Josh Widdicombe

In a first ever for the podcast, this week both mum & I managed to forget to cook…Fortunately our guest Josh Widdicombe was actually stuck on a train during a tube strike and we had time to get it all sorted. When Josh finally made it to my house, we covered everything from how 'The Last Leg' was formed, his thoughts on school events, WhatsApp groups, eating his parents famous ‘Hippy Stew’, spicy food and how it’s his role at home to keep a tight control on the fridge! We also heard all about how he put together his brand new comedy tour ‘Not My Cup of Tea’ which is on the road until May 2026. It sounds brilliant, you don’t want to miss it! Thank you Josh for schlepping up from Devon, we loved having you join us. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy https://acast.com/privacy for more information.

• 0:35Jessie Ware?

Hello and welcome to Table manners. I'm Jessie Ware and well, we've had our first situation in how many years?

• 0:44Speaker 02

  Seven years. Eight years.

• 0:47Jessie Ware?

Yeah, this has never happened before.

• 0:49Speaker 02

  It's called poor communication, darling.

• 0:51Jessie Ware?

Or too much communication that like communication fatigue.

• 0:55Speaker 02

You thought I was cooking. We're in your house.

• 0:57Jessie Ware?

Yeah, we're doing the recordings here this week. So I kind of thought that you were cooking the main.

• 1:05Speaker 02

  What made you think that?

• 1:06Jessie Ware?

Because you sent me a recipe and I went, oh yeah, that looks good. You should do that.

• 1:10Speaker 02

Do you know what would have been a good idea? You say, so you're doing the main mum.

• 1:14Jessie Ware?

  I just thought you were.

• 1:15Speaker 02

Because I was thought I was doing two desserts this week.

• 1:18Jessie Ware?

  So anyway.

• 1:19Speaker 02

  So I arrived.

• 1:20Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 1:21Speaker 02

  Relaxed.

• 1:22Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 1:22Speaker 02

Not cooked anything because you'd done the dessert as well. And you said, what did you say?

• 1:29Jessie Ware?

So you've made a kind of soup, haven't you mum?

• 1:31Speaker 02

And I said, oh no, I've not made anything.

• 1:34Jessie Ware?

Luckily for us, there's a big tube strike and our guest is late. So it was panic stations, but luckily we have excellent listeners and chefs in the room. So we all, I saw that I'd bought some really nice courgettes the other day and hadn't used them yet. And it was very much a fridge raid and a quick trip to the local shops.

• 1:58Speaker 02

  But gorgeous.

• 1:58Jessie Ware?

It was a team effort. So I decided on, you can't go wrong with bold bean beans. So I have a jar jar of those butter beans. So it's a butter bean with schmaltzy courgettes. I put a bit of vinegar to bring a bit of tang to it, but then also I put some cream in. So anyway, it's nice and with some dill and oregano. And then I'm going to put some goat's cheese on the top. And then I've done. Anna Jones, I did it for somebody on this podcast and I can't remember who. It's the wedge salad in that brilliant cookbook of hers, Easy Wins. And I've done that wedge salad where she does it with a Greek yogurt, tahini, chives and dill.

• 2:40Jessie Ware?

And then these breadcrumbs with pitted olives and I had some green olives in the fridge. So it's very much, my husband's going to be thrilled, it's incredibly sustainable. And then for pudding, my husband is the king of the crumble. But we have really beautiful fruit trees in our garden, which sometimes it makes it smell like a brewery out there. And we've had so many that we haven't known what to do with it. So Sam, this summer, has made it his mission to find the ones without maggots in. Because we have had a better year this year. And so we've got loads of apples, so he had already done some apples. But to my dismay, when I, he was like, babe, I'm gonna make it now, so sweet, thank you so much, Sam.

• 3:26Jessie Ware?

  He'd left skins on.

• 3:28Speaker 02

  He always does.

• 3:29Jessie Ware?

  I hate it.

• 3:30Speaker 02

  He always does.

• 3:31Jessie Ware?

I want to put this to the listener, who wants a skin of apple in their crumble? Anyone?

• 3:37Speaker 02

I don't think it matters, to be honest.

• 3:39Jessie Ware?

  I think it's not sheep.

• 3:40Speaker 02

  I wouldn't do it.

• 3:42Jessie Ware?

  It's not gourmet.

• 3:43Speaker 02

I've tasted his and I think it's all right.

• 3:45Jessie Ware?

It's good for your like roughage, gut, whatever. But I didn't think Josh Widdicombe necessarily needed that fibre today. I don't know, he has loads of fibre, he's a vegetarian. Anyway, so I tried to pull a load of the skin off, but there probably is going to be a bit of skin in there. And then we had some damsons from the last month that were in the freezer, so I've put them in. So we've got a damson and apple crumble and he's done the crumble top. But I kind of just text him saying, can you just do a bit more crumble top? So, yeah. I don't think it's gonna happen. I'm sure it's gonna be delicious. With hargandass vanilla, it's great.

• 4:19Speaker 02

  Yeah, perfect, job done.

• 4:21Jessie Ware?

Let's talk about who we've got on the podcast.

• 4:23Speaker 02

Well, I'm very excited about him because I've admired him for so long. He is on the last leg. And probably one of the most popular podcasts you can imagine.

• 4:35Jessie Ware?

  Parenting Hell.

• 4:36Speaker 02

Parenting Hell, which started during Covid.

• 4:38Jessie Ware?

He's actually coming to us from whilst being on tour. It's a humongous tour, not my cup of tea. He's doing everywhere, I think until like May 2026. Josh Whittaker coming up on Take My Eyes.

• 4:58Jessie Ware?

  Josh Whittaker, you are here.

• 5:00Speaker 03

  I'm here at last.

• 5:01Jessie Ware?

  I'd call that a schlep.

• 5:03Speaker 02

  A schlep.

• 5:03Speaker 03

  I know, I left London.

• 5:06Jessie Ware?

  London?

• 5:07Speaker 03

  I quit London.

• 5:08Jessie Ware?

  Oh, okay.

• 5:08Speaker 03

  Last Wednesday.

• 5:10Jessie Ware?

  Forever.

• 5:11Speaker 03

Forever. Well, not maybe forever, you never know what will happen.

• 5:14Jessie Ware?

And that was East London, wasn't it?

• 5:16Speaker 03

That was East London, this is South East.

• 5:17Jessie Ware?

And then we've brought you back to this hell.

• 5:20Speaker 03

Well, no, I was already coming back.

• 5:22Jessie Ware?

  But.

• 5:23Speaker 03

Do you know what, in the cab, I was thinking, I've made the right decision.

• 5:25Jessie Ware?

Oh, you're feeling a bit smug today.

• 5:28Speaker 03

No, not smug, no, because the train from Exeter was, the first one was cancelled. So we've got to take that.

• 5:34Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 5:35Speaker 03

  Got to take that.

• 5:36Jessie Ware?

  Which one is it?

• 5:37Speaker 02

  Great Western.

• 5:38Speaker 03

  Great Western, it's Great Western.

• 5:39Jessie Ware?

  Fucking great.

• 5:40Speaker 03

Well, tell me, let me tell you about Great Western.

• 5:42Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, let's do this.

• 5:43Speaker 03

Uh, they said they don't do sparkling water anymore.

• 5:47Jessie Ware?

  Why?

• 5:48Speaker 03

And then, get this, get this.

• 5:49Jessie Ware?

  Why is that?

• 5:50Speaker 03

So get this, I was, I was, I had a first class ticket, but I sat in economy.

• 5:54Jessie Ware?

  Why?

• 5:55Speaker 03

Because there was, it was full in first class.

• 5:57Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 5:59Speaker 03

And the woman came past and she was like, I said, can I have a sparkling water? She said, we've only got still.

• 6:05Jessie Ware?

Did you say I was meant to be in first?

• 6:06Speaker 03

  No, I didn't.

• 6:07Jessie Ware?

  Okay, you didn't.

• 6:07Speaker 03

But then later on, I was like, I'm going to go get a tea from first, for free.

• 6:11Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 6:12Speaker 03

And what was in there? What could I see with my little eyes?

• 6:14Jessie Ware?

  What?

• 6:15Speaker 03

  Sparkling waters.

• 6:18Jessie Ware?

So. Did you get a name?

• 6:20Speaker 03

No, but I got a sparkling water, two of them, two of them.

• 6:24Speaker 02

But why didn't you sit in first?

• 6:26Speaker 03

So I had the options between, well, I don't know, you've bought the first class ticket, then you're sitting in economy, I'm a man. The first class ones were full enough that I'd had to sit next to someone else and I'd rather sit with two for myself.

• 6:40Speaker 02

  Would you?

• 6:41Speaker 03

  Yeah, I would, yeah.

• 6:42Speaker 02

  No, I'd like the service.

• 6:43Speaker 03

  Would you?

• 6:44Speaker 02

  Yeah, the sparkling water.

• 6:45Speaker 03

  You'd like the sparkling water.

• 6:46Jessie Ware?

  She likes the chat.

• 6:47Speaker 02

  I like the sparkling water.

• 6:48Speaker 03

She likes the chat, that's why I don't like to sit with people.

• 6:51Jessie Ware?

Do you find that people are like, oh, Josh, let's have a laugh? And then you feel you have to entertain them?

• 6:57Speaker 03

Headphones in very quickly. Yeah. Do you not do that?

• 7:01Speaker 02

  No.

• 7:02Speaker 03

  No.

• 7:03Speaker 02

I don't like AirPods. You put AirPods in.

• 7:06Jessie Ware?

  AirPods, yeah.

• 7:07Speaker 02

But Jessie virtually wears them all the time, even when she's with me, so she doesn't have to communicate.

• 7:12Jessie Ware?

  Josh, have you actually eaten?

• 7:14Speaker 03

  No, because I was.

