• 1:01Doug DeMuro?

Hello and welcome to This Car Pod!

• 1:04Speaker 02

  I'm Filippo.

• 1:05Speaker 03

  I'm Nick.

• 1:06Doug DeMuro?

Kennen's out today. We got a lot to cover. Let's start with the big news story. Our Euro Road Trip is live. Folks, if you haven't seen, we did a road trip where we took our cars to Paris, California.

• 1:18Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:20Doug DeMuro?

And the Nick's multiple, my Audi A2, Filippo's 500A Barth. We did that. There's a great video on the Cars and Bids YouTube channel. I'm told it's hilarious. I've only watched part of it. I can't wait to see it.

• 1:30Speaker 02

It's also not just video one. There's gonna be two more coming.

• 1:33Doug DeMuro?

Two more coming. The cars are for sale.

• 1:37Speaker 02

  Indeed.

• 1:37Doug DeMuro?

I find it interesting that we're selling the cars prior to all of the videos going live. Like, the auctions will end, and then people will buy the cars, but then later there may be videos that the people-

• 1:47Speaker 02

All the videos come out while the auctions are still live.

• 1:49Speaker 03

It's a 10-day auction, a special treat for us Cars and Bids insiders. We're really milking the system here.

• 1:56Doug DeMuro?

I'm a little bit anxious about the fact that both the multiple and the A2 are at 6969, which is obviously a joke bid, but I believe that is their value, if not more than their value. Whoever put that bid in is gonna regret it because he or she will end up with the cars.

• 2:10Speaker 02

I'm gonna throw that there. We spent, oh, eight grand on the multiple now. We're good.

• 2:13Speaker 03

  Oh, hey!

• 2:16Speaker 02

  Wow!

• 2:18Speaker 03

  And it's sold!

• 2:20Doug DeMuro?

  That is for sure.

• 2:21Speaker 02

No, they got a ways to go. We paid more than that.

• 2:23Doug DeMuro?

Nick and I have some sort. Yeah, we paid more than that. We radically overpaid for both of these cars so we could do a Euro road trip with them.

• 2:30Speaker 02

  Oh, that's an interesting point.

• 2:31Doug DeMuro?

And it's great. Go watch it, even though I myself have not. By the time you've seen this, I will have watched it.

• 2:38Speaker 03

I saw it for the first time this morning when it went live.

• 2:41Doug DeMuro?

  So good.

• 2:41Speaker 03

Super happy with how it came out.

• 2:43Doug DeMuro?

I saw the first 10 minutes. It was, it was really funny.

• 2:45Speaker 03

We were all a little silly and out there. I'm getting dragged in the comments rightfully so for being a typical American.

• 2:52Speaker 02

What they don't know is that then in the next video, you're going drag racing.

• 2:55Doug DeMuro?

What they also don't know is je m'appelle Nicolas Roche. Like, I'm French.

• 3:00Speaker 02

Move on, move on, move on.

• 3:02Doug DeMuro?

Euro Car Road Trip, go watch it. The Cars and Bids YouTube channel. We're gonna talk more about it next week, but it's a great, it's a great video series with great cars. Filippo's finally gonna rid himself of his 500 Abarth. Thank God.

• 3:14Speaker 02

  It's gone.

• 3:15Doug DeMuro?

And I'm so glad the A2 and the Multipla will also be gone. The Office will be rid of these vehicles.

• 3:20Speaker 02

Sad. A lot fewer Italian vehicles once they're gone.

• 3:22Doug DeMuro?

Don't buy these cars, by the way. They're all bad.

• 3:25Speaker 03

Definitely buy them and also buy the Multipla. It's the best of the three.

• 3:30Doug DeMuro?

It is my favorite of the three.

• 3:31Speaker 03

I knew my, my wife was like, Doug is gonna talk down on your Multipla. Do not let him do it. And you know what? I'm, I forgot to talk to you before the pods. I'm telling you now, the Multipla is a gem. It's the only one in the country and it is worth at least 40, 50 grand.

• 3:45Doug DeMuro?

So here's the deal. So Filippo doesn't really care anymore. Just wants his car gone.

• 3:48Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 3:48Doug DeMuro?

I didn't buy the A2. The company bought it, so I don't care what it sells for.

• 3:51Speaker 02

  I care.

• 3:51Doug DeMuro?

The only person who cares about the sale price of his car is Nick. And Nick and I have a bet going about what we think it's gonna be.

• 3:58Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 3:58Doug DeMuro?

Uh, but I'm not gonna share the bet because I don't want people to overbid.

• 4:03Speaker 02

We don't promote betting markets here.

• 4:05Doug DeMuro?

Right. We, God knows, unless one of them sponsors. Then we're all over it.

• 4:10Speaker 03

Hagerty did sponsor the series, which is really fantastic.

• 4:13Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 4:13Speaker 03

And they insure two of the cars, so they will be happy when they sell and they're potentially off the books.

• 4:19Doug DeMuro?

I don't know if we're allowed to talk about this. Sean's probably gonna yell at me later, but I'm so glad we have Hagerty as a sponsor.

• 4:23Speaker 03

  Yeah, it's great.

• 4:24Doug DeMuro?

Like, I literally have been a Hagerty customer. I spend, I spend thousands of dollars with Hagerty every minute.

• 4:29Speaker 02

And now you indirectly get some of that back.

• 4:32Doug DeMuro?

  Get any of it back.

• 4:34Speaker 03

I use all of your sponsors. If someone wants to give a free t-shirt like Dodge at Barrett-Jackson, I have underwear from, I think I have Chubbies I'm gonna wear tonight in the hot tub.

• 4:45Doug DeMuro?

The next news story is sponsored by Nick Rochan's YouTube channel, which is Tesla is killing off the X. It's actually kind of a dystopian story because it's not Tesla is killing off the S and the X. A robot is um to kill these cars.

• 5:00Speaker 02

Honestly, that's what's happening. Tesla has, they need the production line capacity to build humanoid robots. Now, what they didn't say is that the Model S came out in 2012 and has received a single refresh in 2017 and has been the same. And the Model X came out in 2016 and hasn't really been refreshed ever.

• 5:15Doug DeMuro?

The Model S, they changed the front. That was the refresh. I'm sure they said there have been other ones. But we all know there was one refresh.

• 5:23Speaker 02

  We all agree there's one.

• 5:24Doug DeMuro?

The Model, the Model S, I believe, I haven't looked this up, but I really think it might be the oldest new car on sale. The Challenger is gone, the Charger is gone, the old bodies. The, is the Chevy Express still on sale?

• 5:35Speaker 02

The Macan came out after, so yeah.

• 5:37Doug DeMuro?

  Is the Frontier?

• 5:38Speaker 02

Chevy Express is technically dead, but.

• 5:40Doug DeMuro?

Is the Express still on sale or it's dead? What about the GMC Savannah?

• 5:44Speaker 02

I believe they're both dead. I think you're right. You can still buy the Econoline chassis trucks, so maybe that is.

• 5:50Doug DeMuro?

The Model S, though, was so far ahead of its time when it came out that it was, it was able to have this long generation.

• 5:57Speaker 02

  Yup.

• 5:57Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, which is 15 years.

• 5:59Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 6:01Doug DeMuro?

However, it is gone. The X is gone. You know, a couple of interesting things about this. To me, the most interesting thing, like what killed them ultimately was that they did the exact same products, but cheaper. And I, I was making this point to Rivian yesterday, like the R2.

• 6:13Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 6:14Doug DeMuro?

  Is.

• 6:14Speaker 02

  Rivian small SUV that's coming.

• 6:16Doug DeMuro?

Like an R1S, but littler. And ultimately, like, the Model X, once the Y came out, the X was really only selling to people who absolutely needed the space.

• 6:26Speaker 02

Yep, or wanted the doors. Yeah.

• 6:28Speaker 03

But three-row SUVs are huge, bigger, like, I, I think a revised Model X could do well. I think the Model S, maybe you let the big sedan market.

• 6:36Doug DeMuro?

My, yeah, my problem with the X and with the Rivians is that, like, the Range Rover, you buy it. It, it looks totally. Really different.

• 6:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 6:44Doug DeMuro?

Like compared to a Velar or a Discovery or an Evoque. Like the Range Rover looks like real. The X, it's hard to tell. A normal person can't tell the difference between a Y and an X. A normal person, we can.

• 6:56Speaker 03

I agree, although like Audi is also famous for all their models looking very similar to slightly different.

• 7:01Speaker 02

  And the A8 is.

• 7:02Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, and how's that worked for them? I, the A6 and the A8 are both, are both dead in the water.

• 7:06Speaker 03

A lot of companies think having a similar design language is a good thing. A different packaging, you want three rows, you want two rows, you want big, you want medium, you want small. I, I, I think, I'm surprised that they're discontinuing the SUV. The big sedan is not a surprise.

• 7:19Speaker 02

I think the reason it's not surprising is that they've been out for a long time. They're frankly very stale. They're not selling that well.

• 7:24Speaker 03

  Refresh it, you remodel it.

• 7:25Speaker 02

And they don't want to invest in it, which I.

• 7:27Speaker 03

They don't want to invest in it because they want robots.

• 7:29Doug DeMuro?

I think the truth is what they find is that, that there's not a huge market for this vehicle. Because other than the third row, it's indistinct and it's really expensive.

• 7:37Speaker 02

And also coming out with another one does not help their stock price, saying that they're gonna build humanoid robots.

• 7:42Speaker 03

What, what is the market for the robots?

• 7:44Doug DeMuro?

Dude, you don't want a humanoid robot?

• 7:45Speaker 03

  No.

• 7:46Doug DeMuro?

Remember the two-door taxi? That's, that is coming out.

• 7:49Speaker 03

  Remember Whistling?

• 7:50Doug DeMuro?

Kind of big brain stuff this company.

• 7:52Speaker 03

Whistling bought one and like taught it to attack things.

• 7:54Doug DeMuro?

  The robot?

• 7:55Speaker 03

Run around with a sword. It was amazing.

• 7:57Doug DeMuro?

  Whistling arrested again.

• 7:58Speaker 03

  I know, I know.

• 7:59Doug DeMuro?

Um, anyway, X and S are dead. No surprise for those who've been following the issue. I agree with you. It's not surprising, especially about S.

• 8:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 8:05Doug DeMuro?

The big sedan market is slow. This car was a huge deal when it came out. I, I just recorded a video of the most impactful cars in the last 30 years.

• 8:12Speaker 03

  That's one of them.

• 8:13Doug DeMuro?

And I put that as number one. Spoiler alert.

• 8:16Speaker 03

Subscribe so you don't miss it.

• 8:18Doug DeMuro?

I, don't you think that that like?

• 8:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, 100%.

• 8:20Doug DeMuro?

  That car changed the world.

• 8:21Speaker 03

The Prius might be more, but you said.

• 8:22Doug DeMuro?

That was number two. The 03.

• 8:25Speaker 03

  20 years?

• 8:25Doug DeMuro?

The 03 Prius specifically. That car changed, changed the absolute world, but Tesla now pairs down. We have just the three and the Y.

• 8:32Speaker 02

Also, are they investing that heavily in any product? I do wonder where their R and D dollars are going. The, the three came out with, with refreshed. Will there be a next generation? They're kind of coming to the end of that timeline. They should have one in progress if they're really.

• 8:43Doug DeMuro?

Why do you think they're coming in that timeline? This car lasted, I mean, the three came out in 18, didn't it? So this is six years after. So they got six more years of the three. It's hard for Tesla because their design language is this very specific thing. And they can't really deviate. And so it's like, where do we go from here? The tech is already what the tech is.

• 9:01Speaker 02

Eventually they'll need to redesign it, maybe. Unless they're going to like an iPhone S where there's some small changes.

• 9:06Doug DeMuro?

Or maybe here's a counterpoint. Maybe Tesla just gives up on the car biz. Maybe they're like, we made our point, we're out. I know it's laughable to say this right now, but they've given like the self-driving thing is no longer class leading. The giant screen everybody has, they've given up their supercharger network to everybody else. They've get the charging ports and charging standard. Like there's not really, maybe Tesla just quietly over the next 10 years just says, we, we killed it. We changed the world. Now we're going to walk away and let everyone else handle it.

• 9:35Speaker 02

Yeah, that's what companies with a $2.3 trillion market.

• 9:39Doug DeMuro?

No, then you move on to humanoid robots.

• 9:40Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah, that's actually.

• 9:41Doug DeMuro?

And AI, that's the next frontier.

• 9:44Speaker 02

SpaceX and XAI, which is the AI arm of X, I guess, are joining forces to become a single company.

• 9:51Doug DeMuro?

I just don't see what Tesla has anymore that is like that big of a deal.

• 9:54Speaker 02

Model Y was the best-selling car in the world last year.

• 9:57Doug DeMuro?

Okay, so they, they have the best-selling car in the world. But other than that, no, you get my point though. Like the advantages, what Tesla for years had these massive advantages over all these other car companies. And like, yes.

• 10:08Speaker 02

They gotta innovate and I get not wanting to, if they do want to continue in the car industry, not just do cyber cabs.

• 10:14Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 10:14Speaker 02

  Which they.

• 10:15Doug DeMuro?

We need to see like a real, something real like these cars.

• 10:17Speaker 02

I wouldn't invest in these. I would reinvest in the next generation Model 3, next generation Model Y.

• 10:21Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, right. That's where the market segment is. Those are global cars that sell real well. Okay. It's still interesting to see these beloved cars canceled. And speaking of canceled.

• 10:29Speaker 02

Apparently Porsche is considering cutting their electric sports car entirely.

• 10:34Doug DeMuro?

This has been a crazy arc on this podcast. We're at episode 97. The first episode's, oh, the Boxster is gonna go away. Then eventually the Boxster is gone. And then eventually, oh, now they're thinking about maybe doing a plug-in hybrid or a gas one alongside. An electric one. Now here we are. The electric one is dead. And by the way, Porsche is thinking about cancelling it.

• 10:54Speaker 02

It's dead. There, the news articles around it are basically it has, there have been mounting costs to get the platform to where they want it to be. And to get the car to where they want it to be. So I imagine they're pretty deep in production.

• 11:05Doug DeMuro?

And despite all these costs, it's still undesirable. Like no matter how much money you spend on this thing, ain't nobody want it.

• 11:12Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 11:12Doug DeMuro?

Kind of like your shirt, honestly. What a.

• 11:15Speaker 02

  Apparently.

• 11:16Speaker 03

  Good for that price.

• 11:17Speaker 02

They have been, we talked a month, two months ago about, uh, maybe there'll be a plug-in hybrid version. Adding that to this platform seems like it's been really difficult. They're just considering scrapping it entirely.

