• 0:00Chris Williamson?

It is Life Hacks 109. I am telling you, man, this episode is gonna be sick, yeah?

• 0:09Jonny?

I don't think mine are better.

• 0:10Chris Williamson?

  Well, mine?

• 0:11Jonny?

  They're more organised.

• 0:12Chris Williamson?

  Mine are fucking mint.

• 0:13Speaker 02

  Mine are new.

• 0:14Chris Williamson?

I have got so many fucking good life hacks here.

• 0:18Jonny?

So I love sandwiches. I just think sandwiches are God's gift. Youssef's witnessed what I do to sandwiches.

• 0:25Speaker 02

Okay, you would be banned from Pornhub. What, what, what, Tony does sandwiches, like, it wouldn't even be?

• 0:30Chris Williamson?

But yoghurt to me is a non-savory ketchup.

• 0:36Chris Williamson?

  It's a garnish?

• 0:37Jonny?

Yeah, that's the closest I've ever felt to like a religious pulling towards a belief, like yoghurt is a savoury ketchup.

• 0:47Jonny?

I just have this feeling like I'm being bombarded with media that's just telling me that like the next 10 years is gonna be fucking shit.

• 0:57Chris Williamson?

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back and joined by none other than Johnny and Youssef from PropaneFitness.com.

• 1:03Jonny?

  Hi, Youssef.

• 1:04Chris Williamson?

It is Life Hacks 109, tools, approaches, apps and products for a productive and efficient life. And this episode is brought to you by The Protein Works. Thank you very much to The Protein Works for sponsoring this episode. We are massive fans of steel shakers. If you haven't transformed your life and your training by moving from plastic to steel, you have to. Much more durable.

• 1:26Speaker 02

  Life-changing.

• 1:26Chris Williamson?

Unbelievable. They're giving away five for free. All that you need to do is share this episode. Post it on your socials, put it in a group chat, however you want to, and then either show me the screenshot by DMing me or tag me in your share and I'll pick five people to win one of these and yeah, they'll post them out.

• 1:44Jonny?

Between us, we've used a lot of protein shakers.

• 1:47Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:47Jonny?

  And it's like...

• 1:48Chris Williamson?

But this, you only need one. You only need one.

• 1:50Speaker 02

Oh, it's beautiful. Nothing worse than you leave a plastic protein shaker behind the car seat overnight.

• 1:56Jonny?

In your, like, in your gym bag.

• 1:57Chris Williamson?

I mean, it doesn't fix, the metal protein shaker doesn't fix that problem.

• 2:01Jonny?

  Does it not?

• 2:03Chris Williamson?

It's easier to wash it a hundred percent. Um, and it's nice. It catches a little bit of condensation on the out of it when, uh, outside of it when it's cool.

• 2:10Jonny?

So that's what I like the most about it is you pick it up.

• 2:12Chris Williamson?

  Fuck, that's cold.

• 2:13Jonny?

It just feels cold and it's, you know, like mid-training session or after-training session, that's just, you don't want like, like lukewarm plastic. You want cold, man.

• 2:20Speaker 02

Plastic warms it up, doesn't it? It's, and it tastes the plastic.

• 2:23Jonny?

There's also just something, you, you feel like a, like a kid at an industry drinking out of plastic, don't you? There's a little like red, red cups with you squashing.

• 2:29Speaker 02

You got the little bottles of milk and it was milk, but it like, you had the milk monitor and they would come around and.

• 2:33Chris Williamson?

So, yeah, anyway, if you want to win, if you want to win one, uh, just share the episode, tag me in the share, at Chris Will X on all social media. Al- also, before I forget, um, people on YouTube, links to everything we're talking about will be in the show notes below. But if you follow the links, you will be supporting the podcast at no extra cost to yourself because we are on the Amazon affiliate scheme. Thank you. So, yeah, on to life hacks. We've prepped quite hard for this episode, so we have got some motherfuckers. I am telling you, man, this episode is gonna be sick, yeah?

• 3:08Jonny?

I don't think mine are better.

• 3:11Chris Williamson?

  Mine are fucking mint.

• 3:13Speaker 02

  Mine are new.

• 3:15Chris Williamson?

Yours aren't the same. Okay, so I'm gonna go first.

• 3:17Jonny?

  They're new.

• 3:18Chris Williamson?

Yeah. Uh, I am going to go first and first one is when you take a screenshot on iPhone.

• 3:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 3:25Chris Williamson?

The corners of the screen, when the screenshot pops up, you can just press on the screenshot, open it out. And you'll see on the outside, you have the frame where you can pull the crop in.

• 3:38Jonny?

  Yep.

• 3:39Chris Williamson?

So you can crop naturally from there. So I didn't know that you couldn't just, you, you didn't just have to go back into photo editor afterwards. Take a screenshot. So do it now. Uh, take screenshot on your phone and then if you press on the picture and then the corners of the image, you can pull down and crop from there. So you can zoom in, you can zoom it as a square, you can just take particular areas out of it. So you don't actually need to. There you go.

• 4:02Jonny?

I also did a little line by accident.

• 4:04Chris Williamson?

  Oh, you've drawn on it.

• 4:05Jonny?

  But that's okay.

• 4:05Chris Williamson?

But yeah, I mean, game changer. There we go. Right, Johnny, hot potato.

• 4:09Jonny?

Hot potato. I'm now just gonna undo my.

• 4:12Chris Williamson?

  Oh, you've wrecked it.

• 4:13Jonny?

  This is a banger.

• 4:14Chris Williamson?

  Is it?

• 4:15Jonny?

Proper banger. Well, at least it is for me, so.

• 4:18Chris Williamson?

Ladies, prepare. Is it for ladies?

• 4:21Jonny?

It's not for ladies. I mean, it can be.

• 4:22Chris Williamson?

  Okay, cool.

• 4:23Jonny?

If that's what you want, so.

• 4:24Chris Williamson?

Why not for the ladies, Johnny?

• 4:26Jonny?

  Cause I'm, no, um.

• 4:31Jonny?

So I order a lot of coffee shop coffee, okay? And I've come to the conclusion that in my humble and correct opinion, filter coffee is the best thing to order, right? Dean, V M D agrees with me, um, or V G D, depending on your preference. So filter coffee, so people order like Americano or whatever, like if you want a coffee with milk, right? Order a filter coffee. Now, there are two scenarios when you order a filter coffee. One is that there is filter coffee in the machine. Great, winning, fantastic. The second is that they've run out of filter coffee. What are we to do? Well, what they almost always offer to do is to make you an Americano, which is more expensive for the same price.

• 5:16Chris Williamson?

  Interesting. So what places?

• 5:18Jonny?

  Just never order an Americano.

• 5:19Chris Williamson?

What places do a filter coffee?

• 5:22Jonny?

  Starbucks.

• 5:23Chris Williamson?

  Right.

• 5:23Jonny?

Not Cafe Nero, Pret a Panje, and some Costas. They're rolling it out in Costa.

• 5:29Chris Williamson?

Okay, like Whosburn Coffee Company will do it as well, but they'll always be prepped.

• 5:33Jonny?

  Do they?

• 5:34Chris Williamson?

Yeah, I'm pretty certain they will do, yeah.

• 5:35Jonny?

So just a filter coffee is the cheapest coffee on the menu, al- al- also almost always the nicest. And if they don't have it, you just get a more expensive coffee for the same price.

• 5:42Chris Williamson?

  Free upsell.

• 5:43Jonny?

  Free upsell.

• 5:44Chris Williamson?

  Awesome. I love it. Yusuf.

• 5:46Speaker 02

Very good. Speaking of drinks, I'm heartbroken. I I brought these guys some kombucha.

• 5:50Jonny?

  Where is it?

• 5:52Speaker 02

Which is, um, fermented, fermented tea, and I'm seeing three bottles almost full.

• 5:57Jonny?

So just to be clear, I've drank out of that one.

• 6:00Chris Williamson?

Yeah, as you can see, the seal, the seal on this has been broken, as is mine, but the top has been placed very firmly back on. Because this carbonated vinegar piss of Satan is not coming back out of the.

• 6:14Speaker 02

A big crate of expensive kombucha and I thought, you know what, I'm gonna.

• 6:17Chris Williamson?

The only saving grace, only, only saving grace about this entire thing.

• 6:23Chris Williamson?

Three pounds each, that's a hundred pounds. Two pounds. Two pounds, so like seventy pounds of kombucha. Only saving grace about this whole thing. I'm gonna have to drink it now. It's nice. If you have a look right there, that's actually, the Modern Wisdom logo is on the, on the lid of it. Um, but yeah, okay, so it's not kombucha.

• 6:41Speaker 02

So it's, it's not kombucha, but I'm on a gut health kick at the moment. We can, we can talk about that later. At the moment, you've heard us discuss Alfred at length, which is basically a way to get you away from your trackpad, away from your mouse and fully into your keyboard. I have gone a step further recently and there are two apps that I'm using, Vimium and Shortcut. Both of these.

• 7:06Chris Williamson?

These are so bean on there.

• 7:08Speaker 02

These are very hard. So what, what these allow you to do is never need to use the trackpad again. Now, you might think, well, it's only a few centimetres away, why, why wouldn't I use, but, um.

• 7:20Chris Williamson?

  Do you move?

• 7:20Speaker 02

The trackpad, yeah, if your hands are just on the keyboard, you're locked in, you're doing work, you, you type in, you're doing stuff, you're focused. Soon as you start using the trackpad, it always leads down a horrible garden path to naughty.

• 7:33Chris Williamson?

  YouTube videos.

• 7:34Speaker 02

YouTube video, which whatever it is, you're just scrolling.

• 7:36Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 7:36Speaker 02

So this forces you to, so what, what this does, and it's quicker as well when you use Shortcut and Vimium. These are the same app, but one is for, specific to a web browser and one is for the general. In fact, Apple, and I'll bring in art, this in the native version of Catalina, the new macOS in November or October.

• 7:56Chris Williamson?

  Interesting.

• 7:57Speaker 02

So, but they're bringing it up specifically for disabled people and voice activated control, but you can do it with your keyboard. What it does is anything that's possibly clickable on your screen, suddenly ha- has a letter assigned to it, a letter or two letters. So you press like the special key and it goes, and then you just, so like F A is close the thing, B M is minimize this and C D would be click on this link or whatever. And so suddenly you just, the sensation is incredible because it, it feels like more and more you're just at one with your device and there's no gaps and faffing around with trying to access what, it, it's the polar opposite to when you ask your, when you see your mum Googling something.

• 8:41Chris Williamson?

  Single finger.

• 8:42Speaker 02

Single finger and she's typing H T T P into the Google search bar. And then move the mouse over.

• 8:50Chris Williamson?

And she'll capitalize letters by pressing the caps lock on and off. Yeah, yeah.

• 8:55Jonny?

Do you ever worry that you are breaking your laptop?

• 9:02Chris Williamson?

Well, you've done, you have broken your laptop.

• 9:04Jonny?

Did you, I'm, I'm not saying you are, I'm just saying, does it, does it concern, do you, you ever think? Maybe this is a bit much.

• 9:09Chris Williamson?

These jailbroken apps coming out of Basra.

• 9:14Speaker 02

It's not assistant tweets, it's not, it's not a jail, there, there are some that I, I've been like, I'd love that, but I don't wanna.

• 9:18Chris Williamson?

Didn't you? Didn't you use the migration assistant to back up your, to, to restore your new laptop from your old laptop? And your new laptop inherited some of the problems that your old laptop had.

• 9:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, it did.

• 9:31Chris Williamson?

So there was something, there was something chronic and pathological about your last lap laptop.

• 9:36Speaker 02

  There was.

• 9:36Chris Williamson?

Which has now been passed down.

• 9:38Speaker 02

None of those things make it to life hacks.

• 9:41Speaker 02

They're all in the experimental phase. Don't worry, Vimium and.

• 9:44Jonny?

The, the trouble is that we don't know what those things are.

• 9:47Speaker 02

Yeah, but we, we don't need.

• 9:48Chris Williamson?

  So we may step on.

• 9:50Jonny?

Cause what if that thing? Is Alfred? That would be the biggest nasty twit, twit plot twist.

• 9:57Chris Williamson?

  They've just, they've just released four point O. So Vimium, V I M E U M.

• 10:01Jonny?

I've been told to wait for four point O Alfred.

• 10:04Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 10:04Chris Williamson?

  V I M E U M.

• 10:06Speaker 02

  V I M I U M.

• 10:07Chris Williamson?

  I U M and shortcut.

• 10:09Speaker 02

Yeah, these are tools that are designed for coders and programmers who just, they just have their lives correct. They've just got it right.

• 10:16Chris Williamson?

It's a good way to look, like, um, designing for the extremes often means that when you dial that back, it's, it's still effective, right? We all want a little bit more.

• 10:25Jonny?

It's like Formula One, isn't it?

• 10:26Chris Williamson?

