SC EP:1161 I saw something that should not exist

Tonight we will be speaking to Chuke and Todd. Chuke writes "I'm Chuke from Chuke's Outdoor Adventures https://www.youtube.com/@ChukesOutdoorAdventures. I was featured on The Alaska Triangle season 2 that can still be viewed on Discover Plus. I'm a bigfoot researcher living in Alaska and I have a weekly bigfoot show I do every Sunday on YouTube. I work regularly with Rob Roy Menzies, owner of The Bigfoot Art Gallery in Palmer and Larry Bean's Baxter author of a book on Port Chatham. I would love to be a guest on your show to talk about my investigations of sasquatch on Prince of Whales Island (where the upside-down trees are) and my sighting of a cat-like creature here in Alaska that matches the sighting of a recent guest from Oregon you had." Todd writes "Trying to get something off my chest that happened in the upper peninsula of Michigan in 1977. It's a kind of long story. I saw the creature up close when I was 11 years old." Spoke to the witness and he has agreed to come on the show. He said I was playing in the woods not paying attention to my surroundings and I came across this thing and this thing stood up and looked at me. The face reminded me of an old Native American but it was not human. I think it was digging for something. I was uncomfortable close. The creature looked at me in disgust and turned and walked away. At the same time I was running the opposite direction."

It looked like somebody was bent over and had their head in the window of the deer blind and it either heard me or smelt me and he pulled his head out of the tent and stood straight up and that, that shocked me. They don't make people that, that big.

• 0:31Speaker 01

The way it moved, almost as if it was gliding across the beach. I've never seen anything move like that in my life.

• 0:45Speaker 01

They were screaming at each other in gibberish.

• 0:49Speaker 01

It sounded like a language and they were chuntering away, back and forwards, back and forwards, back and forwards.

• 0:57Speaker 01

I know what a bear looks like and there is no way on this planet that what I saw bears.

• 1:14Speaker 02

911, what are you reporting? Jesus Christ, you better... Karen, see ya! Hello? Get somebody out of here. What's going on now, sir? That son of a bitch is about six foot nine, I don't know. Do you see him now, sir? Yes, I'm looking right at him. Uh-uh.

• 1:35Speaker 03

This is Alicia from Kennesaw, Georgia, and you're listening to the best podcast on the planet, Sasquatch Chronicles.

• 2:21Wes Germer?

Welcome to the show, everyone. Thanks for being here tonight. Got a great show planned for you. I will be chatting with Todd and Todd grew up in Upper Michigan and back in 1977, he's 11 years old and he runs into Sasquatch while playing in the woods. And I'll kind of let Todd go into it and then we're going to wrap up with Chuk. And Chuk has a YouTube channel called Chuk's Outdoor Adventures. And he was actually part of the Alaskan Triangle TV show. And he heard a recent encounter on my show and wanted to kind of come on and share something similar that he had seen.

• 3:04Wes Germer?

If you've had an encounter and you'd like to be on the show, shoot me an email. My email address is [email protected]. And if you get a chance, check out sasquatchchronicles.com. You can become a member and get additional shows. Let's jump into it tonight. I want to welcome Todd to the show. Todd, thanks for coming on.

• 3:28Speaker 05

Thank you, Wes. It's my pleasure.

• 3:30Wes Germer?

Yeah, and you had this encounter in Upper Michigan. We're going back to 1977. If you would, just kind of start from the very beginning. What were you doing and what happened?

• 3:44Speaker 05

At 11 years old, basically the woods behind my house between, between where I lived and, and Shank Road, which would have been the, the Native Reservation, the Chippewa Reservation, was a big old swath of woods. And I, I just used to go out there all the time. Just, it was summertime in 77. I, I just spent my time out there in the woods. I was kind of a loner kid. You know, my mom had to go to work. My grandfather worked. I worked, I lived in my grandfather's house. When I was growing up at that time.

• 4:25Speaker 05

And they both work and summer times came and I had no supervision. This is nineteen seventy seven, of course. And I would just go out in the woods, just, just look for anything, just, cause there's, there's, there was, I don't know about anymore, but there was a lot of wildlife out there. And, you know, I've just got wild turkeys and deer and all this kind of stuff. And, uh, anyway, I was, I was way back in there and it's not, it's not the, the most huge expanse of woods. It stretches like a mile between where I would go into them and before went to the, it's called Shunk Road.

• 5:11Speaker 05

And that's where the reservation started. And if you went past Shunk Road in those woods, you would eventually get to the river, but it, it was populated, but kind of sparsely. And, uh, yeah, I was just back in there as a little, as a little kid and just tromping around like I always did. What happened was I, it was, it was in the daytime and I just was tromping through this underbrush and, and I had to stop dead in my tracks. I'm like, I thought I had, um, come upon a bear and it, it, that scared me.

• 5:54Speaker 05

I'm like, oh crap, but, but it, it just stopped me dead. I'm like, I'm looking at something that's

• 6:05Speaker 05

  it's

• 6:07Speaker 05

clearly, you know, covered in hair. And I will say hair because it, it, it didn't, it didn't look like fur. This thing was facing away from me and I don't know if it was foraging. I don't know if it was eating roots. I don't know what it was doing, but it was. I'm sure it had to know I was there, but it was blissfully unaware of my presence at the same time because it didn't care because I was no threat to it whatsoever. I'm just a little kid.

• 6:45Speaker 05

So I, I just stopped dead. And then this, this thing that was like down. And I, I think it was just down on hands and knees. And I think it was maybe foraging roots, maybe foraging bugs. I don't know what it was doing. But then, you know, it became aware of my presence and I think it always knew I was there. And the, this thing, it just stood up, straight up two legs. I'm like, this ain't a bear. But it stood up and that thing like turned around

• 7:32Speaker 05

and looked straight. I'm still frozen in place. So the thing turned around. And like just looked at me. And it froze me even more. Never made, never made a sound, never bared any teeth or anything like that. It just stood up and looked at me and I'm at, when I'm 11 years old, I don't know, what am I, four foot tall?

