• 0:06Mark Normand?

Hey, we're here, we might be drunk, folks, we're back!

• 0:09Sam Morril?

We're talking right now, is the thumbs up in text? Are you talking like when you highlight the text and do the thumbs up?

• 0:15Mark Normand?

  Yes.

• 0:15Sam Morril?

Or just the big thumbs up?

• 0:17Mark Normand?

I think the big one works. Big thumbs up.

• 0:18Sam Morril?

  They're both passive aggressive.

• 0:19Mark Normand?

Yeah, but that, I got a big one from a guy I want to like me, and I was crushed.

• 0:24Sam Morril?

  Was it a comic?

• 0:25Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 0:26Sam Morril?

  Was it Jerry?

• 0:27Mark Normand?

No, he doesn't know how to do that. He's using a fucking landline. But it was a comic we all love and know, and he's been on the show, but he gave me one of the, uh...

• 0:37Sam Morril?

Well, how old is that person?

• 0:38Mark Normand?

I said like, "I loved your show or your special," and he went...

• 0:41Sam Morril?

  Thumbs up.

• 0:41Mark Normand?

Yeah, but comics can't take a compliment. Ah!

• 0:44Sam Morril?

  Ah, I got it!

• 0:45Mark Normand?

  And one!

• 0:46Sam Morril?

  I didn't guess.

• 0:46Mark Normand?

Hey, Mark. Thank you, thank you. And it was the big yellow one, too. Ah!

• 0:52Sam Morril?

  Thumbs up?

• 0:53Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 0:53Sam Morril?

  That's kinda mean.

• 0:54Mark Normand?

  Well...

• 0:55Sam Morril?

  To "I loved your special"?

• 0:57Mark Normand?

I said something, I said something like...

• 0:59Sam Morril?

To "I loved your..." I think you would say "thanks" to "I loved..."

• 1:01Mark Normand?

Yeah, well, yeah, it might have been something else.

• 1:03Sam Morril?

Yeah, "to I loved your special," that's painful.

• 1:05Mark Normand?

Also, we had been chatting a little, and then I think he kinda was like, "Alright, I'm done here."

• 1:10Sam Morril?

That is the problem with texting, is knowing when to dip out, 'cause if somebody's got a long one going...

• 1:15Mark Normand?

  Yes.

• 1:15Sam Morril?

And I'm nervous, I... Even if it's like a famous dude, I don't wanna over...

• 1:20Mark Normand?

  No.

• 1:22Sam Morril?

Where I'm like, "I don't want you to think I'm trying to like, get something, I'm just..."

• 1:25Mark Normand?

  Totally.

• 1:26Sam Morril?

  You know?

• 1:26Mark Normand?

And I think it's an age thing, over 50, they don't like texting all day. Like, we can go back and forth all night, you know? Uh, but over 50-year-old guy, they're like in and out on text.

• 1:37Sam Morril?

I saw Paul Rudd at a Knicks game, and he just came up and started chatting with me, he's really cool, really nice guy. But I also don't wanna be the guy who where he's like, "Alright, well, it was good..."

• 1:46Mark Normand?

  Of course!

• 1:46Sam Morril?

So I'm the one who's like, "Well, it was great to see you," like, "Let me get out."

• 1:49Mark Normand?

  Yes.

• 1:50Sam Morril?

"Let me hit that eject button."

• 1:52Mark Normand?

Yes, in the words of Costanza, "The longer I stay here, the more damage I'll do."

• 1:56Sam Morril?

  I know.

• 1:57Mark Normand?

So I get in, I get out, and get out of the house.

• 1:58Sam Morril?

How sad is it that that's both our confidence level in any...

• 2:01Mark Normand?

  Totally.

• 2:01Sam Morril?

We're professional entertainers, and I'm like, "The more we talk to you, we will ruin it."

• 2:05Mark Normand?

Well, we'll say an abortion joke, or I don't know.

• 2:08Sam Morril?

Oh my god, I did it the other night, I was at a bar, it was at a random bar, just... Really nice guy, compin' drinks, I'm getting ha- I'm hammered, I'm hammered after the Knicks' loss.

• 2:16Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 2:17Sam Morril?

And his wife is really nice.

• 2:19Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 2:19Sam Morril?

But I say retard, and she goes, "That's really messed up."

• 2:23Mark Normand?

  Ah.

• 2:23Sam Morril?

I work with special needs kids. And she goes, she goes, "I, I work with special ed." And I go, "Well, I was in special ed." And she goes-

• 2:30Mark Normand?

  Good save.

• 2:31Sam Morril?

Yeah, and she goes, "Well, I also work with kids with a speech disability." I said, "I had a speech disability."

• 2:35Mark Normand?

  Whoa, it's like your N-word.

• 2:37Sam Morril?

And she just paused and goes, "Well, I guess you could say it then."

• 2:40Mark Normand?

  Ah, right. You won.

• 2:42Sam Morril?

I said, "You know, I kissed a boy in second grade, maybe there's another word I could say."

• 2:47Mark Normand?

  That's how we met.

• 2:50Mark Normand?

Wow, good jock, you never win those, those are unwinnable.

• 2:54Sam Morril?

And then I just kept throwing them in there excessively.

• 2:56Mark Normand?

  Ah, yes.

• 2:57Sam Morril?

  And she started laughing.

• 2:58Mark Normand?

  That's great.

• 2:58Sam Morril?

  I broke her down.

• 3:00Mark Normand?

Now, let me throw this at you and see what sticks. I saw a couple of kids at a, like, an ice cream parlor or pizza shop, and they kept throwing the N-word out. These are black kids, but they were, they were young, and they kept throwing the N-word out. And a lady goes, "Hey, do you mind stop cursing, I'm with my kid."

• 3:16Sam Morril?

  Oh.

• 3:16Mark Normand?

And they were like, "We're saying, we're saying the N-word." And she's like, "That's a curse word." And I was like, "That's a good point, I never thought of it that way."

• 3:24Sam Morril?

  She's a white woman, though.

• 3:25Mark Normand?

She was, with a white kid.

• 3:26Sam Morril?

  That's an interesting-

• 3:27Mark Normand?

But she's kinda right. But I, then you got a white lady telling black people to not say the N- so there's a lot of layers here.

• 3:34Sam Morril?

There are layers, that is a very tricky situation.

• 3:36Speaker 02

But you don't want your kid picking up that word.

• 3:39Sam Morril?

  You really don't.

• 3:40Mark Normand?

Wow. Especially if it's a white kid.

• 3:41Sam Morril?

Yeah. I heard them say it.

• 3:44Mark Normand?

I don't know, I met Kid Rock's kid. But, but yeah, no, you're right, but it's, it is, it is a bad word.

• 3:50Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 3:51Mark Normand?

But you can't tell black people not to say the word, even though, hey, we invented it. There's a lot going on here.

• 3:58Mark Normand?

  I think we invented it.

• 4:00Sam Morril?

  Did we?

• 4:00Mark Normand?

  I assume.

• 4:01Sam Morril?

  We must have.

• 4:02Mark Normand?

  We must have.

• 4:02Speaker 02

I think it comes from the Latin, I'll look it up.

• 4:04Mark Normand?

  The Latin? Latin for what?

• 4:07Sam Morril?

  A lot of black people.

• 4:08Speaker 02

  The word "black" is negro.

• 4:10Mark Normand?

  That's, uh, okay, okay.

• 4:12Sam Morril?

  That's Spanish, too, though.

• 4:13Mark Normand?

  But what about Niger?

• 4:14Speaker 02

  I meant the Latin language.

• 4:15Mark Normand?

I thought it was the African country.

• 4:17Speaker 02

  Niger?

• 4:18Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 4:18Speaker 02

  That's also-

• 4:19Sam Morril?

  Let's be careful here, boy.

• 4:20Mark Normand?

  I know, I know.

• 4:21Sam Morril?

We're in dangerous, we're in dangerous waters here.

• 4:23Mark Normand?

Well, maybe our guest can tell us when he comes in.

• 4:26Speaker 02

I don't know how to type this in.

• 4:28Mark Normand?

  One G.

• 4:29Speaker 02

  Origin of.

• 4:30Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 4:31Sam Morril?

Well, that, no, that is a sticky situation. Can you say it?

• 4:34Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 4:35Sam Morril?

  How old are the kids?

• 4:36Mark Normand?

Ah, thirteen, you know, young, fourteen.

• 4:40Sam Morril?

  Hmm.

• 4:40Mark Normand?

Yeah, so they were, they were a rambunctious bunch. But they were-

• 4:44Sam Morril?

That is a worse word than fuck.

• 4:46Mark Normand?

  Agreed, agreed.

• 4:47Sam Morril?

  Alright, there it is.

• 4:48Mark Normand?

So... Wait a minute, origin lies with the Latin adjective Niger, meaning black. Okay, well, that makes sense.

• 4:55Sam Morril?

Yeah, but it's also bad that you know that. You don't want to be the guy that knows too much about the N-word either, Sal Akus.

• 5:01Mark Normand?

Right. I saw Che years ago on a mic and he goes, "You know why black people get so mad at the N-word? Because we don't even know what it means." And I was like, "That's a great point." Because it just, it's just this evil word, but-

• 5:11Sam Morril?

And then he went up and used it as a punchline.

• 5:13Mark Normand?

He did. Well, that's kind of a callback.

• 5:17Sam Morril?

No, no, but you know what, you know what, they get, they get that, and it's like when a white guy says "motherfucker", they get to say the N-word as a punchline, and it hits harder.

• 5:25Mark Normand?

  It hits.

• 5:26Sam Morril?

  It does.

• 5:27Mark Normand?

And it gets overused a lot, too. There's a lot of black comics who say it for every punchline. You're like, "Well, you're talking about milk."

• 5:32Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 5:32Mark Normand?

You know, at some point, you gotta lose it.

• 5:34Sam Morril?

I go up to him, I say, "Do you mind not cursing? I'm trying to-"

• 5:37Mark Normand?

Yeah, so, it's a tough one. We gotta get Sam Jay in here and, and pick our brain. She likes the word.

• 5:44Sam Morril?

I was at a Knicks game with her once, and, uh, she's just like, this is like a year or two ago, and she's like, "Man, I hate Julius Randall. He fucking sucks. Fuck Julius Randall." And I was like, "Uh, hey, uh, his kid is two seats down."

• 5:56Mark Normand?

  Ohhh.

• 5:59Sam Morril?

  And she was like, "Shit."

• 6:01Mark Normand?

  Ohhh.

• 6:02Sam Morril?

In her defense, she felt bad. She was like, "Ah, goddamn it."

• 6:04Mark Normand?

  Damn.

• 6:05Sam Morril?

But if you're the son of an athlete and you're sitting at the game, you're gonna hear it. You're gonna hear it about your dad.

• 6:10Mark Normand?

  Good point.

• 6:11Speaker 02

Those Knicks seats really seem like a scene.

• 6:13Mark Normand?

  Oh, yeah, always.

• 6:14Sam Morril?

  A scene.

• 6:15Speaker 02

I mean, you're eating Paul Rudd and Sam Jay.

• 6:18Mark Normand?

  I will say-

• 6:19Sam Morril?

Paul Rudd and Sam Jay, the big two.

• 6:24Mark Normand?

That was a great, uh, between two ferns, Paul Rudd was on and, and, uh, Galifianakis goes, "So how's it going pretending you're not a Jew?" Which I love.

• 6:32Sam Morril?

  Wow.

• 6:33Mark Normand?

And he, he broke, he broke him, it was great.

• 6:35Sam Morril?

  Damn, that's a great line.

• 6:36Mark Normand?

Great line, cuz I didn't know till that moment, cuz he's like, you know, fun-loving, handsome, you know.

• 6:43Sam Morril?

Is Rudd his real last name? I'll look it up.

• 6:45Mark Normand?

  Ooh, Ruddstein.

• 6:46Sam Morril?

  Wrazinski.

• 6:47Mark Normand?

  Ruddberg.

• 6:48Sam Morril?

  Ruddberg.

• 6:49Mark Normand?

  Rudd...

• 6:51Mark Normand?

Schwitz? I don't know, good question. He's from Kansas City.

• 6:55Sam Morril?

You been on the road? That's his name.

• 6:56Mark Normand?

  I have, yeah.

• 6:57Sam Morril?

Dude, by the way, just had Joe's in Kansas City, the barbecue.

• 6:59Mark Normand?

  Hmm.

• 7:00Sam Morril?

  Best barbecue I've ever had.

• 7:00Mark Normand?

  Oh, there you go.

• 7:01Sam Morril?

  Been there, the gas station?

• 7:02Mark Normand?

  I think I have, yes.

• 7:03Sam Morril?

  Holy shit.

• 7:04Mark Normand?

  Was there a line?

• 7:06Sam Morril?

We got it, they picked it up for us in the venue. Had a runner. Dude, it was, it was phenomenal.

• 7:12Mark Normand?

Nice, it's, it's pretty great, but you gotta go post-show. Wow, good for him, in the car, car sex is not easy. Not physically and not easy to pull off.

• 7:23Sam Morril?

It was a big car and it like went, the seats went back. He showed a picture of the car. He took a pic.

• 7:28Mark Normand?

That's guy shit right there. Because the first you're gonna wanna know is, "How'd you do it?" And he goes, "I actually, I took photos of the car."

• 7:33Sam Morril?

Yeah, you wanted to retell this story, we need pics.

• 7:35Mark Normand?

Yeah, and you're pulling up the logistics of a Honda Civic or an Odyssey. That's great.

• 7:41Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 7:42Mark Normand?

Wow, good for him, got the runoff. I think that's why a lot of these guys are in these, you know, the roadies for Led Zeppelin must've gotten so much poon just from, you know, being on the bus.

• 7:52Sam Morril?

Remember Tom McCaffrey's joke about, uh, forgot which Behind the Music it was, but one of them where they're like, like, "All these roadies are disgusting" and they would get blown so that women could go back and blow the rock stars? And he goes, "I have a hard enough time getting blown directly." "I can't even imagine proposing that, like, if you wanna blow me, you gotta blow this six, these six ugly guys." And she goes, "Yeah, I wasn't even gonna blow you," and he's like, "All right."

• 8:16Mark Normand?

