You ever realize that you spent your entire morning thinking about lunch? It's 9 a.m. and somehow I'm already in negotiations with myself about how I'm gonna spend $20 on a sandwich at noon. And then I eat it, or you eat it, or somebody eats it, and then an hour later, you're just standing in the kitchen worrying about what you'll do for dinner. And that's one reason why I've been into Huell. The Black Edition Powder is a complete meal you have instead of food, not a shake on top of food. Their powder starts at less than $3 per meal, has 40 grams of protein, and mixes with water or milk in about 30 seconds. I like Huell's shakes because they're clean and it's quick.

• 0:41Theo Von?

I just want to make sure I have everything I need to keep going the way I want to keep going in a healthy manner. So with Huell, basically, lunch went from a daily logistical problem to a thing I can solve in about 30 seconds. Make healthy eating simple. New customers get an exclusive offer of 15% off online with my code WEEKEND at huell.com/weekend. That's H-U-E-L dot com slash weekend. Thank you to Huell for partnering and supporting our show. Today's guest is an actor, a producer, an entrepreneur. He's a real do-it-all type brother. He has a new film out with Dave Bautista called The Wrecking Crew.

• 1:26Theo Von?

Highly recommend it, great action film. He's out the mud and the water. It's Aquaman. Today's guest is Mr. Jason Momoa.

• 1:53Theo Von?

We'll be fine. We'll be fine.

• 1:55Speaker 01

I'm here to do the greatest Theo Von interview ever. I'm sure.

• 1:59Theo Von?

Oh damn. Actually, it could be it. I'm trying to think if we've had the greatest one. We had an Amish kid that was pretty great.

• 2:08Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 2:09Theo Von?

He's pure Amish too. He's like, every now and then I'll sneak off to the creek and we hide a cellphone down there and we'll listen to a little bit of Def Leppard.

• 2:19Theo Von?

That was one of the best things I ever heard.

• 2:22Speaker 01

A little bit of Pour Some Sugar On Me?

• 2:23Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 2:24Speaker 01

  Fuck, yeah, dude.

• 2:25Theo Von?

And I don't even think they have sugar, which is the craziest part. So just down there listening to songs about illegal ingredients. That's all they're doing, dude.

• 2:35Theo Von?

Jason, thanks for hanging out, man.

• 2:36Speaker 01

  Thanks for having me, buddy.

• 2:38Theo Von?

Um, we met at the, at the 50th, I think it was the 50th SNL.

• 2:43Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 2:44Theo Von?

I just remember I was walking and then this big like, kind of, I would say semi-beautiful hand just grabbed me. This thing that definitely, and immediately I felt like I hadn't been in the gym. That was like my immediate feeling. And then it just like pulled me into like this orbit and it was like, hey, man, nice to see you here. And that was it, dude. But it was awesome.

• 3:03Speaker 01

This is great to see you, man.

• 3:04Theo Von?

  Yeah, it made my day.

• 3:06Speaker 01

You make people smile. You make me smile. So I'm like, when you see that, like, it was a bit of an overload there.

• 3:11Theo Von?

  It was a lot.

• 3:11Speaker 01

And I feel like once you're talking, yeah, like when you're with Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro's and one thing and then, you know, I freaked out when I saw Chevy Chase. Like, this grand, this, this older lady's like, Che, come here, darling. You're, you're the Aquaman. I was like, yeah. And she's like, Chevy, get over here. Chevy, get over here. I'm like, oh my gosh, this is Chevy Chase's wife. And, and then she's like, Bill, get over here. And I'm.

• 3:36Theo Von?

  Who's Bill?

• 3:37Speaker 01

  Murray.

• 3:38Theo Von?

  Oh, God.

• 3:39Speaker 01

Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. I'm sandwiched between them and I'm just going like. This beautiful one brought this together. Bill's like, who the fuck is this guy? And she's like, and so was, uh, so was Chevy. And he's like, that's, that's the Aquaman. Our grandchildren love him.

• 3:53Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 3:54Speaker 01

But you just go like, it was, there it is.

• 3:56Theo Von?

  Oh, that's cool.

• 3:57Speaker 01

See, in my mind, I was sandwiched.

• 4:00Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:00Speaker 01

But right there, I'm a little bit more of the bun.

• 4:03Theo Von?

Yeah, you seem like more of a bun.

• 4:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:05Theo Von?

You know, or like a nice rye or something, a pumpernickel.

• 4:08Speaker 01

So, but we were, uh, that was, it was just a, it was a crazy night, huh?

• 4:13Theo Von?

Yeah, that was a lot, man. I met Hanson.

• 4:16Speaker 01

  Hanson was there?

• 4:16Theo Von?

Yeah. They look like adult Hanson kids or whatever.

• 4:20Speaker 01

Cause what, what year are you born?

• 4:21Theo Von?

  I'm born in 1980.

• 4:23Speaker 01

I'm 79. There we go. So we know what Hanson's looked like when they were bopping it out.

• 4:29Theo Von?

Yeah, we know the real Hanson.

• 4:30Speaker 01

You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I just gave my son a Criss Cross, you know, Cross Colors. That, you remember that brand? It's like, it was just this brand that I had when like Criss Cross came out. And my son didn't know who that was. And it was a year, it was the, and, uh, was it you were born, baby, when it came out? Eighty-two?

• 4:47Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:47Speaker 01

Ninety-two? I get Criss Cross, Cross Colors. Anyways, I just gave it to my son and I was just dating myself, man. But it was, it was a, it was a moment. I've been unpacking my, uh, my old stuff and giving it to my son and he loves it. Because all that stuff's cool again.

• 5:04Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, that's a good point. Yeah, things come back around.

• 5:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:07Theo Von?

Uh, you grew up in Hawaii?

• 5:10Speaker 01

  I was born in Hawaii.

• 5:11Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 5:11Speaker 01

And my parents got divorced when I was little and I moved to Iowa. But like, you know, Bridges of Madison County, Iowa, like.

• 5:17Theo Von?

Dude, Merrill Street, Bridges of Madison County.

• 5:19Speaker 01

  Boom.

• 5:20Theo Von?

One of my favorite books. The book and the movie, it's identical. It's like word for word. Um, yeah, every, the, the, the movie's the exact way of the book. So, not that that matters or anything.

• 5:30Speaker 01

  Graduated, you know?

• 5:33Theo Von?

Did you go to University of Iowa?

• 5:34Speaker 01

No, no, I actually went to, we like to make fun of it, University of Southern Ankeny. I went to DMAC, Des Moines Area Community College. And then went to-

• 5:43Theo Von?

  Is that still open?

• 5:44Speaker 01

It is, DMAC. And then I went off to get in-state tuition in Colorado. And I went, I was living out in Colorado State and I was working with Trail Crew out there and working at Lee Cyclory and Bizetti's and all these different, busting tables and shit. Trying to get in-state tuition, trying to postpone college as much as possible and then-

• 6:02Theo Von?

Trying to postpone it or stay in it?

• 6:03Speaker 01

Well, just trying to get in-state tuition so I could-

• 6:05Theo Von?

  Take a go.

• 6:05Speaker 01

Do wildlife biology there, but I want, I went to school, it's weird because when I was in Iowa, I did marine biology. They have a place called Central Campus where all these different schools would go into Des Moines. And you would learn marine biology and I'd have like a shark tank, say I had my own eel. And you'd learn about all these different things and I always wanted to be a marine biologist. And we'd spend our spring breaks down in the Keys. So we'd get in a yellow bus, go all the way down from fucking Iowa, all the way down to the Keys.

• 6:31Theo Von?

  That's so far.

• 6:32Speaker 01

Yeah, and, uh, and we'd study with scientists, but I did that two years. Get credit for college, but I, and then I was gonna go like, ah, over summertime, I was like, I'll go to Hawaii. Since I'm Hawaiian, maybe I'll get a better deal going to college. And, uh, TV show came.

• 6:47Theo Von?

  That was it?

• 6:48Speaker 01

And I was just surfing with my family and, uh, a big, a big, pretty big surf family. So we, um, and then a show came and I ended up getting it and it changed everything. I was nineteen.

• 6:59Theo Von?

And you were working so, but they had the ant, oh my God, that's him?

• 7:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, dude.

• 7:06Theo Von?

Don't what? Get some lotion out?

• 7:12Theo Von?

To rub on the picture. Uh, have some respect, guys. Dude, that's wild that you got to li-

• 7:20Speaker 01

I was nineteen, man. That was crazy. My last job before that was busting tables, yeah. Working in a surf shop.

• 7:25Theo Von?

I bust tables, bro. I was for, one of the first busters to ever use creatine in Arizona. South of Phoenix, I was one of the best bus boys there was, I think. For probably about a two and a half year period.

• 7:35Speaker 01

Is that where you went to Arizona?

• 7:36Theo Von?

I went to University of Arizona for one year and then I went to some other schools, but, um, dude, I was, oh, I was so good at busting tables, man.

• 7:43Speaker 01

Yeah, well, I would take all the food because I've worked at a really nice restaurant.

• 7:47Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 7:48Speaker 01

And we were all my buddies that lived together. There's a bunch of climbing dirtbags and I'd bring this nice pasta home. Because, you know, if the, if the, if the, the couple didn't look too sus and they left their stuff.

• 7:58Theo Von?

  Yes.

• 7:59Speaker 01

You know, you just box edit and bring it home. And so I always had like the best restaurants pasta.

• 8:05Theo Von?

Dude, I worked at a place called Dakota's Wine and Feed and the guy there was taught like, there was this perverted manager who would kind of teach us how to do like, he would like, kind of like oral sex on women, but just like in conversation. Anyway, that guy was a complete pervert, but I will take, not in person, not with a real woman. Just he would like tell us young kids like how to do it and stuff. And we didn't know what was going on, dude. Like, I remember when he would talk about it, all the pimples on my face would like explode at once.

• 8:31Theo Von?

But, um, anyway, that was beside the point, but they had very nice food there. And I remember if I'd see a couple, if they use their knife, that to me was like, oh, they're fancy. I can eat off of their plate.

• 8:40Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 8:40Theo Von?

So if the knife was dirty, I would definitely take a little bit of that, like some cured ham or some specialty meats on there. And I'd get a stack of like some like special sandwich that was made of all types of stuff.

• 8:50Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 8:51Theo Von?

It was nice. That's back, um.

• 8:53Speaker 01

  Feeding the homies.

• 8:54Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:54Speaker 01

And back then, it's like when you're out of your mom's house, your first time out, you're like, orange juice was like champagne. If someone had orange juice, I was like, oh my God, I haven't had orange juice in fucking, because I don't want to beer and fucking booze.

• 9:05Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 9:05Speaker 01

Right? Milk, never saw it again. You live mom's house, I don't fuck milk. And then it's basically water, beer.

• 9:14Speaker 01

My dad still kind of had to pay child support. So that was like that paid rent and I could, I could just save enough busting tables.

• 9:19Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 9:20Speaker 01

Where I could work just Thursday, Friday, Saturday, I go rock climbing and snowboarding. So it'd be Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, come back. So I had like four, I had a little plan, you know?

• 9:31Theo Von?

And, uh, were you with like a certain group of friends from growing up? Or was it just, is like, it's still like a core group? Or was it just guys?

• 9:36Speaker 01

There's one guy, I didn't have too many friends growing up and I, I mean, I had friends, but like the, like true buddies, they're, they're in my neighborhood, but they stayed there. There's one guy, he is a. My best friend to this day, Godfather of my kids, he went out to Colorado first. So he was one year older and then I went out there to be with him. And he's my best, yeah, he's my best bud. So it was just us running, running amok.

• 9:59Theo Von?

So much fun. Colorado's so awesome.

• 10:01Speaker 01

  It is. It was good.

• 10:02Theo Von?

God, I love being out there. Except the altitude always gets me so much, dude. I get affected pretty easily by the environment.

• 10:10Speaker 01

It's gotta be hard for you to go from Nashville to here because it gets dry. Like I just came from New Zealand right now. And last night, I'm like, I felt sorry for my lady because I'm just like.

• 10:18Theo Von?

  Upweezing?

• 10:19Speaker 01

  Dry it out like.

• 10:21Theo Von?

Just shedding a skin in the bed?

• 10:23Speaker 01

I mean, it's summer down there.

• 10:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 10:24Speaker 01

  You know what I mean?

• 10:25Theo Von?

  Oh, all right.

• 10:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:27Theo Von?

Yeah, dude, New Zealand is a, dude, I met people like any horny. I'm like, what are you talking about? You're not using any letters. They have people there. It's like.

• 10:36Speaker 01

I think that's Australians, but yeah, yeah, it is.

• 10:38Theo Von?

Oh, we went to New Zealand. We had some shows down in Auckland. And we met Pete is just like any.

• 10:46Theo Von?

I, we met guys who like, it was like they had a sentence stuck in them. They just couldn't get it out of them no matter what, like the people there that talked to us. Anyway, it was just some of the craziest lingo I'd ever heard. But one of the most beautiful places, we went to, um, we got to meet Israel Adesanya down there because he lives there.

• 11:02Speaker 01

  Yep, Style Bender.

• 11:03Theo Von?

Yep. And they were super nice to us whenever we went over there. But we went to the beach one day and they said you can only be outside of the beach for a certain amount of time because they don't have that much, um, marine layer or they don't have.

