• 1:02Drew Afualo?

Do you think you would survive in a, in like a apocalypse situation?

• 1:05Speaker 03

No, no, no, I wear glasses. There's no survival.

• 1:09Drew Afualo?

It's not in the cards for glasses wearers.

• 1:10Speaker 03

No, no, no, I'm an hour. I kiss Gab. Let's just hold each other and wait for the dogs to eat us.

• 1:21Drew Afualo?

Hey, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of The Comment Section Show, starring me, your fave, everybody knows me, who cares about me. Onto the guests. Today, we have the iconic, the hilarious, the unbelievably talented Robby Hoffman.

• 1:36Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 1:36Drew Afualo?

  Welcome to the show.

• 1:39Speaker 03

You know what? I actually appreciate that you were nine minutes late now, because it fits your personality.

• 1:44Drew Afualo?

Oh, thank you. I appreciate that.

• 1:45Speaker 03

For some reason, if it was, if I thought it was this guy Drew, which is what I thought this podcast was.

• 1:50Drew Afualo?

  With a man.

• 1:50Speaker 03

They said you're going on a podcast with Drew. Drew, I assume, I guess this Drew Barrymore?

• 1:54Drew Afualo?

  Yes, of course.

• 1:56Speaker 03

I don't know why my first thing is to think Drew.

• 1:59Drew Afualo?

Was a man, you should work on that.

• 2:01Speaker 03

Right, it's because I think the first Drew I knew was a boy in school whose name was Drew. He was very hot, I never talked to him.

• 2:07Drew Afualo?

And what if that's me? Then what?

• 2:09Speaker 03

What do you mean? But if it was you, yeah, if you were the dude Drew and you're late, I'm going, this fucker thinks I have nothing better to do than wait for his ass on his shit. Because I was telling them, it's like showing up to somebody's house when they're not even there yet.

• 2:23Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 2:24Speaker 03

It's like, I'm like, in this empty, I'm like, it's like an ET feeling, like you're in somebody's house, they're not even home, yeah, and they're like, make yourself comfortable, it's like, I'm not comfortable.

• 2:33Drew Afualo?

It's like crime scene, can't touch anything, need gloves.

• 2:35Speaker 03

Yeah, it's like you want to be in somebody's house when they're in the house.

• 2:38Drew Afualo?

• 3:09Speaker 03

No, no, no, now it checks out because you remind me of my little sister a little bit.

• 3:12Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 3:13Speaker 03

  And to her, time is...

• 3:17Speaker 03

  Time's an idea.

• 3:18Drew Afualo?

  It's a construct.

• 3:19Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:19Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's really what we make it, I would say. I think you were, well, earlier before we started recording, when you were running a 23andMe on my ancestry.

• 3:28Speaker 03

  Right.

• 3:28Drew Afualo?

And we were talking about that in depth. I was gonna add to that, that someone, people are notoriously late for everything.

• 3:34Speaker 03

You know what? That makes sense.

• 3:37Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 3:38Speaker 03

I'm happy that I met you and it makes sense.

• 3:41Drew Afualo?

  All the pieces are connecting.

• 3:42Speaker 03

Because if you listen to the first 10, I'm irate. I mean, they don't know what to do with me. And now that everything, you have answers, it's like, oh, orders restored.

• 3:51Drew Afualo?

  Yes, of course.

• 3:51Speaker 03

This just checks out, you show up with your mom, your sister.

• 3:54Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 3:55Speaker 03

  97 people here.

• 3:56Drew Afualo?

And all lesbians, all most of them.

• 3:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:59Drew Afualo?

Because most of them are gay.

• 4:01Speaker 03

  It's terrible.

• 4:02Drew Afualo?

It's okay, because you said it's terrible.

• 4:04Speaker 03

One of the worst things to happen to me in my life.

• 4:07Drew Afualo?

Well, I'm excited to have you here. Honored to have you as a part of the show.

• 4:11Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 4:11Drew Afualo?

And I would love to know how you got into stand. I'm a huge fan of your stand up personally. I knew you weren't a boy. That is imperative for you to know. I knew you weren't a boy.

• 4:20Speaker 03

  That's fantastic.

• 4:21Drew Afualo?

You also have boy name like me.

• 4:23Speaker 03

Yes, exactly. Exactly. Exactly. No, I do do stand up. I'm happy you're a fan.

• 4:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 4:33Speaker 03

When did I? What was the question? How I got into it?

• 4:36Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I would like to know how you got into it.

• 4:37Speaker 03

Um, I just, as soon as I heard about it.

• 4:40Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 4:41Speaker 03

  I did it.

• 4:42Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 4:42Speaker 03

So I just, I don't know. I kinda didn't. You know what it is? Once I saw a movie about rock climbing. Okay, Free Solo with this guy Alex Honnold. He climbs the half dome in Yosemite. He climbs, what's it called that he climbs? El Capitan? The dykes know, yeah.

• 5:00Speaker 03

Okay, so, so, so he climbs this El Capitan. Now, I never heard of climbing. I didn't know people who did rock climb, like, as, nobody I knew climbed. And, you know, I climbed trees and things and buildings, you know, fire escapes when I was a kid, but, but climbing as like an activity, we didn't have a climbing gym or anything like that.

• 5:19Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 5:19Speaker 03

But that movie, I heard of climbing and I started climbing.

• 5:22Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 5:23Speaker 03

I started going to a climbing gym, maybe a couple of times a week. And I really just took to it. I just, never took to exercise, really. I never felt, I never liked exercise. And, um, or a sport. I was never good at athletics. In high school, I was always like stuck in an outfield. I couldn't see the ball if it's coming, if it's not. I had just my mitt up, you know, just praying like that gym class would be over soon, you know? And, um, that's the same with stand up. As soon as I heard of it, I kinda thought like, oh, I could. I could do that, or I should do that. Um, I just told my friends and they were like, yeah,

• 6:06Speaker 03

like, they didn't really know about it either. And

• 6:09Drew Afualo?

Still supported you, though. That's nice.

• 6:10Speaker 03

Yeah, they were like, that actually sounds like a fit. I was like, you know, and they're like, yeah, you're funny and let's do it. And I just started doing it. So I started discovering stand-up as I started stand-up. So

• 6:20Drew Afualo?

  Okay, love.

• 6:20Speaker 03

That was a very, um, I just became in love with it. I was doing it. I was, you know, I was like figuring out that like people who had shows were stand-ups, like

• 6:30Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 6:30Speaker 03

Seinfeld had a show, but he was a stand-up. Ellen had a show, a daytime show, but she was a stand-up. Like, all these famous people.

• 6:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 6:39Speaker 03

You know, and I was going back and watching their stand-up. And as I was starting it, like, I was doing it for like a year and then I'm like, oh, my God, those people do stand-up.

• 6:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 6:52Speaker 03

And I also, you know, then I went back and I could watch Chris Rock for the first time, Eddie Murphy. I was just enjoying falling in love with stand-up as I was doing it. But I had no preconceived notions. I just went out as me. And, um,

• 7:09Drew Afualo?

And thank God it worked out.

• 7:10Speaker 03

It worked out. Yeah. I also had no pressure with it because I had a great accounting job.

• 7:14Drew Afualo?

  Oh, nice.

• 7:15Speaker 03

So I had a job where I was getting paid every two weeks, which was my priority.

• 7:20Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 7:20Speaker 03

It was very, uh, it was my first job that I had direct deposit and I really loved that.

• 7:26Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, big.

• 7:26Speaker 03

And so, yeah, I was like, let's say I do stand-up, which I didn't know about. And it, okay, and I'll give it six months. I get this great job that gave me a laptop for keeps. It's pretty easy and it's like I do, I get paid every two weeks.

• 7:41Drew Afualo?

  That's nice.

• 7:42Speaker 03

So I was like, and then it ended up going good that I left that job, but I didn't know. My sign?

• 7:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:49Speaker 03

  I'm, uh, Sagittarius.

• 7:51Drew Afualo?

Okay. Do you know your big three?

• 7:54Speaker 03

Gabby, my wife would know this. I know that I'm too Sagittarius.

• 7:57Drew Afualo?

Okay. Moon and rising are the other two. If that jogs any memories.

• 8:01Speaker 03

  We could call her.

• 8:02Drew Afualo?

  It's up to you.

• 8:05Drew Afualo?

If you'd like to call her, you're more than welcome to. I got nothing better to do.

• 8:09Speaker 03

Oh, she might be at her appointment. Maybe she'll pick up. Let me see.

• 8:15Drew Afualo?

  I love that she knows.

• 8:16Speaker 03

  She loves all this stuff.

• 8:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, me too.

• 8:23Speaker 03

No, she's in, she's in her vitamin, she's in her vitamin shot. We'll call her after, but yeah, I know I'm sad Sherri, sad Sherri. What, um, I know the other one, I forget.

• 8:37Drew Afualo?

  For the big three?

• 8:39Speaker 03

What is Eminem's sign? She said this. No, I'm not making this up.

• 8:44Drew Afualo?

  I really have no clue.

• 8:45Speaker 03

Is it Taurus or Libra or something?

• 8:47Drew Afualo?

I can look it up, let me see.

• 8:49Speaker 03

It's, okay, I think it's Libra than the other one.

• 8:51Drew Afualo?

  Okay, so you have another.

• 8:52Speaker 03

Because when she told me my thing and she goes, you have a touch of, because they, she did a thing and it puts all the people that you are and one of them. And I said, you know what? Fine. There's been worse, I, I actually, I like him quite a bit. I, I didn't consider that an insult at all.

• 9:08Drew Afualo?

That's true. That's a good one. Mine's Beyonce, like, for someone that I know.

• 9:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:13Drew Afualo?

A little bit better than yours, but.

• 9:14Speaker 03

Yeah, no, it's a pretty good one.

• 9:15Drew Afualo?

  It's not a competition, but.

• 9:17Speaker 03

No, I put them at the same level.

• 9:20Drew Afualo?

Too. I, I asked your sign.

• 9:21Speaker 03

I think it goes Beyonce, Eminem. I think people, that's, that's.

• 9:24Drew Afualo?

Most people, I'd say, yeah, would fall in that range. I, I was asking what your sign was because I was curious if you cold plunge things like that a lot. You just take them on and just try them? Like comedy? You just got into stand-up?

• 9:35Speaker 03

That's it. Yeah, I just decided to do it, but again, I never heard of it. Um, and then, but over the, like, over the year, I started realizing that, like, you know, Ellen was on every day those times, so I was like,

• 9:49Speaker 03

like, I realized she's, you know, there was so many stand-ups. Rosie was a stand-up, like, everyone comedically kind of started in stand-up, so it didn't seem weird to me. I was like, oh, it is a, like, it seemed like a random thing, stand-up, but then it was like, oh, a real kind of, like, thing, like, it was its own art, but I never went to stand-up or knew really much about it. Um, I guess some of my brothers and sisters did. My older sister, I remember she, when I, she always liked stand-up.

• 10:16Drew Afualo?

  Oh, nice.

• 10:17Speaker 03

But, um, I'd never gone to a show or really known what the hell she was doing.

• 10:22Drew Afualo?

Just sounded like she enjoyed it.

• 10:23Speaker 03

Yeah, as soon as I was like, old enough and I heard about it, I'd like, I was like, oh, they're just up there taking, telling jokes or stuff. I don't know, it just, it just resonated.

• 10:32Drew Afualo?

Did you like Attention as a child?

• 10:34Speaker 03

Yeah, I think I think I always have.

• 10:37Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 10:38Speaker 03

But it's not even attention. I just, whether I like it or not, I've always been big.

• 10:42Drew Afualo?

  Big?

• 10:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:43Drew Afualo?

Like energy wise? I I I relate to that.

• 10:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:47Drew Afualo?

That's true. Yeah, I think you have to like attention to some extent to do this. Like, there's no way you could hate it and still do this, I'd say.

• 10:54Speaker 03

Right, I I, yeah, and I think it's different kinds of attention, like. I like the attention, I guess, but I think my my biggest motive is like I like doing and.

• 11:05Drew Afualo?

  Just trying new things.

• 11:06Speaker 03

Yeah, I just like doing it, like, is the biggest thing.

• 11:09Drew Afualo?

That's cool. That's normally the hardest thing for people to do is to just try. Sounds like you just be trying things.

• 11:15Speaker 03

I haven't tried a lot of things. I mean, for exercise, I've tried climbing. And and for creative, you know, I do writing and stand up and now acting, but it's all been a slow.

• 11:27Drew Afualo?

  Discovery?

• 11:28Speaker 03

Yeah, a slow growth, you know, things I don't like doing, I don't do, you know, I don't do videos and stuff like that.

• 11:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's fair.

• 11:35Speaker 03

But I know friends who make a tremendous amount of money doing that and they're good at it and they like doing it. I'm not learning to edit. I don't care. I don't want to. If somebody wants to. You know, some people find me through TikTok. I'm not on TikTok, but if I liked doing that, if I thought, oh, I have an idea for a little video and I want to do it. I would do it. I just never liked doing that. I only really do what I like.

• 11:57Drew Afualo?

  That's honestly, I respect it.

• 11:59Speaker 03

Which is amazing that I can make a living doing that, because that's something I never even thought of anything I'm doing as a job or as anything.

• 12:05Drew Afualo?

Well, if I, circling back to climbing, are you still climbing?

• 12:08Speaker 03

No, I stopped climbing maybe, so I did climbing for about four years. Now I'm out of exercise again. I kept, I think I'm I'm too. I can't be falling off a wall or anything and hurting, like, I I I had this huge bruise on my ankle, they call the contusion, and then. I almost like snap my, like, I'm not.

• 12:29Drew Afualo?

  You're fragile.

• 12:30Speaker 03

Because I'm very like into climbing, but I can't, I'm I might not make the jump.

• 12:34Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 12:34Speaker 03

Like, I'll do it, and then I'm just like, oh, I'm in the hospital. You know, so I actually like don't think. Yeah, I I have to find something else. I do ex, I don't.

• 12:45Drew Afualo?

  I do, yeah, pretty.

• 12:46Speaker 03

  What do you do?

• 12:46Drew Afualo?

  I normally like weight lift.

• 12:48Speaker 03

I do have to really do weights. When I am exercising.

• 12:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 12:52Speaker 03

It's it's weights. I'm thinking of buying some weights for home, but I always feel like if I do that, they're gonna sit there.

• 13:00Drew Afualo?

They're just to make you feel good.

• 13:01Speaker 03

Like I already know it's a waste of money in the corner that I would look at every morning. Like, oh, I don't use them. There they are, you know? Ninety dollars, down the drain. Cause you know I'm gonna buy the good ones too. You know I'm gonna want like, oh, if I buy the nice ones, I'm gonna use them. I won't.

