He has been a staple in country music and in Texas lore for many years. He's having a great year right now with his new album, Nine Lives. It's country, it's rock, it's grunge, it's him. He's got a new Christmas EP, Wetzel's Wonderland, Chapter Two, out now. And I'm just grateful to spend time today and to catch up with him. Today's guest is Mr. Koe, Wetzel.

• 2:05Theo Von?

I shouldn't be allowed to fucking be alive. You ever feel like that?

• 2:10Theo Von?

You ever feel like that really dude? I mean, I should not be allowed

• 2:15Theo Von?

to be alive dude. I just.

• 2:19Speaker 01

Kind of one of those days?

• 2:20Theo Von?

Yeah, you ever just burn so many bridges down, you can't even take a step? You burn, it's not even bridges, you burn down just regular flooring.

• 2:28Speaker 01

  Yeah. Ceiling, everything, carpet.

• 2:34Theo Von?

I mean, I'll just turn a ragus. Everything's a chimney when I come someday when I'm like that.

• 2:40Speaker 02

You want those beers by the window or honey or anything?

• 2:42Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 2:44Theo Von?

You can have whatever you want.

• 2:45Speaker 01

Yeah, I'll uh, if you don't mind, a couple of those, bush.

• 2:49Theo Von?

Yeah, I'm just damn. It's just, you know, yeah, everything's fine. It just when, you know, if I get in a, you know.

• 2:56Speaker 01

You think it's, it's kind of like with the holidays and shit coming up too, or?

• 3:00Theo Von?

  It doesn't help.

• 3:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, no, for sure.

• 3:02Theo Von?

And it's a lot of little things to do and suddenly a lot of just feeling like a blow responsibilities and then.

• 3:08Speaker 01

  Everything kind of has a.

• 3:10Theo Von?

Yeah. And then if I, yeah, and I start turning, I'll just turn into just a, you know, I get too focused on what I need to get done.

• 3:19Theo Von?

Sometimes I just gotta hit a AA meeting or something or fucking. Drink a damn eight ball dude. If, dude, I'm glad they didn't come down with eight ball though. Uh, beverage or whatever.

• 3:34Speaker 01

  They did, yeah, Celsius.

• 3:38Theo Von?

I'd have been on them bitches, man. Cole Wetzel, man, congrats on the new album, dude.

• 3:42Speaker 01

Thank you, man, I appreciate it.

• 3:43Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 3:45Speaker 01

Shit kind of popped off, huh?

• 3:47Theo Von?

Yeah, well, you've been working so hard.

• 3:48Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 3:49Theo Von?

People don't, people don't think about that.

• 3:51Speaker 01

Yeah, everybody, uh, it's the, was it the overnight success shit and, uh, I don't know, they don't see the 10 years, 10 plus years, you know? We've been grinding it out for a while, so.

• 4:03Theo Von?

And all the places, you've played every place they would allow someone to play, really.

• 4:08Speaker 01

For, for real though, man, like we would.

• 4:09Theo Von?

  I mean, you'll play, I've seen, yeah.

• 4:11Speaker 01

Yeah, trailers on the back of like semis, uh, behind chicken wire.

• 4:20Theo Von?

Oh, I've seen places where like tomorrow this place is getting fumigated, right? They'll already be setting up the tent around it with the bug spray in it. And it's like, but tonight, go Wetzel, baby.

• 4:31Speaker 01

  With big lights, right?

• 4:34Speaker 01

We had, dude, there was this one run that we had. It was, it was probably the third year, it's probably 2013, 14. And it was like, we were playing VFWs and like firehouses and stuff. Well, there was like three, three places that we played. And within two months, I don't know if it was tax reasons, reasons or what, but all of them fucking burnt down.

• 4:58Speaker 01

It was like a thing like, Co- Wessels coming to town, get your extinguishers ready, man. He's about to burn this bitch down, literally.

• 5:05Theo Von?

Dude, it was almost like that Whitesnake memorial tour kinda.

• 5:10Speaker 01

That's how it was, man. And it was, it was kind of Joker out of East Texas, but it was legit. It was always a VFW or a little cash grab or something. It was kind of a sketchy place, you know? And then you get in there and it's like, did you hear that place burned down last night? I was like, what?

• 5:25Theo Von?

You're like, what do you, we just left.

• 5:29Speaker 01

Like, I think we still have some drums in there.

• 5:32Theo Von?

Bro, you can smell the kerosene as you pull it off down the road.

• 5:35Speaker 01

There's just in the bags pulling wires and shit. I was electrical fired.

• 5:41Theo Von?

Oh, bro. Oh, yeah. Nothing like a good scam, dude.

• 5:45Speaker 01

I'm telling you, gets you out of a pinch. You're talking about, yeah, getting your day back to brighter, man. Get a little, get a little government money, man.

• 5:54Theo Von?

We had a dude who had bought a bunch of, uh, he made a bunch of 4th of July t-shirts, right? Okay. And they didn't get in until they basically got in like on the night before. They're supposed to come in like two weeks early and it was a business plan this guy had.

• 6:12Theo Von?

And, uh, he, so on 4th of July, he's like, I got, I have basically eight or nine hours to peddle these bitches.

• 6:21Theo Von?

He was out there on a with a bike with a little wagon. He was pulling like it was supposed to have a child in it or something, but it was just full of these 4th of July shirts. And he was out there just slinging them bitches and he only got rid of about maybe seventeen of them. So he had about maybe 420 shirts left or whatever.

• 6:39Speaker 01

What do you do with them?

• 6:40Theo Von?

He said, he, here's what he did. He said, he set them on fire, right? But he did it. He did it near a fireworks display and he said that some of the fireworks had landed in them.

• 6:50Speaker 01

Hey, hey, man, that's a kind of respect the hustle there. That's awesome.

• 6:56Theo Von?

  That's a great idea, man.

• 6:58Speaker 01

Yeah, he's got a lot. I bet he had a lot of, lot of great ideas. I mean, maybe is he still around? We should hit him up, bro.

• 7:05Theo Von?

He's an idea, man. I would say that.

• 7:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 7:07Theo Von?

He's an idea, man. Um, yeah, man, you're playing some different venues now. So that's kind, that's kind of changed, huh? Has it?

• 7:16Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. I mean, we've been doing like arenas for like the last two or three years, but it's just kind of to a bigger scale, I guess. I mean, the definitely got newer fans. With this record, we kind of tapped into the mainstream kind of side of it, I guess. You know, we've always been independent and I mean, I guess, you know, coming out of Texas and you get toward Texas year round, you know, and, and make a damn good living. And it's pretty much what we've been doing. But, you know, over the last probably five years, you know, we've got out of Texas and got to play these, these crazy arenas and stuff.

• 7:52Theo Von?

  That's crazy. Look at that.

• 7:53Speaker 01

Yeah, man, it's, it's been a while. I mean, we've been blessed. Fans have just come out of the woodworks, man. And it's cool to, to have people, you know, fuck with, fuck with the music, man. Fuck with what you're, what you're telling them, man. And, uh, I don't know. It's been wild. It's, it's kind of, we've been so busy. I haven't had time to like step back and actually look at it, you know, and, and, uh. Kind of see where we're at, but it's it's wild, man.

• 8:18Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:19Theo Von?

Well, yeah, I mean, I think there's a lot of that energy out of Texas where it's just like that, you know, we'll figure it out. And Texas really supports their own a lot.

• 8:26Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 8:27Theo Von?

You know, it's the same with guys like Parker over the years and um, I mean, Texas has their own thing. They always have.

• 8:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:34Theo Von?

You know, they support their own.

• 8:36Speaker 01

Yeah, very, very proud people, man. And, you know, it's just such a cult following, you know, and we've been blessed to have those cult fanbase, that that fanbase for so long, you know, and uh.

• 8:48Theo Von?

Is there like co-beef between like people, you know, like new fans and old fans, do you feel like?

• 8:54Speaker 01

Maybe, maybe a little bit, but I mean, like I said, they're so passionate and they're so, they're so like co-fans that, you know, I think they've, they've uh, I was kind of curious as to how they're gonna take this new music that we put out. Uh, I mean, they came, they came on with it. I think they dug it just, you know, because we haven't really veered off from the shit we've been doing our whole, you know, whole career, so.

• 9:16Theo Von?

Yeah. Do you feel weird? Do you feel like, is there a part of you that feels like, because I get like, if I have to do something that feels kind of mainstreamy to me sometimes, it, it makes me fucking angry.

• 9:26Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. I don't, man, not really. Just because, because like I said earlier, you know, I'm still doing the same shit. It's just more, I guess, on a bigger scale, kind of more uh, I don't know, um, kind of

• 9:40Speaker 01

expected, you know what I mean? Like to, to do all these interviews and, you know, just kind of get your story out there. So, I mean, it used to be, you know, get fucked up, go play music, and that was it, you know, write music, uh, throw down, party with everybody. And now it's kind of, all right, let's take a step back and calm everything down a little bit, you know?

• 9:57Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, yeah, dude. Yeah, your TikToks, you guys would be just fucked up out there eating dandelions and shit or just adopting animals. I mean, you guys are doing a lot for the, for nature and everything out there.

• 10:10Speaker 01

  Everything, man.

• 10:11Theo Von?

Do you have to slow it down a little bit? Have you had to a little?

• 10:13Speaker 01

Um, this tour, we definitely did. So last year's tour was the Hell Passo Tour, and it was balls to the wall. Like, it was, it was insane, bro. Like, it was too much, honestly. Uh, I'm surprised Mike died. Uh, and, but we had a couple of folks go to jail. Uh, but other than that, I mean, it was just chaos the whole time. And then this year with the Damn Near Normal Tour, um, they kind of like caged me a little bit. Like, so after every show, It was direct to the bus and then cop escort out like they wouldn't let me go out and party and stuff, which was great. I mean, the tour was great and stuff, but I felt like they were trying to settle me down a little bit. Cause I mean, like I said, it's just kind of on a bigger scale than than anybody kind of expected it to be.

• 10:57Theo Von?

Yeah, you got more responsibility the next day. You gotta actually be there.

• 11:00Speaker 01

And, you know, I felt a whole lot better this tour and the shows were were better in my opinion. And, but yeah, I mean, I guess it's you gotta grow up sometime, man.

• 11:09Theo Von?

  It sucks, huh?

• 11:10Speaker 01

It sucks, man. It sucks getting old.

• 11:12Theo Von?

It sucks having to grow up even. And it's not even getting old. Oh, you can stay young and just be an old dude. And like, damn, that old dude is, uh, shouldn't be, you know?

• 11:21Speaker 01

It's like the FOMO though, like the fear, like, you know, like whenever it's just like, you reminisce on all the good times, like, damn, man, that'd be fun to do tonight, you know? We should do that tonight.

• 11:31Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. It's nothing. Oh, dude, going to bed early and laying there and just feeling like just even God knows you're a little bitch. That's the saddest part, dude, getting in the bed early.

• 11:42Speaker 01

And then you kind of get ready and you're like, ah, start to feel a little bit bad. You're like, ah, you know what? And then you wake up next morning. I have to feel like whenever you wake up next morning, you're like, no, good on you.

• 11:51Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 11:52Speaker 01

  Fuck, yeah, man.

• 11:52Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah, that's a.

• 11:53Speaker 01

Yeah, that's like, you got a little, little oomph in your chest, like, hey, man.

• 11:57Theo Von?

Yeah, a natural oomph and not just where your heart's just burned out from running overtime. Dude, I remember when I first met you, I was like, cause I was like, I don't know if I just like gotten like re-sober or something at the time. Re-sober is a good name.

• 12:11Speaker 01

  Re-sober, yeah, that's pretty cool.

• 12:12Theo Von?

I never heard that word. I never said that word before.

• 12:14Speaker 01

  Re-sober, re-sobered.

• 12:16Theo Von?

But I'd never got, and I remember I met you and I was like, I gotta be careful around that guy because.

• 12:21Speaker 01

I remember that time. That was at, uh, Whiskey Jam, right? Was it Whiskey Jam?

• 12:26Theo Von?

  I remember.

• 12:27Speaker 01

  And when it, or Losers?

• 12:29Theo Von?

It might've been with Todd, with Todd, with, uh, Todd Graves.

• 12:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, that could've been.

• 12:33Theo Von?

It could've been the Super Bowl. Remember, was that that, uh?

• 12:36Speaker 01

  Oh, God, yeah.

• 12:37Theo Von?

  In that suite or something?

• 12:39Speaker 01

Dude, I was sober for three weeks going up there. And then, bro, we're sitting in the suite with Todd and like me and Dre have been sober or whatever. And we're like, if we can make it through Super Bowl weekend, dude, we are, you know, we're, we're killing And I'm sitting there and Cersei from Lord of the fucking ring or not Lord of the Rings, uh, Game of Thrones walks in. I'm like, was that Cersei? And they're like, yeah, that's one of the Jonas Brothers too. I was like, holy shit, you know? And so.

• 13:07Theo Von?

Yeah. You gotta play that game. You drink every time you see a Jonas brother.

• 13:09Speaker 01

I was like, yeah, I was like, uh, vodka soda, please. Like, and dude, we got, I mean, it was like 11 in the morning and you know, you got all these actors and musicians and.

• 13:21Theo Von?

  Yeah, they had a lot.