• 7:15Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 7:15Speaker 03

  I had a banana.

• 7:17Jessie Ware?

Okay, so can I explain what happened?

• 7:18Speaker 03

  Yeah, I know, I'm sorry.

• 7:19Jessie Ware?

No, no, no, no, no. It's kind of okay because now I have to say sorry to you. So.

• 7:25Speaker 03

  Thankfully.

• 7:26Jessie Ware?

  Mum comes in.

• 7:27Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 7:28Jessie Ware?

And I say, so mum, you're making that soup, right? And she went.

• 7:33Speaker 03

  Oh, no.

• 7:33Jessie Ware?

No, you're making, you're making dinner. And I said, no, I'm not. No, I've made something, but it's been a bit of a situation of trying to find something in my house.

• 7:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 7:44Jessie Ware?

But I think it will be okay.

• 7:45Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 7:46Jessie Ware?

  It's, um, we're having.

• 7:47Speaker 03

It's my kind of ready, steady cook situation.

• 7:49Jessie Ware?

It's a little bit like the.

• 7:50Speaker 02

  The invention test.

• 7:51Jessie Ware?

  The invention test, okay?

• 7:53Speaker 02

  Here's the ingredients.

• 7:55Jessie Ware?

This has never happened on the podcast, ever.

• 7:57Speaker 03

  Okay, great.

• 7:57Jessie Ware?

And I was prepared to get a takeaway, but thank God we didn't do that because.

• 8:00Speaker 03

  So who did do it?

• 8:02Jessie Ware?

I made it with a little help from my friends. I didn't help at all. Lenny just sat there and went, no darling, no.

• 8:09Speaker 02

  I didn't check and talk. I didn't do anything.

• 8:11Jessie Ware?

So, so we do have a meal for you.

• 8:14Speaker 03

  Okay, great.

• 8:15Jessie Ware?

And I think it's gonna be nice.

• 8:16Speaker 03

  I'm looking forward to it.

• 8:17Jessie Ware?

  You're vegetarian, aren't you?

• 8:19Speaker 02

How long have you been vegetarian?

• 8:20Speaker 03

  My whole life.

• 8:21Speaker 02

  Oh, you were brought up.

• 8:22Speaker 03

  I was brought up veggie.

• 8:23Speaker 02

  Have you got veggie parents?

• 8:24Speaker 03

  I've got veggie parents.

• 8:26Speaker 02

  Did they have veggie parents?

• 8:28Speaker 03

  No, but they were.

• 8:29Speaker 02

  Genetic?

• 8:30Speaker 03

  It's not.

• 8:32Jessie Ware?

Stop, mum. You know you piss them off so much. Stop it.

• 8:36Speaker 02

No, but I, no, I'm not. I just wondered.

• 8:38Speaker 03

  So I'm not, I like, I'm not.

• 8:39Speaker 02

  So you've never tasted meat?

• 8:41Speaker 03

Yeah, I have mistakenly or various situations. I once mistakenly ate a steak subway, like I picked up the wrong one.

• 8:50Speaker 02

Oh, my God. Did you like it?

• 8:52Speaker 03

Well, I was so drunk that I didn't really notice. I was in Brazil and it was like 3am and we got given the tour and I picked up the wrong one. And then I was, at the end, I was like, I didn't order cheese sauce. Because I just thought it was some kind of fake meat patty, do you know what I mean?

• 9:09Speaker 02

Yeah, and are your children veggies?

• 9:11Speaker 03

  No.

• 9:12Speaker 02

  Oh, interesting.

• 9:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:15Speaker 02

So who cooks the meat for them?

• 9:17Speaker 03

Oh, I could, my wife probably, but I'd put her, I wouldn't roast a chicken.

• 9:23Speaker 02

  Is she vegetarian?

• 9:25Speaker 03

No, but she's kind of, she's a veggie by default.

• 9:28Speaker 02

And now you've moved down, back down to Devon?

• 9:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:32Speaker 02

Is it like countryside and you're going to keep chickens and goats? Oh, okay.

• 9:36Speaker 03

  Yeah, so it's.

• 9:37Speaker 02

That's a cool place to live.

• 9:38Speaker 03

  It's quite nice, actually.

• 9:40Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:40Speaker 03

I met a man this morning, he was a hacker.

• 9:42Jessie Ware?

  What, like a computer hacker?

• 9:44Speaker 02

  Was he like?

• 9:45Jessie Ware?

  Like Johnny Lee Miller?

• 9:47Speaker 02

The one that did Marks and Spencer's over, maybe?

• 9:52Speaker 03

  No.

• 9:52Speaker 02

  Well, I'd kill him.

• 9:53Speaker 03

He was a hacker and then he became, you know, like.

• 9:57Speaker 02

  Kosher.

• 9:58Speaker 03

He became kosher, he works for Amazon now. So, because they, they employ hackers.

• 10:04Jessie Ware?

Still, I'm sorry, when did you manage to have this conversation when you had your earpods in?

• 10:09Speaker 03

In Starbucks at Exeter St David's Station.

• 10:12Jessie Ware?

But like, when you, oh, when the train was delayed?

• 10:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:15Speaker 02

  How did he introduce himself?

• 10:16Speaker 03

He was a dad at my daughter's, he's a dad at the school my daughter's just gone to.

• 10:21Speaker 02

  So you said hi.

• 10:22Speaker 03

And he came, oh, I didn't, he came over to me and he was like, oh, you're at the coffee morning.

• 10:27Speaker 02

  Oh, wow.

• 10:28Speaker 03

Yeah, and I was like, I'd been keeping my head down at the coffee morning.

• 10:31Speaker 02

  Have you?

• 10:32Speaker 03

I didn't want to go to the coffee morning.

• 10:34Speaker 02

You've got to commune with people.

• 10:35Speaker 03

I know, do I have to?

• 10:37Speaker 02

  Yeah, they, you're not gonna.

• 10:38Jessie Ware?

You know what I think? I think you make a really big effort at the beginning and then you can pull back.

• 10:43Speaker 03

Do you know there's been no WhatsApp group so far?

• 10:45Jessie Ware?

  What?

• 10:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:47Jessie Ware?

Your wife is on them, you're just happy.

• 10:48Speaker 02

No, you've probably been excluded because they know you're not keen and you won't get invited to the cheese and wine parties.

• 10:54Speaker 03

  Fine with that.

• 10:55Speaker 02

Yeah, and you won't be manning the bar as Jesse did, yeah.

• 10:59Speaker 03

  Did you man the bar?

• 11:00Speaker 02

  Yeah, and got drunk.

• 11:01Jessie Ware?

Joe Brown told me to get involved and then people. No, no, I'm not, but she was on the podcast years ago.

• 11:08Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 11:09Jessie Ware?

And she just said, get involved and then people will be less interested in you.

• 11:12Speaker 03

I got involved at the last school, I did the cake stall in summer.

• 11:15Speaker 02

  Did you?

• 11:16Speaker 03

Yeah, because the year before I did Coconut Shine, it was a fucking nightmare. Sorry to swear.

• 11:20Speaker 02

  It would be.

• 11:21Speaker 03

  It was awful.

• 11:22Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 11:22Speaker 03

  It was blazing sun.

• 11:24Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 11:24Speaker 03

There was kids lying that they'd paid to do the Coconut Shine when they hadn't. You're basically having to referee children.

• 11:31Speaker 02

And talk about their moral standing when they're lying.

• 11:35Speaker 03

Well, right, so you've got a bucket of coins next, like tokens. And then when you turn to the Coconut Shine, they're like, I've already put mine in. You're like, what can you do?

• 11:43Speaker 02

  Oh, my god, you could.

• 11:45Speaker 03

Well, you could, but what if they have? What if they have?

• 11:50Speaker 02

But didn't your daughter point out, oh, he's a liar. Don't trust him, dad.

• 11:54Speaker 03

Well, she was nowhere near the coconut. She just wanted to be near me, does she?

• 11:57Speaker 02

I want to know, you were a sports writer first.

• 12:02Speaker 03

  Ish.

• 12:02Speaker 02

Ish. Because I never saw your byline in The Guardian.

• 12:06Speaker 03

  No.

• 12:06Speaker 02

  To be perfectly hon- honest.

• 12:09Speaker 03

I never made it into print.

• 12:11Speaker 02

Oh, you never made it into print. What does that? So where did you make it?

• 12:15Speaker 03

  The website.

• 12:16Speaker 02

Oh, you did The Guardian online?

• 12:18Speaker 03

Yeah, so I was there when they combined them.

• 12:21Speaker 02

And what was your primary sport?

• 12:23Speaker 03

  Well, I got that.

• 12:26Speaker 02

  From Manchester, having done linguistics.

• 12:28Speaker 03

There we go, someone's, someone's done our research. Here we go, I'm very excited about this.

• 12:33Jessie Ware?

  God, I don't know. Well.

• 12:34Speaker 03

Well, that looks lovely. That looks great.

• 12:36Jessie Ware?

  It's definitely vegetarian.

• 12:38Speaker 03

  That's great.

• 12:38Jessie Ware?

  And it's seasonal.

• 12:40Speaker 03

  Seasonal, perfect. They're dill.

• 12:42Jessie Ware?

And then we've also got, to, to remind you of East London, an Anna Jones wedge salad.

• 12:48Speaker 03

I thought you said Alid Jones.

• 12:51Jessie Ware?

Okay, yeah, is it from East London?

• 12:53Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's from Wales, darling.

• 12:55Speaker 03

Anna Jones, yeah, I remember her well. Her daughter or son went to my, uh, the same nursery as.

• 13:01Jessie Ware?

  Oh, really?

• 13:02Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 13:02Jessie Ware?

And then, yeah, and then we've just got some bread, so it's gonna be like a bit kind of like. Yeah, is this all right? Okay.