• 13:19Drew Afualo?

That's real, honestly. I have a lot of, I have workout equipment at home. I don't, I don't really use, honestly. I feel like I need the responsibility of having to go. Otherwise, I won't do it. Cause I do really think when people are like, the gym is my therapy. I think that's weird and a lie. To be honest. I hate it.

• 13:35Speaker 03

Like when I've done it, like Gabby and I became members and we haven't used it in a long time. But we did the thing where we joined Equinox, like their two for one or whatever it was.

• 13:44Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 13:45Speaker 03

And it was good for three, four months.

• 13:48Speaker 03

I mean Gabby came once with me. I was doing my weight regimen and a little bit of treadmill and she came for, they have Pilates classes.

• 13:55Drew Afualo?

  Oh, nice.

• 13:56Speaker 03

But I just got there, okay? And I'm still like doing my big stretches and she comes to me, she was gonna do Pilates and I was gonna do weights and we would meet on the treadmills. She comes to me, two seconds in, she's like, they don't have the machine. I was like, what machine? And she was like, for Pilates, they don't have the reformer. I'm leaving. I'm like, well, well, what's the Pilates class? And she goes, it's Pilates on the floor. I'm not doing Pilates on the floor. And I'm like, but you're already here, like just do. And she goes, no, I'm gonna get a smoothie and go home. And like that was, her, like, if it's not exact, like she won't, so.

• 14:31Drew Afualo?

Oh damn, did you go home early too?

• 14:33Speaker 03

No, I did my thing. I'm like, babe, I'm here. It's just insane. I mean, once I'm there, it's a big commitment to get there, but once I'm there, and I take a long time though, like, I don't know how people are like in and out of the gym. Like to me, it's a three hour ordeal. To make sure I have the right positioning.

• 14:50Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 14:50Speaker 03

I give it a minute, then I go again. Then I give it a minute. Like, I don't know how people are in and out.

• 14:55Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I get that.

• 14:56Speaker 03

Then I'm showering, then I'm doing their steam room or their sauna, like to dip in, like I just, it is a big commitment.

• 15:04Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that is true. When I, my fiance is like a certified personal trainer too.

• 15:09Speaker 03

  Oh, that's fantastic.

• 15:10Drew Afualo?

He does make my workouts for me, but we never work out together. Cause I've found that the one time I was like, well, why don't you just train me? And then he tried to tell me what to do. I was like, well, don't tell me what to do.

• 15:20Speaker 03

  No, no, no, no, no.

• 15:21Drew Afualo?

That's not gonna work for me.

• 15:22Speaker 03

No, no, no. Are you freezing?

• 15:24Drew Afualo?

  No. I run really hot.

• 15:29Drew Afualo?

Well, you are a little porcelain doll, so I apologize about that.

• 15:32Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 15:32Drew Afualo?

Would you like a jacket or a blanket or anything?

• 15:36Speaker 03

  No.

• 15:38Drew Afualo?

Yeah, we might have a throw blanket around here somewhere.

• 15:40Speaker 03

  No, no.

• 15:40Drew Afualo?

But it may be on those spooky porn sets next door, so.

• 15:43Speaker 03

Yeah, and I don't want it somewhat like a dusty. You know?

• 15:48Drew Afualo?

Do you have like any specific pet peeves?

• 15:52Speaker 03

  No.

• 15:52Drew Afualo?

Like things that irritate you, really?

• 15:54Speaker 03

Not specific. A lot of things bother me. Ask me something, I'll tell you if I like it or not.

• 15:58Drew Afualo?

Oh, like anything specific? I could tell you something of mine that's pretty niche that I don't like.

• 16:02Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 16:02Drew Afualo?

When people sneeze more than twice, really annoys the fuck out of me.

• 16:06Speaker 03

  Right.

• 16:06Drew Afualo?

Like after the second one, I'm like, you're done. That's it.

• 16:09Speaker 03

You know what? It brings me back my, uh, best friend, uh, Shanee. She, since kid. When she sneezes, it's eight in a row, like, and it would be in class and it would be so funny, cause I'm like, well, she's, there's nothing you could do. She's gonna be sneezing for another two minutes. And it, she doesn't, when she sneezes.

• 16:27Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 16:27Speaker 03

It's a lot in a row. No, that doesn't bother me. What's another thing?

• 16:31Drew Afualo?

Hmm, trying to think. Slow walkers?

• 16:34Speaker 03

  Terrible.

• 16:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, hate them. Are you a fast walker?

• 16:37Speaker 03

I am, but you know what? It depends. If I wanna walk slow. I don't like somebody up my ass, I'll stop and let them pass. I don't like to hear steps, like, okay, so just pass me. And then when I'm going fast and there's like foot traffic, like in New York, in a, in a, in a density.

• 16:54Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:55Speaker 03

I'm like, come on, guys, we're in New York, one foot in front of the other, let's go.

• 16:58Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 16:58Speaker 03

  So, you know.

• 16:59Drew Afualo?

You just adapt based off where you're at?

• 17:01Speaker 03

Yeah. Whatever I want is what I want to be happening. If I wanna be walking slow, that's what I want. If I wanna be walking fast, that's what I wanna do.

• 17:07Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it seems like that's how you run your whole life.

• 17:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:10Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, pretty much.

• 17:11Speaker 03

  Here she is.

• 17:12Drew Afualo?

  Oh, perfect.

• 17:15Speaker 03

  Babe?

• 17:16Speaker 04

  Yeller?

• 17:17Speaker 03

Yeller? One quick question. What is my sign, the full sign? I need it for the podcast.

• 17:24Speaker 04

You're a Sagittarius sun, a Sagittarius rising, and a Libra moon.

• 17:30Speaker 03

See, I guessed it because of the M and M. Okay, I love you. Thank you, baby.

• 17:34Speaker 04

  Okay, love you too.

• 17:35Speaker 03

  Bye.

• 17:36Drew Afualo?

  You were right.

• 17:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah. I love Libras. Libras are great.

• 17:40Speaker 03

  But I'm a Sag.

• 17:41Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you're a Sag. I'm saying Libra moon.

• 17:43Speaker 03

Is that what she said? Yeah.

• 17:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, Libra moon.

• 17:45Speaker 03

So which, if I'm Sag, Sag, Libra, what's the one that I'm like? How do they differentiate?

• 17:50Drew Afualo?

The sun is like, is like who you are at your core. I believe, again, this is my very loose interpretation of it. Moon is like what rules your emotions, and then rising is what you present and project to others. So what other people perceive about you. So you're, you're rising and your sun match, which mean you're a pretty obvious Sagittarius, I would say. And Libras are very, I think, I forget the sign for Libra. I want to say it's a scale, but they're like, I can't remember. But they're like very even keeled, like in emotion and stuff.

• 18:17Speaker 03

I don't know that I'm even keeled. Maybe emotionally, yeah.

• 18:20Drew Afualo?

  You seem like you are.

• 18:21Speaker 03

Yeah, emotion. I mean, I'm a big person, so even keeled. But yeah, I just, you know, and I'm very good at an emergency.

• 18:29Drew Afualo?

  You're reliable in an emergency?

• 18:30Speaker 03

It's small things. Like, I don't like to respond to an email, or, you know, or like, if somebody saw that I saw their message, or things like that bother me.

• 18:39Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 18:40Speaker 03

But in an emergency, like Gabby says, like when we evacuated for the fires, like, I was like, okay, like, she was like, woke me up, she smelled, she's like, should we go? I go, yeah. She goes, I can't believe you just got up. You didn't, you started packing the car, like.

• 18:53Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:53Speaker 03

I think it's because I grew up so bad in an urgent emergency state all the time, that I'm actually comfortable, fine, we're moving again, let's go. It's the small things that, um.

• 19:06Drew Afualo?

  Irritate you.

• 19:07Speaker 03

Yeah, that are harder for me than the big, like, I already assume that something disastrous is gonna happen.

• 19:13Drew Afualo?

  At all times.

• 19:14Speaker 03

You know, so like calamity, I'm like, oh yeah, this is inevitable. Like the house burning down, of course. I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. You know, and it didn't burn down in the end, but it's like, I'm always surprised when it's not, it doesn't end in climate.

• 19:29Drew Afualo?

You're staying ready at all times.

• 19:31Speaker 03

Yeah, I'm kinda like, well, what are you gonna do? We gotta go to Vegas. And then we got married. Like, well, what are you gonna do? You know?

• 19:38Drew Afualo?

Would you think you would survive in a, in like a apocalypse situation?

• 19:41Speaker 03

No, no, no, I wear glasses. There's no survival.

• 19:45Drew Afualo?

It's not in the cards for glasses wearers.

• 19:47Speaker 03

I'm an hour. I kiss Gab. Let's just hold each other and wait for the dogs to eat us. I just, I have, I have no um, ability to camp or...

• 19:58Drew Afualo?

Or even like desire to, really?

• 20:01Speaker 03

I do wanna go camping, cause I, I did it a couple times. Yeah, but I haven't gotten it together to go. And I don't have enough of the skill set to do it.

• 20:09Drew Afualo?

And you don't wanna be forcibly camping?

• 20:11Speaker 03

No, when somebody, when I'm with somebody, ideally, this is the camping. I wanna be invited to a camping trip.

• 20:18Speaker 03

Somebody knows what to do, how to do it, has the right gear, and I'm around the fire.

• 20:24Drew Afualo?

  Telling jokes.

• 20:26Speaker 03

Just enjoying, you know, maybe somebody's playing music, like that type of camping, like just, you know, some Brokeback shit.

• 20:32Drew Afualo?

Yeah, where you just show up?

• 20:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:34Drew Afualo?

All of the Brokeback shit, or just like the camping?

• 20:36Speaker 03

Well, you know, the Brokeback is, you know, yeah, I would take a lot of the...

• 20:39Drew Afualo?

We'll see where the wind takes us.

• 20:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:40Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you don't wanna assume either way.

• 20:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:42Drew Afualo?

I, I'm, I'm with you on the apocalypse stuff. I've said many times, like, I'm, I'm not, I'm cool not living through that. I'll just probably take myself out.

• 20:50Speaker 03

I mean, we're pretty much in an apocalypse.

• 20:53Drew Afualo?

At this point, yes, we are rapidly heading that way. We're currently in it and it's getting worse.

• 20:56Speaker 03

I think it's, it's the kind of thing that you don't, it is so normal.

• 21:01Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 21:02Speaker 03

Like, everything is normalized. Like, we're now living in times of like, well, what were, it's like when you hear about the Holocaust happening years ago, and I would ask my grandfather, like, what were you doing when all these? People were dying and he was, you know, selling meat and trying to make a meat business. He was a butcher and, you know.

• 21:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 21:23Speaker 03

And his life is just, and now we're doing that. We see what's going on in the Middle East and it's like, what really are we doing?

• 21:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I know.

• 21:31Speaker 03

We can talk about it, but we're still recording a pod. We're still like, it's such a, it's such a, you know, it's just-

• 21:38Drew Afualo?

It feels very Black Mirror, honestly.

• 21:39Speaker 03

Exactly. Like, everything is just kind of like, I don't think we can, we think that the apocalypse is coming, but I think we're in apocalyptic times.

• 21:49Drew Afualo?

I agree with you. It feels like, have you watched The Bear?

• 21:53Speaker 03

  I have a little bit.

• 21:54Drew Afualo?

Okay, well, there's like this clock they have in there that's counting down to something in the most recent season. That's how it feels right now to me.

• 22:00Speaker 03

  That's what I'm saying.

• 22:01Drew Afualo?

The world feels like I'm watching that clock and it's like, well, what am I gonna do? Not work? I guess I gotta work, cause I'm here in the kitchen.

• 22:06Speaker 03

That's what I'm saying. It's like, you know, or if you have a family and you have to go feed your kids, it's like, well, this mom's gotta go grocery. Like, there's really, we're at the mercy of like, you know, some serious empires.

• 22:20Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 22:20Speaker 03

It feels biblical and it also feels apocalyptic and it also feels like powerless and it's just like, I don't know. And then, yeah, I, it's just, and then AI, it's like, it is very strange. Yeah. So I think we're, we are through the apocalypse and to our credit, we are surviving.

• 22:42Drew Afualo?

That is true. That is true.

• 22:44Speaker 03

  To our credit.

• 22:45Drew Afualo?

Do you have a preferred ending? Like, if the world was gonna end-

• 22:48Speaker 03

  Christ, for sure. God forbid.

• 22:49Drew Afualo?

Apocalyptic ending I would choose, if I could have a choice, I would choose Planet of the Apes.

• 22:55Speaker 03

  That's horrifying.

• 22:56Drew Afualo?

  You think?

• 22:57Speaker 03

What, is there a war with the apes? I haven't seen Planet of the Apes.

• 23:00Drew Afualo?

Well, they're gonna win regardless and I just feel like they'd probably do a better job. Humans have done a real shit job.

• 23:04Speaker 03

I think I would take mass CO2 poisoning or something.

• 23:07Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 23:08Speaker 03

You know, like, like the whole world was, you know, the whole world was stuck in a car that was in a garage, turned on, and everybody just went to sleep.

• 23:18Drew Afualo?

That's, okay, you know what? That's actually a pretty good one.

• 23:20Speaker 03

Right? It's, you don't smell it. You have a small fatigue. You go, I'm looking at your sister the whole time. She's like, she's getting into it. She's like, you have a small fatigue.

• 23:31Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 23:33Speaker 03

  That's it.

• 23:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:34Speaker 03

No, I don't want anything warlike. I mean, we're in that, like, I can't imagine what.

• 23:39Drew Afualo?

That's true. I think I'm just leaning towards the monkeys, because I'm like, someone do something.

• 23:43Speaker 03

Are there enough monkeys for your thing?

• 23:45Drew Afualo?

In my, in my head, yes.

• 23:47Speaker 03

Oh, in your head, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 23:48Drew Afualo?

Like, I'm thinking they unionize the ones that are currently on Earth. And then just kind of form a coalition.

• 23:53Speaker 03

I think how it will happen now will be not only nuclear, but biochemical, more viruses.

• 23:59Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 24:00Speaker 03

  Bio warfare is here.

• 24:03Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I saw, I saw a meme once that said, like, I hate when older people are like, well, back in my day, I, you know, I was in the Vietnam War, and I'm like, okay, well, I'm gonna be in the next one, and they have laser beams now, so it's actually a lot worse for me.

