show notes for this podcast, as well as the Smoking Tire Instagram description, link in bio. So, get tickets, come see us this Thursday and Friday in Texas, and if it goes well, it's the kind of thing we'll keep doing, and coming to you other places throughout the country. So, let's get to it. Alright folks, on this episode of the podcast, I give you my five favorite Indy watches from the Intersect Watch Show. Zach and I review the Mazda 3 in manual gearbox, that's right, the last stick Mazda 3. My engine is having a hard time getting through

• 1:25Matt Farah?

customs, an update on the Myers Manks, and some fabulous questions from our patrons. It's the Smoking Tire Podcast, let's go.

• 1:36Matt Farah?

Well, yeah, but mine is more elegant. That's true. Yeah, it's like formal. Yeah. Like Hannah and I, when Hannah had COVID, how we dined. The opposite. Yeah, six feet away. Long dining table, I was like... You have the butler bring the salt? Yeah, I feel like I was in The Gilded Age, which is a show I am like ashamed to say that I watch. Oh, I think it's the actual age. No, it is, but also it's the television show, and it's like a show for my mother. And for some reason, at some point out of boredom, I started watching episode one, and now I am in and current.

• 2:12Matt Farah?

Why is it for your mother and not for you? Oh, because it's about like... These like terrible, awful, scheming, high society people in the I turn of the century, I think it's probably just before the turn.

• 2:28Speaker 01

Is it Billions but with old clothes and horses?

• 2:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, but like it's more based around like the women of the society and the men are like kind of side characters, except for one husband that has, who's like a shitty railroad baron, like, you know.

• 2:46Speaker 01

  Got it.

• 2:46Matt Farah?

But like, yeah, I don't, I don't know why I watch this show. It's like, I don't watch a lot of shows, but for some reason I'm watching this shit.

• 2:53Speaker 01

We're trying to watch The Bear, which is a comedy. And I, like, it's a great drama. It's a great show, but once I learned, and this was years ago, I realized, that it's classified as a comedy at the Emmys and stuff, I can't get that thought out of my head. So every episode, there are episodes where there's like one written joke in the whole episode.

• 3:16Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 3:16Speaker 01

And I just watch it. People are crying, yelling at each other, people are having panic attacks.

• 3:22Matt Farah?

  No, there needs to be.

• 3:23Speaker 01

And I'm like, this is BS. The last episode, you know, Sarah, like last year had a really rough year with her dad and her brother. The episode covered both of those topics, and not in a funny way, Matt.

• 3:35Matt Farah?

  And no trigger warnings.

• 3:37Speaker 01

Yeah, so I'm just like watching her cry and I'm like, and I'm, and I'm also like, I'm pretty forgiving, and if it's a dark comedy, it's a dark comedy. Like, this has so few jokes in some episodes, it really bothers me.

• 3:48Matt Farah?

I mean, listen, that sounds like some recent, you know, reactionary stand-up sets I've heard.

• 3:54Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, this is the better.

• 3:57Matt Farah?

There should be a category at the Emmys for panic attack inducing stress series.

• 4:04Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 4:05Matt Farah?

Like The Bear, which is pretty much with that. That, whatever that was, the first season, the episode that was like the long cut, where it was just a fucking panic attack for 46 minutes in one take. Jesus Christ. That was too much.

• 4:18Speaker 01

With the family gathering that was just, right, yeah, that kind of.

• 4:21Matt Farah?

Fucking Jamie Lee Curtis hurling a turkey.

• 4:23Speaker 01

  And it's a, it's a great show.

• 4:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 4:26Speaker 01

Acting, writing, the way it's shot, everything's magic. And if you just put it as a drama, I'm on board. But when you, when I, just imagining.

• 4:34Matt Farah?

Do we know that it's their fault?

• 4:36Speaker 01

  Huh? We don't. I don't know.

• 4:37Matt Farah?

  Whose fault is it?

• 4:38Speaker 01

  Somebody's.

• 4:38Matt Farah?

The bear is like a comedy.

• 4:40Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 4:41Matt Farah?

  Or see, our classifieds.

• 4:42Speaker 01

I'm gonna get to the bottom of it. I'll tell you what.

• 4:43Matt Farah?

Cause if it's, it's one thing if it's like someone, um.

• 4:46Speaker 01

  That you self submit, right.

• 4:47Matt Farah?

If an EP did a production loophole and was like, hey, guys, guess what?

• 4:50Speaker 01

  We're gonna win this.

• 4:51Matt Farah?

We got just enough jokes to stay, you know, cause to qualify, it's probably like to qualify as a comedy for an Emmy, you need a.

• 4:57Speaker 01

  Right, many jokes per man.

• 4:58Matt Farah?

4.3 jokes per episode or whatever. They probably could sneak in. Other, alternatively, if it's, you know, something that is chosen, they're nominated in this category by the Emmy Commission. What are you gonna say? No? You know? You're gonna say no to a little golden statue?

• 5:16Speaker 01

But I feel like it wouldn't, it wouldn't win a best comedy against comedies.

• 5:21Matt Farah?

It's like, let's say you're a senator and they're like, look, you know, you're supposed to listen to what your constituents want to do. But here's a boat. What are you gonna say? No? It's a boat. You're not gonna say no to a boat.

• 5:35Speaker 01

I, I think this is the Johnny Knoxville movie. Remember he went in like, the whole like, you know, person competing in the Special Olympics thing? And then like, you're not good enough to be in the real Olympics or the Special Olympics, cause they're actually amazing athletes. I feel like this is like, oh, let's put him in the comedy part. Like, well, it's not as funny as 30 Rock. I know it's off the air, but like.

• 5:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 5:52Speaker 01

That's just, anyway, that's my rant about the bear, sorry.

• 5:54Matt Farah?

A comedy, it's like what the, it's like, well, it's like a porn. I, I know what a comedy is when it's presented to me.

• 6:01Speaker 01

  Right.

• 6:01Matt Farah?

  You know what I mean?

• 6:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:02Matt Farah?

Pretty sure I know what a porno is, just like.

• 6:05Speaker 01

I'll know it when I see it.

• 6:06Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 6:06Speaker 01

  Whatever they got, yeah.

• 6:07Matt Farah?

Yeah. As long as it's not like some fucking preacher saying that shit and like a regular person, you're fine. You know?

• 6:14Speaker 01

I mean, that was the senator who said that, I think during the, um, the case against, what's his face? Larry, uh.

• 6:20Matt Farah?

Oh, Larry Flynt. Yeah, Larry Flynt. I mean, listen, if that senator doesn't have. The Horde, the Horde to End Horde.

• 6:29Speaker 01

It's a research library. Matt Farah, Matt Farah, am I not supposed to study the material upon which I am fighting? I believe I'm supposed to study that material front, back and upside down.

• 6:39Matt Farah?

  And if-

• 6:40Speaker 01

  Give me that Kleenex.

• 6:41Matt Farah?

If I were to ejaculate during the course of my research, I mean, one could not be helped.

• 6:48Speaker 01

That's how we know it's pornography, Matt Farah. If I ejaculate during the studying of this bill, of this legal argument, then we know it's pornography. And if I don't, I'll try again.

• 6:59Matt Farah?

  We are heading there.

• 7:01Speaker 01

  We are.

• 7:02Matt Farah?

We are very much heading there.

• 7:04Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 7:06Matt Farah?

Alright, well, Cars, hi, how are you, Cars? It's a good, like, fucking little warm-up vibe. Who was on the island? I don't know.

• 7:16Speaker 01

  Don't forget.

• 7:16Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 7:17Speaker 01

  Everybody, don't forget.

• 7:18Matt Farah?

  Well-

• 7:18Speaker 01

  Keep talking about it.

• 7:19Matt Farah?

The end to, so I, there is a...

• 7:26Matt Farah?

Me and Spike Ferriston did a television show in 2014. It was the first time we ever really hung out. And there were four people on this television show, four hosts. Me, Spike, Sam Smith, and a NASCAR driver named Brian Vickers, who is a lovely guy and whose wife, he is now divorcing, the story broke yesterday, allegedly ran red girls for Jeffrey Epstein.

• 7:59Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 7:59Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and, and-

• 8:02Speaker 01

Is that why they're getting divorced? Or is this like a-

• 8:06Matt Farah?

If, if that isn't a reason-

• 8:07Speaker 01

No, no, I'm saying like, was it already happening and then this just got discovered?

• 8:12Matt Farah?

No, no, they, they, this was, it was no. There was, there was other stories about this, about the wife.

• 8:19Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 8:19Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, and when we met them, she was driving a Ferrari, brand new, V12, front-engine Ferrari. I think it was either, I think it was a 599 at the time. And told us that she was an interior designer in like Palm Beach. And it turns out that she did have, in fact, an interior design business registered in Palm Beach in a building Jeffrey Epstein owns.

• 8:46Matt Farah?

Yeah, it was some, uh, some interesting things.

• 8:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:51Matt Farah?

Yeah, that's how it was connected to cars.

• 8:53Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 8:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah, poor Brian.

• 8:54Speaker 01

There's a Ferrari in that story, wow.

• 8:56Matt Farah?

  Huh?

• 8:56Speaker 01

  That's.

• 8:56Matt Farah?

There's a Ferrari in that story and a NASCAR driver, former NASCAR driver.

• 9:00Speaker 01

  Hey, there you go.

• 9:01Matt Farah?

Brian Vickers was pretty fun. We, I enjoyed hanging out with Brian Vickers during that TV show. He was a good time.

• 9:06Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 9:07Matt Farah?

Yeah, he was a good time.

• 9:08Speaker 01

Lift the mic a little bit, just cause that's.

• 9:10Matt Farah?

  Is it drooping?

• 9:10Speaker 01

  That's that for Braden.

• 9:11Matt Farah?

Ah, oh wow, they really, they really did, um, crank this thing down. They didn't, they made no bones about that. There we go. I see. One day we're gonna need to replace those. They're gonna be a thousand dollars for those little knobs. Uh, better?

• 9:26Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm, yes.

• 9:27Matt Farah?

I sound good now? Okay. Uh, cars. Uh, well, we shouldn't go too far without talking about that little Mazda 3 that they just picked up.

• 9:35Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 9:36Matt Farah?

I got this thing, uh, last Mazda 3 stick shift press car. And so, there's no pictures of it on my Instagram. We're gonna have to get other pictures, sorry. Um, but, uh, it actually like, it's a, it's a fairly old design. They've been making one that looks like this for a while.

• 9:55Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 9:55Matt Farah?

Um, and it was the hatchback, which I think, uh, does look nice. And the interior, man, if you're someone who doesn't want like too much screen in your life, this is a great place to be.

• 10:09Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 10:10Matt Farah?

Really nice materials, um, everything you touch, there we go, that's it, the gray one right there.

• 10:16Speaker 01

  Do that.

• 10:16Matt Farah?

Yeah, that's it. Um, I don't love the exterior styling of the car, particularly that last bit above the rear wheel. I think looks a little strange.

• 10:27Speaker 01

  It's a, it's a really thick pillar.

• 10:29Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 10:30Speaker 01

It's a very, you know, cause the glass doesn't wrap around, the back glass doesn't wrap around to the side.

• 10:34Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 10:35Speaker 01

Like it does with some other cars. Let me get a.

• 10:36Matt Farah?

It doesn't like affect your rear visibility, like there aren't the big blind spots or anything. Um, but I just, I don't think it has, I don't think every angle is good. This front three-quarter, pretty good.

• 10:46Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 10:47Matt Farah?

  Rear three-quarter. Puh, eh, uh.

• 10:50Speaker 01

  Profile.

• 10:51Matt Farah?

  Psy profile? Not great.

• 10:53Speaker 01

Cause the front is, is like this nice trim, aerodynamic. I like the, I like the eyes of it. All that stuff looks great. And then, and even the A pillar from here looks really thin. And then you go to the back C pillar and it's like, wah.

• 11:03Matt Farah?

It's like they did the sedan first and then they went, shit, we need a hatchback. You know, like they did with the Ferrari Roma, being convertible. It's like that.

• 11:11Speaker 01

  It's a good question.

• 11:12Matt Farah?

Um, but, uh, and, but how, how long has it been since we've driven a brand new, front wheel drive, naturally aspirated, stick shift car? Like a pretty long time.

• 11:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:24Matt Farah?

And what I really appreciated about this was like the linearness of it and, uh, the fact that like you could, you could accidentally, if you weren't paying attention, just like sit at 6,000 RPM in this car all day. Cause it was so smooth.

• 11:40Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 11:40Matt Farah?

  Smooth.

• 11:41Speaker 01

It's easy to forget to shift.

• 11:43Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 11:43Speaker 01

  Drive around town.

• 11:44Matt Farah?

Yeah. Um, if you were the kind of person who really wanted to drive a manual transmission, but you also had like a bitch of a commute, this would be fabulous. It's not fast, but it's like fast enough. It's fast enough for everyday driving for sure. It's just not fast to be exciting.

• 12:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:03Matt Farah?

Um, but the inputs are nice. Steering wheel, lovely. Pedals are great. Seats were nice.

• 12:08Speaker 01

Seats are really comfortable. The dash is simple, but looks pretty elegant.

• 12:11Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 12:12Speaker 01

Um, I feel like it will be not timeless, but close. Like it's just so simple and neat that you go, I mean, we, I just looked it up. We tested one in 2021.

• 12:21Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 12:22Speaker 01

  So it's four years later.

• 12:23Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 12:23Speaker 01

  Still looks pretty good inside.

• 12:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 12:25Speaker 01

  Hasn't done anything offensive.

• 12:26Matt Farah?

It just doesn't have the touchscreen and you have to do the puck thing.

• 12:29Speaker 01

  Right.

• 12:29Matt Farah?

Which I, I've, it is annoying to use CarPlay with a puck. But I was surprised at how quickly I was able to do things that I expected to take a long time. Like, just navigating through CarPlay, I expected to be much more annoying with the puck than it actually was.

• 12:48Speaker 01

They've done a great job of making like, not shortcuts, but laying out where the buttons land as you rotate and you see, you know, goes from whatever, like zoom in to zoom out to, you know, go back and all that stuff and it, it, it worked pretty quickly.

• 13:01Matt Farah?

It does work well and driving at night is really nice because the screen isn't super bright and the gauges in front of you are really not too bright, so your eyes stay, this is a thing that as I, as, as, A, I'm, as I get older, combined with the fact that there's, fucking cars are full of screens now, I really start to notice this, like, it's really hard to find cars where your eyes remain adjusted to outside.

• 13:25Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 13:26Matt Farah?

And like, when you do find one, like, embrace that shit, because it's nice. Like this, yeah, look how clean this is, this, this interior. That steering wheel is as perfect as steering wheels get. That's C.A.R.G.U.R.U.S. dot com. cargurus.com And now, back to the show. Like, holding it, that's about as close to a Porsche steering wheel as you're going to find for $30,000. It's almost a perfect mimic of a Porsche.