• 11:26Doug DeMuro?

  Give us a flat six.

• 11:28Speaker 03

That's right. I mean, even like a boxer.

• 11:31Doug DeMuro?

Remox and all that for a million dollars plus. Penninfarida, Batista.

• 11:36Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 11:36Doug DeMuro?

Although I did drive a Cyberster.

• 11:39Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 11:39Doug DeMuro?

Just like your granddaddy's old MG.

• 11:41Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 11:42Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 11:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 11:42Speaker 03

  The turn signals were.

• 11:43Speaker 02

  Big fan.

• 11:44Speaker 03

  They're us.

• 11:44Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, they were. Um, I'm not surprised by this at all.

• 11:47Speaker 02

  No.

• 11:48Doug DeMuro?

Bring back the flat six. You could, you could win all the enthusiasts back with a 983 that has a flat. Technically, the 718 was a 982.

• 11:57Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 11:57Doug DeMuro?

You could bring them all back with a, with a flat six and just say, we're, we're coming back, baby. Everybody's, everybody would be into it.

• 12:05Speaker 03

The boxer doesn't surprise me as much, but you're saying all EVs. So like the Macan.

• 12:08Doug DeMuro?

No, no, no. Or just the mid-engine sport, what was formerly the mid-engine sports car. It is being rumored that they are getting rid of.

• 12:16Speaker 02

  Our EV is mid-engine.

• 12:17Doug DeMuro?

Uh, and they're naturally aspirated. No, but that's the thing. Everybody's all, everybody's all up on these NA cars, all the big old. Remember the Model S Plaid is the fastest naturally aspirated.

• 12:27Speaker 02

I have a real question. It's like, you normally define it by where it is relative to the axles, but the motors usually are on the axles or on the wheels.

• 12:33Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 12:34Speaker 02

  Mid-engine?

• 12:35Doug DeMuro?

Um, I think, I think at this point you would define it based on like the weight distribution and like the feel. So.

• 12:41Speaker 02

  So they're all.

• 12:41Doug DeMuro?

  Depends on the car.

• 12:42Speaker 02

Because all the batteries are in the floor.

• 12:44Doug DeMuro?

The batteries are in the floor. Yeah.

• 12:45Speaker 02

  They're all mid-engine.

• 12:46Doug DeMuro?

  In, in a way.

• 12:47Speaker 02

  Mid-engine sports car.

• 12:48Doug DeMuro?

In a way, I think that as a result of that, electric lends itself kind of okay to a pretty good. The batteries are, they tend to be low, so they keep the center of gravity low and they tend to be in the middle. Yeah.

• 12:58Speaker 03

  And instant torque.

• 13:00Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 13:01Speaker 02

You, Audi would not get their complaints about the weight being too far forward with the EV?

• 13:05Doug DeMuro?

No, uh, there are benefits to it and that Hyundai now shifts gears, which is great.

• 13:10Speaker 02

All right, these are probably dead. Goodbye.

• 13:12Doug DeMuro?

Goodbye and good riddance. Nobody wanted them anyway.

• 13:15Speaker 02

  No, I legitimately.

• 13:17Doug DeMuro?

You're the only one, and you never would have spent the money on it.

• 13:20Speaker 02

  Without a single doubt.

• 13:21Doug DeMuro?

Now it would have cost 90 grand after all the suppliers.

• 13:23Speaker 02

  No doubt.

• 13:24Doug DeMuro?

Next story. Oh, speaking of dead, this surprises nobody, but the Lexus LC is dead.

• 13:31Speaker 02

  Shame.

• 13:32Doug DeMuro?

After one more year or something like that. This year, I don't know.

• 13:37Doug DeMuro?

  This car.

• 13:39Speaker 02

  Could have been.

• 13:40Doug DeMuro?

  This car is special.

• 13:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, could have been.

• 13:41Doug DeMuro?

This car is gonna go down as special, and it will. It's an NAV8. It is beautiful. They didn't sell many of them. This car is gonna go down as a special, special car.

• 13:52Speaker 02

It's the Mark IV Supra of our generation.

• 13:54Doug DeMuro?

You give it 20 years, 25 years, but in that time, this car will go down as a truly special car.

• 13:59Speaker 02

It still looks like a concept car.

• 14:00Doug DeMuro?

Still looks like a concept car. I actually think that, you know, when they left remote touch and went to normal screen, it's those that are gonna be the most desired. There's like a three, there's gonna be like three model years of really desirable LC. They're all gonna be desirable except for the hybrid ones, but this car is gonna be special someday.

• 14:19Speaker 02

It is. You buy that same logic. He's looking at the previous model. The SC400, the like 90 SC400. Would also be so. It's a beautiful car with a V8. It's different. No. That's not really a performance car.

• 14:31Doug DeMuro?

This was the last NAV8. It was a real fast car. The Lexus SC, despite enthusiasts claiming that the first gen wasn't, has always been a soft luxury car. This car is gonna be special.

• 14:43Speaker 02

I think it was a soft luxury car.

• 14:45Doug DeMuro?

Have you driven one? Are you nuts?

• 14:46Speaker 02

But the people that you do see driving them, you assume it's comfortable enough for their 80-plus year old.

• 14:50Doug DeMuro?

Who do you see driving a 911? Who do you see driving a 911? You call that a soft luxury car? I haven't seen someone under 90 driving a new 911 in 15 years.

• 14:59Speaker 02

  Seems like 50-year-old women.

• 15:00Doug DeMuro?

The average buyer age of a new 911 has gotta be 77 years old. This car is a special car and I think it's gonna go down as especially those last few model years, the best improvements, losing remote touch.

• 15:14Speaker 03

You're right, though, that it's gonna take a while. It's not gonna be in a couple of years.

• 15:18Doug DeMuro?

If you've paid attention to values for these already, they're already okay. This car is already like, yeah, like, early used ones are still like in the 50s valuable cars. And the market is already appreciating this car for what it is. It's always gonna be a small group of people, but as the hybrids come and the plug-in hybrids and all this dumb stuff.

• 15:37Speaker 02

Ignore the hybrid one of these.

• 15:39Doug DeMuro?

Ignore the hybrid one. All the buyers did.

• 15:41Speaker 03

I also like that they came in cool colors. Like those bright yellow ones are gonna be like 20 years from now, someone's gonna be like, I'm gonna have a bright yellow V8, last of the last Toyota Lexus.

• 15:51Doug DeMuro?

On Cars and Bids 2055, this will be a huge, huge.

• 15:56Speaker 02

2055, I'll come back to episode 97 of the podcast.

• 15:58Speaker 03

What do you think's gonna age better, this or the LFA?

• 15:59Doug DeMuro?

This has already aged better than the LFA. It looked better than the LFA from day one, it drives better, it's better in every single way.

• 16:05Speaker 02

  A 15th to price, we're doing well.

• 16:07Speaker 03

The LFA has slightly better sound.

• 16:09Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, the LFA sounds better. I mean, I'm sure there's other things that the LFA, it's got more letters in its name. I mean, there's other dumb stuff that the LFA. This car was always a better halo car. It just, at the end of the day, the market simply isn't really there for a Lexus coupe, no matter how good it was. This car goes down as a very special car. Buy your LC500s, folks, enjoy them.

• 16:29Speaker 02

  You got one more year.

• 16:30Doug DeMuro?

A reliable, I mean, look at ISFs. That car's 15 years old, 20 years old.

• 16:34Speaker 02

They have retained their value, doesn't mean they've appreciated.

• 16:37Doug DeMuro?

I'm not saying it's gonna go crazy appreciation. You would've been sitting on this pod being like, "The Mark IV Supra will never be worth anything."

• 16:44Speaker 03

  Just like that.

• 16:46Speaker 02

  That's an interesting point.

• 16:47Doug DeMuro?

You would've said that about all these cars. You know, we got a Z32 over there. You ever driven one of those?

• 16:53Speaker 02

No. We're gonna find out how it is, how much it's worth.

• 16:56Doug DeMuro?

  It's amazing.

• 16:57Speaker 03

This basement is stacked right now with cool stuff.

• 17:00Speaker 02

Also, it's stacked with low mile, 90s and early 2000s cars.

• 17:05Doug DeMuro?

Between, we got an 04 STI down here with 875 miles. We got a Z32 twin turbo 300ZX with 6,800 miles, and then we have an NSX with 321. That's a good point, Al.

• 17:16Speaker 03

You know what I learned recently? I got the approval for my multiple auction. It only has 136,000 miles. I'd never done the calculation from kilometers. And I was like, wow, that's pretty good. In middle school, a formative time in my life, I ran track and field and a girl looked at me. Then another girl looked at her friend and said, "Don't look at him. He's got chicken legs." Well, not with Chubbies. Chubbies accentuates my thighs and legs in a way that makes me not look like chicken legs, but like a muscular man. The fit is just unreal. Four-way stretch that works as well swimming laps as it does lounging poolside. They feel broken in and yeah, my legs look good. And this is a big one. Chubbies is celebrating 15 years.

• 17:59Speaker 03

The original shorts that defined proper leg shorts are back. Same iconic fit, same comfort first design, same thigh-high confidence that built the brand. With over 2.6 million customers that clearly know how to keep the vibes high and thighs happy. For a limited time, Chubbies is giving our listeners 20% off with code DUG at chubbyshorts.com. That's 20% off with code DUG. Give your thighs the VIP treatment they deserve with Chubbies. And support the show while you're at it. Say goodbye to chicken legs. Chubbies.com.

• 18:31Doug DeMuro?

All right, move on to the next news story. I'm gonna miss you, LLC 500.

• 18:35Speaker 02

  New S-Class, it's been refreshed.

• 18:38Doug DeMuro?

  New S-Class.

• 18:38Speaker 03

Much like the Tesla Model S. It has undergone a lot of changes, as Ryan might argue.

• 18:45Doug DeMuro?

This is more changes than the Model S ever had.

• 18:47Speaker 03

It looks really subtle at first, but literally everything is different. The steering wheel, there's more screens.

• 18:52Doug DeMuro?

Well, specifically, the S-Class is finally getting the hyperscreen, which had debuted in EQS.

• 18:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 18:58Doug DeMuro?

And I don't remember what the latest is on EQ, whether they're completely canceling it or roaring it back. It'll change tomorrow, whatever we say. But either way, the hyperscreen has now made its way into the S-Class.

• 19:06Speaker 02

  Also, heated seatbelts.

• 19:08Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, heated seatbelts.

• 19:10Speaker 03

The hood emblem is illuminated. There's a lot of like

• 19:13Doug DeMuro?

  A lot of good

• 19:13Speaker 03

gimmicks, for lack of a better word, but they've taken this car and this platform so far. There's really no room for improvement. Like they've, they've won the race. They've climbed Kilimajaro.

• 19:22Doug DeMuro?

  It is interesting.

• 19:23Speaker 03

Where do you go from here? They're Alex Honnold climbing up that building in Taiwan.

• 19:27Doug DeMuro?

I do think about this a lot, like, you know, it's funny, like, we've been talking about the death of the large luxury sedans. Acura RL, Jaguar XJ, Audi AA, like their LXLS, they're all slowly.

• 19:35Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 19:36Doug DeMuro?

  Not this one.

• 19:37Speaker 03

The S-Class is more than a car, though. It's a brand.

• 19:39Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 19:39Speaker 03

  It's like a whole lifestyle.

• 19:41Doug DeMuro?

At one point, when I worked for Porsche, I remember the, the head of product planning told me BMW is known for the three series. Mercedes is known for the S-Class. It's a little different now because the SUVs have come, but Mercedes is still like the S-Class. And this, as when all the other luxury sedans are dead, this will still be, you know, prevailing amongst them all.

• 19:58Speaker 03

Do we like the new headlights?

• 20:00Doug DeMuro?

  I think it looks great.

• 20:01Speaker 03

  Yeah, I agree.

• 20:02Doug DeMuro?

I think it looks nicely updated. I think it's attractive.

• 20:04Speaker 03

Oddly, a lot of people online sort of were mixed on the reaction.

• 20:07Doug DeMuro?

Every single time a new car is shown for the first time, people online complain.

• 20:11Speaker 03

  I just thought it was

• 20:11Doug DeMuro?

  Every time.

• 20:12Speaker 03

Surprising. I agree, but this is to me a pretty incremental difference. It's like, you have to have them right next to each other to tell the difference. So for people to be like, oh, it's awful. It's like, it's barely noticeable.

• 20:21Doug DeMuro?

Barely noticeable, but I do think there will probably be minor, the current S-Class is one of the great cars that I have, you know, it's amazing. And there's an E Performance version with 850 horsepower, 12, 1200 pound feet of torque. That's going to be 38 grand in six years.

• 20:34Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:35Doug DeMuro?

Uh, it is such a great product range. It is such a great car. And now it's got heated seatbelts.

• 20:39Speaker 03

And please buy one new so that Nick can buy it for 30 grand in six years. The heated seatbelts, by the way, so you know, heated armrests, heated steering wheel, heated seats.

• 20:48Doug DeMuro?

  Panels.

• 20:48Speaker 03

Normal. Uh, heated seatbelts are new.

• 20:51Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 20:51Speaker 03

Uh, they also have a safety benefit. Can you guess what it is?

• 20:55Doug DeMuro?

They keep you warm so that you do not freeze to death in your S-Class.

• 21:00Speaker 03

Yeah, they, they keep you warm. So you can remove your coat and outer layers. And so the seatbelts fit snugly.

• 21:05Doug DeMuro?

The, the, the giant heating system in the car doesn't have that benefit, but the heated seatbelts.

• 21:11Speaker 03

Correct. I'm not joking. That was part of their PR.

• 21:14Doug DeMuro?

That's the kind of dumb crap that people repeat on Reddit in 20 years. No, it also did this.

• 21:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:18Doug DeMuro?

It's like the, it's like those, remember those taillights that, that were the, the horizontal stacked taillights on the 124s and stuff? They had those little cutouts supposedly to dissipate dirt.

• 21:27Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:29Doug DeMuro?

People still repeat that. It has never made any sense. And by the way, Mercedes stopped doing it. So if they were so good at dissipating dirt, you'd think they would have kept it up. Well, people are still like, no, it's there to dissipate dirt. Okay, move on to the next news story. The Acura RDX is being canceled. You don't think this is a big news story. I think this is a massive news.

• 21:46Speaker 02

It's a huge news story. It's their only car in the hottest segment.

• 21:49Doug DeMuro?

What percentage of sales is the RDX? Acura sales.

• 21:52Speaker 02

Acura sold last year the MDX, the ADX briefly, the TL.

• 21:57Doug DeMuro?

Okay, I didn't ask you to name the Acuras. But good job.

