Hey, can you come pick me up? Yeah, what's wrong? Nothing. Are you sure? Yeah, no, I just need a ride. Ride, ride. Oh, my God. So what? I just wanna have fun. Start your engine. Tiger.

• 0:30Benito Skinner?

  I'm Benito Skinner.

• 0:31Mary Beth Barone?

  I'm Mary Beth Brown.

• 0:33Benito Skinner?

  And this.

• 0:33Mary Beth Barone?

  Is.

• 0:34Benito Skinner?

  Ride.

• 0:38Mary Beth Barone?

Morning. We're gonna do morning again.

• 0:40Benito Skinner?

Imagine just how like, how moved on everyone will be. I think that's why Ride is so special to me.

• 0:47Mary Beth Barone?

We're not, we haven't moved on yet.

• 0:48Benito Skinner?

Come on, you guys are tastemakers. You should be on the pulse. And we go, no.

• 0:52Mary Beth Barone?

No, we'll never be on the pulse.

• 0:53Benito Skinner?

No, today, we're talking about Interstellar.

• 0:56Mary Beth Barone?

Today, we're gonna talk about Interstellar. And how love is the most powerful thing in the universe.

• 1:00Benito Skinner?

Do you think it is? Whoosh. Do you really think it is?

• 1:03Mary Beth Barone?

  I do, I do.

• 1:03Benito Skinner?

I do too. I completely do.

• 1:04Mary Beth Barone?

But it's just really hard right now.

• 1:06Benito Skinner?

It reminds me of something I would like to talk to you about. I just did it for you and you go, is that a TikTok thing? And I'm so, I'm so proud to report, it's actually not.

• 1:14Mary Beth Barone?

  It's not.

• 1:14Benito Skinner?

This is from a film so recently, because I'm so excited for Greta Gerwig's Narnia, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

• 1:23Mary Beth Barone?

  The Wardrobe.

• 1:24Benito Skinner?

Which just, oh my God, fabulous film. Tilda Swinton is like absolutely breathtaking in it. Her costumes are insane. The costume design for that.

• 1:31Mary Beth Barone?

  Never seen it.

• 1:32Benito Skinner?

Oh, it's shocking. You should watch it.

• 1:33Mary Beth Barone?

  I should.

• 1:34Benito Skinner?

I will say at times, because of these weird TVs that exist, it does look like it's so green screen. Also, I, I was watching Fleabag. I rewatched Fleabag. Oh my God.

• 1:43Mary Beth Barone?

  Okay, copy me much?

• 1:45Benito Skinner?

No, I'm like so obsessed with every movie you make. It's like every time I watch it, I'm reminded like just how good it is. The part where she says hi to her sister, her sister's like the guy she loves, and then to the camera, hi Claire, hi Claire, hi Claire. And that's just like, she's just.

• 2:01Mary Beth Barone?

  It's so genius.

• 2:02Benito Skinner?

  I miss her.

• 2:02Mary Beth Barone?

  I, I miss her too.

• 2:03Benito Skinner?

  Phoebe.

• 2:04Mary Beth Barone?

If you're listening, we miss you, girl.

• 2:06Benito Skinner?

It's very like when Gotham really needed Batman. It'd be a good time for you to come home now. Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

• 2:11Mary Beth Barone?

  Please.

• 2:11Benito Skinner?

We need you, girl. Please. So I'm watching Narnia. And this girl, the young girl, I think her name is Lucy in it. Santa pops out of nowhere. He makes this crazy cameo in The Chronicles of Narnia. And is kind of like, okay, miss.

• 2:25Mary Beth Barone?

It's like when Einstein's in Oppenheimer.

• 2:27Benito Skinner?

Exactly. I'm like, oh shit. Okay, so now it's the real world. Cause I know, you know, you won't let me talk about him.

• 2:35Mary Beth Barone?

I won't let you talk about Santa.

• 2:36Benito Skinner?

No. So the young girl just goes, I thought there wasn't Christmas in Narnia. And I couldn't stop saying it in a way that it's ruining my relationships. But everyone does laugh when I do it, like the people around me. I just can't believe I haven't done it to you yet.

• 2:51Mary Beth Barone?

You haven't, but I also feel like it's more seasonal. Like this should be, you know, a November, December situation.

• 2:57Benito Skinner?

No, see, that's just not how it's gonna work for me. It's gonna be when I see Narnia, it's just gonna happen. So this was just kind of immediate and I had to get it out there. So to anyone who wants to try this, just look deadpan in a mirror and go, I thought there wasn't Christmas in Narnia.

• 3:09Mary Beth Barone?

  And then go, morning. Morning.

• 3:13Benito Skinner?

Car plug. Car plug is now in two episodes of Ratt.

• 3:17Mary Beth Barone?

  Two episodes.

• 3:17Benito Skinner?

I'm good. That'll be enough. Sorry, you guys. I really don't.

• 3:20Mary Beth Barone?

  You say that now.

• 3:21Benito Skinner?

I don't think they're gonna fuck with it. I'm scared for my kids.

• 3:25Mary Beth Barone?

We always think that. Give them a chance to surprise you.

• 3:28Benito Skinner?

I know. When I'm Gwan is not at the level I thought it'd be.

• 3:31Mary Beth Barone?

We haven't really talked about politics in a while and I just need, I need to speak on it briefly.

• 3:36Benito Skinner?

I'm so, please, the floor is yours.

• 3:37Mary Beth Barone?

Cause we're very, it's like, it's really scary right now than here at the Geneva Convention.

• 3:41Benito Skinner?

Convention. We love you here in Switzerland. I live here.

• 3:44Mary Beth Barone?

This is long, by the way. What I'm about to say is long. I wrote it down because I get flustered when I talk about it and then I end up not really saying the things that I wanna say.

• 3:52Benito Skinner?

I think more people should have full statements, like written statements. We should be able to just do that.

• 3:57Mary Beth Barone?

  Written or spoken.

• 3:57Benito Skinner?

I had that thought when I was listening to a few, like, you know, like wedding speeches? When someone just kind of goes off the dome, I'm like, I don't know if that's what that's for.

• 4:04Mary Beth Barone?

No, it's not time for that. You should plan it, have some respect.

• 4:07Benito Skinner?

  Paper even.

• 4:08Mary Beth Barone?

Paper. I do prefer to paper to phone, but right now I'm reading off my phone.

• 4:11Benito Skinner?

  Hey, no worries.

• 4:12Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't have a printer.

• 4:13Benito Skinner?

No worries. We'll blur it in post.

• 4:15Mary Beth Barone?

Studio. Yeah, please do. I'm noticing, I mean, we're all noticing that some establishment Democrats aren't endorsing Zerran M'Amdani for mayor, even though he won the primary by a lot and voters really love him. And now I'm seeing that Kamala has a book coming out about losing the election. So I need to talk about some of these things. It's really bothering me.

• 4:35Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 4:35Mary Beth Barone?

So I'm just wondering how many Democrats have to lose before the leaders of this party will sort of wake up to what's going on.

• 4:43Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 4:43Mary Beth Barone?

Because we don't really want centrist candidates. We don't want weak policies. We don't want bullshit. We want progressive candidates.

• 4:51Benito Skinner?

  Change, baby.

• 4:52Mary Beth Barone?

Change, who are willing to stand up for the working class, fight for the LGBTQ plus community, preserve democracy. It's very basic things that we're asking of our party. And we are slipping into fascism right now and people are scared. So we were told time and time again that 2024 was the most important election of our lifetime, that democracy was on the line, the stakes could not have been higher. The stakes couldn't have been higher.

• 5:15Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 5:16Mary Beth Barone?

We knew exactly what the Republicans planned to do. They literally published it online. It was called Project 2025. And instead of giving us a progressive candidate with a clear platform, we got fan cams of Kamala at rallies set to Beyonce songs. I don't mind that. I love that as a concept.

• 5:30Benito Skinner?

Yeah, I love that with other things.

• 5:32Mary Beth Barone?

It within the world, totally world building.

• 5:35Benito Skinner?

  Yes, of course.

• 5:35Mary Beth Barone?

But then she's going on interviews talking about how she supports fracking. No, we can't do that again. And people are literally dying as a result.

• 5:43Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 5:43Mary Beth Barone?

Lives are being lost and they will continue to be lost directly because of Democrats incompetence. So I need to just say that as a baseline. So then we have Donald Trump, who's sending the National Guard into our cities. He's redrawing congressional maps. And I love that Gavin Newsom is doing something, governor of California.

• 5:59Benito Skinner?

He did do a fan edit that I had to give it to him. Bitches couldn't get on my incline.

• 6:05Mary Beth Barone?

  But it has to be.

• 6:06Benito Skinner?