• 13:21Speaker 01

Coach O walks in from all this shit. He's like, hey, what's, what's going on, cuz? You doing all right? You doing all right, brother? I'm like, yeah, I'm good, man. Like, what do you think about your boy? And oh, he got, he got it sewed up. He's got it sewed up.

• 13:32Theo Von?

Yeah, that's when Burrow was playing the Super Bowl.

• 13:34Speaker 01

I was like, this, this dude's fucking awesome, you know? And.

• 13:36Theo Von?

This dude's been eating eight balls too.

• 13:38Speaker 01

Bro, he's just, and just rolling around, man, just having a great time. And so, I mean, we hammering him all day. We get to the game and I mean, it's just like that red carpet. People were showing up, coming in like, dude, I can't handle this shit. This is too much.

• 13:53Theo Von?

Yeah, everybody was in there. P D Pablo, I think was in there.

• 13:56Speaker 01

Dude, Jack Harlow, French one. So like, I mean, it was just one after the other. And you know, me being from small East Texas, I was like, what the fuck?

• 14:05Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah. That was wild.

• 14:08Speaker 01

  That was crazy.

• 14:08Theo Von?

There was a lot of fancy folks in there too, dude. I wanted to fucking rob some of those fucking queers or whatever. And I don't, you can't say queers, but said over to me, didn't say it. Um, but yeah, dude. Oh, I, and I just, yeah, I was like, cause I was just trying to, I was just getting back on the grill or whatever. And I was like, I gotta fucking.

• 14:27Speaker 01

Well, I think, I think, uh, one of the times I met you, it was at Whiskey Jam, I think. And we were sitting there each other and we like, yeah, I'm a fan of, fan of each other, whatever. And I remember you were like, there was a step right above me to what Muscatine Bloodline was playing. He was like, you try, you trying to go up? And I was like, I was like, yeah, dog, let's go. And I was like, you wanna go to the bathroom? Right here. You were like, wait, what? I was like, and I had, had a little in my pocket. I was like, like trying to go, you was like, you were like, no, the step to watch. I was like, ah, ah, shit. And I didn't know you was sober.

• 15:00Theo Von?

I remember that. Yeah, I was kind of perched up in the back.

• 15:03Speaker 01

  You trying to get up?

• 15:04Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 15:04Speaker 01

Hell, yeah, let's go right now. You're like, no.

• 15:09Theo Von?

Damn, brother. Well, look, I appreciate the, hey, I do appreciate the support.

• 15:14Speaker 01

Yeah, hey, man, I was, my bad, that was, that was on me, man.

• 15:17Theo Von?

Oh, no. Dude, I want somebody to fucking wanna get me fucked up, dude. I want somebody to just hold me down and just fucking, just damn funnel, just yay into my brain, homie. You know what I'm saying? But those are, you know, that's Christmas wishing, you know? Um, let me talk about your new album. So, the new album's Nine Lives, right? And if you, when have you burned a couple of your lives? Like, was there a night or two over the time? Cause I'm trying to think. We had, let me think of a good night that happened to me one time. Oh dude, a guy overdosed or whatever one time and people were doing CPR on him. I'm like, he doesn't need fucking CPR.

• 15:53Speaker 01

Was anybody, could they even do CPR?

• 15:56Theo Von?

I mean, they were just trying.

• 15:57Speaker 01

  They're just trying, you're like...

• 15:58Theo Von?

His chest was already doing its own CPR. I'm like, that dude is just geeked out of his gourd, bro. You need to hit him with that fucking, that's Narcanial Johnson. You need to hit him with that.

• 16:08Speaker 01

Why do you hit him with an EpiPen?

• 16:09Theo Von?

Yes, we Narcan, dude. Yeah, somebody hit him with an EpiPen, like he had a bee sting or something. I'm like, this dude got stung by a eight ball. This dude got stung by a...

• 16:19Speaker 01

He's had a reaction, for sure.

• 16:20Theo Von?

This dude got stung by a warm gram and they're trying to put damn Pepto Bismol in him. People are fucking unbelievable, man.

• 16:28Speaker 01

Hey, man, people start freaking out like that. It, she gets hairy and, and especially if you toy up like that, you don't know what the fuck's gonna happen. So, it's kinda like, oh shit. What do we do here? Well, everybody starts, I think I'm gonna have one myself. Y'all start doing that shit to me.

• 16:43Theo Von?

Oh dude, I see somebody doing Narcan, I'll hit one, dude.

• 16:47Speaker 01

  Can I get one, please?

• 16:49Theo Von?

Did you, uh, do you always feel like you had to party so much? Where does that come from, you think? Is that just, did you grow up partying?

• 16:55Speaker 01

Yeah, not real. I mean, uh, I never felt like I, I had to. It was just, man, I like to have a good time. My whole family likes to have a good time, man. So, it's just kinda, whenever I got, so my parents were pretty strict on me growing up, you know, because they knew the only way I was gonna get out of Pittsburgh was to, you know, on a scholarship or whatever.

• 17:13Theo Von?

  And that's Pittsburgh, Texas, yeah.

• 17:14Speaker 01

Pittsburgh, Texas, yeah. And so, like, they were really strict on me. And so, once I got to college, dude, it was like balls to the wall, like, no parents, you know? Get to college and just hammer it down, man. And then it just, I don't know, I guess it kinda just snowballed and, uh, I don't know, I can drink with the best of, best of them and, uh, I don't know. It's a great, it's a great time out and I've slowed down a whole lot, um, you know, this past couple of years, but I still, uh, I still like to get out there and, and act up a little bit.

• 17:41Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah. Wow, I can't believe that's you slowed down. It's great though. I was, I was envious of people that could party, man. Cause I couldn't do it. I'd get a little too rattled and I'd just start fucking chewing on the fucking walls and shit, you know, I'd just start fucking farming copper out of my own house, dude. You know, I get, I couldn't handle it, dude. I'd call the cops on myself a bunch of times. I'm fucked up.

• 18:05Speaker 01

  That's, that's, that's partying though. I mean, that's, that's hardcore shit.

• 18:10Speaker 01

Hey, that's some partying. I, I don't think I've ever called the cops on myself before. That, that's wild.

• 18:16Theo Von?

Oh yeah, dude. I'll call them bitches, huh?

• 18:20Theo Von?

Oh dude, I'll call the cops for anything, dude. I see, yeah. I remember I was at a UFC fight one night and the guys were beating each other so bad and I fucking called the cops right there. From T-Mobile Arena. It was, uh, Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway were beating each other.

• 18:32Speaker 01

Y'all gotta get down here quick.

• 18:33Theo Von?

Yeah. I said, y'all got a male on male domestic down here.

• 18:36Speaker 01

  Oh my God, bro.

• 18:37Theo Von?

That's what I said. I said, these guys are fighting over jewelry down here. Cause I think winner got the belt.

• 18:41Speaker 01

  Oh really?

• 18:42Theo Von?

So I was like, it's, you got a male on male domestic down here, buddy. You guys, you guys need to send someone.

• 18:45Speaker 01

Need to figure this shit out quick. Dana, what you doing?

• 18:49Theo Von?

Um, yeah. Why the Title IX lives, man?

• 18:51Speaker 01

Oh man, it was kind of, so the record was kind of like, uh, us kind of doing a new, uh, music that we're, we're not known for, you know, usually it's the, the party music, the crazy rock stuff. So this was just kind of the past, the other lives that I could have lived had I not been a musician, you know, or, or traveled down this road. So, um, it's kind of just like a reflection on that. And, uh, I don't know, man. Hmm. Just kind of one of those, one of those things.

• 19:21Theo Von?

Yeah. And I've read that you wrote it pretty quick, like when it finally hit you.

• 19:24Speaker 01

Most of the songs came really quick, man. Like, uh, Gabe Simon, he always say it's, it was like my first therapy session.

• 19:30Theo Von?

  I met him.

• 19:31Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, cool dude. Uh, but he like, he like dug into my life, like into my soul. And I was like bringing out shit that I'd normally never tell, like, uh, Stranger, you know, and he just dug into it, man, and and it helped write the songs really fast, honestly. So, no, yeah, I don't know, man. The songs came out great, you know, it was one of the more uh vulnerable, vulnerable.

• 19:54Theo Von?

  Was it really?

• 19:55Speaker 01

For sure, yeah, for sure. No, I mean, it was just like it was more raw and real than I feel like I'd ever been um playing music, so. So, yeah, it was kind of like a kind of turning a new page on, you know, not leaving the party behind, but just kind of me kind of growing up type shit.

• 20:12Theo Von?

  Damn, fuck dude.

• 20:15Speaker 01

  All right.

• 20:16Theo Von?

He sucks, dude. All the good ones grow up.

• 20:20Speaker 01

I know, you you gonna see me, you gonna see me in the uh the jail log tomorrow? I go to the red door or something tonight?

• 20:25Theo Von?

Yeah, long, yeah, yeah, long as, yeah.

• 20:28Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 20:29Theo Von?

Man, yeah, dude, a lot of the, all the good ones grow up, man. Yeah, they've had that term, um, yeah, because there's so, there's like, um, I mean, I love Jesse Murphy, I've been a Jesse Murphy fan since before I should admit as an adult male. It was like, very strange to tell people that you were a fan, um.

• 20:49Speaker 01

Well, she's got the soul of like a fifty year old, I feel like, or sixty year old, eighty, it's insane. I remember whenever I first heard her, I was like, wait, how old is, and this, she was probably eight, seventeen, eighteen? And I was like, wait, what? And she's such a baller, man, like she walks in the room and it's just like her presence is so huge. And she's just, and she's just this little bitty thing, dude, you know? But amazing, amazing artist.

• 21:15Theo Von?

  She's a fucking grenade.

• 21:16Speaker 01

  Dude, she's insane.

• 21:18Theo Von?

And she's got that look in her eyes like she's just seen it all a million times.

• 21:22Speaker 01

Sure, that's what I'm saying, she's like reincarnated, bro, she's like, yeah, she got it, she got it going on.

• 21:28Theo Von?

Yeah, she might be a refurb or whatever they call it, you know?

• 21:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:31Theo Von?

God, oh, God, y'all are beautiful, and I mean, and I mean both of you too. I do want to say it like that, no, she's so talented, man. That song gets stuck in my head too, man, that high road gets stuck in my head. I'll just be doing nothing or doing something and it'll come out of me, dude.

• 21:47Speaker 01

Where were we at, uh, was getting, I'm getting the IV, I'm hungover as shit.

• 21:52Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, I saw you go.

• 21:53Speaker 01

And I'm just like, I'm just kind of watching the football game and I hear you coming down singing high road, I was like, Jesus Christ. Oh, man.

• 22:01Theo Von?

  I gotta do some.

• 22:02Speaker 01

And it was like, what were we, what were we doing? Uh, what was the stuff? Huh?

• 22:06Speaker 02

  The N A D.

• 22:07Speaker 01

N A D. Oh, yeah. Remember, we were talking about it. You were like doing however many milligrams.

• 22:12Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 22:12Speaker 01

And I was doing like seventy five or a hundred. And I'm over there about to die. And I just hear you coming down singing High Road. And I'm like, God, shut up, please.

• 22:21Theo Von?

Oh, man. It's just wild when you get one that gets stuck in your head.

• 22:25Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure. And you wake up singing it and you can't get, yeah, it's just holiday too.

• 22:29Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 22:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 22:30Theo Von?

It's, it's, it's wild, man. Um, what have I been watching? I was watching that JonBenet Ramsey. You see that stuff?

• 22:36Speaker 01

I hadn't seen it. Is it on Netflix?

• 22:38Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 22:38Speaker 01

  I saw, I haven't watched it yet.

• 22:40Theo Von?

It's, it is like refer, rehab or dash and whatever happened in the law, in the past, you know?

• 22:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:45Theo Von?

  Um.

• 22:46Speaker 01

Is it kind of like Who Did It? Are they still on that?

• 22:48Theo Von?

Yeah, the dad though will now be interviewed. They're like, the dad is in it.

• 22:51Speaker 01

  Okay. Oh, no shit?

• 22:53Theo Von?

Yeah. And the dad, I think that the dad, this is just a thought, a belief of mine. I believe that the dad had had some kind of inappropriate attraction to the child, maybe. I don't know if I can legally say that or not. It's just my belief. And the mother had been envious of that. The mother, um, unalived. You have to say unalived now.

• 23:17Speaker 01

  Oh, really?

• 23:18Theo Von?

  Unalived the child.

• 23:19Speaker 01

  Unalived. You can't, you can't.

• 23:20Theo Von?

Say the other stuff. Yeah, they'll take us down.

• 23:22Speaker 01

  Really?

• 23:23Theo Von?

The mother unalived the child and then they together figured out

• 23:27Speaker 01

  A way to.

• 23:27Theo Von?

The story, right? And neither one of them could rat the other one out because they both had some

• 23:32Speaker 01

Tie, connect, or connection to it.

• 23:33Theo Von?

Some connection. I think it's inappropriate. The mother got envious, put the daughter, it was in all these pageants, all this weird stuff. The mother did it on purpose or accident, and then they both had to help each other cover it up.

• 23:44Speaker 01

Did she, was she ever, she never served time or anything, did she?

• 23:48Theo Von?

  What's?

• 23:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, the, the, the mom?