• 22:00Speaker 02

  30%.

• 22:01Doug DeMuro?

30% of Acura sales is the RDX and they are canceling it and not returning.

• 22:05Speaker 02

  Was that right?

• 22:06Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, they're not. It is also on the pod doc. So I'm, you know, what a surprise.

• 22:10Speaker 02

No, for the record, it is not.

• 22:12Doug DeMuro?

  But it.

• 22:15Doug DeMuro?

  Cut this part out.

• 22:18Speaker 02

I will not have my integrity questioned.

• 22:21Doug DeMuro?

Integra is the Acura you forgot, by the way.

• 22:23Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 22:23Doug DeMuro?

30%. 30% of Acura sales last year were the RDX. They're canceling. Now they're bringing it back in 28 as a hybrid. But I thought this was interesting. Can you imagine Lexus or Mercedes being like, we'll be back in two years with the S-Class? We'll be back in two years with the RX. Subaru, we'll be back in two years with the Outback. I think that this, even though it's a minor thing, is kind of an illustration of how Honda views Acura. And the level of investment and interest they have in continuing this brand. And they claim they have enough inventory to sell through the end of this year and then they're going to take a little break.

• 22:55Speaker 02

  Also.

• 22:55Doug DeMuro?

And then, yeah, I know. And then they're going to come out with a new one. And it's like, this is, you don't have a small midsize crossover. Like, this is it.

• 23:03Speaker 02

Also, you can just kind of slow down production. If you have enough inventory, nobody needs to know.

• 23:07Doug DeMuro?

They're coming out, and I don't know exactly which what's made in what factory, but they're coming out with a brand new midsize electric crossover.

• 23:14Speaker 02

  Are they?

• 23:14Doug DeMuro?

The RSX, remember? Which will be dead in the water.

• 23:17Speaker 02

Which we've seen during Car Week last year.

• 23:19Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. Well, no one is going to buy that.

• 23:21Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 23:22Doug DeMuro?

And, and the theory is Acura, Acura's been in the press, oh, we're canceling the RDX, but we're confident we're going to improve year over year in sales. Oh yeah, but the RSX, you're going to sell six.

• 23:30Speaker 02

The ADX is what's going to propel.

• 23:32Doug DeMuro?

I saw one on the road yesterday. I was shocked. This, you cannot get away with, the RDX and the MDX are the core. And the concept that Honda feels that it's like, okay to take a two-year gap. I would be livid if I was an Acura dealer. Absolutely livid that this is happening.

• 23:46Speaker 02

Yes. Remember when automakers would just extend the other product line to overlap?

• 23:50Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 23:51Speaker 02

  The Nissan classic.

• 23:52Doug DeMuro?

  Malibu classic.

• 23:53Speaker 02

  Certain. Make sure they're not.

• 23:54Doug DeMuro?

I do wonder about whether we should start an Acura Death Watch. We've been critical of Honda on this podcast for being conservative with their vehicles.

• 24:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 24:03Doug DeMuro?

And they have this great core product thing, and then they're afraid to invest outside that. It's starting to get to a point, though, where it's becoming detrimental. Like, they are literally leaving. It used to be like, they don't want to try too much because they might lose money. Now they're literally leaving stuff on the table. And if they don't think Acura is a viable brand, this is how you signal it.

• 24:20Speaker 02

Agreed. It's insane to cancel your largest segment car at the 30% of your volume.

• 24:25Doug DeMuro?

30% of your volume. MDX probably another 30, 40%.

• 24:29Speaker 02

It feels like killing it would be too, like, assertive a decision by Honda.

• 24:35Doug DeMuro?

Time off. I know this is not a major news story. The RDX is not really an enthusiast car, but it does speak to me, again, about Honda's being too conservative. And again, about whether the Acura brand really, truly lasts. I didn't realize Acura is only selling about 140,000 cars a year. It's really not a strong brand.

• 24:51Speaker 03

What's odd, though, is compared to the Nissan and Infiniti situation, Honda's brand is incredibly strong.

• 24:56Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 24:57Speaker 03

And I still think for normies, Acura's brand is really strong.

• 24:59Doug DeMuro?

  I agree.

• 25:00Speaker 03

Because it's a deviant or variation of Honda.

• 25:02Doug DeMuro?

And Honda has so much love for its dependability. I truly think if Honda really invested hard in Acura, they could have a pretty successful brand.

• 25:09Speaker 03

I don't even think they need to work that hard at it.

• 25:11Doug DeMuro?

  No.

• 25:11Speaker 03

Just take the Honda products and badge engineer them, like, it's fine. Like, I want an Acura Pilot, my wife would drive that.

• 25:19Speaker 02

  The MDX exists.

• 25:19Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, that is the MDX.

• 25:20Speaker 03

Okay, well, then we'll look at that.

• 25:23Doug DeMuro?

  They need more product.

• 25:24Speaker 02

  It's a good-looking car.

• 25:25Doug DeMuro?

They need more product, for sure. And they've had some false starts, thinking, oh, the Integra is going to work. Oh, you know, this and that. They definitely just need to be in more segments with SUVs. And I think that they're having trouble. BMW can get away with it because they make cool cars that people want to get. If Acura making eight SUVs is probably not likely. Nonetheless, there is something here that is better than what is happening. And it's interesting to me that they're not even... Been willing to put investment into continuing this very popular car.

• 25:50Speaker 02

It's also shame like the RDX is a dated product. I get why they don't want to sell anymore. Have you seen the interior?

• 25:56Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, it is. It is. But that's true of all Honda interiors. Have you seen an Odyssey interior, dude?

• 25:59Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 25:59Doug DeMuro?

  There's Sienna's on sale.

• 26:00Speaker 02

Came out the same year, but like the Civic is so competitive, incredibly competitive. They're cord competitive product.

• 26:06Doug DeMuro?

  For now.

• 26:06Speaker 02

The CRV is still a competitive product.

• 26:08Doug DeMuro?

  Are you kidding?

• 26:09Speaker 02

The Pilot is a brand new product. They've invested in their core lineup, except for the Acura RDX interior, which still has a screen and like a giant center console.

• 26:17Doug DeMuro?

Both of those cars have old interiors and they are not putting the investment in Acura. You, again, I wonder if we should be starting an Acura Infinity Death Watch.

• 26:23Speaker 02

  I know.

• 26:24Doug DeMuro?

Initially it was just an Infinity Death Watch. We're watching the clock on that. Now we add Acura.

• 26:29Speaker 02

Move on to the next news story.

• 26:30Doug DeMuro?

  Oh.

• 26:31Speaker 02

This is a C8 Corvette that might be.

• 26:34Doug DeMuro?

  Looks like a boomer gallery.

• 26:36Speaker 02

That might be, that might be a Corvette Grand Sport in Admiral Blue, which was the color of the C4 Grand Sport with the same stripes.

• 26:44Doug DeMuro?

Well, the sport, the stripe on the C4 was in the front, but okay.

• 26:48Speaker 02

Okay, but you gotta make it look over there for the car. Apparently there's going to be a Grand Sport coming for the 2027 model year.

• 26:54Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 26:54Speaker 02

There's some, somebody saw it doing some testing.

• 26:58Doug DeMuro?

And there's talk that it will have a new LS.

• 27:00Speaker 02

Correct. There's talk that it will have a new naturally aspirated 6.7 liter LS6 is what apparently they're calling it.

• 27:05Doug DeMuro?

  We've already had an LS6.

• 27:08Doug DeMuro?

You think they're gonna bring back the LS6?

• 27:09Speaker 02

There'll be another. I don't, you know, who knows? Yeah. The, their updated LS, which will be called the LS6, apparently. 409 cubic inches, they expect about 550 horsepower. So like between the current regular Stingray and the E-Ray.

• 27:24Doug DeMuro?

You know, the, the, the C8, don't, don't look now, but the C8 has been on sale for six years.

• 27:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 27:32Doug DeMuro?

General Motors, who we've been a little critical of from time to time, has done an amazing job of keeping this car relevant.

• 27:38Speaker 02

  They have. Yeah.

• 27:38Doug DeMuro?

The ZR1X, there's still people clamoring, knocking down my door, trying to get a ZR1X video. Then there's gonna come out with another version of it. Which by the way, Grand Sport was always kind of an end of the line car. So you kind of wonder.

• 27:49Speaker 02

Yeah, C7 Grand Sport over to the end too.

• 27:50Doug DeMuro?

C4. But, um, man, the C8 is still feels, this still feels like hot.

• 27:55Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 27:56Doug DeMuro?

  Like still.

• 27:57Speaker 02

Yep. It truly does. It still is competitive in the segment also.

• 28:01Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. A very compelling car to this day. Yes. Like really good to drive even six years later. Yep. Also, they're getting, they've retained value by Corvette standard, but they're getting a little more. What are they selling? Pull up, pull up some C8s. We sell some C8s lately. We sold some C8s.

• 28:19Doug DeMuro?

What do we got? What are they selling? We've tried to sell some C8s. Okay, 59 for a 20 with 19,000 miles. Around 60. I mean, that was modified. That was modified. Here's unmodified convertible for 60ish. 60. Coupe's in the 50s. 60 honestly is holding its value pretty damn well for a six-year-old. I mean, what were, what were C7s doing in 20? I mean, for context, this 2024 was, had an 81 sticker now in the mid 50s or something like that. That's pretty solid. I'm into the C8 still. I've loved it since the day it came out. You know what? I'm gonna say something controversial. I don't even think it looks bad. I think it looks good. And soon it'll be a new engine and a new.

• 28:57Doug DeMuro?

  Color? I don't know.

• 28:58Speaker 03

And the Grand Sport's also cool just because it, I feel like to some ways appeals to the younger audience. Like, we all played video games with the C4 Grand Sport. Like, I'm excited for this. Like, and I'm not your typical Corvette buyer.

• 29:10Doug DeMuro?

Man, what if they, what if they did a manual? That'd be so cool.

• 29:13Speaker 02

Can I just say, the E-Ray is an appealing vehicle.

• 29:15Doug DeMuro?

E-Ray's a, yeah. The market does not agree. Market hates it, no surprise. But it's an appealing vehicle. The performance numbers on E-Ray are unbelievable. And also, personally, I think it might be the best looking. Yeah. It's just like a very simple, clean look that like, the Z06 is obviously more exciting and desirable as a car, but you start adding stuff that really kind of detracts from, the E-Ray is nice. Also, electric motor.

• 29:37Speaker 03

And the Grand Sport is supposed to be like, more like a 911R, right? Like, the driver focus.

• 29:42Doug DeMuro?

It was more, it's always been more like.

• 29:43Speaker 03

Carrera T, maybe. Like, it's a stripped down.

• 29:45Doug DeMuro?

Driver focused without kind of necessarily some of the crazy power.

• 29:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:48Doug DeMuro?

I'd call it GTS is probably where it would land in the 911.

• 29:51Speaker 03

It feels very Porsche equivalent in terms of like, they're really developing from just the 911 to like, a full lineup of special vehicles and.

  All of which are desirable.

• 30:00Speaker 03

And the Porsche, or the Corvette people are the same way as the Porsche people about options and stickers and.

• 30:06Doug DeMuro?

And are apparently willing to pay huge money. I mean, the 01 and 01X are like real money cars. Also insane performance. Insane. Insane. Excited for this if it happens.

• 31:42Doug DeMuro?

Next story, please. Ah, Nick, you see this?

• 31:45Speaker 03

Another, another entry to the Google poll.

• 31:48Doug DeMuro?

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is being canceled. This has not been confirmed yet, but I'm gonna confirm it right here, right now. Based on the sales numbers.

• 31:57Speaker 02

Can I read you what they said in a release to motor one? The Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle continues to be a valued, ongoing member of the Hyundai product portfolio.

• 32:06Speaker 03

A valued, that sounds like a performance improvement plan for an underperforming employee.

• 32:11Speaker 02

We do not comment. They also then said that this car helped them develop the new midsize body-on-frame truck.

• 32:18Speaker 03

We thank you for its contributions and wish it a soft landing wherever it may end up next.

• 32:22Doug DeMuro?

We'll write it a letter of recommendation.

• 32:25Speaker 02

So yeah, it's gonna be that.

• 32:26Speaker 03

You'll continue to get benefits for the next one to two months.

• 32:30Doug DeMuro?

Cobra. The Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz was cool. And honestly, I think it was pretty desirable.

• 32:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:38Doug DeMuro?

I always knew this would be its fate. Everyone who's ever tried to mess around with something that is a non-standard pickup truck has ended up not.

• 32:45Speaker 03

  The Ridgeline.

• 32:45Doug DeMuro?

The original Ridgeline, like the Baja, like this was always gonna happen. The Maverick was, they came out like the exact same time and the Maverick was always a much more practical, realistic, large, sales number vehicle, whereas this was always more of a lifestyle car. One of their pitches though about this was that the entire front end is basically a Tucson. And so it probably didn't, like, it probably wasn't that difficult to develop.

• 33:34Doug DeMuro?

  So.

• 33:34Speaker 02

I'm into it. Also, they sold 155,000 Mavericks in 2025, 25,000 Santa Cruzes.

• 33:41Doug DeMuro?

It was never intended to be that level. The pricing was very different.

• 33:44Speaker 02

  That's not bad, 25,000.

• 33:45Doug DeMuro?

It's not that bad. If you're Hyundai, it's not, you know, worth it.

• 33:49Speaker 02

Also, they're coming out with a body on frame midsize.

• 33:51Doug DeMuro?

Ultimately, the big news is that Hyundai is canceling this to make way for, much like the original Genesis, Hyundai Genesis kind of made way for the Genesis brand. Like, there's always with the Koreans, there always seems to be like a little toe dip into the pool before that you like cannonball it.

• 34:05Speaker 02

Good God, I'm so glad Nick didn't say that.

• 34:08Doug DeMuro?

It's true, though. Like, they've done this in a lot, there's been a lot of ways that this has happened, right? Like, the, the, the big Genesis, and then there was the G9, and then it became a brand. The, the Hyundai Veracruz, and then they came out with the Palisade. Like, there's all these, like, we're gonna try this and see how it goes, and then we're gonna try to do it actually, like, big. And that the next one will be the thing.

• 34:27Speaker 03

You know what? The only brand that I think did this well, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

• 34:31Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 34:32Speaker 03

It was kind of like a.

• 34:33Speaker 02

Which they followed up with, with what?

• 34:35Doug DeMuro?

  Well, they did it.

• 34:35Speaker 02

  It's like two generations.

• 34:36Doug DeMuro?

I thought that car was cool. It was desirable. It was like compelling.