• 11:12Speaker 01

  Have the ozone.

• 11:13Theo Von?

  Ozone layer.

• 11:14Speaker 01

  You're fried.

• 11:15Theo Von?

Dude, I was like, it's so beautiful, but you gotta go back inside.

• 11:18Speaker 01

I know it never told me to go back inside, but I mean, yeah, if you're sitting out there, you're gonna feel it. Like you'd just feel yourself cooking.

• 11:23Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 11:24Speaker 01

  Like, yeah.

• 11:25Theo Von?

Yeah, well, at a certain point you should go in, I think.

• 11:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, you should. Definitely should.

• 11:29Theo Von?

Or just stay out there and grill maybe.

• 11:32Theo Von?

Um, so you went, so you went from Des Moines Community College, DMAC.

• 11:35Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 11:36Theo Von?

And then you ended up over in Colorado.

• 11:39Speaker 01

Yep, went to Colorado and then, and then went to Hawaii to get to, just to kind of be with my father, get to know him better and.

• 11:44Theo Von?

  Was he cool?

• 11:45Speaker 01

My dad's great. My dad's, he's, he's, he's awesome, but just, um, I'd go there when I was young, like eight, nine, 10, like basically. When I was young enough to comprehend it, right enough to be with my mom. And then I'd, I'd go until like high school years, we had probably a bit of a falling out. So I didn't go too much and maybe my sophomore, junior, senior year. So once I, I was like, I'm gonna go back, be with dad, bury the hatchet. And see if I can get into college over there. And, um, and then like I said, show came and changed my life. And then kind of tried to, you know, tell my mom, like, I'm on this show. And she's like, what are you talking about? You know, like, my mom's in the same house I was raised in.

• 12:26Theo Von?

Wow. She's like, what are you doing? Are you doing something with Satan?

• 12:30Speaker 01

I know. She's like, you're on Baywatch Hawaii. I was like, mom, I'm like, it's, it's not what you think. It's like a whole different spin on it. They're in Hawaii. It's not, and she's like, what?

• 12:38Theo Von?

It's a whole different spin. They're in Hawaii.

• 12:40Speaker 01

Yeah, I know. I mean, Hasselhoff wasn't really on anymore, but they're trying to change it up. So anyways.

• 12:46Theo Von?

  Dang.

• 12:48Speaker 01

And then I spent the, you know, the next 30 years digging myself out of that hole.

• 12:52Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 12:54Speaker 01

Cheers to that. And here we are now.

• 12:56Theo Von?

And so, so your mom is a white woman and your, your father is more islander?

• 13:00Speaker 01

My dad's Hawaiian, yeah. Kamala and my mom is basically German Irish.

• 13:05Theo Von?

Is there a lot of beef between Hawaiians in Hawaii of like the, are there different kind of sex of like, S E C T S of Hawaiians, like different kind of like, or is it if you're a Hawaiian, you're Hawaiian?

• 13:17Speaker 01

  I mean, that's a good question. I wouldn't say it's like sex.

• 13:23Speaker 01

Definitely, you know, back in the day, there was different islands with different kings. Until it was united by Kamala, but not everyone loved Kamala. He could have been with Kahiki, he could have been different. You could have been with different islands and that obviously to unite them, your family could have been murdered. So I don't, I don't think everyone sees eye to eye. But having said that, like we are, you know, since we are a part of America now, like I think all those generations, you know, our, our culture and our language was completely removed from us, like most indigenous races. And, uh, you know, really trying to get it back. And I don't necessarily think there's like sex to it.

• 14:00Theo Von?

Right. Yeah. It's not like, so people aren't like that tribal.

• 14:05Theo Von?

I'm in the tribal of being Hawaiian.

• 14:06Speaker 01

I'll tell you what, not as much as like if you were to compare it to New Zealand where there's I don't, don't quote me, but there's 200 plus different Iwi's, different tribes in my eyes.

• 14:16Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, I met some Iwi's over there.

• 14:17Speaker 01

Yeah, whereas the South Island, there's one like Naitahu's just one tribe on the South Island. The North Island has many, so it definitely has to go through a lot more. If you're trying to agree on certain things, like it's got to go through more people.

• 14:30Theo Von?

Yeah, got it. And did your dad have a like, like, is he like very, a very Hawaiian kind of guy?

• 14:36Speaker 01

  Very much so.

• 14:36Theo Von?

  He really?

• 14:37Speaker 01

I mean, in the sense of like.

• 14:38Theo Von?

Cause there's so much pride in that culture. It's such a unique culture.

• 14:41Speaker 01

Yeah, I come from the west side of Oahu. My dad lives in Nanakuli. Most of my family's like Nanakuli, Waianae, and then Makaha. And that whole west side is called Hawaiian homestead land. It's like our reservation kind of esque kind of thing. And so. Um, but my father's very much a waterman. And in that sense.

• 15:01Theo Von?

What does that mean? He's he likes to be out in the water?

• 15:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:03Theo Von?

Or is that a specific job?

• 15:05Speaker 01

Outriggers, paddling, surfing. He was a coach and I mean, just any waterman as in knowledge of sailing, knowledge of.

• 15:12Theo Von?

Anything out there. And you're Aquaman, which is crazy.

• 15:15Speaker 01

  Which is crazy.

• 15:16Theo Von?

  That's crazy.

• 15:18Speaker 01

It is. And I've always wanted to my, my, my, uh, my family's very much, um, some of the last living legends of surfing or of watermen is like my great uncle's Buffalo Kiolana.

• 15:30Theo Von?

Bring him up. See if we can get a gander at him.

• 15:32Speaker 01

Buffalo Kiolana and Brian Kiolana is an amazing waterman too, who's my, my cousin and Rusty's a four time world champion. So I just come from a very, the Kiolanas.

• 15:42Theo Von?

  Oh, wow.

• 15:43Speaker 01

  That's Uncle Buff.

• 15:44Theo Von?

  Hell, yeah, dude.

• 15:46Speaker 01

  Beautiful Hawaiian man, yeah?

• 15:47Theo Von?

Yeah, I think I've seen him on the pictures of the bronze or at the tanning salon as well. I think. I'll just say, I'll just say this, they're using his name, image and likeness over there. Okay. It's suntan city. I'll say that fact.

• 15:58Speaker 01

  He's beautiful, yeah.

• 15:59Theo Von?

  Dude, that's awesome, bro.

• 16:01Speaker 01

Yeah, I always wanted to, yeah, be with him. But that's, that's kind of, uh, that's the family.

• 16:06Theo Von?

And he still lives over there?

• 16:07Speaker 01

  He does, yeah.

• 16:08Theo Von?

Wow. Oh, that's beautiful, man. Yeah, I just wonder do Hawaiians feel like, um, it, it seems to me like Hawaiians always feel like a responsibility to uphold their culture, kind of. Or that they're Hawaiian, like they, like there just seems to be like a certain like level of respect that they carry about themselves with that.

• 16:25Speaker 01

I think that's true. I think there's a lot of things that have happened to our, to our people that have, it's been very.

• 16:34Speaker 01

Challenging and what's happened and and and getting our identity back, getting our culture back, getting our language back. So there's I'm sure there's a lot of, there's a lot of things. Yeah. It's a lot of, a lot of terror and trauma that's happened to the Hawaiian Islands.

• 16:48Theo Von?

  Dang.

• 16:49Speaker 01

  There's a lot.

• 16:50Theo Von?

Yeah, I think when you have something beautiful, people want it, you know?

• 16:53Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

• 16:55Theo Von?

It's so nice over there, dude. I even, dude, I even remember one time I was drowning over there and I remember being like, where else am I gonna drown? Like, it was so nice. I remember looking back at the shoreline. Literally, I was snorkeling and I wasn't doing well. I was losing. And um, I remember looking back at the shoreline and I thought I was gonna drown. And I was like, what, dude, where else you gonna drown? You know, you gonna drown in a Hampton Inn pool somewhere like, you know, outside of Jacksonville or something? No, dude, this is where you do it, you know? And so there was almost this crazy moment apiece with just how beautiful it was there, you know? It's a really special place.

• 17:30Speaker 01

Where were you at when you drowned, man?

• 17:32Theo Von?

I was off of, I was in Maui.

• 17:34Speaker 01

Was there waves? Was it just because of deep water?

• 17:37Theo Von?

There were waves, but it was like-

• 17:38Speaker 01

You just got a little too carried away and you got too far out, maybe?

• 17:41Theo Von?

Uh, yeah, I went snorkeling and it was by myself and bad idea, huh?

• 17:46Speaker 01

Yeah, it's bad to do anything. Yeah, go in the water and do it by yourself.

• 17:49Theo Von?

Yeah. And that's what I realized.

• 17:51Speaker 01

  It's fun, yeah.

• 17:52Theo Von?

It was, it's kind of fun. And I remember I got out there a little bit and I was like, oh, man. And then, and then I would see the fish, but then the water would go down and then I would just be like, almost like, like trying to like, not get on the coral or whatever, like being like that.

• 18:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 18:04Theo Von?

And then we'd go back. It was just like, it just got super scary and I was further and further out and I started getting really, really spooked.

• 18:10Speaker 01

Yeah, well, there's just different rips too.

• 18:12Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 18:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 18:13Theo Von?

  Yeah, I caught a, I caught a bad rip.

• 18:16Speaker 01

I think, uh, yeah, every surfer, you know, everyone drowns.

• 18:20Theo Von?

Have you ever been into drowning before out there?

• 18:21Speaker 01

  Very much so.

• 18:22Theo Von?

  No way.

• 18:23Speaker 01

Yeah, I've drowned. And uh, it's just, I mean, it's a beautiful teacher, man. The ocean's of, I mean, she's ultimate teacher, so. It sucks. Driving sucks.

• 18:33Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 18:33Speaker 01

  No way about it. Yeah.

• 18:35Theo Von?

  Yeah, R I P, man.

• 18:36Speaker 01

You just see your slow death. It sucks. Everything flashes in and can't move your arms anymore and you're going down and can't breathe. That's the one I I used to smoke a lot. I smoked cigars still, but it took me a while to get back to it, but I uh I used to smoke like two packs a day. I was pretty just love, love, love, like roll. And then I tried to slow down. I'd be like roll a pouch and then I'd burn a pouch in a day. Just

• 18:57Theo Von?

  Just roll it yourself?

• 18:58Speaker 01

  Loves tobacco and

• 19:00Theo Von?

Damn, I'll keep believing I was a damn smoker. That's inspiring, actually, dude. You can do anything, people.

• 19:06Speaker 01

And that was a hard one to quit. I mean, that's I'm very sure shit, but it's like, uh, I think smoking was, um, I couldn't stop for my, you know, for my family. And then when I drowned, you know, someone took my breath. I came out of that water and that thing died. And I mean, I tried really hard to stop many times and I came out and if I tried to smoke, I'd vomit like I it might that part of me just died because it took my breath and I had to go through it. And and then the reason I didn't, I got saved is I actually hit the outer reef because I was over a half mile offshore. It's just there's two reefs. It's I was on the outer reef of Maui and it was doing, you know, some some coast paddling and I hit the I hit the reef

• 19:52Speaker 01

and it just touched my toe. And and I just bubbled down, grabbed the reef and just jumped up and then got hit another wave and I just held on to the reef and waited. And I was out there for a while.

• 20:03Theo Von?

  Dang, who rescued you?

• 20:05Speaker 01

I was with Laird. I was out surfing with Laird and um

• 20:08Theo Von?

I saw him once at a Whole Foods.

• 20:10Speaker 01

Yeah, it sounds on point. It's a home brand.

• 20:14Theo Von?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 20:15Speaker 01

But uh, yeah, and um, Dave Kalama and my friend Joe Flanagan. Yeah, but it was uh, my leash snapped. I was stuck out in the middle of the ocean. So and it was just very windy and took the board and it was gone. So

• 20:25Theo Von?

And smoking was done for you?

• 20:27Speaker 01

Yeah, never, never, never smoked again.

• 20:31Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 20:32Speaker 01

Look at you guys over here just type quick and get it up. Boom, boom, boom.

• 20:36Theo Von?

Um, yeah, I I was looking at your new film. It's called The Wrecking Crew.

• 20:43Speaker 01

I'm excited for you to see it. It's funny.

• 20:44Theo Von?

  I saw it.

• 20:45Speaker 01

  Oh, you did?

• 20:45Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 20:46Speaker 01

  Oh, thank you.

• 20:47Theo Von?

I've seen it, dude. I know the premiere was last night, so sorry I missed that, but uh, no, I saw it on my computer. They sent me a screener of it. Yeah, dude, it's great. And it's so beaut- it's so nice to be able to just, you feel like you're in Hawaii for a while.

• 21:00Speaker 01

Yeah, you know, it's just the movies we grew up with, right? At least the weapon, forty eight hour, all these things, buddy cop movies.

• 21:05Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 21:06Speaker 01

Uh, I did a TV show with David Batista. He played my brother in C on Apple.

• 21:11Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. And he plays your brother in this one? Sorry.

