17:20Andrew Manganelli?

And now it's adding things like...

• 17:21David Imel?

Now you can do like iMessage and Find My and stuff like that.

• 17:24Andrew Manganelli?

That's cool. I think that is a pretty sweet upgrade.

• 17:25Speaker 02

I actually have a satellite iMessage story.

• 17:28Andrew Manganelli?

  From someone we met yesterday?

• 17:29Speaker 02

No, from my own, from my, get this, I have a life. It's sick.

• 17:34Andrew Manganelli?

It goes to a different school.

• 17:35Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 17:36David Imel?

It's like seeing your teacher at the grocery store.

• 17:37Speaker 02

Someone very special to me was doing some hiking in sort of like the Kings, yeah. What they were doing, not out of, was doing Kings Canyon, hiking Kings Canyon a few weeks ago and wait, you know, no service anywhere out there in the back country. And it was very, very nice to get like a once a day, just like, hey, still alive, this is what we did today, blah, blah, blah. And it was also kind of fun to, this is gonna sound crazy, to have a character limit in your texts again. Like, it really made, you wanted to like max it out, but because my phone belongs in a retirement home, after she got back to civilization and had service again, my phone would not believe that she was still not on satellite connectivity.

• 18:20Speaker 02

And so every time I tried to send a text in just like normal life, I had the four or 500 character limit and it wouldn't let me send pictures and, and this is like for a week.

• 18:28David Imel?

  I know.

• 18:28Speaker 02

And, and the funniest part was every time I would send a text, it would be like, just, you know, this is a satellite text. Like, it's gonna go through that whole thing. It would try, the satellite would fail and then it would just send as a

• 18:40Speaker 02

but if I tried to send a picture, it'd be like, yeah, they're on satellite, like, nothing you can do.

• 18:43Speaker 03

While we're on the topic of your phone, what's your battery life right now?

• 18:46Speaker 02

  Ooh, prices right rules?

• 18:48Andrew Manganelli?

If the new satellite connectivity, you can do location also, right?

• 18:52David Imel?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 18:53Andrew Manganelli?

On the watch, which was not available previously.

• 18:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:56Speaker 02

Guys, my phone had, this is so, my phone has been unplugged for approximately three hours. What is my battery life?

• 19:05Speaker 01

  Forty-five.

• 19:06Speaker 02

  Forty-five?

• 19:06David Imel?

  Forty-seven.

• 19:07Speaker 02

  Forty-seven?

• 19:08Speaker 01

  Forty-eight.

• 19:08Speaker 02

Forty-eight. Damn, gotta give me a little more credit than that, guys.

• 19:11David Imel?

I think I was gonna say fifty-five, but...

• 19:12Speaker 02

  It's fifty-four.

• 19:14David Imel?

  You've been overpriced, is right.

• 19:15Speaker 01

  No, I would've lost. See, that's why I did forty-eight.

• 19:18David Imel?

  Yeah, you actually did win.

• 19:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 19:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 19:21Speaker 02

The SOS thing is free for the first two years.

• 19:23David Imel?

For the first two years. They also extended the emergency SOS from the original Ultra for another year for people.

• 19:28Speaker 02

  Oh, nice.

• 19:29David Imel?

  The satellite.

• 19:31Speaker 02

Do they have pricing on what that's gonna be?

• 19:33Speaker 01

  No.

• 19:33David Imel?

  No.

• 19:34Speaker 02

  Cool.

• 19:34Speaker 01

  No.

• 19:35David Imel?

  No.

• 19:35Speaker 01

And I think there's some Apple person like kicking that can down the road. Every time it comes up to the end of the year, they're like...

• 19:41David Imel?

  Another one.

• 19:41Speaker 01

I don't like the way the headphones, the headlines look with me like deciding saving your life is worth twenty-nine dollars or something. So I'll just, another year, free.

• 19:50David Imel?

On the note of saving your life.

• 19:51Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 19:52David Imel?

This, this montage at the beginning of the Apple Watch segment was the most you're gonna die if you don't have an Apple Watch the Apple's ever done.

• 19:59Speaker 01

I believe they used the phrase guardian angel at some point. Did they not?

• 20:04David Imel?

  I don't know.

• 20:05Speaker 02

I don't really have that in my mind.

• 20:06Speaker 01

I was watching the keynote, I was like, they do this every year. They're like, if you have the watch, you won't die. If you don't have the watch, you'll die. And they get a little bit more sappy every year. Oh, I fell, I was in a car crash or whatever. This one was just straight up like,

• 20:20David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 20:20Speaker 01

I had a stroke and here's the footage. And like, and like all these like really dramatic stories, which are very compelling and they make people get the watches and they do save lives. And one of these features with hypertension, it will save more lives.

• 20:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 20:33Speaker 01

But this video was, they were the most leaned in I've seen.

• 20:37Speaker 02

But it is, it is, it is a nice departure in tone, because I don't know if you guys remember the cinematic for the first Watch Ultra,

• 20:44David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 20:44Speaker 02

  like a few years ago.

• 20:45David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 20:45Speaker 02

Where the, the, the, the message wasn't this will save your life. It was like, you will die, your bones will be dust, your flesh will be incinerated and your Watch Ultra will outlive you.

• 20:56Speaker 01

What was the one where there was like a bear?

• 20:58David Imel?

  The bear.

• 20:58Speaker 01

  Inside the cabin.

• 20:59David Imel?

I was just gonna bring that up there. No, it's so funny because for all of these, all of these things, they reenact the situation.

• 21:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:05David Imel?

And the bear one was the funniest one where like a bear broke into a woman's home and she has to like hide in the other room and they like reenacted the whole thing.

• 21:13Speaker 01

  Graphic Park.

• 21:13David Imel?

This one was so weird. This one was so weird because they had like, the guy had a stroke. He was like doing jumping jacks or something. He just falls on the ground.

• 21:20Speaker 02

  Jumping rope. Hey, hey.

• 21:23Speaker 01

I do not see guardian angel, by the way.

• 21:25David Imel?

  That was the guardian angel?

• 21:26Speaker 01

No, I do not see guardian angel. They didn't say that? No. Okay, I'm imagining it? Yeah, maybe. They said something like that. It was accepted into your brain. I remember pausing at a certain phrase that they used and being like, wow, they're all in on this.

• 21:37David Imel?

They use the sad music for hardcore, hardcore.

• 21:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:41David Imel?

Okay, but SE3, um, probably the biggest update to the Apple Watch, um, the lineup this year.

• 21:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:48David Imel?

Because they basically made it almost as good as the Series 11. There's a chart that shows the differences between it and the Series 11, and it's not a lot of stuff.

• 21:56Speaker 01

It's like the slightly older design. But you still get always on display. It's still an OLED. It's still, it does the gesture response now. It has 5G. It has a new system on chip. I think it's the S9, I believe.

• 22:10David Imel?

  The S10.

• 22:11Speaker 01

  S10 now?

• 22:12David Imel?

Yeah. It's the same chip as the Series 11.

• 22:14Speaker 01

24 hours of battery as well. So functionally, it's gonna feel like all of the basics are there. And unless you want the like bleeding edge, brand new design, this is probably the one to get.

• 22:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:25Speaker 01

  And it's cheap.

• 22:26David Imel?

Yeah, it doesn't get quite as bright, but it has the stronger glass. It has fast charging now. It has like the double tap and wrist flicks.

• 22:32Andrew Manganelli?

Gestures and you can play media from speakers now.

• 22:34David Imel?

Yeah, great. Yeah. Who wants that?

• 22:37Andrew Manganelli?

I love hearing that when I'm on a nice quiet hike and someone passes.

• 22:41Speaker 02

Now, when you're on a run and your music goes, yo, yo, yo, as your arms swing.

• 22:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:48David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:48Speaker 01

But yeah, this is, I think it's still 249, right?

• 22:51David Imel?

Yeah, 249. It's good. So we weren't correct in that it's plastic because it's not plastic. They're just using the old aluminum design, but.

• 22:58Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 22:58David Imel?

Yeah, I think that's gonna be big for a lot of people.

• 23:00Speaker 01

  Like the slightly less thin.

• 23:02David Imel?

Yeah, you don't get quite as thin.

• 23:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:04Andrew Manganelli?

There is one thing we missed on all of these. Sleep score.

• 23:07Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 23:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:09Speaker 01

Right. So there are two new features that are not specific to the new watches, but that are new. One of them is hypertension detection, possible hypertension detection. It's just looking at.

• 23:20David Imel?

  Possible.

• 23:21Speaker 01

Your heart information, collecting data in a new way that may be able to alert you if you have signs consistent with hypertension, which is a very popular thing to have. So.

• 23:30Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know if that's how I would describe.

• 23:34Speaker 02

High blood pressure is really in right now.

• 23:37David Imel?

We're not wrong. You're not wrong.

• 23:40Andrew Manganelli?

  My doctor said too.

• 23:41Speaker 01

  But the other thing.

• 23:44Speaker 01

So, so Vogue. But the other thing is a sleep score. Yeah, it's fine. It never gave you a sleep score. It would tell you all about your sleep, but never just gave you a sleep score. Now they're gonna give you a number one through 100 and they'll break it down in like duration, consistency, and one other factor and you can give a, you can get a like nice brief overview of like, how did I sleep? Oh, 94. Okay, nice. Like, that was a good night. And that's new to the Apple Watch.

• 24:06Andrew Manganelli?

I just thought of that. They should add that to the rings and competitions so we could be-

• 24:11David Imel?

  Sleep better?

• 24:12Andrew Manganelli?

Cause like, well, cause all of us make the competition so toxic. That I know we're all destroying our sleep also. If it kept, if it had, if it had the slept as a ring, then maybe we would all be a little healthier.

• 24:25David Imel?

A sleep ring is probably, would probably be better than the freaking standing ring. The standing ring is the most annoying ring.

• 24:31Andrew Manganelli?

It's annoying, but you should stand up.

• 24:32Speaker 01

The activity ring, to be clear, is to encourage you while you're awake to have some sort of activity, like standing and moving around. When you sleep-

• 24:41David Imel?

  Sleep ring.

• 24:42Speaker 01

You just want the best factors for your sleep, the most consistent going to sleep time, and maybe some sort of sleep hygiene bedtime routine type thing so you get better sleep.

• 24:50David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:50Speaker 01

And this may help you think about that more.

• 24:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:53Andrew Manganelli?

I think it should be based on time slept, so I can double the ring.

• 24:58Speaker 01

  You have a-

• 24:59Andrew Manganelli?

  I have a daughter, that's not working.

• 25:01David Imel?

  Yeah, good luck with that.

• 25:02Andrew Manganelli?

I've been sleeping on the floor lately. I have a terrible sleep.

• 25:05David Imel?

Apple is definitely seeing all of the really, the high popularity of all these smart rings and different wearables that people have been getting into recently, like Oura Ring. There's a whole ecosystem developing on smart rings right now.

• 25:16Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 25:16David Imel?

Um, and that was also a reaction to people not wanting to have to wear smart watches. But I think Apple is like, well, we don't want you to have to, you know, wear a ring. You could just wear the watch. You could just wear the watch.

• 25:27Speaker 01

Uh, yeah. I would really like to not wear a smart watch all the time.

• 25:31David Imel?

  Whoa, join us.

• 25:32Speaker 01

  What I do.

• 25:33Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, do you wanna wear a smart watch?

• 25:35David Imel?

  You don't have to.

• 25:36Speaker 01

No, I do. I mean, I'm, I would like to close my rings every day, measure all my activity, and know everything about my own health, and get a sleep score, but not have to wear this.

• 25:45Andrew Manganelli?

A whoop on a trail. You can just always wear AirPods.

• 25:47Speaker 01

How about? Well, a whoop is basically this, um, it's smaller, but it's the same function, the same thing. So, I would like to, I mean, like a ring or something even smaller where I'm not like, this thing is-

• 25:58David Imel?

Is this the birth of Rolie Marquez?

• 26:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, right.

• 26:02Speaker 01

Not quite. I mean, I'm still gonna wear it. Like, I still, I've worn this thing like every day. But that, I do think about that sometimes.

• 26:09Speaker 02

  AP Marquez.

• 26:09David Imel?

