• 0:16Cameron Hanes?

This is the Keep Hammer Collective with Brian Callen.

• 0:18Speaker 01

  Yes, sir.

• 0:19Cameron Hanes?

  How are you?

• 0:20Speaker 01

It's good to see you, buddy.

• 0:21Cameron Hanes?

  Dude.

• 0:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 0:22Cameron Hanes?

  Eugene, Oregon.

• 0:23Speaker 01

I know. Well, you and I have always had this relationship where we're at something probably for Rogan or the UFC. And then we usually are sitting sort of side by side where we, I'll just say something to you and then you say something to me.

• 0:35Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 0:35Speaker 01

  But it's always humor.

• 0:36Cameron Hanes?

  Little clips.

• 0:37Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. I always appreciate the fact that you have a sense of humor. And it's kind of, we're two of the older guys in the mix. And it's always, you know, and I'll say something like, uh, I, uh, I train and then you'll say, I know, I've heard. And then that's what we say.

• 0:51Cameron Hanes?

Normally I comment on, have you been, you look bigger.

• 0:55Speaker 01

Yeah. I have a really, I have a nice body.

• 0:58Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that's what I usually could start with.

• 0:59Speaker 01

Yeah, I work on aesthetics. I don't work on running, you know, Mount Sherpa or whatever the hell it is you run.

• 1:05Cameron Hanes?

  Cock Sherpa.

• 1:05Speaker 01

  Cock Sherpa.

• 1:06Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:07Speaker 01

No, that's, that's what you, a lot of people don't know that Cam has somebody who mines his dong. He wears it in a holster, a running holster.

• 1:14Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:15Speaker 01

No, I, uh, I know that usually you do the run up the mountain.

• 1:19Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:20Speaker 01

Yeah, and then the run down the mountain.

• 1:22Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:22Speaker 01

Yeah, that's three. I don't have the ankles or calves for that, that my shin splints, there's a problem there. So, yeah. And then we do a what? A lift?

• 1:30Cameron Hanes?

  Lift, right here.

• 1:31Speaker 01

A lift. What kind of, what, what, what kind of lifting do we do?

• 1:34Cameron Hanes?

Oh, like, uh, thigh blaster, Suzanne Somers?

• 1:38Speaker 01

A thigh blaster is my favorite.

• 1:40Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah. So I got Suzanne Somers thigh blaster. I got the Shake Weight.

• 1:44Speaker 01

  Yes, yes.

• 1:45Cameron Hanes?

So you know the hardcore, just pretty much hardcore stuff?

• 1:47Speaker 01

  I'm sponsored by Shake Weight.

• 1:49Cameron Hanes?

  Are you?

• 1:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:50Speaker 01

I want to talk about it.

• 1:51Cameron Hanes?

That free, the free weights, so you get hurt with the free weights?

• 1:54Speaker 01

No, no, no, I'm a free weight guy.

• 1:55Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, you are?

• 1:56Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:57Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:57Speaker 01

  I dig deep.

• 1:58Cameron Hanes?

I didn't know, I was gonna say Nautilus.

• 2:00Speaker 01

No, no, dude, I know. I, I know what you're doing here and you're trying to assert dominance and I don't appreciate that. Cause at the end of the day, it's free weights for me because I'm an American. I'm an American man, you understand? And I say, before I hit that gym, I look, I look at that gym and I go, we're taking no prisoners today. That's what I say.

• 2:17Cameron Hanes?

Is that from when you were in Gin Pop?

• 2:20Speaker 01

So, so I'm glad you asked. Uh, it was when I ran gen pop, right? When I was framed for a crime I didn't do.

• 2:28Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 2:29Speaker 01

And then I was exonerated and that was when I was, uh, that's when I did some stuff for the government I can't talk about.

• 2:34Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 2:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:35Cameron Hanes?

I'm just like, could you just vaguely?

• 2:38Speaker 01

Well, I'll tell you what, Cam Hanes, will you just keep waking up free every morning and I'll do what I do? How's that sound?

• 2:45Cameron Hanes?

Can I just say thank you?

• 2:46Speaker 01

  You can.

• 2:47Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 2:47Speaker 01

  You can.

• 2:48Cameron Hanes?

Thank, thank you for your service and my freedom.

• 2:49Speaker 01

  You're welcome. You're welcome, buddy.

• 2:52Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it's a, so we were doing some research on you last night.

• 2:56Speaker 01

  Good.

• 2:56Cameron Hanes?

And, uh, there's a lot of clips out there.

• 3:00Speaker 01

  A lot of clips.

• 3:00Cameron Hanes?

  A lot of good ones.

• 3:01Speaker 01

Lot of good clips, a lot of clips.

• 3:03Cameron Hanes?

You've been in the game for a minute.

• 3:05Speaker 01

I'm, I'm an older man, my friend, and I have indeed. I, I always say, I'm just, my father called me up the other day and he goes, you've been in a lot of stuff. I was like, what do you think I've been doing? I've been hustling.

• 3:15Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 3:15Speaker 01

But yeah, I, you know, it was always, I tried so hard at acting for so long. And if you try that hard. You know, I had, I had this, I was trying to write this joke and it didn't really ever, I could never really figure out what it was, but somebody asked me, they said, you know, you've been successful as an actor and a comedian or something like that. And I was like, well, not really, first of all, certainly not lately, but, but let's just take the fact that I was, I've done TV shows and, you know, starred in sitcoms. But the amount of time, the number of times I tried versus the times I actually succeeded at getting the job.

• 3:51Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 3:52Speaker 01

Is so pathetic. It's, it's literally like, I probably got seven yeses. And in this business, if you get seven yeses, that can be enough sometimes, cause it can turn into a, you know, it can, I think, I got Sex and the City and then I didn't really stop working after that, but it was always like these little jobs. It'd be like a small part in The Hangover, it'd be a small part in Entourage, but it was these significant things that I would go, you know, you'd go from job to job. But then to be like three months of nothing, you know, and then, so, so for me, it's almost like, this was the metaphor I was using. If I were standing on my porch for 25 years

• 4:32Speaker 01

and I threw a rock at every sparrow that flew by, if I threw a rock at every sparrow. Um, I would hit in 25 years, I'd probably hit, I bet you 30 sparrows. I'd start learning how to lead them.

• 4:47Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 4:47Speaker 01

Maybe in the afternoon, I'd be like, they flow a little, they're a little slower, they fly in a straighter and they're going back to their nest. I don't know what I'd do. You'd become an expert at sparrow flight and you'd be able to, and probably very good at throwing rocks. And I'd probably hit 30 sparrows in 25 years or whatever, out of the sky with a stone.

• 5:06Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 5:06Speaker 01

  And then I'd stuff them.

• 5:08Cameron Hanes?

  That's incredible success.

• 5:09Speaker 01

Yes, I'd stuff them and I'd put them up on my wall, the way you've done with all your elk.

• 5:13Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 5:13Speaker 01

And, and it wouldn't be as impressive as this insane situation, but you would say, what are all those sparrows doing on your wall? And I'd say, I knocked them out of the sky with a stone. And you'd go, that, that dude must be the best stone thrower on the planet.

• 5:30Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 5:30Speaker 01

  I'd be magic to you.

• 5:31Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 5:32Speaker 01

But you forget that it took me 25 years of throwing stones every single day. And that's not impressive.

• 5:40Cameron Hanes?

  That's the metaphor.

• 5:41Speaker 01

That's, that's the metaphor for how I think of myself.

• 5:44Cameron Hanes?

How much have you made total from acting?

• 5:47Speaker 01

Probably, I don't know, somebody asked me that a while ago, my Wall Street buddy.

• 5:52Cameron Hanes?

  Seven thousand dollars?

• 5:53Speaker 01

Yeah, I've made, um, I've made, I fly privately, I have four private jets.

• 5:57Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 5:58Speaker 01

No, I've probably made, I bet you I've probably made with, with Mad TV, with the Goldberg's, with my own show. Not more than, it's gonna sound like a lot, but it's not, you know, for somebody who's been working as long as I have two million dollars.

• 6:14Cameron Hanes?

  That's good.

• 6:14Speaker 01

  I mean.

• 6:15Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 6:16Speaker 01

If it, if I, I'd have to really think about it, but if it's, if it's more than that, I'd be very surprised.

• 6:21Cameron Hanes?

Dude, I know you threw out like the hangover role, just kinda like small role. That was a fucking epic role. That, I love that scene.

• 6:29Speaker 01

Yeah, because, but again, that scene came out of the fact that I got jobs because I looked in the mirror and I realized I was a medium white guy. There was nothing physically about me, unless I take my pants off, but there was nothing physically about me that you're gonna go, we gotta get that guy. Let's get the medium white guy, the Irish. Italian guy, that guy. And I wasn't even like as an actor, it wasn't like I was Daniel Day Lewis. It wasn't like, you know, I had my moments, but I wasn't that talented. I was okay. But the one thing that you have to do when you're every man, when you're a regular guy, is you have to come to the audition with a character.

• 7:06Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 7:06Speaker 01

You gotta do something. So the character was a guy from New York who talks like this, but I know those guys and he owns a wedding chapel in, you know, in Vegas. But it was way funnier and I, I, at the table read, I looked at the director and I said, if he's from, you know, if he has a, a nice wedding chapel in Las Vegas, he should be from Armenia or Lebanon or something, you know? A guy who can get you anything you want, you know, he's a, I get you baklava, I can get you chicks, guns, what do you want? That kind of, that's, there's something funny about that guy. He's a hustler. And then he was like, that's it. And then the rest is history.

• 7:43Cameron Hanes?

Well, and it was perfect too, cause he had the upsell like on the mugs and the

• 7:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:48Cameron Hanes?

What, whatever hats, I don't know what else it was, but yeah, I mean, it's been years since I saw it, but yeah. That role was amazing.

• 7:54Speaker 01

Somebody came to me and said, you should have a business where you marry people in Vegas. And I was like, you can kill me. This thing's just not worth it.

• 8:02Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 8:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:03Cameron Hanes?

Well, and then, uh, so like in my research, I saw like, you're so good. I don't know what it was. It was like some black and white thing from years ago, but you were just doing an interview or whatever. It's just, I mean, you're just always funny. I don't know, just always funny. I didn't know. He's got the, got the quips, the quick wit, the everything else. It's just, you're just fun to be around.

• 8:25Speaker 01

Well, it's the way I navigate the world, right? Yeah. I think, you know, you and I were talking about how your, your story about your father and, you know, running track. Your dad was a track coach and of course, what a surprise that you tried, you ran to get his attention.

• 8:37Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 8:38Speaker 01

My ran, I, I did comedy because my dad was always busy and gone.

• 8:42Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 8:42Speaker 01

So when he would come back, he was too preoccupied. He was just not in the moment. He was preoccupied. So the way I'd get his attention is by re- Uh, I would recite funny movies.

• 8:54Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 8:54Speaker 01

Right? So I would redo Young Frankenstein for him. But then I started to add to it.

• 9:01Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 9:01Speaker 01

Like I would, I would add jokes that weren't in the movie.

• 9:04Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 9:04Speaker 01

Right? So I'd be like, I bet you'd think this is funny. And so he became my first audience in a way. But I was doing it because I wanted his attention.

• 9:11Cameron Hanes?

  Was he tough?

• 9:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:12Cameron Hanes?

  Like.

• 9:12Speaker 01

He was a Marine and, you know, a nineteen fifty's Marine, you know?

• 9:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:16Speaker 01

And yeah, he was tough, but he was always gone a lot. He was always gone.

• 9:19Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 9:20Speaker 01

So, uh, and, and oh, by the way, I, I, I was moved every two years. So I, I lived in, you know, seven different countries.

• 9:29Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 9:29Speaker 01

So I was born in the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, constantly moved.

• 9:35Cameron Hanes?

  Wow.

• 9:36Speaker 01

So no, no, there's, there was no stability. So you, you, I was thrown into a whole new group of kids. You know, every year and a half, two years.

• 9:45Cameron Hanes?

  Did humor help you?

• 9:46Speaker 01

Well, that's how you break in. So when you got guys to like you, get them laughing.

• 9:50Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 9:50Speaker 01

Get them laughing. Don't be the last guy picked on the team.

• 9:53Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 9:53Speaker 01

I was, I was okay. At least coordinated and, and be somewhat athletic and be funny. And if you can't beat the guys, get them laughing, dude.

• 10:02Cameron Hanes?

But you're also a trained killer.

• 10:04Speaker 01

I am a trained killer. I am a trained killer, but I'm also a lover, Cameron. Yeah, yeah. I'm, I'm like, um, I feel like warm wood in bed and that's my wife talking. You know what I mean? And I'm sorry to betray, you know, her trust, but.

• 10:17Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 10:17Speaker 01

She said, you're like warm wood.

• 10:19Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 10:20Speaker 01

And I said, I appreciate that.

• 10:21Cameron Hanes?

  I heard a reference.

• 10:22Speaker 01

  Video later. What?

• 10:23Cameron Hanes?

I heard a reference, what your back was like snake, like.

• 10:26Speaker 01

  A barrel of snakes.

• 10:27Cameron Hanes?

  Barrel of snakes.

• 10:27Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. I do a lot of pull ups, Cam.

• 10:30Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 10:30Speaker 01

  You know what I'm saying?

• 10:31Cameron Hanes?

  Pull ups.

• 10:32Speaker 01

And rows and upright rows. Yeah. My, my back routine, it's torturous.

• 10:36Cameron Hanes?

  I bet.

• 10:37Speaker 01

Yeah. And then there's, and of course, then there's the boxing and that complements it. You know what I'm saying? There's a lot of push and pull.

• 10:43Cameron Hanes?

  What about jujitsu?

• 10:44Speaker 01

Well, first of all, it's pronounced jujitsu. You know what I'm saying? I know, I'm sorry.

• 10:49Cameron Hanes?

  You're a black belt, right?

• 10:51Speaker 01

  I'm not a black belt.

• 10:52Cameron Hanes?

  What?

• 10:52Speaker 01

But I do roll with black belts.

• 10:54Cameron Hanes?

  And tap them out?

• 10:55Speaker 01

Well, um, it depends. Now, you know, lately I've been trying to roll with Tim Kennedy. And, uh, and I don't appreciate him because there's a lot of giggling that goes on his side.

• 11:07Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 11:07Speaker 01

And then there's a lot of wheezing on my, on my end.

• 11:10Cameron Hanes?

  That's weird.

• 11:11Speaker 01

Because, well, the, the problem is I would beat Tim.

• 11:14Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 11:14Speaker 01

I just don't have the, I don't have the strength.

• 11:17Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 11:17Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't have the, uh, the bone structure.

• 11:20Cameron Hanes?

  Are you sure?

• 11:21Speaker 01

So I have to rely on finesse.

• 11:23Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 11:24Speaker 01

  That's what I do.

• 11:25Cameron Hanes?

Um, what type of pressure did your dad put on you to join the military?

• 11:31Speaker 01

  None.

• 11:31Cameron Hanes?

  None?

• 11:32Speaker 01

  None.