• 21:13Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. And we just were really, got really close. And it's like, you know, in this business, when you meet somebody you really like, you're like, oh, we should. And the next one, it'd be fun to do a comedy instead of covered in blood and us beating each other. And uh, it was uh, so we, I had this, this pitch to him. And um, I had, now it's been for two decades. One of the first things I ever wrote is a pitch packet and told him, and the next day, he just posted it and, and put it out there and went viral. And uh.

• 21:41Theo Von?

What about you guys doing it together?

• 21:43Speaker 01

Yeah, and then attached David Leach to it. And like, and basically like, this is what we're doing. Do you like it? And everyone freaked out. And my agents called me going like, what are we doing? And like, the next morning, I'm like, Dave, I didn't even know that Dave would do that. And Dave just like, just did it. Like me going like, yeah, me and you were doing, you know, twins. And I mean, it's just, he just put it out there and uh.

• 22:02Theo Von?

  Fraternal twins, too.

• 22:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:04Theo Von?

And people were like, I don't know.

• 22:06Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 22:07Theo Von?

People were like, this was like before and after. Yeah.

• 22:10Speaker 01

And so, uh, anyways, in our, in our showrunner, Jonathan Tropper ended up writing it. And yeah, it's just a, it's just a fun movie that we wanna, I wanna do. Laugh a little more and it'll make you, you know, make you cry. Working out the family trauma, you know, that kind of stuff.

• 22:25Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 22:25Speaker 01

  It's never too late.

• 22:26Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah, there's some sweet stuff in it. The, the action is really great. I loved it. I mean, it's just, it's a nice, easy, it's an easy movie to watch and it's just super enjoyable and it's beautifully shot. It's just like. And it's just in Hawaii, just like, oh, if you can't afford to take your wife to Hawaii.

• 22:41Theo Von?

Take her to see this movie.

• 22:42Speaker 01

  That's the best pitch.

• 22:45Theo Von?

  It's not bad.

• 22:46Speaker 01

She spent too much money this weekend.

• 22:49Speaker 01

Can't quite take her on vacation. The wrecking crew, you're welcome.

• 22:53Theo Von?

  Look.

• 22:53Speaker 01

  Jason Momoa, thanks, bro.

• 22:55Theo Von?

Just put a little cocoa butter on her arms and take her to see the wrecking crew. It's this, tell her it's the same thing, okay? You gotta tell her it's the same thing, man. Was there ever a movie role where you liked it kind of so much or the environment that you were at? You liked so much that you're like, I wish I could stay here. I wish this was my life, kind of?

• 23:14Speaker 01

That's interesting question. Or you just want to stay in that time period or in that place?

• 23:20Theo Von?

Yeah, or even as that person even.

• 23:23Speaker 01

Hmm. I don't think I've, you know, I did this show, Chief of War, that came out last year, and I think it was really cool because it's all about a.

• 23:34Theo Von?

  It's on Apple TV?

• 23:35Speaker 01

It's all about Hawaii, yeah. It's like when they're uniting the kingdoms. It would have been really beautiful to be in Hawaii before the white man arrived and just kind of see that time and place and, you know, see what our people were like, our ancestors. It was so special to make that show and because, you know, you grow up in Iowa and you watch like Last of the Mohicans and Braveheart. You see all these things like, oh, I would love to see my culture. Then you watch it, I love Samurai movies or Native American movies and all we had was paintings. You know, my grandparents, they'd never seen a movie with us wearing all the regalia and like, and going into the big battles with no metal. So it's fish, I mean, it's just brutal battles.

• 24:16Theo Von?

  UFC.

• 24:17Speaker 01

  To the next level.

• 24:18Theo Von?

  Yeah, before they had.

• 24:19Speaker 01

Like in shark teeth, dude. Yeah, like you're ripping each other apart. So, um, just imagining that or seeing a movie on that scale. It took me a long time to make that movie, that show because, you know.

• 24:32Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, that's beautiful. And also has a gay Mardi Gras vibe as well, I'll say that. But that's outside and that's just a joke. I think it's very beautiful of these, that you get to even envision something like this. That's crazy, dude.

• 24:46Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 24:47Theo Von?

It's crazy to even get to see moments like that, like even just like on a movie set or something like that. It must be so bizarre to see moments like that.

• 24:53Speaker 01

Have you seen this, you should see like just the trailers or something, you know, when you, you know, when you have some spare time. It's, it's pretty, it's pretty wild. The, the, the fight scenes in this are pretty wild.

• 25:04Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's amazing.

• 25:05Speaker 01

Yeah, anyway, so that was a, that was the first thing I ever created. So I was a co-creator and produced it, co-wrote it and directed like the finale and started it. So that was like my big, that's my, that's my little love letter. Yeah, it's my baby to my people.

• 25:21Theo Von?

Oh, that's beautiful, dude. And was it, was it something, was that special to your dad or special to like some of your friends and family from home?

• 25:27Speaker 01

I think everyone because you have to, all the people I was, when I was 19, I hired on Baywatch to like make a part of this to craft services to your drivers. They knew me when I was 19. I'm coming back at 45 at the time, 44 and coming back and making something like doing Baywatch was just kind of shit. And then coming back and doing something that's about our people.

• 25:48Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 25:49Speaker 01

As a real big honor, man, for sure. It's like, I mean, that's my ultimate goal. I'm kind of done now.

• 25:54Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 25:54Speaker 01

I'm just gonna do fun, fun shit and I want to do comedy. Like we're gonna do Minecraft with Jack Black again.

• 26:00Theo Von?

  Oh, nice.

• 26:01Speaker 01

Excited to do that. Thanks, buddy. Sorry about that.

• 26:04Theo Von?

You're good, man. Um, when you were doing that show, did you go to parts of the island and learn stuff about Hawaii that you didn't know before?

• 26:13Speaker 01

Yes, yes, but also like gotta go and just scout and go to places I've never been, meet uncles and aunties and people who are just, know so much about our culture. Like we had to, yes, had to learn, um, you know, we had to do it. We did it in Olelo Hawaii. So.

• 26:30Theo Von?

  You did it in where?

• 26:30Speaker 01

We, Olelo Hawaii. So we did it in our, in our, in our native language. Yeah, native tongue. So all the other characters in here, I'd say half of the cast, it's all Polynesia. So you gotta understand like there's, there's, there's Maori, New Zealand, there's Samoan, there's, there's Tongan. There's, uh, there might've been some Tishan, but like all of us and, and Kanakamali, which is us. All these different people who had different, their own languages, they had to learn this ancient language. So like everyone in there doing that is like, it's hard. It was the hardest for me, but um, I thought it would have been a lot easier, but it was, it was very challenging for me.

• 27:09Theo Von?

Yeah, the Tongans are tough, huh?

• 27:12Speaker 01

Samoans and Tongans aren't, yeah, they're all tough.

• 27:15Theo Von?

  Who's the toughest one now?

• 27:17Speaker 01

Um, I mean, I, I wouldn't fuck with the Tongan.

• 27:20Theo Von?

  Bring up a Tongan.

• 27:21Speaker 01

  I wouldn't fuck with a Samoan. It's like, I'm good.

• 27:25Theo Von?

Pull up a pair of Tongans. I heard you should never have just one.

• 27:27Speaker 01

I mean, look at that guy over there. The, I mean, yeah, that, there you go. Click on that one. That guy on the right.

• 27:33Theo Von?

  Oh my God.

• 27:36Theo Von?

That guy is doing something different, huh?

• 27:39Speaker 01

You know what? We're all low, so it's it's nice. We don't have to fuck around to get in a fight with the Tongan.

• 27:44Theo Von?

Yeah, no, I'm never gonna. But that's wild.

• 27:47Speaker 01

Polynesians in general, man. They're just like, oh, it's such a different breed.

• 27:51Theo Von?

Dude, you know who I like? Filipinos.

• 27:55Theo Von?

They're kind of like the comfortable Polynesians, you know?

• 27:57Speaker 01

  There you go, yeah.

• 27:58Theo Von?

And they're the smiling people, you know?

• 28:00Speaker 01

  They are.

• 28:01Theo Von?

And they're the last people that most people see before they die because a lot of them work in hospice care, which is crazy. When you think about that, imagine you're laying there and you open up a little

• 28:14Theo Von?

and it's just some Filipinos, dude.

• 28:17Theo Von?

And they're just singing something nice to you?

• 28:20Speaker 01

  I mean, it sounds nice.

• 28:22Theo Von?

  That's a portable Hawaii, dude.

• 28:23Speaker 01

I just hope my my kids are there and they're looking after me, but I'm gonna put that shit on them. You put me in a home, I'm gonna haunt your ass. I'm gonna fucking haunt your ass. You put me in a home.

• 28:34Theo Von?

  Dude.

• 28:34Speaker 01

I'm gonna have my fans break me out.

• 28:36Theo Von?

You think you'd be a good ghost, though, dude?

• 28:38Speaker 01

There's another script right there. Me and you old, we'll just get all do all the old makeup.

• 28:41Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 28:41Speaker 01

Yeah? Just us in our dying ages in a in a nursing home?

• 28:45Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 28:45Speaker 01

  Our fans break us out.

• 28:47Theo Von?

And they break us out and then what?

• 28:48Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 28:49Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 28:50Speaker 01

We go to a Comic Con for like the for the old time days. And you interview them all.

• 28:54Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 28:57Speaker 01

We do like The Hangover. We just relive all the good times.

• 29:01Theo Von?

Yeah, it sounds just like The Hangover.

• 29:04Theo Von?

At least we'll go see it, man.

• 29:07Theo Von?

It's just time that we all know that PrizePix is America's number one sports picks app and the best place to win cash while watching sports. The app is really easy to use. That's what I love. Just pick more or less on two plus players and lock your picks in. That's it. That's my favorite thing. It's just simple. You pick more or less and it's specific. Now you got your guys in the game. And right here's my lineup for the big game. Tell me if you want. Look, I don't know what I'm doing. But you can even follow me on PrizePix at @TheOvon. And on top of picking lineups, you can now pick teams. On PrizePix, pick the winner, total and spread on the big game.

• 29:50Theo Von?

Team picks are available in 30 states, including California, Texas, and Florida. Boy, God, where's the cops? And right here is who I'm going with to win the big game next Sunday. PrizePix, it's good to be right. Play responsibly. PrizePix offers DFS and free to play $50 provided as PrizePix DFS lineups. Must spend $5 of real money on PrizePix before receiving bonus lineups. You know, to me, the future of finances feels strange. That's why I like to cover my bases. And when I want to add more Bitcoin, Moonpay is usually the first app I reach for. You don't need to buy a full coin. And the whole process is clean, simple, and easy to understand. Moonpay has become a major partner of the show, and I've actually chosen to accept my compensation from them in Bitcoin. The Bitcoin lives in my personal Moonpay wallet, and it's fully in my control. Control de moi. No one else has access to it. With the US dollar constantly moving up and down, this felt like a smart way for me

• 31:15Theo Von?

to diversify a bit and potentially get more long-term value out of the partnership. Just keep in mind, even though Moonpay makes it easy to buy crypto, you should always do your own research and understand what you're getting into. Crypto can be volatile, and there's always the possibility of losing money. Moonpay is a tool to facilitate your transactions, not a source of financial advice. Trade responsibly. • 32:53Speaker 01

  Shut up.

• 32:54Theo Von?

Yeah, we wrote it, funded it, everything.

• 32:56Speaker 01

  I love David Spade.

• 32:57Theo Von?

Oh, he's the best, dude. So I'm excited about that.

• 33:00Speaker 01

Tommy Boy, one of my favorites.

• 33:01Theo Von?

Oh, that was one of the best ever. Was there a...

• 33:05Speaker 01

That's just an old time buddy, or you just like, yeah?

• 33:07Theo Von?

He and I became friends like four years ago, five years ago, and we became really close friends. And then we, uh, we started, we had kind of an idea, and when he started writing it, it took like a year. And then we decided to just self-fund it. And it was like a $4 million budget, I think. And then we got, I think we got one investor. And, um, yeah, and we made it. We shot it in like 23 days.

• 33:28Speaker 01

  Wonderful. What's this called?

• 33:29Theo Von?

It was exciting. It's called Bus Boys. It's about two guys who aren't doing that good. And one of them loses his girlfriend to a waiter at a restaurant. And so we figure if we can become waiters, then everything will be great.

• 33:42Speaker 01

That's why you're still gonna be the bus boy. You're talking about like what we were talking about, like professional bus boys, yeah?

• 33:47Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 33:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:48Theo Von?

I've channeled. This wasn't, yeah, people like, this is just whimsical. What are you guys doing? No, this is in me, bitch. You feel me? So, yeah, I definitely channeled that. And David was a bus boy too, in Arizona as well, when he was growing up.

• 33:59Speaker 01

They wouldn't make me a waiter. That was my last job. Yeah, I was a bus boy at two places.

• 34:04Theo Von?

  I could see that. I think I...

• 34:05Speaker 01

They wouldn't let me. They were, they're just trying to hold me down.

• 34:07Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, yeah. Dude, there's a glass ceiling.

• 34:10Speaker 01

Yeah. Never I never made a waiter.

• 34:12Theo Von?

  Yeah, it's everywhere.

• 34:13Speaker 01

Fuck waiters. Busboys are dope dude. Busboys are dope.

• 34:17Theo Von?

  Busboys are dope.

• 34:18Speaker 01

They're always the coolest. They're gonna have the drugs. They have all they're gonna know where the shit's at.