Remember that Eddie Murphy story where he's walking out of the Apollo, it's the height of Eddie Murphy, he's 20 years old, he's wearing a leather suit, he's got eight guys around him, cameras are going off, this blonde lady runs up and she goes, "Eddie, Eddie, I'm so in love with you," smoking hot, and she goes, "I want you to be the first black guy I kiss." And he goes, "Well, you can't start with me, you gotta start with these ugly motherfuckers out here." Pointing all his goons. Oh, good stuff.

• 8:39Sam Morril?

Damn. You know Forty Eight Hours was on TV the other day? That's just a good movie, dude.

• 8:44Mark Normand?

  Killer movie.

• 8:44Sam Morril?

It's just like, it's darker. Every time I watch it, this is darker than I remember. The opening, you're like, holy shit.

• 8:49Mark Normand?

  The jails part?

• 8:51Sam Morril?

Not just the jail, but like, uh, I mean, just like, the two bad guys are fucked.

• 8:55Mark Normand?

  Oh, yeah.

• 8:56Sam Morril?

  Jonathan Banks, you forgot?

• 8:57Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 8:58Sam Morril?

I forgot, he's in Beverly Hills Cop and Forty Eight.

• 9:00Speaker 02

  Yeah, you're right. Yeah, yeah.

• 9:01Sam Morril?

But, uh, yeah, Better Call Saul, baby.

• 9:03Speaker 02

  Amazing.

• 9:03Sam Morril?

  But, uh, dude, that fucking...

• 9:06Mark Normand?

  It's great. It's like gritty.

• 9:08Sam Morril?

  It's gritty as fuck.

• 9:09Speaker 02

I watched a breakdown of it, and it was really smart, because I was always like, wow, he really treats Eddie Murphy like shit.

• 9:15Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 9:16Speaker 02

  And...

• 9:16Mark Normand?

  Fistfight.

• 9:17Speaker 02

Yes. And someone said, oh, he's like dropping N words, calling him, you know, watermelon, really awful stuff. I'm not happy to repeat, but they said, this is part of...

• 9:27Mark Normand?

  Where'd that origin come from?

• 9:30Speaker 02

So, uh, it's, it's part of the plot that he, he's keeping him down because he's a prisoner. That all changes when he takes the handcuffs off him and is like, let's go get the guy, get these guys. There's no more N word, there's no more back and forth.

• 9:42Mark Normand?

  They're working together.

• 9:43Speaker 02

  Now we're partners.

• 9:44Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 9:44Speaker 02

But he was like, as a cop and as a criminal, this is how you have to treat criminals, keep them down.

• 9:48Sam Morril?

You're legally required to call them N- words.

• 9:50Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 9:52Sam Morril?

  It's in the bylaws, yeah.

• 9:53Mark Normand?

Derek Chauvin's favorite movie, by the way.

• 9:56Sam Morril?

  Dude.

• 9:57Mark Normand?

  The first half.

• 9:59Sam Morril?

Dude, it's a good flick, though. I mean, eighties Eddie Murphy, man. Like, the charisma's off the chart.

• 10:03Mark Normand?

  Oh, yeah.

• 10:04Sam Morril?

Lack of pussy make you brave.

• 10:07Sam Morril?

  So good.

• 10:08Mark Normand?

That's great. Yeah, that movie's amazing. I think that might have been the Buddy Cop original.

• 10:12Sam Morril?

Yeah, it was like, definitely, I mean, because how many black and white movies were there at the time, right?

• 10:17Mark Normand?

And then you had Rush Hour, which was black and Asian.

• 10:19Sam Morril?

  That was a fun one.

• 10:20Mark Normand?

Great movie. A lot of N word in that, too, by the way. He makes him say it.

• 10:23Sam Morril?

  PG-13.

• 10:24Mark Normand?

Wow, it was a better time.

• 10:28Sam Morril?

Money Talks is, it's not a good movie, but Chris Tucker's just fucking on point, dude.

• 10:32Mark Normand?

Yo, we're talking black movies we like.

• 10:37Sam Morril?

Yeah, right here dude, pull up.

• 10:40Mark Normand?

What's up man? Thanks for coming.

• 10:43Sam Morril?

Big Jay Oakerson, new, two CrowdWork specials.

• 10:46Mark Normand?

  Woo!

• 10:46Sam Morril?

They and Them on YouTube now.

• 10:49Speaker 03

Both on YouTube, doing well, thank god.

• 10:51Mark Normand?

Yeah, I know, YouTube's not what it used to be, so good for you.

• 10:53Speaker 03

It's also just the scariest place, because you, one, get to look at all the numbers.

• 10:57Mark Normand?

  Yes.

• 10:57Speaker 03

The beauty of Netflix, you're like, everyone's seeing it, right? It's right there. There must be millions at this point.

• 11:02Mark Normand?

True. And the comments, don't forget the comments, my god.

• 11:06Speaker 03

  Oh yeah.

• 11:06Sam Morril?

And also just like, one misstep with a word, and you're like, are they gonna fucking bury this?

• 11:11Mark Normand?

  Oh yeah.

• 11:12Sam Morril?

Because that happened to List, right? He said, and they just, and Joe's pretty clean.

• 11:16Speaker 03

Was it pretty, in a pretty like benign way too, the way he said it?

• 11:19Mark Normand?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 11:20Speaker 03

It wasn't like a major like, I mean, I know there's only so many benign ways to say

• 11:23Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 11:23Speaker 03

  I think contextually, it wasn't a big deal, I don't think.

• 11:25Mark Normand?

He called Michelle Obama, I mean, what the, no. But yeah, he said it 40 minutes in too, and they still kinda flagged him.

• 11:32Speaker 03

  Jesus.

• 11:33Sam Morril?

  It's brutal.

• 11:34Speaker 03

I did the, uh, I don't know if it was a mistake, because the first time, when the first CrowdWork special came out, somebody on my social team was in the live chat as me.

• 11:44Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 11:45Speaker 03

And they, and I, and I watched for a little bit, like the live chat, and um, I was like, I didn't know who it was, so I'm like texting my management, I'm like, you know, the answer is, you know, trannies, or something, whatever, because people are quizzing him.

• 11:58Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 11:58Speaker 03

And he's not getting it. He's just writing back like, fire emoji, or something.

• 12:02Mark Normand?

  Ahhh.

• 12:04Speaker 03

So I was like, yo, this time I gotta do it. And then like, people still don't believe it's you. So they're quizzing me, and I'm answering, it's moving so fast, and then you're also like, as you're looking, you are seeing the people being like, why am I boring myself with this?

• 12:16Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 12:16Speaker 03

  Oh god.

• 12:17Mark Normand?

God, the agents are the worst.

• 12:19Sam Morril?

I had a, a thing like on Facebook, I had a guy set up for me, so I have like an auto-response to every email or message I get in there.

• 12:26Mark Normand?

  Oh, smart.

• 12:27Sam Morril?

It's not smart, because it would, people would be like, oh, good show tonight, and it'll be like, thank you so much for contacting me, I'll be with you shortly. Every response is like, fuck you, you piece of shit.

• 12:35Mark Normand?

  Oh shit.

• 12:35Sam Morril?

I don't know how to turn it off, though.

• 12:37Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 12:37Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, it's a weird thing.

• 12:39Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 12:40Sam Morril?

  It's like very fake.

• 12:41Speaker 03

Well, they do that to, uh, what's funny is, you see the comedy clubs do that, because if I repost like that- Story or something about me coming to the club.

• 12:49Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 12:50Speaker 03

You get an immediate DM that's like, thanks for inquiring about a.

• 12:53Mark Normand?

  Right, right.

• 12:54Speaker 03

Look forward to our many shows by going to this link.

• 12:56Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 12:57Speaker 03

  Auto response.

• 12:58Mark Normand?

Well, but back to the age, Ari just had that storytelling show.

• 13:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:01Mark Normand?

And he allowed no industry. It was amazing. The green was incredible. Everybody got along. Salkey's wasn't even allowed in there. It was awesome.

• 13:08Speaker 03

  He kept everybody out.

• 13:09Mark Normand?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 13:10Sam Morril?

  What story did he tell?

• 13:11Mark Normand?

I told the story about my black, uh, transvestite nanny.

• 13:15Sam Morril?

  Oh, nice.

• 13:15Mark Normand?

And a hooker I banged in New Orleans as, uh, for my virginity and I combined them.

• 13:20Sam Morril?

  How? Did you do it?

• 13:21Speaker 03

Yeah, I did it last night.

• 13:22Mark Normand?

  Oh, how was it?

• 13:23Speaker 03

It was fun. The show's great. Ari always sets me up weird, though. I went.

• 13:27Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 13:27Speaker 03

He put me last on the first show, last minute, and it was after a 20-minute.

• 13:33Sam Morril?

  Oh, wow.

• 13:34Speaker 03

  Powerhouse extravaganza.

• 13:35Sam Morril?

I remember that bit. That was killer.

• 13:37Mark Normand?

  Yes.

• 13:38Speaker 03

And so like, I did like this whole thing that I was after like just telling a first date story that went bad. Like, sorry.

• 13:44Mark Normand?

  Ah.

• 13:45Speaker 03

Luckily Ari, luckily Ari was dressed like a asshole, so you can make fun of him.

• 13:49Mark Normand?

I did the same thing. I think, I don't know if we're supposed to say who's on it.

• 13:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, I don't know either.

• 13:54Mark Normand?

  Uh, bleep the names.

• 13:55Sam Morril?

I wanted to do it, but he, but he was like, it can't be, it has to be something brand new. And I was like, I have one new story.

• 14:00Mark Normand?

  Oh, that's crazy.

• 14:01Speaker 03

Right, and that's a difficult thing.

• 14:03Sam Morril?

  I can't give it up. I can't.

• 14:04Mark Normand?

  No, don't give it up.

• 14:05Speaker 03

Well, it's the thing when everyone's headlining a bunch and then putting out specials and these like, these higher stake shows too. It's that, a little more coveting of their material.

• 14:12Mark Normand?

Well, the best part was I'm texting everyone, because Ari asked me like three months ago. I'm like, yeah, three months away, get out of my face. And then he's like, I'll see you tonight. And I was like, oh shit. So I texted everybody, not everybody, but I texted a few comics and everyone had not worked on it. So I felt better. No one had even looked at.

• 14:28Sam Morril?

You don't have to say names, but did anyone in your show kind of eat it?

• 14:31Mark Normand?

Ah, the crowd was so good that it went, it went pretty well for everybody.

• 14:35Sam Morril?

  Damn, that's cool.

• 14:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I didn't see anyone in the time I was here do bad at all.

• 14:39Mark Normand?

  It was at The Box.

• 14:41Speaker 03

  Interesting place.

• 14:42Mark Normand?

  Burlesque Club.

• 14:43Speaker 03

Did you ever go there for an actual show?

• 14:44Mark Normand?

  I never did.

• 14:45Speaker 03

I went once. A former NFL player took me and Christine.

• 14:49Mark Normand?

  Shea Shea?

• 14:50Speaker 03

  Uh, no, no. Dustin Keller.

• 14:52Mark Normand?

  Oh, hey, pull him up.

• 14:53Speaker 03

  He was on the Jets.

• 14:55Sam Morril?

Didn't he get shit? No, it was the other guy. Kellen Winslow, I'm thinking of. I'm like, oh, good, you're not with the Raiders.

• 14:59Speaker 03

No, Dustin Keller, playing on the Jets. It was weird. A couple of guys that liked me a lot who would come. It was so weird, these. Like, young Arabic dudes that, you know, dressed like, you know, the flipped up, they had paisleys underneath the Oh, yeah. sleeves and shit. Good dudes, though, but they were coming to Cellar a lot when I was working there all the time. Mm-hmm. And they were, they became fans. And then somehow through, I'm sure, nightclub life and dads having money, this guy, Dustin, was a rookie on the Jets. Uh-huh. And they started hanging out with him and they were like, "Yeah, we're gonna bring him around." And he started coming around and it just became like, I became friendly with him. What was funny about Dustin, and, uh, it's so funny, I'm still friends with him, he lives in Austin, Texas now, he's out of the NFL. Mm-hmm.

• 15:41Speaker 03

And like, he's older and stuff now. Uh, this is, he was in his early twenties and you're seeing the behavior of a brand-new millionaire. Oh, boy. And man, and so I used to think it was so cool that a football player is coming to see me, so I'm like, I'd invite him to anything. Sure. And man, he got, I mean, he would fuck up so left and right, just keep, he'd get hammered. Yeah. He would get hammered and then, um... Fourteen million. In the time he was there, um, I forget who it was, one of the players in the Jets got in trouble for a DUI. Mm. So then they started making it easier for him to party by going, they had access to a, like a accessory or... Oh, yeah. Party bus. Right. At twenty-four-seven, in case they're gonna drink, that will take them out. So it just made them party harder. Yes.

• 16:26Speaker 03

But, uh, dude, one time, he came to the, uh, Eastville Comedy Club. Where Eastville was in the... The old one? Yeah, yeah, in the East Village.

• 16:33Mark Normand?

There were some fun nights at that club.

• 16:35Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah. Really fun nights.

• 16:36Mark Normand?

And hot crowds on weekends, too.

• 16:37Speaker 03

And good lineups, it was like Ted Alexandro, you, you, Soder, Che.

• 16:42Mark Normand?

  It was fun.

• 16:42Speaker 03

It was so funny, the guy who ran that club was the opposite with some clubs, and some clubs are bad at letting in, like, the new talent. Mm-hmm. He was good on getting a new talent, kinda 'cause who he associated with. Yeah. That club. But then, as the young talent, you'd be in there going like... Hey, you should work like Dave Attell and like Kurt Metzger and stuff and they'd be like, and he goes, I don't get him.

• 17:04Mark Normand?

  Ah.

• 17:05Speaker 03

I told him when Ari moved across the street, when he first moved to New York, he moved across the street from me. So I go, Ari Shaffir, uh, just moved to town. Like you're across the street, dude. He's just wanna work out like this. You should like befriend that and like be open to that. He was like, yeah, I watch this stuff. It's not my thing.

• 17:22Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 17:23Speaker 03

Like a dummy. And I was like, yeah, but I mean, even if it's not your thing.

• 17:26Mark Normand?

Ari, I get, but a tell, come on.

• 17:29Speaker 03

So he just didn't get a tell.

• 17:30Mark Normand?

  Wow, that's insane.

• 17:31Sam Morril?

It's weird to admit you don't get a tell too.