  He got me, okay?

• 6:07Mary Beth Barone?

And while he's doing fan cams, he's also trying to stand up to Donald Trump.

• 6:11Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 6:11Mary Beth Barone?

  And make a difference.

• 6:12Benito Skinner?

Yeah, he gets a handshake from me.

• 6:13Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally agree.

• 6:14Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 6:14Mary Beth Barone?

If he wants us to take him seriously as a presidential candidate, he needs to. Stop having right wing influencers on his podcast. That's just, again, bare minimum.

• 6:24Benito Skinner?

  To hear on his podcast.

• 6:25Mary Beth Barone?

  Basic principles.

• 6:26Benito Skinner?

  It's tough.

• 6:27Mary Beth Barone?

I don't think politicians need podcasts. We need you to govern, please.

• 6:30Benito Skinner?

  Please, God.

• 6:31Mary Beth Barone?

  Please govern.

• 6:32Benito Skinner?

Have you ever thought of integrity and standing for something?

• 6:34Mary Beth Barone?

  No.

• 6:35Benito Skinner?

Also, can you believe gay marriage is back on the old ticket?

• 6:37Mary Beth Barone?

  I can.

• 6:38Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 6:38Mary Beth Barone?

I can, because they told us they were gonna do that.

• 6:40Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 6:41Mary Beth Barone?

Zerron won the primary because he had a clear platform and he spoke directly to what voters care about. And he has answers when he's asked how he's actually gonna deliver on these things that he says he's gonna do. As Tyra Banks once said, "Learn something from this."

• 6:53Benito Skinner?

I have never in my life yelled at a girl like this.

• 6:55Mary Beth Barone?

I have never in my life yelled at a girl like this.

• 6:57Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 6:57Mary Beth Barone?

Okay? Your grandmother had her lights turned off to buy you a swimsuit for this competition. That's what I wanna say to Democrats right now.

• 7:03Benito Skinner?

  No, I know.

• 7:04Mary Beth Barone?

So stop trying to appeal to Republicans because they're never gonna vote for you.

• 7:07Benito Skinner?

  No, oh my God, no.

• 7:09Mary Beth Barone?

Nothing a Republican candidate can do is bad enough to lose. We literally have a rapist in the White House.

• 7:14Benito Skinner?

  Yeah, so...

• 7:15Mary Beth Barone?

We can't do lesser of two evils because that doesn't work. Because the most evil person won. So stop listening to these consultants who are telling you to appeal to the middle because after the last election, it's actually not even about winning Republican votes. It's about, you have to win back your own party. Your own party didn't vote for you. So if you are a Democratic elected official and you wanna take money from corrupt foreign governments, become a stand-up comedian and go perform at the Saudi Arabia Comedy Festival, stop pretending you give a damn about the people that you're supposed to be fighting for. That's what I have to say to our Democratic politicians right now. I'm so frustrated.

• 7:49Benito Skinner?

Well, I think it's just this idea of, this is what it's always been. Like, this is how we've done it in the past. And it's like, well, is it working? Because clearly there needs to be a change, because that's not working anymore.

• 7:58Mary Beth Barone?

  You didn't win, you lost.

• 7:59Benito Skinner?

And I understand that that used to work, but you've lost now. Baby girl, it's not working.

• 8:03Mary Beth Barone?

  It's not working.

• 8:04Benito Skinner?

  Change it.

• 8:04Mary Beth Barone?

  And people are dying.

• 8:05Benito Skinner?

  I know. I miss Bernie.

• 8:07Mary Beth Barone?

I miss Bernie too, and I'm really glad that he and AOC are out touring the country. Getting people excited to stand up to Algerki, but it's like, we also need good candidates. And I'm really excited because there's a guy in Maine who's running against Susan Collins, who I fucking hate.

• 8:19Benito Skinner?

  Oh yeah, he's an oysterman.

• 8:20Mary Beth Barone?

His name is Graham Plantner, I believe. Plattner, Plantner, I don't know. I don't know where the N is.

• 8:25Benito Skinner?

  And just like that.

• 8:28Mary Beth Barone?

He has a really great campaign video. I already donated to his campaign. I hate Susan Collins so much. I remember when she confirmed Brett Kavanaugh and I was just like, I'll never forgive you for that. And she's done countless other atrocities too. But I just hope that we can really show, I mean, Zerron is a case study, right? It was the most people that ever voted in a New York mayoral primary in history. And he won votes in groups that people said he would never win because of where he stands on these issues. And so I just have to wonder why these establishment Democrats, what's not clocking to you? What's not clocking to you?

• 9:01Benito Skinner?

It's just the past. It's living in the past and thinking that those things will still work when it's so clearly that they won't. I mean, it's, I think also it's something that I see so much in like all of, you know, kind of all of these things across the board, which is just a lack of people who are willing to lose based on what they actually believe in and fight for what they actually believe in. And that's where I'm just like, then why are you even doing it?

• 9:24Mary Beth Barone?

Why? Why are you doing it? Because would you rather take money from like a corrupt super PAC and lose? Or would you rather do a grassroots effort, get a bunch of people excited about what you stand for and win? I'm just, I'm so confused by not being able to pick between those two things. I really don't get it.

• 9:41Benito Skinner?

It's no integrity. It's so funny for like a progressive party that is feels so.

• 9:45Mary Beth Barone?

Well, they just failed us. They literally failed. They failed.

• 9:47Benito Skinner?

My favorite part of your hour is when you do pussy in a denim romper and then the sharp cut.

• 9:51Mary Beth Barone?

Don't say it. Don't say it. Don't say it.

• 9:53Benito Skinner?

There's a sharp cut that I let out a laugh at your live show in Montreal.

• 9:58Mary Beth Barone?

Well, I'm honestly, I'm so fed up and I just.

• 10:01Benito Skinner?

I love giving you the Senate floor. This is so fun. I'm just vibing by the way.

• 10:04Mary Beth Barone?

I really want to just speak to more of these candidates and people running for reelection because people are not going to get excited by a centrist, by a moderate. We're just not. And you think you're going to win over Republicans. You're not. If they wanted to, they would. They don't want to. They don't want to. Vote you in, they don't like you.

• 10:22Benito Skinner?

It's like, the joy would be if someone came in and gave us everything we wanted.

• 10:26Mary Beth Barone?

  Right.

• 10:27Benito Skinner?

So that's what we need to do.

• 10:28Mary Beth Barone?

  Right.

• 10:28Benito Skinner?

Because their side has done that for them.

• 10:30Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 10:30Benito Skinner?

Of like, oh, you want a fascist racist dictator who's a rapist?

• 10:33Mary Beth Barone?

  Here you go.

• 10:34Benito Skinner?

  Here you go.

• 10:35Mary Beth Barone?

Here's what I think too. If I looked at how hard each party is working and how strategically, you would think the Republicans were the ones fighting to protect people's rights and lives, and that the Democrats were just trying to make rich people richer. Based on how hard they're working, and it's insane to me that these Republicans, just fueled by like evil hatred and greed, are able to organize and rally their people behind them, and take over, take control of our government. We are, it's authoritarianism, it's fascism. And then we have the Democrats on the side just being like, hey, so yeah, we don't think fracking's that big of a deal. And like, people should have guns, maybe just like fewer guns. And then, yeah, I don't know, I guess like trans athletes, like they do kind of pose a threat. They don't, by the way.

• 11:16Benito Skinner?

  No.

• 11:16Mary Beth Barone?

Look at the science, listen to voters. Also, for what it's worth, there should already be a Democratic candidate who is making a play for president in a very clear way. Get the base excited, start listening to people now, do town halls, do all that bullshit. There should be one person that's so obviously gonna run and be our nominee, and there isn't yet. This is, it makes me crazy. Because this happened when Biden was in office. We should have been vetting someone, grooming someone to run from the day he stepped foot in the White House.

• 11:44Benito Skinner?

  Right fucking now.

• 11:45Mary Beth Barone?

But it's not happening. So anyway, I'm sorry to have to get serious for a minute, but I think we need to address that they're like, the National Guard being in cities is really scary. People are being ripped from their homes, they are, they are law abiding.

• 11:58Benito Skinner?

I was still in Los Angeles.

• 11:58Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh yeah.

• 11:59Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 11:59Mary Beth Barone?

They're law abiding, and they have no criminal record, and they're being literally ripped from their families when they show up to court to go through the due process, whatever, do it the right way, bullshit. So, this is crazy. Gay marriage is gonna be ruled upon by the Supreme Court again. I have to say, I think it's probably gonna get repealed, or overturned, or however they say.

• 12:18Benito Skinner?

I... If that happens, I it's really, it just, all of this feels so, it's dystopian, it's terrifying.

