Thanks for having me, thanks for having me.

Thanks for coming, buddy, I appreciate ya.

• 2:07Speaker 03

  Yeah, man, I'm pumped.

• 2:08H. Foley?

You're like a southern closer, you got the hat pulled down, coming out of the bullpen.

• 2:11Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 2:12H. Foley?

  I love it.

• 2:13Speaker 03

Some people that don't know me are gonna be like, looks like Blake Shelton got stung by bees.

• 2:17H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 2:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:19H. Foley?

Man, all those country guys, there was a wave of them. They were all good looking as shit.

• 2:24Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 2:24Speaker 01

  The rugged masculinity.

• 2:26H. Foley?

The mid 2000s, they were all just gorgeous.

• 2:29Speaker 03

It does. A cowboy hat does a lot for you, though.

• 2:32Speaker 01

Does a lot for you, not for me.

• 2:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 2:34Speaker 01

I look, uh, not so great in them. I've tried. If I could pull it off, I would.

• 2:37H. Foley?

  A cowboy hat?

• 2:38Speaker 01

Yeah. There's also something like, I can't be walking around the streets of New York in a fucking cowboy hat.

• 2:44Speaker 03

  No, none of us can.

• 2:45Speaker 01

And Jordans, you know what I mean? It's a tough look.

• 2:47H. Foley?

Howdy, sir. Let me get chicken over rice, please. Try your ethnic delicacies. Derek, give us the backstory. Where are you from?

• 2:55Speaker 01

  Alabama boy.

• 2:56H. Foley?

  Alabama?

• 2:57Speaker 03

That's right. Born, born in Charleston, West Virginia, raised in Alabama. I'm a very unique breed.

• 3:03Speaker 01

Jesus Christ. Listen, I thought it could've get worse.

• 3:06Speaker 03

You don't, you don't see that mix very often.

• 3:09H. Foley?

  Six ways of southern.

• 3:10Speaker 03

  Yeah, man.

• 3:11H. Foley?

How many Charleston's are there, by the way? Jesus Christ.

• 3:14Speaker 03

I know. There's, I mean, there's two that we mainly talk about, and it's never the one that I was born.

• 3:18Speaker 01

Yeah, I was gonna say, I've never heard of Charleston, uh, West Virginia.

• 3:20Speaker 03

Nobody ever assumes that, but yeah.

• 3:22Speaker 01

What was the ju- why jump for, and what age was West Virginia to Alabama?

• 3:26Speaker 03

I moved to Alabama when I was nine years old, and my dad got a job, uh, right outside of Huntsville, Alabama. And, uh, at the time, you know, felt like a real lateral move.

• 3:38Speaker 03

As I got older, I have to say, I think I made, it was a pretty good decision. Huntsville has turned out to be a, it was a, I'm from Harvest, right outside of Huntsville. I mean, Harvest sounds like a made up place. I get that. It's a little too on the nose. It's like being from white people, Utah.

• 3:53H. Foley?

  Apple cider, Alabama.

• 3:54Speaker 03

Yeah, I'm from Tornado, Oklahoma. Um, but yeah, so a little town right outside of Huntsville. It was a great area to grow up in. It was, uh, it was great.

• 4:03Speaker 01

And what did your dad do?

• 4:04Speaker 03

Um, he worked for my grandfather. They had a family owned business.

• 4:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 4:08Speaker 03

For probably the first 10 years that, uh, uh, lived there and then, and then that went under and then he had to start a landscaping business. And so, yeah.

• 4:16Speaker 01

  They always go under.

• 4:17Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, it always, the dream always sinks.

• 4:20Speaker 01

They can't, they can get there, they can't maintain it.

• 4:21Speaker 03

No, no, I had about, I had about 10 years where, I mean, we were riding the heater.

• 4:26Speaker 01

Yeah, us too. Yeah, same, same.

• 4:28Speaker 03

That's the only reason I know anything about hibachi is that 10 years.

• 4:32H. Foley?

Have you been to his Benny Hana?

• 4:33Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 4:34H. Foley?

Wait, okay, so your grandfather, was your grandfather from in West Virginia and they moved out and did the business?

• 4:41Speaker 03

Yep, they moved down to Huntsville and he was running it himself and so he called my dad, who my dad was running a bar in Charleston at the time.

• 4:47H. Foley?

  He was running a bar?

• 4:48Speaker 03

Yeah, it was called Number Eight down on Capitol Street.

• 4:51Speaker 01

It's a great bar name, did the number eight?

• 4:53Speaker 03

Underground, just a couple pinball machines and some stools, but yeah, he ran that forever and then he went into the family business.

• 5:01H. Foley?

  Which was?

• 5:02Speaker 03

With my grandfather. It was electrical contacts. It was very unique. They would take silver and put it on the copper and they would sell it to like companies for transformers and different things. A lot of just standing up and welding and talk radio. He made great money doing it. But yeah, and then once that went under, we had to pivot to the landscaping company, which was a nightmare.

• 5:23Speaker 01

Does not seem like a lateral move.

• 5:24Speaker 03

You do not want to be the son of a landscaping company.

• 5:26H. Foley?

Had they ever done that, your dad ever done that before?

• 5:29Speaker 03

  No, no.

• 5:29H. Foley?

What year is this? Is this when landscaping got hot?

• 5:32Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, no, this is like, this is when landscaping really took off. I would say probably 20 years ago.

• 5:37H. Foley?

  Alright, yeah.

• 5:37Speaker 03

I mean, everybody, once, you know, I mean, everybody had something in the back of their lawnmower, they were pulling weed eaters.

• 5:43Speaker 01

  A Toro?

• 5:44Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, he made killer money doing it and I was of no help.

• 5:48Speaker 01

  Lot of cash too.

• 5:49Speaker 03

My other brother, Will, he helps out with it.

• 5:51Speaker 01

  Still?

• 5:51Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, still, still. Will still helps with it, coaches baseball, helps my dad out with the company, but there's no way. I mean, I did it on and off for several years, but I'm not laying any sod.

• 6:03H. Foley?

So what you, once you moved out there and became 16, 17, you were automatically on the crew, I would have said.

• 6:09Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you start, I mean, well, actually, let's get the timeline right. This probably started happening when I was about 18, the landscaping stuff. So I was able to get out. I went to Jacksonville State University, which is a tiny little school in Alabama. It's about two hours south of Huntsville where I grew up. I went there for seven years.

• 6:28Speaker 01

Dude, southern guys go to schools you've never heard of. Every single one of them.

• 6:32H. Foley?

Did you stay at home and go to school or did you live there?

• 6:34Speaker 03

Oh, no, no, no. I lived in Jacksonville. I had the absolute time of my life. I mean, there was only like two bars there, seven restaurants, a school. At the time, probably 7,000 people and I truly had the time and there was all kinds of, I mean, uh, country singer Riley Green, me, Sam Hunt, Drake White, we were all, those are all country singers you probably don't know, but we were all there at the same time.

• 6:56H. Foley?

  Like a super group.

• 6:57Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. Sam was playing at the local bar. Riley went to school there and was playing. And, uh, yeah, it was a wild, it was, it was a great time, man.

• 7:04Speaker 01

That's not bad. What'd you go to school for?

• 7:06Speaker 03

Uh, well, several things. Uh, we, we landed on recreation because I'd touched everyone.

• 7:12H. Foley?

  What the fuck is that?

• 7:13Speaker 03

Well, my, my final was canoeing and dodgeball and that's not a joke. Like, we would learn, we, we like, we, we would get freeze tagged for the class and you would learn the ethics of freeze tag of like how to treat people and keep, keep people's boundaries safe.

• 7:27H. Foley?

  But this is in college?

• 7:28Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. But you know, looking back, I've told my friends this, looking back, I've always wondered if I was in regular classes.

• 7:34Speaker 01

No, I don't think you were, dude. No way. I don't want to say anything.

• 7:37Speaker 03

They just duped me. They go, no, no, this is a regular degree and you're just like everybody else.

• 7:42H. Foley?

  Freeze tag, dude?

• 7:43Speaker 03

Roll the ball. Roll the ball. Yeah.

• 7:45Speaker 01

  That's wild.

• 7:46Speaker 03

Yeah. Community rec is, uh, is what it was.

• 7:48H. Foley?

Couldn't get into the horseshoe class.

• 7:50Speaker 01

What, what would you do with that? Like go work at a community center or like?

• 7:53Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You would. You know, when you walk into a community center and you see the guy that's like yelling at everybody in the middle of the gym?

• 7:59Speaker 01

  That would be you.

• 8:00Speaker 03

You're not gonna believe this, but he went to school for that. Um.

• 8:02H. Foley?

You know what? When you put it like that, it's a pretty sweet gig.

• 8:06Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's a pretty sweet gig. I mean, you got kids making more money than you, I believe. Uh, but yeah, I mean, there's no way that you're just balling out as a, you know.

• 8:15Speaker 01

  Tough living.

• 8:16Speaker 03

No, no, I'm not trying to, uh, you, community directors, you are the heartbeat. I love y'all, but you're catching a stray here.

• 8:21H. Foley?

You know what's crazy though? They are becoming bigger and bigger. In the area where we grew up outside of Philly, there's, there's a bunch of huge community centers that are like YMCA's, but they're done by the, by the township.

• 8:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 8:34H. Foley?

  They're pretty sharp.

• 8:35Speaker 03

  Yeah, it's nice.

• 8:36Speaker 01

I smell a second gig for you.

• 8:37Speaker 03

I smell a second gig for you.

• 8:39Speaker 01

  I smell a retirement plan.

• 8:40H. Foley?

Somebody get me an application to, uh, Jacksonville Christian University College.

• 8:47H. Foley?

  What was the college mascot?

• 8:48Speaker 03

  Uh, Gamecocks.

• 8:50H. Foley?

  Gamecocks.

• 8:50Speaker 01

Not bad. What was the high school mascot?

• 8:52Speaker 03

Uh, unbelievable. It was the Senators.

• 8:54Speaker 01

  The Senators?

• 8:56H. Foley?

  Pretty classy.

• 8:57Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, what's your mascot? We had a guy in a suit running around. The other team's like, "What are you gonna do, pass a pill?" Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, classy until you have a pep rally.

• 9:07Speaker 01

  He's filibustering and shit.

• 9:09Speaker 03

And a guy in a suit comes out, you're supposed to get fired up.

• 9:11H. Foley?

I never thought about it like that. I thought it was supposed to be like a, like a Roman senator.

• 9:14Speaker 01

Like the old, like, the, yeah.

• 9:15Speaker 03

No, no, ours is, John Sparkman is who the school's named after, and he was a state senator.

• 9:20Speaker 01

A state senator at that? Not even a, not even, not even a US?

• 9:24H. Foley?

Give it up for the Comptrollers, everybody.

• 9:26Speaker 01

  That's wild.

• 9:27H. Foley?

Coming out with a hell of a squad.

• 9:28Speaker 03

We gotta say, he's had to be a US senator. He had to be. Just for the sake of my school. There's no way.

• 9:35Speaker 01

  That's brutal, dude.

• 9:36Speaker 03

My school's named after a county commissioner.

• 9:42Speaker 03

It's gotta be a US senator.

• 9:45Speaker 01

He was kicked out of office after six months.

• 9:47H. Foley?

Oh, for sure. He got caught up.

• 9:50Speaker 01

Damn. Okay, all right. I mean, we're off to the races already. Um, you know, what?

• 9:56H. Foley?

Was it, was it just you and your brother?

• 9:58Speaker 03

Uh, no, I have a sister as well.

• 9:59H. Foley?

  You have a sister?

• 10:00Speaker 03

I'm the oldest by a long shot.

• 10:02H. Foley?

  And what'd your mom do?

• 10:03Speaker 01

Hold on. What's, how long of a shot?

• 10:04Speaker 03

  Uh, 12 and 16 years.

• 10:06Speaker 01

Yeah, that's a long shot. Okay, all right.

• 10:08Speaker 03

  I, I'm, I was an only-

• 10:10Speaker 01

  Same, all the same parents?

• 10:11Speaker 03

  Uh, no, different parents.

• 10:12Speaker 01

  Picked up on that.

• 10:12Speaker 03

No, yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't know my, don't know my dad.

• 10:15Speaker 01

  You don't know your dad.

• 10:16H. Foley?

What do you mean? You just said you were working with him.

• 10:18Speaker 03

Yeah, that's my stepdad. Yeah, you'd know if we, if you, he's 5'6" with black hair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You'd go, "Hey, man."

• 10:25H. Foley?

  Little Asian guy.

• 10:25Speaker 03

This guy's sleeping with your mother.

• 10:29H. Foley?

I like how you didn't open with that. All right, hold on a second here. So... Okay. All right, so your mom has you.

• 10:38Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, 18 years old.

• 10:40H. Foley?

Your mom has you at 18?

• 10:41Speaker 01

  West Virginia.

• 10:41Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 10:42H. Foley?

  Charleston, West Virginia.