• 7:58Speaker 05

That thing was like double me. I'm like, this thing, if it wanted me, it could have had me. Easy. No problem. I'd, I'd have just been disappeared and nobody would have ever known what happened. But it, it didn't. It, it just looked at me. It was big. I just remember it being

• 8:25Speaker 05

just freaking huge and I'm still frozen.

• 8:31Speaker 05

  And.

• 8:34Speaker 05

It it just turned around. It didn't turn its head. It just turned its whole body. Made no sound, which is really weird to me because it's in an underbrush. But anyway, that's neither here nor there.

• 8:49Speaker 05

But I was, it's probably because I was paralyzed with fear. But yeah, it just turned around and uh just looked at me.

• 8:58Speaker 05

And I I I saw its face. I saw most of it from the, I guess, the the the waist up with all the underbrush. And it just, it just, it just looked at me and it looked at me with it.

• 9:16Speaker 05

I don't know. The the eyes were dark. I'd say brown. I didn't see any whites. It had the look of an ancient person. I I guess I don't know how to describe it. But also an animal? If that makes any sense. It doesn't to me either. But that's what it was. When it looked at me and it it I don't know if it's was just consternation or that I just disturbed it or that it's like, you know, get the F out of here, you little shit. I just remember looking at me and it just as in like you shouldn't be here.

• 10:02Speaker 05

It kind of furled its brow. Large brow. Very dark eyes, kind of set back, felt like, but very

• 10:15Speaker 05

  very emotive.

• 10:18Speaker 05

And ver- very little hair on the face. It was like imagine like a person that's been around way too long that didn't die like dark gray skin and just like, just ancient looking. It's so hard to describe. And it but the features reminded me of like in Susie Maria, I I'm a I'm a white. I'm not native, but I went to a native school. And I would see these kids like grandfathers and such. And they kind of had those kind of features that were just.

• 10:58Speaker 05

Grizzled looking. I don't know how to explain it, but just like old Native American people is what I got from that. Just the really old natives. And it was, it was just so creepy and weird. I don't know. But still emotive and like sentient. And then it kind of like just didn't come towards me. It just did the same thing. Just turned around and just started walking away.

• 11:36Speaker 05

And then what I did was I snapped out of whatever like fear trance I was in and I just started high tailing my, my butt out of there. I was just, I was just gone and went home.

• 11:55Wes Germer?

And I know we're going back, you know, over forty years ago. Uh, how far away from you was a creature?

• 12:04Speaker 05

Thirty feet, I think. A long time ago. I, you know, between twenty and thirty feet. It was, it was close. I like, I stumbled on it and it wasn't happy that I did, but it, it, it also, I don't, it never meant me any harm. And it's like, it's like, I'm not going to bother with this little thing. It's like, I'm just going to move on.

• 12:29Wes Germer?

You know, in these sorts of encounters, um, people I hear it all the time. People think they're walking up on a bear uh, until it stands up or they look at it in the face and realize it's not a bear. Um, and people will say, you know, it was somewhere between a man and an animal. Uh, but in your case, you're thinking more, more man-like?

• 12:54Speaker 05

It reminded me more human if I'm being honest with you, Wes. It's, it was, it didn't look like a gorilla. It didn't look like a monkey. It just looked like, and really.

• 13:08Speaker 05

I guess it reminded me of like, imagine the oldest Native American person you can, that is just got all the native features and then times that by 10 to like, I, I guess my best guess would be like Neanderthalic. It, it, it didn't, it didn't vocalize a bit. It didn't even open its mouth. It just looked at me with like almost, I wouldn't say contempt, but just like, oh God, why is this kid here? I'm just foraging. I'm just trying to get a bite to eat.

• 13:52Speaker 05

And now I gotta, it didn't run away. It just walked away. And meanwhile, my ass is going the other direction is full speed through the brambles, through the, through the brush and not caring. Cause I just was like, I'm not dying today.

• 14:12Speaker 05

They didn't follow me. It didn't, it just went its way. It went towards the river, which would be, you know, it would have been just north and I, I went south.

• 14:25Wes Germer?

And I know a sighting is shocking enough, but growing up on your grandfather's property, had you guys ever heard anything before or had anything odd ever happened?

• 14:37Speaker 05

No, that was, that was, that was it for that. But I will, I will tell you when I, when I got back to the house, when I got back to my grandpa's house where I was living at the time, I went, I went in there and I was traumatized. And I laid down on the couch

• 14:58Speaker 05

because it's summertime and nobody's there. It's just, it's just, just me.

• 15:05Speaker 05

And uh, and I just laid down on the couch and, and then just like basically stressed, fall asleep because I was, I, I, it scared me. And while I was sleeping, I had a dream that these creatures that I had just seen surrounded the house. I had a dream that that happened. And I woke up just in a sweat and I'm like, holy crap. I, I hope that wasn't real.

• 15:41Wes Germer?

Yeah, it's pretty common after an encounter to have nightmares. I hear it from many eyewitnesses and I think part of it is just the shock of what you had seen. Yeah, it's very common with eyewitnesses. I wanted to ask you, your wife had grown up in that area and many years later, she had a sighting. Tell me about that.