• 12:27Mary Beth Barone?

Also, painting over the crosswalk that was for the Pulse nightclub victim, I mean.

• 12:32Benito Skinner?

I talked about Dante's Inferno. I know the ring you'll be in, DeSantis.

• 12:36Mary Beth Barone?

  Ron DeSantis.

• 12:37Benito Skinner?

I'll see you. And it's the same ring Nancy fucking Reagan's in, that witch.

• 12:41Mary Beth Barone?

And Mitch McConnell will meet them there. Ted Cruz will meet them there. I know. They'll all be there.

• 12:46Benito Skinner?

Gotta let it burn. Fire, brimstone, I'm telling you. Because when I die, I know I'm gonna go to hell first to say hi to all of them.

• 12:54Mary Beth Barone?

  Flip them off.

• 12:54Benito Skinner?

Just to go, if I'm so fucking crazy.

• 12:57Mary Beth Barone?

  Then leave.

• 12:58Benito Skinner?

Oh, wait, you can't. You're down here forever. Say hi to Judas for me. Also, wait, Judas, I gotta talk to you.

• 13:04Mary Beth Barone?

Judas, let me tell you something real big. Get over here.

• 13:07Benito Skinner?

Judas, I need to show you a music video, cuz it's kinda crazy.

• 13:09Mary Beth Barone?

  It's kinda good.

• 13:10Benito Skinner?

Thank you so much for your address to the nation.

• 13:13Mary Beth Barone?

Thank you. That's my State of the Union, and I'm gonna make more politics for Hot People videos.

• 13:18Benito Skinner?

  Please do.

• 13:18Mary Beth Barone?

I have a date on the calendar in September. I'm gonna explain what a governor does. And I will always be posting about candidates that I think are exciting. But when I talk to someone who's more middle of the road, I will, of course, highlight that there is an election happening and that I think you should vote blue. But it's just harder and harder to get excited about people and make people excited when you're on the fence about some of these really important things.

• 13:39Benito Skinner?

I just wanna also remind people, cuz I think sometimes you can just see a graphic, but painting over the Rainbow Crosswalk at Pulse. So those queer people were just at a nightclub at a place where they felt safe and were slaughtered and were killed. It's such a level of evil, I think, and to have any kind of memorial for those people that the families can come to and feel like their memory lives on. It's such a violent level of evil.

• 14:06Mary Beth Barone?

  An erasure.

• 14:07Benito Skinner?

An erasure, that it's so, I just cannot believe these people can sleep at night and do something like that. Like, I just, that is so disgusting. And these things are happening everywhere. This is pure evil. Like, this is, you've taken something from these families. And this community that was terrorized and tortured, it was a terrorist act, to be clear. It's just so.

• 14:33Mary Beth Barone?

It's just, it's beyond Republican versus Democrat now. And I do want to say, because as you know, I was Republican for a long time. George Bush Republicans, to me, were capitalist. And I understand that that's bad. These Republicans are just, they're fascist. And Stephen Miller, if I ever fucking run into you in the street.

• 14:52Benito Skinner?

  You're meeting floor.

• 14:52Mary Beth Barone?

  On sight.

• 14:53Benito Skinner?

  It's on sight.

• 14:54Mary Beth Barone?

And I'm, because I'm gonna have Benny Drama behind me. He's gonna have that arm vane and it's, bop.

• 14:58Benito Skinner?

It's meeting floor. You know I'm dying to fight somebody. I'm dying to fight.

• 15:02Mary Beth Barone?

  I know, I know.

• 15:04Benito Skinner?

  Put me in, coach.

• 15:05Mary Beth Barone?

Also, oh, the Army of Love, we really appreciate the support and how you engage with our content that's also about politics. Sometimes we have to get serious, but we also like to have a lot of fun. When we need to activate the Army of Love, like, we will let you know and we need you all to be ready.

• 15:20Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 15:21Mary Beth Barone?

  So.

• 15:21Benito Skinner?

  They're at Pilates right now.

• 15:23Mary Beth Barone?

  I know.

• 15:23Benito Skinner?

But they're ready. They're listening right now.

• 15:25Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah. They're ready to activate, so.

• 15:28Benito Skinner?

They'll know, because they'll hear a sound, a huge alarm will sound. Come on, Perp!

• 15:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Come on, Perp!

• 15:33Benito Skinner?

  Sumayam on a big one.

• 15:35Mary Beth Barone?

That's the dog whistle for activating the Army of Love.

• 15:37Benito Skinner?

I, God. I'm so glad you did this. And we know that this is such a, like, safe, private space for people and you get to forget about everything. But sometimes I think we do have to just, because I find myself doing it too, where I read something and I'm like, I need to go on TikTok and watch something that made me so angry and disgusted. And I cannot believe this is the world we live in and this is how we treat people. But I do think at a certain point, we also have to engage and force ourselves to engage. And I think at times, of course, take space when you need to, but, come on, sorry.

• 16:09Mary Beth Barone?

  Sorry.

• 16:10Benito Skinner?

We gotta go and I'm very proud of you for saying that.

• 16:11Mary Beth Barone?

I wish we didn't have to talk about this.

• 16:12Benito Skinner?

  Of course.

• 16:13Mary Beth Barone?

Do you think I want to follow an election happening in Maine?

• 16:17Benito Skinner?

No, and do you think you want to?

• 16:18Mary Beth Barone?

Do you think I want to spend my time doing that?

• 16:19Benito Skinner?

Follow up on your precious podcast, Me Saying Christmas in Narnia with your State of the Union?

• 16:24Mary Beth Barone?

Like, I don't. I would love to just stick to, hey, stick to comedy.

• 16:28Benito Skinner?

  Hey.

• 16:28Mary Beth Barone?

  I would love to.

• 16:29Benito Skinner?

  Don't quit your day job. You're like, I guess I won't say.

• 16:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Professional comedian.

• 16:33Benito Skinner?

Do you like my jokes, sir?

• 16:35Mary Beth Barone?

And I really don't want to run for office. But if I have to, I will.

• 16:40Benito Skinner?

God. Oh, the fan edits of you. In time, in time.

• 16:44Mary Beth Barone?

We're just gonna get him on. I don't want to, that's all, that's all I'll say.

• 16:47Benito Skinner?

And when it goes Justin Bieber, it'll get me, cuz I'll be here.

• 16:51Mary Beth Barone?

Gotta keep her out for Selena.

• 16:53Benito Skinner?

Cuz I'll be in the office every day with fake glasses on. How are we in the polls?

• 16:57Mary Beth Barone?

So, let's get into what we ride for.

• 16:59Benito Skinner?

So, this week I will be riding for, well, actually, this is our, the big dinner debate.

• 17:03Mary Beth Barone?

  Dinner, restaurant episode.

• 17:04Benito Skinner?

Which I like cuz I love bringing up politics at a dinner.

• 17:07Mary Beth Barone?

Oh, yeah. And you know what's funny about our debate episodes is that, as you said, nothing is debated. We just talk about stuff that relates to each other.

• 17:13Benito Skinner?

We're best friends. Be best friends with someone you agree with everything on.

• 17:17Mary Beth Barone?

I love it, baby. Seriously. Come on, Kerplunk. So, I'm riding for chill restaurants.

• 17:24Benito Skinner?

And I'm riding for conversation starters.

• 17:29Mary Beth Barone?

Hey, you guys, it's Mary Beth here. I am doing ads in the submersible, which is currently in my parents' pool. So, if you hear water, that's because I'm in the water right now. And also, yes, I have pool privilege. So, let's just get that out of the way right now. But I want to tell you about another type of privilege, and that's Zocdoc privilege. Remember that doctor's appointment you were supposed to make a while ago? The one that you meant to book, but you got sidetracked and completely forgot about it until now? You know that dentist's appointment for your biannual cleaning? Or your overdue annual checkup that's been three years in the making? When I tell you I went to a GP, a general practitioner, for the first time this year?

• 18:12Mary Beth Barone?

Yes, I went to my pediatrician until I was in my twenties. Why not book it today? Zocdoc makes it easy to find the right doctor right now, and it's all online. You'll probably be able to book an appointment by the end of this ad, but also I want your full fucking attention, so don't you dare open a web browser right now. Zocdoc is a free app and website, cuz that's really what I'm here to talk about, where you can search and compare high-quality in-network doctors and click instantly to book an appointment. With Zocdoc, you can book in-network appointments with more than 100,000 doctors across every specialty, from mental health to dental health, primary care to urgent care and more. Get in there before the CDC... Is like totally, completely gutted and our health secretary decides that doctors actually can't practice anymore. As I get older, I do catch myself thinking I should go to the doctor more.

• 18:56Mary Beth Barone?

