If Taylor Swift was a dude and she made the same exact songs, the songs are kinda creepy.

• 1:09Speaker 02

What song did, um, the, the "You Belong, You Belong With Me"? And I was like, if a dude sang that, yo, bro, he's getting locked up. Like.

• 1:17Drew Afualo?

You're right, because, uh, because when women do it, it's okay.

• 1:20Speaker 02

  Yeah. But it's like.

• 1:21Drew Afualo?

I gave you the pass. It's okay. It's okay when you do it.

• 1:24Speaker 02

I'm hearing the lyrics, "She wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts," and I'm like, "Ah, what's wrong with short skirts, bro?" Like, you know what I mean?

• 2:40Speaker 02

  Well, congratulations on your engagement.

• 2:42Drew Afualo?

Congratulations on your engagement. Look at us, two engaged queens. How's engaged life been for you?

• 2:48Speaker 02

It's good. It's kind of like a whole new, what's it called? Marshmallow phase? What's the word?

• 2:53Drew Afualo?

  Honeymoon phase?

• 2:54Speaker 02

  Honeymoon phase. Yeah, marshmallow.

• 2:56Drew Afualo?

  Marshmallow phase.

• 2:57Speaker 02

  Same thing.

• 2:57Drew Afualo?

Yeah, same thing. Honestly, feels like marshmallows for sure.

• 3:00Speaker 02

Yeah, we just call each other fiance now.

• 3:01Drew Afualo?

I know, it's nice, huh? Doesn't it fit better? Because it's almost like girlfriend-boyfriend felt not serious enough.

• 3:08Speaker 02

Yeah, and I didn't, I didn't feel that way until

• 3:10Drew Afualo?

  You got engaged.

• 3:11Speaker 02

Until the fiance word came up.

• 3:13Drew Afualo?

And then you're like, this fits better.

• 3:15Speaker 02

And, and like people, it sucks because people kind of look at it better, which I don't know how I feel about it. It's like, we was locked in before the ring.

• 3:22Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 3:23Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 3:23Drew Afualo?

  I couldn't agree more.

• 3:24Speaker 02

And have you noticed anytime you bring up that your fiance, people immediately talk about their wedding? Have you noticed that?

• 3:30Drew Afualo?

Have you started planning? Oh my God, don't do it. I hated it. Yeah, every, every woman I've ever met who's been married and planned a wedding to some extent, they've told, I'm sure your fiance is getting this a ton, which is like, oh, don't even bother. It's, oh God.

• 3:43Speaker 02

I told her not to. I was like, look, if you want, like, maybe you can like be in the process a little bit, but I was like, the last thing I want is for you to want our wedding to just be over with.

• 3:53Drew Afualo?

  Right, same.

• 3:53Speaker 02

And so I was like, you know, we just got to trust somebody, but, you know.

• 3:57Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 3:57Speaker 02

But she's, she's a very, she likes her hands and everything. She wants to be a part of the whole process, so. I'm just gonna let her do what she wants.

• 4:04Drew Afualo?

How long were y'all together before you got engaged?

• 4:06Speaker 02

  Eight years.

• 4:07Drew Afualo?

  Okay, look at us!

• 4:08Speaker 02

But listen, we're high school sweethearts, so don't, okay?

• 4:11Drew Afualo?

T, mine was, eh, mine was seven and we were not high school sweethearts.

• 4:14Speaker 02

Yeah, so everybody's like, I would hate, they'd be like, oh, how long y'all been together? Eight years, and the first thing they do is look at her hand, and I could see it. I see their eyes go.

• 4:24Drew Afualo?

  They're like, mm.

• 4:25Speaker 02

Alright, how long you and yours been together? Oh, you're single? Oh, okay.

• 4:29Drew Afualo?

No fucking, for real, you're telling me, bitch. Every time, seven years and I haven't put a ring on it. I'm like, okay, seven years, you're not HVAC certified.

• 4:36Speaker 02

  Exactly.

• 4:37Drew Afualo?

You're worried about, you're worried about the wrong timeline, brother?

• 4:39Speaker 02

  Yeah, I know, right?

• 4:40Drew Afualo?

Don't worry about my ring, worry about your suffering, thank you. I appreciate it. Well, it's two, and I feel like, we kinda talked about this last time, but like, the way that our relationships were kind of moving in, it, I, correct me if I'm wrong, for mine, it's like, I don't, I'm not in a rush. I know you're the one, let's just live life together first and see, because we had plans, but I had a lot of goals I wanted to hit before we got engaged, before we got married, before we bought a home, anything like that, so I'm like, I wanna get a dog, I wanna live together for a long time. I want, there's like, so many different things I think are far more important than like, when you get married.

• 5:16Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 5:16Drew Afualo?

As long as you're aligned on getting married, I think it'll be fine.

• 5:18Speaker 02

I thi, and, and I mean, I know we're not married, but I think what people don't understand is like the, the age old, you know, you're with somebody for two, three years, you pop the question, and then you get married like the year after.

• 5:30Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 5:30Speaker 02

I think if you really let it like, slow boil, and you really know, cause like, I'm still learning new things about like, my fiance to this day.

• 5:37Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 5:38Speaker 02

And so it's like, like, I'm like, okay, well, I'm glad we spent the time to know, one, which is the most important, ourselves, who we are as people.

• 5:46Drew Afualo?

  Right, T.

• 5:46Speaker 02

And then how, how those two people like, connect.

• 5:49Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 5:50Speaker 02

And how we, how we can like, move forward in life. And so, I think everything has its divine timing, I, like, I'm supposed to be, I was supposed to pop that question when I popped it, and, and now we're here.

• 5:59Drew Afualo?

  Period, fucking same.

• 6:01Speaker 02

It was a story, how, what's your story?

• 6:03Drew Afualo?

  Of how?

• 6:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 6:05Drew Afualo?

No, I had no fucking clue. Did she know?

• 6:07Speaker 02

  No.

• 6:08Drew Afualo?

Okay, see, that's that's tea because you're just like my man. Like, I really thought, like, he fucking got my ass. Because it was our seventh anniversary last August. But I was on tour and he was with us. So like, our last show was on our anniversary. So the weekend after that, he was like, oh, we should go away together for the anniversary, which we had already planned. So I was like.

• 6:28Speaker 02

He was like, you should go away together.

• 6:29Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, and I was like, that's a great idea. I was thinking the same thing. And I planned the whole thing. I I found the place, I booked it. I like to do that stuff, so that's what I did. Yeah, so I I did that. And then I was like, I didn't even consider it until we were getting to the day, like, we were gonna leave to the hotel and stuff. And I was like, would he propose now? And I was like, no way, because I planned everything.

• 6:50Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 6:51Drew Afualo?

Including dinners and shit. I was like, I planned all that shit. There's no way. He wanted to surprise me. It's not gonna be this weekend. He got my ass, bitch. I wasn't expecting it at all.

• 6:59Speaker 02

Yeah, I guess since you plan everything, he couldn't be like, yo, I've got everything planned.

• 7:04Drew Afualo?

Yeah, no, for real, it was like a real cloak and dagger with me. Because I remember too, that night, I we went to like Omakase. Have you ever been to Omakase?

• 7:13Speaker 02

  Is it sushi, right?

• 7:14Drew Afualo?

Yeah, but it's like the kind where you and they give you the the one piece at a time kind of thing.

• 7:18Speaker 02

Very bougie. I love that stuff. I feel so good when I'm there. Never never full, spend like four hundred dollars.

• 7:25Drew Afualo?

Leave starving. Had a great time though.

• 7:28Speaker 02

Me and my girl went to a fast food spot after. This is for real. We had it. We had like the twelve courses. This is great.

• 7:39Drew Afualo?

I'm starving. Are you? No, same. Honestly, we ordered, I think, room service after because we were still so hungry. I left a little drunk because I was so hungry. I had nothing to absorb all the alcohol. So we went to the dinner. I remember we were a little bit late, of course, because I'm late. And it was probably like ten minutes. So they started the first course. We sit down, the guy's like serving us. And you know, they know, like, if you're celebrating something, you like tell them. So there he's like, oh, so you guys are celebrating an anniversary? I'm like, yeah, it's the chef, like the guy. And he goes, oh, like, um, how long have you guys been married? I was like, oh, we're not married. And he goes, how long have you guys been together? I go, it's seven years. And he goes, hmm, not married. Goes like that. I go.

• 8:15Speaker 02

Yo, my man, can I just get him some sushi?

• 8:16Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I said, oh, sushi chef has jokes. Oh, you're fucking hilarious. Me annoyed at him. I'm like, as soon as he turned around, I go, fuck that guy.

• 8:26Speaker 02

  Eating that.

• 8:29Drew Afualo?

This is delicious, by the way. Hey, you're eating it.

• 8:32Speaker 02

You're great at what you do.

• 8:33Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you're killing it, by the way. And I remember too, like, at one point, they gave us these little glowy things that went in drinks. And so one of them fell down and it started lighting up underneath the little bar we were sitting at. And I went, oh, my God. And then I remember he was like, what? Because he had his bag down there with the ring in it. And I go, there's like a glowy thing on the ground.

• 8:54Speaker 02

  Don't worry about it.

• 8:54Drew Afualo?

Yeah, he goes, oh, oh, all right. And I remember him being a little weirded out about it. And I was like, are you all right?

• 9:00Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:00Drew Afualo?

And so then we left, went up to the room. He had asked me, oh, do you want to go for a walk like around the hotel? Which again, I thought was strange because it was like 10:00 PM and it was dark outside. And I was like, um, it's kind of dark. And he was like, okay, we could just go back to the room. And I was like, all right. And we went back to them. I was like, wow, what a nice dinner. And then we went inside the room and there was like petals everywhere, like three huge, like 24 long stem roses, like three huge vases of those and balloons all over the ceiling. And again, I really thought, and this makes me sound like a dick because it makes me sound like I'm lying, but I'm not. Uh, my man does shit like that for me so often that I'm like, oh, my God.

• 9:38Speaker 02

Yeah, I was about to say, it was like, you probably thought it was just for the anniversary.

• 9:41Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was like, oh, that's so beautiful. Wow, that's so nice. I was like, when did you ask them to do all this? And he's like, earlier. And I go, oh, really? Not once have I turned around. I was like, that's so weird because I feel like I've been with you all day. Me just fucking talking.

• 9:52Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:53Drew Afualo?

I can't shut the fuck up.

• 9:54Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:54Drew Afualo?

And then I, and then I turned around and he was on one knee. And then I was like, what are you doing?

• 9:58Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:59Drew Afualo?

What are you doing? Which some people have asked me, have you guys recorded it or whatever? And I was like, no, and thank God, because he told me he asked for all that stuff to be put in there. And they said, oh, we can, um, put a photographer in there to like take pictures. And then he goes, she's gonna hate that.

• 10:13Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 10:14Drew Afualo?

Which I'm really glad he didn't do it because the first 30 minutes was me crying and saying, what are you doing? Over and over and over again. And then once I calmed the fuck down, he goes, Can I give you my speech? Or I go, oh my god, yeah, sorry. You just talking. Oh my god, shut the fuck up for once, me to me. And then he did, and it was amazing and beautiful. I couldn't even look at it for like, at least an hour. I was like going like this, every time I looked at it, it made me have a panic attack.

• 10:38Speaker 02

  Right.

• 10:39Drew Afualo?

  In a good way.

• 10:39Speaker 02

  Right.

• 10:40Drew Afualo?

  Not derogatory. What about you?

• 10:41Speaker 02

That's good. Uh, my, my, so I had this whole plan, it was our eight year anniversary. Which is crazy, we're like, we're twins.

• 10:47Drew Afualo?

  I know, that's what I'm saying.

• 10:49Speaker 02

And so, uh, I was, we went to Rome. I love history, like, like, my, my, my girl, she loves like, the beach. I like the beach.

• 11:01Speaker 02

Like, I mean, if she, we could go to the beach and stay there the whole week. Sun up, the sun down, you, I mean, you got three hours out of me. And now, like, we're just on the ground.

• 11:10Drew Afualo?

  And that's enough.

• 11:11Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 11:11Drew Afualo?

  And my back hurts.

• 11:12Speaker 02

Exactly. So I was like, so for our 70th anniversary, I was like, yo, no beaches next year. And so, I had always told her, I was like, you know, funny enough, when we started dating, I was like, I think I want to get married around 26. Like, that was always the, I don't know why that was the age, I just feel like that's just more of a grown age, especially when I, we met when I was 17, so I was like, 26.

• 11:32Drew Afualo?

  That's light years away.

• 11:34Speaker 02

And so, and so she'd, she'd always known, like, 26 was the number, I'm 25 right now.

• 11:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 11:39Speaker 02

And so, we go to Rome, and, um, I don't know, like, two days before the Rome trip, so I'd planned this month, and I had told her parents, like, you know, I got the blessings from her mom, her dad, and her grandparents, because like, that's just what she wanted, so I was like, whatever you want, I'm gonna do. I need this, yes, so, whatever you want, I got you.

• 11:55Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 11:56Speaker 02

And, um, two days before the trip, I'm just, I'm looking up spots to like, propose, and it's just the same couple of spots on these videos, and I was like,

• 12:05Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 12:05Speaker 02

Wait a second, this is gonna be a propose in front of the Eiffel Tower situation. I was like, I don't want to do that.

• 12:11Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 12:12Speaker 02

Anybody that's proposing for the Eiffel Tower, good on you, I hope your marriage is great, I didn't want to do that.

• 12:17Drew Afualo?

No, there's just people around, too.

• 12:19Speaker 02

That too, and so- And then I was realizing like, you know, we, I mean, we're not roaming. We don't go to Rome. Like, Rome is cool, like, like, you know, what, like, what, like, it was just this, it's not home. It's not where we met, it's not where we fell in love, it's not where we went through our, our goods and our bads. So like, two days before, it's like, three in the morning, I can't sleep. And I'm outside on our patio, and I'm just like, I'm not gonna do it in Rome. So the next day, I call her parents, and I'm like, hey, I'm not doing it in Rome, but I'm doing it, I'm doing it, I swear. Don't worry, don't worry, I'm doing it.

• 12:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 12:52Speaker 02

And so, um, and I felt like she was gonna know. Like, like, there was gonna be some part of her, like, we're in Rome, we're in a very beautiful, historic city, like, this is probably where he's gonna do it.

• 13:01Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 13:01Speaker 02

And so, I did do it there. And so, uh, my mom loves family pictures. She's loved it since I was a kid. We do like, two family pictures a year, just cuz she likes it, I don't really get it, but whatever.