• 24:16Speaker 03

Yeah, and it's just, it's, it's just, people are, it's, there's no guardrails on the planet, like, these powers, like, I was thinking like this, like, when I realized there's no guardrails, like, you know, is like, you know, Elon Musk had like a thirteenth kid with someone, right? And she thought she was gonna get a payout, like, oh, because she has this kid, like, he'll have to pay for the kid, but it's like, who's enforcing him to pay child support? No one. Like, the government's his friend, like, he was with Trump, like, so it's actually like, she could remain broke.

• 24:46Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 24:46Speaker 03

And, and the kid's father is, because he could just not pay, he could be fined, he'll never go to jail, he'll never pay the fine, he'll, there's no enforcing.

• 24:55Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 24:56Speaker 03

Powerful people anymore. There's no anything. They all.

• 25:00Drew Afualo?

  Fascism.

• 25:01Speaker 03

Yeah, like, to me, government feels like theatrics to distract, like, like, we're following that, but really, you know, they have to keep those, that, that play going.

• 25:12Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 25:13Speaker 03

Because actually, they're all, you know, it's the very rich against everyone else.

• 25:19Drew Afualo?

It's true. Yeah, a class warfare more than anything.

• 25:21Speaker 03

Yeah, and it's been that, and they've been exponentially increasing their power while decreasing ours.

• 25:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, and we're sitting here.

• 25:30Speaker 03

And that's it, that's all, you know, um, so I think we're doing the best we can to get through it.

• 25:35Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 25:36Speaker 03

Like, I think we are surviving a pot, like, people think it's gonna be the bunker. You might never even get to the bunker.

• 25:42Drew Afualo?

No, for real. And I also think too, that's another, and I said this once, like, a recession indicator to me is like, how beautiful the art is that's been coming out lately.

• 25:51Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 25:52Drew Afualo?

They like, that's like when art thrives, is when the world is tanking.

• 25:55Speaker 03

Wait, I was literally having this conversation that I think we're about to enter, like, a Renaissance type of period.

• 26:02Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I agree.

• 26:03Speaker 03

Um, especially with the threat of, of, AI, of people really just making, what they wanna make, yeah, because it's kind of like our last burst of we were here, we're here.

• 26:15Drew Afualo?

  Absolutely.

• 26:15Speaker 03

This is the human experience. Um, it reminds me of, um, my stepmom passed due to cancer, may she rest in peace. But one of her last days alive, she had a burst of energy, which is common.

• 26:30Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 26:30Speaker 03

And she suddenly wanted to go walk outside and do all the stuff and, and then she died shortly. It was kind of this last hurrah of, energy, and we might be in that.

• 26:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, well, I mean, at least it's beautiful.

• 26:45Speaker 03

Are you guys gonna have kids, you think, you and your fiance?

• 26:48Drew Afualo?

  Nope.

• 26:48Speaker 03

  No, that's the only...

• 26:49Drew Afualo?

It's been out, like, it's been off, off my table for a long time, but yeah.

• 26:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:53Drew Afualo?

We decided that pretty early on. Yeah, it's just not something we've ever personally been interested in, um, like, just for ourselves and then as a couple. Uh, but then now even more so, no. Cause I was talking about teachers recently, and I was saying how, selfless it is to be a teacher, especially now. It always has been, but especially now. Because of like, you know, the cuts to funding and obviously AI, ChatGPT, kids are iPad babies now, like, all of those things, being factored. I think teachers are just, on the front line right now, like, that's crazy, and I feel for them.

• 27:27Speaker 03

Yeah, I don't even think we need teachers, and like, we're, we're making... I don't know. Like, teachers are doing childcare.

• 27:36Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 27:37Speaker 03

  Mostly.

• 27:38Drew Afualo?

And I heard that teachers have like thirty to thirty-five kids now per class.

• 27:42Speaker 03

  Is that a lot?

• 27:43Drew Afualo?

  That feels like a lot.

• 27:44Speaker 03

Oh, okay. I have no clue, by the way. Shout out to teachers.

• 27:47Drew Afualo?

Well, when I was in school, it was maybe like twenty-five, max.

• 27:51Speaker 03

  Right.

• 27:51Drew Afualo?

Now it's like thirty-five, which is insane. That's so many people to keep an eye on.

• 27:56Speaker 03

It's, it's a lot. You know what? It's a lot. My mother had ten kids.

• 28:00Drew Afualo?

  Oh, damn.

• 28:01Speaker 03

So my class was like twice the size of my family. Which, so this is like...

• 28:06Drew Afualo?

So your concept of a lot of children is...

• 28:07Speaker 03

My concept of a lot is like, oh, thirty-five's a lot. It's a third of my family, but... You know, it would be a lot.

• 28:13Drew Afualo?

Where are you in the ten?

• 28:14Speaker 03

  I'm seventh.

• 28:15Drew Afualo?

Oh, okay. Towards the end, then. One of the babies.

• 28:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:18Drew Afualo?

How was it growing up with nine siblings?

• 28:21Speaker 03

  Horrible.

• 28:21Drew Afualo?

  Was that interesting? Horrible.

• 28:23Speaker 03

Um... It was horrible because we were poor. I think if we were like, sometimes we saw shows that had like a big...

• 29:09Speaker 03

House, or they were like, uh, you know... And, and those stories turned out way worse. Now it's much better.

• 29:17Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 29:17Speaker 03

But, um, you know, there was like seventeen kids and counting. There was like...

• 29:21Drew Afualo?

  Oh, yeah.

• 29:21Speaker 03

John and Kate plus eight. But they all had like houses that had like rooms and stuff. We just lived so tight and cramped and, you know, and didn't have that... You know, I think the poverty was the worst thing, but I think the family ended up being good. But it wa- it wa- it was tough because we were all teenagers that, you know, we're ten and twelve years. So at one point in my house, it's like, you know, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen. You know, my brothers are like teenagers, wrestling, you know?

• 29:51Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 29:51Speaker 03

Just horrible fights and just, um... But that said, a bunch of us are very close now and we got through it together, but it was...

• 30:01Speaker 03

Yeah, it felt horrible when I was a kid, but it also, I have a lot of great memories. So it's, it's like anything. There's, there's great and there's, you know, not so great.

• 30:12Drew Afualo?

  Where are you from?

• 30:13Speaker 03

Uh, I'm born in New York and I grew up in Montreal.

• 30:16Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 30:17Speaker 03

I started stand up in Toronto, so I'm half Canadian, half American. Well, I'm a dual. I'm a hundred percent both.

• 30:23Drew Afualo?

Yeah. Oh, that's good. That's cool. Every time someone says they're from Canada, I always reference my agent Alex, who's from Canada.

• 30:28Speaker 03

  Where are you from?

• 30:30Drew Afualo?

  She's from Vancouver.

• 30:31Speaker 03

My sister lives in Vancouver. Yeah. Vancouver is beautiful.

• 30:35Drew Afualo?

Every time I'm always like, I know she's from Canada.

• 30:38Speaker 03

Yeah, it's a very different part of Canada. There's no black people or Jews in Vancouver. Very creepy place, very quiet type of.

• 30:47Drew Afualo?

That's the only city I've been to in Canada is Vancouver.

• 30:49Speaker 03

Don't you notice it's like very?

• 30:51Drew Afualo?

  It's very clean.

• 30:52Speaker 03

It's very clean. There's no like loud laughing, like, like in the movie, there's no chatting. Like I'm so used to like, like Gavin and I are both chatters in the movie, we sit in the back. But like, there's no chatting, like for real.

• 31:06Drew Afualo?

  That's tea.

• 31:06Speaker 03

  Yeah, there's just no, it's just, yeah, it's a very, I don't know.

• 31:12Drew Afualo?

  Strange. It's like different energy.

• 31:13Speaker 03

Yeah, it's a different energy. It's not as much. I think cause Toronto is the most diverse city, I believe in the world, if not North America. Will you look up Toronto? Toronto's the most diverse city. And then I grew up super, yeah, like in a, you know, ethnic neighborhoods where we were all beyond loud.

• 31:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 31:34Speaker 03

You know, in a fun way.

• 31:36Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I agree.

• 31:37Speaker 03

But you know what I mean?

• 31:38Drew Afualo?

That is tea though. It is kinda quiet there. I also noticed everyone walks at like thirty miles per hour. I don't know why everyone walks so goddamn fast in Canada.

• 31:46Speaker 03

It's a yoga. It's a, it's like Lululemon's invented there. I'm not making this up. Isn't Lululemon invented there? So they really.

• 31:54Drew Afualo?

They love fast walking apparently. And the, also every restaurant, the music was way too loud.

• 32:00Speaker 03

  It's out of control.

• 32:01Drew Afualo?

Light was way too low. I felt like I was squinting and yelling in every restaurant I was in.

• 32:06Speaker 03

They gotta get it together. But the Chinese food there is amazing.

• 32:10Drew Afualo?

It was. Yeah, it is amazing. Yeah, you're right.

• 32:11Speaker 03

What, um, what did you hear about Toronto? What did you see there?

• 32:15Drew Afualo?

  What did you find?

• 32:17Speaker 05

Toronto is widely recognized as one of the most multicultural and diverse cities in the world.

• 32:21Drew Afualo?

  Well, there you go.

• 32:22Speaker 03

Yeah, I know. It really is. So I don't know. So then when I go to Canada and Montreal and Toronto, five hours apart. So it's like, I always was on the east coast, whether I was in the US or I was in Canada, like it all has that like dense east coast vibe. And then when you go to Vancouver, it's closer to like a Portland or Seattle, which is just a not even Seattle, more like a Portland.

• 32:46Drew Afualo?

Mm hmm. That's a good point.

• 32:48Speaker 03

But it's stunning and beautiful and you can't beat the air and

• 32:52Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 32:53Speaker 03

It beats the dump we live in here.

• 32:56Speaker 03

  So.

This episode is brought to you by Amazon Prime. So I'm deep in the scroll, like three hours in and suddenly I'm obsessed with DIY candles. Next thing I know, I've got a silicone mold in my car, essential oils on the way, and all of it delivered to my door before I know it. Whatever it is, Prime helps you get more out of whatever passions you're into or getting into. Head to amazon.com/prime and follow your obsession wherever it goes. I went to Denver last week for work and I, I've been to Denver before, but I'd never like walked around a lot. And I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Like Denver has a weird energy, like.

• 33:33Speaker 03

  I can't breathe in Denver.

• 33:34Drew Afualo?

Oh, me either. I was, because again, I'm like you, I'm a big chatter, so I love to talk.

• 33:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 33:39Drew Afualo?

And I was just talking my, I was talking anyone's ear off who would listen to me.

• 33:42Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 33:43Drew Afualo?

And at one point, I really felt like I was huffing and puffing because I was talking and walking at the same time.

• 33:48Speaker 03

The air because it's of the altitude.

• 33:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 33:50Speaker 03

No, it's unlivable, Denver. Everybody's in Denver. You, you gotta move on. Gab's from, from Denver, basically. I mean, she's a military brat, so she's from a lot of places, but Denver is mostly where, you know, she was a Denver Bronco cheerleader for five years, but we go there now to visit family and I'm like, I'm on that can, I'm

• 34:09Drew Afualo?

  You're huffing that can?

• 34:10Speaker 03

  It's, it's, it's unbreathable.

• 34:13Drew Afualo?

It is. It's really bad. And I know that the airport is like haunted or something. And there's like a devil, there's like a devil looking horse that's like, it's like a big sculpture that's on the way to the airport that you can see. It's enormous.

• 34:26Speaker 03

  It's a Bronco.

• 34:27Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm assuming, I would assume, but the eyes are red and that creeps me out.

• 34:30Speaker 03

  I know.

• 34:30Drew Afualo?

The energy is, and I wouldn't be

• 34:32Speaker 03

  The energy.

• 34:32Drew Afualo?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised though, if the land is cursed from like native people, from colonization.

• 34:37Speaker 03

Oh, people did leave a curse. I would, I, yes, yes. Because, and it's also like.

• 34:44Speaker 03

I know there's meth heads everywhere, but there's the worst there.

• 34:46Drew Afualo?

  Are they?

• 34:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:48Drew Afualo?

I didn't really see any meth heads, I don't think.

• 34:50Speaker 03

Oh, you know what? The only time I went to Denver was I was at a comedy festival there, which typically the lodging at a festivals is the worst lodging you could have. So I was lodged at a place where there was no lobby, you have to go to the window. And I-

• 35:06Drew Afualo?

  Like behind bulletproof glass?

• 35:07Speaker 03

Literally, so I'm like up there, it's like one in the morning after my show. A little me, they're like, "Yeah, you'll be fine," and I'm like, "No, you really gotta let me in." You know, so I just have, staying with Gab and her family is obviously 10 times better.

• 35:21Drew Afualo?

Oh, that's nice. Where's your favorite place to do stand-up?

• 35:23Speaker 03

By the way, I'll be in Denver, that's it. Your city's a dump, I'm still coming. Okay, I'm there in November and I'm in Fort Collins. Um, I don't know if those are on sale yet, but they should be by the time this comes out.

• 35:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, girl, I do hate it there, but I will be there.

• 35:38Speaker 03

I will be there. I don't, and to be fair, I don't like it most places.

• 35:41Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 35:42Speaker 03

I don't even like, I live in Los, people ask me, "What do you like, prefer more, New York or LA?" They're both dumps, there's nothing, you have to pick, like, you know, there's good and bad, like-

• 35:51Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 35:52Speaker 03

There's nowhere great to live. Like, we're apocalyptic, so just like, where you're living, just try and do the best you can.

• 36:01Drew Afualo?

What's your favorite place to do stand-up in? Do you have a favorite place?

• 36:05Speaker 03

  No, I like it all.

• 36:06Drew Afualo?

Yeah, no, do you have like a place you don't really care to go anymore?

• 36:11Speaker 03

I don't like going so far from an airport or where I have to take a connection. I need you to have an international airport, okay, because I'm already taking a risk with one flight. Now I need two? Now I need to risk two landings to get to you?

• 36:26Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 36:26Speaker 03

I'd rather limit my flights. Yeah, all of my places have to do with the tech, with the, with the, with the logistics.

• 36:34Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 36:35Speaker 03

  I mostly have logistical issues.

• 36:38Drew Afualo?

  That makes sense.

• 36:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:39Drew Afualo?

  You seem like you.

• 36:39Speaker 03

Do you travel a lot for your pod?

• 36:41Drew Afualo?

Just in general for work. Yeah, I travel.

• 36:43Speaker 03

What do you do for work?

• 36:44Drew Afualo?

Uh, mostly just telling men to suck my wiener on TikTok. That's kind of my.

• 36:47Speaker 03

  Wait, you have a wiener?

• 36:49Drew Afualo?