• 11:32Cameron Hanes?

Cause he knew you were like this little light in the loafers actor?

• 11:36Speaker 01

Okay, don't say that. I don't appreciate that. See, I don't appreciate that characterization.

• 11:39Cameron Hanes?

No, no, no, I mean, that's not what I meant.

• 11:41Speaker 01

Yeah, but you said that. That's not, so I don't know if that's a reference to my sexuality or just the fact that I'm sensitive.

• 11:48Cameron Hanes?

  An actor.

• 11:48Speaker 01

I did have a man say to me once, he said, stop trying to be your dad. I said, why? Cause, cause your dad's a bear. He's a dog, you're a cat, okay? Cats are not dogs and there's different kinds of strength in masculinity. And it liberated me. So I don't need you reversing a whole bunch of, you know what I'm saying?

• 12:02Cameron Hanes?

  Right, right, right, right.

• 12:03Speaker 01

  So back to my dad.

• 12:04Cameron Hanes?

  That was my bad.

• 12:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:05Cameron Hanes?

My, no, what I meant was, um, your dad must've been very proud of you.

• 12:10Speaker 01

Well, my father was, my father didn't grow up with money, right? My father grew up with a dad who ignored him. And so my father, uh, didn't understand me. He, very hard for him and I sympathize. I was a complete jackass and I, I didn't know how to navigate the world other than I became a good communicator cause I was moved all the time. So the, I remember, I never forgot, what I got really good at was reading people. And I got very good at reading, I could read people, I, I knew what they were proud of right away and I knew what they were ashamed of right away. And I love people, so I would always protect people of what they were ashamed of and I would accentuate what they were proud of. When you do that with people, they like you right away.

• 12:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 12:50Speaker 01

I never thought of that, but as I look back on it, that's what I did. And I had a guy say to me, you know, you mirror really, really well. And I said, what the hell is that? He goes, he was a real estate agent. He goes, we study mirroring, which is you, you, you copy the body language of the person you're talking to and that it kind of they see themselves and you.

• 13:07Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 13:07Speaker 01

I never thought I did that.

• 13:08Cameron Hanes?

  They get comfortable.

• 13:09Speaker 01

Yeah, but that's a, that's a probably a survival instinct that I developed. But my father said to me once, he said, you know, you're, I, I made friends with these kids. He saw me when I was 14. And he goes, you're just an unbelievable communicator. You just make friends so quickly. It was the first compliment I got, right? But so he knew that I was very different than he was. So to his credit, he was like, this kid is, is just, he just resonates differently. And, and, and the military approach is not going to work on him.

• 13:39Cameron Hanes?

How, how was he like with people?

• 13:41Speaker 01

He loves people. He was great, but he's tough. He's, he's, uh, you know, he's just an Irish Italian marine from Wisconsin, you know, he, he's just a different guy.

• 13:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 13:51Speaker 01

Just different stakes. He grew up with different stakes. He was a father who wasn't around and you know, the different stakes, man.

• 13:56Cameron Hanes?

Well, yeah, you're, you're international, going to all these different countries. Your dad's Wisconsin, getting his ass kicked or whatever the hell happened when he was young.

• 14:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:04Cameron Hanes?

And so, yeah, you're, you know, out learning culture.

• 14:08Speaker 01

  I'm learning culture.

• 14:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

And, and I knew the difference between wines and I had an opinion on cheese for Christ's sake. I was, my friends called me the aristocrat. You know, cause, but he did everything he could to give me a life. It wasn't that we were crazy rich or anything, but by today's standards, but, but I had enough money, you know, he was, he was enough money. I never went hungry or anything and he was there, even though he was always gone, he was married to my mom. There, there was a stability I grew up with that he didn't grow up with. And, and, and so part of it also was that, you know, I remember I said, I want to be an actor and he didn't know what to do with himself, man.

• 14:41Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 14:41Speaker 01

It was, it was like hearing, you know, it was like saying, dad, I'm gay and you're never going to have kids again.

• 14:48Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 14:49Speaker 01

You know, I mean, never gonna have grandkids. It was, it was like to him, he was like, what the fuck are you talking, an actor? What are you talking about?

• 14:55Cameron Hanes?

Where did that come from? Why, why did?

• 14:58Speaker 01

  I.

• 14:58Cameron Hanes?

Were you taking theater in school?

• 15:00Speaker 01

No, no, I just was so moved by movies. Movies were like, I took them so seriously.

• 15:06Cameron Hanes?

And you wanted to impact people the way that actors on the screen impacted you?

• 15:10Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 15:10Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 15:11Speaker 01

Yes. And I, and I somehow felt I could do it. I don't know. I don't know what it is. Maybe it was because I, I was also really good at accents and I could, you know, um. I I had an ear for languages and accents and I don't know, I just feel it felt like I would watch it and I'd be like, I think I can do that. You know, what a peculiar skill, by the way.

• 15:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 15:34Speaker 01

  What a fucking strange skill.

• 15:36Cameron Hanes?

  I know.

• 15:37Speaker 01

I want to make believe. I want to be someone else.

• 15:39Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it's a there. But there's a there's actors like right now. I've been watching Mobland. Tom Hardy. I love Tom Hardy, but I think he's like the same character.

• 15:49Speaker 01

I worked with him. I worked with Tom.

• 15:50Cameron Hanes?

Same character almost every role, but just a but he, I don't know, there's some people who are on screen are just so good.

• 15:59Speaker 01

  Oh, he's like Brando.

• 16:00Cameron Hanes?

  And it's just.

• 16:01Speaker 01

  He smolders.

• 16:01Cameron Hanes?

You know, Christian Bale has had roles like that.

• 16:04Speaker 01

  Same thing.

• 16:05Cameron Hanes?

Um, yeah, I mean, so have you? Tell me about your favorite role, like where?

• 16:10Speaker 01

  Well, those guys love acting.

• 16:12Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 16:12Speaker 01

  I didn't like acting.

• 16:14Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 16:14Speaker 01

  I hated it.

• 16:15Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 16:16Speaker 01

I've never been on a set where I didn't want it to be over. And that's something I've always had trouble admitting.

• 16:20Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 16:20Speaker 01

You know, um, I love theater. I love theater. You can't make a living that way. Um, it's the piecemeal approach to to film, right? So everything you do, if you're shooting a big film, you're shooting a page a day.

• 16:32Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 16:32Speaker 01

And you enjoy that. Go ahead and enjoy that tedious fucking tedium where you you are sitting there and you got to have your head here and you do it here and you're doing the same thing over and over again. And you reach for the mug. Can you reach higher? Because we can't. The camera's here. If you can get the light. Hold on, we got to get the light. The light's not hitting his face. Just give us. Can you give us take five guys? Oh, man, hurry up and wait.

• 16:54Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 16:54Speaker 01

Fifteen minutes of your day is acting. The rest is waiting.

• 16:57Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 16:57Speaker 01

I don't want to live my life that way. I I can't do it. It's, you know, whether it's a commercial, whether it's a TV show, I fell in love with the people I would always work with, but the process of acting?

• 17:07Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 17:07Speaker 01

  Kiss my ass.

• 17:08Cameron Hanes?

Well, so so I got a movie role.

• 17:11Speaker 01

  You did?

• 17:11Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, I was Sheriff Browning. It's in this movie hasn't come out yet, but I just did it because I had never acted, right? And I'm like, I don't know, I like doing hard thing. To your point, oh, my God.

• 17:24Speaker 01

  Dude.

• 17:24Cameron Hanes?

Longest days ever and changing the light. And it's just like, what was that one word I had kept? Oh yeah, I had to say dangerous like

• 17:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:36Cameron Hanes?

Thirty different times in thirty different ways.

• 17:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:39Cameron Hanes?

And it's three in the morning and you have to, because we were doing it in a police station.

• 17:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:44Cameron Hanes?

And you had to deliver it with the same every single time. That's exhausting.

• 17:49Speaker 01

When I did Entourage, I had to be crying and they didn't really keep a lot of it, but all day long I had to be weeping because they fired me and I'm like, they fired me and buddy, it's not gonna work unless you're really crying.

• 18:01Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 18:01Speaker 01

So you enjoy like doing that for, I did that for seven hours.

• 18:05Cameron Hanes?

  Brutal.

• 18:05Speaker 01

And then at one point Jeremy Piven like saw that I was losing it and he reached over and he goes, hold on guys. And he just slapped the shit out of me. He goes, go, you know, you, you have to do anything to get it going. That's a masochistic problem. Like what, what Christian Bale or Daniel Day Lewis do, where, where they're in character and they won't answer you unless you talk to them like Lincoln.

• 18:25Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 18:25Speaker 01

And they won't talk to you about anything that happened before eighteen sixty-five. I mean, hey, bro. Hey, bro. You know, you go ahead. I'm not doing that shit. I don't care. I was, I did the Joker. You don't, you, I ended up on the cutting room floor, but I was fighting that in that room with Joaquin Phoenix for five days.

• 18:43Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 18:43Speaker 01

And I'm watching that guy and watching the trance he put himself in and he never got out of it. Oh, and by the way, he was eating one apple a day and smoking cigarettes. He got down to a hundred and twenty-five pounds. You won an Oscar.

• 18:54Cameron Hanes?

  He did.

• 18:54Speaker 01

Ain't for me, man. I can't do that for three months.

• 18:57Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, I mean, I, I watched these movies, even like Mobley on the show. Now I'm watching everything going, God, what a pain in the ass that would be to shoot that scene. Cause I, you know, they did it a hundred times.

• 19:08Speaker 01

Once you do a movie, you, you'll never watch it the same again.

• 19:12Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 19:12Speaker 01

Any movie I see with water, I'm like, oh, that's gotta be miserable. Like The Reverend.

• 19:17Cameron Hanes?

They're getting just soaked over and over.

• 19:19Speaker 01

Patagonia, my buddy was Leo DiCaprio's stunt double.

• 19:22Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 19:23Speaker 01

In The Reverend and he had to be wet in that water.

• 19:26Cameron Hanes?

  Ah.

• 19:27Speaker 01

Ah, good. All day. By the way, you'll be in that water all day. You go ahead and enjoy that. That's that glacial spring water. Real, a real eye opener.

• 19:36Cameron Hanes?

We, uh, we had this Native American actor in that movie that I, that I was in.

• 19:40Speaker 01

They should be in movies. Keep going. Okay, I'm kidding.

• 19:44Cameron Hanes?

I know. Uh, but he was in The Revenant and he said they, that first initial battle scene, whatever it was, like with all the Indians dying and everything. That they practiced that for months before they shot it.

• 19:56Speaker 01

  Of course.

• 19:57Cameron Hanes?

  Months.

• 19:58Speaker 01

  Uh huh.

• 19:59Cameron Hanes?

  Insane.

• 20:00Speaker 01

And then you gotta worry about how you do it and everything else because it's a lot of action.

• 20:03Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 20:04Speaker 01

And then there's editing. I mean, makeup has to be the makeup, your, your, everything's gotta be just right, too.

• 20:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 20:10Speaker 01

Like, your hair was over here that time. Your hair's gotta be here, otherwise it's not gonna match.

• 20:14Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, and now, and now it's like, okay, so that was the one shot you'd have to be in front of, like, on the big screen in front of millions of people. Now, you can do that online. You know what I mean? You can do that if that's, if you wanna get in front of people and like, deliver a message or impact people, you don't need a movie.

• 20:35Speaker 01

  I know.

• 20:36Cameron Hanes?

So, i- it's like kind of a weird time.

• 20:37Speaker 01

  It's killed movies.

• 20:38Cameron Hanes?

  It's killed, but, but.

• 20:40Speaker 01

It's killed celebrity, it's killed movies.

• 20:41Cameron Hanes?

  Crazy.

• 20:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:43Cameron Hanes?

Crazy. And you know what thing, here's what I hate right now, this trend that's going on. So you know the Haok Tua girl or whatever the.

• 20:52Cameron Hanes?

Now it's like all these guys out there interviewing people out partying and trying to get girls to talk about some sexual thing. I'm just like, oh my god.

• 21:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:01Cameron Hanes?

  Cause they, it worked once.

• 21:03Speaker 01

  I know.

• 21:03Cameron Hanes?

So now it's like, it's, we gotta get another viral one. And you just, all these, just like, it just is miserable to watch.

• 21:12Speaker 01

Yeah, it's the cult of the amateur.

• 21:14Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 21:14Speaker 01

And that's not my saying, that's, there's a, I think a book written about that. And, and it's just, everybody who has a camera has, has a, you know, and then you, what you get is not quality, but vulgarity, which is what spectacle is. And you, you have to understand the difference, you know, spectacle and a, of, almost a fetish for vulgarity is what has become synonymous with American culture. And the American lost, which is what a lot of these kids are, they're the lost generation. They, they've, it's, it's, it's not even their fault, their algorithm is lying to them. It's giving them a reality that, you know, they, that isn't a reality.

• 21:56Speaker 01

It's just confirming their bias or controlling or pushing them in one particular direction as a group.

• 22:02Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 22:02Speaker 01

So that they're all together saying the same thing. And it's going on to the degree where, you know, I, I, I think, you know, it's a little bit like that, that boiling frog metaphor, you know, when you throw a frog in boiling water, it jumps out, but if you heat the water slowly, it just dies. And I, I think. When you live in a culture that doesn't make you feel good about yourself, and that makes you feel um as though the only way to get ahead is to create some discomfort, or to amplify your fake monologue, or to say something so outrageous like Kanye, uh who's totally ignorant of history and he probably, he's not to be excused because he knows better.

• 22:47Speaker 01

But, but guess what? Doesn't matter. I'm trending, bro. I'm trending.

• 22:52Cameron Hanes?

  This, yeah.

• 22:52Speaker 01

And that's, that's that sort of uh, that sort of downward spiral where everybody's competing toward hell and not toward something higher than themselves. I think, you know, as I get older, I've read all the philosophy, but as I get older, I, I, I have way more respect for faith. And in particular Judeo-Christian ethic, the notion that there's, there is something about aspiring to something that you cannot measure. There's something about aspiring to perfection. And by the way, not, not for you, but for something bigger than you.

• 23:34Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 23:34Speaker 01

Okay, like the reason we had great architecture, I would argue back in the day. If you look at an architecture today, it's all about the architect. You know, the, the great, you know, the great uh structures that we go to Florence, et cetera, to go look at. Well, they were built, they were being built for, in service of something larger than themselves. I mean, look at the magazines that, and everything that you see online, it's all apathetic. Why is it that everything I look at is all about, you know, um, this is, this'll help you live longer. This'll help you get stronger. This helps you look better. Hey, man, I don't want that shit anymore.

• 24:16Speaker 01

I start to feel like I'm under a lamp, like a piece of steak in Vegas at a big buffet. Just being grilled down. It's not inspiring. I'm just a snake eating my own tail. I wanna know about shit that, that, I wanna know about shit that has nothing to do with me. I wanna know about things that are a mystery to me still. The artistic scene somewhere, or whatever it is. That's important to reach beyond yourself. It's a great way to get out of your depression, in my opinion.