• 16:07Speaker 05

I don't know if it's many years later. She was quite young. She would have been, it would have been years later, but she was, had the ability to drive a car and she was driving, it was on Sugar Island, which is in the middle of the Bay Area, between Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. There's an island called Sugar Island. It's pretty, pretty big island. It's not huge, not like Mackinac or anything, but it's, people live there. There's a ferry goes back and forth between the US side and the Sugar Island. It's, it's US territory. It's, but it's right in the middle between the United States and

• 16:46Speaker 05

Ontario. Anyway, she, she, uh, God, she must've been like 15 or 16 years old. She knew how to drive a car and she had to go get her mom from the bar, the one bar that I know of that's on that island and bring her back to her grandmother's place. And what, what she has told me is like, middle of the night, you know, 2:30 in the morning and just driving on those lonely, just desolate roads that is Sugar Island. There's not much over there. She said, it just went across the road on two legs.

• 17:30Speaker 05

How is something that's not supposed to exist, exist, but it does?

• 17:35Wes Germer?

Yeah, just kind of a quick roadside crossing. How far away? I know it's all kind of the general area, but how far away was your wife's encounter to where you saw it?

• 17:48Speaker 05

  Two miles.

• 17:50Speaker 05

Two miles and across the river.

• 17:52Wes Germer?

Yeah, makes me wonder, maybe they were kind of hanging out in that area and not just passing through. You know, because you saw it when you were about 11 and then five or six years later. Uh, your wife sees it just two miles from where you saw it. Let me ask you, I ask everyone on the show, Todd, what do you think Bigfoot is? What's your take?

• 18:16Speaker 05

Well, Wes, I don't know what they are. I can, I can tell you this. I think they're flesh and blood and I think, well, it's a real thing. I don't know how it stays undetected. I don't know. I think it's just, it's just elusive. It's, but it's a real creature and my opinion was, I think it's more human than animal. But I don't know.

• 18:47Wes Germer?

Yeah, you know, not all, but I will say the majority of eyewitnesses that get a look at the face. Uh, they're torn like how you are, Todd. I mean, they'll say, I've heard Native American many times in the face and I've heard, you know, the features is what I'm talking about. And people will say, God, it looked more like a man. It really didn't resemble an animal. Uh, the body people will say, oh yeah, that reminded me more of an animal or a gorilla, but when it comes to the face, uh, people will say, no, I was looking into the eyes of a man. Uh, it's terrifying, especially when you're 11 years old, just kind of running around in the woods and I think most people freeze like how you did.

• 19:32Wes Germer?

And there'll be a moment where it'll kind of snap out of it. And thank God the creature really wanted nothing to do with you, kind of gave you that stink eye, kind of that dirty look and turn around and walked away and it's an amazing account. I know it's something that stayed with you your whole life and I really appreciate you taking the time to come on and share it.

• 19:54Speaker 05

Thanks, Wes. I appreciate you calling me back.

• 20:12Wes Germer?

Next up on the show, I want to welcome Chook. Chook, thanks for coming on.

• 20:17Speaker 06

  Yeah, thanks for having me.

• 20:19Wes Germer?

Yeah, and you have this channel, Chook's Outdoor Adventures on YouTube, and I'll include a link below. Tell us a little bit about yourself and about the channel.

• 20:31Speaker 06

Well, I've always been interested in Bigfoot and the paranormal as a kid. I'd check out like books from the library and read them. I started this YouTube channel, which is, you know, about hunting and fishing and being outdoors, firearms and that kind of thing. And I've always been interested in YouTube. So maybe five, six years ago, I started doing an occasional Bigfoot video. And then during the pandemic, the Alaska Triangle TV show, it was the Travel Channel back then contacted me. And I was on their second season for a few episodes, just doing some Bigfoot stuff.

• 21:11Speaker 06

And then after that, I decided to get more into it. So I've done a weekly Bigfoot show on YouTube for the last two years. Every Sunday, I put up a Bigfoot show and I kind of partnered with Beans Baxter and Rob Roy Menzies, who owns the Bigfoot Art Gallery in Palmer here. And we go out on little expeditions. And it's just been a lot of fun, something I really enjoy and I find it fascinating. So.

• 21:37Wes Germer?

Yeah, and I know that you're out there in Alaska and you've been going out. Tell me about the first time you experienced Sasquatch.

• 21:47Speaker 06

Well, I've heard some strange sounds and I've, I've seen some things in the woods. I haven't actually seen a Bigfoot yet. I did see another cryptid that we'll talk about later, but probably the, the most moving evidence I've found was when I flew down to Prince of Wales Island and I investigated the upside down trees there. It was, it was just really amazing to see in person. It was really hard to find, like I, we almost gave up. We hiked that mountain in Klowak. I guess it was Klowak Mountain by that creek and we didn't find anything. We were about to turn around, you know, and been hiking all day. And then I, I found a couple of them and it was pretty amazing.

• 22:32Wes Germer?

Yeah, I've only seen pictures of those trees and it is pretty amazing, actually. You get conflicting stories on what caused that, but it is weird. If you get a chance for the audience, go look up upside down trees in Alaska and you'll kind of see what Chuk is talking about. You'd mentioned you'd heard vocalizations. What, what kind of vocalizations had you heard?

• 22:58Speaker 06

You know, it's, it's so strange. I'll be out on a hunting trip and I don't know if it, you know, I'm sure there's birds and different things that, that make strange sounds, but just out of nowhere, you know, I'll hear like a loud cackling, almost like a, something like a monkey or a baboon would make. And it's, it's just really unnerving. I've heard kind of roars and just, just bizarre sounds. I've also heard when a bear feels threatened, he'll make an ape-like sound where he breathes out kind of, and it really sounds like a mountain gorilla.

• 23:39Speaker 06

And I've heard that too, which is pretty scary, which I think was from a bear. But just, just all kinds of sounds when you're out there and many of them I just couldn't identify.

