In case you missed it, you're allowed to be hot, smart, and rich. So let's get into it.

• 1:47Maggie Sellers Reum?

Gina and Cherie, are you guys ready to get hot, smart, rich? So ready! Let's do it! I'm so excited you guys are here. Thank you so much for coming. Same! Okay, so we always start with consumption habits. We like to talk about money on the pod. So what is the last thing that you bought and the last most expensive thing that you bought? Ooh. And you decide who goes first.

• 2:07Speaker 02

Um, I just had some orders come in this week.

• 2:10Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 2:11Speaker 02

Two things that I bought. One, there's this, um, I'm kind of like outing myself right now, but like there's this natural deodorant that I love.

• 2:17Speaker 03

  Love.

• 2:18Speaker 02

Recently discovered. It's called Evolve Together. Have you heard of it?

• 2:22Speaker 03

  No.

• 2:22Speaker 02

It's like the most delicious smelling Havana.

• 2:25Speaker 03

It's the one I gave you?

• 2:26Speaker 02

Mm-hmm. But then I bought another one and it's lovely, natural deodorant.

• 2:31Speaker 03

  Love it.

• 2:31Speaker 02

And then the other thing that came in this week is that, um, I'm seeing someone and

• 2:37Speaker 03

Like that was dropped so early, okay?

• 2:40Speaker 02

Well, it's top of mind because I literally opened it today.

• 2:42Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 2:43Speaker 02

And I got him, um, a birthday gift. And it's just like a little something, but it's like a customized T-shirt with like an inside joke on it. And it's like, not an expensive thing, but it's like a little thoughtful, like, oh, inside joke. And then he can like,

• 2:56Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 2:57Speaker 02

You know, hee hee tee hee whenever he likes.

• 2:59Speaker 03

Tee hee. Oh, my God. I'm so excited to go into dating later. Okay. Jean, you're up. Okay, mine was actually just yesterday. So recently I've started getting into lingerie. Love it. You guys came to a hot car ranch. I am so here for it. Oh, my God. It's like, I don't even really know why, but like now I, I get it. Like I get the difference that you feel like when you just like are wearing something kind of just like for yourself. Yeah. Um, and so I actually went to the store in person. It's called Fleur du Mal. Oh, my God. I love Fleur du Mal. It's so good. It's sexy. And they actually, so they literally got me with an Instagram ad. I converted the next day in person. I went to the store. I even called the store in the morning. Oh, my God.

• 3:41Speaker 03

She doesn't know about this. I called the store in the morning. I was like, do you have the Pomodoro in? I was like, do you have it in size? Beep.

• 3:50Speaker 03

And I was like, yes, we have it. I was like, okay, I'm gonna come try it on. So then I ended up, I was like, kind of working all day Saturday and Sunday, but like as a treat, I was like, I'm gonna go and like try it on and buy it in store. We, I love that. And that's definitely the most expensive thing that you bought because that stuff is not cheap. It's, it's very expensive. It's kind of like ridiculous. You're like seventy dollars for like a literal, no, an underwear. Yeah. Like literally a bottom. Yeah. But you're like, well, if you buy the top, you have to buy the bottom. Yeah. It's not. You have to. You have to. But the feeling is priceless. Yeah. But wait, so you're dressing for you or you're dressing for somebody? No, it's for me because I'm not seeing anyone right now. I was seeing some people. Um, but I am clearing the roster.

• 4:35Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, and I love that you went and spent very, a lot of money on lingerie as you're clearing your roster. And that is like for yourself.

• 4:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:43Maggie Sellers Reum?

I love that. So you're big into branded t-shirts. I see you're wearing one right now. What does it say?

• 4:47Speaker 02

It's a Sisters matcha. This is our matcha brand.

• 4:49Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, branding is so important in media and consumer brands. Can you please walk us through the branding of Tiger Sisters, which is so iconic?

• 4:58Speaker 02

Yeah, so Tiger Sisters came out, like it started between us like a year ago.

• 5:04Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Okay.

• 5:05Speaker 02

Um, I've been creating content for the last five years, but I graduated from Stanford's Business School last June. I moved in with my sister and then we started this podcast together. And it's kind of like a play on like, do you know the Tiger Mom? Like Amy Chua, like the professor at Yale. She wrote that book. Um, and it's like a parenting technique specific to like Asian parents, which like we grew up with a Tiger Mom, which was amazing, but like also slightly traumatizing. So we're trying to rebrand it and like, we're not Tiger Moms, but we're like, we're Tiger Sisters.

• 5:39Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 5:39Speaker 02

And we are like the cubs of our Tiger Mom.

• 5:41Speaker 03

Yeah, and it kind of is like playing into the fact that like, we are the inner, what we call ourselves, the internet's Wall Street and Silicon Valley Big Sisters.

• 5:49Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Love it.

• 5:50Speaker 03

So the idea is that like, we're helping everyone else out there on the internet and we're like, not your Tiger Mom, but we're, we're your Tiger Sister. So we're like helpful, but not overbearing.

• 5:59Maggie Sellers Reum?

You get the benefit of both.

• 6:00Speaker 02

  Exactly.

• 6:01Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, so you guys have resume virtues that would make most men shake in their boots. Cherie, you are an engineer at Columbia. You are a recent MBA graduate at Stanford. And Jean, you hold an MBA from Harvard. You're ex Goldman Sachs. You actually sound like my boyfriend up until this point because you hold 50 AI patents.

• 6:21Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 6:22Maggie Sellers Reum?

Holy shit. What has made you guys chase such aspirational resume virtues?

• 6:29Speaker 03

  Oof, that's a good question.

• 6:31Speaker 02

Yeah, that's a really, that's like a very deep question.

• 6:33Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah, let's go there, please.

• 6:35Speaker 03

First of all, it's an illness.

• 6:39Speaker 03

It's a disease. Um, yeah, well, soon.

• 6:42Speaker 02

  Yeah. I think I'm, I, I wanna say I'm done, but like, I don't know if I am.

• 6:47Maggie Sellers Reum?

You, you wanna keep stocking the deck on stuff?

• 6:50Speaker 02

I mean, like with Tiger Sisters, but like with our matcha brand and everything that we're like, starting like, we have huge ambitions to like, build an empire and a business between the two of us. And so like, I, I don't, I think we're just getting started there.

• 7:04Maggie Sellers Reum?

But I would say that like, the names that I read is like Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, like Goldman Sachs. These are names that everybody can recognize. Whereas I think now you're chasing a different virtue, which is like a legacy. You're chasing an empire, chasing something that you're creating. You have a why. I think what I'm trying to get at for a lot of people listening to this, cause we have a lot of people that are like, I think I need to work at Goldman Sachs, or I think I need to go to Stanford is like, why were those names on your resume so important when you were thinking about the trajectory of your career? Take us back maybe like 10 years from today.

• 7:36Speaker 03

Yeah. I think, I think for us, the way that we thought about it is that those are kind of like name brands in the corporate world. And for us, when we don't already have like, name brands to start with, it's kind of an information shortcut. Yeah. Right? Like even just you rattling off like those like three, four names. People are like, oh, I kinda know what they're about. I know what they're coming with. Like if they're gonna speak about XYZ topics, it's not gonna be just total fluff. Yeah. Like they have done the work and they have like fought to like get to their, where they are today. And their accolades actually stand for something.

• 8:11Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 8:11Speaker 03

So like for us, I think that was important, especially because we have worked in fields where, you know, women are not typically ascendant in.

• 8:22Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yep. They're very male dominated.

• 8:24Speaker 03

  Totally.

• 8:24Maggie Sellers Reum?

Like in tech and business and finance.

• 8:27Speaker 03

And so like a lot of times, I think, hopefully things are changing now. But if people just look at you and they look at you kind of like for face value, if you don't have those sort of brands behind you, they, they kind of want to dismiss you. You know what I mean?

• 8:42Maggie Sellers Reum?

What do you think made you guys chase such aspirational resume virtues?

• 8:47Speaker 02

Yeah, I think for me, a lot of it was that I had always worked in very male dominated fields. So I think a lot of times when you're a woman in these fields, especially if you're a young woman, especially if you're a young woman that looks really young.

• 9:02Speaker 03

Which like I have a round face.

• 9:04Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Age Jean, I'm just kidding.

• 9:05Speaker 03

  I'm thirty six.

• 9:07Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Amazing.

• 9:08Speaker 03

I have a round face. So like I always looked so young, like up until very recently. Um, but I think like when you walk into a room, people want to dismiss you, right? Like people don't want to take what you have to say seriously. And so for me, my sort of like anecdote to that was I was like, I'm gonna keep stacking up all these, like you said, virtues, all these brand names. So that when I walk into a room and people actually know my background, like what I say is going to be undeniable.

• 9:34Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Points on the board.

• 9:35Speaker 02

Yes. And I would say also, just to add on to that, and it's not even like a conscious dismissing, like I don't. Many times it's not even something that people like know that they're doing. But I think like for us, like since I'm seven years younger than Jean, I started working in tech. But I had an engineering background because Jean's like, you need to study computer science if you want to work in tech. Because Jean worked in tech with a non-technical degree and she felt that she was dismissed.