• 34:20Theo Von?

They're gonna have the drugs. They're gonna have the bread.

• 34:22Speaker 01

Waitresses. You know what I mean? Like busboys are dope.

• 34:24Theo Von?

Yeah, who you gonna get extra butter?

• 34:25Speaker 01

They're in with the dishwasher and like, you know what I mean?

• 34:27Theo Von?

  Yeah, who's got extra butter?

• 34:29Speaker 01

  The busboys do.

• 34:30Theo Von?

  Yeah, for sure.

• 34:31Speaker 01

I love salt and pepper. Guess who's got that?

• 34:33Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 34:34Speaker 01

Let's go see a waiter do that. Now they're all fucking making more money than you.

• 34:37Theo Von?

Yeah, they're all counting. They're usually counting their money somewhere.

• 34:40Speaker 01

Tips is what they're not doing.

• 34:41Theo Von?

Type shit, homie. That's what they're doing, dude. And who's got the extra salt that?

• 34:45Speaker 01

You know what? I'm gonna tip my waitress less and I'm gonna slip my busboy more. I haven't been doing that. Honestly, where's the fucking busboy at? I'm gonna throw him. I'm gonna throw the homies or homeettes some fucking loot.

• 34:56Theo Von?

Started at the bottom. It's all happened because of Reagan, because of trickle down economics. Who started trickle down economics? Bring that up. It was Reagan, wasn't it? Give it to the waiters. They'll give it to the busboys. That's not helping. I was just at the nurses' strike.

• 35:12Theo Von?

The largest nurses' strike in New York City history is going on right now.

• 35:14Speaker 01

  Right now?

• 35:15Theo Von?

Yeah. And I just came from it a little while ago. And it was awesome. I like strikes because it's like being in a parade, kinda because I'm from, because I'm from New Orleans. So it's like, you're definitely partying that a band out there. Yeah, but it's the largest nurses' strike that's ever happened in New York City. It's going on right now.

• 35:30Speaker 01

  Oh, my goodness.

• 35:30Theo Von?

See if you can play that real. There you go. Play it right there.

• 35:38Speaker 01

  They're from New Orleans.

• 35:41Theo Von?

The band was pretty good. They played, um, actually they did Abbey Road. They did a little album.

• 35:45Speaker 01

  Really?

• 35:46Theo Von?

Which I thought was impressive, dude. Even that one where it's like, bang, bang, Maxwell Silverhammer came down upon his head. Yeah, they even played that one. And they only had three instruments. But yeah, I loved it. I really enjoyed that. My sister's a nurse, so I was like, oh, this is going on, dude. I'm out there. Now, did I think I would meet some hot nurses? Yeah. But a lot of them are men these days. Which doesn't mean they can't be hot, but, you know, I had a different bedside manner in mind, you know, so. Anyway, moving on, Jason, you pervert.

• 36:21Theo Von?

So yeah, do you get to a point in your career? Cause it is interesting to hear you say where you feel like you have like some personal achievement or some personal success or something where you kind of feel like, okay, I'm okay. You know, does that make any sense to you kind of? Cause we're all trying to like, we're all trying to like, everyone's trying to feel like, you know, we all want to feel some sort of, a lot of people want to feel some sort of success, right? I mean, I noticed in my own life, what, what makes me feel like, okay, I'm, I'm, I'm okay for me, you know?

• 36:55Speaker 01

I mean, it's a, it's a very calm, it's a complex. I mean, there's many things I'm going through and maybe that's just my age or like, you know, I've been like you were saying, trying to accomplish, get to a certain place. And uh, just because you, just because uh, even in those, in those worst times and like maybe not doing the things I really truly want to be doing, but I'm doing it to put food on the table. And then I get to the place where I'm actually like, wow, I'm producing, writing, doing all these things and this is my dream come true. Why am I, why was I happier when I was in the fucking hole? Why was I happier back then? Is it just cause it's nostalgic? Is it, I mean, why was it because I'm still hunting and I'm hungry?

• 37:40Speaker 01

I mean, I got to this place where I considered like, well, I don't have any more per se dreams as an actor. Like I never thought I'd get this far in the first place. You know what I mean? The biggest dream to me was like make a TV show or a movie for my people, make a real true authentic coin story. Like I did that and, and the comic book I always read when I was a kid and that, well, I'm fucking playing him.

• 38:03Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 38:04Speaker 01

And then you're like the video game that I fucking loved, I'm fucking playing him too. And it's like, all these things are great. And then.

• 38:13Speaker 01

Sometimes you're you it's but you're not. Why do you not feel?

• 38:18Theo Von?

Does that happen? You think even like in career, like you got such a great career. Does it happen even in careers like yours? Like, do you think that's just a human thing? I guess it's just a human thing. Yeah.

• 38:27Speaker 01

Yeah, but I just like I just try to. I just try to have gratitude in all of it, man, because, you know, I have so many friends that are maybe could be ill, sick, dying. And just so, I mean, I'm kind of the kind of person like pretty high energy and I'm really, really generally happy. Like, I'm like Christmas morning every morning. I'm pretty fucking happy. I don't need coffee. I'm jazzed.

• 38:49Theo Von?

  Dang.

• 38:50Speaker 01

And so I love, I love morning. I love being up and I don't necessarily sleep that much. So I'll probably die earlier.

• 38:57Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 38:57Speaker 01

  But my days are filled.

• 38:59Theo Von?

Yeah, they're gonna be filled with fricking Filipinos as well, dude. That's for sure. If this is the rate you're going at.

• 39:05Speaker 01

I can't sit still and I think if I don't have those things, I was pretty self-destructive if I wasn't creating and constantly doing stuff. So I think that's what gives me like, I don't necessarily think there's, I measure it by, oh, because I'm in this movie or this and this and that. I'm actually like, there's these little smaller things that I love doing.

• 39:23Theo Von?

  Staying busy.

• 39:24Speaker 01

Yeah, but it's like the things I really truly love. Like, I'm an environmentalist at heart. So there's, you know, I work as much as I can with different, just.

• 39:33Speaker 01

It's all the things that the little small things that probably no one gives a shit about that I give about. And it's like trying to do those things that I really love. And it's not about being necessarily seen, but it's trying to help in certain things that I love and care about.

• 39:44Theo Von?

Yeah. Do you think like a lot of that stuff comes back to you more like once you've kind of gotten to a certain level? Or once you kind of, because life just kind of gets busy, like in your 30s and 40s, life gets busy, right? And especially if you have a busy career like yours or a career where you have to travel a lot and it's and it varies from place to place, location to location. I find that it like, it just gets, it gets hard to focus on some of the smaller things that are more important to me sometimes.

• 40:09Theo Von?

So is it easier? Do you feel like it's easier now in your career to be able to have more time for those types of things?

• 40:13Speaker 01

I don't have any time for those things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have a hard time saying no. So I say yes to everything and I'm like, I have, I work a lot. And so if someone comes in and I'm fully loaded, I'm like, yeah, I can't not not say yes. And so I don't know. Here's the thing. I'm doing everything I love to do.

• 40:33Theo Von?

  Right.

• 40:33Speaker 01

So I don't ever think of it as work. I'm just doing things I love to do. And so that's maybe the biggest honor of it all. And I think, uh, I mean, that's why I want my kids now, they look at me, they like, oh, my dad does what he loves to do, which maybe I didn't when earlier in my, in my life. It was just like, make sure I can put, it was very worrisome earlier, cause like I said, I wasn't on the best shows.

• 40:57Theo Von?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 40:58Speaker 01

Yeah, it's like, if people are like, oh, why don't you go do that movie or that one? I'm like, I didn't have an agent, I didn't get called, like, I couldn't get those things. And so now I'm in a good place. But I'm like, oh, I'm making up for lost time. I'm like, there's so many things I want to do in this life. And so I'm, it's a bit crammed in. But I'm, I'm in, I've, I'm, I'm kind of doing everything I love.

• 41:15Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 41:16Speaker 01

I wouldn't say I'm taking care of myself the best, but I'm like, that's, something's gotta give. I'm like, fuck, that's why I'm this big. You can burn this bitch down.

• 41:24Theo Von?

Yeah. Well, if it's not, if those are.

• 41:25Speaker 01

  Filipinos, here we go.

• 41:27Theo Von?

Yeah, here we go, dude. Fire up the feely truck.

• 41:31Speaker 01

  Huh?

• 41:31Theo Von?

Back them up, dude, let them in the room. Um.

• 41:35Speaker 01

But what about you? I mean, like, you're just blown up and like in your time. I mean, how does it feel to you? Do you?

• 41:43Theo Von?

I think this year I started, just recently started thinking, having a little bit more like, okay, I think everything will be okay. Like, I'll be able to eat and have a roof over my head for the rest of my life. So have a little bit more semblance of like, okay, what does, um, things look like for like those around me? What are some other things that I can put my time into? Like, I've been touring mostly for probably about 17 years for probably half the weeks, you know? And so, um, this year I don't have any tour dates. And so it's nice to, like, be like, oh, what does this look like? Like, I had like two months with no, three months with no tour dates. And I was like, this is crazy. What is this?

• 42:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:21Theo Von?

So there's still like a lot of podcasting and there's still a ton of work to do with this. But it's not like I have to travel as much. So sometimes for the first time, it feels like my spirit even can be in like one place where it can like gather its thoughts, you know? Um, I feel like I've just been playing hide and go seek with myself for a long time, just even geographically. Uh, so having some more, um, just.

• 42:43Theo Von?

Uh, having some more like solace and being in one spot is really kind of helped me just to start to get a look around me.

• 42:51Speaker 01

Do you go stir crazy? Cause we're such gypsy. We have to, you know, our careers are.

• 42:56Theo Von?

A little bit, but sometimes that's a trap for me.

• 42:58Speaker 01

I know, but you're like, I need, I'm like, oh my God, I would love to get some rest. Then you get like rest for a solid week and you're like, I gotta get the fuck out of here.

• 43:05Theo Von?

I gotta get the fuck out of this rest.

• 43:07Speaker 01

Like my ass hurts, my back hurts.

• 43:10Theo Von?

And you're in a rest area along the interstate. You're like, this is insane.

• 43:14Speaker 01

Like, do you get that where you're just like, oh man, I got, I gotta get out.

• 43:17Theo Von?

Oh, for sure. But I think sometimes I gotta be careful because that's a trap, man. That's just the devil trying to get me back out there.

• 43:22Speaker 01

Do you work with that in sobriety? Like is that, is like a thing? Do you have to, do you A?

• 43:26Theo Von?

Yeah, I go to A, I go to A meetings and I go to that stuff. It's been like, you know, I've been in and out of sobriety for 10 years, probably mostly in. And so that's been good. So, um, yeah, I like it just because otherwise, yeah, I just can't handle, like I'll do too much of the,

• 43:43Theo Von?

of the cocaine, to be honest, but you know, I'll, I'll do too much of it. And so I just don't want to be, just don't, I don't want to be around it, you know? I'll even walk and just look straight at the ground and see if anybody's dropped it sometimes outside.

• 43:57Theo Von?

I'll fucking run right into something. What was that? Not an eight ball, I'll tell you that. I just peeped this whole block. Uh, but yeah, man. Dude, I'll tell you this crazy story. So one time my friend and I, and I didn't even know anything about drugs. My friend and I are going to my apartment. He was staying in town. Uh, he was staying in town. He's getting out of the taxi. He dropped a little thing of cocaine into the taxi. When I'm getting out, I just see it on the thing. I pick it up and put it in my pocket. So he didn't tell me that he had ever done cocaine. And he'd been doing it, but he didn't tell me, right? And I just thought he was kind of itchy or whatever, you know, because it was spring. And so we go in my apartment. He's like, hey man, will you help me look for something? And I'm like, yeah, what is it?

• 44:39Theo Von?

And he like wouldn't tell me what it was. And I'm like, that doesn't make any sense, but yeah, I'll help you, you know? So me and him are walking around looking for something that I don't know what it is. Okay. And then I kept sneaking off and doing the cocaine, right? So dude, now at one point he gave up and went to sleep. I'm walking around my apartment, looking everywhere for something. And I, it was, it was the drugs I was doing.

• 45:05Theo Von?

  Absolute insanity, dude.

• 45:07Speaker 01

  Absolute insanity, bro.

• 45:09Theo Von?

So, yeah, I mean, you just, people can get lost out there. But yeah, dude.

• 45:15Speaker 01

Did you ever read that Miles Davis, you ever read Miles Davis's biography? There's this great part where he was up in Harlem. And you know, at the time, he's at the peak of his career, he had this Lamborghini, let's just say it's like bright yellow. It snows, it's snowing outside and he comes up to this spot and he's in Harlem, gets out, goes in and he's coming back out and he gets back in the car. And he's got some drugs, comes back out, gets in the car, looks down and he's like, fuck, he like, drugs are, all the coke is all over the floor. And he's fucking freaking out and then he thinks he's gonna get busted by the cops, so he just gets out, goes back in, hides in his fucking closet,

• 45:59Speaker 01

waits it out for a couple of hours sweating it out and he's on the drugs.

• 46:02Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 46:03Speaker 01

Comes back out hours later. Car's still there because they know it's Miles Davis, opens up the door and all the drugs are gone. And he like clicks and he's like, there was fucking snow on his shoes.