And after I went to my GP, which I found through Zocdoc, I then got a physical therapist. I might go get a cranial something, something massage. I mean, it's really all happening for me. So stop putting off those doctor's appointments and go to zocdoc.com/ride to find and instantly book a top rated doctor today. That's Z O C D O C dot com slash ride, zocdoc.com slash ride.

Is that cool? You gave your address. This is my bigger job.

• 22:13Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, I can't wait, kid.

• 22:14Benito Skinner?

Here's the thing. Oh, and I stand by what I said a long time ago. If you don't have a gay friend and you're a woman, you're evil.

• 22:22Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't trust you.

• 22:22Benito Skinner?

  You're evil. I don't trust you and you're definitely a Republican.

• 22:25Mary Beth Barone?

Susan Collins, I don't think has ever met a gay guy, so.

• 22:29Benito Skinner?

Well, it's so funny to me. It's crazy to me sometimes when I meet a woman and she's not like charmed by, like she's not excited by the sight of gay, like gay people. I'm like, babe, like, what the fuck?

• 22:39Mary Beth Barone?

  What the fuck?

• 22:40Benito Skinner?

  Wait, babe, what the fuck?

• 22:41Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 22:42Benito Skinner?

I'm good as fuck, the fuck?

• 22:43Mary Beth Barone?

I'm good as fuck, the fuck?

• 22:48Benito Skinner?

So, conversation starters. I was recently on a vacation, vacation privilege. And I was at this dinner with a bunch of people that I have been to so many dinners with. And it doesn't have to be this, but I just, all of a sudden, I was like, I'm gonna do something crazy. Can I say something crazy? Is that from Frozen?

• 23:07Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't know.

• 23:09Benito Skinner?

I thought there was a kissing.

• 23:11Mary Beth Barone?

  It's very unusual.

• 23:12Benito Skinner?

Unusual. So I just go, how did everyone lose their virginity? And we went around the table and we all said it.

• 23:18Mary Beth Barone?

  Whoa, I love that.

• 23:19Benito Skinner?

It was electrifying. And you know what was so interesting in it? That we found, and this is why conversation starters are so fun, and don't be afraid of them. I think people get afraid of them because they're like, well, I know everyone. It's like, no, no. That's when you do it.

• 23:31Mary Beth Barone?

  There's things to learn still.

• 23:31Benito Skinner?

  That's when you do it.

• 23:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally.

• 23:33Benito Skinner?

So what I learned is that a lot of queer people can't really place it. Because it's this weird thing, which I have sometimes because I'm like, well, would I count a time with a woman? Or do you want this, but then also that I don't want to really count? So then I'm counting this. And every single queer person at the table did that. It was fascinating. And then we had a discussion about that. And then we all sang, "Sumi, I wanna be one." And then, um.

• 23:57Mary Beth Barone?

And then you played the kissing game.

• 23:58Benito Skinner?

And then we played the kissing game, which has rocked.

• 24:00Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh, my God.

• 24:01Benito Skinner?

By the way, we should just ride for that. Like, you know, that's solely, that's a big episode.

• 24:05Mary Beth Barone?

I completely agree. And also, as the moderator, you're supposed to provide a photo as well. I just want to make that clear. If you're moderating the game.

• 24:12Benito Skinner?

  Are people not?

• 24:13Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't know. I, I, I just realized when I explained the rules, I didn't mention that.

• 24:16Benito Skinner?

I don't know if this was on the Reddit or in a comment, but someone said they also added in a bunch of random things.

• 24:20Mary Beth Barone?

Decoy. I know, which is so funny.

• 24:22Benito Skinner?

But that, to me, was tricky because I'm like, there is a number.

• 24:24Mary Beth Barone?

That's expert level. It's expert. But if you know there's decoys in it, you could say decoy for that number.

• 24:30Benito Skinner?

Whoa, that's where it gets like none of the above.

• 24:32Mary Beth Barone?

Right. So on the topic of conversation starters, as you know, my big, I love you too.

• 24:37Benito Skinner?

I'm having this moment again. I had it last night at dinner.

• 24:39Mary Beth Barone?

  It's the lighting in here.

• 24:40Benito Skinner?

  You look like Leighton Meester.

• 24:41Mary Beth Barone?

  Thank you.

• 24:42Benito Skinner?

  I love her. Jesus.

• 24:43Mary Beth Barone?

My big conversation starter is, of course, asking couples, what's your biggest fight? And actually, Victor Carlessi, who opened for me in Chicago, he's so funny. I'm obsessed with him.

• 24:52Benito Skinner?

  He's genius.

• 24:52Mary Beth Barone?

He is so goddamn funny. He actually reminded me the other day that he and his boyfriend were the first couple I ever asked that to.

• 24:59Benito Skinner?

  Stop.

• 24:59Mary Beth Barone?

I said it in the green room because I met his boyfriend, he was telling me how great he was. And I just said, like, what's your guy's biggest fight?

• 25:05Benito Skinner?

Well, if it's so great, let's hear your biggest fight.

• 25:07Mary Beth Barone?

  Let's hear about it then.

• 25:07Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 25:08Mary Beth Barone?

So I think conversation starters can be so out of pocket and it's still, even if you don't get to that actual topic, like,

• 25:14Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 25:15Mary Beth Barone?

you can see how people's minds work. It's like in an interview when someone's like, oh, how would you count up all the traffic lights in Manhattan? Or whatever.

• 25:22Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 25:22Mary Beth Barone?

It's just like, I just want to see how your brain works.

• 25:24Benito Skinner?

  Like, let's just see this.

• 25:25Mary Beth Barone?

  Let's just see you.

• 25:26Benito Skinner?

I just want to hear also, I want to know what your experience is about. Like also, by the way, these were all like best friends. So I could ask when everyone lost their virginity, which virginity is a construct.

• 25:36Mary Beth Barone?

  Of course.

• 25:36Benito Skinner?

Of course. We all said that in unison too. But actually, this question happened after I did kind of, I did something that kind of bombed because it was really boring quickly. Because I said, what was everyone's rosebud thorn? We got to get rid of that one.

• 25:47Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't like.

• 25:47Benito Skinner?

Because it's like, we were all there today, like, I don't know. Then we're like, I don't know.

• 25:50Mary Beth Barone?

  Over one day, that's crazy.

• 25:52Benito Skinner?

The dinner I'm at right now, like, it just wasn't it. So then, once I did that, incredible. Then, the next night, Emily, our dearest friend Emily, she asked the table something that I'm like, this is incredible. She said, what is the first lie you remember telling? It was so fun.

• 26:09Mary Beth Barone?

Whoa, that's a great conversation starter.

• 26:11Benito Skinner?

I literally just got chills from it because it was just like, oh my God, thinking to that. And then you just realized also, because what's just so fun is like thinking of your friends as kids and they're so themselves. Like, everyone's thing was so themselves.

• 26:22Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 26:22Benito Skinner?

But it was just delicious. It was tinselating. You know when a dinner's tinselating?

• 26:28Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally.

• 26:29Benito Skinner?

And it's just all of a sudden.

• 26:30Mary Beth Barone?

Tinselating, and Vicky did point out to me that tinselating isn't a word.

• 26:33Benito Skinner?

  Well, of course not.

• 26:34Mary Beth Barone?

It's scintillating or titillating, but you've made something totally new and different, which is tinselating.

• 26:38Benito Skinner?

Youngest child, it sounds not words.

• 26:40Mary Beth Barone?

  It sounds not words.

• 26:41Benito Skinner?

And you knew exactly what I mean.

• 26:42Mary Beth Barone?

Totally. It's a combination of both.

• 26:44Benito Skinner?

And I've decided not to be ashamed of that anymore. I just kind of like, that's just the thing I say.

• 26:48Mary Beth Barone?

No, it's just fun to point out that it is new. You're an inventor, you're a creator, you're building worlds.

• 26:53Benito Skinner?

  Hey, a creative with integrity.

• 26:55Mary Beth Barone?

Creative with integrity. I love the idea of conversation starters. I think another good conversation starter that I've been seeing on the Reddit, that anytime someone asks this, it gets a lot of comments. What is the episode of Ride that you send to someone when you want them to get hooked?

• 27:08Benito Skinner?

  Oh, my god.

• 27:09Mary Beth Barone?

So if you know you're with baronies, it's just asking something like that.

• 27:12Benito Skinner?

Some people ask me, which is so strange. It's like the work. I couldn't possibly talk about my work in that way.

• 27:19Mary Beth Barone?

  No, totally.

• 27:22Benito Skinner?

I would say, if I had to, the Ferrero Rocher Mom Secrets.

• 27:28Mary Beth Barone?

A lot of people say that, but I feel like that's a Love Corn episode, which I'm like, as a starter, that's crazy. As a first episode.

