Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

That's J-I-R-A dot com. You either have one or two alarms, or you have entirely too many alarms. How many alarms do you have in your clock app right now? You want to see? I feel like I know which one you are. Just based on the way you asked me that, I feel like I know which one you are. I feel like you knew before you even asked the question.

• 1:47Speaker 01

Yo, what's up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts, I'm Marquez.

• 1:52Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:52Speaker 01

And I'm David. And this week, you know? I just watched a video about my own voice that someone else made on YouTube. And now I hear my own voice differently in this microphone. Oh, yeah, yeah. And I'm trying to ignore that. Anyway, this week, there's a whole bunch of tech stuff. We're recording this right before iPhone event and Galaxy Unpacked. So by the time you hear this, one of those has happened and one of those is about to happen. There's also some more Pixel 10 camera stuff we want to talk about, along with a Sony Xperia 7 debacle. And we also have peak smartphone season, like just

• 2:26Andrew Manganelli?

  It's just here.

• 2:26Speaker 01

On the horizon. It's right, it's about to happen. It's next week.

• 2:29Andrew Manganelli?

  I mean, it's tech-tember.

• 2:31Speaker 01

It's tech-tember. That's what I should have just said. It's tech-tember, which is very exciting. So yeah, we can sort of just jump right into that.

• 2:39Andrew Manganelli?

Do you know how we know this is peak smartphone season?

• 2:41Speaker 01

  How?

• 2:41Andrew Manganelli?

The whole crew is back today.

• 2:44Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 2:44Andrew Manganelli?

  We are actually all here.

• 2:47Speaker 01

  We did it.

• 2:47Andrew Manganelli?

We are recording on a Tuesday because you would have been out tomorrow, but

• 2:51Speaker 01

Still not back to normalcy, but.

• 2:53Andrew Manganelli?

Not quite, but all five of us are here.

• 2:55Speaker 01

As close as it's ever been.

• 2:56Andrew Manganelli?

No random Mariah or Miles jumping in without an introduction 15 minutes into the episode.

• 3:01Speaker 01

And there's also, everybody who ordered a Pixel 10 now has it. That's true. Including Adam over there. Is that a MagSafe wallet, by the way? That is a MagSafe wallet. I knew it was a MagSafe.

• 3:11Speaker 02

  Pixel Snap wallet.

• 3:13Speaker 01

No, no, no, not officially. Probably not. Not officially. It's probably a MagSafe wallet. That is patina, my friend. That has patina. It's got Apple logos on it.

• 3:21Speaker 02

I'm using it with my, no, no, this one is a Distill Union.

• 3:24Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 3:25Speaker 02

So I've had it for a couple of years. It's got some nice patina, but it works with Pixel Snap.

• 3:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:30Speaker 02

  Branding on branding on branding.

• 3:32Speaker 01

Oh snap. So you're using NoCase on your phone?

• 3:34Speaker 02

  NoCase.

• 3:34Speaker 01

How's the NoCase Pixel 10 life been so far?

• 3:37Speaker 02

  So much better.

• 3:38Speaker 01

Are you the one that bought that like really thin magnet to put on your Galaxy Fold?

• 3:43Speaker 02

Yes, I did the stickers, but those They work until they don't, yeah.

• 3:48David Imel?

It's kind of a hack, yeah. The Pixel 10 does have stabilizing magnets that actually make sure that things stay in place. So, that is better.

• 3:55Speaker 04

Adam, you were sick last week. And you told a pretty funny Pixel story in the kitchen earlier.

• 4:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 4:02Speaker 04

  About while you were sick.

• 4:03David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 4:03Speaker 02

I found the one person in the world who used the temperature sensor on the Pixel 10 Pro and it was I. Because last week I was sick and I was sitting in my room bored and I had a thermometer in one hand and a Pixel in the other. You know what? Let's see how close they get.

• 4:19David Imel?

  How close?

• 4:20Speaker 02

Within a degree. So, it wasn't bad. The actual thermometer said 99, the phone said 98. So, it was like...

• 4:27David Imel?

Is it officially rated for humans yet? Because I remember when it came out, it was not.

• 4:30Speaker 02

  Well...

• 4:31David Imel?

  It's rated for humans?

• 4:32Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't know what rated for humans means, but it does work on humans.

• 4:34David Imel?

When it first came out on like the 8 Pro or whatever phone got it, it was like, you can't officially use this on people.

• 4:40Andrew Manganelli?

I think it wasn't one of the options to...

• 4:42Speaker 02

Yeah, now there's an option for human.

• 4:44Speaker 04

It got the right IP rating.

• 4:46David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 4:47Speaker 04

  It's people.

• 4:47David Imel?

It is funny because 98 is you're fine, 99 is you're not fine.

• 4:53Andrew Manganelli?

  It's literally...

• 4:54David Imel?

  Almost got it.

• 4:55Speaker 04

  Fine line.

• 4:55David Imel?

Almost got it, yeah. And we say that Fahrenheit is better because of its nuance. Fair enough. Andrew, you also have your Pixel 10. You have your lemongrass.

• 5:07Andrew Manganelli?

My lemongrass. I realized we convinced everyone in the studio to call it lemoncello because we were calling it that for so long.

• 5:14David Imel?

Yeah, because it used to be called that.

• 5:15Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, non-Pixel users in the studio were like, I think Tim came up to me, he's like, what is it actually called? Because I've been hearing lemoncello and all that stuff, but I do. Beautiful, yellow.

• 5:25David Imel?

God, in person, it's even worse.

• 5:26Andrew Manganelli?

It's in a blue case right now, just until I get my, I'm specifically getting a ghost case for this color.

• 5:31David Imel?

  Okay, clear, yeah.

• 5:32Andrew Manganelli?

  It's so good.

• 5:34David Imel?

Yeah, it's definitely not. 15% of my diet is true. I really wish I could criticize you publicly, but I can't because I have grass on my laptop. It's just, you know, I could say that's ugly, but...

• 5:50Andrew Manganelli?

It's a nice compare, they, they go well together.

• 5:53Speaker 01

It's a good opportunity for me to show you the best color.

• 5:55David Imel?

  Yeah, that's the best.

• 5:55Speaker 01

Which is, I'm still using the Moonstone 10 Pro. And I actually ended the video with a real prediction for how I think this is gonna go. I'm gonna switch, and I have currently using this phone, I got my E-Sim in it and everything, as my daily driver. And then, within four months, I will get really annoyed with something hardware-related, probably the cameras or battery. And I will switch to a new phone that has way better cameras or battery. And then, I will get really annoyed with that phone's worst software, and I will switch back to the Pixel. And then, I'll get really annoyed with the way the Pixel is aging, and I'll switch back to something else. And that'll all happen within about 12 months.

• 6:28David Imel?

  Okay.

• 6:29Andrew Manganelli?

And then the new versions of both those phones will come out.

• 6:31Speaker 01

  Yeah. Just keep going.

• 6:33David Imel?

You do have the, the XL though, so if you get annoyed with battery, you can at least.

• 6:37Speaker 01

Well, I have it, but I'm using the regular.

• 6:39David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:39Speaker 01

But yeah, I guess the XL, thing is, the XL has a 0.2 or 0.3 inch bigger screen. It only has a 200 milliamp hour larger battery.

• 6:46Andrew Manganelli?

  But it charges quicker.

• 6:48Speaker 01

  That's fair.

• 6:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:49Andrew Manganelli?

And, yeah. With MagSafe, right? Cause it's G22.

• 6:53Speaker 01

It charges wired faster as well.

• 6:55Andrew Manganelli?

  It's wired faster too?

• 6:56Speaker 01

  Yeah, 45 versus 35 or 25.

• 6:59David Imel?

  30.

• 7:00Andrew Manganelli?

Can I talk about a complaint I have with this?

• 7:03Speaker 01

  Yes, you can.

• 7:04Andrew Manganelli?

It is extremely specific, but feels dumbfoundedly stupid.

• 7:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 7:08Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. I have plenty of other complaints, trying to like, get from my, my Samsung S24 to this phone in terms of like, the customization. But a lot of them were just like, weird little things, like the search bar being under the dock. My, before it was switched, I had my dock first with the search bar above it. You cannot change that. I can get used to that. Still, at a glance, can't, you can turn at a glance off, but you still lose the screen, real estate stays there. But my biggest complaint is, in this search bar, if you want to try and customize it, which is something you can, sort of can do. If you've ever been to your Google settings, you can play along with me if you'd like.

• 7:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Go to your Google.

• 7:49David Imel?

  No, it's at home.

• 7:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Go to your Google settings.

• 7:51David Imel?

  While you're driving.

• 7:52Andrew Manganelli?

There's a whole box called customized search widget. Right? You see this? Okay. For those of you who aren't Pixel users, the search bar on the bottom of a Pixel isn't, it has to stay there. It's baked in. You can only change it from light and dark mode. But in this customized search widget, you can do light, dark, device, which does it in theme colors of like Material U expressive.

• 8:13Speaker 01

  That's cool.

• 8:13Andrew Manganelli?

Really cool, really on brand for what they're doing. You can even do custom colors.

• 8:18Speaker 01

  Ew.

• 8:18Andrew Manganelli?

  You can change the transparency

• 8:21Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 8:21Andrew Manganelli?

  of the bar itself.

• 8:22Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 8:23Andrew Manganelli?

You can change this. So there's the microphone icon, Google Lens icon, and now it's been adding one to the right, which you can change the shortcut

• 8:30Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 8:30Andrew Manganelli?

to different things. Want to know what this does? This adds another widget to your home screen. Instead of actually changing

• 8:38Speaker 01

  Wait, so you?

• 8:39Andrew Manganelli?

The search bar on the bottom.

• 8:41Speaker 01

So you can't, and you can't?

• 8:43Andrew Manganelli?

You can't change the search bar on the bottom. It's just device theme, light or dark, can't change the shortcut. Now, if you want to do all those cool changes.

• 8:53Speaker 01

  That's insane.

• 8:54Andrew Manganelli?

It's another widget because everybody wants two search bars on their phone.

• 8:57Speaker 01

  I mean, who about?

• 8:58Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, don't you? This makes no, this is really stupid, right?

• 9:01Speaker 01

Send a screenshot of that to Adam. No, yeah, that is actually kind of dumb.

• 9:04Andrew Manganelli?

  This is

• 9:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:07Speaker 01

  Expressive. It's expressive, Andrew.

• 9:09Andrew Manganelli?

It literally does all the things about the new software and Material 3 expressive, except you can't actually do it.

• 9:16Speaker 01

I thought you'd found a setting where you could change the settings of that bottom search bar. I was like, whoa, that's actually pretty great. Do you want to express yourself by having two search bars for no reason?

• 9:25Andrew Manganelli?

I'm just gonna do a whole page full of different themed search bars.

• 9:29Speaker 01

Lean into it. I like that. That'd be nice.

• 9:31Andrew Manganelli?

So yeah, I think my final thought is as much as I'm excited to be on Pixel, I am enjoying it. I kind of think one UI is more customizable than this UI.

• 9:42Speaker 01

Way more, yeah. Yeah, yeah. They, I think Samsung, even OnePlus's software, whatever, like the Oxygen OS home screens, like they'll all find little things to throw in to let you tweak their home screen more.

• 9:53Andrew Manganelli?

But they're not expressive. And is my expression not customizable?

• 9:57Speaker 01

No. Yeah, there's, yeah, in some ways, little less, little less you can do on the Pixel.

• 10:01Speaker 04

Thirty percent less. This is what they meant when they said there was a thirty percent jump in rebelliousness. They were rebelling against you messing with your

• 10:11Speaker 01

  Rebelling against freedom.

• 10:14Andrew Manganelli?

  That made me really sad.

• 10:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:16Andrew Manganelli?

That just feels real stupid. Please fix that. I would love for my search bar to look

• 10:19Speaker 04

Hold it back down like ten percent rebelliousness.

• 10:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Stupid.

• 10:24Speaker 01

  Stupid. Okay.

• 10:26Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, also.

• 10:26Speaker 01

  Fun for you.

• 10:28Andrew Manganelli?

  It was a joy.

• 10:33Andrew Manganelli?

I have other pixels, something in here, if you guys want to talk about it. And this was, we posted our review. Lots of other people posted their reviews. A lot of comments I saw on ours and others and articles and people have done videos on this is people asking if the Pixel 10 base is worse than the Pixel 9 base phone, specifically about their cameras. Because it seems as though the Pixel 10 has nuisance. They have three cameras, but the main wide is 48 megapixel F 1.7, one over two inch sensor. Is that, and then

• 11:05Speaker 01

  More half inch, yeah.

• 11:06Andrew Manganelli?

When it used to be 50 megapixels, 1.7, one over one, 1.3 inch sensor. I'm terrible at the vocabulary here, but it's the Pixel 9A camera sensor.

• 11:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:18Andrew Manganelli?

Essentially. I do have the base version, but I didn't use a Pixel 9 to compare to, so.

