Q&A 101

Jonny & Yusef from PropaneFitness.com are back again. This time we asked for questions from listeners at home, and oh boy did we get some interesting ones... We talk honestly about our relationships with each other, open up regarding our own mental health battles, and elucidate what is probably the best short-form life advice we can give you. Plus we work out what is the biggest animal we can single handedly cling film to a lamppost. Listen through until the end to find out what episodes and topics we have coming up and hear me begin to articulate "My Why". Also... This probably ranks as my favourite episode to record so far. The questions are so wide ranging and either interesting or ridiculous; both of which are fantastic to answer. It's a credit to the community who tune into these podcasts, so thank you. - Listen to all episodes online. Hi friends, welcome to... Fuck off. Sorry, that's the... That is the mastering programme, just alerting me that it's mastered a different file and interrupted me recording this one, but I'm gonna keep it in. Today's our first ever Q&A episode. I asked on my Instagram, @ChrisWillex, for suggestions for questions you wanted us to answer on the podcast and there was quite a lot and we got through most of them. Jonny and Yusef were fully fatigued by the end of it. However, if you are listening right through until the end, you will find

• 0:41Chris Williamson?

out who some of the upcoming guests are that you can expect and you'll also find out what my thoughts are on the direction for this channel in the future as well. It's very quickly becoming a consolidation of shit that I wish that I'd known 10 years ago. And the more that I use that as a compass, as a guiding tool, I suppose, in terms of direction, the happier I am with the content that's coming out. Hopefully, you feel the same. If you do or if you don't, let me know, @ChrisWillex on all social media platforms

• 1:22Chris Williamson?

or head to YouTube and search Modern Wisdom Podcast so that you can watch this episode and all of the others in beautiful 1080p quality with multi-camera setup as fantastically edited by video guy Dean. But for now, it's time to answer some questions. Oh, and PS, if you notice in the background of the audio, a kind of low-level hum, sort of whistling noise, that is because my house was the hottest place on earth and I'd had to bring a small desk fan in to cool us all down, or else Jonny at 120 kilos would have melted in front of us.

• 2:22Chris Williamson?

  So hello again. Hi.

• 2:24Jonny?

  Hello there.

• 2:25Speaker 02

  Hi.

• 2:25Chris Williamson?

Joined again by Jonny and Yusef from ProGymFitness.com.

• 2:30Jonny?

  Yusef and Jonny?

• 2:31Chris Williamson?

Yusef and Jonny indeed. And we are today doing our first ever Q and A episode.

• 2:37Speaker 02

This wouldn't be possible without the valuable contributions from you guys, so.

• 2:42Chris Williamson?

Our listeners at home. Our listeners at home. So yeah, I posted and so did you guys on our respective Instagrams, asking for people to submit questions and we got.

• 2:52Speaker 02

  Really sensible questions.

• 2:54Chris Williamson?

Some unsensible ones, but interesting ones. They were all interesting and we've got.

• 2:58Speaker 02

I was being slightly facetious, but.

• 3:00Chris Williamson?

  Sixty.

• 3:01Speaker 02

There any mentions of Jonny's legs?

• 3:03Jonny?

  There are actually.

• 3:04Chris Williamson?

  No.

• 3:05Jonny?

  Which is very refreshing.

• 3:06Chris Williamson?

I wanted to ask myself a question, why are Jonny's legs so long?

• 3:09Speaker 02

  To ask yourself that?

• 3:10Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 3:10Speaker 02

  I see.

• 3:11Jonny?

  It's very introspective.

• 3:12Chris Williamson?

Yeah, I know. So we're going to do Q and A today. There's a couple that have been asked.

• 3:18Jonny?

  Who are?

• 3:19Chris Williamson?

A couple of questions that people have requested remain anonymous. Other than that, I think we can just.

• 3:25Jonny?

  Can I know who's anonymous?

• 3:27Chris Williamson?

It's fine for that, but just don't say it.

• 3:29Speaker 02

  Read out the usernames.

• 3:30Chris Williamson?

  Yusef, you read it again.

• 3:31Speaker 02

If we can mispronounce the usernames as well.

• 3:34Chris Williamson?

Don't mispronounce the usernames. So Q and A.

• 3:39Jonny?

  Client?

• 3:40Speaker 02

Just in an Arab accent for every username, please.

• 3:43Jonny?

  Is it the same person?

• 3:44Speaker 02

  It is.

• 3:45Jonny?

  Really?

• 3:45Chris Williamson?

The same person who's got the single, unique username, which only exists for one person on Instagram?

• 3:51Jonny?

Yeah, but I don't know what his Instagram handle is. I just know what his name is.

• 3:53Chris Williamson?

  Moving on.

• 3:54Speaker 02

  First name dot last name.

• 3:55Chris Williamson?

Moving on, because the first question is going to be.

• 3:57Jonny?

Swiftly, swiftly on. Do you mind if I dib and dab or? Okay. Um, can I straighten your hair?

• 4:08Chris Williamson?

  No.

• 4:10Speaker 02

Have you, you, yeah, you have straightened.

• 4:11Chris Williamson?

  Can I straighten your hair?

• 4:13Speaker 02

You can. It, I don't think it'll be as dramatic as.

• 4:16Chris Williamson?

  No.

• 4:17Jonny?

What does your hair look like straightened?

• 4:19Chris Williamson?

Well, when I used to, when I used to have an Afro, I looked like a girl with a beard.

• 4:24Jonny?

  I don't think that's true.

• 4:25Chris Williamson?

I looked a lot like a girl with a beard.

• 4:27Speaker 02

The picture of you mid haircut with a slicked back.

• 4:29Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 4:30Jonny?

  Oh, yeah.

• 4:31Chris Williamson?

This photo, uh, video Mandine, if I can find it, we will put it somewhere.

• 4:36Speaker 02

I think put it on top of Chris's face for the rest of the episode.

• 4:40Chris Williamson?

Just there. If you're listening, you're missing out because we've got three camera angles here. So I know most of you will be on iTunes or Spotify or whatever else. But Modern Wisdom YouTube channel, you can see us in our slightly overheated glory.

• 4:54Jonny?

Yeah, if you're listening, there's probably just a.

• 4:56Chris Williamson?

A very, a very low level hum.

• 4:59Jonny?

Hmm, which is a fan because otherwise we would actually die of.

• 5:02Speaker 02

We would melt. Be able to see the glisten.

• 5:04Chris Williamson?

We'd melt in front of you guys. Johnny is a hundred and twenty kilos.

• 5:07Jonny?

  Seven thirty.

• 5:08Chris Williamson?

  Right, okay.

• 5:10Jonny?

  Do you track macros?

• 5:12Chris Williamson?

That's for all of us, obviously.

• 5:13Speaker 02

  No, not anymore.

• 5:15Jonny?

  I do.

• 5:16Chris Williamson?

  Do you?

• 5:16Speaker 02

We discussed this on a live stream the other day that we, we don't.

• 5:20Jonny?

  Well, no, I do.

• 5:21Speaker 02

We graduated from needing to, like years of tracking means that you build enough momentum to not need to anymore.

• 5:28Chris Williamson?

  I also don't track.

• 5:29Speaker 02

You can do it by feel.

• 5:30Jonny?

It's not fun for me to do them randomly. I mean, in order from top. I do, I do track. Why don't you do track?

• 5:38Speaker 02

  So I've, I've explained.

• 5:40Chris Williamson?

Um, it's just too much effort for me. However, I'm about to start with, uh, Tim from We Dominate Nutrition.

• 5:46Jonny?

  Okay.

• 5:46Chris Williamson?

And I'm also going to be on Warrior Programming as of the next couple of weeks. And as a part of that, I will be.

• 5:54Jonny?

  Track and macros.

• 5:55Chris Williamson?

I will be, uh, accountable. And if I don't, I will get shouted at of a guy who looks like Hitler's wet dream.

• 6:03Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 6:04Jonny?

I think if you aren't naturally.

• 6:09Jonny?

Absolutely, like you two are. Realistically, you should try macros.

• 6:16Jonny?

Yeah, I've. I think there's an argument to do it regardless, to be honest.

• 6:20Speaker 02

Well, ne- next time I diet, I am absolutely tracking macros.

• 6:22Jonny?

Do you think that'll ever happen?

• 6:24Speaker 02

Maybe not, like, but, uh, yeah, or if if I start doing a a ninety day push of focusing much more on physique, then. Yeah, like, once things start to stall out, the, I think we take the approach of if something is working, don't fix it, and then we add in. The levels of accuracy that are necessary to.

• 6:43Chris Williamson?

The problem for me, the problem for me with tracking macros is I'm not naturally tremendously good. I've had to. Use the six minute diary is the only way I've ever been able to journal with a three minute commitment in the morning and a three minute commitment at night. Naturally, I'm not a uh facts and figures driven person. And the same way as if you are an unpassionate person in a job against someone who is passionate. Takes so much more motivation to compete for me to be able to do what other people do seamlessly. Some people track their water intake, track. You know, everything.

• 7:14Jonny?

I struggle with that for some reason.

• 7:16Chris Williamson?

Water intake, but you find your food.

• 7:17Speaker 02

Well, what's the benefit to tracking your water intake? Like, much easier to just get a two liter bottle on your desk and fill it up.

• 7:23Chris Williamson?

Well, just learn, learn, if you learn the principles and embed the habits, after a while, you don't even need to do them anymore. Um, so, moving on.

• 7:30Jonny?

  I'd really.

• 7:33Jonny?

  Can't remember what it was.

• 7:34Chris Williamson?

  Come back to it.

• 7:35Jonny?

  Play, it's a tracking nutrition.

• 7:40Jonny?

What do your daily routines look like at the moment?

• 7:43Chris Williamson?

Who's that from? You're not, you're not doing the people it's from.

• 7:46Jonny?

You said don't read people out.

• 7:47Chris Williamson?

I said there's only a couple of people who ask to be anonymous.

• 7:50Jonny?

How am I supposed to know who those are?

• 7:51Chris Williamson?

  Because they say.

• 7:53Speaker 02

  Everyone else are of accent.

• 7:54Jonny?

  Roger that. Jordan airs.

• 7:56Chris Williamson?

Jordan, by the way, is uh sending me reading lists on almost a weekly basis over email, and they're all fantastic. Thanks a lot, but Jordan is.

• 8:05Speaker 02

He's done the same thing, Jordan, appreciate it.

• 8:07Chris Williamson?

  Man, he's awesome. So.

• 8:08Jonny?

I've not seen any of these.

• 8:09Chris Williamson?

Well, we'll, we'll link you in.

• 8:10Jonny?

How are you being sent them?

• 8:12Speaker 02

  Through propane inbox.

• 8:13Chris Williamson?

It's because you're not checking social media enough.

• 8:15Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 8:16Jonny?

  Instagram?

• 8:16Speaker 02

I respond to people on private.

• 8:18Chris Williamson?

  There we go.

• 8:22Chris Williamson?

What do our daily routines look like at the moment? Bloody hell. Um, okay, I'll be as.

• 8:28Jonny?

  Concise.

• 8:28Chris Williamson?

I'll take, I'll take the headlines as as much as I can. So, wake up.

• 8:34Chris Williamson?

Outside, so I'm doing sunlight exposure now, even if it's raining.

• 8:37Jonny?

You've read Orban Marcus, haven't you?

• 8:39Chris Williamson?

  No.

• 8:41Chris Williamson?

This is from Dr Greg Potter, who may or may not have been released on the Modern Wisdom YouTube channel.

• 8:47Jonny?

  I'm useless, is that?

• 8:48Chris Williamson?

  iTunes.

• 8:48Jonny?

Either in the past or the future.

• 8:50Chris Williamson?

Well, yeah, again, we've broken the fourth wall of the scheduling of podcasts.

• 8:54Jonny?

You pushed it, I tipped it earlier.

• 8:56Chris Williamson?

Yeah, fine, okay. So, um, light exposure as soon as I get up, coffee, porridge, water, sit down, meditate, journal, sorry, journal, read, meditate, none of the while looking at my phone. Then get up, prep my food if I need to prep, if not, I've got a food prepping company that's doing it for me. Thank you very much, Spoonhead Nutrition.

• 9:21Chris Williamson?

Head to the gym, train, head to the office, work, come home. And then either my evening routine needs optimizing into where I'm worst at the moment, and it tends to be Netflix at the moment, chill out. I'm dialing back my double screening of phone and TV. And if not, I'll be at work or I'll be doing something social or potentially training twice if I've got it in me. How about you guys? Yusuf?

• 9:50Speaker 02

Up, train, come home, cold shower, meditate, get ready for hospital. Go in, come back.

• 9:58Chris Williamson?

  Get battered by the NHS.

• 9:59Jonny?

  Admit yourself to it, innit?

• 10:00Speaker 02

  Admit myself to it.

• 10:03Chris Williamson?

  Get ready for hospital.

• 10:04Jonny?

I still feel whenever you say, I've got to go to hospital, my initial reaction is like, oh my god, are you okay? I never get used to it.

• 10:11Chris Williamson?

  I'm off to graft.

• 10:11Speaker 02

Yeah, I have to clarify, like, you put a shirt on, put a name tag on, go to hospital, totally fine.

• 10:19Speaker 02

Stand around at hospital for a while, come home, work on various projects. And recently, it's the bedtime routine that's been the big thing for me.

• 10:28Chris Williamson?

  Thought you might.

• 10:29Speaker 02

Yeah, so just trying to minimize screen time post nine PM is the biggest bad habit that I have, which it, and it's not even fun procrastination stuff, it's like shitty admin that's just low level stress and keeps the mind momentum going before you go to sleep. So eliminating that red light, magnesium spray or ZMA.

• 10:49Chris Williamson?

Where are you using magnesium spray? Low back?

• 10:51Speaker 02

  Low back and bum.

• 10:53Chris Williamson?

  And bum?

• 10:54Speaker 02

  In and around my bum.

• 10:55Jonny?

  Whole? Anus or bum?

• 10:59Speaker 02

For some reason, I thought hole, like the hole bum.

• 11:03Speaker 02

Not the bum hole. Um, yeah.

• 11:05Jonny?

  The bum as a hole.

• 11:06Speaker 02

I mean, that that routine has collapsed this week.

• 11:10Chris Williamson?

  My, um.

• 11:10Speaker 02

  We've had a big push.

• 11:11Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 11:12Chris Williamson?

But it's weird, isn't it? Like your evening routine is so much fucking harder.

• 11:15Speaker 02

Well, we were saying is that the the times that routine collapses and the self care routines are the first things to go, even though they should be.

• 11:23Chris Williamson?

  When they're most needed.

• 11:24Speaker 02

  Exactly.

• 11:24Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 11:25Chris Williamson?

It's when you're the most stressed that you meditate the least, which is exactly when you fucking need it, yeah.

• 11:29Speaker 02

And then you just fall through the day.

• 11:30Chris Williamson?

  Tell, tell us.

• 11:31Jonny?

  Um.

• 11:33Chris Williamson?

Cause you're the one that's gonna be trialing something from Aubrey Marcus. Are you having a bone, are you having a bone broth?

• 11:38Jonny?

I, to be honest, I, the book annoyed me quite a lot.

• 11:42Chris Williamson?

Save the day by Aubrey Marcus.

• 11:43Jonny?

I think it leads you in thinking, there's some decent suggestions here, like the the hydration thing in the morning's interesting.

• 11:49Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 11:50Jonny?

The light exposure is interesting. And then it just.

• 11:52Chris Williamson?

Before he knows it, you you'd be, you're throwing up in a bucket after letting another man have sex with your wife.

• 11:56Jonny?

Yeah, well, and like, the, he argues the way that he's running a massive private company in America is because he uses a certain type of incense in his office. And I'm sorry, I just don't buy stuff like that. Moving on. Um, so my routine is, uh, probably very similar. I do Ron Wood in the morning.

• 12:15Chris Williamson?

  Yep.

• 12:15Jonny?

I meditate in the morning. Uh, I try and read or listen to something in the morning, normally listen on Audible.

• 12:21Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 12:22Jonny?

Um, I do something called The Work by Byron Katie, which is, has been massively helpful. Um, I keep trying to lend Chris the book, but he just doesn't want it. Um, I journal in an Evernote file. That's got like over two hundred entries in that now, just some interesting reading.

• 12:39Chris Williamson?

  Nice.