• 13:13Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 13:14Speaker 02

And so, I'm like, yo, my mom wants us to do family pictures, she wants you in this one.

• 13:18Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 13:18Speaker 02

So, that was very under the radar, she knew that was a normal thing, it was, it was great.

• 13:24Drew Afualo?

  Smart.

• 13:25Speaker 02

I was like, it was, I was like, it's weird, she like, has like, a whole venue, she has a photographer this time, so I was like, it's gonna be fun, she, my girl's like, okay. You know what I mean?

• 13:34Drew Afualo?

  I got your ass.

• 13:35Speaker 02

And so, I get the fit, and I was like, this is what she wants you to wear, and then my mom's in on it, I call her, I was like, this is what we're wearing, she's like, you guys look great. Um, and so, I come downstairs in my fit, and she's like, she's looking at it, she goes, yeah, I can tell your mom dressed you.

• 13:53Drew Afualo?

Hey, you're gonna feel real bad about that, after a couple hours.

• 13:57Speaker 02

I go, what? She goes, she goes, you look good, you just would never wear that. Well, uh, this is gonna be forever cemented into our lives, so, that's what's up.

• 14:06Drew Afualo?

  But you like it, right?

• 14:08Speaker 02

Yeah, right, she's like, yeah, I like it, she, I love it. And, uh, and so, that day, so we get there, and my main fear was just like, somehow it getting ruined.

• 14:17Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 14:17Speaker 02

Like, like, none of, none of our family and our friends were gonna ruin it, we didn't tell her grandma, cuz her grandma was gonna like, ruin it. She's gonna take her out to like breakfast and be like, so if Tony proposed, how would you feel? Like, her grandma did not know till the day of.

• 14:32Drew Afualo?

  You're right.

• 14:32Speaker 02

And so we get there, and I had it all planned with the photographer. I was like, so, we're gonna get there and I'm gonna tell you that my mom's running late, and then you're gonna go, alright, let's just get some pictures of you guys. So, good thing with my girl doesn't know, like, what photographers really do, because photographers don't just hand out free pictures, like, brother, I'm here to get paid. Like, I don't care about shooting your girl. And so, we get there, and my last fear was, we were gonna get there, get, like, because it was like this, um, it was this really beautiful kind of like garden. And I was scared that one of the people that we checked in with were gonna go, oh, for the engagement? Is that what you guys are here for? Because I was like, whoever was across-

• 15:07Drew Afualo?

  You're just so paranoid.

• 15:09Speaker 02

And so, my girl, my girl's like, are you okay? And I'm like, yeah, my mom's just stressing me out, like-

• 15:16Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, my fucking mom, dude.

• 15:17Speaker 02

My mom is stressful during picture days. Um, so we get there, and, uh, we're talking to the photographer, and I'm like, and he goes, I, I, I go, oh, we should just take a couple of pictures. And she goes, ah, we should probably wait till your mom gets here. Yo, Alyssa, you know I'm gonna come take these photos.

• 15:36Drew Afualo?

And if you insist on it, she'd be like, why do you want to take this damn picture so bad?

• 15:39Speaker 02

She was like, okay, we'll take it, like-

• 15:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 15:41Speaker 02

But, uh, it was hilarious, because I got these, like, dress pants on, and they were like the fancy ones, where like the cloth just kind of drapes over you.

• 15:48Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 15:48Speaker 02

And I have this, like, it's like, like-

• 15:52Drew Afualo?

  A gun?

• 15:53Speaker 02

And so, it's like, like, I have like my hand in one pocket, trying to cover the ring box. And then, um, there were these, so we're overlooking this like pavilion, and there were these green birds in Rome that she really loved. Like, Rome has these like green parrots. And I go, that looks like those green parrots in Rome. And she goes, really?

• 16:12Drew Afualo?

That got your fucking ass again.

• 16:14Speaker 02

But like, she was really looking for these birds. She's like, I don't know, I don't see it.

• 16:22Speaker 02

And she goes, she goes, what are you doing? She turns around, what are you doing?

• 16:26Drew Afualo?

  Same thing.

• 16:27Speaker 02

And I go, like, I didn't say it, but my thought, I'm like,

• 16:32Speaker 02

I was supposed to be your Prince Charming, this supposed to be the moment, like, what do you mean? And she's like, what's going on? She's tweaking for a little bit, like, she was, she was so shocked, she didn't even cry. Which, which surprised me, she cried like, in the car ride after.

• 16:44Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:44Speaker 02

That she's, I mean, boo hooing, but she goes, I'm a fiance. And he's like, is this real? And I was like, yeah, it's real.

• 16:51Drew Afualo?

  Sweet.

• 16:51Speaker 02

And so like, that was the only way I could have had the, like, the filming process. We haven't filmed, but like, the internet will never see the light of day, I hate you guys. Like, y'all are never, y'all are never seeing that. It's for us and our kids.

• 17:02Drew Afualo?

That's how I feel too, about it too.

• 17:04Speaker 02

But that was the only way I could have a photographer there, where it made sense. Or, bro was gonna be in the bushes.

• 17:09Drew Afualo?

  No, that's really.

• 17:10Speaker 02

So, it worked out, and it was like, a really cool moment. And I don't know if you saw the pictures, because I had posted like, the engagement pictures.

• 17:16Drew Afualo?

I sure did, that ring is beautiful.

• 17:18Speaker 02

Thank you, I appreciate, I designed it.

• 17:19Drew Afualo?

  I know, I can tell.

• 17:20Speaker 02

And so, um, I, uh, for my girl, butterflies are very like, uh, spiritual to her, like,

• 17:27Drew Afualo?

  Love.

• 17:27Speaker 02

Like, uh, you know, her, her, her great aunt who passed away, like, she loved butterflies. And so, whenever she sees a butterfly, she, um, she thinks of her. And then, our friend had passed away, so it was the same thing, like butterfly, she's always had a thing with butterflies.

• 17:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 17:40Speaker 02

And no bush, I'm getting goosebumps, like, the second she said yes, and I stood up and we hugged, I backed up from her, a butterfly lands on her.

• 17:47Drew Afualo?

  Oh, that's so sweet.

• 17:50Speaker 02

Ah, they're watching, like, like, somebody's watching us.

• 17:52Drew Afualo?

I love that, that gave me chills.

• 17:54Speaker 02

Yeah, I know, right? And so, the photographer's there, I'm like, yo, my man, get this photo.

• 17:58Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 17:59Speaker 02

And so, everybody's like, did he pay a butterfly to, to like, be there? And I'm like, yeah, it was just how it happened.

• 18:04Drew Afualo?

  That's the spirit.

• 18:05Speaker 02

But it was, uh, it was super nerve wracking, and she was like, I could tell something was wrong with you, like, you just felt so stressed, and like, so, like, just on edge.

• 18:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:14Speaker 02

And I was like, well, uh, this was one of the most stressful moments of my life, I'm just.

• 18:19Drew Afualo?

  I'm pulling off a heist.

• 18:20Speaker 02

And I was like, so I'm asking her, I was like, what's your, like, how is your experience with this? Because it's like, you don't know.

• 18:25Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:26Speaker 02

So, it's like, to you, it's like, you're chilling, like, I have been on edge for the past two months. Like I like I had the ring in our friend's house because I was scared she was gonna find it. The ring hasn't even seen our home yet.

• 18:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:39Speaker 02

And she was like, I was just, I knew you were stressed, but I thought it was because of your mom. Shout out to my mom in San Vici, man. But it was, but I mean, she said yes, and the only, the only slight problem is my brother's deployed. And so he's gonna be my best man. And so he won't be back till 2027, so we'll be engaged a little longer than we wanted to, but.

• 18:59Drew Afualo?

That's okay though, because you'll have lots of time then to plan, which is nice.

• 19:03Speaker 02

And she really wants it. Actually, I want it too, to be on our anniversary.

• 19:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 19:08Speaker 02

So just keep one anniversary day.

• 19:09Drew Afualo?

  That's tea.

• 19:10Speaker 02

  And so.

• 19:11Drew Afualo?

I know, I'm getting mine, I'm getting mine as close to it as I can.

• 19:14Speaker 02

  It's tough.

• 19:15Drew Afualo?

  It's hard, yeah.

• 19:16Speaker 02

Especially if it's on a weekday.

• 19:17Drew Afualo?

  I know.

• 19:18Speaker 02

I said that, I was like, yeah, like, it's gonna be on a Fri- or Thursday, and everybody was like, a Thursday?

• 19:24Drew Afualo?

You're gonna get married on a Thursday, nice.

• 19:26Speaker 02

It's like, it's like, damn, brother, money, good, doesn't matter what day it is.

• 19:31Drew Afualo?

Check clears regardless, so it doesn't matter.

• 19:33Speaker 02

But I think that everything's a blessing in disguise, so if it's gonna take a little longer, we'll just be a little less stressed out for the wedding.

• 19:39Drew Afualo?

  I think so.

• 19:40Speaker 02

  It'll be, you know.

• 19:41Drew Afualo?

Absolutely. I think that's so fun, how sweet.

• 19:44Speaker 02

Yeah, we're, look at us, man.

• 19:46Drew Afualo?

  Look at us.

• 19:46Speaker 02

  What are we, adults?

• 19:47Drew Afualo?

  We're old as fuck, dude.

• 19:51Drew Afualo?

And the same thing with my, my fiance was really, my man, he was really smart too, because the year before he proposed to me, for my birthday, he got me a ring specifically, he told me it was specifically for my wedding stack, so like, these are two different rings. And this one he gave to me on my birthday.

• 20:08Speaker 02

  Can I see it?

• 20:08Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah, of course.

• 20:13Drew Afualo?

I know, a lot of, I was like, yeah, he did a good job. I got my nails done the other day. And the woman, like, I got a pedicure, and the woman was doing my thing, and she goes, is that new? To my ring, which I don't go to that place nearly enough for her to remember me, so I don't think she did. And I was like, oh yeah, I mean, I recently got engaged, I got engaged last year, and she was like, that's really big. And I go, yeah, and she goes, what does he do for work? And I go, he's a certified personal trainer, and she goes, and he got you that?

• 20:42Speaker 02

  Yo, are we gonna fight?

• 20:43Drew Afualo?

I said, hey, you have a problem?

• 20:49Drew Afualo?

I literally told her, I go, yeah, can you believe it? And she goes, nice, nice. That's it, she didn't talk to me the rest of the time. Alright.

• 20:58Speaker 02

See with as a guy, it's like, oh, you're getting engaged. That's what's up, man.

• 21:04Speaker 02

  That's it, that's it.

• 21:05Drew Afualo?

  No follow ups.

• 21:06Speaker 02

Yeah, it's like, that's just the story of dudes like, my, my close homies, they all knew, cause like, you know, those are my brothers. But every, every like, like, it's such a different thing, like, I'm walking out in public. And like, the, like, girl, like, girls that know my content, they're like, oh, my God, I'm so happy for you. And dudes are like, yo, heard you getting engaged, bro. Shouts out. Thanks, man. Bye.

• 21:28Drew Afualo?

Thank you, appreciate that, yeah. Even now, when I, um, but when he got me this ring, it was to get my sizing, like, my accurate sizing. And he was like, it's smaller than the other rings I've gotten you. And I was like, okay. So I put it on, I was like, no, it fits perfect. And he was like, okay, perfect.

• 21:45Speaker 02

Yeah, my, uh, my girl told me, so like, like, first of all, I'm, I'm thirty pounds down since the last podcast. Me and my girl got on like a health journey. So we both lost weight. So I'm trying to like discreetly go, yeah, what is your ring size? There's no easy way to ask that. She's like, it's a six. And I was like, okay, but are you sure? She's like, yeah, it's a six. I go bet. She's not a six. She's maybe a, maybe a four or five, cause like, we've lost weight, but that was the last time she really like got a ring sized. And so.

• 22:15Drew Afualo?

Damn, she's smaller than a six?

• 22:16Speaker 02

Yeah, I think, I, I don't know ring sizes. I just know that.

• 22:19Drew Afualo?

No, no, there is smaller than a six, but six is small to me.

• 22:21Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 22:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 22:21Speaker 02

And so, and yeah, she, yeah, she a little, she a little dainty.

• 22:24Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, she's teeny.

• 22:26Speaker 02

But, uh, so, everything's working out. And she's like, oh, my God, the ring's going up and down. I'm like, oh, God. And like, and like, the jeweler was like, yo, make sure this is, this fits. And I'm like, this is what she told me. We're good.

• 22:39Drew Afualo?

  Trust me, it'll fit.

• 22:41Speaker 02

And so, and so we're now like, we gotta like talk to the jeweler and have it resized. But I mean, that's the only problem that comes from engagement. I'm okay with that.

• 22:49Drew Afualo?

Especially because it was so beautifully built.

• 22:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 22:52Drew Afualo?

It feels like, my, my fiance was like, I wanted it to look like you.

• 22:56Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 22:56Drew Afualo?

So I was like, I feel like her ring looks like her, which I think is so too.

• 22:59Speaker 02

Which is crazy, is like, a lot of, uh, a lot of people, when they, like, when I posted the picture, they were like, I could just tell he got this for her. And I was like, well, you're right.

• 23:10Speaker 02

I, I mean, I was looking at the ring websites, like, the, the, the famous ones. And I was like, this just kinda looks like a, I don't know, it's.

• 23:17Drew Afualo?

  Impersonal.

• 23:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:18Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:19Speaker 02

  Cold. Yeah, exactly.

• 23:20Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:20Speaker 02

And so I was like, I don't know, I want to do something else. My whole goal was to make her ring look like a tiara.

• 23:25Drew Afualo?

  Love that.

• 23:26Speaker 02

And so I didn't know about the whole, uh, engagement ring and like wedding ring.

• 23:32Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 23:32Speaker 02

I was like, yeah, you got one, you got one out of me. I don't know who made this two.

• 23:35Drew Afualo?

  This is more than enough.

• 23:36Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't know who made this two ring rule up. Uh, like that's capitalism right there, like this is love.

• 23:41Drew Afualo?

You get one, I get two.

• 23:42Speaker 02

Yeah. You know what's crazy? I don't even have mine. We keep forgetting to get mine.

• 23:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:46Speaker 02

  I forgot to get mine.

• 23:47Drew Afualo?

You know what's nuts about my fiance? His hand on this hand, the left hand specifically, his three middle fingers, including the ring finger, are permanently bent up like this because of football.