• 13:08Speaker 03

  This is great.

• 13:09Jessie Ware?

  Then we've got crumble for.

• 13:10Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 13:11Jessie Ware?

  Okay, great.

• 13:11Speaker 03

  Seasonal.

• 13:12Speaker 02

So which particular sport were you?

• 13:15Speaker 03

Not really. I like football and I thought I liked cricket.

• 13:18Speaker 02

So you did cover any sport?

• 13:21Speaker 03

Well, I got there. I kind of stumbled into the job.

• 13:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 13:25Speaker 03

I wasn't intending to do it.

• 13:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 13:28Speaker 03

Really. I was just stumbling around trying to find a career.

• 13:31Jessie Ware?

  Help yourself.

• 13:32Speaker 02

And you know it had been called the Manchester Guardian?

• 13:34Speaker 03

Of course it did, but it had moved to London. Such a shame. And then, um. I got a job before that on children's magazines.

• 13:42Speaker 02

  Oh, wow. Which ones?

• 13:44Speaker 03

  Dora the Explorer.

• 13:45Speaker 02

  Dora the Explorer.

• 13:47Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. So I moved to London. I wanted a job and I wanted to be a writer of some sort. And that job came up as like an editorial assistant on those magazines and.

• 14:01Speaker 02

  Who published them?

• 14:02Speaker 03

  John Brown Publishing.

• 14:04Speaker 02

Okay, and they did all the children's magazines?

• 14:06Speaker 03

So they did Mr. Bean. I did a bit of work on Mr. Bean, a bit of work on Angelina Ballerina.

• 14:10Speaker 02

  Oh, Angelina Ballerina, Jesse.

• 14:16Speaker 03

  It's impressive, isn't it?

• 14:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 14:18Speaker 03

That is lovely. That is so nice.

• 14:20Speaker 02

  Delicious.

• 14:21Speaker 03

  Worth the journey.

• 14:22Speaker 02

So do you kind of tell jokes at dinner parties?

• 14:26Speaker 03

No, we don't go to dinner parties. This is it for me. No, we don't. We've got text groups. It's heavily WhatsApp based friendship.

• 14:35Speaker 02

Do you do you tell new jokes and test out jokes and things?

• 14:39Speaker 03

  No, you never try material.

• 14:41Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 14:42Jessie Ware?

  Right, semi?

• 14:44Speaker 03

  No. Would you?

• 14:47Jessie Ware?

Is it like, oh, is it just a really like depressing WhatsApp group?

• 14:50Speaker 03

No, it's not. No, no, but you'd like. Do you wanna know what most things that are going around? And I'd be interested to whether musicians have the same.

• 14:58Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 14:59Speaker 03

  Ninety percent.

• 15:00Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 15:01Speaker 03

Of stuff on comedians WhatsApp groups.

• 15:03Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 15:04Speaker 03

  Is screen grabs.

• 15:06Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 15:06Speaker 03

Social media of other comedians that you don't respect.

• 15:11Jessie Ware?

Oh, that's so shit. You're shit talking about other people.

• 15:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 15:15Jessie Ware?

And liking the demise of certain.

• 15:17Speaker 03

No, not the demise, just like.

• 15:18Jessie Ware?

  That was shit.

• 15:19Speaker 03

No, not like, so like, not their TV, no, not, it's like people who are putting bad comedy on Instagram. Look at this.

• 15:29Jessie Ware?

Oh, you're like, you're like, kind of, you're like the pitchfork. You're like a pitchfork.

• 15:35Speaker 03

No, no, we're not. We're just, I, come on, tell me that you're not, it's just, it's just bitching. It's just bitching. It's the same as every office.

• 15:42Jessie Ware?

Actually, you're not bitching. So, Josh, just start thinking about what your last supper would be.

• 15:48Speaker 03

  Yep, fine.

• 15:48Jessie Ware?

But just wanna paint a picture of your childhood and food memories. You grew up in Devon.

• 15:56Speaker 03

  Dartmoor, yeah.

• 15:58Jessie Ware?

Who was around the dinner table and what's a really memorable dish?

• 16:01Speaker 03

So me and my mum and my dad.

• 16:04Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 16:05Speaker 03

But then my gran, my mum's mum, lived in the other half of the house.

• 16:11Jessie Ware?

  Oh, nice.

• 16:12Speaker 02

  You see, Jessie?

• 16:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:13Jessie Ware?

  Oh, no.

• 16:14Speaker 03

I looked that way, I looked that way when I said it.

• 16:17Jessie Ware?

I've offered you the basement, you don't want it.

• 16:19Speaker 02

Going to a basement, I'm going in a penthouse.

• 16:23Speaker 03

So we moved to Devon when I was three and a half, and my gran had a house in Ealing, West London.

• 16:33Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 16:33Speaker 03

And she sold that to move down with us. That kind of paid for us to move down there, and then she got half the house and we got half the house.

• 16:40Jessie Ware?

Yeah. So granny lived on the other wing, on the other side.

• 16:45Speaker 03

  Other side, other half.

• 16:46Jessie Ware?

And, and was she a good cook?

• 16:49Speaker 03

  So, no, she would, no.

• 16:53Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 16:54Speaker 03

She, she was a retired actress or actor.

• 16:57Jessie Ware?

  She sounds bad.

• 16:58Speaker 03

Yeah, she was, she was incredible. She was kind of obsessed with, still obsessed with her figure and stuff, so she'd eat lean cuisine, ready meals.

• 17:06Speaker 02

  Oh, my god.

• 17:10Speaker 03

Which I don't know if you can still get them, but they were like.

• 17:13Jessie Ware?

I haven't heard that for a very long time.

• 17:14Speaker 03

  Yeah, I know, I know.

• 17:15Speaker 02

  Lean cuisine.

• 17:16Speaker 03

Have you ever had a lean cuisine?

• 17:17Speaker 02

  No.

• 17:18Jessie Ware?

But you would, like, you did every diet, though.

• 17:21Speaker 02

  I've done every diet.

• 17:22Jessie Ware?

  But not lean cuisine.

• 17:23Speaker 03

You didn't do lean cuisine. I think they were just bad, low calorie ready meals.

• 17:27Speaker 02

But they were also very small.

• 17:29Speaker 03

Yes, yeah. So she wouldn't go, we'd eat separately to her.

• 17:34Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 17:35Speaker 03

We wouldn't all sit down with four lean cuisines.

• 17:37Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 17:37Speaker 03

But my parents were vegetarian, they were, still are, old hippies. And so we were having like organics and whole foods before.

• 17:49Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 17:49Speaker 03

  It was fashionable.

• 17:51Jessie Ware?

  Mm-hmm.

• 17:51Speaker 03

Or, but at an age when, when you don't want to be that kid. Because also you're not like, this is the coming thing, guys, hold on, because you'll all be eating brown flour before you know it. You'll all be home breaking your, you know, brown bread or tofu. I was eating tofu way before.

• 18:10Speaker 02

So Totnes must have been Zanna do for you.

• 18:13Speaker 03

It was close to Totnes. So my dad's currently still, he runs a stall on Totnes Market.

• 18:17Speaker 02

  Does he? Selling?

• 18:19Speaker 03

  Antique tools.

• 18:21Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 18:21Speaker 02

  Oh, wow.

• 18:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 18:22Jessie Ware?

So you were growing up on lots of whole foods and beans, a bit like something like this, maybe?

• 18:28Speaker 03

Yeah, so you'd be like. Tofu.

• 18:31Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 18:32Speaker 03

  Potatoes, greens, or dal.

• 18:36Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 18:36Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 18:38Speaker 03

  Not fam?

• 18:39Jessie Ware?

I love it. Did your friends like the food?

• 18:42Speaker 03

Hippy stew is one of the things.

• 18:43Jessie Ware?

  Hippy stew?

• 18:44Speaker 03

  Hippy stew.

• 18:45Jessie Ware?

  Is that another thing?

• 18:46Speaker 03

No, that's that is what that is a thing.

• 18:48Jessie Ware?

  That's not dal?

• 18:49Speaker 03

  No, it's not dal.

• 18:50Jessie Ware?

  What's a hippie stew?

• 18:51Speaker 03

That makes dal feel so exciting.

• 18:53Jessie Ware?

  What's a hippie stew?

• 18:54Speaker 03

  It's just.

• 18:55Jessie Ware?

  Like a ratatouille?

• 18:56Speaker 03

No, it's just veg in a stew, really. It's just veg. It's just greeny, browny veg.

• 19:07Jessie Ware?

Okay. So there's no Findus crispy pancakes for you?

• 19:10Speaker 03

No, I, do you know what? I don't think I've ever had a Findus crispy pancake. So that was what we were having for dinner.

• 19:16Jessie Ware?

If it was a party or birthday, a celebration, what was that?

• 19:19Speaker 03

There wasn't a hard, yeah, there wasn't a hard like, so I was having sweets and chocolate and still stuff. It wasn't like a, you don't have that. But it was like a, this is what's dinner.

• 19:29Jessie Ware?

  Did you have packed lunch?

• 19:30Speaker 03

Yeah, I did have packed lunch.

• 19:32Jessie Ware?

What was your packed lunch then? Was it like just cheese sandwich?

• 19:34Speaker 03

So it would be the, the sandwich would be, this was at primary school.

• 19:37Jessie Ware?

  Mm hmm.

• 19:38Speaker 03

Secondary school, I got a pound for lunch, which felt just incredible. So primary school, sandwich.

• 19:44Jessie Ware?

  Mm hmm.

• 19:45Speaker 03

Which was made with the bread my dad had baked. Thank you.

• 19:48Jessie Ware?

Oh my god, this is so wholesome and lovely.

• 19:49Speaker 03

I know, but you don't want wholesome and lovely.

• 19:52Jessie Ware?