• 17:33Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 17:34Sam Morril?

Cause one thing that not getting.

• 17:34Speaker 03

It's probably just playing devil's, honestly, it's probably just like.

• 17:37Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 17:37Speaker 03

Trying to be, just say a words when there's nothing to be said. But, uh, Dustin Keller went there one night. You know, I got him tickets to the show and I was coming down from another show and you get that phone call from the club. You know, it's like, uh, hey, man, your boy's in here kind of being a problem. Now, keep in mind, he's also a monster of a guy.

• 17:55Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 17:56Speaker 03

He's young, he's hammered. His, uh, what's now his wife, but like, you know, his like hot girlfriend is like there.

• 18:03Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 18:03Speaker 03

And like she comes from money. So she's like, you know, and what he did, but they, they went into the club. And they just were hammered and saying stuff like, and they're on my name, but not just on my name. They're also throwing like, uh, you know, like Bonnie McFarlane was on stage apparently and he was like, bring on Jay.

• 18:21Mark Normand?

  Oh, bring on Jay.

• 18:22Speaker 03

Oh, that's brutal. Doing like that shit and I'm not there for this.

• 18:24Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 18:26Speaker 03

Bring on Jay. And when I get there, I, I, I'm staying outside there and he's in the lobby at this point arguing people, him and Lewis almost in a fistfight, which thank God that didn't happen.

• 18:36Mark Normand?

  Oh, my God.

• 18:37Speaker 03

This is also a pre any kind of training, Lewis and not necessarily in shape. You know what I mean?

• 18:42Mark Normand?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 18:43Speaker 03

Against a guy who's like at top physical form.

• 18:45Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 18:46Speaker 03

Uh, athlete. But Lewis was like writing his shit because, uh,

• 18:49Mark Normand?

  Damn.

• 18:50Speaker 03

He was just being, and I'm outside and like, you know, you're watching like four walls falling on you and you can't do anything about it. I'm like, I don't wanna go in there because I wanna be friends with him still. Like I wasn't ready to walk away from that, but I'm like, and I'm just bad at going in there and being like, hey, man, you're fucking up.

• 19:04Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 19:05Speaker 03

  Like you're fucking up.

• 19:06Sam Morril?

I mean, but we've all been there. Like you bring the people who are ruining the show for everybody. I, I remember I brought, and he's a great guy, but I brought the UFC fighter Kelvin Gastelum to the theater one night. He's awesome. I love him, but. He's had a few drinks with me, he's talking a little loud. And Will Sylvan turns to him and goes, "Shut up." And Calvin goes, "I'm gonna fuck this guy up." I was like, "No, no, no, he's cool." You don't want to hear a UFC fighter say, "I'm gonna fuck up your friend."

• 19:31Speaker 03

It's also funny because you're going, "He's cool." But it's funny because you're going like, "He's cool." But really the thing is going like, "You're not being cool." Like, actually, you're fucking up. Yes, yes. But we don't have like, not we, I shouldn't include you, but I just don't have like that immediate. I have to get to like 10 before I like.

• 19:45Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 19:46Speaker 03

Unlog, so I'm like, "How many times?" Because I feel like I'm getting kicked and you're like, "Hey, man, are you not seeing you're fucking my shit up?" Yeah. Like, I have to get there though, because I'm still trying to salvage everything at first, which is, uh, which I fucked up. I said my worst one ever was, uh, like bringing the wrong people. This wasn't celebrities, when I first used to do, uh, Carolines. And I first got to the city, I was looking for, uh, some kind of work. And I'd already done the job like driving strippers and shit to bachelor parties. So I was like, "Oh, maybe I'll be like a door guy, like a shit strip club." Yeah. In like the city. And there was a place called Bear Elegance or something, it was like right across the street on the other side of, uh, Broadway from Carolines.

• 20:28Speaker 03

And I went in there and I was talking and I just think they just go up there bullshitting. It's essentially a whorehouse. Yeah. Whereas like they barely, they just stand there waiting for guys to take them in the back and fuck, really. How'd they look? Um, some were all right. All right. But they, uh.

• 20:42Sam Morril?

  It's in Manhattan.

• 20:42Speaker 03

I, yeah, I think it's done now, it might be closed, but the sign's still up for it. But it was, um, a shithole upstairs. And, uh, but I just bullshitted with the, you know, when you're a young comic especially, you can't wait to walk in and be like, "I'm a comic." Right, right. "I work Carolines over here a lot," and you know, "So I'm becoming friendly with this guy." And like, "Oh, we'd love to come see shows." And the owner, sort of, I'm friendlier with the bartender, but the owner would also be like, yeah. And then he brought the owner a couple of times to some showcases and shows I did at Carolines and were friendly. And then one time I, uh, the guy goes, uh, "Hey," well, I was opening for Brian Regan. Ooh. And he goes, uh, he goes, "Duke, can you get me four tickets?" Which was not easy to do. Sure. And I was like, "Uh, yeah, sure."

• 21:26Speaker 03

Let me see what I can do and I got them four tickets and it was the owner, the bartender and they brought two of their prostitutes.

• 21:32Mark Normand?

  Oh, boy.

• 21:33Speaker 03

Which they brought to showcases before sometimes, the girls. It was kinda neat because you were like, oh, now these girls are seeing me do my.

• 21:38Mark Normand?

Yeah, it's true. I get a free leg.

• 21:40Speaker 03

And now when I pop in for like a drink, you know, at the place across the street, yeah, like those girls would be like, you were so funny and blah blah.

• 21:46Mark Normand?

  Yes, free hooker.

• 21:47Speaker 03

Sure, exactly. And then, um, so I get them four tickets. I didn't know, they put them right in the front.

• 21:55Mark Normand?

  Oh, boy.

• 21:56Speaker 03

  Like dead center.

• 21:57Mark Normand?

Were they hookery? Were they all hoard up?

• 21:59Speaker 03

Yeah. They definitely did not blend into the Brian Regan crowd, but while I'm.

• 22:05Mark Normand?

  The clean comedians crowd.

• 22:06Speaker 03

And of course, you know, and Caroline's used to do a thing, they'd give you a ticket, you'd take it to your town, I don't know what they did at the end, but like, and they'd write like, guest of Big Jay, you know, and, and have it on the board. He never saw that, thank God, but in the middle of Brian Regan's set, I, I'm drawn out to the showroom because I hear him, like, uh, like, hey, I've never seen Brian Regan break like his energy on stage at all to a different thing. I'm sure it's happened, but like, he was like, hey, you're like ruining the show for everybody. It's like you're constantly talking. It's got, and it's such an earnest, like, it's like, if you don't wanna watch the show, it's fine, but you need to stop talking or you gotta go. Like, it's really, and I'm like, holy shit.

• 22:47Mark Normand?

This is Regan, the nicest guy, the sweetest, cleanest comic, and a legend.

• 22:51Speaker 03

And he's killing, this is his last run before, like, you know, theaters.

• 22:55Mark Normand?

This is why his hair turned white.

• 22:58Speaker 03

His hair was not white at this point. Um, so, and then I go back in like the green room and I'm just kinda like stewing, like waiting for this show to be over so I can go out there. And now I am like, I'm like, yo, you guys fucked up.

• 23:10Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 23:11Speaker 03

Like, what are you doing? And I was gonna go give him shit and when I go, when the show, I hear the show ends, I go out to the, you know, the front bar of Caroline's. And I'm waiting, it seems like forever for these guys to come out. And then the two guys come out. Without the girls weirdly, but I'm not even paying attention to that. I just start right away. I'm like, yo, guys. I fucking work here. Like you guys come here, I get your free tickets. You guys, it's like, you know, I'm starting ripping them.

• 23:34Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 23:35Speaker 03

And I would go, and I go, and you're gonna bring these girl, and everyone's gonna talk during the show? And they're already apologetic as I'm talking.

• 23:40Sam Morril?

  Oh, that's good.

• 23:41Speaker 03

They're throwing a lot of apologies. But when I go, uh, and they're just gonna talk during the show? And they were like surprised that that's what I was coming at them about. They go. They go, talk during the show? I go. Yeah, what, I go, oh, you don't know what happened? Apparently. When the show is over. Uh, I didn't know, cause I go run out to the lobby. And why it took so long for them to come out. When the show is over, when everyone's getting up. Some older lady. Next to them went, thanks for ruining the show for me. And the hooker just punched her in the face.

• 24:10Sam Morril?

  Oh, boy.

• 24:12Speaker 03

And I was like, when he tells me, I goes, oh, yeah, no, one of the girls punched a lady in the face like, ah! Like that'd be like, wait, what? Holy shit. And I thank God, uh, the manager at the time.

• 24:23Sam Morril?

  How old?

• 24:23Speaker 03

  Huh?

• 24:24Sam Morril?

  How old?

• 24:25Speaker 03

I don't know. I never even saw the girls again, or.

• 24:28Sam Morril?

  Wow.

• 24:29Speaker 03

  All I know is.

• 24:29Sam Morril?

You go to Brian Regan and you get punched by a hooker? That is not on your bingo card. No, not at all. Holy shit.

• 24:37Speaker 03

Yeah. And then, uh. It was the wild, and I say, I'll always give him credit, man, the, the manager that I think. Ended up getting fired from there for like embezzling or something.

• 24:46Sam Morril?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 24:47Speaker 03

  Um.

• 24:48Sam Morril?

Oh, I, but I always really liked him, actually. Great guy.

• 24:50Speaker 03

Great guy. And I, he was the guy that said to me, he goes. Uh, I won't, I'll make sure that doesn't get back to Brian and that was your guess. And he goes, and, uh, he goes, let's not have that happen again. I was like. Dude, that's one of those like, and you're so young in comedy.

• 25:01Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 25:01Speaker 03

That means everything. I'm like, I fucking thought I ruined it with the club.

• 25:04Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 25:05Speaker 03

Brian Regan. They already made a thing, you know, really pushing to me. Cause I was. Young enough in comedy that I was like, oh, I'll do it no matter. I was like, I want to open for Regan. They're, you gotta be squeaky clean. And I'm like, I'll sort it out.

• 25:14Sam Morril?

  Wow.

• 25:16Speaker 03

So then I'm up there handcuffed on stage already and it's such a pain. What was funny was that guy goes. And I was young enough, this was a, enough of a makeup. He goes, swing by the club at one point, man. We'll take care of you. One day essentially saying, free hooker.

• 25:29Sam Morril?

  Yes.

• 25:30Speaker 03

I learned such a funny thing. I, I went there one day.

• 25:35Speaker 03

I was in a scene, a commercial audition or something, and I was like, oh, I'll swing by. The guy said he owes me one.

• 25:39Mark Normand?

How do you cash that in?

• 25:40Speaker 03

Well, I went in and he was like, uh, I was like, hey, you told me to swing by. You said you ought to take care of me one day. He was like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And he goes, uh, you know, there wasn't a bunch of girls available. He goes, so I was a pretty girl. And he goes, uh.

• 25:52Mark Normand?

  Precious is available.

• 25:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 25:54Mark Normand?

It's gonna give you the B squad.

• 25:56Speaker 03

He, he tells her, he goes, he goes, hey, go take care of my boy here. He goes, I'll, I'll make sure, I'll square up with you later. And she goes, okay. And she goes in the back. And we go in the back and she's, it's so awkward.

• 26:08Mark Normand?

  Yeah, of course.

• 26:09Speaker 03

It's like midday. Everything was weird about it, but she was hot and I was a young, fat, horny guy.

• 26:14Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 26:14Speaker 03

And I was like, and she blew me. And I'm broke. And so when, uh, when she was done, uh, blowing me, you know, she didn't know what to do. So like, I pulled out, I had like 30 bucks, maybe.

• 26:26Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 26:27Speaker 03

And I go, uh, and I gave her the 30 bucks. And she was like, what's this? And I was like, oh, it's just. And she goes, 30 bucks? I don't suck dick for 30 bucks. You think I'm gonna come back here and get on my knees and suck dick for 30 bucks? And I was like, no, I thought John said it was taken. And she goes, oh, right, right. She goes, so did you enjoy that, baby? Like the immediate turn, I was like, ew, you can't do that now.

• 26:51Mark Normand?

  Holy moly.

• 26:52Speaker 03

What do you think I am, some kind of prostitute motherfucker? Sorry.

• 26:56Speaker 03

I meant, did you enjoy that blowjob?

• 26:59Mark Normand?

Damn, we gotta get her on the show. I wonder who she blew. Caroline said we had some nights there. It's just RIP.

• 27:06Sam Morril?

The nights there, I mean, like.

• 27:07Speaker 03

First club I got into ever.

• 27:08Sam Morril?

They, they were always, cause I, I came up a lot. I mean, you remember like the comic strip days and like, they kinda didn't show me or Mackie Love until I went to other places.

• 27:17Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 27:17Sam Morril?

And, and the strip, uh, was cool, but Caroline's was really good to us when we were young.

• 27:22Mark Normand?

Oh, we got to open for all the, I opened for JB Smooth once. It was right when he got on Curb. The whole crowd was just yarmulkes. It was all young Jewish people. And JB Smooth is the filthiest comic on the planet.

• 27:33Speaker 03

It also comes from like his delivery and everything comes from like, he was, when I started comedy, JB Smooth was. The guy that everyone talks about.

• 27:40Mark Normand?

  Oh, really?

• 27:41Speaker 03

Every car, in the black circuit, he was like.

• 27:43Sam Morril?

  He was a murderer.

• 27:44Mark Normand?

  He's hilarious.

• 27:45Speaker 03

Every, almost, a lot of the things you see that are hacking the black circuit now are just doing JB Smooth. DJ, put it on again.

• 27:51Mark Normand?

  Really?

• 27:51Speaker 03

DJ hit that, you could do anything to this song over.

• 27:53Mark Normand?

Right, right. Well, he would murder, but all the, you would just see people get up and leave. Cause it was like families of Jewish people and they were like, we love Curb. And he even came out to, ba, ba da, ba da, ba da. So they were like, here we go, we're gonna see Leon. And he's like, this is how I suck pussy, you know, and all that. And they just walk away by the end of the show.

• 28:10Sam Morril?

By the way, it's kinda his character on Curb anyway.

• 28:11Mark Normand?

  I know, but.

• 28:12Speaker 03

No, it is, but the thing.

• 28:13Mark Normand?

  It's filthy.

