Samsung’s Tri-Fold Phone is Coming!

This week, there is a bunch of news to talk about. Marques, Andrew, and David jump right into the news that ChromeOS is merging with Android before then talking about the new Sony point-and-shoot camera that's going viral for all the wrong reasons. After that, they talk about the Samsung Tri-Folding phone that will likely launch later this year before wrapping it all up with Rivian and Tesla news. Enjoy! Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

  That's J-I-R-A dot com.

• 1:21Speaker 02

David, talk me out of a RICO GR3.

• 1:22Speaker 01

I just, I'm literally on the B&H. Were you looking at my screen?

• 1:26Speaker 02

  No, I was not.

• 1:27Speaker 01

I was literally opening the B&H page for it. I'm gonna not get the HDF one. Does it cost more for that look? You're insane to pay a hundred bucks more for that.

• 1:34Speaker 02

  The GR3 HDF.

• 1:36David Imel?

  What is HDF?

• 1:37Speaker 02

  High Diffusion Filter.

• 1:38Speaker 01

  High Diffusion Filter.

• 1:39David Imel?

  What does that mean?

• 1:39Speaker 02

It just makes it look like a memory.

• 1:42Andrew Manganelli?

It makes it look like you took the camera and went.

• 1:47Speaker 01

That's exactly what it does. And you spent a hundred bucks more for that one. You could just.

• 1:56Speaker 01

Yo, what is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're hosts, I'm Marquez.

• 2:01Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 2:02David Imel?

  And I'm David.

• 2:03Speaker 01

And we're back to our regularly scheduled programming, but I'm only saying that because this Tuesday, a couple of days ago, we went live for our exactly 300th episode, live on YouTube, anyway. Then we published to the feed as well. But if you were there, thanks for hanging out with us. It was a good time. We just talked and chatted for an hour.

• 2:22Andrew Manganelli?

It was chaotic, but very fun. We were only 10 minutes late.

• 2:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, not bad.

• 2:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Not bad.

• 2:28Speaker 01

Not low on levels. It was a good time.

• 2:29Andrew Manganelli?

Also, if you missed it, it probably means you're not subscribed.

• 2:32Speaker 01

  Ooh.

• 2:33David Imel?

And don't have the bell on.

• 2:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 2:35David Imel?

  Bing bing.

• 2:36Andrew Manganelli?

  So what's with that?

• 2:37Speaker 01

So get subscribed. So the next time we go live, which we did have a good time, we might as well do that again at some point. But if we go live again, subscribers will be the first to know that that is happening. This week, though, we've got some more fun stuff. Samsung Trifold, we gotta talk about this interesting rumor. We also have some unboxings to do on this podcast today.

• 2:54David Imel?

  Oh.

• 2:54Speaker 01

We gotta talk about G2, because we always have to talk about G2.

• 2:58David Imel?

  We always have to.

• 3:00Speaker 01

But first, some interesting Google news. Alleged Google news, anyway. Google confirms it's combining Chrome OS and Android into a singular platform.

• 3:10David Imel?

  Yes.

• 3:11Speaker 01

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what that looks like, because I know what Android is.

• 3:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 3:17Speaker 01

And I know what Chrome OS is. And so what device should we want to see both combined into one on? And why would that be a good thing?

• 3:25David Imel?

  Well, glad you asked, Marquez.

• 3:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:28David Imel?

I think in Google's perspective, phones and laptops just sort of need to be one thing. And you can see them doing that, right? In the Android 16, they're making it so you can plug in your phone to a display. You can basically use Chrome, like Chrome OS.

• 3:42Speaker 01

And on Chromebooks, you've been able to run Android apps.

• 3:45David Imel?

  Exactly.

• 3:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:46David Imel?

And so that makes sense for them, because Apple has this very diverse ecosystem of devices. They all mesh well together, and they do that. But Google never wanted to make a Mac competitor OS, even though I wish they would, because it would be great. It'd be great, but they don't want to do that. So I think in their perspective, it makes more sense. To just like make a phone that can be a computer and make a computer that can be a phone. They have said for many years that they're like sharing elements of the kernels with each other to make it so they're more compatible. And over the last couple of years, uh, we see Google pushing uh updates to Chrome OS to kind of like let your messages sync more freely from your phone and let this happen more freely from your phone. Sounds great. It sounds great, but at the end of the day, Chrome OS is still Chrome OS, right?

• 4:29David Imel?

That's like always the thing. It's like the big asterix that's like, okay. And yeah, I can run Android apps on this, but it's still, it's still not really as powerful as like a laptop. But now that phones are becoming laptop powered in a lot of different ways, uh, I think it makes more sense to just combine them. So I don't know if they're gonna like rename this or if they're just gonna still say it's Chrome OS, but it's like running Android. Effectively what happened is that Samir Samat, who is a big, big guy at Google. He confirmed to Tech Radar in an interview that uh they're going to be combining these platforms because he asked the interviewer. Hey, so why are you using an iPhone and a MacBook and AirPods?

• 5:12David Imel?

Like what, what, what is it about those things that you're like, you like better that you can't do on our stuff? And he's like, oh, well, I like the ecosystem. I like that they like work well together. I like it. And he goes, yeah, okay. I guess that makes sense. Yeah. That's why we're like merging our platforms and we're, we're turning them to say, he just like dropped it casually in this interview. Okay. Um, sick. Yeah. So I don't know when this is gonna happen. Obviously it could be a multi-year thing that they've been planning for a very long time. I think everyone kind of anticipated this, but uh, on top of this, there's this big rumor that Google is currently working on a new Pixelbook. There is like a team of people at Google that has been confirmed are working on a new Pixelbook.

• 5:53David Imel?

So it would be very cool if this Pixelbook came out and they were like Chrome OS is dead. Android is just now everything, which I think would make sense for Google. Whoa, never heard of that before. Wild. Yeah. Interesting, okay. Yeah, so it'd be cool if it was just like Android laptop and Chrome OS is just gone. I'm looking forward to a new interesting Pixelbook. That would be fun. The Pixelbook Go was very, very good and very like quite affordable, pretty cheap, very fun.

• 6:20Andrew Manganelli?

What was the really expensive one? Was that just the first?

• 6:23David Imel?

  Chromebook Pixel.

• 6:23Andrew Manganelli?

The Chromebook Pixel, that's what I'm thinking.

• 6:25David Imel?

The first one? Yeah, from back in the day.

• 6:27Andrew Manganelli?

  It looked so cool.

• 6:28David Imel?

It looked like a- It was fire. I loved the way it looked. But it was like more squared off. And it had the RGB lights on it, on the lid? Oh my gosh. Kind of fire. That's why I want to see another like good metal. I love that one.

• 6:39Andrew Manganelli?

The two-tone, that's what I was talking about.

• 6:41David Imel?

Yeah, the second generation Pixelbook that was like insanely thin and had the two-tone, that was awesome. I used that for years. And like the benefit of Chrome OS was that it just keeps getting updated constantly. So it's like, you know, it's kind of limited by the processor, but I never really felt limited, so.

• 6:57Andrew Manganelli?

Well, the, the benefit of changing Chrome OS to Android OS, or whatever we call it, is a bunch of children in schools learning how to use Android before they buy their iPhone and then maybe buy an Android instead.

• 7:09David Imel?

Yeah. Yeah, I mean, if they made it like pair even better with your phone, like it just naturally had all of your files or something like that. If there was some sort of like local file sync, that would be pretty amazing.

• 7:21Speaker 02

Isn't that kind of already what Chrome OS does? Like if you log in with your like Gmail account at school, it'll just have all your Google Drive files.

• 7:28David Imel?

Yeah, I mean, as long as you have literally everything in Google Cloud services.

• 7:33Speaker 02

  Which is what they want.

• 7:35David Imel?

Yeah, if you're a Google guy. Yeah. Big Google guy.

• 7:40Speaker 02

I'm more interested in the Chrome OS part coming to Android, less so that-

• 7:45David Imel?

  Yeah, right.

• 7:46Andrew Manganelli?

What specifically about Chrome OS do you want to come to Android?

• 7:49Speaker 02

The whole plug in your, your phone to a monitor and have a computer. Like that's the part that I'm super hyped on.

• 7:54David Imel?

I'm happy for you, Adam. Like I'm happy for you and I'm happy for all those Dex fans and Android on display fans out there. I'm just like wondering who has a display that is just sitting around where they're like, perfect, time to plug in my phone to a display.

• 8:09Speaker 02

It's, I think a lot of people do. Like, a lot of people go to work and just have like their monitors at work, you know? And then you go home and if, even if you don't have like a home computer type of situation setup, most people have phones. So to not have to buy a whole new computer just for home and just to have your displays and you go from place to place. I mean, this has been the dream for years that everyone has been trying forever. But I think this is finally, potentially, maybe, could happen.

• 8:39Speaker 01

I feel like it's like the dream of a modular phone. Like this dream of one computer for everything also gets resurrected and dies every couple of years.

• 8:48Speaker 02

With so many people working remote now and with how easy the majority, I'm not saying the job is easy, but how easy the compute is on a lot of jobs, like if you're selling insurance or like, there's so many things where you're just on emails and pretty basic like web apps that any phone we have right now could run it no problem. And it'd be super easy.

• 9:08Speaker 04

  Any phone.

• 9:11Speaker 01

  Almost any phone.

• 9:13David Imel?

Yeah. I mean, it would be great if, you know, you could take your Pixel Fold and just be like, small screen, big screen.

• 9:18Speaker 02

Yeah. And I think right now, what's a little weird is that like to have a consistent experience, you have to kind of plug into a monitor, but like there's wireless decks. And if they can get that better and when Google eventually does this, like if it can work wirelessly, you just don't even take your phone out of your pocket. Like that's the dream.

• 9:33David Imel?

That would be the dream. So.

• 9:34Speaker 02

  That's my dream at least.

• 9:36Speaker 01

  Maybe.

• 9:36Speaker 02

  Yeah. Sorry.

• 9:37David Imel?

No, you're good. I was just gonna say it's, it's, it's interesting to see. I'm wondering how, uh, when Google sort of announces this more? And if we're gonna see stuff at the Pixel event potentially that's theoretically happening in August. So.

• 9:50Speaker 02

I was gonna say, maybe you don't leave in your pocket. You put it on your new Qi 2.2 charger.

• 9:54David Imel?

  Oh, shit.

• 9:55Speaker 02

  Segways.

• 9:56David Imel?

  Wow.

• 9:58Speaker 01

  Well played.

• 9:59Speaker 02

  Well, we're getting Qi 2.2.

• 10:02Andrew Manganelli?

  More horns.

• 10:03David Imel?

But where's the Chi 2? Yeah, Chi 2, we did a whole episode about Chi 2 when it first got announced. We did a little deep dive. We did an interview with one of the people at the Wireless Power Consortium about what it is. If you don't know, basically, Apple kind of like, I don't know if donated is the right word, because they probably are going to get something out of it. But they worked with the Wireless Power Consortium to retrofit magnets into the standard. So now MagSafe, it's not the exact same array, I don't believe, but it's basically aligning the phone more directly with the wireless power transfer so that it gets more power through it. This aligns pretty well with the rumor that Apple is going to add 45-watt wireless charging

• 10:45David Imel?

to either the next generation of iPhones or after that with MagSafe. But now, Chi is expanding the standard and we have moved on to Chi 2.2. So do you want to talk about what it adds?

• 10:56Andrew Manganelli?

It basically adds 25-watt charging speeds.

• 10:59David Imel?

  Nice. Which is good.

• 11:01Andrew Manganelli?

  It's awesome, yeah.

• 11:02Speaker 01

Because it was only 15 before.

• 11:03David Imel?

  It was limited to 15.

• 11:04Speaker 01

Chi 2 was 15 watts, yeah.

• 11:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:06Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, and I mean, we still only had it in that one HMD Skyline, and then the iPhone 16s, not the 16e, had Chi 2 support. And then we got into that whole annoying thing of, is it Chi 2 or is it Chi 2 Ready? Which means it can add the accessories with the magnets. Have they changed anything? Can we still confirm it's Chi 2 means magnets? So I guess Chi 2 support would just mean it can take the power but doesn't have the magnets?

• 11:37David Imel?

  Oh, right, because...

• 11:38Andrew Manganelli?

That's the confusing part. And I feel like it's changed.

• 11:41David Imel?

It was regular Chi 2, and then the Chi 2 Ready was the other thing. Chi 2 Ready can be put on a device, meaning it will...

• 11:48Andrew Manganelli?

  An accessory.

• 11:49David Imel?

There will be an accessory that gives it the magnets. So Chi 2 itself requires magnets to say Chi 2 at all, but you can brand something as Chi 2 Ready if you sell an accessory that adds the magnets.

• 12:00Speaker 01

Which is a lot of them just deponiling a magnet case.

• 12:03David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 12:04Speaker 01

  And which is...

• 12:04David Imel?

  Decently useful.

• 12:05Speaker 01

There's also Qi two certified, but like, put it in the file.

• 12:07Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. So what if like, if it has Qi two support or like it's certified Qi two?

• 12:11David Imel?