You know, the move is just to like, if you feel bad, do things that make you feel good. And then not worry about that kind of stuff.

• 26:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:19Andrew Manganelli?

Is that in a fortune cookie?

• 26:20David Imel?

  I, just saying.

• 26:23Speaker 01

It is validating sometimes, though, to get up and feel like garbage and then look at your sleep score and be like, I knew it.

• 26:27David Imel?

  I will, I will say.

• 26:29Andrew Manganelli?

No, but it's the opposite. Sorry.

• 26:31David Imel?

No, the gamification of like the eight sleep, sleep score thing is actually quite fun.

• 26:35Andrew Manganelli?

It's fun, but it can work the opposite way. I've found with like Garmin Body Battery sometimes, like, I think I've slept great. And then it's like 37% to start the day. I was like, no, now, now I've, no, now it told me I feel bad. And now I feel bad.

• 26:47Speaker 01

  Sorry.

• 26:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Feel bad.

• 26:48Speaker 01

I would want the opposite way around.

• 26:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Computer.

• 26:51Speaker 01

That's like the worst possible version. I would want it where like, I get up and I'm like, I think I don't feel that great. And then I see a 95 and I'm like, oh, I'm good.

• 26:59Andrew Manganelli?

I need one that just placebos me every day.

• 27:01Speaker 01

Yeah, placebo. Just tell me I got a 95. That's all I need. Yeah. All right. Well, we, we should take a quick break. We got way more phones and stuff to talk about because those are the sort of main event. But of course, this is a waveform podcast. So you already know what happens now. Trivia.

• 27:14Speaker 02

Were you paying attention? That's right.

• 27:17David Imel?

  Uh oh.

• 27:18Speaker 02

We're back. You can take the boys out of New Jersey, but they'll always bring trivia. True. That sort of worked. I just want to say, Adam, if I ever, uh, read a fortune cookie that began with like, oh no, the move is, I would love that fortune cookie so much. But.

• 27:32Andrew Manganelli?

  The move is.

• 27:33Speaker 02

  I'll be your fortune cookie.

• 27:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Eat more fortune cookies.

• 27:34Speaker 02

  Yeah. Big fortune cookie.

• 27:36David Imel?

I'll just send you a text every day that has a little fortune on it. Ellis.

• 27:39Andrew Manganelli?

I kind of like that, actually.

• 27:40David Imel?

  The move is.

• 27:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 27:41David Imel?

Today, you need to feel better about yourself.

• 27:43Speaker 02

Schedule them like weeks in advance. Okay, guys, were you paying attention? Apple, the place we're at right now, made lots of important updates to many of their products this year. But none were more seismic, earth shattering.

• 27:58Speaker 02

Then what they did to the trail loop? What did they add to the trail loop?

• 28:02Andrew Manganelli?

  I actually remember.

• 28:03Speaker 02

  On Ultra 3.

• 28:04Speaker 01

I will say the, the were you paying attention is, is usually the hardest for me at events where I am both taking notes and writing my video outline and live tweeting and taking pictures at the same time.

• 28:17Speaker 02

  Sounds like a skill issue.

• 28:18Speaker 01

So I just want to say I'm very proud of myself for actually knowing this one.

• 28:23Speaker 02

I think you saying that out loud, like nine YC companies just got founded to have an AI companion that does that for you.

• 28:30Speaker 01

Well, then it would be everywhere and no one would watch mine.

• 28:35Speaker 01

But yes, okay. The answers will be at the end like usual. We'll think about it and we'll be right back.

• 28:52Speaker 01

• 31:14Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. Let's talk new iPhones. We get this, we get this feeling once per year where they give us all the information. We get to try it for a few hours. We get to digest our thoughts real quick and just sort of dive in and talk about it. And then, of course, the reviews and stuff will be later. But how are we feeling? iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air?

• 31:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Nope, iPhone Air.

• 31:39David Imel?

  iPhone Air.

• 31:40Speaker 01

  Good point.

• 31:41David Imel?

  Whoa.

• 31:41Speaker 01

  Not numbered.

• 31:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, not.

• 31:42David Imel?

That was a interesting, they didn't number it.

• 31:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:45David Imel?

Is it going to be Air 2 next year? Or they're just never going to do it again?

• 31:49Speaker 01

Okay, before, we'll save Air for later, but I do think that there are some theories about the Air not being refreshed every year because they didn't give it a number. But I think let's start, let's just start with the base iPhone and work our way up. Something like that. So iPhone 17. All this lineup is the same prices, and we'll, we'll talk about that stuff as well. But iPhone 17 is the same base price, the same general design, and is maybe the best...

• 32:19Speaker 01

I think what I've seen a lot of reviews in the past saying, oh, the base iPhone is the one you should buy. And that felt kind of like a cop out take to me because it's the cheapest one, obviously. But now that they've added ProMotion and now that it's a base 256 gigs.

• 32:34Andrew Manganelli?

  That was the best thing.

• 32:35David Imel?

  Yeah, the base storage increase.

• 32:36Speaker 01

I actually feel like I can say that.

• 32:39Andrew Manganelli?

I think it's awesome and I'm, it makes me so mad at Google that all their base stuff was 128 that I just bought the Pixel for. Yeah, I was like furious about it. And when I saw them just like base everything here to 256, I was.

• 32:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 32:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Very upset.

• 32:51Speaker 01

Is this the first non Pro Apple device to get a Pro moniker feature? I thought about that for a long time before I said in the video, I couldn't think of any other example. I think it is ProMotion.

• 33:01David Imel?

I really thought that if they were going to bring a version of ProMotion, they were going to name it something different and do like 10 to 120 hertz or 60 to 120 dynamic.

• 33:10Andrew Manganelli?

I thought that's what it was gonna be because they first showed that it goes down to 10. And it took them a second to show that it goes all the way down to 1. I'm like, always on display. So I was like, yeah, David was right on that. And then I went, I was like, no, this, and then you were like in Slack, um, this is just normal ProMotion, right? There's no differences and I think that's confirmed.

• 33:28Speaker 01

Yeah. As far as we can tell, based on everything I said in the keynote, it seems like all of the benefits of ProMotion that were on the Pro phones are now on the base iPhone. I, we could talk for ages about whether regular people notice or not. And over the years of people defending 60 hertz iPhones, whatever.

• 33:45David Imel?

What will everyone argue about now?

• 33:47Speaker 01

But I, me personally, I can't, every other phone I test all year round is higher refresh rate and the only 60 hertz phone every year is the iPhone. And every year I'm like, gosh, this feels just worse. And I can finally daily and be happy with a smooth experience on a base iPhone because of ProMotion. So I'm very happy about ProMotion on the base iPhone. Maybe I'm over blowing it, but that's me.

• 34:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 34:09Speaker 01

So that's cool. It's also a brighter display. I think it's 3000 nits peak brightness and should generally be more viewable outdoors, which is always welcome. We love seeing huge nits numbers. And then, uh, it's a new A19 chip. So six core CPU. I think it's also a six core GPU, even though it's less, uh, power in those cores in the Pro chip. But yeah, A19 chip, roughly 20% better performance is what they're showing us graphs of on stage. Um, I'm not expecting anything dramatic or crazy, um, but you like to see obviously the new chip. And then slightly faster charging.

• 34:43Andrew Manganelli?

As well. So in general, uh, you know, they didn't talk about the other stuff that they always put in the phones like camera control and the action button and

• 34:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 34:51Andrew Manganelli?

You know, the ultra wide macros and all that other fun stuff, but it's all there. Like this is the most complete base iPhone, uh, obviously ever.

• 34:58Speaker 01

Yeah. The possibly biggest change that they, that actually got an audience reaction in the crowd that also comes to the other phones. So we could talk about it now or later.

• 35:08Andrew Manganelli?

  We should do that.

• 35:09Speaker 01

Might as well talk about it now.

• 35:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 35:11Speaker 01

Is center stage on the front camera.

• 35:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 35:13Speaker 01

  The new selfie cameras.

• 35:15Andrew Manganelli?

I was gonna say, I would, Adam and I both went, and I was just like, oh, wide angle and selfie camera that automatically detects. And Adam and I were like, Pixels had this forever. But then they described it more how it works. And I was like, nevermind, this is way better.

• 35:28Speaker 01

  It's way cooler.

• 35:29Andrew Manganelli?

It was like, the more I thought about it, the more I was shooting payroll with Marquez last night and thinking about how like, it's square and you can do, I think being able to go landscape while you're still holding it portrait

• 35:39Speaker 01

  Mm hmm.

• 35:40Andrew Manganelli?

is so much easier as a selfie. And like, like Marquez said, everyone knows where the camera is at that point. When you hold it horizontal, everyone's looking in different directions.

• 35:49Speaker 01

Well, as they mentioned, it's better for eye gaze.

• 35:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Exactly.

• 35:51Speaker 01

Because when you're looking at the screen, when the camera's over here, your eyes look weird in the resulting image.

• 35:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 35:57Speaker 01

But if you look directly at the screen and the camera is aligned on the horizontal axis with your eyes, then it looks way more normal.

• 36:02Andrew Manganelli?

Looks better. This was the perfect example of like, Apple does something later, but thinks about it harder and adds all the like really good features about it and like nails it as a game.

• 36:12Speaker 01

When I saw this, immediately I thought, everyone should copy this.

• 36:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 36:16Speaker 01

Every phone should copy this. This is great. Basically, the, the concept is it's a larger square sensor. And when you take a regular portrait selfie or a vertical selfie, it uses a vertical 18 megapixel crop of that square sensor. Automatically or manually, but if it detects that there's a bunch of people in the frame and you need to take a wide selfie where you'd normally turn it sideways, it automatically will switch to a horizontal 18 megapixel crop for a normal sideways selfie. And

• 36:47Speaker 01

That's great. It's it worked like magic. You could hit the button if you wanted to or would see the number of people in the frame and make a wider selfie for you. Everyone should copy this. I don't see why not. Like, it seems very smooth and intuitive.

• 36:57David Imel?

Yeah, every couple of years, there's just one little like quality of life improvement that is very small, but actually changes the way that people use their phone a lot.

• 37:06Speaker 01

  Yeah, people take selfies.

• 37:07David Imel?

This is one of those moments. And I think that's why.

• 37:09Andrew Manganelli?

Fifty billion, 500 billion people, they say.

• 37:11Speaker 02

  Damn.

• 37:11Speaker 01

  500 billion selfies.

• 37:13Speaker 02

I was gonna use that as a trivia question. Thank God I didn't.

• 37:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Don't I get a point now?

• 37:16Speaker 01

Well, he would have been wrong. I, nevermind. 500 billion selfies were taken.

• 37:21Speaker 02

  Have there even been?

• 37:22Speaker 01

  He said 500 billion people.

• 37:24Speaker 02

Which I think is more people than have ever lived.

• 37:26Speaker 01

Yeah, either way, people take lots of selfies on the iPhone.

• 37:31David Imel?

Well, this got by far the most applause in the entire keynote, which was very kind of surprising, but also honestly, I think it's like one of the coolest features of any of the new phones.

• 37:40Andrew Manganelli?

It got no applause really in our hotel room.

• 37:42David Imel?

  Really?

• 37:42Speaker 02

I was geeking out about it.

• 37:44Andrew Manganelli?

Well, and then we shot you down.

• 37:45Speaker 02

Micro, four thirds camera sensor, it's sick as hell.

• 37:48Speaker 01

Here's what I, what I will say. I take a lot of selfies. Not necessarily as myself taking selfies, but I'm involved in a lot of selfies.

• 37:57Speaker 02

Because you have, I was talking about this. You and me, long arms, we're always the selfie.

• 38:02Andrew Manganelli?

No, it's because he has 20 million subscribers on YouTube.

• 38:05Speaker 01

No, that's true. I get asked to take the selfie a lot. But what I do have is the unique opportunity to observe lots and lots of reps of how people take selfies. Hey, can I take a picture with you? Sure. They take out the phone. They either, you know, some people have the swipe to open the camera. Some people have like the long press on the corner icon, whatever. I get to see that behavior. Then I see how many people immediately go sideways, or how many people go vertical and like frame, like from the chest up and like have the two heads in the frame. Or like try to go wider to get like a little angle, or ask me to take it because my arms are longer. Like, all of this behavior, I, I see so many reps of people taking selfies.