• 12:40Jonny?

  What else do I do?

• 12:42Jonny?

  That's it. That's it. I've tried.

• 12:43Chris Williamson?

  Training.

• 12:45Jonny?

So, uh, actually recently I've been trying, been trying training later in the day.

• 12:49Chris Williamson?

  Okay.

• 12:49Jonny?

  Um.

• 12:49Chris Williamson?

After only just beginning to try to try training earlier.

• 12:52Jonny?

So I did, I did training in the morning for six months, more or less.

• 12:56Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 12:56Jonny?

Um, and it is good, but the trouble was just the amount of my, you get to this point, and I know it's, you start work later and finish work later.

• 13:04Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 13:04Jonny?

I have this natural kind of. Disruption to my day from a work perspective, because my girlfriend gets home at a certain time, like to continue working feels wrong. So I've got this like window where I've got to get my work done. Um, and the later I start, the more.

• 13:19Chris Williamson?

So what you're saying is that if your girlfriend gets home and you're working, that's a problem. But if your girlfriend gets home and you're not at home because you're at the gym.

• 13:27Jonny?

Well, so what I've been trying to do recently, uh, we had a business coach probably a year ago. And I was talking to him about this. I was like, I always struggle to like arrange these pieces of my days that it's just kind of, I run into the fewest problems. He was just like, just stop work at three P M. And I told you about this.

• 13:43Speaker 02

Parkinson's law just means that you just.

• 13:46Jonny?

I've done it two days this week. I find it really, really difficult to do. It's like start, do all those habits, start work, finish at three P M. And lo and behold, on those days, got more work done. And then go to the gym, but you go to the gym at that time and there's just loads of people.

• 14:01Chris Williamson?

  More traffic, busy gym.

• 14:03Jonny?

So I'm still searching for. The best time to train, but.

• 14:06Speaker 02

The traffic's the problem, whereas like I'm cycling two hundred metres, listening to audiobooks on five times speed.

• 14:13Jonny?

To be honest, the traffic in the gym, like the people in the gym are as more the problem, like getting the barbell, getting space to squat a dead.

• 14:19Chris Williamson?

And you're training in a gym, which is much more, well, it's massive.

• 14:24Jonny?

  But yeah.

• 14:25Chris Williamson?

Much better facilitate. I reckon, I reckon doing it in order is gonna miss out some of the real good ones, because we're not gonna have time to go through everything.

• 14:32Jonny?

Alright, do you want me to just use my.

• 14:33Speaker 02

We'll go in order, but then just skip the shit ones. And then we can always come back and.

• 14:38Jonny?

What's the largest animal you could single-handedly cling film to a lamp post?

• 14:42Chris Williamson?

  Who's that?

• 14:43Jonny?

Sorry, Rob Ransom. Recognize that name?

• 14:46Speaker 02

  Horse, because.

• 14:47Jonny?

  No, fuck off, a horse.

• 14:49Speaker 02

But because, uh, horses, their horses' brains are like this big, like they're not going to, I think if you can catch it in a.

• 14:56Chris Williamson?

I think what you're talking, what we're talking about here is how docile is the animal?

• 14:59Speaker 02

  Exactly, yeah.

• 14:59Jonny?

I'm, so I'm imagining it's off the ground.

• 15:02Speaker 02

  Oh, so you like.

• 15:03Jonny?

Well, yeah, cause otherwise, otherwise you just push anything up against a tree.

• 15:06Chris Williamson?

Right, okay, so do that, do that to a leopard.

• 15:09Speaker 02

  Oh, God.

• 15:09Jonny?

  A leopard?

• 15:10Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 15:10Speaker 02

It's not even that large, a leopard.

• 15:11Chris Williamson?

Right, yeah, so try and do that to a leopard, so you're dead.

• 15:14Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 15:14Jonny?

  I see.

• 15:15Chris Williamson?

Try and do that to an elephant and it's gonna break through the cling film unless you can use like an industrial sized roll.

• 15:19Speaker 02

Elephants, uh, yeah, like I met one a few weeks ago and it like realised how.

• 15:24Jonny?

  How was it?

• 15:26Speaker 02

They're, they're, so they're really nice, but they're just like if one, they're quite clumsy.

• 15:30Jonny?

  Big old head, isn't it?

• 15:31Speaker 02

  Like, oh, single heads.

• 15:32Chris Williamson?

  Two dimensional foot.

• 15:33Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 15:34Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, okay.

• 15:35Jonny?

  Um.

• 15:35Chris Williamson?

Single handedly cling film to a lamppost.

• 15:40Jonny?

Like, okay, if it can, if it can be on the ground, panda.

• 15:45Speaker 02

  Panda.

• 15:46Chris Williamson?

Panda, have you ever seen someone just try and make a panda not roll down a hill? They're so naughty, they would not stay still at all.

• 15:53Jonny?

I think I could lure a panda into a position that would allow me to place a bamboo. Cause what you, what you'd have to do, stand with the, see, peel a bit off the cling film, grab it. Throw the other bit over, like, try and throw it round and then run round, catch it.

• 16:07Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 16:08Speaker 02

It's, it's gonna get spooked with that, I think.

• 16:09Chris Williamson?

Yeah, you're moving far too quickly.

• 16:11Speaker 02

Even though pandas are a nice bear.

• 16:12Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 16:13Chris Williamson?

What's really big, well, I mean, okay, how about this?

• 16:16Jonny?

  Panda.

• 16:17Chris Williamson?

  Blue whale.

• 16:18Jonny?

  Blue whale.

• 16:19Speaker 02

  Yeah, fine.

• 16:20Chris Williamson?

  Where's it going?

• 16:21Jonny?

I think it's more if it starts to thrash. Like if a blue whale thrashes, esp- there's a thing about like the, when it flips its tail, if you're anywhere near, like the, the vibration can kill you.

• 16:32Chris Williamson?

  Under the water?

• 16:33Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 16:33Chris Williamson?

  Oh, my God.

• 16:34Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 16:34Chris Williamson?

Were you not under the water?

• 16:35Jonny?

I know, if it does. If it's flopping around in like a park next to a tree and there's you with your roll of cling film.

• 16:42Chris Williamson?

  Is it not a lamppost?

• 16:43Jonny?

  It is a lamppost.

• 16:44Chris Williamson?

So what's it doing next to this tree?

• 16:46Jonny?

Well, I'm in a park. So you, you're on a street with a blue whale, which for reference.

• 16:51Chris Williamson?

It's gonna be a big street.

• 16:54Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 16:54Chris Williamson?

Big street running for kilometres with a really big roll.

• 16:57Jonny?

  Kilometres.

• 16:58Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, really big roll.

• 16:59Jonny?

  Kilometres.

• 17:00Chris Williamson?

All right, well, I mean, to wrap it, it's gonna be kilometers.

• 17:02Speaker 02

Miles and inch, running inches and and and stones everywhere.

• 17:08Chris Williamson?

Okay, so I think I think that.

• 17:10Jonny?

  Penguin, definitely do a penguin.

• 17:13Chris Williamson?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, that well, the thing is, they've got, they're gonna have their, um, extensors. That, uh, quads and they're just not gonna be able to, like, how much power and have they got in their feet?

• 17:24Jonny?

Yeah, I think you could, you could, you could.

• 17:28Chris Williamson?

  One hand.

• 17:28Jonny?

  I guess, yeah.

• 17:29Chris Williamson?

One hand and just wrap it.

• 17:30Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 17:30Chris Williamson?

Yeah, cool. Okay, yeah, I like a penguin.

• 17:32Jonny?

I think you go a bit bigger than a penguin, maybe.

• 17:34Chris Williamson?

I think funniest animal that you could do to that would be something like a flamingo. Because it would just be, it would just be its single head poking up and over, yeah.

• 17:44Jonny?

  Yeah, sloth.

• 17:47Chris Williamson?

  Because it moves slow.

• 17:47Speaker 02

  Sloths love it.

• 17:48Chris Williamson?

  It's got very, very sharp.

• 17:49Jonny?

  And they're weird, aren't they?

• 17:50Chris Williamson?

  Sloths are weird.

• 17:52Jonny?

Um, you can talk to dogs for sixty seconds, what do you say?

• 17:55Chris Williamson?

  That's not what it said.

• 17:56Jonny?

  You.

• 17:57Chris Williamson?

  Who's it from as well?

• 17:58Jonny?

  Andy Stoco.

• 18:00Speaker 02

  Andy Stoco.

• 18:01Jonny?

You can talk to doggos for sixty seconds, what do you say? Is that because you write doggo on everything?

• 18:08Chris Williamson?

He does, and we got it from each other.

• 18:10Jonny?

Got it, you got it from each other.

• 18:12Chris Williamson?

  Uh.

• 18:13Jonny?

  Matter.

• 18:14Chris Williamson?

Andy, I would ask, why do you sniff other dogs' bums?

• 18:20Jonny?

  Really?

• 18:20Chris Williamson?

  And lick of the dog's.

• 18:21Jonny?

  You've got sixty seconds.

• 18:23Chris Williamson?

Okay, so that's the first thing that I can ask. I have sixty seconds, I don't have one question.

• 18:27Jonny?

What if it goes, well, Chris, it's quite complex, so and then.

• 18:30Chris Williamson?

  I'll go. Can we please?

• 18:35Speaker 02

You see, the pheromonal evolution of our species is involved with the, uh, the smell and the crotch of the other dogs.

• 18:42Chris Williamson?

It depends on, it depends on who, which sort of a dog we're speaking to.

• 18:45Jonny?

I would ask it, are you aware of the concept of I?

• 18:50Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 18:52Chris Williamson?

  Okay.

• 18:55Chris Williamson?

What would you, what would you ask?

• 18:56Speaker 02

I'd speak to the dog with psychomotor retardation that we, we had a day with and just say like, it's okay, man. Like, life is worth living.

• 19:04Chris Williamson?

Yeah. We, we, we, uh, we, mum. All right. We went to, we went to look after a greyhound that was clinically depressed and had psychomotor retardation. Um, and we thought we were doing something really nice for it. And it turned out that it just didn't want to live, really, did it? We threw a ball towards it and it flinched. And, um, yeah, I'd like, I'd quite like to ask that dog what, what was wrong with it.

• 19:28Jonny?

  What was going on?

• 19:29Chris Williamson?

Yeah. I'd like to ask Andy's dog why it decided to eat half a kilo of raw cacao. Which is the active ingredient in chocolate that kills dogs and would have been the equivalent of eating fifteen kilos of chocolate. And then it had to be taken to the vets to make itself sick.

• 19:42Jonny?

  But it was okay?

• 19:43Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, it's fine.

• 19:44Speaker 02

Wow. I mean, to have such a big poison to it.

• 19:46Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 19:46Jonny?

So, there's a view that are directed at Yusuf. So what's it like being J, J, J leader? J, J I leader? Has asked Yusuf, what is, what's it like being the most handsome man in the North East?

• 20:00Speaker 02

It's, it's tough. Um, I think sometimes I'm having to just beat people off with a stick.

• 20:07Chris Williamson?

Hold on, what do you mean by beat people off?

• 20:09Speaker 02

  It's actually not directed.

• 20:10Chris Williamson?

  Beat people off?

• 20:16Speaker 02

But, but that's very, very kind of you, but unfortunately the, uh, question wasn't just directed at me.

• 20:23Jonny?

Chris, what was it like? What's it like?

• 20:26Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, it's fun.

• 20:28Jonny?

Best answer you could have given. Top tips for, so Birch three one oh seven has asked, top tips to get massive falling caps doing CrossFit?

• 20:39Chris Williamson?

  Good question.

• 20:39Speaker 02

Um. It's not a pack of Birch, is it?

• 20:41Jonny?

No. Not with a photo of a man holding a. Log?

• 20:47Chris Williamson?

Um, I would say tips, tips for getting massive doing CrossFit. Just eat as you, eat as you feel that you need to, because the output that you're going to be doing is so much greater than you're used to. Let's say that in a typical session, like a typical bodybuilding or fitness session, your total reps will be maybe a hundred, something like that, a hundred or one twenty.

• 21:10Jonny?

  Okay.

• 21:10Chris Williamson?

Like across all movements, across all reps.

• 21:12Jonny?

Three sets of ten or four movements, yeah?

• 21:14Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 21:14Jonny?

  So.

• 21:15Chris Williamson?

Yeah, there you go. Whereas in a lot of CrossFit chippers, which is where you've got multiple movements. You're going to be talking like upwards of three hundred or four hundred. So, yeah, it's going to be a lower, your output's going to be high. Basically, and you're going to be potentially training higher intensities more frequently, once or twice a day. So just eat as much as you can. If you want to get massive and if you want to use it to put on mass, I would eat as much Soreen as is possible. I would put.

• 21:44Jonny?

  Soreen maltloaf.

• 21:45Chris Williamson?

Maltadextrin in your post-workout shake and I would have, um. I'd have a spoonful of honey with every meal. I wouldn't do that last one, that's a lie. Can you read the very bottom screenshot, please? Very bottom one.

• 22:04Jonny?

  By DJ Slacky Eighty, no.

• 22:07Chris Williamson?

  Very bottom.

• 22:08Jonny?

  The one about Tinder.

• 22:08Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 22:12Jonny?

Wish I was in close proximity so I could match him up on Tinder.

• 22:16Chris Williamson?

  And that was a screenshot.

• 22:17Jonny?

  Eyes, eyes, eyes.

• 22:18Chris Williamson?

That was a screenshot of you, Johnny.

• 22:20Jonny?

  Twas, twas indeed.

• 22:22Chris Williamson?

Wish I was in close enough proximity so that I can match up on Tinder. Now, what was, oh, we didn't, I didn't put the name in. And what you can do, for whoever it was that asked that question, it shall remain anonymous. Buy Tinder Gold.

• 22:34Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 22:34Chris Williamson?

And you can actually change your location. Find out where Johnny lives.

• 22:38Jonny?

What's the purpose? Is that if you're going somewhere, like Iceland for example, that you can pre?

• 22:43Chris Williamson?

  Drop yourself in advance.

• 22:44Jonny?

If you go into Iceland, then you're an ortho, ortho, ortho, ortho. Ortho, ortho, uh, ortho, ortho. Uh, ortho, ortho. That's it. There it is. Expert of birds.

• 22:53Chris Williamson?

There it is. Right, what's next?

• 22:55Jonny?

Uh, some cracking ones here. Where do you see yourself in five years, Johnny?

• 23:05Jonny?

  Um.

• 23:10Chris Williamson?

Got to go for ideal scenario.

• 23:11Jonny?

Okay, uh propane's massive, I'm massive and loads of stuff in my life's massive.

• 23:20Chris Williamson?

  Penis?

• 23:21Jonny?

Oh, that's fine as it is.

• 23:22Chris Williamson?

  Okay.

• 23:23Jonny?

I think if it if that's scaled at the same rate, it'd be problematic.

• 23:28Jonny?

Scale at the same rate as.

• 23:29Speaker 02

Then you'll have a relatively small penis if everything else is massive.

• 23:33Jonny?

  Got it.

• 23:33Chris Williamson?

You're gonna be like a gorilla.

• 23:34Jonny?

So I'd I'd like to improve multiple skills physically, um more than that in a later episode, maybe. Um propane, great, enjoy doing it, want it to continue, grow, help more people. Um personally, I'd like to have explored meditation, self self-development a lot more. I want to do at least one meditation retreat, see what that's like. Um, what else?

• 24:04Jonny?

That's all I can think of.

• 24:04Speaker 02

That's cool, man. Yusuf? I'd like to be in a pair of long trousers down, yeah, down to my ankles plus brogues. Um, the, like, my answer's probably very similar to yours, Johnny, so I'm not gonna, I'm gonna bore everyone.

• 24:20Jonny?

  More propane.

• 24:21Speaker 02

More, more propane, more brogues and long trousers. I hope one day to be able to buy a pair of trousers that.

• 24:28Jonny?

  Long trousers.

• 24:28Speaker 02

Cover my whole legs. Yeah, it'd be nice.

• 24:31Jonny?

You're gonna be a doctor, a doctor propane.

• 24:32Chris Williamson?

I'm gonna be a doctor. I mean, at the very least, you want to be a doctor because you're almost a doctor now.

• 24:37Speaker 02

Yeah, it's it's funny because now being eighty percent doctor, but materially doesn't like makes.

• 24:44Jonny?

