Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by

One pound is like the sweet spot for a lobster, and generally, when they get bigger, they taste worse.

• 1:26David Imel?

  Mine's 45.

• 1:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Is what I've...

• 1:31Andrew Manganelli?

David's surf and turf is the 45-pound lobster and like the three-ounce filet, or like the one-ounce A5 Wagyu, like on the side, basically buttered on top.

• 1:40Speaker 03

It's like a giant piece of lobster, and then just like one IKEA meatball.

• 1:51Speaker 01

Yo, what is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of The Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts, I'm Marquez.

• 1:57Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:57Speaker 01

And I'm David. And this week, we've got Pixel 10 leaks. I hesitate to use the word leaks, but I'll throw it in there. Also, CMF Watch 3 Pro, the Essential comeback, and also something going on in Google Tasks and Keep, but you know, they just...

• 2:15David Imel?

  I don't.

• 2:16Speaker 01

They're just always doing stuff, aren't they? But first, I actually, I have an update on the FBI story. You guys remember the FBI story with the Escobar phone?

• 2:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 2:26Speaker 01

I saw an article pop up yesterday that had a conclusion, I think, to the story. So the story goes that I did this video on the Escobar fold. They sent it out to influencers. They didn't send out to people who actually bought it. And so they got a whole bunch of views and impressions and people clicking on their website and trying to buy it and not sending the phone to them. I did this little expose video. And a couple of months later, the FBI literally shows up to the studio and goes, hey, can we talk about that? And I obliged and they actually took my Escobar phone as evidence. And they said, well, we'll get back to this later. Don't talk about this, but someday this will all be over. And then I didn't hear from them for years.

• 3:09Speaker 01

And then a couple of months ago, or a couple of years, months ago, we did the FBI video.

• 3:13David Imel?

  Maybe like a year ago?

• 3:14Speaker 01

Yeah, we reached back out to them and we were like, hey, how's that case gone? Is it cool if we talk about it? And they were actually cool with us talking about it. I made the video explaining it. Um, the final update is that, uh, the guy behind it all, Olaf, is, uh, is pleading guilty. And faces, uh, hundreds of, I think millions of dollars in fines and also up to 20 plus years in federal prison for each count of fraud. So good, good news is that he won't be doing this again. He won't be scamming people again. But yeah, pretty, pretty crazy story that that arc all wrapped up with five years later.

• 3:51David Imel?

This is one of those things where it was so ridiculous when it happened that it was unbelievable that anyone could think that it was real, right? Cause they were selling basically a Galaxy Fold, the original Galaxy Fold, which was like a $2,000 phone.

• 4:02Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 4:03David Imel?

They were selling quote unquote for $400.

• 4:06Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 4:06David Imel?

And they had all this insane promotional material with like,

• 4:09Speaker 01

  With literal crime.

• 4:11David Imel?

Just, it was guns and like naked people and crime. And it was just, and it was so, it was like a meme of itself.

• 4:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:19David Imel?

And it seemed like they were self-aware enough to know it was ridiculous, but yet they were still actually scamming people.

• 4:25Speaker 01

Yeah, the Escobar name is not exactly known for clean, uh, yeah.

• 4:31Speaker 01

It's obviously not good and, and you know, I thought the video is like part entertainment, part obvious PSA, but yeah, people did spend the money. Apparently he owed something like $300,000 of money to people who bought the phones and didn't get them.

• 4:44Andrew Manganelli?

He was wired more than $307,000 between December 2019 and June 2020.

• 4:49David Imel?

That's actually not that much money for

• 4:51Speaker 01

  It's not that much.

• 4:51David Imel?

For doing something so stupid like this, like

• 4:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:55Andrew Manganelli?

I, uh, to go on your point, I almost think part of how absurd it was, was part of the reason some people got scammed because they saw like, oh, we know this is a Samsung fold that costs $2,000. Maybe he's just selling refurbished ones for $500, but like, I'm actually getting this cheaper and we'll just take the skin off. And then they think they get the leg up and then, that's like the only way I can comprehend him getting sent that

• 5:20David Imel?

much money. I think a lot of people were like, might as well try.

• 5:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:24David Imel?

That was a thing that definitely probably happened.

• 5:26Speaker 01

The price was low enough that people had that much money to throw away of just a flyer of like, hey, if I get the phone,

• 5:31David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:32Speaker 01

  It's a $2,000 fold.

• 5:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:34Speaker 01

And then they didn't get it.

• 5:35David Imel?

I mean, the amount of people that are buying like the Freedom Phone or like signing up for Trump Mobile just because they want to make the content about it. I feel like there were a decent amount of people that were doing that too.

• 5:44Speaker 01

That's a very good point, sir.

• 5:45David Imel?

You know what I mean? Like they want it, they're probably a bunch of YouTubers that were like, I get to make a video about this, even if I don't get the device, at least I can make a video about how I got scammed.

• 5:54Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 5:55David Imel?

  So.

• 5:56Speaker 01

  That's true. Dang.

• 5:57David Imel?

Easy way to make money, but it was 300K really worth the rest of your life in prison and millions of dollars in fines? I don't think so.

• 6:03Speaker 01

  Not ideal.

• 6:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:04Speaker 01

So that's the update. There you have it.

• 6:07David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:07Speaker 01

Maybe the other FBI story will be told someday here.

• 6:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:10Speaker 01

But that's the one that I have told. Uh, moving on. Okay. The story we have here is, uh, Apple Care One is introducing a new $20 a month subscription plan.

• 6:19David Imel?

Yeah. Uh, Apple is effectively trying to get you to buy insurance, but for more than just like your phone or laptop.

• 6:28Speaker 01

  For multiple things.

• 6:29David Imel?

Yeah. So usually when you buy a new device from Apple, you get to sign up for Apple Care Plus, I think it's called. And, and that's, you can sign up for that within 60 days of purchasing the device. And that gives you like a couple of years of, uh, protection for accidental damage. And then you can add on like threat, theft protection, all this stuff. It's very good. Obviously a lot of people get Apple Care because it's like one of the best sort of insurance policies there is. Now they have been making so much money on insurance policies that they want to make even more money on insurance policies. So they just introduced this new plan called Apple Care One, which is a new $20 a month subscription plan from Apple, which is a lot of money considering they have a lot of subscription services at this point.

• 7:11David Imel?

But this plan covers up to three products and you can add additional products for $6 extra per month. You get the same coverage you get with Apple Care Plus, unlimited repairs for accidental damage, 24/7 support, but also you can add products you bought up to four years ago versus the normal 60-day window. So I think that this is sort of gonna be like, the target of this is families, is what I'm sort of seeing here.

• 7:37Andrew Manganelli?

Do you think that's only gonna be in the beginning when they launch this, the four-year prior one? Cause like, if this stays alive for three years and there's Apple Care One and I break my phone, like, I can, I can cover things that were broken way after the 90-day limit?

• 7:53David Imel?

I assume so. I think it'll keep going.

• 7:55Andrew Manganelli?

You think forever you will be able to protect something that's four years old?

• 7:59David Imel?

  Yes.

• 8:00Speaker 03

You're talking about with Apple Care?

• 8:01Andrew Manganelli?

Like, like if I, if I buy my phone right now and in one year it breaks, so I buy Apple Care One because I can cover something that's up to four years old?

• 8:10David Imel?

  Oh, no, okay.

• 8:11Andrew Manganelli?

So I think the promotional of the beginning.

• 8:12David Imel?

There is a, there's a thing where they will run diagnostics on your device that you add to the plan to make sure it's like in good health and then also has to-

• 8:21Andrew Manganelli?

  When you add it, okay.

• 8:22David Imel?

Yeah, and it also has to be in good condition.

• 8:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 8:25Speaker 04

Yeah, Andrew, you can't do insurance fraud.

• 8:26David Imel?

  Yeah, that's called fraud.

• 8:27Andrew Manganelli?

And I'm sure a lot of people will do it and go hang out with Olaf.

• 8:32David Imel?

Yeah, I would like to do medical insurance fraud, but that's a whole nother thing.

• 8:36Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, I have a question about this.

• 8:37David Imel?

  Yes.

• 8:38Andrew Manganelli?

So you can add three devices, just glossing over that. You can add three devices, right?

• 8:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:42Andrew Manganelli?

So my question is, right now, I'm paying basically $40 a month for all of my families, like iPhones or Apple Care, $99, $99, you know, can I do three iPhones?

• 8:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:54Andrew Manganelli?

  For 20 bucks?

• 8:55David Imel?

Yeah. So actually, you should get on this.

• 8:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, man, I'm in.

• 8:58David Imel?

  You're gonna save money.

• 8:59Andrew Manganelli?

Well, you did save families. There's something that says this can be for more than one specific person?

• 9:03David Imel?

  I believe so.

• 9:04Andrew Manganelli?

I guess that would be a big difference on, can we just like split this between, or just like one person have to be the owner of all of the devices?

• 9:12Speaker 04

Or would it have to like all be attached to someone's Apple ID or something, you know?

• 9:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 9:17Speaker 04

Cause if it's like my AirPods, my phone, my computer, then I get it, but if I could do like my phone, my sister's phone, my mom's phone, that would be ideal.

• 9:26Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, so how much, you said $99 a month for Apple Care?

• 9:29Speaker 04

  Yeah, it's $99 a month.

• 9:30Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, that's more expensive than I thought.

• 9:34Speaker 04

Yeah, because I had just had to do this this past Saturday because Jess shattered her phone. So we had to go to the Apple Store in Williamsburg and they like, there was someone across from me who didn't have Apple Care. And they were like, oh yeah, for you, it'll be like, I think it was like 180 bucks or something like that. It was like 300 bucks to like fix the back of the of the phone. And for us, it was like 29 bucks. And I was like, is this worth it? It feels like it right now, but I don't know. If if it's the back screen or the back glass and the metal is not dented. I believe it was $29 to replace just the back glass. But had the metal been dented or they had to like give us a different phone or something, then it would have been like 99.

• 10:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, my God.

• 10:16Speaker 04

And then it just go, there's like multiple tiers for it. Our repair was only $29.

• 10:21Speaker 03

This has not been my experience with Apple Care at all.

• 10:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 10:24Speaker 03

Yeah. First of all, I just checked, I pay $7.99 for Apple Care.

• 10:27Speaker 04

Wait, why do you have Apple?

• 10:31Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, actually, why don't, yeah, no.

• 10:33Speaker 04

Why do you have Apple Care?

• 10:34Speaker 03

That's how I kept this phone alive. Because it's like, oh no, like a part broke, let me just go spend $10 and get it replaced in two hours. It actually, this is.

• 10:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 10:45David Imel?

It's the life support of that phone.

• 10:46Speaker 03

Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Really on life support on the 12 mini. And I don't think I've ever paid more than $20 and I've replaced like literally every single part on this phone.

• 10:55Andrew Manganelli?

  This, oh, the screen too?

• 10:56Speaker 03

Both this front, no, I haven't replaced the front screen. That's that's the only original part on the phone.

• 11:01Andrew Manganelli?

Ellis, did you buy Apple Care One and two more iPhone 12 minis? And just literally use it.

• 11:05Speaker 03

  Let it ride, baby.

• 11:07David Imel?

Yeah, the Newsroom post does not say anything about family plans. But Apple One, which has all the services that, you know, like the Fitness Plus and TV Plus, that is shared with your family plan. So, well, Apple One Ultimate or whatever it is, it's not called that, something different. But either way, um, yeah, I assume you could probably do it for your family. And this is probably just a way for people to, you know, ensure their stuff for their family.

• 11:31Speaker 01

Yeah, this is all part of Apple slowly just becoming more and more of a services company.