• 38:44Speaker 01

And I saw this and I saw the crowd reaction and this new feature, and I'm just like, people are gonna love this. This is easily the most intuitive, like, quality of life, as you said, David. Like, this is a great feature in general for this phone.

• 38:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 38:56Speaker 01

Yeah, overrated maybe, but I think, yeah, as far as people go, yeah, people take a lot of selfies.

• 39:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Better than camera control?

• 39:02Speaker 01

Yeah. We should talk about camera control for a second because I tweeted this and we had talked about this yesterday. They didn't talk about that at all.

• 39:10David Imel?

  Literally at all.

• 39:10Speaker 01

They didn't say it by name.

• 39:12David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 39:12Speaker 01

And in a lot of the photo demos, they just didn't even use the button.

• 39:16David Imel?

They have like in all of the videos and stuff, they just like, they would open the camera with like the camera icon and then they would have their hand and they would be tapping the screen.

• 39:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:24David Imel?

The camera control is right above their thumb. But that's not how people use it. I know. They know that. Yeah, but last year, it was like, or when they introduced, yeah, last year, they were just like, everything was like, you're swiping on the camera control icon.

• 39:36Speaker 01

Yeah, very deliberately. And it made me think, like, obviously, there's more functions behind it. There's the visual intelligence and other stuff like that. But I also got like, in the back of my head, I got this feeling about like 3D touch. When, when Apple just kind of stopped talking about 3D touch and then suddenly it just kind of disappeared.

• 39:50David Imel?

  Hmm.

• 39:50Speaker 01

I got that same feeling. It's, it's only been two years. Like, it might still exist for a little bit, but I don't know if, if we feel like that about camera control. Do you guys use camera control?

• 39:58David Imel?

I use it to open the camera app.

• 40:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:01David Imel?

Like, it is, it is a faster way because you don't have to like tap on your screen or hold it up to your face to like light it up and then long press the, the camera button on the front.

• 40:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:09David Imel?

So it is a faster way to do that. I don't use any of the other features.

• 40:13Andrew Manganelli?

Can I ask a stupid question?

• 40:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:14Andrew Manganelli?

Does, do iPhones not have double tap to open camera?

• 40:16David Imel?

They do not. You can do the action button, though.

• 40:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, okay.

• 40:19David Imel?

Siri. You said it's the action.

• 40:21Andrew Manganelli?

That's it, because when you were saying how everyone opens their camera, I always open double tap.

• 40:25David Imel?

  Double tap, yeah.

• 40:25Andrew Manganelli?

  It's the best feature.

• 40:26David Imel?

Speaking of the action, so I was thinking about this yesterday. I was like, well, on the iPhone 15, they added the action button. On the iPhone 16, they added camera control. They're slow, they slowly added like a lot of things around the edge of the phone. I love it.

• 40:39Andrew Manganelli?

It's gonna be a stream deck soon.

• 40:40David Imel?

I, I mean, it feels like, once they make that foldable iPhone or like any of the, they're gonna eventually have to start getting rid of some of these features.

• 40:48Andrew Manganelli?

Well, they put camera control on the air, right?

• 40:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:52Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. That feels like a lot of work to get that to fit on the air for them to not care about it that much, though.

• 40:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:58Andrew Manganelli?

  So they've obviously still.

• 40:59David Imel?

It is surprising to me that they put it on the air.

• 41:01Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm surprised by that.

• 41:01Speaker 01

I think, I think it's one of those things that is two years in development. Like, when we saw the 12 mini, we always, Apple probably always knew there was gonna be a 13 mini, even as they saw 12 mini sales bombing.

• 41:13David Imel?

  Greatest phone ever made.

• 41:14Speaker 01

And I think when they went all in with camera control, they probably were already planning the next generations of phones to also have camera control and decided not to remove it. But, yeah, it was just not in the presentation at all, which was interesting.

• 41:26David Imel?

  It was strange.

• 41:26Andrew Manganelli?

You know what else wasn't in the presentation?

• 41:28David Imel?

  What? Siri. Yeah.

• 41:30Speaker 03

I looked up in the transcript, they didn't say it once.

• 41:32Speaker 01

  Apple Intelligence in general.

• 41:34Speaker 03

It was on the screen at one point, but.

• 41:36David Imel?

Is it dub dub next year, I guess, that we're eventually getting this?

• 41:39Speaker 01

Here's what I will say, because I can almost like kind of picture what Apple employees would say to me after hearing this, which is, a lot of stuff gets cut from the keynote.

• 41:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 41:46Speaker 01

Right? It's a 90 minute presentation or whatever. Not everything can make it in. And in the past, I and some of us have complained about them rehashing things that have already existed. When they re-present the same feature as if it's brand new. So maybe I'm happy that they didn't re-present Apple Intelligence or Siri or camera control as if we need to hear it again.

• 42:07David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:07Speaker 01

But it did feel un-Apple like for them to not talk about it.

• 42:10David Imel?

Well, maybe they should have cut Apple Intelligence from the WWDC 2024 keynote and never interested in the first one.

• 42:17Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know how we got all the way back to it, but the stabilization on the front-facing video looked really good. The demo of it where he was running the Sunlight, I think, just made the shot look not great in general.

• 42:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:28Andrew Manganelli?

  But it was really impressive.

• 42:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:30Andrew Manganelli?

How stable that was. And iPhone stabilization seems really good.

• 42:33Speaker 01

The interesting thing about that front-facing square camera is they're never using the square aspect ratio. They're always using the extra pixels around this part of the sensor they're actually utilizing for different things. So they change the aspect ratio to add more people into the frame, so they make it rectangular. And then the stabilization, they're just cropping into the center and then using that data from the rest of the sensor as like stabilization pixels.

• 42:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:56Speaker 01

So, um, yeah, there's a lot of stuff they can do.

• 42:58Andrew Manganelli?

  It looks really good.

• 42:59Speaker 01

I will say when I watched that demo, and that's a really good point because it's all that digital stabilization. But when I watched that demo, I had so many red flags go off in my head about how they could have faked that shot of like, had the phone stabilized otherwise and had the actor just hold it like he's pretending.

• 43:13David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 43:13Speaker 01

So I want to test that for myself. That's a specific thing where I watched the demo and I was like, I want to test that for myself.

• 43:18David Imel?

I think it'll be pretty good.

• 43:19Andrew Manganelli?

I think it'll be, the first video you and I ever made before I worked for you was Mac with a GoPro. And you shot a bunch of it on an iPhone and you kept going, the stabilization on this is great. And that was like iPhone.

• 43:30Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 43:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Seven or something like that?

• 43:32Speaker 01

Those are, those are the back sensors which include optical stabilization.

• 43:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 43:36Speaker 01

And I'm curious if they can do that good of a job.

• 43:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Eight years. Yeah.

• 43:40David Imel?

Yeah, action mode does the same thing. Like, action mode, which they introduced like two or three years, three years ago? I think it was three years ago, an iPhone 14 or some, something like that. That also like crops into the sensor. And that's why it's like, yeah, pretty dramatically. It's much less sharp, but the stabilization is very, very good. Last thing on this one, they also added a forty mi- forty-eight megapixel ultrawide camera, which means the entire lineup of iPhones all have all ultrawide cameras on the back. There is not a single lens on the back of any of the iPhones anymore that is not forty-eight megapixels.

• 44:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Which is nice.

• 44:12David Imel?

Which is nice, because it allows them to do all this different sort of crop in stuff. They're all fusion cameras or all that stuff.

• 44:18Andrew Manganelli?

And now, so when nothing tries to fake comparison videos, they can't use the twelve megapixel ultrawide and say that they're better and lie to everyone?

• 44:26David Imel?

Yeah, it also has ceramic shield two now, which we were talking about this morning over breakfast. The last time they called it ceramic, the new ceramic shield. Next generation. Next generation.

• 44:39Andrew Manganelli?

Brad from Mobile Syrup, and he was saying that like, he specifically asked someone that they thought the reason for naming it ceramic shield two this time was because it was a big enough upgrade, even though they have upgraded it in the past.

• 44:51David Imel?

  Two X better.

• 44:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 44:52David Imel?

Always two X better. Also, the colors are incredible. Yep. Specifically the sage. I'm a sage fan.

• 45:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Incredible is a strong word.

• 45:01David Imel?

Have you seen the green? Yeah, but it's not sage.

• 45:03Andrew Manganelli?

  I have.

• 45:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 45:05Andrew Manganelli?

It's weird. I've seen some other videos now where that did look more sage, but I feel like when we saw it on.

• 45:10David Imel?

  Than it does on.

• 45:10Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, when we saw it on the, I don't know what was going on. It felt very bright, but I've seen some clips now of people shooting video and it does look, it looks like sage on a phone.

• 45:20David Imel?

It is definitely a darker than on a light sage. One of my friends messaged me yesterday and was like, your boots are on the ground. Do you think the iPhone seventeen is the, should I get that over the sixteen? Is that the move? Cause it's the move. Ellis, the move is.

• 45:35Speaker 02

  Fortune 50 says.

• 45:36David Imel?

  Fortune 50 says.

• 45:37Speaker 02

  Well, what's the answer, David?

• 45:38David Imel?

Well, what he generally does is usually when a new tech product comes out, he buys the the last year's generation for like much cheaper.

• 45:45Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 45:46David Imel?

But the thing is, Apple is selling this iPhone 16 for only a hundred dollars less than this. And that's at a lower base storage.

• 45:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:55David Imel?

Right? So like, it's almost like they're the same price.

• 45:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:59David Imel?

If the if you account for the storage, but you're also getting the the front facing, the better front facing camera, the ceramic shield too, the better, uh, the better rear camera, the 120 hertz. I mean.

• 46:09Speaker 02

  Battery life.

• 46:10Speaker 01

  I would not.

• 46:10David Imel?

  Brightness, everything is better.

• 46:12Speaker 01

Spend that much on a 60 hertz phone.

• 46:14David Imel?

  No.

• 46:14Speaker 01

You literally no longer can justify it. As long as there was a 60 hertz new iPhone that existed, people could always justify it. Now that that doesn't exist anymore, I don't, I can't just just get the.

• 46:24Speaker 02

What? One of the questions we asked people at the event yesterday was, do you think people outside the tech community can tell the difference between 60 and 120 hertz?

• 46:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:34Speaker 02

And I feel like we got a resounding, no way.

• 46:38David Imel?

I think people can tell the difference if you ask them if they can tell the difference.

• 46:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, I.

• 46:42David Imel?

It's more like people don't care.

• 46:44Speaker 01

I have thoughts on, I think it would be hard for people to articulate what they're seeing. But I do think that people would notice a difference, especially when you tell them to look for a difference.

• 46:55Speaker 02

One interesting thing that we heard yesterday was a guy saying that on his mom's Z Flip 7, I think, maybe six, maybe five.

• 47:04Speaker 01

I think it was fold because he gave, he said he upgrades every fold and I'm assuming.

• 47:08Speaker 02

It was his mom's, not his.

• 47:09Speaker 01

I assumed he gave his mom.

• 47:11Speaker 02

No, his mom had the flip, I thought.

• 47:13Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 47:13David Imel?

  No, but his grandpa.

• 47:15Speaker 02

Shut up, Andrew. No, but he was saying he turned it off on his mom's phone and the only thing his mom noticed was that the battery life got better.

• 47:22Speaker 01

Uh, she doesn't notice that it's 60 hertz.

• 47:24Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 47:24David Imel?

Wouldn't the battery life get better if you had dynamic, like down to 1 hertz?

• 47:30Speaker 01

Well, you're never scrolling out. I think it just caps. I think it's up to 60 or up to 120.

• 47:34David Imel?

  Oh, I see.

• 47:35Speaker 02

But it is a Samsung, not a.

• 47:37Speaker 01

Yeah. Interesting. Okay. Yeah, you know, there's probably an age range where people stop noticing. I don't know. There's, I have.

• 47:43Speaker 02

  I definitely noticed.

• 47:44Speaker 01

I have theories on it. I just find it hard to not notice. Maybe I'm too dialed. I'm too dialed.