  Were you resentful?

• 19:53Speaker 03

  I don't think I, no, I don't think I'd got the, you know, when you're a kid.

• 19:58Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 19:58Speaker 03

  You don't understand what's different.

• 20:00Jessie Ware?

  Mm hmm.

• 20:00Speaker 03

Uh, till you get till about ten or something. So this was happening, you're eight, it just is. Do you know what I mean?

• 20:06Jessie Ware?

You weren't peeking in other people's lunchbox.

• 20:09Speaker 03

I remember a family, the Tyleys.

• 20:12Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 20:12Speaker 03

And they were getting five pieces of chocolate, separate. And I just thought, you've got the best mum in the world.

• 20:20Jessie Ware?

  The best mum.

• 20:21Speaker 03

So they would get a club, a penguin, a five, four, three, two, one, a wagon wheel and a gold bar. And you'd be like, these, this is how to live.

• 20:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 20:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:32Speaker 02

Wagon wheel and a gold bar.

• 20:34Speaker 03

I know. Looking back, they must have been absolutely buzzing off their tits come second.

• 20:40Speaker 02

  But they're probably very alert.

• 20:41Speaker 03

Yeah, exactly. The crash must have been unbelievable at four P M. But then the mum comes and picks them up, they're knackered.

• 20:47Speaker 02

  And they're happy, aren't they?

• 20:50Jessie Ware?

But you're a parent and you have your brilliant podcast, Parenting Hell, and you know what it's like when kids come over for dinner.

• 20:58Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:58Jessie Ware?

And everyone has different requirements and my kids have that too. And they're a pain in the arse.

• 21:03Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:04Jessie Ware?

When people used to come over to your house for play dates, was, would your mum like, switch it up a bit? Or were people pretty, like in Devon, everyone was kind of on the hippie stew?

• 21:15Speaker 03

They wouldn't switch it up, but.

• 21:17Jessie Ware?

No one carried on coming over.

• 21:21Speaker 03

  I.

• 21:22Speaker 02

There was no veggie nuggets. Oh, you could have had pizza, I suppose.

• 21:25Speaker 03

We did have pizza, do you know, but it was the worst pizza. You know, the pizza, well, it felt amazing then. But you know the pizza you get at the, the back of the supermarket that's made? No, no, no.

• 21:37Jessie Ware?

Oh, no, I love them. I love them. The Fiorina, I love it.

• 21:40Speaker 03

  I hate a Doctor Oka.

• 21:42Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, right.

• 21:43Speaker 03

But you might be sponsored by them.

• 21:46Speaker 02

  We're not.

• 21:47Speaker 03

Costa de Molocas are on now. That's the best.

• 21:49Speaker 02

Oh, custom, yeah, they're great, yeah.

• 21:52Jessie Ware?

Do you want some more, Josh?

• 21:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, I do, actually.

• 21:54Speaker 02

  Oh, good.

• 21:55Jessie Ware?

  No, it's great.

• 21:58Jessie Ware?

Let's talk about, go on, sorry, Mum.

• 22:00Speaker 02

I just wondered, is it fun on the last leg?

• 22:04Speaker 03

  Um, yes.

• 22:05Speaker 02

Cause I would love, I loved you all on that.

• 22:08Speaker 03

  Do you?

• 22:08Speaker 02

Yeah, I think it's one of my favourite Friday nights.

• 22:11Speaker 03

  Rank us.

• 22:12Speaker 02

  Obviously, you're number one.

• 22:13Speaker 03

  No.

• 22:14Jessie Ware?

Hang on, Mum, but you've always had a little penchant for Adam.

• 22:17Speaker 03

Have you? Do you realise he had him here?

• 22:19Speaker 02

  I do. I think he's terribly funny.

• 22:21Speaker 03

  Do you?

• 22:21Speaker 02

Yeah. And I think he's so self-effacing and so funny about his disability.

• 22:27Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 22:28Speaker 02

  That's, he just.

• 22:29Speaker 03

  I think.

• 22:29Speaker 02

  Yeah, he's just such fun.

• 22:31Speaker 03

It's easy for me to forget, because we've been doing it for thirteen years.

• 22:35Speaker 02

How many seasons now? Like thirty or something? That's crazy.

• 22:39Speaker 03

  It's mad, isn't it?

• 22:40Jessie Ware?

  Were you like put together?

• 22:42Speaker 03

So I tell you what happened.

• 22:43Jessie Ware?

Because it really works. You really work well together, like it's.

• 22:46Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 22:46Speaker 03

  It's total luck. It's like.

• 22:48Speaker 02

  Kismet.

• 22:49Speaker 03

  The Paralympics came to London.

• 22:50Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 22:51Speaker 03

You know when you think about those things that if they'd been different, your whole life would be different? So even to the point where you're like, London wasn't meant to get those Olympics. That was meant to go to Paris.

• 23:01Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 23:02Speaker 03

And it was like this real upset. And then Channel Four suddenly had the Paralympics in London.

• 23:08Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:08Speaker 03

So they were like, we'll do a, like a switch over show, or whatever they're called, on E4. And then it, they got Adam, because he's spoken about his disability to host it. And then they needed a comedian that knew about sport. And they asked me and they were like, do you want to do this show? It's about, it's a comedy about disabled sport. I was like, um.

• 23:34Speaker 03

  Can you imagine?

• 23:35Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 23:35Speaker 03

And then they were like, no, no, it's really positive and, you know, and I, and they were basically like, look, it's ten nights, no one's gonna watch it. That's, that was the implication of the producer. It's on E4. No one's gonna watch it. You get to go to the Paralympics. Why not?

• 23:52Speaker 02

  Mm.

• 23:52Speaker 03

And then Alex won a presenter search on, they did like a disabled talent. It's called like Million Pound Search for a Star or something. You can still watch his video on YouTube, his, his, um, audition that he's filmed himself. And then he got put on the sport as one of their sports presenters. And then he got, they thought he was funny and they were like, I will just put him on one episode of The Last Lag. And then it worked, so they kept him on it. And he thought he was being like punished. Because he was like, why have I been taken off the main bit? I've been put on this other show.

• 24:26Speaker 02

So was he a bit like pissed off at the beginning?

• 24:28Speaker 03

Well, I don't think he really knew what was, he'd never been in TV. Like, he was like, what? And then it just kind of worked.

• 24:35Speaker 02

  Mm.

• 24:35Speaker 03

So then they turned it, what was a ten day job, has become like. First line of my obituary.

• 24:43Jessie Ware?

Let's talk about tour, not my cup of tea. You are doing the longest tour. I've, is this so you don't have to do the drop off or do any cake sales?

• 24:54Speaker 03

  Feel guilty about it.

• 24:55Jessie Ware?

  No, I'm joking.

• 24:56Speaker 03

  No, no.

• 24:56Jessie Ware?

Now I feel guilty making you feel guilty.

• 24:59Speaker 03

No, it's not. It's because I enjoy the difficult bits writing the show.

• 25:04Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 25:06Speaker 03

And like, if you're like, if people come out and watch it.

• 25:08Jessie Ware?

  Of course.

• 25:09Speaker 03

That's like, you've just got to turn up and do it. It's fun.

• 25:12Jessie Ware?

  So how many dates altogether?

• 25:14Speaker 03

  There's about eighty so far.

• 25:16Jessie Ware?

  Eighty.

• 25:17Speaker 03

But they're not all together. They're not, it's like three months and then a break.

• 25:21Jessie Ware?

  Like Peter Kay.

• 25:23Speaker 03

  Well.

• 25:23Jessie Ware?

Like ten year, a ten year tour.

• 25:25Speaker 03

I was playing those venues, I'll tell you that's great. Yeah, but a lot of comedians do that because you can go to, because we can just turn up at theatres.

• 25:34Jessie Ware?

  I know.

• 25:35Speaker 03

I know I keep like comparing it to, but like music is, it's an absolute nightmare. That's over. Do you know what I have to pay for? Someone to drive me. Support.

• 25:47Jessie Ware?

  Sound.

• 25:47Speaker 03

  No, don't do those.

• 25:49Jessie Ware?

  Oh, you tight bastard.

• 25:51Speaker 03

  They come with a theatre.

• 25:52Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 25:53Speaker 03

You don't need clever lighting, it's done.

• 25:55Jessie Ware?

Do you get your tour manager to spotlight you?

• 25:57Speaker 03

  No, there's no spotlight.

• 25:58Jessie Ware?

  Do you have a backdrop?

• 26:00Speaker 03

I've got a go bo. Do you know what a go bo is?

• 26:02Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 26:03Speaker 03

So a go bo is just a thing that fits onto a light and then it projects like a, like Batman.

• 26:11Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 26:13Speaker 03

Like, you know, Batman into the, so it just looks like you've got a backdrop.

• 26:16Jessie Ware?

Oh, so it's like, Jessie, you've had something like that. Your name or we had table manners projected.

• 26:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:24Jessie Ware?

  On the back.

• 26:25Speaker 03

You've got yourself a go bo there, mate. So I've got that.

• 26:28Jessie Ware?

  Do you set that up?

• 26:29Speaker 03

  No.

• 26:30Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 26:32Jessie Ware?

  What's in your rider?

• 26:34Speaker 03

  Fizzy water.

• 26:35Jessie Ware?

Oh, yeah, just let me know when you're ready.

• 26:36Speaker 03

No, that's good. And I I got a load of free on the train and. See, fizzy water and tea.

• 26:44Speaker 02

Why is it called Not My Cup of Tea?

• 26:46Speaker 03

Because the truth is, I wanted something that didn't mean anything. And I've wanted something that was kind of quaintly British. I like that kind of.

• 26:57Jessie Ware?

Yeah, it's a good saying that, isn't it?