• 24:41Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, and I, I don't wonder.

• 24:42Speaker 01

You haven't been writing any of this shit down.

• 24:44Cameron Hanes?

  No, we're getting it.

• 24:45Speaker 01

  Oh, are you?

• 24:46Cameron Hanes?

  Transfer coming. Yeah, this is.

• 24:48Speaker 01

Heavy. Your audience is probably scribbling really hard now.

• 24:51Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, they are.

• 24:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:52Cameron Hanes?

  This is obviously live.

• 24:53Speaker 01

  Oh, it is fantastic.

• 24:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 24:55Speaker 01

  Thank God.

• 24:56Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, but to your point about.

• 24:58Speaker 01

  I'm not wearing pants. What?

• 25:00Cameron Hanes?

About architecture and and now it's like, when are the beautiful buildings being built anymore? You know, it's like now it's so it's like it's about efficiency and.

• 25:09Speaker 01

That's right. I was about to say efficiency.

• 25:10Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. And it's just like, what?

• 25:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's about flow.

• 25:13Cameron Hanes?

  Beauty. How about, you know,

• 25:17Cameron Hanes?

impacting somebody's soul when they see it? You know, it's like so something where you're just like looking and going, you can't say anything. When does that should happen on anything now that's being built?

• 25:29Speaker 01

One of the great ideas of philosophy is the notion that truth and beauty are synonymous. It's a great contribution to to philosophy. The notion that, you know, beauty is something to strive for. And beauty is exactly that thing that causes you to realize that. It I think when you see great beauty, I think when you see, when you hear a beautiful song or or St. Peter's Cathedral, you know, or the Sistine Chapel, or or you watch a movie that's just amazing, you forget for a second that you're human. You know, this is what Schopenhauer and Nietzsche were talking about, this idea of high relief. You you get into a a trance where you forget for a second

• 26:13Speaker 01

that you have to go to the bathroom, that you have to have sex, that you have to eat. All that stuff becomes suspended. And for a moment there, to your point, you can't even speak. You might the all you'll be able to do is manage maybe to cry or laugh or just be awed. You'll just be awed, the kind of awe that brings your head up and opens your mouth because you don't know what else to do.

• 26:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 26:35Speaker 01

And and and that those moments are what I think get you to believe in something like God.

• 26:41Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 26:41Speaker 01

Something that we do that you can't measure and you just say, human beings are so magnificent. Like, how are human beings, they're capable of terrible cruelty and destruction, but they're also capable of things like Shakespeare and Mozart and Beethoven and, you know, the things that we stay alive for, you know? And I I think that that part of going back to what you were saying, when it becomes about clicks and likes and, you know, getting attention and more eyeballs on you.

• 27:12Speaker 01

  You get the Kardashians.

• 27:14Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 27:15Speaker 01

You get women who have so much plastic surgery with all due respect that they all look the same.

• 27:22Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, isn't that, so you, you talked about, you know, beauty can like kind of suspend time. You know, whether it was acting and you see whatever, whatever something to create beauty. Do you think women are trying to do that themselves, you know, so you know, when you've seen like, there's been women that you've seen, you're just like, they seem flawless.

• 27:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:45Cameron Hanes?

And that is what you're talking about, like, or art or whatever, but you can't replicate that. But we're trying to replicate it.

• 27:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:53Cameron Hanes?

And you see, you see the women who maybe are beautiful in their own way, but now to your point earlier, you said they all look kind of the same, same kind of lips, same kind of, there's this look.

• 28:05Speaker 01

Well, there's a standard of beauty. Every society's always had a standard of beauty. And now as long as you have technology, human beings, men and women are gonna, are gonna try to look better.

• 28:15Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 28:15Speaker 01

You know, and there's a lot of pressure on women.

• 28:18Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 28:18Speaker 01

And I would even say, and people call it blame society, I think there's an instinct to preen. I think there's a mating instinct there. There's, there's a genetic, there's a genetic biological evolutionary sort of

• 28:31Speaker 01

compulsion, a primal urge to showcase a woman, especially when she's in her mating years and men are in their mating years. You know, men, you know, that, that spring scene song, the girls comb their hair in rear view mirrors and the boys try to look so hard.

• 28:47Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 28:47Speaker 01

  You know, it's, it's, it's, it's that old.

• 28:49Cameron Hanes?

  It's never gonna change.

• 28:50Speaker 01

It's never gonna change. It's that old, you know, fantastic thing where guys get bigger and they overeat and they try to get their shoulders and their chest big and, and, and women are putting all this filler in their lips and, and makeup on and, and raising their heels so that their ass is, you know, that's all that stuff.

• 29:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 29:10Speaker 01

That, that, that will probably only get more accentuated as we get more technologically advanced. And I, I, I think that the way out of.

• 29:24Speaker 01

Looking exactly the same. We're probably in the dark ages still of that. So people are all gonna like, I think people will be able to pick and choose, but I think that there is a liability to perfection. There is a liability to physical perfection because entropy is entropy. You're not going to hold on to that forever.

• 29:38Cameron Hanes?

  What's entropy?

• 29:39Speaker 01

Entropy is the idea of disorder, right? It's as, as you, I'm really educated.

• 29:44Cameron Hanes?

You are, you are. Yeah, I'm, I'm picking up like every fourth word.

• 29:48Speaker 01

I know, I know you are.

• 29:49Cameron Hanes?

So it's like when you see me like looking blank and looking around.

• 29:52Speaker 01

Why do you not call me sensei though? I don't understand.

• 29:55Cameron Hanes?

  That is odd.

• 29:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 29:56Cameron Hanes?

  I, I don't, I think I'm confused myself with all these words.

• 30:00Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm, I'm gonna teach you some Kung Fu.

• 30:03Cameron Hanes?

  Sorry, sensei.

• 30:04Speaker 01

Yeah, that's better. I like when you look down too.

• 30:06Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, yes.

• 30:08Speaker 01

There you go, there you go.

• 30:10Cameron Hanes?

So tell me like, when we talk about that this, the chase for the beauty, like I think of, uh, Brian Johnson who said he's gonna live forever, right? I look at him, he looks like a fucking vampire. I mean, is this like, what, am I supposed to wanna look like this? You look terrible.

• 30:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:27Cameron Hanes?

  You look awful.

• 30:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:29Cameron Hanes?

  What are you doing? But.

• 30:31Speaker 01

I would say that's, that's, that's a man void of any spiritual life. You know, I'm sorry.

• 30:35Cameron Hanes?

I don't know. I, I mean, living forever, sure. I guess it, it sold him a Netflix show, right? I mean, so he probably made some money, but man.

• 30:45Speaker 01

He's got enough money. Enjoy, enjoy that attention.

• 30:47Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, I, I, I, that's not how I wanna look. Point is, but tell me like, you know, we're talking about art. Tell me about comedy, because when you're talking about how for a moment there, time stands still and you forget everything. Is that, does comedy do that for people? Because.

• 31:06Speaker 01

  I think so, man.

• 31:07Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, when you're making people laugh, they're not thinking about how shitty their life is.

• 31:11Speaker 01

Well, that's what's such a privilege. Like, you know, I, I always say, you come to my show and I promise you'll laugh harder than any movie you've ever been to. And that's a guarantee. That's, that's the one thing I can say. The, the only thing I'm good at in the world is making a room full of strangers laugh. And what, what I think is amazing about comedy is that if you think about the bonds you make with your friends, right? If you think about why you like people, it's true that you share a similar set of values. You look for kindness, you look for ethics and all that, but. It's the times you laughed, man. It's the times you were on a hunting trip. You know, Rogan and I, every time we do Meat Eater, it was the, the amount of laughter that would go

• 31:52Speaker 01

on, because we're both cold and miserable. And he was my best audience, because I could just make that f**ker laugh. Yeah. And it was just always, and so much of what we did wasn't even caught on camera, because it was just like, we were both miserable, just cold and wet. But it's, that's when the humor comes out. So you remember, though, the bonds are, are, are something in that area, where you're just laughing with each other.

• 32:17Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 32:17Speaker 01

Because, because sometimes laughter is sort of the only response to the overwhelming absurdity of life, and, and the lack of control in life. You know, there's a lot of stories of people who were held hostage, and they were telling jokes.

• 32:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 32:34Speaker 01

Really. Like, it's, how do you keep yourself going? You know, and I, I love that. I mean, you, you, if you talk to these special forces guys, these tier one operators, they, they're constantly joking around.

• 32:46Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 32:46Speaker 01

Just being silly. It's all gay jokes, by the way, but still, you know, that's what it is.

• 32:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

So, I think comedy, to be sort of a professional at that craft is, is, I don't know, it's, it's fun. I've always, always liked being in this small fraternity.

• 33:04Cameron Hanes?

Mm hmm. Is, so that, that love of make, making people laugh has never waned? I mean, you did it when you were a kid.

• 33:11Speaker 01

No, isn't it funny? It's never waned, because it's a constant, so I just shot my special.

• 33:15Cameron Hanes?

You, you did, you did it as a kid to fit in, because you're changing whatever, and that was a way to be accepted. So, is it still pretty much the same thing? You're fitting in in these cities, or making people laugh, or what is the objective?

• 33:27Speaker 01

Well, it's probably reliving the trauma of having to walk into a classroom and make friends immediately.

• 33:34Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 33:34Speaker 01

You could say that I probably am doing the same thing, right? I'm kind of getting in front of a bunch of people, and reliving the trauma of my childhood under my terms, if you want to get psychological. But I don't go to therapy, so I don't give a shit about that, yeah. Like, for me, it's just such a privilege and such a surprise that I'm able to do it.

• 33:52Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 33:52Speaker 01

Like, I can't, like, again, I just shot my special at the mothership.

• 33:55Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 33:56Speaker 01

False Gods coming to YouTube soon, or somewhere.

• 33:58Cameron Hanes?

  How was it?

• 33:59Speaker 01

It was so fun. I'm editing it now, though. It's better now. Now, I'm, I'm trying to edit it. It's, it's, it's a nightmare. I hate watching myself, but I think it's

• 34:07Cameron Hanes?

How many, how many shows did you record?

• 34:08Speaker 01

  Just two.

• 34:09Cameron Hanes?

  Two.

• 34:09Speaker 01

Yeah. I'd like to redo it. I'd like to do it, but I'm happy with it. It's better now.

• 34:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 34:17Speaker 01

But like, I have to, now I'm starting all over again. I've got to start a whole new hour.

• 34:23Cameron Hanes?

Is this the new hour or is this the?

• 34:25Speaker 01

This is gonna be a mix of hybrids.

• 34:27Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 34:27Speaker 01

Yeah, it'll be a whole, I got a bunch of new stuff.

• 34:30Cameron Hanes?

It's such a process, getting that, getting it out there, tweaking it, getting it dialed in perfect, delivering it for the show on film.

• 34:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 34:39Cameron Hanes?

  It's, man, what a.

• 34:41Speaker 01

And hitting every note and then going back and going, damn it, I didn't get that, I forgot that tag.

• 34:45Cameron Hanes?

  I know.

• 34:45Speaker 01

  Oh, it kills you.

• 34:47Cameron Hanes?

When Theo was here, he had one and he forgot one line of the joke.

• 34:52Speaker 01

  And it killed him.

• 34:53Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, and he was like, he was pretty depressed.

• 34:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 34:57Cameron Hanes?

I mean, he thought he did terrible.

• 34:58Speaker 01

Theo always thinks he does terrible.

• 35:00Cameron Hanes?

I said, you fucking killed it.

• 35:02Speaker 01

I've never, I've never been with Theo where he doesn't go off stage and goes, ah, wasn't that good? I'm like, Theo, you crushed.

• 35:06Cameron Hanes?

  No, I think he.

• 35:07Speaker 01

He opened for me and during my special, same thing.

• 35:09Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, did he?

• 35:10Speaker 01

Like, I was like, Theo, what are you talking about? You're, I couldn't even watch you, you were taking me out of my game. You're making me laugh so hard.

• 35:15Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, he's pretty hard on himself, isn't he?

• 35:17Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 35:18Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, but no, he, everybody here had a great time. He was focused on that part that he missed, or he wasn't as tight as normal, which of course, nobody Eugene knew.

• 35:27Speaker 01

  I know.

• 35:27Cameron Hanes?

Cause we hadn't seen any of the other shows.

• 35:28Speaker 01

You feel it as a comic, you know?

• 35:30Cameron Hanes?

And it's like, I, I felt bad for him, but it's such a, what a hard job, dude.

• 35:36Speaker 01

I don't know, I've seen you, I remember the, I remember, I think about you because I remember when you shot a grizzly bear, a giant grizzly bear with a bow and arrow. And if you had missed, it would have been catastrophic.

• 35:50Cameron Hanes?

  Maybe.

• 35:52Speaker 01

  I mean.

• 35:52Cameron Hanes?

If it's like, this is, so here's, here's a skull.

• 35:56Speaker 01

Yeah, that's a hard job. That's, yeah, that's a problem. And that's why when I, so when a bear comes at me, it's this and it's that, and I hold the mouth closed.

• 36:07Cameron Hanes?

Until what, they get exhausted or they pass out?

• 36:10Speaker 01

  I'm covering his nose.

• 36:11Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, pass out.

• 36:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 36:13Cameron Hanes?

  So it's like a chokehold?

• 36:14Speaker 01

Yeah, but then I look right into his eye and he sees the intensity in my eyes and he knows what time it is.

• 36:20Cameron Hanes?

And does he, you let him go and he runs away?

• 36:23Speaker 01

There's a new sheriff in the forest, of course I do, I don't kill him.

• 36:25Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 36:26Speaker 01

I just go, shh, oh, what, I did, I did that.

• 36:31Cameron Hanes?

  And then there it goes.

• 36:32Speaker 01

  And there he goes.

• 36:33Cameron Hanes?

  Wow.

• 36:33Speaker 01

Yeah. Don't try that at home. Do not try that. Don't try that, dude.

• 36:38Cameron Hanes?

I mean, do you feel a little bit like Jesus in that moment?

• 36:43Speaker 01

So I would never call myself Jesus. I will say that the media calls me comedy Jesus because I give so much.

• 36:51Cameron Hanes?

  But you don't.

• 36:52Speaker 01

  I would never do that.

• 36:53Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 36:53Speaker 01

I would never do that. I'm also built a little differently than Jesus, you know? I mean, my shoulders are pretty broad and they tend to taper over my waist. You know what I mean? They float over my waist.

• 37:03Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 37:03Speaker 01

Have you seen me, uh, train?

• 37:06Cameron Hanes?

  No.

• 37:06Speaker 01

  No, you haven't.

• 37:08Cameron Hanes?

  No.

• 37:08Speaker 01

Cause I do it underground. That was a trick question. Yeah. When it comes to karate and kung fu.

• 37:13Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 37:14Speaker 01

Why are you laughing? Why is your guy laughing over there?

• 37:16Cameron Hanes?

  He's not laughing.