• 47:49David Imel?

It's just wild to me that Apple is even still selling the iPhone 16. Like, it makes no sense.

• 47:55Speaker 02

  Dude, teal.

• 47:56David Imel?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 47:57Speaker 01

  Got him.

• 48:01Speaker 01

Hey, so 17, it's out there. It's the same starting price as last year. I think it's a really good overall upgrade to the base phone.

• 48:10Speaker 03

You know, for 256, the Pixel 10 is more expensive.

• 48:14Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 48:14Speaker 01

  That's crazy.

• 48:15Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 48:15David Imel?

  That's crazy.

• 48:17Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm so mad.

• 48:19Speaker 01

Wow, because I always, I've been thinking like, I mean, the Pixel 10 has three cameras, but like, the Pixel 10 is a good deal. And so we kind of have to, we're forced to think of the iPhone 17 as a good deal also.

• 48:29David Imel?

  You do get.

• 48:30Andrew Manganelli?

The iPhone 17 is a great, I think is a great deal.

• 48:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 48:33Speaker 01

So then, should we go to the pros?

• 48:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Let's go pros.

• 48:36Speaker 01

The pros, okay, perfect. I think I'm gonna be a pro person. I'm definitely gonna be a pro.

• 48:41Andrew Manganelli?

  What?

• 48:42Speaker 01

17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. These phones are, I almost, I'm thinking about already what my title of the review is gonna be, and I keep, the word maximalist keeps coming to my head. Things got bigger, they got thicker, they're overdoing parts of it, and I love it.

• 48:55David Imel?

You know how there are all those rumors of like, the iPhone 17 Ultra and how it was gonna be ultra rugged and it was sort of like the Apple Watch Ultra? This to me, like, the design of this almost feels like an iPhone Ultra.

• 49:06Speaker 01

Um, maybe the most they've ever done.

• 49:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 49:09Speaker 01

I think when you compare it.

• 49:11David Imel?

  It feels sporty.

• 49:12Andrew Manganelli?

I think also the orange with the Ultra, it feels like the Ultra Watch accents.

• 49:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:16Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, and it feels kind of connected.

• 49:17David Imel?

It feels kind of sporty. It's like tough and like rugged. It almost feels like an Otterbox case.

• 49:23Speaker 01

Yeah, in its shape. I would say I still, when I compare it to other Ultra phones that exist, it still does not feel like an Ultra phone.

• 49:29David Imel?

  No.

• 49:29Speaker 01

Doesn't have a second telephoto or super fast charging or a big 6,000 million power silicon carbon battery or whatever. But this is the most maximal I've ever seen in iPhone, and I like that about it. So, what's new? First of all, they've gone back to aluminum. It was titanium, it was stainless steel, and it used to be aluminum back in the day. They're back to aluminum because they're doing this, honestly, I actually kind of like it. A lot of phones in the past have been like the aluminum frame and then glass front back.

• 49:58David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 49:58Speaker 01

This is an aluminum unibody iPhone with a glass cutout.

• 50:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 50:03Speaker 01

  And then a glass front.

• 50:04Andrew Manganelli?

It took me so long to realize that that was the cutout of the unibody. I thought it was just kind of like a design change on the back, and then I was like. Oh no, the rest of that is the body.

• 50:14Speaker 01

They just do that so they can have the wireless charge. Yeah, but I think that's nice. Instead of being a glass phone with aluminum rails, it is a metal phone. So I don't think too hard about the weight when I was holding it. It's heavy, it's a big maximalist phone. But yes, this is an all-metal unibody aluminum phone now with glass cutouts. And it is kind of part of the design. They've kind of embraced that like two-tone thing.

• 50:37Andrew Manganelli?

  I love the design.

• 50:38Speaker 01

And then the top is the plateau. The plateau. Okay, so they named it. They called it a plateau, but basically that top bar with the cameras and the flash and the microphone and the lidar is still there, I think, too. And all that is, it's got this big bar at the top of the phone that also has a glass cutout. And so it houses the cameras, obviously, but there are also more components that they've kind of pushed up into the top of the phone in order to maximize, maximize the battery in the bottom part of the phone. Which I like that, too. I think that's great. They've also moved, they've sort of reshuffled the A19 Pro chip that it has now closer to

• 51:20Speaker 01

the middle of the phone, where they've placed a first-time-ever vapor chamber in the iPhone. And so now, they've had this whole section of the keynote about how much better thermals are going to be and how much better cooling is going to be and how much, I think 40% better sustained performance. So basically, don't expect this to thermally throttle because the vapor chamber and the dissipation from the aluminum unibody frame will all be way better than previous iPhones. I tend to believe that. And that's exciting to see, especially if you're game or if you're going to do like long-term... Well, okay, you brought up a thing that I actually thought about, which might not actually have a difference, which is shooting videos.

• 51:55Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm interested in that.

• 51:56Speaker 01

So this is, the vapor chamber and the heat dissipation from the system is going to be great for heat that comes from the system. So if I'm recording videos in here, or if I'm gaming in here, or rendering a video in here, that will spike the temperature of the system and eventually throttle. And it'll take longer because of the better thermal properties. But when we go outside and record videos, it's just hot outside. And that's just going to heat it up.

• 52:22David Imel?

  On from the outside.

• 52:23Speaker 01

  From the outside anyway.

• 52:24David Imel?

  Which is different, yeah.

• 52:26Speaker 01

And so I think we're still, you know, when we go out and it's like, oh, the screen's dim and it's like gonna overheat and it's like, it's just because it's hot out and like all cameras overheat when it's hot outside. I think that's still gonna be true.

• 52:35David Imel?

Yeah, it's stuff for like if you're playing games and the chipset is getting hot, it moves the heat around and it keeps it cooler. But if you're just getting hit from the sun, like there's no way for the system to like keep the phone cool.

• 52:46Andrew Manganelli?

Maybe the orange will reflect the sun.

• 52:50Speaker 02

You know how they say like opposite attract, but same like orange, the sun is orange and this is orange, so they'll repel. That's like science.

• 52:59Speaker 01

I guess while we're on the topic of the colors, uh, the aluminum is either going to be orange, silver, or a deep blue. You might've said, notice that I didn't say black or space gray or any neutral dark. That's very upsetting to me.

• 53:15David Imel?

  It is weird.

• 53:16Speaker 01

  Put it out there.

• 53:17Speaker 03

  And I took that personally.

• 53:18David Imel?

It is wild because black is the most popular phone color by far.

• 53:24David Imel?

No. By a large margin, and the fact that Apple decided to go, you know what? Not only we're not going to do the most popular phone color ever, we're going to use the most polarizing color ever and make it bright orange.

• 53:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:38David Imel?

  Is wild.

• 53:39Speaker 01

So, uh, yeah, those are the options. I don't, I guess I'm gonna have to go dark blue. I don't know if I have a choice.

• 53:45Andrew Manganelli?

Can we get an orange check here?

• 53:46Speaker 01

  We asked everybody this yesterday.

• 53:48David Imel?

By the way, you have to see it in person.

• 53:51Speaker 01

  Cosmic orange?

• 53:51Speaker 03

  I saw it in person.

• 53:52Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm, I haven't.

• 53:53David Imel?

You told me this morning that you don't like it anymore.

• 53:55Speaker 03

That's where I stand on it.

• 53:56David Imel?

  So say that out loud.

• 53:57Speaker 03

I do not like it anymore.

• 53:58Andrew Manganelli?

I will change my mind. I haven't seen it in person. I think this is the most I've ever been compelled to buy an iPhone. The design is part of that reason. I think the new design unibody camera bump cutout and orange altogether is my favorite iPhone I've ever seen.

• 54:14David Imel?

  So Andrew's in on orange.

• 54:15Andrew Manganelli?

This is coming from someone who's literally never used an iPhone.

• 54:17David Imel?

I'm out on orange. I thought, I thought it was gonna be interesting and I saw it in person and I just think it's too much.

• 54:23Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 54:23David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:24Speaker 01

  Adam's out on orange.

• 54:24David Imel?

Silver looks amazing in person and, and silver is the raw aluminum color.

• 54:30Speaker 01

  Right.

• 54:30David Imel?

So when you chip, when you chip it, it's not gonna look different underneath the color.

• 54:33Speaker 01

  Oh, that's good.

• 54:34David Imel?

You're anodizing all the other colors so you can paint them.

• 54:36Andrew Manganelli?

Tina, do you see the back of my laptop right now? Character.

• 54:40Speaker 01

LS, are you out on or in on orange?

• 54:43Speaker 02

Dude, I have flip flopped so many times.

• 54:46Speaker 01

  I'm with you.

• 54:46Speaker 02

Since seeing this phone, like the pictures, I love the color orange. It's one of my favorite colors.

• 54:50Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 54:50Speaker 02

So I was like, orange iPhone. I was ready to put my credit card down as soon as the rumors came out. And then I saw the renders and I was like, yes. And then I saw one in person yesterday and I was like.

• 55:01David Imel?

  This is what I'm saying.

• 55:03Speaker 02

This is what I'm saying. But then I saw more pictures and I was like, ooh.

• 55:06Speaker 03

It is good in video too, I will say.

• 55:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:08Speaker 02

  I don't know. I don't know.

• 55:09Speaker 01

You know, I, I shot a lot of video of it and I think I liked it on camera more than I liked it in my own hands. It was, it was a little more saturated, a little more bright than the like pumpkin Patagonia orange that I think we thought it would be.

• 55:23Speaker 02

  Which is what I wanted.

• 55:25Speaker 01

Which is what I think a lot of people like.

• 55:26Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:27Speaker 01

So yeah, I'm, I'm also on the fence. I do think, I, I was kind of likening it to, there's been other like bright red phones in the past where I'm like, that seems like a shirt I would wear once and feel really cool in, but I don't want to wear it every day.

• 55:38Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:39Speaker 01

I feel like I have to go dark blue.

• 55:40David Imel?

I think that silver is like.

• 55:42Speaker 01

But I don't mind the silver. I just can't, I shoot so much videos of like reflective things. I can't have a light camera.

• 55:48David Imel?

  That's fair.

• 55:48Speaker 01

So I can't use the silver. The silver, the glass cutouts are white.

• 55:51David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 55:52Speaker 01

And that's just a bright phone for me.

• 55:53David Imel?

  That is true.

• 55:54Speaker 01

  So I'm going.

• 55:55Speaker 02

  Put a skin on it.

• 55:56Speaker 01

Honestly, yeah, I'm just going to debrand it dark.

• 55:57Speaker 02

Yeah. Did you, did you see this Spigen case? The, it's a clear case where the glass part is white.

• 56:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:05Speaker 02

That on the orange, the, the dreamsicle iPhone.

• 56:08Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 56:09Speaker 02

  That's going to go hard.

• 56:10David Imel?

Actually, yeah, that's not a bad, yeah.

• 56:12Speaker 01

  That's nice.

• 56:13David Imel?

  Okay.

• 56:14Speaker 01

Well, uh, yeah, the, so that's the colors and you know, I think the new design in general has a lot of us liking it, but the colors may be a little bit polarizing. But there's some other stuff that's new. Um, let's see, the Pro. So the batteries are larger and they're quoting longer battery life. Hard to get a sense of how much longer. We're going to have to test these phones, but if you go by the hours of video playback number that they give.

• 56:35David Imel?

It's so funny that we're still doing that, by the way, because video decoding is like the easiest thing to do now, even though it used to be the hardest thing.

• 56:42Speaker 01

You and I know that it's a silly number, but it's the number they keep giving. So it's what we have to go with as far as close because they don't give million amp hours. But they're going 39 hours on the. Seventeen Pro.

• 56:50David Imel?

  Max.

• 56:51Speaker 01

Max versus thirty-three from the sixteen Pro Max. So.

• 56:54Speaker 02

  What?

• 56:55David Imel?

  No.

• 56:55Speaker 01

  From the sixteen Pro Max.

• 56:56Speaker 02

  Thirty-nine?

• 56:57Speaker 01

So the sixteen Pro Max last year, they were quoting thirty-three hours of video playback.

• 57:01Speaker 02

  Oh, okay.