• 11:36David Imel?

  Oh, 100%.

• 11:36Speaker 01

They have so many services. And obviously, they've they've made a good amount of hardware and they sell a lot of that stuff too. But the way they're growing as a company is by offering more and more monthly subscription services.

• 11:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:50Speaker 01

  This is another one.

• 11:50David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:51Speaker 01

  There will be more.

• 11:52David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:52Andrew Manganelli?

How long until it's the phone?

• 11:55David Imel?

The phones as a service. I. I mean, it already kinda is.

• 11:58Andrew Manganelli?

Ellis basically is doing it right.

• 11:59David Imel?

It already is. You you pay monthly phone service to be able to like use the wireless data.

• 12:04Speaker 04

Well, I mean, like to buy the phone. Like, oh, if you give us $20 a month, when the new iPhone comes out, you'll just get a new iPhone. Just come in.

• 12:09Andrew Manganelli?

  I feel like everyone.

• 12:10David Imel?

  And T-Mobile does that, right?

• 12:12Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, didn't Google try that and then cancel it before you got the upgrade?

• 12:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 12:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, yeah. Yeah, remember?

• 12:18David Imel?

I remember that story. But yeah, they're that's basically.

• 12:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Carrier service.

• 12:23David Imel?

Carrier's, yeah, yeah. I could definitely see Apple doing that. So I mean, they already do financing. So is that that different?

• 12:29Speaker 04

  Yeah, that's true.

• 12:30David Imel?

You know, Klarna. All right. I need someone to explain this Google Tasks, Google Keep, Google Reminders.

• 12:37Speaker 04

  So.

• 12:38David Imel?

  Implosion.

• 12:39Speaker 04

Remember how we spent all that time getting Andrew to join Google Tasks? We did a whole episode about it.

• 12:45David Imel?

  Yes, we did.

• 12:45Speaker 04

He finally got on Google Tasks and now he uses Google Tasks every day.

• 12:48David Imel?

  Also on Google Tasks now.

• 12:49Andrew Manganelli?

That's why I'm so scared of this headline. If I just see Google Tasks or Keep, I'm like, one's dying.

• 12:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 12:54Speaker 04

Doing that was a good call because it seems like they're going all in on Google Tasks, basically. So this news was already announced, but now I think they're announcing that it's gonna be happening, something like that, which is that when you set a reminder in Google Keep, it will now show up as a Google Task and it'll have a little like note next to it that'll be like, this is from Keep or whatever. So if you have like a recurring grocery list or something,

• 13:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, okay.

• 13:21Speaker 04

I'm assuming that will show. Yeah, I'm guessing that would show up as a Google Task, but saying from Keep, like it has a little badge next to it.

• 13:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Is is this?

• 13:30Speaker 03

  Dude, this is some.

• 13:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Cross.

• 13:31Speaker 03

This is 10x product management right here. I just wanna say, Google PMs, you're crushing it, folks.

• 13:38Andrew Manganelli?

Does this work the other way around where like if I say go grocery shopping recurring on a task and I can link a Keep grocery list to it?

• 13:46Speaker 03

If you crosslink it with your Google Calendar and then sync it with a Gmail reminder, which. You're joking.

• 13:53David Imel?

  And it's also.

• 13:54Speaker 04

They did add Google Tasks to Google Calendar and Google Tasks.

• 13:57David Imel?

  In Gmail.

• 13:58Speaker 04

It's own thing in Google Calendar now. Like, it's basically the whole app. You can like tab over and you just have your Google Tasks there. Um, to answer your question, unclear. That would be cool. Like, what I want is to be able to attach a note to a Google Task.

• 14:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 14:11Speaker 04

Like, that would be cool. Uh, this seems to be so far just in, in the reverse. So you can like, just set a reminder in Google Keep and then it'll just pop up like, don't forget about this thing you have in Google Task.

• 14:23David Imel?

Okay, I want to propose something. So millions of years ago, our brains developed this thing called memory.

• 14:28Speaker 04

  Mm-hmm.

• 14:28David Imel?

  And we can.

• 14:29Speaker 04

  You mean RAM?

• 14:30David Imel?

Yeah, and we can, um, remember to do things. Hmm, yeah, but that's notoriously really buggy. Well, sure. Yeah. But life is buggy, you know what I'm saying?

• 14:40Speaker 04

David, you once forgot to pick up Ellis on your way to the office.

• 14:45David Imel?

  I was.

• 14:46Speaker 03

Yeah, also, we had been texting. I said, "See you at 10," and in that 10, you forgot.

• 14:53David Imel?

What, so you, see? Not a lot. Come on. What do you want for me, man? You know, you can't Google Keep and Drive. Hey. And, you know, we wouldn't have had that fun story if I didn't forget to pick them up. So life would not be vibrant if everything went as planned.

• 15:10Speaker 03

So Google Keep does not sync with Google Drive, but Google Drive can sync with Google Tap and Keep. Someone else take this.

• 15:20Andrew Manganelli?

That's already. This will be fun later when we talk about nothing in a central also.

• 15:23David Imel?

Take the wheel. Take the wheel. Uh, yeah, the new capability will make Google Tasks the single solution for managing your to-dos across workspace.

• 15:30Speaker 04

It's just like another nail in the coffin to what David is always talking about, how anytime someone remembers that Google Keep exists, it's like people get nervous.

• 15:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Can I ask a question?

• 15:38David Imel?

  What?

• 15:39Andrew Manganelli?

Who sets reminders in Google Keep?

• 15:42Speaker 04

  I set reminders.

• 15:42David Imel?

Apparently, you can. Isn't that the entire point of tasks? They're even geo-fenced, right? Or geo-tagged? So you can be like, "When I get home, remind me to blank."

• 15:53Andrew Manganelli?

  In.

• 15:54David Imel?

  In Keep?

• 15:54Speaker 04

  I don't know if that's in Keep.

• 15:56David Imel?

  Was that not in Keep?

• 15:56Speaker 04

That might have been in Google Assistant Tasks, which was folded into Google Tasks.

• 16:00David Imel?

Guys. Use your brains. I'm telling you, it is so much simpler. No, it's not. It's horrible.

• 16:08Speaker 04

  Google Assistant Reminders, sorry.

• 16:10Andrew Manganelli?

Open a note, access the "Remind Me" feature, look for the bell icon at the top of the note. I do know that bell icon.

• 16:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 16:17Andrew Manganelli?

And choose a time and location.

• 16:18David Imel?

  Yeah, location, yeah.

• 16:20Speaker 05

  Huh.

• 16:20Speaker 03

  Oh, nice.

• 16:21Andrew Manganelli?

I never knew you could do that.

• 16:22Speaker 01

Also with the assistant. So you could talk to like your Google Home and ask it to remind you to do something when you get to work. And you need to get to work and it would like light up the assistant.

• 16:30Speaker 03

I didn't realize that was through Keep though. Yeah, I thought it was through Tap.

• 16:33Andrew Manganelli?

Cause I do it in my car all the time.

• 16:34Speaker 01

I guess I never had to interface with the Keep behind that reminder, but it was going through Keep technically. Yeah.

• 16:44Andrew Manganelli?

Can I, or does anyone else have anything to say with that? Cause I have a random Google gripe that I'd like to just bring up.

• 16:50Speaker 01

  We might as well just.

• 16:51Speaker 03

I just want to plea to not kill Google Keep.

• 16:54Speaker 01

Don't even, don't even say it, Adam.

• 16:57Speaker 03

  Please.

• 16:58Speaker 01

  You're willing.

• 16:58Andrew Manganelli?

The day we read that during trivia waiting, it's a day the tear runs down from Adam's face.

• 17:03Speaker 01

  I feel like this is.

• 17:04Speaker 03

I want to say, kill Google Keep. I cannot stand that.

• 17:07Speaker 01

This is Google just taking the tarp and like slowly covering Google Keep.

• 17:10Andrew Manganelli?

  The pillow over the.

• 17:12Speaker 01

One day I'm gonna get an email in the middle of the pod from Megan Fox and it's gonna say some sad news about Google Keep. That's actually.

• 17:18Andrew Manganelli?

  I swear.

• 17:19Speaker 01

  That's gonna happen.

• 17:21Andrew Manganelli?

Here's my gripe right now. In Google Drive or Google Docs, I guess.

• 17:25Speaker 01

  See, that's already.

• 17:26Andrew Manganelli?

Insert an image button. The dropdown, the first option always used to be upload from computer because I put photos in our Google, our outlines for the pod. Every single, I know you guys have a different gripe with pictures in Google.

• 17:41Speaker 01

I usually just drag and drop.

• 17:43Andrew Manganelli?

Now the top one is generate an image and we've done 300 episodes of this. So my brain just automatically clicks the button and clicks the first one. And every time I then have to click out of generate an image to just put a stupid picture of like a watch in this.

• 17:58Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:59Andrew Manganelli?

  It drives me insane.

• 18:00Speaker 03

Why would they do that? In what, in what world is an image generated by whatever model they're using for that right now? Better than the image that you know is on your computer?

• 18:12Speaker 01

This is just Google spamming, like getting more users of the service so they can say they have more people using it.

• 18:16Speaker 03

Oh my God, you're so right.

• 18:18Andrew Manganelli?

Accidentally clicked it. They're like, count that.

• 18:19Speaker 01

Yeah, a hundred percent. Yeah. And then on the next Google I O keynote, they'll be like, users have been loving.

• 18:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 18:25Speaker 01

Generating images. Generating millions of images.

• 18:29Speaker 03

And then their stock goes up.

• 18:30Speaker 01

  They can't stop generating images.

• 18:32Speaker 03

Andrew Manganelli. Our top user. Cannot stop because like keep hitting it by accident.

• 18:38Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, you could probably count how many times I did it. There's, I think I have like eight pictures in this doc. So that's.

• 18:42Speaker 01

Is that why you have all these generated images?

• 18:44Andrew Manganelli?

  These are not generated.

• 18:47Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 18:47Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 18:48Andrew Manganelli?

All right. We have one more thing, and this is a question I have for Adam.

• 18:52Speaker 04

  I have an answer.

• 18:52Andrew Manganelli?

I have been nonstop seeing that the new Donkey Kong game is like 10 out of 10 incredible. Like, the new Donkey Kong on Switch.

• 19:02Speaker 04

  Bonanza.

• 19:02Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, Donkey Kong Bonanza is like absolutely killing it in game. Yeah, you have it.

• 19:09Speaker 04

  Yeah, it's awesome.

• 19:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Is there?

• 19:11Speaker 04

This game, because it's like, all right, so I used to love these games in, I don't even know what year, 97, something like that. Crash Bandicoot Spyro.

• 19:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Those are PlayStation.

• 19:24Speaker 04

PlayStation games, not Nintendo, PlayStation games, but like you're this little character that just runs around doing a bunch of levels and you're like doing things as you go, collecting gems, you know, the usual. They did that with Donkey Kong, but as if it's like a modern game in 2025. So like the levels themselves are massive and because it's Donkey Kong, you can just destroy the entire level. Like my first night playing this game, I kind of just wanted to, I wasn't sure if I wanted to like dive deep into it, you know, it was like late. I'm like, let me just play like five or 10 minutes. So I just destroyed the whole level for five minutes and it was like kind of relaxing to just, it's like a, when you go to like a break room or something like that.

• 20:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Vacuuming.

• 20:01Speaker 04

  Like.

• 20:04Andrew Manganelli?

Like you have to get every single piece.

• 20:06Speaker 04

  Oh, yes.

• 20:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 20:07Speaker 03

  You mean a rage room?