• 11:25Speaker 01

Yeah. So in theory, if you had a Pixel 9 and upgraded to a Pixel 10, you are sacrificing some camera quality to get the rest of the upgrades of the Pixel 10. Which does not look good on paper. That's an easy headline. That does not look great. In my head, it feels like there are people at Google who are like, how do we further separate the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro? And they're like, well, we'll use the 9A cameras in the 10 and then some bigger sensors in the 10 Pro. And that's probably what they did, just to make it a little bit more recognizable of a difference. It's still not very much of a difference between those phones, but that is definitely a bummer. If you had a Pixel 9 and you specifically love the cameras, you would like the 10's cameras less.

• 12:08Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. 95 Google did a video on it and they actually had like an insert right before they posted it of some camera comparisons and it was looking good, almost better in a lot of photos until it hit low light. And it seems like the low light capabilities of the Pixel 10 wide versus the Pixel 9 wide.

• 12:25Speaker 01

  That's what'll happen.

• 12:26Andrew Manganelli?

Yep. Was like, pretty rough. Some of the glare issues were like, it looked like the Pixel 10 had like astigmatism.

• 12:33Speaker 01

  I have seen more.

• 12:33David Imel?

Or I was gonna, I didn't mention it in my 10 Pro review, but there was more glare in the 10 Pro's camera than last year also. Hmm. Interesting. Cause you know how the iPhone at night, when you ever shoot video with like point lights, there's crazy glare? Yeah. I started to get that during the daytime with the Pixel. Although it was a car headlight, so like it wasn't insane, but it was still more than I expected. Interesting.

• 12:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Anamorphic.

• 12:54David Imel?

  Yeah. More anti-flare coatings.

• 12:57Speaker 02

You think this is gonna be a trend moving forward where the base model will always have the A version's sensor of the previous generation?

• 13:05David Imel?

I don't think so. I think that's gonna be a uniquely Pixel thing because the Pixel is almost uniquely lacking in the hardware department compared to some other more competitive flagships. I think it would be really weird if the iPhone 17 had the, what is it? The E? The 16 E's camera?

• 13:24Speaker 02

Oh no, but, well, that's a good point, but I was asking about the Pixel specifically.

• 13:28David Imel?

Oh, and the Pixel? I could see the Pixel continuing. I could see it because they need to order a bunch of those sensors for the A series. And if they can use some of those for the, the next line, then it's useful for them. They save a lot of money that way. Yeah. So.

• 13:40Andrew Manganelli?

I think this is a perfect example of like, it, it calls back to the event of how much it was for like the masses that they were willing to sacrifice sensor quality for the third camera on the base. Because the people who are buying those are probably the like, not us. Well, except for me. I guess I'm an idiot, but.

• 14:01David Imel?

  Couldn't be me.

• 14:02Andrew Manganelli?

But like, yeah, most people aren't gonna be like, oh, that sensor's smaller. They're gonna be like, oh, there's a third camera.

• 14:07David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 14:07Andrew Manganelli?

  And that sounds great.

• 14:08David Imel?

I don't know about you guys, I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I feel like the Pro features that they are adding are very cool. And the team is going hard, like adding all these manual controls and manual mode and stuff. But I feel like the processing every year is getting further and further away from the iPhone. Like, I feel like the iPhone is just starting to run away with it, especially in video, obviously, because the iPhone has always been ahead in video, but like, Yeah. I would rather use like highlight on an iPhone and take a straight RAW photo and edit that. And those RAWs look better to me than the RAWs out of the Pixel.

• 14:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 14:42David Imel?

Cause the RAW, the Pixel can do native RAW. They can, it can save a subsequent RAW plus JPEG. But the RAWs out of the iPhone look way better than they do out of the Pixel. The Pixel 6 RAW looked freaking awesome.

• 14:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 14:56David Imel?

And then it's just gotten worse since then for some reason.

• 15:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, I also.

• 15:01David Imel?

They started doing the whole ProRAW thing, though. I think that that's probably why. Like, they don't call it ProRAW, but they have like a merged, like, some processing in the raw.

• 15:08Speaker 01

On the pixel you're talking about?

• 15:09David Imel?

Yeah, they started that in the 8 Pro.

• 15:12Speaker 01

Yeah. I also think that, I mean, if you just look at straight, like, point-and-shoot process photos, the iPhone, I mean, video, it's not really a contest. The iPhone's just been that much better. But in, in, in flat photos from the iPhone, they just keep, they just keep flattening everything out still. And the Pixel still has the look of like contrast.

• 15:32David Imel?

  The Pixel one.

• 15:32Speaker 01

Yeah, like, they still have the confident, like, you know, contrast.

• 15:36David Imel?

  But it's so much contrast.

• 15:38Speaker 01

But yeah, you look at that from these bigger, newer sensors versus how it used to look when they were using those older, smaller sensors. And it's, it's, it definitely changed. It's just not quite as natural feeling anymore.

• 15:50David Imel?

  Yeah, 100%.

• 15:51Speaker 01

It's a good thing I take all my pictures on mirrorless.

• 15:55Andrew Manganelli?

Well, good, good thing. You're, yes, soon going to be, uh, would you like to explain?

• 16:01Speaker 01

Well, you know, I, I did it.

• 16:04Speaker 04

Oh, you really? This is news to us.

• 16:07Andrew Manganelli?

  You said it this morning.

• 16:08Speaker 01

  Uh, yeah, yeah.

• 16:11Speaker 04

So when does it get here?

• 16:12Speaker 01

  Well.

• 16:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Can you explain?

• 16:13Speaker 01

I, uh, I was, I watched, I, what I did was I had a couple of flights and I downloaded a whole bunch of Hasselblad X2D Mark II reviews to watch on the plane.

• 16:22David Imel?

  Yeah, that's a good idea.

• 16:23Speaker 01

So I watched all the reviews and everyone was like, "It's a great camera, Marquez." And I was like, "Yeah, you're right." So I went back to my B&H tab and I hit checkout. So, uh, I think mid-September is when I'm supposed to get my X2D Mark II. I, I did, I did end up buying it.

• 16:42David Imel?

  X2D.

• 16:43Speaker 01

And I'm very, very, very excited about it. And I also got the 30, the 35 to 100.

• 16:48Andrew Manganelli?

I was just gonna ask what length you're.

• 16:49Speaker 04

  The compact one?

• 16:50Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. Well, it's not gonna be compact. This is a, this is a big, I mean, if you, if you watch these reviews. Like, a lot of them are coming from people who have shot a lot of Hasselblad in the past, and they're, you know, I'm jogging my memory. I'm jogging my memory of all the previous times I've been, when I heavily use the Hasselblad cameras, which is like, okay, the autofocus is slow, it's single shot, it's gonna slow you down, the shutter's gonna slow you down, the whole big clunkiness of this camera's gonna slow you down, but the files are gonna be so worth it, and the raws are gonna be so detailed. And it's gonna be great, but it's like, I wouldn't wanna shoot, you know, regular point and shoot, run and gun, anything else with this. This is just like,

I found a bug on a pedal, and this is, I have 30 minutes, I gotta, I get one photo out of this, right? So, all the reviews are talking about how that was always true, and it felt kind of like an excuse or a crutch, and all the things that they added to this camera, the much better autofocus, they added LiDAR, which works in conjunction with the phase detect and the contrast autofocus, it's much better. There's also AI, eye detection, vehicle detection, face detection, pet detection, and continuous autofocus, most importantly, which makes it incredibly easy to literally point and shoot and track moving objects on a medium format, 10-stop IBIS, 100-megapixel shot.

• 18:11David Imel?

I'm glad that you've figured out an excuse.

• 18:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 18:15David Imel?

Because it was always gonna happen.

• 18:17Speaker 04

When are we gonna start shooting videos on it?

• 18:19Speaker 01

Yeah, it literally doesn't shoot videos.

• 18:21David Imel?

There's no video mode at all.

• 18:23Speaker 01

It would be, I bet it would look sick.

• 18:25David Imel?

At least they officially just scrapped the video mode, because on the X1D, it said "video coming soon" since the beginning, and they never added it. Are you serious? They never added it.

• 18:35Speaker 01

Yeah. Wasn't there a physical button, too? I think maybe.

• 18:39David Imel?

I think there was a switch or something on it, yeah.

• 18:41Speaker 01

Yeah, I think a long, if you go back long enough, there was like a video switch, and you'd switch it, and it would just go, "Mm, not yet."

• 18:47David Imel?

Yeah, it was just like, "Video coming later," and it just never came later.

• 18:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 18:51David Imel?

Yeah, and eventually they're just like, "Yeah, that ain't us."

• 18:54Speaker 01

Yeah, but I do think video from a medium format sensor with 10 stops of IBIS would look sick.

• 19:00David Imel?

I mean, I shoot video on my GFX 100 Mark II.

• 19:04Speaker 01

Do lenses like cooperate with that?

• 19:06David Imel?

Yeah, yeah. Well, I don't need autofocus.

• 19:08Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. Well, imagine if you also had autofocus. That'd be sick.

• 19:13David Imel?

Pretty crazy. My grandmother had wheels.

• 19:17David Imel?

She walked up and down the street in the snow in her bare feet.

• 19:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 19:22Andrew Manganelli?

So after our conversation last week about cameras, I've been on like every used looking at either whatever I can find first, basically MSRP of like a GR3 or a X100.

• 19:33David Imel?

Look at all you guys becoming photographers.

• 19:37Andrew Manganelli?

I've only had to sit next to you for like six years.

• 19:39David Imel?

First I got Alice, then we had Adam, and you guys are, wow.

• 19:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 19:42Andrew Manganelli?

I poked Rich this morning. I was like, that Fuji hasn't moved in a while. If you ever want to sell it, let me know.

• 19:47David Imel?

It really has not. That's what's been there for a long time.

• 19:50Speaker 01

Yeah. Okay. Well, I'm glad you guys are on team.

• 19:54Speaker 04

  I just use my phone.

• 19:55Speaker 01

  Still image.

• 19:56Andrew Manganelli?

I it's fun to just like pay attention to taking the photo. Also, it's fun taking a picture of Lane if I'm being completely honest.

• 20:02Speaker 01

  True.

• 20:03Andrew Manganelli?

I'll borrow the X2D one day.

• 20:05Speaker 01

  Honestly, that's a good test.

• 20:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Print it out life-size.

• 20:08Speaker 01

Yeah, it's a good test. I mean, the.

• 20:10David Imel?

I would not want a photo that high resolution of me as a baby. When she grows up, she's gonna be like, whoa.

• 20:16Andrew Manganelli?

No, when she grows up, she'll be like, why does this look so bad?

• 20:20Speaker 01

Oh, true. Yeah. But we can also talk about this upcoming Samsung event, which has some phones and tablets.

• 20:27David Imel?

It's no longer upcoming when you're listening and watching this.

• 20:31Speaker 04

Didn't they just do an event?

• 20:33Speaker 01

Yeah, they did. There's another one happening.

• 20:35Speaker 04

  And they're both unpacked?

• 20:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Alice, it's Techtemper. Come on.

• 20:40Speaker 01

We know for sure. Is this your first Techtemper, Alice?

• 20:43Speaker 04

I don't remember. This is my, this is my fourth Techtemper with you, Mark has, I think. I do not remember Samsung hitting us with a one-two ever.

• 20:52Speaker 01

This is a pretty unique one, too. Yeah. Yeah, they're doing the FE, the S25 FE.

• 21:00Speaker 01

Essentially a cheaper way to get the S25 experience, but yeah, cheaper. And so they've made a couple sacrifices to get it to be a lower price. It's an Exynos chip. That's kind of the main thing. It's an Exynos 2400, I believe, if my notes are correct. And it's 649.

• 21:16David Imel?

  Wow.

• 21:16Speaker 01

So if you are willing to go $150 cheaper on a brand new phone from Samsung and you want essentially the S25 experience, you still get a 50-megapixel main camera and then a 12-megapixel ultrawide and an 8-megapixel 3X telephoto. It's still IP68, same materials as the S25s. It's 7.4 millimeters thin. It's the same software. It's one UI 8 at launch. It's got all the AI stuff. It's just a little cheaper.

• 21:43David Imel?

  A little cheaper.

• 21:43Speaker 01

  And that's the S25 FE.

• 21:45David Imel?

Yeah, um, the one thing we don't know is whether or not the trifold was announced yesterday.

• 21:50Speaker 01

Yeah, that could be a surprise announcement.

• 21:52David Imel?

  If it is, um.

• 21:54Andrew Manganelli?

All the rumors I'm reading today on Tuesday say, don't expect it this week.

• 21:59David Imel?

  Okay.

• 22:00Andrew Manganelli?

Um, except we are supposed to get one by the end of the year.

• 22:03David Imel?

By the end of the month.

• 22:03Andrew Manganelli?

According to Samsung. Month or year?

• 22:05David Imel?