• 10:43Speaker 01

I like how you jumped to college real fucking quick.

• 10:46Speaker 03

Well, I was trying to get the hell out of there. I was trying to get out of there. I go, I gotta get to school. I gotta get to school.

• 10:52Speaker 01

I gotta tell him I graduated.

• 10:53Speaker 03

They can't realize how this started.

• 10:55H. Foley?

Yeah, but then you say you went to school for darts. It's like, where'd you think you were getting to, man? Just be honest with us.

• 11:02Speaker 01

That's the best thing he's got going. The seven-year degree.

• 11:05Speaker 03

That's it. Well, the degree part would have been great.

• 11:07Speaker 01

  You don't have the degree?

• 11:08Speaker 03

No, no, no. I just went forever and got it. Well, I started running a bar, and then once I started running a bar, I go, why do you need a degree if you're the coolest guy that's ever lived?

• 11:18H. Foley?

I don't want you fellas to think less of me. I apologize.

• 11:21Speaker 01

  All right.

• 11:21H. Foley?

All right, so your mom has you at 18. You don't know your dad.

• 11:25Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 11:27Speaker 01

He summed that up pretty harshly.

• 11:28Speaker 03

People are gonna chime in. That sounds like the end of the episode. They go, boy.

• 11:34Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 11:35H. Foley?

All right, man. All right, and when did she meet your stepdad?

• 11:38Speaker 03

Um, when I was probably six.

• 11:40H. Foley?

Okay, so at six. All right, so then they start a family.

• 11:43Speaker 03

  Yep, yep.

• 11:44H. Foley?

Right? Well, no, they hadn't, because you said 12 years.

• 11:46Speaker 03

And then we moved to Alabama. Still no, still just us three.

• 11:50H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 11:50Speaker 01

Where they get married? They got married in Alabama?

• 11:52Speaker 03

They got married in Alabama, then they started the family. Uh, yeah, I was 12 when Will was born, 16 when Sarah was born. So me and Sarah didn't even really share a house.

• 12:02Speaker 01

I got a similar vibe, too, yeah.

• 12:04H. Foley?

Will and Sarah, they're two good names. I like that.

• 12:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:06H. Foley?

Were you at that wedding? Your mother, your stepdad?

• 12:09Speaker 03

No, they didn't tell me that they were getting married. They said they were going to the Smoky Mountains to hang out for the weekend, and then when they came back, my dad was allowed to spank me. You know, it happened fast.

• 12:18Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 12:19Speaker 03

  You know? Yeah.

• 12:22Speaker 01

Well, I got good news and bad news, Derek.

• 12:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:24Speaker 01

Good news is I'm your dad. Bad news is get on my leg.

• 12:27H. Foley?

Probably came back all fired up.

• 12:30Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 12:30H. Foley?

Holy shit, they didn't tell ya.

• 12:32Speaker 01

How was the relationship with the stepdad? Were you ingratiated? Do you call him dad?

• 12:36Speaker 03

Yeah, uh, no, call him Bill. But I talk about him on stage a lot. It, it, he was great, man. He was a great provider, had a great relationship with my mother. Me and him, it was kinda touch and go because we're so different.

• 12:46Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 12:47Speaker 03

  I mean, I'm a real wild-

• 12:47Speaker 01

  That's always what it is.

• 12:48Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I'm a real wild card. He's a very reserved, conservative guy, and I've always been a lot for him, but like, comes to like, just like man to man and a good dude, he's, he's top notch.

• 12:58H. Foley?

  He's rock solid.

• 12:59Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, his sense of humor isn't like a shining part of his-

• 13:02Speaker 01

I, I had the same, I had the same sitch going on for a long time.

• 13:05H. Foley?

Guy can't take a joke, I don't know what to tell ya.

• 13:08Speaker 03

  I mean, that's, yeah, that's, that's it. That, that's it. He's, he sighs a lot.

• 13:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, okay.

• 13:14H. Foley?

Let me ask you this. Were you upset? So you were, so you were, how old when they got married?

• 13:19Speaker 03

Um, I was probably, I was probably ten.

• 13:22H. Foley?

Okay. When they got back and they were like, we got married, were you like, what the hell? You didn't invite me to the wedding?

• 13:28Speaker 03

No, no, never felt any type of way. I was glad, I liked the-

• 13:31H. Foley?

  Did you get them gifts?

• 13:32Speaker 03

No, no. I, I, I think I appreciated the stability and just having somebody we could count on, and my mom, it all felt like it was coming together because I can remember-

• 13:42H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 13:42Speaker 03

Growing up with just me and my mom, like, we lived in a very, you know, rundown place, and like, we were eating Taco Bell every night, so-

• 13:50H. Foley?

  I like that.

• 13:50Speaker 03

  I could see the tides-

• 13:51Speaker 01

  Always doing that now.

• 13:52Speaker 03

I could see the tides turning.

• 13:53H. Foley?

  I gotcha.

• 13:54Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 13:55H. Foley?

  Okay, I respect that.

• 13:56Speaker 01

And what's, what's the, what's the home situ- what kinda house she in? Is it a townhouse, a condo, trailer?

• 14:01Speaker 03

When we were first in, when we were first in Alabama, it was a townhouse. When they got married, we moved in to a home that's like on fifteen acres.

• 14:08Speaker 01

  Oh, nice.

• 14:09Speaker 03

Yeah, we did that thing where you buy everything, like, the people that lived there before retired and moved to Florida, they were in their seventies. They left us, like, when we moved-

• 14:17Speaker 01

  You got the couch.

• 14:17Speaker 03

We got, we got the dog, we got the, the lawnmower, every tool that he had, everything in the kitchen, they just left the home and all their belongings.

• 14:27H. Foley?

  This is the fifteen acres.

• 14:28Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's a name for it. They left it-

• 14:30Speaker 01

Garbage, is what it's called. Yeah, I think, I think we got to the bottom of it.

• 14:33Speaker 03

We were gonna have a yard sale, but she offered us a good number.

• 14:36Speaker 01

He gave us twelve hundred. We can have the dog.

• 14:39H. Foley?

  What kinda dog was it?

• 14:40Speaker 03

  It was a Weimaraner.

• 14:41H. Foley?

  What the hell is that?

• 14:42Speaker 01

  I thought you were joking.

• 14:42Speaker 03

No, no, I'm being dead serious.

• 14:44H. Foley?

  What's a Weimaraner?

• 14:45Speaker 03

  It's a, uh-

• 14:46H. Foley?

  Sounds like a car.

• 14:47Speaker 03

No, it's like a greyhound without the athletic ability.

• 14:53H. Foley?

  Became a college roommate.

• 14:54Speaker 03

Let me tell y'all, y'all don't know this, but that description is just...

• 14:57Speaker 01

That's probably that. How do you spell it? Weimer?

• 14:59H. Foley?

  The athletic ability.

• 15:01Speaker 01

Ah, there you go. Weimer, aimer dog.

• 15:02Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 15:03Speaker 01

  Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 15:04H. Foley?

Who were the people that left you the house?

• 15:06Speaker 03

Uh, I think they were the Bederos.

• 15:08H. Foley?

  So just a family friend?

• 15:10Speaker 03

Yeah, just, no, we didn't know them. That's how they were selling the home. We're retiring.

• 15:13Speaker 01

  As is.

• 15:14Speaker 03

  We're as is.

• 15:15Speaker 01

Going to a condo or whatever.

• 15:16Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 15:16Speaker 01

We don't have room for the dog. We don't have room for the mower.

• 15:19Speaker 03

It's not, it's not totally uncommon. This is a thing, I don't know how much it happens anymore, but you just kinda get to move in. And you can sell what, what you don't want of theirs and you keep what, but a lot of the tools, I mean, this man had a giant garden that we, that we went on and ran and such. So we kept all of his tools and all of his lawn mowers. It was a big help.

• 15:35Speaker 01

  Not a bad gig.

• 15:36Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, it wasn't, wasn't bad at all. Cause I grew up with like eight peach trees, seven apple trees, plum trees, pear trees.

• 15:43Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 15:43Speaker 03

An acre garden. It was like a gentleman's farm. Like we, we canned a bunch of stuff. Yeah.

• 15:48Speaker 01

  No shit.

• 15:49H. Foley?

  A gentleman's farm.

• 15:49Speaker 01

I don't know, first time I heard that.

• 15:51H. Foley?

How were the peaches? Pretty good, I imagine.

• 15:52Speaker 03

Oh man, it was unreal. I mean, walking home from school growing up, the trees would get so heavy from the peaches, they'd be almost laying on the ground. And I would just eat peaches all the way down the driveway and then, you know, hey, every, every few peaches, you had to turn around and try to hit a car.

• 16:05H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 16:05Speaker 03

But then, yeah, yeah, I'd knock down a few more peaches. It was the best.

• 16:08H. Foley?

Mom throw a cobble together with that, with those peaches?

• 16:10Speaker 03

Oh my goodness. My, put her whole foot in it. Yeah. Are you kidding me? Golly.

• 16:17Speaker 01

  I love a southern saying.

• 16:18H. Foley?

Yeah, that's alright. Okay, uh, can I ask you this?

• 16:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:23H. Foley?

When you were in the townhouse?

• 16:24Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:24H. Foley?

How did you feel about townhouse community living?

• 16:27Speaker 03

  Um...

• 16:28H. Foley?

Was there a pool, community pool?

• 16:29Speaker 03

No, there wasn't a pool. It wasn't, yeah, yeah. You know, I mean, I was just by my, you know, I was an only child till I was 12. So I used to grab the football. We, we had, uh, we had another dog that we already had, uh, a golden retriever.

• 16:41H. Foley?

  Nice.

• 16:41Speaker 03

And I would just try to run and he would tackle me and, I mean, that's all I played. I mean, I didn't really have anybody around me that I was, I, I mean, you know, if I would've known that I was a comedian growing up, it'd have made me and my mom's life a lot easier.

• 16:54Speaker 01

  Of course, right?

• 16:54Speaker 03

Because she said she'd leave me in her room and she'd walk by and it'd sound like there was five people in there. But she couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. With me, so I, you know, I was, I was a self entertaining person. Then when we moved to the house, I got, you know, that changed everything.

• 17:07H. Foley?

That's a good quote, man. If I knew I was a comedian, it would have made my life a lot easier.

• 17:10Speaker 03

Yeah. Well, cause you're constantly in the principal's office and they go, we, we can't tell if you're dumb or if you just don't care, son.

• 17:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:18Speaker 03

And you go, well, it's, it's neither. I'm just gonna always send it if I can.

• 17:22Speaker 01

  I'm riffing here, dude.

• 17:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:23Speaker 01

  I'm killing.

• 17:24Speaker 03

I mean, I crushed English for an hour until you got in there. Yeah.

• 17:29Speaker 01

Yeah. I, I, I once had a teacher said, help me, ask my mom, help me help your son. And I was like, my mom's like, if a teacher ever says it to me again, I'll fucking kill you.

• 17:39Speaker 03

I love it. I had a teacher tell my mom that your son's either gonna end up in prison or Saturday Night Live.

• 17:44Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 17:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:45Speaker 01

  Well, fingers crossed.

• 17:46Speaker 03

  Yeah, no kidding.

• 17:47H. Foley?

I can't get over the fact that you were doing Oklahoma drills with the golden retriever.

• 17:51Speaker 03

I really was. I really was. And I, I mean, he won some, I won some.

• 17:56H. Foley?

  Hey, man.

• 17:56Speaker 03

  Game of inches.

• 17:57H. Foley?

  Can't miss something about Lucy.

• 17:59Speaker 01

• 19:39Speaker 01

I had one of my cards, I had, I lost it, I had to get it, I never signed it back. I never like entered it back up to track my spending. And it got out of control. And I said, you know what the heck's going on here? I was like, I threw it back in Rocket Money, my fault, my problem. Put it in Rocket Money and went, hey, you got this hidden. I don't want to say the amount and to who, but you got this hidden. My wife signed up, didn't, you know.

  Do it.

• 20:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:43H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 20:44Speaker 01

At any point, you know, before 18, whatever, who was the most famous person you met as a kid? Didn't have to be a big celebrity, could have been a local.

• 20:50H. Foley?

News guy or something down there.

• 20:52Speaker 01

  Somebody.

• 20:52Speaker 03

I met Pete Rose in Boca Raton.

• 20:55H. Foley?

  What?

• 20:55Speaker 03

  Yeah, as a kid. Yeah.

• 20:57H. Foley?

Get the fuck out of here.

• 20:59Speaker 03

Pete Rose, yeah. Shook his hand. He was, he was at a restaurant. I don't know if it was his restaurant or at a restaurant, but he was signing stuff and shaking hands and I was with my grandparents.

• 21:08H. Foley?

What were you doing in Boca Raton, Florida?

• 21:09Speaker 03

That man, it just keeps going. My, I don't know my father, but my grandpa, my grandma and grandpa Stroup lived in Boca and I went and visited him one summer and didn't see my dad or anything, but they wanted to spend time with me. So I spent, I spent a summer in Boca Raton where they lived.