• 28:14Speaker 03

Well, I think, I think he's found a way over the year. I think his audience became so Curb Your Enthusiasm audience. That he's learned how to like do his thing in the.

• 28:22Mark Normand?

  Oh, good.

• 28:23Speaker 03

  Parameters.

• 28:23Sam Morril?

Dude, I saw the Larry David Show, I was in Austin, I just went to Larry David Show. And they do Q and A at the end. And like, dude, JB fucking murders.

• 28:31Mark Normand?

  Oh, he was there?

• 28:32Sam Morril?

Yeah, JB and Suzie were there. And they just, they're comics, you know? So they just know how to snipe and know how to like, when someone says something stupid, just slam them. I mean.

• 28:40Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 28:41Sam Morril?

  Yeah, they crush.

• 28:42Mark Normand?

  That's great.

• 28:43Speaker 03

Yeah, he was a, JB Smooth was a monster.

• 28:45Mark Normand?

  I saw it with Garland.

• 28:49Speaker 03

Caroline's was big. I got into Caroline's by winning a contest sponsored by Salem cigarettes.

• 28:56Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 28:57Speaker 03

That was like all arts. It was, uh, music, fashion, actual art and comedy. And, uh, I competed in the New York, like, and then they had the big finals thing and Caroline Hirsch was the judge. And I won the comedy part. And so the thing was to open for one night for Kim Cole's.

• 29:18Mark Normand?

  Whoa, living single.

• 29:20Speaker 03

And I, and I was also attached enough still to the black circuit that if it was a black crowd, I was like, alright, I could do well here.

• 29:25Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 29:25Speaker 03

Like, probably pandery a bit, but like, I knew how to do it.

• 29:29Mark Normand?

But you started in the black room.

• 29:30Speaker 03

Sure. Yeah, but it was definitely, it was like, I was unwittingly pandering.

• 29:35Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 29:35Speaker 03

Does that make sense? Like, I grew up in a pretty black, like, heavy culture anyway, so, and I never did the thing. I never like, one thing I never did was, uh, talk the talk.

• 29:46Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 29:46Speaker 03

I was never saying things on stage like, how I didn't talk at all. I didn't put an affect on my voice or anything. But I mean, I definitely, my material was like, you know, you can't have no superheroes in the hood.

• 29:56Speaker 03

I definitely didn't know all that shit.

• 29:57Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 29:57Speaker 03

You're going to a black high school.

• 29:59Sam Morril?

But I remember seeing you, like, you walked the line, because I remember seeing you when I was in high school open for a tell. At Carol.

• 30:04Mark Normand?

  Whoa.

• 30:04Sam Morril?

This is fucking cool, because you had great shit then even.

• 30:06Speaker 03

  Oh, thanks.

• 30:07Sam Morril?

But then, uh, but then I saw you on fucking Diddy's Bad Boys.

• 30:11Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 30:11Mark Normand?

  Oh, that's right.

• 30:12Sam Morril?

And you walked the line, you were being you, but I still remember the West Side Story joke, because you were like, I love, what I loved about it was like, you kind of were like, this is who I am.

• 30:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:21Sam Morril?

I'm not fucking lying. My, my parents and I watched like musicals together, you know?

• 30:25Speaker 03

Well, I learned, that was a fun thing to get through in the black circuit, was to kind of learn, it's so like, uh, it sounds so shitty to say, but it's like, uh, like Snake rules. Like, if you go up there confident, it, it means you're already 50% of the way there.

• 30:41Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 30:41Speaker 03

Like, they want to feel like, and black comics will tell you this, they paid their money, and they want to be entertained, and, and if you go up there feeling, if they see on you that you're like, boy, I sure hope you guys like this, they're like, nah, fuck that. Like, I gotta wake up for work tomorrow, and this was a $70 ticket for after-party and whatever. Uh, like, you know, it's like, be funny, and they turn, if you go up there, and you can, like, weather, like, the initial shit.

• 31:05Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 31:06Speaker 03

Like, it's, if you be yourself, you could be yourself, you know what I mean? It doesn't really matter.

• 31:09Mark Normand?

It's Colosseum, it's like, uh, killer, you know, the thumbs up, thumbs down.

• 31:13Speaker 03

Yeah, the way it looks too, I know, with, uh, who's it? Uh, Dougie Fresh just sitting up there.

• 31:19Mark Normand?

Yes, yes, Exed Gladiator. They love you, they hate you.

• 31:23Sam Morril?

The beard is way better now.

• 31:25Speaker 03

Oh, thank you. So is the fucking neck and face.

• 31:28Mark Normand?

  What year, you think?

• 31:30Speaker 03

Um, my daughter was a baby, so like, 22 years ago.

• 31:34Mark Normand?

Oh, wow. Threw the Sean John on, that was fun.

• 31:38Speaker 03

  Oh, that's, they made me.

• 31:39Mark Normand?

  Oh, really?

• 31:40Sam Morril?

  Oh, for Diddy?

• 31:41Speaker 03

  I gave.

• 31:41Sam Morril?

  Damn, I forgot, that's him.

• 31:42Speaker 03

The whole thing was a marketing for his clothes. They,

• 31:44Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 31:45Speaker 03

I wish they kept the footage. There was footage of him rubbing my shoulders in the back, and then I grabbed, and then I grabbed his hand and said, I want to share everything with you.

• 31:51Sam Morril?

  Wow.

• 31:52Speaker 03

And then he got weird, and then they announced my name.

• 31:54Mark Normand?

  Whoa.

• 31:55Sam Morril?

I wonder if he can, like, rape people, but the second you make a gay joke, he's like, that's not cool.

• 31:58Speaker 03

Yeah, he goes, whoa, man, a little public for that. Little public. You guys heard the new Kanye, gave my cousin head a song, right?

• 32:05Mark Normand?

  Yes, yes.

• 32:06Speaker 03

  I haven't.

• 32:06Mark Normand?

  Fifteen year old cousin, right?

• 32:08Speaker 03

Oh, I did hear this. I know there's a song. There's a song where he describes it all.

• 32:12Mark Normand?

He's gone, I feel like he's appropriating white culture, because he did a Klan Hood, Swastika, and now incest? That's our shit.

• 32:18Speaker 03

This guy's taking all our shit.

• 32:19Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 32:21Speaker 03

Was, what else, was Diddy nice to you, or what was his? That was the only interaction I had with him at all. He wasn't involved much at all. When I did Showtime's White Boys in the Hood.

• 32:29Mark Normand?

  Pull it up.

• 32:30Speaker 03

That was the funniest thing because, uh, that was run by, see, this was done, this was HBO. It was, uh, P. Diddy, so it was pretty professional, except the fact that he tricked everyone in the signing contracts.

• 32:43Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 32:44Speaker 03

Made him a manager of yours for three years.

• 32:45Sam Morril?

  What? Diddy was your manager?

• 32:48Speaker 03

Well, it's more complicated than that. That would be great, if Diddy was my manager.

• 32:53Mark Normand?

  He's got pull.

• 32:53Speaker 03

What it is, is for the next three years after you did the show, in your contract, if anything pops for you at all. If the sitcom you wrote got picked up, or the whatever thing happened, they will attribute that is probably because of P. Diddy's Bad Boys of Comedy, and he will get a 10% cut.

• 33:08Mark Normand?

  Of course.

• 33:08Speaker 03

The next three years of anything significant you do.

• 33:10Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 33:11Speaker 03

That's what it was. So yeah, it'd be great if he gave it to you. White Boys in the Hood was funny, because, um...

• 33:17Mark Normand?

  What was it, DiCaprio?

• 33:17Speaker 03

They did all, all black audience, no, this was like John Jay. Wasn't Mike Stefano on that too? Yeah, absolutely.

• 33:21Mark Normand?

  And Joey Gay.

• 33:23Speaker 03

Yep, Joey Gay for sure. Voss, I'm sure, did it, and then Kurt.

• 33:26Mark Normand?

  Metzger.

• 33:27Speaker 03

Uh, and then the other, you know, the people you know, Jason Andors, Ray LaPaix, remember Jason Andors?

• 33:32Mark Normand?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:32Speaker 03

You know what he's doing now? What?

• 33:33Mark Normand?

  Heroin?

• 33:34Speaker 03

Full Spanish comedy in Puerto Rico. He moved to Puerto Rico.

• 33:39Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 33:39Speaker 03

And his name's like, you know, his name's like, you know, Blanco en Fuego, or something, it's ridiculous.

• 33:44Mark Normand?

  Good for him.

• 33:44Speaker 03

And that's him right there, he did the intro for the show.

• 33:46Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 33:49Mark Normand?

I mean, this was a big show, I remember this show.

• 33:51Speaker 03

Well, what was really, uh, funny about it was Talent was the host, remember Talent? Sure.

• 33:55Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 33:56Speaker 03

Talent Harris hosted and treated it, he didn't understand that like television is contractual and legality's involved, so, I think it was Mike Vecchione.

• 34:06Speaker 03

I don't know if you guys remember Rocco at all.

• 34:08Mark Normand?

  Mm-mm.

• 34:08Speaker 03

Rocco Stow. And, um, like two other poor, sad, white, can-work-a-black-crowd, uh, comedians.

• 34:17Mark Normand?

  Oh, Mark DeMayo.

• 34:18Speaker 03

Showed, showed up, uh, for the day because talent was telling people when he would get drunk during the week. He's like, "Yo, come through, I'll get you on."

• 34:25Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 34:26Speaker 03

It's like, it's telling, and you see the producers over there while he's just drinking Heineken. He'd be like, "You can't," he's like, "Come on, we can get my man on." He's like, "There's a whole process of the outing and screening the set." I'll throw you up. He's not throwing you up, but they kept telling him, it's like, just all the names of the black clubs. Like, "This isn't Nakasaki, fucking Freeport, Long Island, dude."

• 34:44Mark Normand?

• 37:09Mark Normand?

Yee-haw. You know the Joey Gay story? Pull up Joey Gay if you can. He was like, that guy was, he would murder.

• 37:15Sam Morril?

  Murder.

• 37:15Mark Normand?

  Joey Gay was so funny.

• 37:16Speaker 03

I know. And then he became like Pete Davidson's like phone holder or something.

• 37:21Mark Normand?

  Oh, is that right?

• 37:23Speaker 03

Yeah, when I, when Pete was first dating Ariana Grande.

• 37:27Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 37:28Speaker 03

He invited me and Christine to come over to their place. And we went there and me and Christine felt so out of whack, like old people walking around, these like young kids. And then you went in the, and then he goes, oh, come in the bedroom. He was hanging out in the bedroom. And there was a guy tattooing a bunch of their like 23-year-old friends or whatever, 22-year-old friends.

• 37:46Mark Normand?

  Mm-hmm.

• 37:47Speaker 03

And Ariana Grande is there. And I'm, you know, starstruck enough, you know what I mean?

• 37:51Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 37:51Speaker 03

  This is fucking wacky.

• 37:52Mark Normand?

  She's huge.

• 37:53Speaker 03

You know what I mean? Even Pete at this point is starting to have that fear where you're just kind of like, shit.

• 37:57Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 37:57Speaker 03

Pete would probably be done calling me at this point.

• 37:59Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 37:59Speaker 03

And, uh, and then just look, you know, looking around that room and you just see in a corner, it's like 50-year-old something Joey Gay's like. Hey.

• 38:09Mark Normand?

Well, the guy kills, but he, he got, uh, white boys in the hood and he was like, oh my God, he got it off some show he killed. So some guy comes up to him and he goes, you're on, baby. Two months this date, coming to this theater at this time. And he was like, I'm in. Calls everybody, knows his mom, his friends. He shows up that day to do like makeup and hair and they're like, oh, you're not on the list. And he's like, I'm on the show. And they're like, you're not, you're not going on. We'd have never heard of you. No one mentioned you.

• 38:36Sam Morril?

  Check under Joey.

• 38:39Mark Normand?

Um, that was his theater name.

• 38:43Mark Normand?

But yeah, so he was like, I'm on the show. The guy booked me, Greg or whatever. And they're like, oh, we talked to Greg on the headset. He doesn't know who you are. He's like, he fucking booked me. What the hell? So Joey's like, fuck this. I'm doing the show. And they're like, you're not doing the show. So they kind of like get security to push him out of there. He sneaks to the back of the, the theater, pretends he's like a janitor, gets in the door. And he just goes into hair and makeup and just sits there like, oh, I'm third on the show. He kind of like avoids everybody, hides in a broom closet. And then he goes up to the host while some other comic's on. He's like, I'm next. I'm Joey Gay. And the guy goes, oh, okay. And they bring him out and he does it and he kills.

• 39:17Speaker 03

  Jesus.

• 39:18Sam Morril?

Luckily it was talent who would throw anyone out.

• 39:20Mark Normand?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 39:21Speaker 03

The first gathering of the Juggalos I ever did before the, there was crossover audience. So it's a little nice. I've done it. I did it last year. It was great because of the crossover audience. But no one knew we were at first. And it was a year that, I mean, that's the same year DeRosa told the story on his half hour special by getting booed by them. They, the night I did it, they hated Louis, right into hating Vecchione, right into hating me.

• 39:45Mark Normand?

  Damn.

• 39:46Sam Morril?

How do you get booked on this type of gig?

• 39:49Speaker 03

Back then, I forget who it was. It's just like when they get involved, they go, we want comedy. They go to a booker.

• 39:54Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 39:54Speaker 03

So that whoever that book, I forget. It was like a comic.

• 39:56Sam Morril?

But DeRosa had already bombed this.

• 39:59Speaker 03

He may have done it the next night. It was like a few nights in a row. It was the first gathering of jugglers that had comedy, I think. But at least the first one I did.

• 40:05Mark Normand?

  That's a scary gig.

• 40:06Speaker 03

And it was a scary. Now it's like so pleasant.

• 40:09Mark Normand?

  Really? Well, they're older.

• 40:11Speaker 03

They're older one for sure, but they're also like, we just have a crazy crossover audience. So when we were walking around that, we have to like have a cart to go around or else you'll be like mobbed, like it's, which is great.

• 40:22Mark Normand?

  That's cool.

• 40:22Speaker 03

It's great for the comedy show. They come and like they're quiet and they listen to the show. Midnight after they just watched, they're all covered in soda and shit, but they

• 40:29Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 40:30Speaker 03

They come enjoy, but they, that first time they hated us and notoriously that weekend, Joey Gay, fucking murder. He just, he plowed through, man. So it's like, one of those, you know, he started off in Staten Island shit rooms.