• 27:37Benito Skinner?

But that is when I feel like we found our kids. They were finally ours. They were finally in our pocket at that point.

• 27:43Mary Beth Barone?

For that to be someone's first introduction to it is so crazy to me.

• 27:46Benito Skinner?

Yeah, that's true. I do think the encyclopedias did a nice job. I was really proud of those, actually. I remember when someone at the time was like, "These are so fucking boring." And I was like, I got so mad that day. It was so funny.

• 27:57Mary Beth Barone?

If you get it, you got it. If you don't, you don't.

• 27:59Benito Skinner?

I think sometimes people forget that I'm a Scorpio, so I really just like, sometimes I'll read a comment like that. It will make me so sad and sensitive and pissed. And I'll just be like, meh. Like, I don't know. It's just like, nothing hurts worse than that. I was recently at a wedding and someone who was drunk was like, "I didn't like the first three episodes of Overcompensating, but then I really loved it." And I was just like, unfortunately, like, you're my op forever. And I wish that wasn't the case.

• 28:23Mary Beth Barone?

That's just a crazy way to say that.

• 28:24Benito Skinner?

  Well, it's so funny.

• 28:25Mary Beth Barone?

Why don't you just say you loved it?

• 28:27Benito Skinner?

I swear to god, it's like, people do this sometimes where they like have to say, I don't know if it's just because our jobs are kind of weird, you know what I mean? Like, they're not like, they're an yisho.

• 28:37Mary Beth Barone?

  An yisho.

• 28:38Benito Skinner?

So people are just kind of like, the same rules don't apply. Because I'm like, if I'm thinking of the flip side of that, like, what I could say to you, that, it's just so insane. Like, that's just crazy.

• 28:48Mary Beth Barone?

  There's nothing. There's no equivalent.

• 28:49Benito Skinner?

But I looked so cute and my skin was clear. I was pretty bulletproof, but she is officially an op, regardless.

• 28:56Mary Beth Barone?

The enemy of my friend is my enemy. I really hate to have to bring that up.

• 29:00Benito Skinner?

I'm thinking of some other ones, like, because now they kind of come to me quite a bit. So I've been asked, "What's the craziest thing you did in college?", which is helpful for the show, kind of. I'm kind of like, it's a writer's thing of sorts.

• 29:11Mary Beth Barone?

  You're mining.

• 29:12Benito Skinner?

Yeah, I'm mining. "First time you knew you were in love to couples?" I think that's really fun, because it's always different.

• 29:18Mary Beth Barone?

  Mmm.

• 29:19Benito Skinner?

Don't do the who said, I love you first. That actually will be the biggest.

• 29:23Mary Beth Barone?

I don't want to know that.

• 29:23Benito Skinner?

You're about to watch the biggest.

• 29:24Mary Beth Barone?

And in fact, I don't want to know.

• 29:26Benito Skinner?

And I don't want to know. Actually think that too. Like Rosebud Thorn was good for me because I'm like, oh, wait, I don't really give a fuck. Like, we just did all those things today. Like, I'm actually so curious, like, a few life things you've done that you and I have not talked about. Like, when I found out that you worked at Eleven Madison Park and you found out I was a gelato boy.

• 29:42Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally.

• 29:43Benito Skinner?

Which you know you would have come and gotten this scoop.

• 29:45Mary Beth Barone?

Asking, what's your, like, least favorite job, I guess?

• 29:48Benito Skinner?

  Oh.

• 29:49Mary Beth Barone?

  Is a cool one.

• 29:49Benito Skinner?

  That's really fun. What's yours?

• 29:51Mary Beth Barone?

Probably the one that I did for one day, which was to be a waiter.

• 29:54Benito Skinner?

Hmm. Yeah, I think The Sweet Shop was probably my least favorite. I didn't love editing videos right out of college, but then I would just edit my own videos also, so I guess, I guess it's gotta be.

• 30:06Mary Beth Barone?

  It's a balance.

• 30:07Benito Skinner?

The, the gelato boy on cam. I was on Candid Cam.

• 30:11Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 30:12Benito Skinner?

But yeah, I just think like these conversation starters, don't be afraid to do them, even with just like your partner, like, it's something so fun. Also, they electrify parents. Because recently I've been doing it to parents that aren't mine or ones that I don't know well, where I'm like, how did you two get together?

• 30:26Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, that's really cute.

• 30:28Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 30:28Mary Beth Barone?

And it can be really inspiring.

• 30:29Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 30:30Mary Beth Barone?

You never know where inspiration's gonna strike.

• 30:31Benito Skinner?

And it can rock your world of like, if there's like, they broke up, they got back together, they're like, when they decided. I'm just, I love it. I'm just, I'm, I'm really having fun with it.

• 30:41Mary Beth Barone?

I love that. I feel like we talk so much for work. It's fun to just be at a dinner and you can kick back and put in your two cents and then you just can listen and engage and amplify.

• 30:49Benito Skinner?

You know what I could always talk about, though?

• 30:51Mary Beth Barone?

  What?

• 30:51Benito Skinner?

You. I can always talk about you and I can, I really, it is fun talking about overcompensating.

• 30:55Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 30:55Benito Skinner?

I will say, if people bring up episodes and stuff, I'm like, oh, my God, I've got, you would die if you knew what was going on.

• 31:01Mary Beth Barone?

  I know.

• 31:02Benito Skinner?

  You would die.

• 31:03Mary Beth Barone?

I really want to do, I mean, they don't really do this anymore, but it'd be cool to do like a, you know, director's commentary or a writer's, creator's commentary.

• 31:10Benito Skinner?

I really would like to do that.

• 31:11Mary Beth Barone?

Teed on like what was going on and. Things inspiration came from. What's real, what's fiction, that sort of thing, I think could be really cool.

• 31:17Benito Skinner?

I think that'd be fun. It'd be fun to do like a watch.

• 31:20Mary Beth Barone?

  Watch party.

• 31:21Benito Skinner?

If anyone has an idea of what that looks like, like I love what Katya and Trixie do for Netflix, where they watch something and you see their reactions. A version of that, that's like a director's cut thing could be interesting with stories and stuff. A side hobby that I have is just reading all of your guys' interviews, because I just love hearing what you guys say, like you and Wally and Holmes. I'm just like, it's so fun, because everyone has obviously a different experience, no matter what, so. And that's why conversation starters.

• 31:45Mary Beth Barone?

We talk about the abuse we suffered on set.

• 31:47Benito Skinner?

Exactly. When was the moment you knew you loved me? That's my big one at tables. When was the moment you fell for me? And when's the time you were attracted to me?

• 31:56Mary Beth Barone?

Well, I fell for you when you bent over in that first stand up set. You bent over doing your stand up.

• 32:01Benito Skinner?

  Okay.

• 32:02Mary Beth Barone?

And then when I was attracted to you.

• 32:05Benito Skinner?

  Into media.

• 32:07Mary Beth Barone?

  Clip that.

• 32:10Mary Beth Barone?

When, when I shout out different vogue covers and you do the different poses.

• 32:15Benito Skinner?

To me when I do that? That's incredible.

• 32:17Mary Beth Barone?

And when you have chest hair, I would say.

• 32:21Benito Skinner?

Yeah, I got it right now. Okay, so mine for you. I knew I was in love with you. Actually, what's so funny, I knew I was in love with you the day we shot JVN as Jesus. Because when you came over, you already had all this makeup on, like you were ready to go. You were five minutes early.

• 32:37Mary Beth Barone?

  Of course.

• 32:37Benito Skinner?

You, on the way, were like, do you want a coffee? Like, I'll get you one. Like, it just.

• 32:40Mary Beth Barone?

Well, I don't even remember doing that.

• 32:41Benito Skinner?

It was so crazy. And you showed up and you had like a bodysuit, you had three other things. And when I showed you the costume, you're like, yeah, I love it. Let's do it.

• 32:47Mary Beth Barone?

  Perfect.

• 32:48Benito Skinner?

  It was so.

• 32:49Mary Beth Barone?

Might as well be a bullseye.

• 32:50Benito Skinner?

And I was just like, okay, I'm a [BLEEP]. I think like true, if I'm thinking of like, though, when I felt like, oh my God, I love this person.

• 32:57Mary Beth Barone?

Mine was at Cluster Fest when we did our first sleepover.

• 33:00Benito Skinner?

I was about to say when we watched Big Little Isies at Cluster Fest in the hotel. And when we were running from the diner at like 3 a.m.

• 33:07Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, we were scared.

• 33:08Benito Skinner?

We both got omelets. That was really cute.

• 33:10Mary Beth Barone?

  Well, it was Gotham City.

• 33:12Benito Skinner?