• 20:08Speaker 04

  Is that what they're called?

• 20:09Speaker 03

A break room is where you have a pot of coffee with.

• 20:12Andrew Manganelli?

  I was.

• 20:13Speaker 04

Yeah, it's a rage room. Like when you go with a bat and just destroy a bunch of glass things, it has that same kind of like vibe for most of, like the whole level. So you could just walk around destroying things and that's it. And you don't have to play the game at all. So that's like what I did for like the first half hour of me playing. I was just walking around destroying every corner rock. It was awesome.

• 20:35David Imel?

I've only played this game for like 20 minutes, but I kept getting myself stuck because I was just like burrowing into the ground and then I couldn't figure out how to get out.

• 20:43Speaker 04

Yeah, it took me like a good amount of time to realize that he could just climb.

• 20:47David Imel?

I think you guys are just playing Minecraft. Yeah, it's sort of like Minecraft that you can only destroy things, not build things.

• 20:55Andrew Manganelli?

Oh my God, if they DLC'd and then Donkey Kong could start building things, that would be crazy.

• 20:59David Imel?

Also, what platform is this on, Adam?

• 21:01Speaker 04

This is a Nintendo Switch 2 game.

• 21:04David Imel?

  That's right.

• 21:06Speaker 03

You know how good this game is? Last week, I was like, Adam, do you want to go? Do you and your fiancee want to go get dinner with me tonight? And Adam goes, no, I'm gonna play Donkey Kong.

• 21:15Speaker 04

  I mean.

• 21:15Andrew Manganelli?

Which is different from the usual response.

• 21:17Speaker 04

  That's just nah.

• 21:18David Imel?

That's what I was gonna say. That's not that different.

• 21:22Speaker 03

But this time I had a reason. I was working, guys. I knew that I had to talk about.

• 21:27Andrew Manganelli?

Gotta turn out a friend on IGN.

• 21:28Speaker 04

The game is actually like really good. So I think IGN compared it to Zelda.

• 21:34Andrew Manganelli?

Breath of the Wild and Odyssey.

• 21:37Speaker 04

  And Odyssey.

• 21:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Which is a wild.

• 21:39David Imel?

It is made by the Super Mario Odyssey team.

• 21:41Speaker 04

And I could see the comparison to Zelda, just because there are puzzles and things that you have to do. And it's not overtly clear. Like you just will be going through the level. You stumble upon this thing. And if you, there's a thing you could do where you like clap and see all around you. And you could see a banana and be like, oh, I gotta get the banana. And every time you get a banana, it goes, oh, banana. And it's awesome. But.

• 22:03David Imel?

  I love Japan. I do.

• 22:10David Imel?

After a long run, I'm like, oh, banana.

• 22:14Speaker 03

The game is just, it's just fun.

• 22:15David Imel?

Yeah, I need to play. I'm gonna play it on the plane today. It's gonna be fun.

• 22:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:19Andrew Manganelli?

Because I feel like you might low key like this.

• 22:21David Imel?

Yeah, just walking around bashing things.

• 22:22Andrew Manganelli?

Well, there's like a point to it, but in the process, you get to destroy everything.

• 22:26David Imel?

  There's like a point.

• 22:27Speaker 04

Yeah, you can play the level if you want. Like, that's what I started doing yesterday and I've gotten already fairly far. I don't know how long the game is, so I don't know.

• 22:35Andrew Manganelli?

  I heard it's not.

• 22:36Speaker 04

  But.

• 22:36Andrew Manganelli?

Someone said it's like 20 hours to beat it, but multiple people are like 50 or 60 hours into it. Still just like exploring.

• 22:44David Imel?

  Stuff everywhere.

• 22:45Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, because the comparison.

• 22:46David Imel?

I don't have that kind of time, guys.

• 22:47Andrew Manganelli?

Bro, you're about to fly to China. That's literally that's.

• 22:50Speaker 03

You can beat the game on the way.

• 22:52David Imel?

That's fair. You know how many hours I have in Dota 2?

• 22:55Speaker 03

  Can I guess?

• 22:56David Imel?

  You should guess.

• 22:57Speaker 03

How long have you been playing this game?

• 22:59David Imel?

  Since 2011.

• 23:00Speaker 03

  Since 2011, okay.

• 23:02Andrew Manganelli?

Is this a, were you paying attention? Because he said it out loud right before we started.

• 23:06David Imel?

I do know, I do remember what you said.

• 23:08Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 23:08Speaker 03

  20,000.

• 23:10David Imel?

  20,000 what?

• 23:11Speaker 04

  Hours.

• 23:12David Imel?

  That's an hours?

• 23:13Speaker 04

  20,000?

• 23:14David Imel?

  Yeah. Nah, nah, nah.

• 23:15Speaker 04

I mean, now my number is gonna seem low as hell.

• 23:17David Imel?

Can I say what I think it is? Because I think I remember it.

• 23:19Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 23:20David Imel?

  Was it 4,100 and?

• 23:23David Imel?

And sixty-eight hours? It was four thousand, six hundred and twenty. Hours.

• 23:30Andrew Manganelli?

  It's a lot of hours.

• 23:30David Imel?

That's not a lot. You're not even an expert yet. I'm still the second to lowest. You gotta put in your ten thousand hours. Yeah, ten thousand hours, babe. That's like, that's how you get good at the thing. That's true. Ten thousand hours. Yeah. So you're like, kind of a rookie still. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If I put that into like, learning piano or something, though, um... Do you want to know how many days that is? Ellis just did the math. Okay, but...

• 23:50Speaker 03

  You said forty-six, twenty?

• 23:51David Imel?

Yeah, but also, think about this. You're only awake for like, twelve, like, fourteen or sixteen hours. Stop letting your facts get in the way of this joke. No, so double that.

• 24:00Speaker 03

  No, it's sad enough.

• 24:02David Imel?

  It's a hundred and ninety-two days.

• 24:03Andrew Manganelli?

  You haven't seen it.

• 24:04David Imel?

So it's basically twice that. It's, it's over a year, effectively, of waking hours that I've played Dota. Damn.

• 24:10Andrew Manganelli?

RuneScape people, that's basically getting out of the tutorial.

• 24:14David Imel?

This is only since twenty-eleven, so in the last fifteen years...

• 24:18Andrew Manganelli?

  That's fourteen years.

• 24:19David Imel?

That's, in the last fourteen years, you've spent one entire year playing this game. That's so much. That's only one, that's only one fourteen. That's like, if you, you just had fifteen years of time and you just sat still for one whole year and just played the game. That's so much. Wow.

• 24:38Andrew Manganelli?

One fourteenth of your day, that's what, two hours a day?

• 24:41David Imel?

  Every day.

• 24:42Andrew Manganelli?

  That's not that crazy.

• 24:43David Imel?

  That's a lot. Two hours?

• 24:44Andrew Manganelli?

Two hours a day, but think about one day being six hours. You've never done a six-hour...

• 24:49David Imel?

I've literally never done a six-hour game session. Oh, man.

• 24:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Neither have I.

• 24:54David Imel?

  There were periods... I'm just...

• 24:58Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, we should just go to trivia.

• 25:00David Imel?

This is a great time to move on. The thing about this conversation is, half the people are like, rookie numbers, the other half of people are like, you have no life. That's true. I only play this like, once a month now, by the way. And I only play it for like, two hours, like, once a month. The first step is admitting you have a problem.

• 25:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Sorry.

• 25:15David Imel?

That's crazy, because it's just like, by laws of averages, you must have had like, a steep amount of hours before. Oh, yeah, college. And a little bit after. And then in between jobs. Actually, in between my last job and this job, I took a month off between jobs. I played Dota for like, eight hours a day. I remember you telling me that, because I had started here already. Yeah. I was like, what'd you do? Played Dota. Played Dota for a month straight. Okay.

• 25:40Andrew Manganelli?

It's on his screen right now.

• 25:41David Imel?

  You still haven't won?

• 25:43David Imel?

  One?

• 25:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Two, Ellis?

• 25:44Speaker 03

Yeah, what, you haven't beaten the game yet?

• 25:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Just pause.

• 25:47David Imel?

There's no game to be. You can't pause an online game, Andrew.

• 25:51Speaker 03

Sounds like a skill issue. Um, guys, all right, so.

• 25:53David Imel?

  People are bored.

• 25:54Speaker 03

We've covered lots of really great topics so far today. We have Ian Morgan wants to go. But this feels like a great time to announce that in early slash possibly mid slash, there's a chance it might be late August. We will be publishing, posting, releasing, dropping the next edition of Trivia Extravaganza.

• 26:16David Imel?

  Whoa.

• 26:17Speaker 03

That's right. And as promised, well, I shouldn't say as promised because I'm not following through on this promise. A few weeks ago, I promised that there would be a lobster category in Trivia Extravaganza. We had so many bangers that I had to scoot. It had, it had to go boots. That's the word I was looking for. It's really early in the morning. Normally we record this much later in the morning than it is today.

• 26:38David Imel?

  It is early.

• 26:40Speaker 03

So guys, I, I'm taking one of those lobster questions and we're doing it.

• 26:44Andrew Manganelli?

  All right, let's do it.

• 26:44Speaker 03

  Right now. Are you ready?

• 26:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 26:46Speaker 03

Guys, and if this doesn't prove they're freaky.

• 26:50Andrew Manganelli?

  I didn't say they weren't freaky.

• 26:52David Imel?

I love those sea bugs. I love eating those.

• 26:58Speaker 03

Guys, prior to being exposed to oxygen, what color is a lobster's blood?

• 27:04David Imel?

  I just. Everyone knows this.

• 27:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Just learned this yesterday.

• 27:08Speaker 03

  Everyone knows this?

• 27:09Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like there's a default answer to what color is something's blood when it's not the normal color.

• 27:14Speaker 03

  Then put it down.

• 27:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 27:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 27:16Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. But just no. Sounds like we're wrong.

• 27:18David Imel?

Sounds like we're wrong. Yeah. It's gonna be like neon green or something.

• 27:21Speaker 03

I would start thinking freaky guys. This isn't no normal animal. This is a lobster. This is king freak of the sea.

• 27:30David Imel?

Prior to being exposed to oxygen, so before they start breathing.

• 27:34Speaker 03

  Well.

• 27:34David Imel?

When they're in the womb. When it's on its way. Do lobsters have wombs?

• 27:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Wait, actually I don't know.

• 27:39David Imel?

  Or do they lay eggs?

• 27:40Speaker 03

They, they lay eggs. Um, also in your circulatory system, blood leaves the heart oxygenated and returns to it depleted of oxygen.

• 27:49David Imel?

So before it gets back to the heart?

• 27:51Speaker 03

Yes. And the, but it's you have, like, if you cut a lobster open, it will oxygenize, oxygenate.

• 27:57David Imel?

  Oxidize?

• 27:58Speaker 03

  Oxidize.

• 27:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Oxid.

• 28:01Speaker 01

  Box. Just box.

• 28:02Speaker 03

Dad, can I go home? It's four in the morning. I can't do this on

• 28:06Speaker 01

  There's an answer to this?

• 28:07Speaker 03

It's two eight. Yeah, there is. There is an answer to

• 28:09Speaker 01

You either know it or you don't.

• 28:10Speaker 03

And I have even more lobster questions.

• 28:12Speaker 01

So it's more insane than the color I'm thinking?

• 28:14Speaker 03

  I don't know. I don't know what you're thinking.

• 28:15Speaker 01

  We'll see.

• 28:16Speaker 03

  Say it out loud.

• 28:17Speaker 01

  Don't do it.

• 28:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Don't do it.