No. Well, I mean, I guess it depends on who you ask.

• 36:52Speaker 03

Wait, what do you mean? What?

• 36:55Drew Afualo?

My thing is mostly TikTok. Like TikTok's where I blew up.

• 36:58Speaker 03

  You do, yeah.

• 36:58Drew Afualo?

Yeah, but that's where my shtick has been literally making fun of men. Awful men specifically.

• 37:05Speaker 03

  I love that.

• 37:05Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I've just been literally telling them to suck my dick.

• 37:08Speaker 03

So you tell them to suck your dick, kind of like G I Jane.

• 37:10Drew Afualo?

  Mm hmm.

• 37:10Speaker 03

Like suck my dick. Cause that was a great scene.

• 37:14Drew Afualo?

  Yes, exactly.

• 37:14Speaker 03

  Okay, okay.

• 37:15Drew Afualo?

And then it's turned into influencing mostly. And then I started doing this, like the pod and everything.

• 37:19Speaker 03

Yeah, so you travel a lot.

• 37:20Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I fly to, I fly to New York all the time.

• 37:22Speaker 03

That logistics is the biggest thing?

• 37:24Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's huge. I'm, I'm an expert flyer now, but I will say like you, the minute it's inconvenience just a little, I feel like my hair's on fucking fire.

• 37:33Speaker 03

  It's terrible.

• 37:34Drew Afualo?

Traveling is already so terrible. So when you're traveling, gets fucked up. It's awful.

• 37:39Speaker 03

  It's awful.

• 37:40Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I did a college talk at Penn State earlier this year.

• 37:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 37:44Drew Afualo?

And, thank you. And to get there, trains, planes and automobiles, it really took me forever to get there.

• 37:50Speaker 03

Like that this summer and it's like, I have to rent a car and I'm like,

• 37:56Speaker 03

like, just, I've been dreading this car rental more than like, having to go to the do- I'm like, I gotta go to Avis. Okay, I gotta have an ID. I gotta figure out, there's a credit card, there's a this with the insurance. Like renting a car is just not a thing anymore.

• 38:14Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it really isn't. And when I went to that, uh, place, it's Belafonte, Pennsylvania, I believe. And, uh, I had to take like, initially it was supposed to be two flights, but I missed one of them. So then it was one flight, get in a car, drive for four hours. And then get there to leave, I had to go to like this tiny ass airport.

• 38:35Speaker 03

  It's scary.

• 38:36Drew Afualo?

But to even get there was, uh, like a complete journey. It felt like a treasure hunt because Ubers don't come that far out. They don't go to the airport.

• 38:45Speaker 03

  This is what I'm saying.

• 38:46Drew Afualo?

  It was a nightmare.

• 38:47Speaker 03

  Good money?

• 38:48Drew Afualo?

Yeah, really good money. That's why I made it there.

• 38:52Speaker 03

That's why we do it. Okay, that's why we do it. Okay, I'll see you in Denver.

• 38:56Drew Afualo?

I know, and flying is so like, do you like, you don't like flying.

• 38:58Speaker 03

  Terrible.

• 38:59Drew Afualo?

It's terrible. Have you ever been on like a tour bus or anything?

• 39:02Speaker 03

  No.

• 39:02Drew Afualo?

  When you're doing comedy?

• 39:03Speaker 03

  No.

• 39:03Drew Afualo?

Does that sound worse to you than flying?

• 39:06Speaker 03

  It sounds scary.

• 39:07Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it was honestly, I did tour last year, I toured last year and had a tour bus and only flew like I think a couple of times. I was shocked at how much I loved the bus.

• 39:16Speaker 03

I actually think I could love the bus, that's what I'm saying, if it's yours. Here's the thing, when I was starting in Canada and I would take the Greyhound between Montreal and Toronto or Ottawa or all the little cities that I would do.

• 39:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 39:30Speaker 03

I found the Greyhound amazing, because it's like so easy, you got there 10 minutes before.

• 39:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 39:35Speaker 03

You get on, you just hope you don't die, that there's nobody crazy, but as soon as you're on and you're like, okay, everybody's settled in.

• 39:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 39:41Speaker 03

You know, um, and I loved the train, the Via Rail. Um, the train here is so inaccessible, I wish there was, the Amtrak was, it's so rare that I get to take the train, but I love the train. And here the train is so slow that it's like never worth it to go. In Canada, the Via Rail works really great though. And I found that in England, their train is very expensive but works very good.

• 40:05Drew Afualo?

Oh, okay, I've only been to England once and I don't think I took, oh no, I did take the tube, I think, once.

• 40:11Speaker 03

Not the tube, the tube is the subway, I'm talking about like the, like, I went from like London to Manchester.

• 40:17Drew Afualo?

  Oh, okay.

• 40:18Speaker 03

Yeah, when you have to go to another city, if you have like dates in another city, it's like a four hour train ride. And it's just, it's a great, you're like on a Virgin train and it's a real train. It's called Virgin, the company, I don't mean like, you know, it's not, it has no.

• 40:36Drew Afualo?

Not that, not that kind of Virgin, different kind.

• 40:38Speaker 03

Yeah, no, the bus seems good, but the only bus I've heard about really was Gabby was on a bus for Dancing with the Stars tour.

• 40:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 40:45Speaker 03

And there was like 97 dudes on the bus.

• 40:48Drew Afualo?

  That's awful.

• 40:49Speaker 03

So who did you have on your bus?

• 40:50Drew Afualo?

It was just my family and my team.

• 40:52Speaker 03

That's amazing, so mom was there?

• 40:55Drew Afualo?

Yep, sister, Carrie was there, my assistant, who's also here, she's right there.

• 40:59Speaker 03

  Oh, there she is, okay.

• 41:00Drew Afualo?

Also another gay, and Alex, my agent, she was there, and then my dad, my man, my fiance.

• 41:06Speaker 03

  How many beds were there?

• 41:08Drew Afualo?

I think there was. Twelve, yeah, twelve.

• 41:11Speaker 03

And you could sleep like this, the bus ever.

• 41:13Drew Afualo?

It felt like that kind of like they, everyone, me and my fiance were in the back on one bed and then everyone had their own bunk. Everybody else had their own like bunk to sleep in, but so it was kinda hard, I think in the beginning to adjust, but after a while it felt soothing. Like the rocking. Sometimes though, it did feel disorienting, like laying down in there and then waking up and you're in a completely different place. It was a little, it felt like I kept passing out and waking up.

• 41:36Speaker 03

And the bus driver you trust.

• 41:38Drew Afualo?

Oh yeah, his name was Dan. We tried everything we could to like bond with him. He didn't give a fuck about us, which I kinda liked. He was just like, I'm here to keep you alive and that's it. Like he.

• 41:47Speaker 03

I love that. You don't want him getting into the party like he's, he needs his Red Bull, his coffee. Like I just, you know, I want him, there's coyotes that could soar, you know, he's driving through the night. And let's be a lord, let's get those headlights on.

• 42:03Drew Afualo?

Yeah, we would always be like, hey, Dan, and he'd be like, hey, and then he would always close that little curtain, like the one that covers him and we're like, Dan's not fucking with us like that, that's okay.

• 42:12Speaker 03

  Perfect, he's a professional.

• 42:13Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, he's, he's all business.

• 42:14Speaker 03

Cause he's probably had to drive, you know, you're driving fucking, I don't know who, so just get in, shut up. You know?

• 42:22Drew Afualo?

  He was like that, he's.

• 42:22Speaker 03

  He's gotta be like dad.

• 42:24Drew Afualo?

Yeah, he's driven some really famous people. He was kinda telling us and then he was like, yeah, well, that's alright, alright. And he just closed the little curtain.

• 42:31Speaker 03

  Perfect.

• 42:32Drew Afualo?

And we'd be like, Dan, what do you think? And he'd be, he would just wouldn't respond.

• 42:35Speaker 03

No, good. Shout out to Dan. And by the way, you're here today.

• 42:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 42:39Speaker 03

So he did his job. Some people just doing your job, that's the best thing you can do.

• 42:45Drew Afualo?

That's, that's actually a really good point. I, I appreciate that. Like that's why I'm like, I appreciate someone who treats me like nothing other than just like this, just another day.

• 42:53Speaker 03

Yeah, cause for him, that is his job.

• 42:55Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 42:56Speaker 03

To be a great driver, and he was.

• 42:59Drew Afualo?

Did you like London? Do you like it over there? In the UK?

• 43:02Speaker 03

  Uh, I do.

• 43:03Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, it's cool.

• 43:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 43:05Drew Afualo?

When I went last time, I started some real beef with them and over their food, like over their.

• 43:09Speaker 03

  Their food's terrible.

• 43:10Drew Afualo?

  The British cuisine, yeah.

• 43:11Speaker 03

  The food?

• 43:12Drew Afualo?

  It's awful.

• 43:13Speaker 03

It's terrible. The only good food is Indian food there.

• 43:15Drew Afualo?

I agree. And Italian food's pretty good.

• 43:17Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 43:18Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 43:18Speaker 03

Oh, you know, but the Indian is phenomenal there, obviously. Everything else. Rubbish.

• 43:29Speaker 03

  Just rubbish.

• 43:30Drew Afualo?

I agree. I, I really angered some of them too by just saying I, it just wasn't really my, I wasn't fucking with it. Wasn't my vibe.

• 43:36Speaker 03

  It's all so bland.

• 43:38Drew Afualo?

And I really did want like an English, a proper English breakfast. Like I really did want to try it because I, it seemed like it just a bunch of things. And I'm cool with like a bunch of things on a plate.

• 43:47Speaker 03

  The beans and the.

• 43:49Drew Afualo?

It just tasted like ass. All of it tasted bad.

• 43:52Speaker 03

  It's like bad food.

• 43:53Drew Afualo?

And they all, everything tastes the same, which is bad.

• 43:56Speaker 03

Exactly. And it's all the same colorish. It's like, it's amazing because they have such good Indian food, which is, Indian food is amazing because I forget who said it, but it was like, you can, you can understand why they went to war for spices.

• 44:09Drew Afualo?

  Right, for real.

• 44:10Speaker 03

You know what I mean? It's like, these people could make a lentil, the most amazing dish you ever had. You just with spices. So they're so close. They can have an influence into seasoning and stuff like that.

• 44:21Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 44:22Speaker 03

You know? And then next door, they have France, which is incredible patisserie and, and baking and cheese and wine. Like, it's just the pub. Like, it's just, you don't even, it's like, it ain't it.

• 44:37Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, it really isn't.

• 44:39Speaker 03

But they have such, in Italy, it's like, you're in Europe, bro.

• 44:44Drew Afualo?

  You're so close.

• 44:45Speaker 03

Like, there's so much good cuisine.

• 44:48Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 44:48Speaker 03

You're not isolated. Like, if I went to Australia and the food was bad, I would understand.

• 44:54Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 44:55Speaker 03

They're not near any, they did what they could with the kelp or whatever the fuck is there. You know, you're like, like, like if you're in Australia and you're like a, you're like, okay, we'll use this, we'll make this. But it's like, in London, you're right there.

• 45:09Drew Afualo?

It's also the birthplace of colonialism. So like, they did pill for a lot of fucking places. Not one spice made it back. That's crazy.

• 45:15Speaker 03

Or it's like separate. And the Indians don't want anything to do with them. It's like, don't taint our shit. You know?

• 45:22Drew Afualo?

  What the hell happened?

• 45:23Speaker 03

Yeah. So it's like, it's so weird. So many great cuisine countries around. Spain is there.

• 45:31Speaker 03

  Like

• 45:31Drew Afualo?

Even Deutschland, like you were saying earlier.

• 45:33Speaker 03

I don't think the food is any better in Deutschland.

• 45:37Drew Afualo?

I really don't know, to be honest.

• 45:38Speaker 03

  I don't know.

• 45:39Drew Afualo?

  Never been to Germany.

• 45:40Speaker 03

No, no, I don't think the food in Germany.

• 45:42Drew Afualo?

  I believe you.

• 45:43Speaker 03

  Sausage, okay.

• 45:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, but even then.

• 45:46Speaker 03

Yeah. You know what, I like a Moroccan sausage, I like like a murgat, like, like I like Middle Eastern food, Lebanese food, like if we're reaching. Fuck, and I know they're far from that, but it's like. Please.

• 46:01Drew Afualo?

  Please, try something.

• 46:02Speaker 03

There's not really good Lebanese food here, and there's not good Ethiopian food here. There's Little Ethiopia and you have to go all the way there, it's not like, what I like about Toronto and whatever is, you know, part of their diversity is like, you could be anywhere and sometimes there's an Ethiopian restaurant and there's a Lebanese restaurant, it's like, it's, it's not just in Little Ethiopia, it's not just, you know,

• 46:22Drew Afualo?

  It's everywhere.

• 46:23Speaker 03

  Everybody is more like together.

• 46:25Drew Afualo?

  Encultured.

• 46:26Speaker 03

Here, it's like we have to trek when we want Ethiopian, we're gonna go there.

• 46:30Drew Afualo?

That is true, even like it, when I was in London too, where did I go, also Paris, when I went to Paris, they had really great food too, but.

• 46:36Speaker 03

  It's amazing.

• 46:37Drew Afualo?

But I did have Five Guys a couple times when I was in Paris.

• 46:40Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, no, cuz you got.

• 46:41Drew Afualo?

  You crave normalcy.

• 46:42Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, how much charcuterie could you have, but if you're gonna go and have charcuterie, yeah, you grab a baguette there, the baguette is amazing. It, it's not the hard, but when you're making that food and you're making it great, it's good, it's like England, what do they make, potatoes? Like, what are they, and it's not even a full baked, like, it's not.

• 47:01Drew Afualo?

Have you ever seen those jacket potato, Jackie potatoes that they do?

• 47:04Speaker 03

  What is it?

• 47:05Drew Afualo?

They like, it's like they have places where they cut them open like baked potato, but they put a bunch of shit on it, like, they put like mayonnaise, I've seen like cheese, I've seen like, peas and beans and all that, like, they put it just, it's just baked potato.

• 47:19Speaker 03

Why mayonnaise when sour cream has been established?

• 47:21Drew Afualo?

  I have no clue.

• 47:22Speaker 03

  Like, it's so close, it's just, it's like, it's.

• 47:26Drew Afualo?

It's just a little bit bad.

• 47:27Speaker 03

They're going out of their way to be bad, it's kinda like the Prius. Like, to me, the Prius is like, they went out of their way to make it boring inside, like, there's no reason.

• 47:38Drew Afualo?

  Can I tell you something?

• 47:39Speaker 03

For it to be that gray, whatever.