• 46:16Speaker 01

When he got in and like totally lost his mind, like he just probably spilled all the fuck, I was like, that's a good time. That was a pro story.

• 46:26Theo Von?

Yeah, and he didn't drive, which is the best part, guys.

• 46:28Speaker 01

That's the best part, good job, Miles.

• 46:30Theo Von?

October 21st, 1972, Miles Davis, never mind, wrecked his coke-filled Miura and broke both of his legs, so he took it for one lap. Jim Glickenhouse was the first person on scene, Miles was in the hospital for a long time and didn't play for almost a year, dang. That'll make you quit doing drugs right there, that'll make you quit smoking, dude, that's his, that's his drowning near the reef right there, dang. If my, dude, but if my legs were broken, I could still do cocaine, I think.

• 47:00Theo Von?

And I hate to say that and don't say that to your kids. But um, what's uh, so now you have children?

• 47:07Speaker 01

  I've had them, man.

• 47:08Theo Von?

Yeah. Did you collect some along the way or did, I didn't mean that, but did you like, did you have a family that you had planned? Or was it just kind of like, did you sort of have children?

• 47:16Speaker 01

No, uh, yeah, no, I was, I was married and had kids, yep.

• 47:20Theo Von?

Oh, nice, man. Was it cool being a father? Like, was that like a scary thing for you? Like?

• 47:25Speaker 01

It's actually funny. He's, he's just got into.

• 47:27Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah, beautiful kids.

• 47:29Speaker 01

He just got into acting. He's, I mean, they've been acting and doing.

• 47:33Theo Von?

  Wolf is his name?

• 47:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:35Theo Von?

  Oh, that's a cool name.

• 47:36Speaker 01

Nicole Wolf, but he's uh, he's gonna be in Dune with me.

• 47:40Theo Von?

  Dune?

• 47:41Speaker 01

  He's, yeah, he's Leto Junior.

• 47:43Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 47:44Speaker 01

So he auditioned on his own and got it and killed.

• 47:48Theo Von?

  Was he geeked?

• 47:50Speaker 01

I mean, he, those guys grew up watching me, you know, he was sitting on Affleck's lap and she's sitting with Gal and then, you know, when doing Justice League, they were like six and eight.

• 48:00Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 48:01Speaker 01

I mean, Justice League, they grew up on set with me, so they just.

• 48:03Theo Von?

  So it's so much.

• 48:04Speaker 01

So it's like just, yeah, I mean, he was in a Batman outfit as, for at least five years, like the kid is, loves all that and loved Dune and so, yeah, my babies are. Lil is a singer, so she wants to continue in music and Wolf wants to do acting, so, which I was very. She's such a gnarly business, so I'm like. I'm like, go be a doctor, use your brain.

• 48:26Theo Von?

Yeah, and go pay these nurses, doc. Um, actually, it's the hospitals that aren't paying them, but um. Yeah, dude, that's gotta be interesting if your kid wants to go down that road, but then you'll have a lot of experience too, and you'll be there to help him be supportive in that way.

• 48:39Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 48:40Theo Von?

And he's doing it, he's young, so he can try it out.

• 48:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

• 48:44Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 48:44Speaker 01

  Guide him. You have kids?

• 48:46Theo Von?

No, I don't have any kids yet. I wanna get some kids. I wanna uh, sorry, I would like to have children, I'm not trying to get some kids. Um, no, I want all kids to be free if they're not. I don't know them.

• 48:59Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 49:00Theo Von?

I don't wanna know them. That's my new, that's my rule. If I don't know kids, I don't wanna know them. You know, people like, hey, I want you to shoot my kids. I'm like, fuck no. I don't wanna meet your kids, dude. People are perverts, man. You know, these politicians. Um, anyway, what else are we talking about?

• 49:17Speaker 01

You got a special lady you're with right now?

• 49:19Theo Von?

No, I don't. I get that, that, that's another thing.

• 49:22Speaker 01

  Right now, too?

• 49:23Theo Von?

  What's that?

• 49:23Speaker 01

  Your free bird?

• 49:24Theo Von?

Free bird, yeah, but I would like to have a, I would like to have a spouse. I would like to have a woman spouse, too. And I would like to, yeah, I, I would like to have that, man. So it'll happen. It's just like, you know, I just gotta, I think for one, too, I've just been going all the time. It was like, I'd be like, I'd be like dating somebody and I'd be out of town for a while and you come back and you're like, oh shit, I forgot about this. And not in a bad way, it's just like my brain was somewhere else. It's hard for me to focus on stuff sometimes, so, um, I think I just feel like more of that semblance of like, okay, now this maybe could be more manageable. But I gotta change some of my own ways and stuff like that a little bit, too, and, and, uh, and be more purposeful. I think about just like, just different prayer and different things like that overall, you know? So.

• 50:08Speaker 01

You come from a big family? You got brothers, sisters?

• 50:10Theo Von?

Yeah, I got three siblings and, uh, one of them is married.

• 50:14Speaker 01

  You're, you're a baby?

• 50:15Theo Von?

I'm the middle, one of the middle kids, two boys and two girls. So we got a good little group.

• 50:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:19Theo Von?

Um, but, yeah, nobody in my family can swim that good, though.

• 50:25Speaker 01

  No?

• 50:25Theo Von?

  Yeah, land people.

• 50:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:28Theo Von?

If you need us, we'll be on the land, you know? That's our motto, dude.

• 50:34Theo Von?

That's our family motto. I'm gonna get it tattooed on my brother's.

• 50:36Speaker 01

When you're in Orleans, like, what kind of sports are you into?

• 50:39Theo Von?

Basketball. Dude, is it true that the all, that they have the team called the Tall Blacks and?

• 50:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:44Theo Von?

Is that true? The basketball team in New Zealand is called the Tall Blacks?

• 50:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:48Theo Von?

  That's fricking amazing, dude.

• 50:51Theo Von?

We got, yeah, in New Orleans, we have, well, we have, some of the players are kinda thick over there, you know? So we got the Round Browns over there. That's our team. Um, no offense, Zion Williamson, but his weight does fluctuate. Um, and he's cost our city a lot of money, but what is this? Yeah, this is, oh, that's the New Zealand All Blacks? I don't know.

• 51:13Theo Von?

This is a bunch of Ben Simmonses. They got maybe one and a half brothers on this team, dude. And this, but hey, that's awesome though. Good for them.

• 51:22Speaker 01

  You a big basketball fan?

• 51:24Theo Von?

I like college football. It's probably my favorite.

• 51:26Speaker 01

  College football. Who's your team?

• 51:28Theo Von?

I'm a Tennessee and a LSU guy. So those are my squads. What about you?

• 51:33Speaker 01

I don't do college football that much.

• 51:35Theo Von?

You didn't get into it with your size? I'm sure they were like, get out of here.

• 51:37Speaker 01

  I was hockey.

• 51:38Theo Von?

  Really?

• 51:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 51:40Theo Von?

  You were goalie?

• 51:41Speaker 01

  Soccer. No, I was center.

• 51:42Theo Von?

  Nah.

• 51:43Speaker 01

But I love, I love soccer too, man. I was, you know, play soccer. But then I was a skateboarder. You know what I mean? Like they all want you to get into wrestling. Yeah, that's weird. That's weird. I have a path.

• 51:53Theo Von?

But if you were a surfer, that makes sense.

• 51:54Speaker 01

Yeah, no, I just grew up skating. I wasn't always this big. I mean, like, you know, but that's what I was doing when I was little and took that into high school. But I love skateboarding. And then surprisingly, my main love is rock climbing.

• 52:07Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 52:08Speaker 01

So I traveled the world with rock climbing and that was kind of my thing.

• 52:10Theo Von?

Did you ever go rock climbing with?

• 52:13Speaker 01

  Sharma?

• 52:13Theo Von?

  Jared Leto?

• 52:15Speaker 01

No, no. Well, I mean, I've seen him out when we've been climbing. Yeah.

• 52:18Theo Von?

  He loves it.

• 52:18Speaker 01

He does. He climbs a lot with Honold.

• 52:21Theo Von?

  Honold? Oh, Alex Honold?

• 52:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:23Theo Von?

  Oh, cool.

• 52:24Speaker 01

Yeah, he climbs a lot with him. They do like, they'll cap and all kind of stuff together.

• 52:28Theo Von?

He took me to a party here one time. I just remembered in New York and everybody was kind of dressed like they look like different birds and stuff. It was pretty crazy. And there was no air conditioning in the place. It was like fancy. It was, it was bizarre, but it was what you'd expect out of him. Yeah, that's people out on the rock right there. Yeah, rock climbing is pretty amazing, isn't it?

• 52:48Speaker 01

  I love it.

• 52:49Theo Von?

What makes you love it so much?

• 52:50Speaker 01

Well, it's something I did when I was little. It's the first moment, like my mom took me climbing in South Dakota and I just, the moment when I touched a rock and just moved on, it just felt like, like I'm probably better at climbing than I am at walking. Like it just, my body just feels, it's just something that you connect with, that you really enjoy.

• 53:06Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 53:06Speaker 01

But I love just the fear and the problem solving and like the fear of it all. Cause like we'll do like deep water soloing now in Mallorca and you like climb up and then you fall down in the water. But it's just like the challenge of like.

• 53:20Speaker 01

I love climbing stuff when I was a kid. It's like, how do you not like, I love climbing trees. I love just climbing. So I don't know. I'm a fucking gorilla. I don't know what to say.

• 53:28Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 53:29Speaker 01

Being in the dirt and I just enjoy taking my kids, my kids do it and it just keeps us out in nature. Something to do, I guess it'd be like fishing or hunting like for other people, but like being in nature and

• 53:40Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 53:40Speaker 01

And going to do adventures and, and you know, setting out to do something and accomplishing it.

• 53:46Theo Von?

  And there's

• 53:47Speaker 01

But also the other thing too is I think I'm very, very much, and I'm not diagnosed ADHD, but I'm just, I'm my, my, there's a lot of things going on. And I feel like when I ride motorcycles and I go rock climbing, it's just like, you can't do anything else but be there. So that's just like a little bit of my therapy or meditation is like, that's when everything just gets real clean and clear.

• 54:07Theo Von?

  Makes you focus in.

• 54:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:08Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 54:08Speaker 01

What you get, you know, everyone gets high on that or loves that. You know, I mean, when you can really mind, body, spirit connects and you

• 54:15Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 54:16Speaker 01

Something that's what you, you know.

• 54:18Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. When you're zipping down on a fricking motorcycle. You can't, yeah, it's hard to be like, oh, I gotta do that email or whatever.

• 54:24Speaker 01

Which is like everyone, you're in a car, you're like, you know, doing your makeup, you're eating food, you're talking to someone, you're not paying attention to shit. Where you're riding motorcycle, it's, you're, you're gonna die if you fucking, if you're out, if you're doing your makeup while you're riding your motorcycle, you're fucked.

• 54:37Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 54:37Speaker 01

  It's not easy.

• 54:38Theo Von?

Unless they come out with those self-driving motorcycles, which I read about, that's gonna be, I'm like, what are we doing now?

• 54:44Speaker 01

  Self-driving motorcycles?

• 54:45Theo Von?

Yeah, that's not what we need.

• 54:47Speaker 01

  No.

• 54:49Theo Von?

A lot of organ donors are motorcyclists. And I didn't mean to say that out loud to you, but you knew it.

• 54:54Speaker 01

I'm an organ donor. You an organ donor?

• 54:57Theo Von?

A lot of them are, yeah. You keeping them?

• 54:59Speaker 01

No, no. Yeah. I don't know if anyone wants them. Fucking pickled. I'm actually waiting for this AI and shit to come around and go like, yo, two new kidneys, livers and kidneys right here.

• 55:12Theo Von?

  Livers and kidneys.

• 55:13Speaker 01

  That's what I need, bro.

• 55:14Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. I want a fresh sack of lungs, boy, them inner tits. Yeah.

• 55:18Speaker 01

And then just nail them like, yeah. Thirty more years just bashing these bitches up.

• 55:23Theo Von?

  Yeah, dude.

• 55:24Speaker 01

  Toughen up.

• 55:25Theo Von?

Bro, that'd be crazy. You're like ninety.

• 55:27Speaker 01

  Swap them out.

• 55:28Theo Von?

  Yeah, like, yeah, I'm ninety-five, but I got a seven-year-old liver.

• 55:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:32Theo Von?

  You're just paring on that.

• 55:33Speaker 01

Just getting hammered drunk on one Bud Light. Fucking sick.

• 55:36Theo Von?

Sleeping in somebody's boat or whatever. You ever realize that you spent your entire morning thinking about lunch? It's nine AM and somehow I'm already in negotiations with myself about how I'm gonna spend twenty dollars on a sandwich at noon. Their powder starts at less than three dollars per meal, has forty grams of protein, and mixes with water or milk in about thirty seconds. I like Huell's shakes because they're clean and it's quick.

• 56:21Theo Von?

Sometimes it may, I just, I would just want to make sure I have everything I need to keep going the way I want to keep going in a healthy manner. So with Huell, basically, lunch went from a daily logistical problem to a thing I can solve in about thirty seconds. Make healthy eating simple. • 59:37Theo Von?

made you and Dave Battista become such friends, do you think?