• 18:00Speaker 01

I just got out of the M5 Touring that you gave me. And there's just so many like weird buttons and shapes. And granted, I just got into it, I'll get used to it. However, this, the steering wheel here is simple, it looks nice. The feedback on the buttons is like a nice spring rate. It feels like a more expensive car, and that's what Mazda always gets right. They make their cars feel a little bit more expensive than they are.

• 18:23Matt Farah?

Yeah, so if you were like, if you were doing a lot of highway, and like, I got like, you get like mid-high 30s all day, regular gas, you know, and there's no turbo, that's not going to be a stressed-out engine unless you absolutely kick the shit out of it constantly. There isn't an LSD in this one, so it's not, you know, it's not super sporty. But it is like, it is reasonably engaging to drive. I do wish that like, that there was, the combination of an incredibly smooth engine, there's like no clutch feel at all.

• 19:03Matt Farah?

So you find yourself like, from a stop, not being able to like elegantly pull away all the time and riding the clutch a little extra. Or like, you know, not realizing like if you come to a stop and you're just like in neutral like if your foot is like resting, like just touching the gas a little bit like it can happen in any car like

• 19:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 19:24Matt Farah?

There's no resistance. So it'll just be like and you won't even know until it's at like four because it's so refined.

• 19:30Speaker 01

  It's such a smooth engine.

• 19:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 19:32Speaker 01

It also rides better than the CX 50 Meridian Edition we had.

• 19:35Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 19:36Speaker 01

I swear to God, this has slightly better softer spring rates or something. It's just a little bit more comfortable around town.

• 19:42Matt Farah?

I mean, it's smaller, it's lighter, it's got lighter wheels. It doesn't need heavier springs. It's the opposite of the M5.

• 19:48Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 19:49Matt Farah?

Which has all the springs. The thing has like truck springs in it.

• 19:52Speaker 01

Yeah, it's weird. It's real weird.

• 19:54Matt Farah?

All the spring and none of the damper. It's insane.

• 19:57Speaker 01

I get what you're saying. I drove it for five minutes and, and you know, I know you put the thought in my head, but it felt like ADAS was on.

• 20:03Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:04Speaker 01

It's not. And it's just, but it doesn't tramline as much as, you know, GT 500 when it would do that, you knew that's what was happening.

• 20:12Matt Farah?

  305 fronts. This has 255.

• 20:15Speaker 01

Right. So I think the tramline is so subtle.

• 20:17Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:18Speaker 01

That you don't notice it at first and then you're the frog getting boiled. You're like, is that what's happening? It's not, it's not electronics steering itself. It's just the road, but only a little bit. It's like enough to make you unsettled.

• 20:27Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:27Speaker 01

But not enough to like move the car where you focus up.

• 20:29Matt Farah?

Well, I want, I don't want to, I don't want to detour into M5 land because it's too easy to do that. And I, and you've driven it for seven minutes and I want you to drive it for reals. Because you will have many thoughts and I have many, many thoughts about the M5. But, uh, but, uh, the, the, this Mazda, if you, if you're like, I got it because there are so few manual transmission cars left. We should be, we should be trusting all of them.

• 20:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:58Matt Farah?

Whatever stick shift. I asked all the fleet guys, like what stick shift cars do you have? Like, there's almost none. But look at that, look at that beautifully elegant and simple air conditioning control bit right in the middle.

• 21:13Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 21:14Matt Farah?

The cup holders in front of the shifter. So they're never in the way of your elbow when you're, when you're rowing. gears like the fucking the hundred and fifty thousand dollar Porsche we spent all morning. When I put my coffee in the cup holder, you had to do some like back to the future.

• 21:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:33Matt Farah?

  DeLorean driving to do that.

• 21:36Speaker 01

  Rotator cuff workout. Yeah.

• 21:37Matt Farah?

That's the move, right? Back the fucking Marty McFly.

• 21:40Speaker 01

I've done that. I had to read over the top, you know, like I was stealing fish.

• 21:44Matt Farah?

Yeah, clearly that car was like not designed for stick.

• 21:48Speaker 01

Why don't they put the good question? Why don't they put the cup holders in front of the shifter in the Porsche? Put the HVAC controls in the back where you don't really touch them that much.

• 21:55Matt Farah?

  That's I don't.

• 21:56Speaker 01

  Wouldn't it make a loss?

• 21:57Matt Farah?

  I don't know. I there is definitely a reason.

• 22:00Speaker 01

There's definitely. Oh, yeah. I mean.

• 22:01Matt Farah?

That cup holder is not a problem at all in the PDK car.

• 22:05Speaker 01

  Uh, right.

• 22:05Matt Farah?

PDK car that that doesn't that car cup is all right. And there there's a far dash one on the right.

• 22:11Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 22:12Matt Farah?

So you can like really use that one if it matters, but yeah.

• 22:14Speaker 01

I like the stealthy one in the Porsche is nice.

• 22:16Matt Farah?

Somebody in some nerd in the forums has like made a thing that you can get, I'm sure.

• 22:22Speaker 01

That puts the cup holder in the front.

• 22:24Matt Farah?

That like, yeah, that's like it like it instead of it being here. It's like a 3D printed part that fits in that fitting, but like moves the cup holder over here for if you don't have a passenger.

• 22:34Speaker 01

  That's the accurate NSX move.

• 22:36Matt Farah?

  Right?

• 22:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:37Matt Farah?

That's where the footwell cup holder. Also, uh, Mia doesn't.

• 22:40Speaker 01

  Mia has it.

• 22:41Matt Farah?

  Mia has the elbow.

• 22:42Speaker 01

  That one.

• 22:43Matt Farah?

  It's back here.

• 22:44Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. NSX is on the side.

• 22:45Matt Farah?

NSX was the, yeah, that was crazy.

• 22:48Speaker 01

This also I like going back to Mazda three gauges.

• 22:51Matt Farah?

  Mm hmm.

• 22:52Speaker 01

Simple, nice. I mean, analog, sure, like a little old school. Maybe it could do with like one screen somewhere if you wanted to, if you had to get fancy, but like this look, this works totally fine.

• 23:02Matt Farah?

Yeah, for dude, for this thing gets so many things right if you like driving a lot. And if you're doing a lot of miles, like, oh, man, I don't, I don't really want like a Prius or something like, oh, I need something that's like keeps me alive, you know, inside.

• 23:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:18Matt Farah?

Like this will do it. And also, if you get stuck in traffic, the controls are light enough that you won't like go insane.

• 23:24Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 23:25Matt Farah?

Yeah. So I liked it. I actually, I actually did like it. I maybe there's some way in the aftermarket, if there's like some. clutch helper spring or something you just take out and all of a sudden there's clutch feel that would be maybe nice but but aside from that I mean and it's it's not fast but like whatever it's it was fi- it's fine. Yeah. Um, for commuting for it's it was pretty fun. Yeah. And if you like stick shift and you like touching good good inputs, that's what it's for. Uh, so thank you to Mazda for letting us have a go uh for that one. Um. Should I talk about Intersect, the watch thing? Yeah. That I was at this weekend. So Intersect is an awesome, uh, awesome show. It's actually put on.

• 24:09Matt Farah?

Uh, but I I I also did a no Instagram, but they have their own Instagram um for Intersect. Cause I did, I figured I was doing this bit, but um. So it's a watch show for enthusiasts put on by uh the Notice guys who I did the collab with for the Canyon. And uh it's thirty brands come together at this uh brewery space in Long Beach and uh and and show their wares and you can buy watches there and you can put in, put orders in, but that's not really what it's for. It's really to like. Cause a lot of these uh what you call micro brands or or niche brands, um, you know, they sell online. They advertise on Instagram. They promote online.

• 24:53Matt Farah?

But a lot of these companies like they don't have stores. You so you can't really try something on without buying it. It's just like the nature of the business. So you listen to influencers and whatever, but but you never really know. And so a lot of times you'll see something that looks cool on Instagram and and then you you get it and you go, ah, it doesn't really look great on my wrist or whatever. And that can happen at the very high end Swiss level as well, except usually you would go into the boutique and try it on before you before you took it home. So at least there's that. Most of this stuff is done mail order. Um, so anyway, it's a great opportunity, you know, like a like a traditional auto show, like the LA Auto Show to actually, you know, test drive some of this uh stuff.

• 25:37Matt Farah?

So I went and checked it out with Hannah. Uh, it was really fun. We were promoting the uh the mother of Pearl Canyon. Um, people were really into the green canyon. I think we sold almost every single one we had. Um, I actually saw some of Notice's other. Uh, newer designs in person, uh, for the first time. They have one called the Trail Trecker, which I don't love the name Trail Trecker, but it's basically their version of a Rolex Explorer II. But it's this like gray, like DLC coating on the whole watch and bracelet. It's basically like a hiking, mountaineering kind of vibe, and I think you would really like it. Um, but, uh, I made a list, uh,

• 26:20Matt Farah?

outside of Notice, who I'm, I'm clearly biased towards, of my five favorite. Yeah, it's nice, right?

• 26:27Speaker 01

  It's very cool.

• 26:28Matt Farah?

Yeah. My five favorite watches, uh, from Intersect, because a lot of times, like, there's so many micro brands that when people ask me, like, what's a cool watch? And like, I don't have something at this price point. So like, every, every watch that's on this list that I'm, I'm talking about is under $2,000. Which is a price point that like, we're try- everyone's try- we're trying to hit a lot more. Like, I know that's a lot of money for people, but like, it's a lot less than 10, and like, what we're trying to do is get like, quality watchmaking to, to people at that price point.

• 27:05Speaker 01

Well, I think, to clarify, you're saying it's less than 10 because the big brands that people know about.

• 27:10Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 27:10Speaker 01

Right? Those kind of start, Omega, Rolex, whatever, that's kind of where they start.

• 27:13Matt Farah?

That's like 5,000 and up, and that's for many people is like, not even close to a reality. And for these brands, the stuff they sell starts at like 600, but nothing on the list that I have here is over 2,000. Uh, most of them are around 1,000, which is a, you know, you want to get, if you're gonna, if you want something like quality, that's a, that, that's kind of, you, you do have to spend a little bit of money, like, componentry ain't fucking free. So, um, these are sort of my top five, not in, not in a ranked order.

• 27:47Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 27:47Matt Farah?

This isn't, uh, this isn't the winners. I just wanted to, I wanted to familiarize people with some watches that I think are cool, that wouldn't have come up in, uh, conversation of what, what should I be buying questions? Cause we get asked this a lot.

• 28:02Speaker 01

  We do.

• 28:03Matt Farah?

This one I keep going back to, and I've almost bought it twice. This is called the Jack Mason Strato Timer.

• 32:14Matt Farah?

They were selling it at Intersect Show Special for $10.50, but the regular price is $11.50. Extremely handsome watch, GMT. It's basically halfway between a Seiko Turtle, which I'm wearing right now, and a Rolex GMT. Yeah. And it comes in a whole bunch of different dial colors, bezel colors. You get on a Jubilee racelet, you get an Oyster bracelet. They're all about the same price. They're not too thick. They have a sort of a cool vintage vibe.

• 32:49Matt Farah?

They have different elements pulled from, you know, different visual elements pulled from different styles. You can sort of pick out the bits of inspiration from other places. Nevertheless, incredibly handsome watches. I sent Zach the link of the one with the white dial. And the reason I like the one with the white dial is because Rolex doesn't make one in this particular combo. They have other combos that sort of mimic Rolex colors. But if you're gonna do something that even remotely knocks on the door of being a Rolex homage, which I don't think this is, but certain elements do get close. Make it, get it in a different fucking color. Right, make it different enough. Don't make it look like you're trying to knock off a Rolex.

• 33:33Matt Farah?

Because it's just a bad look. Because there's so many cool watches at every price point. You don't need to fake it, you know? So it's, it's a, it's got a good movement. Miyota GMT, automatic. It's, it's finished-ish. It's got some finishing on it with a display back. So, anyway, I've almost bought these twice. And every time I, you know what's funny is, the reason I keep coming back to it is because it sits right in the, at the Venn diagram of visual elements I like. Yeah. The problem is I already own all the watches that have the visual elements I like. It's like a Turtle Pepsi with a white. Yeah, yeah. It's a fabulous look. And they have them in all these cool colors.

• 34:17Matt Farah?

I've just been like, man, it's like right in the middle of shit I've already got. I just, I don't need to plug that hole. You own the circles. And then this is the Venn diagram where they overlap. Yeah. So like, someone could get in and get a taste of all those circles right here, if that's what they wanted to do. Like, if you wanted to get a bunch of elements that I love in a watch, put together smartly in one place. This is it. It's a great watch. And, and I've met the people, a quick, quick set, a micro-adjusted clasp. Love it. Yeah. Yeah. And so, that's a cool one. I really like that one. This one. is called Solabs and this is the watch I bought.

• 34:58Speaker 01

  Oh, you bought a watch?

• 34:59Matt Farah?

I bought, this is the, I only, I limited myself to one and only if I absolutely fell in love with it and had to have it. Uh, this is called Solabs. Uh, it's listed here for thirteen hundred. I, I got it for under a thousand for show special. But, uh, this actually, is this, is this dial the pink one?

• 35:18Speaker 01

Yeah, this is like a pink and purple.

• 35:19Matt Farah?

Yeah, wait, they have, it comes in other colors. The one I got, the one I'm getting has the, the blue. But this chrome, this chrome, I, I must have sent you the wrong, uh, color, but, uh, this chrome bracelet, it really reminds me of the IcaPod. Uh, stuff from the nineties, the Mark Newsen stuff.

• 35:37Speaker 01

  Is this?

• 35:37Matt Farah?

No, that's the day one go up. This one's called the day two, which is this guy. So. What's so cool about this watch, I mean, the dial is super funky. You, you gotta love it. The bracelet is super funky, shiny, chrome. Um, and then it actually has a day, date, excuse me. It has a date movement in it, but as you can see on the dial, there is no date. Uh, the big triangle is the hour hands, the hollow triangle is the minute hands. And the, the, the one behind it is the seconds actually. But, uh, but, uh, no, there's another hand behind, right, but yeah, that's the seconds. But you see the gradient disc that you can see through the dial?

• 36:21Matt Farah?

So that's actually the date wheel, but instead of showing a date, it's a full gradient. So every day, you, the gradient color looks a little different.

• 36:30Speaker 01

  That's cool.

• 36:31Matt Farah?

Every day it looks a little different.

• 36:32Speaker 01

  That's a very cool idea.

• 36:33Matt Farah?

And I saw, as soon as I picked this up, I went absolute, like, just like the Myers Manks. I was like, absolutely, this is the one. Super funky.

• 36:41Speaker 01

Yeah, that's pretty cool. I like these kinda art piece things. Like, I like the IcaPod or whatever.

• 36:46Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 36:46Speaker 01

Yeah, I think they're very cool.

• 36:47Matt Farah?