• 26:59Speaker 03

Yeah, and I like that kind of parochialism or that kind of Martin Parr or Alan Bennett or Blur or all that pulp. Or that kind of, that's my favoured aesthetic. So I was like, oh, I quite like that phrase because. It kind of connotes that kind of stuff. And I thought, I better be able to come up with loads of material about tea. And I haven't got any.

• 27:24Speaker 02

What is the theme? Is there a theme going through it?

• 27:27Speaker 03

  No.

• 27:27Speaker 02

  So it's not like, um.

• 27:29Speaker 03

  There is zero.

• 27:30Speaker 02

What's his name who talks about when he left his wife? Bishop?

• 27:34Speaker 03

  Tom Bishop?

• 27:34Speaker 02

  Yeah, when he.

• 27:35Speaker 03

  Did he leave his wife?

• 27:36Speaker 02

  No.

• 27:36Speaker 03

  What way to find out?

• 27:38Speaker 02

  No.

• 27:38Jessie Ware?

  Hang on, rewind.

• 27:40Speaker 02

But the whole thing started about when he's, they split up. And that's how he started comedy.

• 27:46Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 27:47Speaker 02

Because he was miserable because they'd split up. And then he has a theme mostly about his family.

• 27:53Speaker 03

Right, yeah, no, there's zero theme.

• 27:55Speaker 02

  No, no theme.

• 27:56Speaker 03

No theme. You will learn nothing.

• 27:58Speaker 02

Do you talk about your family?

• 28:00Speaker 03

  A bit.

• 28:00Jessie Ware?

Do you still get a little kind of breaking news in there or like?

• 28:04Speaker 03

  Zero.

• 28:04Jessie Ware?

  Political? No.

• 28:05Speaker 03

  No politics.

• 28:06Speaker 02

  No politic. Parenting?

• 28:08Speaker 03

  There's a bit about parenting.

• 28:10Speaker 02

I mean, that I would have thought that's why people are coming to see you.

• 28:13Jessie Ware?

Give me something, Josh. Give me something. There's no tea, there's no.

• 28:17Speaker 02

There doesn't sound as much going on.

• 28:19Jessie Ware?

What the fuck do you talk about for an hour? Nah.

• 28:22Speaker 03

  Hour twenty.

• 28:26Speaker 03

Go on, five minutes late, it's fine.

• 28:30Speaker 03

Do you do that trick? We go up at ten past and it'll feel like it's added on to the...

• 28:34Speaker 02

  What's there an interval?

• 28:35Speaker 03

There's an interval. Yeah, you can look forward to that.

• 28:37Speaker 02

Well, I think don't the venues make you have an interval? So they...

• 28:41Speaker 03

Well, I've never pushed back on it, so I don't know, but I think they probably do.

• 28:44Speaker 02

  Yeah, they do, I think.

That sounds great. Do you involve the audience?

• 29:09Speaker 03

Uh, I'll talk to the audience a bit at the top.

• 29:11Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 29:12Speaker 03

  Yeah, I will.

• 29:56Jessie Ware?

So before we have some crumble.

• 29:58Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:59Jessie Ware?

What would be on your last supper?

• 30:02Speaker 03

  So...

• 30:02Jessie Ware?

  Starter.

• 30:03Speaker 03

Starter, I would have... It's quite good, isn't it? Because you don't need to worry about getting really tired.

• 30:10Jessie Ware?

No, we don't need to worry about...

• 30:12Speaker 03

You don't really need to worry about the health effects.

• 30:13Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 30:15Speaker 02

  Gosh.

• 30:16Jessie Ware?

  Do what you want, Josh.

• 30:17Speaker 03

  Do what you want.

• 30:17Speaker 02

  Very serious.

• 30:19Speaker 03

  I am very serious. No.

• 30:22Speaker 03

Um, my starter, I would have burrata.

• 30:27Jessie Ware?

  Starter burrata.

• 30:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, it wasn't.

• 30:28Jessie Ware?

You're a poet and you don't know it.

• 30:30Speaker 02

Starter burrata. What would you put it with?

• 30:33Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 30:34Speaker 03

Do you know what? I think everything that comes with the burrata is distracting for the burrata.

• 30:39Jessie Ware?

  She's gonna have like.

• 30:40Speaker 03

Just a ball of burrata. Cause, cause in life, that's frowned upon, but now I'm popping my clubs.

• 30:47Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 30:49Speaker 02

But not bread or anything. So I don't like burrata.

• 30:53Speaker 03

  Do you not?

• 30:53Speaker 02

Kind of oozy and yeah, it's like a great big pimple and you put your finger in them.

• 30:59Speaker 03

  Oozy pimple.

• 31:00Speaker 02

  You do?

• 31:00Speaker 03

  I love it.

• 31:01Jessie Ware?

Okay, I, this is actually probably the wrong time to say this.

• 31:05Speaker 03

  You've got an oozy pimple.

• 31:06Jessie Ware?

No, I don't. I've had a few in the summer, but something that really relaxes me on TikTok is watching people get their lumps popped.

• 31:16Speaker 03

  I really.

• 31:17Jessie Ware?

  Oh my god.

• 31:18Speaker 03

  What are you typing in?

• 31:19Jessie Ware?

  I don't know. It's obviously found me.

• 31:21Speaker 03

  Oh, it's found you.

• 31:21Jessie Ware?

I'm not even following them, but I'm like, ah.

• 31:24Speaker 02

You mean it comes across as a reel on your Instagram?

• 31:27Jessie Ware?

  These blackheads out.

• 31:28Speaker 02

  Oh my god, Jessica.

• 31:29Jessie Ware?

  Oh my god.

• 31:31Speaker 02

  It's amazing, Josh.

• 31:33Speaker 03

Is that ADM? What's that thing called?

• 31:35Jessie Ware?

  ASMR.

• 31:35Speaker 03

  ASMR.

• 31:36Jessie Ware?

I'm not really listening to the sound. You like the visual.

• 31:39Speaker 02

  The visual is stunning.

• 31:40Jessie Ware?

  Oh my god.

• 31:41Speaker 03

Anyways, like some kind of weird.

• 31:43Jessie Ware?

  Is that weird?

• 31:44Speaker 02

  She's weird. She's kinky.

• 31:45Jessie Ware?

  Is it a kink?

• 31:46Speaker 03

  I don't know if it's a kink.

• 31:47Jessie Ware?

I'm gonna show it to you in a bit and just see if it gets you going.

• 31:50Speaker 03

  It won't get me going.

• 31:51Jessie Ware?

  It won't?

• 31:51Speaker 02

  Won't get me going.

• 31:52Jessie Ware?

  Satisfying.

• 31:53Speaker 02

  Make me feel sick.

• 31:54Speaker 03

  And are they commentating?

• 31:56Jessie Ware?

No, they're very in the zone. Like it's some Thai beauty seller. I don't know how they found me.

• 32:02Speaker 03

  Same place every time.

• 32:03Jessie Ware?

Yeah, they found me. I still am not following them because I feel like that's like it being a bit too like committing.

• 32:08Speaker 03

  But they know.

• 32:09Jessie Ware?

  They know.

• 32:09Speaker 03

China's government with their TikTok stats, they know where you're in.

• 32:13Jessie Ware?

They know, but if I carry on watching till the bitter end.

• 32:15Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:16Jessie Ware?

Anyway, so you'd have a burrata.

• 32:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:19Jessie Ware?

  Delicious.

• 32:20Speaker 03

  Pizza.

• 32:21Jessie Ware?

  Pizza.

• 32:21Speaker 03

  I love pizza.

• 32:22Jessie Ware?

  Where's your favourite pizza from?

• 32:26Speaker 02

No, I was just very interested.

• 32:27Speaker 03

  Oh, okay.

• 32:29Speaker 02

Do you go to Italy on holiday?

• 32:30Speaker 03

Uh, we got married in Italy.

• 32:32Speaker 02

  Oh, I know.

• 32:33Speaker 03

  We got married in Puglia.

• 32:33Speaker 02

  Do you have pizza?

• 32:34Speaker 03

No, Puglia's not really a pizza place.

• 32:37Jessie Ware?

  Isn't it?

• 32:37Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 32:38Speaker 03

  No.

• 32:38Jessie Ware?

  Was it gorgeous?

• 32:40Speaker 03

  Yeah, it was amazing.

• 32:40Jessie Ware?

Why did you decide on Puglia? Because you love Italian food or you go there a lot?

• 32:43Speaker 03

No, because we've been there a bit. We felt like we didn't want to get married in London, although we did get officially married in London, but we felt like

• 32:55Speaker 03

I don't want to put my foot in here in case this is where either of you had your wedding, but you know when you go to a wedding and you think, I don't think these people are connected with this place at all?

• 33:04Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:05Speaker 03

They've just chosen a kind of place.

• 33:07Speaker 02

  Destination wedding.

• 33:09Speaker 03

Yeah, but I thought, so we were like, let's just do something that feels like it's got an identity and it's like that, rather than come to this manor house in Hertfordshire where we've never been.

• 33:19Jessie Ware?

  I hear you.

• 33:20Speaker 03

  Does that make sense?

• 33:21Jessie Ware?

Yeah, I got married in Greece.

• 33:22Speaker 03

  You got married in Greece?

• 33:23Jessie Ware?

Yeah, where I've been going since I was little, so don't worry, there was no manor house.

• 33:26Speaker 03

  Where did you get married?

• 33:28Speaker 02

  Manchester.

• 33:29Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 33:31Speaker 02

Well, I did come from there.

• 33:32Speaker 03

  Did you?

• 33:33Speaker 02

Yeah, that's where I got married there.

• 33:34Speaker 03

  Which bit?

• 33:36Speaker 02

Really weirdly, it was Jackson's Row, which was opposite our synagogue.

• 33:42Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 33:43Speaker 02

  But.

• 33:44Jessie Ware?