• 59:42Speaker 01

Well, we do a lot of action. And when generally, there's not a lot of big guys that are good actors and do action. It's kind of a rare thing to have all of them. And I think... Dave is a phenomenal actor and I really wanted to fight him and see and I was like, dude, I would love to go toe to toe with him. And it's just kind of like, yeah, I respect him and then when we met, we're very different, but like super, you know,

• 1:00:15Speaker 01

there's no ego, there's no like, we're very supportive of each other, we understand the story. Like, it's just a wonderful, when you find an acting partner that you just, you're there for the story, instead of like your career, you're, a lot of guys, a lot of famous dudes can't bleed or can't get hurt. I'm like, fuck, I die in everything. My kids beg me not to die anymore. I'm like, that's how, that's how you fucking eat. I'm like, you're not gonna die again. I'm like, everything, that's how you have your life.

• 1:00:46Speaker 01

So, I'm not afraid to do all that kind of stuff and, you know, bleeding and I think Dave likes to get down and dirty too, so. But he's just a really great guy. The reason why I want to do it again is because it's just a good working relationship, yeah.

• 1:01:01Theo Von?

  Yeah, his acting is great.

• 1:01:02Speaker 01

Yeah. I saw him in Blade Runner and I just thought he was, he was phenomenal and it is so subtle. He's very just like, the opposite of me. I couldn't be subtle if you tried. Like, it's just.

• 1:01:13Theo Von?

I thought you did a great job in this movie, man.

• 1:01:15Speaker 01

  Thanks, bud.

• 1:01:16Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:16Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 1:01:16Theo Von?

I don't, I don't know if I even pay attention. I guess it's like, if you're not paying attention, if you don't, if you're not noticing the acting, then it's great, right? Isn't that kind of usual, the usual kind of, isn't that usually kind of the thought?

• 1:01:27Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. If it's not tripping you up, yeah.

• 1:01:30Theo Von?

Do you, do you feel like it's gotten easier to act over time? Like, do you start to just understand it better? Does it become a little bit more like a muscle? What is that like?

• 1:01:36Speaker 01

I just think I'm getting, I'm getting, you know, chances to do it now. Like, I've never even been in a rom-com. You know, like, my first comedy was last year with, with, with Jack Black doing Minecraft. So like, you know, it's just now finally catching on that I can.

• 1:01:52Theo Von?

  Do other stuff?

• 1:01:53Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm not just getting my ass kicked and dying all the time.

• 1:01:57Theo Von?

Yeah, you're not just a bouncer who's fricking going to the salon or whatever.

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

Yeah. I think after like Game of Thrones, like, people didn't know what to do with me. So it's like, he didn't speak English. So there was like, what the fuck do you do with Drogo? We're like, who are we gonna put is that in that rom-com? Drogo is, I mean, he's handsome. Like, let's, let's get that motherfucker. I don't, I hope he speaks English. Like, he's French. You know what I mean? Like, what are you gonna?

• 1:02:20Speaker 01

  So.

• 1:02:21Theo Von?

  This is hilarious. That's great.

• 1:02:24Speaker 01

Have you ever get to spend any time with Jack?

• 1:02:25Theo Von?

I haven't gotten to spend any time with him.

• 1:02:27Speaker 01

  Man.

• 1:02:28Theo Von?

  So funny.

• 1:02:29Speaker 01

No, he's just the, just like

• 1:02:33Speaker 01

the greatest human, man. Like you just would love just being with him. He's so much fun.

• 1:02:37Theo Von?

  Oh, that's great.

• 1:02:38Speaker 01

And it's just like, he's that all the time. You go, you know, after work, we go eat together. Like I just like people who they don't, they don't act one way. And then, you know, when it works over, there's someone different, you know? Like I'm just, I wear my heart on my sleeve. This is exactly who I am. It's what you're gonna get.

• 1:02:54Theo Von?

  Here we are.

• 1:02:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:57Theo Von?

Do you ever get people that confuse you for people a lot? Cause I'll have people come up to me sometimes and they think I'm Tony Cavalero. Do you get people like that sometimes, I think? Or even like this, like if you walked in downstairs, somebody might think you're Joaquin Phoenix downstairs. Because how he did that Letterman, remember? Pull up Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman that time.

• 1:03:14Speaker 01

  What?

• 1:03:15Theo Von?

See if we're close or not. Yeah.

• 1:03:20Speaker 01

Oh, that's pretty much it, bro. There's my twin brother right there, dude.

• 1:03:25Theo Von?

If you were Joaquin Phoenix today, this whole time.

• 1:03:27Speaker 01

  Bro, put these on.

• 1:03:28Theo Von?

If you tell me you're Joaquin Phoenix, bro, it's gonna get crazy in here. Oh, wow, huh?

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

  I'm fucking blind.

• 1:03:34Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:36Speaker 01

Those are, yeah. I wear this so I can see.

• 1:03:40Theo Von?

  Those are prescription.

• 1:03:41Speaker 01

Yeah, I know. I wear glasses.

• 1:03:43Theo Von?

  Dude, I wear glasses.

• 1:03:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:44Theo Von?

Mine are downstairs. My eyes are going bad.

• 1:03:46Speaker 01

I just can't do contacts. Can't put them in, man, but.

• 1:03:49Theo Von?

I'm not putting a little thing like that in my eye, like a little sight.

• 1:03:52Speaker 01

Would you ever get the little surgery?

• 1:03:55Theo Von?

I don't think I would. I don't want somebody going in my eye.

• 1:03:57Speaker 01

  I don't want that.

• 1:03:58Theo Von?

While I'm laying there like some pedophile.

• 1:04:01Speaker 01

I don't think you look like that guy, but do you know who the, uh, the dancing outlaws?

• 1:04:06Theo Von?

That guy that does that, uh, the Tennessee two-step guy?

• 1:04:10Speaker 01

Yeah. There he, there he are.

• 1:04:13Theo Von?

That guy. What's his name? Jessica? You can Jessica White? Bro.

• 1:04:18Speaker 01

Dude, you can totally play Jessica White.

• 1:04:19Theo Von?

  You could.

• 1:04:20Speaker 01

  You, dude, not me.

• 1:04:22Theo Von?

Oh, I thought you were saying you look like him.

• 1:04:23Speaker 01

No, man. Pull up the one where he's got no beard, that one in the middle. Dude, that's you for days. What are you talking about?

• 1:04:30Theo Von?

God. Listen, I said nice things about.

• 1:04:33Speaker 01

  I know, dude.

• 1:04:36Theo Von?

  This guy.

• 1:04:37Speaker 01

No, you don't get Jessica White?

• 1:04:40Theo Von?

This guy is a fucking listening to Methadone all day, which is a band. Uh, but it's only, yeah, I'm joking.

• 1:04:47Speaker 01

  Okay, alright, my bad.

• 1:04:49Theo Von?

No, that's okay. Is there any recent, uh, is there a recent interview with Jessica White? Did he pass away?

• 1:04:54Speaker 01

  He passed away.

• 1:04:55Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 1:04:56Speaker 01

You should listen to what he talks, but it's probably because you guys, maybe it's because you sound familiar.

• 1:05:02Theo Von?

  That's him?

• 1:05:04Speaker 01

No, that don't look like, he looks like Harris Thompson right there.

• 1:05:06Theo Von?

  Yeah, that is not.

• 1:05:07Speaker 01

  No, it's not.

• 1:05:08Theo Von?

  No.

• 1:05:09Speaker 01

Yeah, it says Jessica White. Yeah.

• 1:05:11Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 1:05:12Speaker 01

He's dead now. That's Kid Rock. You ever interview Kid Rock?

• 1:05:16Theo Von?

  Yeah, he lives in Nashville.

• 1:05:18Speaker 01

  That'd be easy then.

• 1:05:19Theo Von?

I see him there all the time. He has his.

• 1:05:21Speaker 01

Oh, he does? He's got a big club.

• 1:05:22Theo Von?

Yeah, he has a club and he has a, he has a crazy house there. He built like a replica of the White House up on this hill there.

• 1:05:27Speaker 01

  No shit.

• 1:05:28Theo Von?

It's insane. It's insane. It is, and he collects a lot of cool stuff. Bob is his real name, but he's a, he's a super interesting guy. And he's really nice too. That's his house right there.

• 1:05:38Speaker 01

  I think, holy shit.

• 1:05:40Theo Von?

  It's crazy, bro.

• 1:05:42Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:05:42Theo Von?

And it's got a lot of Kid Rock stuff in it. Nobody's a bigger fan of Kid Rock than Kid Rock, dude.

• 1:05:48Speaker 01

I feel like he, has he built, has he put, is he doing new albums?

• 1:05:52Theo Von?

Uh, yeah, he still does stuff. He has a Rock the Country, uh.

• 1:05:56Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:05:56Theo Von?

Pull that up. I think it's called Rock the Country that just came out, a tour, a new tour that just came out that Ella Langley's gonna be on, Jason Aldean, uh, Williams, Hank Williams. There you go, Kid Rock. Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll Creed.

• 1:06:10Speaker 01

  Under the sunlight.

• 1:06:12Theo Von?

Dude, I could see you play Scott Stapp in like a biopic, or biopic, whatever they call it.

• 1:06:17Speaker 01

You getting me back at that, Jessica White?

• 1:06:20Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:20Speaker 01

  I deserved it. I apologize.

• 1:06:22Theo Von?

Um, dude, you know what? I used to love Soundgarden, dude.

• 1:06:25Speaker 01

Of course. Yeah, man. What a legend.

• 1:06:27Theo Von?

And I feel, was that them?

• 1:06:32Theo Von?

Shit, maybe I don't know who they are.

• 1:06:35Theo Von?

These are the eyes of disarray.

• 1:06:38Speaker 01

Is that, is that, no, that's not.

• 1:06:39Theo Von?

  Would you even care?

• 1:06:43Theo Von?

And I'm feeling. Oh, it's Son of the Pilots.

• 1:06:46Speaker 01

Oh, Son of the Pilots, yeah.

• 1:06:47Theo Von?

Dude, Son of the Pilots was good, bro. What's the first, what's the first concert you ever went to?

• 1:06:52Speaker 01

Um, what the, I was at the Iowa State Fair. What the fuck is his name? He does bourbon, Wisconsin beer, uh, Jesus Christ, I'm blanking on his name.

• 1:07:00Theo Von?

  Trace Atkins, maybe?

• 1:07:01Speaker 01

  No. No, uh.

• 1:07:06Speaker 01

  God damn it.

• 1:07:08Theo Von?

  It's okay.

• 1:07:08Speaker 01

  Bad to the bone.

• 1:07:11Speaker 01

Yeah, George Surgen, yeah. One bourbon, one scotch, one beer. Ohio State Fair, baby.

• 1:07:16Theo Von?

Dude, how nice is that thing?

• 1:07:18Speaker 01

  Ohio State Fair?

• 1:07:18Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:19Speaker 01

It's amazing. Haven't been in years, funnel cake?

• 1:07:21Theo Von?

  Oof.

• 1:07:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:23Theo Von?

But I'm not driving across town for some, for a funnel cake. What, like, but I guess that one would be the best because you'd have all the animals, you'd have all the crafts.

• 1:07:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:30Theo Von?

  And the big rides.

• 1:07:31Speaker 01

I had a good time there when I was growing up.

• 1:07:33Theo Von?

  Yeah, I guess people did.

• 1:07:34Speaker 01

I couldn't, I couldn't walk around there now, I'd be fucking screwed, there's no way.

• 1:07:38Theo Von?

Yeah, you'd have to hide, you'd have to dress up like something.

• 1:07:40Speaker 01

  Those days are over, man.

• 1:07:42Theo Von?

But it's your size, do you have to disguise yourself as something unique if you're out in the public? Like, if you're in-

• 1:07:46Speaker 01

There's no way I'm gonna hide.

• 1:07:47Theo Von?

  You could hide.

• 1:07:48Speaker 01

I can't hide, I mean, I'm in the flannel and a hat, it's about as hiding as it gets.

• 1:07:52Theo Von?

If you got a special outfit.

• 1:07:54Speaker 01

I mean, you mean if I go out as like Boba Fett, or like, like, like fucking, with a helmet on, like Iron Man?

• 1:08:00Theo Von?

  I don't know, dude.

• 1:08:01Speaker 01

I mean, I could hide if I had a helmet on, yeah.

• 1:08:04Theo Von?

Yeah, if you wore like a football helmet or something?

• 1:08:09Speaker 01

I, I, I was in, um, Jordan one time, we were shooting dune, and I wanted to go see Petra. And I got all wrapped up and it was great because I got to, to walk through there, there's tons of tourists and so I did the whole, you know, full wrap and everything's on, but it was hot and this little bit of my triangles are sticking out. And we're walking through and this, this girl is like, sees and she goes,

• 1:08:33Speaker 01

  and I'm like,

• 1:08:35Speaker 01

this fucking thing gets me in trouble more than anything, man.

• 1:08:38Theo Von?

Cause is that a, is that like a Hawaiian tattoo?

• 1:08:41Speaker 01

Yeah, this is, this is basically tapped on, and I have one that goes on my head, goes right through there.

• 1:08:46Theo Von?

And how do people earn, do you earn them, or how do you get it?