• 23:51Wes Germer?

Kind of going back to the upside down trees for a moment because I've only seen pictures of them. When you went and actually looked at them, what did you find?

• 24:01Speaker 06

Yeah, so they were bigger. I mean, some of them were more than, you know, a foot and a half in diameter is a huge tree, probably weighs a ton. And it just looked like, you know, 100 years ago, it was ripped out of the ground, turned straight upside down and shoved deep into the ground. And the locals, some of the Native Americans say that that's Bigfoot marking his territory, kind of showing his strength. And I don't know what else it could be. Some scientists have said that the smaller ones were caused by landslides. You can find

• 24:40Speaker 06

teeny ones, but these big ones, the scientists say were caused by windstorms, just like massive windstorms that ripped them out and shoved them straight down. But I, I can't believe that. I don't see how that would be possible. There's also a theory, because the, the ones that I found were on nearby old logging trails. And some people say that the loggers did them as a prank, but a lot of them were in really swampy areas, really dense brush. And I don't even think they could get equipment in there. And also, they, it would be such a big project,

• 25:20Speaker 06

they wouldn't waste all that time to do that to so many trees to, there's, there's just no way that they would waste that type of energy and manpower for a prank.

• 25:33Wes Germer?

Yeah, I agree with you. It would be a very weird prank. And all these years later, it seems like you would still find evidence of it being a prank, you know, them moving it with machinery. It seems like you would still see evidence of that. And I've worked on a lot of construction crews. You just want to go get the job done and go home. As far as it being wind, I guess, but the odds of that happening are very, very slim of it, pulling a tree out of the ground, turning it upside down and slamming it back into the ground. And I want to ask you about this odd encounter that you sent me after hearing an

• 26:14Wes Germer?

episode. But as far as you going out there, what is it that you guys actually do? And what is some of the best evidence that you have to try and convince a skeptic?

• 26:27Speaker 06

Okay, well, it's, it's pretty terrifying in Alaska because we have coastal brown bears and interior grizzly bears. So when we're doing these expeditions, we're, it's pretty terrifying because you want to be quiet and just observe whatever you can, maybe sneak up on something. But at the same time, there's lots of bears and they could be attracted to your food. So you have to be very careful. We found some big tracks, strange, you know, trees broken that looks like, you know, there was marking something or setting up a structure. But

• 27:10Speaker 06

definitely the tracks were the biggest one. And then I wasn't there, but when Beans and Rob were camping in this area, their friend was building cabins in this area, they called area A. And they experienced a lot of, when they started construction on these cabins, a lot of tree knocks and sounds and sounded like, you know, big apes getting mad. And then they were sitting around a fire and like a rock would be thrown, like a big rock thrown into the water. And there's nobody around here. I mean, there, you have to take a boat out in the middle of nowhere to get to these really isolated spots. And so like little

• 27:52Speaker 06

rocks being thrown into camp and then bigger rocks being thrown into the ocean. It's kind of interesting. When they first started in construction, you'd think that an animal would shy away from the sound of chainsaws in construction, but I guess it really made them mad and the activity and like the whooping and stuff increased when they, when they started up machinery. And sometimes it's just about, you know, their territory. We'll be camping next week kind of by Port Chatham, and that's a terrifying story. Probably one of the biggest stories in Alaska

• 28:32Speaker 06

of just extremely aggressive Bigfoot. Just from the investigation I have done, I don't know if we're more isolated and the Bigfoot are, you know, more wild up here, not used to being around people, but they're not very nice. They're not benevolent creatures. Like when I think of like a, you know, a creature in Northern California or something that, you know, might get mad or throw a rock once in a while if it feels threatened, you know, typically they're considered kind of peaceful. But up here, I mean, they have a history of killing people and it's pretty scary.

• 29:10Wes Germer?

Yeah, I will say in Alaska, they do seem, from eyewitness reports, they do seem to be more aggressive. And I know the Port Chatham story well, and probably most of my audience knows it well. But for those who may not, would you kind of explain the whole Port Chatham incident?

• 29:29Speaker 06

Yeah, so down, if I'm in the big city of Anchorage, if you drive kind of around the coastline, down the Kenai Peninsula for about 220 miles, you'll come to this town called Homer. They call it the end of the road because it's the farthest western road you can drive to, you know, in North America. You take a boat across Kachemac Bay and there's all these coves there. And one of them is Port Chatham. Now, it takes probably 10 hours by boat to reach that area, maybe, maybe six hours if you're going fast. We went by it one time in my uncle's boat and he told me,

• 30:14Speaker 06

you know, see that, see that cove right there? They had to move an entire ancient village because the Bigfoot was killing people there. So it's a really interesting story. I can't pronounce it, but you know, the local tribe has a word for the hairy man that lived there. It's a pretty old story and Beans Baxter wrote a book on it. He investigated all that, but what happened is they had like some kind of cannery there and they built a fishing dock and it was a small settlement and they started having these hairy man encounters and it started scaring people. At one point, like I forgot what it was. It was

• 30:56Speaker 06

like an engine block or something just massive was thrown and there were people injured. There was reports of people being killed and the employees just abandoned it. They refused to work. At one point, they actually had to hire armed security to try to get the employees of the cannery to stay there. Even that didn't work and it was just abandoned. I forgot when that was, you know, that was like in the sometime between the 40s and then 60s, but it was just abandoned. And there's some other, you know, English Bay is there, Nanwellak is close by,

• 31:37Speaker 06

and I think a lot of the the people just kind of moved to settlements around there and there's, there's nothing really there anymore, except some old, you know, it's like a ghost town, some structures, but definitely a hotspot for Bigfoot sightings, just, just in that whole area.

• 31:57Wes Germer?