• 37:17Speaker 01

Okay. Cause I feel like he's not taking me seriously. We're trying to, we're talking about, I've dropped Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, a lot of stuff.

• 37:24Cameron Hanes?

He's probably sticking his fingers in his ass over there. He doesn't even know what he's doing.

• 37:26Speaker 01

He's sitting on one of his hands. He's got three digits and he's knocked deep in his shitter right now.

• 37:31Cameron Hanes?

  That's what he's laughing at.

• 37:32Speaker 01

Why is he smelling his hands? This is fucked up. He's smelling his fingers, dude. That's not appropriate. You're, he's a closet freak.

• 37:38Cameron Hanes?

That's James Gideon Williams for you right there in the flesh.

• 37:41Speaker 01

  Hepatitis digits over there.

• 37:43Cameron Hanes?

So when you leave, don't shake his hand. That's what I have to tell everybody.

• 37:47Speaker 01

I won't. It's not my fetish. Jesus, he's tall and handsome though.

• 37:52Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. He, I think he said at one time, did you say you looked like Clark Gable?

• 37:58Speaker 02

Who the fuck is Clark Gable?

• 37:59Cameron Hanes?

No, he said he looked like Clark Gable.

• 38:01Speaker 01

  Yeah. Clark Kent, maybe.

• 38:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 38:04Speaker 01

Yeah. I don't think you do. No offense, but yeah. You're the Oregonian version. You're the Eugene version of Clark Kent.

• 38:11Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 38:12Speaker 01

  Just a giant white guy.

• 38:15Cameron Hanes?

I think he looks like Kathy, Kathy Griffin.

• 38:17Speaker 01

He does have the same coloring.

• 38:19Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. Do you know who that is? She held up Trump's head. Remember that? That didn't go over too well.

• 38:25Speaker 01

Yeah. Never really recovered from that. That was, that was not good.

• 38:29Cameron Hanes?

  Poor PR.

• 38:30Speaker 01

  Uh, yeah.

• 38:31Cameron Hanes?

That, that didn't work out. I'm gonna put, are you done? Are you done with this?

• 38:35Speaker 01

That's a giant skull. How much did that thing weigh?

• 38:39Cameron Hanes?

I don't know, because we had to cut it up to get it out, but it was nine foot, six inches from nose to tail.

• 38:45Speaker 01

  My god.

• 38:46Cameron Hanes?

  So.

• 38:46Speaker 01

  Nine foot, six inches.

• 38:48Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 38:49Speaker 01

The paws were stupid. Is that the picture I've seen?

• 38:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah, or I'm holding it up.

• 38:52Speaker 01

  My god.

• 38:54Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it's they're giant animals. But yeah, it's uh, it's intense. So on that, the hunt you're talking about, that was that bear.

• 39:02Speaker 01

  That's a heavy skull, dude.

• 39:06Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. And so this, this is so thick right here, like even a bullet could ricochet off that.

• 39:11Speaker 01

  Is that right?

• 39:12Cameron Hanes?

That has happened before because of that angle and it's so thick.

• 39:15Speaker 01

  My god.

• 39:16Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. No, it's um, they're, they're legit animals.

• 39:20Speaker 01

  They're legit animals.

• 39:21Cameron Hanes?

But that's, to me, um, you know, the things you love the most, they make you feel most alive. When I'm closing in on an animal like that with my bow, that's what does it for me.

• 39:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:36Cameron Hanes?

  That, that moment, because.

• 39:38Speaker 01

What is it though? Is it, is it the idea of, is it the accuracy you're trying to accomplish? Or is it the, the state of flow you get into?

• 39:48Cameron Hanes?

  It's the stakes.

• 39:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:49Cameron Hanes?

It's just, the stakes don't get any higher.

• 39:52Speaker 01

  Right.

• 39:52Cameron Hanes?

I'm with a bow trying to kill.

• 39:54Speaker 01

A buffalo, a water buffalo or a grizzly bear. That's so crazy.

• 39:58Cameron Hanes?

Yeah. And it's just like, to me, the stakes of whether that goes good or bad, not knowing what's going to happen, that. Just that unknown.

• 40:07Speaker 01

What kind of, what pound test do you use in a bow when you're killing an animal like that?

• 40:11Cameron Hanes?

That bow is a 90 pound bow, but you know, like an 80, that, that shot was a frontal, uh, went in right here, a little bit about an inch to the right of where I wanted to hit. But um, an 80 pound bow would have probably done that too, but I, I shoot a pretty heavy bow, but just because I hunt big animals.

• 40:28Speaker 01

Well, 90 pounds is very difficult to pull back.

• 40:30Cameron Hanes?

  Very difficult.

• 40:31Speaker 01

Yeah, you gotta work on that.

• 40:32Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah. I mean, you could do it.

• 40:34Speaker 01

  Yeah, naturally.

• 40:35Cameron Hanes?

  With both hands, both like.

• 40:37Speaker 01

What with my back and all?

• 40:39Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, the snakes.

• 40:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:40Cameron Hanes?

  Remember that?

• 40:41Speaker 01

I bench pressed my body weight.

• 40:42Cameron Hanes?

  What?

• 40:43Speaker 01

  Yeah, thanks guys.

• 40:44Cameron Hanes?

  How many times?

• 40:45Speaker 01

Just once, I'm a little tired. I'm not a big bencher. Thanks for laughing again.

• 40:51Cameron Hanes?

  You know.

• 40:52Speaker 01

That guy's still on his fingers.

• 40:53Cameron Hanes?

He had shit on his finger.

• 40:55Speaker 01

  No.

• 40:56Cameron Hanes?

  He's laughing at it.

• 40:57Speaker 01

At least keep your mud whistle clean, for God's sake, if it's your fetish. Anyway.

• 41:02Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 41:02Speaker 01

  Sorry.

• 41:03Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, so it's a, yeah, you could do it easy for sure, but I think the same feeling would be like when you come out on stage, is that when you feel most alive?

• 41:14Cameron Hanes?

Or when do you feel most alive?

• 41:15Speaker 01

So what happens after a while for me probably is I don't get nervous, you know, it's, the nerves go away. It's just what I do, but what I'm, what I, what I like is the, being in the business of original self-expression. I like surprising myself. I love the idea that I come up with an idea. So, so for me, like, what I'm doing is I, I come up with these different ideas. I'm writing stuff. I don't know what it is. I, I have this new thing. I have a Chinese friend. I don't even know why I'm talking about it, but I have a Chinese friend. And what does that mean in relation to my white friends? And what about Chinese people? And then, uh, uh, and then there's this impulse to be unhealthy and this world is very healthy. I don't know where I'm going with it.

• 41:57Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 41:57Speaker 01

But I'll just keep following that thread. And what's fun is after two years, maybe three years, I'll have an hour. And then you step back and look at it and you go, wait, there's a theme here. There's an argument for how one should behave in the world in here. Or there's a, there's a philosophy in here, or there's a point of view in here. And how did that make it through? How did my subconscious?

• 42:21Cameron Hanes?

  Create this.

• 42:22Speaker 01

How did that? Yes. So, so it's almost like the, the one hour already exists and I'm just trying to keep showing up.

• 42:28Cameron Hanes?

  Pulling it out.

• 42:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:29Cameron Hanes?

  It's there.

• 42:30Speaker 01

Yeah. So you, you know, Harlan Williams was talking about this. We just did a podcast on my groundbreaking podcast, Off Limits. And he, uh, sorry.

• 42:39Cameron Hanes?

See that pause? That's good for cutting.

• 42:41Speaker 01

Yeah, it doesn't matter. Off Limits. And so, and he was talking about the comedy spirit, right? And the one thing I, we agreed on is that I know, I know, no matter what, if I sit for long enough, something's gonna come. And that's a great feeling to know that something is gonna come and it's gonna surprise me. And I'm gonna laugh at it. And if I laugh at it, the audience is gonna laugh at it. And so that, that process, that process of discovery, of showing up until it, it reveals itself to me, never gets old. That's what I get off on. You know? And also thinking about you running naked, but other than that.

• 43:20Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, those two things.

• 43:21Speaker 01

I shouldn't have said that out loud.

• 43:22Cameron Hanes?

  Those two things.

• 43:23Speaker 01

Yeah. It annoys me that you're, it annoys me for a second. We'll get back to what we were talking about. That you cut your elks basically in half. Like, just cut him at the neck, bro. Why do you have to have his haunches there?

• 43:35Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, and like, so wasted half the meat.

• 43:37Speaker 01

You wasted half the meat, which is an outrage.

• 43:39Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that is sad. But if anything happens in the world and it's gets a crisis, I can come in here and get this elk meat.

• 43:47Speaker 01

You know? Yeah, it's gonna be a little tough, but I appreciate that. You're very smart, buddy. How many else have you killed?

• 43:52Cameron Hanes?

  Uh, I, I don't know.

• 43:54Speaker 01

You have a lot of elk meat in the freezer?

• 43:56Cameron Hanes?

  I do.

• 43:56Speaker 01

  Yeah. You live on elk?

• 43:58Cameron Hanes?

Did you have a question? Oh, oh, I thought you were raising your hand. Um, that's Brian's eye candy over there.

• 44:06Speaker 01

  A photographer.

• 44:08Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, what was I gonna say?

• 44:09Speaker 01

  Who's married.

• 44:10Cameron Hanes?

  And you're married?

• 44:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:12Cameron Hanes?

But you still be eye candy.

• 44:14Speaker 01

Although she is, she's very talented and she's very, very attractive. I, I, at my age, I don't, I don't, uh, I don't make, I make sure I don't flirt even a little bit because I feel a little bit creepy to be this age.

• 44:24Cameron Hanes?

  I don't.

• 44:24Speaker 01

How old are you? Thirty, yeah, yeah, yeah. My wife is thirty-five, so if you're thirty, I'm, there's, there's, I, I'm very careful to be very, uh, you know, I don't know, almost like a librarian, hello.

• 44:36Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, I don't even, I didn't even, I don't see sex. I don't know whether that's a man or a woman.

• 44:41Speaker 01

I know, and that's what I love about you.

• 44:42Cameron Hanes?

I just knew she was eye, or it was eye candy.

• 44:44Speaker 01

  She's, she's non-binary.

• 44:46Cameron Hanes?

  That's great.

• 44:47Speaker 01

But Kel is a very good photographer.

• 44:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, great.

• 44:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:50Cameron Hanes?

That's great. Um, you know what's funny? I have. A child older than her.

• 44:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:58Cameron Hanes?

  That's crazy.

• 44:59Speaker 01

  Isn't that crazy?

• 44:59Cameron Hanes?

So that's either she's crazy young.

• 45:01Speaker 01

Yeah, no, thirty is not young. I mean, it's young.

• 45:03Cameron Hanes?

No, I think that's crazy young.

• 45:05Speaker 01

  Well, to us it is.

• 45:05Cameron Hanes?

Because otherwise, that would make me old.

• 45:09Speaker 01

Well, you're, are you fifty seven or fifty eight?

• 45:11Cameron Hanes?

  Fifty seven.

• 45:12Speaker 01

  So I'm fifty eight.

• 45:13Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm, so you're.

• 45:15Speaker 01

I'm old, but my, and my wife is thirty five.

• 45:18Cameron Hanes?

  Does that pee still work?

• 45:20Speaker 01

It does, it does still work because my testosterone, because I go heavy in the gym and I go deep. You know what I'm saying?

• 45:26Cameron Hanes?

  Like astagras?

• 45:28Speaker 01

Yeah, astagras, bro. So my pelvic region.

• 45:30Cameron Hanes?

Don't mention ass around James. He'll put your, his fingers up.

• 45:33Speaker 01

I can smell his fingers from here. Little sewer pickles.

• 45:36Speaker 02

  It's my fist now.

• 45:37Speaker 01

It's your fist now, God. Jesus, that's so hot. I mean, disgusting.

• 45:42Cameron Hanes?

  He's aggressive.

• 45:43Speaker 01

Yeah, but back to, uh, back to, what were we talking about?

• 45:46Cameron Hanes?

  Astagras?

• 45:47Speaker 01

Yeah, astagras. Yeah, my, my pee pee does still work. I've never done testosterone. Hmm. But my test is high.

• 45:55Cameron Hanes?

You know what? I knew you hadn't done testosterone. I mean, I just, I mean, I appreciate you told me that, but you didn't have to.

• 46:02Speaker 01

No, I, yeah, I know. I know. And that's another dig at me.

• 46:07Cameron Hanes?

No, no, no. That was just observation.

• 46:09Speaker 01

I've also not had my face tightened. So you're probably wondering why my skin seems to, uh, seems to be as tight as a saddle.

• 46:16Cameron Hanes?

I'm not, I don't even know what Brendan calls you.

• 46:19Speaker 01

He calls me rink and you do know. He calls me rinks and you do know.

• 46:22Cameron Hanes?

Why would he call you rinks?

• 46:23Speaker 01

And see, you're being shitty again. And I don't appreciate, I'm a guest on your podcast. I drove all the way out here. And I'm surrounded by these animals and I'm a vegan and frankly, it's traumatizing.

• 46:34Cameron Hanes?

  Are you getting emotional?

• 46:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:36Cameron Hanes?

I felt like your voice is cracking.

• 46:38Speaker 01

  I ain't emotional. That's good acting.

• 46:40Cameron Hanes?

  That, well, that was good.

• 46:41Speaker 01

Fine. I guess you don't even care about me.

• 46:43Cameron Hanes?

But that role is super easy for you to play with your low T.

• 46:47Speaker 01

Yeah, but I said I had high T, remember? So you got it. So, yeah, but, but I can play low T.

• 46:51Cameron Hanes?

  What is your T?

• 46:53Speaker 01

My T, you want to know the truth?

• 46:54Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 46:55Speaker 01

So this is from Tony Robbins, uh, is, uh, thing in Naples and from Rapid Health with Dan Garner and Andy Galpin. And Craig Ventures place in San Diego.

• 47:06Cameron Hanes?

  Is this a plug?

• 47:07Speaker 01

No, I'm just, I just had these long. And long drawn out checkups and they were like, you are immortal, but it doesn't matter. But my T was nine seventy three.

• 47:19Cameron Hanes?

  Holy shit.

• 47:20Speaker 01

Then it was nine eighty two, I think. And then it was eleven hundred. And I sent that to Rogan.

• 47:27Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 47:27Speaker 01

And he goes bullshit. And I go, well, then take it up with the fucking lab, bro.

• 47:32Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 47:32Speaker 01

All right. Now that's one reading. I don't know what my free test. I've had bodybuilders tell me I'm full of shit. And you gotta go, we gotta do. All right, fine. I just know I have a lot of energy. You know what I'm saying?

• 47:43Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 47:44Speaker 01

Especially I'm buzzing down there. I'm buzzing.

• 47:48Cameron Hanes?

Down what down where? Like in South California?

• 47:51Speaker 01

  Downstairs, in my downstairs area.

• 47:53Cameron Hanes?

  In the basement?

• 47:54Speaker 01

  In my naughty place.

• 47:55Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 47:56Speaker 01

Yeah. You know what I mean?