But you didn't get married in the synagogue?

• 33:45Speaker 02

In the synagogue, no, I got married in the register office. And then we had the reception in my sister's back garden.

• 33:51Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 33:52Jessie Ware?

So we've got barata and pizza. Is there any pizza place that you want to give a shout out to?

• 33:56Speaker 03

Well, no, I suppose I shouldn't give a shout out to a major one.

• 34:01Speaker 02

  Well, you can do.

• 34:02Jessie Ware?

Why? Because you do small business shouts out to some parenting help?

• 34:05Speaker 03

No, just because I haven't played, but no, um, so I, uh, Franco Mancor was, which is now everywhere.

• 34:11Jessie Ware?

It's not so good anymore though, is it?

• 34:13Speaker 03

No, but when I, this sounds, I don't want to be like I saw. Cold play in front of ten people, but when I used to live in Brixton.

• 34:21Speaker 02

  Yeah, Franka Manka.

• 34:22Speaker 03

  On the market.

• 34:23Speaker 02

  Yeah, on the market.

• 34:24Speaker 03

  It was so good.

• 34:25Jessie Ware?

  It was amazing.

• 34:26Speaker 02

Do you think that's even associated with the main thing now?

• 34:29Speaker 03

Well, I don't know. Does it still exist?

• 34:31Speaker 02

Yeah, it's still there, Franka Manka, but I remember going there first and I couldn't believe the crust.

• 34:37Speaker 03

  It was so good.

• 34:37Speaker 02

It was light and it was just, it bubbled up, didn't it?

• 34:41Speaker 03

  Incredible.

• 34:42Speaker 02

  And then I can't.

• 34:43Jessie Ware?

Their salad dressing was great too, I remember.

• 34:44Speaker 03

  Their salad dressing.

• 34:45Speaker 02

But you sat in the market, yeah.

• 34:47Speaker 03

And they refused to serve tea or coffee with milk afterwards because they thought it affected your digestion.

• 34:55Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 34:56Speaker 03

Well, I like it when they're like that difficult, do you know what I mean?

• 34:59Speaker 02

They're like proper Italians, yeah. But I don't even know if it's the same thing.

• 35:05Speaker 03

So I don't know. I'd love to know the business inside out if someone could write in, but I hope they've made loads of money.

• 35:11Speaker 02

  So what's your toppings, darling?

• 35:13Speaker 03

  Uh, I'd go for chillies.

• 35:17Speaker 02

  You're kidding.

• 35:17Speaker 03

  I'm not.

• 35:18Speaker 02

Poor bugger can't have pepperoni, can he?

• 35:21Speaker 03

  They can't. Poor bugger can't.

• 35:23Speaker 02

  Poor bugger.

• 35:24Jessie Ware?

Stop mum. Mum just lost it out, five thousand people.

• 35:28Speaker 02

Do you get, if you're in Pizza Express, do you like the chili shit? Do you remember these?

• 35:33Speaker 03

Yeah, and I like chili oil.

• 35:34Jessie Ware?

  Mmm.

• 35:36Speaker 03

  I have, I love hot.

• 35:40Speaker 02

  You like hot sauce?

• 35:41Speaker 03

  I like everything hot.

• 35:42Speaker 02

Which is your best hot sauce?

• 35:43Speaker 03

I'm not, I prefer a really spicy curry or chillies on a pizza to a hot sauce.

• 35:48Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 35:49Speaker 03

But I love heat, which it took me years to find out because I presumed that I wouldn't because of what I'm like generally. Because I'm not.

• 36:00Speaker 02

You don't look like a hot sort of person.

• 36:02Speaker 03

They don't look like a hot sauce.

• 36:03Speaker 02

I wonder if it's the blonde hair?

• 36:05Speaker 03

I think it's because I'm not an elf. You expect it to be a kind of rugby bloke, don't you?

• 36:11Speaker 02

  No.

• 36:12Speaker 03

  Do you not?

• 36:12Speaker 02

  No. I think cowboy.

• 36:15Speaker 03

  Cowboy?

• 36:16Jessie Ware?

  Wow.

• 36:17Speaker 03

  Cowboy with the chili oil.

• 36:18Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:19Jessie Ware?

  Really?

• 36:20Speaker 02

Yeah, they like hot things, don't they?

• 36:22Jessie Ware?

How many cowboys have you fucking spoken to?

• 36:24Speaker 02

Branding people and things like that, I don't.

• 36:28Speaker 03

  Like the Marlborough man?

• 36:29Speaker 02

  Yeah, exactly that.

• 36:31Jessie Ware?

It was a cigarette, it wasn't even the amount.

• 36:33Speaker 02

I just imagine you're more kind of.

• 36:35Speaker 03

  Hot cigarette though, isn't it?

• 36:35Speaker 02

  Rugged, yeah rugged, I suppose.

• 36:37Jessie Ware?

Okay, so you like hot, a hot pizza, are you gonna have any sides with that?

• 36:41Speaker 03

  No, waste of time.

• 36:42Jessie Ware?

Okay, I saw you with that salad, I actually had to shove it on your plate.

• 36:46Speaker 03

No, no, I did enjoy the.

• 36:47Jessie Ware?

You did enjoy, but I did have to tell you.

• 36:48Speaker 03

No, I was gonna say I did enjoy the frankamanka salad.

• 36:50Jessie Ware?

  I did too.

• 36:51Speaker 02

How many pizzas could you eat, do you think?

• 36:54Speaker 03

  Great question.

• 36:55Speaker 02

Do you think you'd have more than one?

• 36:56Speaker 03

I suppose, yeah, I could, I always get to the end and think I could go again.

• 37:00Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:01Speaker 03

But, have you ever been to Pizza Hut buffet? I can't imagine you have.

• 37:04Jessie Ware?

  Not for a long time.

• 37:06Speaker 02

A long time ago I used to go.

• 37:07Jessie Ware?

  Stretton, Stretton High Road.

• 37:08Speaker 02

Used to be the highlight of your brother's life.

• 37:11Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, when they had.

• 37:12Speaker 02

The pizza hut and the ice cream as much as you could eat with sprinkles.

• 37:16Speaker 03

But you could never eat as much you actually thought you were gonna eat.

• 37:19Speaker 02

  That's why.

• 37:19Jessie Ware?

  That was very doughy though.

• 37:21Speaker 03

It was very doughy, probably still is.

• 37:23Jessie Ware?

Yeah. Okay, so we're doing that, and then drink of choice?

• 37:26Speaker 03

  Drink of choice, tea.

• 37:28Jessie Ware?

A tea, okay, how do you take your tea?

• 37:30Speaker 03

  Strong with milky.

• 37:32Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 37:32Speaker 03

  Does that make sense?

• 37:33Jessie Ware?

  So like.

• 37:33Speaker 02

Do you have a preferred tea, Yorkshire?

• 37:35Speaker 03

Just, it has to be bag in the mug.

• 37:40Speaker 02

  A long time.

• 37:41Speaker 03

  I don't want a pot, I hate a pot.

• 37:43Speaker 02

Do you leave the bag in while you're drinking the tea? Some people do. Oh, to give you a bit of a boost.

• 37:49Speaker 03

But no, I wouldn't do that, I think that's a bit extreme. If I'm driving.

• 37:52Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:53Speaker 03

I'll do that, cause I think.

• 37:56Speaker 03

That's, if you go to a service station, I'll think, I'll leave the bag in because I haven't got time to.

• 38:01Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 38:02Jessie Ware?

Are you only a tea drinker?

• 38:04Speaker 03

  Coffee sends me mental.

• 38:06Jessie Ware?

  Does it?

• 38:06Speaker 02

  Oh, what do you do?

• 38:08Speaker 03

  I get really, really high.

• 38:10Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 38:10Speaker 03

  And then really, really low.

• 38:12Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 38:13Speaker 03

  Yeah, and I used to.

• 38:15Speaker 02

  When did you discover that?

• 38:16Speaker 03

At uni, I was drinking six cups a day.

• 38:20Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 38:21Speaker 03

And it was really having an effect on me.

• 38:24Speaker 02

You couldn't live in Greece, darling.

• 38:26Speaker 03

Couldn't live in Greece, you're right, not just for those reasons.

• 38:28Speaker 02

  They drink it all day.

• 38:30Speaker 03

Well, I go to Greece on holiday and when you order tea by the pool, they look at you like you're scum.

• 38:36Speaker 02

  A bit weird, yeah.

• 38:37Speaker 03

  And they're right.

• 38:38Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 38:38Speaker 03

So I can only drink tea.

• 38:41Jessie Ware?

So pudding, have you got a sweet tooth?

• 38:44Speaker 03

  Cheesecake.

• 38:45Speaker 02

What, the Pizza Express cheesecake? Remember that one?

• 38:49Speaker 03

  I don't remember that one.

• 38:50Speaker 02

  It was so good.

• 38:51Speaker 03

  What was on that?

• 38:51Speaker 02

  Creamy.

• 38:53Speaker 03

  Oh, just a classic.

• 38:54Speaker 02

  Yeah, classic.

• 38:54Speaker 03

A classic, yeah. I, any cheesecake, really.

• 38:57Speaker 02

  Really?

• 38:58Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 38:58Speaker 02

  Topping, cherry?

• 39:00Speaker 03

No, not the one where they've got the sharp, you know, like cherry or sh- sharp fruit. I don't really want.

• 39:09Jessie Ware?

Shit, and I'm about to give you a fucking crumble.

• 39:11Speaker 03

  No, I like a crumble.

• 39:12Jessie Ware?

  Are you sure?

• 39:12Speaker 03

Have you got anything on it?

• 39:14Jessie Ware?

I've got cream and ice cream.

• 39:15Speaker 03

  Yeah, let's do it.

• 39:15Jessie Ware?

  Okay, fine. Is that okay?