• 10:02Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 10:02Speaker 02

Not on purpose, but like if you're talking to engineers, like it kind of gives you like street cred to be like,

• 10:06Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Exactly.

• 10:07Speaker 02

I studied this, like we're on the same playing field. And if we're going to be working together, like I know what I'm talking about.

• 10:12Speaker 03

Yeah, like I felt like in order to get into my PM job, product management, I had to like claw and fight and like do everything I could to get that job. Because I didn't have a technical degree. So by the time she started at Columbia, I was like, you have to study computer science. Because that's just gonna get you into the room and no one's gonna question your, your accolades. No one's gonna sort of like be like, well, does she really know what she's talking about? You know?

• 10:36Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yeah, which just unfortunately happens for a lot of women. But I think on the flip side, and this is why I love having conversations like this is like, I went the complete opposite way where I was like, sales, marketing, like I am like not the math person. And I think that's what's so interesting about now being in VC is like, I have to look at numbers, but it's definitely not where I like thrive in early stage. But it's interesting because like I did go the opposite route, which was like sales and marketing, got lucky, first startup went public. And I think for me, I always had to outwork people. And I think if you don't have those resume virtues, no matter which way you come from, even just being a woman, you have to outwork people. And I think it's so interesting now, looking back on my career, because I get a lot of questions of like,

• 11:17Maggie Sellers Reum?

how do you think you're in the position that you are? And I'm like, you, you might not be the smartest person in the room, but you can outwork people. And it does take a lot of effort. I think back to like the advice I would have given myself now, what would you tell somebody that's listening to this that maybe doesn't have the virtues that you guys have, that still wants to be sitting where you guys are one day? Like, what would you tell them to do to have their dream career, have that financial freedom that you guys have been able to achieve?

• 11:46Speaker 03

Yeah, I think for me, we talk about outworking all the time. That's something that I think comes like second, second nature to us. We always work really hard. But I think the other part of it is that also, we're always in like a growth mindset.

• 11:59Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 12:00Speaker 03

So like, we're always, we're never afraid to be like, nope, we don't know anything about this. Like, starting a podcast, we've never been in media before, we've never done podcasting before, we have zero connections in like Hollywood or anything. We're like, yeah, we're starting from zero. We don't know anything. So we're not afraid to ask people and just like, say that outright and learn and start from zero.

• 12:22Speaker 02

Yeah. I think the most dangerous thing that I've seen with the accolades and like, the resume virtues that you've named, since like Jean and I have been in those rooms, in those institutions, in those industries, is that like, when it kind of gets to your head, and then you feel afraid to ask the dumb questions, because then you're like, oh my God, I'm at Goldman, or I'm at like Morgan Stanley, or at Harvard, like, everyone is so smart, like, I can't be myself, and I can't ask the dumb questions that other people are probably thinking. So I think that's when it works against you. So like, what I would tell people is like, ask the dumb questions all the time, and continue having that like, beginner's mindset, because the thing that's most dangerous is like having an ego, and then being afraid.

• 13:06Maggie Sellers Reum?

Totally. For somebody that's, okay, for me, I'm Canadian, I know nothing about the Ivy League school system. Like, this was just so different for me when I moved to the States. Can we just walk a little bit through the lore? Like, just break it down. Like, what is the difference? Why does somebody go to Stanford versus Columbia, versus Harvard, versus Yale? Like, Break me like, give me a little one oh one on this lore of these Ivy Leagues.

• 13:29Speaker 02

Yeah, so the Ivy League actually like it started out as like a sports. Like league. Yeah, league, like association. Exactly. So but like today, it means something different because it includes these schools that are like really coveted, really hard to get into. And I think it's a lot different. It keeps evolving. I think every year it's like way harder to get into like. I do not envy people who are like applying to go like in high school now trying to in colleges because it's so different and you need to be like perfect on every level and like start a nonprofit when you're seven. So it's kind of insane. It's so insane. But I would say like, the reason why people want to go to these schools is because it gives them access.

• 14:11Speaker 02

Similar to the information shorthand or shortcut that Jean talked about. It's like when you go to these schools, you look at like some of the past like presidents or the people who are like most powerful in the US, whether it's in the business world, political world, even in the nonprofit world, like they go to these schools and you get access to these people through the alumni network. And I mean, some of the top companies also go straight to these schools. It's a pipeline, a feeder. So like, if you want to work in the industries that are the most coveted and like you look at the people you admire most with the most power. Like they come from these institutions. That's such a good example. Like it's access and you don't even realize it. Yeah.

• 14:49Maggie Sellers Reum?

What career do you think is best suited for someone with an Ivy League degree?

• 14:56Maggie Sellers Reum?

Because true or false Ivy League degrees are helpful or useless in a startup?

• 15:03Speaker 02

This is a good question. I mean, it depends on the industry, but like in general, in the startup world, like you said, so much of it is being scrappy and like not even knowing what you don't know, getting out there, doing those like hundred cold calls. And I think the like the Ivy League is good in the sense that like it gives you a lot of training, like in the sense of like it's a hyper competitive environment, like you are getting more.

• 15:29Speaker 02

Not like motivation, but like you're out there like hustling and like you don't have to go to one of those schools to like have that like obviously, anyone can have that like deeply ingrained in them. But like when you're in that environment, you do get that training and like as long as you use that training to like push through when you're working at a startup, like you don't need that degree.

• 15:46Speaker 03

Yeah, and I think it's also like people who go to the Ivy League, it's not, it's not a monolithic group, right? Everyone goes and gets in for a different reason. So it depends on kind of like how you got in. So if your path to getting in was like super easy, you didn't really have to do all the things that Sri said, like kind of like kill yourself in high school in order to get in, then you're not going to necessarily have those attributes that you've built up over time. Did you guys have to kill yourself in high school to get into these schools?

• 16:16Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yes.

• 16:16Speaker 03

  Yes, 100%.

• 16:17Maggie Sellers Reum?

And was that something that you wanted or your tiger mom wanted for you? And then you inherently just started to like want that for yourself?

• 16:26Speaker 03

I mean, for, for me, it was both.

• 16:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Okay.

• 16:28Speaker 03

But it was also very much like I saw it as a way of,

• 16:35Speaker 03

I guess, like, not like getting out of my situation, but kind of like getting out of my situation.

• 16:39Maggie Sellers Reum?

Well, I've listened to a podcast of yours. I've listened to a lot. I love their podcast. We're not gonna say this till the end. Listen to their podcast, make it a weekly ritual. You talk a lot about having a chip on your shoulder and people come from different backgrounds with different chips on their shoulder and you never know what their chip is. And I love that you guys talk about this so much because I have a very different chip on my shoulder, but I really think that there is a through line that I notice of very successful people that have a drive and you can't teach that. That's what you're trying to find in an interview.

• 17:06Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 17:07Maggie Sellers Reum?

But like, do you think that it stemmed from you wanting to like get rid of that chip on your shoulder almost?

• 17:13Speaker 03

I, yeah, I guess it's not like get rid of, but almost like satisfy in a way. And it's so funny you mention that because I definitely still have that chip today where like there are things that happen to you in life. There are experiences you have. There are people that you encounter.

• 17:27Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 17:28Speaker 03

That even today, like I've said this before to Sri, like I still feel like you probably feel the same, like I'm like, oh, I'll show you.

• 17:35Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yes, for sure.

• 17:37Speaker 03

I'm very much like, I don't think I like come off that way necessarily in like everyday life, but like since you asked me, 100%, like there is that part of me inside where I'm like, you'll see me on a billboard.

• 17:49Maggie Sellers Reum?

Do you think that the culture of these schools and the organizations that you've worked at have bred that like hyper competitive environment? Or like, is that just something that's inherently in somebody or not?

• 18:02Speaker 02

It's probably a bit of both and it really like Jean said, these schools are not like a monolith.

• 18:06Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 18:06Speaker 02

I think every school has its own culture and also depending on the major, what the culture is. Like studying engineering at Columbia, it was super cutthroat and it it like made me a little bit more wary. I think I'm generally like a very like naive and trusting person and I'm like, oh, like, aren't we in this together? Like, can we help each other on like whatever this group project? Like, we're working together, right? And like, that's how like I view life and people.

• 18:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 18:29Speaker 02

But I don't know, it was kind of like my first taste of like, oh, this is the real world and like, I don't know, like, being in New York City and like going on Wall Street, like, things are competitive. And I think I wasn't ready for that, but yeah, I think it's a bit of both. It's like the environment that you're in and also like within you, are you like naturally a competitive person? And how does it come out when you're like collaborating or working with other people?

• 18:51Speaker 03

Yeah, I think it also depends on like what school you go to and what your opportunities are because I went to Dartmouth, which again, middle of nowhere, New Hampshire. She went to Columbia and so like when she was a sophomore or freshman, she was working at Mount Sinai. When she was a sophomore or junior, you were working at Morgan Stanley. Like literally she would put on her pencil skirt and her little flats and take the subway and go to Morgan Stanley every week.