  Year, according to Samsung.

• 22:07Andrew Manganelli?

  According to Samsung.

• 22:08David Imel?

  Month, according to the rumors.

• 22:09Speaker 01

  Rumors.

• 22:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 22:10Speaker 02

You don't think they could announce it and be like, it's coming early next year or something like that? Or it's going to be out, out by the end of this year?

• 22:17David Imel?

  Hmm, yeah.

• 22:19Andrew Manganelli?

They didn't, I thought they said coming by end of this year or coming this year.

• 22:23Speaker 02

  Yeah, they announced it.

• 22:23David Imel?

  I want it.

• 22:24Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I would assume that ships. I would assume that ships, not just announces. I could see it maybe getting announced at the end of Friday's event or like teased.

• 22:33David Imel?

  One more thing, Thursday.

• 22:35Andrew Manganelli?

But honestly, like October is pretty, what events are coming up in October? None that we know of, right? Get their own month.

• 22:42David Imel?

Well, in September, we've probably got the Meta glasses. That's like in a, that's like a rumor.

• 22:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, their Meta connect is.

• 22:49David Imel?

Is in September, is mid September. Um, I don't know.

• 22:53Speaker 02

  You're missing a big one.

• 22:55Andrew Manganelli?

I would launch it in October, the iPhone.

• 22:56Speaker 02

  Yeah, for September.

• 22:58David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 23:00Andrew Manganelli?

I'd go next week. Damn, we got three dense weeks here.

• 23:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:05Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 23:06David Imel?

  It's September. Well.

• 23:09Speaker 04

What if Apple announces the Samsung trifold?

• 23:12Andrew Manganelli?

  One more thing.

• 23:13David Imel?

  As a one more thing.

• 23:14Speaker 02

  Didn't expect that one, guys.

• 23:15David Imel?

Samsung has innovated. Yeah, I mean, Google would announce the Samsung trifold at a Google event, to be honest.

• 23:23Speaker 01

  Oh, you triggered my Gemini.

• 23:24David Imel?

  Sorry.

• 23:25Speaker 01

  You woke her up.

• 23:26Andrew Manganelli?

What triggered Gemini? Oh, just Google?

• 23:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:30Speaker 02

Do you think that the Samsung trifold will be up to par with what we've seen so far from?

• 23:35David Imel?

  Huawei?

• 23:36Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:36David Imel?

  It'll be better.

• 23:37Speaker 02

  You think it'll be better?

• 23:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:38Speaker 02

You don't think they're playing catch up?

• 23:39David Imel?

The Huawei one, I feel like I'm going to break every time I open it because it opens a weird way.

• 23:44Speaker 02

Don't they have a new one now?

• 23:45David Imel?

They do, but it's the same.

• 23:46Speaker 01

The Mate XP. Yeah, I, yeah, I kind of get the same feeling using the Huawei one. Sometimes you use a device and you just get the feeling that this one was designed to be first.

• 23:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:55Speaker 01

Just as long as it's good enough to get out first, it'll come out.

• 23:58David Imel?

Like the, what was the first foldable phone that technically?

• 24:01Speaker 04

  The Royal Flex Spy.

• 24:03Speaker 02

  Look at me go.

• 24:04David Imel?

  That was like.

• 24:06David Imel?

That was like crack, crack, crack, crack when you would open it and.

• 24:09Speaker 01

  It was like a chiropractor.

• 24:10Speaker 02

  And exhale.

• 24:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:11Speaker 01

Yeah, so it kind of has similar vibes. I do think Samsung is working on a little bit more of a conservative like timeline where hopefully their thing is really, really solid and they're gonna have a bigger possible customer base to ship to and they're gonna Well, I mean, in the US. I guess Huawei ships a lot of phones already, so it's not totally different, but I do think they'll be a little better with their trifold.

• 24:30David Imel?

How much do you think the Samsung one's gonna cost?

• 24:32Speaker 01

Oh, good question. Well, so I guess you could just do reductive math. If you just think S25s are right around a thousand and then Z Fold 7s are dual screen and right around 2,000.

• 24:43David Imel?

  So it's gonna be $3,000?

• 24:45Speaker 01

  Probably somewhere around 3,000.

• 24:47David Imel?

Jeez, can you imagine? But then you don't need a laptop.

• 24:55Speaker 01

  That's the goal.

• 24:56Speaker 04

  Dex!

• 24:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, Adam.

• 25:00Speaker 04

Listen, I love Dex, but I'm not replacing my laptop with Dex.

• 25:03Andrew Manganelli?

Putting Dex on that thing feels pointless because its whole point is to have a giant screen on it.

• 25:08Speaker 01

Yeah, it'll unfold it to like a, like a nine inch screen.

• 25:11Andrew Manganelli?

You're gonna have those like tanning reflectors like as our fold.

• 25:16David Imel?

Dude, this trifold is gonna be bigger than the original, uh, the original Huawei, or no, Asus Nexus 7.

• 25:24Andrew Manganelli?

You're doing great. Oh, yeah. Yeah, for sure.

• 25:26Speaker 01

Uh, the Z Fold's already bigger than Nexus 7.

• 25:29David Imel?

It's gonna be bigger than the Nexus 10.

• 25:32Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 25:33David Imel?

  No, it won't be, but.

• 25:34Speaker 01

I really like the Nexus 10.

• 25:35David Imel?

  Yeah, me too.

• 25:36Speaker 01

Dual front-facing speakers, little soft touch back.

• 25:39David Imel?

  Bring it back, baby.

• 25:40Speaker 01

And 10 is in the plastic at the top.

• 25:42David Imel?

  A lot of money.

• 25:44Speaker 01

  Dang.

• 25:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 25:46Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 25:46Andrew Manganelli?

  No app support.

• 25:47David Imel?

Well, all of this info has already come out, so we're behind.

• 25:54David Imel?

I'm sorry, we're supposed to be on the cutting edge. We are currently on the, uh, the zipping edge.

• 26:00Speaker 01

  And that's my bad.

• 26:01David Imel?

  Yeah, we're closing it up.

• 26:03Speaker 04

That, nice. I was gonna ask, that's good, that's good. The zipping edge.

• 26:07David Imel?

  The zipping edge.

• 26:07Speaker 04

Well, you know what else is kind of zippy?

• 26:09David Imel?

How fast we're about to do trivia?

• 26:12Speaker 04

No. Are we? I messed this up last week.

• 26:14David Imel?

Oh. Are we not doing trivia?

• 26:16Speaker 04

  No.

• 26:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah?

• 26:18David Imel?

  Why not?

• 26:19Speaker 04

  Hit it, Alice! All right.

• 26:22Andrew Manganelli?

  What?

• 26:23Speaker 04

Didn't mess it up this week.

• 26:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 26:26Speaker 04

Uh, so Andrew, as you mentioned earlier, uh, you guys confuse the heck out of everyone in the office calling that thing lemoncello when it's actually lemongrass. However, that is not the most annoying name swap, color name, colorway branding, exercise, action that Google's ever done. Because in the history of pixeldom, there have been not one, not two, but three orange Google pixels.

• 26:57David Imel?

  Orange or yellow?

• 27:00Speaker 01

Orange, yeah. I remember one of them, two of them.

• 27:03David Imel?

Like, does this, is this considered orange to you?

• 27:05Speaker 01

  Is the salmon one orange?

• 27:07David Imel?

Is this considered orange to you?

• 27:10Andrew Manganelli?

Why would this be considered orange?

• 27:12Speaker 04

Why are you pointing to Marcus?

• 27:13Andrew Manganelli?

  That's blue.

• 27:14David Imel?

  No, the inside.

• 27:15Andrew Manganelli?

  No, it's yellow.

• 27:16David Imel?

Ellis, is lemoncello orange to you?

• 27:19Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know, David.

• 27:23Speaker 04

  Is lemoncello orange to you?

• 27:25Andrew Manganelli?

No, I'm asking a clarifying question.

• 27:28Speaker 04

In what world? Take me through the thought process.

• 27:33David Imel?

We have disagreed on crazier things. That's all I'm saying.

• 27:37Speaker 04

  Anyway, Pixel has released

• 27:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 27:40Speaker 04

three orange phones in the history of pixeldom. Uh, I need you to give me all three names for orange.

• 27:48David Imel?

  Is it one point each?

• 27:49Speaker 04

Yes, there are three points to be awarded with this question.

• 27:53David Imel?

Is orange and pink the same thing?

• 27:54Speaker 04

  Dude.

• 27:55Speaker 01

Yeah, there's definitely like a stand time.

• 27:57Speaker 04

  I'm telling you.

• 27:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Well.

• 27:59David Imel?

  I'm just saying.

• 28:00Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 28:01David Imel?

I guarantee you, when you read us the answers, one of them is gonna be pink.

• 28:04Speaker 04

  David?

• 28:05David Imel?

  I guarantee.

• 28:06Andrew Manganelli?

Well, actually, I'll argue that it's...

• 28:09David Imel?

  Okay.

• 28:10Speaker 04

Is the Pixel 6 color, which I will not say the name of right now, do you want that to qualify as an orange?

• 28:17David Imel?

  No.

• 28:18Speaker 01

Yep. I want the availability of the point.

• 28:21Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it's not getting you a negative point.

• 28:23David Imel?

It's fine, it's fine, I've been outvoted, it's fine. It's okay. We live in a democratic room, so.

• 28:28Speaker 01

So we will, we will think about those, and the answers will be at the end, like usual. We'll be right back.

• 28:47Speaker 01

• 31:12Andrew Manganelli?

All right, welcome back. We've got a big Apple rumor roundup we're going to get into, but since we're talking about iPhones, I saw something funny on reels and then I've seen it all over the internet since. I think, David, you said you saw it already?

• 31:23David Imel?

  I also saw it, yeah.

• 31:25Andrew Manganelli?

Have you seen this iPhone alarm app thing? No one's heard. Can you unlock your iPhone? I want to show it to you.

• 31:31David Imel?

  Bang.

• 31:32Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, so we're going to go into the alarms. You're going to start a new one and I want you to scroll and just keep scrolling on the hour side.

• 31:41David Imel?

  Oh, I saw this.

• 31:42Andrew Manganelli?

Of the app. Just keep going, keep going, keep going.

• 31:45David Imel?

  Marquez is scrolling.

• 31:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Keep going.

• 31:47David Imel?

  Just one through 12.

• 31:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Just keep going.

• 31:49David Imel?

  Keep going.

• 31:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Keep going.

• 31:50David Imel?

  Keep going.

• 31:51Andrew Manganelli?

Just keep going as fast as you can. This is riveting. There it is, and it stops. It is not a circle. It is just a really, really long list of numbers, one through 12, in the alarm.

• 32:04David Imel?

  Why is this so concerning?

• 32:06Andrew Manganelli?

  This is really concerning.

• 32:08David Imel?

  That's when you know.

• 32:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Whoa.

• 32:09David Imel?

All technology is just a series of small pins stacked on top of each other. This is held together with duct tape.

• 32:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 32:17Speaker 04

And Sam often thinks we're close to AGI.

• 32:20David Imel?

They can't even make a circle. Wow. That's really funny. Yeah. Is a minute the same way, you think, or no? I don't know.

• 32:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Is it what?

• 32:31David Imel?

The minutes? I just saw that.

• 32:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, I'm not sure.

• 32:33David Imel?

  I'm not willing to try.

• 32:35Andrew Manganelli?

I really want to know why they did that.

• 32:37Speaker 04

If you write code specifically for the Apple Clock app, there has to be a reason. Yeah.

• 32:42Andrew Manganelli?

There's, I mean, it's probably just easier, but.

• 32:44David Imel?

  This is probably.

• 32:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, it stopped.

• 32:45David Imel?

  The minutes end too.

• 32:46Andrew Manganelli?

  The minutes end too.

• 32:46David Imel?

4:39. The list ends at 39.

• 32:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Imagine AM and PM.

• 32:50David Imel?

Is that when, is that when the world ends? Is that like the Mayan, the secret Mayan calendar?

• 32:54Andrew Manganelli?

  4:39.

• 32:55David Imel?

It's the secret Mayan clock hidden in the iPhone.

• 32:58Speaker 04

I wonder, I wonder if it was just a, just a placeholder.

• 33:00David Imel?

  I think what happened, yeah.

• 33:02Speaker 04

Phone companies do that a lot these days.

• 33:03David Imel?

I bet you what happened was that the iPhone, the original iPhone, they like didn't yet have a way to just make it circular, which I don't see why they wouldn't have, to be honest, but.

• 33:14Speaker 01

  What I will say is-

• 33:15David Imel?

It's probably a remnant from that. Nobody ever realized that it was that way still. And they just never changed it.

• 33:21Speaker 01

You only just now in iOS 26 just got the ability to change your snooze duration to not be nine minutes.

• 33:29David Imel?

  Okay.

• 33:29Speaker 01

It's been a decade of the Clock app.