That's like for chargers and stuff, right?

• 12:13Andrew Manganelli?

But does it have to have? Oh yeah, maybe you're right.

• 12:15David Imel?

  I think that's for chargers.

• 12:16Andrew Manganelli?

But so the iPhone 16, I guess it has the magnets. So it can do that. There's some, so I asked this question because there's also rumors that the Pixel 10 will have Qi two support. But there's no rumors about it necessarily having the magnets. So would that not be Qi two ready? Or does that just mean it can take up to the new, the wireless charging?

• 12:35David Imel?

I think that would be Qi two ready and then Google will probably sell magnet cases, I believe.

• 12:40Andrew Manganelli?

  That'd be my unfortunate guess.

• 12:42David Imel?

Yeah. But after a very long wait, there are finally some companies that are putting out Qi two accessories.

• 12:49Andrew Manganelli?

  2.2 accessories.

• 12:50David Imel?

  2.2 accessories, even better.

• 12:52Speaker 01

  The future is here.

• 12:53David Imel?

Yeah. So Belkin, Anchor and Ugreen all now have products that are Qi two certified for 25 watt Qi two charging. It seems like this is going to be a big push in the next, you know, couple of months because there's all this news coming out. The Qi Twitter account, Qi Power Twitter account just tweeted today as of recording that there is a lot of news coming in about a week. Which to me probably just means that it's going to be not a lot of news. Just be like re clarifying like what happened before and saying there are now products on the market that use this. You can actually go buy it, that kind of thing.

• 13:30Andrew Manganelli?

I just realized, so I screenshotted the tweet from the Qi Power. Remember we were just talking about that one billion engagement tweet? Like how many views this tweet has?

• 13:40David Imel?

  Thirty eight.

• 13:41Speaker 01

I just was like, is that a super early screenshot? So I went to the Qi Power. I went to the Qi Power Twitter and it currently has 58, now 59, thanks to me.

• 13:51David Imel?

  Are we a niche podcast?

• 13:53Speaker 01

Yeah, we are on the bleeding edge, you guys. We're getting those news to you ASAP. Well, yeah.

• 14:00Andrew Manganelli?

I wanted to ask a question though, because I was kind of thinking about this before. If you had to guess, what, what next phone would actually get Qi two support? Like after the HMD Skyline?

• 14:12David Imel?

Some Chinese phone, like an Oppo phone.

• 14:15Speaker 01

  The HMD Skyline 2.

• 14:17Speaker 02

That's actually a really good guess.

• 14:19David Imel?

  That's another guess.

• 14:20Speaker 02

  That's

• 14:21David Imel?

Cause it's been like a year since I came in.

• 14:23Andrew Manganelli?

So I was kind of thinking a Chinese folding phone because I feel like we're getting to the point we keep seeing in all these thin folding phones where like the USB C port almost doesn't fit on the outside anymore.

• 14:33David Imel?

The problem is if you add the magnets, that adds a bunch of extra.

• 14:36Andrew Manganelli?

  That's also very true.

• 14:37David Imel?

So I feel like they would probably do two, two ready.

• 14:40Andrew Manganelli?

  But then you.

• 14:42David Imel?

  Add a case.

• 14:42Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I'm saying it because there would be no USB C port. So then you would have to have a case.

• 14:46David Imel?

Oh, you're saying they're gonna get rid of the USB C port?

• 14:49Andrew Manganelli?

Portless. If they want to make thinner, they can't really go any thinner right now with the USB C port.

• 14:54David Imel?

I don't want something that thin.

• 14:55Speaker 02

What if there's gonna be like a camera bump and a USB C port bump in the future phones? That's actually probably gonna happen.

• 15:01David Imel?

  Wait.

• 15:02Speaker 02

  C port bump?

• 15:03David Imel?

  A USB C for a bump.

• 15:04Andrew Manganelli?

The camera bump just goes up to the top like the, like the S21, S22 where it went into the rails with the camera bump. And then the USB C ports there and the rest of the phone is thinner.

• 15:13David Imel?

So thin that it's like this. And then right, right line gets to the bottom. It just gets a little thicker at the bottom.

• 15:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Or.

• 15:18David Imel?

  That's so unnecessary.

• 15:19Andrew Manganelli?

Cameras are top left, USB sort is bottom right. So it fixes the rock on the table by counteracting itself with an opposite bump on the back.

• 15:28David Imel?

  Or hear me out.

• 15:29Speaker 02

  I hate this.

• 15:30David Imel?

  Two day battery life.

• 15:32Andrew Manganelli?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Two all day. And that's the final offer.

• 15:38David Imel?

You'll have all day battery and you'll like it.

• 15:41Andrew Manganelli?

And we dictate what all day means.

• 15:43David Imel?

Yeah, not a new iOS beta though, because the new iOS beta is trash for battery.

• 15:47Speaker 02

Yeah. If you're using a beta, don't get too excited about that.

• 15:49David Imel?

My phone died yesterday for like the first time in 10 years. It was not good.

• 15:53Speaker 02

  Welcome to Ellis's world.

• 15:55Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Welcome to twice every day for Ellis.

• 15:59Speaker 04

Now I want this to be a recurring segment. So Ellis, what is your battery percentage right now?

• 16:03Speaker 02

And what time of day is it?

• 16:05Andrew Manganelli?

  So it's still under 70?

• 16:06Speaker 04

I have charged my phone already this morning.

• 16:08Speaker 02

  Like.

• 16:09Speaker 04

I woke up, I think I, my phone, yeah, my phone probably came off the charger. I woke up pretty early this morning. So I'm gonna say my phone came off the charger at 7:50 AM. It is currently 11:40 AM and I charged my phone for a little bit, like while we were getting water and stuff. So anyone who want to take.

• 16:26Andrew Manganelli?

  73.

• 16:27Speaker 04

  73.

• 16:28Speaker 02

  68.

• 16:28Speaker 04

  68.

• 16:29David Imel?

  We're guessing.

• 16:30Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 16:30David Imel?

Um, 72. Is it prices right rules?

• 16:34Speaker 04

No, this is just Delta. There's also no price.

• 16:37Andrew Manganelli?

You prices righted me last time we guessed this.

• 16:39David Imel?

  I'm gonna say 70. Six.

• 16:42Speaker 04

  Adam.

• 16:42David Imel?

  Seventy-four, seventy-four, seventy-four.

• 16:43Speaker 02

  Eighty-two.

• 16:44Speaker 04

Uh, Marquez is literally exact. Oh, no, sorry, Marquez. It is sixty-nine.

• 16:49Speaker 04

So, I like that you gave my phone too much credit.

• 16:52David Imel?

  What was your guess, Marquez?

• 16:54Speaker 04

Sixty-eight. Oh, that's crazy. And we're still out here.

• 16:57David Imel?

  You know?

• 16:58Speaker 04

You know what was really funny?

• 16:58David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 16:59Speaker 04

Uh, again, last night, uh, we went to a taping of the acquired podcast.

• 17:04David Imel?

We did shout out to those guys.

• 17:05Speaker 04

And, um, someone, listener on the pod, ran into him there. And he was like, "It's so great to finally meet you, man." And then I pull out the, my phone to like answer a text or something. He was like, "There it is!" I was like, "I can never..."

• 17:18David Imel?

  That was Parker, right?

• 17:19Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah. We're gonna frame that phone when you're done with that. It might be on fire. He said, he was like, he was like, you know, "What are you gonna do with the phone when you get rid of it?" And we were talking about it. I was like-

• 17:29David Imel?

  Don't get rid of it.

• 17:30Speaker 04

"This, this is the most perfect opportunity in my life for a charity auction." Like, "I will never in my life have anything that anyone will actually want like this." And it's not like Apple's gonna give me any money for it.

• 17:42David Imel?

  No, dude.

• 17:43Speaker 04

  So-

• 17:43David Imel?

You know what you need to do? Your estate sale's gonna go hard.

• 17:47Speaker 04

  When I die?

• 17:48David Imel?

  When you die.

• 17:48Speaker 04

  When I die.

• 17:49David Imel?

Keep it until you die, and then I will manage the estate sale.

• 17:53Speaker 04

I, something, if my purple twelve Mini's memory lives beyond mine, I will be-

• 17:59David Imel?

  Like seventy years?

• 18:01Speaker 04

Wrong. But yeah, I know. So, yeah, I think, I think the move is gonna be removing the battery and, uh-

• 18:07David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:07Speaker 04

Charity auction. And maybe you could have a non-functional framed purple twelve Mini.

• 18:12David Imel?

You should just replace the battery.

• 18:13Speaker 04

I have so much- Yeah, I was gonna say- It doesn't matter.

• 18:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:19David Imel?

  Thanks.

• 18:19Speaker 04

Like, my, here. Wow, wow, I completely, now this is the Ellis's Battery Podcast.

• 18:24David Imel?

  I like it.

• 18:24Speaker 04

Let's see what my battery health is at. Yeah.

• 18:26David Imel?

  Oh, no.

• 18:27Speaker 04

  Cause it's high.

• 18:28David Imel?

  Really?

• 18:29Speaker 04

  Uh, it was- Above eighty?

• 18:31David Imel?

I mean, notably, one of the biggest improvements from, in the thirteen Mini from the twelve Mini was that they improved the battery life by like three hours.

• 18:38Speaker 04

  It's eighty-four percent health.

• 18:40David Imel?

  That's-

• 18:40Speaker 04

  That's not very high.

• 18:42David Imel?

  That's not good.

• 18:43Speaker 04

  It's been a while since I got a phone.

• 18:44David Imel?

Not a lot of people's phones are below that.

• 18:46Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I'm sure there's plenty of people out there.

• 18:49Speaker 02

  In the comments.

• 18:50Andrew Manganelli?

I just wouldn't call it high. I just wouldn't call it.

• 18:52Speaker 04

  That's not high.

• 18:53David Imel?

  Comment your battery health.

• 18:54Speaker 04

  That's 85%.

• 18:56Speaker 01

  I mean, I'm not the best answer because I switch phones a lot, but I've, I've, I don't think I've ever gone under 90.

• 19:02Speaker 04

  What?

• 19:02Speaker 01

  90.

• 19:03Speaker 04

I got the battery swapped out in this like a year and a half ago.

• 19:06Speaker 01

Oh, my God. I mean, the thing is also like, a lot of charge cycles.

• 19:12David Imel?

  Did he stutter?

• 19:12Speaker 04

Oh, that's true. A lot of charge, I am.

• 19:15Speaker 01

So, I mean, you have a, it's a small battery to begin with, and then it's a lot of charge cycles. So it will degrade faster because it's more.

• 19:20Speaker 04

And it's like, it's fully dying and fully charging and.

• 19:23David Imel?

Yeah. Oh, that's not great. Between 20 and 80 would last.

• 19:26Speaker 04

That would give me like an hour and a half of battery.

• 19:28David Imel?

  Did I stutter?

• 19:30Speaker 01

  20 to 80 is like a blink.

• 19:32David Imel?

It's like, why even care about your battery health when it only lasts a few hours anyway? It's like, I want to make sure it keeps lasting only a few hours.

• 19:40Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 19:40Speaker 01

That's for sure. Like when you lease an electric car, when you buy an electric car, you're like, oh, I want to only charge to 80 so that I can have it last as long as possible. When you lease it, you're like, go to 100, like, who cares?

• 19:49David Imel?

  Every time, baby.

• 19:51Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's funny. Alright, well.

• 19:52David Imel?

Um, yeah, anyway, we'll see more about this Chi 2 stuff in a week. So I guess maybe next week we'll be able to talk about this.

• 19:58Andrew Manganelli?

Hmm. Do you know what number comes after 2?

• 20:01Speaker 01

  This is so good.

• 20:02David Imel?

  25.

• 20:03Speaker 01

  Is it elite?

• 20:03David Imel?

  This is an elite transition.

• 20:05Andrew Manganelli?

  3, like the Sony RX 1R 3.

• 20:08David Imel?

That wasn't the only transition I ever. I really freaked it up. I'm sorry. Ah.

• 20:14Speaker 04

  I like yours better.

• 20:15David Imel?

  Yes.

• 20:16Speaker 04

I thought we were going to trivia. I was like, where now?

• 20:19David Imel?

  You know, there's another 2?

• 20:20Speaker 04

Trivia. When he said 3, I was like, 3via?

• 20:24David Imel?

3via. Um, okay, new point and shoot camera just dropped.

• 20:29Andrew Manganelli?

  So many questions here.

• 20:30Speaker 01

Did you have a hot take on this? You said this is the best, right?

• 20:33David Imel?

  No.

• 20:33Speaker 01

Who, who's saying this is good?

• 20:36Speaker 01

  Nobody.

• 20:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, wait.

• 20:39David Imel?

  There's the segment.

• 20:39Speaker 01

I thought somebody was saying this is good.

• 20:41Speaker 04

Dude, I do not understand the point of this camera. I, someone who Andrew pointed out in a DM, I didn't give you enough credit, but I did enjoy the previous RX series.

• 20:50Andrew Manganelli?

No, so I kind of messed up. I, you like the RX 100s. I didn't, I didn't even realize the RX 1R 2, because I didn't see the marks on them.