Yeah, sure. Uh, okay, so, um, hold on to the bottom of the steering wheel in a crash. This is something that's taken from NASCAR drivers. So I was listening to a Joe Rogan podcast from maybe a year ago. And he was talking to a very famous NASCAR driver, his dad had been a NASCAR driver and this and the other, actually talking about concussion. For quite a while, cause they suffer with it super bad. These, they're absolutely. Locked in to these cars, right? The seats molded around them essentially and their twenty five point harness and all this stuff. Uh but yeah, so they were talking about the fact that he rolled his truck. Um, remembering this guy essentially crashes cars for a living, um, and he rolled his truck just on normal streets.

• 11:10Chris Williamson?

So he's driving along, like, I think it's Christmas Day, perhaps, even going to his, like, family's house or something like that, rolled his truck on some ice. As the cars rolling, he forgot the first rule, as far as he was concerned, of being in a spinning car. Which is hold the bottom of the steering wheel and his arms, as soon as you start to spin, your arms will go. You'll be like the Team America signal, you know? Yeah, so your arms will just start flailing everywhere. And he was saying he had the window open, so he had his, uh, the, uh, window of his big truck open. Car starts rolling, like sausage rolling sideways, and his arm goes out of the window, out of the open window. And then he pulls it back in just before the car lands on that side.

• 11:53Chris Williamson?

So you've got to think, if this car's spinning around and your arms are flailing everywhere, the chance of your arm getting crushed, pretty high. Holding on to the bottom of the steering wheel, so gripping the bottom like that.

• 12:03Jonny?

  Grip bench press.

• 12:03Chris Williamson?

Reverse grip bench press, yeah. I mean, you could go mixed grip, but, um, you know. It's a short, short endurance, but yeah, holding the bottom apparently locks all your organs in a lot more, keeps your arms in tight.

• 12:13Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 12:14Chris Williamson?

  Very secure.

• 12:15Jonny?

  You feel very safe.

• 12:15Chris Williamson?

Crazy secure. So practise it now, if you're listening at home.

• 12:17Jonny?

  I'm worried I'll tear a bicep.

• 12:19Chris Williamson?

List- listening at home, just imagine.

• 12:20Jonny?

Better than arm out the window.

• 12:21Chris Williamson?

Hold on to the bottom of the steering wheel, or if you're driving, just try it now, hold on to the bottom of the steering wheel, feel how secure you feel.

• 12:26Jonny?

Within the confines of driving safely on the road.

• 12:28Chris Williamson?

Yeah, still, I mean, ten in two for the most part, but if you're stationary, you can go kind of like a half five and a half six.

• 12:35Jonny?

Just in case there's a crash.

• 12:36Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 12:37Jonny?

Yeah. Cause surely then also always drive like that.

• 12:42Chris Williamson?

  Just in case.

• 12:43Jonny?

Then you're always ready. The trouble is, a guy who crashes professionally for a living, has the, the moment of clarity in a collision to go.

• 12:51Chris Williamson?

If you think about it now, like, I was, I was considering this the other day, you're totally right, like, you need to drill, holding on to the bottom of the steering wheel.

• 12:57Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 12:57Chris Williamson?

Which means being in lots of car crashes.

• 12:59Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 13:00Chris Williamson?

Which is obviously unadvisable. However, I've thought, like, if I was ever in a car crash, I think. After a, maybe a second of spinning, I'd be like, right, fuck.

• 13:09Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 13:10Chris Williamson?

Hold the bottom of the steering wheel.

• 13:11Jonny?

I am in an accident. I am having an accident.

• 13:13Chris Williamson?

  Fucking shit, yeah.

• 13:14Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 13:15Chris Williamson?

Uh, if anyone's got any advice about how to brace and stuff like, so I've been in a couple of car crashes where I've known the impact was coming and I don't know the uh, theory behind whether or not you should brace, relax, do whatever, like, I don't know that. So if anyone knows, tell us.

• 13:33Jonny?

Um, you should put the clip of the Cali Siret and a fighter jet video.

• 13:38Chris Williamson?

  Brilliant.

• 13:39Jonny?

Just go full Valsalva, like full ab tension.

• 13:43Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 13:44Jonny?

But yeah, I know what you mean. Like, are you more likely to

• 13:46Chris Williamson?

  Injure yourself.

• 13:47Jonny?

  Do a mischief.

• 13:48Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 13:48Jonny?

Because you're so like ripping up or something.

• 13:50Chris Williamson?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Have a like hernia, like.

• 13:53Jonny?

They, they tested, um, did you ever see that thing on Channel Four where they crashed a plane? Like they crashed a real plane into the desert, but they had loads of crash dummies in it and they split tested. Brilliant. Split tested, sitting upright or sitting in the brace position.

• 14:06Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 14:06Jonny?

If you sit upright, you hit the seat, concuss yourself and you just burn. While you're concussed and don't know what's happening. If you brace, you snap your ankles, but you're conscious.

• 14:19Chris Williamson?

Why do you snap your ankles?

• 14:20Jonny?

Because if the, the force goes down through your ankles, you're gonna crack.

• 14:24Speaker 02

You don't have to get like

• 14:25Jonny?

Conscious, but can't get out of the plane.

• 14:27Chris Williamson?

  Motherfucker.

• 14:27Jonny?

  Swings around about.

• 14:28Chris Williamson?

You know what you need there? A lot of upper body strength. Shit, big bench.

• 14:33Chris Williamson?

What, so you crash, you're like, rip the seat out in front of you, but you're fine.

• 14:37Jonny?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 14:38Speaker 02

So a quick fact about that, it makes me really furious is, um, there, there was a recent plane crash where I can't remember where it was, but the, the plane landed in some water, it was on fire. People at the front managed to get out, people at the back didn't get out in time and died. It was in the news like a few weeks ago. Um, and the reason that the people at the back couldn't get out is because the people at the front were trying to take their luggage off.

• 15:02Jonny?

  Oh my god.

• 15:03Chris Williamson?

  Jesus fucking Christ.

• 15:04Jonny?

  Oh my god.

• 15:05Speaker 02

It makes me so angry, but um, I don't know what the uh, moral of that story is.

• 15:09Chris Williamson?

Excuse me mate, I've just got me duty free. In the back, I've got a, I've got a, a, a two hundred sleeve of Benson and Hedges. Uh, menthol.

• 15:18Speaker 02

In the sea, like it's gonna be in the sea.

• 15:21Jonny?

The thing that worries me the most about situations like that is not me, it's the people I'm with.

• 15:27Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 15:27Jonny?

Because I feel like all I would do in practice is just push.

• 15:30Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 15:31Jonny?

  Very hard.

• 15:32Chris Williamson?

  I mean.

• 15:32Jonny?

Like angle down and then go.

• 15:34Chris Williamson?

Do you know what, do you know what you're really good at doing?

• 15:37Jonny?

  Pushing.

• 15:38Speaker 02

  And pulling.

• 15:40Jonny?

Technically a deadlift to push, if you think about it.

• 15:42Speaker 02

Push the floor, push away. I mean, as far as the IPF, like.

• 15:46Jonny?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 15:47Speaker 02

If you go for a push pull competition.

• 15:49Jonny?

  Ah, yes.

• 15:49Speaker 02

But then you're supposed to tell you the bench presses, though. The pull.

• 15:54Chris Williamson?

Touching it's raws here. Right, Johnny, you're up.

• 15:56Jonny?

This is a, a, a change in tack, but uh, get a Toastie machine.

• 16:02Chris Williamson?

All right, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. So. Like a George Foreman for bread.

• 16:06Jonny?

For bread. So I love sandwiches. I just think sandwiches are God's gift of food.

• 16:13Speaker 02

And half thickness bagels as well.

• 16:14Jonny?

I'm half thickness bagels. You just witnessed what I do to sandwiches. They don't stand much of a chance.

• 16:20Speaker 02

Like, you would be banned from Pornhub. You're trying to do sandwiches, like, it wouldn't even be.

• 16:26Chris Williamson?

Aryan hunk destroys double, double white fucking.

• 16:33Jonny?

But so, cause you, you think like toasted sandwich, like that's something that's reserved for, you know, if you're in a, somewhere that, that makes them. But I can't help my home. What, I mean, what, think how boundless your fun can be.

• 16:45Chris Williamson?

So I want a couple of bits of info from you here.

• 16:48Jonny?

  Okay.

• 16:48Chris Williamson?

I want the Toastie machine that you use and I want.

• 16:51Jonny?

  So that is important.

• 16:51Chris Williamson?

I want your top two toasty recipes, including prep.

• 16:55Jonny?

Okay, so the first Toastie machine I bought shorted the circuitry in the house.

• 17:00Chris Williamson?

Sounds like a good toasty. I want that.

• 17:02Jonny?

Well, so the, so the thing is, so you'll think, you look at the Toastie machine lineup and they're always in like, cause they're not very common, cause not many people have them.

• 17:08Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 17:08Jonny?

They're always in the corner of the shop and there'll be like a fifteen quid one.

• 17:12Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 17:12Jonny?

A thirty quid one and then like a ninety five quid one. So you get the ninety five quid one, you think like, it's just fucking toasted bread.

• 17:18Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 17:19Jonny?

Like it's hot bread with bits in.

• 17:21Speaker 02

Did you get the ninety five quid one?

• 17:22Jonny?

No, no, I got the, I got the cheapest one. You'd be proud of me. I got, I got the cheapest one.

• 17:25Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 17:26Speaker 02

  Well, then progressive.

• 17:26Jonny?

  Shorted the house.

• 17:29Jonny?

  And you, you think like.

• 17:30Chris Williamson?

Was this Argos? I bet Argos have loads.

• 17:33Jonny?

  It was Argos. Yeah.

• 17:35Chris Williamson?

Isn't that like the first thing you think of?

• 17:37Jonny?

When you, when you think about it, I need to get a like basic kitchen appliance, Argos.

• 17:41Speaker 02

I, I always go for the mid-range ki- kitchen appliance for anything.

• 17:44Jonny?

Well, so that's the lesson. Go for the mid-range one.

• 17:46Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 17:47Jonny?

Um, the interesting thing about it is you have to butter the bread from the outside.

• 17:53Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 17:54Jonny?

So you can't butter the inside of the sandwich.

• 17:56Speaker 02

  Why?

• 17:56Jonny?

So we only can, but it would just melt.

• 17:59Speaker 02

Moist on the outside and it'll stick to the thing. So you've got to create like.

• 18:02Jonny?

The biggest problem. Lubricate. Biggest problem with a toast machine is the bread sticking to the hot plate. So you.

• 18:09Speaker 02

Could you use oil spray in the surface of the?

• 18:11Jonny?

You could. Then you're gonna have oily bread. Yeah, because what what makes the toasty. Oh, I've just got a new one. Like nice and and browned and golden is is the butter.

• 18:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 18:21Jonny?

Um, fillings, I've found so far, actually, the more creative you are with this, it just comes back to bite you. Like, there is a reason why a ham and cheese toasty is so highly circulated.

• 18:33Speaker 02

  With some failed fillings.

• 18:34Jonny?

So eh, don't add anything, like any sauce stuff at all.

• 18:39Speaker 02

I imagine mayonnaise would be awful.

• 18:40Jonny?

Oh, God, because it just goes, it like separates into its component parts.

• 18:44Speaker 02

  Egg.

• 18:44Jonny?

Yeah. Is it like refining oil? Yeah, it's mingling, like obviously no, like tomato and things like that. Tomato. Because, so the other thing is the tomato, you've got to really clamp down on it. So you put the, you put the thing, you put. Again, what is it? What's the solution? Push? Well, yeah, well, actually, it's a pinch. You don't get on top of it? No, no, well, you'll snap it. They're not, they're not. So you put the bread in. And you you you you do the thing like what I do with most things that you think might require a bit of force, but you don't want to break it. So you go like. Just feel it, your tension, feel the tension. It's quite a bit of, because obviously I I overfill them, that's why. So I put too much filling in.

• 19:21Speaker 02

  And you go.

• 19:21Jonny?

  Duck. It's.

• 19:24Jonny?

So I'm like, I like grab it and I'm like, you squeeze it once, like, no, it's not gonna close. And then you think, well, I could remove filling.

• 19:36Jonny?

You manage to get the clip on, turn it on, you have house in short success. And then there the the their own, the level of advancement they have is two lights, green and red. Right? So so there's there's no.

• 19:50Speaker 02

The ninety five will have a full rainbow.

• 19:51Jonny?

Well, it's exactly, this one has, there's no dials, there's no, there's an on switch and then a green light and a red light. And somehow they've decided that they know the time for all toasties to be toasted. Universal toasty. Universal toasty time. So the light's red and then it goes green, but because it's like, it'd be like. I wanna say like a minute and forty five seconds, you get a bit distracted and you look at it and realise.

• 20:18Chris Williamson?

  There's no sound.

• 20:18Jonny?

  No.

• 20:19Chris Williamson?

  No buzzer.

• 20:19Jonny?

No, no, there's no, no notification. You have to literally stare at it, so you.