Yeah, I know kind of the bulk of the story. I didn't know Larry wrote a book on Port Chatham. I'll have to have him on. I would love to kind of go more into it more in detail. And I think the natives call it Nannetinuk?

• 32:14Speaker 06

  Yeah, yeah, something like that.

• 32:17Wes Germer?

Yeah, I'm sure I slaughtered that. I'm sure there's a lot of natives in Alaska right now that are like, you pronounced it wrong, you idiot, but I gave it my best. But that whole story, there is something to that whole Port Chatham. There's a long history of it. And from my understanding, the Native Americans won't even go to Port Chatham. And it's kind of a ghost town. I've seen pictures of it and it does look like everyone just kind of up and left one day.

• 32:47Speaker 06

Yeah, and there was a couple expeditions there, but I forgot what happened. People didn't clean up or something, but it's very difficult to get there. You have to get permission from a certain tribe. And I was trying to, but it was just so confusing that I gave up and instead we're just going to camp about 30 miles away from, from that particular place. Just because the permission is, it's pretty difficult to get there. And I think they don't want people there.

• 33:19Wes Germer?

Yeah, it would be nice to get permission to go on there and take a look around. I know in from your email, you were a part of the Alaskan Triangle TV series. And there's something to that Alaskan Triangle. There is a crazy amount of people that just vanish in that area. Right off the top of my head, I want to say it's like 2,200 people or 2,500 people vanish in that area every year. What do you think's going on there?

• 33:49Speaker 06

Well, it's, there's a lot of things to that. It's such a big area. So the Alaska Triangle, the center of it is kind of by the interior of Alaska. And then, you know, there's different points. But first of all, the land is so unforgiving. I mean, the land will just swallow you up. There's just such harsh conditions, even in the summer, sometimes weather will come in. And if you're in a remote place, I mean, there's crevasses you could just fall into and it's just so dangerous. And sometimes airplanes just disappear. So a lot of it is just natural things. The land will kill you. The bears will kill you. It's just, just very dangerous. But then there's this mysterious element to there's, there's

• 34:34Speaker 06

all kinds of legends, probably the, the biggest cryptid in Alaska is the little people. And, you know, every, every region has sightings and legends of them from, you know, many different tribes in Alaska. And then they're pretty terrifying too, you know, these little people that you don't want to follow them. They're very mischievous and they, they can just take you away. There's some people that, there's ancient stories of people that, you know, got taken by them when they were a little kid and then they, they reappeared like 70 years later. And, you know, their, their parents are all extremely old and they're the same age that they, they were when they disappeared.

• 35:15Speaker 06

Just things like that. And then of course, tons of Sasquatch legends and stories of the hairy man, wild man. Yeah, it's just a dangerous place. And then you you add this mystery and lore of all these cryptids and just, just who knows. But yeah, people go missing a lot every year. And yeah, you got to be prepared when you go out. It's definitely scary.

• 35:45Wes Germer?

Yeah, I could see people going in on foot and having troubles in that area because the land is unforgiving. But as you brought up, Chuk, I mean, even planes go missing in that area. There was a famous case, I want to say it was back in the early 70s, Thomas Boggs, I believe he was a House Majority Leader. And I forget the name of the other gentleman, but he was an Alaska Congressman. Their plane vanished in that area. To this day, no one knows what happened to them. It's a mystery for sure. You had contacted me about

• 36:24Wes Germer?

this weird encounter that you had. And it was from episode 1150, the Round Bute incident that kind of got your attention. If you would, tell me about what happened to you.

• 36:38Speaker 06

Yeah, well, it was really interesting. That's the reason why I contacted you because I was listening to your show a few weeks ago. And you had a man from central Oregon that talked about his encounter with this kind of gray furred, cat like humanoid creature that he described in in Oregon there. And that's kind of very similar to what I saw.

• 37:08Speaker 06

So I was in, I was doing a hunting trip. So there's a place, I'm in the biggest city of Alaska here. It's called Anchorage and it's in the south central region. So I, it's nice because I'm on the highway system and I can drive really far south or really far north. I can drive all the way up to the coastline at the very top of Alaska if I want to. So I drove north about three or four hours into what we call the interior of Alaska. And we kind of get away from the coastal mountains and start entering, you know, the, the kind of boreal forest and then, and then more into Arctic kind of territory.

• 37:53Speaker 06

We, we have these just muskeg kind of clumps of kind of moss-like substance. But I, I was, I went to a place called Kasugi Ridge and it's in the mountains. There's, there's several trailheads you can, you can access that ridge. And some people will do, you know, expedition, you can walk it, you know, it takes, you know, maybe about six days to walk the entire trail from one section to the other, depending where you start.

• 38:26Speaker 06

There was one starting point that's called Little Coal Creek. And the trailhead I went to was Ermine Hill. In order to get to Kasugi Ridge, it's, it's very steep from Ermine Hill. So we have to take these switchbacks that kind of go back and forth. So you're not going straight up a super steep mountain. And so I had all my, you know, everything on my back, all my food. And I have to filter my own water and, you know, a teeny little camp stove.

• 38:59Speaker 06

You know, there are hikers up there, but I tend to do these hunts in the, in the spring and the fall, where there's, you know, hardly any hikers doing it because there's, you know, it's definitely colder. So you go up these switchbacks and it takes you to a valley where there's a little lake. And I'm usually so tired by the first day that I set up my tent in that valley. And then the next morning I headed up and started getting up on top of the ridge. So once you

• 39:36Speaker 06

Kind of get to these ridges, you you leave the tree line. And then it's just kind of this this mountainous area with only bushes. And you know that that muskeg moss looking stuff and and bushes and big rocks. So I was above the tree line and we have more spruce trees than pine trees, but they're they're similar. And I was, you know, looking for bears, so I I had my binoculars and I I had a hunting rifle on me and it had a a three by nine by forty scope, so I I keep it at at the highest power. And so that's nine times magnification.