• 20:58Speaker 04

Yeah, the last one from this version was like nine years ago.

• 21:01Speaker 01

It was 2015, it was 10 years ago. So I've been a notable RX100 lover since like the first gen one and now there's been like seven or eight of them or something crazy. That's a 1" sensor, that's smaller, but it has... You can't take the lens off, but it is a zoom lens.

• 21:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 21:17Speaker 01

So it's a nice little pocket zooming little camera. This is a full-frame.

• 21:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 21:23Speaker 01

  Fixed lens prime.

• 21:24David Imel?

Alright, let me give you the ecosystem breakdown.

• 21:26Speaker 01

And nobody said the price yet, I just want to.

• 21:28David Imel?

  Yeah, we'll get to that.

• 21:29Speaker 01

  We'll get to that.

• 21:29David Imel?

We'll get to that, okay. So you've all heard of the Fujifilm X100 series.

• 21:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:35David Imel?

One of the most legendary point-and-shoot camera series available, right? That's APS-C. For listeners, APS-C is smaller than full-frame. Okay. Then, in the other corner, you've got the Leica Q3, which is a Leica, so it's $6,000. That is full-frame point... These are all point-and-shoot cameras, by the way. Fixed lens, point-and-shoot cameras. Leica Q3. Then you've got the...

• 21:57Speaker 04

  Fixed lens prime.

• 21:58David Imel?

  Prime.

• 21:59Speaker 01

  One focal length.

• 22:01David Imel?

Yes, sorry. Fixed lens prime cameras, yes. I got you, Dave. Good job, Al. Okay. And then you've got the Fuji GFX100 RF, which I reviewed a few months ago.

• 22:11Speaker 01

  Medium format?

• 22:12David Imel?

Medium format. Okay. So, the ecosystem of this is limited right now, like, especially before the RF came out. Your only options, I mean, there were some, but kind of your only options was like, "Do I want to get an X100?" There's also, oh, there's also the Ricoh GR3, which is very popular as well.

• 22:34Speaker 01

So when you say ecosystem, you mean there's a certain buyer who is specifically looking for a somewhat compact...

• 22:40David Imel?

  Yes.

• 22:41Speaker 01

  Full-frame...

• 22:42David Imel?

  Well...

• 22:43Speaker 01

  Large sensor, fixed lens.

• 22:45David Imel?

  Mostly fixed lens, compact camera.

• 22:47Speaker 04

Fixed prime lens, and then also I would say high-megapixel. Whether or not the sensor itself is big, all of these cameras have above 30-megapixel.

• 22:55David Imel?

  Basically, it's the like, one...

• 22:57Speaker 04

No, the RX, the X106 does have a 40 megapixel sensor. These are all above 30 megapixel cameras.

• 23:03David Imel?

They're above, yeah, yeah, yeah. So the idea is like, one camera to rule them all, right? Like, there's been so, like, photography is complicated. You don't have to buy, like, $1,000 lenses to just be able to, like, hot swap. You want to be able to have one little thing around your shoulder that you can just carry with you everywhere. And generally, it's been like, well, you can get the X100 for, you know, $1,700, which used to be even cheaper, or you can get the Leica Q3 for $6,000. So there just wasn't a lot in the ecosystem.

• 23:33David Imel?

The Ricoh GR3 came out, and that's sort of like a cult favorite. Anyway, there wasn't a lot in the full-frame market. But 10 years ago, there was the RX1 Mark II, and there was RX1 before that. And that was like Sony's entry, because every camera company sort of needs sort of an option, because the Fuji X100 series was so ridiculously popular that every other company was like, "We have to make our own version."

• 24:01Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 24:02David Imel?

That's basically what spurred Sony to bring it back. So now they're like, "Okay, finally, we're way back after 10 years. The market is here. People finally want this."

• 24:13David Imel?

And so they added the, so, okay, there's so much context. The context of Sony cameras is that there's three versions of Sony cameras. There's the S version, which is low-megapixel, which gives it way better low-light performance, better video specs, because they have to push less data through.

• 24:29Speaker 04

  I like the R.

• 24:30David Imel?

Yeah, we're getting there. There's the regular one, that doesn't have a letter, that is the in-between one. And then there's the R, which stands for resolution. And that's the high-megapixel version. Sony's most recent R camera is the A7R5. Yeah, is 61 megapixels, that sensor 61 megapixels. So they're pushing that into this full-frame point-and-shoot camera. So you're basically getting like, A7R5 specs, sort of, in a compact point-and-shoot body, because Sony realized they needed to do that.

• 25:04David Imel?

The problem is many-fold, except that it doesn't fold, that's one of the problems.

• 25:10David Imel?

  It has no articulating viewfinder.

• 25:12Speaker 01

  Womp womp.

• 25:13David Imel?

Which is like a big problem. Its OVF is like lower resolution than most other cameras.

• 25:20David Imel?

It is 4K at 30 FPS only with video, which is kinda surprising. I'm surprised they're not doing more of that.

• 25:28David Imel?

The biggest problem is it's $5,100.

• 25:30Speaker 01

  Womp womp womp.

• 25:31David Imel?

That is the issue. So, okay.

• 25:32Speaker 01

  Also no IBIS.

• 25:34David Imel?

Also no IBIS. Yeah, and, and, yeah. And a lot of people gave Fuji a lot of crap, including me, for not putting IBIS in the GFX 100RF. And that's a medium format camera. So to not put it in a full frame camera is like, what?

• 25:50Speaker 01

  It's like womp womp.

• 25:52David Imel?

What are you doing? Yes, it's more expensive than the Fuji. And like, people love Fuji because, because of the color science. And like, you can just spit out these film modes. This also has film modes, but they don't really look that good. They don't really look like film. They're just sort of, you know. And, yeah, so I don't know what percentage of this is tariffs? Like tariff based? And what percentage of it is just Sony thinking like, wow, people really love point and shoots right now. We can totally make a lot of money at this.

• 26:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:19David Imel?

Yeah, so it's, there's a lot of drama.

• 26:21Speaker 01

I feel like that's definitely a meeting that happened. They're like, we need an answer to Fuji's success in this vertical.

• 26:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 26:28Speaker 01

There's not a lot of competition in this vertical, so we don't have to be price competitive. We can just make up, we can just make it $5,000 or whatever. But we just need a competitor in this vertical for someone to pick the Sony version.

• 26:37David Imel?

  Yeah, 100%.

• 26:37Speaker 01

And they just made a Sony version.

• 26:39David Imel?

  100%.

• 26:39Speaker 01

And it's not great, but it exists. And you can pick it if you want.

• 26:43Speaker 04

Dude, but if you were like, I want a point and shoot and I, my budget is $6,000. First of all, if you said that to yourself, you could probably see a psychiatrist.

• 26:52David Imel?

  No, I mean.

• 26:53Speaker 04

  Frankly.

• 26:53David Imel?

  Well.

• 26:54Speaker 04

  But.

• 26:55David Imel?

  There are people like that.

• 26:57Speaker 04

If you're gonna spend $6,000 on a camera, you can get so much camera. You know what I mean?

• 27:03Speaker 01

At that point, it's not like, I think people are buying it less about the capability of the camera and more just about like, the feeling of the camera.

• 27:13David Imel?

But that's the opposite. That's the opposite of what Sony is.

• 27:17Speaker 01

  I know, that, I was.

• 27:18David Imel?

Sony is a computer with a lens strapped onto it. That's all it is.

• 27:22Speaker 04

And this camera doesn't even do the computer stuff well. What is it, 5 shots a second burst mode?

• 27:27Speaker 01

  Uh, I don't know, I didn't see that one.

• 27:30Speaker 04

  It, that's what it's like.

• 27:32Andrew Manganelli?

No, I feel like this, all the Sony like A series also are just like, these are, these have crazy specs on them. They're really good cameras. They create like really good pictures, but like when you immediately compare this to Fuji, I was like, I had so much fun taking the X100S out to Wildwood because it's just fun to shoot on and all the film things are fun. And it's like, it's an experience where like Sony, I just think of it as like, yeah, I want the sickest, like high resolution photo possible.

• 28:01David Imel?

Sharpest lenses because they own Zeiss.

• 28:02Andrew Manganelli?

And a thousand frames a second and like, like sports photography.

• 28:06Speaker 01

Shoot at ISO 10 million for no reason. Yeah.

• 28:10Andrew Manganelli?

It's like the RTX 5090 versus.

• 28:13David Imel?

Right. It's like the scientist versus the artist, right? It's, it's very much that. So.

• 28:17Andrew Manganelli?

So it feels like a weird spot to be jumping.

• 28:19David Imel?

Yeah. And like the, a lot of people, including me, were saying on the RF, the GFX100 RF, if you're, you know, if you're, it's, it's too close to the Leica in price. When the Leica, the Leica, by the way, has IBIS, so there's that. It is also 60 megapixels. So it's like, you know, it's not like the Sony is way higher on.

• 28:40Speaker 04

  Does the Leica have autofocus?

• 28:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 28:42Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 28:42David Imel?

The, yeah, the Q3. The Q3 is an F1.7 lens. So it's like even faster than the Sony, which is F2. It's 28 millimeter instead of a 35 millimeter. It's just like, I, Sony's core competency has always been, as you said, Andrew, like specs, resolution.

• 28:59Speaker 01

There's another product like this, so funny where it's like, you see the new version as a competitor and it just makes you want to buy this. Seeing this camera just makes me go, I should get a Leica Q3.

• 29:09David Imel?

No, 100%. Like I was telling a friend yesterday, like this camera makes the RF seem like a steal at $4,900. And it makes the Q3 seem reasonable, um, which is wild. So I don't really know what Sony was thinking here.

• 29:23Speaker 01

Wow. The Leica shoots 8K30. That's crazy.

• 29:25David Imel?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 29:26Speaker 01

Yeah, man. I'm gonna get the Leica then.

• 29:31Speaker 01

This camera doesn't really make a ton of sense to me.

• 29:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 29:33Speaker 04

Is there a person, is there really a person out there whose camera budget is that high? And their number one priority is pocketability? Like, that's the only thing this camera has going.

• 29:44David Imel?

Dude, I've hung, okay, I've hung out at the Leica store in New York before. There are people that walk in and just like, yeah, I don't know. I was like, thinking maybe I should have a camera to carry around with me. Like, what is that? And they're like, oh, that's the Q3. And they're like, okay, I'll take it.

• 29:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 29:58David Imel?

And then they just pay $6,000.

• 30:00Speaker 01

Unfortunately, that person exists in every hobby and it's really frustrating. People in the hobby that exist in watches, that exist in cars. People walk into that.

• 30:07Speaker 04

Oh, well, we, we know someone who does it in watches for sure. Not going to say their name out loud, but it rhymes with, it rhymes with Sark Suckerberg.

• 30:16David Imel?

  Oh, Sark Sucker.

• 30:18Speaker 01

Well, Zuck picked up the CT5V Blackwing and probably just walked in the dealership and was like, people like this one? I'll take three.

• 30:25David Imel?

There's also like no culture around Sony. There's, there's culture around Leica. There's culture on.

• 30:31Speaker 01

There is some enthusiast culture with Sony, I think.

• 30:35Speaker 04

  Now it's like the creator.

• 30:36Andrew Manganelli?

I feel it's like creator YouTube.

• 30:39David Imel?

But they all hate each other. All they do is argue on threads. None of them are hanging out.

• 30:46Speaker 04

I, I, as someone who was very skeptical of Sony cameras and just had my first weekend with one, they're pretty.

• 30:52Andrew Manganelli?

  I love them.

• 30:52David Imel?

  Ellis.

• 30:53Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 30:53David Imel?

With all due respect, you're using like a 15 year old one.

• 30:56Speaker 04

No, I'm using a Mark III, an A7.

• 30:58Andrew Manganelli?

  It's pretty old.

• 30:59Speaker 04

  It's 2018.

• 31:00Andrew Manganelli?

We got the, that close to when I started working here.

• 31:03Speaker 01

  That's 20 years ago.

• 31:06Speaker 01

  It feels like it though.

• 31:07David Imel?

  I'm just saying.

• 31:07Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or not.

• 31:10Speaker 04

You guys know that the year three was 2022 years ago, man?

• 31:14David Imel?

  Wow, yeah. Oh, yeah.

• 31:19Andrew Manganelli?

I just have to find this curious, David, because I just found a tweet from six years ago. Of you saying they should make a Sony RX100 III. And now you don't seem to like it.

• 31:27David Imel?

That's not wrong, though. This is the thing, people have been saying this for the last few years, ever since the X100 got so popular. But then they dropped it at $5,100 with no articulating.

• 31:38Speaker 01

If they were to redo this the Sony way, what I would have expected from an RX on Mark III, RX 1 on Mark III, yeah, it would be like, oh, it has a super fast, great autofocus. They went f 1.6 just to beat them. They went like slightly undercutting in price and more megapixels. And they added a bunch of functions that the others didn't have, so they claim theirs is better.

• 31:55David Imel?

  Hundred percent.