Cause a lot of the, these micro brands, they exist sort of in the middle. They have elements that are inspired by other brands, you know, and, and. And oh, by the way, it comes with this desk clock.

• 36:59Speaker 01

  Really?

• 36:59Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 36:59Speaker 01

  Oh, that's cool.

• 37:00Matt Farah?

  That desk clock is sick.

• 37:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:02Matt Farah?

I might be, I might time the show with that. So how fun is that piece? Look at that, I mean, that's just-

• 37:09Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's really rad.

• 37:10Matt Farah?

Super funky, right? So this is, this is a little more avant garde. But I think it, it reminds me, there's a, a, a watch by a guy named, called Alan Silberstein, that's almost very, um, it's, it's cartoony, but it's Bauhaus. And this is like that. It's very fun.

• 37:31Matt Farah?

So I bought one of those. That's gonna be, that's gonna be fun. I think that's gonna be my quail watch.

• 37:36Speaker 01

  That's a good quail watch.

• 37:37Matt Farah?

It's a good for the, with Manx, it's gonna be party time.

• 37:40Speaker 01

Cause if you go fancy, there's so many people there that have way more money and are being far fancier.

• 37:44Matt Farah?

I can't fucking outreach those people, forget it.

• 37:46Speaker 01

  No.

• 37:46Matt Farah?

No, nothing I got even, that even would register on their radar. It's either Aquanaut, um, or excuse me, Arcanaut, sorry buddy, I apologize, James, for saying Aquanaut rather than Arcanaut. You know, with the four day dial? It's either that, it's silly shit. It's gotta be silly. So this one, I've never heard of this brand before, they're called Strom, S.T.R.A.U.M. And I love a fabulous dial, and these things fucking rip. They glow, they have, they have gradients, they have these sort of carved brass dials that almost look like waves or, or drippings of paint. Um, and they come in all these different dial colors.

• 38:29Matt Farah?

I think I only pulled up, these are, this was seventeen hundred, I think they were fifteen hundred at the show. Um, but if you go up the, at the top menu there, Zach, all those Jan Mayen down a little bit, all of those are completely different and fun colors. Like, look at that, look at that burst one from the center. So these guys are, these guys are doing dial work that I would say, not quite Grand Seiko level, the precision of Grand Seiko isn't quite there. But certainly the expressiveness and the use of color blasting, and the fact that it's-

• 39:01Speaker 01

This is incredible, this looks like the three dimensional, like the dial looks like-

• 39:03Matt Farah?

  Yeah, like snow, right?

• 39:05Speaker 01

Right, like terrace of, or not terrace, like the terrain of the moon or something.

• 39:08Matt Farah?

Yeah, and so there's a whole, look at the, look at some of the, the Arctic ones, or some of the other ones are uh, really, really beautiful, and integrated, uh, integrated bracelets. Uh, and well-integrated straps, some are titanium, some are steel. Um, there was some others like special edition, the Basalt ones are really cool. With these Basalt dials, isn't that cool? Like, it looks like Mars. So I really liked these. So these, you know, these at the show were fifteen hundred, which I thought. It was, I thought, man, if I. But I do have the Grand Seiko's also. Oh, yeah. So there's these different colors of these tundras. Apparently, the folks behind this brand.

• 39:51Matt Farah?

Uh, go on a lot of camping, long camping expeditions, camping trips. And they get color inspirations from, from that.

• 39:59Speaker 01

  I understand that.

• 39:59Matt Farah?

Which is a very Grand Seiko thing to do. But I thought these were very handsome. Uh, they use a quality movement and, and if you like a, a, a big blast on a dial, this is what's up.

• 40:11Speaker 01

I love the gradient. I mean, that's what I like to notice. I just like having the colors shift a little, even if you don't.

• 40:16Matt Farah?

Yeah. So that's a, that's a really cool one. Um, this one, uh, not a new, new brand. Uh, I've seen these on the internet a bunch, but this, uh, the first time I got to try them on. Studio Underdog. Uh, really cool brand doing very cool stuff with, uh, colors.

• 40:34Speaker 01

  Oh, I follow these guys.

• 40:35Matt Farah?

Their shit is themed like avocado and watermelon and pizza and stuff like that. Uh, out of England. Um, using a, a variety of components from different countries. I think their movements are from Asia, but this new one, the salmon. So these are, these are fucking sick looking in person. I love them. But they only come in two sizes, like thirty-four and thirty-seven millimeter. That's forty.

• 41:03Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 41:03Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 41:03Speaker 01

It's more than that. Oh, wow.

• 41:05Matt Farah?

  Excuse me, that's forty-one.

• 41:06Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 41:07Matt Farah?

So they're small. Um, and they're thin, you know, so if you. It's the kind, it's the size that you or I would wear with a suit. But you wouldn't wear this with a suit. I mean, unless it was like a really fun suit, I guess, but like. It's not, this isn't a formal watch. I'd wear it out at fun times. I, thank God, if they make a forty or a forty-one of this. Take my money.

• 41:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:30Matt Farah?

Um, I loved looking at these. They're so cool. Um, this one is a mono pusher chronograph, which means. Rather than having a stop, start and a reset button, it's all on one. Stop, start, reset is on one button. But a bunch of really fun colors and special collabs and shit like that.

• 41:50Matt Farah?

  Really cool.

• 41:50Speaker 01

Oh, there we go. I think I started following, you talking about them once, and I thought it was such a cool way to get, geez, real rad bursts of color, but then finding out how small they were, I was like, oh, that doesn't, even, even my wrist like that would just look a little small.

• 42:02Matt Farah?

It would look a little small on you. You could, you could probably pull it off.

• 42:07Speaker 01

Under a suit would be okay.

• 42:08Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 42:10Matt Farah?

But if you have a smaller wrist, definitely check these out. These, these things, you can wear one of these in a room full of heavy hitters, like people rocking six-figure shit in a room. You walk up in one of these, one of these really good, good colors, and people will be asking you to take that shit off and pass it around the room. Guaranteed, 100%.

• 42:34Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 42:35Matt Farah?

For, uh, these are about, I think these are about 2,500. They're a little over the threshold.

• 42:43Matt Farah?

But again, that, this shit will get you a seat at the table with big boys. And the other ones that I brought up so far will not necessarily do that.

• 42:54Matt Farah?

This one, these I liked. I never really experienced the brand Stella before, and they have a bunch of beautiful dials, uh, scroll down, because we're just looking at the back of one, uh, what we call linen dials. The dials are, they're different colors of what looks like, um, linen fabric, and in some cases actually is. I mean, look at that. Isn't that nice? I mean, you love a good texture on a dial. Uh, you don't see it as much in the darker blue or the black, but the light gray linen, the white linen, this blue, this light blue linen is exceptional. And these are, uh, also very affordable. They are not super expensive. I mean, they're a thousand dollars.

• 43:38Matt Farah?

Uh, 1,100 and 1,085, they were, they were like 9.50 at the show. Uh, but I just think that's a, that's a great looking dial with, it's got applied indices, meaning the, like, like the notice, the, the numbers and the, uh, the, the hour markers are placed, they're extra bits that go on top of the dial, they're not painted on the dial. It's a, it's a higher-end, uh, thing to do. But I just, you know, i- if you're gonna wear a cool watch, you, you, I think a dial that draws you in and keeps your attention, that's why I like these textures and colors and, and so I think this is just very, very handsome, uh, and would be a good versatile, goes with any outfit kind of vibe.

• 44:16Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's rad.

• 44:17Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 44:18Speaker 01

  I'm into it.

• 44:19Matt Farah?

Yeah. I think that was at the last one. I think that was all five, right? Was there another one?

• 44:23Speaker 01

  That was all of it.

• 44:24Matt Farah?

Yeah, that was all of it. Cool. So, um, you know, it's, uh, I think they're doing, they're doing other intersect shows. LA isn't the only one. Uh, but LA is every, uh, July. I went last year and it was like double the size this year. So, um, super sick, um, great place to really try, try stuff on and, and you know, a lot of the people behind the booth are the founders of the brand. It's not like they just sent some fucking person. You're talking to the head of the, of the brand sometimes. So, and, uh, and we sold a bunch of watches too. So that's pretty cool. Uh, got the video from, uh, Mike down at Mank's. Car's running.

• 45:02Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 45:03Matt Farah?

Um, he, uh, he got me some aviation inspired seat belts, uh, which sounds very fun. Uh, the wheels came back from powder coat. They look good. It, it sounds, it sounds almost like they should maybe be driving it soon if not like to tomorrow.

• 45:22Speaker 01

  Sure is imminent, right?

• 45:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 45:24Speaker 01

I mean, it's got seat belts and it's running and we saw it. It had suspension on it.

• 45:27Matt Farah?

  Oh, yeah.

• 45:28Speaker 01

  So, or.

• 45:28Matt Farah?

No, when I last saw it, I went down with LeBron after you and like the, the, it, everything was in, other than like steering wheel seats and like the rest of it was like there. Uh, and they were just waiting for some software guy to, which obviously they have, um, sorted. So, how exciting.

• 45:47Speaker 01

  Very cool.

• 45:47Matt Farah?

  Oh, yes.

• 45:48Speaker 01

Speaking of cars that are almost done, have you seen the new Faraday Future?

• 45:55Matt Farah?

So I got invited to go to this thing.

• 45:57Speaker 01

  So did I.

• 45:58Matt Farah?

Multiple times and did not go. And actually I now am sad I didn't go.

• 46:03Speaker 01

I regret not going because when I saw it on Instagram, I was like, I would have laughed so hard out loud.

• 46:07Matt Farah?

  I know, I know.

• 46:07Speaker 01

But I also am glad I didn't go down because it was a pain in the ass downtown on, in the evening. And it's a terrible car.

• 46:14Matt Farah?

  You know, I.

• 46:14Speaker 01

  To jump ahead.

• 46:15Matt Farah?

I regret not going to the Cybertruck launch. I regret, you know, these catastrophic disasters that we got invited to and other people go and tell us what is, and I go. Oh, man, I would have loved to see a fucking crash in.

• 46:29Speaker 01

It's like going to a demolition derby, like, I should have gone, I should have gone. Um, because.

• 46:35Matt Farah?

The car, pull up a picture of the car, though, because it's hilarious. Was there something you wanted to, you were saying there was something you wanted to show me? Was it, oh, these are photos from the launch?

• 46:44Speaker 01

There's, I mean, there's a couple of things. I discovered new things while looking for the thing I wanted to show you.

• 46:48Matt Farah?

Faraday Future, Faraday FX Super 1, which is the most Chinese name.

• 46:54Speaker 01

The big story with this, because for people listening to the audio, don't worry, you won't be left out. Think of a minivan, great, you got it. It's a tall minivan. It has a television screen where the grill should be. That's, that's one of the stories. I've discovered more stories in this research.

• 47:11Matt Farah?

This is like, exhibit had to walk, so you could.

• 47:15Speaker 01

  Yes, so that Faraday could.

• 47:17Matt Farah?

Mad Mike is over here going, you gotta be motherfucking shit.

• 47:21Speaker 01

I mean, the, the, the marketing copy they have for this makes it sound like this is snake oil. Like, it's, they, they pitch it as like.

• 47:29Matt Farah?

Because it's an AI screen, right? There's some, something, there's AI in the screen.

• 47:34Speaker 01

That will be your friend, companion, all this stuff. If I can find, I couldn't find the video I wanted to show you.

• 47:40Matt Farah?

  So it's Van as Tamagotchi?

• 47:41Speaker 01

Yes, it is exactly that. And then there's AI in the pictures, I noticed, because what is wrong with this picture, Matt? I mean, there's a couple of things.

• 47:52Matt Farah?

  Wait a minute.

• 47:53Speaker 01

  But let's, let's look for.

• 47:56Matt Farah?

Okay, well, like, all right, like, one person's partying, one person's working. Um, does the, does the woman in the white dress have a left arm?

• 48:08Speaker 01

Um, I don't believe she does.

• 48:10Matt Farah?

Is that what, is that what I'm looking for?

• 48:11Speaker 01

No, I actually was looking at something else, which is even funnier. The woman on the right, look at the length of her wrist and hand. It's the same length as her forearm.

• 48:19Matt Farah?

So, like, I could potentially, just, just potentially, say that maybe they shot this on, like, a nine-millimeter fisheye, like they were shooting a cover for a Ramones album.

• 48:33Speaker 01

Like a skateboard video. I would agree with you, except that the woman on the left, her hair and face are, like, normal size.

• 48:38Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 48:39Speaker 01

And the woman on the right is also out of focus, her face is out of focus, and it's, like, stretched.

• 48:44Matt Farah?

She does, her head is about.

• 48:47Speaker 01

She has ostrich legs for hands.

• 48:49Matt Farah?

  Twelve inches long.

• 48:50Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. So that was something that popped out on me. And then when you go down and you see that-

• 48:55Matt Farah?

Oh wait, is that person's legs a little too long? Look how long that person's... I mean, that seems like just super wide angle lens, but their legs are... That person might have had leg lengthening surgery. I mean, seriously.

• 49:11Speaker 01

This gentleman, um, let's see, where... So here's another picture of the screen.

• 49:15Matt Farah?

  What?

• 49:16Speaker 01

Now, for people listening, it's a minivan on a red carpet, and then it says "Best Actress" on the front, on the front screen of the van.

• 49:23Matt Farah?

They're delivering, like, they're gonna deliver the Oscar winner in-

• 49:29Speaker 01

In this. A grand entrance for your life. And then, like, the copy is just, this is the champion's car, you know? "Arrive recharged and ready for your next..."

• 49:37Matt Farah?

I mean, look, I'll go back to the, go back to the possibly AI guy lounging in the car.

• 49:42Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 49:42Matt Farah?

Like, let's try to be nice. Those look like pretty dope captain's chairs.

• 49:48Speaker 01

They do. They're massage, heated, cooled seats.

• 49:50Matt Farah?

  Quilted.

• 49:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:53Matt Farah?

But ultimately, what you've done there is made a minivan.

• 49:56Speaker 01

  Right.

• 49:57Matt Farah?

That already exists, from what I gather, in China, as something else.

• 50:02Speaker 01

Oh, this van? I don't know if they're building this van, or if they're just rebranding this van.

• 50:07Matt Farah?

Well, no, I read several articles about this. I don't remember the name of it, because I can't remember the Chinese names of stuff sometimes, and I apologize for my racism there, but it's a Chinese van that already exists as a Chinese van. It's just that now, it has, like, captain's chairs and the screen.

• 50:29Speaker 01

So, so is Faraday like... What is it? It's like the Mitsubishi Starion or something? Like, are they saying, if they're bringing this to America, saying, "This is our van, and it's actually someone else's van." This is the Kirkland van that they put a screen on the front.

• 50:44Matt Farah?

  Chinese cars into America.

• 50:46Speaker 01

Assuming this van's allowed to be sold in America, because if it's a Chinese van anyway, it might not be it.

• 50:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah, I don't know.