• 40:18Speaker 06

So it was my second day hunting and I'm I'm walking on top of this ridge. And I see something, it was between eighty and a hundred yards away. And it crawls up on this rock. And, you know, I'm I instantly, you know, pulled my rifle up to look through the scope because it it's obviously a, you know, a large animal and I'm I'm looking for black bears or brown bears. And I I couldn't really explain what I saw, so. The first thing I thought was that it was a very young caribou because it had these huge ears.

• 40:58Speaker 06

What what it looked like was like a big mountain lion like creature with kangaroo ears. And it just sounds nuts. I I had a viewer say that he he saw something like that in Minnesota run across the road. And he said it was like a dog man, so I always I kind of started thinking, well, maybe it's some kind of dog man. But I'll I'll never forget the cat like movements it made. Now, it was it was gray colored, just like. That gentleman on your show described like a gray colored, cat-like, you know, humanoid creature. I'm not sure if this thing was humanoid because it was crouching over

• 41:39Speaker 06

this rock. And the reason I say it was cat-like is it was not moving like a caribou and there are not, this was too far south for caribou. Once in a while, the caribou might come down here. It hasn't, you know, it hasn't been ruled out. People have spotted caribou, but it's pretty rare. But a caribou is in the deer family and it's, its shoulders are pretty set. It just kind of, you know, moves like a, like an elk or something. Whereas, you know, a cat does, can, you know, crouch its shoulders and move its head down and move it from side to side. And that's what it was doing like a predator. And it was just

• 42:22Speaker 06

moving its head down. But then it had these big ears like a kangaroo. They were just sticking up and they were, you know, a caribou's ears are pretty big and look like that. But a caribou doesn't move or look like a cat and make those predator movements. And I had it on nine times magnification. I got a good look at it and I just couldn't figure out what it was. Now, some people said, well, you know, you saw lynx and it just tricked you because the magnification was so big. I don't think that's possible though. So

• 43:01Speaker 06

we don't have bobcats in Alaska. We have, you know, a related cat called a lynx and they get maybe 35 pounds, 40 pounds for the biggest one, but they're very fluffy and they do have, you know, these ears that point upwards, but they turn into just a few hairs. And they're not like big kangaroo ears. They're just like big cat ears. And this thing had just like weird, you know, kangaroo, big ears sticking straight up. And it was definitely not a lynx with mange. So it was short haired, gray colored, cat like face, crouching and looking around with these big ears.

• 43:45Speaker 06

And I was just watched it and I didn't know what to do. I thought about pulling the trigger, but then I didn't because I just couldn't identify it. And sometimes I go back and I kind of agonize over that. Maybe, maybe I should have just shot it. Maybe it was some kind of freak mountain lion. Cause we, we don't have many mountain lions in Alaska. It's, it's a cryptid that was finally confirmed by our wildlife services. That yes, they have made their way from Canada into Alaska. And we have a biologist has a confirmed sighting. So that was kind of neat when they finally confirmed that it was there.

• 44:27Speaker 06

But you know, those mountain lions don't have big massive ears like that. So yeah, I just watched it for a while. It definitely had sensed me. It was moving its, its ears around. And then it just kind of crept backwards and disappeared over that rock after a minute. And it was gone and I, you know, never saw it again. But to this day, I just can't explain what that was. It was just the weirdest thing.

• 44:58Wes Germer?

Yeah, you know, a lynx really isn't that big. I would say like maybe a small dog, about the size of a bobcat. And maybe a little bit bigger, but not by much. They're pretty small. And even with mange, I don't know that you would get that gray color, especially with a lynx. I think you would just have, with mange, I think you would just have missing hair. And, um, but you're looking at this thing through a scope. How big do you think it was?

• 45:30Speaker 06

It looked like a medium to large size game animal. So with nine times magnification you know, 100 yards away, it took up, you know, a lot of, of the scope. So it had to have been, you know, a creature that was, you know, maybe over 200 pounds, maybe between 150 to 250 pounds. You know, definitely a considered large game. It was, it was a big animal and definitely not a small link. So.

• 46:07Wes Germer?

Yeah. You know, I've had probably a dozen or so of these reports. I remember the first time I, I got one, I thought, man, is this guy screwing with me. Uh, but the more we talked, the more I realized this guy was pretty terrified. But I've had people run into this creature that is, they always describe the skin as kind of this gray color. And when it's on all fours, it moves more like a cat, but it does have the ability to stand up on two legs. I had the state trooper and as he was describing what he actually saw, uh, it sounded like Sasquatch until he got

• 46:48Wes Germer?

to the face. And when he got to the face, it sounded more feline. And I know you were referencing in your email, episode 1150, and Corey talked about that in Central Oregon. He saw them upright on two legs and it was more of a feline in the face. And I don't get those reports a lot, but I have gotten them. What, what do you think that thing is?

• 47:14Speaker 06

You know, it's, it's just really odd. There's, there's all kinds of, of stories of.

• 47:21Speaker 06

You know, different types of humanoids living in the earth, you know, that Dulce, New Mexico has a lot of legends of those, those creatures that kind of live in the mountains. You know, you hear all these stories about these different types of humanoid creatures that, you know, evolved in the earth and maybe went underground. And, you know, one thing we're trying to investigate is the, the pyramid under Mount Hayes. And I wasn't, I wasn't too far from that area. I was, I was in the interior of Alaska and I was

• 48:00Speaker 06

starting to get closer to that area. You know, if, if I wanted to, you know, fly to Mount Hayes on an airplane, I could probably get there within 40 minutes, you know, maybe an hour. So I, I was in that region and up pretty high in elevation on the mountains. So.