• 33:32Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, the snooze was default nine minutes?

• 33:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:34Andrew Manganelli?

  That feels like an insane-

• 33:36Speaker 01

It's been nine minutes for everyone who's ever had an iPhone for the entire history of time until iOS 26.

• 33:41David Imel?

  The entire history of the-

• 33:42Speaker 01

So anytime anyone's ever snoozed an iPhone, their-

• 33:44David Imel?

  It's perfect.

• 33:45Speaker 01

Their auto, like, brain memory added nine minutes at a time.

• 33:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:49Speaker 01

And that's kind of just like the way it was for forever. And you just got the ability to choose snooze duration in the iPhone.

• 33:55Speaker 04

  No, it makes-

• 33:55Speaker 01

  So-

• 33:56Speaker 04

You never set an alarm for an, like, it's always, there's a five or a zero in the minutes, right?

• 34:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Correct.

• 34:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 34:01Speaker 04

Okay. And there, therefore, with nine minutes of snooze, you have 60 seconds left to get out of bed at a round number.

• 34:08David Imel?

  Exactly.

• 34:09Speaker 01

That's good psychology. Then you have two minutes.

• 34:13David Imel?

And by the time you hit snooze, a few seconds has also gone by.

• 34:16Speaker 04

  You know-

• 34:17David Imel?

And then you gotta get out of bed. So when you're actually standing up, it will be 10 minutes later.

• 34:21Speaker 04

As someone who hit snooze twice this morning, if you're hitting snooze twice, you're not serious enough to be thinking about round numbers, okay?

• 34:28Speaker 01

My hot take is we shouldn't have snooze buttons.

• 34:30Speaker 04

Dude, that is a hot take.

• 34:31David Imel?

You need more, yeah, because you need more urgency.

• 34:36Speaker 01

  Are you-

• 34:36David Imel?

  Okay.

• 34:37Andrew Manganelli?

Can't remember the last time I snoozed in a while.

• 34:39Speaker 04

Wait, I'm sorry, is urgency orange?

• 34:41David Imel?

  Um, I think it's sand.

• 34:43Speaker 01

I was gonna say, before we get into these rooms, there's two types of people, and I would, I would like to hear from each of you which type of person you are. You either have one or two alarms, or you have entirely too [bleep] many alarms. How many alarms do you have in your Clock app right now?

• 34:59David Imel?

  You wanna see?

• 35:00Speaker 01

I feel like I know which one you are.

• 35:05Speaker 01

Just based on the way you asked me that, I feel like I know which one you are.

• 35:08David Imel?

I feel like you do before you even asked the question.

• 35:12Speaker 01

Which, and Andrew, you used to be one, but now I'm not sure.

• 35:15Andrew Manganelli?

Well, the funny thing is, is I had a lot of alarms, but none of them were for waking up.

• 35:19Speaker 01

  Right.

• 35:19Andrew Manganelli?

They were just my, my like test.

• 35:21David Imel?

I did delete a bunch last week because I had a bunch of the same ones.

• 35:24Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 35:25David Imel?

These are, these are the ones I have right now, which is like eight.

• 35:29Speaker 01

  That's not horrible.

• 35:30David Imel?

Two of them say move car. One of them says switch to.

• 35:36David Imel?

Nice. Uh, one of them says get up, one of them says alarm.

• 35:40Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 35:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 35:41Andrew Manganelli?

I have three right now, but these are very old. It's one says New Balance, one says dates for waveform, and one says fire ten.

• 35:51David Imel?

  Okay.

• 35:52Speaker 01

  Good.

• 35:52Speaker 04

Marques, do I understand, are you saying like in the morning when you wake up, you have like an alarm like every three minutes going off? Or are you specifically talking about how with the iPhone, you have to create an alarm and then it gets added to a bank? And then even if it's not active, it doesn't get deleted until you physically delete it?

• 36:07Speaker 01

So it's part that, but it's also part like there are people who are just like, I'm gonna take a nap. Let me just set an alarm for twelve, four twenty, or I'm gonna go remind myself with this alarm. And you just start stacking alarms and you never delete any of them.

• 36:19Speaker 04

  That's what you're talking about.

• 36:19Speaker 01

  What about timers?

• 36:20Andrew Manganelli?

I thought you were talking about.

• 36:21Speaker 01

  Alarms.

• 36:22David Imel?

Cause I have a bunch of timers.

• 36:23Speaker 01

  That's fine.

• 36:24David Imel?

  That's fine.

• 36:24Speaker 01

  Alarms is crazy.

• 36:25Speaker 04

Marques, let me go get my phone.

• 36:26Andrew Manganelli?

Hold on. I thought, Marques, I thought you meant you're either someone who has one alarm and you like wake up immediately, or you're someone who knows when the alarm hits, you're gonna like delete, like stop it, and you have like ten alarms set up for the next hour.

• 36:39Speaker 01

That's another duality of man. Uh, yeah. I, I usually snooze once every day.

• 36:46Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't, yeah.

• 36:47Speaker 01

  No snooze.

• 36:47Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm a non snoozer.

• 36:49Speaker 01

  What, you lazy?

• 36:49Andrew Manganelli?

Also, I have another alarm called lean, and it's a lot harder to snooze.

• 36:54David Imel?

Fair enough. Yeah, my take is that we shouldn't have a snooze function because the entire point of the alarm is to wake up. And when, and when, if I wake up and then snooze, if I sleep for ten more minutes, I feel more tired than the first time I woke up. It's always a trap. So just get up when your alarm goes off like you're supposed to. That's the entire point of the alarm.

• 37:14Speaker 01

You sound like me like a month ago when I was arguing about discipline on the phone.

• 37:19David Imel?

  I, yeah.

• 37:21Speaker 01

  Remember that?

• 37:21David Imel?

Yeah, I do. I don't disagree with you. I don't disagree with you.

• 37:24Speaker 02

No, no, I agree, cause I have no discipline. The thing that I do is put the phone on the other side of the room. So you have to get up to go turn it off. And at that point, yeah.

• 37:33David Imel?

I'm not saying I do this better, cause what I do is I wake up and then I fall back asleep.

• 37:38Speaker 01

  Right.

• 37:38David Imel?

I don't get out of bed.

• 37:39Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 37:40David Imel?

Like, I just don't think that we should have the capability.

• 37:43Speaker 01

I also think humans like naturally, uh, become more comfortable with whatever is happening in their surroundings. So I'm curious if that's ever backfired where the alarm across the room one day just isn't enough to get you out of bed.

• 37:56Speaker 04

  No, it's it's really annoying.

• 37:58David Imel?

  Every time?

• 37:58Speaker 04

Especially because I I live with my fiance, obviously, so I have to get up before. So she yells at you? Cause she'll be pissed. It does backfire sometimes, though, when it's like a weekend and I forgot to like set it off and it goes off at like 5 a.m.

• 38:10Andrew Manganelli?

Or like if you have a Monday one, yesterday was Labor Day. Like I had things like notifying me that were normal workday things.

• 38:17David Imel?

I love waking up at normal time on a holiday. And then realizing you get to go back to sleep.

• 38:23Andrew Manganelli?

I'll say, I love my watch alarm, but if I happen to be sleeping at like the perfect point where my hands are close enough together, like under my pillow on my stomach or something and the alarm goes off.

• 38:35David Imel?

  Quiet.

• 38:35Andrew Manganelli?

I think just like second nature hits the button immediately and then it's an hour past when I'm supposed to wake up.

• 38:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 38:43Speaker 04

Wait, while Ellis tells us about his alarms, we also need to check in on his battery life.

• 38:47David Imel?

  Well, were you charging it?

• 38:48Speaker 04

  Charged my phone.

• 38:49David Imel?

  Yeah, that's why.

• 38:51Andrew Manganelli?

  It's still only 80.

• 38:53Speaker 04

  It's it's it's less than 80.

• 38:56David Imel?

How long were you charging it for?

• 38:57Speaker 04

I started charging it right before we started taping, so at 2. Uh, so it's been on the charger for an hour and it was off the charger between 8:30 and.

• 39:08David Imel?

  It should be full.

• 39:11David Imel?

It should be full. By the way, Peter McKinnon on Threads two nights ago was like, just found the iPhone mini in my drawer. Insane that Apple made this. I kind of want to use it again. Anybody else there using this? And I wanted to tag Ellis, but he doesn't have a thread.

• 39:25Speaker 04

  Yeah, threads. Yeah, 76%.

• 39:29Speaker 04

  Really, uh.

• 39:30David Imel?

How many alarms do you have?

• 39:31Speaker 04

Okay, so I just want to say, I don't, I don't set any alarms. Like I use the iPhone's wake up, wake up time.

• 39:39David Imel?

  What?

• 39:39Speaker 04

Like, like my phone has an alarm, it might.

• 39:41David Imel?

  The built in.

• 39:42Speaker 04

It turns off notifications at 11:15 and an alarm goes off at 7:30. Okay. Every day.

• 39:48David Imel?

  But no other alarm?

• 39:49Speaker 01

  Only one alarm needed.

• 39:50David Imel?

Wait, what about when you have other stuff going on?

• 39:52Speaker 01

  They need an alarm for?

• 39:54David Imel?

Yeah. Do you use like the reminders app or anything?

• 39:57Speaker 01

  Oh, Lord.

• 39:58Speaker 04

  No wonder your battery doesn't.

• 39:59Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 40:00Speaker 04

  Oh, my God!

• 40:02Speaker 01

Ellis is the second time person.

• 40:03Speaker 04

I got so tired of having to create an alarm for every random time that I needed stuff. That's so much harder. That I just leave it, I leave an alarm for pretty much every minute of the day until the evening.

• 40:15Speaker 01

I know people like this and I'm like, I don't know, when you have to scroll to find the right alarm, I just feel like that's too much.

• 40:21Speaker 04

No, no, no, no, no. When you create an alarm, you gotta scroll through that end, that, that not endless list. It's the same thing. I'd say I'm just scrolling once instead of on three different sliders. Was Ellis here for making fun of me for folders on my dock? No.

• 40:36Speaker 04

You're gonna make fun of me because of the alarm? I'm not going to because you didn't make fun of me. I'm just saying. No, no, no. No, please. I was just gonna say, one of those things is more insane. One of those things is more insane. What, you, oh, you look at your dock every time you go to your home screen? I never set alarms. I guess that would kind of beg for a big part.

• 40:53Speaker 01

Yeah, I feel like you set them all the time.

• 40:56Speaker 04

  No!

• 40:57David Imel?

Looks like you set them a lot.

• 40:58Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 40:59Speaker 04

Soon you guys are gonna make fun of me because of all the lead in my apartment or something. Some of the, uh, some of the alarm names are pretty good, too. I don't know what they're about in retrospect.

• 41:06Speaker 01

  You have a 4 a.m., a 4:07 a.m., a 4:20 a.m., a 4:50 a.m.

• 41:09Speaker 04

Because I, I don't want to create a new alarm for every.

• 41:13Speaker 01

So much nuance to these. 5 o'clock, 5:06.

• 41:17Speaker 04

I just, it's the 5 o'clock. I needed to be like a 5:06 for some reason. Actually, I did remember earlier when I was like, you always set an alarm for a round number. I guess I don't even do that, so.

• 41:27David Imel?

  Circadian rhythm, baby.

• 41:29Speaker 01

Well, in, in other iPhone news, uh, I'm gonna turn your screen off so it doesn't die. In other iPhone news, we are, we are expecting, uh, some new iPhones to come out, which Ellis is gonna preorder. Yeah, we're, we're, we're around that time of year. It's September, it's September, so the Sep-, the September Apple event has been announced. It's next Wednesday as you listen to this, and we are expecting some things, mostly based around the iPhone 17s. Sorry, next Tuesday. Good call.

• 41:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 41:57Speaker 01

Uh, and we're expecting mostly iPhone 17 stuff. Most of it is pretty similar to, I mean, this could be yet another iterative year for the iPhone before a maybe more interesting year with a folding iPhone. But depends on how you think of the Air. Depends on how interesting that is to you.

• 42:14David Imel?

I mean, we did get a design. It seems like we're getting a design change.

• 42:17Speaker 01

  So a small design change.

• 42:18David Imel?

It's not much, but at the same time, in the Apple ethos, this feels like something.

• 42:23Speaker 01

Yeah. In iPhone world, you know, when I reviewed the Porsche 911, I said the same thing. And then when I reviewed the iPhone a couple of years ago, I compared it to the Porsche 911. It's so important of a product to this company that any tiny little change that they make to this product is monumentally important and will be scrutinized and analyzed and will have massive implications for the rest of the entire company's products. So they don't tend to change very much about the iPhone. And so when there is a little bit of a design change, or a little bit of a philosophical change, or a lineup change, like a new iPhone, like the Air gets announced, we're gonna make a big deal about it because, you know, this is some statement from Apple about the future of the phone, whatever. But yeah, it's just, it's minor incremental updates to the iPhone.