• 50:52Speaker 01

It's like if they rebranded a BYD as Faraday, and the custom agent was like, "We still aren't letting you in."

• 50:59Speaker 01

The split, like the screen on the front. What, what are we doing? Why are we doing it?

• 51:05Matt Farah?

Dude, my kingdom to have been in the fucking room when they were like, turn on, turn on the front screen. Like, okay, AI, like, talk, like, get the fuck out.

• 51:19Speaker 01

  I, I can't.

• 51:20Matt Farah?

Show me some influencers though. Weren't some influencers there? Wait, that's fireplace. That is, okay. So here we have.

• 51:28Speaker 01

  This is great.

• 51:30Matt Farah?

Here we have a, a couple with a young child. Uh, sitting in a field. Uh, with a cooler and some fruit on it, a, a bottle of wine, no wine glasses.

• 51:43Speaker 01

It should be said that the mother and daughter are also holding microphones.

• 51:46Matt Farah?

Mother and daughter holding microphones. Um, and the, uh, what do we call a front screen? A, a screen.

• 51:54Speaker 01

  Green, a green?

• 51:55Matt Farah?

We're gonna figure that out. We're gonna workshop that a little bit.

• 51:57Speaker 01

  Grill screen.

• 51:58Matt Farah?

Well, the front screen is in, is in fireplace mode. Like occasionally you'll have the Yule log going.

• 52:04Speaker 01

Exactly that. Yeah, they're doing that and singing and I guess there might be a kid on the mom's lap. I see a leg.

• 52:12Matt Farah?

Uh, might just be an extra AI leg.

• 52:14Speaker 01

It could just be an, but.

• 52:16Matt Farah?

But the question is, what is, when you're outdoors, like not when you're indoors in your living room, but when you're outdoors, the purpose of a fire is usually the heat it provides. Not just the looking at the, like, is the.

• 52:34Speaker 01

  What's funny?

• 52:34Matt Farah?

Is this a desirable existence for anybody to sit in front of your van with a Yule log on? Possibly doing karaoke?

• 52:44Speaker 01

Well, is this an EV or is this a gas car?

• 52:47Matt Farah?

I believe this is an EV.

• 52:49Speaker 01

Okay, cause if it was a gas car, what you just said would actually be hilarious because the front of the car might actually be quite warm. And then you could do a good impression of a fireplace.

• 52:57Matt Farah?

  If it had heater mode.

• 52:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:00Matt Farah?

Well, look, I don't want to discount that this car has heater mode. If, if, like, there could be some smart people there and I'm, I don't, I might. Be prejudging a book by its horrible Instagram post.

• 53:12Speaker 01

I will judge a car that has a TV screen on the front of it. I'll do it for you. I'll take this bullet.

• 53:16Matt Farah?

Would you feel better or worse if when you put the Yule log on, it blew a really nice layer of warm heat at you?

• 53:24Speaker 01

  Better.

• 53:25Matt Farah?

  I think I'd feel better.

• 53:26Speaker 01

It would then be somewhat functional.

• 53:28Matt Farah?

  Yeah, I'd feel better.

• 53:28Speaker 01

And this is like, is this the tail? But now what's funny is like here, if you would put them gathered around in a football game on the screen, way more, you'd get much more attention.

• 53:37Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 53:37Speaker 01

That's what we want to do.

• 53:38Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 53:38Speaker 01

Park a car and then tailgate.

• 53:39Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 53:40Speaker 01

The front of it. But not near the back where the snacks are.

• 53:43Matt Farah?

Why would you want a tailgate?

• 53:44Speaker 01

Why? Why is such a great question?

• 53:46Matt Farah?

Well, no, I'll tell you what, if there's a frunk behind the screen, like if that van pop, if the hood pops up in that van and that could be your cooler and you, you know what I mean? That we're talking. Yeah. I don't know if it does. Anyway.

• 54:03Speaker 01

  Anyway.

• 54:03Matt Farah?

God, screens on the front of cars stink though.

• 54:07Speaker 01

It just, like, any accident, any accident, pretty much. It's gonna have a problem with it and they gotta replace it.

• 54:15Matt Farah?

Imagine you're like, you're like five mile an hour, like parking lot fender bender and they're like, that'll be $7,000.

• 54:22Speaker 01

Three days ago, four days ago, I was on the 405. It was, traffic was moving about 10 miles an hour. And I just hear a clunk next to me and a guy driving a Dish, a Discovery Dish, you know, satellite installation van, rear-ended a couple driving a Torig. And it was just like, he was probably, I didn't see him looking at his phone, but like, that's probably what was happening because

• 54:42Matt Farah?

  That's what happens.

• 54:43Speaker 01

Everyone was moving, but not quite fast enough to pay full attention. And if that guy had had a screen on the front saying, sign up for Dish now, 5% off, he would have broken that screen and hit this car.

• 54:53Matt Farah?

Covered, covered someone in radioactive goo.

• 54:56Speaker 01

This is just so funny. And look, people can reinvent themselves. I believe in the system. People can go to jail, get a doctorate, come out, be a lawyer. But this company has been trying to make a car or saying they're gonna make a car for how long now?

• 55:11Matt Farah?

Well, apparently they really did produce that first car. They just only sold like 10.

• 55:17Speaker 01

Did they try to sell more than 10?

• 55:18Matt Farah?

I don't, I don't know, but that's what the, that's what, that's what, that's what actually happened in terms of just facts. They sold that many.

• 55:27Speaker 01

I feel like it's hard to sell that few cars.

• 55:29Matt Farah?

It is, it is. It really is.

• 55:31Speaker 01

So, that, I guess, I guess that confused me. Maybe they're just gonna like, you know, let's try something else. Let's try minivans. Uh, let's give that a shot.

• 55:39Matt Farah?

  I just...

• 55:41Speaker 01

The ideas are wild to me. What are we doing anyway?

• 55:44Matt Farah?

Look at that one with the golf bags on the top left there. Are those golf bags standing?

• 55:47Speaker 01

  Those are vertical.

• 55:49Matt Farah?

People load golf bags vertically like that? I guess.

• 55:52Speaker 01

I guess. Is, is the van that tall? How tall is a golf bag once, with clubs in it? Four feet?

• 55:58Matt Farah?

A golf bag with clubs on it? Yeah, it's probably four, four feet, yeah.

• 56:01Speaker 01

  Alright.

• 56:01Matt Farah?

I mean, I guess you, one could load their van with the golf bags vertically. I've just, I've never seen that done. I've always seen them stacked like logs horizontally. I've never seen someone build a wall, a vertical wall of golf clubs in the back of a van before.

• 56:18Speaker 01

Why is the van in, like, intruding onto this gentleman's bicep tendon right here?

• 56:24Matt Farah?

  Well...

• 56:24Speaker 01

None of these people are standing next to a van.

• 56:26Matt Farah?

Maybe because that's AI people standing next to an AI van.

• 56:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:32Matt Farah?

But, but like, the screen is powered by AI. Why shouldn't the marketing be?

• 56:37Speaker 01

That is such a great note. That's a great, I wish I could find the video where it talks to people. It's so funny.

• 56:46Speaker 01

  Anyway, that's, anyway.

• 56:48Matt Farah?

  Oh, and Mariah Carey's there!

• 56:50Speaker 01

Well, she, they said that their concept car was in her music video.

• 56:55Matt Farah?

  Of course it was.

• 56:59Matt Farah?

Type Dangerous is electric. Yeah, right.

• 57:03Speaker 01

  Uh, their FF01.

• 57:05Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 57:06Speaker 01

  So...

• 57:07Matt Farah?

That was the, that was the, the one that they sold 12 of. That's it right there on the left.

• 57:11Speaker 01

  This thing?

• 57:12Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 57:13Speaker 01

She had this in her new video? In a new video?

• 57:15Matt Farah?

  I don't know. That's, oh, that's FF91? I don't know. Who, I don't know.

• 57:22Matt Farah?

  Yikes.

• 57:26Matt Farah?

All of it. Oh FF, oh FF01.

• 57:30Speaker 01

  There you go.

• 57:30Matt Farah?

  Excuse me.

• 57:32Speaker 01

F0 is right. I mean, this looks like no one, almost no one listening is young enough to have played that, or old enough to have played that game, but.

• 57:40Matt Farah?

  F0 ruled.

• 57:41Speaker 01

It was awesome. It was incredible.

• 57:42Matt Farah?

Do you know how long it took me to put together that F0, it was like, like F1, but zero?

• 57:49Speaker 01

I didn't know that until now.

• 57:50Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 57:51Speaker 01

  No.

• 57:51Matt Farah?

  Yes, someone dumber than me.

• 57:53Speaker 01

  Oh, definitely.

• 57:54Matt Farah?

Yeah, it was like F1, but zero.

• 57:56Speaker 01

  So shouldn't it be F?

• 57:57Matt Farah?

  Cause zero gravity.

• 57:58Speaker 01

Yeah, oh, but the cars were, gravity was.

• 58:01Matt Farah?

Cars had gravity. Oh, they flew, though?

• 58:03Speaker 01

  No.

• 58:03Matt Farah?

  They have zero?

• 58:05Speaker 01

F0, but they were on the ground, I thought, and then you hit jumps.

• 58:07Matt Farah?

I thought they were like hover-y.

• 58:09Speaker 01

Maybe they were hover-y. But also, I think to your point, it goes F4321 is the best, so F0 is even beyond that.

• 58:15Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 58:15Speaker 01

  So that makes sense.

• 58:16Matt Farah?

Yeah, it took me a very long time to get that. Yeah, this can, this can go away.

• 58:21Speaker 01

All right, we can talk about something else.

• 58:27Matt Farah?

We got a few cars. Uh, Westside is, uh, dude, this M3, Eric's M3 is gonna end, if this goes up tomorrow, it's, it ends Tuesday at like 2 o'clock PM. Eric, this is like the cleanest BMW F80 M3 ever, with like choice mods and BBS wheels and all the stock parts also.

• 58:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 58:46Matt Farah?

Uh, it's probably gonna go for like 42 to 45, I think, I hope. Lot of action on it already, lot of bidders.

• 58:55Speaker 01

Eric takes care of his plane like an airline takes care of their plane, but he never flies it anywhere. So it's, it's like perfectly maintained and looks amazing.

• 59:04Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 59:04Speaker 01

Like it's got great mods on it and no one's kicked the shit out of it like my car.

• 59:08Matt Farah?

Uh, and then we got a really nice, uh, 7,000 mile Boxer GTS, uh, in a Venturine with a chalk interior, manual gearbox, 7,000 miles, good, really good, good clean DME report, service history, one owner car, very nice. Take that motherfucker to wine country all day. Uh, and a Venturine is a very. Color. Uh, it was not PTS in 2021 when this was new, but it is PTS now. So to replicate this car now would probably cost you about a hundred and twenty-five to a hundred and thirty thousand dollars. Well. And this one will probably, I'm hoping will go for eighty-five.

• 59:52Matt Farah?

Uh, eighty-five, ninety. I'm not saying what the reserve is, but that's kind of where I hope to to end up. And now, and then we just put this one up, Z4M Coupe in Sepang Bronze, uh, rare color. Uh, it's, it's got eighty thousand miles on it, but tons of service history going back, I think, all the way to new. Um, really well taken care of, great color. Uh, and it's got a, uh, this, an exhaust on it, cat back exhaust that is, uh, apparently a very desirable type of cat back exhaust. I forget what it is, but I drove it. It sounds really nice. Sunstrom, does that sound right? That'd be a. Oh, Stromung. Strom, Stromung, yeah, it sounds great. Nice base, not too, uh, raspy.

• 1:00:37Matt Farah?

Um, and it's got, it has not had the, um, what do you call it done? Uh, the rod bearings? But it has a super clean, uh, recent Blackstone thing. The, the owner is a lunatic and has gotten Blackstone reports every year. Nice. So he's, he, he said, I, I brought up like the rod bearings. He was like, my mechanic insists we not do it until it's necessary. All right, man. Cool. Like whatever. Um, so, but good, clean, honest. Uh, I'll call it, uh, uh, driver plus. You know, it's an eighty thousand mile car, but it presents very, very well and it's in a rare and desirable, um, color combination. Yeah, cool.

• 1:01:18Matt Farah?

Yeah, you do not see a lot of Sepang Bronze. The last like twenty-five on bat have been silver, black or white. Um, so anyway, those are up now. Go, go bid, uh, if you're into those. They're, uh, and they're of course available at, uh, WCCS for inspection seven days a week, although by the time you hear this, you probably won't have time to see that BMW, but trust me, that one is fucking A says. Um.

• 1:01:44Matt Farah?

Should we go to the people?

• 1:01:45Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:01:46Matt Farah?

Um, before we do, oh, man, so the, the, the headache that I have had to deal with, with re-importing my engine, I have had to tell like 12 different people, like stu- so many people. I am not a business. I am just a guy. I am not an importer. I am just a guy. I do not, I do not plan to import more of anything. I'm just a guy. The thing I'm importing, I already own. I sent it out. Matter of fact, you fucking sent it out.

• 1:02:28Matt Farah?

Like, this is like the shipping company that I used to send it there, is now like totally confused about bringing it back because the fucking exporting people and the importing people are different people that like don't talk to each other. I swear to God, this is the Seinfeldiest, stupidest shit ever. But like, the number of, like, the forms that I have to fill out where it's like, they want like business documents and like, because they're trying to like set you up to like be an importer of goods, which I'm not.

• 1:03:01Speaker 01

Right, and you don't want to be.

• 1:03:02Matt Farah?

I don't, I'm not, I don't want to be. I'm a guy who sent his engine somewhere to get worked on, and now that very same engine that your, your company sent for me is coming back.

• 1:03:13Speaker 01

Who owns your car? You own your car? Like, it's not registered, like?

• 1:03:18Matt Farah?

  Yeah, me, Matthew, Matthew Farah.

• 1:03:21Speaker 01

Right, then that should, should be simple. I guess it is.

• 1:03:23Matt Farah?

Well, the, the engine doesn't even need to be connected to the car, but like, yeah, it's like, it's, it, they have documentation from whatever, last summer, that this engine, engine number blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and this gearbox, number blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, were shipped in this crate to this place. One year later, that same shit is going back the other way. Like.

• 1:03:47Speaker 01

  Should be simple.

• 1:03:48Matt Farah?

  That's it.

• 1:03:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:50Matt Farah?

And I was like, they're having me fill out all these forms and says, you know, tariff code, tariff class. And I'm like, calling this guy up going, hey, man, listen, the tariff on this needs to be zero. This is my stuff.

• 1:04:02Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:04:03Matt Farah?

And the guy was like, okay, but like, you know, like, what do you mean? I was like, I am having a car restored. I shipped my engine to Italy. They were, they're rebuilt it. It's now coming back. And the guy was like, oh, so like, wait, you already own the thing? I go, yeah. And he goes, oh, okay, well, I'm gonna have to send you a different form. I'm like, dude, like, just please, like, you have to understand, this is all my stuff.