• 48:22Wes Germer?

Are you referring to the Black Pyramid in Alaska?

• 48:27Speaker 06

Yeah, it's, it's a pyramid. Supposedly there was a news story aired in Fairbanks that disappeared and then everyone denied that it was aired. And then the most interesting part about it was the people that were doing remote viewing, like Joe McGonigal for the CIA were, were looking into, you know, these, looking into the Cold War Russian stuff when their attention was brought to Mount Hayes. And then they remote viewed this, this pyramid in that area that, that had like humans working along with.

• 49:12Speaker 06

You know, these tall aliens and short aliens and there was this big pyramid structure in the mountains. So it's really fascinating. And there's, there's a few theories about where it could be, what it is. And yeah, there's just something mysterious. And when you talk about the Alaska Triangle area, that's pretty much the center of the Alaska Triangle, which just happens to be, you know, this mysterious black pyramid. So it's, it's really strange.

• 49:46Wes Germer?

Yeah, I agree. It is strange. And you know, I've had a few, I'm about 95% sure that pyramid is there. I've had two individuals off the air tell me about actually seeing the pyramid and being there. One was a current military, the other one was a veteran. The guy that was actually current military, he had told me he had landed there, they were dropping something off. He never got out of the Huey. But he said that the military that was there, their uniforms are very odd. They were just black. There was no insignia. There was nothing. And they quickly landed there and then took off. The other individual

• 50:31Wes Germer?

who was a veteran, he made it there. And to my knowledge, it's pretty difficult to get there. And he was asked to leave the area. Well, he was threatened, basically told to go away. And it makes you wonder what is going on with that pyramid. But I'm, like I said, I'm about 95% sure it's there. I should do a show on it. I wanted to ask you, you know, when you're out looking for Sasquatch, have you ever seen the balls of light that people talk about?

• 51:01Speaker 06

I haven't seen orbs. I have heard of that, but I've seen UFOs like, pretty far out in the atmosphere, and, and just, just strange. Well, actually, yeah, I was driving to Homer on the Seward Highway, and I even recorded a video of it, but this mountain, or this light came up behind a mountain, and it was just a really bright light. It was stationary. And it just kind of rose and I didn't make any sound and just intensely bright light and I just couldn't figure out what it was, but I was on an expedition at that time. So it was, it was pretty interesting. And then it seemed to go pretty, pretty far

• 51:46Speaker 06

up into the atmosphere. So we have tons of UFO reports and sightings all over Alaska. It's definitely a hotspot for that.

• 51:57Wes Germer?

Yeah, I would imagine with that Alaskan sky, anything up there flying around would stick out like a sore thumb. You know, when you interview eyewitnesses, is there one that kind of stays with you today?

• 52:12Speaker 06

Probably one of the more intense ones was I interviewed an elder, believe he was Klinkit. And that was down when I was investigating those upside down trees. So I flew to catch a can and I, I took a ferry to Prince of Whales Island. And we had to talk to some of the locals to even figure out how to get to the trailhead. But one elder told me that there was a family of Sasquatch living on the island and they were kind of spread out in different groups and that they had a language and that, you know, you don't mess with them. They did the upside down trees to kind of mark their territory.

• 52:57Speaker 06

But he said that he saw once just a massive Sasquatch walk up to a grizzly bear and just kind of grab it and snap its neck and then, you know, kind of throw it on its shoulder and just walk away while it was dragging it. And the, you know, a big grizzly bear, you know, they, they can reach up to a thousand pounds. You know, typically they're probably in the six, seven, a hundred pound. Area, it just depends where you are, but something that that would be able to do that, you know, it would have to just be massive and powerful. So that was probably

• 53:40Speaker 06

one of the more interesting stories that stuck with me. Another area that gets a lot of sightings is is what we call southwest Alaska. And and there's no roads that go there. There's a bunch of villages. So it's kind of the Yukon, Quaskoquim area. The the main village is Bethel, and it's a Yupik village. And there's just all these little villages around it. There's this newspaper, it's like an online newspaper called the Delta Discovery, I think. They haven't done anything recent, but they used to do a lot

• 54:19Speaker 06

of articles on the wild man of the Western Alaska area. And they just had all these stories. And my buddy lived there for 20 years, and he would, you know, he told me about these to read these newspaper stories. But there there's just tons of stories, like once a guy shot a Bigfoot while he was out hunting, and then went home and like several Bigfoot followed him home and started harassing him. And and again, these these Bigfoot are not nice creatures. Another time, it was reported in this newspaper that a Bigfoot

• 55:00Speaker 06

actually ripped a dog in half. So that was a story that that really stuck with me because and you know, I know that Bigfoot have instincts and you know, most animals don't like dogs because they just, you know, they're the wolves were their ancestors and wolves are these pack animals that that, you know, they can take down bears if they want to in numbers. So a lot of most animals don't like wolves, but to just rip a dog in half, that was just. Just really stuck with me and my buddy told me when he lived there that the government did not like people talking about it. There was a legend of a boy that ran away

• 55:43Speaker 06

named Gabriel Fox. He lived in one of those villages in that area. And in order to survive, the legend says that he turned into a Sasquatch. Which is kind of interesting because if you look at the legend of Port Chatham, hairy man, the locals say that he used to be a human and he turned into a Sasquatch. But anyways, this boy turned into a Bigfoot. The legend ends that the army captured him and took him away and he was never seen again. And what's interesting is, you know, pre-World War II, there used to be all these military bases in these rural areas in Western Alaska,

• 56:27Speaker 06

Northern Alaska. They just had massive army bases. Just because, you know, it was post-World War II and, you know, getting closer to the Cold War in the 60s. And we didn't have as big of an air force and like the, now we don't need all those bases because we just have these massive air force bases. But back then, we had all these army bases, but since things have changed, once highways were built, they abandoned a lot of them. And so now you've just got these, you know, abandoned bases in a lot of these areas.