Barney's still existed then, as in San Francisco too. So we went to Barney's together and I remember that being fun.

• 33:17Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh, yeah.

• 33:17Benito Skinner?

And then you had that electric set with your blue eyeshadow.

• 33:20Mary Beth Barone?

  My blue eyeshadow.

• 33:20Benito Skinner?

I just knew I loved you then. Attracted, well. Have that right now. No, this one night on my birthday a year ago, two years ago, you had that J W Anderson kind of silky black dress on and your hair was like bombshell. So my sisters were at this dinner and everyone there was just like, you are so sexy. Like every single person was like, holy fuck.

• 33:42Mary Beth Barone?

It was cool. That was another time when my boyfriend lived in a different country. So that was really all for you guys. I had no, I had no one to perform for.

• 33:49Benito Skinner?

I go all this, all this and she has a parasite?

• 33:51Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, and I had a parasite. Also, my camera roll is so diabolical right now because if I go back to back to back relationships, if I go back a little bit, it's recent X. If I go back a little too far, then it's the two, it's just so, it's horrible. It's horrible.

• 34:06Benito Skinner?

I'm so sorry. Mine sometimes will just make me laugh because it will have me and it's like I'm tucked as deliverance, like way sweaty. It's like, I really am reminded that I've lived nine lives pretty consistently. Sometimes though lately it's been doing, because we shot a year ago, it will do Toronto and I'm like, oh my God.

• 34:24Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh, that's really tough. Yeah.

• 34:26Benito Skinner?

  I want to be back.

• 34:27Mary Beth Barone?

Also, dating two straight guys in a row, when people send me memes unexpectedly, I get PTSD. Because when you date a straight man, you're just getting sent memes literally all day.

• 34:37Benito Skinner?

  It's crazy.

• 34:37Mary Beth Barone?

Their entire waking hours are spent just finding memes to send to you. To the level where you couldn't possibly have a unique reaction to all of them.

• 34:43Benito Skinner?

  No.

• 34:44Mary Beth Barone?

So I went on a date with this girl and she's lovely, but then she sent me a meme the next day and I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's slow down.

• 34:52Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 34:53Mary Beth Barone?

  Let's not get too crazy.

• 34:54Benito Skinner?

This chick didn't wake up in my house yet. Let's chill with the memes.

• 34:57Mary Beth Barone?

You can send me a meme when we get to that level, but I am so happy not dating anyone right now and not getting memes all day. It's very freeing.

• 35:05Benito Skinner?

Cause I, we only love, I only love one thing a week. That's kind of my thing. Like morning.

• 35:10Mary Beth Barone?

Also, I get, my algorithm is so smart. I see so many of the memes that I'm supposed to, just on my own, just organically. So I love when brony send me memes because I can look at them in my message requests and I don't have to respond necessarily. But sometimes I repost them to my story and I say, okay, so that was perfect. You totally nailed it.

• 35:27Benito Skinner?

Like stuck the landing. This is fabulous. You get me.

• 35:30Mary Beth Barone?

But some people I would say could send me. You're memes. That's all I'll say before I get into chill restaurants.

• 35:36Benito Skinner?

Well, this is even I have new straight friends, you know, it's like it's not common for me, but I have been electrified by the sheer amount of videos and memes. And sometimes I have the same thought and kind of, so I would say maybe 80% of them. You thought of me. Interesting.

• 35:51Mary Beth Barone?

  Isn't it crazy when

• 35:52Benito Skinner?

This made you think of me.

• 35:53Mary Beth Barone?

When someone thinks they know you and then they prove that they really don't. Cause they send you a meme that is just so off base.

• 35:58Benito Skinner?

Well, the thing that I get the most on the internet is people being like, you look like me. And I look and I'm like, I really don't think you know what I look like. Like I'm not, no hate to this person. I just don't.

• 36:08Mary Beth Barone?

You either don't know what I look like or you don't know what you look like. Meanwhile, me on the other hand, anytime someone tags me in something saying like

• 36:14Benito Skinner?

  Twin.

• 36:14Mary Beth Barone?

  Total like bullseye.

• 36:16Benito Skinner?

Shocking. Young girl did her makeup as you and I literally, I said, that's my sister.

• 36:22Mary Beth Barone?

This episode is brought to you by NoCD. Picture this, you're going about your day when suddenly a horrifying thought flashes through your mind, "Oh, my God, I had one recently where I was driving through an intersection that was just like hit that person." And see, I feel sick as I'm saying that, but here's the thing, I would never want to do that. It's egotasonic. That's what these thoughts are. They are not something you want to do. It is your OCD, okay? Your heart races, your palms sweat, and anxiety washes over you. You're mortified and you feel fully convinced that it's true, even though you know that that isn't who you are. I don't want to commit vehicular homicide.

• 38:51Mary Beth Barone?

  Any crimes, really.

• 38:52Benito Skinner?

Trust. But really, any crimes. That's such a good point. But still, the question of why did I think that? Am I a bad person? Do I want to kill Benny Drama 7? Start to consume you and you feel like you have to do something, anything to make them go away. That sounds familiar. I think NoCD could be for you, my babies. NoCD is a virtual therapy provider for OCD that's here to help anyone struggling with OCD and taboo or shameful thoughts get the treatment and support they need. Totally.

• 39:24Benito Skinner?

And that was a nice thought.

• 39:25Mary Beth Barone?

  And I'm amplifying.

• 39:56Mary Beth Barone?

Chill restaurants. I have been going out to a lot of dinners lately all across the globe. And I will say that there are restaurants who are sort of, their brand identity is like you walk in and immediately they tell you, so we do things a little differently.

• 40:13Benito Skinner?

  Mm-hmm.

• 40:14Mary Beth Barone?

And I'm thinking, blow my mind. Tell me how you've reinvented the form of serving food at a restaurant. I can't wait to fucking hear this.

• 40:22Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 40:23Mary Beth Barone?

And then they say something like, so this is our menu. You're gonna tell me all the food that you want at the same time. That's just better for chef. And so we're gonna put in all the food that you're gonna order. And then we, so we actually bring the food out when it's ready. And then you'll eat it and then you pay the bill and then that's sort of the end of the experience. And I think, huh, I feel like that's sort of how it always goes.

• 40:47Benito Skinner?

  So this is a restaurant?

• 40:49Mary Beth Barone?

Restaurant? So I'm just like, okay, so yeah, you, we order, we bring it out and we eat it.

• 40:54Benito Skinner?

Yeah, no, I've done this a couple of times. I'm feeling good about it.

• 40:57Mary Beth Barone?

We don't need to make it a whole production, a whole dog and pony show. Also, if I get to a reservation five minutes early and I notice there's 27 empty tables and you won't seat me, let me see if the table's ready. I'm looking at it right now and it's ready and I'm so sorry. And I'm not gonna be a bitch to you. I'm gonna just smile and nod and be like, that's so fine. Cause I know you've probably been on your feet all day and I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt. But I will say, it's just like, I think a chill restaurant where you go in, you don't need any explanation. You get the menu, you order, you have that interaction. To me, that's just like, perfect. I don't, the, the meal, I'm going, the meal is secondary to the conversation, to the company I keep.

• 41:34Benito Skinner?

To the conversation starters that quote-spoke Benny Drama has brought.

• 41:36Mary Beth Barone?

Is throwing out to the table.

• 41:38Benito Skinner?

  Of course.

• 41:38Mary Beth Barone?

So I don't need it to be unique or different. Also, I'm like, to me, small plates are not really a vibe that I, I would love to just order my own thing and that's that. We just do it that way.

• 41:48Benito Skinner?

Well, here's my thing. I'm like, it's just, no matter what, a shared plate situation, we are, we're all cavemen again. It's just like, I'm fighting. It's fight.

• 41:57Mary Beth Barone?

It was family style last night. Two people, perfect. When we're doing family style, when it's 12 people, eight people, oh my god, my head is spinning. My head is spinning. And just there's certain people that really can't order. And in that case, just bow out of the process. Bow out of the process. Elect somebody at the table to put the order in for the group. Whatever it is, just please, don't embarrass me. Please, all I ask is don't embarrass me.

• 42:20Benito Skinner?

I just, there's a few things. Thank you so much for bringing this, by the way. I think we can seat the party early is my only thing. Even if we're waiting for somebody.

• 42:28Mary Beth Barone?

Oh, you know my whole theory with that.

• 42:30Benito Skinner?

  What?

• 42:30Mary Beth Barone?

One restaurant in New York sat an eight top with one person.

• 42:34Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 42:35Mary Beth Barone?

Back in the seventies and the other seven people never came.

• 42:37Benito Skinner?

  Oh, yeah.

• 42:38Mary Beth Barone?