• 40:40Mark Normand?

  Exactly.

• 40:40Speaker 03

And he never really graduated to like headlining clubs on the road. So it's like he's, those guys are coming to become scrappy. And situations better because you're like, you know, how many times on the road? If I went now, if you were like, you have to do an hour to an audience that's against you, I'd be like, fuck, you could do it.

• 40:56Mark Normand?

  Of course, of course.

• 40:56Speaker 03

You do the time, but you're like, I don't know if I'll turn them around. You know what I mean? If like they're just coming in, they're gonna hate me.

• 41:02Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 41:03Speaker 03

It's like, you know, a very, you know, I remember feeling that feeling at the time where I was kind of like, any show I do, I can like do fine.

• 41:11Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 41:11Speaker 03

At that point. And then I went to like with Adrian Appalucci, we like co-headlined a, like a woman's college or something. And I was just like, from the first sentence, you're like,

• 41:20Mark Normand?

  And I'm fucked.

• 41:20Speaker 03

You can't even rope them back in.

• 41:22Mark Normand?

  No.

• 41:22Sam Morril?

  They don't want Adrian either.

• 41:24Speaker 03

They did not. No, they did not like yours. But I think they, she was a pleasant, like they were like, oh, thank God.

• 41:29Mark Normand?

  Right, right.

• 41:30Speaker 03

Finally gonna talk to. And then, yeah, they, I don't think they liked her stuff either.

• 41:32Mark Normand?

  Well, same body.

• 41:33Speaker 03

  Too dark.

• 41:35Mark Normand?

But Joey Gay used to walk out. This is how good Joey Gay was. I, I opened for him in Looney Bin in Staten Island. Remember that room?

• 41:40Sam Morril?

  Yeah, of course.

• 41:41Mark Normand?

Took the ferry out there. I met Pete Davidson. He was 14. It was crazy, but it was all mob run. So I went up and I ate shit. And then Joey Gay's like, don't worry, I'll get him. And he walked on stage and he goes, sweet Caroline. And the whole crowd went bop, bop, bop. And he goes, and that's how you find white people in the woods. And that murdered. And then he was set for an hour.

• 42:00Sam Morril?

That's a great opener. Dude, I remember watching him at CB's. I mean,

• 42:03Mark Normand?

  Yes.

• 42:04Sam Morril?

Think about the bombs we took at CB's. I mean, I had great nights there too.

• 42:07Mark Normand?

  Sure.

• 42:08Sam Morril?

But I still remember Wayne Raider's abuse of us. Like,

• 42:11Mark Normand?

  Yeah, oh yeah.

• 42:12Sam Morril?

Mark and I in the back of the room, just like whispering and he'd be like, shut the Fuck up. And we'd be like, ah, I'm like, by the way, that was louder than the whisper.

• 42:18Mark Normand?

  Right, right.

• 42:19Sam Morril?

And we're like, ah, and then he'd be like, I'm so sorry, guys. I got my temper. Shots, shots. And we just started drinking. We're like, this is such a toxic environment.

• 42:25Mark Normand?

But we got the free meal, too, and that meal was amazing for a poor comic.

• 42:28Sam Morril?

  Chicken Milanese is lovely, yeah.

• 42:31Speaker 03

Oh, the whole thing, yeah. Their tuna tartare was fantastic, dude.

• 42:34Mark Normand?

  I got thrown, sorry.

• 42:35Sam Morril?

  So, no.

• 42:35Mark Normand?

I got thrown out of there. Now, tell me what you think about this. You get a free meal every show.

• 42:40Sam Morril?

  Mm-hmm.

• 42:40Mark Normand?

So I did a show, but I had already eaten. So I was like, I'm gonna save my free meal. I went back the next night, when I wasn't on the show, and I was like, hey, I wanna get my meal. And the guy was like, you're not on tonight. And I was like, yeah, but I did a show last night and I didn't eat. And he's like, well, you can't do that. I'm like, well, it's, I get a meal. What's the difference?

• 42:57Sam Morril?

This is the most Norman should have.

• 42:58Mark Normand?

What's the difference between a meal tonight and the night tomorrow? So he wouldn't let me eat there.

• 43:01Speaker 03

  Technically above board.

• 43:03Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 43:03Speaker 03

  Your argument is sound.

• 43:04Mark Normand?

  Thank you.

• 43:05Speaker 03

Without a doubt. But it's more like they should have just given you the meal and been like this, like, okay.

• 43:10Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 43:12Speaker 03

Like, I wouldn't have a problem if you were like, if you just said they gave you the meal and they were like, I guess.

• 43:15Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 43:16Mark Normand?

If you do the gig, you're down a meal. I did the gig, I never got the meal. The next night, you're still down one meal. I feel like it's, it's all cut and dry.

• 43:23Sam Morril?

  Logically, it is sound.

• 43:24Mark Normand?

  Okay, thank you.

• 43:25Speaker 03

  Well, the problem is-

• 43:26Mark Normand?

  Never work there again.

• 43:28Speaker 03

Wayne was great at like, uh, like buttered up the comics in the good times with like stuff. And then if you come to expect it, it was kinda like that was like whipped back at you pretty hard.

• 43:37Sam Morril?

  Oh, yeah.

• 43:38Speaker 03

You know what I mean? Like, well, you come here and you, and you eat a meal every night. You're like, I thought that was the deal.

• 43:43Mark Normand?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 43:44Speaker 03

Why are you yelling at me for the deal?

• 43:45Mark Normand?

That's when you knew he was gay. Cause he got like catty and weird and you're like, oh, I forgot you're gay. He would get your cookout. We'd go to your barbecue and I'd see Wayne right there. It was the first time he was like a-

• 43:54Speaker 03

It was, the barbecue was at his, that was always his place.

• 43:57Mark Normand?

I thought that was your place.

• 43:58Speaker 03

  No, no, no.

• 43:58Mark Normand?

Oh, I was like, you're doing pretty good.

• 44:00Speaker 03

No, no, no. That was Wayne's, uh, Wayne's apartment building.

• 44:03Mark Normand?

  In the Village, East Village.

• 44:04Speaker 03

In the courtyard. Yeah, I lived a few blocks away. Um, but he had that courtyard and then we can go on the roof and do fireworks. So it was a great place. It was, uh, yeah, we always have a time, it's always funny, it ends up stoking up like, uh, his anger in some way, cause he listens to all of this.

• 44:18Mark Normand?

  Oh, we love you, Wayne.

• 44:20Speaker 03

  Uh, Wayne, oh, every-

• 44:22Sam Morril?

Wayne, thanks for the $10 spot pay. I appreciate it.

• 44:25Mark Normand?

  And the meal.

• 44:25Speaker 03

Every minute of all of it. But, um, but that's, uh-

• 44:29Sam Morril?

He was entertaining. I did enjoy it.

• 44:30Speaker 03

Listen, we, but it was funny, like a year or two back. Me, Dave and Lewis did an episode of Legion of Skanks called A Walk Down Memory Wayne. Ah. Because we ended up, I think we were talking about something ridiculous he did. But then it was like, we did have a genuine, like, hour conversation about like, because there is, like, for all the ridiculous Waynes being Wayne stories. There is, I mean, he was managing me, which even if it's ridiculous in its own right, at the time I got a nasty show in Montreal, which was a big deal in the gala. Yep.

• 45:04Speaker 03

Um, maybe my half hour, like, you know, he was like, he was like around for like a couple of the big, we went to Montreal, uh, together and stuff and like, great stories and stuff. He hands you a $10 bill for your half hour special? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Great job kiddo. And I mean, like, great hangs, his shit talk was top notch. Like, I was, I was, I was very inner circle. He was fun. He was a fun head. But he wasn't abusive. He was funny as hell. No, absolutely. Very, very funny if it wasn't happening to you. But I mean, like, you know, I'm right there watching. I remember having DeRosa one time. I was like, he likes to bill, he likes to break down, he's a Marines dude. He breaks you down and build you up. Yes. But he wants to kind of control that narrative. Right. And I remember DeRosa was my roommate, still pretty new in New York.

• 45:47Speaker 03

And Wayne was running the Boston Comedy Club and it was like a New Year's Eve and it was like, put Joey on, you know, for whatever, give him a couple bucks and just give him a spot, you know? He's like, you know, and then he's like, yeah, for sure. And then, I mean, morning of, it was like, I can't do it, pal. I'm too slammed with blah blah. Yeah. But he calls, it's like, really like harsh, because he'll give you like the, like, listen, I gotta cut somebody and it's gonna be you. Ah. You know, to make you feel shitty about it. Yeah, yeah. And then Joe went in his room and he was just like, and he came out at one point, he goes, I'm gonna take the bus down to, uh, Phil, you know, Philly or Pennsylvania. He's like, go hang out with my friends for New Year's Eve. I'm not doing the show. And I was just like, I knew Wayne at this point. I'm like, what, Joe?

• 46:28Speaker 03

If you wanna go party, like, go party. If you do wanna do spots tonight, I'm telling you, he's going to call back and, because now he wants to be the hero. Yeah, yeah. He wants to break you down so hard. He says like abusive in that way. Yeah, manipulative. He wants to break you down. And be like, you know, and then you go, when we pitched a show one time, the way you would call back and be like, Comedy Central hated it. They said it's just like this and they whatever, uh, you know, it's all just negatives. And I was so emotional at the time and I'm like texting or, you know, messaging, emailing the Comedy Central people. I'm like, you know, sorry you didn't like it. Right, right. And then the guy's writing back, he's like, no, I said that I thought it was very, very funny. He's like, I just said that we have, like, we said it's like,

• 47:11Speaker 03

we have Workaholics, which is a three buddy comedy thing that you kind of wrote here. So it's like, but you should just keep pitching it. It's like, it's very funny. Okay. And I was like, that's not the way it was conveyed.

• 47:21Speaker 03

Well, you're. And by the way, maybe the way that, maybe it's not the way it was conveyed to. Sure, that's true too. Who knows the reality of the situation, but it's just like.

• 47:28Sam Morril?

He was a great character, though.

• 47:29Speaker 03

  Yes, 100%.

• 47:31Sam Morril?

  He was a funny, like.

• 47:32Speaker 03

Absolute, you need those. Listen, Craig Glazer, uh, do you remember that was Kansas City's Stanford?

• 47:38Sam Morril?

I never worked, I know, I know the name.

• 47:39Speaker 03

I heard, I heard the stories. But, but these, these characters like this. Vinnie Brand. I never got, one time I saw the old, uh, SideSplitters guy, Bobby Jewell. Oh, he's got stories.

• 47:50Sam Morril?

I still get voicemails from Bobby.

• 47:51Speaker 03

That guy. Yeah, I heard it. It's one of the guys, I never got to.

• 47:54Sam Morril?

You fucking, you Jew liberal queer. Like.

• 47:58Speaker 03

  Playfully?

• 47:58Sam Morril?

  Dude, oh, yeah.

• 47:59Speaker 03

Oh, okay. I was, I thought he was just going angry.

• 48:02Sam Morril?

No, but a little bit of both.

• 48:03Speaker 03

  Pinky pink toupee.

• 48:04Sam Morril?

I mean, he liked me. He was like, but I remember I had Dina, and Dina Hashem opening for me.

• 48:09Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 48:10Sam Morril?

And he was like, let me, let me, uh, let me cook you guys both dinner. And I was like, oh, thanks. Yeah, that's great. So we're like, before the show, it's like, nice big steak dinner. He's pouring us wine, all these nice sides. He's like, being charming. He's showing all this like baseball memorabilia. And I was like, wow, what a, and Dina's like, wow, he's so nice. And then of course he shows up pissed drunk to the club at like 10:00 PM.

• 48:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:32Sam Morril?

And he's like, you fucking piece of shit. I cooked dinner for you. You offered. You invited us over.

• 48:38Speaker 03

  Wow, yeah.

• 48:39Sam Morril?

You piece of shit. He was so funny, though.

• 48:41Speaker 03

He was hilarious. I don't want to say, uh, the club, but, uh, there's a guy, when people get like, they try to be too comfortable with you, almost based on what they think your personality is. Yeah. Comedy or whatever. But there was one club, I remember the guy kept telling me, uh, You know, they have, we have food at the club, but like, you know, in between, we could order you some, like the food in this town. It's like, you're doing that for me somehow, but it's also like, all it's really doing is making me on, I'm like, we don't know each other.

• 49:06Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 49:06Sam Morril?

Stop talking like Pacino in Glengarry.

• 49:09Speaker 03

Never, never offended by like, the words don't give a fuck about, say whatever you want, but it's like, when you don't know me at all, and you're just like, okay.

• 49:17Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 49:18Speaker 03

It's like, it's like, don't put on a show for me, that's a weird thing. Like, you're not even making a joke, really. It's like, you're trying to, you're, you're putting it out there, it's like, this is just how I talk, dude, I don't give a shit. It's like, it's not.

• 49:28Mark Normand?

  No, no.

• 49:29Speaker 03

You're, you're playing some character up, sort of.

• 49:31Mark Normand?

And then you think I'm that guy.

• 49:32Sam Morril?

  Bobby did talk like that.

• 49:34Mark Normand?

  That's true, that's true.

• 49:35Sam Morril?

I remember, I probably, I've told this before, but my favorite one was, he was, there's this comic, Rolos Sanchez, who's so funny, and he was a murderer, and he was opening the shows, and he was like,

• 49:43Mark Normand?

  Oh, he is good.

• 49:44Sam Morril?

  Really funny.

• 49:45Mark Normand?

  Super funny.

• 49:45Sam Morril?

Things in San Antonio right now, but he's like, ex-fucking, you know, um, military, served in Iraq, fought, saw people die, and, uh, Bobby's just talking shit to him at the bar, and Rolos drank with me, and he's just like, you fucking, you Indian? You fucking, he was, he was, and he's like, you know, I'm like, Bobby's Mexican, he goes, what fucking tribe are you from, Rolos? And Rolos goes, airborne infantry, what tribe are you in? And Bobby just goes, well played.

• 50:14Sam Morril?

I was like, alright, he taking L occasionally.

• 50:16Speaker 03

  Well played is funny.

• 50:17Sam Morril?

  Bobby was funny as hell.