• 57:06Speaker 06

But there used to be a huge military presence and supposedly the military did discover, you know, that Sasquatch from southwest Alaska and took it away and people never saw it again. So a lot of strange stories from that region, too.

• 57:24Wes Germer?

What do you personally think Sasquatch is, Chuk?

• 57:28Speaker 06

You know, I I'm a little bit mixed. I think in some areas, I get it that there's the American primate camp, that it's just a flesh and blood creature. And I do believe that they could, some of these areas are just so hard to get to, that something could survive undetected if it was smart, because there are some areas, you know, when I used to go out with my uncle on a boat, we'd go over these, you know, glacial fjords and drive by these cliffs. And, you know, we took this trip from Homer to Seward, went around in between Kodiak, all these straits,

• 58:09Speaker 06

and my uncle would point at the cliffs and say, you see that? No, no human can get there. It's just not possible. There's, there's no beach to land a boat. It's just straight jagged cliffs coming straight up from the ocean, and then just these massive, thick trees. The only way a human could get there would be like if you took a Black Hop helicopter, and you know, they'll, they'll go pretty far distances because they can refuel, and then, you know, lower somebody down on a rope where they could get on top of one of those cliffs. That is

• 58:49Speaker 06

literally the only way. Or if there's a nearby lake, you could land a float plane on a lake, but sometimes, there's nothing like that in these big areas. So you literally cannot get to these places. So there are places that are, and even if you could get there, you'd be very difficult to move around. It's just so thick. So I do believe that, you know, a flesh and blood creature can, can survive in some of these areas, just because we can't even get there. It's just, the terrain is just so rough. But on the other hand, I do believe there's

• 59:28Speaker 06

something mysterious going on with Bigfoot, just because mainly of the tribal legends. So I'm a part in Yupiak, which is from northern Alaska. But we just have many, many tribes,

• 59:46Speaker 06

All of them have stories. I I interviewed one native lady and asked her, you know, does does every tribe have a story? And and she told me, you know, I haven't met a tribe that doesn't have a story or know of some kind of wild man. So we've got those oral traditions going back hundreds, even thousands of years. And then there's just this mysterious element. We've got reports of, you know, the the orbs and of course Bigfoot vanishing or glowing red eyes or showing up in your dreams. There's just something really odd. So we we take these encounters and then you take the,

• 1:00:30Speaker 06

you know, the legends of of certain tribes. And I I just think that there's something mysterious where some of them could be some kind of interdimensional creature or have some kind of cloaking ability. And when you when it comes to southeast Alaska, that's where the panhandle that's kind of bordering British Columbia and some areas. You know, those tribes, you have the Klinkit, the Haida, the Shimsian. They have a very rich history of hairy man or Sasquatch like creature, but they're very protective of of their culture. So a lot of that stuff they they will not share.

• 1:01:15Speaker 06

And, you know, you couldn't even see some of the totem pole carvings with the creature on it. But it's very steeped into the culture. You know, they have their own kind of rituals and they're very protective of it. So that's something that, you know, the general public may not know about. But then when you get farther north into Alaska, there's just all kinds of.

• 1:01:42Speaker 06

Legends and people may be more open about to talk about it, that the shapeshifting legend is huge up here because a lot of the tribes that, you know, pre-contact, they had shamans, which were these, you know, shamanic spiritual leaders and the shaman, you know, when they became a shaman, they had to make a choice to be good or bad. And one of the abilities of shamans is to shapeshift. And so we've got these ivory carvings that are very ancient tradition. I've taken a bunch of pictures and footage of these carvings where you've got men, half man, half wolf, half man, half bear, turning

• 1:02:26Speaker 06

into a seal, a whale, a bird. So these shamans were shapeshifters and that's kind of where you get into more, kind of the evil territory, I think. So there's just all kinds of things. So, yeah, I think that there are some flesh and blood Sasquatch in certain areas and then other areas. I think just something really strange is going on with sort of an interdimensional twist, if that makes sense.

• 1:02:55Wes Germer?

Yeah, I noticed that too, Chuk, when I was talking to some of the local natives that are here and also in the Southwest and even some First Nations in Canada, they all do kind of have a weird side to Bigfoot. It sounds very paranormal. Once you get past the big brother of the forest and they start really going into it, it makes you wonder what Sasquatch is and what is this weird stuff people are reporting. And I really appreciate you coming on. I hope people go and check out your YouTube channel, Chuk's Outdoor Adventure. And you cover Bigfoot. I actually watched one of the expeditions

• 1:03:37Wes Germer?

on there. And you cover even bear attacks and just things out there in the outdoors. So I hope people go and subscribe and check it out. Chuk's Outdoor Adventure. And I'll include a link underneath this episode. And again, Chuk, I really appreciate you coming on. I enjoyed chatting with you.

• 1:03:58Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah, appreciate it too. And check out the Alaska Bigfoot Gallery. He's got a Facebook page. Rob does pictures, kind of forensic digital art of Bigfoot. And then Beans Baxter writes books and he's got the Alaskwatch podcast on YouTube and everything. So yeah, I appreciate it.

• 1:04:21Wes Germer?

Thanks again, Juke. And that's it for tonight, everyone. Remember, if you've had an encounter, shoot me an email. My email address is [email protected]. If you get a chance, check out sasquatchchronicles.com. You can become a member and get additional shows. Until next time, everyone.