• 28:18Speaker 03

  Do it.

• 28:18Speaker 01

It's a trap. It's a trap. Just like last week.

• 28:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:22Speaker 01

  So it's a laptop.

• 28:23Speaker 03

Okay, uh, we'll be right back.

• 28:37Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. Andrew, Marquez, David, I've got a riddle for you. What is black and white and orange all over? But not all over, just in between black and white.

• 31:06David Imel?

Probably not the CMF Watch 3 Pro, because it'll probably come in in a different color than it looks online, like every other product.

• 31:15David Imel?

  Good answer.

• 31:15Andrew Manganelli?

  That was exactly it.

• 31:17Speaker 03

  How'd you know?

• 31:20David Imel?

We've got new cheap [BLEEP] to talk about.

• 31:26David Imel?

You've probably, you've probably heard of the CMF Watch 2 Pro.

• 31:31Andrew Manganelli?

  No, Watch Pro 2.

• 31:34David Imel?

I hate everything. They changed the name?

• 31:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes, the name is different.

• 31:37David Imel?

Oh, yeah, it was Watch 2, yeah.

• 31:39Andrew Manganelli?

Watch Pro 2, and this is the Watch 3 Pro.

• 31:42David Imel?

  Okay.

• 31:42Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm not kidding.

• 31:43Speaker 04

What if there are multiple watches?

• 31:45David Imel?

  Watches 3 Pro.

• 31:48David Imel?

Well, CMF, the color material finished, the sub-brand of the, the, the cheap sub-brand of the cheap company that is no longer cheap anymore. Nothing has released a $99, currently $79, because it's early sales, smartwatch called the CMF Watch 3 Pro. It has a 1.43-inch OLED display with a 10% increase in screen-to-body ratio from the Watch 2, and it comes in three colors, and it can do ChatGPT for some reason.

• 32:21Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, so the colors are what actually confused me the most here.

• 32:24David Imel?

  Same.

• 32:25Andrew Manganelli?

So the colors are dark gray, light gray and orange. But if you notice, the styles in all of those colors are also different.

• 32:31David Imel?

Yeah, these are just three different watches.

• 32:33Andrew Manganelli?

These are just three completely different watches.

• 32:35David Imel?

  Nice.

• 32:35Andrew Manganelli?

Style wise, so the, the orange is actually a dark gray bezel and like metal piece, which with some orange accents, a flat bezel that's kind of notched with the orange. Then the dark gray, no wait, sorry, that was the orange color that's actually dark gray. Then the dark gray is just kind of a lighter gray. So it's like middle gray, it's like the middle porridge.

• 32:59David Imel?

And it looks angled, not flat, maybe?

• 33:01Andrew Manganelli?

I think it's kind of flat, but it has no notches.

• 33:03David Imel?

  Right.

• 33:04Andrew Manganelli?

And it has a little, um, like etch in the bottom left that says CMF by nothing. And then light gray is a lighter gray, but it's kind of got like a beveled or like curved design. It's not flat.

• 33:19David Imel?

Perhaps you can call it a lip.

• 33:20Andrew Manganelli?

A lip. Yeah, lip is a good way.

• 33:22David Imel?

Yeah, they also took out the swappable bezels from the last one. And this is like, this is now nothing, not nothing. This is now CMF going back on a lot of replaceable parts. Like we talked about how the, uh, the, what is the, the, the phone with the replaceable back parts?

• 33:41Andrew Manganelli?

  CMF phone.

• 33:42David Imel?

Other one that, that we talked about two weeks ago.

• 33:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Fairphone?

• 33:45David Imel?

Fairphone, the Fairphone six has like those like replaceable back parts now. And then the CMF phone one also had the replaceable back parts. And when, when they released the CMF phone two, they, most of them were not compatible with the CMF phone two.

• 34:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Yep.

• 34:00David Imel?

And now they're kind of doing the same thing with the watch where they like introduce a new sort of like replaceable, swappable paradigm, but they don't keep it going, which kind of sucks.

• 34:11Andrew Manganelli?

  Yep.

• 34:11David Imel?

  It's just a lot of e-waste.

• 34:12Andrew Manganelli?

It's a lot, CMF makes some really cool looking things, but a lot of the stuff they do kind of makes you scratch your head. One of them being calling it the watch pro two and then the watch three pro.

• 34:23David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 34:23Andrew Manganelli?

It feels like that's just. Like that is CMF in a nutshell.

• 34:28David Imel?

Yeah, it does have dual band GPS, though, which is kind of interesting. That's a feature that we're only seeing in like higher end smartwatches these days.

• 34:36Andrew Manganelli?

It's got good stuff. I mean, it's it's what 13 days of battery life, although it says under typical usage, which is 11 days with heavier tracking and 4.5 days with always on display.

• 34:46David Imel?

  I mean, that's still good.

• 34:47Andrew Manganelli?

  It's still good.

• 34:48David Imel?

  For a smartwatch.

• 34:48Andrew Manganelli?

  For sure.

• 34:49David Imel?

Says it charges 100% in 99 minutes.

• 34:54Andrew Manganelli?

There is an AI powered coaching, what everybody's asking for these days.

• 34:57David Imel?

The new rage. Everyone's doing that. But nobody.

• 35:01David Imel?

We don't know if anybody wants it because nobody's asked for it, but maybe it's good. I feel like Apple just announced it, dub dub, and then Samsung was like, make that fast, make that fast, make that fast. Yeah, write that down, write that down. And then now CMF wants to do it. I wonder if anyone likes that. I mean, we're gonna find out this year. This will be the year we find out and then next year they'll either all disappear and no one will hear from them again, or they'll be everywhere. I think it's gonna be the former. Yeah. See. Yeah.

• 35:27Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. The other thing is that now you'll be using the Nothing X app to control the watches and I believe the previous watches will also be transitioning to the Nothing X.

• 35:37David Imel?

That's nice at least because the headphones also use the app.

• 35:40Andrew Manganelli?

It is nice. Oh, the CMF headphones.

• 35:43David Imel?

  Sorry, the Nothing headphone one.

• 35:45Andrew Manganelli?

I agree that doing it all in one app is nice. It's just weird that this is the CMF stuff that's now doing the nothing things.

• 35:51David Imel?

  Yep.

• 35:52Andrew Manganelli?

  CMF's doing nothing.

• 35:53Speaker 03

Nothing tries so hard to be trendy and I feel bad talking smack because I do appreciate how hard they try, right? Like so much harder than everyone else, but they try so hard and make so little sense all the time that when you say Nothing X app, instead of X representing the interchange of all their products, it just sounds like nothing is collaborating with a company called App.

• 36:13David Imel?

  Yeah, with.

• 36:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, with X like Twitter.

• 36:17Speaker 03

  Nothing X app.

• 36:18David Imel?

Yeah. Well, speaking of nothing, we saw a random post from Essential, which if you remember the Essential brand, the Essential PH1 was one of the greatest phones ever created. One of the most acidic phones ever created, too. Interesting, yeah.

• 36:36David Imel?

Yeah, so famously Andy Rubin's phone company, it was supposed to be sort of like the pinnacle of what Android could be. It had a beautiful design. It was one of the first teardrop notch phones. It didn't have a headphone jack and they added like a little pogo pin adapter to add a headphone jack, which was really lame. But it had a DAC in it. Anyway, it was really, really cool. It was a really cool company and then they just disappeared sort of out of nowhere because they kind of like ran out of money. They also launched on Sprint in the United States, which was the stupidest thing you could possibly do. And then it disappeared for a long time. And then in 2021, Carl Pae bought the brand. And allegedly, nothing was originally going to be called Essential. They were just going to take over the brand.

• 37:20David Imel?

And then they didn't and they called it Nothing. So they've just done nothing with the Essential brand.

• 37:27Speaker 01

Yeah, I kind of forgot that they owned that brand.

• 37:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 37:30Andrew Manganelli?

Well, did they really announce it much back then or like?

• 37:33David Imel?

I think it was just like a report.

• 37:35Andrew Manganelli?

In the last couple of like.

• 37:36Speaker 01

Yeah, they didn't really announce it or do anything with it.

• 37:39Andrew Manganelli?

He did a video like a month ago about why they bought it. And what was cool about it is someone who works at Nothing Now has the old Project Gem, the second phone they were gonna release. The really skinny one.

• 37:49David Imel?

  Really skinny.

• 37:50Andrew Manganelli?

If you have a chance to watch the video, the funniest thing is the keyboard. Because in order to fit the keyboard, so for anyone who doesn't know, Project Gem was an extremely thin phone. Like a four by one aspect ratio.

• 38:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 38:03Andrew Manganelli?

And in order to fit the keyboard, it basically had to like diagonally go across the screen from left bottom to right upwards to fit everything. And it took like three quarters of the screen up to just put an entire keyboard.

• 38:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 38:17Andrew Manganelli?

And it's very funny. Go watch that video if you want to see what Project Jem could have been.

• 38:21David Imel?

But possibly in one of the biggest letdowns of all time, we see this post on Twitter that's just print hello world from the Essential account. And everyone's like, oh, my God, it's Essential coming back. They're gonna make another Essential phone. This is gonna be amazing. Because everyone forgot that, you know, Nothing had bought them. And then they just started posting about Essential Space, which is like that, the key on the new Nothing phones.

• 38:46Speaker 01

  That's what that is.

• 38:47David Imel?

It adds your stuff to the Essential Space. It's called the Essential Key. And it's like, wow, you really, you really took a really amazing brand and you just used it for an AI feature that nobody really likes.

• 38:57Andrew Manganelli?

I probably wouldn't take the brand name. They did, the phone was really cool. And in hindsight, it was, but it was getting memed on so hard because they called it the Essential Phone right in the peak of first getting rid of the headphone jack.

• 39:09David Imel?

  That's true.

• 39:09Andrew Manganelli?

Like, everyone was like, what? The headphone jack's not Essential. And back then, that was a crazier thing. And also, Andy Rubin just didn't have the best record.

• 39:18David Imel?

  Well.

• 39:19Andrew Manganelli?

Which kind of really killed the company.

• 39:21David Imel?

He did until his stuff happened. And then the, the Jem phone came out like right around when he got in trouble and exposed. So that was fun.

• 39:31Andrew Manganelli?

So, yeah, I probably would also get, but it was a weird thing for them to tweet from the account.

• 39:36David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 39:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:37David Imel?

Yeah. Everyone got all stoked. And then they were just like, you can integrate to Google Calendar with the Essential Key. And everyone's like, oh, no.

• 39:45Speaker 01

Yeah. I want the Essential Space to get better. I've talked about it in every new phone review I've done for a Nothing phone, just to see like how they've improved over the time that it's been out. And it, it still doesn't sync anywhere. So I have this thing where I save links and I save things that I want to remember later. But I use, actually, right now, I use raindrop.io, which is multi-platform. But the whole point is I can access it from anywhere. I can access it from my computer. I can save things from my computer. I can access stuff from my phone, save things from my phone. And this is a kind of useful tool, but it only works on your phone and only pulls from the stuff you've saved earlier on your phone. So if you have any other devices that you save stuff from, it won't show up here.

• 40:26Speaker 01

So my number one ask for this is for it to get backed up somewhere. Maybe I can just access it from a browser or something that just that would make it a multitude more useful for me.

• 40:37David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:37Speaker 01

And then from there, it can just be the place that I dump stuff that I want to remember later. That's kind of cool. They can add features there. It could be useful. Add calendar events, whatever. But yeah, every time they announce a new phone, I go, oh, it's still getting better, but I'm still not going to use it. Because I can only use it on my phone.