• 19:15Speaker 02

Nineteen in my like pencil skirt and I felt so adult. And when I had to like give them my like signed agreement, like I dressed up to go down there and they're like, you could just mail this in. They're like, you didn't have to come in, but I'm like, I wanted to feel adult. And like have my internship.

• 19:28Speaker 03

I accept your employment, Morgan Stanley.

• 19:31Maggie Sellers Reum?

But I've also heard like iconic stories of people that go and apply for a job and like literally will bang down the door until someone will answer because it's so hard to get a response online. I love that.

• 19:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 19:41Maggie Sellers Reum?

Um, you guys often start videos like everything we learned in 29 minutes at Goldman Sachs or at Harvard. So people can save the 250K that you guys put into your degrees. If somebody's listening to this and feels really stuck in their career, like often they're like, maybe I should do an MBA because it's a way to get access and like new opportunities and a new way of thinking. What advice would you have for somebody that's like, holy shit, $250,000 is like a lot of money. I'm going to be taking on a lot of debt. What would you recommend that they think about before they make that big of a decision?

• 20:13Speaker 03

I think a lot of it is thinking ahead and being like, okay, let me think about if I'm going to get this MBA, what do I want my life to look like five years from now? And how does having an MBA contribute to that? Or how does that sort of like ladder up to that and sort of like do that mental exercise in your head? And be like, okay, if I just want to be in the same role, but like super senior, do I need an MBA to do that? And then also kind of like look at different people who are your, I guess, like career role models or career idols? And look at their paths. For them, like was grad school and MBA part of it? And was it a critical part? And kind of like try to like map that out for yourself. I would say that would be the first step.

• 20:56Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yeah, it's so funny listening to you guys because you guys have like the opposite experience. And I think when I realized I wanted to go into venture capital, I was like, how am I going to get there? Like, I don't have these resume virtues. I don't have any connections. Like, what am I going to do? And it was really interesting because I think like I've always just been like a very creative problem solver and thinker. But it takes a lot of creative thinking and like critical thinking. And there was no easy path. And I get a lot of probably the other girls that are like, I don't have the background or the the grades to get into these schools. But like, I want to do this, like, how do I do it? And I think for me, it's very much like if you are willing to take on the effort of like thinking differently, because it is a lot and being rejected like over and over and over again. And like constantly doubting yourself, like that's one way to do it.

• 21:41Maggie Sellers Reum?

And I think like for me, I actually put this out in my budget template where I was like, it's not about like, so my 50 20 20 10 budget, when I first started angel investing, it was not to make money. It was to get access. That's literally what I said to people. I was like, I'm putting 10 or $15,000 into companies, not because I think I'm making money from this. I actually don't think angel investing is a way to get rich. I am doing this to buy friends, to buy connections, to buy a network. Do you feel like that was one of the biggest takeaways that you got was like that access and those connections that have helped you now do what you really want to do in your career?

• 22:17Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, 100%. 100%. Like, I feel like for you, that 10 to 15K is actually, you can look at it as like a learning budget.

• 22:25Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yes.

• 22:25Speaker 03

  Like, that was you.

• 22:26Maggie Sellers Reum?

  That's literally what it's called.

• 22:26Speaker 03

Exactly. That's like you investing in yourself and being like, okay, if I can invest in these companies, then I have access to all of their, their numbers.

• 22:33Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Information.

• 22:34Speaker 03

I can see like what's driving them and then I can actually take that information. I can help other companies. Then that's makes me like a better advisor, a better investor. So I think that is so smart on your part to like, it's, you're technically investing in companies, but really you're investing in yourself.

• 22:48Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yes, that's like the hack I figured out. And that's something I really wanted to ask you guys, which was like, you guys are two of the smartest people I've had in these chairs. I actually don't want to learn what you learned about business at these organizations. I want to understand what you learned about power and being around people like that with power.

• 23:06Speaker 03

Oh, that's such a good question, Maggie.

• 23:09Speaker 01

• 24:39Speaker 02

I think, I mean, it's amazing to be in those spaces because being a student at Stanford, I think in the first like few months, I felt like very enamored and I'm like, oh my God, I'm around like this incredible, incredible institution with these amazing professors, alums and classmates. And then it becomes a little bit normal, which is kind of scary to say, but I think it's good because it made me realize that I'm like, these people who went to like Harvard undergrad and then they came to Stanford, I'm like, they're, they're normal. Like, everyone puts on their pants the exact same way. Like, they're not, right? They're like, like,

• 25:15Speaker 03

  They're real people.

• 25:16Speaker 02

One leg at a time. One leg at a time. Like, they're real people with like real insecurities. And I know we've said like resume virtues a lot. And like, you can have all those resume virtues and like gone to like great schools, worked at great places. But then like in addition to that, like, it's really important. And I know this sounds like obvious, but like, you have to also be a good person.

• 25:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:37Speaker 02

In business and in life and personal romantic relationships. Because like, being exposed to these people who have had like access and been in all these spaces and had really good jobs. But like, if you're not a good, kind, empathic person, like, I don't want to work with you either way. Like, you could be like the smartest person in the room, but like, I, I just don't want to be around that energy if it's not, if it's not a positive one.

• 26:00Speaker 03

I love that. Yeah. And I think over time, one thing that I've learned that is really important as part of like, power and sort of like owning your power is, maybe now, now that I'm thinking about it, it sounds a little cheesy, but it's actually being authentic.

• 26:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 26:15Speaker 03

And I know that sounds very like, people say it all the time, but I think I understand it so much better now. Because if, if you just even think about the people that you've interacted with and like you really connect with and you like, it's like, they're not always the same people, right? It's not like one type of person, but it's just someone who's like so fully themselves that you're like,

• 26:37Speaker 02

I I admire that so much and I respect that so much when people are just so fully themselves. Because then you feel like you can be fully yourself. It like puts you in a place where you are more. You're more, you know, Maggie, you're more Jean and like. I think that's kind of like, like a superpower that people have.

• 26:58Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, we have to talk about money because when you're around people like this, you are around a lot of money. What was your guys' mindset towards money when you were younger and where are you at with it now?

• 27:10Speaker 02

It's been a journey. It's definitely been a journey. I think, I mean, Jean and I grew up, we talked about this in our podcast in a couple of episodes, but like. We grew up in an immigrant household, so our our parents are immigrants. And I think in addition to that, they're like Asian immigrants, so there's like definitely an intersectionality there. We also grew up. On Long Island, um, so like on the east coast. So it was really interesting because like I think we got to see like all different sides of it, which kind of like inform. How we think now. Honestly, like I would say I grew up with a lot of scarcity mindset, which was like really hard to shake like. In college, like we're just like sometimes deciding like, do I have like, uh, I don't know, like decisions, I'm like.

• 27:50Speaker 02

I'm going out like downtown with my girlfriends and we're all getting sushi, but like I'm kind of nervous. I'm like, do I have like enough money to split the bill with my girlfriends and like in college and I'm making money tutoring. Like other students, like, I don't know, it's like a very like heightened.

• 28:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Awareness.

• 28:04Speaker 02

Awareness and just like nervous energy that I felt that I like, which was one of the reasons why I thought it was like so important and like Jean like. Helped coach me through this, but I'm like, when I graduate undergrad, like I need to get a high paying job. Like this is something I need because I have student loans. And I think through that, like it was a very scarcity mindset, but I've been working over the last like. I don't know, like eight years plus, but like, how do I change that to an abundance mindset and be like, they're like, because I work so hard, more good things will ha- happen and come. Come my way like financially and also like professionally, but I think it's like. It's like kind of scarring to grow up with a scarcity mindset. And like something that's really hard to shake.

• 28:42Speaker 03

I think what's one thing that is really interesting and maybe some people who come from like immigrant households or first gen can relate to. Is that I think there's also certain like different categories where you either have a scarcity or abundance mindset. Like for us, when we grew up, the the mindset or what was like drilled into us was like, education is everything. Education and like being able to get into an Ivy League school and get that degree is like your path to wherever you're trying to get in life. So like, that's why for us, you know, like, people are always like, oh, two hundred fifty K to go to business school. Like, I paid for that all myself. I used everything that I made and paid for HBS completely out of pocket.

• 29:22Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Through your own savings.

• 29:23Speaker 03

But through my own savings, but I like never thought twice about it. I was like, yeah.

• 29:27Maggie Sellers Reum?

  It didn't scare you?

• 29:28Speaker 03

No, I was like, well, first of all, I know I can make that money back. But then also I was like, education is worth it. That is something that I, we grew up being like, we should always invest in it. We should always like splurge on it, whatever. But other things, like investing in yourself in other ways, like literally before this year, I was never getting like regular blowouts.

• 29:49Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Right.

• 29:49Speaker 03

You know what I mean? Like, I was never.

• 29:50Speaker 02

And baby had her first hair blowout.

• 29:53Maggie Sellers Reum?

  And then she got addicted.

• 29:55Speaker 03

I'm actually addicted, but like all the other ways.

• 29:59Maggie Sellers Reum?