• 21:26H. Foley?

  A summer?

• 21:27Speaker 03

Yeah, because the backstory, here's, here's, my grand, the Stroup's made good money for themselves and my mother. Came from a family that was like very blue collar, salt of the earth people.

• 21:37H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 21:38Speaker 03

And so when my, when Darren got my mother pregnant, it was the, the rich family getting the poor cheerleader pregnant.

• 21:44Speaker 01

From the wrong side of the track.

• 21:45Speaker 03

So he tried, the Stroup tried to act like it never happened.

• 21:47H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 21:48Speaker 03

So, so they just, you know, particularly my dad, but my, my grandparents, I've always been told, wanted to see me and, you know, they were normal people and wanted to, so I spent a summer with them down in Boca and, but that was the last time that I'd ever hung out with them and they, they, they were like way more rich than the rest of my family. It was a really interesting experience.

• 22:08H. Foley?

Did they know, so you hadn't met them or anything and this was trial by fire that you were going to stay with them for the summer?

• 22:14Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. You know, I probably was around them as a baby and such because, you know, my mom knows them through my dad, but I didn't like know them.

• 22:22H. Foley?

What age is this you did this?

• 22:23Speaker 03

Um, I was probably, uh, seven, seven or eight.

• 22:28H. Foley?

  Seven?

• 22:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 22:29H. Foley?

What'd you think of Boca retirement, coming from?

• 22:31Speaker 03

Oh, it was just crazy. I could not believe that we went out to eat every night. I could not believe it. I'll never forget it. I just could.

• 22:39Speaker 01

  Nice restaurants?

• 22:40Speaker 03

But yeah, nice restaurants. My grandfather, I mean, this, the apple doesn't fall far from the, he was a huge man that loved to eat. And I mean, I, that's like my memories of like him talking to me about food, enjoying food. And he was just a big old dude with suspenders on, a nerdy guy that made his money through IBM before the computers really took off.

• 22:57H. Foley?

That's fucking nice. So they were kind of retired down there?

• 23:00Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They were pretty young.

• 23:03H. Foley?

And where did your dad live?

• 23:04Speaker 03

Um, he's still, I mean, Darren lives in, in West Virginia.

• 23:08Speaker 01

I love the fact that you call him Darren.

• 23:09Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 23:10Speaker 01

  It's cutting. I love it.

• 23:12Speaker 03

Yeah. And it's also, I mean, I kept my last name, you know, my, my, uh, stepdad wanted me to take his last name when I was 16 and I didn't. And it became a kind of a personal thing, but I always felt like my biggest revenge would be not to disappear. So kind of the chip on my shoulder was like, I'm going to keep the last name.

• 23:29Speaker 01

  I just got chill.

• 23:30Speaker 03

And then I, and then I'm, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm going to come back for you.

• 23:34Speaker 01

  You can't ignore me, yeah.

• 23:34Speaker 03

You cannot, because then they win. And even at that age, it's crazy. I already understood that. I go, if I get rid of Stroup, then, then they've erased me. But if I keep Stroup. Then I, then they can't, you know, because that's kind of like my, you know, a little bit of my drive is like, uh, shoving it up his ass.

• 23:52H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 23:52Speaker 03

You know, with, excuse my language.

• 23:54H. Foley?

  No, what do you mean?

• 23:55Speaker 01

  What?

• 23:56Speaker 03

  And I don't even know.

• 23:57H. Foley?

  Talking about vengeance here.

• 23:58Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, and I don't even.

• 23:59H. Foley?

  Curse away.

• 24:00Speaker 03

I, I don't even, you know, know him or have any reason to meet him, but it's just like, I, I still have.

• 24:07Speaker 01

  Something you carry.

• 24:07Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, the same chip, because the older you get and the better you, like, you, you know, you see how great your mother is and your grandmother, yeah. That's what builds.

• 24:15Speaker 01

I just had, I, my parents got divorced, dad, I don't talk to my dad anymore. I, I had a kid seven months ago and it's like,

• 24:22Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 24:22Speaker 01

  Completely changed my perspective of.

• 24:24Speaker 03

  Absolutely.

• 24:25Speaker 01

Of any, of what she has done, what everybody had did and how I was a fuck up.

• 24:30Speaker 03

No, no, I totally, I had a, a baby boy four months ago.

• 24:33Speaker 01

  Oh, congratulations.

• 24:33H. Foley?

  Congratulations, my man.

• 24:34Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. So, no, I get it. I feel like Denzel Washington on Man on Fire, you know? Like, I'm just walking down the street and I'm like, whoever wants it can get it.

• 24:42H. Foley?

Man, you are fucking speaking our language.

• 24:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 24:45Speaker 01

  Woo wee. Yeah, it's, um, yeah, that's a, that's a, that's a, yeah, that's a lot. Lot to unpack. That's for a different podcast.

• 24:51Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 24:52Speaker 01

  That's for a different.

• 24:53H. Foley?

But your dad wasn't down there in Boca the summer you were there.

• 24:56Speaker 03

No, no, he was, he was not there. I spent that just with, uh, my, uh, my grandparents and hung out with them.

• 25:01H. Foley?

That's pretty, I mean, that's ni- was nice of them to.

• 25:05Speaker 03

Yeah, absolutely. It was more, even, what's even crazier, it was more my grandfather than even my grandmother. My grandpa, Stroup, was a, a great man. He was just very quiet and they kind of ran over him, you know, and he kind of took it, you know?

• 25:17Speaker 01

  Hey.

• 25:18Speaker 03

But, yeah, he was the reason. He was the one that was like, I want to hang out, you know, with my grandson.

• 25:22H. Foley?

  Man, I love that.

• 25:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:24Speaker 01

Well, I mean, what a, Jesus Christ.

• 25:26Speaker 03

Yeah, well, I was trying to see, I go, I, I, I'm ju- I'm just feeding a little bit of line at a time here.

• 25:31Speaker 01

  It's like you're crabbing.

• 25:32Speaker 03

I go, how, how much do they, I go, I got a little more line than you think I've got.

• 25:37H. Foley?

You got me eating raw bacon over here.

• 25:40H. Foley?

I know how to get the crabs.

• 25:42Speaker 01

I was a bunker boy. Uh, alright, huh?

• 25:44H. Foley?

Well, um, what was the grocery store that you went to growing up? Well, when we said growing up, we'll do, we'll consider Alabama.

• 25:50Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Alabama's where I have all my main, my memories.

• 25:54H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 25:54Speaker 03

  Okay, so Bruno's Winn-Dixie.

• 25:56H. Foley?

  Winn-Dixie?

• 25:57Speaker 01

  Well, was Bruno's nicer, probably?

• 25:58Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. Bruno's was probably nicer, but Winn-Dixie was like, it's just a southern.

• 26:03Speaker 01

  The go-to.

• 26:04Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, and, and southern grocery stores are unbelievable. Now Publix has taken that place.

• 26:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:09Speaker 03

You go into Publix and you're like, "Oh, you people have healthcare, clearly."

• 26:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:12Speaker 03

Like, I mean, nobody cares about lemons being this much taken care of, you know? Yeah.

• 26:18H. Foley?

This is when we had a little bit of cash, right? When your stepdad was working for your, when, working for his father.

• 26:24Speaker 03

  Yep, that's right.

• 26:24H. Foley?

  That business was good.

• 26:25Speaker 03

  Yeah, man, booming.

• 26:26H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 26:27Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had a four-wheeler growing up.

• 26:29Speaker 01

  Nice, what kind?

• 26:29H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 26:30Speaker 03

Three Honda, three hundred Honda four-tracks.

• 26:33Speaker 01

  Woo!

• 26:33Speaker 03

Oh, man, I had to make As and Bs to get it. And it was so, I made As and Bs just that semester.

• 26:39H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 26:39Speaker 01

  Just to get it?

• 26:40Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, and then it was just leverage for the rest of my life.

• 26:42Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 26:43Speaker 03

  Just held over my head.

• 26:44Speaker 01

That dude, a fucking, a, a, you got a quad and you got fifteen acres?

• 26:49Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 26:49H. Foley?

  Zipping around?

• 26:50Speaker 03

If you can't close that deal, you, you're garbage.

• 26:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:54H. Foley?

Did you guys make any money off of the, off of the farm, uh, portion of the property?

• 26:58Speaker 03

No, no, that's what a gentleman's farm is, is where you, you, you have a lot of produce and you, you don't sell it. You kind of keep it for yourself, can it, you might give it to your friends.

• 27:08H. Foley?

That might be, when you said "heat check" out there, I was like, "That's a sweet saying." You said "gentleman's farm."

• 27:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 27:14H. Foley?

  That's... It's a gentleman's farm.

• 27:16Speaker 01

This guy's chock full of good lines.

• 27:18H. Foley?

  Yeah, I like that.

• 27:18Speaker 03

This guy's got a little word play. A little word play.

• 27:21Speaker 01

You should be an entertainer, kid. Uh, okay, is it ground beef or hamburger meat?

• 27:26Speaker 03

  Gosh, it's ground beef.

• 27:27Speaker 01

Okay, I did not expect that. Respect it.

• 27:30H. Foley?

  Ever have a rat tail?

• 27:32Speaker 03

No, have I ever had a rat tail? No.

• 27:34Speaker 01

Uh, ever attend a wedding in someone's backyard?

• 27:37Speaker 03

  Yeah, for sure.

• 27:37Speaker 01

Okay. Whose was it? Do you remember?

• 27:39Speaker 03

Uh, no, because it was in their backyard. I don't drink anymore, but you blackout at backyard weddings. That's for sure.

• 27:46Speaker 01

  Well put.

• 27:47Speaker 03

  It's a keg out there.

• 27:48H. Foley?

You ever have a radio in the shower?

• 27:50Speaker 03

  Um.

• 27:51H. Foley?

Like one that sticks on the wall?

• 27:52Speaker 03

  No, no.

• 27:53H. Foley?

Okay. Was the house, were you guys feeling yourselves on the, on the classiness when you had the cash going at the?

• 27:59Speaker 01

Did everybody have their own bedrooms?

• 28:01Speaker 03

No, no, we all had our own bedrooms. It was still a tiny, it still was not a very big house. It was, I mean, like, I remember trying to talk to girls in high school and I would like lay under my clothes with a blanket on top. So nobody could, could hear me. Like, I mean, there was no privacy.

• 28:15H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 28:15Speaker 03

  Pretty small house.

• 28:16H. Foley?

I gotcha. All right. What were the, what were the family cars around that time? What was the old man driving?

• 28:21Speaker 03

The old man, uh, like a true southerner, uh, had an old beat up truck, um, that he would drive around, uh, especially to take me to school to embarrass me sometimes. And then he had a Nissan truck. Uh, I mean, both of them were pretty beat up. My mom had a nicer Ford Explorer.

• 28:38H. Foley?

That Nissan truck, do you remember what it was called? Was it an SE, SE something, was it?

• 28:42Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. Those small Nissan trucks that like-

• 28:45H. Foley?

  Not super small, but like-

• 28:46Speaker 03

No, no. Yeah, but they lasted forever.

• 28:48H. Foley?

Yeah, we had the same one.

• 28:49Speaker 03

I, I mean, it lasted forever. I mean, it was a stick shift. I mean, I would get in there. Yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah.

• 28:54H. Foley?

  You could drive stick?

• 28:55Speaker 03

Uh, not anymore. I have in my life, but I, there's no way. I would never want to anymore.

• 29:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 29:00Speaker 03

  I, I, I think learning, like-

• 29:03Speaker 01

  Seems so archaic now.

• 29:04H. Foley?

I think you'd be able to do it. It's like-

• 29:06Speaker 03

Yeah, maybe. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I really-

• 29:08Speaker 01

  He doesn't sound too confident.

• 29:09Speaker 03

No, no, no. I mean, I haven't, listen, it just keeps unraveling. I haven't drove in 15 years.

• 29:13Speaker 01

  And we're back.

• 29:15Speaker 03

  I mean, it's just-

• 29:16Speaker 01

  Why?

• 29:17Speaker 03

I got two DUIs, uh, and, and-

• 29:20Speaker 01

  And you're sober now?

• 29:21Speaker 03

Yes. Uh, 15 years ago, I got two DUIs. 16 years ago. And I haven't drank in five years, but yeah, I haven't drove since I, I haven't had my license since I got my DUIs.

• 29:30Speaker 01

Are you able to get it and just haven't gotten it?

• 29:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:33Speaker 01

No one suspends it for 15 years.

• 29:34Speaker 03

  Yeah, I got my-

• 29:35Speaker 01

As, as, as, as someone with a lot of friends and family who've had a couple of DUIs, nobody gets 15 years.

• 29:41Speaker 03

  No.

• 29:41H. Foley?

That should have been only six months and expunged.