• 31:56Speaker 01

And it seems like they didn't do it the Sony way.

• 31:58David Imel?

It's not better than literally any other camera.

• 32:01Speaker 01

  It's weird.

• 32:01David Imel?

So it's in its category. So I just don't understand. Yeah, I don't know. It's weird.

• 32:08Speaker 01

Can't wait for the Sony engineers to hit us up.

• 32:10David Imel?

Welcome to my rant. Um, yeah, they will. They'll be mad at me. I'm sorry, but I'm also not. So, okay. Um, well, speaking of, uh, really fast.

• 32:21Speaker 04

Hold on, hold on. I just, I gotta hop in here real quick because I'm, I just wanna say.

• 32:25David Imel?

  Sorry, okay.

• 32:25Speaker 04

You guys are right. You know, this is an eight-year-old camera. It's not exactly a new camera.

• 32:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 32:30Speaker 04

But when you pull up the side-by-side specs.

• 32:33Speaker 01

  It's a good camera.

• 32:34Speaker 04

  They are identical. Like.

• 32:35Speaker 01

Which camera? You have an A7 Mark III?

• 32:37Speaker 04

  A7, uh, you have an A7 R3. It's R Mark III.

• 32:41Speaker 01

  Oh, you have a R?

• 32:42Speaker 04

  It's like 42 megapixels.

• 32:44David Imel?

  Oh, you've been using an A7 R3?

• 32:45Speaker 04

  Yes.

• 32:46David Imel?

  Oh, I'm sorry. I totally.

• 32:47Speaker 04

No, no. It is still. Cameras do not improve. Look, they have the same burst rate. They have almost the same sensor. The, with slightly bigger light buckets on the three.

• 32:57David Imel?

  Yep.

• 32:58Speaker 04

Uh, you do get 20 extra megapixels, which is not nothing in the newest one.

• 33:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:02Speaker 04

But other than that, like same base ISOs, like, like it is functionally. Uh, the buffer size is way bigger on the five. Duh.

• 33:11David Imel?

  Yeah, data storage.

• 33:12Speaker 04

But the image engine is, I don't know. Anyway, let's just, you know, you wanna transition? You know what you guys don't know?

• 33:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:19Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 33:20David Imel?

What if we know it, though?

• 33:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:22Speaker 04

This is an exciting question. Uh, I'm, I, I, sometimes these are really risky ones because it's really open-ended. But I think we're gonna have some fun with this one. And this is, we're talking about Chi 2.2, which anytime I hear you guys say that, there's like a famous Fred Astaire song from a movie in the late twenties, early thirties.

• 33:40David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:40Speaker 04

That has a song called Dancing Cheek to Cheek. And so I always just hear Dancing Chi to Chi.

• 33:46Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 33:46Speaker 04

  That's awesome.

• 33:48Speaker 01

This setup was crazy for that.

• 33:51David Imel?

Can we make like a, an album where we just remix like old songs as tech songs?

• 33:56Speaker 04

Yeah, but they all have to be crooner songs.

• 33:58David Imel?

  What does that mean?

• 33:59Speaker 04

  Uh, whatever.

• 34:03Andrew Manganelli?

That means you don't want to know the answer.

• 34:05Speaker 04

Guys, I would like you guys to name every company that you can think of. So there's lots of points up for grabs. It's gonna take a while. Period. Name every company.

• 34:18David Imel?

  Oh, you like capitalism?

• 34:22Speaker 04

Every company you can think of that released a product that had Chi in it before Apple. Oh. Not including.

• 34:31Andrew Manganelli?

Just the whole company, not the product?

• 34:33Speaker 04

The whole company, you don't have to name the product, but the product that they released did have to be sold in the US. So I will not. So like, for example, I'm just. What if it was sold at B&H? Cause like, for example, Sony. Yeah. So, but like Sony phones are only sold at B&H in the US and Asus phones are also only sold at B&H in the US. Correct. I will accept those and I'm just, I'm just gonna spoil one of the answers here. Like, for example, I will accept HTC because HTC's 2012 phone with Chi was sold in the US. I will not accept Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi. I just don't want to do that research right now and I will have to fact check a lot of your answers. I have a pretty comprehensive list up, but.

• 35:15Speaker 04

I will also have, I will, if you, if you want me to fact check them, I'll give you a model name for any of the ones you're not sure about. Just because I know what I'm talking about.

• 35:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Can I?

• 35:23Speaker 04

  I love this.

• 35:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Throw something in there?

• 35:24Speaker 04

  Sure.

• 35:25Andrew Manganelli?

You should get a, get a point off if it doesn't have it because I could just right now start listing every company I know.

• 35:33Speaker 04

Yeah. You just got a point. Oh God, okay. Um, and then also wireless charging is not what I said. I said Chi. Oh, interesting. So I forgot resonance, resonance, resistance. You know what I'm talking about? No, no, it's like resonance, but with a Z and no O. It's like, it was the thing that predated. Charging standard. Yeah, that lost. Betamax? Betamax. Yeah, exactly. I won't accept that. Anyway, so start to think, um, by the way.

• 36:04Speaker 04

Even though this is not a product sold, I will accept there are a handful of businesses which in the US incorporated Chi into their hard, their physical like locations, like their brick and mortar locations. I will accept those answers.

• 36:18Speaker 01

That's a good, I like that. Okay. All right. Well, the answers will be at the end like usual. We'll write these down and we'll be right back.

• 38:54Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. There's been this rumor that Samsung is working on a trifold and that it's maybe coming out this year.

• 39:00Andrew Manganelli?

Do you remember when they're like?

• 39:01Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 39:01Andrew Manganelli?

First, do you remember they put that timeline up about the XR glasses and then just completely skipped over that there's a trifold in there?

• 39:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:09Andrew Manganelli?

That's when we first kind of saw.

• 39:10Speaker 01

During the last unpacked before this one that just happened, right?

• 39:15Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the one at the beginning of this year.

• 39:18Speaker 01

Yeah. So the rumors have continued to come out and I think now it's confirmed because TM Ro just was talking about that they're working on a trifold. So there's some new quotes and.

• 39:29Andrew Manganelli?

He said, I expect we will be able to launch the trifold phone within this year.

• 39:33Speaker 01

Yeah, so now we're full on trying to figure out what to expect, what it is, how it will trifold. That's actually kind of the biggest question is how will it trifold? Because there's more than one way to do. They already showed an animation of how it trifolds.

• 39:45Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, Mark hasn't seen this yet.

• 39:46Speaker 01

  Oh, you haven't seen it?

• 39:47Andrew Manganelli?

So, so Android Authority found some animations in one UI 8, I think.

• 39:53Speaker 01

  My alma mater.

• 39:55Andrew Manganelli?

And two of them kind of show, I have them up here, we'll put them on the screen and I'll try to describe them for audio listeners. The first one is an animation or just a photo from behind the phone. So say you opened it all open and you would be looking at the backside. The left panel.

• 40:12Speaker 01

What is technically behind when it's?

• 40:14Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it is confusing. So like if you were looking at the fully open screen, the back part of that.

• 40:19Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 40:19Andrew Manganelli?

So on the left panel, you have the camera bump. On the middle panel, you have the front screen and on the right panel, you have a blank, no screen at all.

• 40:28Speaker 01

A backing of one of the sides. This is like a Mobius.

• 40:33Andrew Manganelli?

I just want to see like, yeah, so what are your thoughts here before we go to the animation that might show it a little bit after this?

• 40:38Speaker 01

I'm trying to figure, so this is gonna have.

• 40:41Andrew Manganelli?

  It's middle out.

• 40:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Thank you.

• 40:45Speaker 01

  Cause the back has to.

• 40:46Andrew Manganelli?

  From a few weeks.

• 40:46Speaker 01

There's no, so the camera's not going to fold onto the front screen, so it has to fold the other way. And so then the other side folds.

• 40:55Speaker 01

  That's.

• 40:56David Imel?

So the Huawei, the Huawei, remember, did that thing where it's sort of like.

• 41:00Speaker 01

  Like the outside.

• 41:01David Imel?

It goes like, it goes like a Z.

• 41:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:03David Imel?

Does that, and it's always weird because when you're like opening and closing it, you, you almost break it every time because you.

• 41:08Speaker 01

  Cause you fold it backwards.

• 41:09David Imel?

Yeah. This one goes the natural way. So I believe the idea is because it's so thin, you're actually, the, the hinge that the back closes over the middle part on.

• 41:20Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 41:20David Imel?

  Is like.

• 41:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:21David Imel?

  Thick enough.

• 41:22Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 41:22David Imel?

So you can actually just sort of like double fold them.

• 41:25Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 41:25Andrew Manganelli?

The reason we know this is because there's another animation that one of them is specifically a UI element or like an instruction that the phone will vibrate and send an alert if, so when the phone is open, both the outsides fold into the middle. Which obviously means it has to be kind of offset in order to do that. So if you fold the camera on the right side in first, the camera would be facing the screen that's going to fold on top of it.

• 41:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Don't do that.

• 41:51Speaker 01

  Alert.

• 41:52Andrew Manganelli?

You might break it, so an alert's gonna pop up.

• 41:54Speaker 01

I hope all you audio listeners can visualize this in your.

• 41:56Andrew Manganelli?

  It's.

• 41:56Speaker 01

  I was gonna say.

• 41:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Not too hard.

• 41:58Speaker 01

Visualizing things in 3D space is the reason I failed organic chemistry.

• 42:01Andrew Manganelli?

I think this is easier than when we were trying to describe the Huawei one. Because this is just, imagine, uh, opening like a, a menu, right? Like you open it and you're holding the two sides and there's one flat piece in front of you.

• 42:14Speaker 01

Or if you ever did the science fair as a kid, I know some of you guys are like me and you had the tri board or whatever.

• 42:20David Imel?

  The tri fold.

• 42:20Speaker 01

And the middle was like, you had the middle and then each side folded.

• 42:23David Imel?

  Yeah, middle out.

• 42:24Speaker 01

In front, and so you'd fold them both the same way.

• 42:26Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 42:27Speaker 01

  I guess that's cool.

• 42:28Andrew Manganelli?

If it's, they'll fold on top of each other. Yeah. So if you look, if you scroll down a little bit, there's one more, um, in the animation of, uh, one UI eight. Look really closely at the hinges at the bottom of this picture.

• 42:40Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 42:41Andrew Manganelli?

One is larger than the other one.

• 42:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:43Andrew Manganelli?

So the left side will fold in first and then the right side, which at this point has the camera bump on the back, folds on top of that.

• 42:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:50Andrew Manganelli?

And that back of the left side is a blank face.

• 42:53Speaker 01

Yeah. This is good, good detective work. I wonder, so.

• 42:58Speaker 01

Is the fact that this is more intuitive going to matter to regular people when they go to like, look at it in a store? Because if you have a phone sitting in front of you, I mean, because I'm thinking about like, how are they gonna sell this? It's gonna be very expensive. It's gonna be maybe in some stores, but it's a Samsung phone, so Samsung is gonna try to move these. Is the fact that these move in a maybe slightly more intuitive way a big part of why they did it like this?

• 43:21David Imel?

Yes. Yeah, I think that like, to get regular people to not break them, yes. The intuitiveness of people who buy the phone, like the old lady at the airport, right? You know, not able to use her S Pen anymore.

• 43:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 43:36David Imel?

She, she, it's gonna be nicer for her because she could probably not use the Huawei one. She would probably break that pretty quickly.

• 43:43Andrew Manganelli?

The Huawei one is confusing. This, I'm wondering, you know, we saw all the thinness of the latest Fold 7. It would make sense of being able to make one hinge slightly bigger. We also know that a lot of these folding screens, when the hinges close, they kind of give themselves some room to curve a little more.

• 44:00David Imel?

  Buffer space.

• 44:00Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, so it's not folding quite at like, creasing on top of each other. So this gives it more room actually to fold inside of it.

• 44:07David Imel?

I would also not be surprised if they use the same like, sort of micro teardrop technology that Motorola used in the Razer, where the screen sort of like teardropped inside the hinge.

• 44:17Andrew Manganelli?

  And like shifts almost.

• 44:18David Imel?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 44:20Andrew Manganelli?

The thing about it is though, I don't care how many warning signs you have about this, someone is going to fold this the wrong way, right side in first. If I think of a menu, I almost always think about having the top part fold out left first, then to the right, which this is actually not.

• 44:36David Imel?

I mean, it would be nice, they're, okay, this is insanely pure speculation.

• 44:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Almost all of this is.

• 44:42David Imel?

Yes, it would be cool if there was some sort of mechanism, mechanical mechanism, where you have to have folded the left half first in order for the right to even budge.

• 44:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Like unlock.

• 44:52David Imel?

There was some sort of little micro lock system in there.

• 44:55Andrew Manganelli?

That would be cool. I wonder if you, you could though, set this up on a table like Mark has us saying, like a science fair poster?

• 45:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 45:02Andrew Manganelli?

And have like, your whole thing sitting.

• 45:04David Imel?

  Dude, 100%.

• 45:05Andrew Manganelli?

  That's pretty sick.

• 45:06David Imel?

And Chrome and Android are merging.

• 45:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 45:09David Imel?