Like, I think it's like, this is actually something I talk about in my budget too. Because I've always thought about money so abundantly, like to a fault, I think. And that's a privilege that I grew up with, but it was really interesting when I actually moved to the States and I was like on visas. And I was like in threat of being picked kicked out of the country every single year. Like, if I get this Tesla, like, am I going to be able to drive it next year if I'm kicked out? If I sign this apartment lease, what if my visa doesn't get actually like renewed? And it was really interesting because it actually, for the first time, made me really like sit down and think about money and be like, how do I actually think about it? And I think it's unrealistic to think you're not going to buy Starbucks, you're not going to get a blowout, you're not going to get your nails done.

• 30:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:38Maggie Sellers Reum?

But then if you actually put all of that together and you're just living so like, whatever, it's actually crazy, you guys. I posted a TikTok today that was like, here are the three things that I'm doing in July that I didn't do in June. The first one was open up my bank account and credit card every single morning. One of the first comments I got from a girl was like, I'm gonna ignore one and I'm gonna go with two. And the two was like baddie affirmations. And it made me realize that like our women right now are so like, I don't even wanna look at what I'm spending money on. I'm just gonna buy and consume and that's not good. But getting the blowout, if that is like the one thing for your self wellness that week that makes you feel good. Like, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

• 31:19Maggie Sellers Reum?

But I think it's just people are so unaware of where they're spending their money. They don't wanna look at their credit card statements. They don't wanna look at their bills. And it's almost like ostrich syndrome. Like, if I don't see it, it's not there. For somebody that has gone from a scarcity to an abundance mindset, or has been really intentional with their money and it wasn't a question, what would you say to somebody that's struggling or is like, I am like not able to pull myself out of this? I'm working in corporate. What are like the first steps that they should be doing to figure out how to reach that financial freedom? Or at least just start?

• 31:56Speaker 02

Yeah. I mean, I think for me, when I was working my first job out of school, because I was still, it was like a really weird time. I was still stuck in that scarcity mindset. But for the first time, I was making like my own real adult money. So like, I didn't have to be anymore. I kinda had to learn how to turn that off. And I think it's kinda, it's like related to what you just shared. It's like, don't be afraid to know what's going on. Like, I was super avoidant. I was like, I don't know how much money I have saved up in my savings account or checking's account. What's going in my 401K? I just like wanna avoid and like not know. But that was like a really like anxiety inducing mindset. Cause then I didn't even know what my budget was or what my limit was.

• 32:37Speaker 02

And so like, I was super avoidant. And then Gina actually recommended this book to me called, I Will Teach You How To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. And like the first thing he goes into is just like, know how much you are spending every month. Because at that point, you can create like a budget for yourself of like, Guilt free spending is how he puts it. And that's kind of what you're talking about. It's like the budget for the blowouts, for the nails, for like the matcha that you want to buy.

• 33:03Speaker 03

  For the fleur de maire.

• 33:05Speaker 02

  Not sponsored, but hey.

• 33:07Speaker 03

But I, we might think, hey, we'd be open.

• 33:10Speaker 02

But it's like having that guilt free spending, but like, I don't know, my mantra, like one of my mantras is just like, don't be afraid to know yourself. And that could be like financially, that could be like going to therapy, that could be like going to the gym or whatever. But like, I feel so much more free, knowing, knowing.

• 33:27Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah. I, I love that response because I think part of what she was talking about was educating yourself. So like whether it's listening to Hot Smart Rich or listening to Tiger Sisters, like kinda if you're not surrounded by those people who are talking about money every day, surround yourself with it somehow, right? Like listen to the right podcasts, read the right books. Like there's so much information out there now. So like you can actually really, everyone today is in a much better place to learn things passively than we were like 10, 15 years ago. So I'd say that's like the first step that you literally just talked about. And then I think the second thing you can do is to sort of like find yourself an accountability buddy. Where it's like, okay, yeah, I don't want to look at my baking hut every day, but if I'm going to commit to doing it for a month,

• 34:12Speaker 03

let me find someone else who wants to do it with me. And then we can like check in with each other.

• 34:16Maggie Sellers Reum?

Jean, you actually just said something really funny that you're now borderline rich. Is that the same as a Henry? Do you know what a Henry is?

• 36:13Speaker 03

Yes, high earning, not yet rich.

• 36:16Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 36:19Speaker 03

I guess it's like similar. It's like sort of the same. I think like Henrys are like pre borderline rich, maybe. I mean, I don't know. That's like, I just made up the term where I'm like borderline rich. But it's kind of just something where it's like, you're like, am I rich? Like, I guess. But it's not something that you feel comfortable, especially as women, like saying it out loud, you know?

• 36:41Maggie Sellers Reum?

  That's why I'm so happy.

• 36:42Speaker 03

  Do you feel the same?

• 36:43Maggie Sellers Reum?

I'm just so happy that you said that because I'm like, I think the three words and why I called it like Hot, Smart, Rich, it's like, it's so polarizing as a woman. It's like, I'm hot, I'm smart, I'm rich. And it's like, people are like, what is that definition? Everyone wants to like, cut and break it up. And I'm like, it's honestly a feeling. And it's like a state of mind. And anybody can have that like Hot, Smart, Rich energy. But I think it's really interesting when you think about when you start to go from like worrying about paying your bills and like figuring out paycheck to paycheck to like having disposable income and figuring out, okay, like what are like the things that I desire, that I want to do? Now you guys are entrepreneurs and you're thinking about like, okay, I could reinvest this money into our business to let it grow, or I could buy this bag. How do you think about like your finances

• 37:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

in terms of what you want to reinvest? And what you want to just have fun and enjoy the life that you've worked like so hard to build?

• 37:36Speaker 03

  Because I struggle with that.

• 37:37Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 37:37Speaker 03

I love that question and I think actually in the past year, my thinking has evolved a lot on that. And I guess what I've realized this year is that like the business, everything is me. And same for you, everything is you, same for you, man. Everything is you. So like anything you do to invest in yourself, whether it's like traveling, whether it's, you know, buying tickets to go to the ballet and like investing in you opening your, your like aperture and learning more things and being more aware and being more part of the world. That's all an investment.

• 38:18Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 38:19Speaker 03

It, and it really took me a long time to get here.

• 38:22Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Mm hmm.

• 38:22Speaker 03

Um, I mean, even investing in how you feel day to day.

• 38:27Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 38:27Speaker 03

  Like, that's so important.

• 38:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

No, like my mental health is so up and down. Like I even this morning, like when my autoimmune disease started flaring up, I like could instantly tell my anxiety was like taking over. And for me, a non-negotiable is therapy. And like, that is the best investment in myself, in my relationship with my partner, because if I don't have an outlet, like our relationship isn't good because I'm the worst version of myself. So I think like the theme I hear and like from our conversation and a lot of conversations I have behind closed doors is like taking care of yourself and figuring out what that looks like for you. Because for you, it could be a blowout. For me, it could be keratin. For you, it could be matcha. Like you don't know what it is because it's so different. How do you feel like you best

• 39:09Maggie Sellers Reum?

identify that? Like when you're in that corporate grind, you're that girly that's like getting up at six AM, trying to fit in a workout, going to your job, trying to make friends, like going and meeting a boy. It's impossible. Like for that corporate girl that's listening, like how can they do that successfully?

• 39:26Speaker 03

I feel like so much of it is like.

• 39:28Speaker 02

Self-reflection and feeling like what really gives you energy and making sure that you protect that energy and kind of drawing a wall around it. I did this eh when I was twenty four and it was really important for me to kind of take, take stock of like what are the specific things that I need to do that are just for me. And this was actually happened after a breakup and I was like, I need to figure out how to like get back on.

• 39:54Maggie Sellers Reum?

Was this when you went to Hawaii by yourself?

• 39:56Speaker 02

This was when I went, when I did my first solo trip and going to Hawaii by myself for like four days was part of that.

• 40:01Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 40:02Speaker 02

Cause I'd never gone a solo trip before. I actually wanted to go to Paris and Jean was like, how about for your first solo trip, you go somewhere that's in the US and where you can actually speak the language fluently. And I was like, okay, fair point. But I think also part of that too was like figuring out, it was like, how do I make me feel like me again? And that could be like, okay, I need to do like spa day, my nails, like self-care. Part of that is therapy. Like what are the things that I love to do that I don't have to feel guilty for? And I really like how you mentioned the ballet. Like I know that's like completely random and like the ballet, but I think that's like a, an insight into like opening up your aperture and getting more learning and more life experience in whatever way you want to define it. It could be doing like a solo trip.

• 40:45Speaker 02

It could be going to the ballet, but it's like, kind of like an cultural outlet and like, kind of like how Jean was saying, like investing in education is like never a bad thing. I think investing in experiences is never a bad thing. Cause going to a museum could change how you think about something. A piece of artwork could inspire you. That inspires the creativity for the next episode of Hot Smart Rich. Like all these things are interconnected and that's just like an investment in yourself and then it ends up being an investment in your business.

• 41:12Maggie Sellers Reum?