• 1:08:48Speaker 01

This is like a family crest, they have it like that, it's like their guardian. This is the shark, and this is for protection, those are the ihe, the spear, this is the mono, the shark. So, basically, when I'm in the water and we're snorkeling, the shark knows to go to you because you're white and I'm Hawaiian, so it's like, this is what, this lets them know.

• 1:09:06Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's fair.

• 1:09:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:09:09Theo Von?

  I gotta get something.

• 1:09:11Speaker 01

You just roll with me, I'll be like, I'll point at somewhere else.

• 1:09:14Theo Von?

  I'll be on your back.

• 1:09:16Theo Von?

Pointing out the directions that way.

• 1:09:17Speaker 01

You ever seen any sharks? You ever seen any?

• 1:09:19Theo Von?

Uh, I went swimming with sharks sometime in South Africa. We're in a cage. Have you ever seen any?

• 1:09:23Speaker 01

  Like big great whites?

• 1:09:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:25Speaker 01

Did you see a big great white?

• 1:09:26Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. One came and got, so there were these two round cages off the boat. And since the edge of the boat's like this, and you have two circles, there's a space in between the cages, right up against the boat, like because it's two circles.

• 1:09:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:09:37Theo Von?

And one of the sharks got stuck right in there and he was absolutely going ape shit. And then another one came up and put his snout like in the cage. And I got to touch the top of it, pat him on the head a little bit. Pretty cool.

• 1:09:49Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:09:50Theo Von?

That old Doberman touch I put on him. You know, just two taps and two.

• 1:09:55Speaker 01

  Did you like South Africa?

• 1:09:56Theo Von?

Oh dude, it's the most beautiful place that I've been.

• 1:09:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:09:58Theo Von?

You know, is there a place you've been that really makes you feel like this is really something special?

• 1:10:02Speaker 01

I just got back from Guatemala. I went there with my lady.

• 1:10:04Theo Von?

  Oh, nice.

• 1:10:05Speaker 01

She's from Guatemala and that was my first time. So we went to like, we gotta go see the pyramids, which is like the largest pyramids in the world.

• 1:10:11Theo Von?

Bring them up. My father's from Nicaragua.

• 1:10:14Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:10:15Theo Von?

Yeah, which is neighbors to Guatemala, I think. Isn't it in Central America?

• 1:10:19Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:10:20Theo Von?

Ooh, that thing's nice. I'm surprised you don't live in one of those. Cause people think you do, dude.

• 1:10:25Speaker 01

Tikal, the one that, yeah, Tikal, the one that's, yeah, they're right, that one. Pretty spectacular. The one to the left. Food, culture, just so rich.

• 1:10:35Theo Von?

Wow. How long was y'all's trip for?

• 1:10:37Speaker 01

Antigua. I went to Antigua. Antigua's just like, I've never seen streets like that. Um, we were there for like two weeks, sorry, two weeks, seeing family.

• 1:10:47Speaker 01

You have the parents and the family.

• 1:10:49Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:49Speaker 01

See if they like me, you know. The fucking gringos coming in.

• 1:10:52Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah, huh?

• 1:10:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:10:54Theo Von?

But you weren't the gringo though.

• 1:10:55Speaker 01

  I was.

• 1:10:56Theo Von?

  To them, huh?

• 1:10:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:10:57Theo Von?

  Wow. Dude, it's good.

• 1:10:59Speaker 01

I got white blood in me.

• 1:11:00Theo Von?

It's good, yeah, that's a good point, dude.

• 1:11:01Speaker 01

  I see German blood, yeah?

• 1:11:02Theo Von?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:11:04Speaker 01

  And Irish.

• 1:11:04Theo Von?

Don't bring that honky blood around here, whitey. That's the kinda shit that I hear all the time.

• 1:11:10Speaker 01

But they love me. So I'm in. Yeah, I got, I got two thumbs up.

• 1:11:14Theo Von?

Did you get a, like, did you get a written review or had it, like, on the plane ride home, she read?

• 1:11:17Speaker 01

I could see it in their eyes.

• 1:11:18Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:19Speaker 01

And then, and I could, and I could, I could, I could feel the temperature. The aunties were cool with it. The nieces and nephews love me. The dad's amazing. I mean, I love her dad. We went to go see him play.

• 1:11:32Theo Von?

  He's a musician?

• 1:11:33Speaker 01

He's probably one of the biggest Latin, he maybe, no, he's definitely one of the biggest Latin musicians of all time ever.

• 1:11:40Theo Von?

  Really?

• 1:11:40Speaker 01

  Yeah, Ricardo Arjona.

• 1:11:42Theo Von?

Let's bring up a picture of this man.

• 1:11:44Speaker 01

  He's actually, he's got-

• 1:11:45Theo Von?

He's your father, he might could be your father in law.

• 1:11:46Speaker 01

Yeah, he's uh, he's doing um-

• 1:11:48Theo Von?

  Or your stepdad.

• 1:11:49Speaker 01

Time, Time, Times Square, two nights in a row.

• 1:11:51Theo Von?

  Ricardo Arjona.

• 1:11:52Speaker 01

Ricardo Arjona, yeah. Seka is the, is the new, his new tour.

• 1:11:56Theo Von?

  Seka?

• 1:11:57Speaker 01

  Yeah. Means skinny.

• 1:11:59Theo Von?

  Ooh, Ricardo Arjona.

• 1:12:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:02Theo Von?

God, I wanna be something like that.

• 1:12:04Speaker 01

He kinda looks like my old brother, right?

• 1:12:06Theo Von?

  You and him?

• 1:12:07Speaker 01

  Little bit, right?

• 1:12:08Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:12:09Speaker 01

  You can see it.

• 1:12:09Theo Von?

  That's what's up.

• 1:12:10Speaker 01

  If I were Latin.

• 1:12:12Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:12Speaker 01

But I'm not, I'm Hawaiian. And he's probably the biggest Guatemalan in history.

• 1:12:17Theo Von?

  He's very tall?

• 1:12:18Speaker 01

  He's like six, five.

• 1:12:19Theo Von?

No way, you can't even tell from this photo.

• 1:12:21Speaker 01

  I know.

• 1:12:21Theo Von?

They should say that on the poster. First of all, they should have a poster that says, hey, come see us, six, five Guatemalan.

• 1:12:28Speaker 01

  And he's, bro, he's, he's-

• 1:12:29Theo Von?

Dude, I'd pay forty bucks to go over and see that.

• 1:12:32Speaker 01

He's got two nights in a row at, at, uh, at, you know, at Times Square. I think he'll be playing Nashville too, bro.

• 1:12:37Theo Von?

  Really?

• 1:12:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:38Theo Von?

Dude, if he is, I'm gonna, I'm, I'm, I'll make sure to go and watch it.

• 1:12:41Speaker 01

Yeah, but he'd be great on the show too.

• 1:12:43Theo Von?

  I'll, I'll take a Latin, I'll, I'll take a Spanish girl out there on a date.

• 1:12:47Speaker 01

You definitely gonna meet, you definitely gonna meet some Spanish nurses.

• 1:12:51Theo Von?

  That's the place to go.

• 1:12:52Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:52Theo Von?

How, how do you say nurse in Spanish? Bring that up for me, fellas.

• 1:12:57Theo Von?

  Infamera? Ooh, sí.

• 1:13:00Speaker 01

  Infamera. Infamera.

• 1:13:03Theo Von?

Infamera. That's what I'm gonna say.

• 1:13:05Speaker 01

That's where it's at for you. They take care of you, love you.

• 1:13:08Theo Von?

  That's what I'm saying, dude.

• 1:13:09Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 1:13:10Theo Von?

Yeah. And yeah, there were ages when I was like, yeah, I'm gonna get, oh, I wanna find a, uh, like a model or something. And now it's like, and I'm getting older. I'll take a nurse.

• 1:13:19Speaker 01

  You've had all the models.

• 1:13:20Theo Von?

You know what I'm saying? I don't know about that, but I just have like, yeah, I just, you gotta think ahead, you know?

• 1:13:25Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. They'll take care of you. I don't know if models are gonna take care of you, but nurses take care of you.

• 1:13:29Theo Von?

Dude, you know a model's not gonna take care of you, dude. And she's not even gonna feed you anything, cause she doesn't eat anything.

• 1:13:36Theo Von?

What are you gonna do? Just both sit there and suck on an empty bottle together?

• 1:13:40Theo Von?

And she's lazy anyway, probably. Anyway, sorry.

• 1:13:46Theo Von?

What about this guitar dude? I saw you brought this in.

• 1:13:48Speaker 01

Well, yeah, cuz we're both tired. I was gonna take a little nap cuz I didn't wanna suck on your show.

• 1:13:52Theo Von?

  Appreciate that, man.

• 1:13:53Speaker 01

Yes, I'm probably like a solid six right now. I'm normally a ten. But I'm, we had the premiere before I came to Theo Barn, which was a big accident. So anyways, I was downstairs at Chelsea Guitars and found this in fifty-nine. It kinda went like, got a little bit of that watermelon color to it.

• 1:14:09Theo Von?

Yeah, it's beautiful. Cuz it's usually cherry, right?

• 1:14:12Speaker 01

Yeah, and then it just, they fades because of that paint they used back then, but it doesn't have the original pots, so it's kinda cheap. And then, you know, I'll, I'll put some, put some new pickups in it and it'll be like back to new.

• 1:14:25Theo Von?

Are, are you a collector of guitars or?

• 1:14:26Speaker 01

I am, I'm a big fan. I got a band. We play, we're gonna go play Dubai here on the twenty-eighth. And look, dude, I forgot to show you. Yeah.

• 1:14:35Theo Von?

I was in Dubai. I know, I was in Qatar, actually.

• 1:14:38Speaker 01

  Signed by Chuck Berry.

• 1:14:42Speaker 01

Yeah, they have all their guitars signed on there.

• 1:14:44Theo Von?

  Who is it?

• 1:14:44Speaker 01

Chuck Berry. The guy that's, that was just up on the

• 1:14:46Theo Von?

That's signed by Chuck Berry, dude? Oh, that's him.

• 1:14:49Speaker 01

  See, there's a guitar.

• 1:14:50Theo Von?

  Johnny B. Goode.

• 1:14:51Speaker 01

  There you go.

• 1:14:51Theo Von?

He used to carry his guitar in a rose. He between the trees by the railroad track. I loved him, dude. We used to listen to his tape all the time.

• 1:15:02Theo Von?

I had his cassette tape when I was young.

• 1:15:04Speaker 01

Actually, it might be a good idea. My son loves Chuck Berry. I might might do him right. When he turns eighteen, maybe I'll give him this guitar.

• 1:15:10Theo Von?

  Just let him play it.

• 1:15:14Theo Von?

You keep it. You know, he just booked a role in a movie next year. Like, he's doing fine, okay? He can get his own

• 1:15:21Speaker 01

  My love language is presence.

• 1:15:23Theo Von?

He can get his own stuff now. Are you?

• 1:15:24Speaker 01

  I am, yeah.

• 1:15:25Theo Von?

  Oh, that's pretty cool.

• 1:15:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:28Theo Von?

Oh, I heard that you were working with a water company.

• 1:15:31Speaker 01

Yeah, I started, I started this company called Moninalu.

• 1:15:34Theo Von?

  Moninalu?

• 1:15:35Speaker 01

  Moninalu. Started eight years ago.

• 1:15:38Speaker 01

I was on a flight and you know, you're flying over the on the plane and you see a Coca-Cola in aluminum can, you got beer in aluminum can, you got sparkling water aluminum can and they give you those little shitty Dasani water bottles with a cap, you know, the label and then there's like three different types of plastic on it that we can't recycle. This goes into our land and goes into our landfills and I'm a father, I don't want to see plastic, we don't need single-use plastic. Generally, I carry my own water bottle when I go to the airport, you fill it up. Eight years ago, they didn't even make, they didn't even have aluminum for water. So I went to Ball, people who make those cans, and I went to the aluminum company, I said, I'm gonna make a water

• 1:16:19Speaker 01

bottle with you. A water out of aluminum cans are like, we're not a, we're not a, we're not a, um, a water company. I was like, well, you are now. I'm off, man, let's do this. So we set out to do it and then we ended up making the first like screw can and went back on. And so we made mononalo and then it changed. Well, now it's got our, we put our movie on there. We put the labels on there. But see, I was got mononalo printed on the top. And so, once we kind of stopped single-use plastic and now, because at the time I went to Dasani and I went to, I went to the blue and the red guy, Coca-Cola Pepsi, and I was like, would you do this? Would you make the aluminum? They're like, it doesn't make sense to us because it's easier to do plastic. But

• 1:17:04Speaker 01

anything that's in plastic is just leaching in there, it's just poison, man. You don't want to be drinking out of plastic bottles, man.

• 1:17:10Theo Von?

Yeah, that's what I think about a lot of times, especially now with people talking about all the bad stuff that's in our food and our water, it's become such like a, you know, such a talking point right now. It's, yeah, I thought a lot about how do you find water that isn't because most of the water is in plastic. And even if you look up like, what's the best water that doesn't have plastics in it, you know, they won't even really tell you. It's all these like kind of gimmick videos that lead you to buy certain things, usually to buy water purifiers and stuff.