  And it is just.

• 42:39Benito Skinner?

  Done.

• 42:39Mary Beth Barone?

  It's urban legend.

• 42:40Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 42:41Mary Beth Barone?

And they have just said, so we just can't do it anymore.

• 42:43Benito Skinner?

  No fucking way.

• 42:44Mary Beth Barone?

Sorry, we don't forget. We'll forgive, but we won't forget.

• 42:46Benito Skinner?

  Our hands are tied.

• 42:47Mary Beth Barone?

  And hashtag never again.

• 42:48Benito Skinner?

Yeah, exactly. And we won't let it happen. So, yeah, that makes sense to me. That's insane. I think if you say you don't want dessert and then when it comes, you take a lot of bites. It's not looking good for you. You're an op, my good sis. You're an op.

• 43:02Mary Beth Barone?

I mean, yes, you didn't like the first three episodes of overcompensating.

• 43:04Benito Skinner?

Yeah. Yeah, if you do some shit like that, you've lost my respect in every way. Because you said you didn't want it. And the whole time I'm thinking, I thought you said you didn't want dessert.

• 43:13Mary Beth Barone?

  I know.

• 43:14Benito Skinner?

And now I'm sitting here with the dessert that I so proudly ordered. I put my heart on the line and I said, I want it. I love this dessert. I'm excited to have it. And you're embarrassed.

• 43:25Mary Beth Barone?

  And yeah.

• 43:26Benito Skinner?

She doesn't know she never, you never wanted her.

• 43:29Mary Beth Barone?

And maybe they brought an extra spoon. It should go untouched.

• 43:32Benito Skinner?

  No, that's my second spoon.

• 43:34Mary Beth Barone?

That's for when I want a new, fresh, clean spoon.

• 43:37Benito Skinner?

That's when I want that clean metal taste in my mouth. Because the other one got diluted with the gorgeous flavors of the dessert that I proudly ordered.

• 43:44Mary Beth Barone?

Also, fuck, I, I just want to say one thing, which is that I saw a really funny TikTok the other day that was like, God, I just wish TikTok made people's names more prevalent.

• 43:53Benito Skinner?

Part of it, they want you to love the app. That's the big thing.

• 43:56Mary Beth Barone?

She goes, don't invite me to a dinner if you have an eating disorder. Unless, unless it's a binge eating disorder.

• 44:02Benito Skinner?

  Oh, my God.

• 44:03Mary Beth Barone?

  It was really funny.

• 44:05Benito Skinner?

  Oh, my God.

• 44:05Mary Beth Barone?

I laughed, I had a little laugh. Anyway, go on.

• 44:07Benito Skinner?

Your article is incredible, by the way.

• 44:09Mary Beth Barone?

  Thank you.

• 44:09Benito Skinner?

  For New York Mag.

• 44:10Mary Beth Barone?

  Thank you so much.

• 44:10Benito Skinner?

I think if anyone hasn't read that.

• 44:12Mary Beth Barone?

  And I'm sorry, there's a paywall. I didn't, I didn't put it there.

• 44:15Benito Skinner?

There's a paywall and obviously a trigger warning.

• 44:17Mary Beth Barone?

  I didn't put it there.

• 44:17Benito Skinner?

  It's quite phenomenal.

• 44:18Mary Beth Barone?

I think Saul that read it.

• 44:19Benito Skinner?

  Quite genius.

• 44:20Mary Beth Barone?

  In the world.

• 44:21Benito Skinner?

So, oh, my God. This concept is really interesting because it's also, I will say, dinner, yes, aggressive at times. It's breakfast that I find a lot of aggression lately where it's like. Coffee from another place? Leave it outside.

• 44:34Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh my god.

• 44:35Benito Skinner?

  Leave it outside.

• 44:36Mary Beth Barone?

You know, they tried to ban me from This was so funny. This was actually such a great interaction for me. I ordered a coffee while I was waiting for my table. I ordered a coffee from the, the window. And then when I, I'm choked, I'm getting choked up by this.

• 44:49Benito Skinner?

  Yeah, of course.

• 44:49Mary Beth Barone?

I went to go then get seated at my table and the woman working there. I can't let you in with outside coffee.

• 44:54Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 44:55Mary Beth Barone?

I go, oh, it's actually from here. Now take me to my fucking table.

• 44:59Benito Skinner?

And then you went all on her head.

• 45:01Mary Beth Barone?

I poured it on her head.

• 45:01Benito Skinner?

You looked her right in the eye.

• 45:03Mary Beth Barone?

While we're talking about restaurants, I'm starting a boycott of this venture backed ghost kitchen incubator called Wonder Kitchen.

• 45:11Benito Skinner?

Oh, was this in our, our deleted episode?

• 45:13Mary Beth Barone?

  Yes, this was.

• 45:14Benito Skinner?

Oh, this was, so I talked about Carrie Bradshaw.

• 45:15Mary Beth Barone?

And now I need to talk about Wonder Kitchen.

• 45:17Benito Skinner?

I also have to shout out Nico. Nico's Wine Shop.

• 45:20Mary Beth Barone?

Oh, of course, at Nico's Wine Shop.

• 45:22Benito Skinner?

Nico's Wine Shop is fabulous. I was eating at Dune, which is delicious. And they have, they have an interesting seating arrangement thing, but I'm not mad.

• 45:29Mary Beth Barone?

They do food the old fashioned, they do restaurants the old fashioned way.

• 45:30Benito Skinner?

Totally, it's super chill. Is that called Atwater? Am I losing my mind?

• 45:33Mary Beth Barone?

  It's Atwater.

• 45:34Benito Skinner?

Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, sorry. I don't, me, I live in LA, you don't, and you know that. Atwater, Nico's, oh my god, you're such a darling love. I love my daughter. She brought wine and she goes, I know you hate wine, but here's this one. And it was delicious. I had it at a dinner. Go to Nico's. It's such a, I mean, it's a fabulous place with a fabulous font and a fabulous owner.

• 45:53Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, I can't wait to go with you.

• 45:54Benito Skinner?

Benny Dramas, two thumbs, way, way up on Grubhub.

• 45:57Mary Beth Barone?

So sort of the opposite of a, a woman owned small business that serves wine. Wonder Kitchen, it was started by a venture capitalist who has recently purchased Grubhub as well. So he's just like buying up these.

• 46:08Benito Skinner?

  He's the monopoly man.

• 46:09Mary Beth Barone?

  He's the monopoly man.

• 46:10Benito Skinner?

I should meet him for Halloween, maybe.

• 46:11Mary Beth Barone?

Absolutely. So Wonder Kitchen, it is a hub of ghost kitchens, but when you order it online on, on a food delivery app, it doesn't necessarily say it's by Wonder Kitchen. So I ordered a burger from like Baby's Burgers or something and I Googled it to make sure it was real. They had photos of a real restaurant and real burgers. And then when it came to me, it was so clearly that it had been frozen all day and just defrosted by a robot. When you walk into Wonder Kitchen, I believe there's maybe one or two people working in the back, but they don't have anyone in the front. You just order on an iPad. And it is truly food that is prepared that morning in New Jersey, at least the one in Williamsburg. And then it is sent to these various locations and then the food just sits there all day until someone orders it. It's devaluing food in general to me, the experience of eating food. I'm like, it's just slop that arrives and it doesn't taste good. You have to put so much ketchup on it.

• 46:55Mary Beth Barone?

I will say that some people I know have had okay experiences with the food. If you can order from a locally owned place, a small business, like, please just do that. And like, there's nothing I would love to see more than for Wonder Kitchen to just totally fail because the food is disgusting. It's disgusting and it's not doing restaurants the old fashioned way. It's trying to like AI, like, I don't know. It's just trying to make food like tech and I'm like, I want food to be food.

• 47:19Benito Skinner?

Well, restaurants old fashioned way also just like want you to have a great time. They're like, come on down. Like, let's just like,

• 47:24Mary Beth Barone?

  It's an experience.

• 47:25Benito Skinner?

Come on down, let's just shoot the shit, dude.

• 47:27Mary Beth Barone?

  Let's shoot the shit.

• 47:28Benito Skinner?

That's a big thing. It says that sign.

• 47:30Mary Beth Barone?

Come on down, let's shoot the shit.

• 47:31Benito Skinner?

  Let's shoot the shit, dude.

• 47:33Mary Beth Barone?

If the food was cheaper because robots were making it and it wasn't being touched by human hands,

• 47:37Benito Skinner?

  Would make sense.

• 47:37Mary Beth Barone?

  I could sort, it's that's a value product.

• 47:40Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 47:40Mary Beth Barone?