• 47:39Drew Afualo?

My first car I ever bought was a Toyota Prius.

• 47:42Speaker 03

Of course, cuz it's a great car. This is the thing, as a car, you can't beat Toyota. You can't, as a car, they are fine. Why go out of, you could pick any color to make the seat, any, like, this is not, it doesn't affect the function of the car to make it, at least not, like, you get in the car and you're bored.

• 48:02Drew Afualo?

Right, right. That's how I feel looking at Cybertrucks too, like, out of your way to be bad.

• 48:07Speaker 03

Also, the screen on the Prius is always, it's like, we get it, it's, I don't need it being a video that's like constantly showing me the gas is going to the battery, it's going, like.

• 48:17Drew Afualo?

That is true, it does do that.

We don't even, that, that eye clutter is like, yeah, the Prius has gone out of its way to make itself bad inside, like, London is phenomenal. And there's so many things close by, like, the mayonnaise, the sour cream, it's an easy fix. And it improves your baked potato by.

• 48:36Drew Afualo?

  Like a million percent.

• 48:37Speaker 03

Would order if you said sour cream and chives. Okay, here's a snack.

• 48:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, now we're talking.

• 48:45Speaker 03

Like, it's just the mayonnaise on the potato, it's like, I feel like they saw a picture of a baked potato. And they didn't know it was sour cream, they thought it was mayonnaise.

• 48:54Drew Afualo?

And they've just passed down that generational trauma.

• 48:56Speaker 03

  That sounds awful.

• 48:57Drew Afualo?

I know, it does sound awful. Every time I look at it, I'm like, oh god, and you guys want me to believe in you? Like, some, when I really talk shit, like, it's gotten to the point now where anytime, like, someone sees TikToks of British people making food that just looks downright awful. They'll tag me and be like, how do you feel about this? Because I got so passionate about how angry it made me.

• 49:19Speaker 03

  It's offensive.

• 49:19Drew Afualo?

It is, I, I agree, I was, I just feel like they eat like, they eat like you still shit in the corner at parties, like.

• 49:26Speaker 03

I know, it's kind of like Jews have this dish, like, people like to say, like, Jewish food, I think, is terrible, and I get in trouble for that. But it's like, there's certain things I like. We nailed the bagels, there's no question, we nailed bagels, and smoked meat.

• 49:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 49:42Speaker 03

Okay. Beyond that, okay, the gefilte fish is like, gefilte fish is scraps of fish. It's from when Jews were doing terribly Holocaust times when we couldn't shop. That they would take scraps of fish from fish stores that were thrown out and they would mash it all together. Kind of like the ends of the soaps that they mashed together. Like when you're poor and you have to take like the slivers of soap to make one big soap again. We do that with fish. But now it's like Jews have done pretty well. Like, there's no reason to still be eating that, you know? Um, they've done, you know, unless you're my family, which to be born Jewish and poor felt doubly offensive. Cause I'm like, who is that even happening to anymore?

• 50:25Speaker 03

Like Ma, you were so close. Like it's just to me, it's so insane. Like, you know, um, but my mother went out of her way like, you know, it, it, it's just, how did this happen to us? You know, but, um.

• 50:40Drew Afualo?

Have you ever had Samoan food?

• 50:42Speaker 03

I was just gonna ask, so what is Samoan food?

• 50:44Drew Afualo?

  It, I mean.

• 50:45Speaker 03

Cause I'll tell you if I've had it. I might not know what it is and maybe I have had it.

• 50:49Drew Afualo?

There's, um, I'm trying to think, well, like the cuisine, I would say.

• 50:53Speaker 03

I'm thinking pineapple. I'm thinking seafood, but maybe I'm totally wrong.

• 50:58Drew Afualo?

Yeah, lots of seafood. I would say pineapple's more in Hawaiian food.

• 51:01Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 51:02Drew Afualo?

Uh, we do use a lot of coconut, like coconut milk specifically we use in a lot of things, but there's like things called palusami. Fai, there's like sop sue. Sop sue is like glass noodles with like meat and stuff. Delicious.

• 51:13Speaker 03

Okay. Where is there a Samoan? I'm gonna write this. Is there a Samoan restaurant here?

• 51:17Drew Afualo?

There are not now. Well, actually there is that one.

• 51:19Speaker 03

See, it's like LA has no excuse. We're diverse so many. There's not even a Samoan.

• 51:24Drew Afualo?

There is one, there is one place I can think of. I think it's in, I, I wanna say it's in Carson. Yeah.

• 51:30Speaker 03

  Where?

• 51:31Drew Afualo?

I need to look up the name of it. I think it's, it's called like island, something, but it is all Samoan food. And it's kind of like a plate lunch place, kind of like Panda Express. Like when you go and they like fill up a plate for you.

• 51:42Speaker 03

  No, that's what I want.

• 51:43Drew Afualo?

But it's all Samoan food. I'll look up the name of it.

• 51:45Speaker 03

Okay. I would love that because, um.

• 51:48Drew Afualo?

  They have good food.

• 51:49Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah. There's a couple, um, what's the, the, the people that make that great ceviche? It, uh, Peruvian food.

• 51:58Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 51:59Speaker 03

I think it, I think it's Peruvian, but maybe it's not. I know. But you know what I'm thinking?

• 52:05Drew Afualo?

Are you thinking of a place specifically?

• 52:07Speaker 03

Ceviche. Well, ceviche is such a big dish now, so it's hard. Yeah, I was thinking of a place.

• 52:15Drew Afualo?

Oh, you're thinking of a certain, a specific restaurant?

• 52:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:17Drew Afualo?

Is it like a franchise restaurant, or is it like a standalone?

• 52:20Speaker 03

  It's like a standalone.

• 52:22Drew Afualo?

  It'll come to you.

• 52:22Speaker 03

Maybe it's called like Rivcas or something.

• 52:25Drew Afualo?

Okay, I love ceviche. Ceviche is delicious.

• 52:27Speaker 03

Yeah, I know, and I think it was Peruvian ceviche. I think it was like really chunky sea.

• 52:32Drew Afualo?

Yum. You like seafood? I love seafood.

• 52:35Speaker 03

I do love seafood. I love seafood, yeah.

• 52:38Drew Afualo?

  I think like for-

• 52:39Speaker 03

And I like a lot of different kinds of food.

• 52:41Drew Afualo?

I know, that's becoming very clear to me. I love that, though.

• 52:43Speaker 03

  Well, I grew up kosher.

• 52:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 52:45Speaker 03

Which was horrible. And all I wanted growing up was a nugget.

• 52:50Speaker 03

You know, if I could get a chicken nugget, like the non-kosher kids had chicken nuggets, all the kids in the neighborhood would, after school, they would get it at Happy Meal in a little box.

• 52:58Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 52:59Speaker 03

I want to be happy, like, I can't be happy. Um, but my, but my mother, I'm complaining, my mother cooked every day. I'm complaining, look at me, this woman made. And she would make like these vats of stew and what, everything was kosher and, um, but I didn't get a lot of different, I had a very meat and potatoes kind of, you know, we had a very no-frills childhood. My mother was gonna feed us, shelter us, and educate us. And that was like really it, yeah. But I would get home and see this huge vat of stew, and I knew that was like dinner for like six nights, like until that crock pot is fucking empty, this is my whole life. And by day four of it, it's like the, the carrot is like, I'm like, so.

• 53:42Speaker 03

I don't know, it's surprising that I do like lots of foods, but when I became not kosher. I don't know, I just, like, people are like, oh, let's, I, I never said no, I'm like, yeah, I would eat that. Like, there's almost nothing I don't eat. Even if I don't like something.

• 53:56Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, you'll still try it.

• 53:57Speaker 03

  Yeah, I eat it.

• 53:58Drew Afualo?

You'll always try. Are you more a sweet savory kind of person?

• 54:02Speaker 03

I kinda like it all. I just like, I like diversity in food. I like having a lot. That's why I'm like, is there some own food? Cause I don't know if I've had it.

• 54:08Drew Afualo?

Yeah, there, there is. And there's, uh, it, I would say it's mostly like the genesis of it is real like rice and meat. Like that's mostly it.

• 54:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:17Drew Afualo?

But there's like very specific ways we marinate meat and stuff like that.

• 54:20Speaker 03

Yeah, I don't know, because rice and meat can go a lot of different ways.

• 54:23Drew Afualo?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 54:24Speaker 03

Yeah, but the glass noodles was reminding me of Filipino food.

• 54:26Drew Afualo?

Mm-hmm. Yeah, there, there, actually, there is a Filipino dish that is very similar to that.

• 54:31Speaker 03

I had such great Filipino food at this comedy show that I did. This Filipino comedian CJ runs the show.

• 54:40Drew Afualo?

  Hmm.

• 54:40Speaker 03

Um, and I don't know what the restaurant's called, but every time he asked me to do the show, I say yes, because we get, um, a plate of food.

• 54:48Drew Afualo?

You being motivated by really good cuisine?

• 54:50Speaker 03

Yeah, cause I never remember the place. I never looked at, but I know like, okay, if I ever do the show at this restaurant, I get to eat the restaurant.

• 54:57Drew Afualo?

And you still to this day don't remember it?

• 54:59Speaker 03

No, but as soon as I pull up, I'm like, oh.

• 55:03Drew Afualo?

That's why I love that show?

• 55:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 55:05Drew Afualo?

I do have some fun facts about you.

• 55:06Speaker 03

  Oh, hit me.

• 55:07Drew Afualo?

If you would like to hear them, we, we shall see if you find them very fun.

• 55:11Speaker 03

  Right, literally.

• 55:12Drew Afualo?

Uh, it says in 2020, you dressed as cult leader Keith Rainier for Halloween. And it says guy from the NXIVM cult that they made a Hulu documentary of.

• 55:22Speaker 03

Oh yeah, I did a great.

• 55:23Drew Afualo?

And there's a picture of you.

• 55:24Speaker 03

  How good is that costume?

• 55:26Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, it's honestly.

• 55:26Speaker 03

  Is it not uncanny?

• 55:28Drew Afualo?

  It is uncanny, yeah.

• 55:29Speaker 03

Is that not uncanny? I, I hope you guys put a picture up for everybody to see, because that was in lockdown.

• 55:35Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 55:36Speaker 03

Right? October 2020. And I had, uh, flown to Toronto. And, cause we had a brief period was open. And then as soon as I landed in Toronto, it was closed. And we weren't, I was, my friend Natalie, shout out to Natalie. She put me in, one of her parents had a unit that like was the scariest unit, but we had to be isolated.

• 56:00Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 56:01Speaker 03

For two weeks and she would like drop off food for me. Like it was such lockdown, you can't imagine.

• 56:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 56:07Speaker 03

And I was like losing my mind and it was Halloween. When we got out, like you couldn't go out in the streets, but you could bubble again. So I bubbled with Natalie and we were doing Halloween just in her apartment. And I had that, and she, somebody told me I looked like this pedophile. No, this is the people I get told I look like. Like Gabby gets to be told she looks like Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Coolidge. Like, I am literally told that I look like this pedophile.

• 56:33Drew Afualo?

  This very specific pedophile.

• 56:35Speaker 03

So help me God, I put a little mascara on my face, I'm like, it's uncanny. I'm like, it's actually uncanny. They kinda got me. Like, you know, I'm like, why do we have the same hair?

• 56:47Drew Afualo?

Right, yeah, the picture, the more I look at the picture, the more alike it does look, I will say.

• 56:52Speaker 03

Yeah, so I threw that up there.

• 56:55Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's a little unsettling. Do you like Halloween?

• 56:58Speaker 03

Uh, I kind of, low key, every gift I, uh, every gift, every present I, uh, every present, now gift, I think, every costume that I put on

• 57:10Speaker 03

has been free, but they've been very good. Like this one. This, I had everything. It was my sweatband and my t-shirt inside out.

• 57:18Drew Afualo?

And I've never seen the two of you in the same room, so what are we saying?

• 57:21Speaker 03

Exactly, okay. My other costumes I've had, I did Yentl.

• 57:25Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 57:26Speaker 03

Also, is she me, am I her? Like, I guess I'm good with like a cheap, good costume that I don't need like, you know, I won't like, yeah, like, I just put on something I have.

• 57:40Drew Afualo?

Do you like a lot of these kinds of like documentaries, like the cult ones? Do you like watching documentaries?

• 57:45Speaker 03

  I'm a documentary person.

• 57:46Drew Afualo?

  I love documentaries too.

• 57:48Speaker 03

  I know, I know.

• 57:48Drew Afualo?

I just recently watched the cruise ship one about Amy Radley.

• 57:52Speaker 03

Where, okay, what do you think with Amy Radley?

• 57:54Drew Afualo?

Okay, I, honest to God, I really do think that she's dead. I think that she was trafficked. I think she was trafficked and then killed. I really don't know, I really don't think she's alive because if she was trafficked, they don't live very long, obviously, when they're being trafficked. Yeah, like women. So I'm just, I'm thinking that's what it is. However-

• 58:09Speaker 03

What do you mean? Because you think she died of an STD, STD or something?

• 58:12Drew Afualo?

No, like being killed because men are awful. You know what I mean? Like, I'm just not putting my faith in men.

• 58:16Speaker 03

Yeah, but they don't kill their cash cows.

• 58:19Drew Afualo?

That's true, but if she ages out, then what do they do?

• 58:22Speaker 03

They don't age out. These perverts, they like every age.

• 58:24Drew Afualo?

I mean, like pimps, like when they're like, you know, they want women of a certain age.

• 58:28Speaker 03

  Sometimes, but a lot want.

• 58:30Drew Afualo?

  Well, now you're convincing me.

• 58:31Speaker 03

I'm just telling you. Here's what happened.

• 58:34Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 58:34Speaker 03

  And I have no.

• 58:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'd love to know what you think happened.

• 58:36Speaker 03

And I have, and I have no back, I have no sources.

• 58:39Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 58:43Speaker 01

• 59:17Speaker 03

She was trafficked. She had kids. Because of course they're not using protection.

• 59:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:22Speaker 03

And they threaten her constantly, like they do for hundreds of people. We hear about her because she's white and she's from America.

• 59:28Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 59:28Speaker 03

So it gives us a glimpse into what's going on. But they have hundreds of local girls like this. You know, hundreds of girls all over, you know.

• 59:35Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:35Speaker 03

We've been trafficking girls, even when we do it in America, when you hear about Epstein, a lot of the poor white girls in Florida and those areas. You know what I mean?

• 59:42Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 59:43Speaker 03

Um, obviously they're poor white girls and their families don't care about them, so we're not looking for them. But an Amy Radley had like kind of a well-to-do family. They're obviously doing this type of a trip.