• 39:18Speaker 03

That's great. I always still enjoy the cheesecake.

• 39:21Jessie Ware?

It's gonna be a bit sharp.

• 39:22Speaker 03

I know, I don't mind sharp. I'm just saying, if, if I'm about to die, I'll forego the sharp fruit.

• 39:27Jessie Ware?

  Okay, fair enough.

• 39:29Speaker 03

Having a nice afternoon with yous.

• 39:30Jessie Ware?

  Okay, great.

• 39:31Speaker 03

  Use with you guys.

• 39:32Jessie Ware?

  I'm gonna get the crumble.

• 39:33Speaker 02

  Yeah. You support Plymouth Argyle?

• 39:35Speaker 03

How do you retain this stuff? Have you got a, you're bored over there?

• 39:38Speaker 02

No, I can remember silly things.

• 39:41Speaker 03

  Okay, yeah.

• 39:41Speaker 02

Have you always supported them since you were little?

• 39:44Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 39:44Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 39:45Speaker 03

  So since I was eight?

• 39:47Speaker 02

Eight. And which division are you in?

• 39:49Speaker 03

  We're in League One.

• 39:51Speaker 02

  That's all right.

• 39:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, we're quite good.

• 39:52Speaker 02

I've got Salford City in that now.

• 39:54Speaker 03

  Quite possibly.

• 39:55Speaker 02

Yeah, because I think they've come up from it, yeah.

• 39:58Speaker 03

Do you like Salford City? Is that where you're from?

• 40:00Speaker 02

Yeah. I kind of watched them because all the, the boys from Man U bought it, didn't they?

• 40:06Speaker 03

Are you a Man U fan?

• 40:06Speaker 02

  Yeah, we are. Sadly.

• 40:08Speaker 03

  It's Jessie.

• 40:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:11Speaker 03

  And the sons? Your grandchildren?

• 40:13Speaker 02

No, they're Tottenham because their dad's Tottenham. Yeah. They love Tottenham.

• 40:18Jessie Ware?

I was worried there wasn't going to be enough crumble, but now I think I've overdone it.

• 40:23Speaker 02

  Overdone the crumble.

• 40:24Jessie Ware?

It's never a problem, is it, really?

• 40:25Speaker 03

  No, never.

• 40:26Jessie Ware?

Do you want a bit of ice cream and cream?

• 40:28Speaker 03

  Oh, go on then, yes.

• 40:29Speaker 02

Jessie's most comforting dish is ice cream with cream on.

• 40:34Speaker 03

Oh, do you ever go to, uh, the Lizard in Cornwall?

• 40:38Speaker 02

  No.

• 40:39Speaker 03

They've got a ice cream shop called Gelbutts and they only do vanilla and it's, and the

• 40:46Speaker 02

The best vanilla you've ever tasted.

• 40:47Speaker 03

You can have vanilla or you can have vanilla with a scoop of clotted cream on top.

• 40:52Jessie Ware?

Oh, wow. That is my heaven.

• 40:53Speaker 03

Yeah. It's incredible. I would highly recommend it.

• 40:57Speaker 02

Yeah. You must eat a lot of clotted cream where you're from. Is it kind of your staple every morning on your porridge?

• 41:05Speaker 03

Yeah, I get it. It's basically, it's like water coming out the taps. I, I try to avoid it. Not, not, no, I had a cream tea on Friday.

• 41:14Speaker 02

  Did you?

• 41:15Speaker 03

But it was my mum's birthday.

• 41:17Speaker 02

God, I've, I've, I've given you lots. So don't worry if you can't eat it.

• 41:21Speaker 03

I'm not gonna have to eat again today.

• 41:23Speaker 02

  This week, thank you.

• 41:25Jessie Ware?

So, oh, yes, you're having a lot.

• 41:27Speaker 02

He has cottage cream all the time, Jessie.

• 41:29Jessie Ware?

  I love cottage cream.

• 41:30Speaker 03

  It's so good.

• 41:31Jessie Ware?

But I do think I need a lactaid after it.

• 41:33Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 41:35Jessie Ware?

Now, listen, I have to apologize. My husband is really good at crumbles. And we've got all these beautiful fruit trees in the garden that we were trying to like, and it's all fruit, so it's from our garden.

• 41:44Speaker 03

  What a nice garden, eh?

• 41:45Jessie Ware?

  Thanks, mate.

• 41:47Speaker 03

For London, that is a great garden.

• 41:49Jessie Ware?

Anyway, loads and loads of fruit trees. My husband had made like the, he's really good. So I was like, great. He left skin on some of the apple and I'm just apologizing.

• 42:00Speaker 03

It's all right. It's lovely. It is lovely.

• 42:02Jessie Ware?

And then there's some plums in there too. I acknowledge that's not what you do with a crumble.

• 42:06Speaker 03

  That's great.

• 42:08Jessie Ware?

  But like, just.

• 42:09Speaker 03

But you're like my, my mother-in-law.

• 42:11Jessie Ware?

  Why?

• 42:12Speaker 03

Can't cook for us without apologizing for one thing that's wrong with every meal.

• 42:16Jessie Ware?

And then ruins it for everyone.

• 42:17Speaker 03

And you're like, can we just enjoy this without you pointing out your own failings?

• 42:21Jessie Ware?

If we were coming over to yours, what would be always in your fridge that we would be like, okay?

• 42:28Speaker 03

  Milk.

• 42:30Jessie Ware?

Must be a bit more imaginative than that, fucking hell.

• 42:32Speaker 03

Well, it's difficult. I try and keep a, a tight fridge.

• 42:35Jessie Ware?

Really? That's what my husband wants. I don't even want you to look in my fridge.

• 42:39Speaker 03

Cause I think the worst job in the house is getting rid of food. It feels so, I feel such deep guilt.

• 42:49Jessie Ware?

  You are like my husband.

• 42:50Speaker 03

Yeah, I, so I, I like to keep a tight, we were talking about football, manages to keep a small squad because they don't want the players on the outside missing out. I'd rather keep a tight.

• 43:02Jessie Ware?

And go to the shops five times in the day.

• 43:04Speaker 02

Have you got shops near you?

• 43:06Speaker 03

Yes, so about ten minute walk. So I'd rather do lots of small shops.

• 43:11Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 43:12Speaker 03

Cause also I work eve-, so if I'm working evenings.

• 43:16Jessie Ware?

  Hmm.

• 43:17Speaker 03

I can't do that thing where you're like, on Monday, we're gonna have a biryani, on Tuesday, we're gonna have pasta, on Wednesday, you're gonna have. So I'm existing moment to moment fridge wise.

• 43:27Jessie Ware?

My gorgeous neighbour, who I adore, she knows exactly what they're eating for the whole week. And I'm kind of envious of her because I think it's so amazing. But we are not those people.

• 43:39Speaker 03

But do you not go, I don't wanna eat that today. I, on Sunday, I thought I'd want fish pie. But now it's Thursday, I don't want fish pie, but there's a fish. And pie. Whatever that's made out of, pastry. And who's cleaning out the kit, the fridge?

• 43:57Jessie Ware?

  Not me.

• 44:00Jessie Ware?

To be honest, well, I'm certainly not. I create, I imagine, I do it all.

• 44:05Speaker 03

  You're an artist.

• 44:05Jessie Ware?

  I'm an artist.

• 44:06Speaker 03

You're an art, you've got an artistic temperament.

• 44:08Jessie Ware?

Yeah. Okay, so milk, that's, I, I think that's really interesting.

• 44:12Speaker 03

I, do, do many people answer that they keep a tight fridge?

• 44:15Jessie Ware?

But I like it. It's inspiring.

• 44:17Speaker 03

I don't want to waste stuff.

• 44:19Jessie Ware?

  Great expression.

• 44:21Speaker 03

But I some, I don't, I suppose it means I'm spending more time walking to the shops and back.

• 44:26Jessie Ware?

  Get your steps in.

• 44:27Speaker 03

I don't think I've done a big shop since. Since Gordon Brown was the Prime Minister.

• 44:33Jessie Ware?

Oh my god. But I do think you used to live in Hackney.

• 44:37Speaker 03

That's not a reflection on the two thousand eight crash.

• 44:41Jessie Ware?

But you do, in Hackney, you did have a lot of shops right by, you had that Palm Two.

• 44:47Speaker 03

No, that was Clapton, I'm, I'm Victoria Park.

• 44:50Jessie Ware?

Are you a Vicky pick? We had Lauriston Village then.

• 44:52Speaker 03

  Exactly.

• 44:52Jessie Ware?

Like you could just pop out.

• 44:54Speaker 03

You could just pop out, you could go to Village Organic. We've got a big Waitrose.

• 44:59Jessie Ware?

Okay, fine. You're gonna be okay.

• 45:01Speaker 03

So am I gonna go back to big shops? That's what all the talk on the streets about.

• 45:05Jessie Ware?

  Big shops.

• 45:06Speaker 03

Am I gonna, do you big shop?

• 45:08Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 45:09Speaker 03

And do you do it online or do you do it?

• 45:11Jessie Ware?

Online, but my fridge would have enough to feed.

• 45:16Speaker 02

Two dinner parties if I had to.

• 45:18Speaker 03

And you're not worried about wastage?

• 45:20Speaker 02

  No.

• 45:20Jessie Ware?

  She freezes it.

• 45:21Speaker 02

I freeze a lot of stuff here, I cook and freeze.

• 45:23Speaker 03

So my mother-in-law, who spends a lot of time at our house. And she, to be fair, and she is right, she's born in nineteen forty-five, so she's been created by post-war. Make, use everything, but she, our fridge, to tell you what is in it, is like. Two boiled potatoes in a bowl, or a tiny bit of pasta sauce in a bowl.