• 20:23Chris Williamson?

  This is so fucking primitive.

• 20:25Jonny?

And then you look, you look at it and it's, it's like being green for thirty seconds and it's like.

• 20:29Chris Williamson?

But it's like bubbling out of the side, cheese is going all over the place.

• 20:33Jonny?

  But yeah, ham and cheese.

• 20:34Chris Williamson?

  What, what ham?

• 20:35Jonny?

Wafer thin ham. I quite like um Lardama cheese. Have you had, had that before?

• 20:41Chris Williamson?

Is that the stuff with the holes in?

• 20:42Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 20:42Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 20:43Jonny?

  Bit sweet, bit.

• 20:44Chris Williamson?

  Yellow, yellow um packaging.

• 20:46Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 20:46Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 20:47Jonny?

  Um, but fucking delicious.

• 20:49Chris Williamson?

What Toastie machine? Cause I'm gonna have to link this on.

• 20:51Jonny?

  I think it's, I think it's Breville.

• 20:54Chris Williamson?

See. Yeah, Breville sandwich maker sounds like a legitimate.

• 20:57Speaker 02

From your description, I don't know if I would buy that model. It's just too much of a jump. With a buzz or a.

• 21:04Jonny?

  No.

• 21:05Speaker 02

Like my egg boiler shouts, shouts at me when I.

• 21:07Jonny?

I think that's because that's quite important that it, but it does that though.

• 21:11Speaker 02

I think no more, because nothing can go on fire, it just.

• 21:13Jonny?

It just ruins the egg. Like if, if, if you toast a toasty for slightly too long, you get a bit, the, the bread's a bit browned.

• 21:20Speaker 02

But wouldn't, but if you left it for ages, wouldn't the bread go on fire eventually?

• 21:23Jonny?

If you leave it for ages. That's like if you, if you leave the oven on for too long.

• 21:26Speaker 02

  Well.

• 21:27Jonny?

You know, there's no, there's no alarm on the oven. But so I, like, they're brilliant, they're really cheap and i- if you are like looking for something to have, like if you'll have sandwiches in the house, just have toasties for god's sake.

• 21:38Chris Williamson?

It's a good point, man. I had last week, I had a refeed day and I was walking through Asda, looked, looked.

• 21:44Jonny?

  Buy birthday cake.

• 21:45Chris Williamson?

And so didn't buy birthday cake.

• 21:46Jonny?

  Have birthday cake, don't you?

• 21:47Chris Williamson?

Birthday cake. Um, and saw some extra large crumpets.

• 21:53Jonny?

  Ooh.

• 21:54Chris Williamson?

  Mate.

• 21:54Speaker 02

  How, how big?

• 21:56Jonny?

  They're like, they're like this, aren't they?

• 21:57Chris Williamson?

Yeah, pretty big, like almost, almost.

• 21:59Speaker 02

  Eat it.

• 21:59Chris Williamson?

  So, well.

• 22:02Speaker 02

  Frisbee.

• 22:02Chris Williamson?

So the way I, the way that I toasted mine was um, I had to put it in and then take the, both of them in. Then take the full things out, rotate hundred and eighty degrees, then put them back in and do the other side. But then, what I chose to do was have an extra thick, single side of butter and just.

• 22:22Speaker 02

One on top of the other.

• 22:24Jonny?

  Delicious.

• 22:25Speaker 02

Cause both ends, obviously the outside of a of a crumpet is the crustiest bit, right?

• 22:30Jonny?

And that's soft and gooey in the end.

• 22:31Speaker 02

Yeah, but it's two outsides, shitloads of butter, really salty butter. Oh my god.

• 22:37Jonny?

See, the downside of a Toastie machine is it can only be used for toasties because it the the plates are shaped like.

• 22:43Speaker 02

  A toasty.

• 22:44Jonny?

  Like crimps.

• 22:45Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 22:46Jonny?

Bit of bread and you know, like an A four bit of bread into into two, you know what I mean, don't you? Exactly what I mean, like A four white Warburtons bread into two.

• 22:55Speaker 02

  Best of both.

• 22:57Jonny?

So I I don't see, I use, actually, this is another tip, don't for fuck's sake use normal bread.

• 23:03Speaker 02

  Oh god.

• 23:04Jonny?

Okay. It's too thick. You need to buy thin, so just get like a um supermarket own brand toasty bread. Thin, it compresses more.

• 23:13Speaker 02

Interesting. I was wondering why toasty bread is called toasty bread.

• 23:17Jonny?

  It was more.

• 23:18Speaker 02

We get Danish as well, where it's like.

• 23:21Jonny?

Where like you lick it, it does all of your tongue. They're good, aren't they?

• 23:25Speaker 02

It's interesting about, you said about like the three price ranges, because I do think that applies to all kitchen appliances and I've got, I have a pressure cooker. In fact, have we discussed this on previous life hacks?

• 23:34Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 23:34Speaker 02

Okay, so you'll have known that my, I went from rice cooker to pressure cooker, hundred pounds, instant pot. There is one for about two thousand pounds that you can get.

• 23:44Jonny?

Is it come with a chef?

• 23:45Speaker 02

Yeah, I feel like it's it's like super.

• 23:48Jonny?

  There's a glory hole, isn't there?

• 23:49Speaker 02

The the yeah, there must be some some business going on there, but.

• 23:53Jonny?

  Remove the carrot and.

• 23:54Speaker 02

  Penis cooker.

• 23:57Speaker 02

So today, my life hack is something that I think the three of us need to start doing.

• 24:04Jonny?

  Oh god, okay.

• 24:04Speaker 02

  Which is.

• 24:05Jonny?

Is this counselling? Is someone gonna have a pillow?

• 24:07Speaker 02

  No.

• 24:07Jonny?

I'd be it for, I'd be it for that.

• 24:09Speaker 02

  Counselling.

• 24:09Jonny?

  Well, like, not.

• 24:12Speaker 02

Our coach, yeah, our our coach was like, everyone needs to do counselling at some point, but um doodle pole.

• 24:20Speaker 02

  So. Yeah.

• 24:22Chris Williamson?

  What is it?

• 24:23Speaker 02

  This is, this is when.

• 24:24Chris Williamson?

  Say the word again.

• 24:25Speaker 02

This is when you doodle poll. This is when you've got, you've got between three people. You're all like, oh, we need to do a thing on Tuesday. Oh, no, I can't, I can't do Tuesday, but I can do Tuesday morning. No, I can't because I've got, okay, how about Thursday? I've said, man, I can't do Thursday. And you end up having this like long conversation to try and organise a date. Whereas doodle poll gets, you, you all get sent out a list of times. You tick the ones that you can do and then it collates and finds the overlaps and it says.

• 24:56Chris Williamson?

  Like Calendly.

• 24:58Speaker 02

Similar to, so Calendly is like a booking service for two people.

• 25:02Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 25:02Speaker 02

Whereas doodle poll, if you're like organising a stag do or something.

• 25:05Chris Williamson?

So I used it for, for a stag do.

• 25:07Speaker 02

  Did you?

• 25:08Chris Williamson?

Epic. That is awesome. Is there a referral code? Is it free?

• 25:11Speaker 02

  It's free.

• 25:12Chris Williamson?

It's free up to like a certain number of.

• 25:14Speaker 02

  Oh, okay.

• 25:14Chris Williamson?

Users or something. Yeah. Okay, just make, and then just make a new email.

• 25:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 25:18Chris Williamson?

That's awesome. That's a fucking really good one.

• 25:20Speaker 02

  Good service.

• 25:21Chris Williamson?

Right, uh, woo, right. Oh, well, this one, this one's a fucking game changer if you don't know about it. Um, share, auto-share your Instagram story to your Facebook story. This is the most free gains that I'm ever gonna give you on life hacks, right? It's the equivalent free gains is wearing knee sleeves to squat.

• 25:42Speaker 02

  Hmm, getting a belt.

• 25:43Chris Williamson?

Um, so if you are on your phone, if you don't know what I'm talking about, go on your phone, go on Instagram, swipe, uh, right, so that you open up your Instagram story.

• 25:56Chris Williamson?

Little button at the bottom that is, uh, story settings, setting story settings, and then scroll right to the bottom. And there's just a little nonchalant toggle that says, share story to Facebook. That allows you to automatically share whatever you put on your Instagram story on your Facebook story. And no one, no one actually looks after the Facebook story because who gives a fuck about Facebook stories? However, I have about fifteen thousand followers in, uh, between friends and followers on mine. And I'm getting just over a thousand views on Facebook.

• 26:31Speaker 02

Because Facebook are desperate for the open race, so.

• 26:33Chris Williamson?

They need it, yes, so they're driving, they're driving it really hard. And it'll auto pull through polls. So if you put a poll on Instagram, it'll it it bring the um ability across. One thing it doesn't do, which is slightly frustrating, especially for what a lot of people in marketing will do, is it doesn't transfer across swipe ups because you can't swipe up on Facebook to go to a link, which is a little bit annoying. So a lot of the time I'll be like, here's a new podcast or whatever.

• 26:56Speaker 02

  Like clickable or.

• 26:57Chris Williamson?

No, it just doesn't exist. It literally just got this thing at the bottom.

• 27:00Speaker 02

  That's stupid.

• 27:01Chris Williamson?

Yeah, a bit irritating, but some of this stuff works, like some of the polls work and some of the questions work and things. But it is the freest gains you're ever gonna get. And you can share, if you've, if you're on a business account, maybe if you're on a personal, but I doubt it. If you're on a business account, you can share it to a fan page. So our lads that are looking after our club nights, they'll be going around taking Instagram stories and stuff like that. But our fan pages are massive, all Club Night fan pages are massive because it's where the albums get uploaded to. And we're finding that when matching our Facebook, our Instagram reach on Facebook, um just through the stories, and you're already doing it. You're already recording the content and you, once you've pressed that button once, free games, man. The game changer, game changer. Johnny?

• 27:44Jonny?

So I have one that is, that will upset people. So I'm going to do this one initially, then I'll do a proper one.

• 27:51Speaker 02

Who's it gonna upset? Us or?

• 27:52Jonny?

I think, I think so. It is, it's a shit thing to do. It's a shit thing to do. And I think it'll upset people, especially people who care about the environment.

• 27:59Chris Williamson?

  Okay, okay, here we go.

• 28:04Jonny?

  So.

• 28:04Speaker 02

  Strap yourself.

• 28:05Jonny?

This, this, this works. I've tested that it works and I, I, I've observed it happen.

• 28:09Chris Williamson?

  Punch a cat.

• 28:10Jonny?

No, not punch a cat. Strangle a dolphin. Put your thumb in a dolphin's blowhole.

• 28:18Speaker 02

I bet they've got sufficient, I bet your thumb doesn't have enough girth to get in a blowhole.

• 28:21Jonny?

  You probably need to.

• 28:23Speaker 02

Imagine if you just strangle one.

• 28:26Jonny?

Yeah, although I feel like it could probably.

• 28:28Speaker 02

If I try to blow up a hot water bottle, and if you, if you let, if you let go for a minute, it.

• 28:33Jonny?

  Hot water. Really? Oh god.

• 28:36Chris Williamson?

You're gonna have to brace them.

• 28:37Jonny?

  Oh shit. I don't, I've.

• 28:39Speaker 02

Because there's so much resistance in them, like. Um but yeah, strangling a dolphin would also be quite hard, I think.

• 28:44Chris Williamson?

Difficult, yeah. You can't get it into.

• 28:46Speaker 02

  Where's its neck?

• 28:47Jonny?

Well, it's all neck, isn't it?

• 28:49Speaker 02

We discussed this about shark, didn't we? Yeah, yeah.

• 28:51Jonny?

  A big muscly neck.

• 28:52Speaker 02

  You're squeezing the big.

• 28:53Chris Williamson?

You can't get it in a, like a full Nelson or a half Nelson.

• 28:59Jonny?

I remember I had a a teacher at school that used to argue that everybody has their price for everything and he was adamant. Someone went, I disagree.

• 29:07Chris Williamson?

  Who was that?

• 29:12Jonny?

I'm not saying, but I bet you can guess.

• 29:14Chris Williamson?

Okay, can you do the voice?

• 29:17Jonny?

Right, okay. So he went, everyone has their price. Um, and someone went, no, like, I wouldn't, I wouldn't kill a puppy. And he went, I bet you would, I bet you would, you know.

• 29:29Jonny?

Ten million, ten million. And it was like, and he was like, would you strangle a dolphin? Would you kill a dolphin? Bet you would, bet you hundred million, I told you.

• 29:39Chris Williamson?

  Bullying children.

• 29:41Jonny?

It was, we were like six, four.

• 29:43Chris Williamson?

I fully agree with him. Everyone has their price for anything.

• 29:47Jonny?

  Going down a.

• 29:49Chris Williamson?

Anyway, to your, to your life hack.

• 29:50Jonny?