• 23:59Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:59Drew Afualo?

It's been like this forever, like literally for probably over 10 years. And so nothing, like his knuckles are literally this big. They're so fat.

• 24:07Speaker 02

They gotta get past the knuckles to get the ring.

• 24:09Drew Afualo?

So he was like, maybe I'll just tattoo it. I go, you're funny. Um, what we're gonna do is break those fingers, reset them, and then you'll get your wedding ring. And he was like, uh, he's like, I don't want to break them. And it's not even because he doesn't want to wear a ring. It's literally because he's just, he likes how his fingers are.

• 24:25Speaker 02

Yeah, it's cool. I was thinking, that's kind of cool. I'm a dude.

• 24:31Drew Afualo?

I'm pissed off because he's gonna be like, I told you. Cause he, he's like attached to them. Like he was like, no, it's fine. Like they're just like, and his whole hand is like this. I don't know how he does anything.

• 24:43Speaker 02

It's kind of cool. War stories, you know? Like that's how I feel. Like when I got hit by that car, I got this, I got this scar. And I was like, yeah, I got hit by a car, survived.

• 24:52Drew Afualo?

And you can see it right here.

• 24:55Speaker 02

Whole time I was on the scooter, the Tesla like tapped me.

• 25:00Drew Afualo?

I'm so pissed off. You said that. He's gonna be like, I told you, I told you.

• 25:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 25:03Drew Afualo?

Or he was saying, I'll get one with like a latch. And I'm all, what are you nuts?

• 25:08Speaker 02

  I would lose that.

• 25:09Drew Afualo?

What are you talking about? Latch?

• 25:11Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 25:11Drew Afualo?

What are we, blue collar workers? We're blue collar coworkers?

• 25:14Speaker 02

You gotta get the elastic one.

• 25:17Drew Afualo?

That's what I was like, no, no, actually, no.

• 25:20Speaker 02

Yo, for this, for this episode, you know how YouTube has like the, the timestamps? Like you can skip to it. Like this whole timestamp is gonna be, if you're single, skip it.

• 25:28Drew Afualo?

You won't give a fuck about this, but I promise.

• 25:33Drew Afualo?

Okay, let's circle back to work.

• 25:35Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 25:36Drew Afualo?

To us being professional clowns for a living.

• 25:37Speaker 02

  Yeah, exactly.

• 25:38Drew Afualo?

  How's work going for you?

• 25:39Speaker 02

  It's crazy.

• 25:40Drew Afualo?

It's been nuts for you, I bet.

• 25:42Speaker 02

Yeah, I'm in this whole new like, I feel like I'm forcing like rebirth all the time. Like I feel like I have this just fear of like if you're not trying, you're dying.

• 25:51Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 25:52Speaker 02

And so with content, I've, I've realized, okay, like, I've operated at the highest level as a content creator. Like, you're lucky if you get to make it as a content creator.

• 26:02Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 26:03Speaker 02

You're even luckier if you can do more things.

• 26:06Drew Afualo?

Like do anything past it, yeah.

• 26:08Speaker 02

So, uh, shouts out to you. Um, and so like, I've always known I can, I can make these funny jokes, but I've always had ideas of stories. So I'm writing this, um, I'm writing this show. I was actually writing it right before this episode.

• 26:21Drew Afualo?

  Nice.

• 26:22Speaker 02

And I can't figure out the problem to progress the plot.

• 26:26Drew Afualo?

  Tea, okay.

• 26:27Speaker 02

So like, the whole Uber ride here, I'm just...

• 26:29Drew Afualo?

  You're in the think tank.

• 26:30Speaker 02

I'm like, I'm kinda pissed. I'm like, I can't figure this out. I gotta do this podcast. But you're a really great host, so it's like, I'm already having fun.

• 26:38Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 26:38Speaker 02

But it's like, it's such a different, and, and I'm sure you know this, cause like, we get on our phones and, "Hey guys, this is that and the third post", million views.

• 26:46Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 26:46Speaker 02

  You know?

• 26:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 26:47Speaker 02

It is a million views. Don't get mad at me for saying that.

• 26:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, sorry.

• 26:50Speaker 02

Yeah, we're like, we're like that.

• 26:51Drew Afualo?

Hey, don't hate the player, hate the game. You know what I mean?

• 26:53Speaker 02

So it's just, I, I, I'm sure you can get this with your book, like it's so different, cause it's like, you're in the lab.

• 26:58Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 26:59Speaker 02

For so long, and you're trying to get like, how do you feel about this, or like, trying to get constructive criticism?

• 27:05Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 27:05Speaker 02

Then like, the part that I haven't got to, obviously, is like the putting it out part. But, um, it's a, there's no instant gratification.

• 27:13Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 27:13Speaker 02

But that's kind of better, cause it's like, you know, when you put out a book or you put out a show, it could be consumed for years.

• 27:20Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 27:21Speaker 02

  It'll even live past you.

• 27:22Drew Afualo?

  Totally.

• 27:22Speaker 02

And so, that's the thing that I'm really trying to wrap my head around, like, no more quick likes, shares, comments. It's, you're like in a dark room, typing away. Like, I'm starting to hate that, the, the line. The line that just pulses, waiting for you to write. I'm like, oh my god, bro. But, um... I I know I would just wanna keep going and I think that like the progression of the content that I make

• 27:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 27:48Speaker 02

is a show or a movie, maybe acting, I just don't know.

• 27:51Drew Afualo?

I feel like you should try acting, honestly.

• 27:53Speaker 02

I'll try it, but I'm like, I'm I'm kinda like a pessimist until I do it. I'm like, ah, I wouldn't wanna do that and then I'm like super in love with it when I do it. I'm like, oh my god, this is amazing.

• 28:02Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 28:02Speaker 02

And so my girl, my girl is like.

• 28:04Drew Afualo?

  And you've been in commercials.

• 28:04Speaker 02

Yeah, I have. It's, I mean, yeah, but like with the commercials I've been in, I've I wrote it.

• 28:10Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you're like playing yourself, same, yeah.

• 28:13Speaker 02

And so, and that's another thing I've always, like, I don't wanna cut my hair for a role. I'm very attached to the way I look.

• 28:18Drew Afualo?

  Same.

• 28:19Speaker 02

And so it's like, oh, we have this crazy role for the new Avengers, shave your head.

• 28:25Drew Afualo?

  You gotta be bald, though.

• 28:25Speaker 02

Yeah, bro, unless I'm playing Tony Stark, I don't know about that, man. But um, but so, I'll try, I'll definitely try it. I I wanna try everything before I go.

• 28:35Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 28:36Speaker 02

Um, and so, right now, I'll try this writing and I'll try some acting, but I think I like seeing the story put together more than I would like putting it together as an actor.

• 28:46Drew Afualo?

  I see.

• 28:46Speaker 02

So like, I I'd love to write.

• 28:48Drew Afualo?

Being put in it versus being like steer, spearing it, I guess you should say.

• 28:52Speaker 02

And when you're in comedy, it's very secular. It's like, no, I wanna be me cuz I'm telling the jokes. So it's like, if I'm somebody else, I have to act like somebody else.

• 29:01Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 29:01Speaker 02

But myself is how I got here.

• 29:03Drew Afualo?

  Totally.

• 29:04Speaker 02

And so it's just weird, like, like you can't be yourself cuz you're playing a part, but I mean, I don't know, I'm I'm here for the ride and and I feel like, and this goes for like a lot of people who are trying different things. If you walk in the direction,

• 29:19Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 29:19Speaker 02

you may not get to where you thought you were gonna go,

• 29:22Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 29:22Speaker 02

but you'll go to another destination.

• 29:24Drew Afualo?

  Right, absolutely.

• 29:24Speaker 02

  And like, like, it'll.

• 29:25Drew Afualo?

  You're still moving forward.

• 29:26Speaker 02

Yeah, it'll follow, like, like the the the energy will follow you and you'll, it's like, maybe you wanted to write a show, you didn't write the show, but you became an actor on the show.

• 29:34Drew Afualo?

  Right, totally.

• 29:35Speaker 02

It's like, well, I moved forward and I got that. So like, I think um, once you are successful in something, you learn that, okay, everything takes time, and if I was able to talk to myself, like, imagine, when did you start making content?

• 29:50Drew Afualo?

Like, for realzies, I'd probably say twenty twenty-two.

• 29:53Speaker 02

  And you were how old?

• 30:00Speaker 00

• 30:33Drew Afualo?

  26, I think, 25, 26?

• 30:35Speaker 02

So imagine if you, like, you could go back in time right now to your 26-year-old self. Who's like, is the content worth it? Is this something I even really want to do? And you're like, yo, keep doing it. You're gonna be gravy by the time you get to my age.

• 30:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 30:50Speaker 02

And so like, I think about that, like, if I could, if I could break that time barrier, my future self would be like, bro, you're good.

• 30:56Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 30:56Speaker 02

  Relax.

• 30:57Drew Afualo?

  Absolutely.

• 30:57Speaker 02

And so like, even though I can't have him tell me that, I believe that.

• 31:02Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 31:03Speaker 02

And so that, that regulates my moods throughout the day.

• 31:05Drew Afualo?

  You're manifesting.

• 31:06Speaker 02

  Exactly.

• 31:06Drew Afualo?

Absolutely. Because you did this. And it was like, this felt impossible at one point too, I'm sure. It did to me too. I get what you mean though about being almost re-inspired. Because you and I, obviously, blew up on TikTok. But like, at the same time, we also, we've been known for being funny. And mine is very specific. Yours is pretty, is pretty more general, I would say. But like, we're known for being funny, which is cool. But like, for me, doing other projects outside of that, it's like, helping fill my cup again.

• 31:38Speaker 02

Outside of comedy or outside of content?

• 31:40Drew Afualo?

Outside of content, specifically. And even comedy, like, you know, I, I do enjoy being funny. I do enjoy entertaining. But there are other things I really love to do too, that are not solely...

• 31:48Speaker 02

  More serious.

• 31:49Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, I have like... I've had meetings, a ton of meetings lately about, I have a documentary idea I've had for a while that I, that has nothing to do with me, but it is something I feel very passionate about. And then obviously my book, but my book had to do with me too, to an extent, but I am writing another book. That's not having anything to do with me, it's fiction.

• 32:08Speaker 02

  What?

• 32:09Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, so.

• 32:09Speaker 02

No way, that's fire. I always wanted to do that.

• 32:12Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm doing fiction. I think you would be wonderful at it because you love anime.

• 32:15Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 32:15Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so I think like, I'm doing fiction fantasy.

• 32:19Speaker 02

Would you make it a movie? I guess that's, that's like step ten, but.

• 32:22Drew Afualo?

Hell, yeah, bitch. I literally said that. I call it my Lin-Manuel Miranda plan. Because then I'm like, I'm gonna unfold it. I'm gonna write it, I'm gonna sell it, and then I'm gonna say you can have it. You just gotta cast me, I'm a huge part of it.

• 32:35Speaker 02

  Right, right.

• 32:36Drew Afualo?

I'm, I am principal cast. Unfortunately, I come with it. No, I can't sing. That's literally, that's kind of my vibe for, for that, but doing the other book is like refilling my cup. Like it's really re-inspiring me in a different way. So I get what you mean, like you, you're like, okay, I did this. And I have so much more I want to do too. So like, it's kind of expanding into other mediums is giving you the chance to do that, which is awesome.

• 32:58Speaker 02

Do you have the problem of like wanting to do everything and don't know which road to take?

• 33:04Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 33:05Speaker 02

  Like, bro, that's so.

• 33:06Drew Afualo?

I want to do music so bad, can't sing, can't play an instrument. You know what I decided? DJ.

• 33:10Speaker 02

  Really?

• 33:11Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so I got a bunch of DJ stuff for Christmas last year. And I've been working on it.

• 33:15Speaker 02

  That's fire.

• 33:15Drew Afualo?

I'm trash right now, but just give me a couple of months. I literally said, I'll see you in that Sahara ten.

• 33:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:21Drew Afualo?

  On my headline.

• 33:22Speaker 02

  What's it called, Burning Man?

• 33:23Drew Afualo?

Yeah, oh bitch, I'm coming for Diplo's neck, sorry. I'm like, and one of my friends asked me like, oh, if you're gonna DJ like, who, who's the audience? Like, who are you looking for? I said, the horse.

• 33:32Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:33Drew Afualo?

  Nobody shakes ass anymore.

• 33:34Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:35Drew Afualo?

  The club is dead.

• 33:36Speaker 02

We used to have like crazy mashups.

• 33:38Drew Afualo?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 33:39Speaker 02

And so like, that's kind of gone. I mean, I'm not too versed in DJ culture, you know what I mean? Some DJs are watching this mad as hell, but.

• 33:48Drew Afualo?

  Sorry, my bad.

• 33:49Speaker 02

From when I go out, it's like, it's like the hottest songs out right now. Some of them are good. It's either that or like throwbacks. And I can always appreciate throwbacks, but like, bro, like, there's some music, like.

• 34:00Drew Afualo?

What I'm saying, and then I saw Tyler, the creator, when his new album came out.

• 34:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 34:04Drew Afualo?

I saw him say that when he played it, he had no phones, like for the first time. But he said he wanted it, he wanted people to dance.

• 34:11Speaker 02

Don't come if you're not dancing.

• 34:12Drew Afualo?

That's what he said, I wanted people to fucking dance, and because he said the club is dead, and you're so deep for that, you're so right. So that's why I was like, I want to DJ for people like that, people who want to shake their ass, that's what I want to do. Especially because when I was in college, that was like all I did. Um, like going to the club and stuff, so fun.

• 34:28Speaker 02

  You went to college?

• 34:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 34:30Speaker 02

  Dork. I quit.

• 34:34Drew Afualo?

I sure did, barely made it out, I sure did, just kidding, I was a really good student, honestly.

• 34:39Speaker 02

It was crazy, I was a good student too. I like, I, bro, I think we talked about it last time, like, I did all these AP and honors classes, and they were like, yeah, it doesn't matter, you still got to retake these classes. And I was like, I got the college credit.

• 34:51Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 34:51Speaker 02

And they were like, well, you'll graduate with extra credits, hey, do you want me to punch you in the chest?

• 34:56Speaker 02

  These don't exist.

• 34:57Drew Afualo?

  For who?

• 34:59Speaker 02

Well, I don't keep, I can't put this in my pocket and walk away with it. And so.

• 35:03Drew Afualo?

Well, I mean, I graduated from college, but um, um, ask me if I'm using that now.