• 59:50Drew Afualo?

And they kept bugging people about it.

• 59:51Speaker 03

Yeah. So it gives us a glimpse, but I think that she was trafficked, has kids, and has no, can't, you know, doesn't want to reach out.

• 1:00:01Drew Afualo?

And I'm sure she's traumatized too, like, you know.

• 1:00:04Speaker 03

She's traumatized, but also it's like if she reaches out, they could be killed.

• 1:00:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah. That is true.

• 1:00:08Speaker 03

  And, you know.

• 1:00:10Drew Afualo?

It's all viable theory, I think.

• 1:00:11Speaker 03

And she's been living this life for 30 years now. That how does she return?

• 1:00:15Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:00:16Speaker 03

And, um, I think it's just.

• 1:00:18Drew Afualo?

It was so interesting though, the documentary.

• 1:00:20Speaker 03

Too much and too embarrassing and too, she, and she's a different person.

• 1:00:25Drew Afualo?

  That's true. That's a, that's a very viable theory, I think.

• 1:00:28Speaker 03

But it's also possible she died and the brother is so dumb. I can't with him.

• 1:00:35Drew Afualo?

I really was blown away by the, just the like, yeah, I don't know, just, she's gone. Like with the cruise people, like I found it so shocking.

• 1:00:45Speaker 03

Oh yeah, that cruise dude is involved.

• 1:00:46Drew Afualo?

Yeah, what a prick. I literally was like, hey, fuck that guy. That guy sucks. But the way that they were just like, well, I mean, we're not going to ruin the cruise for other people. Huh? You're talking about someone going missing. Like, and it's like a full grown adult person. It's not like, you know what I'm saying? I just found that so that they were like, well.

• 1:01:03Speaker 03

The cruise is disgusting. That man who was in the guitar, he definitely, all the sightings were real. You don't have just three normal sightings.

• 1:01:10Drew Afualo?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 1:01:11Speaker 03

You know, like she was obviously alive.

• 1:01:16Speaker 03

I don't think she, she went over at all. But I do think the brother, eh, him.

• 1:01:24Speaker 03

My bro, him not walking back with her to the hotel. I don't even care if she came in.

• 1:01:28Drew Afualo?

  Same thing.

• 1:01:29Speaker 03

But I am sorry. I am my brother's keeper. Even my brothers, they played, uh, football after school, just in the park with friends. And I would be sitting there watching all those school bags until we could go home. But I didn't walk home myself.

• 1:01:42Drew Afualo?

  You're watching all the bags.

• 1:01:43Speaker 03

My brother's like, you have to watch, yeah. We'll be done in an hour. I'm sitting there. I'm like, it's getting cold. Like, do you think we go home?

• 1:01:49Drew Afualo?

  You're on bag duty.

• 1:01:50Speaker 03

  Yeah, but like.

• 1:01:52Drew Afualo?

I feel the same way though. Like I'm, I'm a very like, when we leave together, we come home together. I'm a very.

• 1:01:57Speaker 03

That's it. Especially if she's dancing with one of the crew members.

• 1:02:02Drew Afualo?

I know. I think the same thing. Even when I went, when I would go out in college and stuff, I was very much so the sheepdog of my friend group. Like I was running around everyone to corral them and make sure we all stay in the same general area to keep everybody safe. Especially young women.

• 1:02:16Speaker 03

The whole family drinking to the extent that they drank. And also them being homophobic.

• 1:02:22Drew Afualo?

I thought the same. When they, when they, when I found out they were homophobic, I thought to myself, I'm rooting for you a little less.

• 1:02:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:02:29Drew Afualo?

It's a reminder. Don't make me root against you. I was been, I've been on your side. But that part also, the fact that they were so shocked and like you see all the old videos and stuff. She had like.

• 1:02:40Speaker 03

This is a dyke. Sorry. No, but I'm like, what do you need a flag?

• 1:02:46Drew Afualo?

  She had an undercut.

• 1:02:47Speaker 03

No, people are shocked like Katie Langiskay, hello.

• 1:02:50Drew Afualo?

She had a line up like on the back of her neck. I was like, well. In the nineties, that's a pretty bold statement, I would say.

• 1:02:57Speaker 03

No, obviously, and it is, you know, but um. Yeah, I don't think she would have uh killed herself over that. I just don't think she killed herself. Yeah.

• 1:03:05Drew Afualo?

Especially if she was gonna go off and live her own life.

• 1:03:07Speaker 03

And she had girlfriends and she was doing good.

• 1:03:10Drew Afualo?

Oh, yeah, absolutely. But I love that you love documentaries. So do I. I went through a real phase with cult ones too. Where I was watching them. Yeah. Did you watch, I think it was called. La Luz Del Mundo, Del Mundo.

• 1:03:21Speaker 03

I actually haven't seen that one.

• 1:03:22Drew Afualo?

That one's on HBO. That one's crazy. It's like the Keep Sweet, Pray and Obey one.

• 1:03:27Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:03:28Drew Afualo?

It's like that on like steroids. It's like way, way, way worse.

• 1:03:31Speaker 03

Is it the one that River Phoenix was in and Joaquin?

• 1:03:34Drew Afualo?

  No, I don't think so.

• 1:03:35Speaker 03

I don't think they made a documentary, but that cult that they were born into sounded really whacked out.

• 1:03:40Drew Afualo?

  Interesting. I didn't, I didn't even know that. I didn't even know they were in a cult.

• 1:03:43Speaker 03

Yeah, I think they were in the type of cult where they. Share a bed with their mother in.

• 1:03:48Drew Afualo?

  Oh.

• 1:03:49Speaker 03

  In really gross ways.

• 1:03:50Drew Afualo?

  That's crazy.

• 1:03:51Speaker 03

That's what I heard and I don't wanna, maybe I'm wrong about that. Okay. River, rest in peace, but Joaquin, I don't know. I'm just saying, I don't know.

• 1:03:59Drew Afualo?

I don't know. I don't wanna speak on your behalf. Let's go back to some fun facts.

• 1:04:02Speaker 03

Okay, go ahead. Sorry, I'm easily derailed and I can talk to you. You're chatting and I'm chatting and I love another chatty bit because I'm like.

• 1:04:08Drew Afualo?

  I love a chat.

• 1:04:09Speaker 03

  Yeah, I love a chat.

• 1:04:12Drew Afualo?

Uh, this is you got your first script deal by pretending to be a courier sent to deliver a script to the president of HBO Kansas.

• 1:04:18Speaker 03

Yes, it wasn't, it wasn't a script deal. It was an option deal, which is their option to sell it. For a deal. I got like a thousand dollars for it. But basically I would just print my script at work for free. Um, and they had all good supplies at work because I was, I was uh an accountant.

• 1:04:35Drew Afualo?

Well, they gave you the free laptop. They have to have good printers, yeah.

• 1:04:37Speaker 03

Full, full supply room. I'm talking highlighters, pads, different types, envelopes, staplers, stapler. You know, just, just like all the good stuff.

• 1:04:48Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:04:49Speaker 03

So I printed it and I just looked up like who makes TV because again, I knew nothing about stand. This is like before I'd seen much. I haven't even gone down like the dive. I was like, oh, people who had shows. Uh, were standoffs and they wrote, so I should have a show. Like this is all my math.

• 1:05:08Drew Afualo?

I honestly envy it. I think you've got a great mindset.

• 1:05:10Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 1:05:11Drew Afualo?

You're like, I could just, I could just do it.

• 1:05:13Speaker 03

Yeah, and I had stories. So I wrote it. I printed it. I put it in envelopes and I just like went to these offices. I had no, you know, I just said, "Oh, the president asked, you know, to read it." And they would be like, "There's no president." I'm like, "I'm just a courier. I don't know." And so they would, I guess, get it to the office in some way. And I guess, you know, whoever was tasked with reading, you know, one of my, my thing got some recognition to the point of getting an option.

• 1:05:41Drew Afualo?

  You're literally a genius.

• 1:05:42Speaker 03

Yeah, which didn't go anywhere. But what it did get me was representat- like actually into the business a little bit.

• 1:05:47Drew Afualo?

Absolutely. Especially if you're just pretending to be your own delivery person.

• 1:05:51Speaker 03

Yeah, I'm just like, "Well, I don't know whoever runs," you know, I had, I didn't look into the company. I literally just looked up like, I Googled the address like, I didn't know, you know, anything more than the building that it was in. Like I would, I'm talking to the security desk.

• 1:06:05Drew Afualo?

I think you're my hero, dude.

• 1:06:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:06:07Drew Afualo?

I really do. I just really, I genuinely admire that you're just like, "What am I, like, it's fucking hard? Just fucking walk in there and do it."

• 1:06:16Speaker 03

No, I thought it was, I, I, I didn't think it was, but I was like, "How else do you mail these places?" Like, there's no way to like mail it. Like, I was just thinking logistically.

• 1:06:26Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:06:27Speaker 03

So it's in the envelope. I just bring it there.

• 1:06:30Drew Afualo?

No, that you're literally, that's why I said, "You're a genius." Like, I'd, I'd never thought about something like that.

• 1:06:35Speaker 03

Yeah, and then, um, yeah, and now, you know, a million terrible people will, you don't have it. Save yourself some time.

• 1:06:45Drew Afualo?

Very true. That's actually very good advice. Please take that.

• 1:06:47Speaker 03

Yeah, honestly, save your life. Save yourself some time.

• 1:06:51Drew Afualo?

I think that whenever, uh, people have critiques about comics, like longstanding comics, in the sense of saying like they're not funny. I'm always like, "Well..."

• 1:07:01Drew Afualo?

  I mean, I think I'm kinda funny.

• 1:07:02Speaker 03

  No, exactly.

• 1:07:03Drew Afualo?

There is a little bit of... There is a little bit of validity to it.

• 1:07:05Speaker 03

No, exactly. But in this case, it's like, you guys didn't think... If you're thinking of it because you heard it from me, you didn't think of it. So you already don't have it.

• 1:07:13Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 1:07:13Speaker 03

You know what I mean? It's already... You're starting on original.

• 1:07:17Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:17Speaker 03

  So then just...

• 1:07:18Drew Afualo?

Out the gate, so don't even worry about it.

• 1:07:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, just stop there.

• 1:07:22Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I talked to one of my other friends who's in stand-up, and he was saying like, "I just like, this was the only job that was gonna work for me." And I was like, "Right." Like, I... It was either this, or like, I don't even know. Probably I'm the leader of a cult, to be honest.

• 1:07:37Speaker 03

Yeah, I would join that cult. We're always in the mood. I'm in the mood for a cult for like, a year or two.

• 1:07:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you think? Just like a summer fling with a cult?

• 1:07:44Speaker 03

Yeah, like, I'd like to go to an island or something. Do you know what I mean? And you're just living... It's like camp.

• 1:07:50Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, summer camp.

• 1:07:51Speaker 03

Yeah, you know? And you have like, a very particular job. "I'm in charge of this corn," or whatever, you know? And that's all you have to do. It's a kind of a simplicity. Like, you have such a strict rules.

• 1:08:04Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you're corn, I'm name tags. Or like, that's really it. That's all we need.

• 1:08:07Speaker 03

And then you're chilling, and I... Like, the sex cults don't... Like, the Wild Wild Country, I'm like, "Actually, sounds like a good time." Like, till it got bad.

• 1:08:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:14Speaker 03

Like, the first two years of a cult always sounds a little bit good, and then it goes out. But the first two years, if you can get out, if you could set your alarm two years, okay. Get out. You might actually have a good time for a year or two.

• 1:08:25Drew Afualo?

I said once on Caleb's show that I don't think I could ever be inducted into a cult, only because I refuse to suspend this belief in any way, shape, or form.

• 1:08:35Speaker 03

  Right.

• 1:08:36Drew Afualo?

So like, when... The minute someone tells me what to do, and I don't wanna do it, I'm like, "I'm leaving."

• 1:08:42Speaker 03

No, exactly. You have to be the leader. Like, you can't be hypnotized in this same way.

• 1:08:46Drew Afualo?

Exactly. Like, 'cause I'm like, "What if I don't want to?"

• 1:08:48Speaker 03

"What if it doesn't work? It's not gonna work." I'm thinking, I'm thinking, my eyes are closed, okay, I'm still thinking. You know? Like, I'm just like, I can't get it.

• 1:08:55Drew Afualo?

Yeah, 'cause I've been to church camp a couple times.

• 1:08:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:08:58Drew Afualo?

And in church camp, I really did feel... I felt performative, in some regards. 'Cause I was like, I just feel like I'm copying what everybody else is doing.

• 1:09:07Speaker 03

Oh, 100%. I went to a Jewish camp, which was very fun, except... But the summer kind.

• 1:09:15Speaker 03

And, um, for any elderly Jews listening to the program.

• 1:09:21Speaker 03

And we had to fast um on Tuvishvah uh uh Tishabav and or Tuvishvah? I can't remember which one it was now, Tishabav I think. And you had to fast, but the only reason I fasted, you didn't have to fast, but if you were fasting, you got to watch movies in the rec room all day.

• 1:09:46Speaker 03

So there I am, giving up food to watch movies. And you got to go to the break fast, which was like a huge meal.

• 1:09:53Drew Afualo?

  Oh, nice.

• 1:09:54Speaker 03

You know, so I was like, but it took everything out of me, but it was like, it was just worth it. You know, because to get out of a day of activities.

• 1:10:02Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:10:02Speaker 03

You're just sitting in a sleeping bag, watching movies and like, oh, let's go.

• 1:10:07Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that does sound a lot better. I feel like even when I said it on Caleb's, like, obviously I was joking around, but I was being kind of serious, but I said, I just feel like I'm too smart, like.

• 1:10:16Speaker 03

  Of course.

• 1:10:16Drew Afualo?

If some like small white guy like tells me he's the Messiah, like, I don't believe you.

• 1:10:22Speaker 03

  No, exactly.

• 1:10:23Drew Afualo?

  I don't believe you.

• 1:10:23Speaker 03

No, exactly. None of them, like, it's the thing is, and I, I went through a theological quest most recently. I mean, I read, my mother is, you know, has taken Jesus into her heart. She considers herself a Jew for Jesus now. Um, so I wanted to read the New Testament because I had only read the Old Testament. And then I wanted to read the Quran because these are the three most influential books, basically on the planet.

• 1:10:48Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:10:49Speaker 03

And all of them I'm reading, and it's exactly as you say, it's like, first of all, all of them say, this is the truth. This is the truth and this is proof. None of it is, like, I feel like we don't even know what proof is. Like, I'm like, no, it's not proof.