So you know how when you are in Sainsbury's, right? And you're getting something and you go to the till, but not self-service, go to the till and there's someone processing your shopping for you. And they say, would you like a bag? And you say, yes. And then they say, that'll be five P, is that okay? And you go, yes. If you want to avoid the five P charge. This is what is dick move. What you do is you wait for them to process the payment. And then you say, oh, can I have a bag, please? And they'll give you one for free.

• 30:29Jonny?

And they won't then set up a new transaction to process the five P because the processing fee would just erode the five P anyway.

• 30:36Chris Williamson?

Well, and they, they, they understand the back end processing fees.

• 30:40Jonny?

Well, no, no, but like, they're not gonna.

• 30:42Chris Williamson?

  Trickle down.

• 30:43Jonny?

There's a customer waiting, right? There's a customer waiting and you, you, or you're about to leave, you're about, and you're like.

• 30:48Chris Williamson?

This isn't a, this isn't a like ten P M on a Monday tactic, is it? When there's ten checkout operators, just you.

• 30:56Jonny?

  It during normal busy times.

• 30:59Chris Williamson?

It depends if there's a protocol that they've just told everyone blanket, like if someone asks for.

• 31:03Jonny?

I, I, I thought, so it happened one time, right? It happened one time to me and I was like, that was weird, she didn't charge me for the bag. And but it, it's a dick move because I understand why.

• 31:12Chris Williamson?

It's about the environment to do that.

• 31:13Jonny?

Well, but the, the whole point of that.

• 31:15Chris Williamson?

So it's better to have you in bags.

• 31:16Jonny?

Pigouvian tax, isn't it? Designed to offset the negative externalities of the plastic and the, so it's designed to discourage someone from getting a bag.

• 31:25Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 31:26Jonny?

What I'm doing is getting a bag anyway, I'm not.

• 31:28Chris Williamson?

And encouraging people publicly to do it.

• 31:30Jonny?

I'm just saying, so I'm saying, I found, I found it works, do with it what you will.

• 31:33Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 31:33Jonny?

You know, I don't think it's the right thing to do necessarily, but I've tested it since it happened the first time and it does still work.

• 31:39Chris Williamson?

The upgrade, the twat upgrade to that, oh, actually, this wouldn't, this wouldn't work, but I actually think that this is a better way to do what you talked about that.

• 31:48Jonny?

  Just kill a dolphin.

• 31:49Chris Williamson?

It's get a dolphin into a half Nelson, so you can get it in a half.

• 31:53Jonny?

  Big neck.

• 31:53Chris Williamson?

  One.

• 31:53Jonny?

And then grab like that and then.

• 31:57Chris Williamson?

Um, the solution is, my, my favorite thing is, you know, when they go, um, hi, would you like a bag? And go, say, yes.

• 32:05Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 32:06Chris Williamson?

Would you like a hand with your packing? Yes.

• 32:08Jonny?

  Really?

• 32:09Chris Williamson?

I just say, and if not, I just say, would you mind giving me a hand with my packing? Which is their, their own language used back at them, even though I actually think, especially as they might have cycled that out now. But it's just, you know, I mean, it's so ingrained in them. That's like the Russian trigger code. And they just immediately start packing your shit away and you can just do whatever you want.

• 32:27Jonny?

  Right.

• 32:27Chris Williamson?

If they are particularly surly, the solution, I do this, this is so bad. I believe you've brought this up and I've just opened this world of like malignant supermarket tactics.

• 32:39Chris Williamson?

So what I do is I'll pretend that there's something I've forgotten and just go off on a little walk.

• 32:44Jonny?

  Great.

• 32:45Chris Williamson?

  Ten minutes.

• 32:47Jonny?

Because then you have to stand and watch them.

• 32:48Chris Williamson?

And they'll put it in, I'm like, look, oh, fuck. Um, I, I'll just, I've just forgotten something. Would you mind just packing my bags while I go? Like an entire thing just lined up.

• 32:58Jonny?

If they're so surly that you come back and they go, where's the thing that you've forgotten?

• 33:01Chris Williamson?

No, they would do it themselves. Well, they're too late, they've already packed the bags.

• 33:05Jonny?

That's true, you can be like, oh, I didn't want any more.

• 33:07Chris Williamson?

  Don't fuck on me.

• 33:10Jonny?

There's a really funny, so Alan Partridge Scissor Isle, where he becomes a checkout lady for a day.

• 33:17Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 33:17Jonny?

Brilliant. You probably won't be able to get on YouTube, but that is brilliant.

• 33:20Chris Williamson?

Cool. Right, Seth, you got one?

• 33:22Speaker 02

I have. It's gonna get me in trouble.

• 33:24Chris Williamson?

Fine, but that one's just got Johnny in trouble.

• 33:25Jonny?

Yeah, I'm gonna get, I'm gonna get like picketers and, and the whole thing.

• 33:28Chris Williamson?

  Vegans.

• 33:29Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 33:30Jonny?

  Dolphin lovers.

• 33:31Speaker 02

I have found a way to schedule iMessages.

• 33:38Chris Williamson?

Wow. Apologies to use this girlfriend.

• 33:40Jonny?

  Fucking hell. Go on then.

• 33:43Speaker 02

So you go to Shortcuts, which used to be a third-party app that's now been acquired by Apple, and it is an iPhone.

• 33:50Chris Williamson?

  In your settings.

• 33:51Speaker 02

So you downloaded it from the App Store, but Apple have made it, and in the next iOS, it's gonna be.

• 33:56Chris Williamson?

  Shortcuts.

• 33:57Speaker 02

Shortcuts. It's gonna be the new, um, like, it's gonna be, yeah, like, one of the native bits of app. And it's a, it's an automation service for iPhone. What it allows you to do is, I'll give you a few examples of things that it can do.

• 34:13Jonny?

So all of the texts that I've sent Johnny over the past.

• 34:17Speaker 02

I wrote in two thousand and six.

• 34:18Chris Williamson?

The problem, the, the problem is obviously having to respond, because the only way that you can respond by scheduling is predicting the question.

• 34:25Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 34:25Speaker 02

But that, that's why you have to, all the texts are just, hmm, that's nice, that's interesting. I also think that.

• 34:31Jonny?

Oh god, this is getting, we're getting really down.

• 34:34Chris Williamson?

Is this like, is this like a chatbot, but just for you?

• 34:37Speaker 02

Just, yeah, you've just got to make your own.

• 34:38Jonny?

It's not actually a chatbot, it's just messages that Yusuf's typing.

• 34:41Speaker 02

Yeah. So sho- shortcuts, other things it can do, um, it can resume the latest book that you're listening to at.

• 34:49Jonny?

No one cares about that. Scheduling iMessages. How do you do it?

• 34:52Speaker 02

Schedule iMessage. It's just one of the shortcuts on there.

• 34:54Chris Williamson?

  Let me see.

• 34:54Speaker 02

You can add to Wonders list.

• 34:55Chris Williamson?

Let me see. You're not letting me see.

• 34:57Speaker 02

You, you can play the most.

• 34:59Chris Williamson?

  I can't see now.

• 35:00Speaker 02

You can play the most recent playlist, so, and also you can create a smart playlist.

• 35:04Chris Williamson?

Oh, is that a widget? Is that in your widget thing?

• 35:06Speaker 02

Yeah, so you just one tap and then it, so.

• 35:09Jonny?

So can you schedule, you schedule an iMessage to me for the next fi- in five minutes' time?

• 35:13Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 35:13Chris Williamson?

Cool. That's gonna be good. If it doesn't write in five minutes' time, we know that it's bullshit.

• 35:16Speaker 02

You can also, um, create a smart playlist of like the last fifty songs that you've added to your iTunes, and it'll auto.

• 35:22Jonny?

  It's a iTunes app.

• 35:23Speaker 02

  Uh, okay. So.

• 35:25Jonny?

It would be nice if I did.

• 35:27Speaker 02

  Send a late message.

• 35:29Chris Williamson?

Man, I have got so many fucking good life hacks here.

• 35:34Chris Williamson?

  I've got loads.

• 35:36Speaker 02

We're we're gonna have to do life hacks one ten.

• 35:38Jonny?

Maybe we should have like a single payment of nine nine nine nine nine and it unlocks all the life hacks.

• 35:44Chris Williamson?

Ninety nine. Nine thousand five hundred pounds. Right, is are you shortcuts for a thing?

• 35:50Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 35:51Jonny?

  You've scheduled it.

• 35:52Chris Williamson?

Is it on loud? You're on loud.

• 35:54Jonny?

  I can.

• 35:54Chris Williamson?

The only time I'm allowing you to put it on loud in a podcast. Okay, so.

• 35:58Speaker 02

I don't think I have message notifications on.

• 36:00Chris Williamson?

Ah, that's good. See, that's fucking good, that. Too deep down. Um, okay, so Unsplash dot com. Is it Unsplash dot com?

• 36:08Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:08Chris Williamson?

  Unsplash dot com. So.

• 36:10Speaker 02

Like like pixels and pixabay and stuff.

• 36:12Chris Williamson?

So everybody. Everybody wants to use.

• 36:20Chris Williamson?

Everybody wants nice stock photos that they can use, whether it's for marketing or just for cover photo for some event that you're making on Facebook or whatever it is. Unsplash dot com is without a doubt the best place to find well curated stock photos. So a lot of photographers across the internet have taken mint photos of random stuff, whether it be. Uh, meditating or a photo of the spine or a cool photo of coffee or anything. Unsplash dot com. Search whatever it is that you're looking for. I guarantee they're a bit hipstery. Some of the photos, they are a little bit, but they're they're they over deliver on cool and edginess. Which for a stock photo probably brings it to about normality.

• 37:02Speaker 02

Yeah, most stock photos are so clinical, okay?

• 37:04Chris Williamson?

  Yes, exactly.

• 37:04Jonny?

Chris, these are brilliant. Are these free?

• 37:07Chris Williamson?

Yes, all of them. Royalty free.

• 37:09Speaker 02

  Great, have a.

• 37:11Jonny?

This is. I so so pixels. We spoke about that one before.

• 37:16Chris Williamson?

  No.

• 37:17Jonny?

Have you heard of pixels, V M D?

• 37:19Speaker 02

  So being the even.

• 37:21Jonny?

So pixels is what I've always used. It's very similar to this, like the formatting and everything is very similar.

• 37:25Chris Williamson?

  Such meditation.

• 37:26Jonny?

Even has even has the same some of the same photos.

• 37:28Chris Williamson?

  Such meditation or productivity.

• 37:30Jonny?

  I've searched gym.

• 37:31Chris Williamson?

Gym. Oh, just insane mint photos of like cool shit.

• 37:34Jonny?

He's a big blonde head man.

• 37:36Chris Williamson?

He says large human, yes. So yeah, Unsplash dot com, like, and you can also, a a really fucking good thing is if you've got, um. Uh, what was that story app that we came up with?

• 37:51Speaker 02

Cover, uh, the one that has the ripped.

• 37:53Chris Williamson?

Rip paper, motherfucker. Oh, yeah. V M D, V M D's gesturing from behind that.

• 37:58Speaker 02

  Story.

• 37:59Chris Williamson?

Anyway. My mid. One word. Fold. Unfold, unfold. Yes, thanks, Dean. Um, unfold has inbuilt into it, so unfold, we already featured, it's a nice way of making Instagram stories look very curated. Unfold has built into it, you can either add a photo from your gallery, take a photo, or automatically search Unsplash and just pull a photo in without saving it to your phone. That motherfucker.

• 38:26Speaker 02

There, there's a couple of WordPress apps we do, you use that, do that as well, and it's lovely, but like, they must have an API that just allows you to. So can I piggyback off that?

• 38:33Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, cool.

• 38:35Speaker 02

There's a Mac app called Zoommy with two M's that is an aggregator of Pixabay, Pexels, Unsplash, um.

• 38:42Chris Williamson?

  What's it called?

• 38:43Speaker 02

  Zoommy, Z O O M M Y, and it's, it's twelve pounds and it's a.

• 38:50Chris Williamson?

  Lifetime license.

• 38:51Speaker 02

Yeah, I think so, and you, you just search it, it just aggregates all the photos, it splits them by, um, paid and free photos. And, um, I just like, I prefer having a native Mac.

• 39:00Chris Williamson?

You're blown away by Unsplash, aren't you? Completely. I use Pexels two, three days a week. Unsplash pisses all over. That is.

• 39:08Speaker 02

  Oh, man.

• 39:09Chris Williamson?

Game changer. Man, some of your ads now. We should do live hacks more often.

• 39:16Chris Williamson?

That's Frank the Tank for you. Is that a choo choo trade? All right, Frank the Tank. Frank the Tank. Right, Zoommy app, oh, we're going back the other way.

• 39:21Speaker 02

Well, that, that was just a piggyback off.

• 39:23Chris Williamson?

  You've broken it.

• 39:24Speaker 02

No, no, that, that was Chris, that was all Chris's live hack.

• 39:27Chris Williamson?

  Johnny, your turn.