• 23:49Theo Von?

She never served time, no. She ended up passing away of cancer, I believe.

• 23:52Speaker 01

  Oh, no shit?

• 23:54Theo Von?

  But, um.

• 23:54Speaker 01

I don't think I'm thinking of the same. There's another one.

• 23:56Theo Von?

  You might be Casey Anthony.

• 23:58Speaker 01

  Casey Anthony.

• 23:58Theo Von?

  She lives here, I heard.

• 23:59Speaker 01

  Really?

• 24:00Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 24:01Speaker 01

  What?

• 24:01Theo Von?

Where does Casey Anthony live? You gotta get her out to a show, dude.

• 24:05Speaker 01

I don't know about that one, bro. Jesus. But she, she did, did she serve time?

• 24:11Theo Von?

I don't know. Let me see. Casey, where's Casey Anthony now?

• 24:16Theo Von?

  That's a great question.

• 24:18Speaker 01

No way. She's, she's in Nashville on Broadway every night? Just?

• 24:23Speaker 01

  Jeez.

• 24:28Theo Von?

Leave them Broadway girls alone, that's what she's singing, which is a little morose for a thing. Where, where does it say she live? You see anything on it? Move to Murphysboro, Tennessee.

• 24:39Speaker 01

  Where the fuck is that?

• 24:41Theo Von?

I mean, it sounds like it's close.

• 24:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's gotta be close.

• 24:44Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 24:47Speaker 01

  Man.

• 24:49Theo Von?

Did they have any good big criminals in y'all's town? Any big, any big crime going up over there in Pittsburgh, Texas?

• 24:54Speaker 01

They said the Texas Chainsaw Massacre came through town, but you know, who knows?

• 24:58Theo Von?

Yeah, that could have just been all.

• 24:59Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, he could have been going through.

• 25:01Theo Von?

That could have been a guy just repairing two-stroke motors, too.

• 25:05Speaker 01

  He's still living in Pittsburgh.

• 25:08Speaker 01

Honestly, honestly, he probably is. I think I know who it is, too. No, they said Bonnie and Clyde came through. And one of the sheriffs there, I mean, this was, I mean, it's still, it's only like 4,000 people. But they said they called them ahead of time or let them know somehow via pigeon or some shit. And they were like, hey, get the fuck out. We're coming through. If you want to, if you want to live, just get out of our way.

• 25:32Theo Von?

  Bonnie and Clyde were coming?

• 25:33Speaker 01

Yeah, and they, they rolled through and then nobody gave them shit. Cause they hit out and, or they're from Dallas, I think.

• 25:39Theo Von?

Where's Bonnie and Clyde from? Let's get a look at them.

• 25:41Speaker 01

I'm pretty sure. Oak Cliff, South Oak Cliff. Hey.

• 25:44Theo Von?

Bonnie was the looker, I think.

• 25:46Speaker 01

  Yeah, she was a smoke.

• 25:48Theo Von?

Let's see, let's get a look at them.

• 25:51Theo Von?

Get a look at them. Let's see images there. Bonnie and Clyde.

• 25:57Speaker 01

Oh, did you watch that one with, uh, Emile Hirsch?

• 26:00Theo Von?

  Uh-uh, is it good?

• 26:00Speaker 01

Oh dude, yeah, it's like a three-part series.

• 26:02Theo Von?

  Ooh, I gotta watch that.

• 26:03Speaker 01

  Oh, bro, it's so good.

• 26:05Theo Von?

  Ooh, yeah.

• 26:06Speaker 01

Back in the day, dude. You bet.

• 26:08Theo Von?

Bro, if she looks good even in that picture.

• 26:11Speaker 01

Cause I think Clyde was, Clyde was, he was a little bitty dude, too.

• 26:14Theo Von?

Oh, my God. Oh, there they are.

• 26:15Speaker 01

Imagine taking those pictures back in the day, dude. Like, hey, I'm gonna hold this to you. Get over there with the photo, like the picture.

• 26:21Theo Von?

Yeah, and it, and it, and it smoke comes out of it. It must have felt like Satan was doing it.

• 26:26Speaker 01

It like goes off and like pull the trigger. Yeah, they fucked them up.

• 26:30Theo Von?

  Ooh, look at that.

• 26:32Speaker 01

That was in, that was in, uh. Benville Parish, I think.

• 26:36Theo Von?

On a Louisiana highway and they still have that car.

• 26:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:38Theo Von?

  Where was that at?

• 26:39Speaker 01

I think it was in Benville Parish.

• 26:41Theo Von?

Oh yeah, it sounds about right. Yeah, it is a parish over there. It's been 90 years since a posse of lawmen caught up with the outlaw couple Bonnie and Claude. They were ambushed and killed on a north Louisiana road, but their story is still very much alive. In Gibbsland, Louisiana is where it occurred at. Bonnie and Claude. What kind of pieces of history Bonnie and Claude? What was their biggest heist? What was Bonnie and Claude's biggest heist, I wonder?

• 27:09Speaker 01

Where, where are you from, Louisiana?

• 27:11Theo Von?

I'm from Covington, Louisiana. We didn't have anything.

• 27:13Speaker 01

  Covington.

• 27:14Theo Von?

Lee Harvey Oswald went to our middle school, it was our big thing.

• 27:17Speaker 01

  Damn, that's pretty big.

• 27:18Theo Von?

The gang robbed the First National Bank in Stewart, Iowa in 1934.

• 27:24Theo Von?

  They did some kidnapping.

• 27:26Speaker 01

  Kidnapping? I didn't know that.

• 27:28Theo Von?

But it says kidnapping of a man and woman.

• 27:30Speaker 01

  Oh, that's not kidnapping.

• 27:31Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's just.

• 27:32Speaker 01

  Just napping.

• 27:35Theo Von?

Yeah, just making friends, dude. And some car theft. Damn, they weren't even as bad as some of the, um, these Travis Scott fans, I feel like.

• 27:46Speaker 01

You need to, uh, you need to look, watch that, uh, it's like a three-part series. It's got, if you like Mill Hirsch, I love Mill Hirsch.

• 27:52Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 27:53Speaker 01

And, um, it's, it's, it's great, man, but they kind of went through their whole, apparently it was pretty spot on from everything, but.

• 28:03Theo Von?

Yeah, that'd be, I wonder if I could do a good crime.

• 28:06Speaker 01

Dude, I'll, do you like, like the, like the history, like the gangsters and stuff like Dillinger and all that shit? Yeah, that's, uh, that's up my alley, man. Babyface, Pretty Boy Floyd and all them.

• 28:17Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, remember, well, they used to have that, what was that movie that had all those guys in it?

• 28:21Speaker 01

  Uh, Public Enemy.

• 28:22Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 28:23Speaker 01

Yeah, that's a good one. Lot of good actors.

• 28:26Theo Von?

Dude, yeah, I wonder if I could be a good criminal or not? What kind of crime I would do? I wouldn't do kidnapping, because I don't want some dumb fucking kid around all the time.

• 28:35Speaker 01

That's, that'd be annoying as fuck.

• 28:37Theo Von?

Yeah, and you're like, and you have to, what? Then you're like, and also you're gonna get caught, you're gonna have to go to McDonald's all the time or whatever?

• 28:42Speaker 01

That's bad rap, yeah, we don't, yeah, no kids. Oh.

• 28:46Theo Von?

So, yeah, I would do something with adults, probably, or. What's a good crime? Train robbing would be sick.

• 28:53Speaker 01

I think about that all the time, like back in the gap, like cowboy days, dude.

• 28:57Theo Von?

  Pulling up on that thing.

• 28:58Speaker 01

Just throwing up a dynamite in there and throwing it up.

• 29:01Theo Von?

And there's some rich guy just eating in the window or whatever.

• 29:04Speaker 01

What the fuck's going on over here?

• 29:05Theo Von?

Pop one off into him, just shoot right through his Salisbury steak or something. Next thing you know, you're in there, but then you get in there and you have to look for the money. That's gotta be the worst.

• 29:14Speaker 01

Somebody tell us where the fuck it is. But no, that's like a gunslinger back in the day, man, that'd be so sick.

• 29:20Theo Von?

I know, it'd be so wild. I was just reading about a lot of hookers and stuff that were on the, um, like whenever they had Gold Rush and stuff like that, like a lot of hookers started up some big, uh, maddoming and stuff out there in those Gold Rush towns, yeah. And it was pretty wild and they would, you know, they'd get other women to work for them and stuff like that. It's just kind of fascinating to learn about. But yeah, I wonder if I could do a good, oh, you know what would be a good crime, I think? Get a hot air balloon, drop in that way. Nobody sees that shit coming.

• 29:50Speaker 01

No, absolutely. Like first be like, what the fuck is happening?

• 29:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 29:55Speaker 01

Yeah, like, I don't know, with drones and shit, probably you couldn't get away with that. I mean, maybe back in the gap, yeah.

• 30:02Theo Von?

Yeah, but yeah, drones, yeah. I wonder if we'll be able to travel by drone. They have that stuff now where you can kind of.

• 30:08Speaker 01

I saw one the other day. It's like somebody sits in it and it's got the blades though. Don't look too safe though. Like, how many beers do I need before I get in this thing?

• 30:18Theo Von?

Especially if your buddy gets a hold of that remote for 30 seconds, dude? He's taking you right into some power lines, dude.

• 30:25Speaker 01

He's done some fucked up shit to me. Let me see it, bro. Like, you would have done the same for me, buddy.

• 30:29Theo Von?

Yeah, and if you're, especially if you're wearing like a Vols jersey or something, he just takes you around. He takes you into Athens, Georgia.

• 30:36Speaker 01

That's what I'm talking about, yes. See, that shit don't look safe.

• 30:39Theo Von?

Oh, hell no. That's look like something Kid Rock would buy.

• 30:42Speaker 01

Kid Rock has one right now, bro. We hear, we just pulls up.

• 30:46Theo Von?

That thing runs on probably diesel or some kerosene. Or just runs on some of Kid Rock's bad music, dude.

• 30:54Speaker 01

  Kid Rock, dude.

• 30:56Theo Von?

Every time you play ball with a ball, it fucking takes off.

• 30:59Speaker 01

  Balls.

• 31:02Theo Von?

I'm joking, I'm joking Bob, I'm joking dude.

• 31:04Speaker 01

  Oh Bob, man.

• 31:06Theo Von?

• 34:24Speaker 01

Yeah, we, we don't, I don't like to do it, man. We haven't, we haven't done it a whole lot. I think, we didn't have to cancel any on this tour. Uh, oh, yeah, festival, I got sick for, and then whenever y'all, the hurricane came through, we had to cancel show, we had to reschedule. But, uh, last year during the Hell Passo tour, man, like I said, it was crazy. I would just get, you know, the whiskey and everything. I give up whiskey, by the way, this year, I stopped drinking whiskey. Switched to tequila, but, uh, you know, last year at the Hell Passo, dude, I was just, I get to a point where I couldn't talk, you know, and I would just be giving it everything just to say a sentence or whatever, and we had to cancel a couple, and that, that sucked. So after that, dude, I was like, no more, you know, so.

• 35:07Theo Von?

  And shut that whiskey down.

• 35:08Speaker 01

Dude, as much as I love it, it's just, man, it's rough on you, man. And like, you know, I can drink tequila and not feel half as bad as I do with whiskey.

• 35:17Theo Von?

Well, your legs don't work as good and your neck.

• 35:20Speaker 01

Hey dude, yeah, you get that, that 15 gallon in the head, bruh, somebody just starts swinging back and forth. And like I'll be like a cat, like I hit the ground and bounce up really quick and think that nobody noticed, but I'm so big, it just shakes shit off the wall and be like, what the fuck is up with this guy?

• 35:36Theo Von?

Like Chris Farley just laying it on a table? That's nine lives, man. Wild dude. Oh, they kicked you out? I remember that one actually, dude. I remember that.

• 35:45Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, when they kicked me out?

• 35:47Theo Von?

That's fun, bro. Yeah, your whole journey, so you guys do such a good job of sharing your journey, honestly, like on, uh, social media, dude. I feel like you guys are just really earnest about everything that happens in y'all's world. You know, a lot of people don't really operate that way. You know, you guys are just really, uh, I think clear to your fans and stuff. Do you feel like, um, and that, I think that alone kind of keeps you away from being like a mainstream thing, you know? Cause you don't have a PR guy telling you this or telling you that.

• 36:15Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure. And it's like, and with the fans too, it's not like, if I were to do something, it's kind of like, they're not gonna be shocked by it, you know? They're like, oh, you know, fuck off for doing that, you know? It's been, it's kind of been our thing from the get-go is kind of be ourselves, you know? Like, we're not gonna change for anybody, we're not gonna act like somebody that we're not, you know? So, uh, I think it's kind of been it and, you know, people have kind of embraced us for, for doing that and that's kind of like, you know, puts us apart from, from other people, you know, I think.

• 36:43Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 36:44Speaker 01

So, um, yeah, I don't know. I mean, some of it maybe wouldn't, uh, would rather it not be out there, but you know, it's, it's, it's just life, man.

• 36:53Theo Von?

  Yeah, it's the realness though.

• 36:54Speaker 01

  Yeah, man, for sure.

• 36:55Theo Von?