  Exactly the same, yeah.

• 24:45Speaker 02

And then it's only when you're a hundred percent doctor that there's a.

• 24:48Jonny?

  What about spiritually?

• 24:50Speaker 02

I think more retreats as well, spending three months of total time under retreat would be lovely.

• 24:55Jonny?

  Under retreat?

• 24:55Speaker 02

  Under retreat.

• 24:56Jonny?

  Sounds so intense, doesn't it?

• 24:58Speaker 02

Five years is is not that long though, is it, to get to accumulate, oh man, kiddy ups.

• 25:04Jonny?

You've got to do what you'd be looking at.

• 25:07Jonny?

  What's the frequency of that?

• 25:08Speaker 02

It's about fifteen days a year, isn't it? So, oh no.

• 25:11Jonny?

It's more than one a year. Maybe twenty.

• 25:13Chris Williamson?

Um, so for me, um, at the moment, I'd quite like Voodoo to continue doing what it's doing. I think that there is a bit of a glass ceiling with regards to club nights and stuff like that. And I think that we're we're kind of close to saturation. Newcastle City Council aren't granting any new licences to licence premises in Newcastle, so because of them.

• 25:32Speaker 02

  They've fully stopped.

• 25:33Chris Williamson?

They haven't done for as long as I can remember. So, like, literally five years.

• 25:36Speaker 02

Are they trying to curb binge drinking?

• 25:38Chris Williamson?

They just don't want, they don't want any new, any more nightlife. They're okay with the volume of nightlife they don't want anymore. So, we're restricted in Newcastle with regards to work. Um, I would like to have competed in my, ideally won, but at least competed in my first CrossFit competition. That's a goal of mine over the next couple of years. I would.

• 25:55Jonny?

  That's separate to the open.

• 25:57Chris Williamson?

Yeah, like, so competing, competing in CrossFit comp, like Glacier Games or Rain Hill Trials, so the same as you go into an actual meet.

• 26:04Jonny?

  Got it.

• 26:05Chris Williamson?

And then I would quite like Modern Wisdom YouTube channel to hit hundred, hundred K subscribers. I think within five years, that's easily doable. Like, within two years, it should be doable. Um, and continue

• 26:21Chris Williamson?

continue helping people with the podcast because it's incredibly fulfilling to me and it's very, uh, it's new ground for me. So every day that I get to do, it's a bit of an adventure.

• 26:30Speaker 02

All, all of us, it involves serving more people and growing more as people.

• 26:34Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, for sure.

• 26:35Speaker 02

  Great.

• 26:36Jonny?

Uh, where is your favourite place to be? Sophie Alarkin, Sophia Larkin has asked that.

• 26:44Chris Williamson?

Where is my favourite place to be?

• 26:45Jonny?

  To be.

• 26:46Chris Williamson?

Probably embarrassing me in the gym.

• 26:48Jonny?

  Okay.

• 26:50Speaker 02

It has, has to be home.

• 26:54Speaker 02

It has to be at home, otherwise what are you doing if you're in a place that you, you don't like and there's a, there's a separate place that you like being? I'm assuming like you mean city or.

• 27:05Jonny?

I think, well, I think it's, so for me, when I read that question, I immediately think of, um.

• 27:12Speaker 02

  Who's that?

• 27:13Jonny?

You put your phone back on.

• 27:16Chris Williamson?

  You put your phone off.

• 27:17Jonny?

  Let's go.

• 27:19Chris Williamson?

  Where are you going?

• 27:19Jonny?

It was about to fall off.

• 27:22Chris Williamson?

  No, it's not.

• 27:23Jonny?

  It, it, it moved.

• 27:25Chris Williamson?

Has that stopped it recording as well?

• 27:27Jonny?

  It has.

• 27:29Speaker 02

Was that, was that moment saying you've used too much screen time or something?

• 27:34Jonny?

No, no, it was my mother.

• 27:36Chris Williamson?

Sorry, Johnny's mother. Anyway, um, what's next? Just read one.

• 27:41Speaker 02

How would your life be different if you weren't on Love Island, Chris?

• 27:45Chris Williamson?

I get asked this question quite a lot, actually. I think this is duplicated a number of times. Who was it?

• 27:51Speaker 02

  Vison Assyri.

• 27:53Chris Williamson?

Nice. Well pronounced as well. Um. Interesting question. Again, it'll probably be quite unsatisfactory compared with what you think. I'm gonna answer. So it would be that I would be in a. My exposure would have been increased or something like that, like, you know, it's propelled me towards. Stardom and stuff like that, whereas quite to the contrary, it, as we learned on the Love Island podcast. It was the beginning of a. A little bit of a journey towards virtue because there was a difference between what I realised I was pretending to be and publicly was being and what I was. With regards to my own integrity and stuff like that. So.

• 28:33Chris Williamson?

Yeah, I, um, I think I would have still arrived at this point of. Doing more introspective work and challenging my own assumptions and kind of. Turning over. The rocks of your life, for want of a better term, and looking at what's underneath, whether it's sort of good or bad. But I don't think that it would have happened as quickly. So for that, I literally can't be any more grateful for the Love Island experience because it was a kick up the arse that I needed, I think.

• 29:00Speaker 02

So you were on that trajectory, but it just catalyzed the process.

• 29:04Jonny?

It's a real line in the sand for you, I think, wasn't it?

• 29:06Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, very much so.

• 29:08Speaker 02

  Thoughts on drug use?

• 29:11Jonny?

So I'm trying to, I'm trying to pick, um. From different people. But we'll do that one.

• 29:17Speaker 02

  From the same person.

• 29:18Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, yes.

• 29:19Speaker 02

Thoughts on drug use and lifting at a strong level compared to the average gym goer from the same person?

• 29:26Speaker 02

Depends what you define as strong, because some people are like, oh, I've benched a hundred kilos, time to get on the gear. And some would consider.

• 29:34Jonny?

  I think they're separate questions.

• 29:38Jonny?

Just to maybe allow you to get into each concept a bit more.

• 29:40Speaker 02

  At a strong level.

• 29:41Jonny?

So what are your thoughts compared to the average younger? What are your thoughts on drug use? Sterile use, what are your thoughts?

• 29:49Speaker 02

If it's in, if it's in a, if it's sanctioned in a sport, then.

• 29:53Jonny?

Hmm. I think as long as you are not competing in something. That is, that has a rule that says you shouldn't take drugs and you're saying, I'm not taking drugs.

• 30:01Speaker 02

Yeah, my, my, my, my view is don't cheat in sports rather than.

• 30:05Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 30:05Speaker 02

  Do or don't take drugs.

• 30:06Jonny?

That's a much better way of putting it.

• 30:07Chris Williamson?

Yeah, I would agree as well. People can do, people can put into their own bodies, whatever they want.

• 30:12Speaker 02

But you, you're gonna have to bear the consequence of that. And the more niche drugs you put into your body, the fewer endocrinologists are gonna be able to.

• 30:19Chris Williamson?

Work on what the fuck's going on with you, yeah.

• 30:21Jonny?

I like, like, learn about what you're going to do before you do it. Do it.

• 30:25Chris Williamson?

  Or find someone who knows.

• 30:26Jonny?

  Cause it's a different language.

• 30:28Speaker 02

Yeah, so just, just go on some forum, find some pro scientist that you have no idea who he is and just take their advice.

• 30:34Chris Williamson?

It's one, it's one of those things, like you can get, you can get advice about. Stuff that has less dire consequences of people and you can go on like just.

• 30:47Chris Williamson?

Colloquial, local, inexpert advice. But really biology is one of those things you can't cheat too much. Like I wouldn't, I wouldn't be fucking about with your hormonal system.

• 31:00Jonny?

  Absolutely. Absolutely.

• 31:02Chris Williamson?

Uh, on the side, uh, on the side of safety.

• 31:04Jonny?

I, I'm like, really think about what you're going, what you're doing before you do it. I think far too many people. People who've asked us, throw by some questions on this, have said like, oh, I just started, blah, blah, blah.

• 31:15Speaker 02

It's like this decision has permanent consequences.

• 31:17Jonny?

Yeah. So that really like, you're not, you're not just sort of. Making a decision that might affect the next couple of months. Like it might affect the rest of your life. So give it the, the respect it's due.

• 31:27Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 31:28Jonny?

Um, lifting at a strong level compared to average younger, you're right, they probably were linked, weren't they? I'm really sorry.

• 31:34Chris Williamson?

I think it's one. We've got, we've done that one on the next question.

• 31:36Jonny?

  Um.

• 31:41Jonny?

What is the one book article podcast you've, do you, what's the one, one book article podcast you find yourself returning to the most by George McGill?

• 31:54Speaker 02

It's, for me, it's Modern Wisdom with Chris Williamson.

• 31:57Jonny?

  Thank you very much.

• 31:58Speaker 02

I've been returning to this house to record more of his fucking podcasts over and over again. And then he brought this fan out and he keeps feeding me caffeinated drinks.

• 32:10Jonny?

Mine is a, it's a Tim Ferriss article and podcast called, um, Productivity Advice For The Manic, Depressive And Crazy Like Me. And it's like 10 minutes long and it's basically just something that we talk about all the time, which is like, we, everyone focuses on, everyone thinks that the people that they follow online are these pictures of efficiency, productivity and everything in their life is great. That's very rarely the case.

• 32:40Speaker 02

  Paragon of virtue.

• 32:41Jonny?

Paragon. But the people who are getting loads of stuff done in their life typically are fantastic at prioritizing, just focusing on one thing at a time. And so his advice is like, like one thing to do every day, and just do that for two or three hours.

• 32:55Speaker 02

As Dr, as Dr Ewan Lawson said on, uh, Your Desk Is Killing You, the podcast I did recently, multitasking is for muppets. Hmm. But it feels like you're being more productive.

• 33:05Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 33:06Speaker 02

Like the, the sensation of time passing accelerates when you're switching between tabs and doing things. You go, oh, I'm blasting through this. But actually total output is terrible if you're doing A, B, C, D, as opposed to just A, A, A, A.

• 33:19Jonny?

  Exactly what.

• 33:19Speaker 02

  And then B.

• 33:20Jonny?

Exactly what Peter C. Brown says in Make It Stick on a recent podcast, which may or may not have been published before this one as well.

• 33:26Speaker 02

  The pastoral teacher.

• 33:27Jonny?

  Yeah. Focus. How about you?

• 33:30Speaker 02

I I would also like where this question's come from, that it's what's the one thing that you find yourself returning to the most?

• 33:35Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 33:35Speaker 02

Cause I think it's very easy to read an article like the manic depressive Tim Ferriss article and be like, oh my God, that's such good advice. Great. And then two weeks later.

• 33:43Chris Williamson?

  It's gone.

• 33:44Speaker 02

You've forgotten it and like, but actually the, and then you keep searching for new information and new stuff, but you're like, well, I found the answer. The the solution is not in more information, it's in implementing the good advice already. And so like, if you use Evernote, and we'll discuss this in life hacks, like save something down, put it into your shortcuts, set daily reminders for it or weekly reminders and just

• 34:03Chris Williamson?

go back to it. So what's yours?

• 34:05Speaker 02

Um, I've got, there's a few that I've condensed into that. So I've made it into a kind of bespoke thing that's kind of an amalgam from a bunch of, but Tim Ferriss is fantastic, like, uh, James Clear, pretty good. I I can share my list of.

• 34:20Chris Williamson?

There's not one article or something that you've read where you're like that or a video that you keep going back to. Thing had a big impact on me or.

• 34:27Speaker 02

Anything that I find like that, I I put it into the.

• 34:30Chris Williamson?

You you like to condense and distill down, right?

• 34:32Speaker 02

Yeah, so like, like at at Propane, we are, yeah, we're condensers and distillers of information. And so like there are, we, we, we do that. And so I suppose if you follow our podcast, it's very similar to Chris's and like, it's the condensation of all of those.

• 34:47Chris Williamson?

So for me, um, unsurprisingly, Jordan Peterson's probably had the single, in terms of a thinker, the single biggest impact on me. The concept of taking responsibility and trying to shift the world as much towards good by being virtuous and enacting the logos as you can. And if it was a single video, it's one that we mentioned in the Relationships 101 podcast, which was Why We're Fated to be Lonely by Alan de Botten on the School of Life. And I'll make sure that it's in the show notes below or just search it on YouTube. Six minutes and it completely, it completely flipped my worldview on how to, how to judge

• 35:33Chris Williamson?

the quote, it is both a blessing and a curse to feel everything so very deeply. It just turned into a blessing for me.

• 35:42Chris Williamson?

And the curse, the curse was a byproduct, the same way that a light bulb gives off light, light, but it also gives off heat. So, yeah.

• 35:49Jonny?

Ten Tips For Financial Success by Anton Creel.

• 35:51Speaker 02

  Oh, that's a good one.

• 35:53Jonny?

Uh categorically, that, that, it was on YouTube. I remember the day it was released, I was driving to my job and I listened to it, got out the car and was like, I'm quitting my job.

• 36:04Speaker 02

You sounded a lot like a guy called Anton Creel, was it Chris? Whoever commented on that, we're well aware of Anton Creel, big fans.

• 36:13Jonny?

  Alan Watts, is it?

• 36:14Speaker 02

You said, what, Chris sounds like Alan.

• 36:17Jonny?

No, no, no, no, the philosopher, Alan, is that, is that who he is?

• 36:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:20Jonny?

There's a, there's a bit where he's talking about, um, how to decide what you wanna do. And it's like, what would you do if only there was no object? And he's working through that example. That's also fantastic.

• 36:28Speaker 02

  Right, what's next?

• 36:30Jonny?

What do you think is the best thing you can add to the world or people around you by Spark Fit?

• 36:37Speaker 02

  Bloody hell, Yusuf.

• 36:40Speaker 02

What's the best thing that you can add?

• 36:42Jonny?

  To the world.

• 36:43Speaker 02

What can you, what can you give?

• 36:44Jonny?

Like, what are you, what are you contributing to the world?

• 36:48Speaker 02

Are they asking in general or?

• 36:50Jonny?

  What do you mean?

• 36:51Speaker 02

  Personally.

• 36:51Jonny?

  Uh, you.

• 36:52Speaker 02

Like, so us personally, it's everything we put across on propane, like helping people grow mentally, physically, spiritually, like. Being, being able to do that with the minimum effective dose. Um, in general, it just depends on what you're, what you're calling, what the value that you can add to.

• 37:08Jonny?

I think they're talking about you.

• 37:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:11Jonny?

I think just try to leave as many people as possible in a better place, like try and have a positive effect on the world. So that's really what we're trying to do.

• 37:21Speaker 02

Yeah, well, there's someone who took that and he, that was the advice that he got from his late granddad and he said, like. Just anything you touch, leave it in a better state than when you found it. So whether it's a bathroom or a person, just always add value. And I think we just talked about relationships, like I think in long-term relationships, if you can do whatever you can to upgrade. The person that you're with and then you leave them with a legacy that's like, after you've gone, they've, and you know, you say. Have friends that want the best for you.

• 37:52Chris Williamson?

Yeah, I think for me at the moment, my, what feels like a little bit of a calling is helping people to understand themselves because our own minds can be pretty vicious beasts sometimes. And I think that this channel is quite swiftly becoming a portal for advice and things that I wish that I'd known 10 years ago. And by being able to give that to people, remembering that my job is dealing with people who are exactly 10 years younger than me, pretty much. So I'm practising it and now I have the beginning of a platform to actually be able to, you know, there's an endless seven billion people that could potentially tap into this kind of advice.

• 38:35Chris Williamson?

And yeah, expediting people from avoiding, expediting people's capacity to avoid pitfalls and achieve goals.

• 38:49Speaker 02

How was Love Island asks, pizza for glue.

• 38:53Chris Williamson?

  Watch the fucking podcast.

• 38:54Jonny?

Yeah, I think all of the Love Island questions, the best question is just go watch that, go watch that podcast.

• 39:01Speaker 02

  Newcastle or Sunderland?

• 39:03Chris Williamson?

My dad's a Macam and I'm from Middlesbrough, so.

• 39:06Jonny?

  So Newcastle.

• 39:07Chris Williamson?

  Newcastle, yeah, there you go.

• 39:12Jonny?

There's one about, so MV Hunter has asked for advice on getting a gym and food routine after moving overseas. You recorded a good podcast for us about that, right?