• 34:40Speaker 02

It was hot. At the time, it was hot. The avalanche probably exists because of it. The avalanche definitely exists because of it. That that whole segment was spawned at that time and the sport track started it all. However, I would argue that eventually it had the same fate, which was like, you can't do much with it and eventually you just have to come. The Ridgeline though, still exists? Well, but the first gen, the second gen Ridgeline is very different from the first gen. It's worse. Oh, wow. In every single measurable way. The first one was cooler. Yeah. They didn't sell many. Nope.

• 35:04Doug DeMuro?

Uh, Santa Cruz dead, door handles alive.

• 35:07Speaker 02

No, no. Well, dead, maybe. China has banned the style of door handles popularized by Tesla, where they're hidden and electronic only. So basically what they've actually done is they've mandated that starting in 2027, all vehicles must have mechanical releases inside and out for door handles.

• 35:25Doug DeMuro?

Is this, is this a safety feature?

• 35:27Speaker 02

They've had a couple of pretty high profile crashes where the car then lost power entirely and they couldn't open the doors. Like first responders couldn't open the doors at all. Passengers inside couldn't open the doors.

• 35:38Doug DeMuro?

So, so I'm a little confused. So the Model S, the door handle, you walk up to the car, they pop out.

• 35:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 35:42Doug DeMuro?

In this door handle, which is from a Model Y, it doesn't do that, but it is electronic. You push part of it.

• 35:47Speaker 02

But I think it's not mechanical.

• 35:49Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, it's definitely electronic.

• 35:50Speaker 02

So you, if there would need to be like a mechanical, right? You pull it further and then it'll, which is by the way, how some work on that.

• 35:55Doug DeMuro?

Automakers have been going crazy experimenting with all sorts of different door handle technology. In part because shaving the door handle, which essentially is what this does, is an aero benefit. And by having this be a thing, I wonder what effect that will have on future door handles.

• 36:10Speaker 02

  Probably truly some.

• 36:11Doug DeMuro?

If we go back to normal door handles again.

• 36:13Speaker 02

I mean, you can still have them be mostly hidden or like have a little bit of a spot where you can grab it or some extern, some third or second door handle that allows for that. I get it from a safety perspective. There's also been some high profile ones in the US.

• 36:25Doug DeMuro?

  Yep, yep.

• 36:25Speaker 02

And I wouldn't be shocked if the US falls suit in their own way.

• 36:27Doug DeMuro?

I'm going to tell you one thing. You know what car had electronic door handles first? C6 Corvette.

• 36:34Speaker 02

Maybe the C5. With it interior mechanical release and an exterior mechanical release.

• 36:38Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I don't actually know if they were first. People are gonna be like, no, actually such and such was first. But I remember like in the C6, it was like, this is a bizarre, like you push a button to get out, like whoa.

• 36:48Speaker 02

It was wild. There have been real issues with these and so it's not a surprise.

• 36:51Doug DeMuro?

It's not great. Tesla, interestingly, in the front doors does have a mechanical release. In the rear doors does not have a mechanical release.

• 37:00Speaker 02

And in some other cars, I think the Mikey is one of these. There is a mechanical release, but you have to remove a portion of the door panel. Which maybe if your car is on fire isn't something you want to.

• 37:07Doug DeMuro?

We'll have to read the Chinese regulation closely to see. Now, the reason this is a new story for us is because whatever China dictates on these cars is gonna end up affecting cars that are sold in the US market too. I have no doubt. Automakers aren't gonna develop multiple door handles, so we're gonna see some changes. One thing that I will note, people in the north are gonna be celebrating this. You know, every time these electronic

• 37:25Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 37:25Doug DeMuro?

pop out door handles and electronic, ah, what happens when it freezes? I mock them, but actually it's a good point.

• 37:33Speaker 02

I will say, in China, 60% of the top 100 selling models have door handles that would be impacted.

• 37:40Doug DeMuro?

I'm not surprised. It's like the hot thing in basically every car. Rivians are like this.

• 37:45Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 37:45Doug DeMuro?

Lucids are like this. You know what's not like this is the Kia K4 hatchback.

• 37:50Speaker 02

  This looks good.

• 37:51Doug DeMuro?

We got that over there. All right, next, oh, Hellcat Durango. Hellcat Durango lawsuit is dead. I read the whole thing. It was great stuff. So, back in 20, they come out with the Hellcat Durango, which by the way, I still think is probably my favorite Hellcat car.

• 38:04Speaker 02

  I'm obsessed. I love that. 100%.

• 38:07Doug DeMuro?

Like, what the hell was that?

• 38:10Speaker 02

I remember when you reviewed it in like Charlotte or something, yeah.

• 38:13Doug DeMuro?

Amazing situation, obviously. Come out with the car and apparently there was advertising that said it was gonna be limited edition.

• 38:20Speaker 02

It was the last call model.

• 38:22Doug DeMuro?

Imp lied that it would only be 3,000 units.

• 38:24Speaker 02

  Subtly hinted, last call.

• 38:26Doug DeMuro?

So, people bought the car, paid over sticker because they thought it was gonna be a super limited thing. Obviously, what ended up happening is they sold more of them, which I think is crazy on its face to begin with.

• 38:35Speaker 02

Did they sell more of them or there was a lawsuit?

• 38:36Doug DeMuro?

That they continued selling them. Like, I can't believe people bought them. I can't believe they came out with them. I'm thrilled it exists. So, the lawsuit, the owners sued Dodge saying, hey, wait a minute, you know, you said you'd have a limited car. The judge rejected, the case was dismissed entirely. Because the plaintiffs failed to show that the automaker intended to break the promise at the time the original statements were made. Boy.

• 39:00Doug DeMuro?

If only I could get that to work with my children. Hey, listen, I know I lied to you, but I didn't intend, when I first said it, I thought it was gonna happen.

• 39:09Speaker 02

It is kind of interesting. Basically, they didn't plan to make another one, but you have to allow the manufacturer to change their mind. But Tim Kaneskis, who's now again in charge of Dodge, said, "The 2021 Dodge Durango is a single model year run, ensuring it will be a special sought-after performance SUV. You've only got one shot to buy it."

• 39:28Doug DeMuro?

So I get, I get the anger. How does the automaker get away with this?

• 39:31Speaker 02

I get, I get the anger.

• 39:32Speaker 03

That does sound like a used car salesman pushing it hard.

• 39:35Doug DeMuro?

And then, oh, we're gonna do many more model years. I will say, to Tim Kaneskis's credit, the 21 model year was just a single model year run. But then they also did a 22, what he didn't say...

• 39:46Speaker 02

  They skipped a year, right?

• 39:46Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I think they did. What he didn't say was there was also gonna be a 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26. But that, that 20, which by the way, they were also single model year run.

• 39:55Speaker 02

Can we be clear about this?

• 39:56Doug DeMuro?

You only had one chance to buy a 24 Durango Hellcat.

• 39:58Speaker 02

I'm gonna come to Tim Kaneskis's defense. That's crazy. He thought at the time that there was no world that the federal administration would allow him to sell this incredibly poor economy, high emission vehicle for longer than they did.

• 40:13Doug DeMuro?

He's thinking, not only, not only is Biden gonna kill this car, but there is no way that anyone is even gonna buy it.

• 40:21Speaker 02

Right. They're gonna, they're gonna want the Dodge Wagoneer S, or the Jeep Wagoneer S. And then they didn't.

• 40:27Speaker 03

The other part of the story is, do you feel bad for the people that are trying to speculate and make money off of a Durango? Like, of course that didn't work out well for you. What did you expect?

• 40:37Doug DeMuro?

  You know what?

• 40:37Speaker 02

  Fair point.

• 40:38Doug DeMuro?

You know what the irony is? I bet eventually it will work out. Like, I look at some of these super high-performance, limited edition, I mean, not a lot like the stock market, but you look at sort of the GMC Typhoon-type cars where these super limited edition, which this, even though they made it for many more model years, will remain a limited car. I'm looking at TrackHog prices. We just had a Durango Hellcat sell on the site the other day for 55.

• 40:58Speaker 02

  With mods and miles.

• 40:59Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah. Mods and miles.

• 41:02Speaker 02

I did not intentionally call a different site.

• 41:04Doug DeMuro?

Like, there's still money, and I bet you that, I bet you that if you truly were speculating, and you parked it, and you did no miles like people did with their demons, what have you done?

• 41:12Speaker 02

  Just keep going.

• 41:13Speaker 03

  Updating a Slack.

• 41:15Doug DeMuro?

  As it requires hourly.

• 41:17Speaker 02

  Pull up that.

• 41:17Doug DeMuro?

For no reason. Yeah, but just, I mean,

• 41:20Speaker 02

  That's such.

• 41:20Doug DeMuro?

If you were advising someone to say, I want, become a car flipper. Here's a good asset for you to invest in. Dodge Durango. I mean, just like, it is the worst advice you could have.

• 41:30Speaker 02

  The only one.

• 41:31Doug DeMuro?

Get a, get a CA, get, get something like a Durango.

• 41:34Speaker 02

  So true.

• 41:35Speaker 03

Don't forget about the one that you should flip.

• 41:37Doug DeMuro?

  Uh huh.

• 41:38Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 41:38Doug DeMuro?

Like, it's not illegal to be stupid.

• 41:40Speaker 02

  This was a flipper car.

• 41:41Doug DeMuro?

That was, and the dude made a car handle. Cause I reviewed it the second time. That does great wheels. Uh, sorry for you Durango owners, I totally feel your pain. Uh, but the good news is you have a Durango Hellcat in your garage.

• 41:53Speaker 02

  That is pretty good consolation.

• 41:56Doug DeMuro?

Uh, all right, next news story, I can't believe you're still doing the news. Toyota has teased a three row, nobody cares about.

• 42:00Speaker 02

It might be a minivan, but it also might be an electric Highlander.

• 42:02Doug DeMuro?

Why are we saying minivan? We think it's got a lot.

• 42:04Speaker 02

Something about the door says minivan to me. But it is, it is almost certainly an electric Highlander.

• 42:09Doug DeMuro?

Electric Highlander is a big deal.

• 42:11Speaker 02

Or a Highlander replacement in general.

• 42:12Doug DeMuro?

Electric Highlander would be a big deal. I thought Toyota wasn't investing in electric. I guess we'll find out.

• 42:15Speaker 02

But they have the BZ, it might just be a normal Highlander.

• 42:17Doug DeMuro?

Well, what is a gear lever? Does a gear lever show, is it a hybrid or electric? It doesn't seem to have a gear lever, does it?

• 42:22Speaker 02

  Right.

• 42:22Doug DeMuro?

  That's saying.

• 42:23Speaker 02

Or that could be the gear lever.

• 42:24Doug DeMuro?

  That's saying EV to me.

• 42:26Speaker 02

A redesign Sienna would be nice. It's not an old product, I just don't think it looks nice.

• 42:30Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 42:30Speaker 02

  And so I'm really supportive.

• 42:31Doug DeMuro?

But it's the best one by far.

• 42:33Speaker 02

  All right, that's the story.

• 42:34Doug DeMuro?

  Three row Toyota coming, maybe.

• 42:35Speaker 02

By the way, I want to say, before I move to the next story.

• 42:38Doug DeMuro?

I can't believe you still have more news.

• 42:39Speaker 02

I know, incredibly, we have one more. Nissan today was at NADA, which is a large dealer thing. And they showed apparently pictures of the new Xterra.

• 42:49Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 42:50Speaker 02

I've been trying to find these pictures of the new Xterra. So maybe we'll talk about it next week.

• 42:54Doug DeMuro?

  New Xterra coming.

• 42:55Speaker 03

Nissan was also talking a big game about growing 50% in sales volume.

• 42:59Speaker 02

They're planning on, not 50% next year, but they do have pretty ambitious growth.

• 43:03Doug DeMuro?

  You get down to here.

• 43:04Speaker 02

  Good luck.

• 43:04Doug DeMuro?

50% growth isn't that hard to do.

• 43:05Speaker 02

  Yeah, I guess that's true.

• 43:06Doug DeMuro?

And, and by the way, new Xterra, you and me could make one in our garage. You take a Frontier, you, you paper mache a body onto it. This is not difficult. It's like what they did with the Santa Cruz.

• 43:15Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 43:16Doug DeMuro?

  And they've been selling 25,000 a year.

• 43:18Speaker 02

  The opposite.

• 43:19Doug DeMuro?

They did the opposite. Uh, final news story, Ford is doing something with the Chinese. Okay, I want to move on to the Todd Cars.

• 43:25Speaker 02

I'm okay with that, that's fine.

• 43:27Doug DeMuro?

I want to move on to the Todd Cars segment, which is brought to you by Nick's YouTube channel. Nick Rochon, is that what it is? Or is it Crazy Nick? Crazy Nick, we call him, Nick Rochon. Uh, he's got an SLR, folks, come on. Subscribe.

• 43:39Speaker 02

  And the SLR broke down.

• 43:41Speaker 03

It did, a little works again.

• 43:43Doug DeMuro?

Don't tell them that, make them go to the media. The SLR broke down, what's gonna happen next? I'm gonna lose my YouTube channel.

• 43:51Speaker 03

If you're bidding on cars and bids, whether it's a pristine 90's icon like the Fiat Multipla, a high horsepower Resto Mod, or a manual swap Lamborghini Murcielago, you already know these aren't just used cars, they're pieces of automotive culture. • 45:18Speaker 03

  Hagerty, never stop driving.

• 45:20Doug DeMuro?

Okay, I want to, in the Talk Car segment, the only thing I want to discuss today, me personally, is the E55 station wagon, okay?

• 45:27Speaker 03

  No, no, don't, don't.

• 45:29Doug DeMuro?

  Different from yours.

• 45:30Speaker 03

Cut it. Sean, Sean, make a note, cut.

• 45:32Doug DeMuro?

Pull up, Filippo, pull up, we've never sold one that I want.

• 45:35Speaker 03

It is at $8,000, which is way too much if you're thinking of jumping in.

• 45:39Doug DeMuro?

  We have an E55.

• 45:41Speaker 03

  This one's radically different.

• 45:42Doug DeMuro?

But you're talking about the SQ.

• 45:44Speaker 03

This is, I want it, no one else bid.

• 45:46Doug DeMuro?

You don't, you've never sold one that I want. No, but I'll pull up this. No, no, no, no. Close enough. I want this body. Yeah. E55 wagon with a third row. Left-hand drive. This is, yeah.

• 45:58Speaker 03

Find one in the UK, I'll consider it.

• 46:02Speaker 03

If you find a Hong Kong domestic market example, we'll talk.

• 46:05Doug DeMuro?