• 40:53David Imel?

Yeah. Which theoretically, Google should have the ability to do all of those things because they have all your calendar data.

• 40:59Speaker 01

  Yeah, just Google tasks.

• 41:00David Imel?

  And all your Gmail data.

• 41:02Speaker 04

I was just gonna say, isn't that just the Google suite? Like everything you just described.

• 41:05David Imel?

That's the possibility of the Google suite.

• 41:07Speaker 04

  Well, yeah.

• 41:07David Imel?

But they haven't actually done anything like that.

• 41:09Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 41:10David Imel?

Yeah. Which is why all these new AI browsers are popping up, like OpenAI is reportedly working on their own browser. And the whole perplexity has comment, the whole value chain of that is that if you're talking to the AI model all the time, it learns more about you. So the browser can be more personalized. But Google's had the opportunity to do that for a really long time and they haven't done it, which is very fun.

• 41:31Speaker 04

I mean, I don't know how you would train a model like that. So this could be a stupid question. But doesn't Google already have all that information? Like, why do I need to continually talk to it again? Like it already has everything.

• 41:42David Imel?

I don't think you really do.

• 41:43Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 41:43David Imel?

I just think that they probably are trying to tread a fine line between privacy and figuring out how to much of your data to use. And then also it's Google.

• 41:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:54David Imel?

And that's kind of the answer.

• 41:55Speaker 01

I feel like they kind of were on to something a long time ago, but then never really finished it. Remember Google Now? Remember when they-

• 42:03David Imel?

  Google Now on tap?

• 42:03Speaker 01

Yeah, Now on Tap, which was, and then they added like on screen stuff. But basically the idea was, oh, we're Google. We know all this stuff about you. We see your calendar. We see your Gmail. So when you wake up in the morning, Google Now is going to tell you what you need to know right now, which is, oh, there's a little extra traffic on your way to work because I know where you work and I know how long it takes for you to get to work and when you typically leave. So leave 10 minutes earlier and you'll get there on time. And here's the things you're gonna do when you get to work and here's the calendar events and how you need to go from thing to thing. And it, it, that, that idea of like knowing everything about you and being helpful for you is, is useful. It's helpful. And yeah, Gemini could do some more of that, I think, but in general, right now, it's kind of not.

• 42:43David Imel?

Yeah. Basically, the best Gemini feature now is to take a screenshot and have it added to your calendar.

• 42:48Speaker 01

  Which is good. Yeah.

• 42:50David Imel?

  But.

• 42:50Speaker 01

Same thing that Siri, same thing Visual Intelligence does on the iPhone.

• 42:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:55Speaker 01

  If you use Apple Calendar.

• 42:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:58Speaker 04

Yeah, I feel like Google now got so watered down and just put into like the little pixel widget that's on like the top left.

• 43:03Speaker 01

It was so useful for so long.

• 43:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:06Speaker 01

  Went away. Anyway.

• 43:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Speaking of Google.

• 43:09David Imel?

  Nice.

• 43:10Speaker 01

  As usual.

• 43:10Andrew Manganelli?

All I added to that conversation.

• 43:12Speaker 01

  That's nice.

• 43:12Andrew Manganelli?

I was reading about Raindrop I/O. It looks pretty cool.

• 43:15Speaker 01

  It's great.

• 43:15Andrew Manganelli?

  It sounds pretty good.

• 43:17Speaker 04

It's just like a save you, save for later kind of place?

• 43:20Speaker 01

  Basically, you remember Pocket?

• 43:21Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 43:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 43:21Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 43:22Speaker 01

You know how Pocket's kind of like going away?

• 43:24Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 43:24Speaker 01

  So I switched to this.

• 43:25Speaker 04

Didn't Pocket, they, they made a new Pocket called like Folio or something too.

• 43:29Speaker 01

Oh, the people. Do I need to try that too?

• 43:31Speaker 04

  Yeah, probably.

• 43:32Speaker 01

I've been using, because Pocket had an app that was native on a bunch of platforms. I had the Pocket app on my phone, my tablet, the browser extension, everything. So anytime I needed to say something for later, I just put it in my Pocket. And now that that is like going away, Raindrop I/O is essentially that.

• 43:48Speaker 04

Pocket has such better branding though.

• 43:50Speaker 01

  It is.

• 43:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Put it in my Pocket.

• 43:51Speaker 04

  So dope.

• 43:52Speaker 01

  Perfect. Yeah.

• 43:53Speaker 04

What are you gonna say with Raindrop?

• 43:54Speaker 01

Put it in my Raindrop that I am. Yeah, I don't, I don't love saying that out loud.

• 43:57Speaker 04

  Put it in my bucket?

• 43:58Speaker 01

  Not a great verb.

• 43:59Andrew Manganelli?

Volcano a whole song about it.

• 44:00Speaker 01

  In my back pocket?

• 44:01David Imel?

  In my back pocket.

• 44:02Speaker 01

It's true. But yeah, I, uh, I use Raindrop now and, and it's about the same thing.

• 44:07David Imel?

  Speaking of Google.

• 44:10Speaker 01

Yes, okay. So, Google has been notoriously bad at keeping things a secret. At this point, I'm afraid to ask why. I don't know why. Things just leak for like months before they come out for Google.

• 44:24Speaker 04

  Before they're even announced.

• 44:25Speaker 01

Yeah, before they're even like confirmed to be real products.

• 44:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 44:28Speaker 01

So, uh, Google started owning that in the past couple of years. They've like poked fun at that. They've started like revealing things before the leaks can even do it or whatever. They're doing this now with the Pixel 10. They've just shown us the design of the Pixel 10, which is only a design, you know, we don't know the specs, we don't know the price, there are other things that they can announce later. Great, that'll probably also leak, but whatever. Yeah. But what they're showing us is a design of the Pixel 10. And what's interesting here is, one, it's basically the Pixel 9. Yeah. A little bit of a different, like titanium-ish color. Two, uh, if this is in fact a Pixel 10, because there's a nice little 10 second video that they're showing us, which is like they're unveiling it. If this is in fact the Pixel 10 and not the 10 Pro,

• 45:13Speaker 01

then confirmed triple cameras on the base Pixel 10, which is a nice upgrade. Which I think we've mentioned this on a previous episode, makes it even more challenging to distinguish it between the 10 and the 10 Pro. What are they gonna do on the 10 Pro that's not on the 10? If there's triple cameras on the 10? Maybe, yeah, brighter screen.

• 45:32Andrew Manganelli?

  We might have some rumors.

• 45:34Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 45:34Andrew Manganelli?

I want full speculation on this.

• 45:36Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 45:37Andrew Manganelli?

  I even created a theory.

• 45:38Speaker 01

  Let's hear the theory.

• 45:39Andrew Manganelli?

  So.

• 45:40Speaker 04

  You sounded so proud.

• 45:41Andrew Manganelli?

We talked about that. I need to make Google leaks interesting, because they happen every damn day. So, um, so like you said, there's a 10 second video that showed the goo- it just said 10 and a Pixel with three cameras. So we're hoping, I'm hoping personally, a base Model 10 with a telephoto.

• 45:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:59Andrew Manganelli?

Then Google India tweets this uh, different ad that says, "Ask more of your phone, Google Pixel 10 Pro." It's the same exact phone reader that has the exact, like, lens flare coming off of the the visor. It's in a little different scenario. So then I'm like, oh no, this is just the 10 Pro. It doesn't have uh, 10. But Android Headlines has done a bunch of different leaks, to the point where it seems like they have the camera specs, which might help us understand the different, if there are three on the base, what the difference is. And that is that the base phone will be using Pixel 9A sensors for everything, where the 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL will have upgraded sensors.

• 46:42Speaker 01

That is so hard to sell. So they both have triple cameras, but the Pro has better triple cameras.

• 46:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Correct.

• 46:49David Imel?

Regular people are not gonna care.

• 46:51Speaker 01

  This is funny, yeah.

• 46:53Andrew Manganelli?

  But I don't, yeah.

• 46:54Speaker 01

  I hate to.

• 46:54Andrew Manganelli?

  That matters.

• 46:55Speaker 01

I agree. I don't, I hate to ding them for that because I think in the world of like people like deeply researching their phones, they will realize that that's probably something that is worth it if you take a lot of pictures and photos and videos and all that. But that is very hard for the regular person to understand.

• 47:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:11Speaker 01

Oh, there's triple cameras on this one and there's triple cameras on this one. Okay, I guess I'll just save my money and get the 10.

• 47:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:18Andrew Manganelli?

I would argue most people, if they said there's two cameras on this and three on the other, they would be like, what does that do?

• 47:27Speaker 01

I think most people know that you get the ultra wide or you get the zoom.

• 47:30Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think most people know what an ultra wide really does.

• 47:33Speaker 01

The point 5X. Most people just call it the point 5X, I guess. But if you get the extra camera, that means it'll do better when you zoom, basically. And if they both have that better zoom, then what's the point of upgrading to the pro if they both have it? I don't think Google's trying to get people to upgrade to the pro. That's kinda how it feels. Yeah.

• 47:51Andrew Manganelli?

Like, I just want anyone to have one.

• 47:53Speaker 01

Wait, maybe this is, maybe this is kinda hero work. Maybe they're just doing the best possible base phone and then they're like, the pro phones? Whatever, we don't care that much about those, but we wanna make the best base phone.

• 48:02David Imel?

What if they just call them the pro phones, but there's nothing different and they charge $300 more?

• 48:08Speaker 01

  That's actually what's happening.

• 48:09Andrew Manganelli?

Um, I think you could argue the opposite way of it almost being nefarious of, let's just throw three on the bottom phone, but they're not as good. But no one's gonna know the difference between good cameras, bad cameras. They just see three bigger number.

• 48:21David Imel?

How do we know that that's the, the regular one and not the pro?

• 48:26Andrew Manganelli?

  We don't.

• 48:26Speaker 01

  We don't.

• 48:27Andrew Manganelli?

  We're.

• 48:27David Imel?

Shouldn't we assume it's the pro then if it has three cameras?

• 48:30Speaker 01

Well, India posted that it's the pro.

• 48:32Andrew Manganelli?

India posted it's the pro, but there have been tons of rumors of the base having a third camera to the point of like specs coming out for it, so.

• 48:41Speaker 01

Google India account, not the country of India.

• 48:43Andrew Manganelli?

Well, so that was my theory that. Google's trying to confuse us with their own leaks now. By putting one as the 10 and one as the 10 Pro and being like, now you don't know. Our leaks are so bad, maybe if we leak four, you'll be more confused.

• 48:59Speaker 01

I, I, I think the real answer is whoever runs the Google India account doesn't talk to the person who runs the Made by Google account and just tweeted that it's the 10 Pro and oops, they just told everyone it's the 10 Pro.

• 49:09Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, so let's see, who thinks there will be three cameras on the base 10?

• 49:14Speaker 01

I think there will be two cameras on the base.

• 49:16David Imel?

Well, according to these Android headline's renders, because they have renders of, uh, four of the colors, which are god awful, by the way.

• 49:25Andrew Manganelli?

  No, totally disagree.

• 49:27David Imel?

  Okay.

• 49:27Andrew Manganelli?

  I love these colors.

• 49:28David Imel?

  Um, limoncello.

• 49:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Amazing.

• 49:31David Imel?

  Okay. It's not.

• 49:33Andrew Manganelli?

If that's the, if that's the color of lobster blood, I will admit, it is freakier than crabs.

• 49:41Speaker 01

  It looks like piss.

• 49:42Andrew Manganelli?

  It's sick piss, though.

• 49:44David Imel?