• 47:58Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 47:58Speaker 01

My three piece set, the baby bird.

• 48:00Cameron Hanes?

We're talking about the, what do we call that? Vain laden yogurt slinger? You ever heard that?

• 48:06Speaker 01

Disgusting. I, I, sir, I'm an artist. I mean, I'm, I'm an artist and I'm doing your podcast. Can we keep it? Above the table.

• 48:16Cameron Hanes?

  That was.

• 48:17Speaker 01

  Unbelievable, dude.

• 48:19Cameron Hanes?

  That was.

• 48:19Speaker 01

Well, you have a reputation. You're a hunter. You're a, an endurance athlete. People look up to you.

• 48:24Cameron Hanes?

  I was out of line.

• 48:25Speaker 01

  Yogurt slinger?

• 48:27Cameron Hanes?

  Vain laden.

• 48:28Speaker 01

  A vain laden yogurt slinger.

• 48:30Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 48:30Speaker 01

  And that is just appalling.

• 48:32Cameron Hanes?

  And I feel awful.

• 48:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:35Cameron Hanes?

  I do. I, I feel, I'm embarrassed.

• 48:38Speaker 01

I know. Yes, it looks like yogurt, but it's not. It's not. I call it baby batter, but keep going.

• 48:47Speaker 01

I should, we should end and I should never do a podcast again after that. That should be the last thing that I ever say. I should run up the mountain and just disappear.

• 48:57Cameron Hanes?

  Off into the whatever.

• 49:00Speaker 01

So my kids can be like, my dad, the last thing he said.

• 49:04Speaker 01

  Just the most uninspiring death.

• 49:06Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that'd be good. Well, we got it on about six different cameras. So what if your family, if they need different angles?

• 49:12Speaker 01

This will live forever. Yeah. Thanks for the warm cup of coffee.

• 49:16Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 49:16Speaker 01

  You're a real host.

• 49:18Cameron Hanes?

  Is it warm still?

• 49:21Cameron Hanes?

You've been nursing that shit. Mine was hot. You're like getting so into your art.

• 49:26Speaker 01

  A lot of coffee?

• 49:27Cameron Hanes?

  All day, every day.

• 49:28Speaker 01

  You do, right?

• 49:28Cameron Hanes?

  All day, every day.

• 49:29Speaker 01

  What about nicotine?

• 49:31Cameron Hanes?

I tried to do some nicotine. So the other day I did a race and then I had to get an IV and then they said, hey, do you want to do some NAD plus? And I'm like, yeah, do it. And they're like, do you want it full bore? And I'm like, I said, well, why, why wouldn't you? And they said, well, it could feel like somebody sitting on your chest type, whatever. And have you ever done NAD plus?

• 49:53Speaker 01

  I don't buy it.

• 49:54Cameron Hanes?

Whatever. But at the same time, I said, yeah, send it. James gave me a zen.

• 50:02Speaker 01

Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Oh, boy.

• 50:05Cameron Hanes?

  Plus, I was already sick.

• 50:06Speaker 01

No, you're gonna throw up. Oh, dude.

• 50:08Cameron Hanes?

I, I immediately melted into the couch and there's just like throwing the zen out, pulling the IVs out. Yeah.

• 50:16Speaker 01

I smoke cigars. That's my nicotine. Once in a while. I like smoking a cigar. You don't drink, do you? Cause I do drink.

• 50:23Cameron Hanes?

  No.

• 50:23Speaker 01

I've, I've decided I'm gonna be unhealthy. I've decided I'm gonna start drinking scotch, smoking cigars. I don't take a multivitamin. How about that? I don't even take my creatine anymore.

• 50:33Cameron Hanes?

You know what? That means you're gonna get a lot of tail. If you're just scotch cigars.

• 50:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:40Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, that's confidence.

• 50:41Speaker 01

Yeah, but I'm, I'm married and I'm gonna lose my house. That's the problem. So I don't know if it's worth it. Yeah.

• 50:48Cameron Hanes?

  I mean, it depends.

• 50:49Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah. No, no.

• 50:50Cameron Hanes?

  You know what I mean?

• 50:51Speaker 01

Yeah, no, I don't know if it depends. My, I've got, I don't, I can't afford another palimony. You understand? Yeah.

• 50:58Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 50:58Speaker 01

Yeah. So I've got to be a.

• 51:00Cameron Hanes?

So they make you pay multiple almoons?

• 51:03Speaker 01

  Oh, in California?

• 51:04Cameron Hanes?

It's not just one, like one will.

• 51:06Speaker 01

Well, I have, I've been married once. That's alimony.

• 51:09Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 51:10Speaker 01

Happy to pay it. Get along great with my ex.

• 51:12Cameron Hanes?

You are happy to pay it?

• 51:13Speaker 01

Well, I mean, it's my, it's the mother of my children. So, you know, so you gotta pay it. And then I got married again, decided to get married in my 50s, which is smart, and then have two more kids. You know what I mean? So that I can really keep the pressure on and I can keep hustling. Do I get paid for this?

• 51:27Cameron Hanes?

  You're not done, dude.

• 51:29Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 51:29Cameron Hanes?

You know, guys can have kids.

• 51:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 51:32Cameron Hanes?

I mean, you got a whole nother family to start.

• 51:33Speaker 01

Yeah, I want to be like Elon Musk. So you're saying maybe just, you know, maybe blow that marriage up as well.

• 51:38Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 51:38Speaker 01

And then just stack the bills on and then get married to someone else.

• 51:43Cameron Hanes?

  I would, yeah.

• 51:44Speaker 01

I feel like you're in my corner on this. I don't have the energy.

• 51:48Cameron Hanes?

  I know. It's exhausting.

• 51:50Speaker 01

  I mean, I don't have the energy.

• 51:52Cameron Hanes?

  One relationship is exhausting.

• 51:54Speaker 01

My wife was like, I, I was out, you know, and she was in the hotel room and she's like, I know that girl likes you. And I was doing this thing and, and I was like, and, and what? And what? Do you think I had the energy to have an affair? Do you think I would take that chance in a million years? Exhaust. It ain't happening.

• 52:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 52:17Speaker 01

Here's my phone. Take a look. You got my, you got, she's got my code and everything. Take a look.

• 52:24Cameron Hanes?

I think affairs are for young people. I don't think, yeah.

• 52:28Speaker 01

You get older and you know, no.

• 52:29Cameron Hanes?

  No, no.

• 52:30Speaker 01

Not a shot. I can appreciate beautiful women.

• 52:33Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 52:34Speaker 01

I mean, I look at them and it's fantastic, but it's, no.

• 52:38Cameron Hanes?

Well, it's like looking at art.

• 52:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:41Cameron Hanes?

  I mean, so.

• 52:41Speaker 01

Yeah. When you're younger, you're like, you know, and you're, yeah.

• 52:44Cameron Hanes?

You'd want to jerk off on it.

• 52:46Speaker 01

See, Cameron, I'm going to ask you, Cameron.

• 52:51Cameron Hanes?

No, I mean, like a, like a beautiful painting?

• 52:53Speaker 01

No, I've never looked at like the Mona Lisa or a beautiful painting. No, I've never wanted to do that.

• 52:59Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 53:00Speaker 01

No, no, I don't want to shoot heavy white ropes all over it. All right?

• 53:04Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 53:04Speaker 01

Okay, yeah. And I feel like, I feel like you're treating me like I'm the pariah here and I'm the, and this is a rare thing. God. What did I walk into?

• 53:14Cameron Hanes?

The point was, is like, you could appreciate beauty.

• 53:17Speaker 01

  I can.

• 53:18Cameron Hanes?

  At different.

• 53:19Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 53:19Cameron Hanes?

Points of your life for different reasons.

• 53:20Speaker 01

Yes, until you brought in yogurt slinging.

• 53:23Cameron Hanes?

Well, no, I just thought that that's what you meant.

• 53:25Speaker 01

No, I didn't mean that. Okay.

• 53:29Cameron Hanes?

  My bad.

• 53:29Speaker 01

  I apologize to everybody.

• 53:31Cameron Hanes?

I uh, I misread the room.

• 53:33Speaker 01

This podcast has really gone down the rails. You've got your producer sitting on his own fingers and you're talking about, you're desecrating art.

• 53:40Cameron Hanes?

No, I was talking about how beautiful art is.

• 53:42Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 53:42Cameron Hanes?

  Appreciating it.

• 53:43Speaker 01

  I appreciate that.

• 53:44Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 53:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:45Cameron Hanes?

  And that's just.

• 53:45Speaker 01

Do you own any art? Do you ever, are you an art guy?

• 53:48Cameron Hanes?

Not really. I mean this, this stuff, dead animals.

• 53:51Speaker 01

A lot of dead animals everywhere. I mean, after a while, it's like, it's a little, it's a little overkill on all the elk.

• 53:56Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 53:57Speaker 01

You know what I mean? You got a lot of elk. After a while, it's like, hey, bro, we got a, we got a room full of, like, we get it. We get it.

• 54:03Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 54:04Speaker 01

You know, you kill a lot of elk. Yeah.

• 54:06Cameron Hanes?

They say, it's like, aren't we good on this?

• 54:08Speaker 01

  Right.

• 54:08Cameron Hanes?

  On us? Are you good?

• 54:09Speaker 01

  And you're like, nope.

• 54:10Cameron Hanes?

Nope, I'm gonna wipe out the species until I can take the last of the species.

• 54:14Speaker 01

Yeah. You're like a guy who collects muscle cars.

• 54:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 54:17Speaker 01

And you can't get enough cars. You can't get enough elk head.

• 54:20Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 54:20Speaker 01

Yeah. I don't know what they did to you, dude. You, you killed some moose. I hear moose just sit there.

• 54:26Cameron Hanes?

  Um, sometimes.

• 54:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:28Cameron Hanes?

Killed one moose. Yeah. That's it right there.

• 54:32Speaker 01

  Um.

• 54:32Cameron Hanes?

To the right, a little bit further.

• 54:33Speaker 01

And those are, those are your stags up there?

• 54:35Cameron Hanes?

  Well, those are bucks. Yeah.

• 54:37Speaker 01

Yeah. What's the hardest animal to hunt?

• 54:40Cameron Hanes?

  Um.

• 54:40Speaker 01

  Dall sheep?

• 54:42Cameron Hanes?

  Dall sheep are pretty hard.

• 54:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:44Cameron Hanes?

Where they live. Yeah. I mean, that's that, that one that Roy's with right there.

• 54:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:48Cameron Hanes?

That was like, um, he was like 17 miles back.

• 54:52Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 54:52Cameron Hanes?

Killed that with a recurve bow.

• 54:54Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 54:55Cameron Hanes?

  Awesome ram.

• 54:56Speaker 01

How far away was the shot? Cause it's really hard to sneak up on them. They can see you.

• 55:00Cameron Hanes?

Probably like, I think it was about 25 yards.

• 55:02Speaker 01

How'd he get, how'd he get up on it?

• 55:04Cameron Hanes?

He uh, on that one, he built, so these rams were coming through on the same trail all the time. So he built like a little blind out of rocks.

• 55:13Speaker 01

  Oh, boy.

• 55:14Cameron Hanes?

And then he got stripped down to just like, uh, long johns, like white, because you can kind of decoy in those sheep. They can see white and they're like, what is that? So they're not alarmed.

• 55:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:25Cameron Hanes?

So he had basically his underwear on, plus this rock wall, and then the rams came by and he shot it.

• 55:31Speaker 01

  Was it freezing?

• 55:33Cameron Hanes?

I don't think it was that cold.

• 55:34Speaker 01

How uh, how big is that, that ram?

• 55:36Cameron Hanes?

That's a good one. I mean, I don't think it's normally like a giant would be a 40 inch around the circumference of the horns.

• 55:42Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 55:43Cameron Hanes?

Um, I don't know if that's quite that, but that's a big one.

• 55:46Speaker 01

  I hear it's good meat.

• 55:47Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, really good.

• 55:47Speaker 01

  Good eating.

• 55:48Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 55:48Speaker 01

And so he would, he would uh, dress that down.

• 55:52Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 55:52Speaker 01

And eat that whole, then how much, how much meat is that to pack out?

• 55:55Cameron Hanes?

Um, I mean, it's probably like two fifty on the hoof, so probably about. Probably like, I don't know, hundred and twenty pounds of meat.

• 56:05Speaker 01

That's a hell of a lot of meat.

• 56:07Cameron Hanes?

And then you gotta take the hide.

• 56:09Speaker 01

So you need more than one person?

• 56:11Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, uh, he wouldn't have had, he had llamas on that one. So he would pack, pack the hide. Um, head and meat down to his camp, get the llamas there, then pack it out.

• 56:22Speaker 01

  Wow, llamas.

• 56:24Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, we'd use llama, llamas are pretty cheap as, as opposed to horses. And you could buy a llama for a hundred dollars, they can carry about sixty to eighty pounds. Whereas a horse can carry a lot more, but it'll also kick you in the head and kill you.

• 56:38Speaker 01

  And llamas won't?

• 56:39Cameron Hanes?

No, they're, they're only about three hundred pounds. So you can actually push a llama around.

• 56:44Speaker 01

  Really?

• 56:44Cameron Hanes?

Where a horse, you know, a horse, I mean, even a horse that stands on your foot, breaks your foot.

• 56:48Speaker 01

  Big problems.

• 56:49Cameron Hanes?

  So it's.

• 56:49Speaker 01

So it's more dangerous to hunt with a horse?

• 56:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, horses are great because they're so strong, you can put a hundred fifty pounds on them. But they need to be taken care of every day because they need water. And they're just, if you hobble them back there, have you ever seen a horse hobbled before?

• 57:05Cameron Hanes?

They can still get around a little bit, they can hop a little bit, or if you have a long lead rope on them. They could get that wrapped around something and kind of up. It just causes, there's.

• 57:14Speaker 01

These big, powerful animals. So llamas are, um, they don't need water every day? Really? They're like camels.

• 57:21Cameron Hanes?

  Kinda, yeah.

• 57:22Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 57:23Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, so you don't, we've had them in the wilderness where we'd just leave for like a week. And be off hunting, come back, they're still fine.

• 57:31Speaker 01

But, but what about mountain lions and stuff?

• 57:33Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 57:34Speaker 01

  What about Bulma?

• 57:35Cameron Hanes?

Actually, they, so, um, ranchers who have sheep. Put llamas out there because they're a deterrent for mountain lions.

• 57:45Speaker 01

  Because they.

• 57:46Cameron Hanes?

I don't know why. I think they look so weird. I think a lion is like, what the is this thing?

• 57:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 57:51Cameron Hanes?

With a neck and all that, but whatever the case, or they're aggressive, or they just, they aren't, they're different.

• 57:57Speaker 01

Well, they know, they, they will, they know when mountain lions, so if you watch horses, you get a bunch of horses and a grizzly comes to take a horse. Those horses will run right at that grizzly. You ever seen that?

• 58:10Cameron Hanes?

  Mm-mm.