I've noted because that one was right-hand drive. So, the E55 wagon on this body, so the 210 body, I need either a 2000 or a 2001. Was only sold as an E55 wagon overseas. I want, I need one with a third row and it needs to be silver.

• 46:21Doug DeMuro?

But only a post-face lift car. We're finding a lot of pre-face lift cars with third rows. I only want a 2000 or a 2001. Now I'm gonna do this like I did with the Arena 993 Turbo, okay? I'm gonna start blasting it out in every pod. I want, yeah, send Nick a message. I want a 2000, 2001 E55 station wagon with a third row, okay? Does everybody understand? Do you understand what I'm looking for?

• 46:44Speaker 03

I understand. And you're gonna get flooded with non-examples of what you just described. Different generations, different motors.

• 46:52Doug DeMuro?

I got a pre-face lift, I got a black one. No. 2000, 2001 silver car with a third row, E55 only. We're not doing E430s. If you have one, [email protected]. [email protected]. Do you understand?

• 47:07Speaker 03

  Sounds right.

• 47:08Doug DeMuro?

And I don't, don't say anything about his bad color G-Wagon. It's, we're gonna move on from that today. E55 wagon. If it's in Europe, I don't care. Asia, I will import it. Find me the car.

• 47:20Speaker 03

On a related note, the E55 currently on your site, the next generation I'm very much into. This one is high mileage, 201. High mileage is air quotes.

• 47:29Doug DeMuro?

  Are you buying this?

• 47:30Speaker 03

I'm, I intend to potentially bid.

• 47:34Doug DeMuro?

  Wait, this is, okay.

• 47:35Speaker 03

It's got some dings on the carfax.

• 47:37Doug DeMuro?

  These are reliable cars.

• 47:39Speaker 03

It does not have a third row, but yeah, it's got service. I really like this car. I drove a different one over the past weekend.

• 47:45Doug DeMuro?

This one has a Rentech ECU too.

• 47:46Speaker 03

  I know, I know.

• 47:47Doug DeMuro?

And you were saying the one you drove, you didn't think was fast enough?

• 47:50Speaker 03

Well, I mean, this also has like a supercharger pulley, a couple of things. So, this one, and you have a B5 RS4 on the site, both of them. I've never bought a car on the site and I really wanna fix that this year. So, I'm refreshing my watch list a lot.

• 48:02Doug DeMuro?

  The RS4, the RS4?

• 48:03Speaker 03

The RS4 is great. It's owned by the founder of Vivid Racing, which was like the site. I'm sure they're still very popular, but... So, it's like owned by like the type of enthusiast you wanna buy from. It's got a bunch of nice mods. I know who we disagree on what that means, but... 034 Motorsports, like bushings and like minor stuff that improves just how tight and good it feels.

• 48:25Doug DeMuro?

I agree. I would put the rear white... Back on.

• 48:27Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 48:28Doug DeMuro?

No, I mean, aero, you know.

• 48:30Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 48:31Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 48:31Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:32Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 48:32Speaker 03

Notably aero car. I think this is the greatest Audi of all time.

• 48:34Doug DeMuro?

I I drove one while I was in Arizona and I loved it.

• 48:37Speaker 03

  The R8 exists.

• 48:38Doug DeMuro?

  The R8 is next.

• 48:40Speaker 03

  Yeah, I'll take that.

• 48:41Doug DeMuro?

Norwegian plates. This, uh, this is, you loved it.

• 48:43Speaker 03

The problem with the R8 is everyone's like, oh, you should have got a Huracan. There's no equivalent for the B5 R4. We're like, oh, you should have gotten a cooler wagon. Find me one.

• 48:51Doug DeMuro?

  Find me one.

• 48:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:52Doug DeMuro?

There ain't one. There ain't one that drives better. You enjoy driving it?

• 48:54Speaker 03

I loved it. It was so usable and enjoyable and pleasant. Yet it had like great turbo boost and it kicked and you're like, yeah.

• 49:01Doug DeMuro?

It's also just the perfect size. And by then they had dialed in the steering feel. This is what I had wished the RS2 was when I bought it.

• 49:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:07Doug DeMuro?

And I still think the RS2 looks better, looks cooler, is cooler. It does not even come close to driving as well as this car. It's not even close.

• 49:16Speaker 03

Maybe, but I I think this is also aged incredibly well inside and out. It looks on the inside, it it has like the right amount of nostalgia, but it's still a nice place to be. On the outside, it's special enough that any person in the car recognizes that it's not just an S4.

• 49:28Doug DeMuro?

Totally. I I I think that this is like truly, I think the best Audi of all time. One of the all time great. Powertrain is amazing. The steering feel is amazing. I always loved even a B5 A4, but like this was like the ultimate iteration of the platform. And you know a point that someone made to me the i- in our comments? The press color for this car is silver.

• 49:47Speaker 03

  No, really?

• 49:48Doug DeMuro?

Sure. Like, think about all the ma- all the materials, the advertisements, everything from back in the day. It was silver. It was not the, now, everyone, there is a, everyone wants the blue and the blue is like the Audi color.

• 49:57Speaker 03

  It's such a premium.

• 49:58Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 49:59Speaker 03

Yeah. I mean, it's not like 10% more. It's like

• 50:01Doug DeMuro?

  I know.

• 50:01Speaker 03

  Tens of thousands more.

• 50:02Doug DeMuro?

  4GT heritage.

• 50:04Speaker 03

  Yeah, it's, it's a lot to swallow.

• 50:06Doug DeMuro?

So you're gonna buy either this or the E55?

• 50:08Speaker 03

  Maybe.

• 50:09Doug DeMuro?

You're gonna put a bid on either?

• 50:10Speaker 03

I don't want maybes, Nick. We doing this? Well, it, I, depends on how high the bidding goes. Do I intend to throw my hat in the ring? Yes.

• 50:16Doug DeMuro?

Nick, have you bid on either?

• 50:18Speaker 03

  Nick, go bid.

• 50:18Doug DeMuro?

You know what? Nick, come on. Step up. Step up to the plate.

• 50:23Speaker 03

With the multiple going for sale, I I I do suddenly feel the need to replace it with something. And unlike the multiple, I went something with a little more power.

• 50:31Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 50:31Speaker 03

A little bit more, uh, driving dynamics.

• 50:33Doug DeMuro?

Your only fun car right now is your SLR.

• 50:35Speaker 03

Right. No, I mean, I think the P38 is really fun, but in a different way.

• 50:38Doug DeMuro?

Nope. So your only fun car, oh, thank you.

• 50:42Doug DeMuro?

I've been trying to push them, I I want the audience to know, I've been trying to push them into a Diablo.

• 50:49Doug DeMuro?

There is a Diablo for sale that is not listed, that is available to Nick, that I have been begging him to pursue. He's not gonna do it. He's gonna regret it. Couple of years, he's gonna sell his SLR. He's gonna go after Diablo then. It will be priced out. You will not be able to afford anymore, and I will rub this in your face that you could have had it.

• 51:06Speaker 02

Can we know that a Diablo and a 205,000 mile E55 are on a different price bracket? This is not important to Doug.

• 51:13Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but Diablo's are going up in value.

• 51:15Speaker 02

  30x difference.

• 51:16Doug DeMuro?

Diablo's are going up in value. Like my Ford GT, right? I have made 150 grand in that car. You're never gonna make 150 grand on an E55 wagon. But if you have a 2000 or a 2001 model, Silverwood's third row, send a ma- I'm so serious about this. I will buy it today. Sean at carsandbids.com. S-E-A-N. Sean. The Irish spelling. Do you understand?

• 51:39Speaker 02

  The more common selling?

• 51:40Doug DeMuro?

I don't know. Uh, okay. There's that. Um, Nick, what else you got for us?

• 51:46Speaker 03

You got? I came back from Arizona Car Week.

• 51:48Doug DeMuro?

  You did.

• 51:49Speaker 03

  That was really fun.

• 51:49Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 51:50Speaker 03

As someone who lives in the online auction world, seeing the in-person is a really interesting event. Well, for one-

• 51:56Doug DeMuro?

  Much worse, of course.

• 51:58Speaker 03

They're just, they're just different. Like, it's not like online and offline versions of the same thing. Like, it's just totally... The way, first of all, it's really fast, right? Like, you've got seconds to make decisions. Like, I wish you had a minute between each bid to, like, think about it. The, the energy of the room, but then also, like, it's like the LA Auto Show. Like, there's an exhibitor hall. You could buy hot tubs, cigars, get tattoos.

• 52:20Doug DeMuro?

You could buy all that stuff.

• 52:22Speaker 03

I have a friend, two friends that bought hot tubs there, oddly enough. And I think it was like that we didn't win the car, but like, I've been thinking of a hot tub anyways. It's like, it's like this Vegas level of just like, all your logic goes out the window, and you're just like, I'm buying something.

• 52:35Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, uh, I agree. I totally agree. I love our site, and I think there's actually benefits for both buyer and seller on our pla- on a platform such as ours. However, there is something fun about the electric feel of being in the room at a physical auction. Sometimes that leads to interesting results that people later regret.

• 52:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:56Doug DeMuro?

Buyers and sellers, to be honest. I think having the real time to like, really think through the car is, is can be significantly beneficial. But it's fun.

• 53:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:04Doug DeMuro?

  It's more fun.

• 53:05Speaker 03

  And I did see.

• 53:05Doug DeMuro?

  It's more of a spectacle.

• 53:06Speaker 03

There was, uh, without naming names, a handful of cars that I saw that were bought on either Cars and Bids or Bring the Trailer, sold at Barrett-Jackson for less than they pay. You know what I mean? Like, it can go either direction. It's not that one is better or worse necessarily. It depends on the car. But the experience of going to one was really fun.

• 53:23Doug DeMuro?

Certainly interesting to check out. Even, even if you're a huge fan of our platform, even if you work for our platform, even if you like the Bring the Trailer, it's worth spending time going to online.

• 53:34Speaker 03

The other thing that I'll, I'll get on your soapbox as a non-Cars and Bids employee that I can say that you all maybe can't. People complain about buyer's fees on Cars and Bids or Bring the Trailer. It was $500 to register, just to register to bid for the privilege of there. Then I had to show proof of funds, including like, or take out a loan in order to be approved a bid up to a certain amount.

• 53:55Doug DeMuro?

Now, I'll tell you, you make crazy Nick show proof of funds, you're gonna run into some sketchy stuff. Can I, alright, here's one bank account and now here, here's another bank account. And if you add those two together and then think about how much credit line I have in this bank account.

• 54:08Speaker 03

Yeah. The, the also, um, there's a buyer fee and a seller fee.

• 54:12Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 54:13Speaker 03

Both of which are 10 to 12% depending on that. So like the four to five percent, or the, sorry, 5% is it?

• 54:19Doug DeMuro?

  5%.

• 54:19Speaker 03

  I should know this.

• 54:20Doug DeMuro?

  Capital 75%.

• 54:21Speaker 03

Is a bargain. So like, yeah, complain all you want. This isn't something that the online auction houses made up. In fact, they do it way cheaper.

• 54:28Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, so much, it's insane.

• 54:29Speaker 03

Huge, huge benefit. It does factor in, like, for me, when I was thinking all those, I'm like, okay, immediately add at least 10%.

• 54:35Doug DeMuro?

Huge benefit to buyer and seller, honestly. Buyer obviously pays less, but seller gets more for the car on these platforms. Uh, sometimes you will see results on the physical, at the physical auctions, like, oh, this sold for way more than you saw at Bring the Trailer Cars and Bids. Well, start, let's start playing with the numbers, right? Because there's a 10% buyer's fee, there's a 10% seller's fee. Those are factored in, right? How much, how much more would the buyer have paid if there were no fees? Well, you'll never know because those guys make sure to get theirs. Whereas we democratize the platform. We're basically running a charity, a nonprofit organization.

• 55:07Speaker 02

Also, you know, the table in the back of the room, less likely to bid on cars than bids.

• 55:12Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 55:14Doug DeMuro?

That's another thing that happens at the, at the physical auctions.

• 55:17Speaker 02

Obviously not accusing anybody in particular.

• 55:19Doug DeMuro?

The lampshade in the back places more bids than anybody else. The, the auctioneer also won't ding the rearview mirror as they're pulling off the stage. Wild.

• 55:28Speaker 02

So an F-50 got purchased at one of the auctions, not during car.

• 55:34Speaker 02

The person driving it out, who are just like random people from the local civic society or something like that, hit it on, on, on a wall.

• 55:41Doug DeMuro?

  Smash it.

• 55:42Speaker 02

  Like Doug did.

• 55:43Doug DeMuro?

I would want so much remedied. I would want like an unbelievable amount of arbitration at that, at that point, especially because it's all over Instagram. Okay. Uh, I want to move on now to, oh, you want to talk about something? The Abarth and the multiple. Do we want to talk about how they're for sale? Your desk for people to buy them?

• 55:57Speaker 02

Yeah, pretty much. I can sell my own car. Uh, I, by the way, I want to be really clear. I've added a comment in this, in my auction where I describe every single thing that I can think of that's wrong with the car, like quite at length.

• 56:10Doug DeMuro?

Wait, wait, go, go, go down. I want to see.

• 56:11Speaker 02

  All five of them?

• 56:12Doug DeMuro?

  See the comment.

• 56:12Speaker 02

  All five of the things?

• 56:13Doug DeMuro?

  All right.

• 56:15Speaker 02

I have done the bare minimum.

• 56:16Doug DeMuro?

Oh, wow. He's bragging about his Firehawks.

• 56:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 56:19Doug DeMuro?

I've done the bare minimum to maintain this car.

• 56:22Speaker 02

I want to make that really clear. One time, one of the lights stopped working and I let it sit for a year until Ken borrowed it and then he put a new fuse in. That's the level we're talking about.

• 56:30Doug DeMuro?

Man, this is, this is a great, it's fun, it's toss spaceable.

• 56:34Speaker 02

  Oh, wow. That's embarrassing.

• 56:35Doug DeMuro?

It is easy to drive. But regardless, so there's some smoke coming. This car has.

• 56:39Speaker 02

  I haven't seen that happen.

• 56:40Doug DeMuro?

There are no known issues. The car has smoke coming out of the tin pipe under acceleration. There is an oil leak in the driveway.

• 56:47Speaker 02

  No, maybe.

• 56:48Doug DeMuro?

This flaps around in the wind. Something I would have ghostwritten for him. Did you get Tim Koeniskas to write this about the 21?

• 56:56Doug DeMuro?

This is your one chance to buy this perfect car, except for the oil leak. The, the other important thing here is.

• 57:02Speaker 02

The oil leak I have not seen happen. I want to be clear.

• 57:04Doug DeMuro?

What do you mean you have not seen them?