• 39:30Speaker 02

Who's not gonna have their kombucha?

• 39:32Chris Williamson?

Trying to. None of us are going to have this Satan's vinegar piss.

• 39:36Speaker 02

  Can I have someone's kombucha?

• 39:37Chris Williamson?

  There you go, thank you.

• 39:38Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 39:39Chris Williamson?

  I'd like it.

• 39:40Speaker 02

  Would you like it?

• 39:41Chris Williamson?

No, thank you, no, no, no. Johnny, what are you doing? Um, I'm just trying to decide which one to pick.

• 39:46Jonny?

Okay, I'll do this one. So, um, you may have heard the, you know, you're like, everyone has a to do list, to do list, right? So everyone has like somewhere like a bit bit of paper or in an app, whatever. And you have the problem where you sit down and you're like, what am I gonna do? Like, how do I pick from this? So some people say, pick one thing to do per day. Some people say, have three important tasks to do. But the natural reaction to that is like, oh yeah, but I need to go and like, take this thing back to the shop or whatever. So a lot of things get missed from that framework. So the the one that, something that I've I read about a long time ago, used it when I was, working as an accountant actually quite a bit, but started using it again recently, is five, three, one. So it's not the strength training program, five, three, one for productivity. So,

• 40:32Jonny?

squat, bench and deadlift. Now, so uh, you have one key task, the most important thing for that day, which would be, um, if that's all you got done, sort of successful day, you then have three, medium importance of, you know, the next three things that would be on your priority list. And then you do five admin level bullshit tasks.

• 40:50Chris Williamson?

How do you segment them out?

• 40:51Jonny?

  What do you mean?

• 40:52Chris Williamson?

So how do you choose what falls into? Because some tasks may be able to be categorized into.

• 40:59Jonny?

I see. Well, so admin stuff is like, stuff that you probably wouldn't even normally put on your to do list. Like really low level things, but sometimes also things that like, you would just let slide because they're not, they're not that important, but still matter when they add up. So trying to think of examples. Like make a phone, you're like someone you need to call, something you need to take back, an errand you need to run, that sort of stuff. Most important thing is like the thing of the most impact. So if you.

• 41:24Chris Williamson?

  Does that happen first?

• 41:25Jonny?

Ideally, you would do that thing first. Yeah. So like, if you're a, involved in business or or whatever, you run your own business, something that impacts your revenue or, moves your business forward. If you're an employee, it's like the thing that you're gonna, might lose your job if you don't do. And then three things after that would just be the next three things on your list. The most, so I found that to be a nice balance between, like firstly, if you you tick off all the five things, you still feel like, get it, like smashing it, even though they're not important. And. By the end of the work week, you've done twenty five admin level tasks.

• 41:58Speaker 02

Probably in a natural ratio of those kind of tasks as well, isn't it?

• 42:02Chris Williamson?

Nice. I like it. Is there a um blog or like a a little?

• 42:07Jonny?

If you search like five three one for activity method and the best app I've found to use this on.

• 42:13Chris Williamson?

  Big lifts two.

• 42:15Jonny?

Big lifts two. So um it's involves strangling a no um to do list. So I know you don't like it. I know you like things and all that sort of stuff, but to do list allows you to um colour code or categorize your tasks, um blue, red or yellow. So blue is my my admin tasks, yellow is my medium importance and red is the most important. So I'll actually go through my to do list and I'll pre categorize them. So at the start of the day, I just literally click and drag five things, three things, one thing, done, day scheduled. That's all I do.

• 42:50Chris Williamson?

That's a good way to do it.

• 42:51Speaker 02

It's good. Seth. This is really relate pretty related to what Johnny's just said about to do list. Um I use Wunderlist, but both apps have this feature, which is a quick capture hotkey. So.

• 43:04Chris Williamson?

  So does things.

• 43:05Speaker 02

So does thing. Oh, great. Okay. So all three, whether you're a to do list, Wunderlist or things user, they all have this feature. And I know my life has been very techie today, but um there'll be a keyboard shortcut for Wunderlist. It's command shift W, comes up with a bar, you type in the um task that you need to do. And I think with to do list has the best version of this, where if you put like a symbol of at or hashtag or whatever, you can then allocate it to a certain list and you can tag it as high, medium or low priority. And then it's just in your system. So you don't have to open up the app or anything. You can just be in the middle of something and go, oh, he's did that thing. Okay. So. Tag urgent in folder work.

• 43:45Jonny?

Can you smart schedule? If you so like if you were to say, um if I control and uh.

• 43:53Chris Williamson?

This is because I haven't logged in. So I haven't logged in to things on my new laptop.

• 43:58Jonny?

Laptop. So I think command T is to do list, pretty sure. So command T and then it'd be like um.

• 44:06Jonny?

Log into Unsplash every Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

• 44:09Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 44:10Jonny?

  And it sets it.

• 44:11Chris Williamson?

So natural, natural language. So Thiago Forte, if you're interested in this sort of stuff, if this is kind of really getting your juices flowing, the episode.

• 44:18Jonny?

  Flowing hard.

• 44:19Chris Williamson?

Yeah, that's Unsplash though for you. Um, the episode that I did with Thiago Forte is the fucking bible on this, like, he's just a monster.

• 44:28Jonny?

He knows quite a bit about it, doesn't he?

• 44:29Chris Williamson?

He really does, yeah. But a frictionless capture for to-do lists, I think, is the, uh, using a smart capture. One thing that Things has is called Things Helper, um, which is where it uses a smart capture. So let's say that you're on an email, um, and you use, mine is Ctrl and space to open up the capture, but Ctrl, Option, Space pulls in the title of the page that you're on, on a website, and then puts the URL into the description. So let's say that you need to reply to an email. You just.

• 45:03Jonny?

So is it whichever app, whichever app is at the front?

• 45:05Chris Williamson?

Yes, and it'll just pull that through, but typically it's used for websites. So it'll just pull that in and it'll title it with the thing at the top, which you can change the name of the page and then it'll.

• 45:14Jonny?

Do you two use, I'm, I'm guessing you do, the Evernote email address when you, you know, the, you know, the thing of like when you're sifting, sifting through emails, if you need to file something to reference.

• 45:24Chris Williamson?

Can you explain this? Like just what, what the feature is?

• 45:27Jonny?

So if, if you have an, if you have Evernote, an Evernote account, you have an email address associated to that Evernote account that allows you to send an email to Evernote, I think to inbox. Um, so I have an Alfred shortcut, which is I type A, ever, enter, and it sends the email and files it away to my Evernote.

• 45:49Chris Williamson?

That's lovely. What, as in, so you have to have the email open?

• 45:52Jonny?

Yeah. So if, so when I'm sifting through my emails, I can't remember, is it Thiago Forte? It's like you either action it, delay it, or reference it or something like that.

• 46:00Chris Williamson?

Yeah, there, there's a, there's an email app that's purely designed around that thing.

• 46:04Jonny?

Is it like, it's like a game for Gmail?

• 46:06Chris Williamson?

Kind of. Well, it's, it's a standalone thing and there's, there's four big buttons next to every.

• 46:11Jonny?

  Oh, right. Okay.

• 46:12Chris Williamson?

So it's purely designed around that.

• 46:13Jonny?

Someone made a, a game for Gmail. Now to get you to inbox zero, where you like have to swipe emails.

• 46:18Chris Williamson?

Tinder for emails. So there's an equivalent for this, which is send to Kindle. So you can turn on an accepted email address on your Kindle device. Uh, it's actually on your Amazon account. And then anything which you receive from that email address. If the attachment can be opened by Kindle, it'll automatically add it to your library on all your devices. So let's say that someone sends you, oh, hi mate, I've just ripped the new Mark Manson book or someone sent me it or whatever, whatever. All that you do, take that email, forward it to like Chris dot Williamson, da, da, da, da, da, da, at Kindle dot com. And all of your devices will have that document on there.

• 46:59Jonny?

  Do you use WhisperSync?

• 47:02Chris Williamson?

Uh, no, because I don't tend to buy books that I also listen to. I either have them, I tend to have them on one or on one.

• 47:08Jonny?

That's a good, if you, if you're like in the car, if you're reading a book in the morning and you want to continue listening to the way to work.

• 47:13Chris Williamson?

What's happening with a couple of books?

• 47:14Jonny?

  Sinks your place on.

• 47:15Chris Williamson?

Uh, I'm going to do a slightly short one now. So, um, if you are listening to house music in the gym. And you're doing some isometric holds, let's say that you're holding a plank. Or you need to be, you're holding a stretch and you need to know how long, let's say you're holding it for 30 seconds. Listening to house music, almost all house music is written at between about 124 and 128 beats per minute. Which means that every hi hat hit or every other beat is about a second. So if you're listening to music, you don't need to look at the clock, just count every other beat and that's going to count you in seconds.

• 47:49Jonny?

Can you play us an example?

• 47:51Chris Williamson?

  Uh, yeah, sure. So.

• 47:55Jonny?

Have to be less than seven seconds for the.

• 47:56Chris Williamson?

This is going to pull us, in fact, this is going to pull us on YouTube.

• 47:59Jonny?

  All right.

• 48:00Chris Williamson?

So, um, but yeah, every other, every other beat, every other beat is one second, almost exactly. Um, and by using that as a cadence for doing whatever isometric holds, stretches, um, anything. So headphones are in, don't need to look in, there you go.

• 48:18Jonny?

Excellent, excellent. Johnny. Um, so this one is actually influenced by listening to your podcast of James Clear. And then re reviewing my notes on atomic habits.

• 48:32Chris Williamson?

  Nice.

• 48:32Jonny?

Um, but I think the mistake that people make with building habits and behaviours is they make it too.

• 48:42Jonny?

General, so we'll say, I'm gonna practice, I'm gonna build a habit of meditating every day, for example. And what happens is, you will for a week, meditate in the morning, and then something will happen, something will happen, you're like, I'll do it later, I'll do it later. And then before you know it, you've lost your streak completely of meditating. So instead, what I've tried to focus doing is you drill and build the, what is almost like the, the lead indicator of that habit being completed. So, like, I will meditate in the morning after making a coffee or, or whatever. Um, but the biggest one for me was, the biggest change for me was so trying to achieve a calorie deficit, right? Something that we help a lot of people do.

• 49:22Jonny?

But saying, I'm gonna track my macros for twelve weeks, or I'm gonna lose weight. Like, the biggest, for me, the biggest lead indicator of me hitting my macros and therefore being in a calorie deficit across the week is after I meditate in the morning, I sit and just plan in my fitness pile what I'm gonna eat that day, probably. So I track my macros in the morning at the start of the day. And all that means is, it's, it's your best estimate, right? Like, obviously things change. But all that means is that when you deviate from what you tracked, you immediately think, oh, well. I gotta go back and change my fitness. Well, well, no, I need to adjust something later in that, that, later, later in the day. So like, what most people do is they'll eat breakfast, eat lunch, eat dinner, track it, go fuck, I'm over by four hundred calories, shit.

• 50:06Jonny?

Oh, I better adjust tomorrow, or. Then by the next day, you've had a night's sleep, you've kind of forgotten about that. And then you're over, then you over your calories by several thousand across the week. So does it predict your calories earlier in the day? Yeah, so you just, so like, most people have a pretty routine, like, most people. Feeding schedule. Have this similar breakfast, like, if you used to, if you have, like, forty grams of cereal and a two scoops of weight. Yeah, banana. Yeah, it's a banana as well. I've, I've introduced a banana recently. Nice, you're on a health kick. Yeah. She had some, like, crushed. Doctor away. Smashed, smashed avocado on the cereal. Oh, yeah, exactly.

• 50:38Speaker 02

We put a bit of like sprinkled uh black pepper and.

• 50:41Jonny?

  Lovely.

• 50:41Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 50:42Jonny?

Um, so yeah, most people eat very similar foods, um, and usually the question mark is dinner. So if you best predict dinner, and if you listen to my previous like life hack and you've got gusto.

• 50:53Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 50:54Jonny?

Then you just pick the recipe card at the start of the day and put that in. Or, oh, sorry, can I do two?

• 50:59Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 51:00Jonny?

So this is a present I got recently, James Haskell's cookbook, right, has barcodes on the recipe pages that scan immediately into my fitness.

• 51:10Speaker 02

  Oh, that's great.

• 51:12Jonny?

  So it has listed.

• 51:13Speaker 02

That's gonna become standard practice, I imagine.

• 51:15Jonny?

Oh, well, yeah, but you, you have any idea how? How few recipe books have the macros?

• 51:20Speaker 02

Unbelievable. And you're trying to put in like a third of a cup of flour.

• 51:24Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 51:24Chris Williamson?

That's the thing, you're not even putting the end result in, you're putting in like, what are the raw fucking, yeah.

• 51:30Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 51:30Chris Williamson?

Raw materials, that's great. Who's James Haskell? Just a guy.

• 51:33Jonny?

He's a rugby player, a former, I think former England rugby player, I don't think he plays anymore, big, big dude.