• 1:17:34Speaker 01

Yeah. But I mean, the idea is just to go, so now we kind of changed it. Now that they are making those, we made a circular system. So we're now mononalo powered by Boomerang and it's actually, it's pretty cool, man. Like, the idea is to be in Starting with Hawaii mainly is to be like in hospitality. So you're in hotels, hospitals, schools where you imagine just going to your room and you got a crate, like a milk crate. And there's all your water in there and you drink it and you put it back. And then down in the basement is a machine. It's a circular system. It sterilizes it. It fills it with your natural local water source and puts some minerals back into it and cleans it and makes it so it's fresh water. It's not packaged up. It's there's no emissions. It's not sitting

• 1:18:18Speaker 01

in some crate in some warehouse stagnant dead water. It's fresh water always. And if there was a COVID or any of that, each hotel would still operate. The water still operates, right? So you can still have fresh water and it's just bottled up. Thinking of it as like you go into a restaurant, you eat with their plates and their fork and you're done. You leave. You come back. You're gonna use. You're not gonna take shit home. You just it's just a container for it. And so it's constantly reusable and recyclable. So you're cutting out waste. Now the idea is just to cut waste. So because even when you're having the aluminum bottles, you still got to recycle those. And so it's just the idea is just to either if you're not carrying your own stuff, it's pretty cool that you can go to a hotel and you know that it's it's there's not only are you not doing waste, it's getting recycled.

• 1:19:03Speaker 01

  So it's a full circular.

• 1:19:04Theo Von?

  That's incredible, man.

• 1:19:05Speaker 01

Just to kind of get rid of the single. I mean, just to call it shit down because it's just absolutely ridiculous.

• 1:19:09Theo Von?

Yeah, when you think about it.

• 1:19:10Speaker 01

The idea of like taking shitty water, putting it in plastic bottles, shipping it to a place like Hawaii, which has the best water in the world. We drink it and then the shit ends up in our ocean or a landfill. So it's the dumbest thing in the world. I'm gonna try to do that in Hawaii first. So I mean, obviously, we're self-contained planet, island, earth. We didn't need anyone. We can we were self-contained at one time. So if we can just do that with all our tourism and people come from all over the world, get married, and they get to see what they're doing in each hotel. So we have four C, all different hotels, four seasons and twin fin, all these different places where it'll have their it'll have their label on it. So it's it's still all there. So their advertising's for them. It's just we're trying to stop the waste.

• 1:19:52Theo Von?

Yeah, I love that. Yeah, dude, when I even think about just how many bottles I like, I probably drink seven bottles of water a day. So that's seven empty bottles. Like that's just me. That's ridiculous.

• 1:20:01Speaker 01

Oh bro, it's just, it's the most archaic thing that we're drinking out of fucking plastic bottles. But I mean, so we're doing it in a business side and eventually we'll try to get it where, you know, we'll have depots for it. But I mean, the idea is to get people doing, because in every school, kids can be doing this.

• 1:20:15Theo Von?

I like the idea too, that you can have your thing at home that you could just, that would then be able to refill it. I think, I think that's pretty novel.

• 1:20:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:20:23Speaker 01

Thanks buddy. It's, yeah, it's mononano powered by Boomerang. You can check it out. And that's, that's the goal is to, you know, just another thing to try to fix in a very broken world. And we don't need that pollution in our, in our oceans.

• 1:20:36Theo Von?

  Aquaman, you heard it.

• 1:20:38Speaker 01

  You heard it, man.

• 1:20:39Theo Von?

Have you ever been a lifeguard or not?

• 1:20:40Speaker 01

Yeah, that's why my whole family are watermen. Yeah, they're all lifeguards. Yeah. I went to, I went to junior lifeguards my whole life when I was growing up.

• 1:20:47Theo Von?

Dang, that's like, I wish I could be a lifeguard when I was young.

• 1:20:51Speaker 01

It's pretty cool when you save someone's life. I've saved a person's life before.

• 1:20:53Theo Von?

  You did?

• 1:20:54Speaker 01

In the ocean, yeah. And it's, it's, it's, it's, when you do junior lifeguards, it's really cool to, to really take your time, think, slow down. I'm sure it's probably like a firefighter. Like I'd panic in a fire, but I think if I saw so many of them in my practice, you know, most people go, oh shit. And then they, they freak out, whereas the natural calm come, kind of comes over you and you just like assess the whole situation. So you can both get out alive. You understand the rip, you understand what the ocean's doing.

• 1:21:17Theo Von?

And you had to save somebody?

• 1:21:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:19Theo Von?

  Was that in Hawaii?

• 1:21:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:20Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 1:21:21Speaker 01

But I mean, it's just the, I'm, like I said, I've been many times like drowned. I'm like, it can, you get cut, you get caught in a rip.

• 1:21:28Theo Von?

  Yes.

• 1:21:28Speaker 01

You, it's taking you out. You're not going to beat the ocean. And you can literally be, I mean, I've been at Pipeline, a leash snapped, and I'm literally eight feet from the shore, but it's like a river going by and you're swimming, trying to get in like it's eight feet and you're just getting burned out.

• 1:21:46Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:46Speaker 01

And you're like, there are cameras everywhere. There are people right there. I could yell for help and I look like an idiot. I'm going to drown in eight feet of water.

• 1:21:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:53Speaker 01

And it, the current's so, it's just, the, the undertow's just pulling your feet out and it's going to exhaust you. And it generally has got to go with it. It's going to take you out to sea and they'll dump you back in. But that's the, everyone drowns like that. It's just, you gotta watch out for the rips. So go jump it into the fucking ocean. And then if you see a sign, don't go in. That's why, I mean, don't be stupid.

• 1:22:14Theo Von?

You're like the Yogi Bear of the ocean, kind of.

• 1:22:18Theo Von?

  Remember him?

• 1:22:19Speaker 01

Oh, I do. You put out those fires, kid.

• 1:22:21Theo Von?

  Yeah, dude, put them out.

• 1:22:22Speaker 01

  You know what I'm saying?

• 1:22:23Theo Von?

I know, he was so adamant.

• 1:22:24Speaker 01

He was talking to me the other day. I built a fire and I was like, it's, ah, everything's green around here.

• 1:22:28Theo Von?

  What, Yogi was?

• 1:22:29Speaker 01

Yeah, in my head, because you guys were psychos. But I was like, listen, I could dump out.

• 1:22:34Theo Von?

Oh, Smokey the bear, dude. Sorry. Who did I say? Who's Yogi Bear?

• 1:22:40Speaker 01

  Yogi Bear is. Picky bastard.

• 1:22:43Theo Von?

Dude, he's starting the fires then.

• 1:22:48Theo Von?

God, he's probably on suboxone or whatever by now. Oh, yeah, he's not doing well. I think he was a stepdad too. You can tell by his outfit. You can tell by that outfit. He was definitely trying to meet a lady that already had kids, probably too.

• 1:23:03Speaker 01

Not like the Bernstein bear where he was locked in.

• 1:23:05Theo Von?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:23:06Speaker 01

He was just a dumb dad.

• 1:23:07Theo Von?

That guy was a family man, yeah.

• 1:23:08Speaker 01

  He was, he was.

• 1:23:09Theo Von?

Yeah, Bernstein was a family man.

• 1:23:10Speaker 01

  I loved me some Bernstein.

• 1:23:11Theo Von?

  God, they were good.

• 1:23:13Speaker 01

Especially like the fall issues always. I always got snuggled down when I read those ones.

• 1:23:16Theo Von?

And the scary one, remember those, that one scary book, one of them, there was a fire, whatever, and people were like, no. No fires in the Bernstein bears. And people flipped out and shit.

• 1:23:25Speaker 01

  Oh, really?

• 1:23:26Theo Von?

Yeah, dude, people just cannot handle real shit. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Was there ever, was there, was there a time in a movie where you were training for something and it was like one of the toughest things you ever had to actually train for? Or does it never go that far with training?

• 1:23:40Speaker 01

  Yeah, I mean, training for.

• 1:23:46Speaker 01

Training for Aquaman was pretty, was pretty challenging.

• 1:23:52Speaker 01

I'd have to say maybe the.

• 1:23:56Speaker 01

Yeah, I'd say probably Aquaman's probably the hardest I've ever had to train. I'm not a very like, I'm not like a gym rat. I just like to do things, rock climbing, you know, go surfing and things like that. But actually like get, you do that for a role, necessarily like.

• 1:24:09Theo Von?

You're not in there getting pumped every day like a maniac or taking sarms or whatever.

• 1:24:13Speaker 01

I just want to do the things I love to do.

• 1:24:14Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, but I'm, yeah.

• 1:24:15Theo Von?

You're not like some supps monkey that's over there at GNC every day or something? Supplements guy.

• 1:24:20Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't even do like shakes.

• 1:24:22Theo Von?

  Creatine, all that, oh, yeah.

• 1:24:23Speaker 01

Nah, I like to eat food.

• 1:24:25Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 1:24:26Speaker 01

  I like to eat.

• 1:24:27Theo Von?

  Yeah.

  Hawaiian.

• 1:24:28Theo Von?

Dude, yeah, you gotta get fat when you get older.

• 1:24:30Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm definitely going that way.

• 1:24:32Theo Von?

Hell, yeah. I can't wait to get fat, dude.

• 1:24:35Speaker 01

I'm trying not to, baby, but.

• 1:24:36Theo Von?

Soon as I get married, I'm getting fat. And then I'm getting divorced, too.

• 1:24:44Theo Von?

I can't wait to get divorced.

• 1:24:47Theo Von?

What else? So people should go see The Wrecking Crew. It's a great film. It's fun. It's

• 1:24:50Speaker 01

Yeah, it's good. Actually, it's feel good. You get to go to Hawaii. You know, if you can't make it there, put on The Wrecking Crew.

• 1:24:56Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:57Speaker 01

Let me and Dave take care of you. Yeah.

• 1:24:59Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:00Speaker 01

Work out some trauma in your family.

• 1:25:01Theo Von?

Open up a can of Dole pineapple for your lady and put on The Wrecking Crew.

• 1:25:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:25:06Theo Von?

  It's almost the same thing.

• 1:25:07Speaker 01

  Some shaved coconut.

• 1:25:08Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:09Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Some mounds.

• 1:25:11Theo Von?

  Oh, dude.

• 1:25:12Speaker 01

Bust out a couple of those.

• 1:25:13Theo Von?

My dad used to give us mounds sometimes when we were good.

• 1:25:17Speaker 01

  Not a lot then, huh?

• 1:25:19Theo Von?

Not a lot. Not a lot of mounds.

• 1:25:25Theo Von?

Yeah, dude. Thanks so much for taking time. I know you had a long day, man. I know it's like kind of a pain in the ass and uh

• 1:25:29Speaker 01

It's not, man. I don't do podcasts that much because I always get in trouble. So you're my second and it was wonderful. And dude, I'm just, it's awesome to meet you, man.

• 1:25:37Theo Von?

Yeah, it's a pleasure, man. Thanks for all the awesome entertainment and um yeah, thanks for just sitting and sharing some of your experiences and story with me.

• 1:25:44Speaker 01

You know, there's one thing too. You know, the thing that you have with uh oh my goodness, David Spade.

• 1:25:51Speaker 01

When we were at the 50's SNL.

• 1:25:53Theo Von?

  He was there.

• 1:25:53Speaker 01

Yeah. So I saw him when we were there. My daughter is like a massive, massive fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. So Andy Samberg's like her dude she loves the most. So I saw him about last person I'm leaving. I see him and I go, dude, my daughter loves you. Can I please get a picture with you? And I send the video to my daughter. And I said, hey, listen, if there's anything, I'd love to do something with you. About three weeks later, he pitches this story in Hawaii. It's amazing. I laughed my ass off. We instantly saw it. I'm going in two weeks to go shoot it in Hawaii.

• 1:26:26Theo Von?

  No way with David Spade?

• 1:26:27Speaker 01

Fucking year later. No, with with Samberg, but yeah. But I'm just saying it's the same thing where you've just like minded friends.

• 1:26:33Theo Von?

  You were saying.

• 1:26:34Speaker 01

Yeah, just friends and buddies meet in the comedy. Like I've never met him before. Just through my daughter. But you see something and you're like, dude.

• 1:26:40Theo Von?

  And you make a friend.

• 1:26:41Speaker 01

But like I'm saying, you got anything in there and you want to, you know, you see me, you see, you're like, oh dude, Momo would be there. Oh my gosh.

• 1:26:48Theo Von?

I'm gonna think of something good.

• 1:26:49Speaker 01

It'd be fun to be in it, you know what I mean?

• 1:26:50Theo Von?

I'm gonna think of something good. You're Paul Bunyan?

• 1:26:55Speaker 01

I could be the Blue Ox, bro. You could be Paul Bunyan.

• 1:26:57Theo Von?

  I don't know.

• 1:26:58Speaker 01

  Babe.

• 1:26:59Theo Von?

Yeah, you'll be Babe the Blue Ox then. And we gotta find somebody to be Paul Bunyan. I'm gonna be the brother that's on methadone. But we'll figure it out.

• 1:27:08Speaker 01

  We'll figure it out, homie.

• 1:27:09Theo Von?

Jason Momoa, thanks so much, man. Go see the Wrecking Crew, guys.

• 1:27:39Speaker 03