• 43:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:04Speaker 01

So, yeah, what are we expecting here?

• 43:06David Imel?

Yeah, so I put together sort of a rumor roundup, you might say, but not like the spray, you know, that Monsanto got sued for, like, a lot. Okay, so, anyway, there's the pros. Okay, we're gonna start with the pros.

• 43:22Speaker 01

iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro.

• 43:24David Imel?

Yeah, okay, so we, everyone's saying, oh, it's a huge design change, it's crazy. You know what they did? They took this little, this little glass piece and they moved it over here. They extended it.

• 43:35Speaker 01

  Kind of like a visor.

• 43:36David Imel?

And then they, yeah, yeah. And then they took the flash and the microphone and the lidar, is that lidar, right?

• 43:45Speaker 01

  Uh, yes, still lidar.

• 43:47David Imel?

Yeah. And they, they put it on the right side. So now, it is a rectangle. Um, I guess a square is also a rectangle, but it is specifically a rectangle and not a square. And it goes all the way across the device.

• 44:00Speaker 02

Okay, I have a question for you.

• 44:01David Imel?

  Yes.

• 44:02Speaker 02

Remember when the leaks started happening of the iPhone notch? And that started coming out and everyone was freaking out? And then they announced it with the dynamic island, so everyone's like, eh, okay. Do you think they're gonna have some sort of, like, thing, software-wise, that they announce with this that will make it seem more okay?

• 44:22Andrew Manganelli?

I was trying to find a video we made.

• 44:24Speaker 01

Do you watch videos in class right now, Andrews? I think that, my take was that they added that to look more like more glass because they wanted to play off the liquid glass thing.

• 44:35Andrew Manganelli?

So you think it's like purely an aesthetics thing?

• 44:37Speaker 01

Yeah, it kind of feels like it. This stack of the phone change feels pretty purely aesthetic to me. The only thing I could possibly see them arguing is that a bigger cutout on the back of the phone maybe could have some better cell signal or whatever, maybe with millimeter wave. I don't think that's actually what they're gonna say, but yeah.

• 44:59David Imel?

Yeah, I don't know how they're gonna justify it. I mean, there is a rumor that they're going to now have a 48 megapixel. All three cameras are going to be 48 megapixels this year. So it is the first time that they've all been that resolution. I don't think that you need more glass in order to make it that, although, you know, this LiDAR camera and this flash do take up space on the inside. So it is possible that parts of the camera module are larger in certain aspects. That could be interesting. The Pro is, the Pro Max is supposed to be a little bit thicker this year for a bigger battery. So it's possible that they actually differentiate the thickness and battery a little bit more this year.

• 45:39Speaker 01

You know, that's a really nice thing to do is make the big phone thicker when you're also planning on introducing a thin version.

• 45:46David Imel?

That's what I was thinking. So apparently it's only gonna be on the Max, which is interesting to me. I thought that they would, should make both Pro, both Pro phones thicker and then the air will feel even thinner than it actually is.

• 45:59Speaker 01

Yeah, but if you're Apple, you've got to like stratify the lineup and give people a reason to climb up. So if you climb up from like a regular phone to a Pro, you get better cameras. But if you climb up from a Pro to a Pro Max, you also get better battery.

• 46:11Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it'll physically be the latter. If you stack the three phones next to each other, you can walk up.

• 46:16Speaker 01

  Yeah, exactly, exactly.

• 46:19David Imel?

Uh, there's supposed to be a 24 megapixel selfie camera this year because most of the manufacturers are making high resolution selfie cameras. And potential move back to aluminum.

• 46:30Speaker 01

From, so we're at titanium now.

• 46:31David Imel?

Yeah, because we've had titanium for two years.

• 46:33Speaker 01

Which we got to from stainless steel, which we got to from aluminum.

• 46:38David Imel?

  Bingo.

• 46:39Speaker 01

  Okay, so we're back.

• 46:40David Imel?

  We're back.

• 46:41Speaker 01

But is it a circle, or is it like the clock gap where we just keep going?

• 46:44David Imel?

  It's a really long list.

• 46:45Speaker 01

There's something else, a really long list.

• 46:46Speaker 02

By the way, I found the answer to that. Apparently, a loop is more complex to code.

• 46:52David Imel?

  I'm sure it is.

• 46:53Speaker 02

So just coding a straight list is easier.

• 46:54Andrew Manganelli?

They're a trillion dollar company. Let's not give them a pass on that one.

• 46:58David Imel?

A list is pretty easy to code. Okay, and then, like we said earlier in last month, there may be a vapor chamber situation going on.

• 47:09Speaker 01

Yeah. That could also be a Pro Max only thing, or is that crazy?

• 47:13David Imel?

Uh, it could be, I gotta say, with how hot Liquid Glass has been running for me, like, this update is, it makes the, the phone get really hot.

• 47:24Speaker 01

Yeah, you know what, it's been interesting reading some of the coverage about Liquid Glass and all the beta updates we've been seeing because there have been, obviously, aesthetic differences that people have been tracking between beta 1, beta 2, beta 3, but there's also been graphical intensity differences and battery life differences that people have also been tracking. And so we see like the obvious ones that make headlines or like, are a fun tweet or whatever, where it's like, they frosted it, they unfrosted it, they refrosted it. Cool, but the amount that some of these animations hit your battery

• 47:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:55Speaker 01

has also varied dramatically between betas as they try to lock this down and optimize it. And obviously, they want to make it as efficient as possible, but it is kind of curious seeing like, they've committed to this bit, so now they need to optimize all of the stuff going on.

• 48:09David Imel?

Well, that's what kind of freaks me the hell out, as we're about to move to iPhone Air. How bad is the battery life gonna be on that if it's been pretty bad on Liquid Glass on the Pro Max that I'm using?

• 48:21Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm on, so are you on the public beta now, or still developer beta?

• 48:25David Imel?

I'm still on developer beta 8.

• 48:26Speaker 01

Okay, so I'm on, uh, public beta on my iPhone and dev beta 8 on my iPad. My iPad's getting nuked.

• 48:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 48:35Speaker 01

I went from like 70 to 45 watching a YouTube video, which is crazy. But my iPhone on the public beta has been much more stable battery-wise lately. So I'm curious about that too, not sure if it means anything, but...

• 48:49Andrew Manganelli?

Can we put Alice's phone on public beta?

• 48:51David Imel?

What do you think his percentage battery is now?

• 48:54Speaker 01

Oh, it's actually the same. Nice. I thought it was just gonna get cruised up. Plummet as we sat here.

• 49:00David Imel?

Yeah. Well, speaking of the iPhone Air, the rumors are it's going to be 5.5 millimeters thin. It is going to have a 6.6 inch display. It will have a single 48 megapixel camera on the back. Standard A19 chip, so not the Pro chip, which I assume will have, it will not run as hot theoretically. Bloomberg is also reporting that it may have ProMotion.

• 49:23Speaker 01

  What?

• 49:23David Imel?

  Yeah, and a dynamic island.

• 49:25Speaker 01

  Weird, but okay.

• 49:26David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 49:27Speaker 01

  Great.

• 49:27Speaker 02

Is ProMotion not for pros anymore?

• 49:29David Imel?

Well, I'm wondering if they might call it like ProMotion Lite or something and just make it not 120, like maybe a variable refresh rate.

• 49:39Speaker 02

  ProMotion?

• 49:40David Imel?

  60 to 120.

• 49:41Speaker 01

  Oh, interesting.

• 49:42David Imel?

  Air Motion.

• 49:43Speaker 01

See, this is one of those things that's right on the line for, is Apple going to want to even address or explain this to the masses? Like the difference between LTPS and LTPO? I think for regular people, well, this is not even arguable. For most regular people using these phones, the difference between 60 and 120 or 1 to 120 is imperceptible. So should they even bother?

• 50:06David Imel?

I don't even think that they would say that. I think that in the presentation, they would say, it now does 120 Hz and not mention that it's 60 and 120 instead of 1 to 120. I think that's what they would do.

• 50:17Speaker 01

I think they wouldn't change the branding. I think they would say it's ProMotion because it goes up to 120. And then we'd have to discover that it's 60 to 120 instead of 1.

• 50:24David Imel?

Maybe it is 1 to 120 and they had to do it because the battery life was so bad when it was 60 to 120 that they put it at 1. Because if it's gonna have an always on display, they're gonna want it to refresh one time a second, you know?

• 50:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:38David Imel?

So, yeah, we'll see. I don't know, because I don't think Apple has ever brought a Pro monickered feature to the regular models.

• 50:46Speaker 01

  Right.

• 50:47David Imel?

But it is one of those things where the iPhone has been ridiculed every single year since ProMotion was invented for still having 60 Hz on the regular iPhone.

• 50:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:57David Imel?

  For the price they charge.

• 50:58Speaker 01

And they've kept that true. They've kept ProRes video, they've kept ProMotion, they've kept ProRAW photos, they've kept everything with the word Pro in it for only the Pro phones.

• 51:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 51:09Speaker 01

So that would be the first time they did something different.

• 51:12David Imel?

Yeah, yeah. The Air is also expected to use the Apple C1 modem, which lacks 5G millimeter wave connectivity.

• 51:20David Imel?

Cool. Uh, it's supposed to cost around $900, which is, you know, it's kind of right in between there.

• 51:28Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, that's what I, the plus was, right?

• 51:31David Imel?

No, the plus was eight hun- nine hundred, nine hundred?

• 51:36Speaker 01

I think that was eight hundred. Or no, eight hundred for the base, nine hundred for the plus, and now it's nine hundred for the pro, or for the air. That makes sense.

• 51:42David Imel?

Just go to apple.com, literally right now, shop iPhone 16 plus.

• 51:46Speaker 01

  It's $799, $899.

• 51:48David Imel?

Yeah, so, yeah, eight hun- so it's just replacing the plus. So it seems like they're basically just trying to keep it just as desirable as the plus was. I think the plus was like a horrible selling phone last year, the standard plus. The Pro Max sold really, really, really well. The Pro sold better than they expected, and then the standard sold pretty well, but the plus like barely sold. Which was a weird thing for them because they only make the plus because generally the big phones sell better.

• 52:16Speaker 01

  Replace the mini.

• 52:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Replace the mini.

• 52:17David Imel?

Replace the mini, but it turns out that awkward middle child just like never sells well in the price ladder, I guess.

• 52:23Andrew Manganelli?

What size are they gonna go in two years when the air doesn't work?

• 52:27Speaker 02

  Mini.

• 52:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Again?

• 52:29David Imel?

  It's a really long list.

• 52:31Andrew Manganelli?

  It's landscape.

• 52:34Speaker 01

Go straight to trifold from there.

• 52:36David Imel?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, true, true. Uh, yeah, and then so colors on the Pro are supposed to be black, white, dark blue, and orange.

• 52:47Andrew Manganelli?

I'm so excited for the orange.

• 52:49David Imel?

  The orange is insane looking.

• 52:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Or like pink?

• 52:52David Imel?

  Orange.

• 52:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Like?

• 52:53David Imel?

  Like definitively orange.

• 52:56David Imel?

  No, it's orange.

• 52:58Speaker 01

We've started seeing people do the videos on the models and people get their hands on them. It seems like it's like very orange.

• 53:05David Imel?

I, yes, but if you remember, do you remember desert titanium?

• 53:10Speaker 01

  Desert, uh...

• 53:11David Imel?

  Desert titanium?

• 53:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Band-aid?

• 53:14David Imel?

Hey, this is the first phone I've ever cracked, by the way. I know. Anyway, the early models and leaks of this were brown.

• 53:25David Imel?

Do you remember that? A little bit. We did a whole thing. Are they making a brown iPhone?

• 53:30Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, I made that waveform thumbnail and I think I put the throwing up emoji. Great, great CTR.

• 53:38David Imel?

I'm just saying that the color renders that we end up getting are often quite off from what they actually end up looking like. Fair enough. So it's, it's very possible that it's not orange, but it's, you know, sand.

• 53:49Speaker 04

To me, I've never seen this car in person as, has barely anyone. But to me, the iPhone orange is like the McLaren Senna orange, like it's just darker and browner.

• 54:01David Imel?

Senna orange, is that like McLaren papaya orange or a different one?

• 54:04Speaker 04

  Is that, uh?

• 54:05Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't.

• 54:05Speaker 04

It's the color of the McLaren Senna.

• 54:07Andrew Manganelli?

Oh yeah, this is like more of a copper.

• 54:09Speaker 04

  Yeah, it's like coppery.

• 54:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:12Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know. Well, the models, yeah, are very different.

• 54:15David Imel?

Yeah. Anyway, then the air is supposed to come in black, uh, black, silver, gold and light blue. Kind of like a baby blue. This is the year of baby blues. Yeah, because we've got that laptop. A lot of light blue phones. Okay. And then a regular iPhone, new colors, ProMotion, not that different. If they wanted that to sell better, it probably won't, which is funny. Well, you said ProMotion in the regular iPhone? Yeah, they, so they said, well, the rumor right now is the Pro iPhone, the, all of the iPhones are supposed to have ProMotion. And, uh, okay, yeah, bring it on. That's the rumor. It's about damn time.