• 57:01Speaker 01

Now they're going up to a max of thirty-nine. So maybe like eight to ten percent more battery.

• 57:06Speaker 02

I've, I've been living in the dark ages for so long, that number like hurts my head.

• 57:11Speaker 01

I mean, don't watch thirty hours of video in a row. Don't do that. No, you can't make thirty minutes of video. I know. But yeah, I know that that's a different world from the twelve mini, but yeah, more battery, which is great.

• 57:21David Imel?

I mean, considering the regular seventeen Pro is now quoted at thirty-three hours, where the sixteen Pro Max used to be thirty-three hours, like, that's pretty good.

• 57:31Speaker 01

  That's pretty nice.

• 57:32David Imel?

  That's pretty good.

• 57:32Speaker 01

The phones are a little thicker. And if I'm remembering feeling them in my hand correctly, a little bit heavier too. Maybe I'm imagining that, but they are, they are more maximal, so I wouldn't be shocked. It's also aluminum. It's more metal. Heavier than titanium.

• 57:45David Imel?

  Aluminum heavier than titanium.

• 57:46Speaker 01

  Uh.

• 57:46David Imel?

But it's aluminum unibody. No, titanium is lighter. Titanium's lighter.

• 57:50Speaker 01

  But there's more metal versus.

• 57:52David Imel?

There's more metal, because the previous one, it was just the frame.

• 57:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 57:55David Imel?

With more glass. And then this time, it's the whole unibody, except for the cutout. So.

• 57:59Speaker 01

So I do think, I do think it's a little bit heavier. Um.

• 58:02Speaker 02

Titanium, wait, hold on, that's an AI overview. Gotta, gotta, gotta find, let me find a source, but I, I, I think titanium is heavier.

• 58:08Speaker 01

I vaguely, I vaguely remember when we had aluminum phones, they went to stainless steel, and it was like, this is polished and pretty, but it's heavier. And then they went to titanium and they said, this is lighter than stainless steel.

• 58:20David Imel?

  Yeah, the whole.

• 58:21Speaker 01

But not necessarily lighter than aluminum.

• 58:23David Imel?

Got you. I might be wrong.

• 58:24Speaker 01

So I don't remember versus aluminum. Either way.

• 58:26David Imel?

  Okay.

• 58:27Speaker 01

Chunky phone, right? It's still got the triple cameras. These are all bigger cameras. And yes, it's now a forty-eight megapixel, uh, four X telephoto camera instead of five X. I think this works really nicely. We had five X before on a twelve X, twelve megapixel, God, I'm saying a lot of numbers. We had a five X twelve megapixel telephoto before. That gap between 1X and 5X was kinda far, but you could work with it and then you got to the zoom and you could get crisper photos at 5X again. But now that gap is smaller because it's only 4X and it's a higher resolution, so you can then continue to zoom further and have more pixels.

• 58:59David Imel?

Range, quote unquote. Yeah, because now they're all Fusion cameras, so you can crop into the center on each of them. It is kind of nice just to have like this linear progression where it's .5, 1, 2, 4, 8. So it's doubling every time, which is kinda nice.

• 59:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 59:17Speaker 01

Yeah, so better zoom performance and then Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and the back, which is nice.

• 59:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 59:24Speaker 01

That millimeter wave antenna at the top of the phone was an interesting choice.

• 59:28David Imel?

  We gotta talk about that.

• 59:29Speaker 01

  It's a look.

• 59:30David Imel?

So on the iPhone 16 Pro, they were able to move the millimeter wave cutout, which was, used to be just this just little glass window that allowed the 5G to come through. They were able to move it into the antenna bands and then this year, they didn't really show this in the keynote at all, but you see it in person. The very top of the phone, there's a giant millimeter wave window and it does not look great.

• 59:53Speaker 01

It's funny too because they added more space for antennas with the plateau.

• 59:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 59:57Speaker 01

But then had to re-add the millimeter wave cutout.

• 1:00:00David Imel?

  Plateau is an antenna too.

• 1:00:02Speaker 01

  It's literally an antenna.

• 1:00:03David Imel?

It's so weird that they need to do that. I don't know why.

• 1:00:05Speaker 01

It's like a more contrasty looking iPhone. It's like a two-tone iPhone. It's like the metal and then the cutout at the top and the cutout at the plateau and then the cutout for the charging. It's just different looking.

• 1:00:15David Imel?

  I love it.

• 1:00:16Speaker 01

Yeah, so yeah Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and the back and you get that new selfie camera and then some genuinely pro features. ProRes RAW video recording. I will test that for sure.

• 1:00:26David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:27Speaker 01

The only other ProRes RAW camera that I have is our Red V Raptor.

• 1:00:31David Imel?

  That's crazy.

• 1:00:32Speaker 01

Just to put that in perspective.

• 1:00:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:34Speaker 01

How much is that camera? It's not even about price, it's just about like demographic. No, it's about demographic. Like, nobody shoots ProRes RAW, but then every time you listen to Apple, they're like, "Shoot ProRes, shoot ProRes RAW." You get the raw malleability of the footage, but obviously it's smaller because of ProRes.

• 1:00:50David Imel?

Do you think that's why it starts at 256?

• 1:00:52Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 1:00:53Speaker 02

No, because you can only shoot ProRes raw with an external drive, right? Right? Right?

• 1:00:57Speaker 01

  I didn't hear that.

• 1:00:58Speaker 02

That, well, that's the way the 16 Pro was.

• 1:01:00Speaker 01

  Pro 16 Pro?

• 1:01:01David Imel?

  No, I think.

• 1:01:02Speaker 02

No, I'm, I'm right about this.

• 1:01:03David Imel?

No, I think 16 Pro, it was not with extra, it was like on the 128GB model, you were not able to shoot ProRes.

• 1:01:09Andrew Manganelli?

I think it was a storage.

• 1:01:09David Imel?

They basically like you had to buy the 256 or higher model to even shoot ProRes on the 16 Pro.

• 1:01:15Speaker 02

Am I hallucinating right now? I swear this is the thing that you could only shoot ProRes raw on the iPhone.

• 1:01:20David Imel?

It, it makes me sort of feel like the reason they made the base storage higher is so that they didn't have to have that weird artificial limitation anymore. Cause it used to be that you literally could not use one of the features if you bought one of the lower storage phones, which was a very weird thing for Apple to do.

• 1:01:33Speaker 01

I appreciate the more storage. Um, yeah. ProRes raw will take more storage than ProRes.

• 1:01:37David Imel?

  A lot more, yeah.

• 1:01:38Speaker 01

  Um, also GenLock sync support.

• 1:01:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:42Speaker 02

Dude, me and Rufus went nuts in Slack with that guy.

• 1:01:44Speaker 01

It's so funny. I was sitting in the, in the theater later and talking to a journalist who was like, so GenLock, like, does anybody can use that? And I was like, honestly, probably not, but.

• 1:01:55Speaker 02

No, no, no. So did you see?

• 1:01:57Speaker 01

  For us?

• 1:01:57Speaker 02

Dude, think about, so, uh, the, the movie that just came out 28 years later. With that crazy iPhone rig.

• 1:02:04David Imel?

  The rig.

• 1:02:05Speaker 02

The mobile rig. That without GenLock versus that with GenLock is like possibly hundreds of hours of work saves.

• 1:02:14David Imel?

Someone was saying, someone online was saying that they probably developed this for that movie. So that they could like use that rig.

• 1:02:22Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:02:22David Imel?

And then they were like, well, we have this now.

• 1:02:24Speaker 02

For, for those that don't know, GenLock is sort of like a shared time, like.

• 1:02:30David Imel?

  It's time code type thing.

• 1:02:31Speaker 02

When you, like, when you, when you share time code a bunch of, um, between a bunch of cameras, it syncs the start time of the video file, but it doesn't actually sync the internal clocks of the camera. Just make sure they all start at the same time. Uh, GenLock actually sends out a pulse that tells each camera, frame, frame, frame, frame, frame. So that every camera is taking a frame.

• 1:02:50David Imel?

  Sync consistently.

• 1:02:51Speaker 02

Are we doing GenLock in the studio right now?

• 1:02:53Speaker 01

No, I don't think so. Probably not, cause we're shooting on 16 Pros.

• 1:02:57Speaker 02

  Ah.

• 1:02:57Speaker 01

But in a situation like this, it could potentially be pretty useful.

• 1:03:01Speaker 02

This is like the situation, yeah.

• 1:03:03Andrew Manganelli?

It also is, I believe right now, only available through a black magic.

• 1:03:07Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:08Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, thing, but he did say there is an API available, so it sounds like there could be other third-party adapters.

• 1:03:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:14Andrew Manganelli?

  That would help.

• 1:03:14Speaker 01

  Which is nice.

• 1:03:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Support it.

• 1:03:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:16Speaker 01

So overall, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feel like.

• 1:03:22Speaker 01

Like I said, not quite at the level of like maxed out hardware Ultra phones that we've seen, but the most maximalist iPhones that we've ever seen. And I like them.

• 1:03:30Andrew Manganelli?

There was one other small thing that I thought was kind of interesting that we'll never really get to see a difference in, but it was that the North American versions are eSIM only. And they specifically mentioned using that SIM card space for more battery.

• 1:03:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:44Andrew Manganelli?

Which means there will be two different iPhone 17 Pros with different battery sizes, based on what region you're in.

• 1:03:51Speaker 02

Yeah. One of them is all day. One of them is slightly more all day.

• 1:03:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:57Andrew Manganelli?

I wonder what the numbers on that are. I want to know how much

• 1:04:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:01Andrew Manganelli?

milliamp hours are in a SIM card tray space.

• 1:04:04Speaker 01

I think this is, I think this is something we can figure out. Whoever's watching this podcast, if you can find the milliamp hour number difference between an iPhone 17 Pro in an eSIM region and an iPhone 17 Pro in a regular SIM region, then we'll know exactly how much more battery they saved and are giving us by not having a regular SIM card in our phones.

• 1:04:26David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:27Speaker 01

  So there you go.

• 1:04:28Andrew Manganelli?

58 million hours. 30 is my guess.

• 1:04:31Speaker 01

I'm gonna go with, I'm gonna go with 50.

• 1:04:34Speaker 02

I think they're gonna add the entire battery life of my 12 Mini.

• 1:04:38Speaker 01

I think that's probably exactly what it looks like.

• 1:04:40David Imel?

12 million hours. All right. Well, I think we're gonna talk about the iPhone Air, not 17 Air notably.

• 1:04:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:48David Imel?

Uh, for quite a while. So before we do that, we should probably do our second trivia segment.

• 1:04:54Speaker 02

But it's not just regular trivia.

• 1:04:59David Imel?

  That's right.

• 1:05:00Speaker 01

  I was. I'm so ready.

• 1:05:01Andrew Manganelli?

You, you, you just said you weren't paying attention before.

• 1:05:04Speaker 01

I got lucky and I feel like I'm on a roll, so keep it going.

• 1:05:06Andrew Manganelli?

All right, second question. They showed off two new watch faces for the Apple Watch Series 11.

• 1:05:11Speaker 01

  I'm not getting this.

• 1:05:12Andrew Manganelli?

One was called Flow, which had liquid glass numerals. The other was a quote, "modern interpretation of a traditional regulator clock." End quote.

• 1:05:22Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:05:23Andrew Manganelli?

  What was that one called?

• 1:05:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, I don't know.

• 1:05:24David Imel?

  I

• 1:05:26Speaker 01

  I don't know. I have no idea.

• 1:05:27Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know. I Googled "traditional regulator clock" and I just got a bunch of pictures of clocks.

• 1:05:30David Imel?

  What is a regulator clock?

  Hmm.

Well, well, well, guys, there's an article on Wood Magazine, which is a hilarious title, called "What is a regulator clock?" And I will read this.

• 1:05:43David Imel?

Just pictures of you all over that magazine.

• 1:05:49Speaker 02

What if it was a magazine about things that could possibly happen and it was spelled W-O-L, W-O-U-L-D, magazine? Anyway, we'll be right back.