  The future is-

• 45:10Speaker 02

  It's happening.

• 45:10David Imel?

  It's happening!

• 45:12Speaker 01

I got a breaking news for you guys.

• 45:14Speaker 02

  Oh no.

• 45:15Speaker 01

This just got, just, just hit my inbox.

• 45:17Speaker 02

  Oh no.

• 45:17Speaker 01

Uh, new Google Pixel event. August 20th.

• 45:23David Imel?

  Ah!

• 45:24Speaker 01

  August 20th, it's happening.

• 45:25Speaker 02

  Put it on my calendar.

• 45:26Speaker 01

  It's made by Google.

• 45:27David Imel?

  Is it in New York?

• 45:28Speaker 01

Uh, let's see, my event says Brooklyn.

• 45:32David Imel?

Yes, let's go. Oh, I just got the email too.

• 45:34Speaker 02

Are we allowed to say this on the podcast?

• 45:35David Imel?

Oh no, I didn't, sorry, that was Megan Fox. Megan Fox emailed me again.

• 45:40Speaker 02

She's emailing you about the Pixel 10? To hell, Google, where's my email?

• 45:43Speaker 01

  I just dropped-

• 45:44David Imel?

Yeah, I actually didn't get an email.

• 45:45Speaker 01

Dropping a little tweet real quicks just to-

• 45:47David Imel?

  That's cool.

• 45:47Speaker 01

  Laugh on the podcast.

• 45:48David Imel?

So, I'm guessing we're getting the 10s and then maybe the laptop-

• 45:52Speaker 02

Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Pixel 10 Trifold. Pixel 10 Trifold.

• 45:58David Imel?

  Pixel Laptop 10-

• 45:59Speaker 02

Pixel 10 Laptop Pro Book Pro.

• 46:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 46:02Speaker 02

  Ultra.

• 46:02David Imel?

Oh, there are new, this is not even a joke. There are new Pixel Bud Pros coming out that are apparently quite expensive.

• 46:09Speaker 01

  You know what's crazy?

• 46:10Speaker 02

  Interesting.

• 46:10Speaker 01

I land back from China the day before this.

• 46:14Speaker 02

Oh my- That's the first thing I looked at when you said that date.

• 46:17David Imel?

  You're gonna be jet lagged.

• 46:18Speaker 02

  Let's go!

• 46:19Speaker 01

I'm ready, I'm gonna just jump right back into the thick of it.

• 46:21David Imel?

Just stay in my cellar with me, I've got space.

• 46:23Speaker 02

This is a good time to say that there will be multiple weeks in August where Marquez is out.

• 46:28David Imel?

  Oh yeah.

• 46:29Speaker 01

  Is this a good time?

• 46:30Speaker 02

  Playing the ultimate.

• 46:30Speaker 01

This is probably a good time, so-

• 46:32David Imel?

  We're getting a divorce.

• 46:33Speaker 01

Yeah. I might have, do we mention this a couple of months ago that I'm, I'm playing on the Team USA World Games team? I think we've said that before. Uh, that has involved several training camps and several practice weekends leading up till now, but the, the tournament itself, the World Championships, is in Chengdu, China, and it's two weeks long, and it is in August, and I will miss two rounds of trivia questions.

• 46:59Speaker 02

  Maybe three.

• 47:00Speaker 01

Yeah, maybe three, but definitely two podcast episodes, so, uh, I'll be coming back right as the Pixel event happens. Sick.

• 47:08Speaker 02

  Perfect.

• 47:09Speaker 01

Well yeah, that's just your pre-forewarning, that doesn't mean the episodes will be any less bangers, that just means I will have to be sent to trivia questions somehow, so I can make sure I get my answers.

• 47:18Speaker 02

With the time difference and everything. I was kinda thinking if like, we hit you up for like, a five-minute recap of how the day went. Like, oh, we lost this game, we won this game, like, your little report from China.

• 47:29Speaker 01

Yeah, maybe, that'd be fun, it's definitely gonna be- A lot of work and 12 hour time zone difference is a challenge, but we we may overcome it. It may be fun.

• 47:37Andrew Manganelli?

What if we just brought you in remote live?

• 47:40David Imel?

Yeah, you just stay up until 3am.

• 47:42Speaker 01

We have to pick a crazy hour for you guys. It would have to be crazy for you.

• 47:45Andrew Manganelli?

Why does that have to be crazy for us?

• 47:46Speaker 01

Like if it's a normal hour for me.

• 47:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Who are we?

• 47:49Speaker 01

  It's a crazy hour.

• 47:50Andrew Manganelli?

Wow, you care about your team more than us.

• 47:51Speaker 01

It's definitely gonna be tough to be up for both hours.

• 47:54David Imel?

  This team. Come on.

• 47:57Speaker 01

What if I just don't sleep?

• 47:59Andrew Manganelli?

No, you should sleep. You should sleep. I don't want you to even joke about that.

• 48:03Speaker 02

Have you ever been to China before?

• 48:05Speaker 01

  I have not.

• 48:06Speaker 02

Is this gonna be your first time?

• 48:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:07Speaker 02

  Oh, that's cool.

• 48:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:08Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 48:09David Imel?

I will say, uh, at least it usually takes two days for the jet lag to hit.

• 48:13Speaker 01

It took me two days for Japan, so I think it's gonna take me at least two days for for China.

• 48:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 48:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 48:19Speaker 02

You know, there's apps where you can like change and shift your sleep schedule.

• 48:23Speaker 01

Yeah, but that starts to that starts to mess up my schedule here.

• 48:27Speaker 02

Yeah, but only for like a couple of days.

• 48:28Speaker 01

I just need to sleep on the flight. Basically.

• 48:32David Imel?

  Okay, you can do that.

• 48:33Speaker 01

Yeah, for like way more than a normal sleep.

• 48:37Speaker 02

We'll just give you a lot of sleeping pills.

• 48:40Speaker 01

I'll figure out. I'll figure out a way to sleep on the flight. Yeah.

• 48:43Speaker 02

  Can we have price guesses?

• 48:45David Imel?

  Twenty five hundred.

• 48:46Speaker 01

  Twenty five?

• 48:46David Imel?

Or twenty seven, probably twenty five.

• 48:47Speaker 01

  For the tri-fold?

• 48:49Speaker 02

  For the tri.

• 48:49Andrew Manganelli?

Twenty seven ninety nine wouldn't surprise me.

• 48:51David Imel?

  They just made the bi-fold.

• 48:54Speaker 01

  Two thousand to start.

• 48:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, yeah.

• 48:56David Imel?

  Twenty seven.

• 48:56Speaker 04

This thing is gonna be three thousand dollars, dude.

• 48:59David Imel?

  That would be crazy!

• 49:01Speaker 04

Yeah, it's gonna be three grand.

• 49:02David Imel?

  That would be crazy!

• 49:03Speaker 01

It's definitely gonna be three grand.

• 49:04Speaker 04

  I know.

• 49:04David Imel?

  Okay, twenty seven ninety nine.

• 49:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Huh?

• 49:06Speaker 01

How much is a one terabyte fold?

• 49:08Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, how much is the the excess, the meat excess, meat?

• 49:14David Imel?

That's like three, that's three thousand dollars.

• 49:15Speaker 02

You can't get it here, so I don't know.

• 49:16David Imel?

It was the equivalent of like three thousand, yeah.

• 49:19Speaker 01

Yeah. At this very moment, a one terabyte Z Fold 7 is two thousand four hundred twenty dollars.

• 49:25David Imel?

It's gonna be three K or twenty seven ninety nine. Um, but imagine, just imagine, just imagine for a sec, dragons.

• 49:35David Imel?

  If.

• 49:36Speaker 01

  Where?

• 49:37David Imel?

If you had one of those little foldable keyboards and then you also had a little stand. And you would just have a laptop with you all the time.

• 49:46Speaker 01

  Yeah, I don't know.

• 49:47David Imel?

  It's so cool.

• 49:48Speaker 01

  It's happening.

• 49:49David Imel?

  And it runs Chrome OS?

• 49:50Speaker 01

It is gonna be funny because they're gonna have to ju- this is the first, maybe not the first, but this is gonna be interesting seeing Samsung have to justify the tri-fold over the dual-fold, which means they're gonna have to show examples of things that you want the tri-fold for that they wouldn't have already shown us for the dual-fold.

• 50:05David Imel?

  Using it as a laptop.

• 50:06Speaker 01

  Like Dex? Like.

• 50:09David Imel?

Like, I don't see the value with the bifold really at all, especially if this exists.

• 50:13Speaker 01

Well, only being cheaper. I mean, if you want an eight-inch screen in your pocket, this, you know, fold, Z Fold 7 is gonna be that. If you want, what is this? This will be like a

• 50:22David Imel?

  10-inch.

• 50:22Speaker 01

10-inch diagonal tablet in your pocket or something like that.

• 50:26David Imel?

  It's not bad.

• 50:26Speaker 01

  Then this is that.

• 50:28David Imel?

  Which is what everyone wants.

• 50:29Speaker 01

If someone's spending $2,000 for the regular fold.

• 50:32David Imel?

  They're gonna get this.

• 50:33Speaker 01

  They're gonna get the three.

• 50:33David Imel?

  They're gonna spend an extra.

• 50:34Speaker 01

Yeah, they're gonna, they'll spend the extra. If you're Samsung, that's why it makes sense to come out with this and, and test those markets and figure out if that's true or not and see how many people convert.

• 50:42David Imel?

  That's true for me.

• 50:43Speaker 01

But, yeah, it's, it's not gonna be cheap. That's for sure.

• 50:45David Imel?

  For my blue bubble homies.

• 50:47Speaker 04

  The name got rumor leaked.

• 50:49Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, we skipped past that part. Did you see?

• 50:52Speaker 04

Yeah, the G, the Samsung G Fold.

• 50:54Speaker 01

  Galaxy G Fold.

• 50:56Speaker 04

  Galaxy G Fold.

• 50:56Speaker 01

  Is what I called it.

• 50:57Speaker 04

I think Samsung has the potential to do something hilarious here because Samsung translates in Korean to three stars. And one of the most hilariously named cars in the world is the Ferrari La Ferrari, the Ferrari La Ferrari. So Samsung could potentially call this the Samsung, the Samsung. And it would pay homage to the, both the three stars and the company's name and the three... Guys, this was a joke I said I was gonna tell and I said you just have to laugh.

• 51:29David Imel?

That's really good. Ironically, uh, this should be the Z Fold because it actually, it actually is a Z.

• 51:37Speaker 04

That is so much funnier than what I just said.

• 51:39Speaker 01

  That is so true.

• 51:40David Imel?

They should've called the other one the C Fold or something. Or like the V Fold.

• 51:44Speaker 01

  The L Fold.

• 51:45David Imel?

They could've called it the V Fold.

• 51:46Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 51:46David Imel?

  V.

• 51:48Speaker 01

  Damn, it's too late now.

• 51:49Speaker 04

  But then, yeah.

• 51:50Andrew Manganelli?

  It's not really a V though, because it's.

• 51:53Speaker 04

  No, no, no.

• 51:53David Imel?

  No, the current fold.

• 51:54Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, the current fold. Oh, yeah.

• 51:56David Imel?

The V fold, and this literally could be the Z.

• 51:58Speaker 04

The U or the U fold.

• 52:00Andrew Manganelli?

Did they do? Oh, yeah, these. Yeah, the Huawei. I keep forgetting. Mate XS?

• 52:06David Imel?

  XS.

• 52:07Andrew Manganelli?

  XS is the trifold?

• 52:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 52:09Andrew Manganelli?

That, that does make a Z. I thought they always did it because the two folds next to each other made the Z.

• 52:15Speaker 04

  No.

• 52:15Andrew Manganelli?

But they called it that before they did the flip.

• 52:17Speaker 04

They named it that because you have an excess of screens.

• 52:20Andrew Manganelli?

  But it's a Z.

• 52:22David Imel?

  Yeah, I know.

• 52:23Speaker 04

No, I'm talking about the Huawei.

• 52:24David Imel?

  The Huawei.

• 52:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 52:25David Imel?

All right, we're off the rails.

• 52:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 52:27David Imel?

  Anyway.

• 52:27Andrew Manganelli?

Well, it was just enough time for Adam to get the thing we forgot, so.

• 52:30David Imel?

Really funny joke, Ellis. Now, as we move on to Adam's.

• 52:36Speaker 04

You could say that joke was.

• 52:39Speaker 04

  Classic.

• 52:40David Imel?

  Ayo!

• 52:41Speaker 01

We would say that because it's a good transition to the unboxing that Adam's about to do. Adam, what are you holding right now?

• 52:48Speaker 02

  The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.

• 52:50Speaker 01

  Is that right?

• 52:51Speaker 02

  This is, this is it.

• 52:52Speaker 01

Are you a potential candidate to buy a watch like this?

• 52:55Speaker 02

Um, probably not, because I no longer have a Samsung phone. But.

• 53:00Speaker 01

  For now.

• 53:00Speaker 02

I'm excited to, yeah, for now. I'm excited to, to see what it is, like how it looks and feels.