But it's not. Also, you'll be on there looking at a sushi place and then they'll have mac and cheese and you go, oh, because this is part of Wonder Kitchen. It's all being prepared in the same place. I think it's like tricking people into,

• 47:49Benito Skinner?

  Fusion.

• 47:50Mary Beth Barone?

  It's, but it's not. It's so not. That's what's tough.

• 47:52Benito Skinner?

  Don't be fooled.

• 47:53Mary Beth Barone?

  Don't be fooled.

• 47:54Benito Skinner?

I know you get excited when you think fusion, but it's not.

• 47:56Mary Beth Barone?

Don't be a statistic. It's just all being made in the same disgusting commercial kitchen. So I would say boycott Wonder Kitchen, but I love the experience of a restaurant where they're just, it's everything I've come to know and love about eating out and eating at a restaurant. I of course do miss when they used to take the credit card away, do that whole thing. Some restaurants still do that. Now they're bringing over the tap. You tap it.

• 48:16Benito Skinner?

I don't mind the tap thing. It's very European.

• 48:19Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't like it. I don't like it.

• 48:19Benito Skinner?

I kind of like it. It would have been better during the more split phase of my twenties, you know, when you're splitting the bill. It is easier to go around.

• 48:26Mary Beth Barone?

But then I like when they take the card away because then you know to sort of wrap up the conversation.

• 48:29Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 48:30Mary Beth Barone?

Now it's like they come over, you tap it and you're just like, okay, bye.

• 48:32Benito Skinner?

Yeah, there is also an awkwardness. Where they do that and then they turn their head when they do the tip?

• 48:38Mary Beth Barone?

That is such a specific thing to call out and it's so funny.

• 48:42Benito Skinner?

Do you know what I mean? Where they go boom.

• 48:43Mary Beth Barone?

Well, they don't want to go, I don't need to see it.

• 48:44Benito Skinner?

No, it's the ultimate, I don't need to see it.

• 48:47Mary Beth Barone?

They go, I'm gonna know what you do.

• 48:48Benito Skinner?

Well, because they can feel the pressure and I know that they're gonna feel the pressure. So I really, on, you know, 25.

• 48:55Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, you have to.

• 48:56Benito Skinner?

Sorry. Hey, I'll come out and say it.

• 48:57Mary Beth Barone?

You'll come out and say it. I want to shout out Borgo. We had a fabulous meal there last night.

• 49:02Benito Skinner?

Fabulous meal. Z, we love you, Z.

• 49:04Mary Beth Barone?

  Love you.

• 49:05Benito Skinner?

Oh, my God. I just got asked what I wrote for this morning, which I get asked a lot what I'm writing for.

• 49:10Mary Beth Barone?

It's like, hi, listen to the podcast.

• 49:12Benito Skinner?

I'm like, hi, I'm literally just trying to get coffee right now, geek.

• 49:15Mary Beth Barone?

Oh, you got asked that? I thought you got asked that in an interview.

• 49:17Benito Skinner?

  Well, that too.

• 49:18Mary Beth Barone?

  Okay.

• 49:18Benito Skinner?

But yeah, just in general, I'm saying I do get asked what I'm writing for a lot. Or people tell me what they're writing for, which really helps me, but sometimes I'm like, I kind of want to steal that.

• 49:26Mary Beth Barone?

  By the way.

• 49:26Benito Skinner?

Oh, it's an incre- I hope an incredible one, but I think that is really fun. It's like if you were forced to be on a podcast.

• 49:33Mary Beth Barone?

  Monetize the friendship.

• 49:35Benito Skinner?

Monetize your friendship. What was I gonna say?

• 49:38Mary Beth Barone?

You got asked what you write for.

• 49:39Benito Skinner?

I said, taking your bestie out on a date, like it was so hot to dress up for you.

• 49:44Mary Beth Barone?

  It felt good.

• 49:45Benito Skinner?

Putting on my cute little dress. Hey, cute jeans, take mine off me.

• 49:49Mary Beth Barone?

  Mm-hmm.

• 49:49Benito Skinner?

  Nothing wrong with that.

• 49:50Mary Beth Barone?

  Hey, cute jeans.

• 49:51Benito Skinner?

Slapping down the Amex and saying, I got this one, babe. You take a load off. You've had a crazy year. You know what you are, Mary Beth?

• 49:59Mary Beth Barone?

  Bisexual?

• 50:00Benito Skinner?

Well, yeah, but you're also my ride or die. Ride or die.

• 50:05Mary Beth Barone?

Okay, I just want to get into ride or die because I love and ride for conversation starters. And you just reminded me that I was at a barbecue with a couple of people that I know very well. And then the rest of the people were complete strangers to me. And this one guy mentions offhandedly that he was in the armed forces. Cause he had a psychotic break when he was 16 and I go, let me guess, Marine Corps. Totally nailed it.

• 50:29Benito Skinner?

  Wow.

• 50:29Mary Beth Barone?

And then he went into his whole origin story of joining the Marine Corps at 16 and then having to literally go, I think to Afghanistan for four years. And I just kept asking him questions, waiting until he got to the point where he goes, just like, I don't want to talk about it anymore. He lit up like a Christmas tree. He was so happy to just talk about it and share, at least that was my perception of it. And we definitely got into, we went into some, you know, dark corners.

• 50:51Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 50:52Mary Beth Barone?

But I really enjoyed my conversation with him.

• 50:55Benito Skinner?

Why am I having this? Oh my god. I'm just picturing you listening and every time he talks about something, you go folklore.

• 51:09Mary Beth Barone?

  So specific.

• 51:11Benito Skinner?

I don't know why. I think I'm just so tired and it's so hot.

• 51:15Mary Beth Barone?

  And so hot.

• 51:16Benito Skinner?

Just some bimbo girl. He's telling his horrific war story and you keep going folklore. He's like, but I, have I told you this story of one time? My sister and I were back at, we went, we did go to college together. Hi Katie. And we were in Georgetown and we got back from Thanksgiving break a day early. And so I was with one of my friends and he was notoriously a weed guy. It was his entire personality, which you can, you can still do into adulthood. So we did these bong rips together and we went to the zoo in DC. And it was like the, you know, where they light it up for the holidays. Where you know, like where it's.

• 51:57Mary Beth Barone?

They light up the zoo for the holidays.

• 51:58Benito Skinner?

They put a bunch of lights on it. But I'm like, I'm sure the animals fucking love that. Like, great. But we go, my sister, I mean, we did like really, really intense. She's completely silent the entire night. Like didn't say a word at all. The next day to me, he goes, dude, your sister's the fucking best. And I, I'm thinking to myself, you loved my sister. She didn't say a single fucking word. And in that moment, I knew straight men.

• 52:26Mary Beth Barone?

Does not speak to the culture.

• 52:27Benito Skinner?

Of course. Loud and clear. I got it.

• 52:30Mary Beth Barone?

Sometimes the most powerful conversation starter is saying nothing.

• 52:34Benito Skinner?

He's thinking, I want this chick to wake up in my fucking house. She's, fuck, she doesn't say a beep.

• 52:40Mary Beth Barone?

  Silence.

• 52:41Benito Skinner?

Folklore. He's like, wait, what, what'd you say?

• 52:45Mary Beth Barone?

I'm talking about the bridge I built in the Middle East. He literally built a bridge.

• 52:49Benito Skinner?

  Jesus.

• 52:50Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah. Anyway, give people space to tell their stories.

• 52:54Benito Skinner?

I also, I really ride for chill restaurants because I'm also reminded of a time when you asked for a sauce and they go, the chef prefers if you don't, if you don't. And last night I brought that up to you and you go, well, is he here?

• 53:05Mary Beth Barone?

Bring him out. I would love to have a word. Talk me through your choice.

• 53:09Benito Skinner?

Tell him why I can't have aioli right now.

• 53:10Mary Beth Barone?

Give me aioli. What the fuck? Who's eating here? So you make the food, I eat the food. Give me the sauce.

• 53:18Benito Skinner?

  Come on!

• 53:21Benito Skinner?

  Come on, cripples!

• 53:22Mary Beth Barone?

He just unplugged his headphone to just not talk too much about what they can't see. So, thank you all for, I guess, another what we would call amazing episode of Ride the Podcast.

• 53:29Benito Skinner?

Yeah, I don't know if these are heritage or something different. I don't know. It's something interesting. But I hope everyone has a chill dinner tonight, full of conversation zingers and politics. We love you so much.

• 53:45Benito Skinner?

  Folklore.

• 53:46Mary Beth Barone?

That is so funny. The guy did think I was completely insane.

• 53:52Benito Skinner?

  Oh, my exit.

• 53:53Mary Beth Barone?

Benny, babe, eyes on the road.

• 53:56Mary Beth Barone?

  Benny, go!