• 50:19Mark Normand?

  He's funny.

• 50:21Speaker 03

We were, the Craig Glazer guy, I had so many dealings with him, because he would pick you up in a Lotus, a fucking two-seater, tiny little car, like, uh, like you're a slut, and then drive you to morning radio, and then do all the morning radio with you.

• 50:35Mark Normand?

  Oh, geez.

• 50:36Speaker 03

And everybody hated him. And every woman in every building, he would harass and make uncomfortable.

• 50:40Mark Normand?

What club was this, he run?

• 50:41Speaker 03

  Stanford and Sons.

• 50:42Mark Normand?

  Oh, right, right, Kansas City.

• 50:44Speaker 03

And he goes, uh, and one time I brought Christine with me, like, by the time this club had moved two times now, and it was in Overland Park, Kansas now, it was like, I go, I don't know how much longer this guy's, like, you know, I hear he's stiffing people on money, and so I go, I don't know how much longer this guy's gonna be in the biz, I go, you should come with me to this one, and just, for no other reason. Come do the morning radio run. I don't know if he's gonna hang out at the shows, but he always does anyway. Goes onstage every show. Oh, no. Um, not even for comedy necessarily. He doesn't even, he doesn't, he doesn't even pretend he's doing standup comedy. He just goes up there and personalities them for a while, giving them in, you know, and been hitting on chicks. Sure. Whatever. He's such an awkward dude. And I heard about the, like, ton of blow at that club, right? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 51:23Mark Normand?

Hard to get paid, I heard.

• 51:24Speaker 03

He made his staff, um, he made his staff sign NDAs that they, uh, wouldn't complain about, uh, sexual harassment stuff because comics tend to be a little like this with the ladies. It was fully, I know the staff would tell you, the staff was great there. They were one of those staffs at one point, they were there for a while. So you'd go every couple of, you know, you'd go every year and like, be the same people there. And they were like, yeah, no, he makes it for himself. Oh, man. Weirdest, creepiest guy in the world. And, um, but I brought Christine. I told him, I go, hey, I'm bringing my girlfriend, uh, tomorrow. So I don't, you still have the Lotus? And he was like, I'll bring the Benz.

• 52:03Speaker 03

We get in this Benz and we're driving and where you go to do the radio is, um, it's right, it's in Westport, which was, uh, bad part of town. It's where the first Stanford used to be. Mm-hmm. And it's like a bad part of town. And he's telling us, he goes, yeah, he's, he's being like, this is, he's had, known Christine for 10 minutes drive. That's always known her. I'm nervous. And he goes, uh, he goes, yeah, he goes, the old club used to be right over here. And he goes, and then, you know, before we know it, he goes, the neighborhood just started, uh, changing. He goes, and there was a club over here. And then we'd have our little club and then it'd be a line of N-words. And, you know, he says it. Yeah. Drops it off, wrapped around the corner. And he's just like, oh.

• 52:47Speaker 03

You know, you're like, well, anyway, her name's Christine. She's originally from California, been in New York for a couple of years now. Yeah, it's like that, that blind, just like, and I said, you know, they're picking their marks. Yes. And I just get a weird thing with me. I'm like, why do you think I'm the mark? Exactly. And again, unoffended by it, I'm more offended by like, You didn't feel like you had to feel me out a little bit more?

• 53:08Mark Normand?

  Right, right.

• 53:09Sam Morril?

Mark used to have this great bit about like when someone's racist to you. You there's that weird combination of like, you're like, oh, you piece of shit, but also like, I didn't know we were so close.

• 53:17Mark Normand?

Yeah, yeah, you trust me. Yeah, but you're you're you're cut from a different cloth than most guys. Most comics are nervous, nebbishy. Remember that guy who walked on stage at the strip with William Stevenson?

• 53:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:29Mark Normand?

And he was gonna beat the fuck out of William Stevenson, R I P. I think you can find this clip on YouTube, but you stepped up to the guy and pushed him off.

• 53:35Speaker 03

Maybe it's on YouTube, I don't know. Yeah, I got the guy off stage.

• 53:38Sam Morril?

Was that the, at the strip?

• 53:39Mark Normand?

  At the strip.

• 53:40Speaker 03

This is my last time, that was my last night ever going into the comic strip.

• 53:43Mark Normand?

Wow, because of that, or just?

• 53:45Speaker 03

Yeah, well, no, it wasn't, it was based off of that. Yeah, I don't think there was any cameras on that.

• 53:50Mark Normand?

But your bouncer, your bouncer kicked in, like your old?

• 53:53Speaker 03

Well, there were, well, it was more just like, I was, listen, when the thing was going haywire, because that club, what happened was, I did the first show there that night.

• 54:00Mark Normand?

  Maybe it's not.

• 54:01Speaker 03

Where I was doing the last two, there's definitely no video of it. There was the, the second two shows of the night I was doing there. Closing them, and when I closed the middle show, that place has had degenerated at that point, or I don't know what it's like now, but it was, it was all street team at that point. Barking people in, it wasn't what, I, I worked there in like, not the golden era, but like a good time.

• 54:20Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 54:21Speaker 03

The weekends were like Patrice and, and all these names of guys who were like killing it in the city, and the room's awesome.

• 54:27Mark Normand?

  Great room.

• 54:27Speaker 03

  Great fucking room.

• 54:28Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 54:29Speaker 03

And I love doing it and watching it kind of just like eat shit and become like, you know, a group of like fifteen Puerto Ricans who think that it's their show. And they're pissed because they were lied to about, and you know, and it was always just like, I used to go up there, my fun thing I did by the end there was going up there and just, uh, finding out who's beefing in the audience, because they were. Somebody doesn't like somebody at this table and they wish that bitch would shut up and just like, peacemaking, you know what I mean?

• 54:55Mark Normand?

  That's funny.

• 54:56Speaker 03

Everyone's just trying to get laid tonight, like, don't ever, the guys are pissed because they see their girls are getting out of the movie, you know?

• 55:01Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 55:01Speaker 03

They're with each other, and just try to fuck with them like that, but it was out of control, and William Stevenson didn't give a fuck. Like, he was just collecting a check, you know?

• 55:08Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 55:09Speaker 03

Collecting his cash. So he would go up there and he's like, you know, he would just let them talk all through it and whatever. And he had no control over the room on that second show. And I went up there and like even when I was trying to like work the crowd a little bit, they were just shitty. And I got off stage and I said to Christine in the cab, I was like, I think you just saw my second to last spot for a long time.

• 55:28Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 55:29Speaker 03

At the comic strip. I go, I'm not gonna put in there anymore. That's a bummer.

• 55:32Sam Morril?

Cause it is a classic room. That's where I met you.

• 55:34Speaker 03

Yeah, it's fucking bummer what it was.

• 55:36Sam Morril?

I used to do late night there every night, man.

• 55:38Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 55:39Sam Morril?

  Like I loved, I loved.

• 55:40Speaker 03

  It was so great.

• 55:40Sam Morril?

And even at the end of that two hour, whatever, two and a half hours, they'd still be hot sometimes, you know?

• 55:44Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cause people keep coming in too. It was like that kind of like rotating thing. The Cellar used to be like that.

• 55:49Mark Normand?

  Oh, yeah.

• 55:49Speaker 03

Which was kind of fun. You know what I mean? Cause there was, I said, I worked at The Cellar at a time where like, when I went on stage, sometimes there was 20 people only in the audience.

• 55:57Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 55:57Speaker 03

  That changed.

• 55:58Sam Morril?

Isn't that crazy? That's crazy to think about.

• 56:00Mark Normand?

Now they have four rooms and they're making another one.

• 56:02Speaker 03

  Which, the biggest.

• 56:04Mark Normand?

  Yeah, right.

• 56:04Speaker 03

Of them. But, um, where was I at?

• 56:06Mark Normand?

  Oh, uh.

• 56:07Sam Morril?

  William Stevenson.

• 56:08Speaker 03

  Oh, so.

• 56:08Mark Normand?

  Never working there again.

• 56:09Speaker 03

Yeah, so when I go back for that last set, it's funny, I was going back, I just started talking about the comic strip to Christine and I was like, ah, maybe I'm being crazy. I go, it's like, like literally comic strip is where I met my ex-wife. My daughter wouldn't be alive, wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the comic strip.

• 56:24Mark Normand?

  Damn.

• 56:25Speaker 03

The second club I ever got into in New York.

• 56:27Mark Normand?

  Mm-hmm.

• 56:28Speaker 03

Um, so I was like, ah, maybe I'm being hard on myself. And then as I'm watching the next one, William has no control over the thing. Some girl had her feet on the stage and he did like, I mean, even like the hack need, like, are you in show business?

• 56:41Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 56:42Speaker 03

Then get your feet off the stage. Like he throws it like right away. And you're like, which is funny. And then the boyfriend's talking shit back and he's just, Steven's like, man, shut up. We're blah, you know?

• 56:53Mark Normand?

  That guy was huge.

• 56:54Speaker 03

  Oh, the guy.

• 56:55Mark Normand?

There must be video of it, cause I saw the, the guy was giant. He was like a big blonde guy.

• 56:59Speaker 03

  Um.

• 56:59Sam Morril?

That's tough though, out of the gate, when the co-host calls your girlfriend.

• 57:02Mark Normand?

  Yeah, right.

• 57:03Speaker 03

You might be confusing it with, the one there is a video of, it was a Kill Tony where the guy goes at Jeremiah Watkins and I get him off, I push him off stage.

• 57:11Mark Normand?

  Oh, I, I don't.

• 57:12Speaker 03

Which is, there is a video of that.

• 57:13Mark Normand?

I swear it was at the strip.

• 57:14Sam Morril?

I remember, I remember something, someone, it must've been a pic or something.

• 57:18Mark Normand?

Must've been a pic, cause I saw you like get in between them.

• 57:22Speaker 03

  But there was a.

• 57:23Mark Normand?

  The guy was big.

• 57:24Speaker 03

  Well, yeah, so.

• 57:24Sam Morril?

  This a little.

• 57:25Speaker 03

So the guy, the guy jumps up. Yeah, this is Jeremiah.

• 57:30Sam Morril?

  That's a different story, Matt.

• 57:31Mark Normand?

Oh, yeah, this is, uh, this is definitely not.

• 57:33Speaker 03

This guy's on mushrooms and out of his tree and he tries to go with Jeremiah.

• 57:37Mark Normand?

Wow, the nicest guy in comedy.

• 57:38Sam Morril?

But what, I want to know what happens on this late show.

• 57:41Speaker 03

Um, so when I, uh, so William's telling the guy, and the guy starts jawing at Williams, whatever, and then the guy gets on stage. And I, I'm like, nice, because the heyday of the strip, like, my mind was like, I mean, I used, I'm still friends with Gills, one of my close friends, who was a bouncer there forever. Omar now went on to become a Long Island police officer. But these guys were like, good bouncers. And good in the sense like it wasn't, they weren't like a talk shit and rough you up. They were get you outside, guys.

• 58:09Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 58:09Speaker 03

They were like, let's just get you outside and then, alright, bye.

• 58:12Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 58:12Speaker 03

Sure, I'll fight, we'll fight you. Let's go, tough guy, we'll get outside. And the guy's like, just close the door and like, you know, we'll see you later.

• 58:20Speaker 03

There was no bouncers. When I came in that night, actually, they were laughing. They said they were gonna kick somebody out. But they decided not to, to let, which I hate this, we figured we'll let you handle them.

• 58:30Mark Normand?

  Yes, of course.

• 58:31Speaker 03

Because you talk to the crowd and stuff. But they were already, they took the manager, Dan's hat off, his fedora hat, and started doing like keep away from him.

• 58:38Mark Normand?

  Oh, my god.

• 58:39Speaker 03

As soon as they walked in, and they said they didn't kick them out for that.

• 58:43Mark Normand?

  Jesus.

• 58:44Sam Morril?

By the, by the way, I'm, yeah, I, I, I do crowd work sometimes. I'm not a black belt in jujitsu.

• 58:49Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 58:50Sam Morril?

  Come on, man.

• 58:50Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 58:51Speaker 03

So, I, I mean, I realized when the guy gets up there, I'm like, oh, this guy's about to get fucking removed.

• 58:57Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 58:57Speaker 03

Uh, you know, violently offstage. And then I'm like, oh shit, there's no bouncers here anymore. So I was like, oh, and this guy was like in William's face, like, he was, I don't think William saw that this guy was like, he was gonna hit him, he was gonna do something.

• 59:09Sam Morril?

  Young guy, too?

• 59:10Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, much younger than William, for sure. And like, so I got up and I just got him, pushed him offstage, and he was doing like, you know, see you outside, and I was like, yeah, I'll be out in a second, kinda, you know, like, go, get out of here. And then, I get offstage, and William gets back on the microphone, and I'm like, looking at William from the back of the stage going like, show's over though, dude, like, that's

• 59:27Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 59:27Speaker 03

  Come on.

• 59:28Mark Normand?

  That's a wrap.

• 59:28Speaker 03

That's a wrap. And he goes, well, you just saw him, everybody, so how about one more time? Big J.

• 59:35Speaker 03

I think like five minutes, I was like, William, dude, this energy is fucking wacky.

• 59:38Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 59:39Speaker 03

There was a melee in here a second ago. And we, uh, got out of there, and what happened was, I posted, uh, I posted on, or William posted a thing the next day on Facebook, I think it was. And he goes, uh, he's like, well, he goes, the comic strip, he goes, I'm not telling other comics what to do. I'm just letting you guys know that the comic strip removed me from their schedule for the rest of my booked shows.

• 1:00:03Speaker 03

Because of something last night, whatever. And I wrote back, I'm like, dude, that fucking sucks. They go, well, it's not fully in solidarity to you necessarily. I responded with this. It's not fully in solidarity, but I go, I said yesterday when I was there, I go, I think I'm laying off that place. But I think I'm done at that place. Well, that, it's out of control. Yeah. Just wrote that on, and then Richie Tinkin. Uh, the owner. Or, or a lot of people thought was his wife, his weird wife. Um, Jeannie, but somebody was coming on social media, it was Twitter, I think. At the time, and they're just going and it's like, uh, it's like, we don't want you to work there anymore anyway. And they're just coming at me and it was like, you, their argument was that I defended a guy calling a woman a

• 1:00:47Speaker 03

and they're going back and forth with that. They go, they go, either way, it's not that. They wrote the dumbest things. Defended. They wrote, they wrote the dumbest things, yeah, that I didn't let William Stevenson. I'm like, I think I wrote back, I'm like, I think I saved you from a lawsuit. Yeah, right. I was like, that guy was going on stage to hurt William. And where the bouncers. Yeah, I was like, you should be thanking me. This is fucking crazy. Wow. And they're like, you shouldn't defend somebody who calls a woman a and then he said the most ridiculous claim I've ever heard, and I remember some of the names, cause Seinfeld, Ray Romano, Chris Rock. And I don't remember, there was like one or two more examples. He goes, those guys never have had to use the word on or off stage. And I was like, that's a ridiculous claim to make. Even for Jerry Seinfeld, I bet it's come out of his mouth. Ah.