• 39:22Speaker 02

Yeah, so, well, that, that, yeah, that was about.

• 39:24Chris Williamson?

  How to get lean.

• 39:25Speaker 02

Getting lean for summer, getting back into a routine. I think don't think of your previous PBs as the things to shoot for, like reset the standards and just start from the beginning again.

• 39:36Chris Williamson?

I think, I think focusing on basics. So get up at the same time every day. Learn what your macros target should be ish. Learn what the meals are that you need to cook for those and then deal with that. Get yourself to the gym, get a good training split, whatever the methodology is, whether it be CrossFit, whether it be strength training, whether it be bodybuilding, whether it be yoga or Zumba or whatever it is, make sure that it's consistent, aim to do it at least sort of three to five times a week. And enjoy, like if you enjoy your training methodology, everything else will fall into place because you'll need to eat to support it. You'll need to sleep to support it. You'll want to perform as best as you can within that methodology. And you'll want to train more, you'll like, I train two times a day sometimes. And I don't, it doesn't feel like.

• 40:22Chris Williamson?

It it doesn't feel like a labour to me. It feels like a love.

• 40:24Jonny?

  Something you want to do.

• 40:25Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 40:26Jonny?

I think the currency with success in this respect is the momentum you create by being consistent. And so if you've been doing something as Chris described for six months, you're in such a deep crevice that you create.

• 40:40Chris Williamson?

  Grease the groove, right?

• 40:40Jonny?

Falling out of that's actually quite difficult to do. It's harder to have a week where you completely mess up your nutrition.

• 40:45Chris Williamson?

  Pain of stopping, it's great.

• 40:46Jonny?

  Exactly.

• 40:47Chris Williamson?

  The problem.

• 40:48Jonny?

What you're missing is that, so just fight to get that momentum back.

• 40:51Chris Williamson?

Learn, learn the route to the gym.

• 40:53Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 40:53Chris Williamson?

Learn the, where the pots and pans are, like all of the little minutia contributes to making your day an awful lot easier. And another thing that we can, we we talk about a lot is stacking the deck in your favour. So if there's something that you want to do, if you want to go to the gym, make sure that your gym kit's folded and in your bag before you go to bed at night. And then the next morning, you just pick the bag up and it's ready to go. Like prep your food. If you don't defrost the chicken the night before, you can't cook it in the morning, which means that you break your diet the next day.

• 41:19Speaker 02

So we've got another podcast on that, yeah. So make the easy decision, make the good decisions easy and the bad decisions hard and then.

• 41:26Chris Williamson?

If you're, if you're, if you're diving and you don't want to eat cookies, don't buy cookies, don't have them in the house.

• 41:29Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 41:30Chris Williamson?

  There you go.

• 41:30Jonny?

Yeah, absolutely. Who would, uh, real Hazel James asks, who would you most like to interview?

• 41:36Chris Williamson?

Oh, wow. Hazel, thank you very much. She is a fantastic romance author from America. And her husband is currently battling with PTSD and alcoholism, but is one year sober as of a couple of weeks ago. So Hazel, congratulations. Lots of love to you and your husband. Um.

• 41:54Chris Williamson?

What do you think? Who do you want to sit down with? One person?

• 41:59Jonny?

  So my initial.

• 42:00Chris Williamson?

No, it can be one person.

• 42:02Jonny?

  Alright, okay.

• 42:06Jonny?

I'm gonna say a relative. So either.

• 42:12Jonny?

  Either my. Dad's dad.

• 42:14Chris Williamson?

  Okay.

• 42:15Jonny?

Or just someone in my past, like a great, great, great grandparent.

• 42:19Chris Williamson?

  Why?

• 42:19Speaker 02

Oh, if it's dead or alive, great.

• 42:20Jonny?

  Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.

• 42:22Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 42:22Jonny?

I just think, um. So there's a, there's a few stories about my dad's dad, where like he es- he escaped from a prisoner of war camp and stuff like this.

• 42:30Chris Williamson?

  What nationality is it?

• 42:31Jonny?

  British.

• 42:32Chris Williamson?

All right, where was, where was he?

• 42:34Jonny?

He was in World War Two. In Africa, I believe, escaped from a prisoner of war camp.

• 42:39Chris Williamson?

  Oh, my god.

• 42:40Jonny?

  Treked over mountains.

• 42:42Chris Williamson?

  What a story.

• 42:43Jonny?

Awesome story, yeah. And I just, he died when I was very young. And would just love to, I just think there's so many lessons from that.

• 42:49Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 42:50Jonny?

Particular thing. But I, I think everyone defaults to a famous person.

• 42:53Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 42:53Jonny?

But actually, interviewing, like, uh, uh, either on your, your mother's side or your dad's side, like someone who is generations before you. And just understanding more about them will be really interesting.

• 43:05Chris Williamson?

Yeah, that's cool. That's a really different answer. That's awesome.

• 43:08Speaker 02

So I think you, Hazel, Hazel James. No, but, um, I guess that's a good, I didn't expect you to say that, but actually, yeah, like if we were to say. Anton Creel, Tim Ferriss, and you, you, like, they've all been interviewed hundreds of times. And the kind of questions that you would ask, like, people have done that.

• 43:24Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 43:24Speaker 02

So, yeah, boring answer again for me, but be my dad now, like, several years on, um. Seeing what he would have to say.

• 43:32Chris Williamson?

That's cool. Yeah, I think. I'll break the trend. It would be nice. So I basically, I, my grandmother died when I was three or four. So for me, basically, I have no, I have very, very vague recollection of it, but essentially, like in terms of. Interaction, none, might as well be none. Um, would be nice to speak to her. Um, I think. Sitting down with Marcus Aurelius, as long as he was able to speak English.

• 43:58Jonny?

  Yeah, that would be interesting.

• 43:59Chris Williamson?

  Would be.

• 44:00Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, like if the opportunity is like Buddha, Jesus.

• 44:04Chris Williamson?

Well, I mean, but you know, out of, out of all of them, like Marcus Aurelius is. A military, like commander.

• 44:13Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 44:13Chris Williamson?

Who had a mindset that's lasted like two thousand years.

• 44:15Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 44:16Chris Williamson?

So it'd be pretty cool to sit down with him, I think.

• 44:18Jonny?

He's the source of like stoic thinking, isn't he?

• 44:20Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 44:20Jonny?

  One of the, um.

• 44:24Jonny?

  What are you laughing at?

• 44:24Chris Williamson?

  Just do it, do it.

• 44:25Speaker 02

  Just these are great.

• 44:26Jonny?

The problem with that situation, I would feel like if I was put in front of Jesus or whatever, it would be thinking like.

• 44:32Speaker 02

You have such asinine questions for Jesus.

• 44:34Jonny?

Fucking sandbag this, like if I'm the only person ever that's had a chance to ask this person questions.

• 44:39Speaker 02

You come back and be like, guys, I've spoken to Jesus. Did you ask him this?

• 44:42Chris Williamson?

He asked him if he was gluten intolerant.

• 44:45Speaker 02

I froze, I was like, do you like?

• 44:47Chris Williamson?

  What's your bench?

• 44:47Speaker 02

  Bread, because I like bread.

• 44:49Jonny?

You know what actually would be really interesting to see, go back to like the time when all the statues were created and see if anyone actually was in as good a shape as the statues imply.

• 44:57Speaker 02

And if they were, what were they doing?

• 44:59Chris Williamson?

  Give me that protocol.

• 45:00Speaker 02

  It's on berry.

• 45:01Jonny?

  I bet it's the.

• 45:01Speaker 02

  It's gone extinct as well.

• 45:03Chris Williamson?

Do you know what I think it is? Bum broth, first thing in the morning.

• 45:05Jonny?

Bum broth, bum broth. Any chance, you've been excited about it.

• 45:11Speaker 02

  Rebs, Rebs Jebbs.

• 45:13Jonny?

  Rebs Jebbs.

• 45:14Speaker 02

Says, any chance you fancy being my personal trainer? Brackets, and I mean that in every sense of the word personal, winky face. Excellent, Rebs Jebbs. This has got to be either a yes or a no.

• 45:25Chris Williamson?

  I'm unqualified, no.

• 45:27Speaker 02

Great answer. What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you? Kiss hug, kiss hug by Jessica Tyler Taylor.

• 45:37Chris Williamson?

  Taylor.

• 45:38Speaker 02

  Fine.

• 45:39Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 45:41Chris Williamson?

During intercourse with a lady, she

• 45:47Chris Williamson?

began to say the sentence, spit on m and got to the M in m. I thought that she meant me, as in her, spit on me. At which point, like a loaded gun, I unloaded a full mouth of saliva onto her face. She quietly wiped it off and said, I meant my fingers. I apologized, laughed, and then continued. That's, that's up there.

• 46:17Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 46:17Chris Williamson?

  Spit on m.

• 46:19Speaker 02

  Spit on m.

• 46:21Jonny?

  I'm really excited.

• 46:22Chris Williamson?

  Some velocity as well.

• 46:23Speaker 02

You, you guys know this already, which is dropping, losing twenty three grand in a period of about ten minutes. The, the, the full story of that is on another podcast.

• 46:33Jonny?

  No, we never recorded it.

• 46:35Chris Williamson?

We will do, we'll do life, we'll do life, life fails.

• 46:37Jonny?

  Never went live.

• 46:37Chris Williamson?

Yeah, life fails, we'll come back, um, but.

• 46:39Speaker 02

Why didn't it go live? So we didn't finish it?

• 46:42Jonny?

We never finished it, we got cut off.

• 46:43Speaker 02

Okay, fine, we've got to, we've got to.

• 46:45Chris Williamson?

We lost twenty three grand trading.

• 46:47Jonny?

  We'll have to restart.

• 46:48Chris Williamson?

  In how long?

• 46:49Speaker 02

In about a ten minute period. What? No.

• 46:56Chris Williamson?

It loses, you lose about six, six weeks off your life every time that you lose that score.

• 47:00Jonny?

It's the prospect of like something that's been done not being used is absolutely unacceptable. Mine's really mundane.

• 47:07Chris Williamson?

  What's yours?

• 47:08Jonny?

So this was when I was an accountant, early, early in my career, like probably the first two or three weeks. Um, the, so the, the way the day panned out was, um, used to train in my garage in the morning. So I'm in my garage squatting and really hard set. So the only time this has ever happened to me, my, my nose just completely popped, so like blood just went like that mid rep. And I spat the blood all over the garage. So like, you're like, pretty intense morning, like you're pretty, feeling pretty fragile. Get to work, walk in, very sort of fabricated office environment, very bright lights. Like, you're like, ten minutes ago, I'm bleeding all over the garage and now I'm here.

• 47:47Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 47:48Jonny?

Sit down and as I sat down, just heard the entire gusset, my trousers just go.

• 47:54Jonny?

And you're like, I'm in this office in Team Valley, auditing this company, thinking, I've got the entire day.

• 48:00Jonny?

To just deal with this. So I ended up, the way I dealt with it, because it went all the way up the back of my arse.

• 48:05Chris Williamson?

So you could. Do you think this is due to quad problems?

• 48:07Jonny?

  From the, probably.

• 48:08Chris Williamson?

  From the squats.

• 48:08Jonny?

I just walked around with my jacket on the whole day and like.

• 48:11Speaker 02

Just hope for the best, like, just.

• 48:13Chris Williamson?

A little bit of posterior, posterior tilt.

• 48:14Jonny?

So not, not embarrassing, but like, that kind of like.

• 48:18Chris Williamson?

  Hyper awkwardness.

• 48:19Jonny?

  Awkward, like nasty.

• 48:20Speaker 02

That reminds me, I've had a very similar thing, which was, um. Front squatting in the gym. And then went to the bathroom.

• 48:30Speaker 02

Came back, finished my session, left. And then realised it was a very, it was a very busy gym, realised that um I was wearing like swimming shorts for some reason, I must have like not had my kit available. And it's one of those flies that doesn't.

• 48:44Jonny?

  Flaps open.

• 48:44Speaker 02

Yeah, just flaps open and I had full penis out for, I don't know how long, like probably since I went to the toilet for an hour afterwards, walking around.

• 48:52Jonny?

  There's the story.

• 48:53Speaker 02

Didn't get put on the uh.

• 48:54Jonny?

On the register. Well, I suppose you might not know.

• 48:57Chris Williamson?

Right, um so there's a question here, I'm not going to say the person because I think that's what they mean. How do I lose weight? And then in brackets, please don't post this. I presume that you mean, please don't say who posted this, as opposed to please don't post this. In which, because if that is the case, then the question was completely, the name, wasn't it? Um, how do I lose weight? Calorie fucking deficit, mate.

• 49:18Speaker 02

Listen to the get lean for summer podcast.

• 49:22Chris Williamson?

Or just go to propanefitness.com forward slash.

• 49:25Jonny?

  Calculator.

• 49:25Chris Williamson?

  Calculator, that's it.

• 49:26Jonny?

  That's where it began.

• 49:27Chris Williamson?

Um, let's do some quickfire ones. What is your favourite non-alcoholic beverage?

• 49:32Jonny?

  Coffee.

• 49:33Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 49:33Jonny?

Oh, yeah. I said, I was getting, for some reason, I was starting to think like Vintor, Fanta, like coffee, absolutely coffee.

• 49:39Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 49:39Speaker 02

Nah, I've uh, I've just bought a blender and I've been making blueberry, pineapple and Palmer Violet smoothie, really nice.

• 49:47Jonny?

This is him doing green smoothies.

• 49:49Chris Williamson?

The Scoville way, Palmer Violet. What is your second favourite animal?

• 49:57Jonny?

  Donkey.

• 50:00Speaker 02

  Whip it.

• 50:02Jonny?

Whip it's not an animal. A dog.

• 50:04Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 50:05Jonny?

  What's your first favourite animal?

• 50:06Speaker 02

  Tortoise, no, it's not, uh.

• 50:08Jonny?

Fair enough then, well, fair enough.

• 50:12Jonny?

You just can't beat dog, whip it. I was just checking, that's what it wasn't what it was.

• 50:15Chris Williamson?

Do you not think, you know that we're getting, that we're getting asked these questions and no one's, the, the integrity of our answers, for the most part. There's not a whole lot of pressure on, but it feels like there's an awful lot of pressure on.

• 50:27Jonny?

  Couldn't get this right.

• 50:28Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 50:28Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 50:29Chris Williamson?

  What's your second favourite animal?

• 50:30Speaker 02

Any animal, giraffe, see, there's no way to verify that.

• 50:34Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, but is it?

• 50:34Jonny?

  How do I know?

• 50:35Speaker 02

Well, well, that's it, like I.

• 50:36Chris Williamson?

Is it even now? Is it at the moment?

• 50:38Speaker 02

  No.

• 50:38Chris Williamson?

  Right, so what is it?

• 50:40Speaker 02

It's because to say like, dog, is it, is such a lame answer, that's hot.

• 50:45Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 50:45Speaker 02

Goodness me, shall we move on?

• 50:48Chris Williamson?

  I've.

• 50:48Speaker 02

  I've got a rubbish answer.

• 50:51Chris Williamson?

  Right, okay.

• 50:52Jonny?

  What's yours?

• 50:53Chris Williamson?

  Second favourite animal?

• 50:54Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 50:56Jonny?

  It's a donkey, isn't it?

• 50:58Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 50:58Speaker 02

Oh, there's an Egyptian zoo that has recently been rumpled for painting a donkey like a zebra.

• 51:03Chris Williamson?

  Wow.

• 51:04Speaker 02

  Very Egyptian.

• 51:04Jonny?

  Real entrepreneurs.

• 51:06Speaker 02

It's such an Egyptian thing to do.

• 51:07Chris Williamson?

  Once it rains.

• 51:08Speaker 02

  Cutting corners.

• 51:09Jonny?

  Fuck.

• 51:09Chris Williamson?

Then you've got a real special. This is a, this is a really good one. What do you think are the most attractive qualities a girl can have? Official, official, official Tyra Tucker. What do you think are the most attractive qualities a girl can have? Um, so we've just recently done a podcast on relationships where I say about women, um, laying down hurdles for men. And for me personally, it's been kept on my toes. As soon as, as soon as you know that you've got a girl, there's a, the, the challenge and the back and forth and the excitement, like I need to, for me to be kept on my toes.

• 51:52Jonny?