• 35:07Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 35:08Drew Afualo?

Just kidding, I mean, I am kind of, because I. I had journalism and communications. So I learned how to talk in front of a camera and edit.

• 35:15Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 35:15Drew Afualo?

But the way I learned how to talk in front of a camera, like I've said before, if you go back and look at my old, old videos from like years ago. My voice sounds a lot higher.

• 35:23Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 35:23Drew Afualo?

And it's because my, I was like, holding that pitch that I learned in journalism school, which was like. I will say it's kind of one of my teacher's fault, because she told me, my voice is so deep, it would be more appealing. If I spoke in a higher, like, tone. Which, go fuck yourself, but also, but I did, and now when I watch my old videos, I'm like, I sound like Mickey Mouse. That shit's embarrassing.

• 35:44Speaker 02

My, mine is, mine is more like the enunciation, because like, in the south, like, you know, we'll slur words, or just, you know, we're like, yin, yin. Like, stuff like that, and so like, if you listen to my old videos, like, sometimes I'm like, what am I saying? And I'm like, so like, I, you got to remember, when you're doing this, is like, you have to appeal to everybody, at least a little bit.

• 36:05Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 36:05Speaker 02

And so like, my enunciation has gotten way better.

• 36:08Drew Afualo?

And we know who we're talking about.

• 36:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:10Drew Afualo?

  White people.

• 36:10Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:12Drew Afualo?

They have to like us, unfortunately.

• 36:14Speaker 02

  Yeah, they do.

• 36:14Drew Afualo?

They have to be able to digest our content to some extent. It's true.

• 36:18Speaker 02

You know what's crazy is I really got that like, oh, I got, oh, I gotta do some white people jokes like, because like, you know, I've lived in the South, I've lived in like a predominantly black neighborhood my whole life. My sister's black. I've just been surrounded by culture like my whole life.

• 36:32Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 36:33Speaker 02

  And then so I had.

• 36:34Drew Afualo?

  It's obvious. I don't know if it's obvious.

• 36:36Speaker 02

  No way, right?

• 36:38Drew Afualo?

And now it's time for Finding Comfort in the Chaos, brought to you by Amazon. You experience so many firsts in college. The first time you have to cook for yourself, the first time you have to make friends as an adult, the first time no one's reminding you to finish your homework. It can feel like total chaos, but every first is an opportunity to learn what you need to succeed. And thanks to Amazon, comfort is never far away. For me, one of my must haves for my college dorm was in fact a microwave. I needed that thing desperately. You can cook anything in a microwave, including brownies or cookies. Look it up. But it saved my behind when I was in college. So I know y'all will really want to have one in your dorm too.

• 37:23Drew Afualo?

So I know y'all will need a microwave and you can find a great one on Amazon. Remember that the chaos of college is inevitable. As much as you prepare, there will always be firsts that take you by surprise. But that's what it's really all about. Embracing those formative experiences and learning from them. With Amazon's great deals and everyday low prices, you can find comfort in the chaos. Shop off to college at Amazon. Save on college, save the everyday.

• 37:50Speaker 02

And so I was, it was this one time, I didn't have a joke idea and I was like really pissed off about it. But I do know how the music industry works because I've done so many jokes about music that the artists I've made jokes about have invited me to studio sessions and stuff like that. So I've learned about stuff like that and the, um, the, uh, what's the word I'm looking for? The promotional aspect, like rollouts.

• 38:12Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 38:13Speaker 02

And so, uh, at the time, uh, it was Espresso, what's her name? Uh, Sabrina Carpenter. Espresso.

• 38:21Drew Afualo?

  What's Espresso's name?

• 38:22Speaker 02

Cappuccino, I don't know. Uh, but she, she was blowing up because she was, she would go into a different city and like have like a sexual, like bar for that city.

• 38:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 38:31Speaker 02

She would rhyme like whatever the, the, the song was.

• 38:34Drew Afualo?

Yes, I know what you mean, yeah.

• 38:35Speaker 02

And so I'm scrolling and I see it and I'm like, this is weird because this is before Espresso and I, I, I'm, I'm not too well versed on Sabrina Carpenter either.

• 38:43Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 38:43Speaker 02

But, um, it was, it was like a montage of her doing it and the video had like three million likes.

• 38:49Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 38:49Speaker 02

Now views like, so I was like, there's a market here.

• 38:54Speaker 02

Uh, maybe I'm not a part of the market.

• 38:55Drew Afualo?

Why people are eating this up, I may need to look into it.

• 38:57Speaker 02

And so I made the joke, keep in mind, at the time, I, and I still think to this day, I've never really heard a full Sabrina Carpenter song. She don't make music for me, it's fine, that's what's up.

• 39:06Drew Afualo?

  You're right.

• 39:06Speaker 02

And so I made a joke about like how she did it, like I, I, my joke was like, I was like, I'm in Niagara Falls, with big balls, like, like just some, just some funny ass shit. That shit ended up getting like seven million views. Never heard a Sabrina Carpenter song. I know her from Girl Meets World, like, you know what I mean? And so I was like, oh, I'm about to, I'm about to tap in with, with the collared shirts and the golfers.

• 39:32Drew Afualo?

Did you tap into Taylor Swift?

• 39:36Drew Afualo?

  I said, there's a huge one there.

• 39:38Speaker 02

Actually, actually, yeah, I did. I, I, I did a joke about if, uh, if, if Taylor Swift was a dude, and she made the same exact songs, the songs are kinda creepy. What song did I do, um, the, the You Belong, You Belong With Me?

• 39:53Drew Afualo?

  You Belong With Me, yeah.

• 39:54Speaker 02

And I was like, if a dude sang that, yo bro, he's getting locked up, like.

• 39:58Drew Afualo?

You're right, because, uh, because when women do it, it's okay.

• 40:00Speaker 02

  Yeah. But it's like.

• 40:02Drew Afualo?

I gave you the pass, it's okay, it's okay when you do it. They can't do anything, but you can do it.

• 40:06Speaker 02

I'm hearing the lyrics, she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts, and I'm like, ah, what's wrong with short skirts? Bro, like, you know what I mean?

• 40:16Drew Afualo?

No, I know, it's a very pickney song. It's a very internalized misogyny song.

• 40:20Speaker 02

And so I was like, yo, if a dude made this, bro, he's getting, he's. gonna be in the next Drewski skit like it's a rap like

• 40:26Drew Afualo?

can I tell you the the thing I've been seeing lately where people are like I think Drewski is gonna do this next I've been seeing the forty and under like football teams have you been seeing those videos on TikTok lately?

• 40:37Speaker 02

of like what Drewski is gonna do?

• 40:38Drew Afualo?

yeah like they're basically in the comments they're saying this is gonna be Drewski's next

• 40:41Speaker 02

oh I know what you're talking about

• 40:43Drew Afualo?

videos of men who are like in their mid thirties and they're playing tackle football my man and I okay you and I can connect on this because unfortunately my audience um they do not fuck with sports like at all and that is unfortunately the straightest most man part of my brain is sports humor specifically and I was like laughing my ass off with my fiance yesterday about it

• 41:07Speaker 02

  wearing pads that don't fit

• 41:09Drew Afualo?

yeah and they had that three sixty camera they have in like the the Times Square like going around them and they're like media day and someone said imagine they show up late for work and they're like sorry I was at media day for their tackle football team and they're thirty eight

• 41:22Speaker 02

they they tweet to like four followers locked in

• 41:28Drew Afualo?

I was just watching and I was like I can't believe I was like telling my my fiance I was like honestly I think the reason why I find it so funny and pathetic when men play football at that age and then take it that seriously is because football is literally just like the biggest the fastest the strongest

• 41:45Speaker 02

  and it's none of y'all

• 41:46Drew Afualo?

no and they wanna be the biggest the fastest the strongest that's as close as they can get you can't even do indoor

• 41:52Speaker 02

yeah there's a reason football players like aren't forty

• 41:57Speaker 02

  that's why uh

• 41:58Drew Afualo?

  they could never make it

• 41:59Speaker 02

  like only only uh uh

• 42:01Drew Afualo?

  quarterbacks

• 42:02Speaker 02

quarterbacks only quarterbacks can age cuz they don't get hit they get hit the least

• 42:05Drew Afualo?

exactly that's why baseball players can grow up to be fat and old and it's because they're just running there's no tackling

• 42:10Speaker 02

peak of their sport they just got done scarfing on two hot dogs you know what I mean like

• 42:17Drew Afualo?

  smoking cigars at the plate

• 42:19Speaker 02

it used to be it used to be hard drugs that they were doing back in the day so it's like they switched from that to unhealthy diets like alright fire and they're hitting it out the park like

• 42:29Drew Afualo?

Wait, back to, I wanna circle back to work really quick, cuz I know you said you would love to do something fiction. What would you like to do?

• 42:36Speaker 02

  Ah, bro, mythology. I have, I have a, I have a mythology, it's a, it's not a book, but it's a, it's a movie. It's a horror movie.

• 42:43Drew Afualo?

Ooh, I love that. Oh, cuz you love the Percy Jackson books? I, that's one of the fun facts about you.

• 42:47Speaker 02

  Look, she knows her stuff.

• 42:49Drew Afualo?

What a fun fact about you is that you're a huge fan of the Percy Jackson book series?

• 42:54Speaker 02

Percy Jackson saved my life. Yeah, I don't understand, but that's my older brother, bro. Like, I'm the oldest.

• 42:59Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 43:00Speaker 02

And I was going through, like, like, my childhood wasn't the best, and I'm just, I opened a book and escaped, and I was like, if Percy's battling the god of war, you know what I mean? We could fight this homelessness, mom.

• 43:10Drew Afualo?

  That's so sweet.

• 43:12Speaker 02

And so, and so, I actually met Rick Riordan, like, this was before any content, I was like, I don't know, like, seventeen, and he had just came out with a book, and I'm just there. Did you sign it, even though your name's on it already? And I still have the book.

• 43:24Drew Afualo?

  That's so sweet.

• 43:26Speaker 02

And so, it's like, like, that, like, and he's got ADHD, which is a big, cuz it's like, I, as a kid, like, first of all, you got foreign parents, they don't believe in that shit anyway. You're just a little loud. And it's like, I don't know, I don't think I'm just a little loud. Like, I can't think, like, literally.

• 43:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 43:41Speaker 02

And so, um, that was really cool, cuz Rick Riordan's son has, um, ADHD and dyslexia. So that's what he incorporated in all the Demi guys, is they all have this. And so, I was just in there, and I was like, it's obvious, I'm the son of Poseidon. I mean, this is, like, this is me, like. And so, that got me into just so many other stories and reading, and then anime. I like, I always tell people this, like, if you, if you don't tap into anime because it's animated, and I, I can understand as Americans, like, when you think of animation, you think of cartoon.

• 44:13Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 44:14Speaker 02

Watch some Attack on Titan. And tell me that's the same as Adventure Time. Like, bro, like, like.

• 44:20Drew Afualo?

  And Adventure Time's awesome.

• 44:21Speaker 02

  It is great.

• 44:22Drew Afualo?

  What y'all talking about?

• 44:23Speaker 02

But, but, I don't know, I, I feel like, I, I feel like people are like, oh, I'm older, so I can't watch that stuff, and I'm like, yo, you're missing out on some of the best stories.

• 44:31Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 44:32Speaker 02

  I don't know what's going on in Japan. I don't know what.

• 44:34Drew Afualo?

I don't know what they're cooking up over there.

• 44:36Speaker 02

I, I actually have a theory, a, at, like, cuz you know. The Ja- the Ja- have you ever been to Japan?

• 44:40Drew Afualo?

  No, I haven't.

• 44:41Speaker 02

So like it's very, it's very structured.

• 44:43Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 44:43Speaker 02

You know, it like, like the, like the saying is like, uh, nails that stick out get hammered down. And so, uh, and, and like, by the way, telling Japanese people, I don't know if I'm out of my range talking about this, but like, I feel like when you, when somebody is locked into something societally, personally, emotionally.

• 44:59Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 45:00Speaker 02

They tend to do things like, like, you know, that's, I feel like that's where creation comes from. So I'm like, okay, if you think about Japan, it's very structured, it's very, there's so many rules societally you have to follow. Like if your boss asks you to like go out for a drink, like it's rude if you say no.

• 45:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 45:15Speaker 02

Imagine if your boss asked you to, yeah, my man.

• 45:20Drew Afualo?

I'll see you tomorrow morning at nine.

• 45:22Speaker 02

  Hopefully. I might call out.

• 45:23Drew Afualo?

  And even that's a maybe.

• 45:25Speaker 02

And so I'm like, like, cause I was thinking like, what is it about this island? Where these people are coming up with the best stories and magic, and I just wonder, cause I'm trying to, I'm trying to understand people more as, as somebody who's writing. What makes people tick? Like what makes us have grit? What makes us have creativity?

• 45:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 45:42Speaker 02

And I wonder if it's like, if you sanction people in a way where it's like, we have to follow these rules. The only way they can break out is like mentally. So it's like, what if that's where all these stories come from?

• 45:50Drew Afualo?

  That's how they get creative.

• 45:51Speaker 02

Exact, cause it's the same thing, like when someone goes through a traumatic experience, like you're encased in that, like that never leaves you.

• 45:57Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 45:57Speaker 02

But it's like in a way you can write yourself out of that with a, with a story and.

• 46:04Speaker 02

And so I just wonder like if that has any correlation. And so I've been putting myself in that thought process for, if I wanna write a character, like what makes them tick? But then I realized like, okay, well, what makes me tick?

• 46:16Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 46:17Speaker 02

Like what makes, and, and I'm like, since you have had success, you know, it's like, uh, no matter what anybody else says, I'm just gonna get the shit done.

• 46:25Drew Afualo?

  You're right.

• 46:26Speaker 02

And so I've always wondered like, why other people who don't have that mentality and they kinda give up on themselves prematurely? But there's a lot of talent out here.

• 46:34Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 46:35Speaker 02

It's just people give up on themselves. So I wonder what it is that makes me not give up on myself? And makes the next person who has just as much talent.

• 46:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 46:45Speaker 02

Ah, he just can't do it.

• 46:46Drew Afualo?

I think it's just a fear of being perceived, to be honest. Like it's fear of rejection in a lot of ways. It's like if I do it and I fail, then I'm, that's embarrassing. Which like the only way to find out is to do it. Even like I had Robbie Hoffman on when she was on, she's longstanding comic, she's an actress, like she's doing it all. She even, I asked her, do you have any advice for anyone who's like aspiring artist? She goes, if you're asking me, you're not meant for it. Sorry. Like she was like, that's it, that's it. You're asking me, you have doubt, don't do it. And she's like, were you sitting around asking yourself, oh, I wonder if I can be a TikTok star?