It's so funny that you say that because my sister knows like when I'm really, I have like serious mental health problems. When I'm really dark, it's when I've been alone in a room. When I used to have my apartment, when I like, we didn't have a house together. Like I would be alone for like three or four days and I would be so anxious and so sad. And my sister was like, you need to go work at a coffee shop. You need to go work at the Mayborn Hotel in the lobby. Romanticize a twelve dollar matcha. And at the time you're thinking like, wait, I'm hearing that like twelve are making me poor, but like if you think about it in that way, like you're actually buying an invitation to sit along people who inspire you, even if you see a business meeting or you see a lovely outfit being put together. And that was a way that I crawled out of really dark holes when I was like going through my crazy breakup. I like was so lost and I was

• 41:56Maggie Sellers Reum?

just like, I need to be in environments that really stimulate me. And even if it means like going to the ballet or going on a trip or doing that, that's where I find like I've never regretted that money. And then having that abundance mindset where you're like, I'm gonna make it back. It doesn't mean you're going to Paris and then buying the 10 bags, but like you're going and you're having that experience. But I feel like people are so afraid to do that because they're like, I don't want to make that leap. But that I always feel like is the number one thing you have to do.

• 42:24Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, it's always just five bags. Come on.

• 42:26Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah, just five.

• 42:27Speaker 03

  The VAT tax.

• 42:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

And the exchange rate. If somebody is listening to this and is thinking like, I want to go work at a startup, what do you guys think the best startups are that they should be working at?

• 42:37Speaker 03

I mean, I think there's a lot of ways you can answer that question. It really depends on the person you are. So for me personally, I am such a product driven person. And like the reason, so the funny thing is so before we started Tiger Sisters together, I was working at Snapchat and I actually was there for about six and a half years.

• 42:58Maggie Sellers Reum?

And don't be humble. Tell us what you did at Snapchat.

• 43:01Speaker 03

I was the head of product for augmented reality shopping and AR ads. So I built up the whole AR ad platform and grew it to a $300 million a year business, which was crazy. It was an insane time, but really fun, learned a lot, crazy. But so when I applied for that job out of HBS, it was actually the only job that I applied for. And they never even told me that I got the role until after I graduated. And the funny thing is, I was with my ex at the time, my ex fiance, who he had also applied for jobs in LA. And he was like, because we were going to move to LA together.

• 43:45Maggie Sellers Reum?

  And he was at HBS?

• 43:46Speaker 03

He was at HBS with me. And I was like, yeah, I'm gonna get this job at Snapchat and I'm moving to LA. So like, feel free to come with me. And so he

• 43:54Maggie Sellers Reum?

  I can see the demise.

• 43:57Speaker 03

So he had applied for a consulting job, which they apply for and get like really early on the year, like in like October, November. And so he had got the job and he had taken it. And then literally it was like eight months of me not even having the job at Snap and he he kept sending me roles and was like, hey, do you want to maybe like apply for this other job? Because like you still haven't heard back from Snapchat. But I was just like, no, this is the perfect role for me. Like, I know I'm perfect for this job, because it's all the things I want to do. It's like this element of creativity. It's this element of business. It's like the perfect combination. And I was like, I'm the perfect person for the job. And it's the perfect role for me. I'm gonna get it. And I don't know why I had this sort of like insane, like delusional conviction. But I was just like, I know this is right

• 44:42Speaker 03

for me. And I never even applied for another job. And I ended up getting it the week after graduation, or they like finally let me know that I had it the week after graduation. But I think to to go back to answer your question, for me, it's all about the product. I loved using Snapchat. I was like, there's something really amazing about this product. There's something magical. I need to be there. Like, I want to be the person inventing all these things.

• 45:06Maggie Sellers Reum?

Wow, I love that. So I think it's like identifying what you love, and then going out. So if you're a brand person, it's like find the company with the brand that's like just killing it right now, that you can do fun things with. Like, I think I actually would have a lot of fun at a company like Oura Ring, because it's such an amazing brand. It's a very simple technology. But like, I think they could be doing a lot more in terms of like partnership and go to market. And like, I'm not a product person, but I could imagine the ways that like, that could evolve from a very simple tool. So for me, I would be like, Oura Ring would probably be my ideal company to work at right now.

• 45:38Speaker 03

Yeah, exactly. Like, whatever gets you excited, where you can be like, oh, if I was the CMO of that company, I would do A, B, C, D, E, F, G. And it's like, comes to you naturally.

• 45:47Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Okay, I love that.

• 45:47Speaker 02

And you're using the product every single day. So you're like, I know what I like, I know what I don't like. And this is what I would change. I would say, like, on a related note, if I were thinking about startups, especially if it's like a smaller startup, there's only so many people there. So looking at who the people are, and if they have like any interviews online, or like, any like, press releases or

• 46:06Speaker 03

Whatever like really understanding like who are the founders and like the people who are making the decisions at the company. Because like if you're working at a small startup and it's like less than thirty people, less than fifty people. Like your day to day will be so influenced by the leadership team. And like, do you even, I mean, there's probably smart and like hustlers, but like, do you like them as people? Do you respect them? Because their decisions will impact your work and then also in turn impact your mental health.

• 46:32Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yeah. For someone that holds fifty patents in AI. Obviously, we're hearing about AI and it's like a concern for a lot of people that don't have an engineering background. Is, are there companies in the AI space that you think are really good to learn from for all of these women listening that are like, I want to work at an AI company? Or do you think that this is all just like hype and that like it's gonna die down?

• 46:54Speaker 03

I think actually it's the opposite of what a lot of people think. I actually think what's really valuable in AI today is having a creative mindset. It's like coming in and like, because a lot of what is being built in today in AI is already so commodified, right? It's just like building the next level of the same sort of like model, right? So like sort of continuing on that curve of improving the model. But what's different is gonna be how you're gonna apply it. So like if you come in and you have sort of like a creative mindset, a different way of going about things, like having a sort of

• 47:30Speaker 03

almost like a liberal arts background, I think is actually the the killer.

• 47:35Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Thank God. Thank God.

• 47:37Speaker 03

Yeah. I mean, we don't need another backend engineer.

• 47:42Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 47:43Speaker 03

  Hate to say it.

• 47:43Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Wow.

• 47:48Speaker 03

I mean, we always need another one. Love you guys, but.

• 47:51Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yeah, no, I see like the creative aspect is what makes things more unique and special. And like having a liberal arts degree, kind of like expanding your worldview with like, how do you connect like that creative? Like inspiration that you saw at that museum with the AI, like that is a lot harder to replicate.

• 48:09Speaker 03

Yeah, I think that's why we're also such big proponents of the arts, like going to the museum, like going to the dance shows, like seeing all that stuff to like open your mind. And just think. A little bit differently than like the 99% of everyone else who's like, "Yeah, we should use AI to do XYZ." Like, I think that's gonna be...

• 48:29Speaker 02

Well, especially because Jean and I come from like the tech and business world. We're so deeply embedded in that tech mindset that the thing that really does stand out is when you come from the other side, like the creative side.

• 48:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 50:11Maggie Sellers Reum?

You mentioned with an ex fiance, which we share.

• 50:16Speaker 03

  Different person.

• 50:16Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Different person.

• 50:19Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Funny way of putting it.

• 50:21Speaker 03

  It's a special, it's a special club we're in.

• 50:23Maggie Sellers Reum?

It is, and by the way, it's a lot more common than you would think.

• 50:25Speaker 03

Yeah, well, that's why also I think it's so important that we talk about it. Because I hadn't really heard about that many people talking about that. And I saw when you talked about it, it was really impactful for me. So, thank you so much for putting yourself out there when it was going on. And I know it couldn't have been easy.

• 50:41Maggie Sellers Reum?

No, it's definitely one of those things where I remember like two women that were very ambitious, successful, that I had heard had gone through this. And like at the time, I didn't know anybody. And now, like I would, you would be shocked at how many successful driven women have come to me, being like, I've called off engagements too. I just like, nobody knows about it. So, I do want to talk about dating because I think it's really important for women like us that are ambitious, driven, successful, have money in the bank, are hot smart rich. We're hearing all about this dating crisis and like that there's nobody left. And so, being two women that are, well, yours now seeing somebody, but like now being available.

• 51:20Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 51:21Maggie Sellers Reum?

I really want to talk about dating and like some interesting questions with it.

• 51:24Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 51:26Speaker 03

  I'm scared.

• 51:26Maggie Sellers Reum?

Have you guys ever dated someone who made less money than you?

• 51:30Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 51:31Maggie Sellers Reum?

  How is that?

• 51:32Speaker 03

Um, so that was actually recently, uh, one of the people that I was seeing. And it's very, it's interesting. Actually, this person opened my mind in so many ways because I'd never experienced dating someone like that. I've always dated someone who was like sort of in my immediate circle, right? So, either someone that I worked with or someone that I went to school with, who was like kind of in the same vicinity as me.

• 51:58Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Same like career minded.

• 52:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:01Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 52:03Speaker 03

  What was it like?

• 52:08Speaker 03

I don't know. It's interesting. Like, they have

• 52:12Speaker 03

a different mindset. And I think like, part of the reason why, not to put words in this person's mouth, but I think part of the reason why he loved being with me is because I surprised him with the fact that I had such an expansive mindset. And I think he always used to say to me, he was like, "I've never met someone like you before." Maybe that's just a line, but...