Sense of humour, not taking themselves too seriously and being motivated towards something.

• 51:59Chris Williamson?

  Nice.

• 51:59Jonny?

  Being motivated to achieve something.

• 52:01Chris Williamson?

  Nice.

• 52:01Speaker 02

Yeah, all, all very good. Uh, productivity, so the lack of complacency, not resting on your morals for any of your existing good qualities and just making an effort.

• 52:11Jonny?

Those are always pushing that Wilks.

• 52:13Speaker 02

  Always pushing your Wilks.

• 52:14Chris Williamson?

That's, that is a fucking good framework for being a, a girl there. Or a guy, actually, to be honest. Um, would you ever?

• 52:22Jonny?

  Better girls and guys, that's.

• 52:23Speaker 02

Yeah, well, they're, they're not taking yourself seriously is huge.

• 52:26Chris Williamson?

  Massive.

• 52:26Speaker 02

  If you have someone who.

• 52:27Jonny?

  Makes you invincible.

• 52:28Chris Williamson?

Not cha-, not chasing, um, or not being reliant on public opinion, not being reliant on, uh, validation is a like a big part of that as well.

• 52:37Jonny?

Ego is the enemy, obstacles the way.

• 52:39Chris Williamson?

  Ryan Halliday.

• 52:40Jonny?

  Same.

• 52:40Chris Williamson?

Would you ever date a guy if you fancied them?

• 52:44Speaker 02

Well, yeah, if I fancied them, like by definition, I would.

• 52:48Jonny?

  Yeah, that's a.

• 52:48Speaker 02

Would you eat some pizza if you were angry?

• 52:50Chris Williamson?

Would you, would you, would you eat a guy if, would you?

• 52:52Jonny?

  Would I eat a guy?

• 52:53Chris Williamson?

Would you eat a guy? Would you date a guy if you fancied them because there's going to be social stigma, there's going to be a bunch of other things?

• 52:57Jonny?

I think so, okay, so I think.

• 52:58Chris Williamson?

You'd have to leave your girlfriend.

• 53:00Jonny?

The question is, if I felt like I was gay, would I pursue that avenue?

• 53:03Chris Williamson?

  No.

• 53:04Jonny?

Well, surely that is the question.

• 53:06Chris Williamson?

No, if you fancied a guy.

• 53:08Jonny?

  But I'm not gay.

• 53:09Chris Williamson?

  Would you date him?

• 53:11Speaker 02

I think to be like, it's two thousand and eighteen now, like to be able to to to to be afraid of pursuing a man that I fancy.

• 53:18Jonny?

  But I think, I think.

• 53:19Chris Williamson?

That's bravery about yourself for talking.

• 53:21Jonny?

Let's reframe the question, okay, so you you're in the relationship you're currently in. You meet a girl that you find attractive and you fancy.

• 53:27Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 53:28Jonny?

  Do you date her?

• 53:29Speaker 02

  No.

• 53:30Jonny?

So that that's why I'm saying.

• 53:31Speaker 02

I see, so you're saying within the current constraints.

• 53:34Chris Williamson?

Yeah, so I'm the only one, I'm the only one in this.

• 53:36Jonny?

  So you don't.

• 53:36Chris Williamson?

That's single, so yeah, like, give me some dick.

• 53:40Jonny?

  So you want some dick?

• 53:40Chris Williamson?

  Give me some.

• 53:41Speaker 02

  But just that man's dick.

• 53:42Chris Williamson?

So there's two questions that are side by side.

• 53:44Jonny?

We can organize you some dick, like, then we could.

• 53:47Chris Williamson?

Well, I don't only want one.

• 53:48Speaker 02

  I can hear you.

• 53:49Chris Williamson?

  I don't want multiple.

• 53:50Speaker 02

  Message inbox, just.

• 53:51Chris Williamson?

I don't want multiple dicks. I'm not, I haven't even had one yet.

• 53:54Jonny?

If there's only one offer for a dick, you only have one to choose from, you need to have some options.

• 53:58Chris Williamson?

I I haven't had one and I feel like opening up with like.

• 54:02Jonny?

  Sampler.

• 54:02Chris Williamson?

Yeah, and like getting like a a whole fucking hot dog factory of them.

• 54:06Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 54:07Chris Williamson?

  Is going to be overwhelming.

• 54:08Jonny?

You want like, you want like an anti-pasty platter, don't you, to try?

• 54:11Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 54:12Speaker 02

You have to aggressively overload it.

• 54:13Chris Williamson?

I want a cocktail sausage to begin with. There's two questions side by side here. Would you ever go back on Love Island? And if you could do do Love Island again, would you? Um, right now, yes, I would, because I would be set for life and I would get a million followers and that would allow me to pursue this interest without um diluting it or convoluting it or doing anything like that. It's just a platform now.

• 54:36Jonny?

What about the potential social emotional fallout?

• 54:41Chris Williamson?

Wouldn't be any. I'm as robust as I've ever been right now.

• 54:46Jonny?

  Okay.

• 54:47Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 54:47Speaker 02

I feel you've done it once and you were you were okay, like it was boring at times, but.

• 54:52Chris Williamson?

So what is something that had connected you with a partner at a deeper level? S S Parkfit.

• 55:02Speaker 02

I think going through any kind of uh collective tragedy with someone, or like any adversity always brings you closer together. Well, where it can can test it and might not, but it's it. I think you don't know what quality someone is until you've been through thick and thin with them.

• 55:19Jonny?

Mm hmm. Something that brought Yusuf and I closer together was when we tried to sell our first ever ebook online. And uh.

• 55:30Jonny?

I think us going to Iceland brought us together as a three.

• 55:34Speaker 02

  The shindons.

• 55:35Jonny?

I think the, I think collectively, like we managed to find fun amongst persistent, oh, well, the adversity.

• 55:41Speaker 02

  It's extreme temperature and yeah.

• 55:45Jonny?

Yusuf made me an egg. I had skier late at night, several times.

• 55:51Chris Williamson?

Um, for me, it's probably MDMA, like.

• 55:53Jonny?

  MDMA.

• 55:54Chris Williamson?

  MDMA.

• 55:55Jonny?

  Okay.

• 55:55Chris Williamson?

  If you with a.

• 55:56Speaker 02

Oh, that's the, that's the most like reliable way to engineer.

• 56:00Chris Williamson?

  A deep connection with someone.

• 56:01Speaker 02

  With someone, isn't it? Yeah.

• 56:01Chris Williamson?

Take MDMA, get them to take MDMA, sit in a room and look at them and they're pretty boundless love. Yeah. Um.

• 56:10Speaker 02

If you're going to do it without the MDMA, there's lots of uh, the, so look at David Dada, the way of the superior man and his counterpart exercises. There's a lot of partner exercises where you sit opposite your partner and look into their eyes for a long period. And you breathe with them, one breathes in, the other breathes out and then.

• 56:28Chris Williamson?

  Like a two-way meditation.

• 56:29Speaker 02

Sort of. And then you say out of ten how present you feel with them and they say how present they feel with you. And when it starts to drop, you know, you say, oh, four, three, seven, eight, nine, and you just do that for.

• 56:40Chris Williamson?

David Dada, way of the superior man and his partner exercises, are they in the book?

• 56:44Speaker 02

Yeah, they're actually fantastic. I really want to try them and I'm very grateful that the person I'm with is is up for that. It's just like, oh, that's weird. Like, I'm not doing that.

• 56:53Chris Williamson?

That's cool, man. Um, pretty cool one here. What is everyone's short-term training goals? What total regional competition, just a physique goal, question marks, all from Anabolic OD.

• 57:06Speaker 02

  Great username.

• 57:07Jonny?

  Anabolic OD.

• 57:10Jonny?

Seven hundred kilo total, one oh five kilo class at Nationals twenty eighteen, weighing a hundred kilos or less.

• 57:17Chris Williamson?

But you're in the one oh fives.

• 57:18Jonny?

Yeah, but I wanna, if I'm a hundred kilos or less, I'll hit a PB Wilks.

• 57:22Chris Williamson?

  Nice.

• 57:23Speaker 02

Yep, disc herniation rehab, um tumbling and hands down goals, like get cork or cork to cork. Um.

• 57:32Chris Williamson?

That's the one legged spinny flip, spinny flip.

• 57:34Speaker 02

  Well, I remember it.

• 57:35Jonny?

Yeah, one to cork is, we were banned, we were banned.

• 57:37Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 57:38Chris Williamson?

  That's really fucking cool.

• 57:39Speaker 02

Yeah, oh god. Um, but yeah, at the moment, just hypertrophy.

• 57:42Chris Williamson?

What's the thing, is there like a, I'd love to deadlift seven hundred pounds, is there a like an all time?

• 57:50Speaker 02

  Pinnacle that people.

• 57:51Chris Williamson?

  Like gymnastics version?

• 57:52Speaker 02

The seven hundred pounds equivalent is probably.

• 57:54Chris Williamson?

  Iron cross?

• 57:55Speaker 02

Double cork. Oh, well, yeah, yeah, gymnastics is, yeah, the iron cross, like a strength, strength goal or something like that.

• 58:01Chris Williamson?

Okay, I just mean like a, in the community, what's like, fuck, like, seven twenty?

• 58:06Speaker 02

Double back tucks, um, so, yeah, so something like a seven twenty, like where the more spins and then like only few people on earth have ever done a triple cork and then like one guy's done a quadruple. But he, he's like tiny, he's like fifty five kilos and just the perfect.

• 58:20Chris Williamson?

  All in one.

• 58:21Speaker 02

Yeah, just run, big run up, I think he does a couple of like pre-things and just, yeah.

• 58:26Chris Williamson?

  Gobs.

• 58:27Speaker 02

They, they, they're just so good at delaying the, the spin until they're right at the top of the, the, the.

• 58:33Chris Williamson?

  And then they just.

• 58:34Speaker 02

Impacts of that thing. And then they raise their central gravity and just get really tired. It's just like.

• 58:37Chris Williamson?

Why don't you do loads of ring stuff?

• 58:40Speaker 02

I'm just not strong enough at all.

• 58:41Chris Williamson?

But like, you're, you're gonna be quite heavy as well, I guess.

• 58:44Speaker 02

Yeah, like one, one fifty bench and I'm absolutely piss poor at rings. It's, it's crazy how like.

• 58:49Chris Williamson?

I think I'm one fifty bench?

• 58:50Speaker 02

Yeah, I, I, I did it with you, won the, um.

• 58:53Chris Williamson?

  Pinnacle.

• 58:54Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 58:55Chris Williamson?

  Shit, so you did?

• 58:56Speaker 02

  Little record for the.

• 58:57Chris Williamson?

So as a, as a very, very brief segue here, we went into a gym in Brunswick Park, just above Gosworth in Newcastle. I took Johnny and Yosef in there, on the board in there with these kind of like West Side Barbell style, long standing, like.

• 59:11Speaker 02

  Rencords.

• 59:12Chris Williamson?

Like overhead press, bench press, squats, so on and so forth. And you moved through, I think, all. Three of the lifts from powerlifting, squat, bench and deadlift for reps and repped higher one rep maxes than were on there. I think you did for five. I think for five you deadlifted, deadlifted more than the current.

• 59:31Jonny?

So I think as part of my session that day, I took the one rep max for my weight class. You bench one fifty for the first time, you smashed the record, didn't you?

• 59:41Chris Williamson?

It was like one, one three five or something, yeah. Um, uh, for me at the moment, immediately rehab back, make myself much more, um. Robust, much more robust to uh injury. And then, yeah, within the next couple of years, I want to compete. At a RXed CrossFit comp.

• 1:00:04Jonny?

Do you ever have the goal of regionals? I have no idea how ridiculous the target that is.

• 1:00:10Chris Williamson?

I think shy of me tacking myself onto a team and basically bringing them down.

• 1:00:16Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:00:17Chris Williamson?

I need, it's the beginning of, it's the beginning of a salesman's career and saying I want to be the CEO. Like you just don't know how good you can be at the sport. And at the moment, I don't know how good I can be. Um, so yeah, for me, CrossFit comp, become competitive locally and then see where we go from there.

• 1:00:33Jonny?

What is one thing that if you could dial it up? So like, there's a series of skills in CrossFit. If I said to you, Chris, I have the mixing table, mixing table. I have the series of dialers, I can turn up one of those abilities. Which of those do you think is such a weakness? And if it was elevated, it would really bring up your skills.

• 1:00:51Chris Williamson?

  For me, endurance.

• 1:00:52Jonny?

  Endurance.

• 1:00:53Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:53Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:00:54Chris Williamson?

  So I'm strong.

• 1:00:55Jonny?

  That was ten X.

• 1:00:56Chris Williamson?

Yeah, like I can, I can be sufficiently strong already because of my background.

• 1:01:01Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:01:01Chris Williamson?

Um, I'm not stronger really than anyone, but I'm in the mixer with that, but I lag behind in endurance.

• 1:01:06Jonny?

True, actually, ten X in your endurance would just mean.

• 1:01:09Chris Williamson?

Like, because, because it's the, it's the foundation, the endurance is the foundation for everything, because if you had the work capacity. The strength would be irrelevant because top end strength is never used in CrossFit, except for actually in the. Games, which will have been by the time that this is gone, but the CrossFit total is going to be one of the comps in there, but it's very rare. Most of the time it's an ascending squat clean ladder, but with ring muscle ups in between. And the reason that the squat clean ladder is hard is because you're fatigued. So if your endurance was there, you would be fine. Um, here's a, here's a pretty cool one. When did you first get into mindfulness and looking after your mental state and why?

• 1:01:45Jonny?

It was something that Yusef said to me, which was that you. It was the idea of um having no attachments, having no external attachments. Was the path to like no suffering and being at peace.

• 1:02:06Chris Williamson?

It's what Sam Harris says, isn't it, that for years and years contemplatives have used isolation as a route to discover whether or not happiness can be found in isolation of external factors. And for most people solitary confinement is considered the worst punishment in the world, but these people have found solace in that.

• 1:02:26Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:26Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 1:02:27Jonny?

I mean, is that right? Have I blundered that?

• 1:02:29Speaker 02

No, you're right. Yeah, like no attachments, no aversions means that you've got ultimate freedom to.

• 1:02:34Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:02:35Speaker 02

  Like there's no suffering.

• 1:02:35Chris Williamson?

You're not the mercy of anything.

• 1:02:37Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:02:37Speaker 02

Yeah, like if if you equate, it's it's the idea that if you have this circuit of desire, chase the desire, fulfill the desire, happy for a moment because the mind quiets on the fulfillment of that desire. And then a new desire comes up and you repeat that cycle. Whereas if you were to short circuit that whole process, eliminate the desire, which you can do consciously through repetition, then you've got the quieting of the mind without having to go through that big loop and chase the desire and fulfill it.

• 1:03:06Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 1:03:06Speaker 02

And then you've just got that from the beginning.

• 1:03:08Chris Williamson?

  Fulfillment.

• 1:03:09Jonny?

One of the things you said about feelings from the retreat unsatisfactoriness.

• 1:03:15Speaker 02

Oh, so the the yeah, the Buddhist approach is um everything is anicca, anatta and su- sukkha, I think so, impermanence.

• 1:03:29Speaker 02

Everything is impermanent, unsatisfactory and non-self in its qualities. And so the sooner that you can teach your nervous system that, not just consciously, but like at a deep level, then you don't attach to anything and you can just let experiences flow through you without having to grasp or push away.

• 1:03:50Chris Williamson?

So that's everything, both good and bad, is temporary and never enough.

• 1:03:54Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:03:55Chris Williamson?

As long as you, cause so it was.

• 1:03:57Speaker 02

It was the reps of that are just like.

• 1:03:59Chris Williamson?

  Reinforce that.

• 1:04:00Speaker 02

  Things to flow through.

• 1:04:01Chris Williamson?

So I think like, realising that your entire life, you're going through this material. Uh, like externally validated and motivated approach to try and feel happy. I think that's really what everyone's trying to do at some level. And the way you explained it, then you, once you hear it like that, you're like, oh, actually, it's kind of pointless is to to have all this time that's gonna pass regardless.

• 1:04:22Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:04:22Chris Williamson?

And not at least try and work on the thing that is the most valuable thing.