• 47:20Drew Afualo?

And she goes, right, you just did it. So she was saying, that's, that's what I think the differentiator is, is like, you and I aren't afraid to put ourselves out there because whatever's on the other side, clearly it's worked out for us, right? So like, thank God we did. But I think what stops people is that, is fear of embarrassment.

• 47:37Speaker 02

And that's why the two things I hate, especially being in this field, is like, one, you get to, you get to a point where you stop becoming the people's champ. It's like you, people develop a separation, like, that's easy for you to say, Drew.

• 47:55Speaker 02

Exactly. I'm not a nepo baby. I'm trying to create nepo babies, but I'm not one.

• 47:59Drew Afualo?

Oh, my God, literally someone called me a nepo baby the other day.

• 48:03Speaker 02

Did you call your mom and dad?

• 48:04Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was like, I would be the worst nepo, like, oh, no, they called me an industry plant. They picked the worst bitch. If they picked me, I'm annoying and confrontational.

• 48:16Speaker 02

  What industry do you think?

• 48:19Drew Afualo?

What the fuck, what am I infiltrating exactly? That's why I, I agree with you though. And I think like, that's the, the biggest difference between I think who succeeds and who doesn't. Cause you and I did, we did it for the love of the game. And the game alone for how fucking long? I wasn't making jack shit off content. For years, for so long. And you know, that was before TikTok raised that CPM and started paying for real. Because when I was hitting eight, nine million, every video I posted every day, I'd get like 20 bucks off that shit. Now I could clock way more than that.

• 48:53Speaker 02

But you make videos over a minute long. I don't, like, I do it now, but like.

• 48:57Drew Afualo?

  Now I do, yeah.

• 48:59Speaker 02

What's hilarious is people don't understand TikTok is what I get paid the least on.

• 49:03Drew Afualo?

  Same.

• 49:04Speaker 02

Y'all don't get it. We're like, you know what I mean? But the two things that I've always hated is the separation between people's champ and like, like, oh, well, it's easy for you to say, because now you're, you're, you're gone. You're not a regular person anymore. You're crazy. And the second thing is those be the first, not those specific people, but when people give up on themselves and they're afraid of being perceived and stuff, they're also the first ones to like shit on your thing.

• 49:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 49:29Speaker 02

Like, it's like, oh, this is like, damn, you could have got your hair done before the video or, I don't know, the video starts a little, like, the video is kind of boring.

• 49:36Drew Afualo?

  Not that funny.

• 49:37Speaker 02

I don't realize, like, bro, if somebody made a video and somebody was like, this ain't that funny.

• 49:45Speaker 00

• 50:17Speaker 02

Like, bro, they delete their phone.

• 50:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, hello?

• 50:20Speaker 02

Yeah, bro, like, like, they would throw their phone away. And I'm like, and like, that's the thing is like, you have to believe in yourself to the point where it's like, yo, like, bro, even my mom was kicked me out when I, when I started doing this shit. I feel her, she's from a different country, she's from a different time, like, I understand why you did it. But it's like, I had to go so far against the grain where it's like, you really only have you and yourself. And like, we have partners, but even with them, as much as they can understand, it's like, like, it, it's, there's still a separation, because it's like, y'all aren't content creators.

• 50:53Drew Afualo?

It's true, yeah. It's true, because some of the problems you encounter, like, no one can help you deal with, like, literally nobody you know in the world can help you until you make friends doing the same shit. Like, and that's why, that's one of the first things I tell people, I'm like, if they start coming up in this business really fast. And they like they just skyrocket and then we hang out and they ask me for advice. I go first, are you in therapy? Second, do you have any friends in this industry specifically? Make friends, like be nice to people, be kind to foster connection because nobody can relate to your fucking problems anymore. And nobody gives a fuck.

• 51:28Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like if I was a nurse, if I was a doctor, if I was a teacher, I wouldn't want to hear about my fucking. They're stupid compared to yours. Like, that's why I'm like, I, you need friends who do this for a living. Because no one can relate and no one cares and they shouldn't because this is a silly made up job. So like, it's okay. We, we need to lean on each other in that sense. That's why sometimes if I meet uh, content creators out in the wild. And I know they don't have any, they don't have many friends. I'm like. Yeah, yeah, I'm like, you need, you need someone, you need someone.

• 51:58Speaker 02

My thing is, uh, you ever been in a conversation with a content creator and they're complaining and then they realize they're complaining? Cause our life isn't that worth complaining about. And they're like, ah, you know what? Never mind. And I'm like, no, no, no, bro. I understand that every, like, somebody on the planet has it worse than you. That doesn't mean you can't complain to me.

• 52:15Drew Afualo?

Right. And it's also very in- invalidating to yourself. When you invalidate your own problems, when you say that, which is like, again, like. There is a, a world in which both can exist. It's just knowing the right person to say it to. And your comment about like, if someone got a hate comment, they would delete their whole shit. You're right. I say that constantly because now, especially now when I like do talks and stuff and they ask me, oh, I wanna. Be a content creator or I wanna build a following. I, the first thing I always ask is like, for what? Like, is it for free shit and money? Because if that's the case, you're not gonna make it. And everybody's doing that. Like, everybody wants free shit and everybody wants money.

• 52:52Speaker 02

You gotta love, you gotta, whatever you do, you have to love it.

• 52:54Drew Afualo?

And you have to commit to not making any money doing it. Like, if you never made another dollar, would you keep doing this? Cause the answer was yes to me when I first started, especially even now. But sometimes now I'm like.

• 53:11Drew Afualo?

Sometimes it does feel like that. Um, but I think. Your comment about hate is so funny because I've told people, do you cringe or like cave in on yourself at the thought of someone coming on your shit? And even, not even commenting on the content of your video, just saying, "You're ugly."

• 53:26Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:27Drew Afualo?

  Does that bother you?

• 53:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:28Drew Afualo?

Cause if it does, don't do this.

• 53:29Speaker 02

Yeah. There was one comment that bothered me, like, and it stuck with me my whole career.

• 53:34Drew Afualo?

  Really?

• 53:34Speaker 02

Somebody was like, it wasn't even like me, they were like, "Yo, when you look at the camera straight on, I can't see your ears." I'm like, "Bro, like, bro, I've been hardened for years doing content." And that comment has, so like, have you ever noticed, I'll be like, I'll be like this. What's up, y'all?

• 53:52Drew Afualo?

You're like, changing angles, just in case.

• 53:56Speaker 02

One that I've always faced is the Russ comments. Man, I'm about to block Russ, man, like, I'm about to block his ass. I don't fuck with Russ. I like some of the Russ songs, you know what I mean?

• 54:06Drew Afualo?

No, but that, can I be real? That would piss me off too.

• 54:11Drew Afualo?

They said that to me about Russ.

• 54:12Speaker 02

You know what I mean? Like, it's like, cause it's been happening for years.

• 54:15Drew Afualo?

  I'm about to block Russ.

• 54:17Speaker 02

It's crazy, it's crazy because when you start out, right? Like, when you start out and no one knows you, they equate you to the thing they know the closest. Like, "Oh, she, she kinda reminds me of this," or "He kinda reminds me of this." And so mine was Russ.

• 54:29Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 54:30Speaker 02

And then I was, and then I got known. And so the Russ comments died down.

• 54:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 54:34Speaker 02

I don't know if this motherfucker's going on a PR, I don't know what he's doing, but they're coming back.

• 54:38Drew Afualo?

Sometimes I, sometimes if I see influx of certain kinds of comments, I go, "Who's doing something?"

• 54:44Speaker 02

Yeah, something's going on behind the scenes.

• 54:45Drew Afualo?

And I need to sniff it out. Like, I need to figure out where the shit's coming from. That's so funny.

• 54:50Speaker 02

But, but like, when me and Russ make that video, like, it's gonna blow up. So it's like, you know, it's fine.

• 54:55Drew Afualo?

  It's fine.

• 54:56Speaker 02

And I'm like way taller than him, so it's fine.

• 55:00Speaker 02

  So.

• 55:01Drew Afualo?

To be fair, we're taller than most people.

• 55:03Speaker 02

Yeah, we are, which is great though.

• 55:05Drew Afualo?

I think it's great, it's kinda working against me in the acting realm.

• 55:09Speaker 02

I heard that, that they like shorter people for acting.

• 55:12Drew Afualo?

And they like, and you, in the slate things you do, when you like say your, your height.

• 55:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:16Drew Afualo?

  I'm gonna start lying.

• 55:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:17Drew Afualo?

I asked my acting coach, I said, "Do you think it's cool if I lie?" And he said, "Yeah." So if you guys see me saying I'm 5'6", mind your business. A bitch is trying to get cast, you know what I'm saying? And then I'm just gonna show up fee-fi, full-funk when I walk in.

• 55:30Speaker 02

I mean, what's his name? Uh, uh, the guy who does all the stunts? I'm really bad with names.

• 55:35Drew Afualo?

  I'm noticing that.

• 55:36Speaker 02

  Scientology guy.

• 55:37Drew Afualo?

  Tom Cruise?

• 55:38Speaker 02

  Tom Cruise.

• 55:40Drew Afualo?

I always know what you're talking about.

• 55:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, he's like five four.

• 55:42Drew Afualo?

  He's.

• 55:43Speaker 02

That's why he can do all these like, these stunts.

• 55:45Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 55:46Speaker 02

You know, he weighs nothing. You know, you take him out the crayon box and put him in the.

• 55:52Drew Afualo?

I think I told you, like, I, last time you were here, I, I, when I meet people in real life, they're always like, oh damn, when you said tall, you meant tall, like, for real. And I'm like, yeah, obviously, like, I wouldn't say tall if I wasn't. And so, you know, sometimes it's fine, but like, sometimes they really wanna harp on how tall I really am. And I'm like, it's, it's alright, alright.

• 56:13Speaker 02

  No, you're fucking gigantic.

• 56:15Drew Afualo?

You're huge, you're huge, brother. And then I said, my least favorite thing, that women do to me, that obsess over the height thing, which is like, okay, whatever. Um, when they wanna take a picture with me, like, they ask me for a picture, they'll stand with me, and then I said, they'll do this thing where they, they, sometimes they'll put their hand on my stomach. Don't hold me like I'm your man.

• 56:33Speaker 02

  What are we doing?

• 56:33Drew Afualo?

Don't hold me like we're at prom.

• 56:35Speaker 02

  I'm tall, I'm not.

• 56:36Drew Afualo?

Don't do that shit to me. Like, they're like, I hate that shit.

• 56:41Speaker 02

  Bro, my thing's.

• 56:42Drew Afualo?

  Get off me.

• 56:42Speaker 02

My thing is, is two things. And it's crazy because it's like, yo, I'm still a person at the end of the day. Like, I know you see me on your phone. But it's like, now that I'm in, in, in front of you, how, how could you think to say this? They're like, yo, bro, I thought you were real short and fat.

• 57:01Speaker 02

Yeah, but love your videos. Can we get a picture? No, bro. I'm insecure now, bruh, like, no, bruh, leave me alone.

• 57:08Drew Afualo?

I actually don't, no, I actually don't wanna do that at all. Thank you, though.

• 57:11Speaker 02

  Immediately before the, the picture.

• 57:15Speaker 02

Start doing the fucking shirt lift, you know what I mean?

• 57:17Drew Afualo?

Yeah, my version of that is you're actually way prettier in person than I thought.

• 57:20Speaker 02

  Ah.

• 57:21Drew Afualo?

You're actually like, way prettier than I thought.

• 57:23Speaker 02

And like, women are usually saying that. That's not like a man thing to say.

• 57:26Drew Afualo?

No, of course not. It's always women. They're like, you're like, way prettier than I thought.

• 57:29Speaker 02

You're way uglier than I thought. Like, start responding with that.

• 57:32Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I guess the, I guess the opposite would be worse, but I just think all of it's an insult, just generally. Okay, wait, I have some fun facts about you.

• 57:39Speaker 02

  Okay, all about me, awesome.

• 57:41Drew Afualo?

Yes, about you, okay. This one says, well, you kind of already mentioned this. Well, obviously, we talked about you getting engaged this past July, yes. Uh, this one says, last summer, you got hit by a Tesla in LA while riding a scooter to a dispensary.

• 57:51Speaker 02

  Right, shouts out Elon.

• 57:52Drew Afualo?

Lots, lots of key buzzwords in there.

• 57:55Speaker 02

Yeah, I know, right? Holy shit, BuzzFeed needs to get on this.

• 58:00Drew Afualo?

That's a Daily Mail headline waiting to happen. What happened there?

• 58:03Speaker 02

Uh, so I actually, I was having some oxtails at this Jamaican spot.

• 58:08Drew Afualo?

  Nice.

• 58:08Speaker 02

It was really good and I was talking to one of my friends that's in content. And I was like, I gotta get to the crib, but uh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna get a joint before I dip out.

• 58:16Drew Afualo?

  Nice.

• 58:17Speaker 02

And he's like, alright, bye, later.

• 58:20Speaker 02

I'm on the scooter and I'm like having a great time. I got my headphones in. And it was my last day in LA and I'm just chilling, right? And I cut the street. I thought the light was red or maybe it turned green, I don't know. But I felt like there was something like, bro, that, that instinct you have is there, cuz I was like, someone was like, turn around. And I turn around and I'm, I'm basically in bro's driver's seat. It was already too late.

• 58:45Drew Afualo?

You're already getting in the car with him?

• 58:47Speaker 02

  I know, right?

• 58:49Speaker 02

And so my, like, he hits me and so like, this is a car, this is me, and he hits me like this. So my back hits the, hits his uh, window. Not windshield, like inside window.

• 58:59Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 59:00Speaker 02

It's like you know with Teslas, they've got like that glass pa- it's like the window, glass panel, window. I hit the panel, shatter it. Shatter it, right? And so, and then like, so, this is hilarious to me cuz my hair was down, so I always imagine like flipping and then just hair everywhere.

• 59:18Drew Afualo?

  Oh my god.

• 59:18Speaker 02

  Who's that beautiful rag dog?

• 59:21Drew Afualo?

  I hit that poor woman.