Sure, okay, and then we've got frost, which is kind of like a very, very, very muted blue. It's actually like the same color as the like MacBook Air blue.

• 49:53Speaker 01

  It's barely blue.

• 49:54David Imel?

Barely blue. You've got indigo, which is like a deep blue, which is actually quite nice.

• 49:58Speaker 01

  Sounds fire.

• 49:58David Imel?

Uh, and obsidian, which is just black, but, well, it's gray.

• 50:02Speaker 01

  Hell yeah.

• 50:03David Imel?

  Hell yeah.

• 50:05Andrew Manganelli?

  That's the one.

• 50:06David Imel?

Hell yeah. Go on. All right, well, you know, black, technically, yeah, okay, whatever.

• 50:11Speaker 01

Yo, they got that in gray?

• 50:13David Imel?

It absorbs every, you got that in gray?

• 50:15Andrew Manganelli?

  It is all really.

• 50:16David Imel?

Usually they do the worst, like the more insane colors for the, the cheaper model.

• 50:21Andrew Manganelli?

  That's a very good point.

• 50:22David Imel?

So I would imagine that these are the cheaper models, because I don't see Google selling a piss colored Pro phone.

• 50:31Speaker 01

  That's a, that's valid.

• 50:32Andrew Manganelli?

  I can't wait, I'm pre-ordering that now.

• 50:34David Imel?

So you're thinking, because these are bright colored phones, these are probably the base phones, and they appear to have triple cameras, therefore triple cameras on the base.

• 50:43Speaker 01

  That would be my speculation.

• 50:44Andrew Manganelli?

I think it's obvious, we've all learned that Pro people are not allowed to have fun colors.

• 50:49David Imel?

That's true, they're probably gonna have like a black and a white for the Pro and that'll be it.

• 50:53Speaker 01

  Hell yeah. Hell yeah.

• 50:55David Imel?

  Yeah, I'm into that.

• 50:56Andrew Manganelli?

You can't be a pro and have fun at the same time.

• 50:58David Imel?

  No.

• 50:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Apples proved that.

• 50:59David Imel?

Well, you know, you just put a skin on it. That's all.

• 51:02Speaker 01

Adam, did you say that there was a piss-colored Pro Phone before?

• 51:05Andrew Manganelli?

They've had a very similar to this.

• 51:07Speaker 04

Yeah, I don't know if it was Pro, but it was like a

• 51:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Six.

• 51:10Speaker 04

Yeah, six or six A, one of those. It was like a yellow-ish.

• 51:14Andrew Manganelli?

  It was lemoncello.

• 51:15Speaker 01

  Pro?

• 51:16Andrew Manganelli?

  No, not a Pro.

• 51:16Speaker 04

  I don't think it was a Pro.

• 51:18Andrew Manganelli?

Similarly colored to this like weird.

• 51:20Speaker 04

Yeah, lemongrass. I think it was called lemongrass.

• 51:22Speaker 01

Yeah, it sounds right. Yeah. Yeah, but that was a regular model.

• 51:26Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 51:27Speaker 01

  I do love it.

• 51:28Andrew Manganelli?

Told you. You, I already got you on my side.

• 51:31Speaker 01

Oh, wait, sorry. I was looking at the

• 51:32Speaker 04

  Well, that was fast.

• 51:33Speaker 01

I was looking at the old one. The old one, the lemongrass was nice. This one is like, it's like if piss fell into like a nuclear reactor.

• 51:42David Imel?

Like if you just drank Gatorade for like three weeks.

• 51:45Andrew Manganelli?

  The Pixel 7.

• 51:46David Imel?

  You would also dehydrate.

• 51:48Speaker 01

  The Pixel 7.

• 51:49Speaker 03

It just looks like lemoncello. I don't know, like.

• 51:51Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it's awesome.

• 51:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 51:53Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it's a sick.

• 51:53Speaker 03

  I kind of like it.

• 51:54Speaker 01

Well, anyway, I assume that they're the, the cheaper ones, which would, which would also say that there are three cameras on the cheap ones, which is

• 52:01Andrew Manganelli?

Is anyone here going two cameras on the base?

• 52:03Speaker 01

Not anymore, I guess. It seems like fire colors for the pros. That would be really interesting.

• 52:08David Imel?

I mean, Michael Fisher will be happy.

• 52:10Andrew Manganelli?

I want, I'm hoping three. If there's three, I think I'm going back to Pixel, a base Pixel.

• 52:15Speaker 01

You should, because I hate Samsung's UI.

• 52:17Andrew Manganelli?

My, dude, I finally, I like their UI. Ever since one UI 7, I've had the weirdest random things that just happen to my phone all of the time. And I'm so sick of it and they never happen on my Pixel, like other problems.

• 52:29Speaker 01

The Android 16 beta on my Pixel 9 Pro XL is so nice.

• 52:33Andrew Manganelli?

  It's nice.

• 52:34Speaker 01

Even though it's still buggy and even though it still has terrible battery life, that look of, what are we, what are we calling it again?

• 52:40David Imel?

  Material 3 expressive.

• 52:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, material 3 expressive.

• 52:43David Imel?

  Awful name.

• 52:44Speaker 01

  Whatever it's called, it's, it's, it's nice. It's playful. It's, but it's still clean. It's not too messy.

• 52:50Andrew Manganelli?

Being an Android user is such a toxic

• 52:53David Imel?

  Relationship.

• 52:53Speaker 04

I've been having those same bugs, but I refuse to go back because it just looks so good.

• 52:58Speaker 01

It does look so good. So I'm excited for like a final, finished, clean, bugless version of that on this new phone with a TSMC-designed chip and amazing carb, silicon carbon battery and all this other stuff. That's totally not going to happen, but.

• 53:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 53:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:12David Imel?

I mean, it'll have the TSMC chip. I don't know about the silicon carbon battery.

• 53:15Speaker 01

  We'll see. We'll see.

• 53:16David Imel?

  Okay, well.

• 53:18Speaker 01

If I could design my dream Pixel, it would just be this design.

• 53:22Speaker 04

  That color.

• 53:23Speaker 01

Right? Give me, yeah, whatever. Give me yellow. I don't care. But give me the great cameras, obviously. Give me super fast charging, silicon carbon battery, 6,000 milliamp hours, and give me like Snapdragon 8 Elite performance. I don't care how you do it. TSMC design, Swiss Qualcomm, whatever you gotta do, give me great performance, and I'm all in.

• 53:40David Imel?

  And make it a trifold.

• 53:40Speaker 01

The display is already pretty good. Trifold, not happening. Google has a lot of work to do. No headphone jack.

• 53:48David Imel?

Yeah, I'm there with the Pixel. I'm right there.

• 53:51Speaker 01

Well, I guess we'll see soon because the official event is August 20th.

• 53:55David Imel?

  It is coming soon.

• 53:56Speaker 01

Which is a Wednesday, so we'll be recording on that day.

• 53:59David Imel?

  Nice.

• 54:00Speaker 01

  Alright.

• 54:01David Imel?

  Speaking of trivia.

• 54:04Speaker 01

I think that was the wrong button.

• 54:05Speaker 04

  Whoops.

• 54:09David Imel?

  There we go.

• 54:10Speaker 04

Also, wait, we weren't talking about... Okay. Alright, trivia! So, here's a question for you. I'm gonna read a few quick, short reviews of a phone, and you have to tell me what phone it is.

• 54:22Speaker 01

  Who wrote the reviews?

• 54:24Speaker 04

I will, I will tell you.

• 54:24Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 54:25Speaker 04

Alright. From Wired. "Positively noted its design, battery life, performance, and stock Android OS, but disliked the camera and built-in speaker." And Gadget. "Praised its build quality, edge-to-edge display, performance, battery life, and clean build of Android 7.1.1, but criticized the screen's brightness and lack of a headphone jack." I fix it.

• 54:48Speaker 01

I already know what the phone this is.

• 54:49Speaker 04

"Gave the phone a 1 out of 10 in terms of repairability, because it is almost impossible to open without freezing and ultimately breaking it."

• 54:56Speaker 01

I definitely know what the phone this is.

• 54:57Speaker 04

Tech reviewer Marques Brownlee gave the phone an award.

• 55:00David Imel?

Hey, that's cheating. Don't do that. Don't do that.

• 55:03Speaker 01

  I know what it is.

• 55:04David Imel?

I already know what it is.

• 55:05Speaker 01

I also know what the phone is.

• 55:06Speaker 04

We'll see. We'll see if you know what it is.

• 55:08Speaker 01

There was a conversation about this this week on the internet.

• 55:11David Imel?

I gave it an award, yeah. I did.

• 55:14Speaker 04

I think I remember what the award looks like.

• 55:17Speaker 01

What the award looks like. Ooh.

• 55:20Speaker 03

I really hope you guys get this one wrong.

• 55:22Speaker 01

Yeah, the trophy from that year was different, right?

• 55:24Andrew Manganelli?

Can I get an extra point for what material the trophy was made out of?

• 55:27Speaker 01

  No, because you ordered it.

• 55:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 55:32Speaker 03

Yo, I'll give you an extra point if you want another lobster question.

• 55:36Speaker 01

I would love another lobster question.

• 55:37Speaker 03

All right, looks like it's a three, it's a three question episode, guys. All right, which of the following lobsters are found in US waters? Hit it, Adam. The spiny lobster.

• 55:49Andrew Manganelli?

  It's so early.

• 55:51Speaker 03

A, the spiny lobster. B, the true lobster. C, the squat lobster. Or D, the musical furry lobster.

• 56:02Andrew Manganelli?

  The musical furry lobster.

• 56:03Speaker 03

  The musical furry lobster.

• 56:07Speaker 01

  That's freaky.

• 56:08Speaker 03

  Freaky, right?

• 56:10Andrew Manganelli?

Yo. Wait, why? Because it's furry? Because I sent you a furry crab the other day and said, ain't this freaky?

• 56:14Speaker 03

Yeah, but is it a musical furry crab?

• 56:16Andrew Manganelli?

  A furry crab?

• 56:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:18Speaker 01

How can any thing be furry when it's underwater?

• 56:20Speaker 03

  Guys, don't Google that question!

• 56:22Speaker 01

  I was gonna, furry crab.

• 56:24Andrew Manganelli?

  No!

• 56:25Speaker 03

Be careful. Guys, what do you think the heaviest lobster ever observed in US waters was? This is not for points.

• 56:30Speaker 01

  30 pounds.

• 56:31Speaker 03

  It was 45 pounds.

• 56:33Andrew Manganelli?

  I bet.

• 56:34Speaker 01

I was pretty close. We eating good tonight. Yeah, we eating good.

• 56:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:37Speaker 01

That's wild. All right, well, anyway, we're gonna think about the answers to the trivia questions. We swear. And we'll be right back.

• 56:57Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot. Assign them work directly or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping.

Welcome back. This is the last episode that you will be seeing this month, which means it's time for Crown or Clown, our monthly-ish, because we didn't do last month, segment where basically we talk about the best thing that happened in the tech sphere this month and the worst thing. So we're going to go around, talk about our things. Ellis is going to kick us off with a horrible thing.

• 59:14Speaker 03

I saw someone do something goofy this week. And, you know, I like to think of myself, I like to think of this room as SeaWorld and myself as Shamu and America's billionaire class as all sitting in the splash zone. And I will take any opportunity I get to just drench them in embarrassment. And today's goofball moneybag McDookiehead is none other than OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who in the most tone deaf way possible announced that him and Oracle and SoftBank will be increasing their power usage by 4.5 gigawatts.