• 58:10Speaker 01

Oh, they'll run as a group. They'll be like, oh, really? How about this dude? I'm 1,200 pounds. Let's go. And they'll run right at it. They will, they will attack a hor-

• 58:18Cameron Hanes?

That's the original one gorilla 100 men.

• 58:21Speaker 01

That is the original one gorilla 100 men. By the way, dumbest thing in the world. Dumbest thing in the world. 100 men kill a gorilla with no problem.

• 58:27Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 58:27Speaker 01

It's the stupidest thing in the world. A gorilla's 500 pounds. Great. Give me the biggest, baddest gorilla in the world. Whatever you want to do. 6 feet, 100 pounds. I can kill it. 100 men? Okay. That's 20,000 pounds of man against 500 pounds. Shut up. We'll just, the first three guys are gonna get bunched up. The gorilla's gonna have an adrenaline dump. He's good for about a minute. He's gonna freak out. He's gonna bite and pull and everything else. And then, then 97 dudes are gonna pile on that gorilla and kill him. We don't have to do anything. We can just lie on him. Just pile on him until he can't breathe and he dies. That's what happens.

• 59:02Cameron Hanes?

But what men? Cause I've seen a lot of men who can't get up and fly the stairs.

• 59:10Speaker 01

Well, I'm gonna say the average man in this country is 200 pounds, almost. And they're not in shape, but if their life depends on it, they're gonna organize.

• 59:20Cameron Hanes?

But have you ever seen an animal when his life depends on staying alive?

• 59:24Speaker 01

  Yes, yes.

• 59:25Cameron Hanes?

  They got some fight.

• 59:25Speaker 01

That's right. And how long do you think a gorilla that doesn't do any cardio, is not known for its cardio, that lives on leaves and branches? How long is a gorilla gonna sustain that level of output? The answer is not long at all. All right? And human beings have a lot of endurance. You know something about endurance, don't you, Ken? So the bottom line is, that gorilla doesn't stand a chance. Not a chance.

• 59:50Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 59:50Speaker 01

And if you've got 10 Tim Kennedys against one gorilla, it's an interesting idea. It's an interesting fight. I still got 10 men.

• 59:57Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 59:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, because-

• 59:58Cameron Hanes?

  Even 10?

• 59:59Speaker 01

Because the gorilla is going to, well, that's, that's, that's tough. I don't know. Cause the gorilla can bite. And if the gorilla, you, you see, the, the real question is, can you put a human brain in a gorilla? That's the real issue. Put the human brain in the gorilla. Now the gorilla's gonna go, he's gonna, he's gonna get himself in the corner.

• 1:00:15Cameron Hanes?

  Protect protect his back.

• 1:00:16Speaker 01

He's gonna protect his back. He's gonna throw hands and he's gonna be biting.

• 1:00:20Cameron Hanes?

Do you think that they don't have some of that instinct already?

• 1:00:24Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:00:24Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:25Speaker 01

They do, but they're gonna they the gorilla like a like a chimp is gonna go from zero to a hundred. I mean, all out. And if you ever see them fight, they scream and they they grow crazy, but they're not fighters.

• 1:00:35Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:00:35Speaker 01

  They're they're.

• 1:00:36Cameron Hanes?

  Pretty intimidating, though.

• 1:00:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:39Cameron Hanes?

But do you remember like on a was that show with Tom Cruise where he said, okay, five of you, I'm gonna take out the head guy, the lead guy, then two of you are gonna run?

• 1:00:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:49Cameron Hanes?

Do you think that would happen with with the gorilla? I see like the gorilla came out hot.

• 1:00:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:54Cameron Hanes?

I'm thinking some guys would and bail.

• 1:00:59Speaker 01

Yes, but they're we're all in a room, so you can't bail for long.

• 1:01:03Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:01:03Speaker 01

And what you do is when the gorilla's got his hands full of three guys.

• 1:01:07Cameron Hanes?

Have you you've submitted a gorilla?

• 1:01:10Speaker 01

  So I was in Rwanda.

• 1:01:12Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:01:14Speaker 01

And doing some work for the government.

• 1:01:19Cameron Hanes?

What the is is somebody laughing?

• 1:01:24Speaker 01

You know, I don't appreciate it. Like, I'm trying to talk about when I was in Rwanda.

• 1:01:29Cameron Hanes?

Rwanda, you're doing some work for the government. Just ignore.

• 1:01:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, I was.

• 1:01:33Cameron Hanes?

  I apologize for that.

• 1:01:35Speaker 01

Anyway, I was doing a secret mission. I was basically keeping poachers. I was neutralizing the poacher threat. Let's just keep it at that. Let's keep it at that. I was neutralizing the poacher threat. Okay?

• 1:01:48Cameron Hanes?

And they'll never be an issue again.

• 1:01:50Speaker 01

Well, you know, kinda hard when you have a throwing star sticking out of your forehead. You know what I'm saying? All right. Or a poison dart in your fucking neck.

• 1:01:59Cameron Hanes?

  Point taken.

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

Yeah, and that and yes, and I do operate with silent weaponry.

• 1:02:04Cameron Hanes?

  Wow.

• 1:02:04Speaker 01

All right. Thank you. I'm not using fucking guns, bang, bang. I'm not using my fire stick, you know? I blend in with nature. I don't want to disturb the animals. And that's what I do. Yeah. And I did get in a in a in a muck up. I got in a muck up, little muck up with a silverback who didn't like me around his clan. And luckily, because I trained jiu jitsu, as you know, I would never be able to do anything against Gorilla, but he overcompensated. I arm dragged him, took his back, and I sat on his back because I'm a backpack, because I'm a Damian Maya backpack, all right, because I'm getting on your back. We know that.

• 1:02:44Cameron Hanes?

  Body triangle?

• 1:02:46Speaker 01

I, I, I will, I will crab up on you. His, his, his midsection was a little too thick for my legs. I have short, I have a short femur bone. Yeah, it's from my mother. This is on the inside.

• 1:02:55Cameron Hanes?

  Oh.

• 1:02:56Speaker 01

Yeah. So I couldn't do a body lock. So what I do is I crab up on him. I crab up on him and I hold on to his neck and I just take a ride. I take a ride.

• 1:03:05Cameron Hanes?

  How long did that last?

• 1:03:06Speaker 01

Huh? That took a while. And then he had a little bit of an adrenaline dump. All right. And I let him know, I gave him the old what for.

• 1:03:13Cameron Hanes?

Were you fighting for hand control? Was he trying to peel your arms?

• 1:03:16Speaker 01

I was off, I was holding on here like this, keeping my elbow tight. And I was just riding. It was just this. A lot of that.

• 1:03:22Cameron Hanes?

  Wearing him down?

• 1:03:23Speaker 01

Yeah, just keep wearing him down. Here, that's it. It's a lot like, because I used to ride rodeo.

• 1:03:27Cameron Hanes?

  Bulls?

• 1:03:28Speaker 01

I'm sponsored by Wrangler. Pretty much everything. Yeah.

• 1:03:31Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:32Speaker 01

  Hold on.

• 1:03:34Cameron Hanes?

  Bulls, Bronx.

• 1:03:36Speaker 01

  What is his name?

• 1:03:36Cameron Hanes?

  Fat Cat Girls. What?

• 1:03:38Speaker 01

  What's his name? Your producer?

• 1:03:39Cameron Hanes?

  Gideon.

• 1:03:40Speaker 01

Gideon, seriously. You know, anyway, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna talk to you about my time in Rwanda anymore because I'm not getting any respect. Why do you have a feather? Why do you have a random feather here?

• 1:03:52Cameron Hanes?

  It's a turkey feather.

• 1:03:53Speaker 01

  Oh, I shot a tom.

• 1:03:55Cameron Hanes?

  You did?

• 1:03:55Speaker 01

No, but I was with Rogan when he shot a tom. We went turkey hunting and.

• 1:03:59Cameron Hanes?

  What'd you think of it?

• 1:04:00Speaker 01

Well, I didn't enjoy it. I liked being in Napa and I like wine and good food. And I made Joe pay for all the meals, but we were.

• 1:04:08Cameron Hanes?

  He does that anyway.

• 1:04:09Speaker 01

He does. We were sitting in a blind and I had to wear a, a mask of fake leaves because turkeys can see your face. And then uh we slew a turkey, um we called one in and uh a turkey showed up and Joe shot it before I could. And then we had the turkey in the field.

• 1:04:30Cameron Hanes?

Would you say he shot it out from under you?

• 1:04:32Speaker 01

He shot it out from under me. He shot it out from under me.

• 1:04:34Cameron Hanes?

  That's sad.

• 1:04:35Speaker 01

Yeah. He, he, and I was, but you know, I was like, all right, fine.

• 1:04:39Cameron Hanes?

But he's like your kind of disciple, isn't he?

• 1:04:43Speaker 01

He's my third best student when it comes to comedy and shiatsu.

• 1:04:48Cameron Hanes?

  And life.

• 1:04:49Speaker 01

  And life.

• 1:04:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:50Speaker 01

And life. Thank you, thank you for knowing that.

• 1:04:52Cameron Hanes?

Does he pay for every meal everywhere?

• 1:04:55Speaker 01

  Yes, he does.

• 1:04:56Cameron Hanes?

Cause like, sometimes I think I'm gonna pay, but then I like, see how many people are there?

• 1:05:01Speaker 01

  I know.

• 1:05:01Cameron Hanes?

And I look at the menu and I'm like, might let this one.

• 1:05:06Speaker 01

  Yeah, I mean.

• 1:05:07Cameron Hanes?

So I'll like, hey Joe, do you wanna go get a coffee?

• 1:05:10Speaker 01

  I know.

• 1:05:11Cameron Hanes?

  Let me get this.

• 1:05:12Speaker 01

Joe, what I love about Joe is his generosity. We were in, we were in um uh Seattle and we got coffee. It was at the airport and I watched him. He just, there was a tip jar. We got coffee and he just put a hundred dollars in the tip jar, but he didn't say anything.

• 1:05:30Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:30Speaker 01

And as we were walking away, I said, that was a hundred dollars, huh? And he goes, yeah, I call that a love bomb. I give him a hundred bucks to get the [__] out of there. That's Joe. That's who Joe is when nobody's looking.

• 1:05:40Cameron Hanes?

  He's the best. So generous.

• 1:05:42Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah, my buddy's a billionaire and, and I paid for, I went to pay for a meal and he goes, don't ever do that ever again, never again. Don't ever do that because it means nothing.

• 1:05:52Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, I tried, I do that with Joe. I pay for stuff and he's just like, he kinda laughs at it. Like it's a, it'd be like one of my kids when they were seven paying for something.

• 1:06:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:03Cameron Hanes?

  It's some.

• 1:06:03Speaker 01

Well, I think Joe wants, what Joe wants is, you know, what I appreciate, one time he said to me, you, you've never asked me for anything, you know? And I was like, well, it never dawned on me to ask you for anything because you're my friend. I've known you for thirty years. And so, you know, that, that, I think when, when you become Joe Rogan and you get that busy and everybody wants a piece of you, people will get to me because they wanna get to Joe.

• 1:06:27Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:27Speaker 01

It's amazing. I'm sure you could deal with the same shit. And, and, you know, part of what happens is you start to shield your friend from these kinds of things, these kind of business opportunities and, and also um. It's, I think as you get more and more in that stratospheric level of fame, you tend to wanna hold on to the people that were there from the beginning.

• 1:06:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, but you'll have to question their intention.

• 1:06:53Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 1:06:54Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, I mean, that's, that's the worst. It's like, are you friends with me because you like me or because I can do something for you?

• 1:07:00Speaker 01

And it's always transactional. I see it all. We were talking about it recently. And he had to, he had to turn his back on somebody because they were always treating him like he was a transaction.

• 1:07:08Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:09Speaker 01

And I was like, yeah, that, that happens, you know, but.

• 1:07:11Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, that, that would be hard.

• 1:07:13Speaker 01

They're excused because life is hard and you just wanna, you wanna get to the next level and sometimes it's tempting, but.

• 1:07:19Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:20Speaker 01

You know, I'm still gonna ask him to do the podcast promote my special though.

• 1:07:25Cameron Hanes?

I mean, I still asked him to write the foreword to my book.

• 1:07:28Speaker 01

Oh man, that's, that's worth it because he respects you and like, you're, but you're a legit friend, you know?

• 1:07:33Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, yeah, no, it's, I hate, I do hate asking for anything. I mean, I, I will never ask for tickets to a fight. Like people will always say.

• 1:07:41Speaker 01

  I do.

• 1:07:41Cameron Hanes?

They, they say, hey, are, are you going to the, like some big fight? You going to it? I'm like, don't know. They go, oh, well, you usually go with Joe. I said, I, he has an ass and I don't ask. So it's like, I just, I just never wanna be.

• 1:07:56Speaker 01

I, I'll only do that if I'm in town where he is, or if I have, like my nephew really wanted to go to the UFC.

• 1:08:02Cameron Hanes?

  Been friends for 30 years.

• 1:08:03Speaker 01

Yeah, and plus I've been to the UFC plenty.

• 1:08:05Cameron Hanes?

  It's, it's different.

• 1:08:06Speaker 01

I like sitting behind him though, where we sit.

• 1:08:08Cameron Hanes?

  I know.

• 1:08:09Speaker 01

  Like cave side.

• 1:08:09Cameron Hanes?

  Dude.

• 1:08:10Speaker 01

I brought my brother-in-law down. I was like, you know, I was like, all right, come check it out.

• 1:08:14Cameron Hanes?

Best seats in the house. Can you believe that?

• 1:08:16Speaker 01

Dana Way, we're talking to Rogan, we're talking to, you know.

• 1:08:19Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:19Speaker 01

You know, Zuckerberg's there. It's crazy.

• 1:08:21Cameron Hanes?

My favorite one was, I was there in, um, I don't know what year this was or when it was, but I was sitting there and in the first row over to the right, like in the regular crowd section, first row there, Leo, DiCaprio. So I'm like, yeah, I've, I got better seats than you, bitch.

• 1:08:39Speaker 01

  Isn't that crazy? I know. I know. I know. It's crazy seats.

• 1:08:43Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it was him and that guy from the entourage. I can't remember his name, but one of the actors in there. Um, but yeah, anyway, amazing, amazing experience. Um, yeah. So your comedy special, when does it come out?

• 1:08:59Speaker 01

I, I, I'm editing it now and I'm gonna, I think it's done. I think today is the day it just got done editing. Yeah.

• 1:09:05Cameron Hanes?

Oh, nice. And then will it be YouTube or do you have to pay or?

• 1:09:09Speaker 01

It'll be YouTube. And then, uh, I think, I mean, unless some by some miracle Netflix picks it up. They've never even watched one of my specials. I remember my, my complicated apes was like, I didn't, that Adam Carolla said, this is the highest rated special ever on Apple. I guess there was the thing and I was like, really? And he showed me, I did his podcast and he was showing me uh, our show and, uh, and I'm like, you know, hey Netflix, like can, can I, maybe you could have just watched it. Like maybe watch it, you know? I don't, you know, but, but they, they have an agenda. It's their thing and I just didn't fit into it.