• 59:25Speaker 02

And so, um, so like, feet go up, feet saw the sky, I was like, holy shit. And I knew like, alright, well, if I don't stick this landing, I'm gonna hit my head on the, on the LA pavement. So like, I was like, alright, hand, it's been great knowing you, and I sacrifice him, right?

• 59:41Drew Afualo?

  Damn.

• 59:41Speaker 02

So I, so I'm, and like, I'm moving as I'm in the air, right? And so I catch myself, I split this open, and like, I'm so like worried about other people.

• 59:52Drew Afualo?

  Did you like flip over?

• 59:53Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, flip. Like, I, I didn't, like, it was more of like a kickflip than a, than a, you know what I mean? And so.

• 59:58Drew Afualo?

  Still though, oh my god.

• 1:00:00Speaker 02

I hear, like, there's a lady, like, there, there were some industry players there, cuz there was a lady scream immediately and I was like, man, who got the cameras on, man, like? Who, who hired that actress? And so I hear this scream and everybody rushes to me and I'm so like, don't worry about me, I'm like, nah, I'm good. Don't worry. And I'm like, wait, like, everybody's like, alright, wait, wait, maybe not. I look at my arm, my arm's bleeding, and so I immediately call my girl and I'm like, this is hilarious. Like, I got hit by a car, this is so funny. And so I'm like, yo, what are you doing? Watching something. Okay, well, I got hit by a car, I'm going to the hospital, but I'm okay. I'm good. She's like, Tony, what? And I'm like, I'm good. I just didn't see him, he didn't see me, and now I'm about to go see a doctor, so.

• 1:00:46Speaker 02

And then my, my other homie who lives out here, he was in. At the time, we didn't know this, but it's, it was the most important session of his life, because he writes, he makes music.

• 1:00:54Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 1:00:55Speaker 02

And he's like, I go, yo, I got hit. I'm about to go to the hospital, I'm okay. Uh, no, actually, he didn't answer that phone call. He answered, he called me back while I was in the hospital. And he's like, what's going on? And I was like, I got hit, but I'm good. He was like, do I need to come? And I was like, no, you're in a session, it's important, and I've already been checked out. Like, at this point, I'm just kind of here, and they're gonna give me stitches in my hand.

• 1:01:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:15Speaker 02

And he was like, no, he was like, no, I gotta come. And I was like, bro, I'm telling you, if I'm gonna be done with this hospital visit in two, three hours, and then that, I'm gonna just go home, like, stay there.

• 1:01:25Drew Afualo?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:01:26Speaker 02

Come to find, like, he had had a placement, and his song went like, top ten on the charts, so I'm glad he didn't, I'm glad he didn't leave. Um, but I was like-

• 1:01:33Drew Afualo?

Good thing you didn't ruin it with your selfish getting hit by a car.

• 1:01:35Speaker 02

I know, right, getting hit. Diva. But, um-

• 1:01:40Drew Afualo?

It's always something with this guy, always.

• 1:01:41Speaker 02

And so I'm in a hospital room pretty much all day, and I was like, I'll make a video about it, fuck it. Yeah, I'll be the guy with the hospital wristband on the story, fuck it.

• 1:01:50Drew Afualo?

Don't really wanna talk about it.

• 1:01:53Speaker 02

DM me though. But so my, I, I wanted to make light of the situation, and I was like, uh, I did like, I did it with like, Fast and Furious music, and I was like, I was like, uh, when you get hit by a car, but you survive, too fast, too furious. And, and, and so like, the video blew up, and there were a lot of people that were like, he's just doing this for attention, yeah, duh.

• 1:02:14Drew Afualo?

Yeah, well, uh, yeah, that's kind of what comes with getting hit by a car.

• 1:02:17Speaker 02

I have a page with five million followers on it, and it's named after me.

• 1:02:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:21Speaker 02

Yeah, I'm not the most humble guy ever.

• 1:02:23Drew Afualo?

I'm gonna talk about it, yeah, that's kind of my thing.

• 1:02:25Speaker 02

  And so, uh-

• 1:02:26Drew Afualo?

That's your one reward for getting hit by a car.

• 1:02:28Speaker 02

And so, uh, but I like, I just sat there and I was like, this could have been way worse. And like the doctors were like, yeah, this could have been way worse. Like they, they said like they had a dude a week prior. He, his like bone was popping out of his leg, got hit by a car on the scooters. Like they were like, the doctors hate scooters.

• 1:02:44Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:45Speaker 02

And, and like what's hilarious is like, I scooted back home, right after that. Like, cause I was like.

• 1:02:50Drew Afualo?

  Didn't learn your lesson, huh?

• 1:02:51Speaker 02

Yeah, like the, the reception was so bad, I couldn't get an Uber. And there was like a scooter just waiting there, just like.

• 1:02:56Drew Afualo?

  Taunting him.

• 1:02:57Speaker 02

Beckoning me there. I was like, fuck it.

• 1:02:59Drew Afualo?

Like a pie on a windowsill.

• 1:03:00Speaker 02

Exactly. I started floating to it. And so I was like.

• 1:03:04Drew Afualo?

I like how you got hit by the car and it was very like, you don't want to give your girl the ick.

• 1:03:08Speaker 02

  Yeah, I know, right?

• 1:03:09Drew Afualo?

You're like, ah, you know what? It's like, this guy.

• 1:03:13Speaker 02

Like, like when you get hit by a car with your nonchalant. Ouch.

• 1:03:19Speaker 02

And so, uh, she was actually pissed at me.

• 1:03:23Speaker 02

And so, uh, I get back home and at this time I was doing stand up and I was like, I have to get on this scooter ride back home. This is the best stand up skit, or stand up special ever.

• 1:03:32Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:33Speaker 02

And so now it's in, it's in my back pocket if I ever go to stand up. So, it was great, you know?

• 1:03:37Drew Afualo?

Well, you know, it all worked out.

• 1:03:39Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:39Drew Afualo?

Were you embarrassed at all? My sister got hit by a car and was really embarrassed.

• 1:03:42Speaker 02

  Yeah, like I was.

• 1:03:45Drew Afualo?

I was like, she even told me, she's like, no one talks about how embarrassing it is to get hit by a car.

• 1:03:49Speaker 02

It wasn't, I, I, I don't know, it wasn't embarrassed, but I feel like my embarrassment receptors are off, cause we do content.

• 1:03:56Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 1:03:56Speaker 02

So it's like, it was more like.

• 1:03:57Drew Afualo?

  You're a bad measure.

• 1:03:58Speaker 02

I know, right? I was more like, I think the, the worst thing I did is I was obviously hurt and I'm telling people I'm okay. Immediate, almost like anxious, like, oh, I'm okay, I'm all right.

• 1:04:07Drew Afualo?

Yeah, she did the same thing. She landed on their windshield and got off and said, sorry about that.

• 1:04:10Speaker 02

  Yeah, like.

• 1:04:11Drew Afualo?

And then picked up her bike and tried to ride away.

• 1:04:12Speaker 02

You're mangled. No, I'm all right. Family guy.

• 1:04:16Drew Afualo?

It's all right, don't worry about me, don't worry about me.

• 1:04:17Speaker 02

Yeah, like, no, I'm totally okay. Can you call nine one one, please?

• 1:04:22Speaker 02

And start, and start the Heimlich, please.

• 1:04:26Speaker 02

But um, but other than that, like, it actually taught me like, hey, if something happens again, you ask for help. Like, don't, like, that's, that was the only serious thing I thought, like, you can't have something like that happen, and you're telling people you're okay. Cause even though I pretty much was okay, I was bleeding a lot, I was bleeding a lot, but other than that, I was like, the next time it happens, be for real, you got hurt.

• 1:04:45Drew Afualo?

  Let people help me.

• 1:04:46Speaker 02

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:04:47Drew Afualo?

Which is nice, except the lady who screamed.

• 1:04:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:04:49Drew Afualo?

  You're a, you're a plant.

• 1:04:51Speaker 02

Yeah, and it sucked because like, the, the store that I was, got hit in front of, I had like, uh, like, they gave me these paper towels, and I'm bleeding, and I'm like, alright, well, I'm not gonna litter. I'm gonna throw these away.

• 1:05:03Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:03Speaker 02

So I go into the store, she's like, mm-mm, mm-mm, no, take your bloody towels away.

• 1:05:07Drew Afualo?

Please get out, please get out.

• 1:05:08Speaker 02

And I was like, that's fair.

• 1:05:10Drew Afualo?

It's, please get, you can keep it, please get out. This next fun fact, I don't know how fun that last one was, but this one is, uh, in high school, you made money during school between classes selling chips, chocolate, and honey buns.

• 1:05:22Speaker 02

Yeah, now, you say money, I was making a bag.

• 1:05:28Speaker 02

I was like, my mom started asking questions, she was like, yo, where all this money coming from? I was like, oh, probably the closet full of snacks that's i- in the house, like, you know, I'm not selling drugs, I, yeah.

• 1:05:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm running game, don't worry about it.

• 1:05:40Speaker 02

It was me and my best friend E, and, uh, we had realized, we're like, yo, we're in this, we're in school for eight hours a day. We mi- a- and, it was like, like, it was right after the Obamas did the health kick, so like,

• 1:05:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:53Speaker 02

Like, with, like, baked, baked chips, and, and like,

• 1:05:56Drew Afualo?

  Everything was healthy.

• 1:05:57Speaker 02

An apple with some bread as your lunch, I was like, alright, like, boom, I'll just bring some hot chips and some honey buns, and like, you know, you know how schools do those like chocolate fundraisers, and they've got like those bars?

• 1:06:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:08Speaker 02

I found them, at a store, and I was like, yo,

• 1:06:11Drew Afualo?

And you were selling them, but just for you?

• 1:06:13Speaker 02

But like, it was crazy, cause they were like, they were sixty, there were sixty bars of chocolate, it was like thirty bucks.

• 1:06:19Drew Afualo?

  Damn.

• 1:06:19Speaker 02

And I was like, oh, I'm making thirty a pop, like, let's do it. And so, I was, bro, I was probably making anywhere between two fifty to three hundred a day in school. I was making more at school than at my job. I had a job like, so I would leave school.

• 1:06:36Speaker 02

And I bought my car, like with it, like, like I put the down payment, I put like six thousand down on my car. It was a twenty fifteen Honda Accord, shouts out to the Honda Easy. And then I use, and then I quit school and use that car to like sell life insurance. I mean, I, I went into sale, it was just crazy.

• 1:06:53Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I, that's my next one about you is that when you left, you, when you were nineteen, you worked as a life insurance agent. You don't want to hear something crazy? So did I.

• 1:07:00Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:07:01Drew Afualo?

I'm not even kidding. Around the same age, I was like twenty one. Who, who, who'd you sell for? Do you remember?

• 1:07:07Speaker 02

If I, if I ever say who I sold for.

• 1:07:10Drew Afualo?

  I bet I know.

• 1:07:13Speaker 02

We'll talk about it after, we'll talk about it after. Because I found out, I was like, oh, this might be like a pyramid scheme.

• 1:07:17Drew Afualo?

  I, I'm not even kidding, I think I know.

• 1:07:22Speaker 02

But it worked for me, I was making money.

• 1:07:24Drew Afualo?

Listen, and I'll tell you this, if it's who I think it is. It's not a pyramid scheme, but it is an MLM. And those aren't illegal. They're just annoying.

• 1:07:34Speaker 02

People don't understand that, like, that's a life insurance model. It's all, like, it's actually all an MLM.

• 1:07:40Drew Afualo?

And I'll tell you this, uh, there's many other MLMs that exist that are not useful, like life insurance, us doing the pitch.

• 1:07:46Speaker 02

I know, right? And so basically, you're gonna die one day, Joe and Mary.

• 1:07:50Drew Afualo?

I know the exact pitch you're saying, you're like, we're all gonna die. And then when they look up bad things and they're like, I heard it's a pyramid scheme. You go, well, I didn't think you were someone who believed everything you read on the internet.

• 1:08:01Speaker 02

The pyramids are still standing in Egypt.

• 1:08:05Drew Afualo?

We've lived the same life, that's fucking nuts. I know, I did that too. I remember, I, I remember too that it was, um, I learned a lot at that job.

• 1:08:16Speaker 02

It was actually, it was actually a dope experience.

• 1:08:18Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:08:18Speaker 02

Yeah, after the MLM, like, I, like, I got a policy, my girl does, my mom does.

• 1:08:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, same.

• 1:08:23Speaker 02

  Cause it's like, it's true.

• 1:08:24Drew Afualo?

I actually know so much about life insurance.

• 1:08:27Speaker 02

And what people really don't get is that's how rich people build generational wealth. You're laughing, I know, that's the pitch.

• 1:08:33Drew Afualo?

I'm laughing because it's the pitch.

• 1:08:35Speaker 02

It's the pitch, but it's also true.

• 1:08:37Drew Afualo?

But it's true, it's also true, yeah.

• 1:08:38Speaker 02

Like millionaires will get million dollar policies on. Basically A, B, or C gold, silver, platinum program, which one do you want?

• 1:08:47Drew Afualo?

I know all about whole life term, I U L, I know all about it.

• 1:08:52Speaker 02

And so, um, it was, honestly, it was great. The, how I got hired is, um, I was chilling, it was my friend's friend.

• 1:09:00Drew Afualo?

  Did you get recruited?

• 1:09:01Speaker 02

No, that's the cra- I recruited myself.

• 1:09:04Drew Afualo?

Did you go to a meeting?

• 1:09:05Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:09:05Drew Afualo?

  No?

• 1:09:06Speaker 02

I'm telling you, it's crazy. So I get there, I get to my, so my friend's like, yo, my friend Marv is having a, a party. Pull up. And Marv is like a year older than me, so I'm 19 at this time, he's 20.

• 1:09:15Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:16Speaker 02

And he's in like a, like penthouse downtown where we live. And I'm looking around, I'm a nosy fuck, so I'm like, yo, bro, what do you do and how much do you make? Like, immediately. And he goes, oh, I sell life insurance. And I was like, really? He's like, yeah, bro, like, I'm making like 2,000 a week. 2,000 a week? I was like, bro, put me on.

• 1:09:36Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:09:36Speaker 02

And he put me on. And so, he actually, like, quit before I even really got hired.

• 1:09:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:43Speaker 02

First of all, there's the red flags right there. My dumb ass, I'm just thinking to myself, 2,000 a week, that's all I need to make.

• 1:09:49Drew Afualo?

  Right, I agree.