• 59:55Speaker 03

That is the same amount of electricity as around 4 million US households, which would increase the total number of households on the US grid by 3%. Sam, why do you think people are stoked on this?

• 1:00:09Andrew Manganelli?

How's the orb doing? Yeah, how's the orb doing?

• 1:00:11David Imel?

Is it clown, more clowns first?

• 1:00:13Speaker 01

  I have more clowns.

• 1:00:15David Imel?

Yeah, do a clown. Drop one.

• 1:00:16Speaker 01

  Olaf Gustafson?

• 1:00:18David Imel?

  Who's that?

• 1:00:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, duh.

• 1:00:19Speaker 01

Uh, the guy who tried to get away with Escobar thing, he was going to federal prison now.

• 1:00:24Andrew Manganelli?

In his defense, he did get away with it for a little bit.

• 1:00:27Speaker 01

Uh, the FBI was on his ass for like five years.

• 1:00:33Andrew Manganelli?

And also, he made like $300,000 in those like five years ago.

• 1:00:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:37David Imel?

He could have made more money at a tech company.

• 1:00:40Speaker 01

He could have got a job with Meta.

• 1:00:41David Imel?

  That's like an $80,000.

• 1:00:43Andrew Manganelli?

He could have just worked remote for like five different tech companies at the same time.

• 1:00:47Speaker 03

Yeah, but all that crime bought him a three-bedroom home in Milwaukee.

• 1:00:52Andrew Manganelli?

  That's true.

• 1:00:52David Imel?

  That's true.

• 1:00:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Did it?

• 1:00:53Speaker 03

I don't know. That's what I would think. I would assume that is about $300,000.

• 1:00:58Andrew Manganelli?

I bet that's more expensive. Milwaukee?

• 1:01:01David Imel?

  Adam's clown time.

• 1:01:02Speaker 03

I'm looking at four bedrooms for $250 here.

• 1:01:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:01:05Speaker 03

  Milwaukee's hot.

• 1:01:08David Imel?

  Milwaukee's milhottie.

• 1:01:09Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, all right, my clown is the Fujifilm X-Half.

• 1:01:14David Imel?

  Oh, wow.

• 1:01:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, that happened this month.

• 1:01:16David Imel?

  You hated it?

• 1:01:16Andrew Manganelli?

I didn't hate it. I just think it's not worth it.

• 1:01:19David Imel?

  Also, wasn't that last month?

• 1:01:21Andrew Manganelli?

Well, we didn't do last month, so we can... No, that wasn't last month.

• 1:01:24David Imel?

Because we talked about it this month, yeah.

• 1:01:25Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, yeah, yeah, we talked about it.

• 1:01:26Speaker 01

That's Sony, is that $5,000 Sony A camera?

• 1:01:30David Imel?

Well, I need to see it first.

• 1:01:32Andrew Manganelli?

  RX1R?

• 1:01:33David Imel?

I need to use RX1R3. I need to use it before I say it's a crown product.

• 1:01:38Speaker 03

It could be a crown product.

• 1:01:39David Imel?

That's fair. That's very fair of you. Thank you.

• 1:01:41Speaker 03

  That's correct.

• 1:01:42David Imel?

  Yeah, fair guy.

• 1:01:43Andrew Manganelli?

All right, we want to switch it to crowns? I have one that could be either, and I'll let you guys decide.

• 1:01:47David Imel?

  Okay. I'm ambiguous.

• 1:01:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Fortnite released Fantastic Four skins.

• 1:01:54David Imel?

Can we say that on the pod?

• 1:01:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:56David Imel?

  I'm going clown.

• 1:01:56Andrew Manganelli?

  There's skins for a game.

• 1:01:58Speaker 01

  I'm going.

• 1:01:59Andrew Manganelli?

  From Fantastic Four.

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

Clown for the thing itself, crown for that headline.

• 1:02:03David Imel?

For the cra- I was gonna go the other way around, actually, but yeah, yeah, sure, yeah.

• 1:02:08Andrew Manganelli?

If you wanna play like Fantastic Four, I don't see what we're all laughing about.

• 1:02:12Speaker 01

Did those actually come out, or was it a leak? I thought it was like a random.

• 1:02:16David Imel?

  Everybody was waiting for them.

• 1:02:17Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't wanna tell.

• 1:02:18Speaker 01

  Yeah, do not Google that.

• 1:02:20David Imel?

Um, my clown was that when Apple like removed a bunch of the liquid glass and they made it.

• 1:02:26Speaker 01

  That was my crown.

• 1:02:27David Imel?

But they have now brought back a lot of the liquid.

• 1:02:31Speaker 01

Yeah, for those who haven't been following this, liquid glass at WWDC, everywhere, everything is clear, crystal clear, can't read a damn thing, it's so liquid. And then they shipped this beta to everyone, the first developer beta, so not everyone, developer beta starts getting tested by people. And uh, yeah, it is a kind of a readability disaster, right? So what happens is in beta two, when it comes out a few weeks later, people download it and they notice, oh, there's actually a lot of liquid glass, uh, backtracking, there's a lot more frosted glass.

• 1:03:06David Imel?

Wasn't it beta three that they added that?

• 1:03:07Speaker 01

  And beta three even more.

• 1:03:08David Imel?

  Oh, yeah, even more.

• 1:03:09Speaker 01

So beta two and beta three, they walked back a lot of the liquid glass, to the point where it was actually very similar, I mean, obviously there's lots of still shiny reflective stuff, but a lot of the like floating bubbly elements from before, now had like a frosted background, or had like a gradient behind them to make them more readable. Then beta four comes out, and liquid glass is back.

• 1:03:31David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

And they've gone back and they've gotten rid of that gradient and they're going back to a lot of the liquidy stuff. And they're still playing with it and some of the like Gaussian blur elements happening along with the refraction around the edges. It's still liquid glass, but they are for sure still tweaking it.

• 1:03:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:46Speaker 01

As of this recording, um, that was my clown, actually, my crown.

• 1:03:50David Imel?

  Oh, your crown.

• 1:03:51Speaker 01

My crown is that liquid glass is back.

• 1:03:53David Imel?

  Nice, nice.

• 1:03:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:55Andrew Manganelli?

My crown is the Fuji X half. Because I loved using it.

• 1:04:00David Imel?

So why did you hate it then?

• 1:04:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Because it's so expensive.

• 1:04:02David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:04:03Andrew Manganelli?

  But it's so fun.

• 1:04:04David Imel?

I mean, I feel like we're just starting to see, now that products are launching, we're just starting to see like tariff effects, right? I feel like the Sony and the Fuji were both subject to that, and that's like why they're so expensive. Everything is feeling drastically overpriced now because of the like tariff chaos. And it's not even the fact that there are like tariffs in place, because that changes every freaking day. It's the fact that companies can't predict if there's going to be tariffs in place, so they have to price things higher. Safety net. Yeah, it's like safety nets, so.

• 1:04:30Andrew Manganelli?

They're so sad that they have to price everything so high.

• 1:04:33David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:04:34Andrew Manganelli?

It's really. We have to make more money if there's no more tariffs.

• 1:04:37David Imel?

Um, yeah, okay, so my crown is that, uh, the giant insurance company no longer owns our DNA data. And it was sold back to Susan Wojcicki's sister. Yeah. Which is dope, hopefully.

• 1:04:55Andrew Manganelli?

  She owned 23andMe, right?

• 1:04:56David Imel?

So 23andMe, yeah, the, the, the old CEO of 23andMe has bought back the data. So no longer, hopefully, will our genetic data be sold to insurance companies for at least a couple more years. Allegedly. Allegedly. I'm sure that it will at some point, but the longer we can starve off these companies from denying my insurance claims, the better.

• 1:05:19Andrew Manganelli?

She's gonna start an AI firm with it?

• 1:05:22David Imel?

So that was my first crown. My second crown is that we did a live show and it was cool.

• 1:05:25Andrew Manganelli?

The live show was awesome. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We're the crown, baby.

• 1:05:29David Imel?

Wait, hold up. It's like in Mario Kart world, when you're in first place and you suddenly have a little crown on, that's how I'm feeling right now. You know what I'm saying?

• 1:05:37Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, I want to change my crown. Donkey Kong Bonanza.

• 1:05:42David Imel?

  Yeah. So, um.

• 1:05:44Andrew Manganelli?

We all agree the crown is us, right? Yeah.

• 1:05:46David Imel?

  Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

• 1:05:48Andrew Manganelli?

  We are tech.

• 1:05:49David Imel?

  We are technology.

• 1:05:51Andrew Manganelli?

Why are you thinking about this?

• 1:05:52Speaker 04

  Yeah, dude.

• 1:05:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Come on.

• 1:05:53Speaker 01

  Alright, yeah.

• 1:05:54Andrew Manganelli?

Dude, we put a lot of work into that.

• 1:05:56Speaker 04

  He's like, "I don't know, that beta 4, man."

• 1:05:58David Imel?

Yeah, I'm still thinking about Glass.

• 1:05:59Andrew Manganelli?

I'm still confused, you like that it's going back to not being able to be read?

• 1:06:02David Imel?

  I like it.

• 1:06:03Speaker 01

  No, I...

• 1:06:03David Imel?

Yeah. I like that I can't understand it.

• 1:06:05Speaker 01

It's a bit sarcastic, but it's kinda just that like, liquid... If you follow this on online, on Twitter and threads, like, people are like, rooting for it to be back. And then there are other people who are like, "This is terrible." So it's causing so much, like, commentary. It's one of the weird instances of us clearly seeing Apple listening to the internet and feedback that they've gotten, which is, maybe that's kinda nice, but it is clearly affecting the way it looks.

• 1:06:31Andrew Manganelli?

It's both nice and a sign of the times that like, is Apple scared a little bit?

• 1:06:35Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, I don't... I don't mind that. Like, we can frame it so many different ways. Like, if any other company goes and comes out with a software that looks a little bit janky and we're like, "Whoa, this is bad." And then through three beta updates in three weeks, it suddenly looks way better. We'd all be like, "Oh, nice." They're actually listening to us. But if it's Apple, it's like, "Oh, they're scared." Or, or maybe they're... It kinda, we just frame it a different way.

• 1:06:54David Imel?

The reason is because Apple's the company that always said, "You don't know what you want. We're gonna show you what you want."

• 1:06:58Speaker 01

  That is true.

And then now they're like, listening to people on Twitter, which is the worst possible thing to do. This is actually like, the fact that they have, that they, they backtracked on it at first, and then people... Because, ugh! This is like, the, the perfect encapsulation of the internet, right? They announce something, everyone's like, "It's garbage, it's horrible, it's impossible." So that they're like, "Oh, okay."

• 1:07:18Speaker 01

  Mixed in with legit concerns.

• 1:07:19David Imel?

Change it back, to like, frost it. And then everyone's like, "What the heck? Why did you change it?" I was like, "'Cause you told me to!"

• 1:07:25Speaker 01

Because it's different, it's... I think the, the fallacy that I find online is, uh, because it's coming from the same website, we assume it's all the same people, but it's two different loud groups of people.

• 1:07:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:35Speaker 01

So there's one really loud group that's like, "I hate everything you do, and I just, I saw this thing you came out with and it sucks, so I'm gonna be really loud about how much it sucks."

• 1:07:42Andrew Manganelli?

  And that group is sweet.

• 1:07:43Speaker 01

Yeah. Well, that group's on Twitter, and then they go back and they change it, and they frost it, and now it's like, less liquidy but more readable. And then the other loud group on Twitter is like, "Why are you listening to that other loud group? Like, it was fine. You spent all these years developing this crazy new thing, and you're just gonna listen to a week of tweets and change it back? You're an idiot, what are you doing? So now you're listening to all these loud people on Twitter again."