And it makes it, it really makes it you. It's like, that is him. It's like, that is his world and it's really the world that most people can relate to. Who can relate to some type of perfect, polished, fucking?

• 37:06Speaker 01

Yeah. There's gotta be some excitement a little bit, you know? There's gotta be a little bit of excitement, a little bit of spice.

• 37:10Theo Von?

  Somebody's gotta go missing.

• 37:11Speaker 01

Yeah. Somebody's gotta go to jail. We gotta figure out where this dude is.

• 37:17Theo Von?

Yeah, you guys have always kind of been in like, and kind of put in this outlaw country type of place, you know?

• 37:21Speaker 01

  No.

• 37:22Theo Von?

Um, do you feel like there's still a lot of outlaws in the business? Do you feel like it's, it's growing? Do you feel like it's changing? What do you think? Who are the outlaws? Who were your outlaws at first?

• 37:31Speaker 01

Man, yeah, I think there's some outlaws out there for sure. Um, maybe not, maybe not that are as, you know, like maybe as big, I would say, but there's, there's definitely some dogs out there. Um, man, I don't know.

• 37:50Speaker 01

  Kinda hard to.

• 37:53Speaker 01

I don't know. Who you say is a dog out there, man?

• 37:58Speaker 01

Paul Cawthon, Paul Cawthon is about as close to, you know who Paul Cawthon is?

• 38:02Theo Von?

I've heard of it, I've heard of him.

• 38:04Speaker 01

He's about as close to a outlaw as I get, man. He doesn't give, he doesn't give a fuck. Dude, he's a, my dog, yeah. He's a, he's a beast, man. His music's great. Uh, man, he lives what he writes, man. He's, he's a, he's definitely an outlaw right now, man.

• 38:20Theo Von?

Gang. Yeah, I'd like to get to meet that man.

• 38:23Speaker 01

Dude, you, you've gotta, you gotta have him on, man. He is, he is his own person and dude, he's a, he's a legend.

• 38:30Theo Von?

  He's one on one, huh?

• 38:31Speaker 01

Absolutely, man. East Texas legend for sure.

• 38:34Theo Von?

I think there's a lot of guys that still, I mean, in a weird way, there's, there are, a lot of people kinda do it their own way now because they make their own road.

• 38:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:42Theo Von?

Like with social media especially and just, filming your own content or behind the scenes or whatever, you, you make your own shit now. It's not like you, need to have some big producer help you do it.

• 38:53Speaker 01

Yeah, like I've said before, like I don't think, the word outlaw is what it used to be, you know, like I think it's, it's kinda doing what you're talking about, just going out and doing everything your own way. You know, paving your own road and just kinda being a trailblazer pretty much, you know, I think that's, ain't going to be considered as being an outlaw. Um, cause it's not, it's not the eighties anymore, you know, we can't get, can't get away with a whole lot of shit these days, man.

• 39:18Theo Von?

  Everybody's a narc.

• 39:19Speaker 01

  Dude, man.

• 39:20Theo Von?

Dude, remember when they had fucking narcs and shit, dude? Dude, first of all, the shittiest job you could get in high school was being a fucking narc.

• 39:27Speaker 01

  Dude, I swear.

• 39:28Theo Von?

Bro, they gave you a little card and it was like, congratulations, thank you.

• 39:32Speaker 01

  You're a narc.

• 39:33Theo Von?

Yeah, yeah. And it said it on the card and I was like, that's the one thing you can't put on the card, dude? And then that dude would, like he would try to arrest people at a party or something. People would beat the shit out of him.

• 39:47Speaker 01

  School's out, bitch.

• 39:49Theo Von?

And then it would take the cops like three weeks to have a meeting with the kid or whatever. And it's just the whole system.

• 39:56Speaker 01

Oh, man. That's why, yeah, I wish, uh, I could go back, you think about like the Motley Crue days, like the eighties, bro. Did you didn't li- did you live through the eighties?

• 40:06Theo Von?

I was alive in them, but yeah, I was small.

• 40:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, you were younger.

• 40:09Theo Von?

But yeah, I mean, you talk to guys like, um, like I remember my first concert I went to was Marilyn Manson, right?

• 40:15Speaker 01

  Oh, dog.

• 40:15Theo Von?

And this dude took us and yeah, or and he was like a, um, I guess he was like a pedophile or whatever. We didn't know he was, right? So he was just a guy we knew who was also a pedophile, but we didn't know that part. But anyway, he took us over. He's like, I can get y'all tickets to Marilyn Manson. We just started listening to him, dude. And I think we were probably about 14. And this dude, um, dropped us off there and we're the only people underage that were in there. Like they, I think it was, it was probably an 18 show. And like Manson, like cut open Twiggy Ramirez or like one of his, uh, one of the other band members with a bottle. Somebody cut, one of the band members cut themselves open or cut another one open with a bottle on stage. He was like bleeding everywhere. The ambulance had to come.

• 41:00Speaker 01

I bet y'all were like, holy shit.

• 41:02Theo Von?

It was awesome. Dude, we're in the bathroom peeing and somebody goes, what are these kids doing in here?

• 41:07Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 41:08Theo Von?

And then somebody else from another stall goes, don't worry, somebody will.

• 41:15Theo Von?

  That's what somebody said, dude.

• 41:17Speaker 01

Well, the first red flag should have been this dude just getting y'all Marilyn Manson tickets. Feel like, oh, my God.

• 41:24Theo Von?

  Slangenstein was his name, bro.

• 41:26Speaker 01

Did he go in with y'all?

• 41:27Theo Von?

No, no, no, no. He went to gamble. Pull him up, Richard, uh, Langenstein. Pull him up and he was just a real.

• 41:35Speaker 01

Oh, he was a known pedophile.

• 41:36Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, yeah. He was, uh, he won, he hadn't won awards or whatever, but he was, um.

• 41:43Theo Von?

He was in the trenches or whatever.

• 41:44Speaker 01

  Is that him?

• 41:45Theo Von?

No, maybe there's more than one of them.

• 41:48Speaker 01

Jeez, that guy right there with the, the father out there.

• 41:51Theo Von?

We can't show the wrong one. That guy, um, oh, that's.

• 41:57Speaker 01

  No, that looks like.

• 41:59Theo Von?

  Oh, that's a, yeah, that's a liberal.

• 42:01Speaker 01

Oh, man. Yeah, Theo, bro, he got Theo pulls up.

• 42:06Theo Von?

That guy's a bookie. Hold on. That one guy's a bookie. Go back. Yeah, that guy's just a bookie. Up one? No, right? Right there. Yeah. That guy's just taking wagers on the jets, dude. That's, yeah. We have to take some of this out because we just accused a lot of guys being pedophiles. But no, old Slangenstein, he wasn't bad. He was, he was what he was.

• 42:26Speaker 01

  Slangenstein.

• 42:27Theo Von?

That's what they called him. Um, but yeah, that was my first show. What was yours, man?

• 42:31Speaker 01

  Uh, first show?

• 42:32Theo Von?

  Do you really remember?

• 42:33Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, so my mom played, uh, she do like old Opry houses and stuff like that, so.

• 42:39Theo Von?

  She was a singer?

• 42:39Speaker 01

Yeah, she was, she was, she sang and, uh, just played with like a bunch of old drunk, uh, honky tonk dudes, right? I'd be that little shithead kid like running up and down the hall, throwing popcorn at people. And, uh, yeah, so I mean, I was, I was around, uh, music growing up, but I think my first actual concert was, uh, Stony La Rue. You ever heard of Stony La Rue?

• 43:00Theo Von?

  Bring him up.

• 43:00Speaker 01

  He's, uh, he's.

• 43:01Theo Von?

  A man or woman?

• 43:02Speaker 01

Uh, dude, he, uh, he's like a, he's Red Dirt King, man, Oklahoma Cat. Um, there he is.

• 43:09Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 43:10Speaker 01

And, uh, he had to get into, into his music, man. He's phenomenal. Um, and it was at the Waco Fairgrounds. My cousins were going to Baylor.

• 43:18Theo Von?

  Mm-hmm.

• 43:18Speaker 01

I think I was like sixth or seventh grade maybe and, uh, these college girls come up to me like, hey, what's going on? You know, and my cousin, her friend steps in, she's like, hey babe, here's your beer and like just trying to deter them or whatever. And I take this beer and I hammer it and they're like, all right, whatever. She's like, what the fuck are you doing? We're supposed to drink that beer. I'm like, so we get back to the hotel that night. My mom beats my ass. It's all good.

• 43:43Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 43:43Speaker 01

But Stony, I'll never forget it. Yeah. Texas moon.

• 43:47Theo Von?

  Stony La Rue.

• 43:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 43:49Theo Von?

  Um, and.

• 43:52Theo Von?

  Is he still alive?

• 43:53Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 43:54Theo Von?

  Oh, good.

• 43:55Speaker 01

Yeah, he's got some, uh, he's got some bangers.

• 43:57Theo Von?

That warms my heart, dude. I just saw Struggle Jennings play. We're playing in the same town.

• 44:01Speaker 01

  Oh, really?

• 44:01Theo Von?

  Pretty cool, man.

• 44:02Speaker 01

  I haven't, uh, I hadn't met Struggle yet.

• 44:06Theo Von?

Him and, yeah, cause he was him and Jelly Roll are friends. And Yellow Wolf, that whole gang, remember? That was really that white, um, sort of, uh, yeah, that Slumeric and that sort of fucking missing person.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  I like Wolf, man.

• 44:22Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. They, all of that Yellow Wolf, Jelly Roll.

• 44:27Speaker 01

I used to listen to Pop the Truck before football games, man, and just like.

• 44:31Theo Von?

Oh, there's, I don't know if there is a better anthem, dude.

• 44:34Speaker 01

  Dude, it's so good.

• 44:35Theo Von?

Yeah, dude, they even had, they had Jelly Roll out there, Yellow Wolf. We even saw Jelly Wolf was out there. We're like, who the fuck is that? It's just some-

• 44:42Speaker 01

It's just some dude in ICP, man.

• 44:46Theo Von?

It's just a fucking, yeah. It was Jelly Wolf, yeah, it was just, it was a Saint Bernard with a couple of face tattoos on him.

• 44:54Speaker 01

Oh, man, driving a Cybertruck, bro.

• 44:58Theo Von?

Well, we saw Struggle, man. It was awesome to go see him. He puts on a great show. Where was it? I think, I feel like it was in Montana, somewhere, where we got to go meet him backstage after and, um, with his crew. He's got a great group. See, who's performing with him real quick? Who, who, who's out there on the road with the-

• 45:13Speaker 01

I mean, that's another outlaw right there, I mean.

• 45:16Theo Von?

With Struggle Jennings. Yeah, he's been out there doing it, man. He's been out there doing it.

• 45:24Theo Von?

Yeah, and you know, there's something also, there's something nice about when you have a, um, when you're not as mainstream.

• 45:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:33Theo Von?

That there's a real relationship between you and your fans.

• 45:36Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 45:37Theo Von?

Katelyn Curtis and Brianna Harness, or Brianna Harness. I don't know if that's the newest tour or not.

• 45:45Speaker 01

  Is that Tom McDonald?

• 45:48Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah, it might be.

• 45:49Speaker 01

  I think, is he, he's a, is he, he's a rapper?

• 45:51Theo Von?

They had a song together, I think.

• 45:53Speaker 01

  Yeah, he's cool.

• 45:55Theo Von?

  Oh, Tommy Vax, dude?

• 45:57Speaker 01

  It's Tommy Vax.

• 45:58Theo Von?

Wow, bro, that's crazy. I know him.

• 46:02Speaker 01

  I know him.

• 46:03Theo Von?

That's just crazy. Well, sometimes you just, it's amazing who you see on Google of who you know.

• 46:10Theo Von?

  Um.

• 46:12Speaker 01

  Rock music.

• 46:13Theo Von?

Yeah, he's a rock dog right there.

• 46:16Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, for sure.

• 46:19Theo Von?

Um, yeah, there's something nice about when something is, uh, still grassroots.

• 46:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 46:24Theo Von?

That you feel this weird thing. It's like, it's like your thing.

• 46:28Speaker 01

Yeah, and I feel like it gives the fans like a, a, a more of a connection, you know, like.

• 46:32Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 46:33Speaker 01

That he's one of us, you know, like type shit.

• 46:35Theo Von?

You go see him and then like, man, he's one of us, dude. He's the same.

• 46:40Speaker 01

Good, we got one of us. We accept you one of us.

• 46:43Theo Von?

  What is that?

• 46:44Speaker 01

The Wolf of Wall Street, when they're sitting there. You never see that?

• 46:47Theo Von?

I've seen it, yeah, yeah, yeah. And what, he's in a wheelchair? What is, what happened?

• 46:52Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 46:53Theo Von?

  God.

• 46:53Speaker 01

I think it's whenever talking about the little people, strapping them to the board.

• 46:56Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 46:57Speaker 01

And sliding them down at the, the pins.

• 46:59Theo Von?

  Different times, dude.

• 47:00Speaker 01

When was, that would have been early nineties, late eighties?

• 47:03Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, dude, if I was, if I was back then, I would have definitely been doing, I'm not gonna say it out loud, I'll spell it real quick in case there's any kids listening in the cars anywhere. M U R D E R S.

• 47:17Theo Von?