• 29:43Speaker 03

You're right. And people think that all the time. I think they don't believe me too. And I'll tell them, they'll go, I don't think I can get as long. I can. Now, I, when we moved from Denver to here, we had to get a U-Haul. So I got my learner's permit, so my wife didn't have to drive.

• 29:55H. Foley?

  Hey, look at you.

• 29:56Speaker 03

Yeah. I knocked it down on the first try. I was, I didn't even study.

• 29:59Speaker 01

You should. You're fucking 40 years old. What do you mean? You're bragging about hitting your learner's permit?

• 30:04Speaker 03

I know a stop sign when I see one.

• 30:07H. Foley?

Can we go to Olive Garden now? You got your permit.

• 30:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:10H. Foley?

  Buddy, look at you.

• 30:12Speaker 01

  That's crazy, dude.

• 30:13Speaker 03

Haven't drove in 15 years. I'll drive in this city though.

• 30:16Speaker 01

  I'll get a U-Haul too.

• 30:17Speaker 03

Yeah, I'll drive in this city by myself though sometimes.

• 30:19H. Foley?

Hold on, take me through that timeline. Alright, so it's 15 years ago that you haven't driven. Where are you at?

• 30:24Speaker 01

  You're in Denver?

• 30:25Speaker 03

  No, I'm in Jacksonville.

• 30:26Speaker 01

  Florida?

• 30:27Speaker 03

  Alabama.

• 30:28Speaker 01

  Okay, so.

• 30:29Speaker 03

You're not gonna believe how long I was in that college town.

• 30:31H. Foley?

Wait, okay, so you don't really need a car there?

• 30:34Speaker 03

Uh, in Jacksonville, Alabama, you need a car.

• 30:36H. Foley?

So what the hell were you doing?

• 30:38Speaker 03

Uh, relying on friends that eventually gave up on you.

• 30:41H. Foley?

  Holy shit.

• 30:42Speaker 03

I was riding around, I lost everything. I lost all my money, I got evicted, I was riding around on a bicycle, smoking cigarettes off the ground outside of McDonald's.

• 30:49H. Foley?

  It's like Ricky Bobby.

• 30:50Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. No, moved back in with my parents, I'm 30 years old, tried to work with my dad, I worked with him for like three days, he's like doing these... Yeah, he's breaking his back, I'm trying to tell him, if you learn how to make a French drain and do some irrigation, you can make a bunch more money, we don't have to hedge these bushes and get bullied out here and we blew up and got in a fight and there was a girl that I was talking to at the time that lived in Denver, was going to massage therapy school. I come home, I go, I got no money, I just got kicked out of my dad's family business, I go, I'm gonna move to Denver and I'm gonna kind of chase this dream and that is where it kind of really started.

• 31:26Speaker 01

The dream of dating a massage therapist, my guy.

• 31:29Speaker 03

If that ain't the dream, I don't know what is.

• 31:31H. Foley?

He already hit the jackpot, what are you chasing?

• 31:33Speaker 03

  No, it was not.

• 31:35Speaker 01

Buddy, you can reta- now, yeah, okay.

• 31:37Speaker 03

Yeah, so there you go, there's, yeah.

• 31:40H. Foley?

I know what you mean about the irrigation thing, you were kind of like, hey, let's get a little more landscape design, little bit, put the beds in a little bit.

• 31:46Speaker 03

  Yeah, let's make more money.

• 31:48Speaker 01

When French drains hit, that was, dude, I did, me and my dad put French drains into this house.

• 31:52Speaker 03

  Guess what he does now?

• 31:54Speaker 01

  French drains?

• 31:54Speaker 03

  French drains, all the time.

• 31:57Speaker 01

Of course, a big ticket item.

• 31:59Speaker 03

And he never, he's never like, Derek, I know that time, I told you you were an idiot and made you get out of the suburban, no, no, no, no, he'll die, I mean, he'll be sitting there having a heart attack.

• 32:09H. Foley?

  Oh, man.

• 32:10Speaker 01

  Holy shit.

• 32:11H. Foley?

So you moved to Denver, that's where you started comedy?

• 32:14Speaker 03

  That's where I really started.

• 32:15Speaker 01

Well, one start, sorry. The move back in at 30 is a big topic.

• 32:19Speaker 03

  Nightmare.

• 32:20Speaker 01

Yeah, I had to do it. He's, we've, everybody, you know, listen, every dirtbag worth their weight in salt has fucking died.

• 32:26H. Foley?

  30, I think I was there when I was 40.

• 32:28Speaker 01

He might be back pretty soon, if we're being honest.

• 32:30Speaker 03

  What?

• 32:31Speaker 01

Things ain't going great for the big dog.

• 32:33Speaker 03

  Things ain't going great.

• 32:34H. Foley?

She don't make no cobbler, I'll tell you that.

• 32:36Speaker 03

  Oh, geez.

• 32:37Speaker 01

Ain't no gentleman's farm down there either.

• 32:39H. Foley?

You're a great cook, Patty, I love you.

• 32:40Speaker 01

Um, did you, that the move back in at 30?

• 32:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:44Speaker 01

  Right? DUI's already happened?

• 32:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:47Speaker 01

Yeah, so you're like, this is, this is crashing out.

• 32:50Speaker 03

  Oh, I've got nothing.

• 32:51Speaker 01

Did you go back into the same room?

• 32:53Speaker 03

  No, no, no.

• 32:54Speaker 01

  Basement?

• 32:55Speaker 03

  Sunroom.

• 32:55Speaker 01

  Sunroom?

• 32:56Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, 5:00 AM, just every, every, I mean, every light in the world. Yeah, 90 degrees outside, 3:40 in the sunroom.

• 33:08Speaker 01

  He's living in a greenhouse.

• 33:09Speaker 03

I, well, I just held bagel bites in my hand and watched them sizzle.

• 33:12Speaker 01

Wait, why they, why not, did they not, was that like?

• 33:15Speaker 03

They'd already moved on with their life. I mean, they.

• 33:18Speaker 01

You got the two younger, the two younger siblings.

• 33:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:21H. Foley?

  Can't move the computer room?

• 33:22Speaker 03

Yeah, my sister, she's still at home when I come back for all this, and she's just in shock, I mean, you know, it was, it was wild. It was, that was for sure the lowest point, but that was the turning point. That's kind of like when I was like, no.

• 33:35Speaker 01

  I gotta get it together.

• 33:36Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, because I would not be, you know, long, very, very long story short, I would not be a comedian or chasing this dream or have any of the, the edge that I've got if I did not just have my face buried in the dirt.

• 33:47Speaker 01

  Sure, understandable.

• 33:48Speaker 03

It changed how I look at everything, yeah.

• 33:52H. Foley?

We know, right, what you're talking about, brother? That's fantastic. Um, were you in a bed in the sunroom or were you on a couch?

• 33:58Speaker 03

Yeah, I had a bed in there.

• 33:59H. Foley?

So it wasn't really a functioning sunroom once you got in there, that was kind of like, alright?

• 34:03Speaker 03

It was like the guest room already, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 34:06Speaker 01

So it was quasi a bedroom?

• 34:08Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 34:09H. Foley?

Well, let's talk about that for a second.

• 34:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:11H. Foley?

Your parents had a guest room in the sunroom?

• 34:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:14H. Foley?

So like if an aunt or an uncle or a family friend came to stay?

• 34:17Speaker 01

Got to get in a microwave. What the fuck is that?

• 34:20Speaker 03

I mean, I told you, we lived in a small house. The sunroom was an addition we added on. Very nice. Yeah, yeah, I mean, before that, it was like a birdhouse with a bath. I mean, it was tiny.

• 34:30Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 34:31H. Foley?

  Wow.

• 34:31Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 34:32H. Foley?

  And no car?

• 34:34Speaker 03

  No car.

• 34:34H. Foley?

  So what did you?

• 34:35Speaker 03

And they wouldn't let me go, and like, nobody was, my parents were completely done with me at this point.

• 34:39H. Foley?

  Uh huh.

• 34:40Speaker 03

They were done. They were done, like, not like being like, you know, nasty to my face, it's just no more favors.

• 34:46H. Foley?

  Right.

• 34:47Speaker 03

  No more money.

• 34:47Speaker 01

Yeah, you wore out your waffle a little bit.

• 34:48Speaker 03

No more, uh, you know, no more giving you rides to places.

• 34:52H. Foley?

  So what were you doing?

• 34:54Speaker 03

I was just in there plotting my revenge. And you know what's so crazy?

• 34:59Speaker 01

  Frank's fucking drained.

• 35:00Speaker 03

And I feel this connection with you. It's so crazy to be plotting your revenge in a situation you created, but it still works.

• 35:05Speaker 01

And you got no resources at the time.

• 35:07Speaker 03

  It still works.

• 35:08H. Foley?

  That's my whole life.

• 35:09Speaker 03

I am mad at the world. I have created all these problems, but you will pay for it. And I don't know who, who you is, but when I find you.

• 35:17H. Foley?

I will have my vengeance on Derek Stroup at some point. Mom, bagel bites!

• 35:23Speaker 01

  What?

• 35:23H. Foley?

Wow. This really could have took a hard left turn. I'm glad, I'm glad he became a comedian.

• 35:28Speaker 01

  Uh, yeah.

• 35:28H. Foley?

  Sunroom.

• 35:29Speaker 01

  Either that or manifesto.

• 35:32Speaker 01

What, uh, when you're asking them for, when, when you're asking them for money?

• 35:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 35:37Speaker 01

What, what is, uh, someone I asked, I had to ask my mother for money well into, probably about four years ago, until this popped off.

• 35:45H. Foley?

I just sold my mom four hundred. I swear to God, I just gave it back to her.

• 35:50Speaker 01

  Um, what? That's crazy.

• 35:52Speaker 03

  That is crazy.

• 35:53Speaker 01

That's crazy. We're nationally touring famous comedians. That's crazy.

• 35:57Speaker 03

  I agree. I agree.

• 35:58H. Foley?

I don't have access to some account.

• 36:01Speaker 01

He keeps saying that, and I don't know what it means. Our business manager doesn't know what it means.

• 36:05H. Foley?

Venmo's playing hardball with me. Hey, I'm not a trial here, goddammit.

• 36:09Speaker 01

A little bit. What are the denominations you're asking? Like, are you going, let me get forty, twenty, like, let me get twenty bucks, just to, just to make it through the day? You're like, let me get a pack of cigarettes?

• 36:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 36:19H. Foley?

What's the twenty for? What do we think?

• 36:21Speaker 03

Um, just, uh, I mean, at the time, I think I was smoking cigarettes at the time because...

• 36:25Speaker 01

What brand, if you don't mind me asking?

• 36:26Speaker 03

What are you gonna do? Parliament's.

• 36:28Speaker 01

  The, the blue ones?

• 36:29Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 36:29Speaker 01

  Gentleman.

• 36:30H. Foley?

This kid is, why, you out of your mind?

• 36:32Speaker 01

Nah, P. Funks were all right back in the day.

• 36:34Speaker 03

  Come on, man!

• 36:34Speaker 01

We're talking what? How old are you?

• 36:35Speaker 03

  There's layers to me. Forty-one.

• 36:37Speaker 01

Yeah, so we're talking early two thousands?

• 36:39H. Foley?

Parliament, sunroom, no license, massage therapist.

• 36:43Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:44Speaker 01

  Two thousand and ten.

• 36:45Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Two thousand and twelve, something like that.

• 36:48Speaker 01

Still, P-Funk, Parliament Light is a very enjoyable cigarette.

• 36:53Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 36:53H. Foley?

  I bottomed out.

• 36:54Speaker 03

I just did it for a couple of years.

• 36:56H. Foley?

I bottomed out at 32, that's when I moved to Philly to start comedy, so.

• 36:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 37:00H. Foley?

That's when I was back on my mom's for a minute and then on my friend's couch for...

• 37:05Speaker 01

  Back on your mom's.

• 37:06Speaker 03

Let me tell you though, and you know this, because I mean, that's a shared experience. Let me tell you, a comedian that's lost everything, or somebody that's starting comedy that's lost everything, is a dangerous person. Because you're not gonna scare me. There's not a set that I get that's gonna shake me up. I've lost everything. I'm doing this just so I can convince myself that this is all worth still doing out here, living. Like, I can just remember getting to Denver and thinking, if all these other people got two DUIs, lost all their money and their cars and their parents' trust, they'd be riding a little sharper too.

• 37:42Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. They'd be hitting that late open mic.

• 37:45Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Because I wasn't doing it because I was trying to scratch a creative itch and I just wanna be heard.

• 37:51Speaker 01

  I just wanna try it.

• 37:52Speaker 03

No, man, I burned it all down. I'm gonna have to build this back one brick at a time. And it's starting here at the Lions Lair at midnight.

• 37:59H. Foley?

  This is Plan B.

• 38:00Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're live.

• 38:02Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. That's like when we moved up here, I mean, we were...

• 38:05H. Foley?

Gun to the back of the head.

