Patreon preview. Unlock full episode at https://www.patreon.com/stavvysworld Edy Modica and Ben “Mr. Cheeks” O’Brien return to the pod to celebrate the beautiful tradition of Cheeksmas. Transmitting from a metaphysical realm where time and space are transcended, human senses are distorted, and temperatures are subzero, the gang conduct tarot readings and discuss witchcraft, the universe, and other mind-boggling topics that can’t be fully comprehended on the terrestrial level. Edy, Mr. Cheeks and Stav impart wisdom to callers including a woman in her self-conscious about her lack of dating experience, and a man who really mishandled a hookup with his coworker. I'm calling him just this friend who uh was addicted to a few different things for a while. I'm not sure all the drugs, but definitely alcohol. Either way, cleaned up his life, moved to Costa Rica.

• 0:13Stavros Halkias?

  Okay.

• 0:14Speaker 00

To um teach people how to speak English. And he'd been doing good and everything, but he'd only been down there two months and he met someone and he married them.

• 0:25Stavros Halkias?

  Oh wow.

• 0:26Speaker 00

And uh apparently this was a very bad idea because he didn't know her very well and she is a abusive alcoholic and a chronic cocaine addict. And um every time he tries to help her to get off these things, she makes him get back on this.

• 0:43Stavros Halkias?

  Oh wow.

• 0:44Speaker 00

So basically she's kicked him out of the house and told him that he's not allowed to live there anymore and but he doesn't have any money, he's lost everything and so he's living on the street, is what he's saying. And um he recently created an account to help to buy him a plane ticket. And his plane ticket would be back home here in Georgia. And um it's a thousand dollars for the ticket.

• 1:12Stavros Halkias?

  That's too much.

• 1:13Speaker 00

Because he wants to leave right away. My issue is, I don't know if I can trust him at all. Because, one, this sounds very, very sketchy, he needs money, I can get it for him right now. This is the first time I would be able to in a very long time, I just recently um inherited some money and he knows about it.

• 1:34Stavros Halkias?

  Oh my god.

• 1:37Speaker 00

  Use that?

• 1:39Stavros Halkias?

This is fucking incredible, this guy, actually, let's finish it, but I just, I just mean, it's so awesome to be like, oh, my wife is making me do cocaine, like my addict friend who's like, went to go teach English. Okay, immediately gets married, his, his wife is really abusive and forces him to do drugs and then kicks him out. Why exactly, I don't like, it's just like, why are you listening to this guy, but let's finish and, and now, and this all happens when he knows you have money? All of a sudden, he needs it really bad, keep going, I'll just, sorry, it's just so funny.

• 2:17Speaker 00

And I think the best case scenario in this situation, because I don't think if I bought him a ticket, I would get it back no matter what.

• 2:25Stavros Halkias?

  Of course not.

• 2:25Speaker 00

But best case scenario would be, uh, he shows back up, gets his life together and just never pays me back, which is terrible, sucks, but, or the worst case scenario is he ends up taking the money and just using it with his life to keep, to continue what they're doing.

• 2:43Stavros Halkias?

  Right.

• 2:44Speaker 00

I don't know. I wanna be a good person here, Stav. I really do. And, but I also know I need to set boundaries. I'm in therapy for this kinda thing, like, give me some advice, baby, please.

• 2:56Stavros Halkias?

  Jesus Christ, this sucks.

• 2:58Speaker 00

Eldis, chime in, anything. Alright, thank you. Bye.

• 3:02Stavros Halkias?

You didn't wanna move this one to the front of the line?

• 3:03Speaker 02

Wait, wait, wait, wait. I also need a thousand dollars. You think this guy could help me out?

• 3:10Stavros Halkias?

When did he send this in?

• 3:11Speaker 03

I think we should call him.

• 3:12Stavros Halkias?

  Yeah, he needs to be.

• 3:13Speaker 02

  Let's give him a call.

• 3:14Stavros Halkias?

Okay, well, by the time this comes out, it'll be quite, just be like, look, man, we're covering this on a few, you should text him and be like, look, we're covering this on a future episode, do not give this guy money.

• 3:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, I mean.

• 3:27Stavros Halkias?

  Because this is insane.

• 3:28Speaker 03

  No.

• 3:28Speaker 02

Definitely just either, most likely just not going to get the ticket.

• 3:33Stavros Halkias?

  Right.

• 3:33Speaker 02

And just stay there and be like, oh, I have a thousand dollars, baby, like, I can give you drugs.

• 3:38Speaker 03

Yeah, the round number of a thousand dollars that he needs.

• 3:42Stavros Halkias?

Eldis, look up, Eldis, look up, uh, flight to Costa, Costa Rica to Atlanta.

• 3:47Speaker 02

I guarantee it's like four hundred dollars.

• 3:49Speaker 04

I did, I did it, I did it one summer for like four or five hundred dollars. That's like during summer.

• 3:56Speaker 04

  Round trip during summer.

• 3:59Stavros Halkias?

So this is probably a two hundred fifty dollar ticket.

• 4:02Speaker 04

  Season.

• 4:03Stavros Halkias?

  Yeah.

• 4:04Speaker 03

I wanna know how they're friends.