And that's what I would have been doing. But now they catch you. You can't even do no good crime anymore.

• 47:22Speaker 01

  You can't.

• 47:23Theo Von?

That's the thing, we're taking a lot of fun out of it. You can't be a train robber, you can't, the horse will rat you out now.

• 47:28Speaker 01

It's like, and it's only for like, a little bit, like five years at a time, 10 years at a time, until it blows up and it's like, ah, man, you missed that, you know?

• 47:37Theo Von?

  Like, what do you mean?

• 47:38Speaker 01

I mean, just like, like train robbing or like robbing shit or whatever, or, you know, partying really fucking hard in the eighties and then just slowing down and.

• 47:46Theo Von?

People part, I just, I wonder who partied the hard. We had Tommy Lee on one time, he's a fucking greatest dude.

• 47:52Speaker 01

Oh, I'm a big Molly Crew guy, so.

• 47:54Theo Von?

  Bro, they were so good.

• 47:55Speaker 01

  Girls, girls, girls.

• 47:57Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 47:57Speaker 01

  Girls, girls, girls.

• 48:00Theo Von?

God, dude, I can't even imagine. And he was good looking.

• 48:04Speaker 01

Yeah, that was the deal like they they had they had everything, bro.

• 48:08Theo Von?

That you being famous and then also being good looking like what a lucky dog.

• 48:16Speaker 01

I think Tommy was he was really young too, right? Whenever all that was going on. Yeah, imagine having all that all that going on at twenty one, twenty, bro. I wouldn't be alive.

• 48:27Theo Von?

  I would not be alive.

• 48:27Speaker 01

  There's no way.

• 48:29Theo Von?

I wouldn't be alive like Columbia, people from Columbia or whatever the ambassador, they're always sending me these come down to Columbia, we'd love to have you down here, I guess.

• 48:36Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't want to be there.

• 48:38Theo Von?

I'm like, dude, they're like, we'll give you five free tickets to Columbia. I'm like, dude, I will fucking.

• 48:45Speaker 01

If they do holler at me, I'll go with.

• 48:47Theo Von?

I will die down there, bro.

• 48:48Speaker 01

You fucking going to Columbia? They said it's actually really nice to go to these days.

• 48:53Theo Von?

Sure it is, but I think it's, yeah, I just think they want to do ransoms or whatever. That's the thing. So they try to get you down there.

• 49:01Speaker 01

  Fuck that.

• 49:02Theo Von?

And they want to do ransoms. Yeah, I would not make it down there. Oh, dude, if I even grew up in Columbia, I would get an eight ball for like my seventh birthday.

• 49:12Theo Von?

And I it would be lights out, bro.

• 49:15Speaker 01

We're mainlining this shit for my birthday.

• 49:17Theo Von?

Um, what's the town in Texas? We got some shows coming up in Texas. We're going to Benton.

• 49:21Speaker 01

  Benton, Texas?

• 49:22Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:23Speaker 01

  Uh.

• 49:25Theo Von?

We're going to Texas A and M over there and um.

• 49:27Speaker 01

Nice. Where are you? We're at in College Station.

• 49:29Theo Von?

Not sure. There's a new casino in Benton.

• 49:32Speaker 01

  Oh shit.

• 49:33Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:35Speaker 01

  Is it?

• 49:36Theo Von?

  Oh, Belton, sorry.

• 49:37Speaker 01

  Belton, yeah, yeah, Belton.

• 49:38Theo Von?

They keep changing the name of it.

• 49:40Speaker 01

  Belton's out there by Waco.

• 49:41Theo Von?

Yeah, we're going over to Belton.

• 49:43Speaker 01

Uh, Waco is where so when Parker was on, he told you this to worry about that strip club or whatever we went to?

• 49:49Theo Von?

  Mm hmm.

• 49:49Speaker 01

And yeah, that's right outside of Waco.

• 49:51Theo Von?

  Is it a good spot?

• 49:52Speaker 01

No, it's the shittiest strip club in the world.

• 49:54Theo Von?

Is that the best one you've ever been to, you think?

• 49:56Speaker 01

  Strip club?

• 49:56Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:57Speaker 01

Absolutely not, no. But uh, it needed it needed to be redecorated, I guess. And so I just, I I gave it to him, dude, but.

• 50:08Theo Von?

Who the fuck is even decorating a strip?

• 50:11Speaker 01

There were just mirrors everywhere and I was like, man, fuck one of these mirrors, bro. Dude, I found, I found the pictures. That he was talking about like us kicking holes in the drywall and shit and so somebody had found him and sent him to me. And I was like, oh, fuck, man. And it's just us kind of like pass out next to him, like drywall everywhere.

• 50:34Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 50:35Speaker 01

What, we had some good times.

• 50:37Theo Von?

I've been to some, I'm trying to think of one, oh, in Shreveport, Louisiana, they had a strip club and they had a woman in there that was built like a damn cenotar or whatever.

• 50:45Speaker 01

  Is that the one?

• 50:46Theo Von?

Or Minotaur, pull up cenotar or Minotaur.

• 50:50Theo Von?

One of them's on, uh, test two hundred, I think. I don't remember which one it is, but one of them. Which one is that? Centaur, yeah.

• 50:59Speaker 01

  Centaur.

• 50:59Theo Von?

This lady was centarred up and she was definitely.

• 51:04Speaker 01

What, it's, it's probably Larry Flynt saying if it was in Shreveport.

• 51:09Speaker 01

  Larry Flynt is pretty good.

• 51:11Theo Von?

This was not that good. This was, uh.

• 51:17Theo Von?

This lady, yeah, this lady looked like a damn off-duty pony. She just, yeah, like.

• 51:24Speaker 01

  Like a Monday night.

• 51:25Theo Von?

Oh, bro, and she was on the tallest heels ever. She was trying to make herself look taller. I think she was. Hurt them heels, bro, them bitches were, I mean, they, if you took, they had the little sticker on them with like this on the top of a ladder, do not step right here. That was all them bitches, dude.

• 51:42Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 51:42Theo Von?

She was in them, god, it was so nerve-wracking seeing her up there.

• 51:46Speaker 01

You spend a lot of time, I, yeah, Louisiana.

• 51:48Theo Von?

Over the years I have, I used to go to comedy clubs there. You know what's kind of sad is you go to clubs and over the years they close down.

• 51:54Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 51:55Theo Von?

  Is that same with music?

• 51:56Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, kind of the same. I mean, there's like.

• 52:01Speaker 01

Businesses really don't last a whole lot, like a long time over there for some reason. I don't know why, I mean, it's kind of everywhere in Louisiana, East Texas, like, you know, unless they're established or a big chain, they just, they don't last for some reason, I don't know what it is.

• 52:16Theo Von?

That's a good point, man. Yeah, I always wanted to go to Longview, I never got to go there.

• 52:20Speaker 01

See, that's, every time I went to like the mall and somewhere nice to eat or whatever, we'd have to go to Longview to go, so. How how far did you grow up from Shreveport?

• 52:28Theo Von?

  Uh, like four hours.

• 52:30Speaker 01

Yeah, okay. So you're like middle of them.

• 52:32Theo Von?

Yeah, I'm a little, I'm like, I'm north of New Orleans, about one hours.

• 52:35Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 52:36Theo Von?

  So our town's pretty normal.

• 52:37Speaker 01

  Do you go to Boeum?

• 52:38Theo Von?

About four thousand, about same time, same size as your town.

• 52:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:40Theo Von?

Kind of a perfect size for a town.

• 52:41Speaker 01

  Yeah, I love it.

• 52:43Theo Von?

Dude, there was nothing better, dude. Cause you were just, there was like two, there was enough. There was just enough people to make things interesting.

• 52:54Speaker 01

Yeah, like you you knew everybody, but the select few you didn't know, you kind of made up your own stories. It's kind of like, kind of mysterious, like, I wonder what they do. Why don't they come to church?

• 53:05Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, yeah, we had a dude that had a, they bought him a bike and he was, he might have been mentally disabled or something. But he might not have been, right?

• 53:13Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 53:14Theo Von?

We don't know him. And but his bike had a baby seat on the back of it. So there was this story that like he had a kid that had like, uh, gone missing or whatever. And he would always ride in around, it was like a sad man whose wife had left him after the baby had been, um, missing or whatever.

• 53:30Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 53:31Theo Von?

And that's what people thought for years. And it was like, people would like pray for him when he drove by or whatever. And, um, or give him milk, money, all kind of shit, leave pies in his yard and stuff. And then years later, we found out he's just a mentally handicapped guy and somebody gotten him a, um, a used bike that had a baby seat on it off of.

• 53:48Speaker 01

He just didn't know how to take it off.

• 53:49Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 53:52Theo Von?

And we were like, damn, brother, we fucking gave that dude a lot of dessert. We gave him a lot of dessert.

• 53:59Speaker 01

The prayers were used though, you know, the prayers, that was good, man.

• 54:02Theo Von?

But it was so sad. He would always be like in the distance, like looking at us, like when we got off the school bus.

• 54:07Speaker 01

  On a tree, yeah.

• 54:08Theo Von?

Yeah, I think he just wanted.

• 54:11Theo Von?

Yeah, I think he just wanted buddies, you know?

• 54:14Speaker 01

  Oh, man, dude. That's good.

• 54:16Theo Von?

But it's so crazy, just because of that story, we didn't know, we thought he was this sad dad.

• 54:20Speaker 01

So you come up with all these different, you know, scenarios and stories and shit, and then it's kind of like, it just becomes like a big fable. Like it's like, oh man.

• 54:29Theo Von?

But you have a town that's just big enough to support that kind of, where there's like, just enough room for rumors to happen.

• 54:34Speaker 01

For sure, one hundred percent. You can't get away with like the gossip, all of the drama, all the shit like that.

• 54:39Theo Von?

And I remember when I was a kid, you would hear like an older kid's name, like he was like two years older, three or four years older. And you were like, oh, that's the toughest guy in the whole world.

• 54:48Speaker 01

  Don't mess with him, dude.

• 54:49Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 54:50Speaker 01

  He's so cool.

• 54:51Theo Von?

That was crazy, dude. That was fun being young, man.

• 54:54Speaker 01

  It was, man.

• 54:55Theo Von?

That shit was the best. Yeah, you said your parents were kind of strict growing up.

• 54:59Speaker 01

  No.

• 54:59Theo Von?

And were they two of your siblings as well, or just you?

• 55:01Speaker 01

No, just me, honestly, man, like.

• 55:05Theo Von?

I think you were just a bad kid.

• 55:06Speaker 01

I honestly, I was kind of a little shithead growing up, man, but.

• 55:10Theo Von?

I love that, he's like, you know, they was kind of strict on me.

• 55:13Speaker 01

I mean, but, but like, I mean, I was, I was always well mannered, you know, I mean.

• 55:18Theo Von?

Oh, you were the most likeable guys. You were one of the, you were by far one of the guys anywhere. I have never heard anyone say anything uncomplimentary about coeds.

• 55:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:32Theo Von?

  Except your parents, I guess.

• 55:33Speaker 01

Yeah, except for Garrett, they'll just whooping the shit out of me. Uh, but no, like, I mean, I guess as like a little kid, I, I was kind of a turd. Because I mean, I was, I was the only kid till I was eight years old. So, you know, I didn't know no better, you know? And then Presley came up and then my younger sister Zoe, but uh.

• 55:51Theo Von?

Why'd they wait eight years? Do you think, any word on that?

• 55:53Speaker 01

  I don't know, man. I, I, I have no idea.

• 55:55Theo Von?

  That's rare, kind of.

• 55:56Speaker 01

After, well, yeah, whatever happened, I was like, fuck, bro, like, this, yeah, yeah, because I, yeah, they.

• 56:01Theo Von?

  They had enough.

• 56:02Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure. But, uh, yeah, I don't know, they were super strict on me. And then my middle sister, I mean, not really. And then Zoe K, they just let her run ragged, bro.

• 56:13Theo Von?

  Is she all right?

• 56:13Speaker 01

  Oh, she's a sweetheart. She's, she's an angel, man. She's a.

• 56:16Theo Von?

  Married or not?

• 56:17Speaker 01

  Not married. Super smart, um.

• 56:21Speaker 01

Yeah, she's almost done with college.

• 56:23Theo Von?

Oh, God, I gotta get a wife.

• 56:24Speaker 01

I think you're gonna be one of the first Wetzel's to graduate college.

• 56:27Theo Von?

  No way.

• 56:28Speaker 01

  So shout out Z K.

• 56:31Theo Von?

Let's get a picture of her, Zoe.

• 56:33Speaker 01

  Yeah, Zoe K, yeah.

• 56:34Theo Von?

  Zoe K Wetzel.

• 56:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:36Theo Von?

Um, yeah, dude, yeah, she's graduating.

• 56:40Speaker 01

Yeah, man, she's, I think she's got like a couple of semesters left.

• 56:44Theo Von?

  Oh, hell, yeah.

• 56:49Theo Von?

Zoe K right there graduating. Where's she graduating from?

• 56:52Speaker 01

Uh, so she went to, she went to Texas Tech. She got her, uh, associates in Texas Tech, at Texas Tech, and then.

• 57:01Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, Red Raider country. That's Cliff Kingsbury country over there.

• 57:05Speaker 01

  And then.

• 57:05Theo Von?