• 45:50Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 45:50Speaker 03

Or she puts espressos, she has to have an espresso in the house at all times, otherwise she panics. So she'll go and buy an espresso and then that'll be in the fridge.

• 46:00Jessie Ware?

  And she'll heat it up?

• 46:02Speaker 03

No, she'll just drink it straight, she's.

• 46:04Jessie Ware?

  From the fridge?

• 46:05Speaker 03

Yeah, like an iced espresso, she just has to have caffeine available at all times.

• 46:11Speaker 02

How many does she have a day?

• 46:13Speaker 03

Not that many, it's more that thing of knowing it's there if she wants it.

• 46:16Jessie Ware?

But don't you have an espresso maker? Or like a coffee maker?

• 46:20Speaker 03

Yeah, we do have a coffee maker.

• 46:21Jessie Ware?

  But she just needs it.

• 46:22Speaker 03

  Yeah, she just needs it.

• 46:23Jessie Ware?

  She sounds wild.

• 46:24Speaker 03

Like, like a junkie would need to have a.

• 46:27Speaker 02

So there's nothing in, so there's nothing there to eat, Lily. What are you going to do when your kids are teenagers?

• 46:34Speaker 03

Jars of, you know, you've got, so there is staples, there's your olives, your capers.

• 46:39Jessie Ware?

  Mm-hmm.

• 46:39Speaker 03

Yeah, obviously, your jams, your butters.

• 46:43Speaker 02

  Oh, but your kids are.

• 46:45Speaker 03

Yeah, lots of fruit, lots of berries.

• 46:47Speaker 02

Yeah, but your kids are going to be the ones to say, there's nothing to eat in the fridge, Dad.

• 46:51Speaker 03

  They're, they're right.

• 46:52Speaker 02

  They will.

• 46:52Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 46:53Speaker 03

And do you know what I'll say to them? There's nothing, there's nothing to throw in the bin, I keep a tight fridge.

• 46:58Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 46:58Speaker 02

  I keep a tight fridge.

• 46:59Speaker 03

  I keep a tight fridge.

• 47:01Jessie Ware?

Before we let you go, Josh.

• 47:02Speaker 02

I want to ask one thing.

• 47:03Speaker 03

  Go on.

• 47:04Speaker 02

  Karaoke song, Blur or Pulp?

• 47:07Speaker 03

  Pulp.

• 47:07Speaker 02

  Pulp.

• 47:08Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 47:08Speaker 03

How did you know that pulp would be?

• 47:10Jessie Ware?

Cause you mentioned you liked pulp.

• 47:12Speaker 02

  I thought you liked Blur.

• 47:13Jessie Ware?

He does, but he also said about pulp with that irreverent.

• 47:15Speaker 02

So which song would it be?

• 47:16Speaker 03

  People more.

• 47:18Speaker 02

  Which song?

• 47:19Speaker 03

It wouldn't be Common People, because I think that's too.

• 47:22Speaker 02

  Surprised, I have to say.

• 47:24Speaker 03

  Well, there you go.

• 47:25Jessie Ware?

  Yeah. Year three thousand.

• 47:26Speaker 02

  Full of surprises.

• 47:27Speaker 03

  Disco two thousand.

• 47:29Speaker 02

  Sorry.

• 47:29Speaker 03

  Year three thousand's busted.

• 47:35Speaker 02

Jessie, that is a big mistake.

• 47:40Speaker 03

What go to school for, is that the one?

• 47:43Jessie Ware?

I don't know, that came out. Oh, don't worry.

• 47:47Speaker 03

That's the one about how people always live underwater with gills, isn't it?

• 47:50Jessie Ware?

Let's all eat up in the, I do fucking know the song, Josh. I'm sorry. I said year three thousand, disco two thousand. Love Jarvis Cocker.

• 47:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:57Jessie Ware?

  Love.

• 47:57Speaker 03

He must have done this, hasn't he?

• 47:59Jessie Ware?

He hasn't, and now he never will.

• 48:00Speaker 03

  He'd be perfect for this.

• 48:01Jessie Ware?

  Why?

• 48:03Speaker 03

  Well, because he's kind of.

• 48:04Jessie Ware?

  Do you think?

• 48:05Speaker 03

  It's a bon vivant, isn't it?

• 48:06Speaker 02

We did have, we've had Noel.

• 48:08Speaker 03

  Have you?

• 48:09Jessie Ware?

We believe we were the reason they got back together, actually.

• 48:11Speaker 02

I asked him, I said, would you ever get back together? And he said, hell will freeze over.

• 48:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:17Speaker 02

And I said, you talk so fondly about our kid. He said, because he is our kid. Because he's younger.

• 48:25Jessie Ware?

A nostalgic taste that can transport you somewhere, please, Josh.

• 48:28Speaker 03

That's great. So it would be.

• 48:33Speaker 03

It would be a Wham! bar. Have you ever had a Wham! bar?

• 48:36Jessie Ware?

What Wham! is? Is it that one that's got like?

• 48:38Speaker 03

So it's, it's a pink bar and it had bits in it that were sour.

• 48:43Jessie Ware?

  Yes.

• 48:44Speaker 02

  I don't remember that.

• 48:45Jessie Ware?

  Delicious, delicious.

• 48:47Speaker 03

So they, they were great. They were ten P.

• 48:50Speaker 02

  Was it like nougat?

• 48:51Speaker 03

  No, it was like.

• 48:52Jessie Ware?

  Like a refresher.

• 48:54Speaker 03

Yeah, like, what is that called?

• 48:55Jessie Ware?

But like more stringy and more see-through.

• 48:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:58Speaker 02

Was it named after Wham? No, it wasn't named after George Michael, no.

• 49:02Speaker 03

No, the sprinkles were so sour.

• 49:05Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 49:06Speaker 03

So it would either be that, or I tell you the other one, which would just take me back to going to the sweet shop in the summer as a child, would be those five P ice pop, Mr. Frosties. And you'd bite.

• 49:19Speaker 02

  The blue one?

• 49:20Speaker 03

Yeah, blue raspberry. And you'd bite the top and the sides would cut your mouth.

• 49:25Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 49:26Speaker 03

And it's just that, I've not had one of them in what? Thirty-five years.

• 49:32Speaker 02

Probably so many E colors it kills people.

• 49:34Jessie Ware?

You should have seen our school WhatsApp group about that when they offered them in the summer. It kicked the fuck off.

• 49:40Speaker 03

Chris Van Tillican's not happy about that, I can tell you that.

• 49:42Jessie Ware?

But the kids were, the kids were thrilled.

• 49:46Speaker 03

Chill out on the WhatsApp group, let people live a little.

• 49:50Jessie Ware?

Someone didn't ice pole pole to try and diffuse it. It was actually quite jokes.

• 49:56Speaker 03

Was it like Brexit and it didn't solve everything and it was making people more angry?

• 50:00Jessie Ware?

Somebody wanted watermelon instead. Josh Whittaker, it's been such a pleasure to have you.

• 50:05Speaker 03

I'm so sorry I was late.

• 50:07Speaker 02

I wish you'd stay longer because you're so lovely.

• 50:10Speaker 03

  Well, thank you.

• 50:11Jessie Ware?

Thanks so much for coming on and I'm sorry it's been such a schlep, but it has been a joy and you're welcome back anytime.

• 50:16Speaker 02

I think you look like a young Robert Redford.

• 50:20Jessie Ware?

  Did you get that?

• 50:20Speaker 03

  The camera's still running?

• 50:22Speaker 02

  I think absolutely.

• 50:24Speaker 03

Clip that up and put it on your socials.

• 50:25Speaker 02

That's exactly who reminds me of.

• 50:27Jessie Ware?

  A young Robert Redford.

• 50:28Speaker 02

  A young Robert Redford.

• 50:31Speaker 02

What was his name? What was his name in that thing?

• 50:35Jessie Ware?

  Hubble.

• 50:35Speaker 02

  Hubble.

• 50:36Speaker 03

  What's that?

• 50:37Jessie Ware?

The way we were, Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. You need to watch it.

• 50:41Speaker 02

  The cowboy one.

• 50:43Speaker 03

Cowboy one. But you're passing the Sundance Kid.

• 50:47Jessie Ware?

That's what I was thinking. A cowboy and Josh Whittaker, get out of here.

• 50:50Speaker 03

Here's Stoller, Adam Hills and me.

• 51:07Jessie Ware?

Well, I love the cowboy that is Josh Whittaker.

• 51:10Speaker 02

  Oh, he's lovely, isn't he?

• 51:11Jessie Ware?

He's so lovely and funny and was such a good sport.

• 51:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 51:17Jessie Ware?

And he could have been in a really bad mood.

• 51:19Speaker 02

  I would have been.

• 51:20Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, I know.

• 51:22Speaker 02

  I would.

• 51:23Jessie Ware?

But thank you so much to Josh for coming on. I'm definitely gonna go to knock my cup of tea. I think he's doing Hackney Empire for two nights, but I mean, he's doing 80 dates, so you'll be able to get him somewhere.

• 51:33Speaker 02

Well, he's certainly my cup of tea. I liked him a lot.

• 51:37Jessie Ware?

Yeah, he was great. It was really, really good fun. And thank you to all the gang today that kind of helped me think of something to do and went down to the bakery. Thank you, Jo.

• 51:48Speaker 02

  It was delicious.

• 51:49Jessie Ware?

We, problem solved. We showed that if we were in an escape room, we'd be able to get out potentially.

• 51:55Speaker 02

  Would we?

• 51:55Jessie Ware?

Not without a fight or two, but.

• 51:58Speaker 02

That is going to be our Christmas.

• 51:59Jessie Ware?

That was a team bonding experience.

• 52:01Speaker 02

  Definitely Christmas after.

• 52:04Jessie Ware?

Anyway, we'll see you next week.

• 52:20Speaker 04