• 54:49Andrew Manganelli?

Do you think all the iPhones will also have the visor?

• 54:53David Imel?

  No, only the pros.

• 54:54Andrew Manganelli?

Only pros. Well, and the air has like its own visor.

• 54:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:57Andrew Manganelli?

So like the regular iPhone will still have the current camera bump situation.

• 55:01David Imel?

That's what the rumor is and the models that I've got out so far. Uh, Apple Watch Ultra 3 is supposed to have a larger display.

• 55:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Even larger?

• 55:09David Imel?

Even larger. It will now have support for satellite texting, uh, because the Pixel, you know, the Pixel Watch has that now, the satellite SOS messaging. Potentially a high blood pressure indicator. So I can know when I'm so angry at all of you.

• 55:27Andrew Manganelli?

We can't record because it's just beeping the whole time on this.

• 55:32David Imel?

Uh, the Ultra, sorry. The Apple Watch 11 will also have the satellite texting and blood pressure indicator, according to rumors. And the SE, they're going to announce a new one theoretically. Rumor mill, apparently.

• 55:46Andrew Manganelli?

The way you're saying it, it sounds like you know everything. It sounds like you're trying not to pretend that you don't know.

• 55:52David Imel?

Everyone, everyone always thinks that we have Apple stuff weeks ahead of time. We literally find out when you do.

• 55:57Speaker 01

Apple is the company that doesn't pre-brief anyone. And yeah, I posted a picture on Twitter today that it was from an iPhone 16 Pro. And a whole bunch of comments were like, this is from a 17, isn't it?

• 56:08Speaker 04

Sorry, I just want to say, Apple actually does us one dirtier than not telling us anything. Where they'll, they'll like text you more heads and be like, like a PR person will text you and be like,

• 56:18Speaker 04

in three weeks, we'll have something.

• 56:22Speaker 01

  You down?

• 56:23Speaker 04

You're gonna like it. And no, you'll be like, can you tell me anything? And they'll be like, you should buy a plane ticket. And you're like,

• 56:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:31Speaker 04

  Yeah. And they're like,

• 56:32Speaker 01

  And then they're like,

• 56:33Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 56:33Speaker 01

It's the screening of F1 in Apple.

• 56:38Speaker 04

They won't even tell you for like six hours before they'd be like, so that thing that we've been hyping you up for?

• 56:43David Imel?

  Immersive video.

• 56:44Andrew Manganelli?

  We have new leather cases.

• 56:46Speaker 01

This is so accurate. Like seven times out of 10, I feel like I have a pretty good handle of what they're going to tell me. And three times out of 10, I'll show up and I'm like, oh, I'm just gonna leave.

• 56:57Speaker 01

This is not what I need to be doing right now.

• 56:58David Imel?

Yeah. Anyway, the Apple Watch SE, it seems like, apparently, I don't know this for sure, but they're going to change from aluminum to plastic and they're going to market it to kids instead of, you know, being, because the SE has always just been like the affordable edition.

• 57:14Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 57:15David Imel?

But now it seems like, okay, there's not enough difference anymore between, because the SE, the last SE was the, in the Apple Watch 6 chassis, which just happened to have smaller bezels, basically. And that was kind of the main thing. And it was missing like a few features. But now the SE might move to plastic and we marketed towards kids.

• 57:34Speaker 01

  Plastic to me, I mean,

• 57:37Andrew Manganelli?

  To me, a plastic one-

• 57:38Speaker 04

More like SC, am I right?

• 57:40Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know.

• 57:41Speaker 04

  The iPhone 5C.

• 57:42Speaker 01

  Oh, yes.

• 57:43Speaker 04

  Like the last plastic one.

• 57:44Speaker 01

  Last one, yeah.

• 57:45Andrew Manganelli?

But a really cheap Apple Watch with cellular to give to a kid instead of giving them a phone, but still being able to like contact emergency services honestly feels like a great-

• 57:55Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 57:56Andrew Manganelli?

Cause there's, you can't distract yourself as much on that.

• 57:59Speaker 04

  No.

• 58:00Andrew Manganelli?

No, I bet, I like, I can already say like, I got my phone in seventh grade because I started playing sports at different schools and like have an emergency thing. Lots of parents I think are buying their phones. Kids that can do so much more now because of a situation like that. But if you can't fiddle around on a watch as much as you can on a phone.

• 58:17Speaker 01

Yeah. I heard two really interesting stories recently. One, I forgot who was telling me that their high school or whatever, the school that they came from banned smartphone, like banned phones. So the kids can't have phones. They put them in a locker before they go to school.

• 58:32Andrew Manganelli?

Or those little like locked bags that they have to unlock at the end of the day.

• 58:34Speaker 01

So they're not allowed to have a phone. Obviously the kids all have burners, but it is what it is. And then the other one is like, I, I'm thinking, this kind of makes more sense the more I think about it. Obviously, plastic is like a bummer of a headline. Yeah. But there is this whole huge market of these cheaper location texting, et cetera, type of watches that people are willing to get their kids before they get them a smartphone. And I think Apple can compete there if the price is also lower. It'd have to be like $99. Yeah. If you switch to plastic and you're going to aim for this market, obviously, okay, it's Apple. They're going to be the premium one in that market, but it can't be $250. It has to be cheaper than that. Yeah. So I kind of wonder if that's what they're going to do. They're just going to go, all right, the SC is just all the way down here. It's the entry level. Your four-year-old is

• 59:17Speaker 01

going to finally love iMessage. They're going to get their first phone and guess what? It's going to be an iPhone. Yeah. And then you're in. So I could see them actually going for that market.

• 59:25Andrew Manganelli?

And do you know what they'll say? $99, you don't want to make sure your kid's safe for just another $1.50?

• 59:31Speaker 04

  Oh gosh.

• 59:32Speaker 01

Are they gonna have like a sob story?

• 59:33Speaker 04

  That's the funniest.

• 59:35David Imel?

  Oh.

• 59:35Speaker 04

I, and I, I do think you had a million dollar idea though, which is a plastic app cellular Apple Watch that has

• 59:43Andrew Manganelli?

  It's pretty much been done.

• 59:44Speaker 04

  A phone and Apple Music.

• 59:46Andrew Manganelli?

There's those old phones that were like four buttons on it and it was just four phone or four numbers you could call and an emergency service.

• 59:53Speaker 04

I feel like a, a child slash teenager could get all their socializing done with something like that and also avoid

• 1:00:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Endless scrolling on Instagram.

• 1:00:01Speaker 04

Yeah, rain rot, evil group chats.

• 1:00:04Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, there are people out here trying to make their watch their primary device, so.

• 1:00:08Speaker 04

  That's true.

• 1:00:08Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, I'm only buying Lane an Apple Watch SE and an Apple Vision Pro.

• 1:00:15Speaker 01

  That's all she needs.

• 1:00:16David Imel?

  That thing is heavier.

• 1:00:18Speaker 01

The Apple Vision Pro is heavier than her body. She's like Really work on the neck muscles with that. Weirdly, the only place I've ever in the wild seen an Apple Vision Pro is on a plane or in the airport. That's the only place I've ever actually seen it.

• 1:00:31David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:31Speaker 01

Have you ever seen one not related to like

• 1:00:34Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, like in a cafe or something.

• 1:00:35Speaker 01

An airplane? I've never seen that.

• 1:00:36David Imel?

  No.

• 1:00:37Speaker 01

  Huh.

• 1:00:37David Imel?

  Okay.

• 1:00:38Speaker 01

  Interesting.

• 1:00:38David Imel?

We got some new stuff. Uh, AirPods Pro could be getting an update, could be adding heart rate monitoring, which they already have in the Power Beats Pro 2.

• 1:00:45Andrew Manganelli?

Wasn't it, couldn't you not listen to music at the same time? When you were doing the heart rate monitoring?

• 1:00:52Speaker 04

Yeah, because music would make your heart rate go up, bro. You'll, you'll have such a good time.

• 1:00:55Speaker 01

I think that was true at launch. I don't know if they patched that with a software.

• 1:00:58David Imel?

  Does it have to monitor?

• 1:00:59Andrew Manganelli?

I thought there was something weird where it couldn't.

• 1:01:01Speaker 01

  There was a headline.

• 1:01:02David Imel?

Yeah. Well, there may be a new H3 chip, not sure what that would do, but it would do something. Redesigned smaller charging case with no pairing buttons. So I'm assuming they're going to have some sort of, I don't know, different way to pair it like NFC or something, which would make it really hard to pair to an Android phone.

• 1:01:22Speaker 01

It might make it hard. I mean, it might just trigger Bluetooth pairing, maybe.

• 1:01:26David Imel?

  Cause like, well, what would?

• 1:01:27Speaker 01

  The NFC chip.

• 1:01:28David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:01:29Speaker 01

Like if you, like, uh, there's a lot of NFC chips now where you like, uh, even the old Sony WH1000 whatevers used to have like an NFC chip and it would Bluetooth pair it to your Android phone.

• 1:01:38Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, even my like nothing headphones, I just open them and my.

• 1:01:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's fast pair.

• 1:01:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:43David Imel?

But that's like a, that's like a dedicated Qualcomm thing that they have. Yeah, Apple has their own version of that in the H chip, so.

• 1:01:50Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I guess with my power, my Beats Pro, I have to hold the button down to connect them.

• 1:01:54David Imel?

Yeah. So, we'll see. I remember it was like a year ago that we saw all of those mock-up AirPods cases that had like the screen on them, but I haven't heard any news of anything related to that recently, so whether or not they scrapped it, or if that's just coming later, I'm not sure. Um, and then one thing that I didn't write down, because I know you're not gonna care, uh, apparently Apple Vision Pro may, may get the, uh, the 5, the M5 chip.

• 1:02:21Speaker 01

  I'm just kidding.

• 1:02:23David Imel?

Yeah. So, yeah, uh, I don't know why they're still making them. They probably have a lot of stock that they could just sell instead of putting a new chip in it.

• 1:02:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:32David Imel?

But, that's sort of the rumors. I think it'll be interesting to see what new features come out on the phone. I want, I want to know about the new like video features that the iPhone gets, and the new photography and video features, because that's always like really fun. Like, they did the studio quality mics, uh, they, you know, if you want to call them studio quality. They've done the, you know, they, they did ProRes at first, and then it was ProRes RAW, and then it was, uh, then you got ProRes Log and all this stuff. Like, every year, they kind of like up the video game more and more and more and more. So I'm just very curious what they bring to it this year. I think that'll be pretty cool.

• 1:03:07Speaker 01

Same. I do plan on shooting whatever autofocus video comes out after the event, or whenever the iPhone reviews come out with the iPhone, just so we can see how much better it's gotten. So subscribe, this is a nice plug to the autofocus channel.

• 1:03:18Andrew Manganelli?

  And Waveform.

• 1:03:19Speaker 01

  And of course Waveform.

• 1:03:20Andrew Manganelli?

  And Waveform.

• 1:03:21Speaker 01

You must already be subscribed to Waveform, though, obviously.

• 1:03:23David Imel?

  I don't know.

• 1:03:25Speaker 01

  A lot of people.

• 1:03:25Andrew Manganelli?

Plug in the other channels before you plug ours.

• 1:03:28Speaker 01

Yeah, that's my bad. Well, now you're subscribed everywhere, so it's all good.

• 1:03:30David Imel?

  Yeah, so.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:31David Imel?

After this week, you will know, and so will we. And we will be recording at Apple Park.

• 1:03:38Speaker 01

Looking forward to that, because it'll be cool.

• 1:03:40Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, wait, do it again, more exciting, though.

• 1:03:41David Imel?

And we'll be recording. At Apple Park.

• 1:03:46Speaker 02

That's what it's gonna sound like.

• 1:03:49David Imel?

It's gonna be reverb-y as hell. Sick. Cool.

• 1:03:53Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:03:53Speaker 02

Wait, sorry, Marquez, what's it gonna be?

• 1:03:55David Imel?

  Reverb-y AF.

• 1:03:59David Imel?

  Nice.

• 1:03:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Throw it autofocus again.

• 1:04:02David Imel?

  Adam, can you help it?

• 1:04:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Can you hit the button?

• 1:04:04David Imel?

  Trivia time.

• 1:04:07David Imel?

  Vibe shift.

• 1:04:08Speaker 02

Trivia. Alright, October 4th, 2016. Do you guys know what happened that year?

• 1:04:12David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:12Speaker 02

  What happened?

• 1:04:13David Imel?

  Pixel.

• 1:04:14Speaker 02

  Not the trivia question.

• 1:04:14David Imel?

  Pixel one.