• 38:07Speaker 01

I was on a... Not a futon, it was a couch that folded right onto the floor. Like, just like the... It was like an Ikea love seat.

• 38:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 38:16Speaker 01

That all went on, the pad was like this, and I mean, I slept on the floor of my buddy's apartment for 10 mon... I don't even know how long, and then I got a room and then his sister moved in and I was like back on the floor. So it was like, it was all that. He was sleeping under a kitchen table at our buddy's house for a handful of months.

• 38:34H. Foley?

It was an Ikea table, it was nice.

• 38:36Speaker 01

So it's just like, when you're like, I'm not, very well, I'm not here to express myself. I am here, I got shit I gotta get done.

• 38:45Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I got nothing left.

• 38:46Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. This is it.

• 38:48H. Foley?

Kim, I wanna talk to you about Ridge Wallet.

• 39:25H. Foley?

  Not no more.

• 39:26Speaker 01

You gotta pull out, not no more.

Kim, let's talk about Chime. As you know, baby, life comes at you pretty quick.

• 40:15Speaker 01

  You ain't lying, big man.

• 40:16H. Foley?

Things start adding up. You know what I'm saying? I wish I could go back and tell my younger self, if you're going to do a little banking, make sure you save your money. Make sure you do it right. Watch out for bank fees, all that kind of stuff. I'll tell you what I really wish, I could go back and say, hey, I wish I had Chime.

• 40:32Speaker 01

I know. Listen, if you're out there, this is where Chime comes in. Chime is changing the way people bank. It's hard. Listen, it's hard enough to keep a buck as it is. Then you got these big corporate banks coming after you.

• 40:45H. Foley?

  Overdraft fees.

• 40:46Speaker 01

Overdraft fee, uh, monthly statement, not it. Oh, oh, five, $5 for this, $10 for that. They got their hand in your pocket. Not with Chime. Chime offers the most rewarding fee free banking, all with no overdraft fees, no monthly fees, no minimum balances. You get 5% cash back on the Chime card in a category of your choice, like gas or groceries, all while building credit through regular everyday spending. And if you're ever in a pinch, SpotMe lets you overdraft up to $200 fee free. Look at that. I know I need that, dog. Uh, right now you can join the millions that are already banking fee free with America's number one choice for banking. Head to chime.com/garbage. That's chime.com/garbage. Sign up now. • 41:39Speaker 03

And also, when you've hit rock bottom like that, I was just making me think about you being there 10 months. I also, people should have these experiences because I know who my boys are. Dude, I was just thinking that.

• 41:51Speaker 01

  I was just thinking.

• 41:52Speaker 03

I got no doubt in these three or four men that are in my life. They are my boys because when I was down, down, down, had nothing to offer them but my friendship, it was plenty to them. Everybody else, if you've never seen the darkness, you've got this golfing putty you've had for 20 years. If you've never had any tension or had this guy need you to give you a ride somewhere or him be like, hey, I got, man, I know my boys.

• 42:16Speaker 01

Yeah, I got five or six boys that it's like, they have car block, they could call me and be like, you gotta drive to California right now?

• 42:21Speaker 03

  Absolutely.

• 42:22Speaker 01

And I'd go, I am so indebted to you with an amount of money I cannot pay back.

• 42:26Speaker 03

  Absolutely.

• 42:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:27H. Foley?

Am I one of those guys?

• 42:28Speaker 01

What? Uh, we'll be right back.

• 42:31H. Foley?

  I'm like, come get.

• 42:32Speaker 01

We were in it together, what are you talking about? I mean, but at the same time, there was times where like my cellphone would get shut off.

• 42:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:38Speaker 01

And I'd have no money and like I'd call him, he'd have 40 bucks.

• 42:41Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:41Speaker 01

Because he was, he was waiting tables, so he had access to cash.

• 42:44Speaker 03

  That was the best.

• 42:45Speaker 01

I had, I had like a corporate, not a corporate, I had like an office job, so mine was every two weeks. So he would get cash and I'd be like, if he had 40 bucks, he gave me 20 bucks.

• 42:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 42:54H. Foley?

I'd juice the shit out of him, no?

• 42:55Speaker 01

Yeah, I know. Never let me live in town either.

• 42:58H. Foley?

But still owes me 15. I'll say nothing.

• 43:02Speaker 01

You need those guys in your, in your corner.

• 43:04Speaker 03

  Wow, absolutely.

• 43:04H. Foley?

All right. Holy shit, Stroup. He's a very dangerous man.

• 43:09Speaker 01

Very deep and profound as well. All right, so you get to, you get to Denver.

• 43:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 43:14Speaker 01

  Jesus fucking Christ, you're 30, 132, whatever.

• 43:17Speaker 03

  I'm 30, yeah.

• 43:17H. Foley?

You get to the high ground.

• 43:19Speaker 03

  Literally.

• 43:20Speaker 01

  You retreat to high ground.

• 43:21Speaker 03

  Literally.

• 43:22Speaker 01

  Let the heat wear off.

• 43:24Speaker 03

That's the realest thing, that is true.

• 43:26Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 43:27Speaker 03

Maybe I can see them coming from here.

• 43:30Speaker 01

Listen, if they want to get me, they're gonna have to try. You know what I mean? They gotta come up.

• 43:33H. Foley?

I can see this Derek Stroup coming from here, trying to destroy me.

• 43:36Speaker 03

Hey, Colorado's a great escape state. I wasn't the only one. There's tons of people.

• 43:41Speaker 01

  It is cowboy, very cowboy.

• 43:42Speaker 03

Well, that and just people can go there. Nobody really cares, like, where you came from, what you're doing there. It's, it's, it's a very, uh, people start over there a lot.

• 43:52H. Foley?

And they say, if the shit ever really hit the fan, that's, that's, I mean, that's one of the holdups.

• 43:56Speaker 03

  That's right, that's right.

• 43:57H. Foley?

If there's a flood, that's, you know, it's the high ground.

• 43:59Speaker 03

  That is, that is.

• 44:00H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 44:01Speaker 01

Alright, so you get there, what's that?

• 44:03H. Foley?

  We're getting real dark.

• 44:04Speaker 01

  Yeah, what the fuck?

• 44:04H. Foley?

Yeah, it is, it is. There's tunnels under the airport. We're all losing it.

• 44:14Speaker 01

Get a slice of pizza, relax, will ya? Um, what's that look like? What's that, you know, just living situation, early on?

• 44:22H. Foley?

Any friends? Did you know anybody?

• 44:24Speaker 01

And why, oh, Denver was the, was the massage therapist.

• 44:26Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 44:27H. Foley?

  Oh, she was up there.

• 44:28Speaker 01

Have you started comedy at this point? A little bit? Yeah, you're in it.

• 44:31Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I've done it. I'd never, like, uh, like, been in a scene or anything. I was doing some shows in Alabama.

• 44:38Speaker 01

  Bars, whatever.

• 44:39Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, just like, but never been to a, a open mic, had never been in a scene. I was just really shooting from the hip. Alabama, there's, there was no real thing going on at the time. And then, uh, so I joined the comedy scene in Denver and I mean,

• 44:51Speaker 01

  Great scene.

• 44:52Speaker 03

Yeah, it was great. I did two open mics and then I quit for eight months because I just couldn't wrap my head around having to tell a joke in three to four minutes. Because when I was in Alabama, I would just get up and I could talk for as long as I wanted to, you know, uh, cause I was doing it at the bar that I ran. Excuse me, in Alabama, I was the general manager of a bar. I'd put myself up, I'd take a bunch of Jager bombs, shoot some Evan Williams, do 45 minutes of just ranting. Never been to a mic or met a comedian. I was just trying to, you know, I was like, if I hear wagon wheel one more time, I'm gonna kill myself.

• 45:22H. Foley?

  It's a great song.

• 45:23Speaker 03

So I just made up my own entertainment. So, when I came to Denver, I had, I, I, I learned some lessons really quick. Kind of got my feelings hurt. Had to go back and regroup.

• 45:31Speaker 01

  Did the same thing.

• 45:32Speaker 03

And then I came, when I came back, I was like, alright, you know what to expect. You're gonna get hit in the mouth here, but you know what to expect and then, you know, the rest is history.

• 45:39Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 45:40H. Foley?

How'd you meet the massage therapist again?

• 45:42Speaker 03

  Uh, in college, like-

• 45:44H. Foley?

Oh, you knew her from college?

• 45:45Speaker 03

  In Jacksonville, yeah, yeah.

• 45:46H. Foley?

Alright, so you knew her from college?

• 45:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 45:48H. Foley?

Then, what, you just reconnected a little bit?

• 45:50Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we were like off and on for a long time.

• 45:53H. Foley?

And she's like, "I'm in Denver now."

• 45:54Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 45:55H. Foley?

  Becoming a massage therapist.

• 45:56Speaker 03

  That's right, that's right.

• 45:57H. Foley?

"Why don't you come up here?"

• 45:58Speaker 03

Yeah, she was like, "I think you'll like it," you know, and so-

• 46:00H. Foley?

And you moved in with her?

• 46:01Speaker 03

Yeah, uh, her and like, I mean, you know, like, three other roommates that you meet off Craigslist. It was a-

• 46:07H. Foley?

  Was she already up there?

• 46:08Speaker 03

A real handbag of people, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 46:10H. Foley?

And she was with the roommates?

• 46:11Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, they were all, I mean, yeah.

• 46:13H. Foley?

You got, you moved into her room?

• 46:14Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 46:15H. Foley?

So you were a guy staying in one of the roommate's rooms?

• 46:18Speaker 03

Yes, yeah, yeah. I mean, it was a house that, where they were like renting out rooms, essentially.

• 46:22H. Foley?

  Uh-huh.

• 46:23Speaker 03

And this was like the first six months that I lived there, and then, uh, got a place downtown, uh, after that, and I lived there for the-

• 46:29H. Foley?

  With you and her?

• 46:30Speaker 03

Yeah, uh, for just a little bit, and then we separated.

• 46:32H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 46:33Speaker 03

I'm, I'm married to a totally different woman now.

• 46:36Speaker 01

Totally, I've never heard anybody say "totally different."

• 46:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 46:38Speaker 01

Like, you know, just to, just to, just to create that distance? Nothing like the massage therapist.

• 46:45Speaker 03

Nothing, yeah, I'm, to a totally different woman.

• 46:48Speaker 01

She doesn't have roommates or anything?

• 46:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 46:49Speaker 01

  Um-

• 46:50H. Foley?

  Aw, man, that's alright.

• 46:51Speaker 01

What are you doing for money at this time?

• 46:53Speaker 03

Uh, I got a job at Sports Authority when I first moved there. And I didn't, I didn't even have, uh, I had, my license wasn't valid at this time, because it was still-

• 47:01Speaker 01

  Are you driving?

• 47:02Speaker 03

Uh, no, not driving, so I go to Sports Authority.

• 47:04Speaker 01

  How you get there?

• 47:05Speaker 03

I Ubered there, and, uh, I mean, the lady, I don't have a, I don't have an ID, you know, that's valid, a valid driver's license. She has to really like work with the company to get me the job, but I interviewed so well.

• 47:17Speaker 01

I got a loud guy down here?

• 47:18Speaker 03

Yeah. I got this guy from Alabama.

• 47:21Speaker 01

  He's got no ID?

• 47:22H. Foley?

I don't know what it is, but we need him on the team.

• 47:23Speaker 01

  He can move hockey sticks.

• 47:25Speaker 03

That's what happened, they were like, "We gotta have him," and so that's, and then after that, I worked at Big Lots. Yeah.

• 47:31Speaker 01

You did, you worked at a Big Lots?

• 47:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:33Speaker 01

  Cashier, what'd you do?

• 47:33Speaker 03

Uh, I was, uh, furniture manager and one of the best in the state, my man. Yeah.

• 47:38Speaker 01

  Respect.

• 47:39Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:39Speaker 01

  I was in there-

• 47:40H. Foley?

He didn't smack you when he said that?

• 47:41Speaker 01

  Slanging, slangin' Ashley Furniture.

• 47:44H. Foley?

  I don't, uh-

• 47:44Speaker 01

  Shout out to Ashley Furniture.

• 47:46H. Foley?

I don't have a lot of experience at a Big Lots, but I like it.

• 47:48Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, it's not, it's not around anymore, but.

• 47:51H. Foley?

  There's none?

• 47:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:52Speaker 01

I think there's some outside Philadelphia.

• 47:54Speaker 03

They might be hanging on, but they're bankrupt. They're going out of business for sure.

• 47:56H. Foley?

  My kinda place.

• 47:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:58Speaker 01

  Now's where we pounce.

• 48:00H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 48:01Speaker 01

Um, you know, Jesus Christ, I mean, where do you, I don't even know, how do you pivot from that?

• 48:06H. Foley?

Let's talk, let's talk about now. Let's talk about now.

• 48:08Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 48:09H. Foley?

  A little bit.

• 48:11H. Foley?

  Um.

• 48:13Speaker 01

I got before, I got, I got some, just some, just some.