• 51:38Speaker 02

It's the standard uh route, the career route that any ex-celebrity does know, isn't it? Like.

• 51:43Jonny?

  Undertree, just cooking.

• 51:44Chris Williamson?

  Cookbook.

• 51:45Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 51:46Chris Williamson?

Daytime TV. I was on BBC Radio Ulster today.

• 51:50Speaker 02

  That's.

• 51:51Jonny?

  Or several weeks ago.

• 51:52Chris Williamson?

Yeah, it will be several weeks ago in Podcastland, don't it?

• 51:55Jonny?

  BBC Radio, Podcastland.

• 51:57Chris Williamson?

It's interesting. Uh, what have you got?

• 51:59Speaker 02

So, two monitors has changed my life.

• 52:02Chris Williamson?

Oh, second display, well, actually, external display.

• 52:06Speaker 02

  External.

• 52:07Chris Williamson?

  And then second external display.

• 52:09Speaker 02

  Yeah, so, um.

• 52:10Chris Williamson?

How much better is having two external displays than having one?

• 52:13Jonny?

Have you got two external displays?

• 52:15Speaker 02

I have the potential for it, so, um, I.

• 52:18Chris Williamson?

  Don't even have one.

• 52:19Speaker 02

I found, I acquired an old TV, like an old Samsung TV, like flat screen, I don't watch, I haven't watched TV in years. So I don't really, didn't know what to do with it, thinking to sell it, and then I was like, hang on, there's an HDMI cable. Can I get an HDMI to thunderbolt or whatever it's called?

• 52:37Jonny?

Have you not got an HDMI on your Mac?

• 52:38Chris Williamson?

  I've got an air.

• 52:39Speaker 02

Yeah, so managed to find one on Amazon. I I had to buy three cables because the first two I bought mail to mail and then I bought like a a a USB thinking it had a US. So so that that was my stupidity, but eventually got the correct cable. And it's just instantaneous. There's no delay between thingies. The quality is perfect. It's just like an extension of your screen. And all year I've, when you have document on one side and something you're typing on the other, for example, or something to reference or something to do.

• 53:08Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 53:09Speaker 02

It's just been fantastic. And then if you if you don't, if you're not doing a task like that, having your to do list maximized on that side. Beautiful.

• 53:16Chris Williamson?

You'd ever just maximize B focus pro?

• 53:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:22Chris Williamson?

  Counter with a single task.

• 53:24Speaker 02

It's brilliant because it's like, right, you're gonna do this task now.

• 53:26Jonny?

You can set them, can't you order them? So you can have like, you can drag something from there to there seamlessly.

• 53:32Speaker 02

I use better touch tool for expanding the shortcuts and things on Mac, which I highly recommend. It's like ten quid for like for three years licence, I think.

• 53:41Chris Williamson?

  Mm hmm.

• 53:42Speaker 02

And I've got a shortcut where I swipe left from the edge of the trackpad. And it takes the window that's the frontmost thing and maximizes it to the next display.

• 53:50Jonny?

  So you like throw it.

• 53:51Chris Williamson?

So have you got the three displays, including your MacBook?

• 53:54Speaker 02

So the other display is uh what you can use is any iPod or iPhone.

• 53:59Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 54:00Speaker 02

Using an app called Duet. Now, again, the new version of Iowa. Well, thi- this is made by my by Apple developers.

• 54:06Chris Williamson?

Is AirPlay mirroring and screen mirroring not a thing?

• 54:09Speaker 02

You can do that as well, but you have to have the the device that you're mirroring to has to be capable of that. Is it just a a?

• 54:15Jonny?

And that's only mir- mirroring. So it's not.

• 54:19Speaker 02

So what Duet allows you to do, and it will soon be included in the default Apple thing, is that you plug in an iPhone or an iPad and you stand it up and it just acts as another monitor.

• 54:28Chris Williamson?

  Okay.

• 54:29Speaker 02

  So.

• 54:29Chris Williamson?

You have a very small phone.

• 54:31Jonny?

Yeah, that's an idea for getting like the new XS plus or something.

• 54:35Speaker 02

  A massive phone.

• 54:35Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 54:36Speaker 02

  Yeah, I mean, they.

• 54:37Chris Williamson?

  Extra display.

• 54:37Speaker 02

With an iPhone, it's only useful for like something that's.

• 54:40Chris Williamson?

  B focus pro.

• 54:40Speaker 02

Time or a B uh B focus pro.

• 54:42Chris Williamson?

That's cool. And so I'm gonna ride off the back of that. Can I do two?

• 54:45Speaker 02

Yeah, oh, actually, just before before you do.

• 54:47Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 54:48Speaker 02

Better touch tool, just on that note, there's a new feature that allows you. You know how we mentioned a few life hacks ago? To improve in, to turn your like your trackpad trackpad speed up to the maximum.

• 54:59Chris Williamson?

It can take it past the current limit.

• 55:01Speaker 02

  A new spectrum.

• 55:02Chris Williamson?

  Oh, my god.

• 55:04Speaker 02

  To like sickening speed.

• 55:05Chris Williamson?

So I sent the screenshot, I sent, I sent the screenshot of um increased trackpad sensitivity. And then in brackets after it says goes past current like Apple settings, I sent the screenshot to Darren. Darren said, I want it immediately.

• 55:17Speaker 02

  Did I send you that?

• 55:18Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 55:18Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:20Jonny?

You can also, on that theme, this is for V M D.

• 55:22Chris Williamson?

  Uh huh.

• 55:23Jonny?

You can use an iMac as an external display for a MacBook.

• 55:28Chris Williamson?

  Why would you not just?

• 55:29Jonny?

  Thunderbolt to thunderbolt.

• 55:30Speaker 02

  Oh, nice.

• 55:31Jonny?

Just in case you want to.

• 55:32Chris Williamson?

So um extending from your life hack there, Yusuf, is convert to a standing desk. Like um I got in touch with the guys who make the chair that Joe Rogan has, which is called the fully capisco chair. And they also make the world's best standing desk, which is.

• 55:50Speaker 02

  Nice chair.

• 55:51Chris Williamson?

Yeah, it's very comfortable. It's a lot more like a saddle. You need to just, so if you're listening, go and Google fully capisco, C A P I S C O D I N G O. Um and and to have a little look at it, it's, it looks like the maddest thing ever, but it is ridiculously comfortable. It's a standing desk stool that you can use from just above typical seating height to all the way above higher than you are when you're standing. Um and the desk also is on actuators and with the touch of a button, you can go from seating to standing. You have preset memory buttons on it as well. You press the button and it just rises up.

• 56:30Chris Williamson?

Now, it isn't cheap, that's the issue, but if you are working, especially if this is going to be the thing that you're going to sit at for the rest of your life. By the time that this is out, in fact, Stuart McGill went out today. So you'll have heard the world's leading back pain specialist say that move well and move often is the best heuristic to use for reducing back pain. If you're a knowledge worker, if you work on a desk, you will have some degree of back. Discomfort, everyone does. So moving from seating to standing as seamlessly as you can. For me, I explained this to you the other day, Seth, when I'm doing pomodoros now, I do two pomodora standing, one pomodora seating, just and as my alarm goes off and if I need to change, just press a button.

• 57:15Chris Williamson?

Press a button, I'll move and that's it. And standing all day to to seating to standing, moving around is making me feel. Another thing as well, I'm so much more energized when I stand up.

• 57:25Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 57:26Chris Williamson?

Doing a podcast, standing up, I'm able to use my hands, talk to etc.

• 57:31Speaker 02

We should do a life hack, all three of us standing up one day.

• 57:34Chris Williamson?

  We'll do a full podcast.

• 57:35Jonny?

  You're in Barbell Shrugged.

• 57:37Speaker 02

  Yeah, it is, isn't it?

• 57:38Jonny?

They do all the podcasts. No, they go around the country, do all their podcasts on uh. So if you want a cheaper version of that, what I've had for ages, very desk, which is just a big unit that you put on top of any desk and that that becomes a standing desk, loads of adjustable heights.

• 57:55Speaker 02

So it comes up and forward.

• 57:57Jonny?

Yeah. Also, Kelly Starrett has a book called Desk Bound, where he's very anti-sitting, like very, very anti-sitting, but he has a sequence of like mobility drills, they're more like just movement, movements you can do um to alleviate some of the symptoms of sitting um that work extremely well in pomodora bricks.

• 58:20Chris Williamson?

  Nice.

• 58:21Jonny?

So pomodora bricks are best used, in my opinion, as either little quick meditation session or do one of Kelly Starrett's like.

• 58:28Chris Williamson?

Rehab man. So I do, I do um the McGill, the McGill big three takes almost exactly four minutes thirty.

• 58:35Jonny?

  Does it?

• 58:36Chris Williamson?

For me to do one of the movements. It's about fifteen minutes to get all three done.

• 58:39Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 58:39Chris Williamson?

So you can get away, especially side plank, side plank's great.

• 58:42Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 58:43Chris Williamson?

Um, so I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do another one. We are approaching summer, people are going away on holiday and you're gonna be going through the airport. This, I I I only realized it on my most recent trip and I've been away quite a lot this year. And this is the discussion about where do you get, once you get into the departure lounge, where do you get your food for the flight from? So I mean, if you're not buying food for a flight, even if. If it's a short one, you need it because you're left with like Ryanair's toastie, which is not a nice toastie.

• 59:13Jonny?

  They're always wet.

• 59:15Chris Williamson?

  Shy, very soggy.

• 59:16Jonny?

  Why are they wet?

• 59:17Chris Williamson?

  Very condensed.

• 59:18Jonny?

What the fuck is that process?

• 59:18Chris Williamson?

  Very condensation.

• 59:19Jonny?

  Are they microwaving that?

• 59:20Chris Williamson?

  I think so.

• 59:20Jonny?

  There must be.

• 59:21Chris Williamson?

  Microwave.

• 59:21Jonny?

They need to listen to live.

• 59:23Chris Williamson?

Fucking get the Breville on that. I mean, the Breville.

• 59:25Jonny?

That's, that is hot floppy bread.

• 59:26Speaker 02

You have to pay extra for it surely as well.

• 59:29Chris Williamson?

  Oh, you mean.

• 59:31Jonny?

Well, yeah, you don't get it. You don't get any.

• 59:33Chris Williamson?

Oh, no. So the short, short haul flights you're paying on top.

• 59:36Jonny?

  Yep.

• 59:36Chris Williamson?

Long haul flights, even worse than that, you, the food that you get on long haul flights makes me almost more hungry than before I ate it.

• 59:44Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 59:44Chris Williamson?

  Like, it is not.

• 59:45Jonny?

Especially if you've got an allergy, because what you get is a fruit platter. And when they say fruit platter, what they mean is a bit of melon.

• 59:54Speaker 02

That is so true. A bit of honeydew, like a thin slice.

• 59:57Chris Williamson?

Yeah. Um, so, yeah, the, I think you, first off, I need to, I need to preface this and create the foundation that if you are going on a plane, you need some food.

• 1:00:06Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:00:06Chris Williamson?

The best approach for this is to get meal deal, right? So you're like, right, I, I want some water. I don't have to keep calling the lady over. Also, water's expensive on the plane.

• 1:00:14Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:00:16Chris Williamson?

Need some water, probably gonna get a sandwich anyway. It's like safer, safer sort of bet. Oh, well, if I've got that, I may as well get snack as well. Upsell. W H Smith meal deal, four ninety nine. Boots meal deal, three ninety nine. And Boots meal deal, Boots is the only store, W H Smith doesn't have this, Boots has. Sauerkraut pre-buttered two slices, my love. You can only get the single bar, which is smaller in, uh, W H Smith, but in Boots, one pound less. And you can get pre-buttered sauerkraut slices.

• 1:00:54Jonny?

  I'm doing that this week.

• 1:00:55Chris Williamson?

Man, game changer. I'm telling you.

• 1:00:57Jonny?

  I have a.

• 1:00:58Chris Williamson?

  Fucking telling you, man!

• 1:01:00Jonny?

  Sandwich buying tip.

• 1:01:01Chris Williamson?

  Oh.

• 1:01:02Jonny?

So I buy a lot of sandwiches, like high volume sandwich purchases. So one of the biggest.

• 1:01:06Chris Williamson?

  Very sandwich heavy today.

• 1:01:09Jonny?

The biggest problem, if you are someone who doesn't unlike these two, just maintain abs all year round, eating whatever the hell you want.

• 1:01:16Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 1:01:16Jonny?

Um, and you have to actually consider what you eat. When you're buying like a sandwich from David Smith or Boots, typically the calories are. Four hundred to six hundred and the protein's only pretty low, fat's pretty high, protein's pretty low. So I have a ten percent rule to try and get that you wanna get as close to this ten percent rule in general. When buying any meal in a place like this and the the ten percent rule is calories, ten percent of that number. That should be what you're aiming for in grams of protein and the closest you can get to that, that is pretty fucking good, like a grenade bar is about ten percent.