  And Mahomes country, isn't it?

• 57:06Speaker 01

Mahomes, you bet. Uh, yeah, and so, um, now she's just finishing, finishing up nursing school, so.

• 57:13Theo Von?

Oh, she's gonna be a nurse? No way.

• 57:14Speaker 01

She wants to be a nurse practitioner. And so I was like, you know what? It's like, fuck it, you know, do the whole thing, you know, might as well.

• 57:21Theo Von?

Yeah, be a, be a fucking, yeah, be the Carmelo Anthony in nurses, you know what I'm saying? Be like a.

• 57:26Speaker 01

Go be a doctor. Who gives a shit?

• 57:28Theo Von?

  Yeah, be the best one.

• 57:29Speaker 01

Yeah, try to get some scripts, you know what I mean?

• 57:31Theo Von?

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

• 57:34Speaker 01

  Hell, yeah.

• 57:34Theo Von?

Too much of this. Uh, yeah, I'm sick of, I'm sick of buying this shit that's been stepped off.

• 57:37Speaker 01

  For these shady ass motherfuckers.

• 57:40Theo Von?

Oh, for sure, dude. I want that governmental stuff, baby.

• 57:44Speaker 01

Try to buy shit behind McDonald's. Come on.

• 57:47Theo Von?

Yeah, my sister's a nurse. I just asked her, she's like, what do you want for Christmas? I said, I want some Toradol shots.

• 57:53Theo Von?

If my back gets bad on the road, I can just use them.

• 57:56Speaker 01

Even if I'm not hurting, whenever I'm getting out, you know, like, give me some of that Toradol.

• 57:59Theo Von?

  Put it in. Oh, yeah.

• 58:01Speaker 01

Give me all the, all the goods.

• 58:02Theo Von?

That's how I'll do it. Yeah, I gotta get a wife, man, next year. That's one of my goals. Twenty twenty wife, that's what I'm calling it.

• 58:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, wife twenty twenty five.

• 58:10Theo Von?

  I'm in.

• 58:10Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 58:12Theo Von?

• 59:35Theo Von?

Were they like, okay, Co, what are you doing here, buddy? You need to get you a, uh? You need to fill out an application somewhere, bubba.

• 59:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, they, so.

• 59:43Theo Von?

Or were they, how did they, um, how have they supported your music over the years? What's that been like?

• 59:47Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, they've, they've always been super supportive. Uh, but obviously, you know, them being parents, they were like. I remember whenever I was in, uh, I got kicked out of school at Charlton State.

• 59:57Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 59:58Speaker 01

And so, uh, you know, and, and they'd like to, they'd like to come in and, and check on me like once a year or whatever. And.

• 1:00:05Theo Von?

  Who do your parents?

• 1:00:06Speaker 01

Yeah, my parents. And so I'm living basically in a garage, on a couch in a garage. At one of my buddy's house and they like, they like come in and it's like. And I'm, I'm, I was sick for some reason. I had like the flu or something. But I don't have no money to go get no meds and stuff. So they come up, take care of me and they're like, oh, we're coming up. And they walk in this garage and there's like, the cats run around and shit. I'm just kind of laid up on the couch. I'm like, uh, we ain't doing this shit. Like, what is wrong with you, bro? I was like, uh, well, I'm sick right now. They're like, well, this is not gonna happen anymore. But I, I was too, I was too proud to be like, to ask them for money and shit, you know? Cause. I just, I didn't wanna go that route.

• 1:00:47Theo Von?

And you were out of school at that point?

• 1:00:49Speaker 01

  I was out of school.

• 1:00:50Theo Von?

Did they know you were out of school or no?

• 1:00:51Speaker 01

Yeah, they knew. And, and this was kinda like.

• 1:00:53Theo Von?

Now, had you graduated or no, you were just taking a break?

• 1:00:54Speaker 01

No, no, they kicked me out. They said, get the fuck out of here.

• 1:00:57Theo Von?

  Force break.

• 1:00:58Speaker 01

Yeah. And so, uh, this is like two or probably three years, probably two thousand and fourteen-ish. Uh, and we're, you know, we're traveling, we're making, we're not making great money, but we're making enough for me to pay rent on a couch in the garage. And so they were like, you know, my dad, he's work construction, he's like, you know, come back, you make pretty good money, couple of years, you know, you can be a superintendent, you'll run a crew like, man, I'm like, ah, you know, that sounds great, but, you know, and I've got buddies that are out in the oil field, you know, making damn good money. And it's just, it was kind of a shitty, shitty time of my life, but I think that kinda, that stuff right there is kinda what helped build me to what I am today, you know? It made me, you know, hard shelled, you know?

• 1:01:41Speaker 01

Um, it kinda makes me appreciate everything that I've got going on now, a little bit more, you know? Having to go through those times, but, uh, yeah, my parents, they were like, this is, this is not cool. So you need to figure it out. Like, if you're gonna do it, you know, do it. So, uh, man, they've been super supportive the entire time, so it's been great.

• 1:02:00Theo Von?

Do you have any songs that are like about your mother or dad or anything like that?

• 1:02:04Speaker 01

Uh, no, surprisingly, I don't. I've got shit ton of songs, so I'll probably write one now. They're gonna be watching, they're like, no, we don't have a fucking song about us.

• 1:02:14Theo Von?

You know what? Yeah, you just never know, cause sometimes it's interesting where people, how they find, it's kinda hard to write a song, like, you know, like, you see a lot of songs that are kinda love ballads, you know?

• 1:02:23Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:02:24Theo Von?

But it's hard to write one that, um, uh, Morgan has that one, what's it like, uh?

• 1:02:29Speaker 01

  Oh, it's a banger.

• 1:02:31Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, I thought you should know. That's a great. And I think there's a lot of people out there that want to have that, have a song like that. I think it also touched on a nerve. It's like, there's not really that son to mother song out there. Or son to father song. There's some of those more probably.

• 1:02:45Speaker 01

It's, that's all a song to write though, you know, like, I feel like those songs are hard to write, like, and, uh,

• 1:02:50Theo Von?

  Oh, for sure.

• 1:02:51Speaker 01

Um, yeah, the Morgan songs, it's a banger. I mean, I've, I've mentioned my parents in songs before, but I just haven't wrote a song about them, you know?

• 1:02:59Theo Von?

Yeah, maybe it'll happen. Look, it's, things happen as they happen. But it's just, yeah, I never really thought that it's kinda tough to create. That's a tough one to kinda make.

• 1:03:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:06Theo Von?

I think that's why that one hit me so hard. I think a Morgan's just was, cause it did, uh, Yeah, you just don't hear that.

• 1:03:12Speaker 01

Oh, it brings home for, I mean, pretty much everybody, you know?

• 1:03:15Theo Von?

Um, you guys toured together some?

• 1:03:16Speaker 01

Yeah, we did, uh, AT and T with them, uh, this year.

• 1:03:19Theo Von?

Bro, that was wild. How cool was that?

• 1:03:21Speaker 01

That's what I told him. I was like, man, I appreciate you having me out. To any of the shows would have been great, but to play Cowboys Stadium, you know, Cowboys is my team, you know, rep Dallas, uh, and so just do, bro, I got out there and like, that's kind of what I was, like, I couldn't even like comprehend what was going on. The whole time I'm just like staring around and looking, trying to take it all in, bro. And it was like, what is going on, man? It was, it was insane. It was something I'll never forget, you know, I can't thank Morgan enough for having us.

• 1:03:50Theo Von?

Yeah, it's so, just to be able to do that, dude, that's so crazy to have that moment to go walk out there.

• 1:03:57Speaker 01

Oh, man. It was just like, you just like kept like, I've never even been on the field before, bro. Like, you just kept looking at like people all the way up. You're like, oh, what?

• 1:04:06Theo Von?

Cause like, you know, I've been kicked out of the stadium. So this was, we had to get a couple of signatures to get me in over there.

• 1:04:12Speaker 01

Dude, I'm in the back. They're like, what the fuck? Who let him back in here?

• 1:04:18Theo Von?

Yeah, bro, that's so great. Has Deers toured now? I'm guessing it's probably expanded. I know that you had an audience that was outside of Texas for sure. I know you have a, have had a strong grassroots audience for a long time and, and even bigger than grassroots. I don't mean to use those terms to sound like it isn't, you know what I'm saying?

• 1:04:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:34Theo Von?

I'm not trying to like, okay, um, but now if you've found and you've, you're touring places that are outside of places you didn't think you would go before. Cause that's when things are like, wow, this is kind of crazy.

• 1:04:44Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure. And, I mean, we've been doing it for, for a while, you know, outside of Texas. I think we got outside of Texas probably seventeen, eighteen, but I mean, even now, whenever we go to, to new places that are sold out, it's kind of like, man, this is crazy, you know, you kind of step back and like, shit, this is, uh, it's pretty wild. But, uh, yeah, it's, I mean, we just got done with Europe. We're over there, did UK.

• 1:05:07Theo Von?

  No way.

• 1:05:08Speaker 01

Yeah, that was, all the shows were sold out, dude.

• 1:05:10Theo Von?

  You'll go to Manchester, London?

• 1:05:12Speaker 01

Manchester, London, uh, Glasgow, uh, all of Leeds, I think Leeds. Then we did, uh, Amsterdam, then we did Germany, bro. It was wild.

• 1:05:26Theo Von?

Have you ever been to Europe before?

• 1:05:28Speaker 01

We did, we did acoustic, an acoustic run over there back in like 2018, so, but we haven't been back since. And so a lot of the fans were like, we're, we're fans of the older music, you know? Like they, they dug on the new stuff, but like they were singing everywhere to all the old shit. So I was like, fuck yeah.

• 1:05:45Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 1:05:46Speaker 01

It was a great time, man.

• 1:05:47Theo Von?

  That's so sick.

• 1:05:48Speaker 01

We got to get back in like the smaller rooms too, so.

• 1:05:51Theo Von?

And you're going to Australia soon too, huh?

• 1:05:53Speaker 01

Yeah, we'll be there in March, I think, in March, so.

• 1:05:56Theo Von?

  It's so.

• 1:05:57Speaker 01

I've, I've never been to Australia. I'm ready.

• 1:05:59Theo Von?

It's so great, dude. We rented bikes one day on the beach, right? You could just rent like these beach cruiser bikes, you know, or just like these motorized bikes, you know? And we rented some and they, um, you can take them out on the beach and literally it just, the most beautiful beach and nobody's out there and you're just, just ripping these bitches, dude.

• 1:06:19Speaker 01

I just heard it's kind of like Texas, honestly, like, like Australia and Texas have like this thing together.

• 1:06:26Speaker 01

Really? Nice. Hell yeah. That's awesome. Shout out Australia.

• 1:06:30Theo Von?

Bro, there's nothing like Australia. Uh, the fuck, they're, and the people and the women are, and everybody's good over there. They're great, dude. They're great and everybody's good over there. And when I was over there, we went and saw, one night we saw, um, Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls at a show. We popped over there and checked that out for a little bit. We went to a, uh, Fred again show over there. DJ, he's a DJ. That was pretty hype.

• 1:06:58Speaker 01

Were you, were you doing shows over there?

• 1:06:59Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:00Speaker 01

Nice. What, what are, where all did you tour?

• 1:07:01Theo Von?

We went to everywhere except for Perth. We have to go back and go to Perth. I might go to Sydney and Perth if, if, if we're able to. Dude, you have to be on my friend Sean and Marley. You have to, are you gonna be in Sydney?

• 1:07:15Speaker 01

  Uh.

• 1:07:16Speaker 02

  Queensland.

• 1:07:17Speaker 01

  Queensland.

• 1:07:19Theo Von?

What is Queensland? Is that the beach?

• 1:07:21Speaker 01

We're trying, we're, we're, we're hoping to get a couple more shows over there. So if we are, we need to get on that.

• 1:07:25Theo Von?

Yeah. You need to go on my buddy Sean and Marley's show, dude.

• 1:07:27Speaker 01

  Let me know.

• 1:07:29Theo Von?

Bring it up, bring it up, bring it up, Sean and Marley, dude.

• 1:07:31Speaker 01

Is it like a, is it like a podcast or what?

• 1:07:33Theo Von?

Uh. No, they do um Sean and Marley, S E A, there they are, right there, Sean and Marley.

• 1:07:39Speaker 01

  Oh shit, yes, fuck yeah.

• 1:07:42Theo Von?

My dogs, dude, you gotta go. And make a Texas dish with them.

• 1:07:45Speaker 01

They're great, yes, hell yeah, do some chicken fried steak with them, bro. Hell yeah.

• 1:07:51Theo Von?

Yeah dude, they are legends, get down with Sean and Marley.

• 1:07:54Speaker 01

I didn't know they were, I didn't know they were in Australia.

• 1:07:56Theo Von?

They were on Hot Wings, no way, bring it up.

• 1:07:59Speaker 03

Hi Darren, Paulie, welcome to the Hot Wings program.

• 1:08:06Theo Von?

  What?

• 1:08:07Speaker 03

  Cheers.

• 1:08:08Speaker 01

  Cheers.

• 1:08:13Theo Von?

You and Marley look a little bit alike, I look like Sean.

• 1:08:18Speaker 01

We should do our own show like this.

• 1:08:20Theo Von?