• 48:16Speaker 03

I didn't know where to go.

• 48:17Speaker 01

What the fuck? I got some overarching, you know, just, you know, some, some touch points that we do with every guest. How old were you when you got your passport?

• 48:23H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 48:24Speaker 03

Um, I got my passport when I was.

• 48:27H. Foley?

What do you think this is gonna be?

• 48:29Speaker 01

Thirty-eight, yeah. Where were you going? To Monterey Hall?

• 48:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:32Speaker 03

  Yeah, you already know.

• 48:34Speaker 01

  That's not a dirtbag comic. I don't know what.

• 48:36H. Foley?

  Yeah, I love it.

• 48:37Speaker 01

  Respect.

• 48:38H. Foley?

  Thirty-eight.

• 48:39Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 48:40H. Foley?

What was the first time you had Nutella?

• 48:42Speaker 03

Um, probably like five years ago. Yeah.

• 48:47Speaker 01

I wanna get a span for it.

• 48:48Speaker 03

  It's not for me.

• 48:50H. Foley?

  Why isn't it for you?

• 48:51Speaker 03

  Yeah, I don't love it.

• 48:51Speaker 01

  Yeah. Too European for you.

• 48:54H. Foley?

Are you a peanut butter man?

• 48:55Speaker 03

Oh my God. I've got some on me right now.

• 48:58Speaker 01

  What brand you banging with?

• 48:59Speaker 03

I mean Jif, and I like, and I want crunchy.

• 49:02H. Foley?

  You're crunchy guy.

• 49:02Speaker 03

  Yeah, extra crunchy.

• 49:04H. Foley?

  What?

• 49:04Speaker 03

I, I wish I could put my, oh, I had some extra. I love peanuts. I eat them all the ti- I like peanuts in a shell. I'll just stand on my patio and just, just knock them down like I'm at a ballgame.

• 49:14H. Foley?

  Wait, with the, not?

• 49:15Speaker 03

Not, I take them out of the shell.

• 49:17H. Foley?

Do you like boiled peanuts, Iason?

• 49:18Speaker 03

  Oh my God.

• 49:19H. Foley?

  Southern man?

• 49:19Speaker 03

  I love them.

• 49:20H. Foley?

Very nice. Um, chunky peanut butter, what's the jelly? Strawberry? Are you a grape man?

• 49:26Speaker 03

Uh, we can mix it up. Um, I'll try a few different. I like orange, I like grape, I like strawberry, I like blackberry, uh, we can, you know, let me tell you, apple butter. Apple butter. Y'all had apple butter?

• 49:37Speaker 01

I had, and I'm not, I'm not well versed.

• 49:39Speaker 03

Oh man, my grandmother makes it homemade. That stuff, I mean, it'd turn you upside down.

• 49:43H. Foley?

  Whoosh.

• 49:46H. Foley?

Were you knocking out some jams and jellies back on the, back on the gentleman's farm? I assume, not you, but.

• 49:51Speaker 03

Yeah, well, no, they were, we didn't really, we mainly just like froze or canned the, the fruits or vegetables and my parents, I mean, they would really make cobblers and different, but a, a apple butter is something that my family's always made, yeah.

• 50:04H. Foley?

  God damn it, that's good.

• 50:05Speaker 01

Um, have you ever ordered a soda with no ice?

• 50:09Speaker 03

Um, no, no, I've poured it that way at my house before, but I would not order it that way.

• 50:15Speaker 01

Okay, what is the go-to soda?

• 50:17Speaker 03

Uh, I'm gonna have Diet Coke, I mean, in a perfect world, you know, when you, I, I, there's a lot of things I would do if I didn't care about living longer.

• 50:25H. Foley?

  As a younger man?

• 50:26Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, I mean, I'll smoke a Mountain Dew. Yeah, I mean, I'll smoke one.

• 50:31H. Foley?

Are you a Dr. Pepper guy?

• 50:32Speaker 03

  No.

• 50:32Speaker 01

  What?

• 50:33Speaker 03

No, I'm not a Dr. Pepper guy at all.

• 50:35Speaker 01

  Really?

• 50:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, I'll have it sometimes, but.

• 50:37Speaker 01

  Fascinating.

• 50:38Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I know, I mean, it's always, are you a Dr. Pepper guy?

• 50:41Speaker 01

  Of course.

• 50:41Speaker 03

Yeah, I can tell by your reaction. I can just see the stockpile in your, I mean, Dr. Pepper people buy it like the government's gonna take it from them.

• 50:50H. Foley?

  So, Mr. Pibbs?

• 50:51Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, I like Mr. Pibb, better than Dr. Pepper.

• 50:53H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 50:54Speaker 03

  Preferably.

• 50:54H. Foley?

  All right.

• 50:55Speaker 03

You know, in a fountain, water, you know, like.

• 50:57H. Foley?

Yeah, Chipotle did a Mr. Pibbs extra?

• 50:59Speaker 03

  Oh, man.

• 51:00H. Foley?

Woo! Yeah, are you a big ice guy, would you say? Do you like?

• 51:04Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 51:04H. Foley?

  You fill the cup up?

• 51:05Speaker 03

  I love some ice.

• 51:07H. Foley?

  All right, good.

• 51:07Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, love, love some ice.

• 51:09Speaker 01

  Welcome to the show.

• 51:10H. Foley?

Crushed, crushed, you a crushed ice guy?

• 51:11Speaker 03

Yeah, I prefer, but I would like the like Sonic Ice.

• 51:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, the pellets.

• 51:15Speaker 03

  Yeah, the pellets.

• 51:16H. Foley?

  With you?

• 51:16Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.

• 51:18Speaker 01

That's good ice. They sell the, who was it? Heather McMahon has the thing, it's like a, like a hundred bucks or something, you can get on Amazon and it makes that ice on the countertop.

• 51:26Speaker 03

  That is, that is incredible.

• 51:27H. Foley?

Are you biting your nails or do you clip them?

• 51:29Speaker 03

Gosh, both, it just depends on how the ballgame's going.

• 51:32H. Foley?

Where do you put, who's your team?

• 51:34Speaker 03

Uh, I got a few of them, I'm a big Nuggets fan, first of all.

• 51:37H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 51:37Speaker 03

And then, I'm a lifelong Commanders fan as well, so.

• 51:40H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 51:41Speaker 03

Those would be the two that would stress me out the most, and I'm a West Virginia Mountaineers fan.

• 51:45Speaker 01

  Gentlemen.

• 51:45H. Foley?

I respect that. Are you a baseball guy at all?

• 51:48Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, but I like it live, and I like ballparks almost more than I like the game.

• 51:52H. Foley?

  Hmm.

• 51:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 51:53H. Foley?

  Very interesting, I respect that.

• 51:55Speaker 01

  Who's your baseball team?

• 51:56Speaker 03

Um, I'm, I grew up a Braves fan, I also got a lot of love for the Rockies, cause I, I lived like six blocks from the field, and I mean, no humidity, it's a great ballpark.

• 52:05H. Foley?

  I'll give it to you.

• 52:05Speaker 03

  Of course, field's great, yeah.

• 52:06H. Foley?

Yeah, I'm with you, all right.

• 52:07Speaker 01

Have you ever checked into a hotel with your own cooler?

• 52:10Speaker 03

  Uh, no. Mm-mm. No.

• 52:13H. Foley?

When you're at a hotel, will you swim in the pool?

• 52:15Speaker 03

  Absolutely.

• 52:16H. Foley?

Will you worry if you have a suit on you or not?

• 52:19Speaker 03

  Uh...

• 52:19H. Foley?

  A pair of shorts work?

• 52:20Speaker 03

Yeah, a pair of shorts works.

• 52:22H. Foley?

Cool. When you walk back to the room, you putting your flip flops on, or you walk through the hotel barefoot?

• 52:26Speaker 03

I'm putting my flip flops back on.

• 52:28H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 52:28Speaker 03

You're just gonna have to deal with the...

• 52:31Speaker 01

They raw dogs it through the lobby. It's crazy. I've never seen any... They'll do shirtless, shirtless, a pair of trunks, no shoes, and just... He'll talk to you. If you're in the lobby, he'll go, "Hey, you wanna... What room are you in? You guys wanna pop down for breakfast?"

• 52:45Speaker 03

I can smell the days in he's walking through.

• 52:47Speaker 01

  Yeah, it was.

• 52:48H. Foley?

Do you like a hotel breakfast at a, at a two, three-star hotel?

• 52:52Speaker 03

Uh, not really. I mean, I'll try to fight through it, you know? I, I tried to yesterday, and it's just, it's just not worth... I would rather, much rather, go to the airport and eat a McDonald's breakfast. Much rather.

• 53:03Speaker 01

Respect that. We're big air... We're big breakfast, uh, at the airport.

• 53:07Speaker 03

Oh, I'm big fast food at the airport. I think it's a better pro... Like Burger King, great product, bad company. But if you can get them in an airport, they're...

• 53:15Speaker 01

  Trap them.

• 53:16Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, now, you got them where you want them. Now the food's coming through pretty quick. You're gonna get a Whopper, like you had back in the 90s, the ones that we really fell in love with. But anyway, I'm with y'all on that.

• 53:26H. Foley?

All right, I respect that. What would be your normal go-to fast food outside of the airport?

• 53:32Speaker 03

Um, outside of the airport, if I had to go fast food, uh...

• 53:37H. Foley?

  And do we?

• 53:38Speaker 03

  Um, yeah.

• 53:40H. Foley?

Are you trying to stay away from that?

• 53:41Speaker 03

  What is it?

• 53:42H. Foley?

You're trying to stay away from that these days?

• 53:43Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. I, I try to, but I'm much more of a diner guy.

• 53:46Speaker 01

  Ah.

• 53:47Speaker 03

I, I would much, much rather...

• 53:49Speaker 01

  You like a Waffle House?

• 53:50H. Foley?

  New Yorker.

• 53:50Speaker 03

Do I like a Waffle House?

• 53:52Speaker 01

  Okay, I'm sorry.

• 53:52Speaker 03

No, no, no. I love... I think Waffle House, the Anthony Bourdain episode where he goes to a Waffle House, I wanna play it at my funeral.

• 53:59Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 54:00Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:00Speaker 01

  I don't think I've ever seen it.

• 54:01Speaker 03

Oh, you gotta see it because he tells every... It's, it's the best. I'm a huge Waffle House fan. I wish there was some... I mean, in New York City, they'd burn to the ground.

• 54:08Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 54:10Speaker 03

  But I do love them.

• 54:11Speaker 01

Um, what, what's your go-to at a, at a Waffle House?

• 54:14Speaker 03

Uh, I'm gonna get, uh, probably the All-Star, um, and I'm gonna get a pecan... Uh, waffle, I'm gonna do my eggs over easy. Uh, I'll probably choose sausage and bacon. Yeah. Um, yeah, eggs, did I say scrambled with cheese?

• 54:31H. Foley?

  You said over easy.

• 54:32Speaker 03

  Uh, okay, two different types.

• 54:35Speaker 01

  Doubling up on the eggies.

• 54:37Speaker 03

No, I was thinking, I, I do go both ways, but like when I have a waffle, I like my eggs to be runny. Because I run a combo with the runny eggs and the waffle. Um, but yeah. Yeah, I mean, that, that's probably what I'll go with. The pecan waffle at Waffle House, you gotta try it if you've never. I've never had it. I find out a lot of northeastern guys have never had a pecan waffle and it can really.

• 54:54Speaker 01

We didn't, I didn't hit a Waffle House, so we were, I mean, we were on tour probably three years ago. And now it's like we stopped.

• 54:59Speaker 03

Yeah, it's a very consistent meal, too.

• 55:01Speaker 01

Yeah, oh yeah, a hundred percent.

• 55:02Speaker 03

  I mean, it's fast, yeah.

• 55:03Speaker 01

And they're right there, you walk in, you smell it, the guy's cooking it.

• 55:06H. Foley?

  He's cooking it right there.

• 55:07Speaker 01

And it's one guy and he's, he's handling like seventy-five orders and you, he looks like he's gonna fuck it up and he don't. It's out to, it's crazy.

• 55:14Speaker 03

  It's cra- it is so.

• 55:15Speaker 01

You hear them yelling out the orders and I'm like, this guy's, there's no chance this fucking guy's got this.

• 55:19Speaker 03

No, no, face cut too with an ankle bracelet on, making eggs fluffier than Gordon Ramsay.

• 55:24H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 55:24Speaker 01

  It's crazy. It's crazy.

• 55:25H. Foley?

I don't know what it is, ex addicts, ex-cons, man, they know how to work a fucking griddle, don't they? Shout out to them. That's who you want doing the eggs.

• 55:33Speaker 03

  You, you really do.

• 55:35Speaker 01

Uh, huh. Anyone in your family smoke a pipe?

• 55:38Speaker 03

Smoke a pipe? No, nobody smokes a pipe.

• 55:40H. Foley?

  Did you do prom?