• 1:01:52Speaker 02

So it's not always possible, but you should be aiming.

• 1:01:54Jonny?

Just aim to get as close to that. So what that ends up looking like is some obviously chicken bacon salad kind of.

• 1:02:01Speaker 02

Sometimes they have like a protein booster, don't they, like a little.

• 1:02:03Jonny?

  Sometimes.

• 1:02:04Chris Williamson?

I bet an I bet an all day breakfast is fucking good for that.

• 1:02:07Jonny?

  It's actually not.

• 1:02:08Speaker 02

  Hash browns.

• 1:02:09Jonny?

So an all day and all day breakfast will be six hundred with maybe protein in the twenties.

• 1:02:13Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:13Jonny?

If you get a chicken and bacon salad, usually something like that, it'll be four hundred with like a thirty five gram protein.

• 1:02:18Chris Williamson?

  Oh, really getting.

• 1:02:19Jonny?

Very close. And then if you want like a chocolate bar, you're thinking, well, how do I, what do I do? Cause that's gonna increase my calories, but not then you get like chicken raiders or something shit like that, but just some of the protein.

• 1:02:31Chris Williamson?

  That's a very unappetizing selection.

• 1:02:34Jonny?

  Doesn't matter.

• 1:02:34Chris Williamson?

Food. Well, yeah, because gains, that's true, because gains.

• 1:02:37Jonny?

  Because gains.

• 1:02:38Speaker 02

I remember being on a train and I you you bought either two or three.

• 1:02:42Jonny?

I remember that trip, it was two.

• 1:02:44Speaker 02

  Chris, I blinked.

• 1:02:46Chris Williamson?

Fucking telling you, man. They were there, yeah? And I looked.

• 1:02:51Speaker 02

I see Johnny, he's not even chewing anymore, he's just got empty packets next to him.

• 1:02:54Jonny?

I get really annoyed in those situations, so I'll often buy, cause I think it's important, if you're traveling, you got a backpack, reserve sandwich. So important, you never, you never know when you're gonna be caught in a situation, like you're in a museum, you're hungry, the cafe's shit.

• 1:03:10Speaker 02

  Thank god.

• 1:03:10Jonny?

  Reserve sandwich.

• 1:03:11Speaker 02

  I've got mine.

• 1:03:12Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:12Speaker 02

Right. I bet you've got a slot in your backpack where you can just.

• 1:03:16Chris Williamson?

You've got one of those fancy Thule backpacks.

• 1:03:18Jonny?

I do have a Thule backpack, but you go, so you go with two sandwiches, in boots, you've got two sandwiches and like a big smart water incidentally. Buy a smart water.

• 1:03:25Chris Williamson?

  Smart. You should, um.

• 1:03:26Jonny?

  Like the one litre one.

• 1:03:27Chris Williamson?

You should take us through Thule on a, on a new one. I'm suggesting you, life hacks, I wanna hear off you.

• 1:03:32Jonny?

  Okay.

• 1:03:33Chris Williamson?

  Cool.

• 1:03:33Jonny?

You go, you go to the thing with two sandwiches and they say, you know, it's only if you get a pack of crisps and a, yeah, no, I just want the sandwiches and all of it.

• 1:03:40Chris Williamson?

  I don't want two fucking.

• 1:03:41Jonny?

Yeah, but if you just spend another two pound, you're. I don't want the meal deal, I just want the two sandwiches and a bottle of water.

• 1:03:48Chris Williamson?

Excuse me, have you seen the percentage of protein in these sandwiches? Do I look like a fucking amateur here?

• 1:03:53Speaker 02

This is a problem unique to Johnny where there'll be a better deal than the thing that he's getting. No, no, no, I don't want the free can of Coke, cause I've got anywhere to carry.

• 1:04:02Chris Williamson?

I'm not going to, I'm not going to buy the Telegraph to save three pence on this bottle of water that I've got here, cause I don't want to.

• 1:04:07Jonny?

And no, I don't want like the share bo, the share bar of dairy milk either. I don't care if it's on offer.

• 1:04:12Speaker 02

Can I just have the thing that I came in?

• 1:04:13Jonny?

Yeah. Here we are to, you've just done one.

• 1:04:16Chris Williamson?

No, you've just done one. You just take the ten cent rule and sandwiches. Okay, go again.

• 1:04:20Speaker 02

I think you earned another one now.

• 1:04:22Chris Williamson?

Again, another one, go on then.

• 1:04:24Jonny?

  Um, okay, so.

• 1:04:27Chris Williamson?

  Is that text?

• 1:04:28Jonny?

  No.

• 1:04:28Speaker 02

  I need to find.

• 1:04:30Chris Williamson?

We're well over five minutes. I've got it, I have got, that's because you are being forced to watch Love Island. I was on it and I haven't had to watch a single second.

• 1:04:41Jonny?

You were on it and I didn't watch an episode while you were on it.

• 1:04:44Chris Williamson?

And now you're being forced to watch it?

• 1:04:45Jonny?

I was revising for exams at the time. Um, every person who, well, this will apply to a lot of people, but a lot of people who work nine to five jobs, the sort of rhythm that you're in, the hunger patterns that are created, typically people get hungry between three thirty and four thirty. Right? And what they usually do, vending machine, muffin.

• 1:05:08Chris Williamson?

  Snack.

• 1:05:08Jonny?

Like latte and a biscotti or whatever, yeah. Yogurt and whey. Is the best.

• 1:05:14Chris Williamson?

  Like Greek yogurt.

• 1:05:15Jonny?

Greek yogurt, a little bit banana way or.

• 1:05:18Speaker 02

How do you make sure it dissolves properly or you don't get like.

• 1:05:22Jonny?

Just give it a good skier. I know what you mean.

• 1:05:24Speaker 02

Yeah, cause you sometimes you get a.

• 1:05:25Jonny?

You know, a pocket of of powder. Just give it a good whisk.

• 1:05:28Chris Williamson?

  The best.

• 1:05:29Jonny?

Forks, the fork instead of spoon.

• 1:05:30Chris Williamson?

What you really need for this is a container which is larger than the volume of the yoghurt, which means.

• 1:05:36Jonny?

  Cause they're why.

• 1:05:37Chris Williamson?

  Decant the yoghurt.

• 1:05:38Speaker 02

That's a very good point, cause it, cause if if you're operating on like a full pot of yogurt and then you're trying to balance.

• 1:05:43Chris Williamson?

No, it's just gonna, and you're gonna, one little gust of wind and it's, yeah, it's, you can, you get those little air pockets that come up and they fire. The.

• 1:05:52Jonny?

It's like a, like a geezer in Iceland.

• 1:05:54Chris Williamson?

It's exactly, and we were there.

• 1:05:55Jonny?

  We were there.

• 1:05:56Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 1:05:56Jonny?

What you do in that situation is you dig a trench, open the trench and then push the yogurt into the trench, then stir. Never try and stir with the yogurt sitting on top.

• 1:06:06Speaker 02

  You bury the way.

• 1:06:07Chris Williamson?

With the way, way sitting on top, so.

• 1:06:08Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:06:09Jonny?

So yeah, so that is from the things I've found and feel free to add something. Calories for satiety value, Greek yogurt with a bit of whey, like two hundred and fifty, three hundred calories and.

• 1:06:21Chris Williamson?

Leveling it up with extra protein skier.

• 1:06:24Jonny?

Oh, well, well, yeah, obviously. I I ideally Icelandic skier.

• 1:06:28Chris Williamson?

  From directly from Iceland.

• 1:06:29Jonny?

Unfortunately though, it doesn't exist anywhere apart.

• 1:06:32Chris Williamson?

  Because Danone, Boatit, Bortit.

• 1:06:35Jonny?

I can clearly remember shortly after I was convinced I was going to die of hypothermia. Eating that strawberry skier and just saying to you, like, I can't communicate how nice this is.

• 1:06:46Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:06:46Jonny?

It's hard to know how much of it was like delirium.

• 1:06:49Speaker 02

  From just being.

• 1:06:50Chris Williamson?

It was, it was early onset pneumonia.

• 1:06:54Jonny?

But that strawberry skier, it was like a pudding. It was like a low calorie, protein filled pudding.

• 1:07:00Chris Williamson?

What's the percentage of protein to calzine skier? It'll be like twenty percent.

• 1:07:04Jonny?

So, you know, far hey, zero percent. That is essentially a protein supplement. That should be in the protein plan. It's like fifty grams of protein, zero fat in a tub of far hey. It is like eight quid.

• 1:07:15Speaker 02

  What, what.

• 1:07:16Jonny?

You can get kilo tubs of far hey.

• 1:07:17Speaker 02

Was it, you had, you had a kilo with four double dackers.

• 1:07:23Jonny?

I've mixed some, I've mixed some mental shit into, into yogurt in my time.

• 1:07:31Speaker 02

I can imagine Chris having a meal like that.

• 1:07:35Speaker 02

So Chris's first meal snack is often, they'll have a meal, which will be two ready meals dumped into a big bowl with some salad. That's the meal. And then it'll be just a little finisher would be a malt loaf, a pot of yoghurt, dip, and then just like, just squashed it.

• 1:07:50Jonny?

Something that, that Chris, me and audio broadcast all have in common is we, we see yoghurt is the, the cement to any meal. It's, it's what fine thing. Well, it's like, something would be weird, but if you have it with yoghurt, it's fine.

• 1:08:05Chris Williamson?

Yogurt to me is a non savory ketchup.

• 1:08:12Chris Williamson?

  It's a garnish?

• 1:08:13Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:13Chris Williamson?

  It's a garnish.

• 1:08:14Jonny?

That's the closest I've ever felt to like a, a religious pulling towards a belief, like yoghurt is a, is a savory.

• 1:08:24Chris Williamson?

I believe in yoghurt. I do. Do you believe in yoghurt?

• 1:08:27Speaker 02

I believe in yoghurt. I, I put it on all sorts. Like, people have had goes at me because I've had like the honey yoghurt put onto curry. Which is there. People are like, oh, what are you going to do? It's sweet. And it's like, well, it's just bland material that you can put on food.

• 1:08:42Jonny?

The little mini Fahays with a side of like raspberry compote honey.

• 1:08:48Chris Williamson?

  Outstanding.

• 1:08:49Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:08:49Jonny?

  I mean, they're expensive. They're, they're a treat, but.

• 1:08:52Chris Williamson?

And they're, they're silly to say as well.

• 1:08:54Jonny?

Fahay. Cause everyone wants to say faj. But that's immature. So it's, so it's Fahay.

• 1:09:01Chris Williamson?

Right, Seth. Shall we do, um, one more and then we'll do a quick round?

• 1:09:06Speaker 02

Cool. So on one of the previous life hacks, I think I will have mentioned that I store the naughty apps on my phone on like the eighth page of apps.

• 1:09:17Chris Williamson?

  You are an idiot folder.

• 1:09:19Jonny?

What do you call the folder?

• 1:09:20Speaker 02

So this is what the folder's called.

• 1:09:22Chris Williamson?

  Bumbley bum.

• 1:09:23Speaker 02

  No. So it's called.

• 1:09:25Jonny?

  Explicit rating podcast.

• 1:09:28Chris Williamson?

  Cunt times ten.

• 1:09:31Speaker 02

And the the idea is you you go through it and obviously you've got the timer thing on it as well, screen time. And you're like, oh, I better just check Instagram.

• 1:09:40Chris Williamson?

Okay, just laborious, isn't it? It's highly friction.

• 1:09:43Speaker 02

Highly friction. You go all the way to the end and then you look and you're like, ah. I've just been reminded, like, and then by that point, you're like, if you still do it, you think, well, okay, at least I've made this choice consciously and.

• 1:09:57Chris Williamson?

So it's the hack having screen time next to it.

• 1:10:00Speaker 02

As what? So I so I did that. I've just gone a step further now, thanks to George McGill, and just deleted Instagram from my phone. And don't even notice, like, there's no urge to look at it.

• 1:10:09Chris Williamson?

  I bet you'll reinstall it.

• 1:10:12Speaker 02

At some point, but the only reason I need to, because I I upload all of my Instagram stuff from Flume.

• 1:10:18Chris Williamson?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:10:19Speaker 02

  Uh, for desktop. And so.

• 1:10:23Chris Williamson?

Stories. So one of the problems is that Flume doesn't support stories. Like, if it does that, I would be game changer. Um. I will feature on the next one about my strategy for two phones. Why I've got two phones, one social media device and one not. And my screen time, even aggregating them both, has dropped significantly. Um, because.

• 1:10:42Speaker 02

  From two phones?

• 1:10:43Chris Williamson?

Yeah, it which is which is bizarre. Adding a second adding a second phone has reduced screen time, but it has. Because mindless scrolling's been pretty much eliminated. And I've got, actually, for the next one, I've got fucking loads of. Um, phone reduction life hacks. But, uh, right, I'll do. So what was your one? Just what was your one, Seth? There? Like, technically, what would you call it?