• 52:34Maggie Sellers Reum?

I don't think I've ever met someone like you either, and I've only known you for like an hour.

• 52:38Speaker 03

But he'd be like, "I've never met someone like you before," because he would bring something up and I would, that he wanted to do. And I was, and I would always be like, "Well, of course you could do that." Like, of course. Like, you have all these attributes. Like, why not you? You could definitely do that. And in fact, don't just think about like, level one. Like, why wouldn't you be doing it at the level 10? Like, that's just so obvious to me. And he was like, "What? Like, you think I could do that?" Like, I, I don't know. I hadn't really like, thought about. I was like, "Yeah, why would you just, just think about it at level one?" Like, you're, you're worthy of level 10.

• 53:07Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 53:07Speaker 03

And so I think that that maybe is something that I didn't even realize that I like, had in me, until I was with someone who didn't have it inherently. And then I like, gave it to him, sort of.

• 53:20Maggie Sellers Reum?

Was that something, though, that with the partner that you're looking for, that you want them to inherently have? Like, that was one of the reasons it didn't work out for you?

• 53:29Speaker 03

Um, I don't think it's the reason why it didn't work out, but yes, 100%. It's really important to me that my partner also has that really sort of like expansive worldview, like, kind of like abundance mindset, and really believes in me, and like, sees me as someone who can do anything that I put my mind to. Because I think that's just like, sort of like my personality, and I need to be with someone that fosters that, because I'm also naturally like, giving that to the other person. And so it's, you're not coming at it with like... Equal efforts, then you just end up giving all of yourself and all of that to the other person and you don't, you kind of start like shrinking.

• 54:14Speaker 02

Yeah, it's like fire plus fire equals more fire.

• 54:18Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yeah, but do you think that there is a situation in which like there are women listening to this that are that fire and they need someone who's more like, who's not necessarily an expander for them, but is a supporter. And I think for me, the reason I called off my engagement was like, I was with somebody, it was just the beginning of, it wasn't even called Hot Smart Rich. I remember I would make videos, um, oh my God, what was this company called? I don't even remember it now. But I made a video that was like, I wouldn't invest in this company. And it was like, all the rage. And he would be the type of person that was like, don't post that video. Don't put a target on your back. Don't do this. Don't do that. And I felt really like my light was being dimmed down. And I think there's a difference with that when you're a high-powered, ambitious female. And then there's just the people who like, can't keep up. But it's not because they're not like

• 55:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

supportive and nurturing almost in the ways that like, you often see in male, like female heterosexual relationships. So I think it's really important. It's not necessarily that you need the fire. It's more you need someone who's not going to try to take water and like, burn your flame out, right? Or water your flame out. What about for you, Shuri? Like, have you overdated someone who's made less money than you, or has been less ambitious than you?

• 55:28Speaker 02

I'm, it's hard to say because I'm thinking about my most recent relationships.

• 55:34Maggie Sellers Reum?

  The one you're currently in?

• 55:35Speaker 02

No, the ones before that, that were in business school. And like, those are the ones that just happened over the last like, two years. So I feel like recency bias, I'm like, those are the ones that are on my mind. And they're like, so ambitious as well. But I think a lot of, I mean, what you just said really rings true. Because I have dated people in the past that it's, it's not even about like, the money, but it is about the support in like, what I'm doing. Even before I posted, like publicly online, I think, feeling supported in your career, that like, if we are ambitious, we are driven, you want someone to like, You know, be proud of you for that.

• 56:11Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 56:11Speaker 02

Like, rather than like embarrassed in that way. And you can feel that in like the tiniest interactions or the tiniest things that like, maybe they don't like, it really adds up if they aren't supportive. And I have had partners who weren't supportive of my career in that way, or what I'm doing on social media. And I think that can be really harmful. It's in romantic relationships and in friendships too, if they just like, don't get what you're doing. Like, oh, that's nice. Like, you have a little podcast. And it's like, it's actually my whole like, career. And like, I'm doing something that's like, very meaningful for me. And so.

• 56:44Maggie Sellers Reum?

  It's a growing media empire.

• 56:45Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 56:46Maggie Sellers Reum?

Have you ever had to downplay your success on a date?

• 56:49Speaker 02

  I don't.

• 56:51Maggie Sellers Reum?

  When's your birthday?

• 56:52Speaker 02

I'm a Leo. She's a Leo, ladies and gentlemen. Yes. Ladies and gentlemen, in case you had any concern. And also youngest child energy. And youngest cousin energy. Oh, wow. I'm like the baby of the entire family. I just, I think people should know what they're getting them, themselves into.

• 57:09Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 57:09Speaker 02

Like, there have been points, I think it's harder. Um, it was harder when I was, I think in my early twenties, because I was definitely like, less sure of myself, less confident in like, what I like, bring to the table, like professionally or personally. But like, I think over the last few years, I've become very proud of who I am, especially because I've like, worked super hard on like, figuring out who I am, what I enjoy as like a person. And I'm like, I think I like myself. And like, this is through like, therapy and like, working through like, really hard stuff. And like, discarding the scarcity mindset and getting into abundance mindset, like, all of that. And so now that like, when I am on dates and like, dating someone new, I'm like, this is what you get. Like, this

• 57:52Speaker 02

is who I am. And if you don't like it, that's, that's okay. Because like, I like myself.

• 57:56Maggie Sellers Reum?

Yeah. I love that. That's very powerful to hear.

• 58:00Speaker 02

For me, I'm new to dating. So.

• 58:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

How long were you with your ex for?

• 58:04Speaker 02

  Eight years.

• 58:05Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Oh, my god.

• 58:06Speaker 02

So I haven't been single since I was in my mid twenties.

• 58:09Maggie Sellers Reum?

Oh, my god, you're me, literally, three years ago. By the way, can I tell you one piece of advice?

• 58:13Speaker 02

  Yes, please.

• 58:15Maggie Sellers Reum?

So, well, I just feel like we're gonna be friends. I have like, a million things I was gonna tell you, but.

• 58:19Speaker 02

  Yeah, same.

• 58:20Maggie Sellers Reum?

The one thing I will say is like, kind of like, this emergence of like, I loved dating. I was that girl that my friends were so happy to set up with because I was not that girl being like dating LA sucks and everybody's horrible and nobody's good enough for me and my my friends would be like it's so refreshing to be around you because like you're so excited about it and sometimes like my boyfriend now always says he's like you really like talk about how you loved being single but like it wasn't for the reasons that he thinks it's because like I was able to be so selfish and able to have new experiences and like go surfing surfing at six o'clock in the morning when the sun's coming up in Malibu and like do these crazy things that like you don't get to do when you're in a relationship.

• 59:02Maggie Sellers Reum?

And so I think like the more that you put yourself out there in a space where you're just like this is amazing and exciting and like I'm gonna learn something. The more people want to set you up with people, the more you attract that. And I'm so tired of hearing girls be like there's nobody good for me. Dating is horrible because then like you're attracting that energy. What do you feel like the energy? Are you just like not dating because you're not ready to attract energy right now?

• 59:25Speaker 03

Oh, no. So I actually did start dating this year. So I it's so funny. It's like all about energy. You're so right because I was single for like, you know, half a year and I wasn't dating anyone. I was sort of just like

• 59:39Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Healing.

• 59:40Speaker 03

Healing. And then I was like my new year's resolution goal was okay, I'm gonna make a Bumble profile. I'm gonna do it and then I'm gonna officially be single because then you're kind of like you're making an advertisement. You're like literally putting yourself out there on the internet and be like I'm single.

• 59:52Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Was it January first?

• 59:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:54Maggie Sellers Reum?

Wait, this was me three years ago.

• 59:56Speaker 03

  Why are we the same?

• 59:57Maggie Sellers Reum?

No, literally, I was like January first, I'm gonna download dating apps.

• 1:00:00Speaker 03

Literally did that. Yeah, so I did that. And then it's so funny because it's not that I met people on the app, but it was like all of a sudden my energy changed. And I shit you not, Maggie, everywhere I went, people were asking me out. And it's not like like I literally, I was on a date with a guy I was seeing at his friend's birthday party and his friend's friend asked me out.

• 1:00:26Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Did you say yes?

• 1:00:27Speaker 03

He asked me out later via text.

• 1:00:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Did you say yes?

• 1:00:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:00:31Speaker 03

And also, he was 26. I was like, would you go younger? I mean, I kind of shocked myself even like going on that date because like we said, I'm 36. And I'm like, I'm like, do you know, I'm like, I feel like I like dropped a lot of clues. I was like, in my 15 year career. Blah, blah, blah.

• 1:00:52Maggie Sellers Reum?

Wait, who pays on the first date?

• 1:00:54Speaker 03

  Oh, obviously always the guy.

• 1:00:55Maggie Sellers Reum?

Even if you're more successful and older?

• 1:00:57Speaker 03

  Hundred percent.

• 1:00:58Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Thank God.