• 4:06Stavros Halkias?

  Yeah.

• 4:06Speaker 03

Like, how does a guy who sounds like this get wrapped up with that guy?

• 4:10Stavros Halkias?

Well, I don't wanna say my knee jerk reaction is that he's in love with him. You know what I mean? Like a very kind gay guy.

• 4:17Speaker 03

  Why would you say that?

• 4:18Stavros Halkias?

Gay sounding guy's in love with some straight train wreck. It's a classic kinda like trashy, trashy friendship, you know what I mean? Yeah, this guy who's the Costa Rican guy.

• 4:28Speaker 03

Yeah, the guy in Costa Rica.

• 4:29Stavros Halkias?

Yeah, he probably got himself a nice wife.

• 4:31Speaker 02

You know, he does sound hot. I just imagined him as an attractive person.

• 4:37Speaker 04

He's like, yeah, I'm gonna go teach English in a fucking surf town known for just a bunch of young like

• 4:43Stavros Halkias?

  Yeah.

• 4:44Speaker 04

beach bums going there and fucking off.

• 4:46Stavros Halkias?

Yeah, that's where, when you, when you have a cocaine problem, you want to go to a vacation town in South America. That's where you clean off of cocaine.

• 4:55Speaker 02

When I, whenever I'm trying to get off cocaine, I go right to South America.

• 5:00Stavros Halkias?

Um, so, I mean, that's my one, that's a possible guess. Maybe this guy's not even gay, he's just southern.

• 5:10Stavros Halkias?

And he could just be a really nice guy. He's clearly somebody with guilt. He already feels guilty for not giving him the thousand dollars. Like, buddy, you're out of your mind. This is, yeah, good thing you're in, you're in therapy and working on this.

• 5:26Stavros Halkias?

Are you fucking texting him right now?

• 5:29Speaker 02

I'm definitely gonna forget if I don't do it this second.

• 5:32Stavros Halkias?

  Do it right now.

• 5:32Speaker 02

It's so funny to do that right now.

• 5:34Stavros Halkias?

Yeah, but this is so important that I think we need to do it. But, yeah, I mean, this is just like, we know, this, this guy clearly has some kind of, he, this, our caller comes from some kind of horrible

• 5:49Speaker 02

  Definitely.

• 5:50Stavros Halkias?

background where there's some kind of shitty parent that constantly asks you stuff and guilts you. And he's attracted to the same kind of people in his life.

• 5:57Speaker 02

There's no, there's no other bond beyond frie- just two people being friends that he feels this kind of like, oh, I should. It's like, this guy is an adult. He can get himself a plane ticket over here.

• 6:10Stavros Halkias?

Fuck this guy. What did he do? Did he save you from a burning building?

• 6:13Speaker 02

  That's what I'm saying.

• 6:14Stavros Halkias?

If, look, if he saved your life. Maybe give him the thousand dollars and never speak to him again. But if he didn't, if he did anything short of saving your life, don't give him the money.

• 6:25Speaker 02

It's also an easy out. No, I'm sorry. Oh, he knows about the inherited money.

• 6:29Stavros Halkias?

I mean, that's the thing, dude. This is fucking, yeah, you know the answer.

• 6:32Speaker 03

And you're not helping your friend by giving him the money.

• 6:35Stavros Halkias?

That's actually a good point, too. That's a great point, too. Cause he's also just lying to you and he's gonna buy cocaine. And he's trying to get enough cocaine to be able to fuck his wife for three more weeks before she sends him away.

• 6:48Speaker 02

So true. It's, it's also just not, even if he did come back and clean himself up, which is not gonna happen.

• 6:54Stavros Halkias?

  Right.

• 6:55Speaker 02

It's still messy. Like, it's so weird.

• 6:57Stavros Halkias?

And not your fault, not your problem. And by the way, I don't believe a single thing this guy said.

• 7:03Speaker 03

  No.

• 7:03Stavros Halkias?

Does he, is any of this true? Did he go to speak to teach English? Probably not. Is he even married? Probably not. Like, is this, really this, this woman forced him to do drugs? That's what happened. And he's on the street now? And he needs a thousand dollar plane ticket cause he wants to go right away. Offer to buy him the plane ticket directly. See how he fucking, how his behavior changes.

• 7:28Speaker 02

  There you go.

• 7:29Stavros Halkias?

  Offer to be like-

• 7:30Speaker 02

When you're like, actually, certain, like, someone on the street, like,

• 7:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 7:33Speaker 02

  I'll get you some food.

• 7:34Stavros Halkias?

How about a sandwich and an apple?

• 7:35Speaker 03

  Fuck you.

• 7:36Stavros Halkias?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, so yeah. This, this is crazy. You're a sweet guy. Don't do this. Do not give this guy any money. You, and he's like, he's even like, I couldn't in the past, but now I can.

• 7:49Speaker 03

  I know, stop!

• 7:51Stavros Halkias?

  That's, it's like, dude, no!

• 7:53Speaker 02

  It's really sweet.

• 7:54Stavros Halkias?

  He's a sweet guy, you're a good guy.

• 7:55Speaker 02

I want to be my friend and I wanna take advantage of him.

• 7:57Stavros Halkias?

  Yeah.