• 1:11:03Speaker 02

Um, just deleting Instagram or would like or whatever your whatever your vice app is.

• 1:11:08Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:08Speaker 02

Your mindless thing that you check on and replace it with something that's useful, like, um.

• 1:11:13Chris Williamson?

  Got you.

• 1:11:14Speaker 02

  I books.

• 1:11:14Chris Williamson?

If you wanna real. Kick in the cock about phone use, right? The latest series of Black Mirror is called.

• 1:11:26Chris Williamson?

Um, the latest series of Black Mirror being released, season five.

• 1:11:30Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:11:31Chris Williamson?

  The episode called Smithereens.

• 1:11:35Chris Williamson?

Is, I'm not ruining it, but the ending, the phone call, you just like, like, it's not, it's not some long drawn out, like, complex, like, you know, Ruby said.

• 1:11:51Speaker 02

  It's, it's unrelated, I'll, I'll say afterwards.

• 1:11:55Chris Williamson?

So it's about, it's about phone use.

• 1:11:57Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:11:57Chris Williamson?

  Um, very, very hard hitting.

• 1:12:00Speaker 02

  It's only three episodes long.

• 1:12:02Chris Williamson?

Um, but they're, they're quite, so when I watched a couple, the first few, I was like, this is a shit, but you sit and think about the maths, isn't it?

• 1:12:10Chris Williamson?

Very simple. Charlie Brooker, you know, I've said this before and say it again, Charlie Brooker, I've been watching him from screen wipe to news wipe to all of the random shit he did like back in two thousand and eight.

• 1:12:24Speaker 02

He's an observer, isn't he? Very.

• 1:12:25Chris Williamson?

And it's so fucking good to see someone who was probably at the mercy of, was it BBC?

• 1:12:32Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:12:33Chris Williamson?

Channel four, one of the two, like some shite network, like totally.

• 1:12:37Speaker 02

Well, I saw Black Mirror as well.

• 1:12:39Chris Williamson?

Yes, but then it got bought. No, no, no, no. Uh, when he was doing the screen wipe.

• 1:12:42Speaker 02

  Oh, I see.

• 1:12:43Chris Williamson?

And then, um, he comes up with this idea for Black Mirror and first one does good, second one does good, then Netflix come in, big money, third one smashes it. And it's just, he's going to be fucking raking it in now. And he's finally got a platform where his, um, visions, I'm presuming he's still probably taking creative lead here. Like where his visions are actually able to be created. Like they had the guy that was the main villain out of, uh, Sherlock Holmes.

• 1:13:11Speaker 02

  That's the episode that.

• 1:13:12Chris Williamson?

Right, yeah. Like you swinging, swinging your penis around.

• 1:13:17Speaker 02

There's like a pop star in one of them. I, I don't know, like.

• 1:13:20Chris Williamson?

I bet Logan Paul's in the next season. He's everywhere.

• 1:13:23Speaker 02

I can't believe how you've become the shifan of Logan Paul.

• 1:13:26Chris Williamson?

It's his podcast, man. Impulse, impulsive.

• 1:13:28Speaker 02

I'll have to have a listen.

• 1:13:29Chris Williamson?

  Got traffic, hasn't he?

• 1:13:30Speaker 02

I was laughing at, um, a picture that I saw of like, when you're texting boys in class and it was a shot of urgent exit required.

• 1:13:41Speaker 02

  Which, yeah, okay.

• 1:13:44Chris Williamson?

  Do you, have you seen?

• 1:13:46Speaker 02

You made a reference to that show and so I see.

• 1:13:49Chris Williamson?

  Line of Duty.

• 1:13:50Jonny?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:13:51Chris Williamson?

So, so everyone knows what we're talking about.

• 1:13:52Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:53Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:13:53Chris Williamson?

We've all just had the fear that we've spoiled each other's experiences.

• 1:13:56Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:58Chris Williamson?

Hang on, hang on. Have you seen the end of season?

• 1:14:00Jonny?

No, no, I laughed at it and I thought, oh shit, is this, is this not a Line of Duty reference? In which case like, what fucking weird do I look?

• 1:14:08Chris Williamson?

Fuck it, we can throw this in, this should technically be on a catch up, but.

• 1:14:12Speaker 02

Well, we've ruined it for all the listeners now anyways.

• 1:14:13Chris Williamson?

But they don't, they don't know. Um, watch Line of Duty. If you need a new Netflix series, watch, watch, I'm gonna type it in right now.

• 1:14:20Jonny?

And, and the new Black Mirror.

• 1:14:21Chris Williamson?

  Line of Duty.

• 1:14:23Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:14:23Jonny?

Oh, and watch. You'll like the new Black Mirror.

• 1:14:25Speaker 02

Fine. I think both of those shows constitute a life hack, given how.

• 1:14:28Chris Williamson?

Yeah. Watch, uh, The Planets, Brian Cox's new one on BBC Two, iPlayer.

• 1:14:32Jonny?

  Right.

• 1:14:32Chris Williamson?

Mud. It's the equivalent of Planet Earth for the solar system.

• 1:14:37Jonny?

  Brian Cox.

• 1:14:38Chris Williamson?

  For the solar system.

• 1:14:38Jonny?

Years and years on BBC. So, really clever concept. Takes a family in current. So like, they talk about Brexit and things. It's all, it's a drama and they fast forward time. Ten years, twenty years. So like, there's been another financial crisis.

• 1:14:55Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:14:55Jonny?

  Like.

• 1:14:56Chris Williamson?

  Someone's not a kid.

• 1:14:56Jonny?

There's been nuclear stuff has gone on and it, you just watch it and you just have this a bit like, it's like, yeah. It's like.

• 1:15:04Speaker 02

There's something really viscerally horrible about the passing of time quickly, like, you know that?

• 1:15:08Chris Williamson?

  Rick and Morty.

• 1:15:09Speaker 02

Rick and Morty, the, the show, the, well, Interstellar, where there's that famous scene and it's, it's so gut wrenching because it's just like.

• 1:15:17Jonny?

Well, when Matthew McConaughey finds out that his daughter's like.

• 1:15:19Speaker 02

  Eighty or something.

• 1:15:20Jonny?

Because they're in the way for too long.

• 1:15:21Chris Williamson?

But the problem, the, I think what, what the passing of time happening quickly in TV and film is, is playing on all of our fears of death.

• 1:15:30Jonny?

So it's, it's not, I, I just have this feeling like I'm being bombarded with media that's just telling me that like, the next ten years is gonna be fucking shit.

• 1:15:39Chris Williamson?

Not if we keep on bad things. I'll tell you what, the next ten years are not gonna be shit if this podcast continues growing at the rate it is.

• 1:15:47Chris Williamson?

We can all fuck off really soon. Honestly, please.

• 1:15:51Jonny?

  We'll build a spaceship.

• 1:15:51Chris Williamson?

Continue to share this episode. Honestly, continue to share the episode. I really do appreciate it.

• 1:15:56Jonny?

  Build our spaceship.

• 1:15:57Chris Williamson?

And we will have a fucking spaceship and everyone can come and have a massive party.

• 1:16:00Jonny?

Everyone can come. You're all invited.

• 1:16:02Chris Williamson?

  Right, uh.

• 1:16:02Jonny?

  Up to a safe limit.

• 1:16:03Chris Williamson?

Yeah. Last three, and we'll do a quick fire. Um, so my one, it's another holiday one.

• 1:16:11Chris Williamson?

If you are sunbathing, uh, might be on holiday, might be in the UK, if we finally get some good enough weather. What you want to do to ensure that you are facing the sun without any odd like angles, because you get like one side of your body's a little bit too done in the day or whatever it is. What you want to do is look at the way that the bed or seat is aligned. And you want to make sure that the shadows cast by the seat are running completely parallel with the seat. So if you have one of the legs chopping out and underneath one of the, uh, the, the actual bed or the seat, that means it's at an angle and you want to continue turning, continue turning, continue turning to that. And then for a nice little upgrade, what you can do is work out which direction the sun's going in.

• 1:16:55Chris Williamson?

And you want to add maybe about sort of 15 degrees, 20 degrees. And that's probably got you back.

• 1:17:00Jonny?

  It's got longer to.

• 1:17:00Chris Williamson?

Probably got about maybe half an hour to an hour until it gets to the middle, which means that you've got two hours and it'll cook both sides of you evenly.

• 1:17:09Jonny?

That's good. Equal chance of getting cancer everywhere.

• 1:17:12Chris Williamson?

  Use sunscreen.

• 1:17:13Jonny?

  Use sunscreen, always.

• 1:17:17Jonny?

Mine is periodize who you learn from or who you listen to. So rather than having like 10 people that you listen to a bit or whatever, uh, what I quite like doing is I'll go, like I'll, I'll go all in on someone for like a month and a bit. And it's not something I do on purpose, but like. Sam Ovens. So Sam Ovens, yeah, Anton. But like, you know, you like, you find someone on YouTube or like, and then you like, write and listen to their podcast, buy their book, absorb yourself in their world, learn what you want from that person and then move on. And then that way I think you get totally exposed to. Like it's what we're saying about you read a book, you get exposed to the way that the ideas and stuff like that.

• 1:17:54Chris Williamson?

Some is greater than the whole of the parts when you immerse yourselves like that. In fact, uh, Ryan Holiday has a blog post about how he, I think he calls it the the swarm theory of learning. Um, and it's how he's like become a military history expert. And the way that he did it was just by drowning in military history stuff. And I do think.

• 1:18:17Jonny?

  Total immersion.

• 1:18:18Chris Williamson?

Well, because of availability bias and uh, the echo chamber effect and recency bias and all of these things. Having a lot of information which all ties in together actually is going to reduce your requirement for recall.

• 1:18:32Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:18:33Chris Williamson?

Which means that your depth of understanding will be better and your recall will improve when you start to piece multiple things together.

• 1:18:39Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:40Chris Williamson?

  Um, so yeah, that's.

• 1:18:41Jonny?

We need, you need like, whatever you, whatever you like, whoever you listen to, I think if you have total understanding of the picture of what they're trying to say and why they think what they think. Yeah, right, that makes sense. And then you can move on and learn something else rather than having like, it's like go all in on Tim Ferriss. Like just listen to the Tim Ferriss podcast.

• 1:18:57Chris Williamson?

  For a couple of weeks.

• 1:18:58Jonny?

For a couple of weeks and I bet you'll enjoy it a lot more than it being bitty.

• 1:19:02Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, nice.

• 1:19:03Speaker 02

Yeah, like it's, it's only really come together for me, like just the course I've done this year because of like you learn the little subcomponents over the years, but you don't piece anything together until everything finally gets.

• 1:19:18Speaker 02

So I was gonna do, that, that was yours.

• 1:19:21Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:21Speaker 02

Periodize your, I was gonna do another tech one, but I, I found, I think. We'll leave out the next one, yeah. This is something that I mentioned in a previous podcast, which was a story from my old boss at work who, I was talking to her and on her screen came up a thing, a little email notification that said like urgent with loads of capital letters and stars and things and she just closed.

• 1:19:46Chris Williamson?

  Accident required.

• 1:19:49Speaker 02

So she, she just closed the window and I was like, oh, that was urgent. You don't want to get that. She was like, no, I decide what is urgent. Not this man. Everything that's urgent was a requestor. And I was like, that is such an amazing quote. And it, it, someone, Tim Ferriss highlighted this as well, which is someone saying he couldn't attribute who it was, but so now I've got a quote from a quote from someone who doesn't know who it was.

• 1:20:15Speaker 02

Um, your lack of planning does not constitute my emergency.

• 1:20:20Speaker 02

So the life hack is if someone comes running to you with something that is burning for them, but you're working on something that is a priority, question whether that is objectively an emergency or is it just someone else's lack of planning that doesn't have to become your emergency now?

• 1:20:40Chris Williamson?

I like that. And I guess as well, it means that even if you followed a lot of our strategies about turning off notifications and checking your emails periodically as opposed to ad hoc when they arrive, there will be a way that someone else can game that system. Oh, I'll go knock on your door.

• 1:20:58Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:20:58Chris Williamson?

Or I'll send a phone call or whatever it might be and it avoids that from happening. But thank you very much for tuning in. Do not forget to, where have I put the other shaker?

• 1:21:08Speaker 02

  Oh, I see.

• 1:21:08Chris Williamson?

It's on the bloody floor. Do not buy Equinox kombucha. It tastes like Satan's vinegar piss. What you should do is share this episode and either tag me in the share or show me a screenshot, DM me at Chris Willems, wherever you find me. Shaddies, I'm going to choose five people to get one of these. They're awesome. Thank you very much to the protein works for sponsoring this episode and we will catch you next time.

• 1:21:32Speaker 02

  We haven't named the koala.

• 1:21:34Chris Williamson?

Koala. Prometheus koala. If you have any better ideas for what we can call the koala, then do it. But for now, thank you very much for tuning in. Like, share, subscribe, do all of that good stuff. I really appreciate it. Okay. Goodbye then.