I look like Sean a little bit.

• 1:08:22Speaker 01

  Theo and Coco.

• 1:08:24Theo Von?

  That guy's good.

• 1:08:27Theo Von?

  I call the fire department.

• 1:08:28Speaker 01

  Dude.

• 1:08:29Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 1:08:30Speaker 01

Have you been, have you been on Hot Ones?

• 1:08:32Theo Von?

Yeah, I went on there years ago.

• 1:08:33Speaker 01

  How's that?

• 1:08:33Theo Von?

It's fun, but I didn't think it was that hot, to be honest with you, yeah.

• 1:08:37Speaker 01

I mean, but we're used to that shit though.

• 1:08:39Theo Von?

Yeah dude, one of them, I'll say this, one of them, it's more like uh, it's not really a sauce, it's more like something you clean the bathroom with. You know what I'm saying, like, hey, y'all are fucking cheating right here. This is fucking, yeah.

• 1:08:50Speaker 01

Well, I saw, like, they saw for like Tapatio and, and shit like that, I was like, what, we put that on eggs in the morning, you know?

• 1:08:58Theo Von?

Yeah, some of it was easy and then some of it, you're like, oh, they using this to take rust off of the uh tire well. You know what I'm saying, like, this shit is fucking next level, dude. What's like the hot, like, what is, what's an area of Texas that you think has the best food? You've been all over there.

• 1:09:13Speaker 01

  Um.

• 1:09:17Speaker 01

Either Austin, San Antonio's got some really good food, man. San Antonio, Mexican food, San Antonio for sure. Austin just has everything, bro, like barbecue, Mexican food, obviously, um.

• 1:09:29Speaker 01

Fort Worth, man, Fort Worth is lights out. El Paso's got really good food.

• 1:09:34Theo Von?

Yeah, what's up with El Paso? It always gets a weird rap. I feel like it's kind of this mystery.

• 1:09:38Speaker 01

Man, it's, uh, I think they want to keep it a mystery, man, because there's so much shit going on. Because it's right there next to Juarez. Juarez is no, no, like, I don't.

• 1:09:46Theo Von?

  You play Juarez?

• 1:09:47Speaker 01

Uh, we haven't, but I mean, it's like they, they tell you not to, to go over there or whatever, but. I had a buddy who went over there like a month ago, a month, two months ago. And he was like, yeah, we just walked across and went and ate and had a couple beers and then came back over. I was like, dude, what? Like, but, uh, yeah, man, El Paso, we, we record out there in Tornillo, just south of El Paso and.

• 1:10:08Theo Von?

  Tornillo, it's called?

• 1:10:09Speaker 01

Tornillo, yeah. And, uh, it's a great time with food out there. Phenomenal. It's really good. Best, best Mexican food you'll probably ever eat.

• 1:10:17Theo Von?

  Outside of El Paso?

• 1:10:18Speaker 01

Outside El Paso, in El Paso.

• 1:10:20Theo Von?

  In El Paso.

• 1:10:20Speaker 01

Yeah. If you're, if you're there, hit me up. I'll, I'll see you some, some.

• 1:10:24Theo Von?

Yeah. What, um, what do you think about now with, with music kind of moving forward? What do you kind of look at? Like, I mean, you guys are touring off of Nine Lives now. And then like, do you start to think about? What do you kind of think about? I know you have a Christmas album that's coming out.

• 1:10:40Speaker 01

Yeah, um, we have it coming out here in a couple days, I guess.

• 1:10:44Theo Von?

Couple of days, I think, December 6th?

• 1:10:45Speaker 01

Yeah, Friday. Um, and then, uh, January, man, just get back in the studio. Um, starting to write, we'll start writing tomorrow for that, actually. Stay here. And then, uh, January, man, just get back in the studio, try and do the same thing, I guess. Um, yeah, just that. Uh, we got a lot of festivals this year coming up. Um, and then, I don't know, a couple of surprises.

• 1:11:08Theo Von?

  Yeah?

• 1:11:09Speaker 01

Yeah. We're excited about it, man. It's, it's, uh, this year was, was wild, man. For us, it was, it was insane. It was. And this year went by so fucking quick. Like, dog.

• 1:11:20Theo Von?

How is that? What is that about?

• 1:11:21Speaker 01

I don't know. Maybe that's another part of getting older, but I just feel like it was New Year's Eve and now we're back at Christmas again, you know?

• 1:11:29Theo Von?

It was so fast, dude. I think people are living fast too because of COVID or whatever. I think people are like trying to live as much as they can. Yeah.

• 1:11:37Speaker 01

Yeah, maybe that's it. I don't know. But it was, I just looked up and I was like, because the tour went by, tour went by. I mean, we were on the road for three months. And it went by super quick, you know, and I was looking forward to Europe and then Europe went by quick and I was like, holy shit. So, I don't know, man. Uh, just getting back out there, putting out some more music, trying to, you know, keep the fans happy.

• 1:12:00Theo Von?

It all happened so fast, huh?

• 1:12:01Speaker 01

  It does, man.

• 1:12:01Theo Von?

It's kind of weird how even like you could be dreaming or hoping about something and it's like the most important thing in the world.

• 1:12:06Speaker 01

  And then it comes.

• 1:12:07Theo Von?

  It comes and it's gone.

• 1:12:08Speaker 01

Comes and it's like, oh man, now what do I got to look forward to, you know?

• 1:12:12Theo Von?

It's weird. It's just kind, yeah, like I'll, I'm always pinning like my, not necessarily my happiness, but like I'll be pinning like a lot of my excitement on one day or one moment.

• 1:12:22Speaker 01

  I do that a lot.

• 1:12:23Theo Von?

And there's such a buildup of it, but then once it's gone, it's just like it never even happened.

• 1:12:27Speaker 01

It's like, damn, that was it. Yeah. Yeah. I feel the other same shit, man. I'll, uh, I'll get so fixated on some shit, you know? And then once it's there, try to, you know, rail this shit for as long as you can and, but it goes by so quick.

• 1:12:42Theo Von?

They gotta get you on game day down there, man.

• 1:12:44Speaker 01

  I know it, man.

• 1:12:45Theo Von?

  That'd be a fun one.

• 1:12:47Speaker 01

And did you do that with, is that with Patton?

• 1:12:48Theo Von?

Yeah, I got to do it like a year ago. It was crazy, dude. They called literally the night before, like 10 o'clock, like you want to come on tomorrow? And I was like, alright, dude. I wouldn't put me on.

• 1:12:57Speaker 01

Dude, we were talking about that at lunch. Like Pat is just like completely.

• 1:13:01Theo Von?

  Oh, that guy's unreal.

• 1:13:03Speaker 01

  He's insane.

• 1:13:04Theo Von?

He's the most, that guy's unreal, dude. There's nobody like Pat McAfee, man. He's like the, uh, male Caitlin Clark of his job.

• 1:13:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, man, he is, uh.

• 1:13:15Theo Von?

Yeah, they should have you down there next year on that Red, on that, uh, either that Red River rivalry?

• 1:13:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:19Theo Von?

Or the, um, the Texas versus A and M.

• 1:13:23Speaker 01

And, you know, did you watch that the other night?

• 1:13:24Theo Von?

  It was great.

• 1:13:25Speaker 01

That game, man. I think that was the, I think it was the first time in what, like 11 or 12 years that they played? And everybody was.

• 1:13:32Theo Von?

  People were stoked.

• 1:13:33Speaker 01

Texas was on cloud 10, man. We were fired up.

• 1:13:37Theo Von?

People were stoked, man. What a great place to be from, dude.

• 1:13:41Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:13:42Theo Von?

Cause Texas, I feel like if, say if there's like, people start to divide off into their own states, that's going to be a state a lot of people are going to want to go live in.

• 1:13:48Speaker 01

For sure. Well, hell, like everybody's starting to move down, you know, you got all these people from California and, I mean, it's kind of like Nashville, you know, everybody's moving to Nashville as well, but. Are you coming, are you coming to Texas?

• 1:14:00Theo Von?

I'm coming to look at a place there in Austin.

• 1:14:01Speaker 01

  Nice, man, fuck y'all.

• 1:14:04Theo Von?

I need to get just, I want to be closer to like a.

• 1:14:08Theo Von?

Yeah, I just, I would like to have, to be able to be in both places, you know? Cause I, I find myself, I, I've had an apartment in Los Angeles for a while for this whole year, I've probably been there.

• 1:14:17Speaker 01

Are you still got a place back in LA?

• 1:14:18Theo Von?

But three weeks I've been there, whole year.

• 1:14:21Speaker 01

It's a, uh, yeah, I think being able to bounce back and forth from here and there would be dope.

• 1:14:26Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:27Speaker 01

And you've been awesome, right, man? It's, it's got everything, man, like it's, it's badass.

• 1:14:32Theo Von?

It's fun, you can still get mugged a little, I like that.

• 1:14:35Speaker 01

Still, yeah, still gotta hold on to your wallet.

• 1:14:37Theo Von?

Oh yeah, there ain't no crime, the food ain't that good, you gotta have good, you gotta have crime to have food.

• 1:14:42Speaker 01

  It's too white for me.

• 1:14:43Theo Von?

  Yeah, dude.

• 1:14:46Theo Von?

If you don't have some good crime, um, yeah, we're gonna do, what did you, uh, Kim had asked me about doing the inch, the 12 days of Christmas for that thing. What were we supposed to do?

• 1:14:55Speaker 01

Oh yeah, no, man, I, no, yeah, I was, I was gonna have you read it, but I was, I should have thought about it like two or three months.

• 1:15:01Theo Von?

We could do it now, would it even be able to record or no?

• 1:15:02Speaker 01

  No, no, we're good.

• 1:15:03Theo Von?

I didn't know if I'd go to a studio or something, I was just kinda overwhelmed.

• 1:15:06Speaker 01

No, I, I hit him up and I was like, man, this is kinda last notice, like.

• 1:15:11Theo Von?

If you do one next year, I'll be happy to do it.

• 1:15:12Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure, we'll, uh, we'll get together also, man.

• 1:15:15Theo Von?

Cause I wanted to find a way to make it funny, but I was just like, I'm fucking burnt out.

• 1:15:18Speaker 01

That's what I told, I was like, man, he was like, well, what's kinda like the overall deal? I was like, just tell him to be himself, you know? I just wanted you to read, we got a, you know Ben Burgess? Ben Burgess?

• 1:15:27Theo Von?

  Oh yeah, the songwriter?

• 1:15:28Speaker 01

We got Ben to do it, yeah, and Ben, you know, Ben.

• 1:15:31Theo Von?

Bring him up, bring up a picture of him.

• 1:15:32Speaker 01

Ben is, uh, he's his own person, bro, and he, he went in there and did his, did his, uh, like Texas draw and shit on it.

• 1:15:39Theo Von?

Dude, he's a very famous songwriter, isn't he?

• 1:15:41Speaker 01

  He's a bad cat, man.

• 1:15:43Theo Von?

He's like the greatest one, isn't he?

• 1:15:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, I love old Burgess.

• 1:15:46Theo Von?

Wow, I met him years ago, um.

• 1:15:50Theo Von?

With Charles Kelly, I think at some event that they had Josh Kelly years ago.

• 1:15:56Speaker 01

Yeah, he's a bad dude, man.

• 1:15:57Theo Von?

  Yeah, he's the guy.

• 1:15:59Speaker 01

Well, he uh, he got in there and he read it like he was reading it to his grandchildren or some shit, dude. Sounds good.

• 1:16:05Theo Von?

  He did?

• 1:16:05Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's cool.

• 1:16:06Theo Von?

Well, if you guys need somebody next year, man, I was gonna say otherwise, we could just record it right here. I just didn't, I think, know what to do.

• 1:16:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, I know.

• 1:16:13Theo Von?

  Um.

• 1:16:14Speaker 01

  All good.

• 1:16:14Theo Von?

Yeah, what do you do, yeah, with the Christmas album? So what is it? It's just like, I heard some of the ones from last year. I saw like you guys had a cool animation that was online, like you in the back of a Santa sleigh and stuff.

• 1:16:23Speaker 01

It's just like, just some like reimagined songs, like we just basically like covering them up and just making them ours, so.

• 1:16:30Theo Von?

And like chestnuts roasting on like a, on a bottle of Fireball or something?

• 1:16:35Speaker 01

Fucking barbecue pit or some shit.

• 1:16:36Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:16:37Speaker 01

We uh, I don't know, it kinda gives us something to do at the end of the year. Cause we're not, usually not in the studio, so just kinda gives us reason to, and it's uh, you know, it's something that people can go back to every single Christmas, so, I don't know.

• 1:16:51Theo Von?

Do you, um, when you start thinking about, uh, like what are things you feel like are missing from your own life? Do you feel?

• 1:16:59Speaker 01

  Um.

• 1:17:00Theo Von?

  Is that a weird question?

• 1:17:02Speaker 01

I don't know, I've been getting a lot of those today, very intimate questions. Uh, I don't know, man, um.

• 1:17:09Theo Von?

I mean, you just hit such a neat place in your career.

• 1:17:11Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure. Um, I don't think it's anything career wise, um.