• 1:04:28Speaker 02

The thing, the thing that is actually perceiving all of this, the interface between the external reality. And I think one of the ways that we stay in this. Hamster wheel is that our mind convinces ourselves that if we were to suddenly detach from all desire and um. Attachment and aversion, we'd become this like log that would just, yeah, but. If if anything, if you see people that are frequent meditators, they're the most vibrant and enthusiastic and.

• 1:04:52Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:52Speaker 02

Fully engaged people because they're able to just dive in with both feet and not have to.

• 1:04:58Chris Williamson?

So I did take ten, that's nice.

• 1:05:00Speaker 02

  Take ten.

• 1:05:01Jonny?

  Take ten.

• 1:05:02Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 1:05:02Jonny?

Hands in the arms, down to the legs.

• 1:05:05Chris Williamson?

So, yeah, I think I I had, I had a um, I had a couple of periods of of, why? Naturally, I'm quite a depressive person, I think. My my native state is to be um. On the depressed side of things, so I don't tend to look at the positives naturally.

• 1:05:23Speaker 02

  I'm the same.

• 1:05:24Chris Williamson?

  Um, and.

• 1:05:26Speaker 02

So it's your default state, I don't, yeah, like your your native state, isn't it?

• 1:05:29Chris Williamson?

Okay, sorry, default state, should I say?

• 1:05:31Speaker 02

So so something happens, do you catastrophise and think of the worst?

• 1:05:34Chris Williamson?

  Very much so.

• 1:05:35Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:05:35Chris Williamson?

Very, very much so. And that's, that was reinforced a lot through work. So, um. The business that I made of club nights is inherently very um. It's very changeable and it is at the mercy of market forces and the whims of customers who are. The most fickle bastards on the planet. And what that leads to is this kind of uh. Low level anxiety that's constantly going. And it's just, it's.

• 1:06:06Speaker 02

Yeah, I I struggled to do what you did.

• 1:06:07Chris Williamson?

It re- it reinforced, it reinforced thought thought patterns that were already um. Default for me. And.

• 1:06:17Chris Williamson?

Just like through sheer fucking brute force, I think being around you two makes a really big difference for me. Doing the podcasts has been like, I say all the time, it's like therapy for me.

• 1:06:28Jonny?

It's really helpful because I feel like the three of us have very different sticking points in in our growth. And I think seeing someone who's like got a a clear channel in one of those other ones is really useful to.

• 1:06:41Chris Williamson?

Yeah, we fill, I think with regards to each other, we fill in a lot of the gaps that all of us have. And there's a, one of the rules that we all of us cite to each other a lot. Um, is Jordan Peterson's be friends with people who want the best for you. And what's interesting with that is be friends with people who want the best for you isn't be friends with people who tell you what you want to hear. So as a really, really good example, Johnny was working on some new content for propane about a month or a couple of months ago. He'd worked on it for quite a while, he sent the video into me and Yusuf. And my reply to him, I knew that he'd worked really hard and I knew that it was good. But my response to him immediately was, yeah, mate, that's good, but being frank, like it's nowhere near as good as you could be. Like, I know how good you can make this content.

• 1:07:23Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:07:23Chris Williamson?

And I think your response, Yusuf, was something similar. And.

• 1:07:26Jonny?

Yusuf was just like, it's fucking shit, what are you doing?

• 1:07:30Chris Williamson?

You're an asshole, please, can we split the business off?

• 1:07:32Jonny?

  But yeah, yeah, you're right.

• 1:07:33Chris Williamson?

And, you know, you went away and you, I think, I don't know whether you knew that in advance, but you went away and you came back. And the next time you did it, you absolutely fucking smashed it and it was amazing. And I was like, that's being friends with people who want the best for you, the same way as the young child wants the sweets. But the sweets aren't good for it, giving it the vegetables is what it needs. Giving it the sweets is what it wants, but that's not necessarily what it needs and that's being friends with people who want the best for you.

• 1:07:58Jonny?

It's people who aren't just waiting to tell you about them and tell you like what's happening for them and like actually. Yeah, but a- actually, what happened this morning, like honestly.

• 1:08:08Chris Williamson?

  Exactly that.

• 1:08:09Jonny?

Like you, you say you ask for advice and someone sits and thinks about it, thinks about you and gives you advice that is relevant for you in their opinion.

• 1:08:18Chris Williamson?

Yeah, so I think for me, it was a. Uh, having a a series of pretty tough depressive episodes, like not being able to get out of bed, just refusing to get out of bed. And one of the problems with me and with work is that because I don't have a boss, I'm never culpable to anybody. And what that means is that I can always make an excuse about why I'm not in work. It means that I can either.

• 1:08:45Chris Williamson?

By being truthful or by lying, I can always get out of having to do things that mean I need to leave the house. So, and that to me, just it didn't make me feel good. Like I, I didn't feel proud of myself and I didn't think. I thought, is this what my fucking life's turned out to be? Like, I don't want to leave bed because of some thought pattern. Like, nothing's really actually gone wrong in the grand scheme of things. Recently, I sat down with a guy who elected to chop one of his legs off. Like, after being hit with five IEDs and losing his best mate and commander i- in Iraq, like, do you know what I mean?

• 1:09:15Jonny?

  Like, puts it in context.

• 1:09:17Chris Williamson?

Yeah, it does, but you need the tools. You have to have the tools to be able to deal with these sort of things. And I think that it was sheer brute force is the only, the, the thing that I keep coming back to and the reason I say brute force is. I force fed myself content which made my life better. So, reading and listening to people like Jordan Peterson, Tim Ferriss, you know, Sam Harris. All of these guys who spoke a language which I understood. The School of Life, um, YouTube channel is a huge influence. Um, so that's, that's my why. And then, you know, as we've just said there, like, I think we make. Us three make, uh, make each other's lives better. Like, I genuinely would, I'd be fucked.

• 1:10:00Chris Williamson?

Like, if it wasn't for the fact that we have each other privately and publicly as well.

• 1:10:04Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:10:04Chris Williamson?

And, um, you know, we don't let each other off the hook with things. We don't, we hold each other accountable as well. If someone's being inconsistent with things or if someone needs support with things.

• 1:10:14Speaker 02

It's the best thing that you can do for someone. And it's the same principle you said that you should do if you are a woman or a man. You know, in a, like, starting a relationship or dating someone is to hold them to those high standards and don't settle for anything less for both of your sakes. Um, really like it.

• 1:10:30Chris Williamson?

Yeah, very much so. Um, there's a couple of Love Islandy ones here, so I'll, I'll get them through. Have you been watching the season of Love Island? If yes, thoughts on scripted filming from Vision Asiri? Um, I watched the first week and then I was in America for a bit and then Adam, my friend, left. So I haven't got a massive sample to work with. There's been some accusations thrown around about, um. Scripting because they did a match in action, what's called a match in action in cinematography. Is where something will start off on one side and then they'll flip to another camera angle and continue the scene. And someone noticed that in one scene, two people, two separate couples kissed at the same time, and in a different scene, they kissed separately.

• 1:11:11Chris Williamson?

In the, in the match, um, and listen to the Love Island podcast, it goes back to that. As I say in that, the dates are much more heavily produced. This is because they don't have set up camera angles. It's quite likely that that might have even been the same camera. That that wouldn't have been happening at the same time. Right, guys, we've got that. Can you sit back down, please? We're just gonna get you to kiss again. It's like. They asked them to kiss again and say goodbye. It wasn't like, it wasn't some crux of the story. It wasn't that someone was about to reveal they loved someone and they told them to shut the fuck up.

• 1:11:41Speaker 02

Um, it's probably unnecessary work anyway to do that, isn't it? To, to create a plot when you've got people in there anyway.

• 1:11:46Chris Williamson?

They're doing stuff themselves. I said this, and this is, you know, anyone who's concerned about whether or not Love Island is scripted or not. You can come back to this, which is about as close to a safety latch as you can get, which is. The people that are in there have not had media training. I can promise you they haven't had media training. You get Stephanie eighteen from Bolton and drop her in the middle of Mallorca and say, right, so. Alex has just told you that he loves you, but we didn't quite get that. Can you just do that reaction again? She's gonna have a meltdown. She's not gonna be able to do that. She doesn't have that in her capabilities. So just. That, the, what's that thing he's raised?

• 1:12:24Speaker 02

  Occam's razor.

• 1:12:25Chris Williamson?

Occam's razor, the simplest explanation is often the correct one. There you go. Um, have you found it harder to find someone that's genuinely in it for you and not because of Love Island? So I kind of get this similar sort of question, um, a lot. And I think that people are overestimating the level of fame that particularly I got out of my season. Like.

• 1:12:49Chris Williamson?

The early seasons of Love Island, people are not considered celebrities anymore. And being frank, like after one year lapsed outside of Love Island, no one gives a fuck anymore. Like, everyone's only concerned about the most recent ones. The only way that you can still be relevant is if you do what Chris and Cam have done, which is force yourself down the throat to the people.

• 1:13:05Jonny?

  Create something else.

• 1:13:06Chris Williamson?

Yeah, by continuing to make yourself relevant.

• 1:13:09Jonny?

I suppose that for a short period of time, given this platform, and it's like, there you go, do something with it, or it'll expire. And if it expires, then.

• 1:13:20Chris Williamson?

Could you do a podcast in regards to tips for the gym, if you haven't already, from Sophia Larkin? I'm not sure if you've, I don't know how long you follow us for, Sophia, but there are.

• 1:13:33Jonny?

Go back, listen to those podcasts, listen to the Propane Podcast.

• 1:13:36Chris Williamson?

There are around a hundred and twenty episodes on the Propane Fitness Podcast, and the clue is in the name, some of them are on fitness.

• 1:13:44Speaker 02

Genuinely, the best resource on fitness that we know of, otherwise we would have created it. So.

• 1:13:49Chris Williamson?

  Well, you did.

• 1:13:50Speaker 02

Well, we did. So, yeah, one, another question from M. Wood. Any advice on getting back to training after illness?

• 1:13:56Chris Williamson?

  Good question.

• 1:13:57Speaker 02

Yeah, so I've got a series on this called Project Swole. That was directed specifically towards regaining muscle mass after having the illness. But, yeah, but the same thing, same thing applies, like same principles. So watch those series of videos. It goes over how I was admitted to hospital for seven days with an infection on a background of a six week, just multiple series of, sequence of infections.

• 1:14:23Jonny?

How do I find them, yourself?

• 1:14:24Speaker 02

  Oh, just go on propanefitness.com.

• 1:14:27Jonny?

  Okay.

• 1:14:27Speaker 02

There's a lovely new live search bar.

• 1:14:29Jonny?

  All right.

• 1:14:30Speaker 02

So just start tapping Project Swole.

• 1:14:31Jonny?

  And I'll find them there.

• 1:14:32Chris Williamson?

Or what would the URL be?

• 1:14:35Speaker 02

It'll be propanefitness.com forward slash Project Swole.

• 1:14:38Chris Williamson?

Dean, video guy Dean will make it appear magically on the screen somewhere. Um, we have totally missed one screenshot at the bottom and there's some absolute belters on here. Um, what do you need to do to reduce belly fat from lati far? As far as I'm aware, there is absolutely no research which says that you can spot reduce fat.

• 1:14:58Speaker 02

The best analogy that I've heard is doing crunches to reduce this is like scooping the corner of a swimming pool. To try and get rid of this bit of water. So it's like that, that's exactly how it is. And for losing fat in general, again, go back and check.

• 1:15:15Chris Williamson?

  Calorie fucking deficit.

• 1:15:17Speaker 02

Yeah, well, listen to the Getting Lean for Summer podcast.

• 1:15:19Chris Williamson?

Just eat, exercise more than you eat. In terms of calorie expenditure, there you go. Um, Chris, I used a super like on you on Tinder. Where's my chance, Boo? Uh, can't pronounce that. That's where they're going wrong. Yeah. Shit, use a name. If you do, exactly. I'm afraid, as I explained on a hacker in your pocket, I'm trying to reduce my smartphone time, which included removing Tinder. Um, one piece of life advice from each of you that you would give to my seventeen year old son from.

• 1:15:54Speaker 02

  Jim Fecker.

• 1:15:54Chris Williamson?

  Jim Fecker.

• 1:15:55Speaker 02

  Good lord.

• 1:15:56Chris Williamson?

That is a really good fucking question.

• 1:15:58Speaker 02

  Good god.

• 1:15:59Chris Williamson?

Um, at seventeen years old, um.

• 1:16:07Speaker 02

So do you want me to start?

• 1:16:08Chris Williamson?

  Yes.

• 1:16:09Speaker 02

Decide on a three year goal in each of the four quadrants of your life. So this is not my framework. This is from a few people that's been adapted, but body, being, balance and business. So business could, body, your physical goal, whether it's physique or sport or whatever. Being, spiritual pursuit, whether it's prayer, meditation, um, anything on that.

• 1:16:35Chris Williamson?

  Introspective.

• 1:16:36Speaker 02

Inside, anything introspective, any kind of self-growth, emotional processing. Balance, time with your family and friends and business is maybe your career prospect, studies, any of that stuff. So just have something in each of those four quadrants in three years and then. Divide that back into one of the weekly targets and the daily habits that I need to do to keep me moving towards that. And by the time you're twenty one, you'll be an absolute monster.

• 1:17:02Chris Williamson?

  Bastard. Yeah. Johnny? Two things.

• 1:17:07Jonny?

Uh. First, set some time aside every day to read something or listen to a book. Cause I think it's. I think it's the easiest way to just expand your thinking, improve your vocabulary. Uh. Improve your understanding of a range of topics. Like I would, I would pick books in different areas and just accumulate knowledge. Because if you install that habit, by the time you're twenty one, you'll learn so much that, that your friends won't have. Second one is try and be mindful or aware of your ego in situations. And how it can influence what, how you react and what you do.

• 1:17:49Jonny?

Cause I think it leads to a lot of like knee jerk reactions.

• 1:17:53Chris Williamson?

Muddy, muddy's the water of a lot of stuff, right? I think both of those are fantastic and probably lead on from what I would have said. So for someone who's seventeen, just.

• 1:18:04Chris Williamson?

If it was me, I would focus on being as truthful and honest as I can, and that's with everybody. Um. From myself to the people around me and the ego thing is, is totally, totally true. Um. There's this lovely quote from Eckhart Tolle where he, in The Power of Now, where he talks about. When you have a conversation with someone and they are defending a position even though they know that it's wrong. And the reason that they're so terrified of admitting that it's wrong is because that admission is tantamount to destruction.

• 1:18:35Jonny?

  Yep.

• 1:18:36Chris Williamson?

And the removal of the ego removes your attachment to that element of you. And as soon as you can do that, your capacity for growth just goes through the roof.

• 1:18:43Jonny?

Instead, you've got this basal digging the heels in because of the fear of death and the fear of.

• 1:18:50Chris Williamson?

That's such, it's such a huge thing, like allowing yourself to be wrong and embracing being wrong. And like actually to a degree, desiring being proven to be wrong. Is, it's great. It's a lovely feeling.

• 1:19:03Jonny?

Especially when you're seventeen, I think you, you already feel.

• 1:19:05Chris Williamson?

You're gonna be wrong more than you're gonna be.

• 1:19:06Jonny?

You're gonna be wrong more than, yeah, but you're also wanting to, you're not stable in your, in your character or anything. And so you want to try and like get a footing and dig things in, even if it's not correct.

• 1:19:17Chris Williamson?

There's an idea of if you approach a, like a discussion and open with your opinion. You immediately reduce the amount you could have learned from that situation by allowing someone else to give their unfiltered opinion. If you aim, I think we're all so eager to be right and. That comes back to turning conversations into tennis matches, doesn't it? You wait for someone to finish so that it's your turn to hit the ball. And if you try, if you, if you aim to speak about half as much as you listen, I think that's probably a pretty good rule of thumb. That's why we've got two ears and one mouth. There you go. Do you remember meeting me at Universal Studios, Rene Huesca? Yes, I do. It was very nice to meet you, Rene. She was the one person in America that asked for a photo with me. Because Love Island season one was on Hulu.

• 1:20:00Jonny?

  On Hulu?

• 1:20:01Chris Williamson?

Hulu. Do you keep in contact with anyone you were in the villa with from XOX, Gemma XOX?

• 1:20:09Chris Williamson?