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

All right, we're back. We gotta talk about this iPhone 17 Air. Just say iPhone Air. I keep doing that. iPhone Air. Doing that. iPhone. We gotta talk about the iPhone Air. So that's the first thing. iPhone Air is new to the lineup. It is, I guess, not an iPhone 17. It's an iPhone Air. It's part of the lineup of new phones, and it's... In your defense, in the dock, it does say 17 Air. It does? Yeah. Okay. Well, they said iPhone Air onstage, and I remember writing that in my tweet, being careful not to say 17, because they didn't say 17. But it's in the middle of the lineup. It's a $1,000 phone, it's replacing the Plus. Yeah. Okay, so it's more expensive than the base iPhones, it's less expensive than the Pro iPhones. They took some stuff from the Pro iPhones that I didn't expect them to, Yeah. which was interesting, because we heard about this ultra-thin phone. And then they also took some stuff from the base iPhones.

• 1:09:06Speaker 01

So the basic idea, if you haven't already seen, is it's a crazy razor-thin iPhone. Yeah. To be precise, 5.6 millimeters. Thinner than the S25 Edge. Notably, probably important to them, they are the thinner one. Yeah. Of course, there is also still that plateau at the top. This phone reminds me more than ever of the Nexus 6P. But it's a single camera, the 48-megapixel Fusion camera. And then it's just thin, thin, thin. Thin buttons, thin camera control, thin action button, the port at the bottom. There's no speakers at the bottom of the phone. Yeah, that's strange. I saw this because I posted... There's none at the bottom? Yeah, I put my short out, and I was like, wow, these speaker holes at the bottom are really small. And then all the comments were like, I checked Apple's website, there's actually no speakers

• 1:09:51Speaker 01

at the bottom, that's just the microphone holes, it's just a... Single speaker at the top.

• 1:09:55Speaker 02

  Wait, is it mono?

• 1:09:57Speaker 01

It's a sing- yeah, sing- it's not mono, but it, yeah, it's not. Well, I guess technically it is mono.

• 1:10:03Speaker 02

  Is it two drivers inside?

• 1:10:05Speaker 01

Probably two. But it's, it's usually the earpiece speaker.

• 1:10:10Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know where it comes from.

• 1:10:11David Imel?

  Just in the plateau.

• 1:10:12Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, the earpiece speaker and that would, they could do it in stereo.

• 1:10:15Speaker 01

Yeah, most phones have speaker at the top of the phone, speaker at the bottom of the phone. This one is so thin and is so focused on just filling it up with battery that they have not put a speaker at the bottom of the phone. They have also not put a SIM card tray at the bottom of the phone. It's eSIM only globally.

• 1:10:30David Imel?

  Globally.

• 1:10:31Speaker 01

Um, they've also not put an ultra wide, obviously, or a telephoto camera. It's just a single camera. And it is ceramic shield two, front and back, and it's a titanium frame.

• 1:10:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:42Speaker 01

They chose to put the A19 Pro in this phone. Uh, minus one GPU core.

• 1:10:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:49Speaker 01

But the A19 Pro chip and they're, we're chatting about this. It seems like.

• 1:10:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:53Speaker 01

That's a more if potentially efficient chip overall.

• 1:10:57David Imel?

That's what was very funny is like, yeah, I was worried. I was like, why would they put this more intense chip in this phone? But then they were like, and it gets even better battery life.

• 1:11:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:11:06David Imel?

Like, how does the Pro chip get better battery life?

• 1:11:08Speaker 01

So it's, you know, I, I think almost every choice about the hardware of this phone. Paradoxically is to maximize battery life.

• 1:11:17David Imel?

  Yeah, every single thing.

• 1:11:19Speaker 01

So thin that the only thing that they can optimize for is just whatever they can do, just put more battery in this phone. Um, and we'll talk about battery in a second, but USB two instead of USB three?

• 1:11:31David Imel?

  Yeah, it's a, it's a slower.

• 1:11:33Speaker 01

  Slower bus, okay.

• 1:11:35David Imel?

You wanna move files from it, but obviously you're probably not gonna be shooting like, you know, cause it doesn't, you're not even allowed to shoot ProRes RAW or any of that stuff on this phone.

• 1:11:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:11:44David Imel?

  So, you know.

• 1:11:45Speaker 01

It's a six and a half inch screen up front, so it is a little bigger than the smallest iPhone and it is a ProMotion display. Which again, that's great. It's gonna have all the way down to one hertz. That's efficient, always on, great. Um, and yeah, it's, it's not gonna have the, the vapor chamber or any of the thermal improvements that the Pro had. So the, the behavior of the chip is gonna be interesting to watch when we test it because it may be more efficient at the low end. But when you do try to do bursty or like longer sustained performance stuff.

• 1:12:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:15Speaker 01

Is it gonna overheat instantly in throttle?

• 1:12:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:18Speaker 01

Is it gonna get really hot because there's no vapor chamber? I don't know.

• 1:12:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:22Speaker 01

  We'll have to see.

• 1:12:23David Imel?

They tried to miniaturize basically everything. They made a new version of the C1 modem. The C1 modem, and they said this specifically in the keynote, they were like, "We only released the C1 modem six months ago, and now we've got the C1X."

• 1:12:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:37David Imel?

So in this iPhone 16E, we saw that custom C1 modem.

• 1:12:42Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:12:42David Imel?

Right? Because they wanted to move away from Qualcomm, all this stuff. And now, they said this in the keynote, "It was only six months ago that we introduced the C1 modem, now we're introducing the C1X modem", "which they say is two times faster than the C1 modem." I do not know what that means when it comes to a modem.

• 1:12:59Speaker 01

  That seems crazy.

• 1:13:00David Imel?

Um, but it's apparently also 30% more battery efficient. And as we said, everything is about battery efficiency.

• 1:13:07Speaker 01

And this is part of the whole N1 chip package for all of their network connectivity.

• 1:13:12David Imel?

So there's the N1 chip, which does Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread radios all in one chip as well.

• 1:13:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:19David Imel?

  Which is, yeah.

• 1:13:20Speaker 01

So I think the idea behind all of this is to just be maximally efficient. It's the same idea as like when we had Intel chips versus Apple silicon in these laptops, and they got much better battery life and efficiency because they were dialed for what they wanted to do with them instead of off the shelf. Same thing. If you're gonna gear this thing towards, paradoxically, maximum battery life, then that makes sense for this phone.

• 1:13:39David Imel?

And they put almost everything in the plateau area of this phone.

• 1:13:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:44David Imel?

They put as much battery as they could physically fit in the bottom half of the phone.

• 1:13:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:48Andrew Manganelli?

It was both cameras, front and back.

• 1:13:50David Imel?

  Uh huh.

• 1:13:51Andrew Manganelli?

Speaker, chip, it's just like, literally that's what the plateau is for.

• 1:13:54David Imel?

Yeah, like most of the stuff is in the plateau.

• 1:13:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:57David Imel?

People are making jokes that the next iPhone, the next nano device is just gonna be the plateau.

• 1:14:02Speaker 01

  With the big cameras.

• 1:14:03Andrew Manganelli?

Honestly, that would look like Sully from Monsters, Inc.

• 1:14:06David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:06Andrew Manganelli?

  That'd be kinda sick.

• 1:14:07David Imel?

Yeah, so, you know, you're not getting macro camera, spatial, you can't do spatial photos because it needs at least two cameras, so you can't do any of that. You're not getting ProRAW, no cinematic mode, no spatial video, no ProRes video, no Academy color grading or encoding, no Apple Log 2, no GenLock, no macro video, no Studio Quality 4 micro ray, no millimeter wave, oh no.

• 1:14:28Speaker 01

  But it's 5.6 millimeters thin.

• 1:14:30David Imel?

This is... This is the whole thing, right? It's like, you're giving up so much for something that feels, yes, it, it does feel amazing and shocking.

• 1:14:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:14:42David Imel?

But I just wonder, how long is it gonna take for that veneer to wear off? And for you to be like, but what about all the features and the fact that this has probably horrible battery life?

• 1:14:50Speaker 01

Yeah. I will say that testing and using S25 Edge, I had a similar arc of feelings and thoughts, which was, okay, we see the videos. Oh, looks really cool and thin, but like, nobody's asking for this. What are we doing here? Oh, you'll probably sell a few. The ad's really cool and snazzy, but like, whatever. And then, I hold it, and I go, damn. That was nice.

• 1:15:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:11Speaker 01

It's like, God, and I kinda wanna use this phone. And it looks cool on video, and you can tell it's thin, but it's, it's thin and light. So the combo of like, holding this like, uh, I don't know, it's just a, it's a crazy piece of hardware in your hand, and it has a ProMotion display on the front, and it's a totally smooth, like, usable iPhone, and you're like, dang, this is kind of impressive. I, I went through that, also. And then, but like, logically, it is a worse phone. And the only way to justify buying the Edge is to really like the fact that it's so thin and light. That is the only thing that will make you buy it over the other phones. So how much do you really want or are impressed by that?

• 1:15:51David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:51Speaker 01

  Is the question.

• 1:15:52David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:53Speaker 01

It is, yeah, the brighter screen, titanium, all that fun stuff. It, it looks fine.

• 1:15:58David Imel?

This phone was invented to miniaturize the parts so that they can, it's one half of the iPhone fold.

• 1:16:03Speaker 01

Okay, yeah, so this is my-

• 1:16:04David Imel?

  That's what this is.

• 1:16:05Speaker 01

I kind of like, started this thought in the impressions video, and I'll probably have to try to finish it in the review. But, I kinda feel like you can only see this phone one of two ways. Way number one is, Apple is just trying it, and you know, they, they tried the mini thing, like, Ello's bought one, but who else, like, hasn't? You know, not a lot of sales, right? So then they moved to the Plus, they're like, oh, people like big screens, we'll do the Plus phones. And then they had the Plus phones for a little bit, and those were okay sales, but not really killing it.

• 1:16:33David Imel?

That was the worst selling one.

• 1:16:35Speaker 01

Yeah, it didn't hit, and so now they're like, oh, what if we do ultra-thin? And so they go through the process of miniaturizing and the, and one chip and all this fun stuff. And so now they're just throwing something at the wall and seeing if it sticks. That's one way you could see it. The other way you could see it is, Apple has been dreaming of this for years, and this is a long time in the making. And this is the first step towards every phone being this thin. They just needed to get the right combination of parts and Apple silicon and battery, technology, and hardware and displays and everything to finally make this a real phone. And, in the same way that like the first MacBook Air kinda sucked and was underpowered, but then now every laptop is that thin and it's totally fine. That's also gonna happen with smartphones.

• 1:17:20Speaker 01

This iPhone Air is a little underpowered, it might overheat, it has a really weak battery. But, when they finally get like silicon carbon and like Apple silicon gets even more efficient and all this stuff, it's gonna be like a totally normal iPhone and we'll all have phones like this everywhere.

• 1:17:37David Imel?

Yeah, it's interesting because they made a new MagSafe battery that is very thin profile.

• 1:17:43Speaker 02

  Which I want.

• 1:17:44David Imel?

Only works with the Air, but designed for...

• 1:17:47Speaker 01

  Designed for the Air.

• 1:17:48David Imel?

It's designed for there. It doesn't only work for the Air, with the Air. You could put it on another phone, but you would have to put it sideways because of the way...

• 1:17:55Speaker 01

Oh, how tall it is because the plato is so tall up?

• 1:17:57David Imel?

  Yes.

• 1:17:58Speaker 01

I didn't even think of that.

• 1:17:59David Imel?

  It's higher up, yeah.

• 1:18:00Speaker 02

Can you not use normal MagSafe on the iPhone?

• 1:18:02David Imel?

No, no, it's... You can. It's just that this MagSafe battery specifically is like, it's specifically designed for the size of the Air.

• 1:18:11Speaker 01

In the biggest red flag of all red flags, they've designed a battery just for this ultra-thin phone that you can slap to the back.

• 1:18:21David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:22Speaker 01

And like, yeah, you can, we could always slap a battery to the back of your phone, but you're like, "Oh, for this one, we're gonna make a special one because we know people are gonna want this."

• 1:18:28David Imel?

And it makes it the same thickness as the regular one.

• 1:18:31Speaker 01

It makes it the same thickness as a regular phone and it totals now the same overall battery as the Pro Max.