• 1:04:34Speaker 01

Yeah, you're not importing new things.

• 1:04:36Matt Farah?

And like, apparently this is some kind of commercial level importer that like regular people don't go to. It was recommended by our friend who has the business. And I, and, and, and it was very easy going that way. There was not, I mean, I had to fill out a couple of pieces of paperwork, that's it. This, but, but there's just no communication. So like, I think they finally understand that I actually own this thing already. And I shouldn't be paying taxes on it, so, but like, holy fucking.

• 1:05:07Speaker 01

I bet they're dealing with a lot of different emails and phone calls, uh, these days. And, and you're getting, you're just getting caught up in the wash, man.

• 1:05:14Matt Farah?

There were also surprise, uh, my parents, when we went to Italy, we went to this place called Murano. That's known for the glass blowing. You should have come in when you were over the house to see it.

• 1:05:25Speaker 01

Where, which city is that in?

• 1:05:26Matt Farah?

In Venice. It's one of the islands, Venice, the city of Venice is made of a bunch of islands. One of these islands is a famous legendary for 500 years glass blowing.

• 1:05:35Speaker 01

Okay, I think I went there when I was 12.

• 1:05:36Matt Farah?

If you went to Venice, it's a thing that like everybody does. It's cool as fuck. I mean, it's like, it's really rad. So we went and, you know, look around and my mother, because of course, is, is buying a bunch of glass.

• 1:05:49Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:05:49Matt Farah?

Cause as you would, when you're, when you're there, uh, she, when I went, when I was 12, she bought a bunch of glass then. Um, and.

• 1:05:56Speaker 01

Her Bond collection is awesome. It is awesome.

• 1:06:00Matt Farah?

Ripping tubes, my mother, all the time. Ah, const, you should see the, the hue. When, when she it, it glows from the inside.

• 1:06:10Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:06:10Matt Farah?

  It's really

• 1:06:11Speaker 01

  Has this shirt.

• 1:06:13Matt Farah?

Um, but, uh, yeah, surprise fucking tariff when that arrived at customs. They held that shit hostage and I, I, you know, called my mom, no problem. Hey, just so you know, I wasn't, you know. I was saying, dude, cause she got, she's expecting a package too. Her package is quite a bit bigger than my package. And I was like, just so you know, expect, and she was like, oh, well, they, they said that there wouldn't be tariffs. And I said, well, they are either stupid or lying. Because by the time there's fucking tariffs, guess what? You've bought the thing, you're already home and this shit's sitting in customs, you know?

• 1:06:54Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:06:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:55Speaker 01

It's changing, huh? I don't know how that works.

• 1:06:57Matt Farah?

  I don't know.

• 1:06:58Speaker 01

  Bought there, but I, I don't know.

• 1:07:00Matt Farah?

I don't know, but the tariff wasn't small.

• 1:07:03Speaker 01

  Nope.

• 1:07:03Matt Farah?

  It was big.

• 1:07:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:04Matt Farah?

So, yeah. It's very pretty though, this piece of glass. Glows in the dark too. Literally.

• 1:07:11Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:07:11Matt Farah?

Yeah, I'm so childish. The, the one I wanted glows in the dark.

• 1:07:15Speaker 01

  Wow, that's cool.

• 1:07:15Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's awesome, actually. It has a tritium dust.

• 1:07:19Speaker 01

  It's got aluminum?

• 1:07:19Matt Farah?

Tritium dust. I don't, wait. I think it's tritium dust. Yeah. That they, they grind tritium dust into the glass.

• 1:07:26Speaker 01

  That makes sense.

• 1:07:27Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:27Speaker 01

  That's super cool.

• 1:07:28Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's crazy. You should have seen it there when we went and we were in the gallery and they fucking go, you wanna see this? And you know, everything's beautifully lit and whatever. You're like, oh, it's all so beautiful. And then they go, blee, and lower the shades and then hit all the lights and the whole fucking room glows in the dark. It's crazy. Yeah, it was awesome. Yeah. Yeah, it's, it's really, it's a fucking jellyfish in an orb that glows in the dark. It's crazy.

• 1:07:50Speaker 01

Do you have pictures of it? Show me later.

• 1:07:52Matt Farah?

  I, yeah.

• 1:07:53Speaker 01

  Alright, yeah, show me later.

• 1:07:54Matt Farah?

  I'll, I'll, uh, yeah, I can, uh, yeah, I, I.

• 1:07:57Speaker 01

I have tritium on something, but it doesn't, uh, it's not a glass sculpture, but it could help me get a glass sculpture if I really want one.

• 1:08:05Matt Farah?

Put this in some jellyfish. Uh, let's go to the fucking people, uh, and of course, uh, this show, if you're in Texas today, this will go up Thursday, right? Uh, yes. Because if you're in, if you're in Houston today, we're gonna be at the Shop Club tonight, uh, Houston, Texas, and tomorrow night, uh, July 25th in Dallas, Texas, at the Shop Club, with Christian James Hand, uh, doing the show live. There are a few tickets remaining for both, so come out and see us, have a beer with the boys. Uh, we got, uh, exclusive posters we're gonna be signing. Uh, we got some TST merch we're gonna be signing, um, and, uh, we're taking pictures and hanging out

• 1:08:46Matt Farah?

and bullshitting about cars, uh, and listening to Christian James Hand's show, which is all, which is actually why I'm going to Texas. Um, so yeah, uh, but anyway, do that, please, come see us. Uh, and of course, the Patreon is where it is, uh-oh, the screen is turned off, Zach. The Patreon is where it's all going down. If you wanna ask us questions for the show, if you wanna listen to the show live, if you wanna listen to the show before everybody else, if you wanna listen to the show without ads, if you wanna get extra show, if you wanna get early access to limited edition merch and collabs, uh, that's where it's all going down. Patreon.com/the Smoking Tire Podcast. Mm-hmm.

• 1:09:31Matt Farah?

Okay, Machine Gun Kelly Blue Book, that's a fucking heavy name right there. Always, that, if you wanna, if you, if those people out there want an easy guide to coming up with a great name, contraction, turn two things into, into one thing. The word Kelly overlaps, you turn two things into one thing. That's a great way to come up with a great name if you're not super creative on your own. Start with that framework. Um, oh, wants to talk about the roof that fell off the carrier. Do you think more damage was done to the chassis or the driver's seat? I mean, that picture is fucking hilarious.

• 1:10:18Matt Farah?

Oh, following a trip to Germany for fresh paint, dude. Oh, that stinks.

• 1:10:23Speaker 01

And the driver's seat comment is because whoever's transporting it is sitting in the driver's seat, backed it up. I mean, the thing fell.

• 1:10:31Matt Farah?

Sucks. To be honest with you, we don't have another angle. We just have this one side profile. And to be honest, it doesn't look that bad. Like, it really doesn't look that bad.

• 1:10:45Speaker 01

It doesn't, but I think that might be because the exhaust is probably holding up the car. Like, I think the engine probably took some of the hit. The bumper took some of the hit.

• 1:10:53Matt Farah?

Yeah, I don't know. The engine might have been pretty well protected. I mean, it didn't... It doesn't look that crunched in at the back. I mean, the bumper's definitely fucked. Maybe the exhaust. I mean, it's possible the engine took a hit, but like, all in all, it doesn't look that bad. Like, it's not like it fell off on its roof. Ha ha, lol. But it did. It fell off on its roof.

• 1:11:20Speaker 01

How does this happen? I mean, you've got like a ramp here. Did the ramp start going up there as this person was backing up? That is very strange.

• 1:11:27Matt Farah?

It's... I don't know. That is a fucking hilarious picture, though. Goldmine for who got that.

• 1:11:34Speaker 01

  Oof, bad day.

• 1:11:35Matt Farah?

And also, look at the Instagram account that they have sent. They've chosen to share. Tim A. Rank the following cars based on engagement as driver's cars. M5 Touring, RS6, Porsche Cayenne GTS. Cayenne number one.

• 1:11:58Matt Farah?

M5 number two, RS6 number three. But it's almost like the inverse of that. Like, if you talk about like ride quality for everyday drive, like which one would I actually want to drive every day? It's probably RS6, then Cayenne, then M5. Like, the M5 sucks at most things, and we'll get to that in the next show. But if you really want to turn into a corner hard, it does that. It does the hardcore driver's stuff like pretty well. It's just the rest of it that's so bad that you have to live with every day.

• 1:12:38Speaker 01

The last time I drove an RS6 on the road was years ago in Malibu. I remember it being stiff. The RS6 Avant GT I drove had... Great turn in in dynamics for being such a heavy car. Like, it was better than the GTS, and the GTS is very good, because I drove one of those last year, I think. I haven't driven the M5 quickly yet. But I think the, I would go RS6 Avant GT above Porsche Cayenne GTS.

• 1:13:02Matt Farah?

Yeah. James May's Big Brown Beaver, which I like.

• 1:13:08Matt Farah?

Heaven forbid something happened to the Countach. What would I buy at Pebble for equal value? Pebble's a bad place to shop, everything is expensive there. But shit, let's, what do you want to say? I guess, let's say I could get $750 for the Countach?

• 1:13:23Speaker 01

Oh, I know what you're getting.

• 1:13:24Matt Farah?

You know what I'm getting for $750?

• 1:13:25Speaker 01

Ford GT. You're gonna get a Ford GT.

• 1:13:29Matt Farah?

A quicksilver Ford, a quicksilver Ford GT. That would probably be, man, but that would feel like a downgrade. Because that's, those are great, but they wouldn't, that doesn't feel like a million dollar experience.

• 1:13:42Speaker 01

  Then you go Carrera GT.

• 1:13:43Matt Farah?

You're not getting one for $750.

• 1:13:45Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:13:46Matt Farah?

No. Carrera GTs? Doug spent 1.6 on his.

• 1:13:51Speaker 01

  No shit?

• 1:13:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:52Speaker 01

  Oh, my god.

• 1:13:53Matt Farah?

  Them's expensive.

• 1:13:53Speaker 01

I thought they were still three quarter and up, depending on mileage.

• 1:13:56Matt Farah?

Them's expensive. That's actually a kind of a tough place to be, is $750. You're not...

• 1:14:06Speaker 01

I'm just gonna Google violin music really quick.

• 1:14:09Matt Farah?

No, no, I don't mean, I don't mean it like that. I just mean like, it's like the comps are really weird. Like, you could buy a great, a great but not exceptional 60's Ferrari GT, like touring car. You could buy a fabulous, fabulous 356 Speedster. Or a 356 coupe and get into, like, events, like the Colorado Grand and stuff. You get an Emery car. You could get one of those crazy Emery outlaw cars. That'll get you, that'll get you in the club there.

• 1:14:40Speaker 01

Because then you get some speed. Because a 356...

• 1:14:43Matt Farah?

To be perfectly honest, I would use the money on a down payment for a Singer Turbo and find the rest of it later.

• 1:14:52Matt Farah?

Is probably what I do and figure out what else I could sell or however else I could pay for that is probably if I found myself with an insurance check for that much money I would call Maz and go I'll see you in the morning um time to build me a car because that's you just stop after that yeah like that's a good idea unless you could if I could get an ST for a number starting with a five and then put the rest in the bank and be and go okay tapped out yeah because that also feels very special yeah and I and I wouldn't have to go finding more money yeah and you wouldn't have to wait three years

• 1:15:34Matt Farah?

but if I had three years I could find the rest of the money that's a good point I could in three years I could find that money yeah uh lock shock Daryl oh see that's a pretty good one but it should be lock shock and two smoking Darrells should be lock stock and two smoking Darrells yeah but I like where your head is at uh thoughts on the doxa sub 300T have you ever owned one I own a doxa 1000T ooh mine is a bigger number I don't know what these are I thought this was a van yeah doxes are great um doxes is a is a dive watch tool watch uh vintage vibes um it was a vintage they they were making them in the in the 60s 70s 80s the

• 1:16:17Matt Farah?

preferred watch of a guy you might have heard of named Jacques Cousteau um and uh they have very cool uh bright colored dials on some of their models their orange is very well known the yellow is very well known I like this turquoise joint you've got up um mine has a black dial my uncle is a was a Navy diver and is like a soup is a pretty hardcore scuba diver mine looks like the one on the right it's the the shark hunter um with the black dial and he gave me that watch as a gift um because he's got like 15 doxes and I I expressed interest in in doxa so he gave me that and I sent him the he wanted the blue notice Canyon Knights

• 1:17:01Matt Farah?

Sky number one, so I traded him.

• 1:17:04Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 1:17:04Matt Farah?

A notice for a Doxa. But I think these are very cool watches and I wear, I wear that. It wasn't a brand I thought about much before my uncle gave me the watch. But now that I have it, I wear it all the time. It's really comfortable. It's really well made.

• 1:17:21Speaker 01

  Can I ask?

• 1:17:22Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:22Speaker 01

Is there a function, like is there a functional reason for the like flare out around the bezel thing? Or is it just for style?

• 1:17:30Matt Farah?

It's, it's mostly for style. And they do have some watches that don't have a smaller dial than a case. There's some where it's full, full width. But that's like the vintage look, the sort of cushion case.

• 1:17:44Speaker 01

  Gotcha.

• 1:17:44Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:47Matt Farah?

I do love me a Doxa, though. It's a good watch. Too Loud for Laguna, that's a good name, too. Uh, in Japan, the authorities have speed cameras to catch violators, then they have devices that ping the violator's phone. So they can track them down and arrest them. How long until the Texas government uses a similar system to catch fleeing roll racers? You know what's so funny about Texas? Didn't you, was it you who sent me that story? That Texas was the least free state, actually?

• 1:18:15Speaker 01

It wasn't the least free, but like it ranked, oh, it was the least free.

• 1:18:17Matt Farah?

  It was the least free.

• 1:18:18Speaker 01

Pure research thing and they looked at a bunch of stuff like religion, I mean, they looked at everything like. And I'm citing the things that were specific to California, but it was like, can you use marijuana? What's the religion? Like, what's the restrictions like on abortion? Like basically everything.

• 1:18:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:31Speaker 01

And Texas was the least free.

• 1:18:33Matt Farah?

  Yeah, turns out.

• 1:18:35Speaker 01

It's like BLM and open land and permitting things. Like, I don't know. It was a bunch of stuff, but on that list, yes.

• 1:18:41Matt Farah?

Um, so yeah, it would be the, probably the first to you to become a total surveillance state in that regard. That stuff they do, um, what, what this person just described also happens in the Middle East a lot. Thaddeus used to describe that kind of thing happening.

• 1:18:56Speaker 01

  Cameras everywhere.

• 1:18:57Matt Farah?

Yeah, like if you even tried to do a thing, they'd just show up at your door.

• 1:19:01Speaker 01

Yeah, they'd just track you backwards.

• 1:19:03Matt Farah?