• 57:06Speaker 02

There was a shop note from the first time I got an oil change saying that there was evidence of an oil leak in like the oil, in the tray or whatever. I have not, I've parked that car in my driveway for three years. I've not seen any oil on the ground. The oil level has never changed, etc.

• 57:19Doug DeMuro?

  It's never changed.

• 57:20Speaker 02

No, no, no. The oil has changed. The oil level did not change. The smoke coming out of the tailpipe was weird. I had Pennant and some other friends tell me this was happening, but then we filmed the whole video where we drag raced it.

• 57:32Doug DeMuro?

Filippo, I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't want to get into the specifics in the car. It is already vastly higher than it deserves to be.

• 57:39Speaker 03

Mr. Magoo sees nothing wrong with the car. We're good.

• 57:42Doug DeMuro?

At $5,100, someone is doing you a favor today on this car.

• 57:46Speaker 02

I wholly agree. Okay, we gotta move on to the market report, which is sponsored by the Nick YouTube channel. The Nick YouTube channel.

• 57:54Speaker 03

Can we, actually, I want it to be sponsored by N-N-N-Nick on Cars and Bids. Please go follow my seller profile.

• 58:01Speaker 02

Oh, you want to be like that?

• 58:02Speaker 03

I'm number five and Filippo's number four on the leaderboard.

• 58:04Speaker 02

  Wait, go to the leaderboard.

• 58:05Speaker 03

And I would really like to, you don't have to unfollow Filippo. No one's asking you to do that. But if you could please just follow me in addition to or instead of Filippo, that would help.

• 58:15Speaker 02

  I shouldn't try to type when there's a...

• 58:16Speaker 03

  Enhance.

• 58:17Doug DeMuro?

  Okay, so...

• 58:18Speaker 03

So go to the followers count on the far right. I've been stuck at number five for a while.

• 58:23Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 58:23Speaker 03

  606 for 632.

• 58:25Doug DeMuro?

Folks, folks, if you're watching this, unfollow Filippo.

• 58:30Speaker 02

  Don't.

• 58:31Doug DeMuro?

  And follow Nick.

• 58:33Speaker 02

  Don't.

• 58:33Speaker 03

I think give Ed Bullion a follow too.

• 58:36Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 58:36Speaker 03

  Let's just, let's manipulate these a little.

• 58:38Speaker 02

From the Cars and Bids account, Ed Bullion is now followed.

• 58:41Speaker 03

Okay, he's sold a lot of cars with us.

• 58:42Doug DeMuro?

I want to talk about the, a couple of things. I want to talk about the R129 and the R230. Can we just do that really quick?

• 58:49Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 58:49Doug DeMuro?

Talking Benzes. It hit me the other day. We sold the nice R129 the other day, and it hit me that that car will never rise in value ever.

• 58:55Speaker 03

Yep, there's so many of them.

• 58:56Doug DeMuro?

It simply, this car, it simply will never rise in value ever. This was a late model in a cool color. It sold for 11.

• 59:04Speaker 03

Yeah, that seemed like the right price.

• 59:06Doug DeMuro?

Because this car will never rise in value. And same with the R230. I walked by an R230 on the street the other day, and there's people like, you walk by, people are like, oh, that's, that's a new... Well, it's also an $8,000 car.

• 59:17Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 59:18Doug DeMuro?

  That's an SL55 that sold for 14. That's a regular SL550 that sold for 11.

• 59:23Speaker 03

  Forty-five thousand.

• 59:24Doug DeMuro?

Miles. Neither of these cars will ever be worth anything in the history of time, but they're pretty good.

• 59:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:33Doug DeMuro?

Like, if you want a cool, kind of show-it-off type of car.

• 59:36Speaker 03

A second home car, like, it's perfect or something like that.

• 59:39Doug DeMuro?

  They're also pretty reliable, generally.

• 59:41Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:41Doug DeMuro?

The 129 is a little bit more reliable, but they're both pretty stout cars.

• 59:46Speaker 03

  Yep, buy one.

• 59:48Doug DeMuro?

They never, you will not make any money. You will only lose money. But it's a pretty good value, I think.

• 59:53Speaker 03

  I don't think you'll lose money. You'll spend money.

• 59:55Doug DeMuro?

You're gonna spend money maintaining it, and you won't sell it for anything, so.

• 59:57Speaker 03

No, but you won't sell it for that much less.

• 59:59Doug DeMuro?

  No, I mean, the floor.

• 1:00:00Speaker 03

  Is 10.

• 1:00:01Doug DeMuro?

The cars are selling for 8, so like, you can only lose so much on these things. I really think those cars are pretty cool for the number.

• 1:00:09Speaker 02

• 1:01:35Doug DeMuro?

  So bad.

• 1:01:37Speaker 02

  Cool car.

• 1:01:37Doug DeMuro?

Early WRXs are so cheap. And I think it's crazy. Go back to it. Let's talk about this for a second. They're so cheap, even though they are cool as hell.

• 1:01:46Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:01:47Doug DeMuro?

This car started the whole thing.

• 1:01:48Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:01:49Speaker 03

What's the last Japanese car you've owned?

• 1:01:51Doug DeMuro?

I have a Sequoia right now.

• 1:01:53Speaker 03

I mean, like, an enthusiast car.

• 1:01:55Doug DeMuro?

  Uh.

• 1:01:56Speaker 02

He has a Sequoia TRD Pro.

• 1:01:57Doug DeMuro?

  Yes.

• 1:01:58Speaker 03

So the S-Cargo doesn't count. This doesn't count either?

• 1:02:00Doug DeMuro?

  Sequoia TRD Pro.

• 1:02:02Speaker 03

  S-Cargo.

• 1:02:02Doug DeMuro?

  So, Japanese.

• 1:02:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:02:04Doug DeMuro?

Uh, I had a 2013 Land Cruiser only. I sold it two years ago. Does that count?

• 1:02:10Speaker 03

  I would, I guess.

• 1:02:11Doug DeMuro?

  Well, I mean, sure.

• 1:02:12Speaker 03

Okay, I was thinking like a sporty vehicle.

• 1:02:14Doug DeMuro?

  I don't, I had a Skyline GT-R back in 2015.

• 1:02:18Speaker 03

  Yeah, that was.

• 1:02:19Doug DeMuro?

But since then, I've had a lot of different Japanese cars.

• 1:02:21Speaker 03

  I think it's time.

• 1:02:21Doug DeMuro?

And a Korean car, and I bet that you don't distinguish.

• 1:02:26Speaker 03

  That was rude.

• 1:02:30Speaker 03

  Maybe true, but definitely rude.

• 1:02:33Doug DeMuro?

I think those Subarus, this is gonna sell for more because it's a late production car. It's a Type RA. Would you just click on the?

• 1:02:39Speaker 03

No, I wanna see what else we have.

• 1:02:41Doug DeMuro?

  No, go back, go back.

• 1:02:42Speaker 03

Do some casual browsing in the middle of the pod.

• 1:02:44Doug DeMuro?

I think this is such a cool car. It's, it's, the mileage is unknown, but it's, it seems pretty, um, it's pretty low wear. It's not crazy modified. It only has a few little things that would take off the mudflaps day one. But these are cool cars. Early WRXs are cool cars in general. And I don't understand why these don't bring more money. This car started the whole thing. The whole thing.

• 1:03:05Speaker 02

Agreed. Should take, bring way more money.

• 1:03:08Doug DeMuro?

  You want one?

• 1:03:09Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:03:09Doug DeMuro?

Why not? They do wagons. Have you ever seen the badging? It's this giant thing.

• 1:03:14Speaker 03

  That's stock?

• 1:03:15Doug DeMuro?

  That's, oh, completely.

• 1:03:16Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 1:03:17Speaker 02

But it says WRX, two different places.

• 1:03:19Doug DeMuro?

That is not stock. That was added.

• 1:03:20Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:03:21Doug DeMuro?

That is how it was done.

• 1:03:22Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 1:03:22Doug DeMuro?

Nick, don't you want this car? Why don't you get this? They did a wagon.

• 1:03:25Speaker 02

I, they did. It's a small wagon. It's not notable.

• 1:03:28Speaker 03

I do, I do, no, I'm in, I'm into these in particular.

• 1:03:31Doug DeMuro?

You've never had Japanese cars ever, have you?

• 1:03:34Speaker 03

I had a TSX for a minute. A Tip TSX like 15 years ago.

• 1:03:38Speaker 02

  Yep, for two months.

• 1:03:39Doug DeMuro?

It's a good engine, though. What else?

• 1:03:42Speaker 03

  That's it.

• 1:03:43Doug DeMuro?

You've never had Jap- I'm telling you, you gotta get a Z32.

• 1:03:45Speaker 03

You gotta get a Z32. I would like to spend some time in that later.

• 1:03:49Doug DeMuro?

  It's so good.

• 1:03:50Speaker 02

  Or a nice NSX.

• 1:03:52Speaker 03

I still want a Pajero Evo.

• 1:03:53Doug DeMuro?

Okay, we have to move on to the questions because we're coming up to the end of this thing and we have to move on to the que-

• 1:03:56Speaker 03

Oh my gosh. I thought we were making this two hours.

• 1:03:59Doug DeMuro?

The questions are brought to you by Cars and Bids, which is the finest whatever. You can take the rest.

• 1:04:06Speaker 02

Yeah, that's right. You nailed it.

• 1:04:09Doug DeMuro?

  Cars and bids!

• 1:04:11Speaker 03

It is the best place to buy a multiple online in America.

• 1:04:14Doug DeMuro?

  This is at 160?

• 1:04:16Speaker 02

And I think it's got a little bit to go.

• 1:04:18Doug DeMuro?

This is a si- we've been selling NSXs for money. You saw the gray one?

• 1:04:22Speaker 02

  This one, yeah.

• 1:04:23Doug DeMuro?

Pull up NSXs that we've sold. We'll go to the questions in a second.

• 1:04:25Speaker 02

The last four NSXs, there was one automatic early, early, early car, but then ours with 300,000 miles.

• 1:04:31Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, including Ferras.

• 1:04:32Speaker 02

Matt Ferras, that had 20,000 miles for 167. This was what, 60,000 miles for 121?

• 1:04:39Doug DeMuro?

You know what was the deal car, honestly, was this, because the blue is really rare and really beautiful and really sought after. And that car had some miles, so you could actually use it. And it didn't go for such crazy money. I mean, the one that's live now is gonna go for ridiculous money, but it's super low miles.

• 1:04:52Speaker 02

Do you think on OE wheels it would've done better?

• 1:04:54Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I do think it would've done better on OE wheels. And I think that that's something that someone ought to do to it.

• 1:04:58Speaker 02

This is gonna do so well.

• 1:04:59Doug DeMuro?

By the way, we have a new NSX on the site too, which I also think is a really-

• 1:05:02Speaker 02

  Which at this point, cheaper.

• 1:05:04Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, yeah.

• 1:05:06Speaker 02

  Same price point, cheaper.

• 1:05:07Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:08Speaker 02

  NA2s have Eclipse.

• 1:05:09Doug DeMuro?

  God, I love this car.

• 1:05:10Speaker 02

  NC1s.

• 1:05:10Doug DeMuro?

This car is so good to drive. You ever driven one of these?

• 1:05:13Speaker 02

No, and I didn't get a chance to drive ours.

• 1:05:14Doug DeMuro?

  You didn't drive ours?

• 1:05:15Speaker 02

No, because once we started getting ready for auction, we told them that we don't.

• 1:05:19Doug DeMuro?

Have you ever driven any NSX?

• 1:05:20Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:05:20Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, you're missing out.

• 1:05:21Speaker 02

I mean, I moved it from right there, right there. Does that count?

• 1:05:23Doug DeMuro?

It's really nice. You know what else is nice, though, in this era? FDRX7. That is a really good car.

• 1:05:29Speaker 02

  And?

• 1:05:30Doug DeMuro?

Z32. And then Mark IV. That's how I would rank them, by the way. If I had to rank them-

• 1:05:34Speaker 02

  R7 above the Z32?

• 1:05:36Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. Oh, FDRX7 is one of the great driving cars in automotive history. It's just also one of the most painful cars to own. FDRX7, I might prefer the driving experience compared to the NSX.

• 1:05:46Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 1:05:47Doug DeMuro?

It weighs 2,000 pounds. It's like a Miata, but like, factory-built, more legit. Like, it's like a more legit Miata. The rotary powertrain is amazing. It is super light. It handles incredibly well. It's just impossible for anybody to-

• 1:06:00Speaker 02

The Z32 eclipsing the Mark IV is interesting.

• 1:06:04Doug DeMuro?

From the driver's driving perspective only.

• 1:06:07Speaker 02

That's the perspective that some of us care about.

• 1:06:09Doug DeMuro?

  Well.

• 1:06:09Speaker 02

  Driving enthusiast.

• 1:06:10Doug DeMuro?

No, there's more to it than that. Oh, come on. There's style, there's, there's design, there's practicality, there's reliability, there's, there's technology, there's all this stuff.

• 1:06:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:06:20Doug DeMuro?

  You think style is equivalent?

• 1:06:21Speaker 02

  No, reliability.

• 1:06:22Doug DeMuro?

The Supra looks better. The Supra is more reliable. The, the, the 2JZ is not only more reliable, but more tunable.

• 1:06:27Speaker 02

That 3 liter is not bad.

• 1:06:29Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, okay. Ah, fine. The questions are brought to you by Nick and his electric charger shirt. Nick, you want to tell us straight about that?

• 1:06:36Speaker 03

I was told this was a gas one. I asked specifically. I think what she said was, which do you want it to be? And then she just agreed with whatever I said next. But yes, this is a gas powered one.

• 1:06:50Doug DeMuro?

Oh man, I hope you bought a couple. If you saved that shirt in 20 years, people would be like, I can't believe there was ever a shirt for this car.

• 1:06:56Speaker 03

  That's a good point.

• 1:06:56Doug DeMuro?

This terrible car that we all want to forget.

• 1:06:59Speaker 03

A Mustang hat. They had lots of good swag.

• 1:07:01Speaker 02

  What'd you give up?

• 1:07:03Doug DeMuro?

They just invited me, by the way, to the press launch for it. Um, I'm not going to go because it is in Vermont.

• 1:07:10Speaker 03

What? New Hampshire is right there.

• 1:07:14Doug DeMuro?

It's a bunch more of a New Hampshire car.

• 1:07:16Speaker 03

It's a New Hampshire car for sure.

• 1:07:17Doug DeMuro?

Anyway, it's in Vermont. I'm not going, but you should go.

• 1:07:19Speaker 03

  Noted.

• 1:07:20Doug DeMuro?