• 1:11:02Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:11:02Speaker 03

Okay, just because it's been recalled person to person for hundreds of years, that's not proof to me.

• 1:11:07Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:11:08Speaker 03

  There isn't any definite.

• 1:11:10Drew Afualo?

  Proof.

• 1:11:11Speaker 03

  Proof.

• 1:11:11Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:11:11Speaker 03

And the narratives are so specific that I'm like, okay, I can understand there's something greater. We don't know about.

• 1:11:18Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:11:18Speaker 03

Okay, we're part of something larger, but to tell me, this guy's brother was his nephews of God of this and then the one. Bro, this is too, man, it's too detailed, the story.

• 1:11:30Speaker 03

It's too, we need to like end on a general.

• 1:11:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:34Speaker 03

Okay, I can, because you asked me to believe like the particularities of he lived, you know, and this, it's like, okay. Like, and maybe, you know, I, I, yeah, so it's tough. I, but I have a general belief.

• 1:11:47Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 1:11:48Speaker 03

Of something and, and not much more. That said, I still like, you know, try, I liked reading everything to know where all these ideas, but there's no women involved. There's no.

• 1:11:57Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:11:58Speaker 03

Um, and I think those books suited those times and, and great. And, um.

• 1:12:04Drew Afualo?

I agree with you. I think that's fair. I feel pretty agnostic, honestly. I do believe in like, I believe more so, I think in energy. I believe in karma.

• 1:12:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:12:13Drew Afualo?

Right. I believe in like, I, I feel more spiritual than I do religious.

• 1:12:16Speaker 03

Yeah, I feel more spiritual too. And I, I, I think there's, to me, God encompasses all that. Like, I don't know if God is one thing, or it's just energies, or it's just an all.

• 1:12:25Drew Afualo?

  Or the universe.

• 1:12:26Speaker 03

Yeah. Um, I think there's, I believe more monotheistically than plural. I think we are part of one, even if it's huge, like the universe. I think that's all like kind of, you know, we're in one. But I don't, but I don't know. I, I just, my best answer I could say is, I don't know.

• 1:12:46Drew Afualo?

  Same.

• 1:12:47Speaker 03

When people say, I know, I go, really?

• 1:12:51Speaker 03

Like you could say, I believe, but I'm like, you know?

• 1:12:54Drew Afualo?

I think that too. I, I feel very like, I could go either way. That's why I thought being agnostic makes the most sense to me.

• 1:13:00Speaker 03

I would be lying if I said I knew.

• 1:13:01Drew Afualo?

Right. I agree with you. I think the same thing too. I also like, I had this talk with one of my friends the other day and I was saying like, what if? Like if we were just to use the Bible, for example, like new and old testament, whichever suits your fancy. Like what if the real test, like if there is a God.

• 1:13:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:17Drew Afualo?

What if the real test is how you choose to interpret slash implement that in your life? Like what if that is the test? Like.

• 1:13:25Speaker 03

  Right.

• 1:13:25Drew Afualo?

The test is not when you get up there, it's that. And it's not like it's one way or the other. It's how you live and walk in it, in your life.

• 1:13:31Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:32Drew Afualo?

And maybe that is the test. It's like really up to interpretation.

• 1:13:35Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:35Drew Afualo?

  Because it is so specific.

• 1:13:37Speaker 03

They, they, they made it up to, by the way, whether it's up to or not, we're interpreting it.

• 1:13:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:40Speaker 03

Because by the way, there's a lot of, there's a lot of questions.

• 1:13:43Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:13:44Speaker 03

Like, and you're not still talking to us.

• 1:13:46Drew Afualo?

  Right. I agree.

• 1:13:47Speaker 03

You know, there hasn't been a new Bible. Suddenly Bible stop.

• 1:13:52Drew Afualo?

  Two additions.

• 1:13:53Speaker 03

Why can't somebody write one in 2004? Like now, so it's like it had to come, but it hasn't been a new New Testament.

• 1:14:02Drew Afualo?

Mm-hmm. Not to account for all the new shit.

• 1:14:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:05Drew Afualo?

There was nothing about AI in that Bible, so.

• 1:14:07Speaker 03

No, but some people do claim that they're, they're, you know.

• 1:14:09Drew Afualo?

  There was.

• 1:14:10Speaker 03

Really, yeah, people stretch that like, oh, this person hinted at this and they said it would be in a land of this. So this, it's like, it's all, you have to believe a very specific web of narrative.

• 1:14:23Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:14:24Speaker 03

And you have to accept each piece and it's asking too much.

• 1:14:27Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:14:28Speaker 03

And honestly, if I get there and there's a God and he goes, why, you know, but honestly, I had doubts. I apologize. I did the best I could. Honestly, I didn't, the signs weren't loud enough to me. I know it seems crazy. Now that you're pointing out these signs, I didn't, I didn't believe them. I have to tell you, I'd be lying if I told you.

• 1:14:43Drew Afualo?

Kind of on you? Like make them bigger, make them louder.

• 1:14:46Speaker 03

  Literally talk to me.

• 1:14:47Drew Afualo?

  Just call me up.

• 1:14:48Speaker 03

Come in the bath. I don't care.

• 1:14:51Speaker 03

  You're always available to me.

• 1:14:52Drew Afualo?

  Whenever.

• 1:14:53Speaker 03

Yeah, because I told my mother this with Jesus. I said, Ma, I am ready to be, I would love to be saved. Nobody wants to be saved more than me. He can come to me at any point. At any, Jesus, I am avail, come talk. I don't, I love, I love to be saved.

• 1:15:12Speaker 03

Like, why is he, he's talked to my mother. He's not, I said, Ma, the dude hasn't approached me.

• 1:15:16Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, just call me up.

• 1:15:17Speaker 03

He does not talk to me. I love that he's come to you. He's helped you. He's zero. I don't think he likes me.

• 1:15:24Drew Afualo?

I know, yeah. I've, and maybe that's our cross to bear, honestly. Maybe that's, maybe that's what's in the stars for us.

• 1:15:30Speaker 03

Jesus, if you're listening to this podcast, and you should be, it's a, it's a very good conversation. Um, I'm available.

• 1:15:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm open. I might have some, I might have some openings next week. Let me know.

• 1:15:42Speaker 03

  Literally.

• 1:15:43Drew Afualo?

Back to our, our fun facts about you. Uh, it says you used to be a writer for a children's show called The Odd Squad.

• 1:15:50Speaker 03

  That's correct.

• 1:15:51Drew Afualo?

About an organization run by kids who solve problems using math skills and you won an Emmy for writing the show.

• 1:15:56Speaker 03

  That's correct.

• 1:15:57Drew Afualo?

And how was it writing on a kids' show?

• 1:15:59Speaker 03

It was wonderful. Um, it's where I started writing. So that's the job that I got after I wrote my thing.

• 1:16:04Drew Afualo?

And pretended to be a courier.

• 1:16:06Speaker 03

Yeah, it, it got me representation and my goal at that point was to leave my accounting job, but for something stable. I wasn't going to leave for like a three week job or whatever. So when they called me, they said, well, we have a job. It's more stable. It's at least six months. Which felt good to me at the time to have like, you know, my sisters always had like have six months or three months emergency fund.

• 1:16:27Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:27Speaker 03

  Right?

• 1:16:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:28Speaker 03

So at the time I was thinking that was good.

• 1:16:32Speaker 03

A six month starting contract, but it's kids. It's live action, it's PBS. And I said, I don't, you know what? I never got to go to film school or anything. I'll take it. And I was never in a writer's room. I was never anything. So I started as a writer's assistant and I ended up, you know, they ended up promoting me at every way. I became a writer on the show. And even though we didn't do sex or profanity, we still told stories.

• 1:16:57Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:57Speaker 03

With characters and I learned how to write a script. We did eighty scripts a, a, a, um, a season. Eighty, eleven minutes. And it's like, I learned how to trim fat, how to become a writer. And I learned, I was on set. And I learned how to deal with art department and everything. And they promoted me and became a writer. And it was really my film school. Ended up being there for three and a half years. Um, and it really was my film school.

• 1:17:20Drew Afualo?

That is really cool though. Like, that's like in the field experience.

• 1:17:24Speaker 03

That's what I'm saying. It's like I never, you know, when I went to school for accounting, it's because I got into school and I couldn't have, I was like, well, I had, what's the least amount of school I could do for the most amount of payoff? And they said, if you go into accounting, they can give you a job this summer. So I was like, oh my God. And they were like, and, and that company gave me a laptop, which I had been doing university without a laptop. Which most, a lot of people did have a laptop, but I was like, and I was probably gonna try and buy one at some point, but I'm like, oh my God, hired. Like, I was so grateful to the co- I'm like, this is the best decision you ever made. I don't know what's going on with accounting, but I'm gonna try and figure it out.

• 1:18:02Speaker 03

The three years that I worked as the, at the accounting firm, shout out to KPMG, I really had no clue what I was doing. And I would constantly call my friends and be like, I truly don't understand. What I have to do today at work. Like, I would just, I couldn't.

• 1:18:16Drew Afualo?

  Imagine that was your accountant.

• 1:18:18Speaker 03

  Yeah, no, literally.

• 1:18:19Drew Afualo?

  Figuring it out, though.

• 1:18:20Speaker 03

Yeah, literally. Well, thank God I was a junior and they have a lot of like train, like they know that you don't really know what you're doing for a while. But I really like felt like I don't like I would go to my boss, say, like, I have nothing done. Like, this is what I think. Like, and they would just have to do my work for me.

• 1:18:37Drew Afualo?

I don't know what this is.

• 1:18:39Speaker 03

That, like, literally. And I remember calling my friend who was at another accounting firm, because we all got these jobs out of school from that program. And I was like, do you know what you're doing? Like, I feel like I just pretend all day long. Like, we're not creating anything. We're not writing anything. We're not enforcing the law. We're not like the police. Like, we're not the fire department. Like, we literally shuffle or explain things. Like, I just, I was losing my mind at what we were even doing.

• 1:19:09Drew Afualo?

And you still don't know what it was?

• 1:19:12Speaker 03

No, but except that I was paid every two weeks. I appreciated the supplies and it was a great job.

• 1:19:18Drew Afualo?

When I was in college, one of the first jobs I had was like an assistant to like a media relations person for sports. So like, I was just a secretary more than anything. But like, I did lie significantly on my resume about things I could do.

• 1:19:33Speaker 03

  Of course.

• 1:19:33Drew Afualo?

And so those were the only jobs he gave me. And I, every day, I was like, it's anyone's guess. It's anyone's guess what I'm doing.

• 1:19:42Speaker 03

It's such a scary position to be in. I remember those positions. It's like, yeah, I can fuck with that stuff.

• 1:19:46Drew Afualo?

And I was also getting paid well, too, for the time, because I had no money. So like, for the time, I was like...

• 1:19:49Speaker 03

Yeah, no, it's all about the money. It really is.

• 1:19:54Drew Afualo?

And sometimes, like, one of the things I lied about was knowing how to, like, you know when you say I'm proficient in Adobe Suite?

• 1:20:00Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:20:01Drew Afualo?

I thought that just meant, I generally know about Adobe programs. I didn't know that meant I was ma- I mastered all of them, and there are way more than I thought. I thought it was just Photoshop at the time.

• 1:20:12Speaker 03

I thought it was PDF. You're talking and I'm like, I can open a PDF. I can convert a document to a PDF.

• 1:20:18Drew Afualo?

Photoshop and Adobe PDF, that was all I really knew. But there is one in there called InDesign, which like, to this day, I still don't fucking know. Maybe magazines, I think is what it, I have no clue. But it's like very specific programming to lay out stuff. And he would ask me to like, make like, record books like, for the university. Like, these are things that are important. And he was like, need you to type all of these records and put them in InDesign. Girl, it's anyone's guess what I was doing.

• 1:20:44Speaker 03

So what did you tell him? Like, you were in a very scary position.

• 1:20:46Drew Afualo?

I just said, okay. And then I was literally just like, pressing buttons and hoping it worked out. And then like, I did kind of figure it out. But sometimes when he would look at my work, he would be like, there's all these like, weird gaps and spaces. I'm like, yeah, that's crazy. I don't know why that is. And it's because I didn't know how to go from the top line to the next line. Cause it didn't work when you press Enter. So I would just hold the spacebar down a million times until it got there.

• 1:21:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:21:10Drew Afualo?

And then he's like, there's so many spaces. I'm like, that's crazy. I don't know why that is. That's nuts.

• 1:21:15Speaker 03

That's, that's exactly what I did, even like, for the script that I printed out at work, to hand out. I looked up like, what format scripts are in, and it's in Final Draft, it's in that weird fucked up, if you've seen a script, the font. And I'm like, what kind of a fucked up, cause I wrote it in Word. So, then I looked up this program, it was like, $5.99.

• 1:21:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:33Speaker 03

USD. I'm like, are they mental? That they think we have $500? Like, and you could, but I found the font, I painstakingly went through Word. And I went through all their fonts. And I'm like, it's Courier!

• 1:21:48Drew Afualo?

  Courier New?

• 1:21:49Speaker 03

Yeah, so, so I used the Courier. It was exact same font of this, and then the spacing, you can ima, it, it drives a person to the brink. I'm surprised I'm here today to tell the tale, because you could, you could really commit, you know?

• 1:22:01Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:22:02Speaker 03

I did the spacing in Word, the characters, like, all, what you can do with the spacebar. Shout out to the spacebar.

• 1:22:10Drew Afualo?

Shout out to the spacebar, for real. I agree.

• 1:22:12Speaker 03

The space bar, it, it honestly could be bigger. It deserves all the room on the keyboard it has.

• 1:22:19Drew Afualo?

I agree. That's all I used was that space bar. I was just, yeah, I don't know. That's crazy. And I would like to think in most jobs I had before this, when I was a personality hire too, like I was.

• 1:22:29Speaker 03

  Of course.

• 1:22:30Drew Afualo?

That was part of it. That was a huge part of it, I would say.

• 1:22:32Speaker 03

I was, yeah, we were all, I, at the accounting firm, they just knew I'd be a good chat. I got onto good files. I got to like, go travel and they're like, but you're like the worst junior. And I'm like, but I always, you know, I'll have a drink with the partner. What do I care?

• 1:22:46Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:47Speaker 03

You know, I'm talking to him. I'm like, ooh, that is a nice tie.

• 1:22:50Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:51Speaker 03

You know, and the partner, he's doing all the work, but it's like, they're not counting on me for major, but, but they're, they're asking us to lie. It's like, I remember applying to a shoe store in Eaton Center in Montreal, Transit. It was like, it was like an Aldo or a shoe store like that. And they said, well, do you have any experience? I said, bitch, where do you want me to start?