• 1:09:49Speaker 02

And so, I, I'm talking to the, uh, to like the, the managers. And they're like, Marv told you he was making 2,000 a week? And I, and I was like, yeah, so he said, he said, he said it's possible. And they're like, oh, no, it's possible, like, I've made more than that in a week. Marv has it.

• 1:10:08Speaker 02

I'm like, I'm a month into the job.

• 1:10:10Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:10Speaker 02

Like, if Marv's not here, I'm like, alright, well.

• 1:10:13Drew Afualo?

He's a bad recruiter, part of the things they say is not to lie about that.

• 1:10:17Speaker 02

But like, I really, I mean, I started like talking to people and, and like my main thing was referrals. So it's like if I sold, if I sold.

• 1:10:27Drew Afualo?

Yeah, because I didn't want to do it myself, really.

• 1:10:30Speaker 02

  And I hated leads.

• 1:10:30Drew Afualo?

Yeah, me too, I didn't want to do it myself, so I was like, I was just referring more than anything, but like, obviously, I got my own, my own shit too.

• 1:10:37Speaker 02

Oh, you're talking about putting your friends on?

• 1:10:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, like.

• 1:10:39Speaker 02

Oh, I did that too, but I mean like.

• 1:10:40Drew Afualo?

I mean, for the. For the policies. For that, like I was recommending people, but I did do the business for real. In fact, my sister makes, this is one of the funniest jokes she's made, but she says, I think that people should have to do what we did. That exact thing, like mandatory conscription, like how in Korea they have to serve. She was saying, I think they have to do an MLM like this. Specifically for life insurance and they have to take it seriously for at least two of the years. Like, I really do think it makes people a better worker and a better person.

• 1:11:10Speaker 02

And I don't know, was yours, was yours in person or over the internet?

• 1:11:15Drew Afualo?

It was in person when I started doing it, it was.

• 1:11:20Speaker 02

So like, I, I started thinking to myself like, bro, I was nineteen years old, walking into a stranger's house for an hour. And leaving with their social security. Bank information and their health information.

• 1:11:32Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:11:33Speaker 02

And I'm like, what the fuck was he on back then, bro? I could like, now that I've done content, like, like, and, and your sister's right because it. There's nothing that can get to me, bro. Like I, and what sucks is like, like, I still remember one person's social by heart because it was so easy.

• 1:11:52Speaker 02

And I still remember it, like, I'm never gonna use it, but it's like, bro, like, it's crazy that like, and, and I ain't gonna lie, people are way too trusting. Cause I would be like, man, ain't no way I'm giving you my social. For your nineteen years old, like, you can't even get life.

• 1:12:08Drew Afualo?

And you know what's funny is when I first started dating, uh, my man now, he came to, I remember they, like, I think my mom showed me a picture. Of the two of us and we were doing that, I was doing this for a living and he was just like supporting me. And, uh, I was, I was doing the, the insurance stuff and we were at some sort of like job fair or something. And we were all in matching polos, my man and I, like, my man doesn't know jack shit about it, like, and he just started dating me. And I was looking at the picture and I thought to my, I literally said out loud, I was like, God, that man loves me so much. He would not be there if he did not love me because there was no point in him coming, but he really did like, understand it and like, believed in it with me. Because it's true.

• 1:12:51Drew Afualo?

Real. There are many MLMs that are not helpful, like, you know, I was just, that's so funny, cuz I was. I was keying with one of my girls on TikTok about, she was like making fun of this guy that was saying something about. Oh, I make a lot of money, I'm, I'm a financial person, but he wasn't like disclosing what he did. And then he, all he said was that he day trades. And then I put day trading so Forex. And on the way to the studio, this random guy responded to my comment in her video and wrote. Yeah, probably Forex, I'm licensed though, I have the, the receipts to prove it. And then I literally wrote, why would you wanna prove that to me?

• 1:13:28Drew Afualo?

And he was like, I'm just saying, it's not a scam. And I said, I never said it was a scam. I said it's an MLM and also, I don't give a fuck. You're talking to the wrong bitch. Like, my point being, there are many unhelpful MLMs. That's not one of them.

• 1:13:42Speaker 02

If you don't got a policy, we'll get you one, just go through a good.

• 1:13:50Speaker 02

But like, but like, the, the one thing that made me realize it was really important, is I ended up selling this lady and her mom. And her mom died a month later and we paid out. And I was like, okay, like, this is fire.

• 1:14:00Drew Afualo?

My sister had that experience too, actually, where she.

• 1:14:02Speaker 02

You sold Life is Strange too?

• 1:14:03Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, we all, we all did it. We all did, as a family, we did it. As a family, we did it as a family. But she did the same thing where she, she helped her friend get a policy. And then she paid out on that too for him, and it helped. Which like, that part of it is crazy.

• 1:14:18Speaker 02

  It's crazy.

• 1:14:18Drew Afualo?

Like giving, like giving the family that check and stuff, it's nuts.

• 1:14:21Speaker 02

Yeah, like the daughter had called me and she was like, I wasn't even gonna, she's like, I wasn't gonna let y'all in the house, I didn't wanna do the, the meeting. Um, cuz I just didn't know y'all. And she was like, you're helping me pay for the.

• 1:14:33Speaker 02

Now, cuz like, I'm nineteen, like, I'm not talk, I'm not worried about death, I'm just like, damn, that's crazy. But it was just, like, I think my, bro, my first year, I closed at like sixty racks, nineteen years old. Doing life, like, bro, I was, I was hustling for real.

• 1:14:47Drew Afualo?

I would've recruited your ass too, shit.

• 1:14:49Speaker 02

It was so, like, I would sell somebody, I'd be like, you got a brother or sister? And they're like, yeah, like, oh, well, they're your beneficiary, so. I have to talk to them.

• 1:14:59Drew Afualo?

  A salesperson.

• 1:15:00Speaker 02

Exactly, and they go, okay. And then I, I would go into the beneficiary and be like, yeah, your sister got this kick ass policy. And basically, if she dies, like, she's gonna be. You know, her, her family's gonna, uh, have the money for it. And, and she's doing really good, and it was a really good idea for her to get it. And they'd be like.

• 1:15:16Speaker 02

Well, I, I kinda want some.

• 1:15:18Drew Afualo?

Oh, you do? Well, I just so happened to bring. I think that's like, look at us.

• 1:15:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, like scumbags.

• 1:15:30Drew Afualo?

We're both still believing it though, because we're both still giving the pitch. I swear to God, please do. Like, that's very important.

• 1:15:35Speaker 02

And, and if you have like a baby, like, like, I, now, see, now I'm gonna spit. Uh, life insurance i- is based on your age and your health. The older you get, the more expensive it is, and unfortunately, the more unhealthy you are, it's harder to get it. So if you have a baby, you can put your baby on to like a 30K whole life for like 10 bucks a month, and it'll keep it forever. So look into that for your kids, you know what I mean?

• 1:15:57Drew Afualo?

It's very true. It's very true. He's not, he's not getting anything.

• 1:16:00Speaker 02

Like, I'm not getting nothing from this, right?

• 1:16:02Drew Afualo?

  It's very true.

• 1:16:03Speaker 02

  You know what I mean?

• 1:16:05Drew Afualo?

I'm like, that brings us to our sponsor today.

• 1:16:10Drew Afualo?

Just kidding. Okay, and then the last one says you were in a Papa John's commercial with Shaq.

• 1:16:14Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:16:14Drew Afualo?

  Which we already knew.

• 1:16:15Speaker 02

  Right.

• 1:16:16Drew Afualo?

How was it working with Shaq? I worked with Shaq a year or two ago.

• 1:16:19Speaker 02

  He's great.

• 1:16:20Drew Afualo?

  He's great. He's weird, but he's great.

• 1:16:22Speaker 02

Yeah, he's like a, he's like a urban legend, like, like, in like the sense of like, uh, like, you know how Slender Man's like a legend? It's not scary, like Shaq's not like a Slender Man, but it's like, you hear about Slender Man. Yeah, yeah. So it's like, you hear about Shaq, and you, and like, for some reason Shaq's like kind of in your life, because you're American and basketball.

• 1:16:43Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you're like, of course they know.

• 1:16:44Speaker 02

Yeah, it's like Shaq, like, you know what I mean? And then you, and then you, you see him, and you're like, holy shit, he's really right there.

• 1:16:50Drew Afualo?

  It's true.

• 1:16:51Speaker 02

And he's taller than you expect. Like, however tall you think.

• 1:16:53Drew Afualo?

Even bigger than I could have ever imagined, yeah.

• 1:16:55Speaker 02

However tall you think Shaq is, add like four or five inches, genuinely.

• 1:16:59Drew Afualo?

  For real.

• 1:16:59Speaker 02

And like, he had put his hand on my shoulder and it went down to like here. And I was like, yeah, bro, there's a reason you were a goat. Like, you're just like, bro, like, you're like a tree.

• 1:17:08Drew Afualo?

The big man, yeah. He, I, he came on a live with me, uh, when I did TikTok in the mix a couple of years ago, with me and my friend Eric Sedenio. And, uh, my friend Eric loves to wear wigs, and like, we, Shaq had said at one point that he would wear the wig.

• 1:17:24Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:17:24Drew Afualo?

But then when he sat down, he was like, I'm not wearing that shit on live, mind you. And I was like, alright. And then like, he, my friend Eric was trying to ask him questions, and then he was like, ask me another question, ask me another question. He's kind of strange. And then I go, you want another question? He goes, yeah, a good one. And I go, okay, would you rather die by fire or die by freezing?

• 1:17:42Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 1:17:42Drew Afualo?

And then he was just looking at me, and I go, well? And then he goes, why would you ask me a question like that?

• 1:17:48Speaker 02

Okay, what do you want to say?

• 1:17:48Drew Afualo?

You said something interesting. I said, okay, I'll say mine. I'd rather die by fire.

• 1:17:54Drew Afualo?

  Mind you, we're on live.

• 1:17:57Drew Afualo?

So I'm like, what about you, Eric?

• 1:18:00Speaker 02

And the good thing is if you die, your life insurance will.

• 1:18:02Drew Afualo?

And what if you died right now? Uh, but he was fine. He was a good time. I like that he's able to be a little bit silly.

• 1:18:08Speaker 02

  I, I, and I give.

• 1:18:09Drew Afualo?

  I appreciate that.

• 1:18:09Speaker 02

I give people like Shaq, like celebrities like Shaq, a little grace.

• 1:18:13Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 1:18:14Speaker 02

Cause it's like, y'all don't understand. The fact that he's not, I mean, a freakazoid oddball. Jumping out of buildings, like, and he's been so famous for so long.

• 1:18:24Drew Afualo?

  You're right.

• 1:18:25Speaker 02

Like, it's like, I get it. Like, and, and I've learned that for content creators too. And that's why when you said if you're in it for just the money or just like the fame.

• 1:18:33Drew Afualo?

  Free shit, yeah.

• 1:18:34Speaker 02

It's like, you don't understand, like, it, it's, it's not natural to be able to open your phone and talk to millions of people.

• 1:18:39Drew Afualo?

  Really not at all.

• 1:18:39Speaker 02

And, and they're able to comment, like, even if it's good, like, I, I always say, like, people talk about the bad comments and no one talks about the good comments.

• 1:18:46Drew Afualo?

  That's very true, yeah.

• 1:18:46Speaker 02

That shit can like, I mean, destroy your dopamine and fucking, you start like, you can start like feeding too much into the positive.

• 1:18:53Drew Afualo?

  Arrogant, yeah.

• 1:18:54Speaker 02

Exactly. It's like, then you got somebody who loves you who's saying, hey, you're doing a good job, but it's not 10,000 people, so.

• 1:19:00Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:19:01Speaker 02

You know what I mean? And so like, they're like, if Shaq's a little weird, or if any celebrities are a little weird, a little.

• 1:19:06Drew Afualo?

They're all a little weird, yeah.

• 1:19:07Speaker 02

Yeah, I'll give you a little bit of grace. If it's like getting really weird, it's like, bro, I don't care how famous you are, bro, like.

• 1:19:13Drew Afualo?

I agree with you though, and, and I know what you mean by that because you're talking about like, just generally how they interact with people. And I agree because, and you know this too, like, with the amount of famous people we've met at this point, especially ones who have been famous for a long fucking time. I've said before, like, they don't get treated normally, ever. Like, by, unless it's by their like, close personal friends and family, but like, anytime they're anywhere where people are new, like, they're always treated very strange or not talked to at all.

• 1:19:41Speaker 02

  Like, like a specimen.

• 1:19:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, they, they treat them very strange and weird, so it's like, when you like fuck with them and make fun of them or poke them, they enjoy it because they're like, okay, this person doesn't think I'm weird and like, untouchable. And sometimes they're assholes, but that's very far and few between. I honestly haven't had many like negative interactions with celebrities.

• 1:19:59Speaker 02

  Yeah, I've had one.

• 1:20:01Drew Afualo?

Me too. I've had one pretty bad one. The most, the rudest people I've ever met are reality stars.

• 1:20:06Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:20:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, like, reality people.

• 1:20:08Speaker 02

  I love Islanders.

• 1:20:09Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like dating, like dating shows. Like, those are the ones that have been the rudest to me, or like competition, like, shows. And it's, I think, because sometimes in those parties where we're commingling. They, for some reason, think they're more traditional Hollywood than we are. They still think they're like above us.

• 1:20:25Speaker 02

You're on the quickest time limit, actually.

• 1:20:29Drew Afualo?

Yeah, we're actually in much different areas, in my opinion, but like, I, I don't give a fuck if you're here. Uh, but I, I haven't had, I've only had one, like, truly negative celebrity, well, actually, two. No, I'm thinking about it. Well, one was like, when I was working, one was just like in passing. And that's, I would say, pretty good average. For a long time. Not too bad. I think for most of them, they just wanna be treated normally.

• 1:20:52Speaker 02

Yeah, with Shaq, I, uh, like, we had had a script ready. And I forgot why, but they kinda did away with the script. And so, um, I, I just was, I don't know, it just wasn't meshing well. And so, we were like, all right, we're just gonna do it. And like, I mean, it's, it's cameras like this, and it's my first time being there, I'm with Shaq, we're in this, we like bought a house to like film this shit, I'm like, holy shit. And so, I mess up my line, and he, he's, he cracked the joke at me, he goes, uh, he goes, ah, you don't got it, you don't got it. And then I was like, I don't know, like, I'm, I'm, I'm a prideful fuck, so I was like.

• 1:21:28Speaker 02

Shaq, you just messed your fucking maker, Shaq, like.