• 53:05Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 53:06Speaker 02

  Here we go.

• 53:07Andrew Manganelli?

There you go. Why, why you do this, I'm just gonna. Well, I don't think the audio listeners want to listen to that. Someone on our podcast or on our subreddit posted the spec comparison between the Watch 7 and the Watch 8, just the regular ones. It is exactly the same, minus a like 0.2 gram difference. And obviously, the like cushion design is very funny. But you can buy a Watch 7 right now for 150 bucks on Amazon.

• 53:36David Imel?

  Wow.

• 53:36Andrew Manganelli?

That's a crazy deal, especially because it's the exact same specs.

• 53:41David Imel?

And how much is the Watch 8?

• 53:43Andrew Manganelli?

  The Watch 8 is what?

• 53:45David Imel?

  Yeah, it's the same chip.

• 53:46Andrew Manganelli?

  450 or something?

• 53:47David Imel?

  It's the same chip.

• 53:49Andrew Manganelli?

  It, it is like.

• 53:50David Imel?

You're just paying for a new design.

• 53:51Andrew Manganelli?

Pretty much. And the new Wear OS, but I'm assuming that'll get updated.

• 53:55David Imel?

  That'll come to the other.

• 53:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 53:57David Imel?

Yeah, wow. That's incredible. Wait, does this, does this, will the old one get the Run Coach thing? The AI Run Coach?

• 54:04Andrew Manganelli?

  I have no idea.

• 54:05Speaker 02

Samsung always likes to announce something and then two weeks later it's available.

• 54:08David Imel?

Oh, it is brighter by a thousand nits.

• 54:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, that's nice.

• 54:10David Imel?

  A thousand.

• 54:12Speaker 02

  Is that $300? Nice.

• 54:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Three thousand, right?

• 54:14David Imel?

  It's 3,000 nits versus 2,000.

• 54:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 54:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:17Speaker 02

Yeah, I'm not sure if that's worth, uh, 300 bucks, but you know, it is nice.

• 54:20David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:21Speaker 02

Uh, the watch itself, though, I, I like the way it looks. I do not like the way it feels.

• 54:26Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, really?

• 54:27Speaker 02

The bezel is a bidirectional bezel, so it spins in both directions. Typically in a dive watch, you don't want that because you're timing how long you're underwater and you can like undo the elapsed time and then you'll drown. So you want it to only go in one direction.

• 54:41David Imel?

I feel like the software won't let you do that.

• 54:43Speaker 02

Probably, well, no, in old dive watches, there's no software. It's like a physical mechanism.

• 54:48David Imel?

  Right.

• 54:48Speaker 02

Yeah, so this bidirectional bezel, oh yeah, the software here.

• 54:52David Imel?

The software should probably not go backwards.

• 54:54Speaker 02

It's just the, the clicks and the way that it feels.

• 54:57Andrew Manganelli?

  That I can see.

• 54:58Speaker 02

Moving in both directions, it's not as like sturdy because in real dive watches, it like clicks into place basically because you don't want that moving. This is very easy to move.

• 55:08Andrew Manganelli?

I'm assuming because it controls aspects of the UI.

• 55:11Speaker 02

Easily see myself like just moving my wrist and accidentally spinning the dial a little.

• 55:15David Imel?

  It's that loose.

• 55:16Speaker 02

  Spinning the bezel.

• 55:17Speaker 04

It feels like the, the actual case of the watch feels like nice metal and then the spinning crown feels like the cheap.

• 55:24Andrew Manganelli?

That's almost so much worse when you have two materials next to each other. It can make one a bad material feel 10 times worse because you feel what it like could be right there.

• 55:34Speaker 04

It might just be that it's so light, like it's just really thinly machine metal, but touching it feels like painted.

• 55:40Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Does it look good still? I, I have to say, I think this is one of the nicest looking smartwatches.

• 55:46Speaker 04

I'm a, look, I look emaciated, frankly, and so big watches like this look pretty silly on me most of the time.

• 55:56Andrew Manganelli?

I consider myself to have pretty thin wrists and this is a pretty big watch. I don't think it looks that bad. Do you think it looks bad?

• 56:04Speaker 04

No, but like, you know, you, you may have a thin wrist, but like, if I turn my wrist sideways, you won't be able to see it. You know what I mean? Like, like.

• 56:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Thin as the Z.

• 56:13Speaker 04

When I'm in, when I'm in the shower, I have to move my wrist around just to make sure it gets wet.

• 56:19Speaker 04

  I got more.

• 56:19Andrew Manganelli?

So not for you. Damn. I was kind of hoping Adam would like this a little better for this segment.

• 56:24Speaker 02

I cannot even get this strap in. I do like, I really like the way it looks. That's the thing.

• 56:29Andrew Manganelli?

So Michael Fisher posted pictures of this and it looks so.

• 56:33Speaker 02

So the purpose of a cushion like kind of case like this is for it to not look so massive on wrist. Like it wears.

• 56:40Andrew Manganelli?

  That does look pretty big.

• 56:41Speaker 01

  It looks pretty big.

• 56:42Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's a 46 millimeter watch.

• 56:43Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 56:44Speaker 02

  Yeah. Forty six is huge.

• 56:46Speaker 04

Okay, so that does, it is doing the job of making it look smaller. Forty six is ginormous.

• 56:52Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's.

• 56:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 56:53Speaker 01

  Big screen on your wrist.

• 56:54Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Forty six. I just want to see if there's a, it's only 46 millimeter.

• 56:58Speaker 04

That's like entourage sized watch. You know what I mean?

• 57:01Speaker 01

  That's Escalade.

• 57:02Speaker 04

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 57:05Speaker 01

  That's a good reference. Yeah.

• 57:06Speaker 02

  So.

• 57:07Andrew Manganelli?

The buttons are nice though. I like the buttons.

• 57:09Speaker 01

Correct me if I'm wrong, the watch seven did not have the rotating bezel?

• 57:12Speaker 02

  It did not.

• 57:13Speaker 01

It did die. So if you want the watch eight, you'll be getting the rotating bezel, you'd be getting a 3000.

• 57:18Speaker 02

  Classics.

• 57:18Speaker 01

Yeah, the watch eight classic, 3000 nits over 2000 nits, double the storage, slightly larger battery. The little antioxidant index that it now does, which I did a demo of, which is, you know, you might want that, maybe not.

• 57:31Speaker 02

  No.

• 57:31Speaker 01

  So.

• 57:32Andrew Manganelli?

When was the last classic? When was the last rotating bezel watch, Galaxy watch? I thought it wasn't that long ago, but this is kind of our four.

• 57:38Speaker 01

  Feature.

• 57:40Andrew Manganelli?

And it didn't look as much like, like this tries to look like the dive bezel on a normal watch. The old one was a little more almost just like protective and part of it and did span and was nice, but this makes it look like a, a watch watch. Um, it's kind of a bummer to hear that it's.

• 57:57Speaker 02

I mean aesthetically, I really like the way it looks. These are my kind of watches. Like I like big bulky dive watches like that. Like I have a Doxa, the Seiko Turtle, like I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, this looks very similar to that. It's like, that is the, the chunkiness is part of the allure of something like this.

• 58:12Speaker 01

Makes the Apple Watch Ultra look kind of sleek, to be honest.

• 58:14Speaker 02

Yeah. No, this is definitely more in line with like classic 60s style of watch. Uh, Mark, has they mentioned anything about what makes this one specifically better than the regular eight?

• 58:27Speaker 01

That one I couldn't tell you, but I could look it up. It would make them more money if you bought it.

• 58:31Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, is there, I mean, I think it literally might just be the, the rotating bezel and the.

• 58:38Speaker 01

  The design.

• 58:39Andrew Manganelli?

Can you pass it over here? Can we get a quick?

• 58:41Speaker 02

  Definitely gonna pass it here.

• 58:43David Imel?

  Throw it.

• 58:43Speaker 01

  Throw it. Do it. Yeah.

• 58:45David Imel?

  Good catch.

• 58:47Speaker 04

Adams, for audio listeners, Adam's throw was just awful. The watch went through one of our windows and is now incurring several lawsuits.

• 58:56Speaker 04

  Allegedly.

• 58:57Andrew Manganelli?

Marquez is looking at it. He's comparing it to the Apple Watch Ultra.

• 59:00Speaker 01

I mean, a circular display has always been nice. Yeah. Except, except the UI is like pill-shaped.

• 59:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Sounds, yeah.

• 59:07Speaker 01

So there's a bunch of pills that go inside a circle and it's like, what are we doing here, folks?

• 59:11Andrew Manganelli?

  It's not the best move.

• 59:12Speaker 01

  Not the best move.

• 59:13Andrew Manganelli?

  That sounds okay.

• 59:17Speaker 02

  That's the bezel.

• 59:18Speaker 01

  Sounds good.

• 59:20Speaker 02

And the watch is off, so that is like a hardware.

• 59:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:23Speaker 02

  Click from the bezel.

• 59:24Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, wait, but the numbers don't move with the dial? Aren't they supposed to?

• 59:28Speaker 02

  No, so.

• 59:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 59:29Speaker 02

  The way.

• 59:30Andrew Manganelli?

  I know nothing about watches.

• 59:31Speaker 02

The way that the bezel works is typically if you have hands, right? And you'll have a minute hand pointing to like, it's 10:10. So you move the bezel so that the arrow aligns with the minutes. And then as the minute hand moves, you can tell how long it's been.

• 59:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Wait.

• 59:46Speaker 02

  It's just elapsed time, basically.

• 59:48Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, but this bezel has no markers on it.

• 59:51Speaker 02

No, you would have to basically move it to the zero.

• 59:54Speaker 01

  I like the feeling of.

• 59:55Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think that feels that bad.

• 59:57Speaker 01

  Bezel.

• 59:58Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think the bezel feels that bad.

• 59:59Speaker 02

I'll bring in my watch tomorrow.

• 1:00:00Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I'm not saying it's gonna feel better than that, but I don't think it feels that bad for what it is.

• 1:00:05Speaker 02

I think if you're gonna do a hardware bezel, make it feel like a nice hardware bezel.

• 1:00:10Speaker 04

It's literally the one part of the watch that people are gonna touch.

• 1:00:13Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:00:13Speaker 04

So why would you make it feel like it came out of an ice cream truck?

• 1:00:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Crackerjack box?

• 1:00:19Speaker 02

Am I wrong? Anyway, speaking of me being wrong.

• 1:00:23Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:00:29Speaker 02

Trivia, dudes. So, question number two. The Google CR48 was a developer version of what Google hardware?

• 1:00:40Speaker 01

  Yeah, I have one.

• 1:00:41Speaker 02

  The CR48?

• 1:00:42Speaker 01

  I reviewed the CR48, actually.

• 1:00:43Speaker 02

  Did you?

• 1:00:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, I sure did.

• 1:00:45Speaker 02

  Interesting.

• 1:00:46Speaker 01

  I missed that thing.

• 1:00:46Speaker 02

I could buy it on eBay.

• 1:00:47Speaker 01

I might have kept my CR48. I think that's one of the few old things that I kept.

• 1:00:52Speaker 02

  Interesting.

• 1:00:52Speaker 01

Like the truly no logoed laptop, just matte black.

• 1:00:58Andrew Manganelli?

Did you not, did you not just say what it is?

• 1:01:01Speaker 01

  Whoops.

• 1:01:02Andrew Manganelli?

  All right.

• 1:01:03Speaker 01

  Um.

• 1:01:07Speaker 04

Trivia, dude. Wow, that was. Guys. That was awful. We're here talking about a Samsung watch. We're talking about a Samsung watch like it's new, okay? But actually, in the past, at some point in history, Samsung bought a German camera company called Rolle. I think it's how you say R O L L E I, right? Rolle is a camera, oh yeah. That is what I said. Samsung owns Rolle? They might not anymore, but at some point they did. I'll double check that. Okay. But they used Rolle's mechanical expertise to make a line of watches. What decade did these Samsung non-smart watches come out in? Oh, that's cool. Wow.

• 1:01:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Now I want one. Retro.

• 1:01:52Speaker 04

  Yeah, me too.

• 1:01:53Andrew Manganelli?

But I'm not gonna look it up. Also, I feel like the SEO is probably really hard on that with all the Samsung watches.

• 1:01:58Speaker 04

You just look up Samsung Rolle watch.

• 1:02:02Andrew Manganelli?

But don't, but, but don't do that.

• 1:02:04Speaker 04

Just as Samsung wanted to, and I'm gonna fact check this over the next like just to make sure because it's something I put together really fast, but Samsung bought Rolle,

• 1:02:13Speaker 04

wanted to pivot them into making, like they bought Rolle specifically to turn them into a watch company. Then they tried to start selling these watches in Europe and Rolex was like, are you kidding me? You think I'm gonna let you do this? Yeah. And after several years of court battles, Samsung was just like, oh, we're done with this. This is stupid.

• 1:02:31Andrew Manganelli?

Wow. When did they sell it back?

• 1:02:34Speaker 04

Nice try. Nineties. You motherfucker, that was the whole question.