Yes, we've got all of the guys on WhatsApp and do keep in touch whenever I see anything relevant. I probably speak to John Clark and Max the most. Max is still doing pretty good. I think he might be moving away, actually. John Clark smashing it on Towie, Josh Ritchie shagging Charlotte Crosby, so fair play. Jordan Ring is just being massive. Advice for an 18 year old wanting to go to the Games, hashtag it's gonna happen. Underscore the underscore, Hoi underscore. Fuck, get yourself a good programmer. Warrior programming is fantastic. Get someone who does your programming, get someone that does your nutrition. Set a long-term goal. Like, don't aim to go to the Games in two years' time. Aim to be at the Games when you're 23 or 25.

• 1:20:51Chris Williamson?

It's not the same now as when Rich Fronian and Josh Bridges and even like people like T. Wright and Brooke, Brooke Wells and people like that. It's not the same as it was when they were the,

• 1:21:03Chris Williamson?

the caliber of people when Annie Thoristota went and did the Games. People were still doing kipping muscle ups as opposed to butterfly because that was the level of advancement. And there were so many more, it was so much less refined and the level of competition was so lower. It is like, from the outside looking in, it still may look like the equivalent of a cottage industry. But it is a fully, it's half a mil when you win now. That's the prize money this year in the 2018 CrossFit Games. And Matt Fraser will be, for the rest of his life, he's just bought a plot of land that's got eight acres on it. And has like a barn that's about two acres.

• 1:21:40Jonny?

I imagine the prize money is like the tip of the iceberg for what they get for the sponsorship and

• 1:21:46Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:21:47Jonny?

Influence and all that sort of shit.

• 1:21:48Speaker 02

There's the quote from Tony Robbins, it's like, everyone overestimates what they can accomplish in a year, but underestimates what they can accomplish in a decade. So, yeah, as you said, like. Aim for it.

• 1:22:02Chris Williamson?

It comes back to what did we say about being seventeen, like, set yourself a long term goal, break it down day by day. And get someone, eh eh make yourself externally accountable. If you're eighteen, being frank, like, your capacity to have perspective is almost zero.

• 1:22:15Speaker 02

Zero. Oh man, one more thing for the seventeen as well, like, looking back, the amount of, I think, hold yourself to higher standards than your immediate peer group.

• 1:22:23Chris Williamson?

Yeah, seventeen year olds are fucking idiots.

• 1:22:25Speaker 02

Cause I did a, I I, my first degree was maths and business and a lot of the people on the degree were absolute waste men and because I was smashing it in relative terms. I thought, oh, great, um, yeah, but actually, like, my, my work ethic and my, like, actual output was so low.

• 1:22:41Chris Williamson?

Hang around with some older people. Hang around with some people that are three years older than you, five years older than you, and just get what you can from them. Lean what you can from them.

• 1:22:48Jonny?

Or like find people you admire online. I think that's something.

• 1:22:51Chris Williamson?

Contact them, listen to podcasts, consume content.

• 1:22:53Jonny?

I don't feel like that existed when I was seventeen.

• 1:22:56Chris Williamson?

  Definitely not.

• 1:22:56Jonny?

Well, but like, the number of people you can listen to and just like hours and hours, years of content online from people who are really impressive people.

• 1:23:05Chris Williamson?

  Modernism.

• 1:23:05Jonny?

Um. RJ, just before we move on.

• 1:23:09Chris Williamson?

  Yep.

• 1:23:09Jonny?

I feel like eighteen to twenty eight, for me, ages, like absolutely ages, so much has happened.

• 1:23:16Chris Williamson?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:23:16Jonny?

But I feel like I'll be thirty eight before I know what's happened.

• 1:23:18Speaker 02

Yeah, I feel like a blink to it.

• 1:23:19Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:20Chris Williamson?

  Well, yeah.

• 1:23:21Jonny?

  Isn't that strange?

• 1:23:22Speaker 02

Yeah, it's worrying. Well, so they say like, speed of time increases as you get older because you've got the same.

• 1:23:29Jonny?

  Less variety.

• 1:23:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, more familiar experiences.

• 1:23:31Chris Williamson?

I think if you, if you can try and cultivate a growth mindset though, I think that you can slow that, that time difference by an awful lot. Um, there is.

• 1:23:41Chris Williamson?

Not Susanna Howanen, who I did a podcast with recently, Gretchen Rubin talks about trying to vary your life as much as possible. To slow that down, so taking different routes to work. There are things like that, like varying, eating with the left hand, like just doing as much as you can for to vary your life.

• 1:23:57Speaker 02

The, the master of that, isn't he, with all the, all the travel and.

• 1:24:00Jonny?

I, well, you know what you said about setting sort of three year ninety day goals.

• 1:24:04Speaker 02

  Mm hmm.

• 1:24:04Jonny?

And you look back over a year and you're like, wow, look at what I've done across all these parts of my life. Then, when ten years go by, you can almost look back and go.

• 1:24:11Chris Williamson?

Cause the problem is, it's not the experienced self, because the time doesn't go any quicker or any slower, it's the remembered self.

• 1:24:17Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:17Chris Williamson?

  So you're right, it's about.

• 1:24:19Jonny?

  Having reference points.

• 1:24:19Chris Williamson?

Yes. Um, RJ Smith, five one five.

• 1:24:24Chris Williamson?

How do you go about deciding what career is right for you and what to do in a job you're in? Um, but don't enjoy, if that makes sense. I'm a support worker at twenty six, having done sports science at uni, got a crappy grade and don't know what the best career path for myself is.

• 1:24:40Jonny?

Um. So we, I mean, we, we've both had a major change of career path, um, and so have you to an extent.

• 1:24:48Chris Williamson?

Um. So what would you do if money was no object? They go, they, so what would you do if you didn't have to pay for anything anymore? And money was no object. What do you spend your time?

• 1:24:59Jonny?

I suppose as, as long as that, cause a lot of people, cause we, we, I get asked this quite a bit. I imagine you do too. People see that I've left accountancy to do online fitness and they're like, what a weird direction. I think some people when asked in that back say, oh yeah, but I'm really into fishing. I can't monetize that.

• 1:25:18Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 1:25:18Jonny?

Like there's. Yes, you can. Yeah, there's, there's ways to monetize most things.

• 1:25:22Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 1:25:22Jonny?

And I think there's the risk that you turn your hobby or your passion into a career or into a job and end up hating your passion. But I think if you structure it right, I like, the way I feel about it is if you are like deeply, deeply passionate about something, you will be able to, and this is what Alan Watt says, like if you love doing something, you'll be good at it. And if you're really good at it, you'll be able to command a good fee or a, or a good income from whatever it is that you do. So start with that question. So, yeah, like, and you, you may be passionate, you may not. And if you don't, if you're not blessed with passion in something and you can't force it, then be strategic about it and say, what, what do I value? Do I value time? Do I value money? Do I value freedom? And this will change over the, the years.

• 1:26:07Jonny?

But a lot of people, and, and you know, I went to work in finance and in asset manager and a lot of these people who work there, they, they were really passionate about finance, plus they really valued money.

• 1:26:19Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 1:26:19Jonny?

Much more than they valued time. And so I remember getting a message at eight AM UK time from someone in the New York office, New Start, saying, hey, can you send me some slides for this thing on, or it was on chat. And I was like, isn't it four AM for you? And she was like, yeah.

• 1:26:33Speaker 02

Since nine A M this morning, like that kind of lifestyle, if you value money over and above all else, then yeah. I, you know, there's my supervisor, um, so I, for anyone who doesn't know me, I, I transitioned into medicine. Um, alongside propane from finance is one of the best decisions I've made, but, um. The, so that my supervisor at the moment did something similar and said to me like, money is not, so he, he runs a private. Private company, but is a, is a doctor at the same time was like, now, like, if I were to scale my business nationally.

• 1:27:12Speaker 02

What would it do for my income? Like, it, it wouldn't really give me much additional benefit. It would only increase the, the quali- quality of the problems that I have. And so I, I don't wanna have to deal with that. It's like, I, additional money at this point isn't gonna help me. So.

• 1:27:27Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:27Speaker 02

But I think when you've got, whatever you have the least of, you hunger for that. And then you think like, I'm just gonna go to the top level for that. People are like, oh. I want, I wanna ten million pound business or a billion pound, but you're like.

• 1:27:42Jonny?

The research says that after about fifty thousand pounds, fifty five thousand pounds, happiness does not increase with money.

• 1:27:47Speaker 02

But it's so hard to, to see that when you're earning much less than that, cause you think like, wow, well.

• 1:27:52Jonny?

Love that. And like, there's so much literature around scaling past a million as a business, just creates problems beyond what most people are willing to tolerate. I think something that I really like is it, in keeping with the strategy, like if something isn't, I'm passionate about this, look at what you are. Better at than your friendship group, like look at, if, what are you, what are your friends go like, oh, he's, he or she's really good at this. And everyone has something.

• 1:28:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:28:17Jonny?

And I think that's a, an indicator of his skills.

• 1:28:20Speaker 02

It takes so much introspective work to work out what that was. So. Really good example that I like is, what did you do between the ages of maybe about six and fourteen? What were your hobbies that you did back then? There's this great example that Gretchen Rubin uses, where she talks about the world's best color picker. So this woman chooses selections of colors that match together from however many there is four billion colors. And she selects the ones that work, and it's for like massive dual looks, Vivienne Westwood. And she matches these colors together. And they said, so what, what are your professional qualifications in this? And so, well, nothing but.

• 1:28:55Chris Williamson?

When I was about ten years old, I had like the largest Crayola crayon set that you can get. And I used to just spend all of my time doing that. And to bring it back to me, when I was a kid, I was an absolute gobshite, wouldn't shut up. And I used to listen, I used to listen to audiobooks. What is the twenty years later, twenty years hence, what is the manifestation of that?

• 1:29:14Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 1:29:14Chris Williamson?

It's talking and listening on a podcast.

• 1:29:15Speaker 02

  Oh, man.

• 1:29:17Chris Williamson?

And that weirdly poetically justice to sort of finish off that, the what would you do if money is no object is a really, really good way to do it. Another um useful tool to use is to try and work out a Venn diagram of what you're good at. What you love to do, what society needs and what you can be paid for. And if you can try and find out where all of those things intersect, that's probably going to be somewhere close to your calling. Now, that's not necessarily going to be the most fulfilling because as is shown by the Venn diagram, you're going to have to sacrifice some of what you love to do for some of what you can be paid for. And a bunch of other things.

• 1:29:52Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:29:52Chris Williamson?

But, you know, we work within these grey areas a lot of the time and it it's great to go dick and balls for one thing. But a lot of the time, trying to find a modicum of balance is probably a pretty good way to go.

• 1:30:02Speaker 02

Yeah, and the guy asking this question is a support worker right now. And a lot of people would say that's an extremely fulfilling role because you're very hands on and you're very, you're helping people on a one on one basis. But if it's not fulfilling you, there's nothing wrong with you, there's nothing wrong with the job. It's just that it's not the way that you derive fulfillment from adding value to people in a certain way. So like.

• 1:30:21Chris Williamson?

I think there's no worse way to spend your life than do something every day for the majority of your time that you don't enjoy doing.

• 1:30:29Speaker 02

  Oh, my god.

• 1:30:30Chris Williamson?

I honestly think it's the worst decision you can make.

• 1:30:32Speaker 02

I would have been seriously depressed or probably killed myself within ten years if I'd stayed at Blackrock. Do I like, uh, obviously forces would have meant that you would have.

• 1:30:41Chris Williamson?

  You'd eventually, yeah.

• 1:30:42Speaker 02

Yeah, it would change the thing. But if, you know, if if there was, if we were in a communist government and I had to do that, then.

• 1:30:48Chris Williamson?

Out of the window. Um, there's a photo of you, just in keeping with Chris's thing, there's a photo of you where you've arranged all your toys in order. In a perfect sense.

• 1:30:57Jonny?

And that's just, I think, like, investment by the doctor, very, very competent with websites and technology. There's a next one.

• 1:31:07Speaker 02

  Early diagnostic sign.

• 1:31:11Chris Williamson?

Brief one here, how important is it to stay in the 10 to 15% body fat range for hypertrophy?

• 1:31:15Speaker 02

Roots PT, Roots, Andrew, thank you for the shout outs recently and the, the shares of podcasts and so on, really appreciate it.

• 1:31:23Chris Williamson?

  Oh, thank you.

• 1:31:24Speaker 02

Um, I remember seeing you in, like a.

• 1:31:27Jonny?

  Biker Grove.

• 1:31:28Speaker 02

Like a DW Fitness and thinking.

• 1:31:29Chris Williamson?

Let's get ready, ready, let's get ready, ready, let's get ready to rumble. If I get popped on YouTube for that fucking music usage, because we're so, tonally, we're so close, yeah.

• 1:31:39Speaker 02

  Oh, God, um.

• 1:31:42Jonny?

  Not important.

• 1:31:44Speaker 02

  For, for gaining muscle.

• 1:31:46Chris Williamson?

  That's easier.

• 1:31:46Speaker 02

Like, so, so, yeah, there, there are, there's physiological metrics for saying that if, you know, your, your hormonal profile goes out of whack if you're too much above 15% because fat and adipocytes are a endocrine organ in themselves, they produce estrogen. And so if you have too much fat on your body, you're going to be producing more estrogen than you should, that's not conducive to muscle gain. But the other thing is that it's just a waste of time gaining too much fat and having to then spend six or eight months cutting back. The simplest solution would be eat a surplus that is moderate enough so that you know, you don't stray above that.

• 1:32:20Chris Williamson?

  0.5% a.

• 1:32:22Speaker 02

0.5% body weight per week loss. And if you're gaining 0.5% a month, or if you've been training for a while, I, I mean, I, I, I imagine Andrew's asking this out of interest because last time I saw you, pretty lean, so.

• 1:32:36Chris Williamson?

On the flip side of that though, you know, trying to maintain eight or nine percent whilst gaining muscle as well, like.

• 1:32:43Speaker 02

Yeah, trying to stay too lean, obviously.

• 1:32:45Chris Williamson?

You, you're going to be playing about with such fine, um, caloric discrepancies.

• 1:32:52Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 1:32:53Chris Williamson?

That it's going to be a fucking nightmare, like, give yourself, allow yourself to relinquish one thing that no one really ever talks about when they talk about, um.

• 1:33:00Jonny?

Training and diet in terms of like a typical bulk bulk cut cycle is that willpower is a finite resource. Everyone just treats bodybuilders and fitness models and people that go to the gym like they're just like a fucking robot that's got inputs and outputs. It's like, no, like, if you've been in a moderately restricted diet for eight months, keeping you trying to grow at nine percent or eight percent. And then you have to cut from there. Like, where's the fucking willpower? You're gonna have lost the will to live.

• 1:33:27Speaker 02

Absolutely. And I I should say as well, like, maybe that's where the question is coming from, that you're staying below that range and what, you know. But, yeah, being seven, six percent, like, you then you have the opposite problem. Your androgens start to drop. And so that's also not conducive to muscle gain.

• 1:33:43Jonny?

So to a degree, ten to fifteen percent is a.

• 1:33:46Speaker 02

There's a sweet spot and like ten, ten to twelve percent, as far as anyone else is concerned, looking at you on a beach.

• 1:33:52Jonny?

  You're gonna be shredded.

• 1:33:52Speaker 02

Yeah, they go, oh, that guy's a bodybuilder. He's he's big and lean. Like.

• 1:33:56Jonny?

Abs lean, you'll you'll have a little bit of vascularity.

• 1:33:59Speaker 02

And you'll be you'll have you'll be bigger from the intramuscular fat as well. So the only time that the only person that ever cares whether you're seven percent or nine percent is you.

• 1:34:07Jonny?

  I.

• 1:34:08Speaker 02

  Even your partner, I'd like.

• 1:34:10Jonny?

I wouldn't say even bother worrying about body fat percentage. I just, I know it's, I know there has to be a frame for the question, but like. It's so difficult to say, am I ten percent, eleven percent, thirteen percent, seventeen percent? So I would get, the model we use with everyone we work with is get to the point where you are as happy objectively as you can possibly be with how lean you are. You don't mind adding a bit of calories. Try to retain visually as that that leanness as much as possible. Try to keep your body weight as stable as possible, allowing slight increase and focus on adding weight to the bar or doing more total work over time. And naturally, by by virtue of that, you will be adding muscle mass at the maximum physiological rate and just set calories to be permissive to muscle.