• 1:18:37David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:18:37Speaker 01

With that 3,150 million bar battery. As the Pro Max.

• 1:18:42Speaker 02

Bro, everyone says they want a modular phone and then we get a sort of modular phone. It's like, red flag.

• 1:18:49Speaker 01

Well, okay, do you remember, do you remember the Moto Z? Yeah. That was before Ellis came online.

• 1:18:55Speaker 01

Ultra thin. Moto Z was like the thinnest.

• 1:18:57Speaker 01

I was still in preschool when that came out. That was a ridiculously thin phone. It might have also been 5mm, like a USB-C port barely fit in that phone. And they had the pins on the back and you could slap a battery to the back and they had a specially designed... That was also a red flag. There's a projector. It's the same. A projector, yeah. Yeah, or... What? Yeah, it was a projector attachment. You could slap the battery on the back, charge up the battery, then pop that off and put another Moto mod on the back and then do other stuff with it, or take it off and use it as a super thin phone. And that was really cool, but it's like, yeah, they did the battery accessory because they knew that this phone would need that type of thing. Yeah. Same exact red flag here. It's just an Apple design language and it's very pretty and it's nice, but it is definitely gonna have a bad battery life without that thing. Yeah. So, now we know. I... Yeah.

• 1:19:41Speaker 01

What would you consider a bad battery life for this? Valid question. Uh, so, they said all day battery without this battery bank. I... You know, I tend to measure my battery life in screen on time, which is like this old stat that's come from Android phones where it's like, "I have had my phone on for 4.5 hours today and here's the breakdown of all the apps that I was using it for 4.5 hours for." A good battery life for me used to be 4 hours, now it's 7 or 8. Uh, I... That's really good, right? Yeah, 8 hours of screen on time is an A+. I think like 5, 6 feels like a... 5 or 6 is like, good. Fine, good.

• 1:20:23Speaker 01

And I would suspect that this one's gonna be 4 to 5. Which is usable, it's probably fine, but it's not gonna be good. It's not gonna be good battery life. Yeah, I'm guessing for... They quote 27 hours of playback. Of video playback, which is what, 2/3 of the 40s? 39 was the... 39 is the Pro Max.

• 1:20:45David Imel?

  Pro Max.

• 1:20:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:20:47David Imel?

  Pro is 33.

• 1:20:48Speaker 01

  33. Like three quarters, yeah.

• 1:20:50David Imel?

Yeah, and then with the battery, they quote 40 hours of playback. So, you know, I still, I still think it's just that they're gonna make that foldable and they needed to make, they needed to engineer the components.

• 1:21:02Speaker 01

You're saying this is what Samsung just did.

• 1:21:04David Imel?

Yeah, this is literally what Samsung just did. They, they released the S25 Edge and then like three months later, they released the Fold 7, which is the S25 Edge in two parts. That slaps itself together.

• 1:21:14Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 1:21:14David Imel?

  Part D, yeah.

• 1:21:16Speaker 01

So you're saying foldable iPhone confirmed?

• 1:21:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:20Speaker 01

  No way.

• 1:21:22David Imel?

Yeah, next year probably, I'm sure.

• 1:21:23Speaker 01

  Just checking.

• 1:21:24David Imel?

But, yeah, I don't know. I mean, now that would allow them and, you know, if they were able to fit the entire foldable iPhone in the plateau, then the second half of the foldable iPhone could all be battery.

• 1:21:35Speaker 01

  That would be incredible.

• 1:21:36David Imel?

And it could get crazy battery life.

• 1:21:38Speaker 02

That's the one Ellis is buying. Straight from a mini to a fold.

• 1:21:42Speaker 01

No, there's gotta be something in between, bro.

• 1:21:44Speaker 02

My phone is, is like, the past two weeks have been specifically so painful on the 12, the old 12 mini. She's barking.

• 1:21:53Speaker 01

Did I tell you the lady on the flight next to me on the way here had a Z Fold 7?

• 1:21:58David Imel?

  Oh, a 7?

• 1:21:59Speaker 01

  She never closed it.

• 1:22:00David Imel?

  Wow.

• 1:22:01Speaker 01

  Never closed.

• 1:22:01Speaker 02

Did die in five minutes? We're doing a bonus episode that'll come out after this where we talk to people on the street at the Apple event. Three, three separate people that we talked to had 12 series phones.

• 1:22:14Speaker 01

  Oh, interesting, 12 series phones.

• 1:22:16Speaker 02

  No one had a mini.

• 1:22:17Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:22:19Speaker 01

I don't think you needed to clarify. Well, you know, that's kind of where we're at as far as like, you know, we talk about this every year with Apple and targeting, like, you probably don't need a new phone every single year, but how far back are you that you should upgrade to these new phones? And I think it's probably pretty common for people to be right around the 12 or the 13 series right now.

• 1:22:37Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:22:37Speaker 01

And those people will find any of these tempting, I think.

• 1:22:42David Imel?

Yeah, this is something I was thinking about actually earlier when we were doing the Pixel stuff, because I switched over to the Pixel and I noticed I was, I was just texting people and it was just like RCS chat with this person, RCS chat with this person. And I was like, you know? Apple was really stubborn about adding RCS, but the fact that they force people to update their software and that their software update numbers are so high.

• 1:23:07Speaker 01

  Pretty nice.

• 1:23:07David Imel?

Means that, wow, I can use RCS with all these iPhone people now and I didn't have to force them to update their phones.

• 1:23:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, it was pretty nice.

• 1:23:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:15Speaker 02

  It's pretty handy.

• 1:23:16Speaker 01

Yeah, so I, you know, I think the 17, the 17 Air, I think the iPhone Air, am I allowed to call it 17 Air?

• 1:23:22David Imel?

  No.

• 1:23:23Speaker 01

No. Okay. I think the iPhone Air is a really interesting bet. We will be testing it. I will find out exactly how good or bad the battery life is. Stay tuned, get subscribed.

• 1:23:34David Imel?

It does feel and look amazing, I have to say.

• 1:23:36Speaker 01

It does feel super light and super thin and very impressive, just like the thin iPad, just like the S25 Edge, just like the S11 Ultra tablet.

• 1:23:45David Imel?

  Just like the iPhone 6.

• 1:23:47Speaker 01

That 6 Plus was, that had a reputation. Yeah, we'll see if it bends, but the idea is it's a, it's a super thin phone and we'll see how well it does.

• 1:23:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:57Andrew Manganelli?

  I have one more thing.

• 1:23:59Speaker 01

  One more thing?

• 1:24:00David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:24:01Speaker 01

  That's very appropriate.

• 1:24:01Speaker 02

  Vision Pro 2?

• 1:24:02Andrew Manganelli?

It is a little. This is just something I noticed, as far as I can tell, none of these new phones that were announced are compatible with the Apple polishing cloth.

• 1:24:10David Imel?

  Oh yeah, true.

• 1:24:12Andrew Manganelli?

Dang. As of right now, the polishing cloth is only up to the iPhone 16 Pro.

• 1:24:16Speaker 02

I've been refreshing the page to make sure that they didn't update it.

• 1:24:17David Imel?

  They still haven't.

• 1:24:18Andrew Manganelli?

  So be careful.

• 1:24:20Speaker 02

  If you use...

• 1:24:21Andrew Manganelli?

We might get polishing cloth 2, 2 times softer.

• 1:24:23Speaker 02

I don't want to make any, I don't want to make any like claims, but allegedly, if you use the Apple polishing cloth on any of the 17 series phones or the Air, it will be destroyed instantly.

• 1:24:33David Imel?

  It's like, it's like a, it's a particle and an antiparticle.

• 1:24:38Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:24:39Andrew Manganelli?

We did this as an April Fool's joke a while ago. We took the first phone that's not on the list.

• 1:24:43Speaker 02

  Dude.

• 1:24:44Andrew Manganelli?

And like, Marques did sleight of hand to pretend to wipe it and then it just shattered like right after.

• 1:24:49Speaker 02

Light imitates art, man. I don't, I don't know what else to tell you.

• 1:24:52Speaker 01

  Could happen.

• 1:24:53Andrew Manganelli?

I think somebody just has to update the, uh, the page here.

• 1:24:56Speaker 01

  Yeah, probably.

• 1:24:56Speaker 02

But, uh, you know what else imitates art?

• 1:24:59David Imel?

  Trivia.

• 1:25:02Speaker 02

Nice. Thanks. Before we hit the second button, I just want to say, big shout out and thank you to the amazing audio engineering team running this session right now, whose limiters are so dialed in that I literally couldn't clip my mic when I tried to yell at Andrew earlier. It just doesn't work. But anyway.

• 1:25:21Andrew Manganelli?

And everyone else who helped here set this up, always appreciate it.

• 1:25:24Speaker 02

  Yeah, truly.

• 1:25:25Andrew Manganelli?

There's lighting and camera and I know you like sound so much.

• 1:25:29Speaker 02

I don't know what any of that stuff is.

• 1:25:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Ellis only cares about audio.

• 1:25:32Speaker 02

I only care about audio. And whether you guys were paying attention or not. Guys.

• 1:25:38David Imel?

  Gen lock.

• 1:25:39Speaker 02

Gen lock. That's it. I just care about gen lock. Guys, there's a new thing that they added to the trail loop. And I just want to say, when I was writing this question, I kept being like, I'm calling it the trail loop. It's called the trail band. A trail loop is what you walk on when you do a hike.

• 1:25:54Andrew Manganelli?

Damn, I've been calling it a trail loop this whole time.

• 1:25:55Speaker 02

And I kept changing. Well, it is called the trail loop.

• 1:25:57Andrew Manganelli?

It is called the trail loop.

• 1:25:58Speaker 02

Yeah, I double wronged myself. But what's, what's new with it, guys? What did they? Here, I'll give you a little hint.

• 1:26:03David Imel?

What's the deal with the trail loop?

• 1:26:04Speaker 02

  What did they add?

• 1:26:07David Imel?

  To the trail loop?

• 1:26:08Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 1:26:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Specifically?

• 1:26:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:26:10Andrew Manganelli?

They mentioned this a couple of times.

• 1:26:12David Imel?

I'm not shocked that Andrew knows this.

• 1:26:14Andrew Manganelli?

I miss it every time. It's my favorite band they make, so much so that I have a knockoff garment version of it.

• 1:26:20David Imel?

The knockoff version's gonna add this too, for sure.

• 1:26:23Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, yeah. It might have already had it. I mean, they'll add it just because on the Amazon link, they can add one more thing to the title.

• 1:26:29David Imel?

They're just making sure we didn't miss any emergency things that happened.

• 1:26:33Speaker 02

If you get this question right, I'm gonna be skeptical.

• 1:26:35David Imel?

  I'm getting this wrong.

• 1:26:36Speaker 02

All right, everyone, who wants to go first?

• 1:26:40Andrew Manganelli?

  I think Andrew.

• 1:26:41Speaker 02

I think David. Okay, so why doesn't David go first then?

• 1:26:44David Imel?

  Because I'm wrong.

• 1:26:45Speaker 02

Well, because you put the, the, the different thing.

• 1:26:47David Imel?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:26:51David Imel?

  I wrote magnets.

• 1:26:52Speaker 02

Yes. Actually, did they? No, they didn't add magnets, but they did add magnets to a lot of stuff this year.

• 1:26:56David Imel?

Well, yeah, we'll get to that. Anyway, go ahead.

• 1:26:58Speaker 02

Oh, we didn't talk about the crossbody strap.

• 1:27:00David Imel?

  I know. Hey, hey.

• 1:27:03Speaker 02

We just did. There we go.

• 1:27:05David Imel?

  Look.

• 1:27:05Andrew Manganelli?

  That's fine.

• 1:27:06David Imel?

That's po- it's very popular in Asia.

• 1:27:09Speaker 02

  It has magnets now.

• 1:27:10Andrew Manganelli?

It's popular in a lot of places.

• 1:27:10David Imel?

Yeah, they have a, yeah, crossbody strap has magnets. So that's why I was thinking maybe the trail loop.

• 1:27:15Speaker 02

No, it's, I like the way you think, and you're right, we need, we need more crossbody.

• 1:27:19Andrew Manganelli?

  I thought he was wrong.