• 1:02:46Speaker 04

Trivia, dude. We're, you gotta put some cut of everything that just happened in the video. All right, guys, because this is now the third Samsung question I've had to come up with today. This one's gonna be a weird one. In 1995, what major hip hop apparel brand did Samsung acquire a stake in? BTS.

• 1:03:10Speaker 04

  1995, hip hop apparel.

• 1:03:13Speaker 01

Okay. Hip hop apparel? I don't even know hip hop. Yeah, it's kind of hard to think of a 90s hip hop apparel.

• 1:03:18Speaker 04

There's literally one. There's only one that existed and you either know it or you don't.

• 1:03:24Speaker 01

  I don't. That is encouraging.

• 1:03:26Speaker 04

I'm not mad at you, but I am a little mad.

• 1:03:29Speaker 01

  At me?

• 1:03:30Speaker 04

  No, at everyone.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

Okay, yeah. All right, we'll think about it. Answers at the end like usual, we'll be right back.

• 1:03:49Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor and GitHub Copilot. Assign them work directly or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

• 1:05:37Andrew Manganelli?

All right, welcome back. Speaking of sweet apparel, I don't know if segues work after an ad break, but here we are. We have the Meta Oakley glasses. And so Marquez and I looked at these already. We got a kind of silly color.

• 1:05:51David Imel?

  Is it orange?

• 1:05:53Andrew Manganelli?

We tried to get the orange ones, but those were limited edition.

• 1:05:56David Imel?

  Is it polarizing?

• 1:05:58Andrew Manganelli?

They could, they might be a little polarizing. You're right, but I'm gonna let David open them for the first time. So we all know the Meta Ray Bans. This is exactly the color I asked for.

• 1:06:08David Imel?

I also want to say something funny. Okay. When I was, when I worked at Intel.

• 1:06:12Andrew Manganelli?

  This better be funny.

• 1:06:15David Imel?

Uh, part of the time I was at Intel, I was.

• 1:06:21Speaker 04

All right, David. Make us laugh.

• 1:06:22David Imel?

  I was a marketing.

• 1:06:23Speaker 04

  Make us laugh, David.

• 1:06:24David Imel?

I was a marketing manager for part of the time I was at Intel and I, I led the, like, part of the Intel Atom. Not, sorry, not Atom. It was Curie.

• 1:06:33Speaker 02

  I wasn't there.

• 1:06:36David Imel?

Intel Curie used to be like a, a wearables chipset that they made. And in fact, and anyway, I was like, leading this like marketing thing to get Curie integrated into other products. So we made like smart basketball shoes with, um, I think it was Lenovo and Yao Ming.

• 1:06:57David Imel?

  Yep. But we also.

• 1:07:00Speaker 04

Wait, why was that so funny?

• 1:07:01David Imel?

I don't know. Oh, because they said it was, say something funny.

• 1:07:04Speaker 04

  Yeah, right, right.

• 1:07:06Andrew Manganelli?

  That is pretty funny, actually.

• 1:07:07David Imel?

  Yeah, it's pretty funny.

• 1:07:08Andrew Manganelli?

  He made smart. Hold on.

• 1:07:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:10Speaker 04

  Let's unpack that.

• 1:07:11Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah. So Yao Ming.

• 1:07:13David Imel?

  Basketball shoes.

• 1:07:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Smart basketball shoes.

• 1:07:14David Imel?

  With Yao Ming.

• 1:07:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Curie chip. Okay.

• 1:07:16David Imel?

Curie. We also worked with Oakley to make the, like, the first pair of smart glasses.

• 1:07:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Hmm.

• 1:07:22David Imel?

  So it was very funny.

• 1:07:23Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Wait, is that funny? Like, haha? Or funny like?

• 1:07:27David Imel?

Well, because these are like. Funny because Intel is gonna be gone in a couple of years. That's actually true. That's just a true statement.

• 1:07:34Speaker 04

Alright, I'm finally gonna open these up. Alright. Just like how I helped make the Bixby by training that data set. I just kill a lot of things. Alright, it's time. Okay, they're beige.

• 1:07:48Andrew Manganelli?

They're like, everyone has a different, actually you called them beige, I think. I call them like, bone.

• 1:07:53Speaker 04

  Bone.

• 1:07:53Speaker 02

Do you guys like this case better than the regular?

• 1:07:55Speaker 04

No, I can't get them out.

• 1:07:57Speaker 02

Yeah, this is like a different, it looked like you pressed a button and the whole thing kinda.

• 1:08:00Andrew Manganelli?

It's cuz the charging contacts are at the bridge of the nose, so it sits down into a piece that almost locks it into that, inside of the case.

• 1:08:09Speaker 04

What in the Snap spectacles are those? I was just, these look exactly like the Snap. Those aren't Oakleys, those have nothing to do with Oakleys.

• 1:08:16Andrew Manganelli?

You don't see the O on the side, bro? Oh, I just realized the microphone is inside the O.

• 1:08:21Speaker 04

Why would they make them look like that?

• 1:08:23David Imel?

  Hey Meta.

• 1:08:24Speaker 04

  Oh no.

• 1:08:25Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know if they're on.

• 1:08:26David Imel?

  They're probably not.

• 1:08:27Andrew Manganelli?

You literally just got them before.

• 1:08:29Speaker 04

So for, for anyone, for audio listeners, I'm gonna attempt to describe these. They're just awful.

• 1:08:35Andrew Manganelli?

I actually think David looks kinda cool.

• 1:08:37Speaker 04

They, they look like, sort of like, god, they look like if.

• 1:08:41Andrew Manganelli?

If Oakley tried to make the circle Ray-Bans be like, from the future. Being like Ready Player One.

• 1:08:49Speaker 04

No, I, no, these are like, if, if you tried to make the 2012 equivalent of John Lennon sunglasses, but with thick white frames. And then also, they're not completely circular.

• 1:09:01Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, so the thing that makes.

• 1:09:02Speaker 04

The nose bridge makes them, this, this weird, like, flat side.

• 1:09:06David Imel?

The thing that makes them ugly is that they're circular, except for the inner nose area where they just, for some reason, are straight.

• 1:09:14David Imel?

  And, yeah.

• 1:09:15Andrew Manganelli?

I hate that I kinda like them.

• 1:09:17Speaker 04

Am I allowed to say [BLEEP] on the podcast? Because, yeah, the, the lenses, the reflective lenses are the color of [BLEEP]. It's like you're looking at the world through.

• 1:09:25David Imel?

I would like to know. The thing is, I can see myself in the sub-monitor, and I would not go outside wearing these.

• 1:09:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Can I try them on?

• 1:09:32David Imel?

Yeah. I wanna see what they look like on other people.

• 1:09:35Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like, we also picked one of the sillier colors. No, I feel like a lot of, there's ones that are, like, just black on black.

• 1:09:44David Imel?

  If you put the.

• 1:09:44Andrew Manganelli?

And those look a little less.

• 1:09:46Speaker 04

I can see black on black looking a little.

• 1:09:47Andrew Manganelli?

But Oakley's whole thing is like, they do some pretty wild colors, especially with lenses.

• 1:09:51David Imel?

  That's actually not.

• 1:09:52Andrew Manganelli?

This is definitely one of them.

• 1:09:52David Imel?

  That's actually not.

• 1:09:53Andrew Manganelli?

Marquez looks cool. I hate how good Marquez looks in everything.

• 1:09:56David Imel?

They look a little silly, but not horrible.

• 1:09:59Speaker 04

  Marques, look at me.

• 1:10:00David Imel?

Oh wait, they are on. There's a good picture of you.

• 1:10:03Speaker 02

  Did you, oh.

• 1:10:04Andrew Manganelli?

  And another one.

• 1:10:05Speaker 04

Yo, the envelope on that LED is nice. The way it just sort of fades back when you're done.

• 1:10:09Speaker 02

  Can you?

• 1:10:11David Imel?

  They don't look that bad.

• 1:10:12Speaker 04

  Yeah, they do.

• 1:10:13Speaker 01

  I am.

• 1:10:13Speaker 04

  Sorry, Marques.

• 1:10:14Speaker 01

I am not a fan of the tint. I guess you'd get used to it after a while because the glasses are different types of tint.

• 1:10:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:10:19Speaker 01

So it makes my MacBook Pro screen look green, unfortunately. But, um, yeah, bigger batteries in here, so longer battery life, better optics, so potentially better camera quality. Um, and then how much do you like the Oakley look? You can get these Oakleys, you can get the Meta Ray-Bans. Two enormous companies in, I feel like the two biggest that I know of, as far as name brands in glasses that people wear, Oakley and Ray-Bans, so.

• 1:10:47Speaker 02

I'm waiting for the Warby Parkers.

• 1:10:49Speaker 01

Yeah, I think, well, didn't Google just snag that?

• 1:10:52David Imel?

  Yeah, they did.

• 1:10:52Speaker 01

So like, yeah, they kind of don't have many choices left as far as who to partner with, so.

• 1:10:56David Imel?

I don't really want Meta on my face, but I'd maybe do.

• 1:10:59Speaker 01

  Google's cool, though.

• 1:11:00Speaker 02

  I don't know.

• 1:11:01Andrew Manganelli?

I'm surprised at how light these are.

• 1:11:02Speaker 02

The Ray-Bans are really cool. Have you tried them?

• 1:11:05David Imel?

  Yeah, they, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:11:05Speaker 02

  They're super.

• 1:11:06David Imel?

No, and the video quality is actually quite.

• 1:11:08Speaker 01

Yeah, like as a product, what they offer, like, forget like the fashion part, obviously you can like the look or not or get a different look, but it's a camera on your face and the POV video aspect of it seems to be the thing that people are most gravitating towards.

• 1:11:21David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:21Speaker 01

  And then also.

• 1:11:22David Imel?

  Really good.

• 1:11:22Speaker 01

Yeah. And then, you know, however much you want to use the AI assistant, you can ask it about what you're looking at, you can ask it random questions, you can talk to it like it's your phone, but without your hands.

• 1:11:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:31Speaker 01

  So that's decently useful.

• 1:11:32David Imel?

I wish you could do, uh, horizontal video on them still. It's kind of wild to me that they didn't introduce that.

• 1:11:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:11:39David Imel?

I don't know, maybe it was like a vertical resolution thing or because, because there's parallax because it's only on one side.

• 1:11:45Speaker 02

It's because they want you to share it to Instagram.

• 1:11:47Speaker 01

  Wait, sorry.

• 1:11:48Speaker 04

There would be no, there would be no parallax.

• 1:11:50David Imel?

Oh, right. They want you to send to Instagram. Yeah.

• 1:11:53Speaker 02

Wait, so look, here's, I'm recreating the Zuckerberg picture.

• 1:11:58David Imel?

Yeah, you look way better in those than Zektos.

• 1:12:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Thank you. I don't.

• 1:12:03Speaker 02

I don't know that to be true.

• 1:12:04David Imel?

Also, the color, the official color is called Desert 24K Prism Polar.

• 1:12:09Andrew Manganelli?

What are the other colors? What are the other colors? There's some ones that are not as, there's a kind of clear one. I think if you press the arrows right there.

• 1:12:16Speaker 01

Hmm, I don't like that they called 3K Video Ultra HD. It's not Ultra HD. It's 3K, not 4K, but it is better than before.

• 1:12:24David Imel?

They are, it's a, it's $500 for the limited edition and three and, and $400 for the regular ones. Yeah, so that is quite a bit more expensive, right? The regular Ray-Ban metas were.

• 1:12:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, how, 300?

• 1:12:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:40Speaker 02

I want to say like 329.

• 1:12:42Speaker 01

  329.

• 1:12:42Speaker 02

  Something like that.

• 1:12:44David Imel?

Yeah, you know, I would like them a lot more if they didn't have that weird divot near the nose bridge. But I probably wouldn't. You look fine in them.

• 1:12:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Thanks.

• 1:12:53David Imel?

So maybe I'm just being like hard on myself.

• 1:12:55Speaker 02

I think it's just the, the silhouette on these is very particular. Like, I feel like the Ray-Bans, most people wear those kind of sunglasses, like the Wayfarer style. So wearing them doesn't look like super out of place. It's not like drawing attention to yourself. Oakleys are like very particular to certain like places and things that people are doing, like activities.

• 1:13:17Speaker 01

Yeah, it's all fashion, all style, subjective. You know, it's funny, I just got a notification saying the interior of my Rivian is 126 degrees now. So it's running the fans to protect the displays, maybe so they don't break.

• 1:13:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, whoa.

• 1:13:32Speaker 01

  But speaking of Rivian.

• 1:13:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Nice.

• 1:13:35Speaker 01

That, see what I just did there? I didn't plan that. They just, I got the notification. A small Rivian update, they are updating their maps system to be fully a little bit more integrated with Google Maps. I, I don't functionally think it makes that much of a difference, but there are some nice little things that they've added. So there's better satellite view. It's obviously going to be built into Google's data, so real time traffic and, you know, rerouting, better routing to get to your navigation points. Um, when you go to a charger, it will be able to know how long you have to sit there to charge versus when you take off to get to the next place, how long, how much you arrive with. All that is great. And then I think honestly, the best point, which is kind of like a brief mention in the video, but it makes a big difference when you're using it is as you're driving, you couldn't

• 1:14:20Speaker 01

do this before, you can touch a point of interest on the map and it'll show you the info for it. So I've been driving in the Rivian and been like, what is that weird looking building? And it'll show like a name. And I just want to tap it and just figure out what it is. But you couldn't do that in Rivian maps before. Now you can. I think that's the best new thing. Still no CarPlay or Android Auto, but you know, better Google mapping is always welcome for us Rivian drivers. So yeah, shout out to that.