• 1:09:42Cameron Hanes?

  They're nothing without you.

• 1:09:44Speaker 01

  They're nothing without me.

• 1:09:45Cameron Hanes?

There's no way they're gonna make it if they pass up opportunities like that.

• 1:09:48Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. No, I'd love it if they did, cause it just sells more tickets. As long as I can keep selling tickets and doing stand up.

• 1:09:55Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:55Speaker 01

  That's what's fun, you know?

• 1:09:57Cameron Hanes?

Is it, uh, how, like, how many cities are you going to right now?

• 1:10:01Speaker 01

I'm, I'm gonna be in Oklahoma. I'll be in, uh, Oklahoma, I think May 30th and 31st, I'll be in Tulsa. So I'll be in Oklahoma City, then Tulsa, and then I'm in, I'm in San Diego at Mic Drop in August. And I've just got a bunch of, I'll be at the Brea Improv, um, July 5th. That's a Saturday. So, you know, I'm just all over the place.

• 1:10:25Cameron Hanes?

  And you love it.

• 1:10:26Speaker 01

I love it, man. Brian Callen.com.

• 1:10:29Cameron Hanes?

Um, so yeah, so what's up with the podcasts? So you have new podcasts, old podcasts?

• 1:10:35Speaker 01

Yeah. So I have, so, so, uh, Fire and Kids always been there, but, um, I have been doing this podcast off limits where I just interview people that are a lot smarter than I am. And that's been a lot of fun. Fire him. Fire him.

• 1:10:47Cameron Hanes?

  What the was that?

• 1:10:49Speaker 01

Uh, he, he dropped his, his shaman beads. Just sounded like a bunch of beads, like, uh, like his rosary.

• 1:10:55Cameron Hanes?

  Was that your butt plug?

• 1:10:56Speaker 01

Yeah. Is that what it was? It was your anal beads. That's what I thought. I said rosary, but of course it was, it was anal beads. That's classic. This is, that's a classic metaphor for this podcast. I walked in thinking it was, I was gonna be counting the rosary and I'm counting anal beads. All right. But um, I don't even know what I'm saying, but yeah, that's it.

• 1:11:17Cameron Hanes?

  Podcast.

• 1:11:18Speaker 01

Yeah. So so off limits. Um, and I'm re kind of hashing it. I just did. I just had Eric Weinstein on. Carrot Top on.

• 1:11:26Cameron Hanes?

  Can't talk.

• 1:11:27Speaker 01

Uh, Harlem Williams. He's so smart.

• 1:11:29Cameron Hanes?

I mean, I can barely talk to you.

• 1:11:31Speaker 01

  Dude, and I'm smart.

• 1:11:32Cameron Hanes?

  Every four words.

• 1:11:33Speaker 01

  Yeah, I know.

• 1:11:34Cameron Hanes?

  I don't know.

• 1:11:35Speaker 01

Poor thing, because you know what? Because it's not archery. It's not archery and running and carrying stones.

• 1:11:41Cameron Hanes?

  Carrying rock.

• 1:11:41Speaker 01

  Carrying rocks, archery.

• 1:11:43Cameron Hanes?

  We've evolved.

• 1:11:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:11:44Cameron Hanes?

  And I haven't.

• 1:11:45Speaker 01

You'll take you'll take my workshop.

• 1:11:47Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:48Speaker 01

  And, um.

• 1:11:49Cameron Hanes?

So you talked to Eric Weinstein.

• 1:11:51Speaker 01

Yeah. And he's got a theory of everything.

• 1:11:54Cameron Hanes?

  Carrot Top looks good.

• 1:11:56Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah, he's he's a he he's so funny.

• 1:12:02Cameron Hanes?

  Face.

• 1:12:03Speaker 01

  He's so funny, though. He's.

• 1:12:04Cameron Hanes?

But is his face like a mess?

• 1:12:05Speaker 01

We talked about it. He's just a character. He wears makeup and he just he's just a very unique character. He's an amazing guy. He's such a sweetheart. Have you ever met him? Oh, he's such a good guy and he's so funny. You just wait to see. He did a very popular show. I won't even say it. When when is this gonna air?

• 1:12:24Cameron Hanes?

  Like in like Monday?

• 1:12:25Speaker 01

Okay. Yeah, well, well, you're gonna you're about to see how why that guy has been packing crowds in in Vegas for 30 years. Really? He is so funny. You you carrot top.

• 1:12:37Cameron Hanes?

And he's on a big show?

• 1:12:38Speaker 01

Oh, dude, yeah, but he's so funny. Like, people don't realize how good that guy is.

• 1:12:43Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, I have.

• 1:12:43Speaker 01

It's like it's so much fun. He looks different. He's got his hair and all that. He's all muscular.

• 1:12:47Cameron Hanes?

  You get distracted.

• 1:12:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, he's 60. And he's 60. And he's a.

• 1:12:52Cameron Hanes?

  Holy shit.

• 1:12:54Speaker 01

He's a genius and he's I'm just was so pleasantly surprised. I'd heard good things about him.

• 1:13:00Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:00Speaker 01

And I've always respected him because I've seen what he does. Like, he's really good. But he's just a good person, man. He's just a downer. But he's living in Vegas, you know, and people don't know.

• 1:13:11Cameron Hanes?

I think people get distract like me, get distracted by just what you see.

• 1:13:15Speaker 01

Yeah, but we talked, but he's always put shit in his hair.

• 1:13:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:18Speaker 01

He shows up. He's got like, you know, he put like, he's got yarn in his hair. He's got glitter. He's got makeup. He love he's he was doing that before he was famous. He was doing that in high school.

• 1:13:26Cameron Hanes?

  Really?

• 1:13:27Speaker 01

I was like, what is it about that? What are you doing? He goes, I don't know. I just I don't know.

• 1:13:31Cameron Hanes?

  It's all good.

• 1:13:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:32Cameron Hanes?

He's made a career out of it.

• 1:13:33Speaker 01

He's a he is an original.

• 1:13:35Cameron Hanes?

So you what's that podcast called?

• 1:13:38Speaker 01

  Off Limits.

• 1:13:38Cameron Hanes?

  Off Limits.

• 1:13:39Speaker 01

  Yeah, you gotta come on.

• 1:13:40Cameron Hanes?

And it's just. He just talked to anybody about?

• 1:13:43Speaker 01

Well, I do other things too. I host debates.

• 1:13:45Cameron Hanes?

  Oh, really?

• 1:13:46Speaker 01

Yes, and that's been, that was pretty cool. I had Stephen Meyer and Michael Shermer on. Stephen Meyer's a physicist, but he's very religious. Michael Shermer's a skeptic.

• 1:13:54Cameron Hanes?

  Okay.

• 1:13:54Speaker 01

I have a lot of debates between like atheists and Christians or people who are religious, but I like the religious people to also be scientists. And so you get into these really fantastic debates and I'm gonna host more of those.

• 1:14:08Cameron Hanes?

  Get Huberman.

• 1:14:10Speaker 01

I'd love to. I don't know, I don't know him, but I'd love to get him. You know him pretty well, right?

• 1:14:14Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, he wrote the, he wrote the foreword to this book.

• 1:14:17Speaker 01

That's awesome. How many books have you read? That's so cool.

• 1:14:20Cameron Hanes?

  Uh, four.

• 1:14:21Speaker 01

  Damn, dude.

• 1:14:22Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, but he did a great job on that foreword. He's such a good guy, but he's, he's a believer.

• 1:14:27Speaker 01

  Oh, is he? He's religious?

• 1:14:28Cameron Hanes?

  Yes.

• 1:14:29Speaker 01

Wow, I didn't know that. I never would have thought he was.

• 1:14:32Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, the scientist.

• 1:14:33Speaker 01

Is that new for him or has he always been?

• 1:14:35Cameron Hanes?

Fairly new, it seems like, you know, but it seems like the scientists, they want, you know, an answer for everything, kind of. And so having faith is different, but um, yeah.

• 1:14:47Speaker 01

Well, science shows you sort of how things work, right? But not why.

• 1:14:51Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:14:51Speaker 01

And the why is always there, you know?

• 1:14:55Speaker 01

Jordan Peterson helped me a lot with that. He's been very articulate about sort of like the kinds of that. But I've always felt that there was something much bigger than myself to be of service. I think so. I don't know how you live otherwise, you know?

• 1:15:09Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, there's some, nobody could explain everything.

• 1:15:14Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:15:14Cameron Hanes?

  So you got.

• 1:15:15Speaker 01

I don't want to explain everything, by the way. I love the mystery. I don't think we want to stay alive without wonder. There's something, there's something, romance is synonymous with wonder. You are wondering. You know, I'm not into this wonderful, kind of like, what is it? You know, human beings, you can break a human being down to their, their scientific components. You can break them down to their protozoa and to their genome and to, you can break it down to a number. Great, cool. It's not what a human being is. It's what they're made of. But there's something about when it's all assimilated under the best of circumstances that creates the kind of inspiration that, you know, Mozart, Beethoven, Brian Callen, when he does stand up.

• 1:15:58Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, I mean, that was.

• 1:16:01Speaker 01

You see that? But that's, that's the idea. It's like you can take a piano and, and you can have it sit in a back room. It's not a piano until it's touched the right way.

• 1:16:11Cameron Hanes?

Well, and you think about, we've talked about silverback gorillas and monkeys and every other animal, they're just a fucking animal. They're all the same.

• 1:16:20Speaker 01

They don't have the potential that we do.

• 1:16:21Cameron Hanes?

  They're the same.

• 1:16:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:22Cameron Hanes?

Whereas every human is so unique in its own way and what it can create and how, you know, our brains operate and our feelings and our emotions and our everything.

• 1:16:33Speaker 01

Well, more importantly, the fact that human beings can step outside of their feelings and their emotions and their body and their mind. Human beings can get very good at actually witnessing. It's really interesting. It's an interesting exercise, you know. By the way, this doesn't preclude that evolution is true. Evolution can exist within a larger context, within a smaller context of the larger context, which is, which is that something created evolution. Just because you figured out the mechanism in which we came about doesn't mean that that eradicates, it's not design without a designer. That was Darwin's notion, but no, there is a designer. I don't know what that designer is, but you know,

• 1:17:14Speaker 01

if it's something like God, in my opinion, but you know, but you had something that I interrupted you because I had a thought and I can't remember what it was, but it was.

• 1:17:25Cameron Hanes?

I was just saying how, you know, the human species so varied and our emotions and where animals are pretty much, they're very similar, you know, and we're basically the opposite of that. And then we can create, we can, we have this conscious thought.

• 1:17:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:40Cameron Hanes?

You know, animals react mostly on fight or flight, essentially.

• 1:17:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:46Cameron Hanes?

I mean, and we, you know, have.

• 1:17:47Speaker 01

  Well, we have potential.

• 1:17:48Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:49Speaker 01

Like, that's what's incredible, right? Whatever we can imagine. So you'll never touch perfection, but you can imagine perfection and the reach seems to get us closer and closer to whatever we think is possible and goes beyond what we thought was possible. And we keep coming up with new ideas. That's kind of fascinating. But consciousness is fascinating to me. The idea that you can sort of, like, if you think about sitting quietly, it was probably something like meditation, right? So you, if you, if you, human beings seem to be able to actually witness their own avatar. That we're able to witness this.

• 1:18:24Speaker 01

Body go through, you can, you can watch your thoughts come into your mind and leave your mind. You can watch your emotions change your body. You can watch your physicality change, the temperature, or the pressure, or the tingling. Well, then the question is, who's doing the watching?

• 1:18:38Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:18:39Speaker 01

Who's actually the witness there? That might be who you really are.

• 1:18:42Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:18:43Speaker 01

That notion that, you know, that's yourself.

• 1:18:45Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:18:46Speaker 01

That, this, this, the, the, the sort of the, that, that witness, that witness that is not sort of even, it's not beholden to this physical world.

• 1:18:56Cameron Hanes?

How do you get to that?

• 1:18:57Speaker 01

It's kind of what the Christian mystics talked about, right? You can't touch my soul. It's like, you know, you can torture me. You ever read Uncle Tom's Cabin?

• 1:19:04Cameron Hanes?

  Hmm.

• 1:19:05Speaker 01

Yeah, and, and, and he was so profoundly religious, so as they were beating him and torturing him, they couldn't touch.

• 1:19:12Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:19:12Speaker 01

The inner, so he became a witness to his own torture. It's very Christ-like, right? It's very, very much the, the notion behind, you know, sort of Jesus on the cross.

• 1:19:21Cameron Hanes?

What does it take to get there?

• 1:19:23Speaker 01

  Suffering. Trials.

• 1:19:26Cameron Hanes?

I've always said that when you're suffering, you can't lie. Like, that is the ultimate truth serum, is suffering. That's why, you know, military has used torture to get the truth. But suffering in the way you described it, or on, I think back to, uh, you know, I just did this big race, and I was definitely suffering, you can't lie in those moments.

• 1:19:50Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:19:50Cameron Hanes?

So it's like, does it take suffrage? Does it take pain? Does it take to get to the truth? Because it, without that, are we just, we can just lie to ourselves? Or we can lie to the world? Or we can put on an act? But when you're suffering, you can't.

• 1:20:07Speaker 01

I would say suffering's inevitable anyway. And you're gonna face suffering, and it's gonna be a lot worse if you don't, if you don't align yourself with the truth. You're, you're gonna fall short. You're gonna chase something. And you're probably gonna chase something like status, and money, and power, and sex, and all those things. The sensations.

• 1:20:24Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:20:25Speaker 01

And safety and comfort. And I think that it's, it's inevitable and impossible that that will not lead to, it, it will have its conclusion, and its conclusion will not be satisfactory. Its conclusion could even lead to a crisis. Its conclusion could be, if you worship false gods, uh, which is really, in my opinion, the entire point of, at least, the Old Testament. If you worship false gods, if you worship, um, If you worship yourself, and if you worship the god of money and the god of all these things that seem to be of this earth, you will get to the top of that wall, and you won't like the view, or you'll realize you spent all this time climbing the wrong wall. And if you doubt that, ask anybody. Will Smith was talking about this. Will Smith said,

• 1:21:09Speaker 01

"I have gotten everything. I mean, everything to the nth degree that I could ever want. Everything from money, sex, power, good-looking, name it. I've touched all of it. I've touched it all." And that led to a massive crisis, one where it's like, "I might kill myself." And he had to go inside. He had to go, "Wait a minute, man. If I don't find something like God, something that's bigger than myself, I'm gonna end it all." And Tolstoy went through the same process, you know. I don't know if you know that. His book, A Confession, was about that.

• 1:21:46Cameron Hanes?

Does every, you think every human's gonna go through that eventually?

• 1:21:50Speaker 01

You know, the ones that are awake. I think we all take a different, we're all along this journey, and everybody's in their own journey, but some people maybe...

• 1:21:59Cameron Hanes?

  You could die blind.