• 1:00:58Speaker 03

  A thousand percent.

• 1:00:59Maggie Sellers Reum?

  I can't wait.

• 1:01:00Speaker 03

I mean, I mean, come on, like you have to bring something to the table.

• 1:01:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:04Speaker 03

And like also everything, the way that we show up, like we've already invested thousands of dollars.

• 1:01:10Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:11Speaker 03

Into ourselves and so the way that we look and the way that, you know, we're coming to the table.

• 1:01:16Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:16Speaker 03

So they need to bring something.

• 1:01:18Maggie Sellers Reum?

No, I'm literally like, do you know what my bills are to look for this date? Like you are paying. It's crazy. Has it ever been confused if you're trying to network or if you're like interested in somebody? Can I tell you guys my most embarrassing story?

• 1:01:33Speaker 03

I'm gonna tell you one after this.

• 1:01:35Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay. So when I was trying to break into VC before I was like, I'm going to become an investor on my own. And I was interviewing, well, I had a friend that was an associate at this fund. It's probably like a $50 million fund. And it was kind of like incubated out of a corporate company. So it was like a corporate venture arm. So like the guy that was running it was like the most senior person there, but he was probably like 33 at the time. I was probably like 25, 26. And I thought he was like the coolest, most sexy person I've ever seen in my life. But like, the way that we ended up connecting was like over a lunch at Croft Alley in Beverly Hills. And so like, I didn't really know if it was a date or if it was like, not an, it was no interview, but like, just like a networking conversation.

• 1:02:18Maggie Sellers Reum?

And so the whole lunch, I'm like trying to figure it out, like being very flirty and then. He's, he's staring at the street. I'm staring inwards towards Russia. He's like, some idiot like left their car with the trunk up like everyone keeps taking stuff out of the car. And literally when we get up from the lunch, I realized that is my car. Oh my god. And so he's like, let me walk you to your car. And I'm like, no, like, I'm actually gonna go run some errands. And I was like, this man probably thinks if he saw that that is my car, that I am like this stupid as he's never gonna hire me for a job. He's never gonna ask me out on a date. So it was like a complete write off, but he did add me on Instagram and to this day, he still looks at all my stories. Oh my god.

• 1:03:01Speaker 03

  That's so funny.

• 1:03:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

He's a fan. But like, I couldn't tell if it was like, are you interested or am I gonna get a job through you? But it was just like the best thing ever.

• 1:03:12Speaker 03

Okay, my story is kind of like the opposite of that.

• 1:03:14Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Okay.

• 1:03:15Speaker 03

Because I had what I thought was just a networking lunch because I asked a friend of mine from HBS. I was like, oh, can you reconnect me with your friend? Who's like sort of in like this sort of world and had been doing it for a while because I was like, I wanted to ask him about, you know, like an investment thing. And so he reconnected us and we ended up having lunch together at Noe House. And like the whole time, and when I had met this person five years ago, he was in a relationship, like very serious relationship.

• 1:03:43Maggie Sellers Reum?

  And so were you?

• 1:03:43Speaker 03

Yes, and so was I. So like, it was like totally chill. And so when we reconnected, at the end of it, and it was like very flirty vibes from him. Like the whole time when I was like, what's going on? Like, I thought this was like a networking thing. And then afterwards, he texted me and it ended up asking me out. And we dated for a few months.

• 1:04:02Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Oh, I love that.

• 1:04:04Speaker 03

And so that was like, so I mean, generally, I agree with you. Like, I've had a really positive experience of dating in LA so far. I mean, it's only been like half a year and I don't know. The question for me is that like, I haven't really dated anyone like super seriously that I thought would be Like your husband? My husband. But like the two people that I did date like put together, they'd be perfect. So you'll find them. It's not how it goes. Yeah.

• 1:04:33Speaker 02

I, I think I love, like as your little sister, I love seeing you get back out there and kind of like interact. I don't know. And just like, put yourself out there after a really long time. And also like, after like a really dark time of going through really like, I don't know, sad stuff.

• 1:04:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:04:51Speaker 02

And so it's actually Jean's like not kidding when she says that like, people ask her out and like talk to her like, the power of this blowout, I don't know what it is.

• 1:05:01Speaker 03

I love how we attribute it all to the blowout.

• 1:05:03Speaker 02

It's like her energy, it's the blowout, but like when we go out and she has her hair done, I don't want to talk to anyone. Like we'll be going out and like getting sushi, but like people will go up to Jean and like start conversations. And I'm like, I just need my like solo, don't talk to anyone time. And then we did, we ended up going to um Kazunori and like sitting at the bar and getting sushi. And for like an hour and a half, these two guys were asking Jean questions after like an entire day. Like we had come back from a conference and like I couldn't do it. But I was just like, this is a lot. This is a lot. So.

• 1:05:33Speaker 03

  That's amazing.

• 1:05:33Speaker 02

But I think it's the energy that you put out there. Like you have to, it's your body language. It's like how you show up and like, are you open to having conversations? So I am really proud of you for that.

• 1:05:42Speaker 03

Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Yeah. And I think, I don't know, some people say, I don't know how you ended up meeting your boyfriend or like dating um over the last few years, but people are saying to me like, oh, you need to sort of like start putting it out there that you're single and like tell people that you're open to being set up.

• 1:06:02Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:06:02Speaker 03

  Which I guess I've never.

• 1:06:03Speaker 02

Jean's single and she's open to being set up.

• 1:06:05Speaker 03

Hello, hot smart rich. So Gina's single. To the ninety percent female. I know. Thank God. Keep it that way though. I don't want any men in here. Yeah.

• 1:06:15Maggie Sellers Reum?

But I agree with that. Is that what you did? I got set up through a mutual friend who's actually a VC and I, it's so funny because looking back, like it is not who I thought would find me my person. But it was interesting, like thinking about where I found success. It was around putting myself out there and not really on the dating apps. That was fun. But it's really around the energy that you carry into the room. And it's interesting because like even Bumble just cut 30% of their workforce, right? Like they're really struggling with dating and dating in general is just shifting a lot where there's run clubs now, there's like, there's museums that people are going to like before actually I met my boyfriend in real life, I actually saw him at Freeze. So like we both collect art and I would like knew because I had seen him that like, oh,

• 1:07:00Maggie Sellers Reum?

he likes art. So I think when you're in an environment where you actually understand the person beyond what they want to show you, it's a really good way to understand a first filter of like, is this person actually going to be interested in the same stuff?

Whenever fall comes back around, it always feels like a fresh start. This year I've been layering in some styles from the new Lululemon fall drop because the weather is shifting and I find I have to be ready for the entire day and not just one part of it. Lululemon's fall line has some really versatile transitional pieces. So I can just wake up, throw on a matching set, add a jacket or a fleece and head out, knowing that I'll feel comfortable enough to go wherever the day takes me. Check out the new fall arrivals in store and online now at lululemon.com.

• 1:08:42Maggie Sellers Reum?

At least for me, one of the biggest reasons I left my last relationship was like our lack of compatibility of interests. I don't think we prioritize that enough because we talk about all the things of like being a supportive partner, like being ambitious. But like truly, my sister and I said this in the last podcast episode, there are a lot of Wednesdays. There are a lot of days where you have to figure out like, what do you guys enjoy doing? Do you like the same shows? Do you like doing the same things? Do, does one of you want to go on a mounting vacation? Or does one of you want to like stay at home and just have staycations? And those things of like understanding habits and like hobbies. I'd never prioritize before my boyfriend now.

• 1:09:24Maggie Sellers Reum?

And truly like, he is my best friend where it's like, I have been away from him for nine days and like my heart hurts. Like I've never found that before, but it's because we enjoy doing the same things. Yeah. So I think like getting an understanding, when someone asks you, my piece of advice is this, when I ask women who are single, like,

• 1:09:44Maggie Sellers Reum?

what's your type? And they're like, no type, just like ambitious and like whatever. I'm like, no, like actually don't say like no type, but like what I enjoy doing is X, Y, and Z. Because then we're able to filter and be like, who do I know that enjoys doing that? Cause obviously we're going to go for like the basics of like, he has to be driven and amazing human and like great with our family. And all the things that you want, those are table stakes. Yeah. What are the things that are going to keep you excited like 10 years from now? That's what you should put out into the world. Okay. Yeah. Um, okay, you guys, I could talk to you forever, but you set a timer at four o'clock, so I have seven minutes. Um, I love rapid fire. I have to do it before we finish. And like, you're going to have to come back on because I had to talk about like younger eldest sibling dynamics, like working with family. So that's a part two. Yeah.

• 1:10:29Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Um, let's go rapid fire.

• 1:10:35Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Who's gonna go first?

• 1:10:37Speaker 02

  Do we do trading off?

• 1:10:38Maggie Sellers Reum?

Let's trade off. So who's starting first?

• 1:10:41Speaker 03

  You can go first.

• 1:10:41Speaker 02

  Okay, thank you. So kind.

• 1:10:44Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay. First class flight or an Hermes Kelly?

• 1:10:48Speaker 02

  Ooh.

• 1:10:50Speaker 03

That's a better question for me.