• 55:42Speaker 03

Uh, I did, just my senior year.

• 55:44H. Foley?

Okay, did you go with friends or did you go with a lady?

• 55:46Speaker 03

Uh, I went with a lady.

• 55:47H. Foley?

  How'd you get there?

• 55:48Speaker 03

  Uh, we took a limo.

• 55:50Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 55:51Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 55:52H. Foley?

  A group is?

• 55:52Speaker 03

A group of us, yeah, but we did go to a separate restaurant, me and my date, this is very on brand for me because the restaurant everybody chose was not where I wanted to go.

• 56:00H. Foley?

Wait, you went out to eat before the prom?

• 56:02Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, we did.

• 56:03H. Foley?

  Huh.

• 56:03Speaker 03

Yeah, or, or, yeah, before, yeah, we did, for sure. Maybe it is, but yeah, we all went out to eat before, you have, go out to eat for prom dinner and they went to, I can't remember where they went to, but I went to a place called Landry Seafood because I wanted to use my parents' money to get crab legs.

• 56:18Speaker 01

  Landry Seafood.

• 56:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 56:20H. Foley?

  In Huntsville, Alabama.

• 56:22Speaker 03

  That's right.

• 56:22Speaker 01

  That's pretty good.

• 56:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:25H. Foley?

  I assume they were frozen.

• 56:26Speaker 01

  You a seafood guy?

• 56:26Speaker 03

Oh, yeah. Not, not fish. I love all shellfish, like crabs, oysters, lobster, clams, mussels, anything that's in a shell. I don't like real fishy stuff. I'll eat a grouper sandwich, but uh,

• 56:39Speaker 01

  if you twist my arm.

• 56:40Speaker 03

Yeah. Have y'all had a grouper sandwich? It's a little fluffier, mild fish, but on the Gulf Coast, go down to Pensacola, get you a grouper sandwich, you know? Start up a conversation with a guy with no sleeves on.

• 56:52H. Foley?

  Oyster man.

• 56:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, oh yeah.

• 56:54H. Foley?

  Raw in the half shell.

• 56:55Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah.

• 56:55H. Foley?

  Raw in the half shell.

• 56:56Speaker 03

Oh, and I'll do them baked too, you know?

• 56:58H. Foley?

  A Rockefeller?

• 56:59Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I can go both ways. Back when I was drinking, come on, man, raw oysters with an ice cold beer, just let me sit here forever. My god, if I just didn't get up and drive every time.

• 57:15H. Foley?

  Any pets now?

• 57:16Speaker 03

No, man, but I had a cat for a long time that I talk about on stage that I loved dearly.

• 57:21H. Foley?

  Passed away?

• 57:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:22H. Foley?

  I'm sorry, bud.

• 57:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:23Speaker 01

Uh, what was the first car for you? We don't think we touched on it.

• 57:26Speaker 03

  I had a Toyota Camry, a 98 Toyota Camry.

• 57:31H. Foley?

Wow, that's a nice whip right there.

• 57:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's pretty good.

• 57:33Speaker 03

To you guys, I dreamed of a truck my whole life, and then I got this.

• 57:39Speaker 01

What was the first concert you attended?

• 57:42Speaker 03

Uh, the first concert I ever went to, I don't know, was with my mom, just me and her, and it was Billy Ray Cyrus.

• 57:49Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 57:50Speaker 03

In Charleston, West Virginia at the regatta that they have down by the river.

• 57:54Speaker 01

  No shit.

• 57:54Speaker 03

Yeah, man, and she was so pumped. I can remember, I was probably like six, seven years old, and uh, I mean, we sang Achy Breaky Heart at the top of our lungs.

• 58:02Speaker 01

  That's a good one.

• 58:03Speaker 03

Billy Ray was on fire. This was like 1990.

• 58:06Speaker 01

  The height of it.

• 58:07Speaker 03

The, I mean, the absolute, he came out and shook his hair, and I mean, yeah, my mom had, was having another kid. It's crazy.

• 58:14H. Foley?

That guy had a fucking ass on him.

• 58:15Speaker 03

  Oh, man.

• 58:16Speaker 01

He had those tight jeans back in the day, too.

• 58:18H. Foley?

  That's fantastic.

• 58:19Speaker 01

  So I've heard.

• 58:20Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:22H. Foley?

  You're married now?

• 58:23Speaker 03

  Yeah, I am.

• 58:23H. Foley?

Right? Where did you guys get married?

• 58:25Speaker 03

  Uh, Pensacola, Florida.

• 58:26H. Foley?

  You got married in Pensacola?

• 58:27Speaker 01

  Had the grouper.

• 58:31Speaker 01

  I had no sleeves on.

• 58:32H. Foley?

I was wondering what the hell you were doing down there.

• 58:35Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 58:36H. Foley?

Or how you got down there.

• 58:37Speaker 01

Where, what was the, what was the venue?

• 58:39Speaker 03

Uh, we were on the beach. There's like 20 of us, 25 of us.

• 58:43Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 58:43Speaker 03

Small, like, yeah, it was very pretty, lots of flowers, intimate thing. My family, her family, we stayed there for the week and then got married at the end of the week. It was great.

• 58:52Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 58:52H. Foley?

And how long ago was this?

• 58:53Speaker 03

Uh, we got married, uh, May 11th of this year, uh, 2025, excuse me.

• 58:59Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 58:59H. Foley?

  Very nice, alright, so newlyweds.

• 59:01Speaker 01

  Was there any, uh, congratulations?

• 59:03H. Foley?

  Congratulations.

• 59:03Speaker 01

  Uh, was there any honeymoon?

• 59:05Speaker 03

  Um, no, no honeymoon yet.

• 59:07H. Foley?

  They were in Pensacola.

• 59:09Speaker 01

  I haven't mentioned the group.

• 59:10Speaker 03

What else are you gonna ask for? We went to Dave and Buster's twice.

• 59:13Speaker 01

Uh huh, okay. Is there anything in the books of like, hey, in two years we'll go?

• 59:16Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, we, we talk about it. I mean,

• 59:18Speaker 01

  Where's the wish list?

• 59:20Speaker 03

Uh, Greece is where we would like to.

• 59:22Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 59:22Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. That's where she really, really wants to go. Um, so, yeah, we've talked about it.

• 59:27Speaker 01

It doesn't sound like you really, really want to go there.

• 59:29Speaker 03

Yeah, it's alright. I'm just a little nervous about, you know, I guess that long a travel. I, I don't know, even though I fly more than pilots do. I mean, you know.

• 59:38Speaker 01

Okay. Uh, speaking of flying, uh, you do name brand luggage? Or what, what are you banging with?

• 59:43Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. I got a Swami Swammy, uh, Samsonite.

• 59:48H. Foley?

  Samsonite.

• 59:48Speaker 03

  Come on.

• 59:49Speaker 01

  Good. It's good.

• 59:51H. Foley?

Um, at, do you eat cereal still or no?

• 59:53Speaker 03

  Are you kidding me?

• 59:54H. Foley?

Do you have it on top of the refrigerator at the house?

• 59:56Speaker 03

No, if there was space, I would. Yeah, yeah. There's a cabinet above it that doesn't, the way it's layered, it's where I put my medicine.

• 1:00:05H. Foley?

You mean like your pills and stuff?

• 1:00:06Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:00:07H. Foley?

That's trashy too, I like that. That's trashy too. I never thought about that.

• 1:00:11Speaker 03

Well, I go, before I grab this bacon, I better do the blood pressure.

• 1:00:14H. Foley?

Yeah, the pills in the kitchen. Ah, same way, I love it. Um, what are the, what boxes of cereal in the house right now?

• 1:00:21Speaker 03

Um, I've got, uh, Frosted Mini Wheat and, uh, Honey Nut Cheerios.

• 1:00:25Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 1:00:26H. Foley?

I gotta give you classy on that one, like a gentleman.

• 1:00:29Speaker 01

Yeah, that's two solid adult, those are adult cereals.

• 1:00:33H. Foley?

What milk are you banging, please?

• 1:00:34Speaker 03

  Uh, I do whole milk.

• 1:00:36H. Foley?

  Good man.

• 1:00:36Speaker 03

  I know.

• 1:00:37H. Foley?

  Good man.

• 1:00:37Speaker 01

You doing a gallon or half a gallon?

• 1:00:39Speaker 03

I don't know why, but a half a gallon every time.

• 1:00:41Speaker 01

  There's some reason, yeah.

• 1:00:42Speaker 03

I don't know what it is.

• 1:00:43Speaker 01

It's a little less indulgent or something, you feel?

• 1:00:44Speaker 03

One of the things, I hate carrying things more than anything in the world. I hate carrying anything. So anyways, yeah.

• 1:00:51H. Foley?

Ever own a keyboard? You know, Casio?

• 1:00:54Speaker 03

Ever, have I ever what, a keyboard?

• 1:00:56H. Foley?

  Owned one.

• 1:00:56Speaker 03

  Um, no, no.

• 1:00:59Speaker 01

  Have you ever, okay.

• 1:01:01H. Foley?

  No, go ahead.

• 1:01:01Speaker 01

Sorry, when you were, back when you were smoking, would you ever get into the car with a lit cigarette?

• 1:01:06Speaker 03

  Hmm, yeah.

• 1:01:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:01:08H. Foley?

I assume you would eat in the car as well?

• 1:01:10Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, yeah, I'll eat in the car. I mean, I can house, I mean, it's like a magic trick. I can truly just house things. Like, sometimes I don't even know if it really happened.

• 1:01:21H. Foley?

  What's the vacuum?

• 1:01:22Speaker 01

Just got the trash? Would they even give me a sandwich?

• 1:01:26Speaker 01

Was this empty? Did they just hand me trash?

• 1:01:27Speaker 03

I come home with an empty bag. I look at my wife, I go, "Again!"

• 1:01:30H. Foley?

Who's to say? What's the vacuum cleaner at the house right now? You got a Dyson? What do you got? You got a Shark?

• 1:01:36Speaker 03

Uh, I got a Shark. Yeah, yeah, still in the box.

• 1:01:39H. Foley?

  What do you mean?

• 1:01:40Speaker 03

  I bet it's great.

• 1:01:42H. Foley?

  Did you just move in?

• 1:01:43Speaker 03

No, no, moved in a year ago. It's just hasn't, we haven't taken it out. My wife's just been sweeping and then I'll sweep sometimes, but yeah, we haven't, we haven't really dug in. I think we got it for Christmas, maybe.

• 1:01:53H. Foley?

  Still in the box?

• 1:01:54Speaker 01

  Ah, that makes sense.

• 1:01:55Speaker 03

  It's all wood in there.

• 1:01:56H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 1:01:58Speaker 01

  It's all wood in there.

• 1:01:59Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

Talking about it like it's a ship.

• 1:02:01Speaker 03

When I walk barefoot, I get most of it.

• 1:02:05Speaker 01

If I squeeze my toes together, I get most of the crumbs.

• 1:02:08H. Foley?

Let's go a couple old school cues. You pee in the shower?

• 1:02:11Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah, for sure.

• 1:02:12H. Foley?

You brush your teeth in there?

• 1:02:14Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, for sure.

• 1:02:14H. Foley?

Is your toothbrush in the shower?

• 1:02:16Speaker 03

  Absolutely not.

• 1:02:17H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:02:17Speaker 03

I reach out onto the sink.

• 1:02:18Speaker 01

  Good gentleman.

• 1:02:19H. Foley?

  Like a gentleman, okay.

• 1:02:20Speaker 01

Well, you pee in a pool?

• 1:02:22Speaker 03

  Um, depends.

• 1:02:24H. Foley?

  On?

• 1:02:25Speaker 03

Uh, the amount of people that are around me. Like, if it's like just packed with people, I'd, I'll have a little bit of a conscience.

• 1:02:32Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:02:32Speaker 03

But I, yeah, I'll pee in a pool.

• 1:02:34Speaker 01

If you're by yourself at a Ramada Inn.

• 1:02:35Speaker 03

Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I don't even, I don't even get in to pee in it.

• 1:02:40Speaker 01

I'd do it from the chair.

• 1:02:41Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:02:43H. Foley?

Um, if you dribble a little bit on the toilet seat as you're, as you're, as you're peeing?

• 1:02:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:02:48H. Foley?

Do you, you got your socks on? Will you give it a little, little wiper now?

• 1:02:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

• 1:02:54H. Foley?

  Do a little?

• 1:02:54Speaker 03

  I will always wipe, yeah.

• 1:02:55H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:02:56Speaker 01

How, if now, let's say you, you know, you gotta do number two, it's an away game, you're out, you're on the road, whatever. Are you doing anything to the public toilet seat to clean it? Are you, are you laying it down? You wiping, you eyeballing it?

• 1:03:09Speaker 03

I carry the United hand wipes on me. The little like blue square packet United hand wipes they give you. They're like these little sanitizers.

• 1:03:17H. Foley?

You mean from the airline company?

• 1:03:19Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, because they pass them out and I fly United all the time.