Uh, or you. You ever want to go to a press launch in Vermont?

• 1:07:22Speaker 03

I think I'm busy that day.

• 1:07:24Doug DeMuro?

It's, they're going to do it in the snow.

• 1:07:26Speaker 03

  Oh, that would be fun.

• 1:07:27Doug DeMuro?

In snow. They're going to run it out some sort of snow thing for the 550, for the four door ones, the 550 horsepower and the 420 horsepower.

• 1:07:33Speaker 03

Dodge, invite me, I'll be there.

• 1:07:34Doug DeMuro?

That looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it's nine planes to get to Burlington, so I won't be going. Uh, okay, questions. First question comes from final. Oh, by the way, the questions this week were not good. They were not good.

• 1:07:47Speaker 03

  Shame.

• 1:07:50Speaker 03

  Shame you listeners.

• 1:07:53Doug DeMuro?

If you want to ask us questions, go to the community tab. We will post a post asking us to ask, asking for questions. Folks, think of your best stuff. Nick's going to be back on the pod next week. Crazy Nick, ask your crazy questions. I want to, I want to answer the best and brightest and most special questions.

• 1:08:09Speaker 03

  There were 371 questions.

• 1:08:11Doug DeMuro?

I went through literally all of them and they were not as good. His previous weeks. Nonetheless, there are, I found nine or so good ones.

• 1:08:17Speaker 02

  All right.

• 1:08:18Doug DeMuro?

From Final Funky Pants, who handled a nostalgic nameplate worse? GM with the Blazer or Honda with the Prelude? I'm gonna answer this and I'll take, then you guys can. The Honda Prelude is one of the most, the worst abominations in the history of the automobile. It's, it was absolutely horribly redone. It's ridiculous car. Underpowered, overpriced, not gonna sell. The answer is the Blazer.

• 1:08:42Speaker 02

  No doubt about it.

• 1:08:44Speaker 03

If we can only pick between those two.

• 1:08:46Doug DeMuro?

Well, what else would be, you give me.

• 1:08:48Speaker 03

  The Ford Thunderbird.

• 1:08:49Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:08:51Doug DeMuro?

The, the, the, the boomer, the boomer Thunderbird. The boomer Thunderbird, I mean, that's what the boomers wanted, dude. I posted my video review kind of knocking it and the comments were like, you don't understand this car. They gave people what they wanted.

• 1:09:04Speaker 03

Did they? Is that what we wanted? Like 200 horsepower V8?

• 1:09:08Doug DeMuro?

It was 300 and that's what the boomers who bought the car wanted. Were you gonna spend 56 on a two-door Lincoln base?

• 1:09:14Speaker 03

Okay, there's a lot of examples. I mean, it's not just that, like.

• 1:09:17Doug DeMuro?

Hit us with some more. I think those are probably the two worst.

• 1:09:19Speaker 02

Oh, look at these windows, the porthole windows. That is a clean car.

• 1:09:23Speaker 03

This was a complete commercial failure. They could not give them away.

• 1:09:27Speaker 02

10 grand on the secondary market. They're not really valuable.

• 1:09:30Doug DeMuro?

You know, I actually, I actually enjoyed driving it. It's, it's a pretty comfortable, like, you know, kind of cruiser type car, which I think is what it's for.

• 1:09:37Speaker 03

It's honestly aged well, where now it looks like, like a concept car that escaped the museum.

• 1:09:42Speaker 02

  Till you look.

• 1:09:43Speaker 03

  But the inside is bad.

• 1:09:43Doug DeMuro?

The interior has some bright spots.

• 1:09:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:09:50Doug DeMuro?

In the dark. But what is worse? I think Blazer is the worst of all time.

• 1:09:56Speaker 02

For sure. The Prelude at, by the end of the run in 2002 was a dated product too. Like the nameplate had kind of lost.

• 1:10:02Doug DeMuro?

People don't talk about the fact that that fifth gen Prelude had, was not really particularly beloved even then. Now, over the years, we look back with rose colored glasses and has become beloved. But like, I was there and I remember people complaining even then that it was front wheel drive and underpowered.

• 1:10:16Speaker 02

  Yeah, because it was.

• 1:10:18Doug DeMuro?

Now, these days, I think it's a pretty cool car. Click on that one.

• 1:10:20Speaker 02

It is incredible. There's the JDM one.

• 1:10:22Doug DeMuro?

  Good picture.

• 1:10:23Speaker 02

Incredibly cool, but I think the nameplate didn't have that much value at a certain point. The Blazer nameplate, though.

• 1:10:29Doug DeMuro?

Especially when Bronco and Wrangler and 4Runner are here selling hundreds of thousands of units a year. And GM looked at that and they're like, let's do a unibody crossover that only sells to rental fleets. It is one of the most laughable mismanagements in the entire history of laughable mismanagement.

• 1:10:47Speaker 02

  This was the direct predecessor.

• 1:10:48Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but that happens. Like, the 4th gen Camaro wasn't amazing and then the 5th gen came out and it was incredible. Like, that happens. Nameplates kind of die off. The Mustang in 04, the new Edge, had kind of, we were kind of wondering if the Mustang was gonna die completely. And then 05 shows up, one of the great redesigns in car history. Like, they could have done that with the Blazer, too.

• 1:11:06Speaker 02

Also, this one looks kind of cool.

• 1:11:07Doug DeMuro?

Oh, yeah. The ZR2. It's a lot cooler than any of the trash they're making now.

• 1:11:13Speaker 03

I give the Blazer some benefit of the doubt, that I just think that they were gonna build that car anyways, and then they just slapped the wrong name on it. Like, that's what they screwed up. The Blazer should have been an off-road car. They could have still made what is the Blazer and just named it like some forgettable midsize SUV, whatever. Like, it's just the nameplate.

• 1:11:31Doug DeMuro?

GM is so afraid of making off-road cars. They're like Honda, except, except the problem is their core products also are bad.

• 1:11:39Doug DeMuro?

But like the Trail Boss, like, they won't, they won't just go and make a Raptor or make a Raptor R or whatever, like, or this. The Blazer. Like, the market is so clearly demanding these vehicles and they won't go do it.

• 1:11:52Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:11:53Doug DeMuro?

I also find it weird that ZR1 is a Corvette and ZR2.

• 1:12:26Doug DeMuro?

That's a really good point. ZR5, here's a very interesting trivia. Do you remember what ZR5 was?

• 1:12:33Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:12:33Doug DeMuro?

ZR5 was a slightly off-road trim level of the last generation Chevy S10 with four doors. Type in, I bet we've sold one. I bet we've sold one. Type in ZR5 and see if it pops up.

• 1:12:47Speaker 03

  Nope.

• 1:12:48Doug DeMuro?

Ah, what a shame. I saw one on the road the other day.

• 1:12:50Speaker 03

  Nope.

• 1:12:51Doug DeMuro?

Type in S10 ZR5. You remember the S-dime, dude?

• 1:12:54Speaker 03

  Yeah, oh yeah.

• 1:12:55Doug DeMuro?

  That was it.

• 1:12:55Speaker 03

  Ah.

• 1:12:56Doug DeMuro?

  It looked nice.

• 1:12:57Speaker 03

They just sold two of them, yeah.

• 1:12:58Doug DeMuro?

  The ZR5.

• 1:13:00Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 1:13:00Doug DeMuro?

  You're thinking, where's the ZR3 and the ZR4?

• 1:13:02Speaker 03

No. I don't think I had any such thing.

• 1:13:05Doug DeMuro?

  What was the?

• 1:13:05Speaker 03

The ZX5 was the Focus 5-door.

• 1:13:07Doug DeMuro?

  And the ZR3.

• 1:13:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:09Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay. You got, you don't have a nostalgic nameplate worse handled than Blazer? You're over here talking, but I don't hear you with one.

• 1:13:15Speaker 03

I'd have to do a little more deep research, but the 500 was handled beautifully. If you have 500, I'm not saying that as the owner of one. I'm like, truly, that was like a successful rebrand.

• 1:13:25Doug DeMuro?

  The Bronco.

• 1:13:26Speaker 03

  Really successful.

• 1:13:27Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, a lot of, a lot of times they've done it well. Not that one, not the Blazer.

• 1:13:31Speaker 03

  The Challenger, pretty good.

• 1:13:32Doug DeMuro?

I don't even think, relative to the Blazer, I don't even think it was that bad. Uh, okay, next question from T. Bearert. If you had all the money in the world, which automaker would you pay to do a special one-off car and what car would it be?

• 1:13:43Speaker 03

  Lamo.

• 1:13:44Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:13:45Speaker 03

Lamborghini Lamo 2. Finally make me one. I want it limited production. I want it with a V12. Like, like, kinda like that with that Veyron, which I think is the obvious answer here. Give me a Lamo.

• 1:13:56Doug DeMuro?

  LM002 revival.

• 1:13:57Speaker 03

That wouldn't break down every 20 miles.

• 1:13:59Doug DeMuro?

LM002 revival. Would you accept an Urus with the, like a Santa Cruz Urus?

• 1:14:03Speaker 03

Uh, if done extremely well, they could reuse some Urus parts, sure.

• 1:14:08Doug DeMuro?

  I wouldn't.

• 1:14:09Speaker 03

  I, I wouldn't prefer not.

• 1:14:10Doug DeMuro?

Let's go off-roading. We got all the money in the world. All of it. We want a Lamo.

• 1:14:15Speaker 03

Yeah, and I want it to look like the original Lamo.

• 1:14:17Doug DeMuro?

  Just modernize.

• 1:14:18Speaker 03

Like, just, yeah, modernize, tweak it a little here, give me like a decent interior.

• 1:14:21Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:22Speaker 03

  And powertrain.

• 1:14:22Doug DeMuro?

  Stick, three pet?

• 1:14:24Speaker 03

  Ooh.

• 1:14:25Doug DeMuro?

You're not a three-pet guy, no, but no.

• 1:14:26Speaker 03

  Hey, hey, hey.

• 1:14:29Doug DeMuro?

  You got it?

• 1:14:29Speaker 03

On off-road vehicles, generally speaking, automatics are preferable.

• 1:14:33Doug DeMuro?

And on your sports cars. So anyway, the only manual you have is a diesel hatchback. And you're getting rid of it because you want out.

• 1:14:42Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 1:14:42Speaker 02

He doesn't know how to drive it.

• 1:14:43Doug DeMuro?

For me, I'd probably, LMO would be behind my list. I would definitely want a modernized F40. That'd be really cool.

• 1:14:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:48Doug DeMuro?

  With a manual.

• 1:14:49Speaker 03

Did Lewis Hamilton ever end up making one?

• 1:14:50Doug DeMuro?

There was talk about that, but then he raced poorly, I guess. I didn't really.

• 1:14:53Speaker 03

And now he's dating Kim Kardashian allegedly.

• 1:14:55Doug DeMuro?

  There's not, it's not happening.

• 1:14:56Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:57Doug DeMuro?

  So what you got?

• 1:14:58Speaker 03

  Got nothing.

• 1:14:59Doug DeMuro?

  You got nothing?

• 1:15:00Speaker 03

Nothing. Not how my brain works.

• 1:15:02Speaker 02

So some kind of a car that should be a manual that isn't a manual, make that a manual wagon.

• 1:15:07Doug DeMuro?

  Make that a manual wagon.

• 1:15:08Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah. Shooting brake recommissions.

• 1:15:11Speaker 02

  A C8 E-Ray manual wagon.

• 1:15:13Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I mean, a, a, a, a, a long roof version of the C8 would be really cool. Or a Cayman. I, I, I remember when they offered that, when they were gonna offer that, like.

• 1:15:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:15:21Doug DeMuro?

Cut, make your own program. I had like talked about that and nobody did anything. Um, those are all possibilities. The Mule is a good one. The Mule is a good.

• 1:15:29Speaker 03

The Veyron from last week's pot is kind of the, I don't know. I think that's probably the correct answer to the question.

• 1:15:36Speaker 02

Can I propose a better looking Toyota Sienna?

• 1:15:38Doug DeMuro?

Uh, no, you can't. Uh, okay. Next question, uh.

• 1:15:43Speaker 03

You wasted your genie wish then.

• 1:15:45Doug DeMuro?

Next question from Quasi Brad. This question's for you guys.

• 1:15:49Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 1:15:50Doug DeMuro?

It's about me, but it's for you guys. Dear Doug, what do you think you'd be doing professionally if YouTube didn't pan out? Uh, would you have gone back in the industry? Would you have done something else? What do you think I would be doing if YouTube hadn't have panned out?

• 1:16:04Speaker 03

I think you would have been that guy that goes on Jeopardy and wins a couple of times in a row.

• 1:16:07Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:08Speaker 03

  Just a couple.

• 1:16:08Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. That's not really a career, though. I think the question is more like.

• 1:16:11Speaker 03

Well, you would have had like, kind of like a mid-manager role or something, but never been able to go past mid-manager because of your people skills. Like, you would have told off your boss and like, kind of just got stuck at some level. But you would have then gone on Jeopardy and everyone's like, wow, that guy's really smart. And then.

• 1:16:27Doug DeMuro?

  That's a fair point.

• 1:16:28Speaker 03

And then we'd never would hear from you again.

• 1:16:29Doug DeMuro?

Okay. I mean, Jeopardy, you win a few times, you win maybe 40 grand pre-tax.

• 1:16:34Speaker 02

Per, per episode. If you're doing well, you're in your 40s.

• 1:16:36Speaker 03

You would have gone big in like the early 2000s on Jeopardy when that was like something.

• 1:16:39Doug DeMuro?

  The early 2000s, Nick, I, I.

• 1:16:42Speaker 03

You could have bought a house.

• 1:16:43Doug DeMuro?

I turned 12 in 2000. You could have bought a house. Okay, Sleepy, but what's the answer?

• 1:16:50Speaker 02

I think for a while you have gone back into that, like into like vehicle allocation management.

• 1:16:55Doug DeMuro?

I would have gone back into it for a bit.

• 1:16:57Speaker 02

I think you would have been really bored there and also you're too intelligent and driven to stay in the thing like that.

• 1:17:03Doug DeMuro?

Oh my god, he's saying people don't stay in the car industry if they're smart.

• 1:17:06Speaker 02

  No, no.

• 1:17:06Doug DeMuro?

You're gonna say that about Tim Koenig's? I promise.

• 1:17:11Speaker 02

I don't know. I don't know the answer to that. I do think Jeopardy Champion was a real pathway that you should have considered.

• 1:17:16Doug DeMuro?

  And honestly, you should still.

• 1:17:18Speaker 03

And probably about the same odds as making it big on YouTube.

• 1:17:20Doug DeMuro?