• 1:27:19Speaker 02

  Cross- he's wrong.

• 1:27:22David Imel?

  What is the answer?

• 1:27:23Speaker 02

The answer is what Andrew and Mark has put, which is one, two, three.

• 1:27:28Speaker 01

  Reflective thread.

• 1:27:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Material.

• 1:27:30David Imel?

  What does that mean?

• 1:27:31Speaker 02

Technically, if we're being pedantic, you're both wrong.

• 1:27:35David Imel?

  Let's go.

• 1:27:35Speaker 02

Uh, because they refer to it everywhere as a reflective yarn.

• 1:27:40Andrew Manganelli?

I just remember it was like wo- I thought they mentioned it was woven.

• 1:27:42Speaker 02

  But I think-

• 1:27:43Speaker 01

  Yarn's not thread?

• 1:27:44Speaker 02

I think I'll give you the point, Mark.

• 1:27:46Andrew Manganelli?

  I said material.

• 1:27:46Speaker 01

  Well, yarn not a material?

• 1:27:48David Imel?

  Thread is part of matter.

• 1:27:50Speaker 01

The idea is the, uh, the trail loop now has, on the outsides, it's got this little reflective material in it, which will make you more visible.

• 1:27:57Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like they didn't show that in the... Could you, could you see it when you saw it? Like, could you see the reflective thing?

• 1:28:04Speaker 01

I mean, yeah, but it was in like daylight.

• 1:28:06Andrew Manganelli?

I wanna see what it looks like. They didn't show it on the thing, but I thought it was interesting.

• 1:28:09Speaker 02

I wanna see what it looks like patinaed because a lot of the 3M reflective material only lasts like a few years before it's no longer reflective.

• 1:28:17Andrew Manganelli?

You should have updated three times by then.

• 1:28:20Speaker 01

Just get a new watch, bro.

• 1:28:22David Imel?

  How did you erase this?

• 1:28:24Andrew Manganelli?

  My fingee.

• 1:28:25David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:28:26Andrew Manganelli?

Do you, um, do you wanna use my fingee?

• 1:28:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:28Andrew Manganelli?

  You have to.

• 1:28:29Speaker 02

Um, wait, so does Andrew get that point? Yeah, Mark has an answer. I'm, I'm just being a little nudnik over here.

• 1:28:35David Imel?

  Yeah, sometimes magnets are reflective.

• 1:28:39Speaker 01

  Sometimes.

• 1:28:39Speaker 02

  If you polish them with...

• 1:28:42Andrew Manganelli?

I'm pretending like I know the clock.

• 1:28:43Speaker 02

With Genlock, if you polish, if you take, if you take the Blackmagic iPhone accessory and you rub it on a rare earth magnet.

• 1:28:50David Imel?

I just love that Apple will randomly like bring out some random like industry term that 98% of the people that are watching the event have no idea what that means.

• 1:29:00Speaker 02

Not to keep talking about Genlock, but the, the, the really cool part about using an iPhone as a camera is that you can use so many of them with such a small space and power footprint. And so the ability to frame sync 50 cameras like that, 60 cameras, 100 cameras, you can literally make up a number. That is like, that is like, that really opens up the door to a lot of like experimental filmmaking, especially what we do. Like, picture what we could do in Robot Room with 200 iPhones all Genlocked.

• 1:29:29David Imel?

I'm gonna Genlock myself in a room after this event.

• 1:29:32Speaker 02

Hmm. Brandon's here. I'm gonna pass it over to Adam now, cause I've been talking for a while.

• 1:29:36David Imel?

  Second.

• 1:29:37Speaker 02

You don't have to pass it over, cause we each have our own mic.

• 1:29:39Speaker 03

Oh my god. I know, it's weird. So, question number two, but first, quick update on the score. Marquez.

• 1:29:44Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, quick update on the score.

• 1:29:46Speaker 03

  Wait, wait.

• 1:29:47Andrew Manganelli?

Marquez and I were right last week about the 89 on the DXO mark, so update that score.

• 1:29:51Speaker 03

So, last week, the question was, what scored DXO mark did the Pixel have when it launched the first one? You both put 89. That is what it was when it launched. They changed it after to 90. So, a lot of people yelled at me saying that it was 89 and you guys got it right, so fine. You guys get the point. So, question number two. They showed off two new watch faces for the Apple Watch Series 11. One of them was called Flow. The other one was a modern interpretation of a traditional regulator clock. What was that one called?

• 1:30:26Andrew Manganelli?

Also, why the music's playing? You never actually updated the scores.

• 1:30:29Speaker 03

I know, Marquez has four now, Andrew has seven, David has two. What? Yeah, David, come on, what's going on? Whoa. David, get your head in the game, bro. Dang.

• 1:30:38Andrew Manganelli?

He spent all his karma last.

• 1:30:40Speaker 03

Yeah, he wins one trivia and then that's it. He gives up.

• 1:30:44David Imel?

Make sure you give me 30 points in the extravaganza.

• 1:30:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:30:47Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm not getting this right.

• 1:30:48Speaker 03

Flip him a read, what do you got? This question's now worth 30 points.

• 1:30:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh my god.

• 1:30:53Speaker 03

  Who wants to go first?

• 1:30:54Andrew Manganelli?

Did we all write the same thing, actually?

• 1:30:56David Imel?

What'd you write? Oh. I'm wrong. I wrote the wave waypoint face.

• 1:31:02Andrew Manganelli?

That was a cool thing they added. That the always on display could live update with the like one.

• 1:31:09David Imel?

Andrew and I both wrote Hermes.

• 1:31:11Speaker 03

  Hermes?

• 1:31:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:13Andrew Manganelli?

That was one of the new faces.

• 1:31:14David Imel?

It was like the clock town.

• 1:31:15Speaker 03

It was a cool one, but no, that's not the one. This one's called exactograph. Rolls off the tongue.

• 1:31:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Wow, that's pretty cool.

• 1:31:23Speaker 03

It was a cool one, I liked it.

• 1:31:23David Imel?

What was the sync clock or whatever?

• 1:31:26Speaker 03

  Genlock?

• 1:31:27David Imel?

  No, no.

• 1:31:28Speaker 03

  Genlock?

• 1:31:31David Imel?

  Just gonna start saying that.

• 1:31:31Speaker 02

  Did someone say Gen Lock?

• 1:31:32David Imel?

Next year it's gonna be Gen Lock Gen 2.

• 1:31:34Speaker 02

  Oh my god.

• 1:31:35David Imel?

  Gen 2.

• 1:31:36Speaker 01

  2X4.

• 1:31:36Speaker 02

No, it's gonna be next Gen Gen Lock.

• 1:31:38David Imel?

  2Gen 2 Lock year.

• 1:31:41Speaker 01

  I have a question.

• 1:31:41Speaker 02

Why is it always Gen Lock and never Jennifer Lock, huh? Why are we not being formal?

• 1:31:45Speaker 01

If you guys were Apple, how are you? Or if you were betting on Apple.

• 1:31:49Speaker 02

  Ew.

• 1:31:49Speaker 01

What do you think is the next most likely pro-named feature to move to a non-pro device?

• 1:31:56Speaker 02

This podcast is sponsored by Polymarket and DraftKings. That's not true, only allegedly. I think they're gonna...

• 1:32:03David Imel?

  Gen Lock Pro.

• 1:32:04Speaker 02

The next pro... Wait, ask the question again, I was too busy making a bad joke.

• 1:32:07Speaker 01

So ProMotion was the first pro-labeled feature to move to a non-pro-labeled device in the 17, in the 17 Air or the Air.

• 1:32:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:32:16Speaker 01

What is the next, between like ProRes, ProRes RAW, ProRAW Photos, between all the pro-labeled features, what's the next most likely you think they could move?

• 1:32:26Speaker 02

  Profusion. Is that a thing?

• 1:32:28David Imel?

  No.

• 1:32:29Speaker 02

  The cameras.

• 1:32:30David Imel?

  That's pro.

• 1:32:30Speaker 02

That's just called Fusion. And they already, the base, the bases already have that.

• 1:32:34David Imel?

Oh, so it already has it.

• 1:32:35Speaker 01

No, no, no, it's not called Fusion.

• 1:32:36Speaker 02

  But it's not called Profusion.

• 1:32:37David Imel?

  Fusion.

• 1:32:38Speaker 01

  It's just Fusion Camera.

• 1:32:39Speaker 02

  Ah.

• 1:32:39David Imel?

  I think it's gonna be...

• 1:32:40Andrew Manganelli?

You're thinking of that other Fusion thing from a long time ago?

• 1:32:42David Imel?

  Deep Fusion?

• 1:32:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Deep Fusion.

• 1:32:44David Imel?

  No god.

• 1:32:44Speaker 02

What, are there even that many pro features left?

• 1:32:47Speaker 01

There's only like four by name. I think they're all camera. ProRAW Photos.

• 1:32:52David Imel?

  I think they're...

• 1:32:52Speaker 01

ProRes Video, ProRes RAW Video, and Pro...

• 1:32:58David Imel?

  ProLog.

• 1:32:59Speaker 02

ProLog. I think, I think every new iPhone is going to come with a Honda ProLog.

• 1:33:05David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:33:06Speaker 01

I would, I would believe that before Pro.

• 1:33:08David Imel?

I think it's gonna be ProRAW.

• 1:33:10Speaker 01

ProRAW. Yeah, I could see that. You need a lot of storage for ProRes Video, but you can do ProRAW.

• 1:33:15David Imel?

  Yeah, you could do ProRAW.

• 1:33:16Andrew Manganelli?

I'll go and they're gonna announce another pro feature, and that will be the one that comes first.

• 1:33:21David Imel?

They have, they, they eventually have to start moving them over, right? Because like, that's what happens every year, is every single year they take the base iPhone and they take something that was just in the better iPhone from the previous year and they put it in the base iPhone.

• 1:33:34Speaker 01

So they have to be careful about what they name pro, because they have to be sure they're not gonna move it.

• 1:33:37David Imel?

  Yeah, they ran out.

• 1:33:38Speaker 01

  And they just, yeah.

• 1:33:39David Imel?

I'm just surprised that they called it that. Like, they could have called it something else and just said it was worse for some reason.

• 1:33:45Speaker 01

So you guys have all failed. There's actually already one. The A19 Pro is in the iPhone Air.

• 1:33:51David Imel?

  Yeah, but the Air...

• 1:33:52Speaker 02

  Marquez, you don't.

• 1:33:54David Imel?

  But the Air is not...

• 1:33:55Speaker 01

  Is not a pro.

• 1:33:56David Imel?

It's not a numbered, yeah, I guess. But if it started, if it started in it.

• 1:34:02Speaker 01

  It is a non-pro phone.

• 1:34:03David Imel?

Also, it's not, but it is a non-pro phone, but the iPhone Air is not like a numbered phone. You know, like iPhone 16.

• 1:34:09Speaker 01

  I agree.

• 1:34:09David Imel?

  iPhone 17.

• 1:34:10Speaker 01

But I'm just saying, A19 Pro, non-pro phone. Who says the Air isn't a pro?

• 1:34:15David Imel?

  Air Pro Max.

• 1:34:16Speaker 01

The name. Yeah. English. Air Pro. Yeah, okay. Hey, we've been chatting for a while. Yes. Thank you guys for watching and listening. Of course, your regular scheduled programming will continue, but stay tuned for some other.

Waveform was produced by Adam Molina and Ellis Rovin. We are a partner of the Vox Media Podcast Network and our trap music was created by Vane Still.

• 1:34:54David Imel?

  Bingo.

• 1:34:55Speaker 01

And the entire team here at Apple.

• 1:34:56Andrew Manganelli?

And the, yeah, the entire team here at Apple.

• 1:34:59Speaker 01

  Hit it out.

• 1:34:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Very much appreciate it.

• 1:35:15David Imel?

Pulse, pulse, pulse, pulse. Except because of red shift, it takes way too long for the pulse to get through, yeah.

• 1:35:21Speaker 01

  Too deep, David.

• 1:35:22David Imel?

  Sorry. Okay.

• 1:35:23Speaker 01

I don't think I can name all the names.

• 1:35:27Speaker 07