Use the cameras to follow you home and, uh, our friend worked for a well-known computer company over there and confirmed that that was in fact true because he was the one maintaining the servers for that.

• 1:19:17Speaker 01

Sorry, Cato Institute said that Texas was found to be the state with the least personal, fewest personal freedoms. Is Adam yelling at us?

• 1:19:23Matt Farah?

Is Adam yelling at us? Hang on. Hello, there is a exploded fire hydrant across the street from the shop. Fun times.

• 1:19:31Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm, it's a geyser.

• 1:19:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, okay, where were we? Sorry about that. Uh, Chris from Colorado says, uh, Carrera T question. Uh, the 991.2s go for around a buck 20. Do they deserve to be trading at over their MSRP? Which was 100K back in 2018? Well, the dollar is worth 25% less than it was worth since then. So, at that, i- if you adjust for inflation appropriately, they're really held their value. And if you account for the tariffs on the new product and they maintain their desirability, you know, yeah. And not all Carrera Ts are 120K. That's a pretty nice one.

• 1:20:14Speaker 01

Yeah, that must be a little mile.

• 1:20:15Matt Farah?

You can get a 2018 Carrera T for less than that because our friend Dean Del Rey did get himself a Carrera T.

• 1:20:22Speaker 01

  Oh, he didn't?

• 1:20:23Matt Farah?

Yeah, he was dreaming of it for years and got his ass a Carrera T.

• 1:20:26Speaker 01

And he was gonna safari it?

• 1:20:27Matt Farah?

  Dean, I told him to.

• 1:20:28Speaker 01

But yeah, Inflation Calculator, 100 grand in 2018 is $128,000 right now.

• 1:20:34Matt Farah?

  So, there-

• 1:20:35Speaker 01

  Or vice versa.

• 1:20:36Matt Farah?

Their yeas go. Uh, Hot Dog Bathroom Enthusiast, there we go, thank you very much. Doug said, Doug Demuro said, "The Infiniti QX80 looks like a Land Cruiser that's underwater." That's pretty funny. I used to call the Infiniti QXs the Beluga whales. That was, that was the common, the colloquial name. Land Cruiser that's underwater, I think is funny because it's more like, looking like a, it's like, it's like a waviness, like it's like an, an out of focus Land Cruiser, you know?

• 1:21:07Matt Farah?

But what are, the best examples of something looking like a worse version of a more popular competitor? Almost all Infiniti Q45s were just worse version of Lexus LS400s. Except the very first one, the very first Q45 was almost a legitimate Lexus competitor. And I think it did beat the Lexus in sales for one year.

• 1:21:33Matt Farah?

Hmm, what else is a- The Ford Explorer, flagrantly copying the Range Rover design?

• 1:21:40Speaker 01

Yes, yeah, like from blinkers, so many things, the wraparound stuff.

• 1:21:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:46Speaker 01

If you put a cover on both of them.

• 1:21:48Matt Farah?

  That was a fun one.

• 1:21:49Speaker 01

  That's a good one.

• 1:21:50Matt Farah?

Uh, who else did a much worse job of?

• 1:21:57Speaker 01

I mean, in a way, C8 Corvette, Ferrari, but not, it's its own thing. Oh, that's only under a cover. That's not a good one.

• 1:22:05Matt Farah?

Yeah, I don't know about C8. Who does, uh, hmm.

• 1:22:12Speaker 01

  Bronco Sport and Bronco.

• 1:22:15Matt Farah?

  Yeah, you ain't lying.

• 1:22:17Speaker 01

It's in the awkward teenage years, you know?

• 1:22:18Matt Farah?

Yeah. I don't know. That's a very tough question. Who did a worse version of the? I mean, actually, I'll, I'll, I'll counterpoint that.

• 1:22:30Matt Farah?

I think the Chrysler 300 in many ways was more attractive than the Rolls Royce Phantom at the time. Just from a pure, in, in 05, when it came out, I think the Chrysler 300.

• 1:22:44Speaker 01

  Great looking car.

• 1:22:45Matt Farah?

Did a pretty good job and, and, and made a little more of a statement even than the Rolls Royce Phantom.

• 1:22:50Speaker 01

Well, it was a little bit more aggressive.

• 1:22:52Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:52Speaker 01

Some of the edges were just a little harder and it looked really good.

• 1:22:56Matt Farah?

I mean, there is, of course, the, the very famous Cat Williams, which I say all the time. It looked like a Phantom till a Phantom pull up and he isn't wrong because it wasn't built like a Phantom. And in the beginning, if you remember back to 05 to 07, all rappers and everybody, they, they treated it like it was a budget Phantom.

• 1:23:14Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:23:16Matt Farah?

And it's a fucking great line and very accurate. Cat Williams is very smart, actually, but, um, but, uh,

• 1:23:23Matt Farah?

but in some ways it did look better than the Phantom, actually. Benjamin Frankenfurter, Waymo is currently testing in Philadelphia with a fleet of vehicles driven by safety operators. Uh, with your experience of going to Penn, how do you think Waymo's vehicles are going to be welcomed in the city of brotherly love? Go Birds. So.

• 1:23:46Matt Farah?

It's the go birds that that is the that's the that's the twist.

• 1:23:51Speaker 01

  That's how you know.

• 1:23:52Matt Farah?

That's the M. Night Shyamalan, who's from Philly. Twist is that not just that they're from Philly, but go birds means that if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, all the Waymos are going to get lit on fire. That's what go birds means. Because Phil, whatever a major sports thing happens in Philly, Eagles win, Eagles lose, Sixers win, Sixers big, big game, pick a big game. Whatever happens, if they win, if they lose, cop cars upside down on fire. Reliable. So.

• 1:24:25Speaker 01

More reliable than the steel industry.

• 1:24:27Matt Farah?

Reliable, dude. Philly's got that shit on lockdown, so. Those safety operators are not there to train the drivers. They are there because they're probably armed in case people roll up with Molotov cocktails.

• 1:24:40Speaker 01

Imagine they say that that's your job. You know, it's like you quit your job as a new ICE agent because you're too traumatized. And they're like, would you like to work for Waymo? And you go, sure. And they go, your job is to protect this car during a riot.

• 1:24:50Matt Farah?

Dude, Philly's pretty advanced. I'm that's that'll be interesting. Philly is a very advanced place to be testing Waymos because the roads are heinous. They're so fucking bad.

• 1:25:02Speaker 01

But does that matter? The car, I mean, the car, it can't avoid potholes, though.

• 1:25:05Matt Farah?

No, it try, it tries to avoid potholes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:25:08Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:25:08Matt Farah?

It it uses like, like a lidar scanning thing and it does, it doesn't always succeed. In my experience, it doesn't always succeed, but it does attempt to avoid big potholes. Yeah. Um, and Philly's fucked up.

• 1:25:20Speaker 01

  And zigzagging.

• 1:25:21Matt Farah?

Yeah. And Philly's not a place where things can't be left unattended. You can't, you, where things can be left, you just, you don't leave things unattended.

• 1:25:32Speaker 01

Has anyone, I wonder, tried to steal the wheels off a Waymo? You know, you throw a couple of jacks under it and before it can, you know, robot scoot away, you just go and then.

• 1:25:41Matt Farah?

  If you like NASCAR it.

• 1:25:42Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, if you get, if you, if people walk up and they get the axles in the air.

• 1:25:47Matt Farah?

Dude, but it, but it'll have you on so many cameras.

• 1:25:50Speaker 01

People, that doesn't matter these days, people have masks on. Maybe it can auto open the doors and hit you in the head like a Model X.

• 1:25:55Matt Farah?

  Security features.

• 1:25:58Matt Farah?

Nice cams has been tracking SS1LE for two years and the only thing that's been getting to me recently is the lack of top end power. I've been looking into going full bolt on headers intake manifold etc. After tune it'll probably be $8,000 or so. Is it worth it for an additional 50 horsepower up top in addition to the badass sound? I think it will fool you into thinking you're going a whole lot faster and you won't actually be going all that much faster at the end of that back straight. Is my thought on that.

• 1:26:42Speaker 01

I think, I mean 50 is a pretty significant amount and if it like either raises the red line or the power band moves up a lot. That's great, but I think you'll get bored of that power so quickly, especially if the only place this person's really noticing it is on a straightaway. And you're gonna go, oh, now what? So like if I could get out of the Camaro into a vet. You know, and take that eight grand and I could get myself into like a track ready vet, that would probably feel faster. I mean, it weighs less. Right? It weighs less, probably feel faster and then it's a higher caliber car.

• 1:27:20Matt Farah?

I agree. 8K into that car, assuming it's pretty stock now. Sell it while it's stock. You know, and then put the money into a different car.

• 1:27:34Speaker 01

Yeah. Easier to sell when it's stock.

• 1:27:36Matt Farah?

I can't argue with like a nice sounding Camaro on the track, but that's a lot of money for not a whole lot of return. I mean, we just drove this Porsche, okay? And for, we'll talk about it on next episode. But, but for effectively $20,000 in aftermarket modifications, you're getting 250 horsepower. For you to spend $8,000 to get 50 NA horsepower is not a good value for money.

• 1:28:09Speaker 01

That's BMW power for money or that's NA Porsche.

• 1:28:12Matt Farah?

It's air cooled Porsche. That's air cooled Porsche money.

• 1:28:15Speaker 01

  No, it's true. Yeah.

• 1:28:17Matt Farah?

Like either fucking go, go all the way, spend 10, 12 and go supercharger.

• 1:28:24Matt Farah?

With the shit that you need to keep it cool for track work. Effectively turn your car into a ZL1, right? Do that, or new car.

• 1:28:34Speaker 01

Yeah, and if you love the Camaro, maybe you can go get it.

• 1:28:37Matt Farah?

Maybe you can get a ZL1.

• 1:28:38Speaker 01

Do that, and then, then, cause then you're in stock and you can sell it when you wanna sell it. But selling something with head, head work will be more complicated.

• 1:28:44Matt Farah?

Yeah, uh, the one pothole on the FDR drive. Oh, that one pothole on the FDR drive, yeah, pronouncing that right does make all the difference. I know the one you're talking about, motherfucker. Uh, my mom and I wanna get, oh, I love where this is going already. My mom and I wanna get a convertible to share for cruising and road trips. Now, I, I hope you and your mother have a fucking really good relationship because sharing a car with somebody is, it's a dangerous game. Uh, I'll be maintaining it myself, okay? She's been eyeballing E46 330 CIs and a similar E90.

• 1:29:24Matt Farah?

I'm looking at Lexus SC430s and IS 250 350 convertibles. Anything else I should be looking at for 10K? Let me just say that so far, your mother actually has much better taste than you here. Lexus SC430s and IS convertibles kinda suck.

• 1:29:44Speaker 01

They're, you know, well, it's funny, I'm actually surprised because I see a lot of women in LA driving SC430s.

• 1:29:51Matt Farah?

They're popular, but that doesn't make them good.

• 1:29:54Speaker 01

  I agree, it's, it's a Solar but with a louder engine.

• 1:29:56Matt Farah?

Yeah, um, okay. What are you missing? You're missing a Jaguar. A Jaguar XK8 you can absolutely get for $10,000.

• 1:30:06Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:30:07Matt Farah?

Would, do you want one? No, also Corvettes. You can absolutely get a really nice C4 Corvette, automatic convertible for that kinda money. Hundred percent.

• 1:30:20Speaker 01

Yeah, I bet if, if mom's looking at Beamers. I mean, comfort is just for road trips, so comfort's important. I, I would want a more modern car than a C4 Corvette, and if you're gonna do the work yourself. Uh, E46 330 CI. Should be pretty stout.

• 1:30:37Matt Farah?

I think that would just be a really nice car to drive anyway.

• 1:30:40Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:30:41Matt Farah?

Uh, yeah, or, or if it's an E90, the problem with an E90 is, is it gonna have a hard top? They don't all have retractable hard tops, right?

• 1:30:50Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 1:30:51Matt Farah?

Didn't some, didn't some E90, like, like you want a 328 E90. Is that a soft top or a retractable hard top? Pretty sure it's a soft top.

• 1:31:03Matt Farah?

  Anyway.

• 1:31:04Speaker 01

The E90 was a very sophisticated folding hard top.

• 1:31:07Matt Farah?

Really? Okay. Yeah, you don't want that. E46 330 CI is an excellent choice. I mean, maybe boxers, but if you're maintaining it yourself, that could be a bitch. I like where your head's at, though. Uh, Zach's underdrive pulley. Thoughts on the Ioniq 6N? Um, I, we can't really have many thoughts on it without driving it. I, I've already put in requests to drive it.

• 1:31:35Matt Farah?

So, uh, I imagine if it's like a improved on version of the Ioniq 5N, I will probably like it a lot. Um, uh, Unshitboxt says, could electric cars have smaller motors that use electric, less electricity and smaller battery packs? Or the same pack and longer range for 400 to 500 miles? They don't all need to be dragsters. Okay. Um, I thought this too. And this is, um, gas car common sense, right? If you put a, a GTI motor in a Bugatti Chiron, couldn't you then go 1,000 miles on that same tank of gas? Uh, electric cars don't really work like that. Um, the same, um,

• 1:32:19Matt Farah?

the, the, the, the high-powered motor, the, the motor itself that outputs 1,000 horsepower doesn't take anymore to run or to output 100 horsepower than a motor that puts out 200 horsepower. They're like the same. So, and the motors themselves are small, relatively lightweight and relatively affordable. So the incremental cost of making it 1,000 horsepower doesn't take away from its range. The other thing that you need to make 1,000 horsepower is also a huge battery pack, which is what you need for range anyway. So.

• 1:32:58Matt Farah?

You could buy you, there's no such thing really as if you well, if you have the horsepower, wouldn't you double the range like? No, it doesn't. It doesn't actually work like that.

• 1:33:10Matt Farah?

You have a big battery in order to have the range and then you justify the, the, the price of it by saying, and oh, by the way, it also has a thousand horsepower.

• 1:33:20Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:33:21Matt Farah?

That's how you sell it for a hundred grand.

• 1:33:22Speaker 01

Cause if you can get the current from the battery to the motor.

• 1:33:24Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 1:33:24Speaker 01

Quickly, you can make more power. So it's like having a huge gas tank, but somehow having a larger gas tank equals more horsepower in an ice car.

• 1:33:32Matt Farah?

Right. But it doesn't, but if you're cruising along in a, in a, what one might call hypermiling, the fact that your EV, uh, let's call it a Lucid, same car. One has 500 horsepower, one has a thousand horsepower, otherwise the same car. The, it, it doesn't, you just puttering along in the very fast one, other than having maybe wider, stickier tires and things like that for performance reasons, it's not, it's the same. Um, the really, the only real difference is if you go to the single motor. If you ditch the all wheel drive and you go, this is the rear wheel drive, single motor, you will have an increase in range then. But, but if it's an all wheel drive one, having the power does

• 1:34:17Matt Farah?

not increase your range. In fact, there's arguments that having it, making it have more power could increase, you know, there's like good faith.