• 1:34:51Chris Williamson?

Not not point five percent to one percent per month is a.

• 1:34:55Jonny?

  At at most.

• 1:34:56Chris Williamson?

  Gain.

• 1:34:56Jonny?

  Yeah, at most, but.

• 1:34:57Speaker 02

There is, there's a video on this that that related, it's a grid and it relate a matrix and it relates to how many years of training you've had. And how much muscle gain that equates to.

• 1:35:07Jonny?

  Yeah.

• 1:35:07Speaker 02

  As far as.

• 1:35:08Jonny?

  Interesting.

• 1:35:11Chris Williamson?

DJ Slacky 85. First one, when's the Leon Scott podcast coming out? I have got a reminder set for about four days' time to give him a message. For those people who don't know, Leon Scott is a pretty well-known Instagram model. And I got him to agree to come on, but he's got a crazy busy shoot schedule. So I haven't been able to get him yet, but I promise I will. He's only from Middlesbrough, she's just down the road. And there's someone who's like 150k on Instagram and he does like Herald London, which you may have heard of and Chain Enable. And like, he does big dick campaigns, huge big dick social media influencer campaigns. But he's the guy that suggested that we go to the Kadampa Compassion Centre and do Buddhist meditation.

• 1:35:56Chris Williamson?

So he was the guy that inspired me. Yeah, he's the one that inspired me to go there. So this guy is, we're talking earlier on about being an enigma and having multi-facets in your personality. This guy is like completely out of, he's an outlier and it's going to be super, super interesting. I have no idea, literally I have no idea what I'm going to hear when I sit down with him. I've never heard him speak on a, he doesn't do like recorded voice. He also plays professional football for Darlington Football Club. He's got like this like super fit girlfriend and he's always in Bali and doing cool shit. And then you're on to a photo shoot and then he'll be training and then he'll be, he's released a, like eBooks and all sorts of stuff. He's an interesting fucking guy. So to Chris, can you describe your transition

• 1:36:38Chris Williamson?

from training the typical weight training split to the way you do now? In terms of what you notice in your physique changes and how your diet has changed. You look a lot bigger than your Love Island shape, yet still lean.

• 1:36:50Jonny?

  Chris Fit Podcast.

• 1:36:51Chris Williamson?

Chris Fit Podcast. Yeah. So Propane Fitness and search Chris Fit.

• 1:36:54Jonny?

That's satisfying to be like, oh.

• 1:36:55Chris Williamson?

You've got, oh, we've actually got like a two hour discussion on exactly that.

• 1:36:59Jonny?

It's available on YouTube or on iTunes.

• 1:37:01Chris Williamson?

Yeah, just search, just Google Propane Fitness, Chris Fit and you will find it.

• 1:37:05Jonny?

Love Island, fat loss, Chris training.

• 1:37:07Chris Williamson?

Yeah, we even discussed Uber helicopters in that one.

• 1:37:09Jonny?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:37:10Chris Williamson?

It's like the first podcast we ever did with you.

• 1:37:12Jonny?

Yeah, that was the first one. So the most interesting thing on that, watch Chris's podcast presence. That's the most impressive transformation.

• 1:37:19Chris Williamson?

Yeah, you're probably right. I've changed, I've changed my capacity on a podcast more than my physique, I think. To try and distill that down. Doing CrossFit means such training from that to how I am now, it's just been CrossFit. Like, I wish that I could say it was something else. I wish that there was some secret sauce, that some solution that I'd added in. And it's not, it's just been CrossFit. And I think, again, we go back to blunt force trauma. Like, it's an awful lot of volume, very frequently. I'm training a lot more frequently than I used to. The reason for that is because I like the way that I train. What that distills down to is choose a training methodology which you enjoy. If you enjoy it, you will train more. And if you train more, you will elicit gains more quickly than you would have done if you weren't. There's something called MRV, which is maximum recoverable volume.

• 1:38:04Chris Williamson?

And for an awful lot of people that go to the gym normally, I think they're miles below that. The number of people that overtrain, unless they're in a fucking heavy calorie deficit.

• 1:38:12Speaker 02

People are so worried about overtraining, aren't they? They're like, oh mate, what if I'm, I'm doing five sets of squats this week and I'm worried about overtraining.

• 1:38:18Chris Williamson?

It's like, fuck off, mate. Like, you know.

• 1:38:20Jonny?

Your, your mind will limit your overtraining way before you can even touch overtraining for like 99% of the population.

• 1:38:26Chris Williamson?

  Train more. It's train more.

• 1:38:27Speaker 02

I, I've not seen someone lift as much volume and, and just have the like, the capacity to just hit his head off a wall.

• 1:38:34Chris Williamson?

  Yeah.

• 1:38:34Speaker 02

  So much as Johnny and.

• 1:38:36Jonny?

I've been, I think I've been pretty fucking.

• 1:38:37Chris Williamson?

I think you've been close to overtraining.

• 1:38:39Jonny?

I had, I had a time where I had to, I passed out on the sofa while watching, uh, so I got in from the gym, lay down and just fell asleep and woke up several hours later feeling terrible shakes and shivers. But I still don't think I was overtrained.

• 1:38:53Speaker 02

So just because you did like a hard set of curls, doesn't mean.

• 1:38:55Jonny?

Yeah. Yeah. Proppinfitness.com forward slash, or just proppinfitness.com MRV. There's an article on it by the guy who coined the concept.

• 1:39:02Chris Williamson?

  Oh, wow.

• 1:39:03Jonny?

  Mike Isretel.

• 1:39:04Chris Williamson?

That is big dick. Um, so in terms of diet, for maybe the last 18 months, I ate, I've, because I was training more, it allowed me to eat more. Whether you believe in G flux theory or not, I'm not really too sure, but I was eating more, I was training more. Like, it doesn't take a genius to work out what's gonna happen. Like, um, the kind of physique as well that I consider to be aesthetically pleasing has changed an awful lot from like the tiny waist, massive shoulders, underdeveloped, like lower back, zero glutes kind of fitness model thing.

• 1:39:38Chris Williamson?

To now, for me, a functional physique is much more. Fuckers fuck fuck. Like thick in the midsection, you know, look at someone like as a, as a good example, if you don't follow CrossFit, uh, Google or Instagram, Noah Olson. Uh, O H L S E N, Noah Olson, um, or. Brent Fikowski, for someone who's like big and tall and lean, he's like six, four, walks around at seven percent body fat and eats. Yeah, six thousand, seven thousand calories a day, six hundred grams of carbs. That's what peeled out of his mind.

• 1:40:15Jonny?

This is something I'd like to ask you, related to this, has CrossFit changed what you find attractive in a woman?

• 1:40:23Chris Williamson?

Absolutely, yeah. So, um, again, because I have no idea when this one's going to get published, I don't know if this is in the future or in the past. At some point, I will do a podcast with Sonny Webster. From today, it will be one week's time.

• 1:40:36Chris Williamson?

  When it's recorded.

• 1:40:37Jonny?

Make the fourth one thing so much worse than it needs to be.

• 1:40:41Chris Williamson?

So it's seven days from now, but that might be fourteen days in the past or the future for you, depending on. The posting schedule. So, um, and me and Sonny have this discussion an awful lot. One of the things that we're going to bring up on that is going to be that there is a, for both men and women. There are massive advantages and disadvantages of finding other people that do CrossFit and strength sports attractive. One of the ones for men is that you are essentially forced to have sex from a deficit. Reason being that if you are doing a girl from behind who is particularly well-developed in the gluteal area. That essentially your hips are pushed further away from the point of entry, which is sex from a deficit.

• 1:41:25Chris Williamson?

And I really don't care how big your piece is.

• 1:41:29Jonny?

Standing, doing a deadlift, standing on a plate. So like reduced range of motion or increased range?

• 1:41:34Chris Williamson?

  Reduced. Well, you've got.

• 1:41:36Jonny?

Increased range of, range of motion theoretically. But the reduced, reduced actual.

• 1:41:42Chris Williamson?

So the, it's like, it's like putting a, it's like benching, it's like benching with plates, benching with a, from a. There's a fixed distance internally, fixed distance, right?

• 1:41:51Speaker 02

  I.

• 1:41:51Chris Williamson?

There is a blockage externally preventing you taking advantage of the internal fixed distance.

• 1:41:55Speaker 02

You'd be deadlifting from it, you're like rack pulls then or.

• 1:41:58Chris Williamson?

Yeah, okay, yeah, so not from it, it's not, yeah, board press.

• 1:42:00Speaker 02

  Board press, what's that?

• 1:42:01Chris Williamson?

But I don't think that is what it is.

• 1:42:02Speaker 02

It's from a deficit in terms of. Saying that the the the the glute mass and your anterior thigh mass.

• 1:42:08Chris Williamson?

Is increasing the range of motion, increasing the total range of motion that you are required to do.

• 1:42:13Speaker 02

  Round.

• 1:42:14Chris Williamson?

Do you know what it is? You have something tells me that when I ask Sonny Webster this question, this isn't going to occur.

• 1:42:22Speaker 02

Trying to decide. By like the the autistic.

• 1:42:24Chris Williamson?

Trying to decide whether to rack pull or a deficit deadlift.

• 1:42:30Chris Williamson?

But it is a deficit deadlift.

• 1:42:32Speaker 02

A deficit deadlift would increase the range.

• 1:42:33Chris Williamson?

  Which is what it's doing.

• 1:42:35Speaker 02

  But the the actual.

• 1:42:35Chris Williamson?

How is it decreasing the range?

• 1:42:37Speaker 02

Penetration range, if if if there's a barrier.

• 1:42:39Chris Williamson?

So it's decreasing the penetration, but increasing the range that you have to perform.

• 1:42:43Speaker 02

So it's increasing your hip hip movement.

• 1:42:45Chris Williamson?

  Yeah, which is the.

• 1:42:46Speaker 02

Can we get back to the fact, okay, so my, and here's here's, so it's twofold, okay?

• 1:42:50Chris Williamson?

The first one is, I don't care how big your piece is, you cannot afford to lose an inch to two inches.

• 1:42:56Speaker 02

  Mm hmm.

• 1:42:56Chris Williamson?

Off length, like no one can, doesn't matter how well long you are.

• 1:42:59Speaker 02

What's that, like that question, the men's health one?

• 1:43:03Chris Williamson?

The. An inch off your penis or an inch off your?

• 1:43:04Speaker 02

It's gain an inch on your penis, gain six inches of height or twenty pounds of muscle, fifteen pounds of muscle.

• 1:43:11Chris Williamson?

Fifteen pounds of muscle. You, if you were, if you were six inches tall, you'd be fucked.

• 1:43:15Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:43:15Chris Williamson?

  Um.

• 1:43:15Speaker 02

Fifteen pounds of muscle is gonna.

• 1:43:16Chris Williamson?

  So that's it, that's a, that's a first part, right?

• 1:43:19Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 1:43:19Chris Williamson?

And then on the flip side, as a woman who's in strength sports. You know, if you're really, really pushing at it, it is inevitable that your range of motion is going to be reduced. Muscle mass is, tends to be pretty contrary to range of motion and. I don't really care how strong you are, but as a woman, if your knees can no longer touch your shoulders. You've sacrificed too much, like, yes, you're strong.

• 1:43:46Speaker 02

  Mm hmm.

• 1:43:46Chris Williamson?

  But at what cost?

• 1:43:50Chris Williamson?

Because both you and I have lost out from that.

• 1:43:52Jonny?

  Hmm.

• 1:43:53Chris Williamson?

  So, yeah, the.

• 1:43:54Speaker 02

It's like the combination of the lack of range causes it worse.

• 1:43:57Chris Williamson?

Well, you've got, you've got from front, from front and back, you've got reduced like penetrable distance.

• 1:44:04Chris Williamson?

Doesn't matter where you put them.

• 1:44:05Jonny?

  Fine.

• 1:44:06Chris Williamson?

  They're not.

• 1:44:06Speaker 02

So is there an advantage to you getting pancake and splits?

• 1:44:11Chris Williamson?

Absolutely. There you go. What, as a man or as a woman?

• 1:44:12Speaker 02

As well, both, but for you as a man.

• 1:44:14Chris Williamson?

For me as a man, not really, because it doesn't, it doesn't really matter what I do.

• 1:44:18Speaker 02

So I found my box splits and adductor, uh, my, my abduction is, um, is.

• 1:44:25Chris Williamson?

To allow you to scoop underneath a little bit more.

• 1:44:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's been very helpful.

• 1:44:27Chris Williamson?

How about you with Romwood, Johnny? Because you, you deadlift Sumo, so has, has Becca noticed the difference in the?

• 1:44:33Jonny?

I think Romwood for me brings me back to normal rather than puts me into supernormal. Like, I think my flexibility is probably pretty poor in the strength world, better than like your average person.

• 1:44:46Chris Williamson?

  Hmm.

• 1:44:46Jonny?

But like, if you're comparing yourself to someone who's like struggling to hold themselves in position for more than 10 seconds or, you know, gets out of breath very quickly, then.

• 1:44:54Chris Williamson?

  But you do currently.

• 1:44:55Jonny?

Right now, yeah, you've just got to take regular breaks.

• 1:44:57Speaker 02

  Well, like you, I mean.

• 1:44:58Jonny?

Regular breaks and regular sips of water. Yeah, don't push yourself too hard.

• 1:45:02Speaker 02

Like, it's, it's legitimately a problem. Like, we joke, but there are people who turn up to IVF clinics and the advice is just loosen weight because mechanically you, you can't.

• 1:45:11Jonny?

  You're not achieving it.

• 1:45:12Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:45:13Jonny?

There, so they're deadlifting on two or three, 20, 20 kilo.

• 1:45:17Speaker 02

Like, the bar is actually lower than, lower than like they can reach.

• 1:45:20Jonny?

It's a seal rope rather than a deadlift.

• 1:45:22Speaker 02

  Oh, man, yeah.

• 1:45:23Chris Williamson?

That's heavy. Um, right. I think we've pretty much completed it. There's loads left over, but that's an hour and 45.

• 1:45:30Jonny?

  We've completed podcasting.

• 1:45:32Chris Williamson?

We really did today. It's got dark outside, it's thundering. Yeah, we, we have to start again on a high difficulty setting now.

• 1:45:38Jonny?

  Of course.

• 1:45:38Chris Williamson?

But you get God mode and you get new outfits.

• 1:45:40Jonny?

And it's left, left, RB, LB, left, left, right, triangle, square, X.

• 1:45:47Chris Williamson?

  Menu.

• 1:45:49Chris Williamson?

And then you get, you unlock all the things. Drop them all to her. Stuff that will be coming up, bloody hell. Well, I have no idea of the production schedule, but I know that I'm going to get Alex from Cosmic Skeptic, who is a really interesting bastard. I'm going to have Sonny Webster coming up pretty soon. Sonny will be talking about doping and P Ds in sports, which as a. Especially recently. Well, the Emily Abbott from CrossFit and a bunch of other CrossFit athletes have been popped. Remembering that Sonny is unable to weightlift competitively for four years because of exactly the same thing. So that's going to be really interesting. Is he now on CrossFit? No, no, he's just, he's travelling the world, giving weightlifting seminars. And he's a strong guy.

• 1:46:34Chris Williamson?

Yeah, strong guy. Tim Briggs is going to be on talking about eating for performance. Paul Warrior, Jordan and Tim will be back doing what they do. And we have got life fails, life hacks one of five and one of six to go through. And honesty. Honesty. We've got relationships one or two. We've got the single one. We've got running your own business. We have got so much stuff coming up. All that I need you to do. Strength as well, which you really want to do. All that I really need you to do, if you're still listening after, after one hour and forty eight minutes, if you are still listening, a couple of things that I want you to do. First one is head to youtube.com slash modern wisdom podcast and press subscribe.

• 1:47:14Chris Williamson?

The second one is to tweet at propane fitness saying, please do another podcast. Because they don't like notifications and if you keep on doing it, it'll annoy them into coming around to my house all weekend. Well, you've turned them off. Yeah, absolutely. It's going to annoy, it's going to annoy Joe then. But she'll pass that down. It's like a graveyard as far as I'm concerned. It's pointless, pointless. I do Twitter. I tweet. DM them on Instagram because that'll come through. Anyway, thanks a lot. Johnny wants to see that. Okay, bye then. Bye, dude. Okay, bye then.