No, it's definitely, definitely higher odds of being Jeopardy Champion, of which there have been thousands. But meanwhile, on YouTube, only me and Hoovy have ever made it big. Am I right?

• 1:17:30Speaker 03

  You guys are crushing it.

• 1:17:31Doug DeMuro?

I saw Hoovy four times at Barrett-Jackson, each time he had bought another car from the previous time.

• 1:17:38Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, man.

• 1:17:39Speaker 03

  Dude was killing it.

• 1:17:40Doug DeMuro?

I'll tell you this, though. It's February. You know what that means?

• 1:17:42Speaker 02

He's gotta sell them all by April 15th.

• 1:17:44Doug DeMuro?

Tax time here in the United States, April 15th, you gotta assume.

• 1:17:48Speaker 02

Surely he has to pay quarterly.

• 1:17:50Doug DeMuro?

Well, but he doesn't. That's one of his things. You gotta assume that I'm gonna get a text from Hoovy here in the next few weeks saying he's gotta sell some, panic, sell some stuff on Cars and Bikes.

• 1:17:57Speaker 02

  Hoovy just texts us now.

• 1:17:58Speaker 03

  I've done my part.

• 1:17:59Speaker 02

  I've done my part.

• 1:18:00Doug DeMuro?

That might mean that he gets to come back on this podcast, because usually we pay him some honorarium and he comes to do a pod with us.

• 1:18:07Speaker 03

I tried to buy him out of the, I guess I shouldn't out what car he got, but he got a car at Barrett-Jackson that I was trying to buy him out of, but didn't, was unsuccessful.

• 1:18:16Doug DeMuro?

Why didn't you just buy it at Barrett-Jackson, you nincompoop? Oh, I'm sorry. It's the people skills. It's the people skills.

• 1:18:22Speaker 03

Yes, yes. That's why you're gonna be a middle manager forever.

• 1:18:25Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, right. Okay, next question. This is another one about me that you guys can answer.

• 1:18:30Speaker 03

  Oh, sure.

• 1:18:30Doug DeMuro?

From Ramtin underscore. Hey Doug, you've mentioned you prefer reviewing cars locally due to family and logistics. Yeah, I do prefer it.

• 1:18:39Speaker 02

Most people prefer convenience over inconvenience, yes.

• 1:18:43Doug DeMuro?

Filippo's laughing because it's not, it's not even about preference, it's an only.

• 1:18:48Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:18:48Doug DeMuro?

If you received an offer to review absolutely any car in the world and could actually drive it, what is one holy grail car that make you drop everything and fly anywhere? Filippo, go ahead and answer the question. I think you know the answer.

• 1:18:56Speaker 02

Doug's answer is gonna be nothing.

• 1:18:58Doug DeMuro?

  That's wrong.

• 1:18:58Speaker 02

That's not the, that's not the real answer.

• 1:19:00Speaker 03

He was offered the telltale sign, Columbus, when he was in Italy and he turned it down.

• 1:19:04Doug DeMuro?

Offered to me, I was two hours away with my family and I said no.

• 1:19:06Speaker 02

I think if somebody says, here's all of these cars and this history.

• 1:19:10Doug DeMuro?

  You're thinking about the Sultan.

• 1:19:11Speaker 02

  I think of the Sultan.

• 1:19:12Speaker 03

  Yeah, that's true.

• 1:19:13Doug DeMuro?

  I will say.

• 1:19:14Speaker 02

  You'd go.

• 1:19:14Doug DeMuro?

Sultan would work. If the logistics all worked out and the Sultan thing worked out and I could get a full week in Brunei and pick and choose, I could come home, you know, after six days with 12, 13 videos shot.

• 1:19:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, you'd do it.

• 1:19:26Doug DeMuro?

And we would finally have an insight into what some of those cars are like.

• 1:19:30Speaker 02

Which of Brunei's seasons would you go in?

• 1:19:34Doug DeMuro?

I don't do well in the heat. Yeah. Which is the problem because there's only ever heat. I assume I would shoot the whole thing indoors, but I also assume they don't have air conditioning.

• 1:19:41Speaker 03

What about Japan for the Aspar Al?

• 1:19:43Doug DeMuro?

  It's made in Italy, okay?

• 1:19:45Speaker 03

  Are you sure?

• 1:19:46Speaker 02

  Nobody knows.

• 1:19:47Speaker 03

Nobody asks, they claim it is.

• 1:19:48Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay. Two more questions and then I have to leave. Um.

• 1:19:52Speaker 02

  What?

• 1:19:53Doug DeMuro?

  Yep. Next question.

• 1:19:54Speaker 02

For a hatchback, a good looking car.

• 1:19:56Doug DeMuro?

63 Splitty. At what number, this is for you, I think. At what number does the 570S become a good buy? 105, we sold one the other day, right? For 105.

• 1:20:05Speaker 02

  Sold one today.

• 1:20:06Speaker 03

Did it go, did it end today?

• 1:20:07Speaker 02

  What did it sell for?

• 1:20:08Speaker 03

I'm into that one. They're there, I think.

• 1:20:11Doug DeMuro?

  Oh!

• 1:20:11Speaker 03

  Under 100 for a 570S is there.

• 1:20:14Doug DeMuro?

89 it sold for, but 61,000 miles.

• 1:20:17Speaker 03

  That was a cool spec.

• 1:20:18Doug DeMuro?

  This one?

• 1:20:19Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:20:19Doug DeMuro?

  61,000 miles.

• 1:20:20Speaker 02

Yeah. And also was titled in Kansas.

• 1:20:23Doug DeMuro?

  It's got a, that's a, that's a Tennessee.

• 1:20:25Speaker 02

  Tennessee, sorry. I misremembered.

• 1:20:26Doug DeMuro?

  It's in Tesla Vista.

• 1:20:27Speaker 02

It's in San Diego, but no.

• 1:20:29Doug DeMuro?

Titled in Kansas or Tennessee. I don't think that really matters that much.

• 1:20:34Speaker 02

Who told me the stories? We sold, we are, one failed to sell with 57,000.

• 1:20:39Doug DeMuro?

What's the number? Would you buy one of these?

• 1:20:41Speaker 03

  I mean, I.

• 1:20:41Doug DeMuro?

You're an automatic transmission guy. Where would you, where would you hop in?

• 1:20:44Speaker 03

I think 89 is a quite compelling number.

• 1:20:47Doug DeMuro?

  It is quite compelling.

• 1:20:48Speaker 03

I, I would hop in there. If I were in the market for another automatic sports car.

• 1:20:52Doug DeMuro?

This is like a 560, that's why you're not calling on the Diablo. It's three pedals and you're done.

• 1:20:57Speaker 03

  Yeah, that must be it.

• 1:20:58Doug DeMuro?

He doesn't know how to drive manual.

• 1:21:00Speaker 03

I'll swap it to an auto.

• 1:21:02Doug DeMuro?

  Um, okay.

• 1:21:04Speaker 02

  It's a real car.

• 1:21:05Doug DeMuro?

Last question from that million mile Volvo. Which dead car manufacturer do you miss the most? And why is it Saab? I, it's not Saab for me. I'll tell you what mine is, but you go ahead first.

• 1:21:17Speaker 02

  Please go first.

• 1:21:17Doug DeMuro?

  Yours is Saab.

• 1:21:18Speaker 02

Of course, but please go first. But you know, Saab didn't die when it stopped production. Saab died in about 1998. When GM took majority ownership.

• 1:21:26Doug DeMuro?

There is a, damn, this is like a hipster. Like Saab, Saab died first when GM showed up and it died second when it actually died.

• 1:21:36Speaker 02

Uh, by the way, the actual answer was became a sole wholly owned subsidiary in 2000.

• 1:21:41Doug DeMuro?

2000, I remember the day it was a big deal. Nick, what's your, what's your favorite dead car brand?

• 1:21:47Speaker 02

It's on my actual, is that my answer?

• 1:21:49Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, of course. What do you mean?

• 1:21:50Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:21:50Doug DeMuro?

The key went in the center.

• 1:21:52Speaker 02

  I know, it's so.

• 1:21:52Doug DeMuro?

  They had a V4.

• 1:21:54Speaker 02

So I did, there's a channel where somebody did a bunch of work for Saab. I did a whole 15 minute bit about why Saab was special for this kid's YouTube channel. It's great.

• 1:22:02Doug DeMuro?

  What do you got?

• 1:22:03Speaker 03

I'm going to guess that you're going to say Saturn.

• 1:22:05Speaker 02

No, I am absolutely not. Although it is a shape, same with Scion.

• 1:22:10Doug DeMuro?

Neither are a shape. Nick, what's yours? Come on.

• 1:22:13Speaker 03

Um, I think DeLorean got a bad shake.

• 1:22:18Speaker 02

  Or you say Autobianchi?

• 1:22:20Speaker 03

I was tempted to say Packard initially.

• 1:22:22Doug DeMuro?

Oh my God, that's actually not a bad one.

• 1:22:24Speaker 03

  But, um.

• 1:22:25Doug DeMuro?

  DeLorean is embarrassing.

• 1:22:27Speaker 03

I, I think also Mercury I miss. The Mountaineer.

• 1:22:30Doug DeMuro?

  What Mercury?

• 1:22:30Speaker 03

  Legend.

• 1:22:31Doug DeMuro?

  The Mountaineer.

• 1:22:32Speaker 02

  The legend was inaccurate.

• 1:22:33Speaker 03

Like there's still a strong part of me that wants to buy Fords and rebadged them as Mercury's.

• 1:22:37Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, go back.

• 1:22:38Speaker 02

  Why not?

• 1:22:38Doug DeMuro?

  All right.

• 1:22:39Speaker 03

  Change the grills to be.

• 1:22:40Doug DeMuro?

  The correct answer is Pontiac.

• 1:22:43Speaker 03

  You missed the G6?

• 1:22:44Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, dude, there was a G6 GXP that had a massive powertrain and massive front end that looked like, if you pull up the G6 GXP, it looked like the new M3. Pull it up. It looked like the new M3.

• 1:22:57Doug DeMuro?

People are like, oh, the M3. Pontiac had it first. Pontiac had everything first. And I'll tell you this.

• 1:23:02Speaker 03

Oh, you haven't sold a lot, have you?

• 1:23:05Doug DeMuro?

No, Missy Elliott. They did a hardtop convertible. That's not it, by the way. That's not the GXP. I want to make it clear that, but they did do a hardtop convertible like the SL, by the way. Um. But also, they were GM's performance brand.

• 1:23:18Speaker 03

You're the first person since their own marketing team to compare it to that.

• 1:23:22Doug DeMuro?

There was a blown... You know what the crazy thing about this car was? There was also a soft top convertible. There was a blown V6 that they did a lot of cars with. There was a V8 that went into the Grand Prix. Do you remember the Grand Prix?

• 1:23:35Speaker 03

  Yeah, GXP, GTP.

• 1:23:38Doug DeMuro?

Well, yeah, there was that, but that was the supercharged one.

• 1:23:40Speaker 03

Look at that. Look at that.

• 1:23:41Doug DeMuro?

Then they did the Grand Prix GXP, which had a V8. That was serious. That was a North Star. Yes! This! Look at that grill! You think the M3 nostrils are something? This is a beaver!

• 1:23:51Speaker 03

God, that was tough. That is, that's a lot.

• 1:23:53Doug DeMuro?

It was ugly. Although I will say, when I was in Detroit just filming the Celestic, guess what was parked in the GM campus?

• 1:23:58Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:23:59Doug DeMuro?

Someone had one of these. Living the dream. I miss Pontiac. It was the excitement brand. The Solstice GXP, the Grand Prix GTP Super 6, and the GXP V8. The G8, the G6, the G8! Which was a crazy cool car, brought from Australia, rear-wheel drive, manual. Everybody's like, "Oh, Chevy SS, Pontiac G8!" All of the cars were cool, except the Torrent at the very end.

• 1:24:22Speaker 03

And the G3 in Canada. And the Vibe.

• 1:24:24Doug DeMuro?

  The G3 Wave.

• 1:24:26Speaker 03

  G3 Wave?

• 1:24:27Doug DeMuro?

I think it was called technically the G3 Wave.

• 1:24:30Speaker 03

I can't go down this road.

• 1:24:33Doug DeMuro?

  Um, anyway.

• 1:24:35Speaker 03

I also want to revise the revived nameplate one. Ford Lightning. Gen 2 Lightning, overnight parts from Japan to an EV pickup.

• 1:24:43Doug DeMuro?

EV pickup was faster and better in every way!

• 1:24:46Speaker 03

I think that was a mistake.

• 1:24:48Doug DeMuro?

Look, the point is, Pontiac, we miss you dearly.

• 1:24:51Speaker 03

  I do.

• 1:24:51Doug DeMuro?

For some reason, GM kept Buick, which I think has no redeeming qualities. But Pontiac had real performance. There was love there. And instead, they took it away from us, right when a new Firebird was about to come out.

• 1:25:04Speaker 03

Well, that would have been nice.

• 1:25:05Doug DeMuro?

Thank you. That's your answer, and that's your podcast for this week. The finest we've ever done. Nick, do you have any parting thoughts or anything you want to shout out?

• 1:25:12Speaker 03

Yes. Follow me on Cars in Bed Seller profile. Maybe keep following Filippo or not, that's up to you.

• 1:25:22Speaker 02

Well, I like that you're not trying to get people to watch YouTube content. Or anything else that-

• 1:25:26Doug DeMuro?

The only thing that matters to him-

• 1:25:27Speaker 02

  Is a leaderboard.

• 1:25:28Doug DeMuro?

  Cars and bids leaderboard.

• 1:25:29Speaker 03

Which, it's important that I have this vanity metric. It provides me no utility in the real world, but I would like it.

• 1:25:36Speaker 02

Reputation scores in porn, number of cars sold?

• 1:25:39Speaker 03

Car value sold, I will never win.

• 1:25:41Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:25:42Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:25:42Speaker 02

Wow. Cars won, you clearly will never win.

• 1:25:45Speaker 03

  That's 77, that's impressive.

• 1:25:46Speaker 02

  That's real.

• 1:25:47Doug DeMuro?

Legit. Okay, that's Nick. Flippo, you got anything to plug yours? Yeah, go to Cars and Bids. Our app is great, I'm told.

• 1:25:52Speaker 02

Our app is great. Truly, if you have an iPhone, download the app, you'll love it.

• 1:25:56Doug DeMuro?

The app's great, the podcast is great, everything we do is great. Goodbye, everyone. Thank you for watching the Cars and Bids podcast, or maybe it's the Doug Demure, I don't know. This car pod. Goodbye!

• 1:26:06Speaker 02

  There you go.