• 1:03:21Speaker 01

  You're a United man.

• 1:03:22Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:03:23H. Foley?

  Interesting.

• 1:03:24Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:03:24H. Foley?

  And you save them?

• 1:03:25Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, and I'll save them and I use them for public toilets if I like, I travel with them.

• 1:03:29Speaker 01

You got them in your bag, yeah.

• 1:03:30Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so I will wipe down the toilet.

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

  That's pretty good.

• 1:03:33Speaker 03

And then I'll sit down with just all the confidence.

• 1:03:36Speaker 01

  Barebacking.

• 1:03:36Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:03:37H. Foley?

Long way from that sunroom, huh?

• 1:03:39Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:03:41H. Foley?

  United wipes.

• 1:03:42Speaker 01

Uh, have you ever owned a butterfly knife or a switchblade?

• 1:03:45Speaker 03

  No, no.

• 1:03:46H. Foley?

  Chinese star?

• 1:03:47Speaker 03

  Uh, love the restaurant.

• 1:03:54H. Foley?

Give me one poster that was on your wall as a kid.

• 1:03:56Speaker 03

Uh, one poster that was on the wall as a kid, um, let me think. Probably be, I wasn't a poster guy, man, so this is a struggle for me. Brett Favre?

• 1:04:08Speaker 01

  I'll give you that.

• 1:04:08H. Foley?

  Good one, Favre. Very nice.

• 1:04:10Speaker 01

Uh, you know how to use chopsticks?

• 1:04:12Speaker 03

I do. My wife had to do, had to fix that.

• 1:04:15Speaker 01

Okay. Are you confident with it or are you still?

• 1:04:17Speaker 03

No, I'm, I'm confident with it now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:04:20H. Foley?

How do you get the steak cooked?

• 1:04:21Speaker 03

  Uh, medium rare.

• 1:04:22H. Foley?

  Gentleman.

• 1:04:23Speaker 03

Yeah, you can't make it, I mean, I'd be more mad if you went more the, the medium direction than the rare, rare direction.

• 1:04:28H. Foley?

  Okay, what about the burger?

• 1:04:30Speaker 03

  Uh, medium's fine.

• 1:04:31H. Foley?

  Medium's fine?

• 1:04:32Speaker 01

We were talking before we started, we were talking about steak houses a little bit. So you go, you'll go to Del Frisco's for like a celebration or a, a nice steak. What's that, what's that whole order looking like? What's the appetizer? What's the drink? What's the, you know, what's the steak?

• 1:04:45Speaker 03

Um, usually for the appetizer, uh, I'll, I'll go like scallops or shrimp. I like to do like a seafood appetizer.

• 1:04:52Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 1:04:53Speaker 03

Maybe both. And then I'm gonna do a ribeye. Um, bone in is what I'd prefer, but I don't want the biggest one. Sometimes I'll see a 20 ounce steak or something. I'm like, who's this for, man?

• 1:05:02Speaker 01

  It's wild.

• 1:05:02Speaker 03

I'm a sides guy, you know what I mean? I'm a sides guy.

• 1:05:06Speaker 01

Listen, this is our theory. Most New York steak houses all can throw out a solids. The steak's not gonna be that big of a variable.

• 1:05:11Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:05:12Speaker 01

It's the sides and the vibes of the place.

• 1:05:14Speaker 03

That's exactly right. So, so, you know, a 12 ounce bone in or something, maybe a 14. Rib eye and then my sides, I mean, I'll go over the top with it. I'll do some cream spinach. We can do some mashed potatoes.

• 1:05:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, we can.

• 1:05:28Speaker 03

And, you know, I don't know what the third one might be. Oh, Caesar salad, always, always. Always a Caesar salad. Love them. Love them. So, yeah.

• 1:05:38Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:05:39Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:05:40Speaker 01

  Very well put.

• 1:05:42H. Foley?

I mean, it's like he's one of us.

• 1:05:43Speaker 01

I know. It's crazy. He's a southern combination of me and you. It's wild. He's in between us size wise. It's very, it's very crazy. And we ever started an are you garbage southern faction, he would, he would be the guy.

• 1:05:58H. Foley?

  He's talking about the seas.

• 1:06:00Speaker 01

I know. Big sides guy. We've said for a long time, we're big sides guy.

• 1:06:04Speaker 03

  I love that.

• 1:06:05H. Foley?

Those, those apps that you get, you're out with the boys or maybe you're out with the misses. You're sharing the apps, right?

• 1:06:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:06:10H. Foley?

  You're, you're, you're a solo apps guy?

• 1:06:13Speaker 03

No, no, no. I'm sharing the apps. I love to share, like, I'm gonna taste this. You're not gonna believe it. I'm gonna, you gotta have a bite of that.

• 1:06:19Speaker 01

  Spread the wealth.

• 1:06:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:06:21Speaker 01

Now, if you go to a restaurant, will you ask, if you get side of the table you don't like, will you ask for a different table?

• 1:06:27Speaker 03

Um, no, no, but they're always trying to put me at the bar and I like to sit at tables. I do have that preference. And I'm not, and I'm not a booth guy either because I don't need to know how big I am. I know.

• 1:06:38Speaker 01

  The booths are tough.

• 1:06:39Speaker 03

So I don't need the table trying to cut me in half.

• 1:06:41Speaker 01

Which is my one critique of the Waffle House, small booths at Waffle House.

• 1:06:45Speaker 03

  Small booths.

• 1:06:45Speaker 01

  It's wild.

• 1:06:46Speaker 03

  For sure.

• 1:06:47H. Foley?

For such a larger gentleman's culture.

• 1:06:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, for the clientele.

• 1:06:50H. Foley?

  Yes.

• 1:06:51Speaker 03

  Yeah, I get that.

• 1:06:52H. Foley?

Yeah. Um, are you a cologne guy?

• 1:06:55Speaker 03

  Big time.

• 1:06:56H. Foley?

  What do you like?

• 1:06:56Speaker 03

Big time. Been a cologne guy my entire life. Um, I mean, my favorite cologne ever was discontinued and it was like losing an old friend. It was called Intuition by Estee Lauder. And I still have a little bit.

• 1:07:07Speaker 01

  That's crazy.

• 1:07:08Speaker 03

I still have a little bit laying around that I'll sprinkle every once in a while on myself. I'm really trying to get an elevator going.

• 1:07:14Speaker 01

  I don't think I've ever seen that.

• 1:07:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:07:17H. Foley?

I love that that's your intuition is your favorite color.

• 1:07:19Speaker 03

Yeah, and then, uh, yeah, there it is. And then Dolce Gabbana, the one is what I wear most of the time, but I wear cologne to take out the trash. I'm a big time cologne guy.

• 1:07:29H. Foley?

I like it. Where do you go with that? You go wrist, wrist?

• 1:07:31Speaker 03

Um, no, I don't do any wrist. I go, I go, uh, two, two on each side.

• 1:07:38H. Foley?

Is this after the shirt's on or before the shirt's on?

• 1:07:40Speaker 03

  Uh, after the shirt's on.

• 1:07:41H. Foley?

  After the shirt's on?

• 1:07:42Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:43H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:07:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:07:44H. Foley?

  I respect it.

• 1:07:44Speaker 03

And I go a little heavy on the cologne at first because not unless it's a $600 cologne, you're gonna lose a little bit of that on the subway.

• 1:07:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:51Speaker 03

  You know?

• 1:07:52H. Foley?

I like it too. I'm a big cologne guy.

• 1:07:53Speaker 01

Uh, what kind of deodorant you banging with?

• 1:07:56Speaker 03

Um, I do the Fiji scented, uh, Old Spice, the, the white.

• 1:08:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:08:03Speaker 03

  Uh, like, uh, yeah, yeah.

• 1:08:04Speaker 01

Now, when you're putting it on, you're, you know, not, not casting, you're, you're a larger gentleman as well.

• 1:08:09Speaker 03

  Yeah, of course.

• 1:08:10Speaker 01

Do you put the shirt on first, then the, then the deodorant, or the deodorant, then the shirt?

• 1:08:14Speaker 03

  Deodorant, then the shirt.

• 1:08:16Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:08:16Speaker 03

But that can be tough sometimes.

• 1:08:17Speaker 01

  Very tough.

• 1:08:18Speaker 03

Because then, then somebody's like, hey, you got, you got white stuff going down the side of your shirt.

• 1:08:22Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:08:22Speaker 03

And then I play back to when I was wrestling with my t-shirt. Yeah, but yeah, that's, I do deodorant first.

• 1:08:28Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:08:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:08:28H. Foley?

As a bigger guy, bigger guy, you've done the, the pop out on the shirt as you're putting it on? You do the stretch out?

• 1:08:35Speaker 03

Oh, oh, yeah. Well, dog, I'll put it over my knees and squat down. I mean, I, I, I stand up, it looks like a blouse.

• 1:08:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:08:43Speaker 03

That's what I'm trying to do. Yeah.

• 1:08:46H. Foley?

I don't know why I'm still keeping score.

• 1:08:47Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, we were three minutes in. What, uh, at the West Virginia to Alabama is when I had him pegged. Um, what, do you own any suits? How many suits do you own?

• 1:08:58Speaker 03

I own one suit. I've only bought one suit in my life. That was for, uh, I did a CBS spot for Nate Bargatze on his Christmas special.

• 1:09:04Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:09:05Speaker 03

  Last year.

• 1:09:05Speaker 01

  Okay, does it still fit?

• 1:09:06Speaker 03

  Uh, no.

• 1:09:07Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:09:07Speaker 03

No, no, no. It fit that day. I was like a UFC wrestler. I was in there biting ice through a towel, trying to make weight for this thing.

• 1:09:17Speaker 01

  Can you tie a tie?

• 1:09:18Speaker 03

  Uh, no, no.

• 1:09:19Speaker 01

  No, okay.

• 1:09:20Speaker 03

  No, I can't tie a tie.

• 1:09:21H. Foley?

  Where'd you get the suit?

• 1:09:22Speaker 03

  Um.

• 1:09:23H. Foley?

Is it like an expensive brand? Like a designer?

• 1:09:26Speaker 03

No, uh, it's even worse. Uh, wardrobe, let me just take it home.

• 1:09:31H. Foley?

Oh, get the fuck out of here.

• 1:09:32Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:09:33H. Foley?

Man, shout out to Bargetzi, that's alright.

• 1:09:35Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:09:36Speaker 01

Uh, have you ever worn a tuxedo?

• 1:09:37Speaker 03

  Um, yeah, I have, yeah.

• 1:09:40H. Foley?

  You went to the prom?

• 1:09:41Speaker 03

  I was in, yeah, my.

• 1:09:42Speaker 01

  Court?

• 1:09:42Speaker 03

Uh, no, no, no, I've been there, but a couple weddings I wore a tuxedo.

• 1:09:46Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:09:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:09:48Speaker 01

I got one more and then I'm dying, then, you know, I mean, uh, do you have a go-to karaoke song?

• 1:09:52Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, Devil Went Down to Georgia.

• 1:09:54Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, you did.

• 1:09:56Speaker 03

It gets the place going. But if you see me singing karaoke, you need to get me home.

• 1:10:00Speaker 01

  Thank God.

• 1:10:01Speaker 03

  Okay?

• 1:10:02Speaker 01

  We got bigger problems.

• 1:10:03Speaker 03

Yeah, I'm not, I haven't paid my tab and I'm in trouble. Yeah.

• 1:10:07Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:10:08H. Foley?

  I mean, well.

• 1:10:09Speaker 01

  You know.

• 1:10:10H. Foley?

  Derek Stroup, 100%.

• 1:10:14H. Foley?

  Pecan waffle-covered garbage.

• 1:10:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:10:17H. Foley?

  Home run, buddy.

• 1:10:18Speaker 01

My kinda trash, baby, I fucking love you, bud.

• 1:10:20Speaker 03

Jesus, yeah. That was so fun.

• 1:10:22H. Foley?

I assume, Luke, you concur on this?

• 1:10:24Speaker 01

  100%.

• 1:10:25H. Foley?

Yeah, man, what a home run of a story, buddy.

• 1:10:27Speaker 01

Yeah, appreciate you coming in, big dog.

• 1:10:29H. Foley?

  Congratulations on everything.

• 1:10:30Speaker 03

  Thank you so much.

• 1:10:31H. Foley?

You're killing it, we're so happy for you. One of the funniest out there. Uh, special on Netflix coming in March.

  Yeah, man.

• 1:10:37Speaker 01

• 1:10:40Speaker 03

• 1:10:48Speaker 01

  Yes, it was.

• 1:10:49Speaker 03

  It really was.

• 1:10:49H. Foley?

And we know you're local, you'll be coming back.

• 1:10:51Speaker 01

Yeah, we'll have you back for sure.

• 1:10:52H. Foley?

Gang, if you don't know, check out Derek Stroup, one of the funniest, killing it.

• 1:10:56Speaker 01

• 1:10:58Speaker 01

  Love y'all, thank you, man.