• 1:01:30Speaker 03

You know what I mean? I'm like, I'm like, but this is a moot point. And then on and on, they're shitting on me and this is back and forth that I was almost having fun with at a point. So I'm like, I guess fuck this place. Yeah. And then, uh, I just thought about the thing that I used to talk about all the time, before podcasts were everywhere. Uh-oh. But I used to always think it was so funny that, well before it was an issue, that they have Richie Tinkin, the owner, was Eddie Murphy's manager forever. Yeah.

• 1:01:56Sam Morril?

And they'll tell you about it too.

• 1:01:58Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:58Sam Morril?

  They were there.

• 1:01:59Speaker 03

Oh, yeah. In his golden years and photos and gold albums. Yeah. And they have, uh, two. Eddie Murphy albums up. And I'm typing this on the thing, I go, you have two Eddie Murphy albums up. One with a track that says, uh. And the second one says, uh, revisited. And I go, now, are we worried about pissing off gay people or only?

• 1:02:22Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 1:02:23Speaker 03

And then they, you'd see it, like systematically, their tweets just, they took down the entire.

• 1:02:26Mark Normand?

  No.

• 1:02:28Speaker 03

And then I just kind of worked there.

• 1:02:29Mark Normand?

  You won.

• 1:02:30Speaker 03

  And then Richie died.

• 1:02:35Speaker 03

But I was a bummer, that's a bummer, that place, when that place would kind of like have shitty stuff happen, because that's like an emotional one for me. In the sense that I said, my daughter was like, you know, my daughter's baby shower was there because all my ex-wife's friends were the staff there that worked there forever.

• 1:02:48Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 1:02:49Sam Morril?

I had great nights there too. I mean, I had a similar, not to your level, but I remember no security.

• 1:02:54Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:55Sam Morril?

I'm on late at night, there's seven dudes who are just heckling me non-stop, and they're big dudes, and they're like, we're gonna fuck you up after the show, and I was like, you very well may.

• 1:03:02Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:03Sam Morril?

There's seven of you and it's just me.

• 1:03:04Speaker 03

And no one's watching my back.

• 1:03:05Sam Morril?

No one's watching my back, and then I somehow got away from them, but I complained to one of the bartenders, and he was like, it's not my job to be in there, I'm like, yeah, but someone should be here.

• 1:03:14Mark Normand?

  Somebody should be there, yeah.

• 1:03:16Speaker 03

Steve Byrne got the, I had to jump on stage for that one too, and the guy.

• 1:03:20Sam Morril?

  Damn.

• 1:03:20Speaker 03

Uh, Steve Byrne, it was funny, it was just like too inflammatory, and young Steve Byrne was a hothead.

• 1:03:27Mark Normand?

  Oh, really?

• 1:03:28Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, you know, I guess grew up playing hockey, not afraid to throw down, he would jump into it, for sure.

• 1:03:33Mark Normand?

  Interesting.

• 1:03:34Speaker 03

Which was impressive to a degree, but like how fast he would get there is also like.

• 1:03:38Mark Normand?

  Right, right.

• 1:03:39Speaker 03

Hey, stage temperament, man, you gotta like.

• 1:03:41Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:42Speaker 03

Which this is not like him at all now, I mean, this is not, you know, he's like a father and whatever, but we were like in our twenties still here.

• 1:03:47Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:48Speaker 03

And he was a real hothead, and at the comic strip, I was next also, and I'm watching this happen. In front of, there's a table of like Puerto Rican dudes and girls who are not enjoying it maybe, I guess, I don't even know if they, he was doing well in the room, I think, they were just being heckled or something like that. And he started talking to them, like, hey, guys, shut the fuck up, you know, it was like not so much funny, but like, hey, it's enough.

• 1:04:12Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:13Speaker 03

And he was like, why don't you leave? Why don't you fucking leave? And he kept calling them O-Town. And then, uh. You kept calling, and the girls were like, fuck you, you blah, blah, blah. And the girls were doing most of the jawing, quite honestly. And then, one of the guys, when he said something, uh, to the girl, the girl threw one of the table menus, you know, little stand things. Like, just at the stage. Didn't hit him or hurt him, right? But it just like, still the action though, when it happens to you, you're like, yo dude, you're very vulnerable on stage, you know what I mean? That'll get you irate, that you're like, hey, I know you just lobbed something, but like, you're letting me know that you're willing to throw something at the stage, like, what's the next thing? And so, uh, you know, he was like, get the fuck out, and they're kicking them out, and they're leaving, they're walking out.

• 1:04:55Speaker 03

And some girl goes, you're just mad because, uh, you couldn't take, you know, you can give it, but you can't take it, or something. And Steve just goes, shut the fuck up. And you see this girl look at her guy with like a... What are you gonna do? You better do something. Yeah. It's like, you're gonna have to answer to me, like, all night. And the guy, just without even words, almost reluctantly, just, I mean, in one motion, running to the stage, scoops up a chair, and I mean, swings it over his head, and I go, uh, I'm only able to go up behind Steve, the bouncer, there was a bouncer this time, Greg, who really wasn't, he was more of a bartender. That's not a bouncer. Not Greg, not Greg, not Greg the manager. Okay. Greg, the bartender guy. Um, who was, you know, he was fine.

• 1:05:38Speaker 03

But he wasn't really a bouncer. But he goes up and gets the other guy, but it's too late, the chair had come over. Uh-oh. And split Steve's. What? And I grabbed Steve, which, by the way, a lesson learned that I'll never do again, it was inconsequential at this point, but I did the wrong move. And if you're stopping a fight and one person's only your friend, you don't grab their arms. Ah, no. Well, the other guy was grabbed already, but I was also stopping Steve. Yeah. And then realizing he's pouring fucking... You watch too many NBA fights. All right, yeah, he got, he was bleeding so bad. And then he had to go to the hospital, and the thing was, he got stitches, or not stitches, uh, staples in his head. Oh, my god. I don't know who it was, but Steve used to get mad, it was pretty funny. That explains his memes now.

• 1:06:17Speaker 03

It's so funny, how mad he would get because someone would just take like a, Yeah. Like a rack of staples, you know, like, out of the staple, and like, tape it to his head shuttle. And I never, no one, I never did it. No one ever knows who did it, but it would just... He would come in angrily, take it down, and then somebody else would just like put it back up the next.

• 1:06:33Mark Normand?

I can't believe William Stevenson stole his joke. Like, look at that cunt. Stevenson's like, oh, that's pretty good.

• 1:06:39Speaker 03

That club, I guess it was run way back in the day from the, by the Westies or something like that.

• 1:06:43Mark Normand?

  Oh, geez.

• 1:06:44Speaker 03

Where one of the owners was involved with that. But it's such a, the club, man, it's such a history of the weird things. They used to have a porter, the overnight Asian guy named Tin. I was just so into with that place. Uh, that was working, and he was the sweetest guy. You know him for years, and you're like, Tin, you know, and like, you know, he knew us, he was friendly always. And then you find out one day, it's like, where's Tin? He goes, for the last 15 years, he's been siphoning booze. Out of the, of the booze.

• 1:07:11Sam Morril?

That's why he was so friendly.

• 1:07:12Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 1:07:13Speaker 03

Do you know how they found out?

• 1:07:14Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:14Speaker 03

He was, it's such a great, their clientele started turning far more ethnic than it was, uh, in my younger years.

• 1:07:22Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 1:07:23Speaker 03

And a guy ordered a Hennessy on the rocks. And they came out and they gave him a Hennessy, and he gave it back, and they go, he said, this isn't Hennessy. So, uh, they pour him another one. And then he walks out. And he goes, and she was like, I saw him pour it from the bottle. He goes, it's great. It's not Hennessy, though.

• 1:07:41Mark Normand?

  Mmm.

• 1:07:42Speaker 03

And he comes out, he puts it down, he goes, I'm a Hen, I drink it. I'm telling you, that's not Hennessy. And then he goes, sir, will pour another one out of the bottle? And they did. And then he went across the street to the liquor store and came back, bought a fifth or whatever.

• 1:07:53Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:54Speaker 03

And he poured it in a glass next to it. It was that, and they found out that that guy was going and taking little bits to give to his family's restaurant.

• 1:08:00Mark Normand?

  Oh, my god.

• 1:08:01Speaker 03

And he would fill everything with just rum and just put it back, and no one really checked.

• 1:08:05Mark Normand?

  Wow.

• 1:08:06Sam Morril?

I guess if you're already drunk at a comedy club, you're not expecting like a, a state of the art cocktail to begin with, you know?

• 1:08:12Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 1:08:12Speaker 03

But if you're doing like, if you're doing like a sipping kind of thing, yeah.

• 1:08:15Mark Normand?

  Liquor.

• 1:08:16Speaker 03

You assume no one's gonna care, cause you're like, rum and coke anyway, you know, or Jack and Coke, and like, as long as there's booze in it, who gives a shit, really?

• 1:08:22Mark Normand?

Jeez, tin and tonic. That's crazy, but, oh, I forgot what I was gonna say. You threw me off with tin.

• 1:08:29Speaker 03

  Sorry, Dan.

• 1:08:30Mark Normand?

Didn't. Oh, Steve Byrne. Oh, sorry, now I can't stop thinking about Seinfeld saying, what's the deal with women?

• 1:08:41Mark Normand?

It's a body part and a bitch. Alright, uh, that's crazy. Boy, comedy feels like it was way more lawless, you know, 15 years ago. It was like fighty and, you know, people stealing.

• 1:08:52Sam Morril?

I think camera phones are a big part of that.

• 1:08:54Mark Normand?

  Yeah, sorry Kramer.

• 1:08:56Sam Morril?

Being able to document should change a lot of shady.

• 1:09:00Mark Normand?

  I think so too.

• 1:09:01Speaker 03

It also seems so to encourage, like, people though with the filming to like, let's make a moment.

• 1:09:06Mark Normand?

  Of course, it's definitely that.

• 1:09:08Speaker 03

No one's afraid of being the asshole in a, in a video.

• 1:09:11Mark Normand?

  No.

• 1:09:11Speaker 03

As long as it's out there.

• 1:09:13Mark Normand?

I know, it might even like sell tickets to be the asshole.

• 1:09:16Speaker 03

Yeah, it's like something like the Hawk Two, which obviously, you know, whatever, but.

• 1:09:19Mark Normand?

  Came and went.

• 1:09:20Speaker 03

It's not, but it's not even, but it's not even the, that she's famous for this dumb thing for a minute. It's the acceptance of the fame.

• 1:09:27Mark Normand?

  I know.

• 1:09:28Speaker 03

Like when you go, it's like, well, clearly I got something that people wanna see, so let me, and it's just like, no, it's just made people laugh for a day.

• 1:09:34Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 1:09:35Speaker 03

Yeah, she like, she literally was like, and then a second later like, is she gonna be the new Ellen?

• 1:09:39Mark Normand?

  Yeah, right?

• 1:09:40Speaker 03

Right, but she almost believes like, I think as soon as the Hawk Two thing goes, a few days into it, she's like, I think there's a path to me becoming the next Ellen.

• 1:09:49Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:50Speaker 03

She does The Coin and then she has her own podcast.

• 1:09:52Mark Normand?

  Totally.

• 1:09:52Sam Morril?

And did The Coin, is that what did her in?

• 1:09:55Mark Normand?

The Coin, yeah, it was fraud or something. She got in trouble.

• 1:09:58Speaker 03

Yeah, and Adam 22 guy got in trouble for that too.

• 1:10:01Mark Normand?

  Oh, really?

• 1:10:02Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:10:03Mark Normand?

  Damn.

• 1:10:04Speaker 03

You guys ever have him on?

• 1:10:05Mark Normand?

No, I've seen the video of his wife getting plowed.

• 1:10:08Speaker 03

  Several now.

• 1:10:09Mark Normand?

  Oh, jeez.

• 1:10:10Speaker 03

Yeah. She likes him big and she likes him black, and you know what? I have no problem with that.

• 1:10:14Mark Normand?

  Ah!

• 1:10:15Speaker 03

Uh, in my pornography, am I okay with that? Especially when it's another man's wife, that seems great.

• 1:10:20Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:21Speaker 03

It does add some evil to it. Also, because he's in such a world, Adam 22, of like, uh, like, Wigger and black culture.

• 1:10:28Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 1:10:29Speaker 03

That like, nobody in his world supported this at all.

• 1:10:31Sam Morril?

  What is he known for?

• 1:10:33Mark Normand?

  Big Dong?

• 1:10:34Speaker 03

He was, he's definitely got a piece. Uh, Adam 22 was like a BMX guy or dirt bike guy. He was an extreme sports guy, and then he started a podcast, uh, bringing out like, new, like, young underground hip-hop stuff, so he got all these people, the XXX did and, and all these people when they were young, and then people, he was just breaking people. And it just got huge and, and, and huge, and then his wife.

• 1:10:57Mark Normand?

Yeah, what's the deal with the wife?

• 1:10:58Speaker 03

  And she started doing porn.

• 1:11:00Mark Normand?

Oh, well, why's he like, does he like guys plowing his wife?

• 1:11:03Speaker 03

Well, that's a newer thing. They did porn, the guy was brilliant. I mean, in this, his sales pitch must be fantastic. He goes, hey, I want to be with you and only you emotionally, but I want to fuck a lot of other girls. I don't want you to fuck other guys. But, but how about if we do it together and we'll make money off it on camera? So their, their podcast, that I lost porno podcast of the year to, uh, at the AVN awards. Uh, Plug Talk is him and his chick sitting like this.

• 1:11:32Mark Normand?

  Yep.