• 1:21:31Drew Afualo?

Now I'm gonna nail that fucking line.

• 1:21:32Speaker 02

And then the next time I did, and I was like, do you like that, big man? And he started dying, and he goes, oh, I like him.

• 1:21:41Speaker 02

And so now, like, when I see Shaq, like, it's those little, like, moments that they really remember.

• 1:21:46Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:21:47Speaker 02

And it, cause it's like, bro, you, you think about how many people Shaq meets, or how many, like, celeb, like, people, celebrities meet. And they're like, oh, how you been? Me?

• 1:21:57Drew Afualo?

But I met Chris Evans earlier this year.

• 1:21:59Speaker 02

I think I saw that video.

• 1:22:00Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, I, I, when I met him, he came up, they were like, oh, this is Drew, I was working with A24, who I love, they're awesome. And, um, they were, he was like, oh, nice to meet you. I was like, hi, I'm Drew. He's like, Chris, nice to meet you. And I go, can I be honest? I thought about going, remind me your name again? And I chickened out. And then he laughed, he was like, I wish you did, that would've been funny. He's honestly funny, like, he's, he's a silly goose, but like, when we started, he was like, God, this is my bad side. And I go, is it? He goes, yeah, I go, that sucks. Are we ready to roll?

• 1:22:31Speaker 02

Oh, like for the camera? See, it's crazy like a celeb- like, bro, your, your life is on the camera and you're still like...

• 1:22:37Drew Afualo?

And that's why we were laughing about it, cuz he was like, "Tah." I think he was just being difficult on purpose to be funny. And then I was like...

• 1:22:44Speaker 02

Oh, okay, it was banter. Okay, I got you.

• 1:22:46Drew Afualo?

That sucks. Alright, are we rolling? We're good? Yeah, okay, perfect. And even like, I could tell that he was like... You can always tell when celebrities are pretty much at the end of like their press tour cuz they're kinda like...

• 1:22:57Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:22:58Drew Afualo?

Answering the same shit like over and over again. So he gave me this really, like, he, I was ans- asking him like standards of like, "How do you feel being here?", blah, blah, blah. And he was giving me really great, like, poignant answers. Then he gave me this really long, eloquent answer. And then, eh, media trained down. Like, he has that, he has that answer memorized.

• 1:23:15Speaker 02

  Right.

• 1:23:15Drew Afualo?

And so then after he finished, I was looking at him, I was like... "You fucking nailed that, dude." And then he's like, "Didn't I?" And he's like, "Yeah", he's like, "Give me a high five." And we fucking dapped each other up.

• 1:23:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:23:25Drew Afualo?

And then we laughed, and then he left. And I was like... And when he left, she was like, "Did you wanna ask him like more silly questions?" I was like... "Let him go."

• 1:23:32Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:23:32Drew Afualo?

"He's tired and doesn't wanna be here, I can tell."

• 1:23:34Speaker 02

You should've said, uh, "We could do this all day." You should've like, bro, you should've done something like that.

• 1:23:39Drew Afualo?

"We can't keep meeting like this."

• 1:23:40Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:23:41Drew Afualo?

"God, you wanna be with me so bad."

• 1:23:42Speaker 02

  But, yeah.

• 1:23:43Drew Afualo?

I know. I, even like, I did an event literally a week or two ago and I met one of the guys from the Menendez Brothers show, like, uh, Nick Chavez, I think is his name. Nice guy. But when I was talking to him, he made a, he answered my question by saying, "Oh, I had this party at my house." And I was like hosting these people at my house. He kept saying like, "I had a party at my house", said it like three times. And then after the third time, I go, "You had a party at your house and didn't invite me?"

• 1:24:07Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:24:07Drew Afualo?

"That's fucked up." And then he, I don't know if he was, thought I was being serious, I'm assuming, cuz he goes, "I literally just met you." "I just met you."

• 1:24:15Speaker 02

And, and, and that would've made me mad. Hey, do you think I wanted to go to your party?

• 1:24:21Drew Afualo?

And he said that, and I go, "Oh, you just met me, so you can't invite me to your house." Alright. I just come in, I'm like, "You wanna act like that? Then I'm gonna act for real."

• 1:24:30Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:24:30Drew Afualo?

And then after, I was like, "That's fine, it's fine. You didn't invite me, I got it, I got it, alright, I got it." And then at the end, he was like, "Oh." "I get it." "Oh, God."

• 1:24:39Speaker 02

  It's a quick one.

• 1:24:41Drew Afualo?

I was like, "Well, thank God you got there eventually."

• 1:24:43Speaker 02

I hate when people don't get my jokes, bro. Oh, my God. And then you gotta be like, "Wait, no, I'm not a piece of shit." I was, I thought you would like this.

• 1:24:51Drew Afualo?

I just, I just commit at that point.

• 1:24:53Speaker 02

  Really?

• 1:24:53Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, why not?

• 1:24:54Speaker 02

  I just hit him.

• 1:24:55Drew Afualo?

You've actually watched me, you, you talked about that the last time you were here. You watched me live, that happened to me.

• 1:25:00Speaker 02

  What, what part, when?

• 1:25:02Drew Afualo?

  Cause we were at Coachella.

• 1:25:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:25:03Drew Afualo?

And then that guy we met, I made a joke and you didn't get it.

• 1:25:06Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:25:06Drew Afualo?

And then I, and then I stood there and I was like.

• 1:25:08Speaker 02

And you know what's crazy? You know what's crazy? Like, I, I'll never forget, I was like, you were like behind me? And I'm like.

• 1:25:15Speaker 02

You know what I mean? And then I hear the joke, I go.

• 1:25:20Drew Afualo?

Well, glad I had one, shit. That's what I said, fucking, oh, tough room, my fucking bad. That's why I hate when, I hate when they don't get my jokes too. At that point, I'm like, damn.

• 1:25:30Speaker 02

I, I hate, I hate when I do like a, like a, a mean joke, like it's like, oh, I'm gonna be fake mean and we're gonna all laugh at this nigga, oh. No, no, no, please.

• 1:25:42Drew Afualo?

I'm sorry, I was being silly.

• 1:25:43Speaker 02

Like, my mom would hate it if you thought I was mean.

• 1:25:46Drew Afualo?

My mom's gonna see this, please.

• 1:25:49Speaker 02

  No, for real.

• 1:25:50Drew Afualo?

  To wrap us.

• 1:25:52Speaker 02

I forgot we're doing a show. We're just chopping it up. Bro, there's cameras here. Holy shit, you're so good at this, bro.

• 1:25:59Drew Afualo?

  Period.

• 1:26:00Speaker 02

  You're so good at this.

• 1:26:02Drew Afualo?

Do you have any advice for any aspiring creatives, whether they're like gonna start on social or if they wanna write like you or do anything else? Do you have any advice for them?

• 1:26:11Speaker 02

Yeah, and, and funny enough, we talked about it earlier in this episode, but it's like, you have to believe in yourself. And like, and like, you have to trust yourself and that, that, that's really hard. Cause like you start to, there's like kinda two yous, the you that you are and the you that you wanna be. And to get to that you that you wanna be, you have to really just believe in yourself. And, and it's like, you're gonna sound cocky to people. Like, it's like, I don't care what you think, I'm gonna do it. Ah, I can't wait to see it, yeah, you will. And they'll be like, oh, he's a cocky guy, yeah, I am. Like, you can't.

• 1:26:41Drew Afualo?

  I'm cocky about me?

• 1:26:42Speaker 02

Exactly, exactly, and you can't, eh, like, uh, I mean, I love Kendrick Lamar and the line that really spoke to me is, I can't fake humble because your ass is insecure.

• 1:26:53Speaker 02

Buddy, I mean, oh my gosh. And so like, and that's what I try to do. I, I used to try to downplay myself around people. So, oh yeah, I make jokes, but you know, they're kind of funny. And like now, I'm like, no, I'm the funniest guy on the internet.

• 1:27:06Drew Afualo?

And many people would agree with you, myself included.

• 1:27:09Speaker 02

And if people don't agree, they don't agree, like, but I do, so.

• 1:27:12Drew Afualo?

I think the same thing. I think, well, one of us gets paid to do it for a living.

• 1:27:16Speaker 02

  And so.

• 1:27:17Drew Afualo?

I think I'm pretty good. Let's check tape.

• 1:27:20Speaker 02

I have tape. You don't even have tape.

• 1:27:21Drew Afualo?

  Let's check tape.

• 1:27:21Speaker 02

Yeah. And so, uh, that, and then like, people don't really, like, consistency is, a- a- and none of this is gonna be like the secret sauce that you probably haven't heard ever before. The reason why you keep hearing these things is because that's a sauce.

• 1:27:36Drew Afualo?

  For real.

• 1:27:37Speaker 02

And so it's like, the consistency, and I realize, once you learn the lesson of consistency, uh, I've, I've, I've had this saying in the back of my mind, like, consistency is a paint that can go on any canvas. So it's like, working out, uh, being a better person, uh, creative, uh, work, like, i- if you are consistent in anything that you do, you'll get better at that thing. And it doesn't have to include money or fame or anything like that. It really could be, if you want to be a better son, a better daughter, a better anything, you gotta be consistent at it. And you gotta be more consistent than anybody around you.

• 1:28:09Drew Afualo?

  I agree.

• 1:28:10Speaker 02

You gotta, you gotta, hey, I can't go to this thing because I gotta shoot this, I gotta write this, I gotta, you know, whatever. You gotta sacrifice for yourself. Um, and then, there is no, okay, I'm just gonna get to this point, and then everything's gonna be like cake for me. I'll just live off my name.

• 1:28:27Drew Afualo?

Right. You gotta keep doing it, yeah.

• 1:28:29Speaker 02

You gotta do the work to get here, then you gotta do more work to like, do more things.

• 1:28:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:34Speaker 02

Like, bro, like, you have, bro, you have employees here, you have, like, a, a, a makeup crew, a set design, cameras, like, that shit don't just happen.

• 1:28:43Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:28:43Speaker 02

You know what I'm saying? It, it took you years to get to that point. So like, be easy on yourselves and understand that like, it really takes 10,000 hours.

• 1:28:51Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:28:52Speaker 02

  It really does.

• 1:28:52Drew Afualo?

I agree. I, and I've said the same thing that you've said, and also, like, if, I really do believe this, and I'm sure you do too, if you really. Have something, it will happen. Like if you stay consistent, like you said, consistency is a huge thing. I tell people all the time. I posted every single day for over two years. Well into three years at that point. Like I was like, I was every single day I posted at least once and that was just because I wanted to, but also because I wanted to stay consistent with it. So it's like, I really do believe if you have, if you have something to offer the world, it will manifest for you.

• 1:29:27Speaker 02

And um, most people, I'm not saying most, but they're but like, uh, yeah, I'll say fuck it. Most people don't give themselves enough time to where they can look back at something and go, man, I sucked when I started, but look at me now. And I feel like that's one of the biggest like, and it's it's a moment that you have with yourself. Cause it's like you've been, uh, no matter who's been on the journey with you, you've been on the journey like the whole time. You know, the ins and outs, the secrets, the, the things that nobody has seen like about what you do and how you do it. So it's like, sometimes, and maybe you do this too, like, you ever just go and see your like oldest videos?

• 1:30:06Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I cringe really bad. It's hard for me to look back, to be honest. I don't like it.

• 1:30:11Speaker 02

I'm over here, back then I was like, I'm shadow man, like, it's them not me. But like, but like, it, it really was me and it was like, it's because this is a skill and, and I had to get better at it. And so now, like I like, I like when people say I don't miss, but it's like, bro, y'all just didn't see the misses. Like you, you'll never see a miss.

• 1:30:29Drew Afualo?

At this point, you're not gonna see misses.

• 1:30:30Speaker 02

Yeah, I'm better at the skill now, but like.

• 1:30:33Drew Afualo?

Saw me back then, you would have seen them.

• 1:30:35Speaker 02

When you say like people can't perceive themselves, like what if I make a video and it's so bad and everyone sees it? Well, that's not how algorithms work. When a video is bad, no one will see it. That's the best part about it and that's what people don't get. Yeah, so it's unless it's like really like, it's like it gets on cringe pages, but but like, you're not gonna get on those. But um, but yeah, like, so I was like, oh, these videos aren't doing well, it's them not me. And then I realized, maybe it's me. Maybe, maybe I really need to take the time and learn my craft and get better at it and then. And then now I'm making like even bro, I made a video like two, three days ago and it's my favorite video I've ever made.

• 1:31:10Speaker 02

And so it's like, bro, like, I'm, I'm able to look back and see my progress and that keeps me going. What I talked about, you know, earlier in this, in the pod was. I'm kinda talking to my future self.

• 1:31:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:22Speaker 02

Cause I'm able to look at my past self.

• 1:31:23Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:24Speaker 02

And so I can see how much I've progressed and I know that that future Tony has even progressed, has progressed even more than me.

• 1:31:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:31Speaker 02

So I, I let myself be okay with the, the turmoil and the uneasiness and the no foundation right now. Cause I know I'll get it eventually.

• 1:31:39Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that just, you're in a period of growth.

• 1:31:40Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:31:41Drew Afualo?

That's why it's uncomfortable when you have to grow.

• 1:31:42Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you gotta get used to that.

• 1:31:44Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 1:31:45Speaker 02

You have to get used to that.

• 1:31:46Drew Afualo?

  Look at us, man.

• 1:31:47Speaker 02

  I know, right?

• 1:31:47Drew Afualo?

We're killing it. Thank God. Thank God the internet has us, huh?

• 1:31:52Speaker 02

Bro, let's go back to life insurance.

• 1:31:55Speaker 02

Let's create our own content creator life insurance.

• 1:31:57Drew Afualo?

The two of us have a fallback.

• 1:32:00Drew Afualo?

You especially, you sold me shit.

• 1:32:02Speaker 02

Yeah, I know, right? You about to go, you about to go revamp your policy. You got your will? Yo, these jokes are so funny if you know what we're talking about.

• 1:32:10Drew Afualo?

I know, dog. If you, if you knew.

• 1:32:11Speaker 02

  Cause it's so funny.

• 1:32:12Drew Afualo?

If you knew for real, I'm not even kidding. The other day I told my sister, I was like, God, I wish I could tell those jokes. Nobody gets them.

• 1:32:18Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:32:18Drew Afualo?

  Now I'm gonna tell you.

• 1:32:19Speaker 02

  Yeah. Bro, they're so funny.