• 1:23:09Drew Afualo?

  Doing what?

• 1:23:10Speaker 03

I'm seventeen and this is like, the freaking payless. Like, what do you?

• 1:23:14Drew Afualo?

Do I have experience wearing shoes? Yeah.

• 1:23:16Speaker 03

  It's like, no.

• 1:23:17Drew Afualo?

  Give me the job.

• 1:23:18Speaker 03

So it's like they ask us to lie in our early jobs.

• 1:23:21Drew Afualo?

That's true. And I, and I had that job at seventeen too. So I was like, that's kind of on you to ask me to do something that imperative. And I'm seventeen. That kind of seems like it's your fault.

• 1:23:29Speaker 03

You know what? It was a good foundation for you.

• 1:23:31Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I think so. I absolutely, well, one of the jobs I had before I worked in, cause I worked for the NFL for a tiny bit before I started doing this. But before that, I worked with my mom and, uh, PR, public relations. But I would like, give out information about, the, the long and short of it is I would tell people when their commute was going to be terrible for like the next twenty years. And then I'd just say like, do you want to get emails about it? And then I would just get screamed at on porches for most of it. So I was thinking like, at one point I was like, I mean, I'm in the too small polo on your step. Like, I, I'm not making the decisions. Like, believe it or not, I hate the freeway too.

• 1:24:10Speaker 03

Wait, why is there? Root gonna be, what happened?

• 1:24:14Drew Afualo?

It was like varying things, like when the 405 was being revamped and stuff.

• 1:24:17Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 1:24:18Drew Afualo?

Um, they have to do a whole bunch of things, like they have to do like drilling and like.

• 1:24:22Speaker 03

  Oh my god.

• 1:24:23Drew Afualo?

So there's like dirt piles of dirt being blown in your yard and like.

• 1:24:27Speaker 03

And you have to tell these people.

• 1:24:29Drew Afualo?

I have to let them know. I have to go door to door.

• 1:24:31Speaker 03

That is one of the worst jobs I've heard about.

• 1:24:33Drew Afualo?

Just getting screamed at about like.

• 1:24:35Speaker 03

No, you're lucky to be alive.

• 1:24:36Drew Afualo?

Really, like the worst things you can imagine, which is in people's everyday life would be like a commute. Right? And like the summer. So I would be like, yeah, it's gonna be drilling all night from 10pm to 5am. Um, do you want to get emails about the drilling? And they'd be like, what do you mean drilling?

• 1:24:52Speaker 03

And we don't, these people don't have a chance to move. There's no.

• 1:24:55Drew Afualo?

It's just like, it's just letting you know, by the way, which like, yeah, that would piss anybody off. Um, unfortunately, I'm 22, so like, and I have like no experience and or interest in giving you this information. I'm kind of just here. I'm here so I don't get fined. That was kind of my vibe.

• 1:25:12Speaker 03

No, we had such bad jobs, eh, when you think about it.

• 1:25:16Drew Afualo?

It wasn't gonna work out for us.

• 1:25:17Speaker 03

When I, I worked at McDonald's and um, I was very lazy. My friend Shanee and I actually worked at McDonald's. And we had the shift from 12 to 8, because if you work 12 to 8, you could sleep in, go out. And like 12 to 8 was like kind of perfect.

• 1:25:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:33Speaker 03

But one day I came in and our fries were running low. I came in for the lunch rush. That was my first shift of the day. But the fry box is like 80 pounds. It's in a freezer that you could get locked into, which I, again, I like room temperature. I don't go in that fridge. I told them in training, I said, I don't fuck with that fridge. Okay, this Jew is not getting into that fridge and getting stuck in that fridge and freezing to death. I won't burn to death, death in an oven and I will not freeze in a fridge.

• 1:26:03Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:26:03Speaker 03

And I'm also not carrying a 70 pound frozen. So I would wait, the manager normally always brought up the fries, but he was late that day. So by the time he came, there was like chaos at the McDonald's because I was telling people we had our fries, but I could offer them um, apple pies.

• 1:26:17Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:26:17Speaker 03

It's like they fucking want fries. You know, so it was just.

• 1:26:23Drew Afualo?

  A rough shift for you.

• 1:26:25Speaker 03

  Yeah, I was just like, I can't.

• 1:26:26Drew Afualo?

I never worked fast food. I did work in a restaurant and that was awful, but I didn't ever work.

• 1:26:31Speaker 03

Fast food was so good. First of all, the job went fast. I mean, it was a bad job, obviously. But the food was delicious and I ate at McDonald's every day. And I always, growing up, wanted McDonald's. So by this time, I wasn't kosher.

• 1:26:43Drew Afualo?

  That was your dream.

• 1:26:43Speaker 03

  And honestly, it was amazing.

• 1:26:45Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:26:45Speaker 03

I don't recommend it, but I pay, we got half off of food. So it was a really helpful job to have. Not really think about food for the summer.

• 1:26:54Drew Afualo?

That is nice. My, my, my staff meal was like my favorite part of my shift.

• 1:26:59Speaker 03

  It's the best.

• 1:26:59Drew Afualo?

I would get to, because the cooks, like, again, I'm a personality hire. So like, I would make friends with everybody.

• 1:27:04Speaker 03

  Of course.

• 1:27:05Drew Afualo?

And so the cooks would make me stuff that wasn't on the staff menu that night, but they just were really rocking with me.

• 1:27:10Speaker 03

  It's the best.

• 1:27:11Drew Afualo?

And, but I did get fired from that job. So that is kind of a bummer.

• 1:27:14Speaker 03

  Of course.

• 1:27:14Drew Afualo?

But the day I got fired, I was training, uh, I didn't know at the time, but he was a meth head and I didn't know that at the time. But when I did find out he was smoking meth on the job, I was like, okay, I'm going to make sure I tell the manager like, well, I don't know if you ought to hire him. He does meth on the job.

• 1:27:28Speaker 03

Right. See, maybe you have, you don't have a good, uh, methdar, meth radar.

• 1:27:34Drew Afualo?

  Like radar, yeah.

• 1:27:34Speaker 03

Yeah, because maybe you were in Denver and there were meth heads around you, but you didn't now.

• 1:27:38Drew Afualo?

  Who knows?

• 1:27:39Speaker 03

Is that a button? Is that a button you see?

• 1:27:43Drew Afualo?

Meth head, meth head button. I think like, and I only knew because, well, I should have known because he was, he was kind of skittish, but like, he just kept leaving in the middle of the shift. And then one day I did follow him, like, or one time he left, I followed him to the bathroom to like, knock on the door and be like, hey dude, you gotta come back out here.

• 1:27:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:28:00Drew Afualo?

Um, and I heard a lighter, like flicking. And like Lil Wayne song. And then I heard the bubbles, like bubbling and I was like.

• 1:28:07Speaker 03

See, I don't know what meth is.

• 1:28:09Drew Afualo?

I don't know what it is. I just know what it sounds and looks like.

• 1:28:12Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:28:12Drew Afualo?

I, I got a good idea, I think. But then when the manager like took me out back, he's like, oh, I, I want to talk to you. And I was like, oh, it's probably about the trainee. I gotta let it, I gotta break the news that he's a meth head. And then he basically was like, so basically, uh, you're fired and you're moving to on-call and he, the guy you trained today is going to replace you and he's going to take all your shifts. And he said, do you have any questions for me or anything you want to say? And then I was like, nope. So I just didn't tell him. And then they found out, they found out the hard way that he was a method.

• 1:28:40Speaker 03

  Perfect.

• 1:28:41Drew Afualo?

Yeah, karma. That's what I believe in.

• 1:28:43Speaker 03

Perfect. I, yeah, no, I believe in all of it. And there's also, by the way, we talked about believing what we believe in and what we don't believe in. That said, speaking of, speaking of, there's nothing I don't believe in. I know it seems like, okay, I only, there's nothing I don't believe, I believe these are all possibilities. You know, I also think that like, you know, it's as crazy that I'm here on this planet, that there would be an afterlife, that there would be like, to me, I'm not plugged into a wall, I don't wear batteries, like, it's ama, it's, this is as, as outstanding and, and unbelievable as that there would be. My, like, all of it I believe in, I'm just open to everything, I think these are all like possibilities, I can't say that I know.

• 1:29:21Drew Afualo?

That's true. I believe you, I'm with you. I like also, I like being right all the time too, so sometimes I like to keep all my options open.

• 1:29:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:29:30Drew Afualo?

So either way, I can be like, I knew it.

• 1:29:32Speaker 03

No, I would get there and be like, listen, I thought it was possible, I was just, I was not, you know, I would, if you want me to lie to you, I'd say, I know, I believe, but, but I can't lie and say I believe, like, I don't know.

• 1:29:44Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I don't either. I guess we'll find out together, eventually. Okay, last fun fact, you've just been nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in the comedy series for your role on Hacks.

• 1:29:56Speaker 03

  It's insane, it's the world's smallest part.

• 1:29:58Drew Afualo?

  Congratulations.

• 1:29:59Speaker 03

It's the world's, the world's smallest part, when they call me, they're like.

• 1:30:02Drew Afualo?

And you still got Emmy nominated, so that's all that matters.

• 1:30:04Speaker 03

  It's crazy.

• 1:30:05Drew Afualo?

  Congratulations.

• 1:30:06Speaker 03

  Thank you so much.

• 1:30:07Drew Afualo?

That's so incredible. How has it been working on Hacks?

• 1:30:09Speaker 03

Really fun, like, just such a fun, I mean, I got to go in, you know, do a version of myself, they let me do whatever I want with the character, they were great. Yeah, when they called me, they're like, you were nominated for an Emmy when my man, I was like, for what? Because, yeah, it was, it was not a big part, but it was a really fun part.

• 1:30:30Drew Afualo?

Yeah, clearly it was a very impactful part, because you got nominated for an Emmy.

• 1:30:34Speaker 03

You know what, I resonated, I'm a silver screen darling, what can I say? What can I say? No, I think my character too on the show, she's, you know, she's, Hacks for the People, she's really just a very. I don't know, Hacks felt like such a, maybe it's like a very inside baseball Hollywood thing and then

• 1:30:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:30:53Speaker 03

Randy was just off the bus of the people into that world. So I think it, I think maybe that's what, like Randy's as surprised as I am surprised as everyone. It's like, it, it just feels like really good vibes.

• 1:31:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:06Speaker 03

You know, it was a small character, but people enjoyed it and sometimes it's just about fun.

• 1:31:12Drew Afualo?

Amazing. It's a huge accomplishment. That's so incredible. I'm so happy for you.

• 1:31:16Speaker 03

Very excited. I don't know what to wear. I'll figure it out. Lesbians is difficult, so we're looking into it. Yeah, we're looking into it. I'm gonna go shopping on Saturday. We'll see if I can find something.

• 1:31:26Drew Afualo?

  I'm rooting for you.

• 1:31:26Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 1:31:27Drew Afualo?

I bet you can. Something Emmy worthy. Well, I think all of it will work cause you're in it.

• 1:31:31Speaker 03

  I know. Okay, okay.

• 1:31:32Drew Afualo?

  I believe in you.

• 1:31:33Speaker 03

I already have shoes, so it's my same shoes.

• 1:31:37Drew Afualo?

  It's just my shoes.

• 1:31:38Speaker 03

Yeah, no, no, I have shoes that I wear to everything, so I really just have to find a shirt and pants and ma- like, I don't know if I'm gonna do jacket, like it just seems too gay, but maybe I will. I don't know, I'd rather.

• 1:31:49Drew Afualo?

Maybe it's the perfect amount of gay, a jacket.

• 1:31:52Speaker 03

You think people know I'm gay? I just don't want to look too gay. Do I look gay?

• 1:31:59Drew Afualo?

  I think so.

• 1:31:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:32:00Drew Afualo?

Yeah, in my, in my humble opinion, I would say so. Well, congratulations. I think you're so incredible and so funny.

• 1:32:06Speaker 03

Thank you so much. I do think that about you now too.

• 1:32:08Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 1:32:09Speaker 03

I had no idea what to expect. Adore you.

• 1:32:11Drew Afualo?

  Oh, thank you.

• 1:32:12Speaker 03

And I'm a very, either I like her or I don't, you know what I mean? I don't need to know more.

• 1:32:15Drew Afualo?

  I gathered that about you.

• 1:32:16Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So now it's like, forever if your name comes up, wonderful. Excellent. Still waiting for her to send me to Samoan restaurant. I'd love to try, I'd love to try the rice and meat. But who knows?

• 1:32:31Drew Afualo?

I think that's wonderful, but I do, to wrap us, I would love to know if you have any advice for any aspiring artists, whether they're writers or standups, actors, anything in between. You happen to be a jack of all trades, but if you have any advice for them, if they're getting into the industry or interested in getting into the industry.

• 1:32:47Speaker 03

Uh, none. None. No advice and um, if you're looking to me for advice or somebody else, you already, you're out. Like you can't, you have to.

• 1:32:58Drew Afualo?

That's a piece of advice in and of itself. I think that's wonderful.

• 1:33:00Speaker 03

If, if you're not sure, if you're not, like you're out.

• 1:33:05Speaker 03

You know what I mean? We weren't, were you asking for people advice? Like you were just kind of doing your thing. You just knew you.

• 1:33:11Drew Afualo?

Yeah. That's why I said you're my hero. You're my north star.

• 1:33:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:33:14Drew Afualo?

When I heard how you were moving, I said, damn, I gotta, I gotta step my game up.

• 1:33:17Speaker 03

I gotta get that tour bus meanwhile.

• 1:33:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:19Speaker 03

We're both learning a lot from each other. Ooh, I gotta get that bus off these flights.

• 1:33:24Drew Afualo?

A bus and then the name of the Simone food restaurant.

• 1:33:26Speaker 03

That, that Gab and I actually need.

• 1:33:29Drew Afualo?

Oh, we're always looking for new food. Yeah, I remember the name loosely. I'll have to look it up, but thank you so much.

• 1:33:34Speaker 03

Especially if it's fast, the kind of place we can go to a lot. I love that.

• 1:33:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you can go pick it up, take it home.

• 1:33:38Speaker 03

There's no good lunch in LA. It's very hard to find a fast lunch in LA.

• 1:33:42Drew Afualo?

I do love, yeah, that is so true. They're all sit downs.

• 1:33:44Speaker 03

Like in New York, you can grab a sandwich, you can grab a, like here, there's no lunch.

• 1:33:48Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I need fast lunch. I get it.

• 1:33:50Speaker 03