• 1:11:33Speaker 03

And talk to a porn star. Probably mindlessly for thirty grueling minutes, I assume. And then he fucks his wife and the girl.

• 1:11:42Mark Normand?

  Oh.

• 1:11:44Speaker 03

But they called lately for her to fuck somebody else and then she fucked that huge cocked black guy. And now she's done a few more.

• 1:11:50Mark Normand?

  Yikes.

• 1:11:51Speaker 02

She goes by Lena the Plug.

• 1:11:53Speaker 03

  Lena, it's.

• 1:11:54Speaker 02

  Oh Lana?

• 1:11:54Speaker 03

  Lena, isn't that weirder?

• 1:11:56Mark Normand?

Yeah, but she, he gets to bang other porn stars too. That's the deal. Okay, got it.

• 1:12:02Speaker 03

But, uh. He must have had a good lawyer for this.

• 1:12:06Speaker 03

But his whole thing, uh, his whole thing fell apart. It's falling apart. I guess the whole network's like going to pieces.

• 1:12:11Mark Normand?

  You don't say.

• 1:12:13Speaker 03

Um, I don't just cry. Well, Matt, you're so concerned. I didn't realize you had such a stake in this.

• 1:12:17Speaker 02

About the life at all, but the podcast falling apart. Why?

• 1:12:20Speaker 03

The network's falling. He has a video. It's like, it's why it's going broke. I think it was just, they hired a bunch of people. They were trying to keep it going for probably too long. He probably doesn't care anymore. He's making a ton of money, I'm sure, off her porn. You don't picture that type of concept having like a season five.

• 1:12:35Speaker 03

Well, no, not that. That, that, that podcast is going strong.

• 1:12:38Speaker 02

  Oh, okay.

• 1:12:39Speaker 03

The one he does where he breaks like the people and everyone fights. But I mean, there, it's good clip watching.

• 1:12:43Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:44Speaker 03

I find all these things, because I watch all of the podcast breakdown ones. I said I've, this is my first time being here, but I know the set so well, because you guys have a great podcast for the, the podcast cringe and comedy.

• 1:12:55Mark Normand?

  Oh, they love that shit.

• 1:12:56Speaker 03

Well, no, not, not even attacking you guys at all. Like, it's a good show for them to go at whoever the guest is, because they'll go, you could see Sam right here loses complete interest.

• 1:13:05Sam Morril?

  Really?

• 1:13:06Speaker 03

They go, Sam was trying to wrap the show up right there and you can see he just got drug into it some more.

• 1:13:09Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:10Speaker 03

They always love going at Burt. They always love going at Burt.

• 1:13:12Mark Normand?

  They love Burt.

• 1:13:13Speaker 03

So Burt's like, if you have Burt in your podcast, they're always gonna be like.

• 1:13:16Sam Morril?

  Oh, we did recently.

• 1:13:17Speaker 03

No, no, no. And it was great. You guys had a good time. It's like, it's a thing where it's like, but you can see it's like,

• 1:13:22Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:22Speaker 03

Mark's over it. Stop. Sam doesn't want to talk about this conversation. They're bringing, they also have no idea what people's like, genuine relationships are and shit. You know what I mean?

• 1:13:30Mark Normand?

Yeah, he goes, Burt embarrassed himself. That came out like an hour after the episode came out. These guys are fucking on it.

• 1:13:36Speaker 03

  Embarrasses himself.

• 1:13:37Mark Normand?

  That's embarrassing.

• 1:13:38Speaker 03

  Yeah, rock bottom.

• 1:13:39Mark Normand?

  Right there.

• 1:13:40Sam Morril?

Don't give, don't give them attention. I've already watched it. I don't, cause I don't want them to shit in our guests. I'm eighteen minutes into it.

• 1:13:47Speaker 03

Oh, but I said this to, I did this when I was on Burt's show too, though. I'm like, these people are fans.

• 1:13:52Sam Morril?

  Okay.

• 1:13:52Mark Normand?

  Of course.

• 1:13:53Speaker 03

  Those, it's SportsCenter.

• 1:13:55Mark Normand?

  Right, right.

You never felt, you never felt bad when you'd watch SportsCenter all morning and they were going like, how is this guy getting a max contract with that sloppy gross play? And you were like, I know, you're right. I paid, uh,

• 1:14:07Sam Morril?

  Right, right.

• 1:14:08Speaker 03

So that's what they are to us.

• 1:14:10Mark Normand?

  And, and no one else.

• 1:14:11Speaker 03

They're still consuming all of our shit.

• 1:14:12Mark Normand?

Well, we don't have a TMZ or anything. So this is their, this is where the people get their drama, their comedy drama.

• 1:14:17Speaker 03

Some people go like, listen, like anything, people go too far and there's people who are assholes about it. But I mean, most of them are like a fan breaking down. Even the ones that go at Burt, like one of the guys who goes at Burt a lot, is pretty like even keeled in the whole thing. And he'll be like, I've been starting to like Burt's things a little more lately. He's like, he's getting into the, you know, it's like, they just, they don't mean anything, but they're just making content.

• 1:14:39Mark Normand?

Yeah, I mean, I've shit on.

• 1:14:40Speaker 03

I think most of them don't mean harm.

• 1:14:42Mark Normand?

  Ah, yeah, I guess, but.

• 1:14:43Speaker 03

I think most, I think most.

• 1:14:44Mark Normand?

But we're so sensitive. I think they forget that, that we like watch everything and no one talks about us.

• 1:14:49Speaker 03

We have to like, get better at that.

• 1:14:51Mark Normand?

  Right.

• 1:14:51Speaker 03

We have to not, we have to dish it and take it. Like.

• 1:14:55Mark Normand?

  I guess so.

• 1:14:56Speaker 03

There comes to a point where you start moving up and like, first of all, internally, you stop taking it.

• 1:15:01Sam Morril?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:01Speaker 03

Because you're moving up the ranks, so you're the disher only. Do you know what I mean?

• 1:15:04Sam Morril?

And the hope is that you get busy enough to not look.

• 1:15:07Speaker 03

You don't have a person higher up than you, kinda, you know, being like, shut up with your shirt and act. You know what I mean? And like, we still need some of that.

• 1:15:16Mark Normand?

  That's a good point, it's a good point.

• 1:15:17Speaker 03

Evening out of the thing, it can't just be everybody.

• 1:15:19Sam Morril?

But it's better when it comes from a friend than it comes from a place of like, love than just a stranger who's like, fuck you.

• 1:15:24Mark Normand?

Yeah, and they put editing time and they put clips together, it's like, must've taken 10 days.

• 1:15:29Sam Morril?

But you see comics who like, didn't come up with a comedian friend group and they, and they do shit sometimes where I'm like, oh, you need a friend to tell you not to do that shit.

• 1:15:36Mark Normand?

  Oh, totally.

• 1:15:37Sam Morril?

You know, so you need your comedy friends to, to keep it real with you.

• 1:15:40Mark Normand?

Have you ever seen Soder do Elvis as Chappelle?

• 1:15:44Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:15:44Mark Normand?

Oh my god, it's like, uh, fucking trannies, thank you. I can't, I can't recreate it, he can do the voices. Get him to do that if you ever get alone with him in a green room, it's pretty great.

• 1:15:55Speaker 03

Well, I just had the rape thing, I saw Sam look over the thing and all I'm thinking about is the podcast.

• 1:16:00Sam Morril?

No, because we have another guest coming, that's why, that's why I look.

• 1:16:03Speaker 03

  Sam did not.

• 1:16:06Mark Normand?

  It's coming, it's coming.

• 1:16:07Sam Morril?

No, we should wrap this because we have another guest coming, but you got, you got to, uh,

• 1:16:10Mark Normand?

  Oh, plug.

• 1:16:11Sam Morril?

  A them on, on YouTube.

• 1:16:13Speaker 03

Second part, they is out right now.

• 1:16:14Sam Morril?

There's a lot of crowd work out there, Jay is great at it, really.

• 1:16:17Speaker 03

  Oh, thank you.

• 1:16:17Mark Normand?

  One of the OGs.

• 1:16:19Speaker 03

Thank you guys, well you guys are two of the best, so I appreciate you saying that, man. Thanks for having me, I'd love to come do it again sometime.

• 1:16:23Sam Morril?

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:16:24Speaker 03

  Sorry I was late.

• 1:16:25Mark Normand?

Listen to Legion of Skanks, listen to, uh,

• 1:16:27Speaker 03

  Bonfire.

• 1:16:28Mark Normand?

  Bonfire.

• 1:16:28Speaker 03

  Story Wars.

• 1:16:29Mark Normand?

Story Wars, geez, you got a lot of stuff on the, on the fires.

• 1:16:32Speaker 03

  It never ends.

• 1:16:33Mark Normand?

It really does, it's so much work.

• 1:16:35Speaker 03

Can I ask you guys your opinion on something real quick?

• 1:16:36Mark Normand?

  Please.

• 1:16:38Speaker 03

I just got my first, as long as I've been doing stuff, my first hundred thousand, uh, hundred thousand subscribers thing.

• 1:16:43Mark Normand?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:16:45Speaker 03

Didn't you think it was gonna be bigger and heavier and stuff like that? The box that came and I was like, no, isn't this thing like a,

• 1:16:50Mark Normand?

  I know.

• 1:16:51Speaker 03

Like a, like a gold record?

• 1:16:52Sam Morril?

  I've never touched it, I don't know.

• 1:16:53Speaker 03

  It's flimsy.

• 1:16:55Mark Normand?

Oh yeah, I never touched it either.

• 1:16:57Speaker 03

  It's flimsy.

• 1:16:58Mark Normand?

  It's plastic.

• 1:16:58Speaker 03

  It's plastic.

• 1:16:59Mark Normand?

  Ah.

• 1:17:01Speaker 03

It used to be, I think, also like a bubble that came out.

• 1:17:03Mark Normand?

  Oh yeah.

• 1:17:04Speaker 03

  Like it was like tactile.

• 1:17:05Mark Normand?

Well, this used to be a big deal, but now like, my grandma has one, you know, they're, they're giving them out now.

• 1:17:10Speaker 03

  Just her unboxing present.

• 1:17:12Mark Normand?

She died. But yeah, she's a different box now. But yeah. Uh, yeah, Jay's all over.

• 1:17:18Speaker 03

  Thank you, guys.

• 1:17:19Speaker 02

  It's June 6th at Levittown?

• 1:17:21Speaker 03

  Yes, indeed.

• 1:17:22Speaker 02

  You wanna read them off?

• 1:17:22Mark Normand?

  Governors, baby. And then, uh...

• 1:17:24Speaker 03

  Governors, American Comedy Company.

• 1:17:25Sam Morril?

Oh, love it. Stephen Diego's the best.

• 1:17:27Speaker 03

  That's a great club, man.

• 1:17:28Mark Normand?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:28Speaker 03

Comedy Zone Charlotte, it's probably gonna need a little love. Let's get out there. Uh, Liberty Funny Bone, yeah, I'm not sure if I'm putting you in all the way at the back there.

• 1:17:35Mark Normand?

  It's a big room.

• 1:17:36Speaker 03

  Tacoma's fun.

• 1:17:37Mark Normand?

That's a great club, great town.

• 1:17:39Speaker 03

  And then Stress Factory.

• 1:17:40Mark Normand?

  Hell, yeah.

• 1:17:40Speaker 03

Always an excuse to kick it with Old Vinnie Brand.

• 1:17:42Mark Normand?

  Yeah, phone on stage.

• 1:17:44Speaker 03

The Craig Glazer of the East Coast.

• 1:17:47Speaker 03

  The Bobby Jewels of Jersey.

• 1:17:49Mark Normand?

They always have their name on the, on the club sign, always.

• 1:17:53Speaker 03

I said Vinnie Brand, uh, if you told me that was a stage name, I'd believe you, because that guy's big into brand. Vinnie Brand, Stress Factory on Vinnie Brand cul-de-sac, right outside of Vinnie Brand Boulevard.

• 1:18:03Sam Morril?

I love that room, though, man. It's like one of my favorites.

• 1:18:05Mark Normand?

When that room's pumping, it's nothing better.

• 1:18:07Speaker 03

  Open mics there.

• 1:18:08Mark Normand?

Oh, I'm going to the UK and Reykjavik. I'm in, uh, London, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast, then back to upstate New York, just to get humbled again. Rochester, Albany, Portchester, Burlington, Wisconsin, Eugene, uh, San Jose, Hyannis, Mass, at the Melody Tent. And, you know, it keeps going. Then I'm in Australia. So, tell your friends, fuck your wife, and take a hit.

• 1:18:35Speaker 02

And we have Sam's Days here, May 4th in San Francisco, May 5th in Portland.

• 1:18:40Sam Morril?

That's me sick. Yeah, Portland, I had a late show on Monday, so please don't fucking make me regret it. That's gonna be tough. Seattle, Vancouver, Boise, Idaho, Denver, and then we just, just added Red Bank, New Jersey. Boston, the Wilbur in August, and we just added, yeah, Irvine, uh, keep going, Oklahoma City, Vegas, September 19th.

• 1:18:59Mark Normand?

  Yee-haw!

• 1:19:00Sam Morril?

And then Rochester, New York, I love that club. And then go to the bottom, the big ones are, uh, yeah, another, October 4th, Chicago Theater, please come out. Uh, and then Salt Lake, I'm coming back to Salt Lake, and then, uh, in, uh, November, and then the big one, uh, December 4th, Carnegie.

• 1:19:15Mark Normand?

  Hey!

• 1:19:15Sam Morril?

Please come out of my city, kid. It means a lot to me, so...

• 1:19:18Mark Normand?

You got some time, but that's exciting.

• 1:19:19Sam Morril?

  Yeah, it'll be fun.

• 1:19:20Mark Normand?

It's a milestone. And get some Bodega Cat, folks. Drink some. Praise Allah, Legion of Skanks, they/them, Bonfire, Story Wars. We'll see you all in hell.

• 1:19:30Speaker 04

Sunday's the day for my next fender. A bit of Peverack, you know the future's close. I've had a little too much bourbon and Norman's talking shit about the fucking Pope. And I get down in the same way. Up on the roof like the cops are coming and naked Samuel is feeling dangerous. I'm out to lunch here in New Orleans. This woman doesn't look like I remember her. And I get down in the same way. We might be true.