• 1:04:15Speaker 02

Correct. The original Pixel, announced October 4th, 2016, had a DXO mark. That was the best score in camera.

• 1:04:24Speaker 01

  I remember the DXO score.

• 1:04:25David Imel?

Cause I got a brain, bro. Is that the question?

• 1:04:27Speaker 02

That's the question. What was the DXO?

• 1:04:29David Imel?

  Yo, I remember this.

• 1:04:30Speaker 04

What is wrong with you, Bree? You remember the exact day and DXO score of this phone? And you don't know the iPhone's like default ringtones?

• 1:04:42David Imel?

  We have different priorities, Ellis.

• 1:04:44Speaker 02

Do you guys want a bonus question?

• 1:04:46David Imel?

  Was that the question?

• 1:04:47Speaker 02

  That was the question.

• 1:04:48David Imel?

  What was the DXO score?

• 1:04:49Speaker 02

What was the DXO score of that one? Of the Pixel, first one? Pixel one.

• 1:04:53David Imel?

  Did Marquez get it right?

• 1:04:54Speaker 02

I don't know. He wrote it down.

• 1:04:55David Imel?

I wrote it down, but I didn't share it. Okay. But we can get it. Yeah.

• 1:04:58Speaker 02

We can do a bonus. There was another phone that year that got the same score later that year.

• 1:05:04David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:05:04Speaker 02

Hmm. Do you remember what that phone was?

• 1:05:06David Imel?

  Well, wait, P20 Pro.

• 1:05:07Andrew Manganelli?

  That's actually what I was gonna say. It's a P20 Pro. Sorry.

• 1:05:12Speaker 02

  That wasn't it, so.

• 1:05:13Andrew Manganelli?

  It wasn't it?

• 1:05:14Speaker 02

  So you still have hope.

• 1:05:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 1:05:16David Imel?

P10 Pro? No, it's this one right here. P30 Pro? Hey.

• 1:05:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, it's P30?

• 1:05:23David Imel?

That's, I'm pretty sure it was.

• 1:05:25Andrew Manganelli?

It was the like bluish one, right?

• 1:05:27Speaker 02

Y'all were getting no more hints.

• 1:05:28David Imel?

That was the bronze colored. Hmm. I think it was like the blue and purple one.

• 1:05:33Andrew Manganelli?

  That's what I'm thinking of.

• 1:05:34David Imel?

Or, yeah, the, the P30 Pro was like the purple and blue. What was the bronze P40 Pro? Yeah, it was, yeah.

• 1:05:39Andrew Manganelli?

  This is P20.

• 1:05:39David Imel?

  P20 Pro.

• 1:05:41Speaker 02

  So we were wrong.

• 1:05:41David Imel?

That was such a beautiful phone.

• 1:05:43Andrew Manganelli?

  But that's not it.

• 1:05:43David Imel?

Remember when we had colors like that? Okay. Remember when we had colors like that? Yeah, colorful phones? We don't. Two colors on one phone? Even if it's orange now, it's not this.

• 1:05:53Speaker 02

Have you not seen Andrew's Lemongrass Piscatorade phone?

• 1:05:56David Imel?

Ellis, Ellis, look at this beautiful.

• 1:05:59Speaker 02

  Yo, is that orange?

• 1:06:02David Imel?

This is a great time to take a break before this descends into madness.

• 1:06:05Speaker 02

  We'll be right back.

• 1:06:19Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the gold tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks.

All right, welcome back. We have a little Sony debacle because I found this headline the other day that just said Sony explains what it's doing to ensure the Xperia 1.7 debacle never happens again. And I sent this in Slack and I think every single one of us made the same joke, which was the what? This Xperia 1.7 came out and then everyone continued to make the joke, maybe that's what the debacle was.

• 1:08:47David Imel?

That we didn't know it came out.

• 1:08:48Andrew Manganelli?

That we didn't know it came out. Sony has never been great at marketing. Mark has made an entire video called Why People Don't Buy Sony Smartphones. The TLDR is usually they like announce a phone, they send it to reviewers, have an embargo, and then no one sees that phone, or at least the US doesn't see the phone for like six months.

• 1:09:07David Imel?

The embargo is in February and it gets launched at B&H exclusively in September.

• 1:09:14Andrew Manganelli?

It's like they're trying to not sell the phone. Yeah. So we have that video if you want to see it, but that's actually not what happened here. Apparently after being announced in May and then released in June, they had multiple reports of the phone just straight up rebooting, shutting down, and then not turning back on.

• 1:09:31David Imel?

  That's a debacle. So I like to pay $1,700.

• 1:09:35Andrew Manganelli?

Apparently it was a bad circuit board and they completely paused the sales of the phone globally. They have fixed it. They started a replacement program. Phones are now starting to launch at the end of August or now it's September and you can get the Sony Xperia 1.7, which this is a brutal way of learning that there is a Sony Xperia 1.7.

• 1:09:55David Imel?

  How much does it cost?

• 1:09:56Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm not totally sure.

• 1:09:57David Imel?

  1,400 euro.

• 1:09:59Andrew Manganelli?

It seems like pretty standard Sony phone, like great display. It's up there with everything, good cameras, 5,000 milliampere battery.

• 1:10:09David Imel?

  Headphone jack.

• 1:10:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Headphone jack, most important.

• 1:10:12David Imel?

  Yeah, 1,630 US dollars.

• 1:10:16Andrew Manganelli?

1,600 bucks. Yeah, that's also pretty par for the course for Sony phone. Pretty damn expensive for really great specs.

• 1:10:23David Imel?

  Variable zoom.

• 1:10:24Andrew Manganelli?

It's there, but too bad if you can't turn it on.

• 1:10:29David Imel?

  That would be tough.

• 1:10:29Andrew Manganelli?

That would be tough. Sony did say they are going to work on improving their quality control in the future.

• 1:10:34David Imel?

Wish they had that in the beginning.

• 1:10:37David Imel?

That's a great thing to work on.

• 1:10:39Andrew Manganelli?

I have one other quick story that I think a few people in this room, not that they know anything about it, but are gonna be pretty sad about. YouTube is now flagging accounts on premium family plans that aren't in the same household.

• 1:10:54David Imel?

Are you guys all on a family plan?

• 1:10:56Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 1:10:57Speaker 01

  What?

• 1:10:58David Imel?

How many of you guys are on a family? Are you all on the family plan?

• 1:11:03Andrew Manganelli?

No, I'm pretty sure they've talked about on the.

• 1:11:05Speaker 04

I could not join Adam's family because I've already part of David's family. And they're like, why you got two families?

• 1:11:11David Imel?

You're outing us right now, bro? You get out us live on the.

• 1:11:14Speaker 04

I'm beeping all of them. I checked, I checked my email. I have not gotten the, we caught your ass email yet, so we're still good.

• 1:11:21David Imel?

Yeah, but you're publicly telling everybody now.

• 1:11:23Speaker 04

I'm privately telling you five, four, and there just happens to be some 4K cameras and microphones in front of me. We can cut it. They're not gonna come and get us.

• 1:11:32David Imel?

Yeah, they won't come and get us.

• 1:11:33Andrew Manganelli?

Well, they're coming to get everyone. That's the whole point of me posting this year.

• 1:11:37David Imel?

There were posts in like 2019 that said Spotify is gonna shut you down if you don't live together. I'm still on a Spotify family plan with my college roommates, okay?

• 1:11:46Andrew Manganelli?

Why are you outing yourself right now?

• 1:11:47David Imel?

  $2.

• 1:11:48Speaker 01

Soon as this gets published, you're gonna get an email.

• 1:11:50Speaker 04

  No.

• 1:11:51Andrew Manganelli?

Well, so like, we all saw, we all had the Netflix thing where eventually Netflix used to brag about being able to share accounts.

• 1:11:57David Imel?

  That's true.

• 1:11:58Andrew Manganelli?

Then they decided to hold on a minute.

• 1:12:00David Imel?

And they saw a very large rise in subscribers after they actually, yeah, it actually did work.

• 1:12:05Speaker 04

We're not even sharing an account.

• 1:12:07David Imel?

  I know.

• 1:12:08Speaker 04

  They're just tearing families apart.

• 1:12:10David Imel?

So they're gonna tear our family apart.

• 1:12:11Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, if you don't know, you can have up to five people in a premium family plan, which is $23 a month. So some people, again, don't know any, might split up that $23 a month and be in a family plan despite being under the same rooftop.

• 1:12:26Speaker 01

Saying they would lie about being family.

• 1:12:29Andrew Manganelli?

It does say, well, that's the thing about that.

• 1:12:32David Imel?

You know what's funny? I don't have any cousins, but I got a whole lot of families. I got, I got my Spotify family, I got my YouTube family, I got my Apple family.

• 1:12:42Speaker 04

David, to save $8 a month, will you marry me?

• 1:12:49Speaker 04

Tax reasons. Not even tax reasons, just so we can keep our YouTube family plan together. Yeah, we have to live together, though. That's the problem, right?

• 1:12:57Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it still doesn't matter. You'd have to live.

• 1:12:58Speaker 04

Well, I don't want to live with you, but I'd marry you.

• 1:13:01Speaker 01

You all have to be in the same household.

• 1:13:03Andrew Manganelli?

You have to be in the same household.

• 1:13:04Speaker 04

That's an even wackier definition of family.

• 1:13:07Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, that's the thing is I think it's past the family section of this because that just means a roommate is more of a family than my mom is to me right now.

• 1:13:17Speaker 04

Yeah, we can just go to Olive Garden because when you're there, you're family. That's true. That's the loophole. If you, if everyone goes to Olive Garden, they can't take away our YouTube premiums. That's right.

• 1:13:27Speaker 01

So I'm seeing if you do get caught, you get an email that says your YouTube Premium family membership will be paused. It appears you may not be in the same household as your family manager and your membership will be paused in 14 days. Once your access is paused, you'll remain in the family group and you can watch YouTube with ads, but you will no longer have YouTube Premium benefits.

• 1:13:45Speaker 04

Do you think they know that from like Wi-Fi networks? Just IP and yeah, Wi-Fi, that's. David, do you use a VPN? No. Do you? No, but I think you would be the one because you're the household. You're the head of house.

• 1:13:57Andrew Manganelli?

Why are we saying this? Why are we saying this on a popular YouTube show? This is a bad idea.

• 1:14:05Andrew Manganelli?

  But yeah, I, if.

• 1:14:06Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:14:07Andrew Manganelli?

  You know,

• 1:14:09Andrew Manganelli?

obviously that like it said in the rules, you're not supposed to do this. This still feels.

• 1:14:14Speaker 04

Why'd you look at me when you said that?

• 1:14:15Andrew Manganelli?

I didn't. I looked at the camera. It still feels weird and I feel like a lot of people aren't going to get kicked off of this plan and then go, oh yeah, I'll pay $14 a month because they wanted, only wanted to do it because it was cheaper. I'm someone who pays $14 a month. I personally think it's worth how often I use it.

• 1:14:32Speaker 04

So you're saying you hate your family?

• 1:14:36Andrew Manganelli?

But on the other side, it just, calling it a family plan just feels stupid because obviously a lot of people have actual.

• 1:14:44Speaker 04

It's called a group plan or something.

• 1:14:46Andrew Manganelli?

Well, household plan, exact same address plan. It's, that part's weird and.

• 1:14:53Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know. Also, the more I was like, reading this, I was remembering all the features you get like offline downloads and picture to picture and like screen off. Those should just be features on YouTube. It's really stupid to lock those behind it. I think just no ad saves me enough time. I know, but yeah, I don't know.

• 1:15:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:13Andrew Manganelli?

I love YouTube premium, but I just don't think that many people are going to convert. They're just going to get kicked off and I think.

• 1:15:20David Imel?

  It works for Netflix.

• 1:15:22Andrew Manganelli?

So that is the other thing.

• 1:15:23Speaker 02

A lot of people that use YouTube and like turn off the screen, put it in their pocket.

• 1:15:27David Imel?

  Yep. Yeah.

• 1:15:27Andrew Manganelli?

So. So was this let everybody take advantage of it for a long time and then realize they can't live without those features and ads anymore?

• 1:15:36David Imel?

Way to do it. It's the classic way to do it. Amazon today announced basically the same thing as well. They just ended a shared a prime free shipping outside your home.

• 1:15:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 1:15:47David Imel?

  So, yeah.

• 1:15:49Andrew Manganelli?

I think that was slightly different though, because I think that was like a specific feature, right? Like if I had prime, I would like let you use it. It's not like you were logging in and pretending to be me. It was like I could share the prime shipping feature.

• 1:16:02David Imel?

Yeah, but you're not logging, Ellis is not logging in pretending to be me. He has a separate YouTube account in our family plan.

• 1:16:08Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, no, I mean, that's what I mean. Like, I think it is slightly different.

• 1:16:11Speaker 04

I love watching YouTube. I don't think I could watch YouTube without premium and I don't know if I love YouTube enough to pay fourteen dollars a month for it.