• 1:14:43Speaker 02

Cool. Would you take CarPlay or Android Auto over this?

• 1:14:48Speaker 01

At this point, no, I'm so used to it. Like I have a little, I guess, yeah, I would take it. I'm not like mad. Like if I had it, I would use Waze and Spotify and everything built in. But I have a little mount for my phone. And at this point, my instinct as soon as I get in the Rivian is I just put my phone up and I hit Waze and then I'm good to go. So yeah, it's, it's something I learned to live with in my many years of driving a Tesla. It's like, just kind of, you just put your phone up, you know?

• 1:15:14Speaker 02

I just feel like this is the future for all cars, unfortunately, is they're all gonna have like their own weird software and we just all use our phones anyway.

• 1:15:22Speaker 01

There is kind of this tide happening of, of you have to, if you're a car manufacturer, you kind of have to pick. CarPlay Ultra is looming. Like the new improvements with CarPlay in iOS 26 are very solid. And if you are a car company trying to figure out if you should lean into this CarPlay thing or lean out, it's never been a more important time to make that choice, I feel like. It's kind of a fork in the road for them. And yeah, the Escalade doesn't have CarPlay. Like that's one of the notable things it doesn't have that maybe some people would hate about it. It also has 50 inches of displays, running Google apps and the Play Store and Waze and Spotify and all sorts of other stuff. So maybe you don't care it doesn't have CarPlay. But up to you.

• 1:16:06Speaker 01

Anyway, speaking of cars that don't have CarPlay, one more story. And I actually have a take about this that I'm not sure about, but I think I'm gonna just send it.

• 1:16:12Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:16:13Speaker 01

Tesla has recently unveiled a new Model Y.

• 1:16:19Speaker 01

It's called the Model, let me actually get the name of it. Model Y plus. Model Y L, there it is.

• 1:16:24David Imel?

Not a Model Y, didn't they update this sooner? Model, why did they put an AI girlfriend in my car?

• 1:16:29Speaker 01

None of these things. It is, it is just a longer Model Y. So this is, this is announced by their, like their Weibo account. So I'm pretty sure this is just going to be in China, at least for now. But the Model Y L is a longer Model Y, longer wheelbase and has three rows. So three sets of rows for people to, you know, jump in. I think the, the expected three row before was like a little cramped. A little cramped. Very cramped. The third row was super cramped. I don't think lean would fit in the back.

• 1:16:55David Imel?

Most three rows are pretty cramped.

• 1:16:56Speaker 01

For car seats, basically, but this is like a real, a real three row size. It's still pretty small, but it's funny. The wheelbase is actually three inches longer than the Model X, while the overall size is still slightly smaller than Model X. But there's theoretically enough passenger room for the same three rows of people as a Model X. And I think that's really interesting because it's probably, it's going to be cheaper than a Model X. And this is one more reason why Tesla could kill the Model X today.

• 1:17:24David Imel?

  Yeah, the Model X sucks.

• 1:17:25Speaker 01

It's not that it sucks. It's just that it's more expensive for not that much more utility. Obviously they make a plaid one. So like, if you have more money, it's good for Tesla to just offer a more expensive thing for you to buy. It has the Falcon wing doors. It's a little bit more high tech in its overall presence, but generally it's like, just, yeah, bring that Model Y L to more markets and there will be even less reason for Model X to exist.

• 1:17:51David Imel?

The Model X was the first one after the Roadster, right?

• 1:17:53Speaker 01

No, so it was Roadster, then it was Model S. And then, yeah, along comes Falcon wing doors, Model X, then S, or then Y, or three, then Y.

• 1:18:01David Imel?

I don't know. I think the Falcon wing doors are like overrated.

• 1:18:04Speaker 01

They're, they're also kind of polarizing. Like I know people who love the Falcon wing doors. I also know people who wouldn't dare pull up to the school to take their kid out of the thing with Falcon wing doors. So it's kind of a statement. Yeah, but, yeah, a Model Y L is seems like a really, really good alternative to the Model X.

• 1:18:22David Imel?

I've been wondering why the X even continues to exist, like even after the Model Y came out. I know that the X is still bigger.

• 1:18:29Speaker 01

But it's just like, how big do you really need?

• 1:18:31David Imel?

  Isn't it more luxurious? I don't care.

• 1:18:34Andrew Manganelli?

I'm the back row headroom will be better in the X than this. Cause like this is the roof is gonna be slanting back way.

• 1:18:40David Imel?

  But the interior trim is.

• 1:18:42Speaker 04

I thought it was supposed to be like higher quality. Like people always say like, like.

• 1:18:45Andrew Manganelli?

Well, the three and Y were supposed to be a little more simple to save on costs.

• 1:18:49Speaker 04

  Yeah, right.

• 1:18:49Andrew Manganelli?

Or originally, I guess then they did the refresh of the S and it went this landscape screen and they.

• 1:18:57Speaker 01

So the Model S and X still have a display behind the steering wheel. And there they still have little things that cost more money. And I guess you could say the Falcon window is a big thing that costs more money. But in general, the interiors are very similar other than that. You have a backseat display, you know? They probably charge at similar rates. I don't think they're that different. But yeah, Model Y S or Model Y L is here.

• 1:19:21David Imel?

  Well, they also.

• 1:19:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Y S O.

• 1:19:23David Imel?

  Y S O. Model Y Ellis.

• 1:19:28Speaker 01

They also introduced a Model three plus only in China. Uh, it just has more range. Cool. So with a different type of battery.

• 1:19:37David Imel?

  Nice.

• 1:19:37Speaker 01

  So with trivia.

• 1:19:43Speaker 01

  It's about that time.

• 1:19:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Can I steal a board?

• 1:19:45Speaker 01

Have you been writing things this entire episode?

• 1:19:47David Imel?

No, this is why I want to introduce the rule.

• 1:19:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Nope.

• 1:19:50Speaker 02

Quick update on the score. Marquez with 28, Andrew with 17, David in the lead with 21.

• 1:19:58Speaker 01

  31.

• 1:19:59Andrew Manganelli?

  31. Thank you.

• 1:20:02Speaker 04

Earlier in this episode, I asked you to think of every company that released a product that had a Chi, it was Chi compatible, had the official Chi standard in it prior to iPhone joining the rat race in 2017 with the iPhone eight.

• 1:20:22Speaker 04

  That was incredible. The timing.

• 1:20:27Andrew Manganelli?

And it's minus one for the wrong ones?

• 1:20:29Speaker 04

Yeah, if you get one wrong. Wait, really?

• 1:20:30Andrew Manganelli?

You go, or how about just?

• 1:20:32Speaker 04

  Minus one point? Yeah.

• 1:20:33Andrew Manganelli?

Minus one towards the total of this answer? Or you start losing points?

• 1:20:37Speaker 02

No, I say the whole point.

• 1:20:38Speaker 04

Yeah, you start losing points. No, what? It's my game. It's our game. But that's danger zone. It's Adam and I's game. So, David, you're winning. Yeah, for now. I'm deleting one that I'm not sure about. Yeah. All right, who would like to go first?

• 1:20:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Should we all flip them?

• 1:20:55Speaker 04

  All right.

• 1:20:55Andrew Manganelli?

I'll go first because I have the least amount.

• 1:20:57Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 1:20:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Motorola.

• 1:20:59Speaker 04

Motorola is on there with the Droid 3 in 2011.

• 1:21:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Samsung.

• 1:21:04Speaker 04

Samsung is on there with the Galaxy S3 in 2012. Ayo. LG is an accepted answer, but they're the phone that-

• 1:21:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Don't care, it's accepted.

• 1:21:15Speaker 04

  The Droid 3? I care.

• 1:21:17Speaker 02

So that was three points for Andrew?

• 1:21:19Speaker 04

Three points for Andrew. Yeah. Andrew, how does it feel?

• 1:21:22Andrew Manganelli?

Um, bad because I can see how many all of them put and how many I missed.

• 1:21:26Speaker 04

Well, maybe, maybe they're about to eat it.

• 1:21:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Probably not.

• 1:21:30Speaker 04

So, David or Marquez, would one of you guys like to volunteer to go next? Do you want me to go?

• 1:21:36Andrew Manganelli?

  I'll go.

• 1:21:37Speaker 04

Okay, you go. Uh, I crossed out my role, unfortunately. I would have gotten a point there. I wrote Samsung. I appreciate the honesty, Marquez. Actually, also give Andrew a fourth point for coming up with the, uh, you lose a point thing.

• 1:21:46Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:21:46Andrew Manganelli?

  What?

• 1:21:47Speaker 04

I did say that earlier, but you got a point. All right, Marquez, please. Samsung.

• 1:21:53Speaker 04

  LG.

• 1:21:55Speaker 04

HTC, but you're not getting points for that?

• 1:21:57Speaker 02

  Right.

• 1:21:57Speaker 04

  Uh, Starbucks.

• 1:22:00Speaker 04

That one was hard to research. And IKEA. Way to go.

• 1:22:04Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, I wasn't sure if IKEA would have been. That was a great guess.

• 1:22:06Speaker 04

I didn't know how it really was.

• 1:22:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Free, yeah.

• 1:22:08Speaker 04

  So I put HTC.

• 1:22:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Sort of.

• 1:22:10Speaker 04

I'm not, not awarding points for that, but it's all good. Okay. Uh, Asus. Hell, yeah. Do you know what Asus product it is? Was it the Zenfone 4? Uh, it was even, actually, they made a PC with a cheap hat built into it, the M70. Oh, that's cool. Uh, Samsung. Uh, yes, Samsung. Starbucks. Yes. LG. Yes. Motorola. Yes. Google. Uh, Google and LG technically Nexus. LG Nexus. I'm not getting several points for that. In post, I'm gonna add some like funky music under this. So just, yeah, do, do bob your head a little bit like you're dancing. The Toyota Avalon in 2013. In 2015, the Lexus NX. The Sony Xperia Z ZV3. Oh, wow. The BlackBerry Priv. Oh, yeah.

• 1:22:56Speaker 04

Starbucks. And I think, um, there's a Palm device that might have had Chi. Not the Pre, but they made some other like peripheral to it. Anyway, there you go. The more you know. Hey, that's what, that's what trivia is all about is learning something. So even if David extended his lead with even more points than he needed, uh, we all learned something today. It's actually crazy how I tried to like shuffle up the scores with a big points question and the delta here was one.

• 1:23:22Andrew Manganelli?

Well, what's funny is we still have one more trivia question.

• 1:23:24Speaker 04

We do have one more trivia question. Guys, the Google CR48. Just kidding. Guys. After what decade did Samsung buy what? Oh, no, sorry, guys. What mid 90s? No, sorry. What 90s hip hop fashion brand did the textiles division of Samsung accord invest in?

• 1:23:47Speaker 04

  In the 90s. Hip hop?

• 1:23:51Speaker 04

What the heck is a hip hop brand? Apparel brand. What the heck is hip hop?

• 1:23:56Andrew Manganelli?

Can you send me the link to the old Samsung watch? I want to see that really bad. Later.

• 1:24:03Speaker 04

• 1:24:09Speaker 04

There's really one famous hip hop. Like, there's obviously lots of. See, David, that's not a bad guess. It's wrong, but it's not a bad guess. Cool. Did all three of you get? Oh, my God. I wasn't even online yet. First of all. I'm not gonna know this. Echo is definitely a skateboarding brand, right? Am I right? Am I right about that?

• 1:24:26Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know. It.

• 1:24:28Speaker 04

• 1:24:39Speaker 04

  No.

• 1:24:40Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:24:40David Imel?

Yeah, because there was like, the fake Supreme, it was Supreme Italy, which is not associated with Supreme, and they tricked Samsung into making a collab phone where they thought they were working with the real Supreme.

• 1:24:52Speaker 01

  Incredible.

• 1:24:53David Imel?

  It was amazing.

• 1:24:54Speaker 01

• 1:24:55Andrew Manganelli?

I'm pretty sure it was like a brick and mortar store or something.

• 1:24:58David Imel?

• 1:25:05David Imel?

• 1:25:07Speaker 04

Reebok, wrong, and then Andrew, you put Echo, which is wrong.

• 1:25:11David Imel?

  Santa Cruz.

• 1:25:12Speaker 04

The correct answer is FUBU. FUBU, for us, by us.

• 1:25:17David Imel?

  Isn't that a streaming service?

• 1:25:18Speaker 04

That is FUBO, which made Googling this question to fact check it really hard.

• 1:25:24Speaker 04

There wasn't even a, did you mean FUBU? It was just like, you meant FUBO, right?

• 1:25:27David Imel?