• 1:08:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:05Speaker 01

And so you're flip-flopping now, and it's just a mess. So they're just gonna make up their mind.

• 1:08:08David Imel?

There was a comment on our YouTube channel a couple weeks ago that said, "This podcast is like, listening to a bunch of, uh, a bunch of Apple fanboys that hate Apple." And I was like, "So we're doing our job." And that's basically the encapsulation of Twitter.

• 1:08:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:08:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:22Andrew Manganelli?

Just leave Apple alone. Just leave them alone. Just leave them alone.

• 1:08:25Speaker 04

Leave my sweet child alone. Question for you.

• 1:08:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:08:28Speaker 04

Do you think that, so here's my conspiracy brain going. I wonder how much of this is just to keep people excited, talking about it. Because in my head, the design of the new OS has probably been done for like a year. Like, I don't know if they're actually going back and forth, changing things this quickly for something that's going to drop to a billion phones, you know?

• 1:08:52Speaker 01

  It is, yeah.

• 1:08:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:54Speaker 01

Here's the thing, it is changing. Like, they're shipping these betas and they are actually shipping to everyone in the developer community, these different versions of it. And I guess if there's a conspiracy world where they have these ready to go to keep people talking about how liquidy it's going to be, to keep them on the internet like talking about it, that could be interesting. But I just think the whole point of the beta is to ship it to the people who will test it and then take the feedback for how well it works, how buggy it is, how legible it's going to be, and then ship another beta that's better, and then take more feedback and ship another beta that's better. And this is them probably working really hard to try to find a balance between all

• 1:09:38Speaker 01

the liquid that they showed and all the concerns that the beta testers have found. And trying to land somewhere in the middle at a reasonable, maybe iconic, maybe they ditch this in two years, but a liquidy, glassy look that defines their next couple of years of software.

• 1:09:57Speaker 04

  iOS 26, already iconic?

• 1:09:59Speaker 01

Already iconic, question mark? Maybe, maybe. I don't regret that title one bit, by the way. So, yeah.

• 1:10:07David Imel?

  To all my haters.

• 1:10:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Ready?

• 1:10:11Speaker 01

  All right. So clown.

• 1:10:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Trivia? Oh, what is it?

• 1:10:14Speaker 01

  Do we have to agree?

• 1:10:15Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:10:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Sam Olman?

• 1:10:19Speaker 01

  Yeah, sure.

• 1:10:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:26Speaker 03

Da, da, da, da, da. What color is that underwater freak's blood? Oh, is that the first one? Yeah. The first question? Is it really not what I think it is? I just wanna say- I think we're about to get three wrong answers because all of you are underestimating how freaky this guy is. I just wanna say that when I thought I was remembering that I just learned this, I actually had just Googled "octopus blood" yesterday, so I'm now back to square one of just guessing.

• 1:10:53Andrew Manganelli?

What would the freakiest color be?

• 1:10:55Speaker 03

  Probably-

• 1:10:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Clear.

• 1:10:56Speaker 03

  Limoncello?

• 1:10:57Speaker 01

That new color that they just like discovered by like beaming lasers into people's eyes.

• 1:11:03Speaker 03

Alright, put these boards, guys. Alright. We all have different colors. Ands, say it. Okay.

• 1:11:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Who? Mark has first.

• 1:11:11Speaker 03

  I said green.

• 1:11:14Andrew Manganelli?

  I said blue.

• 1:11:15Speaker 03

  I said yellow.

• 1:11:18Speaker 03

But, Andrew- Is it purple? You did say the freakiest color would be-

• 1:11:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Clear.

• 1:11:22Speaker 03

Which is the correct answer! These dudes are freaks! Wait, is clear a color? Wow. Oh my god, you're really gonna hit me with that? Yeah! You're really gonna hit me with that right now? I don't think that's even a color.

• 1:11:34Speaker 01

  Nobody got points.

• 1:11:35Speaker 03

What should I have said? What, what, what, what, what Apple design scheme is- What does it look like? What does it look like? You're telling me they bleed liquid glass? You want me to ask, what does a lobster's blood look like inside its body? What kind of question is that? This is a family show.

• 1:11:47Speaker 01

You should have phrased it, "What do lobsters and iOS 26 Beta 4 have in common?"

• 1:11:53Speaker 03

Limoncello. What, what is the opacity slider of lobster blood set at?

• 1:11:58Andrew Manganelli?

And also, crabs also have typically gray or colorless before binding.

• 1:12:03Speaker 03

Colorless? I'm not letting this go, bro. If it's colorless, then it's not a color. Crabs represent order. Clear isn't a color. Lobsters represent chaos. Adam, please read the score.

• 1:12:15Speaker 03

  The score.

• 1:12:17Speaker 04

Marquez with 32, Andrew with 22. Are you giving him that point for saying clear? No. Okay, so now 22. David with 36.

• 1:12:27Speaker 01

  Dang.

• 1:12:27Speaker 04

Nice Swifty reference. Uh, okay, question. 36, dang. Oof, yeah. Let's go. This is it. These are the scores that you guys are going into the trivia extravaganza with, by the way, so no pressure. Do you want me to reread the reviews or do you just want to guess? No, I know what it is. You know what it is? Yeah. Okay. Well, actually, no, do re- do reread it for the audience. Okay, okay, so Wired said, "Positively noted its design, battery life, and performance and stock Android OS, but disliked the camera and built-in speaker." Wait, stock Android OS? Stock Android OS. Oh, no. And Gadget praised its build quality, edge-to-edge display, performance, battery life, and clean build of Android 7.1.1, but criticized the screen's brightness and the lack of a headphone jack.

• 1:13:08Speaker 04

iFixit gave the phone a 1 out of 10 in terms of repairability because it's almost impossible to open without freezing and ultimately breaking it. And then you guys cut me off before Marquez Brown leaves, but I'm not gonna say it because I might give it away.

• 1:13:22Speaker 01

  I gave it an award.

• 1:13:23Speaker 04

7.1? 7.1.1. These are all, like, summarized. Stock Android? On its Wiki, by the way. Dang, I got all excited.

• 1:13:33Andrew Manganelli?

  And it's on the Wiki?

• 1:13:34Speaker 04

On the Wiki, yeah, it says all this. On the Wiki?

• 1:13:36Speaker 01

  My award's on the Wiki?

• 1:13:37Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:13:38Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:13:39Speaker 04

It's the last one, but it is there. Hey, so like the Wikipedia page for this phone? Yes, exactly. Okay, alright.

• 1:13:45David Imel?

What's the title of that Wikipedia page?

• 1:13:48Speaker 04

  Read the URL. Not today!

• 1:13:49Speaker 01

Read the URL real quick, just the HTTP.

• 1:13:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Ow.

• 1:13:53Speaker 04

  Did I review this?

• 1:13:54Andrew Manganelli?

Don't ask a question and I'll just argue about something after.

• 1:13:57Speaker 04

Okay, flip it and read. What do we got? Oh. I can't see Marquez. So Marquez, what did you say? I said the Essential PH1. Andrew?

• 1:14:07Andrew Manganelli?

  The Essential PH1?

• 1:14:09Speaker 04

Correct, you both get it. David, what'd you say? Is that really stock Android? Yeah, that's what- I'm just reading the reviews, man. David, what did- what did you say?

• 1:14:20Speaker 03

  I essentially said something similar.

• 1:14:23Speaker 01

I read your board, David. You had a nexus up there, didn't you?

• 1:14:27Speaker 03

Yeah, cuz he was talking to her. At first, I thought this is gonna be the Galaxy S6, but...

• 1:14:33Andrew Manganelli?

I'm pretty sure the award was like a green marble color.

• 1:14:35Speaker 01

  S6 had a headphone jack.

• 1:14:37Speaker 03

Yes. Guys, more importantly, which of the following lobsters live in US waters? Let's go. A, the spiny lobster, B, the true lobster, C, the squat lobster, or D, the musical furry lobster? Again, A.

• 1:14:52Speaker 01

  Is it real?

• 1:14:53Speaker 03

  US waters.

• 1:14:54Andrew Manganelli?

  US waters.

• 1:14:55Speaker 03

US territorial waters. A, spiny lobster, B, true lobster, C, squat lobster, D, the musical furry lobster. Rock lobster! Rock lobster! Love that song?

• 1:15:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Classic.

• 1:15:08Speaker 03

Classic. Alright, let's hear it, boys.

• 1:15:11Speaker 01

In the cold waters of Maine, we all got the answer, spiny lobster.

• 1:15:14Speaker 03

That is correct. However, the true lobster, it was also a correct answer. I gave you a 50% chance cuz aren't I so kind?

• 1:15:23Andrew Manganelli?

Is a squat lobster a real lobster?

• 1:15:25Speaker 03

Mm-hmm. Those are all real lobsters. They just don't live in the US.

• 1:15:27Andrew Manganelli?

Well, no, I just thought it was...

• 1:15:28Speaker 03

Oh, excellent question. The musical furry lobster is up for debate whether it's a real lobster. It is in the same family as lobsters, but it is not in the same subclass. What part is up for debate? So it's like limes. Like limes. So like, like, like what we... What about limes is up for debate? What we eat, I really... We're at a time crunch, so we're gonna back to this in a minute.

• 1:15:52Speaker 03

Are they actually lemons? The limes we eat in the US, right? Whether those are actually limes or not is up for debate because that lime is a crossbreed between a Persian lime or, yeah, a Persian lime and a lemon, and that's why they don't have seeds. Oh, that's kinda dope. But they're not, they're not like limes. Like, if you were to go to prehistoric era, you would not see those limes.

• 1:16:16Speaker 03

They're just colloquially limes. They're what we know of as, they're what we most commonly sell in the US is limes cuz they're a little less sour, they're a little sweeter, and they have a longer shelf life when, in stores. And so the lobster... So this lobster is like the same type beat where it's like technically it shares enough genetic information with a classical lobster that it's like, this is the lobster, but it also has some funny business thrown in there. Yeah, that's kinda the deep sea.

• 1:16:41Andrew Manganelli?

Squat lobster is not a lobster.

• 1:16:43Speaker 03

  What is it?

• 1:16:43Andrew Manganelli?

It's a nemora. It's more closely resembling a hermit crab.

• 1:16:48Speaker 04

  What's a hermit crab?

• 1:16:49Speaker 01

  A crab?

• 1:16:50Andrew Manganelli?

It's not a crab. It's very confusing. We definitely don't have time for this, but

• 1:16:54Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:16:55Andrew Manganelli?

Yes. I just remember reading a lot about it during the whole lobster crab thing.

• 1:16:59Speaker 01

One last point. Uh, the music, the scientific name for the musical furry lobster is Pelipathus magnificus.

• 1:17:07Speaker 04

  That's awesome.

• 1:17:07Speaker 01

  Which by the way,

• 1:17:09Speaker 04

Sounds like a Harry Potter spell.

• 1:17:09Speaker 01

Magnificent. So they can't be freaky if they're magnificent, you know? Or both, I guess.

• 1:17:14Speaker 04

I just want to say, we keep saying we don't have time for this.

• 1:17:17Speaker 01

  Sorry.

• 1:17:18Speaker 04

All right, that's freaky and magnificent. That's true.

• 1:17:21Speaker 01

Guys, can we? Hey, thanks for watching. Thanks for listening. This has been a fantastic underwater episode of the Waveform Podcast and, uh, and Crown or Clown. We'll be back very soon with a trivia extravaganza.

I also just saw a picture of a hermit crab and without the shell and it's the grossest thing I've ever seen.