• 1:17:18Speaker 01

I don't know, it's just always go, go, go and, uh, I don't know, you know, I think not having the maybe the alone time or whatever it is, you know, just to kinda reset. I was with Bobby and them earlier and we were talking about it and that was kinda one of the things I didn't want is just, I like, I like being, like I'm a loner, you know, and, cause I'm always surrounded around people and stuff, but I like to have the time to myself just to kinda relax and reset and do all that shit, so, uh. I don't know, I don't know what is missing.

• 1:17:51Speaker 01

  Life's good, man. Life's good.

• 1:17:53Theo Von?

Yeah, and that's a good point, too. Sometimes it doesn't have to be. Sometimes I'll like, I feel like I always need to have an answer for that question. I don't even realize that till just now.

• 1:18:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:18:01Theo Von?

And then I'm kind of setting myself up for failure in a little bit of a way because I'm always thinking that there's something missing.

• 1:18:06Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah, that could be, that could be a problem. But I mean, uh, but sometimes when, when life is as good as you think it is, maybe it's not, you know, so. I don't know.

• 1:18:16Theo Von?

Do you, I, it must be inspiring to see your career evolve, continue to evolve, right? And grow, your fanbase continue to grow because then you start thinking, well, what can I do? You know, like, not that you don't think that before, but you're like, okay, how can I challenge myself now? How can I? What else could I maybe do?

• 1:18:34Speaker 01

I've got, I've got here, you know, where else could I go? Or what else could I do? Yeah.

• 1:18:38Theo Von?

That's kind of interesting, you know, because you don't know what this looks like until you're, till you're standing there, you know?

• 1:18:43Speaker 01

Well, I'll find myself like getting into things that, you know, just that I probably would never have got into and be like, well, maybe that would be a cool, cool, like, I say acting or something, you know, something like that. I think that would be really cool to get into.

• 1:18:56Theo Von?

And the bar owner should be got a new bar right now.

• 1:18:58Speaker 01

Yeah, we've been doing the, the bar deal and.

• 1:19:00Theo Von?

  Riot, uh.

• 1:19:01Speaker 01

Riot Room. Yeah. Yeah, you need to come down to Fort Worth, man.

• 1:19:04Theo Von?

Yeah, dude. Whenever we're touring through there, I think if we don't go through Dallas, we'll have to make it happen.

• 1:19:09Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:19:10Theo Von?

And what kind of joint is it in there? They got billiards or what is it?

• 1:19:14Speaker 01

It's a, it's kind of like a honky tonk during the day with food and then by nine o'clock it turns to a club, man. It's like a Texas club, I guess, like a cowboy club. I don't know how to explain it. We got bottle, bottle store. There you go. Yeah.

• 1:19:30Speaker 01

  It's a, it's a riot. It's a good time.

• 1:19:32Theo Von?

  Gang, dude, that's your place?

• 1:19:34Speaker 01

  Yeah, bro.

• 1:19:35Theo Von?

  Bro, congratulations, man.

• 1:19:38Speaker 01

We, uh, we're, we just opened up a second location or about to in Houston. Hopefully getting it up by February.

• 1:19:45Theo Von?

See, that's what I'm missing about party. You can open up something like that. Like I'd have to open a place where people kind of cry about how they feel every now and then.

• 1:19:54Speaker 01

That's what I say whenever I open it up. I was like, I just want a place I can go fucking party and not have to worry about going to jail. Like, nobody can kick me out of the motherfucker.

• 1:20:04Theo Von?

Except for you. You know, texting yourself.

• 1:20:07Speaker 01

Sometimes I need to kick myself out of there, bro. You just see me dragging myself out, bro.

• 1:20:13Theo Von?

Fucking Riot Room. That's so cool, dude. Just to have your own bar. Everybody dreams of that, you know? People dream of that in their lives, you know?

• 1:20:21Speaker 01

Yeah, it's been a lot of fun, man.

• 1:20:23Theo Von?

You guys are opening up a new one?

• 1:20:24Speaker 01

Yeah, down in Houston. It'll open, open for February. Uh, but it's almost finished up. It's been going good, man. It's, uh, you know, I never thought, I never can like, thought that I'd have a, a bar or whatever, but, um, got in with the right people and just kind of, I don't know. It's been, it's been cool.

• 1:20:43Theo Von?

Yeah. Especially in Texas, especially in your space, you know?

• 1:20:47Speaker 01

Yeah, we didn't, uh, we had talked about putting in one here in Nashville and I was like, uh, I'm not stepping on nobody's toes, you know? It's not, it's not my domain. I'm, uh, I'm gonna stick to what I know down there in Texas.

• 1:20:59Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah, you gotta be careful. I think about that sometimes too, like about getting involved in certain stuff. You don't want to act like it's your place just because you're there.

• 1:21:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:21:08Theo Von?

You know, if you're not from there, I feel like. That's how I feel sometimes.

• 1:21:11Speaker 01

I seen, uh, Jelly Roll, is he putting in one? Is he?

• 1:21:14Theo Von?

Oh yeah, that's what I did here. Jelly Roll putting in a bar? Let's look, pull it up.

• 1:21:20Speaker 01

Jelly, Laney got hers, uh, Morgan. Oh yeah, I haven't been to Morgan's yet.

• 1:21:26Theo Von?

  I haven't been to Morgan's either.

• 1:21:28Speaker 01

  We were at, uh,

• 1:21:29Theo Von?

  Goodnight National. Story building. God.

• 1:21:32Speaker 01

I feel like they're, they're not just like, they're just like saying how many, how many stories they can go up.

• 1:21:36Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:37Speaker 01

Shout out Jelly, man. That's awesome.

• 1:21:38Theo Von?

Bar's marquee sign will be yellow and black, including a skull wearing a crown of Nashville skyline. Oh, that's kind of cool, man. Oh yeah, that's like his, uh, emblem.

• 1:21:47Speaker 01

Yeah, shout out Jelly. That's awesome, man.

• 1:21:49Theo Von?

It is cool, dude. What a guy.

• 1:21:52Speaker 01

Dude, your impression of Jelly, whenever he is, is you and, and.

• 1:21:59Speaker 01

If you've ever been, if you've ever fallen asleep in a fucking UPS van. If you were raised in the back of an Oscar Mayer wedding vehicle.

• 1:22:10Theo Von?

If you've ever gotten head lice from, from bad head. If you've ever popped a pimple on the back of a long haul trucker. If you've ever given head in the front seat of a Peterbilt.

• 1:22:24Theo Von?

If you've ever had your legs fall asleep on the shitter of a Love's gas station toilet.

• 1:22:32Theo Von?

You could win an Emmy. Motherfucker's like, what is happening?

• 1:22:36Speaker 01

Dude, by the way, Jelly, Jelly, Jelly gives the best hugs in the world, bro. Every time he sees you, like, he just, like, picks you up, like, Jelly, man, this is. Oh, man, yeah, if you're having a shitty day, get a hug from Jelly Roll, bro, turns that motherfucker right around.

• 1:22:50Theo Von?

He, they should have a hug center. They should have, that should be a machine.

• 1:22:55Speaker 01

That's what we need to tell them. Hey, instead of all the other good that you're doing around the world, you need a hug station, bro.

• 1:23:00Theo Von?

  Yep, a hug station.

• 1:23:01Speaker 01

Give, give out free hugs, bro. Oh, man.

• 1:23:05Theo Von?

If you've ever been hugged. It's one dollar hugs, dude. Jelly's one dollar hug, dude. Or you can pay two dollars and get a little bit more of a hug. You know what I'm saying? And it's heated. The second hug is heated, dude. God damn, brother.

• 1:23:19Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 1:23:20Theo Von?

Yeah, there's something about Jelly, he just is, um, there's something about him, he's just like a conduit, you know? For, I feel like for love, really. The guy just.

• 1:23:31Speaker 01

It's like his whole aura, his whole presence, everything about him is just, man. It'll, yeah, it'll turn a bad day around for sure.

• 1:23:39Theo Von?

It really will. He really is grateful, man. He's grateful. He's fun to watch.

• 1:23:42Speaker 01

His story's been cool, man. He's, he's got a really cool story.

• 1:23:47Theo Von?

Yeah, it's great, dude. Um, and, yeah, you guys are gonna be touring for how long, most of next year or what?

• 1:23:52Speaker 01

Uh, yeah, we're doing a bunch of, like, festivals and stuff and then, uh, hopefully getting a tour in towards the end of the year, maybe, um, planning on a new record, so. If we get that out, get a new tour going, all the goods.

• 1:24:07Theo Von?

Any new songwriters you wanna work with or anything like that? Or what's that look like? I knew, one night I called you and Ernest were working together sometime.

• 1:24:12Speaker 01

Me and Ernest were out in, I think we were out in El Paso whenever you.

• 1:24:14Theo Von?

Y'all were fucking, he said he saw an alien or something. He could have been, could have been high, could have been high.

• 1:24:18Speaker 01

Oh, yeah, there's no telling what, don't fucking pay out anything else out there, bro. Uh, but, uh, yeah, man, I mean, we, uh, I've, I've started co-railing with a lot of people, man, it's, and this last record was the first time that I'd done it, so, uh, yeah, man, I think it's kinda, just kinda opened to brand new ideas and stuff, man, just trying to. You know, do, do what's best for us.

• 1:24:41Theo Von?

Has it been hard for you to evolve? Like, is that a tough thing to, to, to change to do as an artist to like, um, think, okay, I'm gonna co-write or I'm not, or is that, do you like have a certain like kind of rules for yourself and then those change or do you not have any rules for yourself?

• 1:24:53Speaker 01

It was at first to start with the co-rides, cause I've wrote, you know, my first four records were completely just me. And then, uh, so to get into co-writing was kind of a hard ordeal. And then now I've, I've accepted a lot more. I feel like it's, uh, it's easier on me, especially with the headspace I'm, I'm in and so much that's going on and, uh, it helps to have other people's ideas, you know, outside, uh, outside looking in. So, um, yeah, man, it's, it's been a lot of fun. Like I said, with Gabe Simon and all those, all those badass, all these badass artists around here, man.

I met him with Dermot Kennedy. I think, bring a picture of him up. I think they were writing together.

• 1:25:33Speaker 01

  Probably.

• 1:25:35Theo Von?

  Gabe Simon.

• 1:25:36Speaker 01

He worked with, uh, Noah, Noah Khan and, uh, a couple other. Oh, Gabe.

• 1:25:43Theo Von?

  I don't think that's him. All right.

• 1:25:44Speaker 01

  No, it's Gabe.

• 1:25:46Theo Von?

No, no, that's him. Sorry, sorry. That is Gabe. That is another guy that I met, but I would like to meet him sometime.

• 1:25:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:25:54Theo Von?

Small world. I look forward to meeting Gabe Simon.

• 1:25:56Speaker 01

  He's a great dude, man.

• 1:25:56Theo Von?

Um, no, this, okay. Now I feel like, but that's okay. It was a different Gabe that I believe played with Dermot Kennedy over there. We went to the, uh,

• 1:26:06Theo Von?

  Bluebird over there.

• 1:26:07Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:26:08Theo Von?

And watched him play. Yeah. Well, I just think that's interesting because yeah, it's like, I always want to do things on my own, right?

• 1:26:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:26:14Theo Von?

And I was like, oh, I'll do it on my own. But then things kind of change. You're like, I can't do it all on my own.

• 1:26:17Speaker 01

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:26:18Theo Von?

And so then I'm like, now I have to evolve a little bit.

• 1:26:20Speaker 01

Yeah, for sure. I think, uh, and I've always been like, I hate to ask people for help on anything. Like, that's just how I'm wired. But sometimes, you know, I mean, it, uh, uh, you kind of got to push your pride aside and say, hell with it. So.

• 1:26:34Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah. And then that's the times when you really kind of things, you get better, you know?

• 1:26:39Speaker 01

  Honestly, yeah.

• 1:26:39Theo Von?

Yeah. Usually when I end up including other people and then I'm not doing anything alone, I think. That's a thing that's, that's a bummer. Sometimes I think about like, It's not like, I think sometimes I would like to get married, you know, or something. I said that, but I think it's because otherwise you do stuff and you don't have anybody to tell about.

• 1:26:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:26:57Theo Von?

You're like, oh, I just, this was fun, but it was by myself. And you're like, well, shit, dude. And then your wife, one day your wife or whatever is gonna be like, shut up. I wasn't there.

• 1:27:07Speaker 01

Please stop telling me about this shit.

• 1:27:08Theo Von?

Yeah. I wasn't there, dude. Um, I think that's good, man. I think we've had a nice chat.

• 1:27:15Speaker 01

  Hell, yeah, that was awesome.

• 1:27:16Theo Von?

  Co, congratulations, dude.

• 1:27:18Speaker 01

  Appreciate it, man.

• 1:27:19Theo Von?

Yeah, we look forward to just hearing more music and just watching your journey, man. Yeah, it's fucking tough to grow up, dude. Don't do all, don't, don't do it all overnight, dude.

• 1:27:26Speaker 01

Yeah, not all overnight. Yeah, we'll, uh, we'll just keep easing into it.

• 1:27:30Theo Von?

Okay. Hey, man, new Christmas, Christmas album out now and his album Nine Lives. Thanks again, Co. Have a good one, man.

• 1:27:36Speaker 01

  Appreciate it, man.

• 1:27:36Theo Von?

  Yeah, Merry Christmas.