• 1:34:25Speaker 01

Cause the motor's doing less work.

• 1:34:26Matt Farah?

Yeah, there's like. There are good faith arguments that actually, you know, the more current we can get going that is, is, you know, it's better. So.

• 1:34:36Matt Farah?

Uh, granny shifting, not double clutching like you should. Me and Camisa were joking that we should add, oh, that I should add two cars to my ownership to get the 10 car Hagerty discount. What two cars would I add to the stable? I mean, are we talking about real money? I think if we're talking about real money and we have to be, and I'm really going for a discount, I might grab one of those E46 330 CI convertibles just as a fucking kick around car. Uh, cause that could be kind of fun. And, uh, just some, whatever other weird thing Hannah would like, because we have to make sure that the wife has all the toys that she wants too. Otherwise I cannot continue this toy purchasing process.

• 1:35:21Matt Farah?

And that, to that degree, I would say, uh, an E30, uh, BMW wagon, uh, for my wife. She would very much like that, yeah. Auto Bon Jovi, there we go, that's a good contraction, excellent.

• 1:35:39Matt Farah?

Roughly, how long does it usually take for buyers to pick up the car after waiting in auction? I would say it takes

• 1:35:50Matt Farah?

two to three days for the money exchange to be finalized. And then, once that happens, um, it really depends if the person is local or not. If they're local, they show up pretty much right away. If they are not local, then it comes down to, well, are they gonna fly in and drive it home? Are they going to, uh, are we gonna have a transporter come get it? I would say the average time of, of, okay, ding, auction done, and the car is gone, I never see it again, is probably

• 1:36:29Matt Farah?

  seven to 10 days.

• 1:36:32Matt Farah?

I think, yeah. Doctor, oh, Coldplay camera operator, best luxury vehicle for a divorced CEO?

• 1:36:41Speaker 01

Do you know why they're asking this question?

• 1:36:43Matt Farah?

Oh, for, oh, because it matches the username.

• 1:36:46Speaker 01

No, no, no, because of the guy from Astronomer.

• 1:36:48Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, no, because it matches the username, Coldplay camera operator.

• 1:36:51Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, yeah, that story, right.

• 1:36:52Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, because it's very, it's very prudent.

• 1:36:55Speaker 01

  It's amazing.

• 1:36:56Matt Farah?

Yeah, divorced CEO, um, should absolutely be driving a...

• 1:37:01Speaker 01

I'm going with Chevy HHR panel, because they can lean, I think the guy's pretty tall, so he can lean back and hide his face. People next to him won't be able to see who's driving, and no one will suspect that the CEO of Astronomer is driving this old truck.

• 1:37:16Matt Farah?

Yeah, oh, for that particular divorce CEO.

• 1:37:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:37:19Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, but I was thinking more like, I'm a CEO, and I'm divorced, and I'm trying to like, you know, like our friend over there. Our friend, up north.

• 1:37:31Matt Farah?

  Who got divorced.

• 1:37:33Speaker 01

  Which, I don't know.

• 1:37:33Matt Farah?

Is now having a very good time. He's our friend. Come on. Come on.

• 1:37:39Speaker 01

I feel like we have a lot of friends that got divorced.

• 1:37:41Matt Farah?

Right, right, but, but this one's having fun.

• 1:37:43Speaker 01

Okay, so what are they, what should they be driving?

• 1:37:45Matt Farah?

  I mean,

• 1:37:48Matt Farah?

9/11 in a fun color. If we're, if it's, honestly, I think, I think you should flex your PTS.

• 1:37:54Speaker 01

  Targa perhaps?

• 1:37:55Matt Farah?

Yeah. Dr. Cocteau says F1 decides it wants a street race in SoCal and asks you to design the track route. What layout would be your first suggestion?

• 1:38:07Speaker 01

I mean, first I would say, you're kidding, right? Because it's so, there's nothing smooth enough anywhere, really.

• 1:38:13Matt Farah?

Well, they repaved, like, Long Beach.

• 1:38:14Speaker 01

  They'd have to repave.

• 1:38:15Matt Farah?

Yeah, they repaved Vegas for the race.

• 1:38:18Speaker 01

It would be rad if they could shut down the city, like, and if they could have a section that, uh, like, through LAX. The horseshoe as a turn would be sick.

• 1:38:27Matt Farah?

  LAX.

• 1:38:28Speaker 01

And then down one of the, the ramps, like, Annapolis.

• 1:38:30Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:38:31Speaker 01

And then you could go up to the left, like, um, on Lincoln near Manchester.

• 1:38:34Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:38:35Speaker 01

And pass the school down the hill. Like, you could make a pretty cool course if it was smooth.

• 1:38:38Matt Farah?

Yeah. Uh, I'd like for them to redo the original Santa Monica Grand Prix course, uh, from, I believe it was 1906 to 1912. Uh, that was an eight-mile course.

• 1:38:50Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:38:51Matt Farah?

That, uh, started on Ocean Boulevard in Santa Monica. Let's pull up a map of Santa Monica real quick. All right, just Google Santa Monica Grand Prix, uh, course map. It, it started, start-finish line was south on, on the beach, on, on Ocean Boulevard in Santa Monica. It then turned east on Wilshire. Yeah, look at this, look at this insane O track.

• 1:39:15Matt Farah?

Uh, no, that's not it. It's the one, it's, uh, down, uh, to the right, that, up.

• 1:39:23Matt Farah?

That one, that's it. So, this is the course, so. Start finish is on the ocean and then there is a about a three mile dead straightaway going inland up Wilshire Boulevard. Uh, until you hit uh where the end of San Vicente Boulevard is, right in front of the VA Hospital there. Turn left on San Vicente and just rip all the way down, back down San Vicente to the ocean. You got like dead man's curve there, right at the ocean.

• 1:39:55Speaker 01

Sure do, this is gonna be a low downforce configuration.

• 1:39:57Matt Farah?

So there's an eight mile circuit.

• 1:40:01Speaker 01

And then brake, brake, brake, brake, brake, ninety degree corner and then just drive.

• 1:40:04Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:40:05Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:40:05Matt Farah?

A heritage, baby. It's about the heritage. So that's, that's what I would like to see. Um, I think that'd be fun, right? Mini Finny says, uh, in the past, I've generally been anti-replica as the first question anyone asks is, is it real? Uh, do you still feel that way? Um, for instance, I can buy a, what is a rousch, oh, a supercharged?

• 1:40:33Speaker 01

Like a GT forty replica? You can do that or you can buy a nine nine three for a hundred and forty grand.

• 1:40:38Matt Farah?

  I mean.

• 1:40:38Speaker 01

You could buy this crazy nine eleven T.

• 1:40:41Matt Farah?

I mean, look. It, it, it's not going to bother everybody the way it bothered me to say to everyone who asked, no, it's a replica. And I bet you this GT forty is a great fucking time. And just like Cobras, there's plenty of people who would love the experience of feeling like you're in LeMans and being Ken Miles.

• 1:41:04Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:41:05Matt Farah?

And don't have, whatever, ten million dollars it takes to buy a real GT forty. And even if you did have ten million dollars, you probably wouldn't want to drive down the street. So like, if what you want is the experience of, of a real-ish feeling GT forty, cause these feel legit as hell, then they're fun. Um, I think the GT forty is the nicest car that super performance makes, by the way, from a quality um standpoint. They, they're fucking great, they really are. Yeah, they are awesome. But just me personally, yeah, it would, it would drive me nuts. The first thing anyone asks, is it real? And you have to go, no, but, and then tell a whole story.

• 1:41:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:41:45Matt Farah?

  It's just, whatever.

• 1:41:46Speaker 01

Yeah. I don't mind saying that with the Cobra, but, but I, I get it.

• 1:41:49Matt Farah?

It, it, it, it was, it was a headache to me, but whatever.

• 1:41:53Speaker 01

I'm surprised people ask, cause your car was like so extreme.

• 1:41:56Matt Farah?

  Was so obviously not.

• 1:41:57Speaker 01

Right, yeah, it seemed obvious, but whatever, people are people.

• 1:42:02Matt Farah?

Misfit Cyclone says, am I overreacting by saying the GT3 RS is overrated? I'm going to Cars and Coffee, I'm seeing a dozen of them there, I'm over the hype and blah, blah, blah. Do I have to experience the car to appreciate it?

• 1:42:19Matt Farah?

Yeah, I, I, I think, I think you have to be on a racetrack with one of those things. Otherwise, it makes no sense at all. It really makes no sense. I see them just driving around Beverly Hills. They, it makes no sense like that. Uh, they ride like shit. They don't have a trunk. They're annoying. But if you get one on a racetrack, they're fabulous. And, you know, as the, we learned when I went on the launch, the reason so many people have them out at their thermal, uh, their racetrack country clubs, is because to a lot of drivers, like full-on race cars with like a Motec and all that stuff, are actually really intimidating. And they wanna go on the track, like they wanna track their car,

• 1:43:05Matt Farah?

but they really want like the familiarity of it being like the car they drive on the street. You know, they know where stuff is, they know how to make it work. It, it feels like, you know, even if you get into a very well-engineered like LMP race car, like that was my comparison. It was like you get a GT3 RS for $400,000, or you get like this like Ligier LMP3 car that you could literally enter in Le Mans for like half that. But like, not everybody wants this like prototyp-y thing. A lot of people really do want just a really, really fast track-oriented version of the thing that they already have and are used to.

• 1:43:48Matt Farah?

And I get that. On a racetrack, a GT3 RS, for how extreme it looks, is incredibly approachable. Um, and it feels easy to work your way up to speed. So like, I get it. Uh, but yeah, I guess you do have to experience it on a track, cause they're fucking fun as hell on a track.

• 1:44:07Matt Farah?

Frozen dingleberry metallic. Have you guys seen Tedson Motors? They're essentially taking Gallardo's and giving them the Singer treatment. These are kind of interesting, although how awkward of a name is Tedson Motors?

• 1:44:22Speaker 01

It is. There's no, I went to their webpage and there's no pictures of the inside of the Gallardo.

• 1:44:28Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's a restyle.

• 1:44:34Matt Farah?

The front, they've sort of made it a little bit like that Countach that Lamborghini did, the modern Countach, the Aventador.

• 1:44:44Speaker 01

  With the little lights here?

• 1:44:45Matt Farah?

Yeah, a little bit like that, with those horizontal lights and I think the front mouth being very horizontal.

• 1:44:51Speaker 01

  They lured the rear fenders.

• 1:44:53Matt Farah?

Yeah. I'm sure we will see one at the Quail and...

• 1:44:59Speaker 01

  They also do Porsche stuff.

• 1:45:00Matt Farah?

I don't hate how it looks. I mean, I think it's... They haven't made it look super ugly. I mean, I think it's a nice look. Oh, they've done a thing like the Aventador on the side. You see that? Instead of having the perfectly vertical scoop there, they've made it like the Aventadors.

• 1:45:19Speaker 01

  That looks very good.

• 1:45:20Matt Farah?

It's kind of interesting. The name Tedson is... I'm out.

• 1:45:25Speaker 01

Sounds like Ted Danson started a car company.

• 1:45:27Matt Farah?

Yeah, I'm not telling someone I'm driving a Tedson. Sorry, it's not happening.

• 1:45:31Speaker 01

Yeah, that's very true. And also, and maybe there just aren't pictures up yet, but so much of what Singer does and so much of what got attention was the interior. Like seeing that woven leather in all these colors. And so for me, to most people that look quickly, they're just gonna... It looks enough like a Huracan that they're gonna go, "Oh, Huracan." And so unless the inside is this new, sorry, Gallardo, it's like this new bespoke amazing thing, then I don't think you'll grab people the way that they hope they will.

• 1:46:01Matt Farah?

Yeah, I mean, it's not ugly though.

• 1:46:04Speaker 01

  No, the styling is good.

• 1:46:05Matt Farah?

I think it's a generally, it's a very attractive... The direct rear isn't my favorite. The entire center of the rear, the painted part below the horizontal top deck, the painted part below that, but above the carbon diffuser, looks pulled off a front engine Aston Martin. Or the McLaren GT. Ah, that's it. The back end is McLaren GT. That's what it looks like.

• 1:46:36Matt Farah?

To me. Front three quarters, the best angle. That, there's your angle right there. Side profile, pretty good.

• 1:46:42Speaker 01

  Very good.

• 1:46:43Matt Farah?

Rear end, I'm not sold yet.

• 1:46:45Speaker 01

I wonder how much it costs also.

• 1:46:47Matt Farah?

Probably a million bucks, which would be crazy, wouldn't it?

• 1:46:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:46:50Matt Farah?

Yeah. Name, I mean, especially like, name is like a hard out there. No, thanks. No, thanks. Uh, Crab Hab is trying to explain slow car fast to somebody. The kid is enamored by LS power and I'm trying to sell him on the finer points of Miata's and BRZ's, etc. Any metaphors to help explain fast car, slow?

• 1:47:19Speaker 01

I mean, for me, it was something that had to be learned through experience.

• 1:47:22Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:47:23Speaker 01

Driving fast things and going, okay, fast isn't actually the greatest thing in the world. You, you get used to the nuances of driving. It's like, I don't know, just drinking energy drinks for a long time and then going, I'm just gonna sip tea and notice the flavors of others. That's not a great analogy, but.

• 1:47:37Matt Farah?

No, but like, they have to try it.

• 1:47:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:47:39Matt Farah?

I think, I think someone who's never tried a lightweight roadster probably doesn't really get it. But if they got to try it, they'd probably enjoy it.

• 1:47:47Speaker 01

I would also ask Crab Hab, has this person done autocross or track days? Have they done a lot of driving that frankly just has corners in it? Because if all they do is highway stuff, or you live in Texas, I understand how easy it would be to just go after horsepower and want louder, more power, because that's the only experience you can have. You know, you just want to build a bigger rocket ship.

• 1:48:07Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:48:11Matt Farah?

I like Silence of the Lambo's question, but I don't think we'd be like, I think the people that we'd put there like, aren't like famous people that anybody would know. I don't, I don't think, I don't think they're gonna like the answer.

• 1:48:25Matt Farah?

Why known as Big Brown Beamer? That's a, is that, that's a separate, we have multiple Primus references in one show, okay? Strangest place you've ever driven, I never thought I would drive here situation.

• 1:48:39Matt Farah?

  Uh, off-roading in Panama, maybe?

• 1:48:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:48:44Matt Farah?

The 911 Dakar in the Moroccan desert? That's probably a good one.

• 1:48:49Speaker 01

I, also Morocco, I remember I was riding in the back of our, uh, like, whatever car, like our crew car, and I looked behind me and we were being followed by our fixer in an Air QL911. And I was like sitting sideways and I just went, where the fuck am I? Like, we're driving into this market, it was so crazy.

• 1:49:06Matt Farah?

Uh, I, I drove a Sherp in a frozen lake.