• 1:10:51Speaker 02

That's a better question for Jean because we might have different answers.

• 1:10:53Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, fine. Then you go, Jean.

• 1:10:55Speaker 03

  Okay, the Kelly.

• 1:10:56Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Love it.

• 1:10:57Speaker 03

  Yeah, same.

• 1:10:57Speaker 02

  Because the resale value.

• 1:10:58Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:59Speaker 03

Duh. I mean, and obviously you're getting it from the SA in store. You're not buying it resale yourself.

• 1:11:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:03Speaker 03

Although I have bought one at resale and I love it.

• 1:11:05Speaker 02

  But you'll resell it again.

• 1:11:06Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:06Speaker 02

  If you want.

• 1:11:08Maggie Sellers Reum?

Um, okay, Shari, viral TikTok, thirty million plus views?

• 1:11:13Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:11:13Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Or Wall Street Journal feature?

• 1:11:15Speaker 02

  Wall Street Journal feature.

• 1:11:16Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Love it.

• 1:11:17Speaker 02

  There's more longevity there.

• 1:11:18Speaker 03

  All day.

• 1:11:18Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:19Speaker 02

  All day.

• 1:11:19Maggie Sellers Reum?

Long. Um, one for the both of you. Who gets the ick faster?

• 1:11:24Speaker 02

  Hmm. I think Jean.

• 1:11:26Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:27Speaker 02

Jean's a bit more, and I don't mean this in a mean way, like you're a bit more judgmental or like you make quick judgments.

• 1:11:31Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:11:32Speaker 02

So you get the ick more.

• 1:11:33Speaker 03

That's true. Like, I can get, so I can tell within like one tenth of a second if it's like not.

• 1:11:41Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Okay.

• 1:11:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:11:42Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay. Um. Okay, this one's for Jean too. Date tech bro or finance bro?

• 1:11:48Speaker 03

Oh, I've done both. I've done a lot of both. I think maybe we're coming back around to finance.

• 1:11:54Speaker 02

  Whoa.

• 1:11:55Maggie Sellers Reum?

  What do we think?

• 1:11:56Speaker 03

  I like it.

• 1:11:57Speaker 02

I didn't know you were gonna say that.

• 1:11:58Speaker 03

Am I influenced by that song from last year?

• 1:12:00Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:12:00Maggie Sellers Reum?

Six Five Blue Eyes. I love it. Um, okay, Shari, um, fighting with your sister or fighting with internet trolls?

• 1:12:08Speaker 02

Ooh, like which one's better or worse?

• 1:12:10Maggie Sellers Reum?

Like, what do you have to, you have to pick one?

• 1:12:13Speaker 02

  Fighting with my sister.

• 1:12:16Speaker 03

She thought we were in a fight the other day.

• 1:12:18Speaker 02

We were in a fight. You're being so rude. Like, I was like editing something. I don't even remember what happened. It was just, this is what happens when we live together.

• 1:12:25Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:12:26Speaker 02

We work together. We spend like basically twenty-four seven together.

• 1:12:29Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:29Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah, I came in and I was like, oh, do you want like a cup of water or something? And she was like, I thought we were in a fight.

• 1:12:35Speaker 02

That was her trying to apologize by giving me a cup of water. That's the context there. Like, she didn't say sorry or like, she just brought in a cup of water. She's like, are you thirsty?

• 1:12:43Maggie Sellers Reum?

Um, okay, Shari, six AM workout or six PM workout?

• 1:12:48Speaker 02

Six AM. I'm a morning person.

• 1:12:50Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Okay, love that.

• 1:12:51Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 1:12:51Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Are you?

• 1:12:52Speaker 03

  I'm a night owl.

• 1:12:52Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Oh, interesting.

• 1:12:54Speaker 03

  What are you?

• 1:12:55Maggie Sellers Reum?

I used to be a morning person and now my I am a night owl.

• 1:13:00Speaker 03

  What's your natural sleep time?

• 1:13:01Maggie Sellers Reum?

If I could pick any time to go to sleep, it would be like ten thirty.

• 1:13:06Speaker 03

  That's a night owl.

• 1:13:08Maggie Sellers Reum?

  No, I don't do that.

• 1:13:09Speaker 03

  Goal.

• 1:13:09Maggie Sellers Reum?

No, no, no, that's my goal. Like, I usually am up until eleven thirty. Yeah.

• 1:13:15Speaker 03

I think my natural sleep time, sleep time is one AM.

• 1:13:18Maggie Sellers Reum?

Oh, my god. Yeah, that's not funny. She's like, you have problems.

• 1:13:23Speaker 03

Yeah, you have an illness. Get well soon.

• 1:13:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, Shree, splurge on wellness or on fashion?

• 1:13:31Speaker 03

  Wellness.

• 1:13:32Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Jean?

• 1:13:33Speaker 03

  Fashion. I love fashion.

• 1:13:36Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, both of you, all of you guys are, or both of you are answering these last three.

• 1:13:40Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 1:13:40Maggie Sellers Reum?

Net zero inbox or zero calendar appointments for the week?

• 1:13:43Speaker 03

Zero calendar appointments. Zero calendar appointments. Could you imagine?

• 1:13:47Maggie Sellers Reum?

It's the best thing in though. Like, that is when you know you've made it.

• 1:13:50Speaker 03

  You control your own schedule.

• 1:13:51Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Your own thing.

• 1:13:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:13:53Maggie Sellers Reum?

Um, Zoom or in real life meeting?

• 1:13:56Speaker 03

  I real life.

• 1:13:58Maggie Sellers Reum?

I love that. Imagine I was like, can we podcast but Zoom with me? No.

• 1:14:02Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:14:03Maggie Sellers Reum?

Um, okay, remote or in the office?

• 1:14:06Speaker 03

In the office. Yeah, in office.

• 1:14:08Maggie Sellers Reum?

Okay, Gen Z, listen up. Listen to the pros. If you want to be anybody, you need to go into the office.

• 1:14:15Speaker 03

  Things are different in person.

• 1:14:17Maggie Sellers Reum?

I don't think I would be anywhere close to where I'm at today if I hadn't had that in-person experience.

• 1:14:22Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, people need to experience your energy. Like, they need to be around you to, like, fully experience.

• 1:14:28Maggie Sellers Reum?

Am I the same online as I am in real life?

• 1:14:30Speaker 03

I think you're even better in person.

• 1:14:32Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Oh, that's so nice.

• 1:14:33Speaker 03

And you're like so great online. Like, a lot of your personality and like your liveliness comes across online, but you're even better in person.

• 1:14:40Maggie Sellers Reum?

  You guys.

• 1:14:41Speaker 03

Okay, she's even prettier in person.

• 1:14:42Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:43Speaker 03

  Like, seriously.

• 1:14:45Maggie Sellers Reum?

I honestly don't think I've ever, Christian knows, I've never finished a podcast and been like, I don't want your timer to go off, but I have two minutes and I did a good job. Um, you guys, my community is the best because they always want to know how they can help you guys. Obviously, they're going to listen to the podcast, but tell us where they can find it, what day it comes out, and then. Anything else that you're working on, like are you hiring people? Like what else can they help you guys with?

• 1:15:07Speaker 02

• 1:15:39Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:40Speaker 02

  And then-

• 1:15:41Maggie Sellers Reum?

  And what about the matcha?

• 1:15:42Speaker 02

And yes, so Jean and I started this matcha brand. We didn't even really get to talk about it too much.

• 1:15:46Maggie Sellers Reum?

There was a whole cue card for that.

• 1:15:47Speaker 02

Um, we started it about a year ago, and this is a matcha farm that Jean and I both lived and worked on.

• 1:15:54Maggie Sellers Reum?

  In Japan.

• 1:15:54Speaker 02

In Japan. This is a passion, a project that is passion and love. Um, we designed this entire can ourselves.

• 1:16:02Maggie Sellers Reum?

  I love it. So cute.

• 1:16:04Speaker 02

Yeah, this is like a small family farm, an hour outside of Kyoto, in a little town called Wazuka, which is next to Uji, which is the matcha capital of Japan. This is like the good stuff, and it is from a small family farm. That's like literally my boss, the farmer, his wife, their like kid, and like their five employees. And so we harvested matcha on this farm like a month ago in May when we went to visit.

• 1:16:30Speaker 03

We literally harvested the exact matcha that is now almost arrived.

• 1:16:34Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's coming.

• 1:16:36Maggie Sellers Reum?

  Oops. See, there's the alarm.

• 1:16:38Speaker 02

Um, and you can find it at sistersmatcha.com or at sisters dot matcha on Instagram. We like build in public. We kind of show you our ups and downs of creating this matcha company. Um, and you kind of see more of our dynamic working together.

• 1:16:55Speaker 02

Now, more than ever, we need someone on our side. But Rob Whitman? Whitman's votes drove up costs, cut Medicaid, and risked 350,000 Virginians' health care to pay for tax breaks for himself and his donors. He's not on our side. Shannon Taylor will fight corruption, cut taxes, and bring down costs. This November, vote for Shannon Taylor. She's for us. Paid for by HMP, the HouseMajorityPac.com.