• 1:22:00Speaker 01

  I think so.

• 1:22:01Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, you could.

• 1:22:02Speaker 01

I don't know. That's a good question. I haven't thought about it too much. I think, I think it's a cynical thing to say, and it's, I don't want to say that I'm further along that road. That's the danger here in this conversation there. But I think, I think that there are for sure, there are monsters in the world. There are people that are born without this curiosity, without the capacity to want to understand or know. There are people that have a condition called narcissism, where they are the end-all and be-all. So, yes, not for everyone. But if you're somewhat awake, and if you've been gifted with enough of an apparatus at birth to at least know what, know what you don't know, be aware of

• 1:22:45Speaker 01

what you don't know, and be interested in knowing what you don't know, I think that kind of leads you down...

• 1:22:53Speaker 01

At least a philosophical path. And you might get to a point where reason and logic don't get you out of the trap. And that's where faith comes in. There's another tributary there. And I think that's kind of maybe what happens.

• 1:23:10Cameron Hanes?

Where would you say you are? I mean, where have you been closest to? If you say a higher power, you say God, you say whatever. Where have you been closest to that? Have you suffered?

• 1:23:23Speaker 01

Yes, and I think time and loss and planning and then it not coming through and having children and watching your children go through what they go through. And just being aware of how vulnerable that all is. And maybe it comes out of the fact that when you have children, you love them so much. It makes you so vulnerable. But also just this terrible thing, this terrible thing. This life can be horrifying, man. And sometimes there's no other way to. It doesn't have to be your suffering. It can be just witness to other people's suffering. And I think that one of the things I like about Christianity, for example, is that it is, there is meaning to suffering.

• 1:24:06Speaker 01

There is meaning to your suffering matters and there's meaning to it. And I like the idea that you are a flawed being and you always will be flawed. That I think is pretty cool. My problem with Scientology where you reach clarity. My problem with, you know, even even the notion, and I have enormous respect for Buddhism, but the idea that you're going to reach enlightenment, that you're going to become a god of some kind or one with God. I just always think that's a dangerous thing to try for. And it's one of the reasons that people who are from the West have a lot of trouble getting to satori or enlightenment. Because what they're really trying to do is.

• 1:24:49Speaker 01

Have this universal understanding and universal clarity and really it's a pursuit of purity.

• 1:24:56Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:24:57Speaker 01

I think that's a big mistake. I really do. I think one of the strengths of the characters in the Old Testament and the example of Christ was that even in the Garden of Gethsemane, he was sweating. He was terrified. He had to pray. Wow. And even at the end, he said, why have you forsaken me? He almost lost his faith. He almost did until he said, it's accomplished. He said, forgive me, you know, the notion of forgiveness is so powerful. Like to love your enemy is radical.

• 1:25:28Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:29Speaker 01

It's a radical idea. So I love those kinds of things. I like, I like how, forget whether you believe Jesus is the Messiah. I like the idea that Christianity or the Judeo-Christian ethic gives us so much room to be human, which really means to be flawed, which really means to fall short.

• 1:25:49Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:49Speaker 01

And, and, and there's still a way out.

• 1:25:51Cameron Hanes?

  That's the only honest approach.

• 1:25:53Speaker 01

I mean, look at how often, look, you're, like you and I are always in the pursuit of something, right? And you fail really more than you succeed.

• 1:26:00Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:26:01Speaker 01

  You just do.

• 1:26:01Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:26:02Speaker 01

And it's like, all right. And sometimes the good guys lose and sometimes your, your noble aspirations don't work out economically.

• 1:26:09Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:26:10Speaker 01

You know, there are a lot of great artists that never really, you know, uh, did it.

• 1:26:15Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:26:16Speaker 01

  So.

• 1:26:17Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, no, it's, it's true. It's, uh, yeah. What, what I've always thought too, and again, this race reminded me of it, but it's like the more I suffer, the, the more pain I'm in, the closer I feel to God because I feel like it's been that, you know, when we're gonna face God is when we die. The more you're suffering, the closer you have to be to dying. You know, if this suffering is actually real, this pain is real and this is a true test you're going through. To me, that's where I'm like, I'm closest to God in those moments and I, I like it.

• 1:26:54Speaker 01

  Me too.

• 1:26:55Cameron Hanes?

  I wanna be more miserable.

• 1:26:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:26:58Cameron Hanes?

Because it makes that more real. And in regular life, you know, and I've said this before, it's like, when things are going good, you never pray. You know.

• 1:27:07Speaker 01

You don't, no, you don't find God and when you're holding the championship belt over your head.

• 1:27:11Cameron Hanes?

  You don't.

• 1:27:11Speaker 01

You find God in the shadows, in the darkness.

• 1:27:13Cameron Hanes?

  When you're hurting.

• 1:27:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27:14Cameron Hanes?

And so if I can manufacture those moments.

• 1:27:19Cameron Hanes?

That's, to me, that's what I want. That's where I've been fighting to get to my whole life.

• 1:27:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27:24Cameron Hanes?

  And it's like.

• 1:27:24Speaker 01

  That's interesting. So that's interesting.

• 1:27:26Cameron Hanes?

  Most people avoid.

• 1:27:28Speaker 01

Wearing a hair shirt or something.

• 1:27:29Cameron Hanes?

It's kind, yeah, it's like, it's just, yeah, I don't know. I don't know if it, if it makes sense to anybody else, but to me it makes sense. And in those moments, it just, it feels real.

• 1:27:40Speaker 01

Well, think about this. I was thinking about this the other day. Again, you can witness, when you're running and you're in that state, you can kind of, you're talking to yourself, you know?

• 1:27:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:51Speaker 01

And you're trying to talk to yourself in a good way, in an empowering way, because man, there's another voice that says, it's like my joke, negative Brian, I'm finding positive Brian. It's like, you know? Negative Brian's going, listen bitch, quit. You're not good anyway. You're just, everything about you sucks. And, you know, that, that's, that sort of idea of this conversation you have with yourself. Well, I think we're, we're ultimately going to get to a point where we say goodbye to ourselves. You're going to have to say goodbye to this body of yours that seems to have served you so well, that can run 250 miles. There's a lot of pride in that. And you've worked really hard to get to that point, but it only, there's, it only goes downhill. After we get to be about 60, next year ain't better, no matter what you do.

• 1:28:32Speaker 01

You're running to stand still, but you're really running to walk backwards. And that's just what it is. Wisdom is coming to terms with your own limitations and the fact that your body is a limitation. And I think that, you know, you, you would, you would do yourself a good service as a human being to know and to contemplate that at the end of the day, you will say goodbye to this body. And then you have to ask yourself, well, who is this? Who is this? Who, who is, who is?

• 1:28:57Cameron Hanes?

Who is this person who can't do all this?

• 1:28:59Speaker 01

Yeah. And who is this person who's going to say goodbye? Who is that? Who is that witness? That's the real me. That might be something like my soul. And I love that. I love that idea. This is the Vedanta. This is kind of like what the Himalayan sages were spending, that they were, that was what they were carrying on about for the most part and still are. And I love that idea. And I don't think it precludes the idea that you can be profoundly religious and go to church either.

• 1:29:23Cameron Hanes?

Right. Well, I mean, you're obviously intelligent, well-read, been everywhere.

• 1:29:30Speaker 01

  Good looking.

• 1:29:30Cameron Hanes?

  Good looking.

• 1:29:32Speaker 01

  Athletic.

• 1:29:33Cameron Hanes?

  Verbal.

• 1:29:33Speaker 01

  Athletic.

• 1:29:34Cameron Hanes?

  What, athletic.

• 1:29:35Speaker 01

  Strong, tall.

• 1:29:37Cameron Hanes?

  Tall?

• 1:29:38Speaker 01

It doesn't matter, because your fans are gonna, they're gonna, they're filling in the blanks. So anyway, it doesn't matter, keep going. What do you mean?

• 1:29:45Cameron Hanes?

  But tall?

• 1:29:47Speaker 01

  Cameron, I'm five, in shoes, I'm five, like, I'm 5'11", a solid 5'11". I'm a little taller than 5'11" in shoes.

• 1:29:54Cameron Hanes?

But would somebody say that's tall? To me, like, if somebody said, like, 6'6", like, oh, he's tall.

• 1:29:59Speaker 01

I know, but, like, with my charisma?

• 1:30:02Cameron Hanes?

  That's not height.

• 1:30:06Speaker 01

Move on, what were you saying?

• 1:30:08Cameron Hanes?

I mean, those are two different.

• 1:30:09Speaker 01

This podcast has been a fu- -baster. I have, I have to be on stage in like, two hours.

• 1:30:14Cameron Hanes?

Height, and you're saying charisma, that's like, those are two completely different things.

• 1:30:20Speaker 01

Listen, I'm sold out tonight, alright?

• 1:30:22Cameron Hanes?

Because like, Danny DeVito has charisma, is he tall?

• 1:30:25Speaker 01

No, he's not. I know, but... You said that everybody's unique, and I'm unique.

• 1:30:33Cameron Hanes?

  But not tall?

• 1:30:34Speaker 01

  Fuck.

• 1:30:38Cameron Hanes?

  So, tell me,

• 1:30:41Cameron Hanes?

what have you learned in your 58 years? What, what, what have you learned now that you wish you would have known as a young man? How about that?

• 1:30:49Speaker 01

Yeah, that's a great, that's a great, um, question that I, I think about all the time. I, I, I think my only regret is that I didn't focus even more on-

• 1:31:01Cameron Hanes?

  Girls?

• 1:31:01Speaker 01

Uh, no, there was too much focus on that. There was too much focus on that.

• 1:31:07Speaker 01

You know, I, I always think to myself, I probably would have given myself advice, and I wouldn't really have listened. And I wouldn't really have known, because the only way I've learned is by making mistakes.

• 1:31:17Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:18Speaker 01

And, and I'd probably be right back to where I am here, I really do.

• 1:31:21Cameron Hanes?

I hate when people tell me what to do.

• 1:31:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:31:23Cameron Hanes?

If somebody tells me something, hey, you know what, you should do this? I'm like, you know what, you should fuck off.

• 1:31:28Speaker 01

That's right, that's exactly right. So, I would tell myself something, and it probably, you know, I, I think I would have said this. I would have said, um, I know exactly what I would have told myself. I would have said, Brian, you, your tendency is to think that the world is, that everybody in the world is just like you. They have your intentions, and they want, they mean the best for everybody, everywhere. And that's not true. And it doesn't mean they're bad. It just means that you are going to spend a lot of time, if you're not careful, on people that are not worth your time. And you're going to spend a lot of time with people because you have this wishful,

• 1:32:11Speaker 01

movie influenced Hollywood notion that people change.

• 1:32:17Cameron Hanes?

  The storyline, yeah.

• 1:32:18Speaker 01

That they change and they come through it and everybody is living happily ever after and that our bonds are there forever.

• 1:32:26Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:32:26Speaker 01

And that is all bullshit. It's just bullshit.

• 1:32:31Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:32Speaker 01

And the people that I know like Rogan had a built in ability to go, that guy is bad, that girl's crazy, go off and he moves over here. I couldn't do that to people. I kept him around forever. I've never been able to do it. I just, I, it's my weakness. It is not a virtue.

• 1:32:50Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:51Speaker 01

It's not a virtue. It's a weakness and I don't take any credit for it. You go, oh, you're a nice guy. No, it's the way I'm wired. It's not, no credit here, but it's a liability and, uh, and it was, uh, just, just a big, so I think if you're young, I would say be ruthless about who you let into your circle. Be ruthless and be really ruthless about who you choose to marry. That's the most important decision you could ever make. Who are you going to spend the rest of your life with and have children with? That is the most important decision. I don't care what anybody says. My friends, uh, made all the money and, uh, he, he toasted his wife and she has cancer and she's been fighting it and successfully. But he said, I would have told you a long time ago that making,

• 1:33:32Speaker 01

uh, choosing the right path in life, your right career path and everything is the most important thing. And he goes, and I couldn't have been more wrong. The most important thing you could ever choose is the mate you choose to settle down with.

• 1:33:44Cameron Hanes?

  Right.

• 1:33:44Speaker 01

And that's so important because everything springs from there because that's the first honest, that's the first honest action.

• 1:33:51Cameron Hanes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:33:51Speaker 01

You know, will you marry me? Um, I love you. If you're lying when you say that, and most people are, um, and most people are doing it for other reasons and they're not even aware of it. And you're excused for it because we're always, but, but that's the lie that you, you will pay for. I love what, what, uh, I love, love what Jordan Peterson said. He said, you will pay for everything you did and didn't do in your life and you'll pay in full.

• 1:34:19Cameron Hanes?

  That's intense.

• 1:34:20Speaker 01

Okay, I would have said that too to myself. I would have said, you will get away with absolutely nothing. You will pay in full for everything you do and don't do, which I always had an inherent idea of, right? I knew I had to be an actor or had to be a comic. I did, I, I made the right decisions because I knew it would have been a disaster. I, I was so afraid of regret. I was so afraid to look back on my life and be like, I didn't go for it. I didn't take the road less traveled, you know, the courageous path. So for the most part, yes, but.

• 1:34:47Cameron Hanes?

He chose, he chose a hard road for sure. Hard business.

• 1:34:50Speaker 01

  I love it, man.

• 1:34:51Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, but no, that's Peterson. Yeah, that, yeah, that's, that's a sobering thought.

• 1:34:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 1:34:58Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, you'll pay for everything you did and didn't do. Yeah, but that's so true.

• 1:35:02Speaker 01

He said in my 35 years of psychoanalysis, I've never seen anyone ever get away with anything even once.

• 1:35:10Cameron Hanes?

  Yeah, God, that sucks.

• 1:35:12Speaker 01

  Come on, dude.

• 1:35:13Cameron Hanes?

I know, not even one, not even me.

• 1:35:15Speaker 01

  Come on, bro, right?

• 1:35:16Cameron Hanes?

Can I get away with one?

• 1:35:17Speaker 01

No, you can twist the fabric of reality for a while, as he said, but it's like, God, Jesus. Yeah.

• 1:35:22Cameron Hanes?

Well, yeah. Well, that's, that's good, good advice. I mean, that's spot on and is, I couldn't agree more. But, uh, yeah, I appreciate you coming over here.

• 1:35:33Speaker 01

  Great to be your buddy.

• 1:35:33Cameron Hanes?

I know you got a show coming up. I can't wait to see it.

• 1:35:36Speaker 01

Good. Can't wait till you're there. It's gonna be a good time.

• 1:35:38Cameron Hanes?

Yeah, it's gonna be great. We'll hang out towards. It's gonna be great. Thank you, Brian.

• 1:35:42Speaker 01

  Thank you, buddy.

• 1:35:42Cameron Hanes?

  I appreciate the time.

• 1:35:44Speaker 01

  You're a good man.

• 1:35:44Cameron Hanes?

  It's a, it's a pleasure to call you friend.

• 1:35:46Speaker 01

Yes, sir. You too. Appreciate you guys.