• 1:49:09Speaker 01

  That's pretty good.

• 1:49:09Matt Farah?

  That was probably one, yeah.

• 1:49:11Speaker 01

  Iceland, off-roading in Iceland.

• 1:49:12Matt Farah?

Iceland, yeah. Uh, anti-silicon consciousness, that's a very good one. Used R1T quad motor prices are in the 40s with five years left on the battery warranty. Would you roll the dice? I wouldn't want a Rivian that doesn't have a bumper-to-bumper warranty, because that air, that suspension system they've got could be, uh, something, something.

• 1:49:39Matt Farah?

I, I wouldn't want an early Rivian without a full, forget the battery. The battery, okay, fine, but there's more to a car than a battery.

• 1:49:46Speaker 01

We've seen around this town a lot, lot of cars, luxury cars that have airbag suspension. The airbags collapse, the car never moves, because it's so expensive to fix it.

• 1:49:56Matt Farah?

Gin in Teconic State Parkway, do all modern 911s have power folding mirrors? No, it is an option. You may not be able to get them on like GT3 RSs, but, but, uh, pretty sure it's an option on all other regular Porsches. Great Gambalas of fire, that's pretty good, too. What is the most Ferrari Lamborghini? And what is the most Lamborghini Ferrari? That's pretty good. Forty years old, max. So, the Lamborghini Yalpa was designed to directly compete with the Ferrari 308, with the same transverse V8 engine, which was really just four cylinders cut off the V12.

• 1:50:41Matt Farah?

Uh, Targa roof, just like the 308. About the same size as the 308, actually, it's, it's a reasonably handsome car.

• 1:50:48Speaker 01

It is, it looks like a Pantera.

• 1:50:49Matt Farah?

Yeah, kind of, kind of, yeah. The interiors are not great in these, uh, but I always smile when I see one at a car show, and that is very rare, because they did not make a lot of these. I think that's the most Ferrari Lamborghini. The most Lamborghini Ferrari.

• 1:51:06Speaker 01

I think the Purosangue. Cause I think Lamborghini led the charge. But when you look at that car, it looks like two cars stacked on top of each other. It's it's super extroverted outside and the interior has wins and misses. And you can't like, it has all these problems. And to me, that is a very Lamborghini. It's a it's an exotic car owning experience. And the exterior of it is as almost as controversial as the. As it was.

• 1:51:35Matt Farah?

I was gonna say the most Lamborghini Ferrari, that's a very good one, is is the Enzo. Which looks.

• 1:51:44Speaker 01

Styling wise, yeah. It's one of the few square Ferraris, I would say, right? Yeah. Yeah, that's a good point.

• 1:51:51Matt Farah?

  Good question, though.

• 1:51:53Speaker 01

  Let me go back.

• 1:51:54Matt Farah?

Find it. I like the Yalpan yellow, too. That's a very good one. Okay, spin the black circle. If we were to marry each other. And have an adopted child, what two car girl, holy fuck. How many hypotheticals can we stack? Okay, if we.

• 1:52:12Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:52:12Matt Farah?

  Fell in love.

• 1:52:13Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:52:14Matt Farah?

First off, let's back it up. If we were both gay.

• 1:52:17Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:52:18Matt Farah?

  Or bi or something.

• 1:52:22Matt Farah?

And then also if we were not already married to other people. Okay, and then we would also fall in love.

• 1:52:28Speaker 01

We could be married and then fall in love and then divorce those people. If we want to add extra complications.

• 1:52:31Matt Farah?

Drama probably be great for the numbers.

• 1:52:34Speaker 01

  Great for the gilded.

• 1:52:35Matt Farah?

Great for the numbers. Okay, and then we'd have an adopted child.

• 1:52:39Speaker 01

We do get that paperwork done.

• 1:52:40Matt Farah?

  It's not even like.

• 1:52:42Speaker 01

That's why I love this question so much.

• 1:52:44Matt Farah?

DNA that's happening. It's like, we'd have to forget nature. We have to pure nurture. An adopted child.

• 1:52:53Matt Farah?

  Into having two cars.

• 1:52:55Speaker 01

  Yes. It adds criteria.

• 1:52:57Matt Farah?

What cars are they gonna have?

• 1:52:59Speaker 01

That's the funny thing is what cars? Are they saying what cars would we have?

• 1:53:03Matt Farah?

Would you and I or would the child have?

• 1:53:05Speaker 01

I read it as the child because they said they.

• 1:53:07Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:53:10Matt Farah?

If Matt and Zach, but Matt and Zach are also written.

• 1:53:12Speaker 01

Let's assume the cars are ours.

• 1:53:13Matt Farah?

Okay, fine. So what are you so? So, alright, so we have to.

• 1:53:17Speaker 01

We need something that can, we need something that can drive the kid around.

• 1:53:19Matt Farah?

  We're gay.

• 1:53:20Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:53:20Matt Farah?

Which obviously matters when choosing a car.

• 1:53:23Speaker 01

  Sure, definitely.

• 1:53:24Matt Farah?

I mean, people will say it. It does, so it must be true.

• 1:53:27Speaker 01

  We're gonna want comfy seats.

• 1:53:28Matt Farah?

Right. And we're gonna need at least, at least one Subaru.

• 1:53:32Speaker 01

  It's a butt sex joke.

• 1:53:34Matt Farah?

Okay, uh. Yeah, I think we probably would need a, I would need a Panamera. A Turbo S E Hybrid. Uh, with the, you know.

• 1:53:47Speaker 01

  With the suspension?

• 1:53:48Matt Farah?

  Active ride, yeah.

• 1:53:49Speaker 01

Okay, so that's what you, we drive this kid to school in.

• 1:53:51Matt Farah?

  Mobbing.

• 1:53:52Speaker 01

And then I would, uh, um, Ranger Raptor. I want to introduce the kid to going outside into the woods, but at speed.

• 1:54:00Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:54:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:54:02Matt Farah?

And you could, you could have.

• 1:54:03Speaker 01

No sports car, notice we just chose.

• 1:54:05Matt Farah?

You could have gay sex in either of those cars. Pretty easily.

• 1:54:08Speaker 01

  True.

• 1:54:09Matt Farah?

Pretty easily. Full done, yeah, pretty, I mean, pretty, in the bed, you know, whatever.

• 1:54:14Speaker 01

The Panamera might be a little challenging.

• 1:54:16Matt Farah?

Yeah. Uh, came in my asks. What a name to follow. Yeah. What a name. Which would you choose for long-term use, Integra Type S or CT4 Blackwing? Both great. Need, need. Eve, those cars in, in terms of like. I mean, long-term, like. You want a rear-wheel-drive car with, you know. Four hundred and seventy-five horsepower? Do you want a front-wheel-drive car? That's very, I mean, one is fifty percent more expensive than the other.

• 1:54:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:54:51Matt Farah?

The Blackwing is a nicer car.

• 1:54:53Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:54:53Matt Farah?

It's more powerful, it handles better, it's rear-wheel-drive, faster.

• 1:54:56Speaker 01

It might get better gas mileage or the same, because I remember the Type S did not get very good gas mileage.

• 1:55:01Matt Farah?

Bad gas mileage and a small tank, right?

• 1:55:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:55:04Matt Farah?

So, I don't know about long, if long-term use means keep it for a long time, or if means like lots of road trips and shit like that.

• 1:55:11Speaker 01

  I would go Blackwing.

• 1:55:12Matt Farah?

  I probably, yeah.

• 1:55:13Speaker 01

  They're both good cars.

• 1:55:15Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:55:15Speaker 01

But the Blackwing is an M3 that's made in the United States, or by an American company at least.

• 1:55:23Matt Farah?

  I'm gonna skip that one.

• 1:55:26Matt Farah?

Audemars Piguet or Audi Morris and Peugeot?

• 1:55:32Matt Farah?

By the way, everybody knows that when someone says I'm Audi 5000, that's A U D I 5000, right? Everyone knows that, right?

• 1:55:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:55:43Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:55:43Speaker 01

I mean, everyone our age does.

• 1:55:44Matt Farah?

  There's people I think that don't know that. That it's not O U T I E as opposed to A U D I.

• 1:55:49Speaker 01

No, we're using Audi, but I'm outta here.

• 1:55:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:55:51Speaker 01

  But yeah.

• 1:55:52Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:55:52Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:55:53Matt Farah?

Yeah. How much would minor damage on a Carfax impact your decision to keep a 997.2 Carrera long-term? Got a too-good-to-be-true deal on a car, and I can't tell from looking or driving it and found out two years later? Well, I mean, so there was damage in a Carfax. You can't tell from looking at it. You can't tell from driving it. The only person that gives a shit is you when you were buying it, and obviously that didn't stop you then, and you and the person you might sell it to. In between, it's just a car.

• 1:56:37Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:56:37Matt Farah?

No one's reading the Carfax. So, is the que- would it affect my decision? Like, this is like going on Maury. Like, if you had a car that you liked, and two years later, you found out that it-

• 1:56:55Speaker 01

  That you're not the father.

• 1:56:55Matt Farah?

That you're not the father. Are you gonna sell this car? Like, you found out about this damage, you're like, oh my god, I have to get rid of it now. Like, if you already have it and like it, it wouldn't impact your decision to sell it at all. Fucking keep it. Who gives a shit?

• 1:57:11Speaker 01

And I think when you go to sell it, then you just, the best thing to do is be honest about it, not, you know, because it sounds like it's in the Carfax and they didn't notice.

• 1:57:20Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:57:21Speaker 01

So, the next buyer might notice, and I don't know, hopefully it's not a big deal and it's not structural, and you go, look, you can't feel it. I've had it to these shops, they can't notice. The alignment's all fine.

• 1:57:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:57:31Speaker 01

And you might not care, and the next buyer might not care.

• 1:57:34Matt Farah?

The same thing, this same shit with Eric's M3 that's ending, right, as people are probably listening to this on Bring a Trailer. Eric's the third owner of that car. The second owner was Russell, who also works here. Russell bought it CPO from a dealer. The first owner was in a minor accident and the bumper was sprayed or replaced and and painted in the Carfax. Would you ever fucking go look at the car? Would you ever know? Like, no, no one would know. They replaced the bumper and they painted it to match and and it's been it's been so long since then. So like this this car will still bring all of the money because it looks fabulous. It's documented.

• 1:58:17Matt Farah?

We've got paint meter readings showing that it was done to factory spec, like whatever, like what else can you do?

• 1:58:24Speaker 01

Yeah, there's some people that want the car to be a virgin and look, you bought the car with despite this flaw. Someone else who's a smart shopper and you got a good deal, so they might get a slightly good deal.

• 1:58:36Matt Farah?

Got a too good to be true deal.

• 1:58:38Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:58:38Matt Farah?

Means that like you got a discount on the car. For whatever reason, now you can say you got it for a reason because it was hit.

• 1:58:47Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:58:48Matt Farah?

So if someone else is going to end up getting a little discount because it's it's money in, money out, whatever. If you got a too good to be true deal on a car that had some damage, who fucking cares? Keep it. And when you, you know, you might not get all that money back on the other end, but like, I think you'll be fine.

• 1:59:06Speaker 01

  This is the last one.

• 1:59:07Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:59:08Speaker 01

We can save the lower one.

• 1:59:09Matt Farah?

All right. Toby Keith Urban. That's a good contraction. There we go. Uh, stepping into the watch world, never realized all of the uber popular watches were so small. Uh, are there certain brands, models that fit better for big guys? Of course there are. I'm six foot five and a forty eight millimeter fossil I've had since high school looks correct on my wrist. Boy, do I have luck for you, buddy. Um, where were you in two thousand and sixteen when huge watches were all the fucking rage? Uh, no worries. Actually, right now, Toby Keith Urban is the absolute perfect, never been a better time for you to buy a watch secondhand.

• 1:59:50Matt Farah?

Big faces are minimum cool right now, but they will always come back. Um, you need to be shopping for Panerai's. Panerai luminors, Panama Panerai radio mirrors. Uh, they have um, a variety of watches that are forty five millimeter and up. Uh, and that is your, that is your big wristed watch right there. A Panerai luminor. Yeah, there it is.

• 2:00:17Speaker 01

It's also a good time to get a watch if you're getting into them. Because the watch index is at an all time low.

• 2:00:23Matt Farah?

  The watch index is down.

• 2:00:24Speaker 01

  Post pandemic.

• 2:00:25Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's back to where it, you know, back to where it, where it, if you, if you spread out the line to max. Does it have max? So if you ignore the pandemic and just draw a line from 2017 to now, it's pretty much a straight line. But because of the pandemic, it's, everything seems down.

• 2:00:44Speaker 01

Yeah, so I would say it's a great time to be a new shopper to watches, right? For that reason, yeah.

• 2:00:49Matt Farah?

Exactly. And so, so here's where you need to be looking at, uh, Breitling's. Breitling has a lot of big face offerings, Navitimers, uh, and Super Oceans and Super Marines. You want to be looking at Panerai's, um, you want to be looking at Omega Planet Oceans. Those are 45 millimeter. Um, yeah, those, that's where, that's where you live, my friend. Um, and you will find happiness there, I assure you. Um, that's our show for today. Uh, Zach, do you think that our shows from Texas are going to be the next shows that we air? We're gonna have two shows next week from Texas? Well. They recorded them in Texas?

• 2:01:33Speaker 01

We have a show we're, we're recording on Wednesday and that will air Tuesday. And then the first show we record in Texas will air the following, the next Thursday.

• 2:01:41Matt Farah?

  Right, okay.

• 2:01:42Speaker 01

  So, yeah.

• 2:01:42Matt Farah?

All right. So, everybody will hear, uh, the shows from Texas eventually.

• 2:01:47Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 2:01:48Matt Farah?

Provided they're good. Yeah, they will be good. Um, I, we probably will not be able to use Christian's stuff though, unfortunately.

• 2:01:57Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 2:01:57Matt Farah?

I, I'm having dinner with him tonight and we will discuss, but I think probably not, even though I think we could probably get away with it. I just wouldn't want to make his life harder.

• 2:02:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, I don't.

• 2:02:09Matt Farah?

But, um, yeah, there are a few, just a few, um, of the, uh, green Notice Canyons left. The Black Pearl, uh, the Black Pearl, I'll tell you what the last holdup was. We are doing the Oyster bracelet on the last pearl because oysters and pearls go together as opposed to the Jubilee bracelet we've done on all the other ones. So we'll have a unique bracelet for that one. Um, almost everybody who's getting one of those has another canyon also, I assume. So, uh, they can interchange them. So that's going on, um, and, uh, yeah. Everything else is, uh, coming up fucking roses. Mm-hmm. Yeah. We'll see you guys in Texas if you're coming out to see us.

• 2:02:52Matt Farah?

Um, it should be a great time and, uh, thanks to our patrons for such great questions. If you want to get in the game, patreon.com slash the smoke and tire podcast. And we will see you on Wednesday with another episode.