• 1:16:22David Imel?

I think you do. I think it's worth it.

• 1:16:24Speaker 04

  I'll be real.

• 1:16:24Andrew Manganelli?

It's probably, it's my most, I pay for Netflix and Disney plus and those things and the, I get the most bang for my buck out of the YouTube. But that's just my personal viewing.

• 1:16:35Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:16:35Andrew Manganelli?

I watch a lot of YouTube.

• 1:16:37David Imel?

We talk about the, you know, companies artificially pushing their pro and non pro products further and further apart. I think YouTube and YouTube premium might have the biggest delta in experience between each other. Like YouTube is almost unusable without.

• 1:16:49Andrew Manganelli?

  It's rough.

• 1:16:50David Imel?

  Premium slash no ads.

• 1:16:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:52Speaker 04

And some of that, some of the ads that I see on FreeTube is like.

• 1:16:58David Imel?

  Bad.

• 1:16:58Speaker 04

  Like Twitter level.

• 1:17:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:01Speaker 04

  Like, oh my god.

• 1:17:02David Imel?

  Yeah, like pills.

• 1:17:04Speaker 04

Like, like a six hour, like, like supplement infomercial. Yeah. Well, I get, I get whenever, like, I see ads on YouTube all the time for like amulets that increase your.

• 1:17:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, well, those are.

• 1:17:14Speaker 04

  Your something.

• 1:17:15David Imel?

  Power Balance Pavilion.

• 1:17:17Speaker 04

  Yeah. Oh, my god.

• 1:17:19Speaker 02

I just think offline download should be a regular feature.

• 1:17:21Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:17:21Speaker 02

I think that's crazy. And I think there's plenty of people who take a flight once a year that would like to download some YouTube videos.

• 1:17:29Speaker 04

That's how they get you. Well, for legal reasons, I have no family.

• 1:17:35Speaker 02

No, for legal reasons, you have for for legal reasons, we should be cutting this entire section.

• 1:17:40Speaker 04

For legal reasons, David and I are roommates in his one bedroom apartment. That's right. But we're not married yet. But we're not married yet. But Google doesn't care about that.

• 1:17:48Speaker 02

  Doesn't care about that.

• 1:17:49Speaker 04

They just care that we sleep in the same bed. Yeah. So why is it even called the family plan? It should be called the roommate. Yeah. Oh, my God.

• 1:17:57Speaker 02

Checkmate, Google. Yeah, I do think, though, you guys are kind of underestimating how crappy the experience is without premium. Because like, for example, YouTube videos are getting longer, AKA this podcast, which is probably at like almost two hours now. If I forget to uncheck the ad automatic ads on the YouTube video, the first like dozen comments will just be like, this is unwatchable because like every two minutes, there will be an ad. It's like ridiculous.

• 1:18:25Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it's even if you just check mid rolls to be enabled, because sometimes you do that to do it in the ad slots when we don't have like a regular Vox ad. And then I'll just like automatically add them and I'll look and the whole first page is within the first like five minutes of the video, which means that's how there were like seven ads.

• 1:18:43Speaker 04

  Front loaded.

• 1:18:43Andrew Manganelli?

It's crazy. Yeah, it's really annoying.

• 1:18:46Speaker 04

  We should go on strike.

• 1:18:47Andrew Manganelli?

Or we should go on trivia.

• 1:18:49Speaker 04

  Yeah, it's better. Yeah.

• 1:18:52Speaker 04

We're going on strike by not posting YouTube videos.

• 1:18:57Speaker 04

Then we all lose. All right, guys. We were just on the same page about something for about 10 minutes. And now we're about to get into a giant argument about what is and isn't orange. So everyone chug your Red Bulls and get ready to get fired up because there have been three orange pixels in the history of the pixel. Please write down all three names Google gave to the color orange.

• 1:19:22Andrew Manganelli?

You have to spell them correctly.

• 1:19:26Speaker 04

  I don't.

• 1:19:26Andrew Manganelli?

  That's definitely spelled wrong.

• 1:19:28Speaker 04

What could you have possibly spelled wrong?

• 1:19:31Andrew Manganelli?

That means that answer is not correct.

• 1:19:35Speaker 04

Do you think one of them is like, "Orangutan"?

• 1:19:40Speaker 01

  Fanta.

• 1:19:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Orangutan would be a great.

• 1:19:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:43Speaker 04

Are those orange? I don't think so.

• 1:19:45Speaker 01

  Orangutans? No.

• 1:19:47Speaker 04

Wait, I got one, yeah, one, no.

• 1:19:48Speaker 01

  Orangutans?

• 1:19:49Speaker 04

I wouldn't know how to spell it.

• 1:19:50Speaker 01

They're like animal. They're like burgundy. It's definitely not orange.

• 1:19:53Speaker 04

  Flip him and read.

• 1:19:57Andrew Manganelli?

  They're kinda orange.

• 1:19:58Speaker 04

All right, who wants to go first? David, why don't you go first?

• 1:20:02Speaker 01

Okay. I put almost orange. Okay. I put sand. I put orange.

• 1:20:09Andrew Manganelli?

I also put orange. Thought there might be a curve ball in there.

• 1:20:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:20:12Andrew Manganelli?

I put clementine. Probably spelled wrong. I put coral.

• 1:20:16Speaker 04

  A coral.

• 1:20:17Speaker 01

  Okay, I knew that was.

• 1:20:18Speaker 04

  The Pixel 7A.

• 1:20:20Speaker 01

  That's pink.

• 1:20:23Andrew Manganelli?

I actually thought it was the four.

• 1:20:25Speaker 04

Do I gotta get the phone? Should I get the phone out of the closet?

• 1:20:28Speaker 01

Oh, I remember the coral one. Never mind. No, it was the, that's the six, right?

• 1:20:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Seven. He said seven.

• 1:20:32Speaker 01

Seven? Yeah. That one is actually very.

• 1:20:34Speaker 04

  7A, specifically the 7A.

• 1:20:36Speaker 01

That one was poorly named, but it is very orange. The phone itself is very orange.

• 1:20:39Speaker 04

  Thank you.

• 1:20:39Speaker 01

They used to have orange, just the button would be orange. Like the Pixel 2 had an orange accent button. Remember that?

• 1:20:44Andrew Manganelli?

That was the panda. The panda had an orange button. That was awesome.

• 1:20:47David Imel?

I feel like that's more of a coral color.

• 1:20:49Speaker 01

  That's why it's called coral.

• 1:20:50David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:51Speaker 01

But yeah, anyway. Uh, okay, I put, um, I put not pink.

• 1:20:59Speaker 01

Okay, I put very orange. And I put.

• 1:21:02Speaker 04

  Very orange is so close.

• 1:21:03Speaker 01

  Barely orange.

• 1:21:05Speaker 04

All three of those are very close, Marquez.

• 1:21:06Speaker 01

  Dang.

• 1:21:07Andrew Manganelli?

  That's very on their vibe.

• 1:21:08David Imel?

What? Almost orange is not close?

• 1:21:10Speaker 04

  The Pixel 7A was coral.

• 1:21:13Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:21:14Speaker 04

The Pixel 6 came in a color called kinda coral.

• 1:21:20Speaker 02

And the Pixel 4 came in a color called oh so orange.

• 1:21:25David Imel?

It was literally oh so orange.

• 1:21:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 1:21:27Speaker 02

That is what it was called. And I think that's really funny because if you put a question mark and a comma in that thing, it goes, oh, so orange.

• 1:21:36David Imel?

  Which is what I said.

• 1:21:37Andrew Manganelli?

Wow, I had that phone and I didn't know that's what it was called.

• 1:21:40David Imel?

You had the orange one too?

• 1:21:41Andrew Manganelli?

It was so good. It was one of the best colors.

• 1:21:45David Imel?

  Actually, if you look back.

• 1:21:47Andrew Manganelli?

Because it had black rail, matte black rails.

• 1:21:49David Imel?

Yep. Yeah, that phone and the texture, it was a squeeze phone and it had solely which destroyed the battery.

• 1:21:55Andrew Manganelli?

  That was terrible.

• 1:21:55David Imel?

  And didn't work.

• 1:21:56Andrew Manganelli?

  That part was terrible.

• 1:21:56David Imel?

If you watch the Android Authority YouTube video from that review, it is me and Adam in Central Park in 2018 or whatever.

• 1:22:03Speaker 02

Was that the same video we got kicked out of the Museum of Natural History?

• 1:22:06David Imel?

Yeah, but there's a cool segment from the Museum of Natural History.

• 1:22:09Speaker 02

  We got the shot, baby.

• 1:22:10David Imel?

  We got the shot.

• 1:22:10Speaker 01

  Sounds like story time.

• 1:22:12Speaker 02

  Next time.

• 1:22:12David Imel?

  Gotta watch it.

• 1:22:13Speaker 02

On a future episode of Waveform. All right. Quick update on the score.

• 1:22:16Andrew Manganelli?

  You look a lot different.

• 1:22:17Speaker 02

Marquez with two. David with two.

• 1:22:22David Imel?

  No, that's.

• 1:22:23Speaker 02

  Andrew with five.

• 1:22:27Speaker 02

All right. My question was, the original Pixel was announced by DXOMark as having the best camera score for a smartphone. What was that score? Bonus point, what was the other phone that year that also scored the same score?

• 1:22:42Andrew Manganelli?

Didn't we say that out loud already?

• 1:22:43Speaker 02

  You were wrong.

• 1:22:47David Imel?

  Idiot.

• 1:22:50Speaker 02

The phone you guys mentioned came out in 2019.

• 1:22:56David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:22:58David Imel?

  Shoot. Okay.

• 1:23:00Speaker 02

What do you got? Let's go David first. What'd you say?

• 1:23:05David Imel?

  Put 97?

• 1:23:07Speaker 02

  Nope.

• 1:23:07David Imel?

  Is it too high?

• 1:23:08Speaker 02

  And what phone?

• 1:23:09David Imel?

  P30 Pro Huawei.

• 1:23:11Speaker 02

  Nope.

• 1:23:12Andrew Manganelli?

  We all put P30 Pro.

• 1:23:13Speaker 02

All right, well, you all got that wrong.

• 1:23:15Andrew Manganelli?

  I put 89.

• 1:23:16Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:23:17Speaker 01

  I also put 89.

• 1:23:18Speaker 02

Oh, you both putting it in?

• 1:23:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Was it 87?

• 1:23:20Speaker 02

It was 90. And the other phone was the HTC U11, also got a 90 that year.

• 1:23:27David Imel?

  Yeah, that's weird.

• 1:23:28Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:23:28David Imel?

  That's really weird.

  That wasn't a good camera.

• 1:23:31Andrew Manganelli?

That was before the Pixel came out though, wasn't it?

• 1:23:33Speaker 02

Came out slightly after, I think.

• 1:23:34Speaker 01

  Sony got a higher score.

• 1:23:36David Imel?

  Wow.

• 1:23:37Speaker 01

I did not think that was, okay, wow.

• 1:23:40Speaker 01

  Shout out to DX Home.

• 1:23:42Andrew Manganelli?

The Pixel 4 was so close to being perfect at 100.

• 1:23:46Speaker 04

  Yeah, almost, almost did it.

• 1:23:48Speaker 01

Sometimes you gotta get a 90 and brag about it.

• 1:23:51Andrew Manganelli?

When Marquez was so sure and I saw I had the same answer as him, I was like, let's go. We're having a good day.

• 1:23:57Speaker 02

  I think.

• 1:23:57Speaker 01

Don't worry, you still have way more points than.

• 1:23:59Speaker 02

I forgot. I was Googling one of the phones you guys mentioned and it came out in 2019. And this was from 2016, 2017, something like that.

• 1:24:05Speaker 01

  I'm boarding in 58 minutes.

• 1:24:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:24:41Speaker 02

Hold on, I'm ready. Wait for my tweets by Adam, Lina, Els, Rob, and Robert, and me, Bobby, and I'm wearing a garage music video. I've seen some.

• 1:24:46Speaker 01

  That's not that fast.

• 1:24:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Bingo.

• 1:24:48Speaker 01

  We got time.

• 1:24:49Andrew Manganelli?

I was going for my auctioneer.

• 1:25:06Speaker 01

I will say we had Gatorade this weekend at our tournament and it was red and blue, but they were, uh, strawberry and like blueberry or something like not what you'd expect from red and blue Gatorade.

• 1:25:20Speaker 02

  What about Cool Ranch?

• 1:25:21Speaker 01

  It's usually like fruit punch.

• 1:25:22Speaker 04

It's red and blue, but not like red and blue.

• 1:25:24Speaker 01

Yeah, it was weird. It looked like the regular red and blue and then you drank them and you'd be like.

• 1:25:27Speaker 02

I thought the blue was supposed to be Cool Ranch, not blue.

• 1:25:30Speaker 04

I love that, David. That's the best thing you've ever said. Cool Ranch.
